Plato s The Republic And Aristotle
Plato s The Republic and Aristotle s The Politics are two classic texts in ancient Greek political
thought. Although Plato taught Aristotle, the two philosophers had differing viewpoints on many
subjects, one of them being the purpose of political rule. Plato believed that the purpose of
political rule is to allow for the manifestation of a just city where both the city and its citizens are
in harmony due to a specialization of roles according to individuals natures, whereas Aristotle
believed that the purpose of political rule is to create a regime that pursues the common advantage
and preserves the political partnership of the city.
According to Plato, political rule s purpose is to enforce a certain version of justice. Plato s
version of justice is neither Polemarchus idea of doing good to friends and harm to enemies, nor
is it Telemarchus idea that justice is the advantage of the stronger (Plato pg. 7 15). Justice in The
Republic is adhering to your role in order to secure the good of the whole, and not just the
individual. The proper expression of this view of justice results in a city that is harmonious
because its individual parts are functioning correctly. In order for the individual citizens in the
city to carry out their proper roles, they must be separated into three categories: gold souls, silver
souls, and bronze souls. Gold souls individuals are those who are competent to rule; silver souls
are guardians who protect the city and also keep watch over the

Kohler Case
Introduction Kohler Company was faced with a very tough decision of whether or not to settle
outside of court or go to court to settle with the dissenting shareholders. We will take you through
the history of the company and why they recapitalized. Also, we will touch on some of the risks
of going to trial to have the courts set a price. We have also broken down the numbers and found
many different prices found by using the dividend growth model and the multiples approach. We
will also show how different outcomes will affect Kohler s retained earnings and cash standing. In
the end, we believe we have chosen the best possible price to make everyone in the case happy
without much sacrifice from either side and without having to go to court.... Show more content on

After the successful reverse stock split only a small percentage of stock still remained with
outsiders, but was closely monitored for the next 20years to maintain the private state of firm
control. It is hard to find negatives for being so private because Kohler has been so successful at
it. A few possible reasons for big companies such as Kohler to have public shares is because they
offer a new source of capital, a cash flow for acquisitions, liquidity for estate planning and a
means to reward employees with options. Kohler could make the counter to these public offers
by saying we may not have these public options, but who is going to take us over anyway... we
re Kohler. Why recapitalize: In 1998, Herbert Kohler proposed to buy back all the shares from
outsiders and further restrict the selling of shares to outsiders. There were many reasons for this
recapitalization plan: Herbert Kohler did not like the high speculative prices that the shares were
selling for. People started to think that Kohler would go public and it would increase the share
prices. Therefore, they paid higher prices for the Kohler stock with the expectations that the stock
price would go higher. He thought that it might entice the family members to sell their shares to
outsiders.
5 Kohler preferred the company s private status. It was a family owned business and Kohler wanted
to keep it within the family. Kohler could not control

The Different Effects Of Sugar Choice On Yeast...
The Different Effects of Sugar Choice on Yeast Fermentation Rate
Sadia Mustofa
Abstract
Baker s yeast costs little to produce and is convenient to store and use. While baker s yeast can
ferment simple sugars, monosaccharides which are simple sugars and contains one or more
hydroxyl groups per molecule. It takes much longer to ferment polysaccharides which are
composed of two or more monosaccharides. In a beaker, 2g of yeast, 2g of a sugar and 100mL of
distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL flask. Once the mixture was stirred for two
minutes, the fermentation rate was measured with a timer and the sugars were tested up to three
trials each. Fructose had the fastest average rate of fermentation at 1.42 minutes. Sucralose, ... Show

It is known that yeast can ferment sugars such as glucose, sucralose, fructose, saccharin, and
maltose but not ferment Truvia, starch, and lactose as efficiently. Simple sugars are known as
monosaccharides whereas complex sugars are polysaccharides because they are made up of
monosaccharides through dehydration reactions. A dehydration reaction occurs when a water
molecule is removed from the reacting molecule and the two molecules become covalently
bonded. Glucose and fructose are monosaccharides whereas, maltose, sucralose, starch, saccharin,
and lactose are polysaccharides. Truvia is the only sugar that is not either a monosaccharide or a
polysaccharide. All monosaccharides and polysaccharides are composed of some multiple of CH2O.
The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used for determining the fermentation of various sugars
because it is convenient to use and ferments quickly. Throughout the experiment, the only factor
that wasn t constant was the sugars used in the fermentation process. Based on this, it was
hypothesized that there would be differences in yeast fermentation of sugars.
Methods
2g of yeast, 2g of glucose, and 100 mL of distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL
flask. A stir bar was placed in the flask. After the flask was gently stirred, the flask was placed on
the stir plate. Then, the stir setting was turned up to 8 slowly and stirred for two minutes. Another
flask was filled with tap water and

Alice Munro Sparknotes
The Canadian author Alice Munro was born July 10, 1931 in Wingham, Ontario. She is popularly
known as the most important short story writer in Canada along within the English speaking
community as well. She was awarded as the first Canadian Nobel Prize winner in 2013. Alice
Munro narrates her short stories in an analytical manner of the protagonist, reflecting on their
experiences to outline a more in depth meaning. The central idea is a recurring idea through the
experiences of the characters within the short story. Similarly, in her short story the Gravel, the
narrator is seen outlining the context through various memories from her childhood. In Alice

Not a large one but hollowed... (Munro, 254), this helps readers identify that the narrator is
looking back into the past, their childhood. Memory is the empowering representation of human
existence and the basis of how our mental life is shaped. She states that there many memories she
recalls and many that she assumes to understand with no certainty. As the narrator discusses her
own memories, she is in the process of resolving the conflicts and contradictions she believes is
related to Caro s death. The narrator remembers the accident taking place due to her lack of
concern and therefore she puts herself at fault. Psychologically it is possible to form a memory
that is misread or misinterpreted, and likewise this is what the professional the narrator had met
to deal with her grief had tried to convince her with. The professional, possibly a grief councillor,
had provided her with a scenario where she was incapable of opening the door, resulting to Caro
s death. The narrator was satisfied with this conclusion just for a while till she returned to her
observation of the memory. Her guilt lied in the factual matter of not doing anything to help her
sister; realistically as a child she was convinced that Caro would save herself since dogs did not
need saving from bodies of water. Memory here describes an individual s struggle to recollect the
past and with being conscious to those memories

Sin, Consequences And Redemption In Le Morte DArthur
The Sin, Consequences, and Redemption of Sir Lancelot Sir Lancelot is the dominant figure in Le
Morte D Arthur who presents us with the theme of sin and redemption. Sir Agravaine and Sir
Mordred expose the courtly romance or otherwise adulterous affair between Sir Lancelot and Queen
Guenever. This sets in motion the conflicts and other events leading up to the death of Sir Lancelot
and many other noteworthy characters. Sir Lancelot betrays both King Arthurand Queen Guenever.
If he is truly a noble character as Sir Gawaine, Sir Gareth, and Sir Gaheris describe, would he
have involved himself in such a treacherous act? Sir Agravaine says, I marvel that we all be not
ashamed both to see and to know how Sir Launcelot lieth daily and nightly by the queen, and all
we know it so; and it is shamefully suffered of us all, that we all should suffer so noble a king as
King Arthur is so to be shamed (Location 12810). Sir Lancelot s betrayal raises opposition
between the knights and breaks up that which should remain united. His betrayal reaches beyond
the king and queen. Thus, it is not a surprise that the consequences of his sin affect the lives of so
many. Now, Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordredplot to find Sir Lancelot and Queen Guenever alone
together, while the king is away. The king warns Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordred, ...he will fight
with him that bringeth up the noise, and I know no knight that is able to match him (Location

CLINICAL MANIFESTATION Enlarged hands and feet are common feature with acromegaly.
People with this disorder often notice that they can no longer put on rings that used to fit and that
their shoe size has progressively increased. Gradual changes in the shape of their face, such as a
protruding lower jaw and brow, an enlarged nose, thickened lips, and wider spacing between the
teeth can also be noted (Z. Killinger, J. Payer, I. LazГєrovГЎ et al 2010). Because it tends to
progress slowly, early signs may not be readily apparent for several years. Sometimes, people
notice the condition only by comparing old photographs. Some of the key signature features of

The liver produces a hormone called insulin like growth factor I (IGF I) when GH is secreted
into the blood stream. This result in the growth of bones and other tissues. If the pituitary gland
makes too much GH, excessive amounts of IGF I can result leading to abnormal growth of the soft
tissues and skeleton and other signs and symptoms characteristic of acromegaly and gigantism. In
adults, a tumor is the most common cause of too much GH production: Pituitary tumors. Most
cases of acromegaly are caused by a noncancerous tumor of the pituitary gland. Secretion of
excessive amounts of growth hormone causes the signs and symptoms of acromegaly. Symptoms
such as headaches and impaired vision are resultant of the tumor mass pressing on nearby brain
tissues. Tumors in other parts of the body, such as the lungs, pancreas or adrenal glands can also
cause acromegaly in few people. These tumors are from non pituitary origin which sometimes
secrete GH. In some cases, the tumors produce a hormone called growth hormone releasing
hormone (GH RH) which stimulates the pituitary to make more

Pros And Cons Of Compulsory License
COMPULSORY LICENSING
(Remedy for abuse of IPR)
A Compulsory license is when a government allows someone else to produce the patented product
or process without the consent of the patent owner. It became a typical feature worldwide. In 1990s
many countries started granting compulsory licenses according to national laws, which were in
consonance with International principles. In certain products such as food, medicine compulsory
license were specifically provided by countries such as United States due non working of the
product and also in national interests. Various International conventions and agreements that have
recognized compulsory licenses over the years have been explained below.

currently living with his younger brother Seth, who is 7 years old, and their grandmother, Carmen
Rodriguez, in Legal Guardianship. Carmen was considering adopting both of the younger boys, but
has recently changed her mind due to her inability to handle the boy s escalating behavioral
problems. There are many factors which are contributing to the familys need for intervention
services, such as mental and behavioral health diagnosis, substance abuse, and a history of abuse
and neglect. Alternatively, there are many strengths and protective factors this family possesses,
such as a desire to remain unified as a family, active participation in individual and family

She is very involved with community work. She volunteers at different organizations, agencies

The Pardoner s Prologue Sparknotes
Does the way the story describes the Pardoner makes it seem as if he is a wholly vicious man? I
believe it does, from the start you can easily notice he is a very selfish person, yet he is supposed
to be a pastor and someone who tries to benefit the people of the church. Instead of fulfilling the
role God has put him in he would rather preach for his own benefits and bring sin upon the
church. In The Pardoner s Prologue, the story begins by explaining that the Pardoner is a man
who preaches and tries to sell his community salvation. He speaks on cupidity majority of the
time which is saying that greed is the root of evil. This is the first example of why he is a cruel
man. He is preaching lies to his people to make them feel bad and tricking them into giving
money to the church, telling people not to be greedy yet he is being greedy himself. Later on, he
tells us that he preaches only to gain money, he doesn t preach to try and bring the congregation
salvation or freedom from their sins. He even gets to the point where he thinks his sermons are
intended to be evil, to offend God and the community. Anyone who disagrees with what the
Pardoner says is believe to be wrong and influenced by evil intent. The reason the Pardoner does...

It goes on to say that the Pardoner s tongue will be a dagger to the people who hear his message,
he will speak to the congregation and they will feel pain. He will also spit venom towards the
people whose lies are called holiness. This is why it is so easy to classify the Pardoner as a
wholly vicious person, he is basically described as a snake and when people think of snakes it s
not a positive picture. A snake is something that is dangerous and scary, not happy and glorious.
The Pardoner is viciously coming for the pockets of the congregation and if anyone interferes,
there will be problems. There is no doubt that he is a wholly vicious man and that s been

Wal Mart s control systems help achieve the basic building block and high competitive advantage:
Efficiency
One of the control systems in Wal Mart is the financial control systemthat provided managers with
day to day feedback about the business performance; where the financial performance of each store
and even each department within each store can be tracked and monitored through a sophisticated
companywide satellite system. This control system helps sharing profitability information and
inventory turnover rate among associates; which as a result gives them an in depth insight into the
retailing business and work on improving it.
Furthermore, the above control system helps identifying if there is an underperforming store in the
business in order to take immediate action; where managers and associates meet to find solutions
and raise performance. Besides, top managers pay routine visits to stores with lower performance to
lend their expertise. Another interesting strategy is that every month top managers fly to different

financial results and future implications.
On the other hand, another control system the organization is their rewarding strategy; as they link
their performance and abilities to meet goals and targets to pay raise and promotion.

A Research Study On Infant Memory Development
Infant memory development is one of the topics of PSY103 lectures, and is also one of the
significant issues in Psychology. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my
attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the
failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words,
according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only
recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in
understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long
(Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural
development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of
Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory
ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in
many ways. In this essay, the academic impacts of psychological research in connection with infant
memory development will be discussed first. This will be then followed by the discussion about the
social and economic impacts, which benefit the society.
Firstly, the academic impacts of psychological research will be discussed. Psychological research in

Ban All Advertising From The Tobacco Industry
In 2001, there was an argument by the government of India trying to decide whether or not it was a
good idea to ban all advertising from the tobacco industry. The government s main goal was to find
a way to reduce the number of teenagers using tobacco. The government believed that these
advertisements encouraged teens to start smoking or to continue smoking if they were doing it
already. As expected, this situation created a lot of tension between the government and the tobacco
industry. This created two sides: those in favor of the ban, and those against it.
Those in favor of the ban argued that the government had the moral responsibility to make sure
teens weren t smoking. They pointed out that tobacco causes millions of deaths every year, so it
was important that the youth never started smoking in the first place. They also argued that the
advertisements were too colorful or looked like cartoons which would get too much attention of
children and, eventually, it would drive them to become smokers. The other argument that was
made was that other countries had already done it, so India could do it as well. Finland, France,
and Norway had implemented bans on advertising for tobacco products acting on what they
believed was the best interest of their citizens. Part of the argument was that banning advertisements
wasn t illegal, therefore, there was nothing to stop the government from implementing it. However,
the government was warned that a ban like this would only work

Examples Of Altruism
Altruism is the virtue of unselfishness. It is the principle and practice of concern for others. T
ypically it is associated with selfless acts like volunteering and helping the less fortunate. Altruists
are commonly stereotyped to those who ve given greatly to those in need, to the extent in which
they seemingly put those in need over themselves. The Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi are
common icons for this theory.
Pure altruism is the form of the virtue in which one can perform altruist acts while remaining
completely unselfishly motivated. A circumstance of this would be donating money for the benefit
of others with no personal self satisfaction or mental rewarding. An example of a pure altruist act
is an innocent mother risking her life to save her young child, and dying as the result of saving her
child. I do acknowledge a fair hearing towards this and agree it is morally courageous in our present
western society. However, seemingness is a true factor that is predetermined in this sense. It s not
the question of what the mother gains from death that s important, but the theme of absence gained
from living. More specifically, the mom subconsciously concluded

A Common Fear Of Population Growth
It s a common fear that population growth will exhaust resources and result in social or economic
disaster if it is not controlled. It is anticipated that most of the projected population growth during
this century will take place in developing nations. These countries have faced many challenges in
recent years, including low levels of education, poor health standards, scarcity, limited housing,
natural resource exhaustion, strife, and monetary and governmental command by other countries.
In places like Africa, industrial development has stalled and most workers still make a living from

Mostly they focused their attention on teaching married couples about birth control and dispensing
contraceptives, but some programs took more coercive approaches. China imposed a limit of one
child per family in 1979, with two children allowed in special cases (Price, 1999).
Large societies obviously consume more supplies than small ones, but depletion patterns and
technology selections may report for more environmental harms than pure digits of people. The
U.S. population is about one fourth as large as that of China or India, but the United States
currently uses far more energy because Americans are wealthier and use their prosperity to buy
energy intensive goods like automobiles and electronics (Arrow et al, 1995). However, China and
India are developing and becoming more prosperous, so their ecological effects will increase
because of both population expansion and consumption levels in the next several years. As income
increases and technologies diffuse through society, purchasers start to value environmental quality
more greatly and become more able to pay for it.

A great way to pass the time is to watch a John Carpenter movie. It has a great story line, easy to

has loads of action, weapons, magicians, sorcery, magical elements and mystical beings. There is
no blood and gore, just minimal scenes of bone breaking. The movie has a bunch of loveinterest but
no nudity or adult content; just a high point of a love tango between Kurt Russel and Kim Cattrall

special effects but some scenes where cheesy. I wish they did not make Kurt Russel character as

Informative Speech On Tattoos
Tattooing is a body modification practice used for centuries across the globe. Because of the
multiple origins of tattoos, there are several techniques and countless styles. Every tattoo is unique
in meaning to the person that receives it, though often they can fit into generalized categories.
Tattoos have fallen in and out of popularity over the course of history, though they have never and
most likely will never disappear.
II. Specific Purpose and Need to Know:
According to Written on the Body by Jane Caplan, Tattooing is one of many forms of irreversible
forms of body alteration... and it is probably the oldest and most widespread [of these.] Due to the

Several tribes of Ancient Britons partook in tattooing as a sort of national pastime.
1.
In an article titled Ancient Britons: The Most Recognizable Tattoos of History that I accessed on
June 12th, 2017, and was posted to Tattoo.com on February 16th, 2016, I learned that the tribes
used ink made from a plant called woad. It was diluted with urine and water, but because of the
plants antibacterial properties there was rarely ever a case of infection.
2.
We know of these tattooed tribes largely due to texts written by ancient Romans, who invaded the
British Isles, and in them they described the tattoos on the Britons as making them all the more
terrifying in battle.
C.
Evidence of tattoos is found not only on mummies or in text, but on the objects left behind by

There have been numerous images of Egyptian women depicted with tattoos as figurines dated as

Although he was born free, Solomon Northup still became a slave under tough circumstances.
Solomon Northup was born in July of 1808, in Minerva, New York. Solomon was born free due

He was then sent to Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner,
Edwin Epps, put Solomon in charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to
escape, but was never successful. Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his
friends and family back home in New York. In these letters, he told them where he was and all
that had happened to him. In November of 1852, there was a widespread search in order to find

Building a backdoor to a phone is an unprecedented step that takes everyone s safety at risk
because it empowers government, as well as hackers and cyber criminals, to capture users

Sophia Cope, an attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, claims that if Apple creates
unlocking technology, its development would be like opening Pandora s Box. It means that not
only would the killer s phone be decrypted, but also all the phones would be at risk to be
decrypted. The government is more likely to ask Apple to craft a master key that could be used
to open not only one door but every door. With this master key, the government could pass
through all the devices and access everyone s message, phone calls, emails, location, social

The World s Largest Population
From the 3.68 billion people that will be added to the world population between 1995 and 2050,
Asia will contribute some 2 billion. This enormous increase is due to the already massive size of
the population. Most of this growth will occur in the next three decades. Between 1995 and 2025
Asia s populationwill grow by 1.35 billion between 2025 and 2050 the increase is projected to be
just 658 million. China is the world s largest population, estimated to be around 1.24 billion in
1998. It grows at a rate of 1.3% per year or 44,100 people a day. There are now more people
living in China than whole world 150 years ago. The population broke the billion mark in the 1982
census, the results of which provided the justification for the strict one child policy which
effectively curbed rapid population growth. In the 1990 census, China counted 1.133 billion people,
over the next decades the world populationwill inevitably age. This is an unavoidable consequence
of large birth cohorts during the 1950s and 1960s and the rapid fertility decline since the 1970s. In
2025 the baby boomers of the 1950s and 60s will be between 65 and 75 years of age. These large
aging cohorts are followed by the relatively small baby bust generations of the worldwide

number had almost tripled and was estimated at 371 million. Between now and 2025 the number

The Roman Catholic Church is the largest church of all the Christian denominations with over 1.2
billion followers around the world. The Bishop of Rome or in other words, the Pope, is at the
forefront in leading such an expansive religion that extends its influence and borders beyond the
Vatican City in Rome. The Church teaches that they are the one, true church founded by Jesus

The euphoria after JFK s victory of Catholic Americans experiencing a positive perspective by
the remainder of the country lasted until the 21st century. The biggest setback the church would
face regarding their public image was about to unfold. The Boston Globe released an article
covering five Roman Catholic priests being prosecuted for child sex abuse. The 2002 article
unanimously won a Pulitzer Prize becoming a national scandal that brought many more people to
come forward with their allegations of abuse. Roman Catholic diocese across the country quickly
learned that this wasn t an isolated issue and began to pay out settlements in the millions towards
the vast number of civil lawsuits. The church asserted remorse for the countless priests at fault,
estimating the problem was amongst no more than one percent of the 410,000 Roman Catholic
priests worldwide. Regardless, the major concern was approximately 80 percent of the cases
reported occurred in the United States, while a report by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice
indicated 4 percent of priests who served between the years 1950 2002 had allegations made against
them. Addressing the issue as an internal matter, matters were taken into the church s hands. Instead
of permanently removing priests from their roles, they were moved from one parish to another,
remaining in close contact with children. Psychological treatment was given to offending priests,
while rarely reporting incidents to the police. The church s defense was priests were allowed to
return to duty once psychologists and psychiatrists notified their bishops of their medical
assessment, deeming them fit to return and face reassignment. A panel of eight non Catholic
psychiatric experts concluded at a 2003 Vatican Conference on Sexual Abuse that the Catholic

Cross Cultural Communication Essay
The three cultures that are involved in cross cultural communication are the Missionary s Culture
Context, the Bible Culture Context, and the Respondent s Culture Context. The Missionary s
culture is a missionaries understanding and interpretation of the Bible according to their upbringing
in the gospel, and their traditions. For example, I grew up in the Methodist Church, and singing
hymns is a part of our worship and culture. Some modernize Churches do not necessary care for
hymns, because it seems to turn off the younger generation from attending Church. Therefore, the
modern Church may only sing a hymn on a special occasion to honor their heritage, but they do
include hymns as part of their weekly worship. Nevertheless, no matter the cultural differences
God loves diversity (Winter, 2009, p. 354). As I reflect over my culture there is not too much
difference in the Bibleculture, we praise and worship, fast and pray many are still judgmental and
prejudice, and slander and cheat. Ecclesiastes 1:9 states History merely repeats itself. It has all been
done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Therefore, in my opinion the cultureonly changes
when we change. Unfortunately, some people cast believers to the side when we do change, but
now as I reflecting on this topic, it really just gives us an opportunity to create a more Christ like
culture, the way God intended it to be since the beginning of time.

Eradication is the complete destruction of something. How the Other Half Lives shows the life of

shows the poor immigrants are in dirty little tenement that were rented out for five cents. The
picture shows the struggle of immigrants when they came to America. The immigrants were
looking for a better life in American, but instead got stuck in poverty, and would often die of
diseases. In addition, Jacob Riis wrote over 101 pages about Five Points. Jacob Riis impacted
Five Points by showing the world how the poor immigrants lived. One example from How the
Other Half lives states, The twenty five cent lodging house keeps up the pretense of a
bedroom, through the head high partition enclosing a space just large enough to hold a cot and
a chair and allows the man room to pull off his clothes is the shallowest of all pretenses. The

and blankets as foul. At the ten cent level the locker for the sleeper s clothes disappears. There is
no longer need of it. The tramp limit is reached, and there is nothing to lock up save, on general
principles, the lodger. Usually the ten and seven cent lodgings are different grades of the same
abomination. Some sort of an apology for a bed, with mattress and blanket( How the Other Half

houses are garbage. He writes about the beds the people sleep on and how the homes are
abominations, meaning they are disgusting and not worth living in even if they are rented for five
cents. Therefore, Jacob Riis showed the world how poor immigrants lived, and this eventually led

The Gods In The Iliad
In Greek Mythology, gods and goddesses were assigned gifts related to specific aspects of nature.
It explained to people the origin of the universe and how the world operates. The ancient Greeks
were basing these scientific concepts solely based on their beliefs alone, which resulted in stories
that included the gods swooping in and interfering with human affairs. Many of those recorded
stories, including Homer s The Iliad, can be interpreted in two ways: either the actual gods have
appeared before a protagonist or that there was a natural occurrence that had no scientific
evidence to clarify what it was. Book 5 of The Iliad shows several occasions where this occurs,
and each example presented in this essay will argue if it shows that the gods are physically
present in the story, or the gods are used only as metaphors for a scientific phenomenon. On the
first line of page 164, Homer describes a scene where Athenagives Diomedes strength and daring

The structure of Caged Bird is clearly stated in the verses and the poem moves at a steady pace,
exploring the bird s actions and feelings throughout the poem. The first verse of this poem starts
with the freedom of the bird and its joys of being able to do what it wants, but this is short lived
and the bird is captured in the second and remainder of the verses. Although there is a theme of
the bird s song running through the whole poem, it is concentrated in verse three and the same
verse is repeated as verse six. This is so that the reader doesn t forget the message the poet is
trying to portray. The fourth verse is about the things the bird is looking forward to, if it
manages to escape its captivity, but the reality comes back to the bird in the fifth and sixth
verses, and so the bird returns to its song for freedom once again. The arrangement of the first
verse in Caged Bird starts with one capital letter at the beginning and one full stop at the end,
which suggests the movement and freedom of the bird. Still I Rise has more of a hidden message.
It does not contain a journey, unlike Caged Bird , although Still I Rise has a distinctive rhythm,
which stays the same until the last two verses, which the writer uses to get the message of the will
for her to rise above the segregation across to the reader. The rhythm also suggests the marching of

In category strategies Home depot look for suppliers who they can buy certain thing from at a
particular price, rather than buying the same items and same brand from different suppliers. They
use this strategy to maximize as much saving in the procurement. A typical example, is Home
Depot has 2,278 stores across the United States, and each store purchasing manager is responsible
for negotiating their own deals for supply. Let s say stove tops, each purchasing manager ensure
that they source the kind of stove tops they need. Another, strategy in purchasing is supplier
relationship management (SRM) strategy. According to (Monczka, 2016) Supplier relationship
management (SRM) is the end to end process of managing a supplier through the entire sourcing
life cycle, which includes first identifying the abilities of a particular company with regard to
performing a service for the internal customer, completing a sourcing event, negotiating a contract,
executing an order, and determining payment (2016). This strategy is critical for the organizations
to minimize risk, manage cost and maximizing partnership value, with a healthy supplier
relationship lifecycle. Business should align their business with their suppliers because a huge

Pokemon and the Steel Industry
The steel industry is something that has been evolving and changing for the past 3 centuries in
which the braced metal has been around. As we come into the modern age of mining and metal
production we can find that there have been difficulties in the way of our resources are beginning
to run low, mining is dangerous, we may not have enough fuel to smelt ironin the next century, and
abrasive water cutters are not innovating since their introduction. In the recent wake of these events
an unlikely source has been uncovered to help aid these problems and that source is the math and
physics of pokemon. Pokemon is a franchise of turn based RPG games in which creatures with
many crazy features fight each other for glory. Over the years pokemon has been getting crazy with
what these creatures are based on and some designs and descriptions hold the key to remedying
these problems with the metal industry. Currently, the metal industry, while strong, has many
problems due to the shrinking of natural resources and lack of innovation. the mathematics of
pokemon could lead a revolution in steelproduction because Excadrill design could lead to a more
efficient drill, the heat given off by magmortar is enough to create a new smeltingand improve
process for stronger steel, and the amount of pressure that Blastoise s cannons would be forcing out
can make a already good tool even better.
Excadrill is a large bipedal mole like pokemon that has drill like formations on its body. Excadrills

Post WW II and Japan Essay
World War II took place beginning at 1939 and ending in 1945. Japan was the last opposing
country to surrender to the US Allies on September 2nd, 1945. Ending the long, horrific seven year
war.
Upon Japan s admitted defeat, the U.S. invaded and took occupation of the country for seven years.
Though assumed to be a distressing circumstance and expected total domination, it was a benefit to
Japan, for the United States to take control of them, rather than being a disadvantage. The
occupation helped the recovery and development of Japan s economy and also clarified
understanding between the two countries.
When the United States took control of Japan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Japanese people still felt bitter about the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which
they tried to exploit the immorality of it by writing books, bashing the U.S. President Truman and
the Americans. However, the U.S. government during the occupation period censored it.
Surprisingly, the American occupation wasn t such an unpleasant experience the Japanese
anticipated it to be. The occupation proved to be an important, constructive phase of Japanese
history, a veritable rebirth, comparable only to the Meiji Restoration (Reischauer 222). What the
Japanese expected the U.S. to be a vindictive and relentless sovereignty, were basically friendly and
fair minded people.
The Japanese, for their part, were far from the fanatical fighters the Americans had come to know
on the battlefield, and proved to be a docile, disciplined, cooperative people at home (Reichauer
222). The United States dominating of Japan transformed the brutal war charged with overt racism
into an amicable peace in which the issue of race seemed to have disappeared. The army of
occupation became an undisputed figure of authority, and the government and its people obeyed
without question.
Since militarism and authoritarianism lead Japan into disaster, many Japanese believed that the
democratic rule the Americans eulogized must be the correct way of governing. They

The Draining Of Glacial Lake Missoula And The Formation...
THE DRAINING OF GLACIAL LAKE MISSOULA AND THE RESULTING GEOLOGICAL
FORMATIONS
RIZZO, Scott
Department of Geology, SUNY Cortland,Cortland, NY 13045
In the 1920 s, geologist J. Harlen Bretz challenged the current concept of how various geological
formations happened. At the time, geologists believed in uniformitarianism, which meant that
geologic change in the past resulted from the same slow, steady processes at work today.
But Bretz presented evidence that there was at least one exception to this rule namely the geologic
formations of the Columbia River Basin and the Channeled Scablands. He proposed that a glacier
caused an ice dam that blocked the Clark Fork River, creating Glacial Lake Missoula. He thought
that the ice dam would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, he said the source could be a melting glacier somewhere near present day Spokane, but
couldn t say how that much ice could melt so fast. Another geologist, Joseph Pardee, however, had
already identified the source of the flood. It was Glacial Lake Missoula, in addition to a slowly
melting glacier! ВВ
There have been at least five major ice ages in the pass one billion years. The most recent was
called the Pleistocene Ice Age, which began about two million years ago. Interglacial periods
occurred where temperatures increased slightly and the glaciers would melt and retreat. During
the Pinedale glaciation, there were two ice sheets. One of them being the Cordilleran Ice Sheet.
The Cordilleran Ice Sheet was comprised of three main lobes. The Puget Lobe, Okanogan Lobe,
and the Purcell Trench Lobe. The one lobe in Northern Idaho, near present day Lake Pend
Oreille, was the Purcell Trench Lobe. When these sheets of glacial ice moved south they caused
an ice dam to occur. J.T. Pardee states that The evidence of icebergs, together with the apparent
regency of the lake and the variable height of its surface, connect this lake with the glacial
period, and readily lend themselves to the suggestion that its dam was of ice (Pardee, 1910) This
ice dam blocked the Clark Fork River which is near the boundary of Idaho and Montana. The water
from the river was blocked and began to build up and formed Glacial Lake Missoula. Water

Persuasive Essay On Driverless Cars
Imagine a future with zero car accidents and taking a nap while going down the road. Imagine a
future where there are no drivers, only passengers. And not just that, but imagine not worrying
about having accidents or high insurance payments. With driverless vehicles, car accidents will
drastically diminish and insurance rates will decrease, meaning they could have a better impact
on the economy. Driverless vehicles will benefit society given that they will reduce accidents,
can improve traffic flow by enhancing its efficiency, and protect the environment from harmful
fuel emissions. Driverless vehicles, or the self driving car, is defined as any car with features
that allow it to accelerate, brake, and steer a car s course with limited or no driver interaction
(BI Intelligence par.4). When most people hear the term driverless vehicle , people instantly
think cars that drive all by themselves, meaning that the vehicles are able to completely control
themselves while the driver can sit back in the driver s seat as if they were the passenger. The
reality is that it will actually be a few years before fully self automated vehicles will make their
debut on the road, but for now the car companies and manufacturers are adding self driving
features of the latest models of cars. For example, the 2016 BMW i3 has the capability to self park
itself without the need of the driver to control the steering wheel. This reduces the risk of the driver
hitting another vehicle while

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow Essay
Tell the truth! Every person has made this remark. Realistically, each person has their own
perception of truth. Truth defined according to Webster Dictionary as that which is true or in
accordance with fact or reality. Based on knowledge of the person at that specific time, truth is
defined; therefore, truth may vary for different people. Throughout Harry Potterand the Deathly
Hallow, the characters Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Harry Potterattend to truth. In the
novel, Albus Dumbledore has his own way of defining truth. Dumbledore sees truth through the
big picture. He shares enough knowledge to give hints about how to find the truth, but not enough
information to state the truth. In the novel, Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour personally
delivers Dumbledore s bequests to Harry, Ron and Hermione. This is very unusual for him to
come in person. Dumbledore left Ron a deluminator, Hermione the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and
Harry a snitch and the sword of Gryffindor (which was not his to give). Scrimgeous then questions
each about the importance of each object. The Ministry of Magic is especially suspicious why this
amazing wizard left the objects for these three students out of everyone. What the Ministry of
Magic or these three did not know at the time was each had a hint that would help them later. Albus
Dumbledore shares enough knowledge so the other characters can find the truth for themselves. By
doing so, Dumbledore shows them what they need in a

  • 2. Plato s The Republic And Aristotle Plato s The Republic and Aristotle s The Politics are two classic texts in ancient Greek political thought. Although Plato taught Aristotle, the two philosophers had differing viewpoints on many subjects, one of them being the purpose of political rule. Plato believed that the purpose of political rule is to allow for the manifestation of a just city where both the city and its citizens are in harmony due to a specialization of roles according to individuals natures, whereas Aristotle believed that the purpose of political rule is to create a regime that pursues the common advantage and preserves the political partnership of the city. According to Plato, political rule s purpose is to enforce a certain version of justice. Plato s version of justice is neither Polemarchus idea of doing good to friends and harm to enemies, nor is it Telemarchus idea that justice is the advantage of the stronger (Plato pg. 7 15). Justice in The Republic is adhering to your role in order to secure the good of the whole, and not just the individual. The proper expression of this view of justice results in a city that is harmonious because its individual parts are functioning correctly. In order for the individual citizens in the city to carry out their proper roles, they must be separated into three categories: gold souls, silver souls, and bronze souls. Gold souls individuals are those who are competent to rule; silver souls are guardians who protect the city and also keep watch over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the successful reverse stock split only a small percentage of stock still remained with outsiders, but was closely monitored for the next 20years to maintain the private state of firm control. It is hard to find negatives for being so private because Kohler has been so successful at it. A few possible reasons for big companies such as Kohler to have public shares is because they offer a new source of capital, a cash flow for acquisitions, liquidity for estate planning and a means to reward employees with options. Kohler could make the counter to these public offers by saying we may not have these public options, but who is going to take us over anyway... we re Kohler. Why recapitalize: In 1998, Herbert Kohler proposed to buy back all the shares from outsiders and further restrict the selling of shares to outsiders. There were many reasons for this recapitalization plan: Herbert Kohler did not like the high speculative prices that the shares were selling for. People started to think that Kohler would go public and it would increase the share prices. Therefore, they paid higher prices for the Kohler stock with the expectations that the stock price would go higher. The Different Effects of Sugar Choice on Yeast Fermentation Rate Sadia Mustofa Abstract Baker s yeast costs little to produce and is convenient to store and use. While baker s yeast can ferment simple sugars, monosaccharides which are simple sugars and contains one or more hydroxyl groups per molecule. It takes much longer to ferment polysaccharides which are composed of two or more monosaccharides. In a beaker, 2g of yeast, 2g of a sugar and 100mL of distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL flask. Once the mixture was stirred for two minutes, the fermentation rate was measured with a timer and the sugars were tested up to three trials each. Fructose had the fastest average rate of fermentation at 1.42 minutes. Sucralose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is known that yeast can ferment sugars such as glucose, sucralose, fructose, saccharin, and maltose but not ferment Truvia, starch, and lactose as efficiently. Simple sugars are known as monosaccharides whereas complex sugars are polysaccharides because they are made up of monosaccharides through dehydration reactions. A dehydration reaction occurs when a water molecule is removed from the reacting molecule and the two molecules become covalently bonded. Glucose and fructose are monosaccharides whereas, maltose, sucralose, starch, saccharin, and lactose are polysaccharides. Truvia is the only sugar that is not either a monosaccharide or a polysaccharide. All monosaccharides and polysaccharides are composed of some multiple of CH2O. The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used for determining the fermentation of various sugars because it is convenient to use and ferments quickly. Throughout the experiment, the only factor that wasn t constant was the sugars used in the fermentation process. Based on this, it was hypothesized that there would be differences in yeast fermentation of sugars. Methods 2g of yeast, 2g of glucose, and 100 mL of distilled water at 40В°C were combined in a 250 mL flask. A stir bar was placed in the flask. The narrator remembers the accident taking place due to her lack of concern and therefore she puts herself at fault. Psychologically it is possible to form a memory that is misread or misinterpreted, and likewise this is what the professional the narrator had met to deal with her grief had tried to convince her with. The professional, possibly a grief councillor, had provided her with a scenario where she was incapable of opening the door, resulting to Caro s death. The narrator was satisfied with this conclusion just for a while till she returned to her observation of the memory. Her guilt lied in the factual matter of not doing anything to help her sister; realistically as a child she was convinced that Caro would save herself since dogs did not need saving from bodies of water. Sir Agravaine and Sir Mordred expose the courtly romance or otherwise adulterous affair between Sir Lancelot and Queen Guenever. This sets in motion the conflicts and other events leading up to the death of Sir Lancelot and many other noteworthy characters. Sir Lancelot betrays both King Arthurand Queen Guenever. If he is truly a noble character as Sir Gawaine, Sir Gareth, and Sir Gaheris describe, would he have involved himself in such a treacherous act? Sir Agravaine says, I marvel that we all be not ashamed both to see and to know how Sir Launcelot lieth daily and nightly by the queen, and all we know it so; and it is shamefully suffered of us all, that we all should suffer so noble a king as King Arthur is so to be shamed (Location 12810). Sir Lancelot s betrayal raises opposition between the knights and breaks up that which should remain united. His betrayal reaches beyond the king and queen. Thus, it is not a surprise that the consequences of his sin affect the lives of so many. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words, according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only recollect the earliest memorybetween 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long (Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in many ways. The government s main goal was to find a way to reduce the number of teenagers using tobacco. The government believed that these advertisements encouraged teens to start smoking or to continue smoking if they were doing it already. As expected, this situation created a lot of tension between the government and the tobacco industry. This created two sides: those in favor of the ban, and those against it. Those in favor of the ban argued that the government had the moral responsibility to make sure teens weren t smoking. They pointed out that tobacco causes millions of deaths every year, so it was important that the youth never started smoking in the first place. They also argued that the advertisements were too colorful or looked like cartoons which would get too much attention of children and, eventually, it would drive them to become smokers. The other argument that was made was that other countries had already done it, so India could do it as well. Finland, France, and Norway had implemented bans on advertising for tobacco products acting on what they believed was the best interest of their citizens. Part of the argument was that banning advertisements wasn t illegal, therefore, there was nothing to stop the government from implementing it. Because of the multiple origins of tattoos, there are several techniques and countless styles. The 2002 article unanimously won a Pulitzer Prize becoming a national scandal that brought many more people to come forward with their allegations of abuse. Roman Catholic diocese across the country quickly learned that this wasn t an isolated issue and began to pay out settlements in the millions towards the vast number of civil lawsuits. The church asserted remorse for the countless priests at fault, estimating the problem was amongst no more than one percent of the 410,000 Roman Catholic priests worldwide. Instead of permanently removing priests from their roles, they were moved from one parish to another, remaining in close contact with children. Psychological treatment was given to offending priests, while rarely reporting incidents to the police. • 34. Cross Cultural Communication Essay The three cultures that are involved in cross cultural communication are the Missionary s Culture Context, the Bible Culture Context, and the Respondent s Culture Context. The Missionary s culture is a missionaries understanding and interpretation of the Bible according to their upbringing in the gospel, and their traditions. For example, I grew up in the Methodist Church, and singing hymns is a part of our worship and culture. Some modernize Churches do not necessary care for hymns, because it seems to turn off the younger generation from attending Church. Therefore, the modern Church may only sing a hymn on a special occasion to honor their heritage, but they do include hymns as part of their weekly worship. Nevertheless, no matter the cultural differences God loves diversity (Winter, 2009, p. 354). As I reflect over my culture there is not too much difference in the Bibleculture, we praise and worship, fast and pray many are still judgmental and prejudice, and slander and cheat. Ecclesiastes 1:9 states History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Therefore, in my opinion the cultureonly changes when we change. Unfortunately, some people cast believers to the side when we do change, but now as I reflecting on this topic, it really just gives us an opportunity to create a more Christ like culture, the way God intended it to be since the beginning of time. It explained to people the origin of the universe and how the world operates. The ancient Greeks were basing these scientific concepts solely based on their beliefs alone, which resulted in stories that included the gods swooping in and interfering with human affairs. Although there is a theme of the bird s song running through the whole poem, it is concentrated in verse three and the same verse is repeated as verse six. What the Japanese expected the U.S. to be a vindictive and relentless sovereignty, were basically friendly and fair minded people. The Japanese, for their part, were far from the fanatical fighters the Americans had come to know on the battlefield, and proved to be a docile, disciplined, cooperative people at home (Reichauer 222). The United States dominating of Japan transformed the brutal war charged with overt racism into an amicable peace in which the issue of race seemed to have disappeared. The army of occupation became an undisputed figure of authority, and the government and its people obeyed without question. Since militarism and authoritarianism lead Japan into disaster, many Japanese believed that the democratic rule the Americans eulogized must be the correct way of governing. They enthusiastically ... • 45. The Draining Of Glacial Lake Missoula And The Formation... THE DRAINING OF GLACIAL LAKE MISSOULA AND THE RESULTING GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS RIZZO, Scott Department of Geology, SUNY Cortland,Cortland, NY 13045 In the 1920 s, geologist J. Harlen Bretz challenged the current concept of how various geological formations happened. At the time, geologists believed in uniformitarianism, which meant that geologic change in the past resulted from the same slow, steady processes at work today. But Bretz presented evidence that there was at least one exception to this rule namely the geologic formations of the Columbia River Basin and the Channeled Scablands. He proposed that a glacier caused an ice dam that blocked the Clark Fork River, creating Glacial Lake Missoula. He thought that the ice dam would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, he said the source could be a melting glacier somewhere near present day Spokane, but couldn t say how that much ice could melt so fast. Another geologist, Joseph Pardee, however, had already identified the source of the flood. It was Glacial Lake Missoula, in addition to a slowly melting glacier! ВВ There have been at least five major ice ages in the pass one billion years. The most recent was called the Pleistocene Ice Age, which began about two million years ago. Interglacial periods occurred where temperatures increased slightly and the glaciers would melt and retreat. During the Pinedale glaciation, there were two ice sheets. One of them being the Cordilleran Ice Sheet. The Cordilleran Ice Sheet was comprised of three main lobes. The Puget Lobe, Okanogan Lobe, and the Purcell Trench Lobe. The one lobe in Northern Idaho, near present day Lake Pend Oreille, was the Purcell Trench Lobe. When these sheets of glacial ice moved south they caused an ice dam to occur. J.T. Pardee states that The evidence of icebergs, together with the apparent regency of the lake and the variable height of its surface, connect this lake with the glacial period, and readily lend themselves to the suggestion that its dam was of ice (Pardee, 1910) This ice dam blocked the Clark Fork River which is near the boundary of Idaho and Montana. The water from the river was blocked and began to build up and formed Glacial Lake Missoula. Water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Persuasive Essay On Driverless Cars Imagine a future with zero car accidents and taking a nap while going down the road. Imagine a future where there are no drivers, only passengers. And not just that, but imagine not worrying about having accidents or high insurance payments. With driverless vehicles, car accidents will drastically diminish and insurance rates will decrease, meaning they could have a better impact on the economy. Driverless vehicles will benefit society given that they will reduce accidents, can improve traffic flow by enhancing its efficiency, and protect the environment from harmful fuel emissions. Driverless vehicles, or the self driving car, is defined as any car with features that allow it to accelerate, brake, and steer a car s course with limited or no driver interaction (BI Intelligence par.4). When most people hear the term driverless vehicle , people instantly think cars that drive all by themselves, meaning that the vehicles are able to completely control themselves while the driver can sit back in the driver s seat as if they were the passenger. The reality is that it will actually be a few years before fully self automated vehicles will make their debut on the road, but for now the car companies and manufacturers are adding self driving features of the latest models of cars. For example, the 2016 BMW i3 has the capability to self park itself without the need of the driver to control the steering wheel. This reduces the risk of the driver hitting another vehicle while ... • 47. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallow Essay Tell the truth! Every person has made this remark. Realistically, each person has their own perception of truth. Truth defined according to Webster Dictionary as that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality. Based on knowledge of the person at that specific time, truth is defined; therefore, truth may vary for different people. Throughout Harry Potterand the Deathly Hallow, the characters Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, and Harry Potterattend to truth. In the novel, Albus Dumbledore has his own way of defining truth. Dumbledore sees truth through the big picture. He shares enough knowledge to give hints about how to find the truth, but not enough information to state the truth. In the novel, Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour personally delivers Dumbledore s bequests to Harry, Ron and Hermione. This is very unusual for him to come in person. Dumbledore left Ron a deluminator, Hermione the Tales of Beedle the Bard, and Harry a snitch and the sword of Gryffindor (which was not his to give). Scrimgeous then questions each about the importance of each object. The Ministry of Magic is especially suspicious why this amazing wizard left the objects for these three students out of everyone. What the Ministry of Magic or these three did not know at the time was each had a hint that would help them later. Albus Dumbledore shares enough knowledge so the other characters can find the truth for themselves. By doing so, Dumbledore shows them what they need in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
