The Appellant For Breach Of Its Duty Of Care As An Occupier
When descending a staircase to the appellant s ice rink, the respondent lost his balance and suffered a
serious injury to his right ankle as a result. The respondent brought an action against the appellant for
breach of its duty of care as an occupier. The primary judge, Levy SC DCJ, found on the calculus of
negligence, that the risk of injury from slipping when descending wet stairs whilst wearing skates was
foreseeable, not insignificant and one which a reasonable person in the position of the appellant would
have taken precautions. The primary judge held that the appellant failed to give the respondent
adequate warnings and that the appellant was liable in negligence for the injury sustained by the
respondent. The respondent was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Emmett JA found that if it was an obvious risk, it is presumed that the respondent was
aware of the risk of harm and that the primary judge was erred in concluding that the risk, which
materialised in the fall, was not obvious.
2. If so, was that duty of care contended for by the respondent to warn him of that obvious risk for the
purpose of s 5H(1) of the Act .
Meagher JA at found that the appellant did not owe a duty of care to the respondent to provide a
warning of the obvious risk, as establish in s 5F(1) of the Act . None of the specific exceptions
provided in s 5H(2) of the Act were raised, thus the respondent was not liable and the reason for
appeal upheld.
3. Whether the activity of walking down the stairs was part of the dangerous recreational activity of
ice skating within s 5K of the Act .
Meagher JA agreed with the primary judge, that the act of descending the stairs was not part of a
dangerous recreational activity but merely a preparatory act. Thus, for the purpose of s 5K and s 5L(1)
of the Act , the defence was not applicable and the ground of appeal dismissed.
4. Whether the No Responsibility sign contained a warning for the risks involved in descending the
staircase.
Meagher JA held that the No Responsibility sign did not adequately address the risks associated with
descending the stairs with skates. Additionally, His Honour sought to

Steve Jobs And The History Of Apple
Everyone knows about Steve Jobs and the history of Apple. Apple is a worldwide known business that
is arguably one of the most popular in the technology industry today. Things like the IPhone, IPod,
and Macbook are some of the most popular products but that is not where things started. Steve Jobs
was one of the entrepreneurs that started apple and is the most widely known. Things did not always
look so pretty however. Steve Jobs was a good friend of Steve Wozniak. They joined together to create
a computer. They were inspired to build something all people could afford. In the article, History of
Apple, 1976 2016: The story of Steve Jobs and the company he founded it says, Jobs met Woz at the

It was to really show the people around me, to boast, to be clever, to get acknowledgement for having
designed a very inexpensive computer (Rawlinson). This was all just to show people a computer did
not have to be expensive. It proved that computers could be affordable for all. Wozniak was happy
with what he had produced, although Jobs saw otherwise. The Woz we know now has a larger than life
personality he s funded rock concerts and shimmied on Dancing with the Stars but, as he told the
Sydney Morning Herald, I was shy and felt that I knew little about the newest developments in
computers. He came close to ducking out altogether, and giving the Club a miss. Let s be thankful he
didn t. Jobs saw the computer, recognised its brilliance, and sold his VW microbus to help fund its
production. Wozniak sold his HP calculator, and together they founded Apple Computer Inc on 1 April
1976 (Rawlinson). Thanks to Steve Jobs ability to see what was there, Apple was founded and given
the ability to what we see Apple is today. Although Apple does make many profits, it has succeeded in
its original company goal. Which is, as the article, Steve Jobs: An Extraordinary Career states, We
started out to get a computer in the hands of everyday people, and we succeeded beyond our wildest
dreams. Steve Jobs (Entrepreneur Staff) . This is one of the reasons Apple is so successful. It created a

Anne s Diary
(a) Written by the inspiring Anne Frank herself, The Diary of a Young Girl has plenty of characters
each playing a significant role in Anne s life, but none of these characters come close to being
considered a best friend. Instead, although not a character, Anne s diary in which she named Kitty , is
someone who could be considered as Anne s true best friend. (b1) The reason that Anne s diary
surpasses every other character in being Anne s best friend is because the diary had the character trait
of being trustworthy and therefore acted like a confidant to Anne. Kitty being trustworthy to Anne was
shown in several different parts of the diary. For example, on June 20, 1942 when Anne was just
starting her diary. She was contemplating whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(b) The Secret Annex during the time period of the Adolf Hitler s reign is not an ideal setting because
the Holocaust was taking place, there were several bombings and air raids and because there was a
shortage of food in that time period. For these reasons, I would not consider visiting The Secret Annex
during this time period. (c1) One reason why the setting of Anne s diary was not ideal was because
Anne s diary was set during the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a sadistic and ruthless time period
where over six million Jewish people and many others were killed in concentration camps. At this
time, Germany had a dictator by the name of Adolf Hitler, who led the Nazi party and was responsible
for a genocide. Anne, a Jewish girl, was in hiding during the Holocaust with the fear of being sent to a
murderous concentration camp instilled inside of her. She writes in her diary, not only to have a friend
but also so that one day people could read her diary and hear about the horrible ways that Jewish
people were treated. She described this as she writes Who has inflicted this upon us? Who has made
us Jews different from all other people? Who has allowed us to suffer so terribly up till now? (Frank
207). (d3) Anne says Who has allowed us to suffer describing how the Jewish people had to suffer
tremendously during the Holocaust. How so many innocents were brutally murdered in the most
inhumane ways possible and the rest who were not in the camps had to live out their days in constant
fear that they would become a victim of the genocide. She also writes who has made us Jews different
from all other people? showing that the Jewish people were separated from all others. They were
treated differently and cold heartedly. The Holocaust overall was a time of cruelty and unfairness as
Anne described, making the

Creating A Powerful Store Image

a Powerful Store Image 1. Introduction We ve heard it again and again You never get a second chance
to make a first impression . Even though there are many influences at work in the shopping
experience, the look of a store holds the most sway in enticing us through the doors. We even tend to
sum up that initial in store encounter in visual terms: a store is exciting, clean or well organized or, at

A store in a Victorian brownstone building, for example, will exude images associated with the
building s architectural era, such as cozy, tastefully cluttered and comfortable. If your exterior
architecture is not projecting the right image, consider painting or re facing the storefront, adding or
removing some architectural elements in keeping with your image, or consulting a designer to totally
re engineer the storefront. The Store Sign The store sign is a vital element of the storefront, identifying
your store and beckoning the customer to take notice and stop. In realizing the value of a strong
storefront sign, many retailers are employing new design techniques which include projecting or
cantilevering the store sign beyond the lease line, adding motion, or using three dimensional lettering
and unique lighting applications to add depth to the sign. If your storefront sign is losing the battle for
visual dominance among neighbouring stores, consider re painting it or adding more colour, making it
bigger and bolder, incorporating your trademark, using new, more contemporary materials to create
your sign, and/or adding motion or lighting. Store Windows A store s exterior windows or glass
storefront provide an additional opportunity to reach out and grab the passing customer. Windows are
integral in creating a positive impression since they offer an opportunity to begin telling your store s
unique merchandise story immediately. Many

Maya Angelou Metaphors
Maya Angelou starts off the poem with one foot down, then hop! It s hot/ Good things for the ones

The Effect Of Soft Tissue Constituent Materials
The goal of this thesis is to identify the effect of soft tissue constituent materials in tissue classification
for the application of breast cancer detection. Hyperelastic parameters may be essential in estimating
large deformation in tissue for the purpose of surgical procedures such as breast brachytherapy. These
properties of human soft tissue play a significant role in diagnosis, screening, and monitoring of
cancer (O Hagan Samani,
2009). On the other hand, elastography is based mainly on the concept of tissue reactions (linear and
nonlinear) to an external source of load such as compression.
Moreover, in most breast examination methods, compression is applied to help detect lesions. In CBE
and BSE, the examiner applies a compressive load to the breast to investigate stiff regions and must
sometimes exert a large deformation to feel lesions in depth. Mammography also uses compression to
reduce breast thickness. Additionally, compressive behavior of human breast biopsies obtained
through lumpectomy (the surgical procedure to remove a cancer or non cancer breast lump with some
surrounding tissues) is of interest to the cancer research agencies in order to distinguish the
mechanical nature of anomalies of the taken biopsy. Despite of the importance of compressive loading
and its contribution to hyperelastic characterization of tissue in
9
applications of cancer detection, few studies have focused on the behavior of tissue components in
response to compression. The main

Florida Wine Cellars Essay
Whenever people visit Northwest Florida, the first thing that comes to mind are the area s crystal
white sand beaches, turquoise water, and lush forests. It might come as a surprise to visitors that the
region is also home to several excellent wineries. A number of area wineries produce native grown and
natural Muscadine vines consisting of either grape, a blend of exotic or citrus fruit.
The vineyards, some not much larger than a backyard offer wine tasting and tours with the option to
purchase some of these excellent wines.

Compare And Contrast Michael Jordan Vs Lebron James
Most people believe that Michael Jordan is a better basketball player than LeBron James. In the 2003
NBA draft, however, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected LeBron James as their first pick. Whereas,
Michael Jordan was the third pick in the 1984 NBA draft, selected by the Chicago Bulls. I believe that
LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan due to LeBron had hit 30,000 career points at 33 years
old, LeBron was a more team player than Michael, despite Michael had arguably the greatest coach of
all time, Phil Jackson. LeBron was a 6 8 small forward (who would eventually play all positions on
the court) straight out of high school when he was drafted. During LeBron s senior year in high school
he averaged 31.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists

Effects of Rising Technology
Effects of Rising Technology
In the twenty first century, evolution and constant use of technology have greatly impacted humans,
and their ways to approaching media. Many people believe that technology has improved the quality
of life of the people at a great depth, while others see it as a force that has escaped from human
control. Modern technology such as Internet, may help people solve problems or gather information
faster than an ordinary human being is capable of. At the same time, it can also destroy one s social
life and interactions with humans if proper balance is not maintained. While people s thoughts
regarding the two sides are intriguing, the question is, are the negative effects gradually outnumbering
the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While both authors present some of the positive effects of technology, as mentioned above, to us, each
of them addresses different issues on how exactly uses of technology and technological improvements
negatively impact human life. As people become addicted to the valuable web efficiency, it turns out
that the Internet serves to be quite harmful towards human cognition in such that it diminishes the
capacity of human concentration and contemplation. As Carr says in Is Google Making Us Stupid ,
media supply the stuff of thought, but they also shape the process of thought (Carr 2). In other words,
Internet is controlling and changing the way we think or consume information and thus, flattering our
own intelligence into artificial intelligence (Carr 8). People nowadays are so used to the information
provided by the Internet that they do not rely on their own knowledge or think on their own like they
used to prior to the advent of Internet. An instance that reflects this idea of self manipulation is shown
in Carr s own statement, Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words. Now I zip along the surface
like a guy on a Jet Ski (Carr 2). Even though Carr does not go onto to say that he is becoming
vacuous, he believes that his mind is changing due to spending so much time on the web over the last
several years. Before, he was very much engaged

The Buggy In The Capote Short Summary
4. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old
woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a
long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can
understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the
story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for
adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition.
5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably
unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart,
they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady
exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds
singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our
buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys
sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the
adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the
same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship.
6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas
together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final
Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each other.
After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus
on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. As if I expected to see, rather like
hearts, a lost pair of kites hurrying toward heaven (Capote 11). The kites are more than just kites to
Buddy. They are a symbol of their timeless friendship and harmony they will always have, physically
alive or not. He will never forget her, and she will reign in his

From the beginning of the 1912 election, the people could sense the new ideas of Woodrow Wilson
would move them in the right direction. Wilson s idea of New Freedom would almost guarantee his
presidential victory in 1912. In contrast to Wilson s New Freedom, Roosevelt s New Nationalism
called for the continued consolidation of trusts and labor unions, paralleled by the growth of powerful
regulatory agencies. Roosevelt s ideas were founded in the Herbert

The new Federal Reserve
Board, appointed by the president, oversaw a nationwide system of twelve regional re served districts,
each with its own central bank. The final authority over these banks was granted to the Federal
Reserve Board, which guaranteed a substantial measure of public control. The board was also
empowered to issue paper money called quot;Federal Reserve Notes. quot; The amount of money in
circulation could be swiftly increased as needed for the legitimate requirements of business.
In 1914, Woodrow Wilson tried to tame the trusts. Again making a personal ap pearance to address
Congress with his propositions helped dramatize the situation and sway the support towards his ideas.
Congress responded with the Federal Trade Commis sion Act of 1914. The new law empowered a
presidentially appointed commission to toughen regulations on interstate commerce. This was
supposed to crush monopolies by wiping out unfair trade policies. Next came the Clayton Anti Trust
Act of 1914, which was meant to further strangle the major monopolies. It lengthened the list of
business practices deemed objectionable in the Sherman Act. Now, price discrimination and inter
locking directorates were gravely forbidden.
Wilson had caught the attention of the public by conquering the quot;triple wall of privilege. quot;

During the backpacking boom of the 1970s when there was a growing understanding about the natural

people began to take on the trail for long periods of time. (Cosmo) Trails that were previously only

some time, many hikers and trail managers grew concerned about the future of the trail and began

The Role Of Education In Waiting For Superman
One of Superman s famous quotes is, [The symbol] is not an S, on my world it means hope. Hope
represents the foundation on which children and adults cling to day by day. People all across America
wait for Superman to save them from the evils in their lives. For the children highlighted in the
documentary Waiting for Superman, hope is the only thing driving them to achieve a commendable
education in today s failing school system. Davis Guggenheim, an American film and tv director,
produced this documentary in hopes of eliciting a worried response for the future of education in the
United States. He reflects the individual struggles of students as well as a general view of the
education system through animations and the overall structure of the documentary. Guggenheim urges
the audience to notice the system s detrimental aspects and take action in order to save our prospective
students.
Animation: a dynamic visual medium produced from static drawings, models, or objects posed in a
series of incremental movements that are then rapidly sequenced to give the illusion of lifelike motion.
Within the documentary, Guggenheim portrays clips of animation, specifically during moments when
a great amount of facts and statistics are presented. These clips are included within the film to break
up the scenes of real life footage. For example, Guggenheim uses hand drawn images to make the
claim that it is less expensive to send students to private schools than it is to pay for inmates at

Reflection Of The Qri-6 Passage
For lesson 3, we started out by doing the QRI 6 Passage. I first asked him the three concept questions
before reading the passage. For the first question, he just said, I don t know. I feel like he knew what
to say; he just didn t want to answer the question or say what he was thinking. The other two questions
he answered and got the highest score for each of those, so he scored a 6 out of 9, or a 66 and 2/3%.
He then read the passage, Just Like Mom, to me. There were 45 total words in the passage, and he was
able to read all of them correctly. I timed him as he was reading, and it took him 36 seconds to read
the whole thing. Because he didn t have any miscues, his words per minute (WPM) was the same as

He came up with some good answers to put in the diagram, and he wrote it all himself. He used the

letters backwards.
Section 2: Child s Literacy Knowledge Looking at the QRI 6 passage, Brakke is a good reader. He
didn t miss any of the words, and for being a first grader, 75 WPM seems decently fast to me. There
were no hesitations when reading the passage either. When I asked him the concept questions, it was
just the first question that he didn t know or didn t want to answer. The question was, What is a Mom?
and he just kept on saying, I don t know. I think maybe he just didn t want to say the wrong thing or
didn t think he had a good enough answer, so he didn t want to say. The other two questions, though,
he answered just fine, so he understood those. After asking him to retell the story to me, he provided
half of the answers listed down, so I can tell that he comprehends and remembers what he reads,
because most of the ones that he did miss were just repeats of saying, Just like Mom, and he only said
that once, which is awesome that he remembered to at least say it one time. He also did a great job
answering the other five questions after reading the passage, which were comprehension questions. He
got all but one of the questions right, and because they were all explicit answers, that shows me that he
remembers what he reads. I

Satirical Comments in The Importance of Being Earnest by...
The class system during the Victorian Period played a significant role on people s lives. The class a
person belonged to played an important role in that individual s future. In Victorian England, class
diversity and class placement either hindered or enhanced people s lives. One work of literature that
comments on class distinctions in Victorian England is The Importance of Being Earnest , by Oscar
Wilde. In The Importance of Being Earnest , Wilde expresses the concern with the Victorian people
endeavoring to maintain an upper class reputation while hiding the reality of their lives. The Victorian
class system had an influential role on peoples lives. The Victorian class system was stringent was a

In the play they say Consider the following... Cecily: May I offer you some tea, Miss Fairfax?
Gwendolen: Thank you. Detestable girl! But I require tea! Cecily: Sugar? Gwendolen: No, thank you.
Sugar is not fashionable any more. Cecily: Cake or bread and butter? Gwendolen: Bread and butter,
please. Cake is rarely seen at the best houses nowadays. Cecily: Hand that to Miss Fairfax. (Wilde 38)
Wilde s concern with Victorian s people trying to maintain an upper class stature is seen clearly in this
quote. Gwendolyn requests no sugar with her tea and just bread and butter. Her reasoning is that sugar
is not the norm anymore and cake is not at the best of the houses anymore. Gwendolyn is letting
society dictate what Gwendolyn is saying that all the things she offered aren t for an upper class lady
like herself. Usually a person chooses what they want by knowing which tastes better in their opinion.
These choices are important to Gwendolyn, even though they shouldn t, because Gwendolyn thinks
doing and requesting these things will make her appear of higher social status. People like Gwendolyn
think that to be apart of the upper class you need wealth and style which is short sighted. Wilde
expresses the concern of people trying to maintain a higher social status through Gwendolyn and her
reasoning on why she chooses what she wants. Oscar Wilde pokes fun at the concern with Victorian

Boeing Engineering Strike Case Analysis
Negotiation Efforts: The Boeing Engineering Strike In 2000, the Boeing Company found itself in an
unprecedented crisis. Over 17,000 engineers walked off the job site in a massive strike initiative.
Attempts to end and mitigate the strike provide a backdrop for negotiation process analysis in a
collective bargaining situation. Prior to the engineering strike, Boeing grossly underestimated the
morale and emotions of the company s engineers. The failure to connect with employee concerns cost
the company in both reputation and financial loss. The purpose of this paper is to explore the
negotiation process as it unfolded during the Boeing engineering strike.
Boeing
The Boeing Company represents the world s largest aerospace corporation and is the foremost
producer of commercial jets as well as defense, space, and security systems. Corporate offices are
located in Chicago, IL supporting Boeing s two business units: Commercial and Defense, Space, and
Security. The company boasts one of the worlds most talented, diverse, and creative pool of
employees with approximately 160,000 individuals working throughout the United States and in more

There were two main reasons. First, the organization had historically experienced one engineering

Boeing was not aware of how strongly the engineers felt about the McDonnell Douglas merger, white

Theology of the Body
Pope John Paul II s Theology of the Body
A Cliff Notes Version
Introduction
A. The Theology of the Body is the term used to describe the teaching of Pope John Paul about the
human person and human sexuality given during his Wednesday Catecheses in St. Peter s Square
between September 5, 1979 and November 28, 1984. John Paul II says that these catecheses could be
called Human Love in the Divine Plan or The Redemption of the Body and the Sacramentality of
Marriage.
B. Various scholars, in different language groupings, will generally break the theology of the body
found in these 129 catecheses down into four main sections, others six. I think the most logical way to
do so is to break it down into seven interrelated sections:
1) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This redemption of the body, which agrees with our experience, opens the way for the proper theology
of the body.
B. Man s original solitude
1) God said: It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him (Gen 2:18).
This man refers to the human person, and not just to the male.
2) God had put man through a test in naming all of creation, which in addition to revealing to man his
freedom, allowed him to become aware of his difference from the rest of creation. He was also not
God. Man is conscious that he belongs to the visible world as a body among different bodies, but he
was self consciously in search of his identity and felt alone (another sign of self knowledge), because
he was different from the rest of creation and from God. This indicates man s original subjectivity.
3) God s command concerning the tree of the knowledge of good and evil provides man the moment
of choice and self determination, of free will.
4) God s command to fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion (Gen 1:28) by tilling the earth
shows that man s capacity to dominate the earth lies within himself, transforming it to his own needs.
C. The original unity of man and woman
1) The meaning of original solitude (man Adam) is substantially prior to the meaning of original unity
(male female).
2) The analogy of Adam s falling

System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
The Systems development life cycle (SDLC) is a conceptual model that is used in the project
management which describes the stages involved in the information system development project, from
an initial feasibility study through maintenance of the completed application. SDLC is used to correct
problems in existing system, and to improve the system quality and structure. It certainly makes the
process easy for building a system and helps to reduce failures such as unclear objectives, possibility
of not meeting the user needs, or cost overruns. We can generally consider the SDLC in five phases.
These 5 phases are repeated until the desired or efficient output is achieved. The 5 phases of system
development life cycle are:
1. Planning
2. Analysis
3. Design
4. Implementation
5. Maintenance
1. Planning:
This phase begins when the project is defined and the appropriate resources have been selected. The
first part of the planning phase involves collecting, defining and validating functional, support and
training requirements. The second part involves developing initial life cycle management plans,
including project planning, project management, Configuration Management, support,

Examples Of Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.
Nelson Mandela s quote speaks volumes toward injustice in the world today. Racism, gender bias,
unfair treatment, and false assumptions all contribute to the concept of injustice. Harper Lee s To Kill
a Mockingbird novel demonstrates many forms of injustice, and while some may seem petty, they still
have a massive effect on a person. Lee Presents an unfair trial tainted by racism and many
presumptuous people who take sides in matters when they do not even know the whole story. Clearly,
To Kill a Mockingbird carries a constant theme of injustice through racism, unfair assumptions, and
the stubbornness of man.
Firstly, the novel presents injustice through racism. Harper Lee excellently portrays injustice through
racism in the justice system and by rash actions. For example, when the Ewells falsely accuse African
American Tom Robinson of rape, the trial clearly reveals Robinson s innocence. ... Show more content

The novel characterizes this form of injustice from through hasty adults and the silly thoughts of
children. For example, Scout finds herself in a quarrel with her unruly cousin Francis when he belittles
her father s work, and afterwards, she says to her Uncle, Well, in the first place you never stopped to
gimme a chance to tell you my side of it you just lit right into me (113). While both Francis and Scout
were at fault in this situation, Scout s Uncle failed to hear both sides of the story and unfairly rebukes
only Scout. Another petty, but still important, injustice results from Scout and her brother s false
beliefs about Boo Radley. They assume that he is an evil person who would kill them if they set foot
on his property, but discovering his kind character proves them wrong in the end. Clearly, the novel
shows how injustice can spring from people s false assumptions or

My Personal Reflection Of Diversity
Diversity
This paper is going to cover my personal reflection of what diversity means to me. I will discuss the
messages I learned as a child about various minorities and majorities, and how my views have
changed since then. I will also describe a situation in which diversity directly influenced my life. This
paper will also include reflections of the common read novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two

I believed diversity was something we should want. As an adult I can better understand why many felt
the way they did. Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity
was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized
the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a
placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to
poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and
their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum
Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the
company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had five white households when we moved in.
Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr. Eddie, who had been there since the late forties.
Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie moved to be closer to family. Then there were three
households with children, all single mothers, and walking the poverty line. Over the course of a few
years, they all moved away due to the increase in gang activity. My family stayed until 2002 when our
home was robbed.

The Legacy Of The Ford Motor Company
On June 17, 1903 the Ford Motor Company was organized. The date is the day the deal started for
Henry Ford not because the company had his name, the day all his hard work would start to payoff. To
look at the deal from just one day would not do justice to the brilliant way and intertwined ways
Henry Ford took the world by storm. From the start in Ford s garage to the offices of lawyers, and
then on to control of the largest automotive companies in the world one can see the deal was just a key
to Mr. Ford s future. To start, Henry Ford was born on a family farm during the Civil War. This is what
would drive Mr. Ford; not wanting to be a farmer and wanting to work on machinery. Unsatisfied with
farm work, Ford left home the following year, at the age of 16, to take an apprenticeship as a
machinist in Detroit. In the years that followed, he would learn to skillfully operate and service steam
engines, and would also study bookkeeping. Later Henry Ford would work for the Edison Lighting
Company as an engineer, later Ford would become chief engineer. Ford got a chance to meet Thomas
Edison and showed Edison his plans for his first horseless carriage. This meeting would lead to a
friendship that would help Ford when designing his assembly line. Another account of Ford s early
years says, In 1879 he left the farm to become an apprentice at the Michigan Car Company, a
manufacturer of railroad cars in Detroit. Over the next two and one half years he held several similar
jobs,

The Geology Behind Tsunami Waves
Tsunamis: the Geology Behind the Deadly Wave Tsunamis are damaging natural disasters that are
universally feared. Nature can be one of the entities that terrifies humans the most. These disastrous
tsunamis can be caused by many different situations. Geology is closely connected to the production
of tsunamis and their occurrences. It is also a useful tool in identifying the causes of tsunamis in
ancient times. All tsunamis are tied to rocks and minerals, which cause earthquakes. When the ocean
floor moves, water is thrust upward, thus causing a tsunami. These giant waves of destruction are
caused by volcanoes, earthquakes, and underwater landslides. Earthquakes are more common in the
causing of tsunamis than any other cause. Some notable tsunamis throughout history are the Mt. Etna

These deposits are sedimentary and are left behind when the tsunami pulls back out to sea. These
deposits can often be found in lagoons just off the coastline. The sediments are fine grained.
Sometimes boulders can be used to identify past tsunamis but this is not a reliable approach due to
cyclones and other natural disasters having the same ability of boulder movement. These deposits help
scientists to uncover the truths about the pasts and even determine the magnitude of a historical
earthquake. There was an earthquake in 869 in Sendai and Honshu called the Sanriku earthquake. The
scientists were able to uncover facts about the earthquake due to the sediments left behind from the
resulting tsunami. The term used to describe these scientists and their profession is Palesoseismology.
They look at sediments and rocks and observe them. Using the observations, they uncover the truth of
ancient earthquakes in the past. This is helpful to inform people of seismic hazard and to prevent
widespread damage. If there has been an earthquake previously then there is likely to be one again.

With the emergence of a more democratic political system and deregulation other crops developed as

Energy Is The Most Outstanding Ingredient For Socio...
Energy is the most outstanding ingredient for socio economic growth world wide. It exists in various
forms like mechanical, chemical, electrical, heat, light etc. There is minimum amount of energy
required for life sustainability. Most especially from the food we eat but fuel energy is needed in
cooking and in some climate, for heating houses. Research has shown that in 2008 for instance, the
world wide consumption rate of energy was estimated at 500 exajoules per year (EJ)/y. The
importance of an energy system is to secure energy service in the industrial, transport, house hold and
service sectors of the economy. Energy, invariably is the fulcrum of growth of national economies.
Fossil fuels are carriers of hydrocarbon substances. They include coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Its
consumption depletes at any rate. Typically, the looming energy crisis is sequel to consuming these
fossil fuels at a rate that is practically unsustainable. Besides, when consumed, fossil fuels upset the
natural balance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, giving rise to various environmental tipping

Examples Of Love In Sonnet 116
Love is a strong and lasting affection between spouses or lovers who are in a happy, passionate and
fulfilling relationship. It can also be an unbreakable bond sustained through all the ups and downs
faced in life, an everlasting feeling. This unconditional form of the feeling is rare and is usually found
between parent and child relationships. It is, without a doubt, the most discussed feeling in the world.
The feeling has been the source of thoughts for many different poets since the beginning of time and
has been portrayed in a variety of ways. Such distinctive portrayals of love consist of; the varying
definitions of love; exploration of obsessive love; the depiction of unconditional love.
One distinction in the way poets portray love is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Sonnet 116 Shakespeare expresses his views of what love should be by explaining what it
is not. He implies that it is something that is exciting from the start to the very end. This is
exemplified in the lines where it says, Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out
even to the edge of doom. Shakespeare uses personification by using the pronoun his to describe love
as if it is a human that must be cared for and treated assiduously. In the very first line of the poem he
speaks of marriage not only as a show of love but mainly as a spiritual bond between two souls. This
is indicated by the line Let me not to the marriage of true minds. There are a number of expressive
metaphors used to represent his views of love. This is made apparent in the line, Love s not Time s
fool, This metaphor tells the reader that love should be everlasting as it does not play by the rules of
time and never fades or dwindles. The noun fool has connotations of being playful and amusing and it
is included to apprise the reader that love is not just a form of entertainment and cannot merely be
used to beguile someone for a short period of time until it is unwanted. Another metaphor is seen
earlier in the poem as it says, It is the

Existential Vacuum
There have been many phenomena introduced to man within the twentieth century. The most
important and interesting of these phenomena is the existential vacuum. In the 1960s, Viktor Frankl
observed that people twentieth century have lost meaning of purpose. He also observed that the
existential vacuum was worse in the United States than in Europe or developing countries. A potential
cause for this feeling of emptiness is the loss of animal instinct throughout human history. Every
living culture, whether it was human or animal has an innate set of instincts that guide how we live.
However, through time, humans have tamed those instincts and shoved them into non existence by
creating laws of civility. For example, people used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yes, we still eat meat, but the connection of what it means for one life (the cow, for example), to give
up that life so that another (the human) may live, is lost. Where once people had respect for the food
they ate and understood the life sustenance that made food so important, now it means nothing. There
is no understanding to how food reacts with our bodies. The only understanding is that when you feel
hunger, you want to eat. And food is readily available, so it is no big deal. Likewise, the connection to
clothes has become how they make you look when wearing them, rather than the appreciation of how
they are made. Humans used to be awed by something so simple as the sun rising every day, after
disappearing the night before. Storms were something to be feared. A successful hunt was something
to show appreciation for, as was a successful harvest. People developed religion to worship the

  • 2. The Appellant For Breach Of Its Duty Of Care As An Occupier When descending a staircase to the appellant s ice rink, the respondent lost his balance and suffered a serious injury to his right ankle as a result. The respondent brought an action against the appellant for breach of its duty of care as an occupier. The primary judge, Levy SC DCJ, found on the calculus of negligence, that the risk of injury from slipping when descending wet stairs whilst wearing skates was foreseeable, not insignificant and one which a reasonable person in the position of the appellant would have taken precautions. The primary judge held that the appellant failed to give the respondent adequate warnings and that the appellant was liable in negligence for the injury sustained by the respondent. The respondent was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, Emmett JA found that if it was an obvious risk, it is presumed that the respondent was aware of the risk of harm and that the primary judge was erred in concluding that the risk, which materialised in the fall, was not obvious. 2. If so, was that duty of care contended for by the respondent to warn him of that obvious risk for the purpose of s 5H(1) of the Act . Meagher JA at found that the appellant did not owe a duty of care to the respondent to provide a warning of the obvious risk, as establish in s 5F(1) of the Act . None of the specific exceptions provided in s 5H(2) of the Act were raised, thus the respondent was not liable and the reason for appeal upheld. 3. Whether the activity of walking down the stairs was part of the dangerous recreational activity of ice skating within s 5K of the Act . Meagher JA agreed with the primary judge, that the act of descending the stairs was not part of a dangerous recreational activity but merely a preparatory act. Thus, for the purpose of s 5K and s 5L(1) of the Act , the defence was not applicable and the ground of appeal dismissed. 4. Whether the No Responsibility sign contained a warning for the risks involved in descending the staircase. Meagher JA held that the No Responsibility sign did not adequately address the risks associated with descending the stairs with skates. Additionally, His Honour sought to ... • 3. Steve Jobs And The History Of Apple Everyone knows about Steve Jobs and the history of Apple. Apple is a worldwide known business that is arguably one of the most popular in the technology industry today. Things like the IPhone, IPod, and Macbook are some of the most popular products but that is not where things started. Steve Jobs was one of the entrepreneurs that started apple and is the most widely known. Things did not always look so pretty however. Steve Jobs was a good friend of Steve Wozniak. They joined together to create a computer. They were inspired to build something all people could afford. In the article, History of Apple, 1976 2016: The story of Steve Jobs and the company he founded it says, Jobs met Woz at the Homebrew Computer Club; a gathering of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was to really show the people around me, to boast, to be clever, to get acknowledgement for having designed a very inexpensive computer (Rawlinson). This was all just to show people a computer did not have to be expensive. It proved that computers could be affordable for all. Wozniak was happy with what he had produced, although Jobs saw otherwise. The Woz we know now has a larger than life personality he s funded rock concerts and shimmied on Dancing with the Stars but, as he told the Sydney Morning Herald, I was shy and felt that I knew little about the newest developments in computers. He came close to ducking out altogether, and giving the Club a miss. Let s be thankful he didn t. Jobs saw the computer, recognised its brilliance, and sold his VW microbus to help fund its production. Wozniak sold his HP calculator, and together they founded Apple Computer Inc on 1 April 1976 (Rawlinson). Thanks to Steve Jobs ability to see what was there, Apple was founded and given the ability to what we see Apple is today. Although Apple does make many profits, it has succeeded in its original company goal. Which is, as the article, Steve Jobs: An Extraordinary Career states, We started out to get a computer in the hands of everyday people, and we succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. • 4. Anne s Diary (a) Written by the inspiring Anne Frank herself, The Diary of a Young Girl has plenty of characters each playing a significant role in Anne s life, but none of these characters come close to being considered a best friend. Instead, although not a character, Anne s diary in which she named Kitty , is someone who could be considered as Anne s true best friend. (b1) The reason that Anne s diary surpasses every other character in being Anne s best friend is because the diary had the character trait of being trustworthy and therefore acted like a confidant to Anne. Kitty being trustworthy to Anne was shown in several different parts of the diary. For example, on June 20, 1942 when Anne was just starting her diary. She was contemplating whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (b) The Secret Annex during the time period of the Adolf Hitler s reign is not an ideal setting because the Holocaust was taking place, there were several bombings and air raids and because there was a shortage of food in that time period. For these reasons, I would not consider visiting The Secret Annex during this time period. (c1) One reason why the setting of Anne s diary was not ideal was because Anne s diary was set during the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a sadistic and ruthless time period where over six million Jewish people and many others were killed in concentration camps. At this time, Germany had a dictator by the name of Adolf Hitler, who led the Nazi party and was responsible for a genocide. Anne, a Jewish girl, was in hiding during the Holocaust with the fear of being sent to a murderous concentration camp instilled inside of her. She writes in her diary, not only to have a friend but also so that one day people could read her diary and hear about the horrible ways that Jewish people were treated. She described this as she writes Who has inflicted this upon us? Who has made us Jews different from all other people? Who has allowed us to suffer so terribly up till now? (Frank 207). Even though there are many influences at work in the shopping experience, the look of a store holds the most sway in enticing us through the doors. A store in a Victorian brownstone building, for example, will exude images associated with the building s architectural era, such as cozy, tastefully cluttered and comfortable. The Store Sign The store sign is a vital element of the storefront, identifying your store and beckoning the customer to take notice and stop. In realizing the value of a strong storefront sign, many retailers are employing new design techniques which include projecting or cantilevering the store sign beyond the lease line, adding motion, or using three dimensional lettering and unique lighting applications to add depth to the sign. If your storefront sign is losing the battle for visual dominance among neighbouring stores, consider re painting it or adding more colour, making it bigger and bolder, incorporating your trademark, using new, more contemporary materials to create your sign, and/or adding motion or lighting. Store Windows A store s exterior windows or glass storefront provide an additional opportunity to reach out and grab the passing customer. Windows are integral in creating a positive impression since they offer an opportunity to begin telling your store s unique merchandise story immediately. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Effect Of Soft Tissue Constituent Materials The goal of this thesis is to identify the effect of soft tissue constituent materials in tissue classification for the application of breast cancer detection. Hyperelastic parameters may be essential in estimating large deformation in tissue for the purpose of surgical procedures such as breast brachytherapy. These properties of human soft tissue play a significant role in diagnosis, screening, and monitoring of cancer (O Hagan Samani, 2009). On the other hand, elastography is based mainly on the concept of tissue reactions (linear and nonlinear) to an external source of load such as compression. Moreover, in most breast examination methods, compression is applied to help detect lesions. In CBE and BSE, the examiner applies a compressive load to the breast to investigate stiff regions and must sometimes exert a large deformation to feel lesions in depth. Mammography also uses compression to reduce breast thickness. Additionally, compressive behavior of human breast biopsies obtained through lumpectomy (the surgical procedure to remove a cancer or non cancer breast lump with some surrounding tissues) is of interest to the cancer research agencies in order to distinguish the mechanical nature of anomalies of the taken biopsy. Despite of the importance of compressive loading and its contribution to hyperelastic characterization of tissue in 9 applications of cancer detection, few studies have focused on the behavior of tissue components in response to compression. During the introduction of the characters and setting of the story, the author characterized the old woman by expressing in his own words, She is small and sprightly, like a bantam hen; but, due to a long youthful illness, her shoulders are pitifully hunched (Capote 338). As I read this description, I can understand that the woman is elderly and delicate because of her long time illness, but throughout the story, I can see that her appearance does not reflect her temperament at all. She has a passion for adventure unlike most people her age, and it keeps her from recognizing her frail condition. 5. Buddy and his elderly female companion have a unique friendship that might seem considerably unconventional to others because of their vast age difference. Even though they are generations apart, they connect through their excitement for making fruitcake every Christmas. The elderly lady exclaims with excitement, The courthouse bell sounded so cold and clear. And there were no birds singing; they ve gone to warmer country, yes indeed. Oh, Buddy, stop stuffing biscuit and fetch our buggy. Help me find my hat. We ve thirty cakes to bake (Capote 1 2). The elderly woman enjoys sharing her fruitcake making process with her 7 year old cousin, Buddy, and Buddy enjoys the adventures he experiences when they prepare fruitcake together, hand in hand. They also have the same aura and vivacious personalities that allows them to obtain an unbreakable relationship. 6. As the short story came to an end, Buddy s best friend died of old age after their last Christmas together, but their friendship did not die along with her because it is everlasting. For their final Christmas together, they gave each other handmade kites to show their appreciation for each other. After she died, Buddy conveyed his sadness by saying, That is why, walking across a school campus on this particular December morning, I keep searching the sky. This man refers to the human person, and not just to the male. 2) God had put man through a test in naming all of creation, which in addition to revealing to man his freedom, allowed him to become aware of his difference from the rest of creation. He was also not God. Man is conscious that he belongs to the visible world as a body among different bodies, but he was self consciously in search of his identity and felt alone (another sign of self knowledge), because he was different from the rest of creation and from God. Clearly, To Kill a Mockingbird carries a constant theme of injustice through racism, unfair assumptions, and the stubbornness of man. Firstly, the novel presents injustice through racism. Harper Lee excellently portrays injustice through racism in the justice system and by rash actions. For example, when the Ewells falsely accuse African American Tom Robinson of rape, the trial clearly reveals Robinson s innocence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel characterizes this form of injustice from through hasty adults and the silly thoughts of children. For example, Scout finds herself in a quarrel with her unruly cousin Francis when he belittles her father s work, and afterwards, she says to her Uncle, Well, in the first place you never stopped to gimme a chance to tell you my side of it you just lit right into me (113). While both Francis and Scout were at fault in this situation, Scout s Uncle failed to hear both sides of the story and unfairly rebukes only Scout. Another petty, but still important, injustice results from Scout and her brother s false beliefs about Boo Radley. They assume that he is an evil person who would kill them if they set foot on his property, but discovering his kind character proves them wrong in the end. Clearly, the novel shows how injustice can spring from people s false assumptions or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the company of those most like themselves. The date is the day the deal started for Henry Ford not because the company had his name, the day all his hard work would start to payoff. To look at the deal from just one day would not do justice to the brilliant way and intertwined ways Henry Ford took the world by storm. From the start in Ford s garage to the offices of lawyers, and then on to control of the largest automotive companies in the world one can see the deal was just a key to Mr. Ford s future. To start, Henry Ford was born on a family farm during the Civil War. This is what would drive Mr. Ford; not wanting to be a farmer and wanting to work on machinery. Unsatisfied with farm work, Ford left home the following year, at the age of 16, to take an apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit. In the years that followed, he would learn to skillfully operate and service steam engines, and would also study bookkeeping. Later Henry Ford would work for the Edison Lighting Company as an engineer, later Ford would become chief engineer. Ford got a chance to meet Thomas Edison and showed Edison his plans for his first horseless carriage. This meeting would lead to a friendship that would help Ford when designing his assembly line. Nature can be one of the entities that terrifies humans the most. These disastrous tsunamis can be caused by many different situations. Geology is closely connected to the production of tsunamis and their occurrences. It is also a useful tool in identifying the causes of tsunamis in ancient times. All tsunamis are tied to rocks and minerals, which cause earthquakes. When the ocean floor moves, water is thrust upward, thus causing a tsunami. These giant waves of destruction are caused by volcanoes, earthquakes, and underwater landslides. Earthquakes are more common in the causing of tsunamis than any other cause. These deposits can often be found in lagoons just off the coastline. The sediments are fine grained. Sometimes boulders can be used to identify past tsunamis but this is not a reliable approach due to cyclones and other natural disasters having the same ability of boulder movement. These deposits help scientists to uncover the truths about the pasts and even determine the magnitude of a historical earthquake. There was an earthquake in 869 in Sendai and Honshu called the Sanriku earthquake. The scientists were able to uncover facts about the earthquake due to the sediments left behind from the resulting tsunami. The term used to describe these scientists and their profession is Palesoseismology. They look at sediments and rocks and observe them. Using the observations, they uncover the truth of ancient earthquakes in the past. This is helpful to inform people of seismic hazard and to prevent widespread damage. In the poem Sonnet 116 Shakespeare expresses his views of what love should be by explaining what it is not. He implies that it is something that is exciting from the start to the very end. This is exemplified in the lines where it says, Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks, But bears it out even to the edge of doom. Shakespeare uses personification by using the pronoun his to describe love as if it is a human that must be cared for and treated assiduously. In the very first line of the poem he speaks of marriage not only as a show of love but mainly as a spiritual bond between two souls. This is indicated by the line Let me not to the marriage of true minds. There are a number of expressive metaphors used to represent his views of love. This is made apparent in the line, Love s not Time s fool, This metaphor tells the reader that love should be everlasting as it does not play by the rules of time and never fades or dwindles. The noun fool has connotations of being playful and amusing and it is included to apprise the reader that love is not just a form of entertainment and cannot merely be used to beguile someone for a short period of time until it is unwanted. In the 1960s, Viktor Frankl observed that people twentieth century have lost meaning of purpose. He also observed that the existential vacuum was worse in the United States than in Europe or developing countries. A potential cause for this feeling of emptiness is the loss of animal instinct throughout human history. Yes, we still eat meat, but the connection of what it means for one life (the cow, for example), to give up that life so that another (the human) may live, is lost. Where once people had respect for the food they ate and understood the life sustenance that made food so important, now it means nothing. There is no understanding to how food reacts with our bodies. The only understanding is that when you feel hunger, you want to eat. And food is readily available, so it is no big deal. Likewise, the connection to clothes has become how they make you look when wearing them, rather than the appreciation of how they are made. Humans used to be awed by something so simple as the sun rising every day, after disappearing the night before. Storms were something to be feared. A successful hunt was something to show appreciation for, as was a successful harvest. People developed religion to worship the aforementioned gods and/or the Supreme Being. The expression of faith was an integral part of society. However, again mostly in the last century, even faith has been eroding.
