The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Biography of Christopher Bruce
Biography of Christopher Bruce
Christopher Bruce was born on the 3rd of October 1945 in England, he started studying dancing at
11 years old, and he began with tap and ballet.
After studying at the Rambert School Christopher Bruce joined Rambert Ballet in 1963, where he
quickly became the leading male dancer. Bruce appeared in works such as Don Quixote in 1964
and Coppelia in 1966. Then the company began to experiment with ballet and modern, combining
them to form, specifically the Martha Graham technique. (Martha Graham created 181 ballets and a
dance technique that has been compared to ballet in its scope and magnitude. Many of the great
modern and ballet choreographers have studied the Martha Graham Technique or have been

However, it is the representation of the oppression of ordinary people, symbolised by the sinister
ghost figures, which give the work much of its resonance. On the evidence of ghost dances,
swansong, and cruel garden (about the death of Lorca at the hands of the fascists in Spain), human
rights themes have provided him with a strong source of inspiration. He remains a passionate
advocate for the role of dance and the arts in society and believes that seeing good work and the
chance to perform, either as an amateur or a professional, an not only enrich lives, but can also be
civilising influence.
Ghost dances
It was created in 1981, and was influenced by the political oppression in Chile. The style was
contemporary ballet blended with South American folk dance. The setting of Ghost Dances is a
rocky Andean location suggesting the mouth of a cave. The colours (blue s, greens and greys) of
the backdrop were very effective and complimented the costumes and movement by adding to the
eerie atmosphere. The whole stage was lit by a dim white light. The dead wear everyday clothes,
which are beginning to disintegrate. The Ghost Dancers appear as skeletal figures in striking skull
masks. The piece is accompanied by Andiean folk music, with panpipes, guitars, and flutes. The
tune is infectious, rhythmic and tuneful. The style of the choreography is sinuous and graceful,

3. The Weight Of The Weigh Boat On A Balance
Procedure:
1.Measure the original weight of the weigh boat on a balance because you will need to subtract the
measurements of the elements and then get the exact mass.
2.Measure the original weight of a beaker on a balance because the beaker will be used for the
salt, and you will need to subtract the mass with salt in it from the original
3.Place the mixture onto a weigh boat and measure its original weight so that you can record it on
the data table
4.Pour the mixture from a weigh boat onto a filter paper and spread it apart because you need to
take out all the iron with a magnet
5.Then use a magnet and take out the iron from the mixture because iron is the only thing that is
magnetic in the mixture
6.Place the iron on a weigh boat so that you have it separated from the other elements
7.Then measure the weigh boat by using a balance to find the mass
8.Subtract the original weigh boat mass from the one with iron in it and then record the correct
measurement for iron because the weight of the iron is affected by the weight of the weigh boat so
it will not be right until you subtract the weigh boat s mass
9.Pour the mixture of the remaining salt and sand onto a weigh boat and add water so that the salt
will become soluble and the sand will float down to the bottom
10.Place a clean filter paper on top of a beaker
11.Pour the mixture mixed with water over the filter paper so that the sand remains on top of the
paper and the soluble salt water will go through into the beaker

The crime of genocide is one of the most devastating human tragedies throughout the history. And
the word genocide refers to an organised destruction to a specific group of people who belongs to

killing, where anyone who is related to the particular group regardless their age, gender and ethnic
background becomes the killing targets, genocideinvolves in more depth towards destroying people
s identity and it usually consists a fine thorough plan prearranged in order to demolish the
unwanted group due to political reasons mostly. While the term genocide had only been created

From the first colony established for penal settlement in 1788 at Port Jackson, it all seemed to begin
peacefully in the start. In reality, as the white settlers expands their territories with more colonies
established, those movements destroyed not only the lives but also the trusts from the aborigines,
unlike such as initially when Governor Arthur Phillip issued the Letters Patent establishing the
colony of South Australia in 1836 with the confidence that nothing should affect the rights of the
natives in regard to their enjoyment or occupation of the land . Over the past, Aborigines had their
own complex social organisation, yet they had different language and customs in various tribes but

inferior and a primitive group, simply because they have a lack of what they are used to,
westernization. Such as a visible administration and therefore, they introduced the nation state and
complex political institutions along with the rise of new class, race, and gender concepts, which
these are all parts of the preface towards modernity and civilisation.
Ironically, the civilised people who brought the improvements could not cope to live in peace with
the natives, where countless Aboriginal lives vanished under the superior governance of the new
settlers. Regardless which part of the continent including Tasmania, the history has shown many

From the first seconds of dawn to the last moments of dawn, one thing overshadows the United
States: social class. Whether it be lower, middle, upper, or somewhere in between, social
structure has affected the lives of millions living in the U.S. for decades. Everyday life in the
United States is shaped by the complex social structure. Numerous social classes divided and
organized the citizens of Southern towns in the early to mid twentieth century. In Harper Lee s
novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem Finch says that people can be broken up into four groups: the
ordinary kind , poor farmers, the unemployed poor, and blacks (Lee 258). Going down the social
ladder, the level of respect and economic prosperity declines. Those at the bottom were... Show

In chapter 23, Alexandra tells Scout, The thing is, you can scrub Walter Cunningham till he
shines, you can put him in shoes and a new suit, but he ll never be like Jem (Lee 255). Walter
was a poor, working farmer boy of the lower class, traditionally inferior to someone like Jem, a
privileged son of a respectable family. The excerpt displays the mindset of many middle to
upper class whites in the 1930s: it does not matter how similar someone is to the upper class, if
they come from a lower class, they will always have their original branding, and should be
treated as such. Blacks in the 1930s got the short end of the stick when it came to social status. In
the 1930s, middle class Negroes do better economically than do lower class whites, but they must
obey the deference [respect] forms characteristic of their caste position when dealing with lower
class whites (Dollard 252). The classic early 1930s class structure places them at the very bottom of
the order, with little room to advance upward. This arrangement kept the white community in a
position of power. One s background dictated where they stood

The Tax Advantages and Disadvantages of Sarbanes Oxley The 1990s and the early 2000s was
a time that the world witness an explosion of fraud in the corporate world. Corporate fraud like
Enron, HealthSouth, Waste Management, WorldCom, Lehman Brothers, etc. was so disturbing
that lawmakers felt the need for a law to help curb down these frauds. Lawmakers came out with
Sarbanes Oxley named after Senator Paul Sarbanes and Rep. Michael G. Oxley, the co sponsors
of the act. The purpose of this essay is to discuss some of the tax advantages and disadvantages
of Sarbanes Oxley and to explore whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for small
businesses as well as the tax benefits for those businesses. The Tax Advantages of Sarbanes

seem to have been obtain. Since SOX was enacted, there has not been a major domestic corporate
financial scandal uncovered other than the options back dating scandal that occurred before July
2002 (Jahmani Dowling, 2008). It is a tax advantage because companies and investors are not

7. I Am Serving As An Instructor
Reading these initial chapters in our textbook comes at an interesting time for me, as I am
currently serving as an instructor for the first time! Speaking from personal experience, I agree
with the authors in that simple skills are a crucial first step in getting off on the right foot. I
believe it would be difficult to recover with students (as well as your own self esteem) starting out
ill prepared. I really wish that I could have taken this courseprior to serving as an instructor, or at
the very least attended some kind of training to prepare me. Of great importance, as Svinicki and
McKeachie point out, is having a firm grasp on university etiquette to avoid taboo subjects and
relate to students appropriately. Although common sense should prevail, training in this area may
help mitigate issues that may arise with a lack of understanding on the part of the instructor. I
appreciate the timeline that chapter two offers in relation to preparing to teach three months in
advance, and can see myself referring back to this in the future. This section highlights the
importance of avoiding procrastination in planning, and provides detailed instructions on how to
stay on task. I did find the discussion of course goals and objectives interesting because I had
assumed they would be set by the university or department. Regardless, the authors make clear the
importance of goals and objectives; however from my experience there doesn t seem to be much
emphasis placed on these in the

8. Essay about Parenting Styles
Parenting styles have been grouped into three different categories: authoritarian, permissive, and
authoritative. The authoritarian approach to parenting provides children with a clear set of rules
which have to be followed without question or reason, while permissive parents constantly are
giving into their child s every wish. The authoritative parenting style gives children rules along with
explanations for those rules, and reinforces good behavior. Therefore parents should make sure the
way they parent their children will be positive, and not negatively affect their children now or in
their children s future. According to Consistent Parenting Advice.com the authoritarian parenting
style has a Do as I say, not as I do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children raised by permissive parents usually have serious behavior problems due to the lack of
discipline. On the other hand Children from permissive homes...have good self esteem and better
social skills, than that of children raised in an authoritarian household. (Iannelli, 2004). The
authoritative parenting style is the In between, of both the authoritarian and permissive
parenting styles, and has a Give and take approach. Authoritative parents are very involved in
their children s lives: children help around the home and in decision making processes, and
homework is supervised. This approach to parenting raises children who are responsible, well
behaved in school, have a high self esteem, and good problem solving skills along with decision
making skills. The authoritative approach to parenting has very positive effects on children s
lives presently, and in the future. (Marsiglia, C.,Walczyk, J., Buboltz, W., Ross, D. 2007). Though
the three different parenting styles have been grouped, categorized, and labeled by professional
doctors, psychiatrists, and sociologists these styles were created by parents, and for the most part
with children s best interest in mind which is one of the main similarities. The parent does not
choose a parenting style the parenting style chooses the parent. However, knowledge of the
parenting styles and the effects of all three will help parents decide how they can raise their
children in a way that is most

North America are vastly different from those of the Middle Eastern country that is the subject of

They saw every Iraqi, Pakistani, Iranian or Saudi as a terrorist and a threat to their country. All
were subject to a negative judgement without cause or trial. With the benefit of a passage of time
we have learned that these feelings were misdirected and wrong. It was as though certain people,
those of a different race and nationally, were robbed of their human rights and cast in the role of
criminals solely because of their culture and the acts of groups they likely did not know. In the calm
aftermath and a chance to reflect on this behaviour some American officials admitted that Abu
Ghraib was the functional equivalent of the 9/11 attack, only committed this time by the United
States (Greenberg 2005: 98).
Prior to 9/11there had been various terrorist attacks on Americans around the world and on
American soil. However the events of September 11 intensely changed the United States
Government s approach towards terrorism. After September 11, the Bush Administration changed
the previous American approach, which had primarily employed the combined tools of diplomatic
cooperation, economic sanctions, and internationally coordinated law enforcement measures (Lee
2007: 137). Instead, the President declared in the aftermath of September 11 that the United States
was engaged in a war on terrorism. In this war all terrorists who plotted against the United States
and those who supported them were subject to American justice. This new

10. Men’s Angst with Society´s Perception of Masculinity
...men are unhappy and don t really know why.
Masculinity in the modern age is changing, so much so that many men feel inadequate. A large
amount of men are unable to understand what type of masculinity they fit into and what they want
to fit into. In Gurmeet S. Kanwal s article from Psychology Today: The masculinitycrisis, male
malaise, and the challenge of becoming a good man he says that, the perception and image of
heterosexual men in this country has never been as negative, de idealized, and potentially harmful
as it is now. And lots of men are feeling it. Men are now feeling that they do not fit into or do not
want to fit into popular masculinity. This is similar to the way American men were feeling about
masculinity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is similar to how men feel now; they believe they can do more than society accepts them to
do. An example would be where a man would want to be the stay at home dad and take care of
the children, where it may seem outlandish now, will most likely become easily accepted in the
future. History points toward progressive changes in equality for both genders after rough
receptions of new ideas of how they can act. These ties into my thesis that new masculinities will
be established which in time will become accepted by society just as it has happened in the past.
The wanting for a new type of masculinity to fit into by males is only fueled by the male malaise
that has been spreading recently, in Kanwal s article there are many examples of this. The Atlantic
came out with an issue where the cover had an article titled The End of Men by Hanna Rosin. She
discusses how men have been the dominant sex since the beginning of humanity, but that it is now
changing to women who will start gaining dominance, and how that only two of the fifteen
growing jobs in the future, men have a larger representation of. This sends a blow to the idea that
men should be the breadwinners, and makes men feel inept to be financially supportive. It only gets
worse with articles such as Are Fathers Necessary? by Pamela Paul, in which she states that there is
nothing essential about men s contribution to their children. Media bashfulness on male masculinity

We then can infer that he was talking about how some people it s easy for them to disconnect

argument because not everyone has a great life, sometimes social media is there escape or safe
haven from the troubles and stresses of the real world. I for one have been guilty of going to the

16. The Goal Of Any Philosopher
The goal of any philosopher is to find what truth is. Truth is undeniable, and can be relied upon
in any circumstance, especially in the one thing that has real meaning life. Truth is essential to
understanding the world. All knowledge is based upon truth. The Idea of truth is first and for
most a conviction of the mind. The mind has an inclination to view something to be true, false;
we are convicted to believe one or the other. For example, if one were holding a model car that
appears to be red, you can be convinced it is red; you can also be convinced it is red, dark red,
pink, or even burgundy. One s mind can perceive the car in different ways; it is just the inclination
of the mind. Another component of truthis the property of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The pragmatic theory says, roughly, that our beliefs are true if they work; or to get us what we
want. The correspondence theory, considered the most popular of all theories of truth states
truth is determined only by how accurately it corresponds to the real world. For example if
someone says It is raining the statement can only be true it is actually raining outside. The
correspondence theory assumes, then, that there is a real world whose existence does not
depend on our beliefs, thoughts, or perceptions that is, it assumes that a real world exists and
has always existed where or not we have been around to believe it, think it , or perceive it (
Velasquez 403). The correspondence theory has had a long history since Aristotle. Aristotle
approached this theory in a simpler form discussed in his study of Metaphysics, to say of what
is that is, and of what is not that is not, is true. Presumably what Aristotle meant is that if what a
statement says corresponds to the real world it is true. Closer to our time period, Bernard
Russell, modern philosopher is a model example of a correspondence theorist. He maintains that
there is a realm of facts whose existence does not corresponds to us. What is correspondence?
Correspondence makes a belief true when it correlates to a fact in the real world such as Chicago
is in Illinois; this is true because it relates to the fact Chicago

17. Questions On Accounting And Auditing Issues
Introduction:
After visiting the company, we found some accounting and auditing issues that come to our
attention. So we prepared a memo for Mr. Kovacs as a result of our visit to make him be aware of
these potential problems.
Accounting issues:
The owners of the company believe that WHCL will be poised to be a major player in the
Canadian and the US heating and cooling markets in three years. However, after collecting
information and auditing all the financial statement, we found that there is numerous issues need to
be concerned for WHCL in recent years.
1. Covenants:
We can notice that in the early fiscal 2000, WHCL increased its debt significantly, and the company
had attached several covenants specifying that debt to equity ratio ... Show more content on

But this would certainly increase the audit risk. If the company has violated the covenants, the
auditor should disclose that in the financial statement.

2. Warranty(Estimated Expense):
In 1994, WHCL introduced a new model of gas furnace and these products are sold with ten year
warranties on parts and labor. Although this marketing strategy can attract more customers to buy
their product, the increased long term warranty claims will increase company s warranty expense,
and lower their future profit.
The most serious accounting problem for WHCL is the warranty potential liability. The
increasing liability concern is because WHCL sold a new model of gas furnace with 10 year
warranties in 1994. So we need to consider how much repair costs should be reported in the 2000
financial statements. As we know, cost of repairing each furnace was $150, and there are 30
claims were made. So we need to record 30 x $150=$4500 in warranty expenses in 2000 financial
statement. Another problem for us is the information we currently collect cannot let us make an
accurate estimate. Apparently, WHCL don t want to record too much costs in current period, but
the fact is they require a large amount of accrual. If the estimate is low, then the costs we

20. Greek Tragedy and Modern Drama
Greek Tragedy Modern Drama
Tragedy as a form works differently than modern drama when compared to the ancient Greeks.
When it comes to modern drama, the main character is usually an ordinary person, someone who
is middle class. Where as with Greek tragedy, the main character is someone important and noble,
such as a king or queen. Modern drama revolves around everyday problems such as social,
economical, or personal conflicts. Greek Tragedies seem to be very linear. It s mostly about the
hero making a bad decision from the beginning of the play, which leads to his or her downfall in
the end. Although, they were of higher ranking, ancient Greek s beliefs made the main character
powerless to avoid their fate, which was controlled by the gods. As far as conventions go, Greek
Tragedies are very unified. The tragedy of the royal protagonist will go through only one time span,
a day or less, one setting, and one story. In a modern tragedy, however, the ordinary protagonist s
story goes through multiple realistic settings and a realistic time line. Also, the story would contain
multiple plots, which may contain flashbacks.
Taking a look at the elements of a Greek tragedy, a play called Oedipusthe King is a good
example. The story starts off with the city of Thebes being under a plague due to the murder of its
former king, Laius. Creon was sent by Oedipus to find a solution from the oracle, which was to

21. Job Stress And Occupational Stress Essay
Introduction Job stress is known as stress at work or the occupational stress. It occurs when
there is a discrepancy between the demands of the workplace and that of individual s (Tsutsumi
et al., 2009). Job stress, also known as occupational stress, has been defined as the experience of
negative emotional states such as frustration, worry, anxiety and depression attributed to work
related factors (Kyriacou, 2001). Occupational stress can be defined as the harmful physical and
emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities,
resources, or needs of the worker. Job stress can lead to poor health and even injury. The concept
of Occupational stress is often confused with challenge, but these concepts are not the same.
Challenge energizes us psychologically and physically, and it motivates us to learn new skills
and master our Occupations. When a challenge is met, we feel relaxed and satisfied (NIOSH,

22. Theme Of Sin In The Scarlett Letter
Sin and Symbols in The Scarlett Letter Sin is present in everyone s life and no human can escape
its reach. In The Scarlett letter the main conflict is rooted in one sin between a man and a woman
in colonial Massachusetts. The sin was adultery and there are several vital themes and symbols that
stem from it. Sincontrols and characterizes lives in so many ways that people do not realize. This
is highlighted throughout The Scarlett Letter. Sin and revenge are symbolized by Pearl and
nature in many instances throughout several different chapters. Sin is the most prominent and
reoccurring theme in The Scarlett Letter. Opportunities arose due to Hester s husband being
away for an extended period. After Hester committed adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale her
life was forever changed and furthermore characterized by this theme. He could never escape his
inner guilt for his sin with Hester but could not bring himself to publicly repent. Hester
continued her series of poor choices by agreeing to keep the father of her baby a secret, so he
would not be publicly punished and shamed. The theme continues when her husband arrives in
town angry that she is pregnant, and she also promises to keep his identity a secret to the public.
Her husband, Roger Chillingworth, is then overcome with anger and strives for revenge as he is
seemingly possessed by evil. Hester aids in this sin by not warning Reverend Dimmesdale of
Chillingworth s identity. Chillingworth quickly befriends the Reverend

Every year thousands of high school seniors are faced with a decision. They could either go to
college or choose an alternative. For some, this choice is easy, they know exactly where they are
going and exactly how to do it. Others not so much. Some students try really hard to get into
certain colleges and they don t, others just quite literally don t know what to do with their lives and
they end up doing nothing. Collegeis not valuable because there are many jobs that do not require
college, and college has caused drug and alcohol abuse, also, college isn t meant for everyone, and
the people it s meant for are mainly in the upper class.
There are many reasons why college is not valuable. One reason is that many students that attend
college are from rich families that send them on trips and donate money to the colleges and
mainly, they can afford to send their child to a four year college. According to Richard Vedder,
They make generous contributions to the elite colleges they once attended, to which their kids

Liberty is a condition in which a man s will regarding his own person and property is unopposed
by any other will, according to Paul Rosenberg. This definition is saying that any person should
have the freedom to do anything they want to do, as long as they don t harm or negatively affect
another person. Rosenberg also points out that if you agree to liberty, or rather John Locke s
definition of liberty, and its terms, you must respect and treat everyone as an ally or comrade that
has also agreed. If someone that has agreed is a bad person and you don t like them, you still have
to treat them like an ally, no matter what. If we can t do that, we don t deserve to succeed. (http:/

189 United Nations Member States agreed to achieve 8 goals for The UN Millennium

environmental degradation, and discrimination against women in the word. In addition,

Tuberculosis (TB) was identified as a highly infectious disease, was transmitted primarily via

For many same sex couples across the United States of America this is a reality. Even though great

from the Federal Government by being denied the right to a marriage. Same sex marriages should be
constitutionalized. While the Federal Government denies gay and lesbian couples the right to

couples. These states are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and
Vermont plus the District of Columbia (Human Rights Campaign). Though these states and

30. A Theory of Justice by John Rawls
Original Position John Rawls discusses the original position in his book A Theory of Justice.
The Original Position and Justification is a chapter where Rawls persuades his readers into
taking the original position seriously. The original position is a position where people are equal
and are rational in order to make principles that they live by fair. However, there is a problem with
rational decisions being biased, where people will choose principles to benefit themselves.
Therefore, the veil of ignorance will restrict a person s knowledge about social status, intelligence,
gender, race, ethnicity, and temperament. This will then define principles of justicethat will not be
advantage or a disadvantage to anyone in a society. Keeping this in mind, the purpose of this essay
is to explain the reasons Rawls gives to favor the original position. I will then oppose to Rawls
argument with two of my own reasons about the veil of ignorance not being realistic and the equal
of humanbeings not being plausible. Rawls first reason to take the original position seriously is
that everyone recognizes the original position as reasonable. In order to consider a principle fair,
one must be rational with certain limitations so, it would not advantage or disadvantage any one
else. For example, if a man knew he would become wealthy, he would find the principle of
various taxes for welfare to be unjust. This would be the same if a man was poor and would
consider the same principle just.

31. Characteristics Of The Leopard
The Leopard
Long ago, the leopard and the Ethiopian, his white hunting companion, lived in a place called the
High Veldt. The two dominated this vast grassland, and they were able to hunt and catch any
animal they wished. Their favorite meals consisted of the plain sandy yellow brown coated giraffe
and zebra. One sunny day, the giraffe and zebra were hiding from the leopard and Ethiopian within
the shadows of the trees. Mysteriously, jagged shadow shapes appeared on the fur of the giraffe
and the zebra. The prey became permanently striped and spotted and were so well camouflaged
that the leopard and Ethiopian were now incapable of finding lunch. The two hunters knew they
needed to up their game, so the Ethiopian turned his skin black. The leopard asked his companion
to give him spots so he could blend in, too. The Ethiopian pressed his five fingertips all over the
leopard s plain coat; both of them were now camouflaged just like the giraffe and zebra.
This retelling of Rudyard Kipling s How the Leopard Got His Spots is a fanciful fable which
portrays the cunning nature of the leopard. Besides its stealthiness and competitiveness, this
spotted wonder possesses several other traits which display God s originality in creating it. In order
to understand the significance of the leopard, one must understand its physical characteristics and
behavior, unique habitat and hunting strategies, and extreme threats to its existence.

The Theme of Deception in Hamlet by William Shakespeare One must always be weary of the
truth because it is quite often manipulated to serve the needs of any person who requires that the
truth be on their side. Quite often, the only way to discern the truth from the fiction is by way of
a deceptive act, because an act of deception always exposes both its self and the truth to be two
quite different things. Nowhere is this more true than in William Shakespeare s, Hamlet. One of the
major themes in the play is in fact, deception. This central theme is expressed throughout the play
in three major forms: the fear of being deceived, the act of deception, and the ultimate result of the
deceptive act. The first facet of the deceptive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of Claudius wrongdoing, Claudius is still suspicious. Ironically, he is worried about being

health of his whole state, (I:3, ll 17 21) Laertes fears that Hamlet is not sincere in his love for
Ophelia. He tells her that since he is of royal blood, he is not free to choose his own wife. The
court and other royals must decide who is the best choice to be queen, for the safety of Denmark.
Hamlet knows this to be true, and therefore, any sign of love that he gives her must be false.

37. The Killer Angels Quotes
For this summer, I decided to read The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. The book took place
during Civil War times and went into good detail on what happened during the battles at
Gettysburg. The first quote that I found interesting was from the Union Colonel Joshua
Lawrence Chamberlain. The fact of slavery upon this incredibly beautiful new clean earth was
appalling, but more even than that was the horror of old Europe, the curse of nobility, which the
South was transplanting to new soil (Shaara 27). This quote was significant because it described
the feelings of the average Union soldier towards slavery. The Union fought to end slavery
because as shown by people like Chamberlain, they believed that slavery was against a man s
good nature and did not want it to effect the new land of the United States. The second quote that I
found significant was another quote from Chamberlain on how he describes a young black man
who was injured from escaping his slave master. The man was really very black. Chamberlain felt an

General Longstreet felt that the plan Lee formed would ultimately fail and cause a major loss to
the Union Army. He brought it to Lee s attention only once, but Lee told Longstreet with the help
of him and other strong generals including Pettigrew, Trimble, Pickett, and Armistead, they could
cut the Union army in half and force them to retreat. Unlike Longstreet, Lee never looked at the
consequences of pulling this risky attack. Longstreet, feeling guilty for trying to stop Lee s
overconfidence, decides to compromise and go along with Lee s plan since he has a sacred bond
with him. Eventually, Longstreet s predictions came true and the strategy was a failure. Despite the
fatal casualties to Longstreet s fellow Generals, he couldn t bare himself to turn against

38. Taking a Look at Myasthenia Gravis
People go to doctors offices with a lot of different conditions everyday. A lot of those conditions
happen to share the same symptoms which could make it hard to determine what is truly wrong
with a patient without a diagnosis. A diagnosis is a methodical evaluation of symptoms and
complaints through interview, observation, testing instruments and/or procedures taken to
determine if an illness is present (1). It is important that a person be diagnosed thoroughly and
properly so that they can receive the right treatment (if available) to make the patient better. A
patient with symptoms like Susan s would need a full diagnosis to determine exactly what he/she
has, which is what her doctor did. Her doctor s diagnosis made it easy for us to determine whether
her illness is myasthenia gravisor myotonic muscular dystrophy. Here s how.
We learned through research that myasthenia gravis and myotonic muscular dystrophy are two
common forms of muscular disorders. Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder that usually
occurs in the arms, head and chest (2). Its symptoms include limb weakness, drooping eyelids,
impaired vision, difficulty chewing and swallowing, slurred speech, difficulty breathing and
abnormality of the thymus gland (3). Myotonic muscular dystrophy is one of many forms of
muscular dystrophy that is characterized by muscle wasting and myotonia or the inability to relax
muscles (4). Its symptoms include, but are not limited to drooping eyelids, cataracts,

39. The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins
In the Hunger Games , citizens in thirteen districts are subordinates to the citizens of the capital.
These subordinates were forced to work for the capital and were given no mercy there were
public beatings for crimes and even their kids were killed on a comical television show for the
capital citizens. These ideas, which Suzanne Collins used in her book, can be traced to our own
past. Similar to the forced labor and abuse the Capital imposed on the district members in the
Hunger Games , blacks in early United States were treated very poorly. Ironically, many people
living in the United States after the Revolutionary War were still oppressed, slaverystill existed, and
discrimination was prevalent. Slavery did get banned in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The registration and bond were irregularly enforced. Many blacks got away with not registering,
however, a rapid increase of blacks caused an enforcement of the regulation. This enforcement,
resulted in over a thousand free blacks fleeing the state to Canada or other states. Blacks in Ohio
were also limited politically. They could not vote, hold office, or testify in court. In 1860, the
regulation on voting was modified some, yet only mulattoes were given the right to vote. Blacks
also could not enlist in the state militia. Socially, blacks were also at a disadvantage in Ohio.
Whites did not want to associate with blacks in the state. When a plan had been made to settle
around 500 ex slaves from Virginia in Ohio, they threatened armed attack (Horton et Horton

River, which acted as a border between slavery and non slavery land. Free blacks were limited in
regard to which jobs they could have. No free black could work unless they had a valid license and
they were generally offered the worst jobs available. At Cincinnati s riverfront, men gathered

Robert E. Lee was one of the most outstanding military leaders during the civil war because he had
experience before the war that helped him make smart decisions, he made major impacts on the
war which helped the Confederacy, and he was revered by his men.
As a general for the Confederacy, Robert E. lee had many choices to make that could have dire
consequences if he made the wrong decision. This is where his prior war experience comes into
play. He has developed his skills through his experience in the Elite Engineering Corps and the
Mexican War. As said by Dowdey (2017), his experience in the Engineering corps helped them at

Lee s brilliance is not the only thing that helped the confederacy, the trust his men put into his
abilities is what gave the Confederacy an edge against the Union. His men saw him as an
untouchable, smart and strong leader, this belief started to form during the seven day battles.
As said best by Pryor (2017)
Because it was the first major victory for the Confederacy since Bull Run, and because it halted a
succession of military reversals, Lee emerged overnight as the people s hero, and his soldiers
developed an almost mystical belief in him. (Pryor 2017).
What also boosted the appreciation his men had for him was his choices in generals for his two
corps he created from the Army of North Virginia, they were Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson and
Old War Horse Lt. Gen. James Longstreet (HistoryNet). The ultimate sign of respect was after
the seven day battle when Robert E. Lee not only earned the respect of his comrades but earned
his new permanent nickname Marse Robert, which means Master Robert (Stiles). Before Robert
E. Lee earned his permanent nickname he was called Granny Lee because people did not like his
timid style of leading, but then the seven day battle happened and Robert E. Lee emerged the

43. Argumeative Effects Of The Los Angeles Riots
The Los Angeles Riots Argumentative Essay
How did the Los Angeles Riots help bring a change to the community and to the LAPD? Rodney
King was an African American motorist who inspired positive police reforms after he was
brutally beaten by four members of the LAPD. Rodney King had an impact on the lives of
everyone. He was an inspiration to most of the black African Americans. He was their voice.
The Los Angeles Riots were the second riots to happen after the Watts Riots. The L.A Riots took
place on April 9, 1992. The riots broke out in less than a day and lasted five days and killed more
than 50 people and left more than 2,000 injured. On April 30, 1992, writers Richard A. Serrano
and Tracy Wilkinson wrote an article in the Los Angeles Times newspaper saying hours after the
verdicts were announced, angry demonstrators torched buildings, looted stores and assaulted
passersby as civic leaders pleaded for calm. The riots started after the verdict was given, people
were filled with anger after they police officers were acquitted of all charges against them. Tensions
also arose with Korean store owners.
The riots helped bring a change to the community for the African Americans because before the
riots they didn t have a voice, any protest or march they did didn t receive attention. When the riots
happened, they got the attention that they were searching for. The communities were said to be too
poor to care about them. In the article Sandy banks publish it said The devastation was
heartbreaking, but I understood the rage behind it. Los Angeles had been building to this moment,
with years of protests, meetings, and marches that got little attention outside a black community
seemed too wretched and too poor to care about. Los Angeles was going to have a breakout sooner
or later due to the little attention put for the communities that were in need. The communities felt
that with Rodney King, they finally had a voice. For the community Rodney King was their voice
because of him the people started caring, everything started changing. Later in life they would not
be ignored anymore. The government and the people would focus more on them and not treat them
as bad as they had.

44. Cross Cultural Communication And The Classroom
Cross Cultural Communication The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable
one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself [Shaw]. Internalize this quote begs the question,
can education make a difference? This paper will examine in detail cross cultural communication, a
cultural issue that educators must seek to address in the delivery of teaching to English Language
Learners (ELL) classroom. Moreover, the ensuing paper will analyze the problems of cross cultural
communication in the classroom of ELL; this will be followed by its relation to the theories and
application of those methods. On the other hand, the writer will outline the effects of cross cultural
communication, and how these effects can be changed into a social value through education.
Examination of Cross Cultural Communication in the Classroom Instruction and assessment are
delivered through the medium of communication, while resolution of behavioral problems involve
communication. Significantly, in a classroom with ELL/LEP learners, the job of the teacher is not
only to teach but to be a mediator between the different cultures represented in the class. What
teachers must realize is that an environment that is filled with cultural tension does not lend itself to
learning. Therefore, administrators/educators must recognize cross cultural communication as
essential in the learning environment. Collier and Powell (1990), posits ethnic background

Then two years later, he resembled an NFL linebacker. He played in an era that many sports
writers have labeled The Steroid Era and with his sudden jump in production and size is a great
piece of evidence that should be held against him. His statistics over a three year span had
increased at such an amazing rate, one of the fastest rates in Major League history. Over the years
of 1996 thorough 1999, Barry Bonds averaged 35 home runs per year (Elias). But in 2000, Bonds
hit 49 home runs, then came out the next year and hit a record setting 73 home runs in a season,
which is a great indicator that he used performance enhancing drugs over this specific time (Elias).
The evidence that has been found and recorded on the topic of Bonds and performance enhancing
drugs is plentiful, and all of this information should be used against him in a movement to convict
him of robbing the game of baseball and hurting the structure of the game so many Americans
love and enjoy. Barry Bonds and steroid use continues to be a very hot topic in the professional
sports world. The history that Bonds erased from the game because of his drug use, especially
the records that he erased from all time greats such as Babe Ruth and Willie Mays, is a great deal
to the fans and historians of Major League Baseball. Barry Bonds broke two of the biggest and
most well known records in the Major Leagues. In 2001, Bonds broke the single season home run

After reading the text and seeing what the relationships these odd questions have in common, it is

intended for us to behave and live.
In the first Chapter of Freakonomics, it discusses what Schoolteachers and Sumo Wrestlers have in
common. The thing that they have in common is cheating. I never knew that sumo wrestlers could
cheat. I guess they could if they wanted to throw a win. Shocking though, is that is exactly what
they do. They lose on purpose. They lie. One of the very Ten Commandments that we are to follow

I couldn t figure it out, but the answer is as simple as having knowledge of information that
others do not know. Real Estate agents can be schemers when it comes to the knowledge of the
real estate market. They have a pretty good idea of how much a house will be worth. They will
try to talk clients into selling their houses at a lower price in order to make money quicker by
having a quicker turnaround time. The findings even showed that agents would keep their house
on the market of an average of 3 weeks longer than a non real estate agents house (Levitt Dubner,
2005). Real estate agents will also make a house sound better by specific terms that they use when
listing it. They try to make it sound better than it is, but other real estate agents know what they
mean. The consumers and sellers do not know. This is deceiving and not how God wants people to

Paul s Ministry in Corinth
Apostle Paul of Tarsus has been described as a one who gave his heart and strength as he

Corinth.? Though Paul?s ministry began with a visit to Corinth that is chronicled in Acts 18:1 18,

letters that he wrote to them after his departure.? By examining the account of his initial visit and

about ministering to the Jewish community.? As a converted Pharisee, it is understandable why
Paul would have a certain interest in those whom are active in his former religion.? But
eventually, he was faced with opposition from Jewish leaders, and he declared that ?from now

the same: he ?did not come proclaiming the mystery God?in lofty words or wisdom.? [He]
decided to know nothing?except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified? (I Cor. 1:1 2).? This is again
reiterated in 2 Cor. 1:19; it is obvious that Paul?s primary concern during his time in Corinth was
the basic proclamation of the gospel in order to gain converts (Furnish 232).
?After eighteen months, Paul was forced to depart Corinth as hostile Jews openly opposed him and
began to make their misgivings known to those with political power, such as Roman proconsul

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, is an essay that uses satire. Merriam Webster defines

makes outrageous assertions or claims (Cummings, 2012). Swift, best know for Gulliver s Travels
