Affirmative Action Analysis
Affirmative Action: Overview A reflection on the society depicts the fact that it is composed of
individuals with varying differences aligned with gender, race, socio economic status, and
education levels. While it is true that all people should be equal irrespective of these factors, there
is a need to note that there exist a persistent discriminationof various people. Affirmative actionhas
often been poised as the most comprehensive means through which equality can be attained. While
much has been hypothesized regarding affirmative action, it is of the essence to note that it mainly
connotes to actions and policies that are intended to ensure equality for all people regardless of the
differences they exhibit (Bridges 73). Affirmative action is established with the sole intent of
assuring equal opportunities for all. From this analysis, it can be deduced that the scope of
affirmative action is to assure equality between minority and majority groups. There are various
strategies that are often utilized to enhance the affirmative action.... Show more content on

Based on a personal thought, affirmative action would be more beneficial if it based on class and
not race. Class based affirmative action offers a comprehensive platform that assures an
enhancement in the representation of the minorities. Class based affirmative action favors
individuals from low income backgrounds, which ends up favoring the minority groups (Berry
Bonilla Silva 237). An analysis of racial minority groups points to the fact that they have lower
economic statuses. Therefore, class based affirmative action caters for low income groups who
mainly comprise of the racial minority groups. Overall, class based affirmative action is
recommendable because it caters for both racial and class based

more powerful than I thought. I had two powers that no one else has in the whole world. My first
power, which I ve decided to call Gamer allows me to see my stats like a video game. It shows me
my stats, health, energy, skill, and you know the rest. My second power, which I ve decide to call
Creator allows me to create skills and magics. Honestly, I think these powers were practically made
for a nerd and lazy person like me because it allows me to be both lazy and overpowered but I ve
never had a reason to use them. For example, let s say someone has the ability to fly and I identify
them. Identify, like any other rpg allows the user to see the stats of others. If I want to, I could also
create a ability that allows me to fly and I could make it better, worse, or the same. It all depends on
how much effort and detail I put into it. However, soon I discovered a new ability which I called

Gender Bias And Gender Inequality
The average american female only makes в…” of what the average male does. Whether it is in
school, or the workforce, gender inequality still exists and is a major problem. There is still a
huge difference in the way women get treated compared to the way men get treated. Due to the
invisible barrier that is holding back the success of women, social realities need to be redefined in
order for genderinequality to longer exist. Gender inequality refers to the unequal rights,
responsibilities and opportunities of women and men and girls and boys. There are three main
ideas that contribute to it, but there are still many others that do too. One of them is sexism,
which refers to the range of attitudes, beliefs, policies, laws, and behaviors that discriminate on
the basis of gender. A second idea that also contributes is gender roles. Gender roles are rights,
responsibilities, expectations, and relationships of men and women in a society. The third idea is
gender bias, which is the favoritism toward one gender or the other. All three have a direct
correlation with each other. Gender inequality is most common at school and in the workforce. A
lot of people seems to think men hold a higher rank in life than women do just because they think
women cannot do the same things a man can do. Just because the the anatomy of a womanand a
man are different, doesn t mean one or the other should get better treatment, but that is still a reality
women face today. Men have access to many more

Muslim Next Door Reflection
Probably my favorite book that we read in BIFL this semester was Ali Karamali s The Muslim
Next Door . Before reading this book, I had no clue what Islam was or what sort of traditions
Muslims practiced (I have done an extremely poor job of being informed with the events and
people of the world). Reading about a totally different religionthan my own gave me the
opportunity to question the religious practices that I participate in. Hajj seemed like such a silly
thing when we first started reading about the 5 pillars of Islam, but once we watched the National
Geographic video, something clicked for me. I began to realize how incredible it must feel to
be surrounded with people from all over the globe that gather together to do the same religious
based activity. Further, I began to recognize just how beneficial the Qur an was for women of
that age. Ali Karamali states that, if Islam so greatly raised the status of women fourteen
centuries ago, when women s rights were inconceivable and implementation of them was a
Herculean task, then the message of Islam itself must be feminist (123). Here I am, a privileged,
intelligent, white female trying to raise the bar for women all over the world like I was the first
one to think of that. It s incredible to think that religious texts were trying to do this work at a time
it was unheard of!
Reading about Islam also gave me a chance to reflect on those things within the Christian tradition
that I hold dear. I believe in God, and most

Alexander Pope and Women Essay example
Alexander Pope may have been the adversary of female behavior the extent of this has long been
in question. The writer s satirical style towards the women of his era is evidence of his opinions.
However, there are noticeable facts that generate a swaying effect on Pope s views and the
meaning of The Rape of the Lock. These details consist of the author s personal life and symbolism
contained in his mock epic poem, including the voices of Bella and Clarissa, which is an indication
that he may not have had the hardened heart towards women that everyone assumed he had. While
any evaluation on Alexander Popes personal opinion will conclude with a questioning of who he
truly was behind his literary persona, a thorough research provides solid... Show more content on

Beauty was of utmost importance and to climb any social ladder, a pleasing outward appearance
was to be achieved.
The Rape of the Lock does an excellent job of portraying this thoughtlessness that the women had
during the Eighteenth Century. In the mock poem a woman who has her hair cut off and stolen
appears to be an action that expresses hilarious sarcastic wit. However this storyline was not just
humorous but has a sad underlying tone owing to the fact that a woman in the Eighteenth
Century would have taken these circumstances to a serious degree. Alexander Pope expressed
his opinion of women in a frank and aggressive manner. As Elizabeth King put it in her notes
about The Rape of the Lock, it styled woman a goddess and regarded her as little better than a doll
(77), this clarifies Pope s respect of women during his time.
The prime example of Pope s opinion is written through his character Belinda, in The Rape of the
Lock. In the poem, Belinda is the epitome of loveliness and femininity. The qualities she
possesses are not of intellect or wholesome attitude, but the beauty she was born with overpowers
any need for intelligence. Due to this, a Sylph named Ariel who was once a woman of similar
beauty and class as Belinda protects her, along with the nymphs who were once too, of pleasing
disposition in their human life. Throughout the story they keep watch over her and Ariel guards her
heart from being overtaken by

Why Is Nina Dobrev A Good Role Model
Everyone has a different role model for their own different reasons. Sometimes it s just because of
what they do and their films, and other times it s because of their great personality and loving
nature. Overall, everyone has a specific person they look up to whether it s a celebrity or their
mother. Nina Dobrev, one of many actresses, stands out amongst the crowd for me. She is kind
and compassionate and always modest and humble. Through hard work, patience, and persistence,
Nina Dobrev has become a successful actress as well as an amazing role model. Nina Dobrev s
childhood held many amazing memories for her. Born on January 9, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria; her

she is teaching to supporters everyday. I ve always wanted to constantly challenge myself and
play different characters in different genres, whether it s action, drama, romantic, comedy, or a
period piece. I ll never take a part just for a paycheck or to fill time. I want to do projects that I
really enjoy (148). Instead of just doing things she doesn t really what to do, she manages to do
what she lives and she does it so well it inspires young minds to follow her lead, to work for the
things they want. Through hard work and persistence, Nina Dobrev has become a successful
actress and inspiring role model. Her childhood which led to her acting shows young girls to
work for what they want. All her films and television shows are the outcome of that persistence
and hard work. Nina Dobrev may have what she wants, a great career that she loves with great
friends she loves, but she never stops working and never stops supporting other people and friends.

The History Of Modern Corporate Collection
In the 1988, one year after Black Monday when Don Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 23
percent in a single day, Art Auction the international art market journal published its annual
edition with the troubling headline: Is Corporate Collecting Dead? . Almost 20 years later, the
financial crisis made hundreds of bankers lose their jobs, and the image of people moving out
their offices can still be recalled even today, and the same question aroused again. The same
questions may appear again and again in the future, but as an essential part of world of art
collecting, corporate collecting won t die in the eyes of most people in the field.
The brief history of modern corporate collection
It is hard to chase back to the origin of the art patronage, since it is nearly as old as art itself, but
the shift from a model dating from the Renaissance, in which leaders of industry used the fruits
of their labor to purchase or commission superlative art either for their private residences or for
the benefit of the public (or of God and the Church), is surprisingly recent. So it s essential to
isolate modern corporate collecting from other great but older tradition such as hanging decorative
pieces and portraits of founders and other core members to embellish a boardroom or showcase the
firm s position or reputation.
Modern corporate collecting began in nineteenth century in the United States as a movement to
preserve the records, memorabilia, and products of a company.

Working at The Bindery Essay
Working at The Bindery
I have a dream. I have a dream about getting a doctorate degree in music. Well, to get that far, I

your belongings at the end of the line on which you will be working, and out of people and fork
truck traffic. Grab a bundle of forms from the skid by the string or by the ends, lifting with your
legs, and cautiously throw it up on the pocket. Bundles can weigh from 25 to 50 pounds,
depending on the type of paper being used for the book. Throw as many bundles as it takes to fill
the pocket, making sure that the print on the spine of the paper is lined up correctly. This insures
that the page numbers will go in the correct order. A pocket usually holds about six or seven
bundles to make it full. The number of pages in the book being made determines the number of

Major influence on the steepness of SRATC curve at output level below point Q* is determined
by the fixed component of total cost. Then bigger/smaller fixed cost is then SRATC curve will be

An examination of the sonnet from Petrarch to Browning....
An examination of the sonnet from Petrarch to Browning.
A sonnet is a poem, which traditionally contains the subject of love.
The creator of the sonnet was a man named Francesco Petrarca who was usually referred to as
Petrarch. Petrarch wrote many of his sonnets based upon himself, and his lover, Laura. The
conventional format of a sonnet contains fourteen lines, and is segregated to illustrate two
arguments. Every sonnet takes the conventional format of fourteen lines, although the way the
arguments are split up, may be different.
For example, Petrarch and Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnet both take the format of an octave
and a sestet, whereas Shakespeare s sonnet takes the format of three quatrains and a rhyming
couplet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Petrarchan sonnet is in the form of an octave and a sestet, which explores the persona s
experience of unrequited love. In the octave,
Petrarch is searching for his lost lover, Laura. This can be proven in the first line of the sonnet, A
thousand times to make my peace I sought. The persona describes his deep love for Laura by
using descriptive and metaphorical language. He elevates Laura to a high point by using religious
imagery, while he is still below her. And offer you my heart; but little thought had your proud
spirit to look down so low. This line also tells us that the persona had offered his love to Laura, but
she rejected it; she did not return his affections.
From the fourth line and onwards, love is described as being imprisoned. Yet if another would
that heart enchain, is an example of this. He believes that Laura is not accepting his love because
she has changing dreams and hopes, which are just imaginary. She lives in fickle hopes and
dreams untrue. He is also speaking about how any other woman would have hopes and dreams
about capturing his heart because it is bound to Laura. In the seventh line of the octave,
Petrarch has mentioned about how the persona has things in common with his lover Laura. For
example, he hates the things that she hates.
Since I despise all the things that you disdain.
In the sestet of, Sonnet XXL, the subject changes from the search for love, to the journey of love.

Strategy has been perceived as a major concept in public relations starting the beginning of the
1980s. Regardless, little evidence has been brought forth to show how the term strategy, as well as

strategy is or ought to be. Public relationsis denoted as the professional maintenance of a positive
public image by a firm or popular person. Some claim that public relations is about meaning and

The goal of every organization is to survive competition and become successful in the market.
Consequently, firms have public relations departments to ensure their goals are realised. The public
relations is mostly concerned with improving interactions through improved communication. PR
achieves this by employing different perspectives such as rhetorical and system aspects. Rhetorical
theory concerns the use of human symbol, whereas the system perspective is concerned with the
relationship between the environment and organization wherein public relations helps in
coordinating the two to ensure survival. The application cannot be done without tactics to ensure
efficiency. This is where public relations and strategy come out clearly. In the case study, the
rhetoric framing theory has been applied largely. Rhetorical scholars have

Summary Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
From Child to Man: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
Ernest Hemingway was a great American writer and journalist. Hemingway used a number of
different foils to give insight into his characters and foreshadow events to come in his writings.
In Hemingway s short story The Happy Life of Francis Macomber , a number of critics argue
about what exactly he used to tell the story of Francis Macomber growing from a cowardly boy to
a courageous man. One thing we can t argue about is the fact he did such a wonderful job.
Theodore L. Gaillard, Jr. argues in his journal article, The Critical Menagerie of The Short Happy
Life of Francis Macomber , that he believes that Hemingway used an animal menagerie as a
standard against which to measure and evaluate his human actors (Gaillard 31 32). In Gaillard s
journal article. He says the foil Hemingway used in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
, are the different animals that are mentioned in his short story. Before getting to Africa, Francis
Macomber only had experience in spending money, fishing and hunting small animals (Gaillard
32). Francis is described as a rabbit hare towards the beginning of the story by himself, his wife and
Wilson, the hunter. I bolted like a rabbit Francis says in The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber (Hemingway 4). Francis uses the rabbit to describe his cowardice when running from the
lion he supposed to be hunting. More specific than this implicitly negative criticism of Macomber is

As driving into Hickory, Indiana, a tiny town, I see that every house has a basketball hoop on the
side of their barn. The little town consists of one main street. It has the local supermarket,
barbershop, hardware store and some other small stores. While driving on the main street, I noticed
that everyone notices a stranger coming into town. That is how small Hickory is. Driving into the
high school parking lot I see that the girls dominate the young men by far. Looking around I also see
that everyone is talking about the basketball game that night.
When hearing that Norman Dale was going to coach a high school basketball team, I figured it was

Then Billy interrupted and said that the only way he would play is if Coach Dale stayed. The
townspeople agreed to keep Coach Dale and now have Billy playing. The next half of their season
they won every game and everyone was happy with what Coach Dale had provided.
The love for the game and the passion for the game are what the young men have. The look in their
eyes and the emotion that was shown, tells the fans and coaches that these young men are for real
when it comes to playing. When someone has love and passion for something will let you pursue
what you need to get done. The young men seem to have this and they want to pursue their journey
to a championship.
It wasn t just the coaching that got the Hoosiers through the season and now into the playoffs. It
was the young men on the team that believed in themselves through Coach Dale. Coach Dale
loved every one of his players and insisted on them playing the way they could play. He saw the
passion in their eyes and had total confidence in their abilities. There was also the big difference
of having Billy on the team. In the beginning of the season there wasn t a leader on the team.
With Billy on the team now, there was someone to go to and get the job done. He carried the team
and provided what needed to be done on behalf of the team.
Leadership is taking charge of a task that needs to be accomplished or

Cognitive and Motion Impairness after a Stroke
Introduction
An individual s capacity to move is critical to carry out basic activities of daily living (ADL).
Motion illnesses considerably minimize a patient s quality of living. This can be caused by two
ways a) injuries in upper or lower extremities and b) problems in Central Nervous System (CNS
brain or spinal cord). Thanks to the improvements in technology so that new ways of treatments
are available for the treatment of the seriously injured survivors especially from war. In addition
and due to economic reasons, the period of primary therapy is getting shorter and shorter. These
issues will probably intensity later on as longevity continues to increase coupled with the
prevalence of both moderate and intense motor disabilities in the elderly population and
consequently increasing their need of physical assistance. To prevent these problems, current
research studies display a wide variety of products specifically assisting physical rehabilitation.
Robotic devices with the capacity to perform repetitive tasks on patients are among these
technically innovative devices. In fact, robotic devices are already applied in clinical practice as
well as clinical evaluation for rehabilitation from TBI, injured upper or lower extremities and stroke
survivors. However, considering the number of devices described in the literature, so far only a
few of these have succeeded to affect the subject group [1].

Pro-Coal Mining And Anti-Coal Mining Methods
1.What is mountain top removal and what is its purpose? (.5 page)
Mountain top removal is the practice for removing the peaks from mountains to expose coal
seams for extraction, and dumping the excess rocks and earth is then dumped into holler fills.
This is accomplished by use of explosives and huge trucks and machinery. They are blowing off
the top of mountains and dumping the rubble into the water. It was originally intended to be a rare
practice, but now it is business as usual.
The purpose of mountain top mining is to maximize profit potential for coal companies. Coal
remains one of the significant sources of energy in the world. Approximately around 50 percent
% of the United States rely on coal as a provider for their electricity. These companies lease land
from residents and stand to gain most of the profits from the coal. Mountain top removal is cheap
alternative to traditional methods of manual extracting coal. Mountain top removal operations
requires only a few number of workers, but a large amount of big equipment, and dynamite. Not a
matter of putting people in a hole to get coal anymore. Now there is an entire industry built up
around extracting coal.
2.What are the different pro coal mining and anti coal mining arguments made throughout the film?
Who are the proponents/opponents of the coal mining industry and what sorts of environmental
ethics frameworks do they use to express their views? (1 page)

Rhetorical Techniques In Montana 1948 By Larry Watson
The secrets showed by the rhetorical techniques
Larry Watson, in Montana 1948, presents a story of a family that not only Wesley Hayden, as the
sheriff of the town and the brother of the accused doctor, but the whole family struggles between
the family loyalty and justice. Watson develops each character through own ethical dilemmas and
the way they deal with those dilemmas. Since the novel starts with an unexpected event or secret of
Uncle Frank, Watson organizes the whole novel in a fast and depressing rhythm. To make the novel
more interesting to readers, Watson applies the rhetorical techniques such as symbol and
parallelism to render the tense atmosphere and further expressed the characters inner mind.
The symbol is a key technique Watson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
David screams, I could have walked right past our house, down the length of Green Avenue and
right out of Bentrock. I could have kept going and never returned, out of my town, away from
my family, away from my childhood. I could have kept going and taken with me the truth of
what had happened in that house (87). At here, David says I could have for three times to
indicate that he wants to find a place to bury the secret forever. As a twelve years old boy, David
has no power in the whole event, but unfortunately, he knows everything that has happened.
David may wonder if he buries the secret or hides the secret forever, he could have his childhood
back, have his family back, and have his peaceful life back. The parallel construction of I could
have sentences show David s fear of the dirty truth of the family, and the content gives readers a
more intense and stronger feeling than other content does. Due to the parallel structure, David s
fear of the secret is very impressive for readers, it foreshadows that David wants his life back to
normal, thus it helps readers to understand why at the end David concludes that Uncle Frank s
suicide had solved all our problem (161). Overall, Watson writes two parallel structure sentences
like I didn t want to see... and I could have... to analyze David s inner world, thereby shedding
light on the characterization of a twelve years old boy, indicating that David was forced to grow up

Analyzing Steven Pinker s The Stuff Of Thought
Module 3 Assignment
1.Write at least a one paragraph summary of the entire lecture in your own words (no quotes). It
must be obvious after reading your summary that you watched the entire lecture.
In the lecture The Stuff of Thought, Steven Pinker, a renowned anthropologist talked about
different aspects of language. He started out by describing space in language which states how
people uses words such as, on, over, under, and so forth instead of right, left, and so forth.
Moreover, he states that people uses dimensions and width to describe objects. For example, a line
is described as one dimensional object versus a surface that is described as two dimensional space.
There are various substances in language such as, countable things, masses, ... Show more content

Pinker explains that swearing is used as a weapon in order to create negative emotions for the
listeners. Swear words are different across cultures. A taboo word in one country may not be taboo
in a different country. Pinker provided explanations for people wanting to create negative emotions
with each other using swear words (e.g. making a strong point to force the listeners to understand
certain things, letting off steam, etc.). He distinguished between various types of swearing styles in
the video.
Moreover, Pinker described indirect speech acts and explained how people try to give hints to
each other by saying something else instead of directly saying what they want to say. According to
Pinker, language is a good way to gain mutual understanding between people whether it is direct or
indirect. Relationships are built better when indirect languages are used because indirect language
prevents legal issues.

Marriage Should Not Be A Sacred Thing
Marriage used to be a sacred thing; once you married someone you spend the rest of your life
with them. Even some places such as the Philippines and The Vatican City make divorce illegal.
Here in America divorces are happening every single day. This social phenomenon is considered
problematic. Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. When most people think of a divorce,
they think of it ending in bad terms due to infidelity; but this is not always the case. It s important
to understand what a divorce is, how it works, who it affects, the consequences, and the solution.
Divorce has become way to common; we need to reestablish the sacredness of marriageand the
importance of family.
There are two types of divorces, a no fault and an at fault. No fault divorces mean that the person
filing does not have to prove fault on their spouse. States still require a reason for divorces so the
most common reasons are there are too many differences and the marriage is not repairable. An at
fault divorce is most common and this is when a spouse is filing for divorce because of infidelity,
abuse, prison confinement, and may more reasons where the other spouse is at fault and
deteriorating the marriage. There are 5 different defenses against an at fault divorce; connivance,
condonation, recrimination, provocation, and collusion. Connivance is defense to adultery, it
suggests that the partner agreed to and/or participated in the infidelity. Condonation declares that
the other spouse knew

The Beast Within Case Study
Task 1: What is so remarkable about the human brain?
A History of the Brain The Beast Within (Video 6)
The Beast Within refers to Phineas Gage who is commonly known for being one of the most
recognised patients in neuroscience as a result of his traumatic accident. His case had a great
influence on Psychology and early neurology because his observable behaviour after the incident
aided scientists in their theories of localization of brain function (Twomey, 2010).
In 1848, he suffered a devastating brain injury when an explosion caused an iron rod to pierce
through his left cheek and out through the top of his head, thus destroying his frontal lobe (Cherry,
2018). Astonishingly, he survived the incident, however his character changed profoundly.... Show

Imitation creates a defined link to cognitive control and illustrates mental capabilities. This is a
characteristic seen in both humans and animals. For example, when a child mimmicks a certain
behaviour of an adult, it can be assumed that the child is able to interpret the movement and
understand that the two behaviours correspond (Zentall, 2002). It can therefore be established that
Billie, the wild bottlenosed dolphin who was taken to the aquarium for medical treatment and learnt
the tailwalking trick through merely observing her fellow pool mates, has neurons known as mirror
neurons . This enabled a triggered mirror response to the behaviour of another. Due to the
anatomical correlation linking to the brains of both humans and animals it can be said that animals
have minds and similar cognitive capacties to those of humans (The Economist,

The Critical Conversation Surrounding Kipling s Novel,...
Nostalgia cannot be the sole modality for understanding the past and the self, yet neither can
history. The two disparate parts must be brought together in order to understand the influences
which, to a degree, create and shape a person. The critical conversation surrounding Kipling s works
tends to reduce their complexities to the single theme of imperialism. In doing so, the manifestation
of his personhood is overlooked and ignored, creating an incomplete picture of Kipling and his
beliefs. Though an advocate for imperialism and regarded by George Orwell as the prophet of
British Imperialism, Kipling is unwillingly implicated within its rigid constructs (118). There is a
unique complexity to Kipling s works that stems from a psychological trauma. Kipling associated
India with a fanciful childhood heightened through his expatriation at six years old. In turn, as
Wurgraft highlights, spatiality proves to be incredibly important for analyzing Kipling s works;
when he writes of and within India his tone significantly shifts from a harsh imperialist to a
sympathetic, almost childlike, idealist (103 4). Therefore, while Kipling vocally advocates for
imperialism, he does not do so at the expense of India and its inhabitants. This is a result of his
affinity towards India in relations to his childhood, a result which manifests in his spatially Indian
short stories. Of these short stories, Without Benefit of Clergy most acutely depicts his fanciful
nostalgia to return to an

Scholars perception of the rating process in writing assessments
In terms of rating process in writing assessments, pioneer studies in the field has construct distinct
themes of raters position in the rating process. The process was earlier addressed as decision making
process which evokes the raters cognitive thoughts, commonly effected by memory constraints, to
retrieve related information.(Cumming,1990;Lumley,2002;Baker ,2012) Raters of this process
perform by comparing similar constructions in written essays to rating scales.Retention of the
retrieved information are eventually affected by individual experiences and background. The
psychological process relies on the integration of former information that finally develop into a
final score. Since the final product of each rating process is a holistic score that has different
interpretations according the scale used in the rating process, the notion that such score may ignore
to describe the learner qualifications were raised.Weigle (2002) was able to show that raters often
rate holistically when using an analytic rating scale and adjust their scores to match the analytic
criteria. Alderson (2005) also suggests that diagnostic tests should focus on specific abilities rather
than global abilities.According to these reasons, other reseachers believe that rating is merely an
interaction between the rater and three certain things that is the essay, the task and the scale

Winthrop and Penn wanted a government which was self governing and a government that was just

The biggest motivation in Penn and Winthrop was their views on religion and how it should be
carried out in the community. Penn was one the few and first to believe in religious toleration and
freedom to worship any religion without the fear of persecution. The Quaker communities would
welcome all forms of religion such as Baptism and Evangelism while the Puritans would be very
secluded. The Puritans thought any other religion would bring in vile thought and immoral ideals
that would affect their community. Puritans would discourage any other form of religion which
made them a very isolated, homogenous, group of people. Penn s views would also shape the future
government of the United States.
Penn and Winthrop led their people to the New World with the hopes of starting a new, safe, society
that escaped persecution. Their contact with the Indians and their differing views of religion would
help them shape the politics of their communities. They both came with the similar goals but they
would each carry it out in their own specific way. These early colonists would help influence the

team. Major League Baseball does not have a salary cap, but they have installed a luxury tax. The
New York Yankees have had to pay this luxury tax, yet for 7 straight seasons they have not won a

The Errors And Its Effects On The New Way Of View Life
The errors I am most guilty of committing frequently would be, filtering out the positive, unreal
ideal, and labeling. I never know the terminology for these habits until now. When reading the
article, I could picture scenarios when I committed these errors.
I have tendency of labeling everything! When I first moved to America, labeling/grouping items,
people and so on really helped to simplify this new journey. Over the years I am realizing that
that s a poor way of view life. I tend to label people, places, and etc. with little or no interacting.
The last year there has been a lot in the media about police brutality and unfair treated for African
American and minorities in general. When watching the news, I would make a state like these
police officers are evil and out of control. , these officers are all racist and so on. Stating
comments like these are completely unfair. Putting all officers in the same category is small
minded and doesn t solve the problem facing us today. On top of that am implanting those false
beliefs onto my little brother.
Filtering out the positive was my second one. It doesn t matter how much I accomplish or do,
all I focus on is what I could of them better. The first week of the semester I had to give a speech
in a communication class. I was really nervous and shy, but the speech went really well until the
end. For some reason I looked and froze, I then started to stutter on some of the words. Although

sponsors should advertise. Following is the information related to the current brand, which is

in which their logos are going to be advertised.
Current Sponsors and how they are used
The current sponsors, which the sports franchise has is Sky Sports; Sky Sports is a famous sports
channel, where matches of different sports are shown. The current way in which the logo of Sky
Sports is being displayed is through T shirts. Every athlete wears a shirt, on which the logo of
Sky Sports is printed. As sports events are shown on national or international television, the logos
are seen by everyone, who watches the sports event. Moreover, when athletes are called for
interviews, they usually wear their sports jerseys, on which the logo of Star Sports is displayed,
giving more exposure to the brand.
First Sponsor
The first brand which I would approach to sponsor the sports franchise is XBOX; XBOX has
captured the attention of a vast audience, as it is fun for the children and the young. The way
through which the sponsor logo of XBOX would be used is through an application of XBOX, on

The Slave System By Solomon Northup
The slave system was kept in existence for many years since the early 1600 s. A never ending
cycle of pain, and harsh conditions From being in 12 years of slavery, Solomon Northup recounts
the time when he had once been a free man to be kidnapped of that freedom back in 1841. The
relationships that Northup encountered were neither positive or negative . From friends he gained
or his slave masters, the relationships were shaped by slaveryand helped intact the slave system. In
those relationships, how the supervisors of the slaves treated them impacted the slaves work ethic
and the friendships that were made during this harsh time, thus supporting the slave system. One
of the first social relationship Solomon encountered when he entered slavery was James H. Burch.
When Solomon was captured, Burch chained him up and put him in a cell; something Solomon
was not used to at all. Although he claimed he was a free man, Burch beat him every time he said
he was, and forcing Solomon to say he was from Georgia. Burch frightened Solomon with his
beatings and threatening words and because of how cruel Burch was, Solomon kept his mouth shut
and refused to say he was a free man to any of his future slave masters, fearing of the treatment
again. With James Burch treating the slaves in that matter; implemented to the system of slavery,
forcing the slaves to become who they wanted them to be. That allowed slaves to follow orders, and

the time, while other born poor and all their stays poor all the times. However, there are other
people who move from one class to another. Sometimes this mutation depends on the individual
effort. In the Diamond Necklace, Guy de Maupassant describe the life of Mathilde who born
poor and was not happy with her situation. Since she was unable to switch her social class, she
tried for all occasion to appear as rich women. In this short story, Maupassant shows in different
ways why Mathilde should recognize and accept her social class and live in the level of her
class. Maupassant thinks Mathilde should accept her social class because her honor does not
depend to her social class. Also, she should accept her class because happiness does not depend
on the materials things. Finally Mathilde should accept her social class to avoid the deterioration
of her life. First of all, Mathilde should accept her social class because her honor does not depend
on her social class but on her beauty and her intellectually capacity. People are not respected
because they are rich or poor, the beauty of each person is determinant in how people will respect
him. Especially for women in the Mathilde s society there was neither caste nor rank, for beauty,
grace and charm take the place of family and birth (Maupassant). Since Mathilde had a natural
beauty, she should not care about her class. Her

Influence Of The Fontana Dell Acqua Paola
The grand and beautiful Fontana dell Acqua Paola is a portrayal of the power and wealth of the
Borghese family, specifically Pope Paul V Borghese. Placed on Janiculum Hill, the fountain has an
incredible view of the entire city. The large marble fountain was a renovation of an existing
fountain called the Ancient Acqua Traiana, built by Emperor Trajan in 109 CE (Hamblin), gaining
further inspiration from the Fontana dell Acqua Felice. It was installed in 1612 and designers
included Giovanni Fontana who planned the fountain itself, and Carlo Fontana who created the
semicircular pond that was added later on (Heilmann, 2). Popes of the 16th and 17th century used
fountains and aqueducts not only to deliver water but to establish and display their... Show more

Smith states that hegemony, is the ability of the state and the ruling class to regulate beliefs within
a society. Hegemonic beliefs are dominant cultural motifs which reinforce inequality and which
short circuit attempts at critical thinking (Smith, 36). The fountain was a way to enforce and
allude to the creeds of the Pope and the Catholic Church. In this sense, it is obvious that works of
art are a large part of culture and cultural identification. The fountain became a part of history, not
only because it is still standing, but also because of the cultural significance seen in the various
symbols, material and stories behind the different parts of the fountain. While culture is an
ambiguous and debatable term, it is commonly understood and agreed that arts developed by
societies define a large part of a culture. There are several socio cultural functions of art, including
being a record of history, contributing to the transmission or propaganda of ideology or beliefs, and
allowing for further cultural change. Works of art and artifacts are transcendent in nature of
theories and ideology, and therefore, cannot be fully analyzed objectively through the theories used.
However, as seen in the history of Rome, it was established early on that the government and elite
individuals would act as patrons of public art, architecture, and spectacle in the Roman world
(Tuck, 19). As Tuck also states,

Oxygen Diffusion
Respiration, too, is essential to human life. In fact we breathe 15 25 times per minute. When you
suck air in, you use your diaphragm and intercostal muscles to contract and expand your chest
cavity, which shrinks when you exhale. You breathe in air, and it goes through your mouth or nose
into or epiglottis. From there, it transfers into your trachea, and then into the vocal cords, which are
in the larynx. Next, it travels until it reaches the bronchi, and is then relayed into both of your
lungs. Air goes along a path of bronchioles which become smaller and smaller until it arrives at the
alveoli. Inside these, oxygenconcentration is high, and as a result of this, oxygen diffuses from the
alveolar membrane into the pulmonary capillary. When this process begins, hemoglobin located in
your erythrocytes is bounded with carbon dioxide, and a minuscule amount of oxygen. Oxygen is
then bound to hemoglobin, and carbon dioxide is released. (Freudenrich, 2000)
The troposphere is the lowest layer in the atmosphere, a layer wider than the equator, 5 7 miles
above the poles, in which almost all weather occurs. This layer contains 75% of the atmosphere s
mass, and 99% of water vapor in the atmosphere. As height in the troposphere increases,
temperature increases as well, ranging from 17 degrees celsius to 51 ... Show more content on

When it does kick in, you can sometimes get a feeling of euphoria without reason, along with
impaired judgement, problems with coordination, trouble making conclusions, headaches, and
drowsiness. A tool which attaches to a pilot s fingertip can be very helpful with pointing out oxygen
deprivation by monitoring blood oxygen levels. Smokers, on the other hand, have a reduced amount
of hemoglobin, so they have troubles utilizing oxygen in the air, so they may experience hypoxia in
much lower altitudes. (Gardner,

  • 5. Gender Bias And Gender Inequality The average american female only makes в…” of what the average male does. Whether it is in school, or the workforce, gender inequality still exists and is a major problem. There is still a huge difference in the way women get treated compared to the way men get treated. Due to the invisible barrier that is holding back the success of women, social realities need to be redefined in order for genderinequality to longer exist. Gender inequality refers to the unequal rights, responsibilities and opportunities of women and men and girls and boys. There are three main ideas that contribute to it, but there are still many others that do too. One of them is sexism, which refers to the range of attitudes, beliefs, policies, laws, and behaviors that discriminate on the basis of gender. A second idea that also contributes is gender roles. Gender roles are rights, responsibilities, expectations, and relationships of men and women in a society. The third idea is gender bias, which is the favoritism toward one gender or the other. All three have a direct correlation with each other. Gender inequality is most common at school and in the workforce. A lot of people seems to think men hold a higher rank in life than women do just because they think women cannot do the same things a man can do. Just because the the anatomy of a womanand a man are different, doesn t mean one or the other should get better treatment, but that is still a reality women face today. Before reading this book, I had no clue what Islam was or what sort of traditions Muslims practiced (I have done an extremely poor job of being informed with the events and people of the world). Reading about a totally different religionthan my own gave me the opportunity to question the religious practices that I participate in. Hajj seemed like such a silly thing when we first started reading about the 5 pillars of Islam, but once we watched the National Geographic video, something clicked for me. I began to realize how incredible it must feel to be surrounded with people from all over the globe that gather together to do the same religious based activity. Further, I began to recognize just how beneficial the Qur an was for women of that age. Ali Karamali states that, if Islam so greatly raised the status of women fourteen centuries ago, when women s rights were inconceivable and implementation of them was a Herculean task, then the message of Islam itself must be feminist (123). Here I am, a privileged, intelligent, white female trying to raise the bar for women all over the world like I was the first one to think of that. • 7. Alexander Pope and Women Essay example Alexander Pope may have been the adversary of female behavior the extent of this has long been in question. The writer s satirical style towards the women of his era is evidence of his opinions. However, there are noticeable facts that generate a swaying effect on Pope s views and the meaning of The Rape of the Lock. These details consist of the author s personal life and symbolism contained in his mock epic poem, including the voices of Bella and Clarissa, which is an indication that he may not have had the hardened heart towards women that everyone assumed he had. While any evaluation on Alexander Popes personal opinion will conclude with a questioning of who he truly was behind his literary persona, a thorough research provides solid... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beauty was of utmost importance and to climb any social ladder, a pleasing outward appearance was to be achieved. The Rape of the Lock does an excellent job of portraying this thoughtlessness that the women had during the Eighteenth Century. In the mock poem a woman who has her hair cut off and stolen appears to be an action that expresses hilarious sarcastic wit. However this storyline was not just humorous but has a sad underlying tone owing to the fact that a woman in the Eighteenth Century would have taken these circumstances to a serious degree. Alexander Pope expressed his opinion of women in a frank and aggressive manner. As Elizabeth King put it in her notes about The Rape of the Lock, it styled woman a goddess and regarded her as little better than a doll (77), this clarifies Pope s respect of women during his time. The prime example of Pope s opinion is written through his character Belinda, in The Rape of the Lock. In the poem, Belinda is the epitome of loveliness and femininity. The qualities she possesses are not of intellect or wholesome attitude, but the beauty she was born with overpowers any need for intelligence. Due to this, a Sylph named Ariel who was once a woman of similar beauty and class as Belinda protects her, along with the nymphs who were once too, of pleasing disposition in their human life. The History Of Modern Corporate Collection In the 1988, one year after Black Monday when Don Jones Industrial Average fell nearly 23 percent in a single day, Art Auction the international art market journal published its annual edition with the troubling headline: Is Corporate Collecting Dead? . Almost 20 years later, the financial crisis made hundreds of bankers lose their jobs, and the image of people moving out their offices can still be recalled even today, and the same question aroused again. The same questions may appear again and again in the future, but as an essential part of world of art collecting, corporate collecting won t die in the eyes of most people in the field. The brief history of modern corporate collection It is hard to chase back to the origin of the art patronage, since it is nearly as old as art itself, but the shift from a model dating from the Renaissance, in which leaders of industry used the fruits of their labor to purchase or commission superlative art either for their private residences or for the benefit of the public (or of God and the Church), is surprisingly recent. So it s essential to isolate modern corporate collecting from other great but older tradition such as hanging decorative pieces and portraits of founders and other core members to embellish a boardroom or showcase the firm s position or reputation. Modern corporate collecting began in nineteenth century in the United States as a movement to preserve the records, memorabilia, and products of a company. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The creator of the sonnet was a man named Francesco Petrarca who was usually referred to as Petrarch. Petrarch wrote many of his sonnets based upon himself, and his lover, Laura. The conventional format of a sonnet contains fourteen lines, and is segregated to illustrate two arguments. Every sonnet takes the conventional format of fourteen lines, although the way the arguments are split up, may be different. For example, Petrarch and Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnet both take the format of an octave and a sestet, whereas Shakespeare s sonnet takes the format of three quatrains and a rhyming couplet. ... In the octave, Petrarch is searching for his lost lover, Laura. This can be proven in the first line of the sonnet, A thousand times to make my peace I sought. The persona describes his deep love for Laura by using descriptive and metaphorical language. He elevates Laura to a high point by using religious imagery, while he is still below her. And offer you my heart; but little thought had your proud spirit to look down so low. This line also tells us that the persona had offered his love to Laura, but she rejected it; she did not return his affections. From the fourth line and onwards, love is described as being imprisoned. Yet if another would that heart enchain, is an example of this. He believes that Laura is not accepting his love because she has changing dreams and hopes, which are just imaginary. She lives in fickle hopes and dreams untrue. He is also speaking about how any other woman would have hopes and dreams about capturing his heart because it is bound to Laura. In the seventh line of the octave, Petrarch has mentioned about how the persona has things in common with his lover Laura. For example, he hates the things that she hates. • 21. Pro-Coal Mining And Anti-Coal Mining Methods 1.What is mountain top removal and what is its purpose? (.5 page) Mountain top removal is the practice for removing the peaks from mountains to expose coal seams for extraction, and dumping the excess rocks and earth is then dumped into holler fills. This is accomplished by use of explosives and huge trucks and machinery. They are blowing off the top of mountains and dumping the rubble into the water. It was originally intended to be a rare practice, but now it is business as usual. The purpose of mountain top mining is to maximize profit potential for coal companies. Coal remains one of the significant sources of energy in the world. Approximately around 50 percent % of the United States rely on coal as a provider for their electricity. Rhetorical Techniques In Montana 1948 By Larry Watson The secrets showed by the rhetorical techniques Larry Watson, in Montana 1948, presents a story of a family that not only Wesley Hayden, as the sheriff of the town and the brother of the accused doctor, but the whole family struggles between the family loyalty and justice. Watson develops each character through own ethical dilemmas and the way they deal with those dilemmas. Since the novel starts with an unexpected event or secret of Uncle Frank, Watson organizes the whole novel in a fast and depressing rhythm. To make the novel more interesting to readers, Watson applies the rhetorical techniques such as symbol and parallelism to render the tense atmosphere and further expressed the characters inner mind. I could have kept going and never returned, out of my town, away from my family, away from my childhood. I could have kept going and taken with me the truth of what had happened in that house (87). At here, David says I could have for three times to indicate that he wants to find a place to bury the secret forever. As a twelve years old boy, David has no power in the whole event, but unfortunately, he knows everything that has happened. David may wonder if he buries the secret or hides the secret forever, he could have his childhood back, have his family back, and have his peaceful life back. The parallel construction of I could have sentences show David s fear of the dirty truth of the family, and the content gives readers a more intense and stronger feeling than other content does. Due to the parallel structure, David s fear of the secret is very impressive for readers, it foreshadows that David wants his life back to normal, thus it helps readers to understand why at the end David concludes that Uncle Frank s suicide had solved all our problem (161). It must be obvious after reading your summary that you watched the entire lecture. In the lecture The Stuff of Thought, Steven Pinker, a renowned anthropologist talked about different aspects of language. He started out by describing space in language which states how people uses words such as, on, over, under, and so forth instead of right, left, and so forth. Moreover, he states that people uses dimensions and width to describe objects. For example, a line is described as one dimensional object versus a surface that is described as two dimensional space. Pinker explains that swearing is used as a weapon in order to create negative emotions for the listeners. Swear words are different across cultures. A taboo word in one country may not be taboo in a different country. Pinker provided explanations for people wanting to create negative emotions with each other using swear words (e.g. making a strong point to force the listeners to understand certain things, letting off steam, etc.). He distinguished between various types of swearing styles in the video. Moreover, Pinker described indirect speech acts and explained how people try to give hints to each other by saying something else instead of directly saying what they want to say. According to Pinker, language is a good way to gain mutual understanding between people whether it is direct or indirect. Relationships are built better when indirect languages are used because indirect language prevents legal issues. 2.Describe how this lecture relates to the information we are studying in Module 3. Even some places such as the Philippines and The Vatican City make divorce illegal. Here in America divorces are happening every single day. This social phenomenon is considered problematic. Almost 50% of all marriages end in divorce. When most people think of a divorce, they think of it ending in bad terms due to infidelity; but this is not always the case. It s important to understand what a divorce is, how it works, who it affects, the consequences, and the solution. Divorce has become way to common; we need to reestablish the sacredness of marriageand the importance of family. There are two types of divorces, a no fault and an at fault. No fault divorces mean that the person filing does not have to prove fault on their spouse. States still require a reason for divorces so the most common reasons are there are too many differences and the marriage is not repairable. An at fault divorce is most common and this is when a spouse is filing for divorce because of infidelity, abuse, prison confinement, and may more reasons where the other spouse is at fault and deteriorating the marriage. There are 5 different defenses against an at fault divorce; connivance, condonation, recrimination, provocation, and collusion. Connivance is defense to adultery, it suggests that the partner agreed to and/or participated in the infidelity. Condonation declares that the other spouse knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A History of the Brain The Beast Within (Video 6) The Beast Within refers to Phineas Gage who is commonly known for being one of the most recognised patients in neuroscience as a result of his traumatic accident. His case had a great influence on Psychology and early neurology because his observable behaviour after the incident aided scientists in their theories of localization of brain function (Twomey, 2010). • 27. The Critical Conversation Surrounding Kipling s Novel,... Nostalgia cannot be the sole modality for understanding the past and the self, yet neither can history. The two disparate parts must be brought together in order to understand the influences which, to a degree, create and shape a person. The critical conversation surrounding Kipling s works tends to reduce their complexities to the single theme of imperialism. In doing so, the manifestation of his personhood is overlooked and ignored, creating an incomplete picture of Kipling and his beliefs. Though an advocate for imperialism and regarded by George Orwell as the prophet of British Imperialism, Kipling is unwillingly implicated within its rigid constructs (118). There is a unique complexity to Kipling s works that stems from a psychological trauma. Kipling associated India with a fanciful childhood heightened through his expatriation at six years old. In turn, as Wurgraft highlights, spatiality proves to be incredibly important for analyzing Kipling s works; when he writes of and within India his tone significantly shifts from a harsh imperialist to a sympathetic, almost childlike, idealist (103 4). Therefore, while Kipling vocally advocates for imperialism, he does not do so at the expense of India and its inhabitants. This is a result of his affinity towards India in relations to his childhood, a result which manifests in his spatially Indian short stories. Of these short stories, Without Benefit of Clergy most acutely depicts his fanciful nostalgia to return to an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Next, it travels until it reaches the bronchi, and is then relayed into both of your lungs. Air goes along a path of bronchioles which become smaller and smaller until it arrives at the alveoli. Inside these, oxygenconcentration is high, and as a result of this, oxygen diffuses from the alveolar membrane into the pulmonary capillary. When this process begins, hemoglobin located in your erythrocytes is bounded with carbon dioxide, and a minuscule amount of oxygen. Oxygen is then bound to hemoglobin, and carbon dioxide is released. (Freudenrich, 2000) The troposphere is the lowest layer in the atmosphere, a layer wider than the equator, 5 7 miles above the poles, in which almost all weather occurs. This layer contains 75% of the atmosphere s mass, and 99% of water vapor in the atmosphere. As height in the troposphere increases, temperature increases as well, ranging from 17 degrees celsius to 51 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it does kick in, you can sometimes get a feeling of euphoria without reason, along with impaired judgement, problems with coordination, trouble making conclusions, headaches, and drowsiness. A tool which attaches to a pilot s fingertip can be very helpful with pointing out oxygen deprivation by monitoring blood oxygen levels. Smokers, on the other hand, have a reduced amount of hemoglobin, so they have troubles utilizing oxygen in the air, so they may experience hypoxia in much lower altitudes. (Gardner, ...
