The Smaller Pieces of the Big Christmas Puzzle

Style Elements And Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron
Style Elements and Harrison Bergeron It is quite difficult to detail a dystopian future without thinking
about the variables. What time period shall it be? What new laws will be enacted to cause the
dystopia? How will the characters be portrayed, and what shall be their challenges? These variables
would be enough to repel authors from this topic, but one author managed to perfectly describe a
dystopian future with his short piece, Harrison Bergeron. This short story, written by Kurt Vonnegut,
has been renowned for showing an almost perfect dystopia. Through the use of stylistic elements such
as diction, imagery, and details, Vonnegut reveals a grim tone, where even if good tries to prevail, it
will be stopped and forgotten. In Harrison

Questions On The Law Of International Peace And Security
Although article 16 of the ICC s statute provides for deferral, the deliberations of the Kenyan deferral
requests bring out critical legal issues and gaps that need to be addressed. Article 16 reads as follows,
No investigation or prosecution may be commenced or proceeded with under this Statute for a period
of 12 months after the Security Council, in a resolution adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of
the United Nations has requested the Court to that effect; that request may be renewed by the Council
under the same conditions . This therefore means the major consideration before a deferral is arrived
at is whether an investigation or prosecution is a threat to international peace and security or not.
However, from the analysis of this study, the two deferrals by UNSC and two non deferrals shows a
different picture as the issue of the threat of international peace and security was not extensively
considered by the UNSC. In the Kenyan situation, there was an attempt to examine whether its request
met the threshold in article 16 but as noted by the Argentina representative, this issue was not given
proper attention. In fact, the representative stated that, her delegation had abstained because it was the
Council s duty to interpret strictly whether the trial posed a threat to international peace and security,
and Argentina did not think it did. By not analysing whether the Kenyan situation was a threat to
international peace and security and especially by those

Francisco Goya Research Paper
The French Revolution, which was a critical period of reformation, was an era in which war happened
frequently. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was an important artist of that time, who created many
artwork that portrayed wars. In the analysis of his masterpieces, people can find his disappointment in
how people pursue freedom, their ignorance, and the brutality of the wars. Freedom was one of the
main ideas in French Revolution, but in Goya s painting, he was disappointed in how the society
fought for it. In his artwork, he showed the stupidity of how people pursued freedom during that
period. In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1797 1798), Goya used the mocking owls and
bats to imply folly and ignorance, while the lynx stayed alert against the monsters of greed and
stupidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Disasters of War (1810 1820), he showed how brutal the French were in the invasion of Spain.
In the early plates of the series, Goya depicted the dead and injured are carried away, soldiers strip
corpses, which are then thrown into a common grave in the Plate 18 Bury them and keep quiet
(Tomlinson 1994, p.191). This picture wholly described how the war looked in Spain during that time:
how people were killed and then buried like it was a normal scenario. The ruthlessness of the French
also sent out another message that beauty is not only destroyed, but grotesquely ravaged to attest the
end of any faith in an ideal (p.193). In the paintings, people lost their dignity, and there are no heroes
countless unidentified victims in the picture, which indicate that humanity is only ideal in the
Revolution (p.202). The hand gestures in the paintings are in motion, which emphasized the
instantaneity of the climax. For example, in the painting, the soldiers are holding arms and already
stabbing it into the victims. The capture of the particular moment reinforce the brutality of people in

Asscher Cut Engagement Ring
One of the most constant engagement ring trends of the moment is the Asscher cut engagement ring.
In fact, almost 1 bride in 3 in the United States is opting for a square diamond featuring the Asscher
cut. These diamonds offer a timeless vintage feel without looking old fashioned. The square cut adds
symmetry to a setting and the diamond can be set alone or surrounded with smaller diamonds for extra
sparkle and bling.
The Asscher cut is also sometimes known as a modified cushion cut, or a square emerald cut. The
distinctive feature of this sophisticated cut is the square shape with corners cut deeply to look like an
octagon. The Asscher cut has been patented by the Asscher family, and every genuine Asscher
diamond will display the patent lasered on the stone. (This is not visible to the naked eye.) ... Show

This means that Asscher diamonds will cost more than some other diamonds of the same carat weight.
Asscher cut diamonds tend to look best when set in white metal, but in this day and age any look and
style is encouraged. Due to the cut of these diamonds they give off a startling depth when looking into
them.
History of Asscher diamonds:
The Asscher cut was originally designed in 1902, and fast became very popular in the 1920 s, suiting
the art deco engagement rings perfectly. The Asscher cut got an overhaul in 2001, adding 16 extra
facets to the original cut to increase the sparkle factor. This new improved design has been repatented
and is apparently harder to copy.

Amy Tan s Two Kinds
For many of us growing up, it has been our mothers that played a crucial part in our lives in terms of
what made us into who we are today. Our mothers forgave us when it seemed like no one else could.
They comforted us when it felt like everything was going down hill. And they have loved us
unconditionally, especially during the times we needed it the most. However, there are times when our
mother s do things even if we don t agree with it. Take Jing Mei and her mother from the story Two
Kinds by Amy Tan, for example. Jing Mei is a girl raised by her overbearing mother, a Chinese

into this prodigy comes from television movies. She explains, My mother thought I could be a
Chinese Shirley Temple. We d watch Shirley s old movies on TV as though they were training films

becomes determined to turn her into this prodigy. We begin to see that Jing Mei mother demands her

The Creation Of The World
Creation stories are obviously stories about the creation of the world. They, just like us, vary in their
origins and how they are structured. Each contains the tale of how that certain culture or religion
views the beginning of everything, ranging from the animals to the world itself. Creators came in the
form of gods or other super human beings and they handled each world differently. These stories each
gave us an idea of how the world we are living in was made, and some even tells us about how we
were made.
The creation stories I have chosen originate in China, the Christian religion, and finally, a Norse
creation story. They all include some big, super human creator, though they handle the story a bit
differently than each other. No matter what though, they still are connected in the fact that they talk
about the creation of the world, and that connection is eternal. Creation stories have given each person
a view of what happened way before their own time and it sticks with people as they go through time.
Each story can reflect how that religion or culture worked and it is quite interesting. These stories help
bind many people together, and even the most different of people can find similarities between each
other and come together using these stories.
We shall start off with the Chinese view of the creation of the world. Their story begins with the
heavens and Earth being one and everything being in chaos. A man named Pan Gu was being carried

Free Trade In America
Problem: Working class Americans experience difficulties in finding work as labor intensive jobs are
moved abroad. At the same time free trade is beneficial for the global economy as a whole. Here we
can see a clash in interests as the interests of those in developing countries are protected as well by the
WTO and free trade tends to be beneficial for the economy as a whole. However, the problem is that
20% of the prime male working population between the ages of 25 54 are unemployed and this
number is around 35% of those who don t have a high school diploma. For marginalized groups such
as African American males the teen unemployment is over 40% and that of young black men from the
ages of 16 24 is over 30%.

As tariffs would disadvantage free international trade it is important to focus on how much is possible

The US might follow the course that Western European nations follow in decreasing the
unemployment rate. Countries such as Germany have been using strategies such as job sharing and
short time work to encourage employers to cut the hours instead of laying off their employees. This
method has never been implemented in the US and could be quite successful.
Training is another factor that could reduce the unemployment rate of low skilled workers. Training,
however, is mostly offered by employers and not by the government. Often training is also offered to
the most skilled and educated workers opposed to low skilled workers. Furthermore, the amount of
money spent on training by the government only entails 0,4% of the American GDP, whereas, it is

Safety is a major concern when it comes to the excavation and trenching of soil. While large machines
can perform these tasks effectively when there is adequate space, mini diggers are the better
alternative for those places that have limited space. Heavy, massive excavators will not manoeuvre
easily in these spaces, and this may lead to accidents and injuries. On the other hand, mini excavators

Infantile Autism Essay
What is Autism? Did you know, according to CCN, about sixty eight children has Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD)? ASD, also known as autism, is a brain disorder that interferes with a person s
behavior and/or interactions with others. The word autism, which has been in use for about 100 years,
comes from the Greek word autos, meaning self. The term describes conditions in which a person is
removed from social interaction hence, an isolated self (WedMD). Autism itself is often called autistic
disorder , childhood autism , or infantile autism . It appears in infancy and early childhood, causing

The word Autism was first used in 1908 to describe schizophrenia, a brain disorder in which people
interpret reality abnormally, people who were self absorbed or cocky. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kenner was the
first to used Autism for kids who were highly intelligent but did not want to interact with others, he
called this early infantile autism. In 1950, Bruno Bettelhiem, a child development specialist, viewed
autism was being caused by emotionally cold and distanced mothers. This became known as the
Refrigerator Mother Theory . The Refrigerator Mother Theory is when a mother does not interact, or
play, with the child at all, causing the child to be fridged ( David E. Simpson, J.J. Hanley, and Gordon
Quinn in the film History of Autism Blame ). In 1987, The DSM ( Dianostic and Statistical Manual of
Matal Disorders) replaced infantile autism with autism disorder . Around this time, researchers used to
think the cause of autism was due to bad parenting. Not only that, the federal government made autism
a special education category. This allowed public schools to start knowing children with autism and
offer them special services. Some children would be sent to foster care to see if they would recover
back then, By this time, many researchers were convinced that the basic reasons were to be found in
neurological disturbances, sometimes combined with hereditary illnesses like tuberous sclerosis,
metabolic disturbances like PKU or chromosomal aberrations such as fragile X chromosome (Certec).
In 1994, the National Alliance for Autism Research and Cure Autism Now raised awareness about
ASD. Later on that year, researchers began to believe that the cause of autism was due to mercury in
vaccines. This lead to vaccine makers to stop making thimerosal, a vaccine that is made of mainly
mercury. In 2001, the National Institute of Health could not find

Van Gogh failure In the realm of art there have been numerous accounts of infamous artists who have
stood out in their art period, such as Goya, Monet and Picasso. One artist who stood out during his art
period was Vincent van Gogh, not only for his artwork but also because of his tragic life. Vincent van

Gauguin expressed that they simply could not live together in peace, and expressed his need to

Though one may think that even though society could not accept van Gogh surely his family would be
able to bear him, but this was not the case. Van Gogh also failed in having a stable relationship with
his family. In his early adulthood, Vincent had already lost the respect of one of his family members:
At the age of twenty three years he is now thrown out of employment, without any chance of a better
career; Uncle Vincent is deeply disappointed in his namesake and washes his hands of him. (44). At
twenty three, his uncle gave him a chance to advance himself, but he ends up failing miserably and so
his uncle, being fairly disappointed, washes his hands of any responsibility of Vincent. Later in his
life, van Gogh struggles as a painter and had received help from his family. He moved in with his
family and hoped to grow as an artist but ended up further alienating his family, In consequence of
several disagreeable discussions with the other members of the family, he resolved to live no longer at

The Politics Of Political Parties
The History of Political Parties
and the importance of party platforms

Anthony Cozzitorto
Ohio University
Abstract
This paper will examine the history of political parties in the United States, and also the importance of
platforms in those political parties. Research was conducted on internet resources along with books
written by political scientist.
It has been a year filled with political talk because of the 2016 Presidential election in the United
States. With the running of two very different candidates, America was glued to their TV sets, internet
connections, or their cell phones looking to get a taste of political history. It was dirty dog fight from
both sides of the political scale. People across the country would either decide to tune in or tune out to
the election. The most important question I would ask is how we got to this place in history were
people no longer trust political parties to do the right thang by the American people. An exposed,
participant angled, workable, and representative system of political parties functioning within free and
fair electoral procedures accomplishes duties that make democratic government possible.
Political parties always have been in a progression of change. This is because they have had to adjust
to developments in their societies, and in the environment in which they operate more largely.
It was first thought that the founding fathers were going to stay away from the formation of political

Stephen King, and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. For my short story text I have chose The Tell Tale

studied these texts I have noticed connections throughout and how they intertwine with one another.
My first connection is that secrecy leads to karma. This connection is between Frankenstein and The

one that lurks in the background but is always there. Another connection I have made is the
destructive power of revenge. This is between Frankenstein and The Woman In Black. I believe this is
one of the main connections throughout these texts because it alludes to the gothic genre, and the
gothic genre is all about revenge and conflict between two people or a group of people which my texts
suggest. My other connection is between The Woman In Black and the novel It. This theme is shown
greatly in both the film and the novel, which is the power of memory and how it can be destructive. I

Lesson 1 Sequencing Lesson
Lesson 1 will start off with a brief vocabulary lesson for the students that builds on cardinal
vocabulary words previously taught in math class (1, 2, 3, 4). This brief vocabulary lesson will help
students link these vocabulary words to sequencing events by teaching them the corresponding ordinal
number words (first, second, third, fourth). Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their
understanding of sequential language and their ability recall a sequence of events from a story in order
in a meaningful way through the use of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Students will have
the chance to independently exercise the skill of sequencing when they are asked to recall the events
that take place in the story in the order that they happened in the story. Students will show their ability

text. I will read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly to the students. The students will have
to recall the different things that the old lady ate, in order, using signal words. After the story, the
students will have to draw three things the old lady swallowed in the correct order. This activity

Reality Check on Year Round Schooling Many people, including President Barack Obama believe that
year round schooling is the best option for American students, because the year round system gives
students equal amount of time in school, while increasing the efficiency of a single school building
(Ave 1B). More than two million students in some three thousand U.S. schools attend year round
programs in 41 states (Lawson 48). This astonishing number seems large, but really is only 2% of

Also, without public support, year round will fail because the parent s reluctance to send their children

vacation. If a school decides to go year round, communication between the community and school
would have must be very clear as to when students are supposed to be in school (Wildman et al. 465).
The disadvantages of year round schooling are just as important as the advantages. Cost and benefits
in learning show through the massive 98% of students that attend nine month systems. When a school

Nothing Can Be Good or Evil in Itself
Truth, beauty, and goodness are not eternal, objective realities which man discovers, but are the

Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a flower
would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing in a flower
that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not have the ability
to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of course, Webster s
dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some confusion when
addressing it.
So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the
senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s dictionary,
which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of suffering, misfortune,
and wrongdoing. (Merriam Webster) Evil would be any intention to cause an undesirable effect upon
one s self or on another person. So by saying that the intentions of a person are not to cause good we
automatically assume that they are out to cause evil.
For instance, religious and political leaders of Dr. Martin Luther King s time resisted all efforts on his
part toward equality because he would be attempting to change an accepted way of life. King

The Objectives Of The Sustainable Development Goals
Goal 14 of the Sustainable Development Goals aims to Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas
and marine resources for sustainable development. ( Open Working Group Proposal for Sustainable
Development Goals. ) Under this main goal lies seven sub goals, of which some are more measurable
than others. All goals can be measured with a quantifiable unit, although some measurements may be
harder to interpret than others. Goal 14.1 logically proves to be measurable, as marine pollution is a
material measure. Target 14.2, to sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems can
be interpreted and measured in various ways, whether it means to protect certain species by
calculating the population, or protect habitats and certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

since 1983, been involved on an increasing scale in the preparation of the necessary scientific and

Mediterranean Sea against pollution from land based sources. (Saliba, 1989, p. 39) The MED POL
program is an UN affiliated program specific to monitoring the pollution of the Mediterranean Sea.
There is no singular organization that measures global data on marine pollution, however the data is
readily available from many reliable sources. As technology continues to innovate science, new
measures have been created; for instance it has been discovered that the refraction index of sea water
changes when it is polluted and marine monitoring systems have been created around this as part of
research in universities. (Shi et al 347)
14.2 is also measured effectively in the many ways it presents itself. Marine and coastal ecosystems
are effected by a number of things including urban development, hazardous or toxic substances,
overfishing, habitat destruction, the introduction of exotic species and natural toxins. (Wells 39) In

Theme Of Fathers And Sons
1.2. Fathers And Sons
Fathers and Sons is a story from the collection Winner Take Nothing, written in 1933. The narrator is
thirty eight years old Nick Adams, who is driving across the country with his son. It is his
homecoming which evokes memories. The main plot is composed mostly around Nick s memories
about his childhood and his father. Such composition makes an impression of a chronicle containing
the description of the relationship between three gen erations of men. It is also the last story about
Nick Adams. Hemingway bluntly highlights in this short story the theme of masculinity. There are all
elements he always believed to be manly: fishing, haunting, guns and desperate attempts to prove
courage and being a real man. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also frequently touches upon an issue of veterans impaired ability to establish social relations, for

political relationships. Krebs was stuck between enjoying the girls look and reluctance to start a
conversation. While describing the ladies, there is a frequent repetition of the word like . Krebs liked

John Walker Case Summary
The second probe concerned allegations of coordination between the Walker campaign and several pro
Walker political action committees during his recall election in 2012. After exhaustive legal battles at
several levels of the state court system the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a sweeping decision, ruled
the Walker campaign had not violated any campaign finance laws. Importantly, a lower court had
previously determined that no laws were violated even if Walker s campaign and the groups had
worked together. Walker, along with fellow republican, chose to denounce the second John Doe probe
as without merit and politically motivated: They were looking for just about anything. As I pointed out
at the time, it was largely a political witch hunt. Court documents released as a ... Show more content

Regardless of Walker s decision making process, the Governor should ve been able to develop a
policy avenue that minimizes conflicts of interest while also achieve his desired goals. If Walker had a
legitimate and dutiful motive for carrying out the changes to the campaign finance, ethics, and John
Doe investigatory standards, then the governor should have taken additional steps to insulate himself
from the policy changes. For example, the Governor could have postponed the rule changes until the
end of his political career (final term), thereby removing the perceived incentive to position himself
against future ethics violations. While it is impossible to address the ethical implications of the policy
change itself, the ethically dubious manner in which the two matters were passed. Because it is
difficult to wholly understand the motive for these changes, given the nuances of the political system,
any suggestions posed in this paper must be limited to the Goerner s decision to spearhead the shifts in
policy. Similarly, it would be interesting to make a determination of ethicality in the actions of the

has been observed that practically strong couple modes having equal or nearly equal propagation

Rights For Minors
Rights for Minors Minors do not have the same rights and privileges as adults do. They wish they
could have those rights, but society thinks differently. First, when people are in public, they all have to

the same rights as adults. Most children by law have a curfew. Ages 13 and under during the school

A Trip to the Roman Theatre Essay
A Trip to the Roman Theatre
Morning at last! I have been waiting for this day for so long. Today is March the 15th. Today is the
day when the whole of Italy will celebrate the festival of Anna Perenna the goddess of the year. I love
festivals, because everyone is on holiday and all the citizens are forbidden to work or do business. I
am thrilled because I am going to the theatre to see a play. I am very fortunate that my father has paid
for the actors and producers to perform the play and he has also paid for the scenery and costumes. As
well as this he has paid for all the citizens of Pompeii to come and watch the play. My father has given
my mother and me a special token, which entitles us to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the other slaves and slave girls so that you all can get a good seat near the front I will come later with
my mother.

My mother had often told me how much fun she had when she went to the theatre. Her favourite play
writer and actor was Titus Maccius Plautus. She told me about the hilarious comedies with their rude
jokes by Titus Maccius Plautus. My mother also liked watching more serious plays. She told me that
even though they were only plays, they portrayed life very well, and were very realistic. She told me
about one particular play she watched, this was a serious play and at the end of it the main character in
the play was murdered by his friend. My mother told me that a man from the audience took the place
of the actor who was going to die at the

Soc 181A Final Paper
Why did the umbrella revolution didn t have any significant impact to the political system and
relationship between Hong Kong and China? This essay will focus on what are the similarities and
differences between Umbrella revolution and the Tiananmen incident in June, 4, 1989. Chinese
government have promised the One Country, Two System Law at the Sino British Joint Declaration in
1984 in return for the Hong Kong s sovereignty in 1997, which was an official colony of the British
government after the Opium War in 1897. However, the Chinese government have failed to follow this
agreement throughout these past ten years and many Hong Kongers are not happy with the degree of
involvement of the Chinese Government in various political progress, especially the appoint of the
Chief Executive of Hong Kong, CY Leung. This essay will also attempt to examine why the Hong
Kong Chief executive, CY Leung, can still retain the position after a lot of Hong Kong citizens had
exploded grievances that particularly focused on his way of compromising with the Chinese
government during the umbrella revolution.
Before I discuss the similarities and differences between Umbrella revolution and the Tiananmen
incident, I will first explain some essential history background that lead to Hong Kong such a special
region. Hong Kong is combined with three main components and 230 islands, Hong kong island,
Kowloon and New Territories. Hong Kong became a Colony of the british

Why Did Diocletian Reform The Roman Empire
Diocletian understood that ruling over a major political entity like the Roman Empire was too difficult
for one ruler. This lead to the first major political reform of the Roman Empire. Diocletian s solution
to this problem was the tetrarchy. Diocletian divide the empire into 4 territories that were all ruled by a
separate leader. The tetrarchy was to help bring the empire back to the ways of the Good Emperors
where the succession of power was peaceful. Diocletian wanted the Emperors to select their
successors from the ranks of the nobles. After Diocletian s retirement in 305 CE, his hope for a
smooth transition of power quickly turned into complete chaos. Diocletian also tried to reform the
economy of the empire to provide it with stimulation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Visigoths were being forced into the empire the Huns and there leader Attila. The Visigoth
eventually settled in the areas of Spain and Gaul were they won the right to settle. Roman had been
importing slaves, servants, and soldiers into the empire. It wasn t until the population of the Visigoths
in the Empire increased that the peaceful arrangement ended. The Romans treated the Visigoth poorly
which led to the Visigoths rebelling against Valens at the Battle of Adrianople and defeating him.
When the defeat of Valens, the Romans allowed the barbicans to form settlements in the center of the
empire. The Vandals, within three decades, had gained control over northwest Africa and the majority
of the Mediterranean. The Burgundians came into the Empire right after the Vandals and settled in
Gaul. The Franks settle in north and central Gaul.
How did these tribes take over such a mighty empire so easily? The invaders were successful because
they came in rapid succession upon badly overextend Western empire divided politically by ambitious
military commanders and weakened by decades of famine pestilence and over taxation (KOTF 184).
The Romans tried to assimilate the barbarians in to their armies. This barbarizing of the army just lead
to a further weakening of the army. By the middle of the 5th century, the power of the Roman Empire

Socrates
Socrates was one of the greatest Greek philosophers. His work was not to propose any specific
knowledge or policy: it was to show how argument, debate, and discussion could help men to
understand difficult issues. Most of the issues he dealt with were only political on the surface.
Underneath, they were moral questions about how life should be lived. Such is the influence of
Socrates that philosophers before him are called the Presocratic philosophers. Socrates made enemies,
three of whom brought charges against him. Socrates was tried for his life in 399 BC, found guilty,
and put to death by drinking hemlock. The story of his trial and death is the subject of a tract by Plato
which is called the Apologia. Most of what we know about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Plato s works, Socrates says he knows nothing, but can draw out other people s ideas just as his
mother helped other women to give birth. In 399 BC, when Socrates was an old man, three citizens
Meletus, Anytus and Lycon brought charges against Socrates. A trial was held. In ancient Athens the
procedure was quite different from the present day. There was a jury of 500 men drawn from the
citizens. Both the accusers and the defendant had to make speeches in person to the jury. Guilt or
innocence was by majority vote. There was no preset penalty if the verdict was guilty . Both the
accuser and the defendant would make speeches proposing what the penalty should be. Again, a vote
was taken. There were two charges against him. The general theme was that Socrates was a menace to
society. The first charge was of heresy, disbelief in the Gods. It was probably meant to cause prejudice
amongst the jurymen. Actually, Socrates observed all the correct procedures of the religion of his
times. The charge had been used successfully against another philosopher, Anaxagoras. The second
charge was that he corrupted the youth with his teachings. What was meant by this? Apparently, this
was not about his personal relationship with his pupils. It was about the way he was thought to
influence their political views. His circle had included a number of right wing aristocrats whose ideas
were now rejected by most citizens. The brilliant

I Watched A Play About A Puerto Rican Woman
On April 8th, 2016, I watched a play about a Puerto Rican woman named Marisol who went through
the emotional heartbreak of her angel leaving to go fight against God and trying to survive in an

I walked down the polished floor of the Don Taft University Center of Nova Southeastern University
towards the Black Box Theatre. I handed my ticket for Marisol to a smiling and courteous attendant
that was dressed in a nice black outfit that consisted of black slacks paired with a black shirt. The man
across from this smiling assistant was another attendant wearing a similar outfit that handed me a

There were several grayish blackish walls that were lined with jagged edges. These walls were
covered in cracks and huge holes, holes big enough for a person to go through. There was an

whole stage in front of me looked like a group of savages decided to wreak havoc all over the scene. It
the stage reminded me of what an area would look like after a riot As I sat down, the music before the
play started was upbeat Spanish music that made me feel like I wanted to dance. It set the mood that
this must involve someone that is Spanish or is set in a Spanish area. The lighting during this point
was not too bright but not too dark either, the lighting was just enough for the audience to see the
stage. As the last bits of people started settling in their seats, two young women, both dressed
professionally, walked towards the center of the stage and stated that we must turn off our cell phones
and refrain from extending our arms near the stage during the play. Apparently, the reason for this
warning was because there are parts of the play where people walk up and down the extended pieces
of the stage. This caused my mouth to go slack, this meant that the audience is able to be near the
actors and are able to get a closer look at the scene that is playing at the time. The young ladies

(http://quoteaddicts.com/748653) (C.I) Most people think of Santa, presents, and candy canes when they are asked what resembles Christmas while overlooking the smaller symbols and traditions. (GS 1) A timely tradition shared among the past and present people of society is Secret Santa. (GS 2) Although it is widely popular, it is also commonly underrated as one of the representations of Christmas, this being seasonal light shows. • 3. Style Elements And Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron Style Elements and Harrison Bergeron It is quite difficult to detail a dystopian future without thinking about the variables. What time period shall it be? What new laws will be enacted to cause the dystopia? How will the characters be portrayed, and what shall be their challenges? These variables would be enough to repel authors from this topic, but one author managed to perfectly describe a dystopian future with his short piece, Harrison Bergeron. This short story, written by Kurt Vonnegut, has been renowned for showing an almost perfect dystopia. Through the use of stylistic elements such as diction, imagery, and details, Vonnegut reveals a grim tone, where even if good tries to prevail, it will be stopped and forgotten. In Harrison ... Over the past five years, it has lifted all its gross margins by manufacturing solely in low cost markets. In 2000 it decided to renew Sanyo s Japanese licence for 20 ten years. This means that almost half of Burberry s sales at retail value will continue to be produced under licence in Asia. At the same time however, Japanese consumers prefer the group s European made products. Sanyo is now creating to this demand for a snob alternative to the Burberry products made in its factories across Asia by opening a flagship store in Tokyo s Ginza, where it sells Burberry products imported from Europe. In interviews with the FT, many executives says the top luxury brands will continue to be seen, particularly in Asia, as European. • 5. Questions On The Law Of International Peace And Security Although article 16 of the ICC s statute provides for deferral, the deliberations of the Kenyan deferral requests bring out critical legal issues and gaps that need to be addressed. Article 16 reads as follows, No investigation or prosecution may be commenced or proceeded with under this Statute for a period of 12 months after the Security Council, in a resolution adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations has requested the Court to that effect; that request may be renewed by the Council under the same conditions . This therefore means the major consideration before a deferral is arrived at is whether an investigation or prosecution is a threat to international peace and security or not. However, from the analysis of this study, the two deferrals by UNSC and two non deferrals shows a different picture as the issue of the threat of international peace and security was not extensively considered by the UNSC. In the Kenyan situation, there was an attempt to examine whether its request met the threshold in article 16 but as noted by the Argentina representative, this issue was not given proper attention. In fact, the representative stated that, her delegation had abstained because it was the Council s duty to interpret strictly whether the trial posed a threat to international peace and security, and Argentina did not think it did. By not analysing whether the Kenyan situation was a threat to international peace and security and especially by those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Francisco Goya Research Paper The French Revolution, which was a critical period of reformation, was an era in which war happened frequently. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was an important artist of that time, who created many artwork that portrayed wars. In the analysis of his masterpieces, people can find his disappointment in how people pursue freedom, their ignorance, and the brutality of the wars. Freedom was one of the main ideas in French Revolution, but in Goya s painting, he was disappointed in how the society fought for it. In his artwork, he showed the stupidity of how people pursued freedom during that period. In The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters (1797 1798), Goya used the mocking owls and bats to imply folly and ignorance, while the lynx stayed alert against the monsters of greed and stupidity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Disasters of War (1810 1820), he showed how brutal the French were in the invasion of Spain. In the early plates of the series, Goya depicted the dead and injured are carried away, soldiers strip corpses, which are then thrown into a common grave in the Plate 18 Bury them and keep quiet (Tomlinson 1994, p.191). This picture wholly described how the war looked in Spain during that time: how people were killed and then buried like it was a normal scenario. The ruthlessness of the French also sent out another message that beauty is not only destroyed, but grotesquely ravaged to attest the end of any faith in an ideal (p.193). In the paintings, people lost their dignity, and there are no heroes countless unidentified victims in the picture, which indicate that humanity is only ideal in the Revolution (p.202). The hand gestures in the paintings are in motion, which emphasized the instantaneity of the climax. For example, in the painting, the soldiers are holding arms and already stabbing it into the victims. The capture of the particular moment reinforce the brutality of people in that ... In fact, almost 1 bride in 3 in the United States is opting for a square diamond featuring the Asscher cut. These diamonds offer a timeless vintage feel without looking old fashioned. The square cut adds symmetry to a setting and the diamond can be set alone or surrounded with smaller diamonds for extra sparkle and bling. The Asscher cut is also sometimes known as a modified cushion cut, or a square emerald cut. The distinctive feature of this sophisticated cut is the square shape with corners cut deeply to look like an octagon. The Asscher cut has been patented by the Asscher family, and every genuine Asscher diamond will display the patent lasered on the stone. (This is not visible to the naked eye.) ... Asscher cut diamonds tend to look best when set in white metal, but in this day and age any look and style is encouraged. Due to the cut of these diamonds they give off a startling depth when looking into them. History of Asscher diamonds: The Asscher cut was originally designed in 1902, and fast became very popular in the 1920 s, suiting the art deco engagement rings perfectly. The Asscher cut got an overhaul in 2001, adding 16 extra facets to the original cut to increase the sparkle factor. This new improved design has been repatented and is apparently harder to copy. Our mothers forgave us when it seemed like no one else could. They comforted us when it felt like everything was going down hill. And they have loved us unconditionally, especially during the times we needed it the most. However, there are times when our mother s do things even if we don t agree with it. Take Jing Mei and her mother from the story Two Kinds by Amy Tan, for example. We d watch Shirley s old movies on TV as though they were training films (Roberts). • 9. The Creation Of The World Creation stories are obviously stories about the creation of the world. They, just like us, vary in their origins and how they are structured. Each contains the tale of how that certain culture or religion views the beginning of everything, ranging from the animals to the world itself. Creators came in the form of gods or other super human beings and they handled each world differently. These stories each gave us an idea of how the world we are living in was made, and some even tells us about how we were made. The creation stories I have chosen originate in China, the Christian religion, and finally, a Norse creation story. They all include some big, super human creator, though they handle the story a bit differently than each other. No matter what though, they still are connected in the fact that they talk about the creation of the world, and that connection is eternal. Creation stories have given each person a view of what happened way before their own time and it sticks with people as they go through time. Each story can reflect how that religion or culture worked and it is quite interesting. These stories help bind many people together, and even the most different of people can find similarities between each other and come together using these stories. We shall start off with the Chinese view of the creation of the world. Their story begins with the heavens and Earth being one and everything being in chaos. • 10. Free Trade In America Problem: Working class Americans experience difficulties in finding work as labor intensive jobs are moved abroad. At the same time free trade is beneficial for the global economy as a whole. Here we can see a clash in interests as the interests of those in developing countries are protected as well by the WTO and free trade tends to be beneficial for the economy as a whole. ASD, also known as autism, is a brain disorder that interferes with a person s behavior and/or interactions with others. The word autism, which has been in use for about 100 years, comes from the Greek word autos, meaning self. The term describes conditions in which a person is removed from social interaction hence, an isolated self (WedMD). Autism itself is often called autistic disorder , childhood autism , or infantile autism . The word Autism was first used in 1908 to describe schizophrenia, a brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally, people who were self absorbed or cocky. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kenner was the first to used Autism for kids who were highly intelligent but did not want to interact with others, he called this early infantile autism. In 1950, Bruno Bettelhiem, a child development specialist, viewed autism was being caused by emotionally cold and distanced mothers. This became known as the Refrigerator Mother Theory . The Refrigerator Mother Theory is when a mother does not interact, or play, with the child at all, causing the child to be fridged ( David E. Simpson, J.J. Hanley, and Gordon Quinn in the film History of Autism Blame ). In 1987, The DSM ( Dianostic and Statistical Manual of Matal Disorders) replaced infantile autism with autism disorder . Around this time, researchers used to think the cause of autism was due to bad parenting. Not only that, the federal government made autism a special education category. This allowed public schools to start knowing children with autism and offer them special services. Some children would be sent to foster care to see if they would recover back then, By this time, many researchers were convinced that the basic reasons were to be found in neurological disturbances, sometimes combined with hereditary illnesses like tuberous sclerosis, metabolic disturbances like PKU or chromosomal aberrations such as fragile X chromosome (Certec). In 1994, the National Alliance for Autism Research and Cure Autism Now raised awareness about ASD. Later on that year, researchers began to believe that the cause of autism was due to mercury in vaccines. This lead to vaccine makers to stop making thimerosal, a vaccine that is made of mainly mercury. In 2001, the National Institute of Health could not find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Politics Of Political Parties The History of Political Parties and the importance of party platforms 11/30/2016 Anthony Cozzitorto Ohio University Abstract This paper will examine the history of political parties in the United States, and also the importance of platforms in those political parties. Research was conducted on internet resources along with books written by political scientist. It has been a year filled with political talk because of the 2016 Presidential election in the United States. With the running of two very different candidates, America was glued to their TV sets, internet connections, or their cell phones looking to get a taste of political history. It was dirty dog fight from both sides of the political scale. People across the country would either decide to tune in or tune out to the election. The most important question I would ask is how we got to this place in history were people no longer trust political parties to do the right thang by the American people. An exposed, participant angled, workable, and representative system of political parties functioning within free and fair electoral procedures accomplishes duties that make democratic government possible. Political parties always have been in a progression of change. This is because they have had to adjust to developments in their societies, and in the environment in which they operate more largely. It was first thought that the founding fathers were going to stay away from the formation of political ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Good must also be addressed in terms not related to human actions. In the eyes of our society, a flower would be undoubtedly considered good, or a symbol of good. However, there is nothing in a flower that makes it good, other than its ability to be pleasing to society. The flower does not have the ability to make an overt decision to cause evil; therefore we view it as being good. Of course, Webster s dictionary doesn t quite cover this concept of good and tends to cause some confusion when addressing it. So, what is evil? Is it Hitler s near annihilation of the Jewish people during World War II or the senseless massacre at Ti enneman Square on mainland China? Again we turn to Webster s dictionary, which states evil as causing distress or harm, a source of sorrow, and the fact of suffering, misfortune, and wrongdoing. So by saying that the intentions of a person are not to cause good we automatically assume that they are out to cause evil. • 34. Socrates Socrates was one of the greatest Greek philosophers. His work was not to propose any specific knowledge or policy: it was to show how argument, debate, and discussion could help men to understand difficult issues. Most of the issues he dealt with were only political on the surface. Underneath, they were moral questions about how life should be lived. Such is the influence of Socrates that philosophers before him are called the Presocratic philosophers. Socrates made enemies, three of whom brought charges against him. Socrates was tried for his life in 399 BC, found guilty, and put to death by drinking hemlock. The story of his trial and death is the subject of a tract by Plato which is called the Apologia. In Plato s works, Socrates says he knows nothing, but can draw out other people s ideas just as his mother helped other women to give birth. In 399 BC, when Socrates was an old man, three citizens Meletus, Anytus and Lycon brought charges against Socrates. A trial was held. In ancient Athens the procedure was quite different from the present day. There was a jury of 500 men drawn from the citizens. Both the accusers and the defendant had to make speeches in person to the jury. Guilt or innocence was by majority vote. There was no preset penalty if the verdict was guilty . Both the accuser and the defendant would make speeches proposing what the penalty should be. Again, a vote was taken. There were two charges against him. The general theme was that Socrates was a menace to society. The first charge was of heresy, disbelief in the Gods. It was probably meant to cause prejudice amongst the jurymen. Actually, Socrates observed all the correct procedures of the religion of his times. The charge had been used successfully against another philosopher, Anaxagoras. The second charge was that he corrupted the youth with his teachings. What was meant by this? Apparently, this was not about his personal relationship with his pupils. It was about the way he was thought to influence their political views. His circle had included a number of right wing aristocrats whose ideas were now rejected by most citizens. The brilliant ... • 35. I Watched A Play About A Puerto Rican Woman On April 8th, 2016, I watched a play about a Puerto Rican woman named Marisol who went through the emotional heartbreak of her angel leaving to go fight against God and trying to survive in an apocalyptic world. This magnificent, humorous and emotional play is simply named Marisol. I walked down the polished floor of the Don Taft University Center of Nova Southeastern University towards the Black Box Theatre. I handed my ticket for Marisol to a smiling and courteous attendant that was dressed in a nice black outfit that consisted of black slacks paired with a black shirt. The man across from this smiling assistant was another attendant wearing a similar outfit that handed me a program with a beautiful smile. My experience started off ... These walls were covered in cracks and huge holes, holes big enough for a person to go through. There was an abundance of graffiti all over the wall that consisted of various signs, symbols, and some phrases. The whole stage in front of me looked like a group of savages decided to wreak havoc all over the scene. It the stage reminded me of what an area would look like after a riot As I sat down, the music before the play started was upbeat Spanish music that made me feel like I wanted to dance. It set the mood that this must involve someone that is Spanish or is set in a Spanish area. The lighting during this point was not too bright but not too dark either, the lighting was just enough for the audience to see the stage. As the last bits of people started settling in their seats, two young women, both dressed professionally, walked towards the center of the stage and stated that we must turn off our cell phones and refrain from extending our arms near the stage during the play. Apparently, the reason for this warning was because there are parts of the play where people walk up and down the extended pieces of the stage. This caused my mouth to go slack, this meant that the audience is able to be near the actors and are able to get a closer look at the scene that is playing at the time. The young ladies ...
