A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings
Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a
gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male
partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict.
Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone
once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should
get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the
wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women
by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her
only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation
some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination.
In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health
complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person
involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly
health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not
everything works out according to plan. These are all related to the idea that by placing a dominant
person in the relationship

Altruism In Night By Eliezer Wiesel
In Night, altruism is what separates man from a beast of the concentration camp. Humans as a
species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own
well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow
man. In Night, Eliezer Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman
conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, Eliezer s sense of altruism and compassion essentially
disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive.
Not yet exposed to the horrors of a concentration camp, Eliezer enters Birkenau with his innate
compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, he witnesses the burning of ... Show more

In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Eliezer is
beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to
sacrifice his own well being to help others that he entered the camp with. Although a suggestion
of worry and compassion remains in Eliezer s tone, these senses are inadequate for Eliezer to
forgo his own safety and well being. In this, Eliezer has become selfish. He has begun to lose his
altruism. However, even in the face of the ever present self interest seen in other prisoners of the
camp, Eliezer fails to lose this important side of himself completely.
Nonetheless, Eliezer does not completely lose his sense of altruism, especially concerning his
father. In the time before Eliezer s father s death, Eliezer attempts to prolong his father s life at
the cost of his own chances of survival. In willingly surrendering his own rations for his father s
welfare, Eliezer indicates that altruism is still present in him. However, others around Eliezer
do not believe in this concept of altruism; instead, they think Eliezer should not believe in the
obligation to help his father simply because of familial bonds, Eliezer should focus on his own
survival (Wiesel 111). Regardless of this pressure, Eliezer continues to sacrifice his own well being
by offering his rations. Why? For Eliezer, his father is a projection of his old faith in

Thesis For The Lottery
Being stoned to death by 300 of your friends and family is possibly the worst way anyone would
ever want to be killed. In the short story The Lottery written by an author Shirley Jackson, she
mentions about a small village consisting of 300 residents who most reluctantly participate in an
annual lottery drawing. I know, who in their right mind would hesitate to be a part of an event that
gives you a possibility of winning a prize, which makes you wonder what the prize is. At the end of
the story the protagonist, Mrs. Hutchinson, who also happens to be the winner of the lotteryis stoned
to death. I argue that Jackson wrote this story to inform us how living in a small community isn t
always a great thing because in a small population people start gossiping about one another, which
can lead to issues and could turn into hatred.
I believe that winning is not always a good thing because it can be ... Show more content on

One can say that there are certain demons that inhabit the closest people in your life, such as
betrayal and jealousy to protect themselves. To shed more light on this, in the short story The
Lottery stated that, And someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles and closes in on her
(Jackson). As I read this section of the story, I strongly believe that money tends to destroy the
strong bonds one has with their own family members. Furthermore, after seeing a movie clip of this
story, I seen Davy Hutchinson and Mr. Hutchinson moving away from Mrs. Hutchinson in a clam
way, they had no expression in their face that made them look hurt after what was going to happen
to Mrs. Hutchison (Jackson, Rando). I think that Jackson was showing us that your own family
turns against you and that cruel things would continue to happen in life. In addition, Jackson is
trying to say that winning is not always a positive thing or it s not guaranteed a happy

After reading the brief statements from Lanham, Elbow, and Halasek, each one offers its own views
on writing. Lanham, sheds light on the incorporation of style, that can will help us throughout the

Halasek talks about the six different types of audiences that could possibly be the focus of any paper
. The six types of audiences are: public, projected, textual, previous, immediate, and evaluative. A
public audience is there to help students get their ideas out into the public to help express their
message. Projected audience gives the writer a direction to head in when writing a paper. This
allows them to conduct their content and put it in order so that it best reaches their targeted
audience. This allows the writer to get constructive feedback on the direction he is heading with
his work. Textual audience is the complex part of writing, making sure that it all flows together
seemingly. Previous audience, is where they write towards an audience they already know, in
hopes to figure out the mistakes towards the new audience. Lastly, evaluative audience, is the final

Round Trip Copper Reactions Lab
The purpose of this lab was to evaluate our skills of decanting a supernatant liquid without losing
the solid and successful completion of a series of reactions. This was done through five chemical
reactions involving copper. In this lab, elemental copper was put through five different chemical
reactions in order to convert it into different compounds. By the end of the fifth reaction, the
copper was back to its elemental state. In the first reaction, 0.95 g of pure copper was reacted with
4.0 mL of concentrated nitric acid under the fume hood. The solution was swirled until all of the
copper had dissolved. The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows:
Cu (s) + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The black precipitate was allowed to settle and then the supernatant, the clear liquid that lies
above a precipitate, was decanted, or poured carefully off. Then, 200 mL of hot distilled water
was added and the precipitate was allowed to settle to repeat the decanting process again. In the
fourth reaction, 15 mL of 6.0 M sulfuric acid was added to the copper (II) oxide while stirring. The
balanced equation for this reaction is as follows:
CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) Г CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g)
When the sulfuric acid was added to copper (II) oxide, the solution turned blue. This was due to
the formation of aqueous copper (II) sulfate, which produced the copper ions to change the color
of the solution. In the fifth reaction, 2.29 g of zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution
under the fume hood. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as followed:
Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) Г ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)
When the zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, the solution started to bubble. As the
solution was stirred, it turned a cloudy blue. Small flecks of a brown solid were visible. As the
solution became colorless, the brown solid settled to the bottom of the beaker. The solid formed
was copper in its elemental state. The color faded from the solution as the copper ions slowly
formed into solid copper. The copper was poured into a funnel with filter paper and washed three
times with 25 mL

Abstract
Here we report the fabrication of a flexible all carbon field effect transistor (FET) using a low cost,
recyclable and biodegradable cellulose paper as both substrate as well as dielectric and pencil
graphite as source, drain, channel and gate without using any other expensive, toxic or non
biodegradable materials. The electron and hole mobility s of FET are observed to be 180 and
200 cm2v 1s 1 respectively which are comparable to the recently reported values of paper FET
with polymer dielectric and cellulose composite dielectrics. The FET was utilized as a strain
sensor which shows good sensitivity for low strains of both tensile and compressive type. The
mobility of the FET increases with increase in compressive strain and decreases with increase in
tensile strain. The sensitivity of the FET sensor increases with the increase in the gate voltage.
HERE YOU CAN MAKE A COMMENT ON HOW THIS STRAIN SENSOR IS BETTER THAN
SILICON STRAIN SENSORS IN PERFORMANCE.
Further we investigated the performance of the sensor by integrating it with hand gloves to detect
human motion. The results obtained indicate that the sensor can be utilized

Biblical Symbols Of The Bible
Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp
from one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background
knowledge to be able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have
been countless attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by
Origen of Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I
will be using this structure to explain a passage found in the Bibleto its greatest potential.
Afterwards, I will be analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us.
One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body,
narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark
12:1 12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesustells the chief priests,
teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading
literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from
the vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he
sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized
him, beat him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck
this man on the head and treated him

Egalitarianism In Australia
Introduction
Australian society is often defined as egalitarian since the government equally accepts the diversity
of population regardless of their personal backgrounds, socioeconomic status, health condition and
political opinions. The society is supposed to attach importance to the fair civil liberties, protect
local industries and provide every resident with welfare support, the opportunity of education and
employment. However, after world economy crisis brought great global change in the 1980s,
Australian political policy dramatically changed into profitability toward this competitive global
economy. This includes the decrease in protectionism, privatization of institutions, further
employment bargaining and also reduction of the subsidy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After the federation in 1901, this nation practiced protectionism for national industrial development
such as iron, steel, woolen goods, and motors. The regime set more than 60 percent tariff wall for
import and export to secure local income and employments in growing population. Consequently
the allocation of importation in Australia conserved more than 80 percent for the local markets, but
also maintained generous working conditions for employers and employee (Abbott, 1997). The
regime also focused on the wage fairness and providing welfare benefits based on the needs of
families and the individuals to maintain their standard living (Anderson, 1938). The government
practiced strong encouragement and created an environment for working and middle class
population to participate in universities with financial support between the 1940s and the 1990s.
Naturally, the university system and the governmental policy resulted in an increase rate of
university students and the low level of employment, which was around three percent in 1940 1970
(Gale Parker, 2013; Loundes, 1997). There were supports for persons who have chronicle diseases
and the government provided state government housing for population who had financial
difficulties. Therefore, this country started to be called welfare state (Greig et al.,

Dysfunctional Families in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams
Dysfunction and volatility is common amongst families. These families dislike their kin and often
resent them. In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams, the Politt family does not
function as a normal family. Brick, Maggie, and Big Daddy are three members of the family that
have the most problems that affect the whole family.
Brick, Maggie s alcoholic husband, is an uncaring man who has no good feelings toward his wife.
For example, when Maggie buys a gift for Brick to give to Big Daddy on his birthday and Maggie
wants Brick to sign the card, he says No... I don t have to do anything I don t want to do (28). Even

Maggie feels terribly unloved in her marriage with Brick. Because of her unfulfilling marriage
with Brick, she seeks affection and attention with someone close to Brick. In addition, when
Mae interrupts Maggie and Brick from conversing by talking about her own children and how
adorable they are, Maggie says, why did y give dawgs names to all your kiddies... sounds like four
dogs and a parrot (29). Maggie has a grudge Mae because she has many children with Gooper.
Maggie feels insecure about having children, so she mocks Mae and her offspring to reassure
herself and make her self feel better. Margaret has a dreadful relationship with Brick and also with
Mae and her kids.
Big Daddy, an old man with cancer, plays favorites with members of his family and dislikes his
wife. For example, when Big Daddy is talking with Brick, and finds Mae at the door, Big Daddy
says, I don t want you, I want some privacy here... with my son Brick (62). Big Daddy only likes
Brick and shows disgust for everyone else. Even though they are family, Big Daddy acts like
they are the scum of the earth. Furthermore, when Big Mama tries to walk into Big Daddy and

Essay About My Dream
Let me first start off by asking you a question, do you have a dream you are satisfied with? Do
you think your dream is good enough to make/keep you happy for the rest of your life in the
future? Now remember those questions and keep your answer in mind as you read this. At the
very end, did your answer change or stay the same? We shall see.
We all have dreams whether it s the one you get while sleeping, daydreaming in class, or the
dream you are working towards for. The main questions many ask today is what is my dream
(like a future career) or how will I make my dream come true? These are the questions I find
asking myself from a day to day basis. Another one and the most important question, in my opinion,
would probably be will I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Passion gives you a goal or a dream to chase after too. Another quote I hear pretty often is Have
Outstanding Passion Every Day! CollegeTrack. We strive with outstanding passion in whatever
we do, whether is completing a homework assignment, doing a sport, club activities, and just in
life in general. Having this passion gives you something to look forward to every day instead of
mindlessly getting up to go to school or work to do the same generic tasks everyday. Everyday is
a new day, which means there are new challenges, by having a passion it gives you the
motivation, the excitement to conquer new challenges. Think of it as Candy Crush, you worked
on a single level for days and you finally passed that level, the sense of accomplishment
encourages you to pass the next level and so forth. The kind of people with the most amount of
passion are CEO and entrepreneurs because they get to enjoy their creations in their business
every day, solve a new problem in their business or create another branch of their franchise. For
example, Bart Kwan and Joe Jo of JustKiddingFilms, who are very passionate about film and
comedy, combined their two interests and created a YouTube franchise where they dedicate
themselves to making comedic videos. Another example would be myself. I am very passionate
about happiness, wary of others feelings, tend to know when one is happy or sad, and know how
to properly comfort someone. I dedicate my free time to making sure the people around me are

U2-Sweetest Thing
U2 Sweetest Thing
I have chosen this song for the tone it brings to this soundtrack. The beginning of The Count of
Monte Cristo is vividly different from the rest, as it introduces a perfect character, who has the
greatest of girls to soon marry, and has been promoted to captain of his ship. I feel that this song
has the same tone to it, while hinting at a change of fortune soon in the future by repeating I m
losing you , which mirrors the effect that Danglars has at this point, of foreshadowing that things
will not stay this way for Dantes.
Midge Ure The Man Who Sold The World These lyrics connect to the relationship between
Dantes and Villefort, beginning from their first meeting in Villefort s office. The song portrays
Villefort as he is in the book, feigning to be Dante s friend, when he had only himself in mind.
(Lines 4,13). Dante s surprise during his conversation with Villefort is also reflected in line five.
The bridge between their first meeting and their last is in lines fourteen to twenty, which describe
his journey from the Chateau d if, where Edmond Dantes died, and the Count of Monte Cristo
roamed for years and years. His stare is also described as gazeless, just as the Count seems to see
the world around him. The second and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ВЎВ§Economic Theory Suggests that Markets are Efficient and Security Prices are Determined on
the Basis of Fundamental ValueВЎВЁ
Market efficiency requires that security prices react immediately in an unbiased way to the receipt
of new information (Robert Shiller S1998). In other words, an efficient capital market is one in
which stock prices fully reflect available information. In addition, there are three conditions for
market efficiency; information flows freely, market is composed of rational investors where all
competing against each other with the objective of maximizing wealth and there is no market
imperfections. In efficient market, investors actively compete in the market based upon perceived
mispricing derived from an analysis of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Best example recently would be the internet stocks from 1996 through 2002 where the price of the
internet stock roses over its fair value until the market forces the price back to its original level
(Russell J. Fuller 1995).
The above argument can fall into the theory of representativeness and conservatism. The principle
of representativeness implies overweighting the results of small sample. Financial economists have
argued that representativeness leads to overreaction in stock returns (Eugene Fama F1998). In the
case of internet companies, great revenue growth for a short time in the late 1990s, causing many to
believe that this growth would continue indefinitely. Stock prices rose (too much) at this point.
When, at last, investors realized that this growth could not be sustained, prices plummeted. On the
other hand, the theory of conservatism states that individuals adjust their beliefs too slowly to new
information. A market composed of this type of investor would likely lead to stock prices that
under react in the presence of new information. This is shown in the example of earning surprises .
It could be said that both representativeness and conservatism have opposite implications for stock
prices. Fama reviewed the academic studies on anomalies, finding that about half of them show
overreaction and about half show under reaction. He concludes that this evidence is consistent with
the market

The Unkonwn Whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
The unknown whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that disappeared on March 8,
2014, has left the families of the over 200 passengers aboard heartbroken and devastated. Thus
far, rescue units have failed to locate the massive Boeing 777 commercial jet, or any of the 227
passengers and 12 flight crew on it. This catastrophic event happened, and is failing to be solved,
because of the lack of necessary aircraft tracking, the struggle of knowing where to look, and what
faith to lean on and aircraft equipment failure.
Black boxes are modern electronic devices used now a days in some vehicles you see on the
roads and also aircrafts such as the Boeing 777 used for flight MH370. They gather and store
important information about the vehicles speed, altitude, time of day and engine conditions. The
purpose of this device is to solve any reasoning behind plane crashes, as the black box has enough
information to accurately tell you what went wrong, and why. So if a black box could be the
answer to solving what went wrong with this flight, then why hasn t it been solved yet? A modern
plane like the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 is jacked full of computers and sensors spinning out
enormous amounts of data, and yet the [black box] is connected to nothing. While it s up in the

Santa Claus Myths
Saint Nicholas, myth or legend? In order to determine the merits of Santa Claus and his effects on
Christmas, we must objectively review how his story aligns with the story of Jesus Christ.
Although Jesus is the reason for the season, distractions such as commercialism, religion and
cultural division have all played a part in detracting from this core message, however, these things
can all be reasoned with truth. But how do you reason with fiction? How can we inject fantasy into
the center of truth and maintain its veracity?
In examining the influence of Santa Claus on Christmas, we must first highlight his origin. Forbes

The concept of Santa Claus is something we are supposed to grow out of. Its celebrated as good,
wholesome fun for children, but how does he work alongside God. If we tell children that both
Santa and God are real and expect them to grow beyond one, then why not both. In truth they
both require the same substance to believe in there existence; faith in the unseen are both required
to believe, but faith in a lie is manipulation. The potency of Jesus Christ birth and ultimate,
salvation of humanity, is put on undue trial when one story is revealed as lie. Jesus informs us in
Matthew 18:6 7, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it

stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes! (New

Understanding these three terms and how to calculate them are keys to maximizing your gross
profit and net income while remaining competitive.
Operating expenses are listed under expenses in the profit and loss report. Only the direct cost
of the product is included in the calculation of cost of goods sold, margin, and markup. The cost
of goods sold varies directly with the volume of goods sold; each sale adds to cost of sales.
Operating expenses, on the other hand, are relatively fixed. The business will pay the same amount
of rent and utilities whether 10 items or 100 items are sold.

moving to continuous product cycles, bringing a consistent user interface to PCs, tablets, phones

Going forward, our strategy will focus on creating a family of devices and services for individuals

Life In Ancient Greece Today
Civilizations are a lot different now than they were in 800 B.C. Since then, history is still being
recorded. Things are still being discovered and found from the earliest of days in these foreign
communities. From the few things that we know from their past we have developed ideas and
inferred what life in Ancient Greecemight have been like. In Ancient Greecepeople lived in small
farming villages. Small towns began to evolve and developed a community meeting place. They
made governments and organized their citizens according to set laws. And every one of these
became what was known as city states and would be guarded by a certain god or goddess.

Malcolm x, heavily influenced by Marcus Garvey, believed in separatism; the idea that blacks
should live separate from whites in the United States of America. Marcus Garvey, a black
nationalist had strong beliefs on creating an isolated African society. The back to Africa

Segregation was Negro community because it was made by the outside and controlled by

Consequences Of The Mark Of The Beast By Rudyard Kipling
Consequences
Rudyard Kipling was a very well known British writer. Born on December 30th, 1865 in Bombay,
India and died on January 18th, 1936 in London, England. He wrote short stories, novels, and
poems throughout his lifetime, some famous and some not. He won Nobel Prize in Literature in
1907. The short story, The Mark of the Beast, written by Rudyard Kipling uses conflict through the
characters to prove all choices have consequences.
Kipling s parents were John and Alice Kipling. Mr. Kipling was an artist as well as a teacher of
architectural sculpting. At age five, ... his parents sent him and his sister [Trix] to England, partly
to avoid health problems, but also so they could begin their schooling ( Rudyard Kipling ,

States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted

Fear Of Spiders Research Paper
Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at
least a touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with
the condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you
normal. Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any
actual harm. They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow
spider is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more
often but still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if
they are guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces
sharp pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can
become severe and spread to other parts of the body and be accompanies by tremors and weakness.

Hitler Was The Leader Of The Great Germany
Hitler was the leader of the great Germany in the beginning of the 20th century. Hitler did a lot of
things and he is mainly remembered for his atrocious actions toward the Jewish. One of the few
things that he was responsible for, and is not much talked about today, is the Degenerate Art
Exhibition. The Degenerate Art Exhibition displayed specific types of artwork, and I believe that
the Still life of Aubergines would have been part of the exhibition for numerous reasons.
As, Barron states, Hitler and his followers, the National socialists, believed in the superiority of the
blond, blue eyed Nordic Hero (4). The people with those characteristics belongs to the Aryan race.
According to Barron, the beliefs and ideas that the Nazis were promoting were not something
new (4). Barron claims that before even Hitler came to power, Germans such ideas (4). First,
Barron suggest that the formation the German empire gave to Germans, a strong sense of
nationalism that manifested itself quite often as a belief in the natural superiority of the Aryan
people (4). According to Barron Germans were highly influenced at that time, by Darwin s book
The Descent of Man and his theory of evolution (4). The main reason why the book had such a
huge impact on Germans mindsets was, as Barron explains, The year 1871 marked both the
emergence of the German empire and the publication of Charles Darwin s The descent of man, a
book later used to justify German racism (4). Then Barron adds that,

Since the dawn of time, different societies have worshiped gods, believing in their power and

with good weather conditions for growing crops. People needed explanations for different natural
phenomena, such as rain, drought, lightning, thunder and earthquake. So, ancient people believed

Romans call these twelve main gods and goddesses as follows: Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Mars, Feb,
Mercury, Volcano, Juno, Minerva, Venus, Diana, and Bacchus. They are the same gods and

Even though the Roman religion is based on the Greek religion, there are number of differences
between gods of these societies. Romans have not just adopted their religion from Greeks. They
have also changed their religion according to their culture. So, if you read about Rome and
Greek gods and goddesses, you will see differences in their names. Romans gave their gods
names that are different from names of Greek gods. Thus, there are only few Greek and Roman
gods and goddesses that have similar names. Usually Roman gods and goddesses have names of
planets of the sun system, such as Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune and Mars. In contrast, Greek gods and
goddesses have their own names, such as Zeus, Hermes, Ares and Hera. For example, the goddess
of love is Venus in Roman mythology and Aphrodite in Greek mythology. Romans call the god of

of gods and goddesses. Gods and goddesses usually have characters similar to people that believe

The advantages of using the microcontroller is the reduction of the cost and also the use of extra
hardware such as the use of timer RAM and ROM can be avoided. This technology is very fast so
controlling of multiple parameters is possible; also the parameters are field programmable by the

these systems are quite reliable and cheaper, it has certain disadvantages. The electro mechanical

Food And The City Summary
With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is
becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil
quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers.
However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban
farming and mass organic foodproduction. Food and the City by Jennifer Cockrall King and Lentil

The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to
London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their
local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms
started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became
possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large
quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are
focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial
farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores
to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The
sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came
to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery
stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and
make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered
ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and
obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed
foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found
ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered
healthy. With all of the additives, who knows what the food actually is and the harm it could do to

George Orwell s Indictment Of Totalitarianism
No one man should have all that power/The clocks ticking, I just count the hours/Stop tripping, I m
tripping off the power/Till then, fuck that, the world s ours.
To someone who prefers Orwellian literature over contemporary rap, these lyrics could be
interpreted as a brief crude summary of Animal Farm s final five chapters. In taking a second
glance at this verse, Kanye West also gives us an insight into how George Orwellviewed
Totalitarianism. Orwell s Animal Farm, in alluding to Communist Russia, characterizes
Totalitarianism as a political system that stems from exclusivity, blurs the lines between ideologies,
and serves to the detriment of all despite being led by a powerful minority, who at the least, should
be pleased with the fruit of their efforts. This is Orwell s indictment of Totalitarianism, and
throughout this essay we will scale through its causes, as well as the adverse and ultimate effects of
its existence.
Orwell s primary indictment of Totalitarianism stems from an analysis as to why it surfaces in the

thought to rest mostly because of how idiotic it makes people sound. If the Yellowstone magma
chamber was not active, which is what makes it a supervolcano, explain to me why there are so
many hydrological features in Yellowstone. Explain to me why and how geysers work. The
magma chamber has been moving since it first developed. It started out in the south eastern
corner of Oregon and has been moving north east for the last 16.1 million years to where it is
today in Wyoming. This magma chamber is the reason Yellowstone National Park is one of the
world s most interesting places to visit. It is about one and a half miles under the crust and heats
up big aquifers underground. If you have ever watched water boil, what happens when the water
heats up? It starts to rise. So imagine that you have a funnel big enough to cover and

Humanity In Ender s Game
Humanity is remarkable. We function as a unit, working with one another towards a certain
goal. And yet while we work under one another, we are all free to do what we want to do. At
least, that is what society wants you to believe. In the book Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card,
General Graff states Human beings are free except when humanity needs them... Individual
human beings are all tools that the others use to help us all survive (Card 35). Those words may
as well have been spoken through a wise man s chapped lips prophesizing from whatever gods
or god we worship. In context, Graff said these words to justify using Ender as a tool necessary
for survival. Human beings are tools used by humanity and are expected to cede some form of
their individual freedom for the sake of society s survival. The philosophy behind Graff s
statement upholds the Theory of the Social Contract. Dissected by the philosopher John Rawls, the
social contract is the belief that individuals in a society must eschew their individual liberties in
order for the state to provide social benefits such as security. For example, the right to life in the

Using one person for the sake of a whole species overwhelmingly overrules any other approach,
long term, and short term. From a pragmatic point of view, the decision the International Fleet
made had close to zero negative outcomes. Even though Ender did suffer bitter psychological
impacts, nothing thrown at him threatened to take his life. As a matter of fact, the post traumatic
effects lead him to discover his raison d Г©tre, and build an empathetic character from his first
hand experiences with bullying, isolation, and manipulation. Not only did Ender go on to govern a
new settlement after the war, he became the founder of a prominent religion and set off to find the
buggers a new home. Ender was a tool used by the IF. Nonetheless, he was a tool that found a

Crime Victims Rights Act
Crime Victims Rights Act
According to the United States Department of Justice (2014), a crime victim has the following
rights: (1) the right to be reasonably protected from the accused, (2) the right to reasonable,
accurate, and timely notice of any public court proceeding, or ay parole proceeding, involving the
crime or of any release or escape of the accused, (3) the right not to be excluded from any such
public court proceeding, unless the court, after receiving clear and convincing evidence,
determines that testimony by the victim would be materially altered if the victim heard other
testimony at that proceeding, (4) the right to be reasonably heard at any public proceeding in the
district court involving release, plea, sentencing, or any parole proceeding, (5) the reasonable right
to confer with the attorney for the Government in the case, (6) the right to full and timely
restitution as provided in law, (7) the right to proceedings free from unreasonable delay and (8) the
right to be treated with fairness and with respect for the victim s dignity and privacy.
The Crime Victims Rights Act has had an incredible impact on the Justice Department and one at
a time, on victims of federal crime. Ever since the CVRA s passage, there has been a dramatic
change in the role that the victims play within federal criminal cases. Victims are now participating
in cases in larger numbers than they did before by, exercising their right to be heard, receiving

Edith Grotberg Theory Of Resilience
The American Psychological Association (APA) defines resilience as the ability to adapt well to
adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or even significant sources of stress (APA 2011). According to
Edith Grotberg, a developmental psychologist, Resilience is important because it is the human
capacity to face, overcome and be strengthened by or even transformed by the adversities of life
(1995). Resilienceis the ability to remain positive in the face of adversity, which is not the same as
not having distress or denying it (Music, 2011). Developing this capacity relies on protective
factors within individuals as well as in the family and community. Research has emphasized the
importance of early childhood as a time for promoting resilience... Show more content on

Executive summary
Diva shoes is an international shoes company that is experiencing rapid growth. Due to this rapid
growth, the company never established a robust hedging strategy to protect itself against
fluctuations of the multiple currencies it engages with.
This situation became more severe in Japan. The company s growth in Japan exceeded all
expectations, and unlike other countries in which the company conducted business (Italy for
example) the company had almost no expenses there, and had to convert all the Yens it generated
from selling its merchandise to dollars.
In the last few years, the Yen appreciated against the dollars, making the company s lack of hedging
strategy have little to no impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Again, I used the SG amp;A expenses as a percent of the revenue for 1994, then used the same
ratio for 1995. I m aware that this is not a great projection, as it ignores economies of scale and
efficiency improvements as the company grows, but for the purposes of this projection, it s the
best I can do. The calculation is shown in the excel spreadsheet. e. I estimated the Yen/Dollar
exchange rate to be 90. It is a bit higher than the current spot rate, but follows the trend according
to exhibit 1. Exhibit 1 shows an appreciation to the Yen, which slows down to a crawl near the
beginning of 1995. Based on the case I believe it is safe to assume a minor depreciation to the Yen
for Sep 1995.
Based on the assumptions above I project revenues for 1995 to be $93,939,025.90
4. Similar to question 3, this question require me to make several assumptions. I ve used the exact
same assumptions as the ones made in question 3.
Using these assumptions, I project net income to be $8,874,315.89. This means that the EPS for
1995 is $0.74 which reflects a 20.71% growth year over year.
The full calculation and income statement for 1995 is shown in the attached spreadsheet. 5. The
statement is accurate. If Diva Shoes hedges with either an option or a forward contract that locks
the exchange rate of the Yen to 92 Yen/Dollar the EPS growth will still be above 15%. Full
calculation can be shown in the attached spreadsheet.

Historical And Textual Data Of The Mesopotamian Religion
The Mesopotamian religion has not a large amount of information uncovered. There are both
archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian
civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with
buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image
of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but
the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a
ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers,
descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always
associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest
attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for
assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule,
that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact
with the divine. The discovered mythological literature is difficult for present day readers to
understand and the extent to which such myths reflect early religious beliefs is unknown. In its
beginning, Mesopotamian religionexpressed harmony between humanity and the natural powers on
which it depended on survival. The Sumerians have

Describe The Relationship Between Termites And Dermatobia...
1. A phoretic relationship is when two different species, who benefit from one another, travel
together throughout their relationship. An example of phoresis is the species of fly, Dermatobia
hominis. The fly attaches the larvae to another insect such as a mosquito and when the mosquito
travels and feeds on an animal or human, the eggs hatch and the larvae burrows itself into it s skin.
2. Mutualism is when both parties of the relationship benefit from the association. Obligatory
mutualism is when both species depend on one another in the relationship because otherwise they
would not be able to survive alone.
3. The obligatory relationship between termites and gut protozoa is very important. Termites bodies
do not produce the necessary enzymes that are essential in digesting the cellulose in wood. The
protozoa that live inside the gut of the termite, however, secrete the same enzyme that is ... Show

Protozoa can reproduce both sexually and asexually and can go back and forth between the two
depending on its environment. With asexual reproduction protozoa reproduce by binary fission.
Some use multiple fission, also known as mergony or shizogony. The resulting daughter cells are
called merozoites. Another type of multiple fission called sporogony where meiosis occurs before
mitosis.
16. When the union of whole cell gametes are similar they are called isogametes. When they differ
they are called anisogametes.
17. Two individual ciliates unite and fuse their pellicles at the point of contact. The macronucleus in
each ciliate disintegrate and then the micronuclei undergo meiosis to produce four haploid
pronuclei and two of four of these pronuclei degenerate. The migratory pronucleus from each
individual ciliate moves into the other to fuse with the stationary pronucleus and restores the
diploid status. The cells then separate and undergo nuclear division to produce macronuclei. The
resulting cells are called exconjugates and are now ready to undergo sexual

Pulp Fiction Analysis
Tarantino s Depiction of Violence
Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films.
Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films,
Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also
look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper
will determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film.
Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as
the film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood
or even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot
clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He
employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline
shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the
heart. In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles
Vincent s body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body
is shown covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the
transition in Pulp Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence.
From now on in the film,

The History of Algebra
The History of Algebra The history of algebra has been around for several decades, this method of
mathematics has been used during the beginning of time. The development of algebraic notation
progressed through out three stages: the rhetorical stage, the syncopated stage, and the symbolic
stage with which we are use to using in our daily usage of algebra. In ancient civilization math was
used to help leaders to strategically form how their troops should be lined up for battle and help
decide how to attack their enemies. Algebra was used in the many of these civilizations: Egypt,
Babylon, Greece, India, Europe, and most parts of the Middle East. In Egypt, the Egyptians used
mathematics which included Algebra to solve equivalent to a... Show more content on

They also were able to prove that the quadratic equations have two roots, and included the negative
as irrational roots. The Hindus used the astrology and astronomy to help determine directions in
which they should live their lives as if it was an almanac. The Hindus used this method of algebraic
equations to determine directions, farming, and behavior among their peers.
The Arabs in the Middle East helped improve the Hindus number symbols and was able to adopted
the same method of algebraic reasoning as the Greeks they reject the negative solutions that the
Hindus were using and would solve the quadratic equations by recognizing two solutions, possibly
irrational. The algebra of the Arabs in the Middle East was entirely rhetorical and like the Hindus,
the Arabs worked freely with irrationals. The Arabs used and improved the Hindus number symbols
and the idea of positional notation. These numerals (the Hindu Arabic system of numeration) which
are used throughout the world today, however the Arabs contribution to the methods that are used
in algebra is the solution of cubic equations by geometric methods involving the intersection of
conics. In the 16th century of the European nations there were great theories about algebra, they
rejected the method that negative numbers could be used in an algebraic equation and many of the
mathematicians would quickly accepted zero as a number but

Taking a Look at Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is something the Western society is very familiar with. Billions of dollars are
spent every year on these types of procedures The oldest type of plastic surgery is reconstructive,
it developed out of need to treat wounded soldiers during wartimes and help them recover after.
This type of plastic surgeryis used to rebuild severely fractured bones, skin grafting, and
implanting prosthetics. Plastic surgery was then introduced to treat birth defects like clef lip, and
remove skin blemishes. This was the start of cosmetic plastic surgery, from the almost necessary
correction of cleft lip for children to nose jobs, face lifts, and changing size of breasts on adults.

An elder man balding may receive hair transplants to his scalp to look younger and be more
competitive in the business. Separating oneself at the workplace with plastic surgery can
almost seem necessary, A women prison officer had cosmetic dentistry because she said she
couldn t look like someone s granny if she was to keep her status with the prisoners (Jackson 3).
A true need for this type of plastic surgery is repairing clef lips for children so they can properly
eat and speak throughout their lives without being or appearing different from other children.
After surgery patients should consider follow up psychotherapy or counseling after plastic or
reconstructive surgery because of the drastic change of their bodies can affect their social
relationships. Typically children with birth defects have been the most affected in social and
schooling relationships, as well as older patients with other deformities or disfigurement (Fey 3).
There has been proof of psychological benefits from plastic surgery, Dr. Eric Finzi, proposed
that having botox can actually combat depression...if we can t physically frown, we don t feel
sad (Jackson 2). Dr. Patrick Bowler proves this in his study, women who had botox were indeed
measurably less negative than their non botoxed counterparts (Jackson 2). Paying money to fix a

Family Is The Fundamental Unit Of Society And Today It Is...
According to Dr. Alina Costin, family is the fundamental unit of society and today it is used with a
wide variety of meanings (2014). In 2007, single parent families make up thirty two percent of the
population (Benokraitis, 2012). As more adult remain single into their thirties and divorce rates are
higher, the number of children living in single parent families has increased (Benokraitis, 2012).
The number of never married people has gone up form four percent in 1960 to forty three percent in
2010 (Benokraitis, 2012). Women also run an over whelming eighty seven percent of single parent

Single father families make up a small proportion of all single parent families (Coles, 2015).
Children living in these families often exhibit more behavior and academic problems than children
who live with single mother families (Pong, Dronkers, and Hampden Thomas,2015). Despite these
findings, the number of single father households has increased about nine fold since 1960, from
less than 300,000 to more than 2.6 million in 2011(Coles, 2015). Women will more likely attend to
primary and daily parenting tasks, such as feeding, dressing, and emotional nurturance of children,
whereas men will attend to play activities and financial provision (Coles, 2015). Another study also
found that single mothers and fathers displayed similar rates of participation, with single mothers
less involved than married mothers and single fathers more involved than married fathers (Nord et
al., 1997). According to Coles, living in a single mother family increases the risk for delinquency
(2015). This is likely due not to the mothers lack of parenting ability but rather the need to support
their family financially (Rodgers and Rose, 2001) The most popular explanation centers on a
resource deprivation argument single mothers have fewer resources (e.g., income, time, energy),
thus leading to diminished social control and socialization (Coles, 2015). Single fathers tend to be
better off in terms of income and social support than single mothers (Coles, 2015). They

  • 2. A Comparison Of Hills Like White Elephants And Happy Endings Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway and Happy Endings by Margaret Atwood share a gender oriented theme. They both show women struggling to attain equality against their male partners. This theme is depicted through the use of symbolism, point of view and plot conflict. Symbolically, Hills like White Elephants represents a choice. It is a life choice that can t be undone once it is made. This choice is about whether or not Jig, the female character of the story, should get an abortion. It supports the theme because if Jig chooses to keep the baby she is defying the wishes of her male partner, who is simply referred to as the man, and taking a stand for women by doing so. However it is not entirely clear what choice she makes at the end of the story. Her only words being, I feel fine...There s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine (216). The interpretation some people take for this is that she decided to keep the baby and chose to defy male domination. In Happy Endings the main symbols are how the relationships end be it cheating, age, or health complications. Cheating is symbolic of the relationship being dominated by only one person involved in it. Age is symbolic of both partners sharing or being equal in the relationship. Lastly health complications are a way of saying that fate, be it good or bad, can be involved, or that not everything works out according to plan. These are all related to the idea that by placing a dominant person in the relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Altruism In Night By Eliezer Wiesel In Night, altruism is what separates man from a beast of the concentration camp. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Eliezer Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, Eliezer s sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive. Not yet exposed to the horrors of a concentration camp, Eliezer enters Birkenau with his innate compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, he witnesses the burning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Eliezer is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice his own well being to help others that he entered the camp with. Although a suggestion of worry and compassion remains in Eliezer s tone, these senses are inadequate for Eliezer to forgo his own safety and well being. In this, Eliezer has become selfish. He has begun to lose his altruism. However, even in the face of the ever present self interest seen in other prisoners of the camp, Eliezer fails to lose this important side of himself completely. Nonetheless, Eliezer does not completely lose his sense of altruism, especially concerning his father. In the time before Eliezer s father s death, Eliezer attempts to prolong his father s life at the cost of his own chances of survival. In willingly surrendering his own rations for his father s welfare, Eliezer indicates that altruism is still present in him. However, others around Eliezer do not believe in this concept of altruism; instead, they think Eliezer should not believe in the obligation to help his father simply because of familial bonds, Eliezer should focus on his own survival (Wiesel 111). Regardless of this pressure, Eliezer continues to sacrifice his own well being by offering his rations. Why? For Eliezer, his father is a projection of his old faith in ... • 4. Thesis For The Lottery Being stoned to death by 300 of your friends and family is possibly the worst way anyone would ever want to be killed. In the short story The Lottery written by an author Shirley Jackson, she mentions about a small village consisting of 300 residents who most reluctantly participate in an annual lottery drawing. I know, who in their right mind would hesitate to be a part of an event that gives you a possibility of winning a prize, which makes you wonder what the prize is. At the end of the story the protagonist, Mrs. Hutchinson, who also happens to be the winner of the lotteryis stoned to death. I argue that Jackson wrote this story to inform us how living in a small community isn t always a great thing because in a small population people start gossiping about one another, which can lead to issues and could turn into hatred. I believe that winning is not always a good thing because it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can say that there are certain demons that inhabit the closest people in your life, such as betrayal and jealousy to protect themselves. To shed more light on this, in the short story The Lottery stated that, And someone gave little Davy Hutchinson a few pebbles and closes in on her (Jackson). As I read this section of the story, I strongly believe that money tends to destroy the strong bonds one has with their own family members. Furthermore, after seeing a movie clip of this story, I seen Davy Hutchinson and Mr. Hutchinson moving away from Mrs. Hutchinson in a clam way, they had no expression in their face that made them look hurt after what was going to happen to Mrs. Hutchison (Jackson, Rando). I think that Jackson was showing us that your own family turns against you and that cruel things would continue to happen in life. In addition, Jackson is trying to say that winning is not always a positive thing or it s not guaranteed a happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to intrigue your readers, you must first know who you are trying to connect with and how. Halasek talks about the six different types of audiences that could possibly be the focus of any paper . The six types of audiences are: public, projected, textual, previous, immediate, and evaluative. A public audience is there to help students get their ideas out into the public to help express their message. Projected audience gives the writer a direction to head in when writing a paper. This allows them to conduct their content and put it in order so that it best reaches their targeted audience. This allows the writer to get constructive feedback on the direction he is heading with his work. Textual audience is the complex part of writing, making sure that it all flows together seemingly. Previous audience, is where they write towards an audience they already know, in hopes to figure out the mistakes towards the new audience. Lastly, evaluative audience, is the final piece of the puzzle before you are prepared to turn in the paper or have someone take a look at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Copper Reaction Lab Report AP Chemistry 12/13/11 Round Trip Copper Reactions Lab The purpose of this lab was to evaluate our skills of decanting a supernatant liquid without losing the solid and successful completion of a series of reactions. This was done through five chemical reactions involving copper. In this lab, elemental copper was put through five different chemical reactions in order to convert it into different compounds. By the end of the fifth reaction, the copper was back to its elemental state. In the first reaction, 0.95 g of pure copper was reacted with 4.0 mL of concentrated nitric acid under the fume hood. The solution was swirled until all of the copper had dissolved. The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows: Cu (s) + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The black precipitate was allowed to settle and then the supernatant, the clear liquid that lies above a precipitate, was decanted, or poured carefully off. Then, 200 mL of hot distilled water was added and the precipitate was allowed to settle to repeat the decanting process again. In the fourth reaction, 15 mL of 6.0 M sulfuric acid was added to the copper (II) oxide while stirring. The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows: CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) Г CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g) When the sulfuric acid was added to copper (II) oxide, the solution turned blue. This was due to the formation of aqueous copper (II) sulfate, which produced the copper ions to change the color of the solution. In the fifth reaction, 2.29 g of zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution under the fume hood. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as followed: Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) Г ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s) When the zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, the solution started to bubble. As the solution was stirred, it turned a cloudy blue. Small flecks of a brown solid were visible. As the solution became colorless, the brown solid settled to the bottom of the beaker. The solid formed was copper in its elemental state. The color faded from the solution as the copper ions slowly formed into solid copper. The copper was poured into a funnel with filter paper and washed three times with 25 mL ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Application Of Flexible All Graphite Paper Based Field... Flexible All Graphite Paper based Field Effect Transistor for motion detection using strain sensing Srinivasulu Kanaparthi, Sushmee Badhulika* Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Hyderabad, 502285, India. *Corresponding author: E mail: sbadh@iith.ac.in; Telephone: 040 23018443; Fax: 04023016032 Abstract Here we report the fabrication of a flexible all carbon field effect transistor (FET) using a low cost, recyclable and biodegradable cellulose paper as both substrate as well as dielectric and pencil graphite as source, drain, channel and gate without using any other expensive, toxic or non biodegradable materials. The electron and hole mobility s of FET are observed to be 180 and 200 cm2v 1s 1 respectively which are comparable to the recently reported values of paper FET with polymer dielectric and cellulose composite dielectrics. The FET was utilized as a strain sensor which shows good sensitivity for low strains of both tensile and compressive type. The mobility of the FET increases with increase in compressive strain and decreases with increase in tensile strain. The sensitivity of the FET sensor increases with the increase in the gate voltage. HERE YOU CAN MAKE A COMMENT ON HOW THIS STRAIN SENSOR IS BETTER THAN SILICON STRAIN SENSORS IN PERFORMANCE. Further we investigated the performance of the sensor by integrating it with hand gloves to detect human motion. The results obtained indicate that the sensor can be utilized ... • 8. Biblical Symbols Of The Bible Throughout the Gospels, there are various symbols which have meanings that are harder to grasp from one reading alone. Many symbols in the Bible need deeper analyses and background knowledge to be able to fully understand and comprehend. Throughout the centuries, there have been countless attempts to decode and explain such symbols, some of which have been made by Origen of Alexandria. Origen proposed a threefold structure for the meanings of Scripture, and I will be using this structure to explain a passage found in the Bibleto its greatest potential. Afterwards, I will be analyzing the symbol of kingdom using a technique that Smith has taught us. One meaning of Scripture, according to Origen, is the literal interpretation. This involves the body, narrative, and historical account of the meaning. One of the passages I will be analyzing is Mark 12:1 12, otherwise known as the Parable of the Tenants. In this passage, Jesustells the chief priests, teachers of the law, and the elders a story of a man who planted a vineyard. To take this reading literally, you would assume it was just a story of this man, who sent servants to collect fruit from the vineyard and had them killed off or beaten, one by one. Quoted from Mark, At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty handed. Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Egalitarianism In Australia Introduction Australian society is often defined as egalitarian since the government equally accepts the diversity of population regardless of their personal backgrounds, socioeconomic status, health condition and political opinions. The society is supposed to attach importance to the fair civil liberties, protect local industries and provide every resident with welfare support, the opportunity of education and employment. However, after world economy crisis brought great global change in the 1980s, Australian political policy dramatically changed into profitability toward this competitive global economy. After the federation in 1901, this nation practiced protectionism for national industrial development such as iron, steel, woolen goods, and motors. The regime set more than 60 percent tariff wall for import and export to secure local income and employments in growing population. Consequently the allocation of importation in Australia conserved more than 80 percent for the local markets, but also maintained generous working conditions for employers and employee (Abbott, 1997). The regime also focused on the wage fairness and providing welfare benefits based on the needs of families and the individuals to maintain their standard living (Anderson, 1938). The government practiced strong encouragement and created an environment for working and middle class population to participate in universities with financial support between the 1940s and the 1990s. Naturally, the university system and the governmental policy resulted in an increase rate of university students and the low level of employment, which was around three percent in 1940 1970 (Gale Parker, 2013; Loundes, 1997). There were supports for persons who have chronicle diseases and the government provided state government housing for population who had financial difficulties. These families dislike their kin and often resent them. In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, by Tennessee Williams, the Politt family does not function as a normal family. Brick, Maggie, and Big Daddy are three members of the family that have the most problems that affect the whole family. Brick, Maggie s alcoholic husband, is an uncaring man who has no good feelings toward his wife. Maggie has a grudge Mae because she has many children with Gooper. Maggie feels insecure about having children, so she mocks Mae and her offspring to reassure herself and make her self feel better. Margaret has a dreadful relationship with Brick and also with Mae and her kids. Big Daddy, an old man with cancer, plays favorites with members of his family and dislikes his wife. For example, when Big Daddy is talking with Brick, and finds Mae at the door, Big Daddy says, I don t want you, I want some privacy here... with my son Brick (62). • 12. Essay About My Dream Let me first start off by asking you a question, do you have a dream you are satisfied with? Do you think your dream is good enough to make/keep you happy for the rest of your life in the future? Now remember those questions and keep your answer in mind as you read this. At the very end, did your answer change or stay the same? We shall see. We all have dreams whether it s the one you get while sleeping, daydreaming in class, or the dream you are working towards for. The main questions many ask today is what is my dream (like a future career) or how will I make my dream come true? These are the questions I find asking myself from a day to day basis. Another quote I hear pretty often is Have Outstanding Passion Every Day! CollegeTrack. We strive with outstanding passion in whatever we do, whether is completing a homework assignment, doing a sport, club activities, and just in life in general. Having this passion gives you something to look forward to every day instead of mindlessly getting up to go to school or work to do the same generic tasks everyday. Everyday is a new day, which means there are new challenges, by having a passion it gives you the motivation, the excitement to conquer new challenges. Think of it as Candy Crush, you worked on a single level for days and you finally passed that level, the sense of accomplishment encourages you to pass the next level and so forth. The kind of people with the most amount of passion are CEO and entrepreneurs because they get to enjoy their creations in their business every day, solve a new problem in their business or create another branch of their franchise. For example, Bart Kwan and Joe Jo of JustKiddingFilms, who are very passionate about film and comedy, combined their two interests and created a YouTube franchise where they dedicate themselves to making comedic videos. • 13. U2-Sweetest Thing U2 Sweetest Thing I have chosen this song for the tone it brings to this soundtrack. The beginning of The Count of Monte Cristo is vividly different from the rest, as it introduces a perfect character, who has the greatest of girls to soon marry, and has been promoted to captain of his ship. I feel that this song has the same tone to it, while hinting at a change of fortune soon in the future by repeating I m losing you , which mirrors the effect that Danglars has at this point, of foreshadowing that things will not stay this way for Dantes. Midge Ure The Man Who Sold The World These lyrics connect to the relationship between Dantes and Villefort, beginning from their first meeting in Villefort s office. The song portrays Villefort as he is in the book, feigning to be Dante s friend, when he had only himself in mind. (Lines 4,13). Dante s surprise during his conversation with Villefort is also reflected in line five. The bridge between their first meeting and their last is in lines fourteen to twenty, which describe his journey from the Chateau d if, where Edmond Dantes died, and the Count of Monte Cristo roamed for years and years. His stare is also described as gazeless, just as the Count seems to see the world around him. The second and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Best example recently would be the internet stocks from 1996 through 2002 where the price of the internet stock roses over its fair value until the market forces the price back to its original level (Russell J. Fuller 1995). The above argument can fall into the theory of representativeness and conservatism. The principle of representativeness implies overweighting the results of small sample. Financial economists have argued that representativeness leads to overreaction in stock returns (Eugene Fama F1998). In the case of internet companies, great revenue growth for a short time in the late 1990s, causing many to believe that this growth would continue indefinitely. Stock prices rose (too much) at this point. When, at last, investors realized that this growth could not be sustained, prices plummeted. On the other hand, the theory of conservatism states that individuals adjust their beliefs too slowly to new information. A market composed of this type of investor would likely lead to stock prices that under react in the presence of new information. This is shown in the example of earning surprises . It could be said that both representativeness and conservatism have opposite implications for stock prices. Fama reviewed the academic studies on anomalies, finding that about half of them show overreaction and about half show under reaction. The Unkonwn Whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 The unknown whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 that disappeared on March 8, 2014, has left the families of the over 200 passengers aboard heartbroken and devastated. Thus far, rescue units have failed to locate the massive Boeing 777 commercial jet, or any of the 227 passengers and 12 flight crew on it. This catastrophic event happened, and is failing to be solved, because of the lack of necessary aircraft tracking, the struggle of knowing where to look, and what faith to lean on and aircraft equipment failure. Black boxes are modern electronic devices used now a days in some vehicles you see on the roads and also aircrafts such as the Boeing 777 used for flight MH370. The advantages of using the microcontroller is the reduction of the cost and also the use of extra hardware such as the use of timer RAM and ROM can be avoided. This technology is very fast so controlling of multiple parameters is possible; also the parameters are field programmable by the user. The electrical engineering and its applications are the oldest streams of Engineering. Though these systems are quite reliable and cheaper, it has certain disadvantages. The electro mechanical protection relays are too bulky and needs regular maintenance. The multifunctional is out of question. Recently, the technical revolution made embedded technology cheaper, so that it can be applied to all the fields. 2. Objective of the project The Automatic Power factor Correction device is a very useful device for improving efficient transmission of active power. If the consumer connect inductive load, then the power factor lags, when the power factor goes below 0.97(lag) then the Electric supply company charge penalty to the consumer. So it is essential to maintain the Power factor within a limit. Automatic Power factor correction device reads the power factor from voltage and current, calculating the compensation requirement switch on different capacitor banks. On the other hand, the lecturer cast doubt on this theory by stating that the weapons used in the Neolithic period showed signs of wear; they are often found cracked and broken, but the carved stone balls are well preserved. Food And The City Summary With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers. However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban farming and mass organic foodproduction. One solution to the unsustainable industrial agriculturesystem, urban... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered healthy. To someone who prefers Orwellian literature over contemporary rap, these lyrics could be interpreted as a brief crude summary of Animal Farm s final five chapters. In taking a second glance at this verse, Kanye West also gives us an insight into how George Orwellviewed Totalitarianism. Orwell s Animal Farm, in alluding to Communist Russia, characterizes Totalitarianism as a political system that stems from exclusivity, blurs the lines between ideologies, and serves to the detriment of all despite being led by a powerful minority, who at the least, should be pleased with the fruit of their efforts. This is Orwell s indictment of Totalitarianism, and throughout this essay we will scale through its causes, as well as the adverse and ultimate effects of its existence. In most of the research I have done and completed, this supervolcano has a lot of controversy behind it. One of the things I have found is, people around the world , no matter how much evidence proves them wrong, believe this supervolcano is no longer active. And yet while we work under one another, we are all free to do what we want to do. At least, that is what society wants you to believe. In the book Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card, General Graff states Human beings are free except when humanity needs them... Individual human beings are all tools that the others use to help us all survive (Card 35). Those words may as well have been spoken through a wise man s chapped lips prophesizing from whatever gods or god we worship. In context, Graff said these words to justify using Ender as a tool necessary for survival. Human beings are tools used by humanity and are expected to cede some form of their individual freedom for the sake of society s survival. The philosophy behind Graff s statement upholds the Theory of the Social Contract. Dissected by the philosopher John Rawls, the social contract is the belief that individuals in a society must eschew their individual liberties in order for the state to provide social benefits such as security. There are both archaeological and textual data that has been found on religious beliefs of the early Sumerian civilization survive. The typical temples were constructed of mud bricks and adorned with buttresses and many small cones of different colors. On the inside there was a niche for the image of the deityright in front of an offering table. The early sanctuaries were simple in their style but the later new temples contained spacious courts, which were rooms for attendant priests and a ziggurat. There were three types of textual materials that have been discovered: prayers, descriptions of the rituals conducted by priests, and mythological literature. Prayers were always associated with specific rites to be performed by the person offering the prayers or by a priest attached to the sanctuary. The prayers would consist of invocations to the gods, requests for assistance, and expressions of gratitude for past favors or for dangers averted. There was a rule, that the worshipers did not emphasize such spiritual or moral topics as death, survival, and contact with the divine. • 47. Pulp Fiction Analysis Tarantino s Depiction of Violence Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films. Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film. Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart. In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence. From now on in the film, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
