Streptococcus Pyogenes is More than Strep Throat Essay
Streptococcus Pyogenes: More than Strep Throat
S. pyogenes infections may vary from mild to life threatening with a plethora of symptoms due to the
many types of infections it causes. This bacterium is responsible for the diseases of pharyngitis,
rheumatic fever, impetigo, erysipelas, cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis, acute poststreptococcal
glomerulonephritis, and toxic shock syndrome, just to name a few. Each of these infections has its
own unique set of symptoms as will be explored in depth below.
Streptococcus Pyogenes is a very diverse bacteria with effects ranging from nothing or a mild sore
throat, to flesh eating disease, causing death in 40 60% of patients. The major and most common
illnesses associated with this bacteria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initial diagnosis of Streptococcal pharyngitis is determined by a point system awarding 1 point for
each of the following; temperature greater than 38 C, absence of cough, tender anterior cervical lymph
nodes, tonsillar swelling, age younger than 15, subtracting a point for age older than 45. If these
symptoms are met, a rapid strep test will be performed before antibiotics are given, a precaution taken
to prevent super bugs from developing.
If a streptococcal infection such as pharyngitis or scarlet fever is left untreated, there is a small (~3%)
chance that within approximately 20 days, the patient will present with rheumatic fever. After the first
bout of rheumatic fever, if the host acquires a second untreated S. Pyogenes infection, the chance of
coming down with rheumatic fever jumps substantially to ~50%. Most often this secondary disease
will strike people aged 6 15 years old, roughly 20 days after the streptococcal infection, with a 2 5%
mortality rate. One of the major diagnostic symptoms of this disease is Erythema Marginatum, snake
or ring like eruptions covering the trunk, upper arms, and legs. Other symptoms include fever, arthritis
(elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles), swollen joints, pain in the abdomen, nodules

Positive Characteristics Of A Good Teacher
Being 19 and graduated from highschool I ve had my fair share of good and bad teachers. I feel like
the main 4 effective characteristics of a teacher are, a good communicator, a good listener, being
understandable, and having good sense of humor. Being a good communicator plays a huge role into
being an effective teacher. Many students will have tons of questions, and you re not able to answer
those questions in an effective way then you re setting your kid up for failure. Also, being able to
communicate doesn t just mean being able to talk with students, you have to also deal with parents and
be able to talk with on a professional level. Being able to communicate is one of the top things a
teacher should have down and ready to go once school starts. Being a good listener to me, shows that
you actually care what the student have to say. In my past I ve teachers who didn t even bother to care
what I said, so I took that as disrespect and why should I show you respect if it s not coming back the
other way? As a teacher you have to realize students care a lot about what they tell you and they trust
you that you re listening. No, you re not going to remember every little thing a kid tells you, but at that
moment they expect you just to listen and give some type of reaction or response. With being
understandable I take it from a personal experience. When I was younger my family was going
through some things and I missed a lot of school. Once I got back the teacher didn t even

Airport Privatization 2
Airport Privatization:
Introduction:
Airport plays a key role of air transport; it has a big impact on development of economics in a country.
Freight passengers and cargo to any part of the world and it allows aircraft to land and take off. An
airport has to have a proper infrastructure, which consists of runaways, taxiways, apron, terminal for
arrival and departure of passengers, terminal for freight and ground interchange. It should have a wide
range of facilities; lounge for passengers, shops and a food court. For safety and security it has to have
an air traffic control to monitor all the incoming and outgoing flights to take off and land, security
personnel requires for baggage checks, individual screening using metal detectors, and ... Show more

In United states, commercial airports have traditionally been independent of the national control,
operated locally by local or regional authorities and highly influenced by private interests, specifically
the airlines (with enough power to decide major facets of airport management and development).
While the other degree of participation of private interests in airports differs broadly among states and
cities, major U.S. commercial airports are operated through partnerships between the government,
local interests and private firms.
The Australian airport privatization began in 1994 when the Australian government announced the
decision to sell 22 airports that were owned and operated by the Federal Airports Corporation (FAC).
Under a long term leases, airlines are responsible extends to providing and maintaining terminal
infrastructures, with the airport operator only the land for the domestic terminals that are under lease.
In other Asian countries, many major airports are expected to be privatized in the near future,
including Tokyo, Hongkong, and several airports in India. The ongoing structural reform in airport
sector has provided an opportunity for these airports seek funding from capital markets as well as
strategic investors.
Types of Privatization:
* Share flotation * Trade sale *

Analysis Of The Poem The Raven
The Raven versus Ode to a Nightingale The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is a story of a young adult who
has lost the woman he was in love with and is struggling cope. The story teller compulsorily builds
self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to him, until
he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the other hand,
John Keats Ode to a Nightingale is another interesting poem set in London, which tells the story of a
nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but remains alive. Like in
the Raven the latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary and that human beings
are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the shortcomings of the physical
environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale song sets in. As such, the poet
contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human beings in an immensely
imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including weather and natural
aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as evidenced in their
covering of the heath. Like the Raven, however, Ode to a nightingale shares the theme of human
mortality, spirituality and kindness, and isolation among the bereaved.
Form
Poe s The Raven is made up of eighteen six line verses with seamlessly emphatic rhythm and rhymes.

We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American...
This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism
means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their
very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society.
After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been
emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American
Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. We are a church transformed by
grace, connected through relationships and committed to service is their mission statement and as is
everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding
the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must
say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building
for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important
for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first
thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical.
To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics
when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or

Synthesis Essay On The Catcher In The Rye
Certain things, they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those
big glass cases and just leave them alone. In the novel ,Catcher in the Rye ,by J.D Salinger, Holden
Caulfield a teenage boy has a love for innocence or children and things staying the same. He has no
real idea of what will become of him and no one gives him the answer or even listens to him. This
novel is relevant to today s teenagers because people always try to tell us what we should do or
become but people can never tell you the answer or what you are going to become in the future that is
for you to figure out yourself. Also if you depend on others to tell you what you should do or be your

Change is inevitable, but Holden wants to defy just that although he can t. Holden states that, The best
thing, though, about the museum was that everything always stayed right where it was. Nobody d
move. Holden enjoyed everything staying how it was and not changing for him. If everything stayed
the same he would not have to worry about what would become of me or what would happen in the
future, he could just reminisce on the past and all the children would stay safe. This relates to me
because although going to college seems fun the idea of moving on and people I know growing up and
changing is scary and leaves uncertainty but if everything stayed the same there s nothing to fear.
To sum up the Catcher and the rye was a novel about a lost teen that ran away from school looking for
answers. He was caught up in wanting everything to stay the same and saving innocence. This novel is
relevant because it gives insight on a teen although fictional that is having a hard time figuring out his
future and most teens do. He looks at his elders and peers to find answers, but no one ever hears him
and neither can they give him the answer, although he can see what he wants to be it does not really
exist in real life but in his dreams or

Baseball Club History
The history of baseball in the United States can be traced to the 18th century, when amateurs played a
baseball like game by their own informal rules using improvised equipment. The popularity of the
sport inspired the semipro national baseball clubs in the 1860s.
The earliest known mention of baseball in the U.S was a 1791 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, ordinance
banning the playing of the game within 80 yards of the town meeting house. In 1903, a British
sportswriter Henry Chadwick published an article speculating that baseball derived from a British
game called rounders. The first team to play baseball under modern rules were the New York
Knickerbockers. The club was founded on September 23, 1845, as a social club for the upper middle
classes of New York City, and was strictly amateur until it disbanded. The club members, which
included its president Doc Adams and Alexander Cartwright, formulated the Knickerbocker Rules,
which in large part dealt with organizational matters but which also laid out rules for playing the
game. Among the rules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NABBP split into two groups. The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players
operated from 1871 through 1875, and is considered by some to have been the first major league. Its
amateur counterpart disappeared after only a few years. William Hulbert s National League, which
was formed after the National Association proved ineffective, put its emphasis on clubs and not
players . Clubs now had the ability to enforce player contracts, preventing players from jumping to
higher paying clubs. Clubs in turn were required to play their full schedule of games, and not
forfeiting scheduled games once out of the running for the league championship, as happened often
under the National Association. A concerted effort was made to cut the amount of gambling on games
which was leaving the validity of results in

Marginalia Billy Collins Summary
In the poem Marginalia , by Billy Collins takes a look at the marginal notes written in books. The
marginal notes are seen as a communication between the reader and the words in the book. The note
sometimes can be negative because they are a way of releasing frustration with the work, especially if
not well received, but sometimes they are a way of celebrating on the work. [The narrator asserts
students to join the conversation with author s words by writing marginal notes; however, one may say
it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly, it prevents one from
understanding the text.]
Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. They are,
Sometimes the notes are ferocious, (Collins) when the narrator refers to ferocious, This implies that
the previous owner wrote comments in discontent. When the notes symbolize discontent they prove to
be a distraction because people instead of focusing on the text will start reading the comments
therefore getting disoriented and not focusing the text. When he refers , If i could just get my hands on
you, Kierkegaard or Conor Cruise O Brien this implies he could be doing something better than
reading their works. It also means, as the new reader sees the text may see their writings on the margin
and wonder why the previous owner wrote that and may get lost or impede him from understanding
and acknowledging the text and interpret the text from the actual meaning.

Mexican Devaluation Of The Mexican Peso Crisis Essay
There are several factors involving the Mexican government which led to the Mexican Peso Crisis.
The argument has been whether sound monetary, fiscal and exchange rate policies could have
prevented the crisis or foreign intervention was inviable to control the crisis because of the effect to
the global community. The purpose of this paper is to show that it was the policies of the Mexican
government that caused the devaluation of the peso and thus the ensuing Mexican Peso Crisis. The
1994 Mexican Peso Crisis was a relatively short crisis. The economic policies of the Mexican
government needs reviewing before going into the devaluation of the peso and the crisis itself. The
President before the Mexican Peso crisis was Carlos Salinas during his administration Mexico
continued a series of reform started by previous administrations in which they restructured their
foreign debt, reduced their inflation rate, cut trade barriers and privatized various government
institutions. Mexico had reduced tariffs on imports and stabilized their inflation rate because of their
exchange rate policies. The deregulation or lack of proper regulation and changes in their monetary
and fiscal policy can have a great effect on a countries economy. The beginnings of the problem
started when Mexico privatized their banks. Privatization is when a country divests itself of the
ownership and operation of a business venture by turning it over to the free market system (Eun,
Resnick 14).

The Pros And Cons Of Gestational Surrogacy And Egg Donation
Gestational surrogacy and egg donation are largely unregulated in the United States because of the
way the issues were approached. To explain, because surrogacy and egg donations were seen as a
means for providing children to those who cannot have any of their own, the procedure was seen as
medicine. As it is seen as medicine, the cases were treated as individual agreements between the
patient and doctor. Because this was not an experimentation, there was no need for the procedure to go
through the IRB. Hence, no regulation. Furthermore, regulating surrogacy was on the state level and
many states did not outlaw it. In addition, because there was no public funding for surrogacy and egg
donation, it shifted over to the private sector. The US federal government allowed this to happen in
order to maintain reproductive/consumer rights. This shift made it much more common and
unregulated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the child. In the case of Baby M, the surrogate mother did not want to give up the child after she

question of the embryo being a person or property arose. In both instances, informed consent made the

Cause Concussions In Soccer
The game of soccer requires many crucial aspects to fully understand and control the game to where
you can shine your brightest, however, with the banning of heading the ball, it may delay your
progress. With the new US soccer guidelines on heading the soccer ball being banned from being
taught till the age of 14, it seems to be quite ridiculous. From being friends with many who play
soccer and to having entire family members coming from a background of play soccer and heading in
balls, it may come to be a shock. Many of the best soccer players in the world such as Cristiano
Ronaldo and Lionel Messi started playing at such a young age and went through the many mechanics
that go forth with soccer including heading which have contributed heavily towards their careers.
Though heading in soccer may cause concussions at certain times, it doesn t conclude the fact that a
significant amount of concussions are caused by the physicality of the sport. Soccer is a contact sport
which entails for a concussion to occur at a type of dynamic. I believe that heading in soccer should
not be banned due to the reasons of the physicality that is involved in soccer and as well as heading
not being the major indication of concussions during play and as well as chances of getting a
concussion through heading the ball. The world of soccer is an immense sport with millions of fans
and athletes that are all over the playing this interesting game, however, what if you take away

White Man s Burden Imperialism
Views on Imperialism
Imperialism is the extension of a nation s authority by territorial acquisitions or by the establishment
of economic and political dominance over other nations (American Heritage Dictionary). Both
Imperialists and Anti Imperialists in the late nineteeth century published arguments for or against the
justification of Westerners civilizing less advanced peoples. Western societies Imperialist motives
were to further their own economic and political standings. Humanitarianism outreach and Social
Darwinism were excuses to assert Western dominance. British writer, Rudyard Kipling s poem The
White Man s Burden aimed to persuade Europeans why they could and should civilize primitive non
white people; British Parliament and anti imperialist, Henry Labouchere responds with his own poem,

He supported the imperialist aim that, Westerners shouldered the responsibility for governing and
converting the supposed savages under charge and strove to remake them superior European models
(Mckay, 809). The hope was that these primitive nonwhite people would eventually benefit from
imperialism and modern achievements and higher levels of living (Mckay, 810). The white man s
burden was to send forth the best yet breed the brightest white men to go over to these under
performing primitive countries and work hard at converting and modernizing theses evil and immature
people Kipling refers to as, Half devil and half child (Mckay et al., 810). Kipling s poem makes a case
for imperialism by telling the Europeans it is their moral obligation. It was a burden because the task
would it be easy. The nonwhites will not be open to new ways and the Europeans will have weariness
and the hate of those ye guard (Mckay, 810). This hate for imperialism is very evident in Henry

two years removed from college and, subsequently, placed in charge of the Retirement Division. Two
months later, he was jointly promoted to business development manager. Due to James inexperience

Subsequently as a leader in the organization, James experienced problems from employees due to the
lack of power and influence in his unstructured role within the organization and mistakes made in his
immature leadership approach.
The problems from employees persisted due to James lack of power and influence in the organization
as a leader. According to Bethel University (2011), leaders who can reward and punish followers may
have a greater capacity to influence followers than those leaders who cannot use rewards or
punishments (p. 107). As a leader and manager in the organization, James acceded to two management
positions offered by vice president of marketing, Eric Johnson, without any clarity of his legitimate,
reward, and coercive powers. Collectively, these powers would have revealed James authority of
position, ability to influence with rewards, and the ability to influence others with disciplinary action
(Bethel University, 2011). James powers and position in the organization was realized when he asked
Eric for a part time secretary. And, even more, when he became infuriated with a supervisor after
asking her subordinates (two clerks) for administrative assistance without prior approval. The
supervisor refused to assist and impolitely questioned his ability to perform his duties and stated, ...it
is your job, causing James to report the situation to Eric (Bethel University, 2011, p. 144).

Digital and Medical Imaging
The Cox Maze
Dr. James Cox developed a procedure called the Cox maze in 1987, that has changed from the cut and
sew surgical procedure, where there were several cuts made to create a maze, to a use of surgical
ablation technology, where ablation lesions are put with different energy sources such as
radiofrequency, cryothermy, microwave, and high frequency ultrasound. Therefore, this course of
action has evolved from a median sternotomy choice to one that can be done minimally, invasively,
and robotically. (Henry, 2013)
NDS Surgical Imaging
The ability to correctly visualize the surgical site is needed in minimally invasive surgery (MIS). NDS
Surgical Imaging can provide the most advanced and understood surgical imaging products that help
single, multiple, or full modality imaging when being fully compliant for medical use in surgery. An
imaging system that provides exceptional image quality, clarity, consistency, performance, and
ergonomic design is NDSsi s imaging. They override today s surgical markets and they are considered
industry standard for digital OR. NDSsi created and operated deep technologies that enable surgical

Essay On Mutation
Spontaneous mutations occur during a normal cell process creating genetic changes (text p.206).
There are varying types of spontaneous mutations including, silent, missense, nonsense, and
frameshift mutations. How are these mutations the same and how are they different? Silent, missense,
and nonsense mutations all occur when base substitutions happen (text p.206). A base substitution is
when the wrong nucleotide is incorporated during DNA synthesis, this is the most common mutation
(lecture). In a silent mutation a base substitution occurs, incorporating an incorrect nucleotide, the
result is a codon that codes for an amino acid that is the same as the wild type (text p. 206). In a
missense mutation, the resulting mutant codon does not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These mutations are ones that often produce stop codons, putting a halt to the creation of the protein
with shortened amino acid sequences. They may also generate proteins that do not function. By simply
adding a single nucleotide you alter the coding outcomes of the remaining nucleotides down the
sequence. If one were to insert a sequence of three nucleotides, they would be inserting a complete
amino acid. Because of this, there is a higher likelihood that the sequence of three nucleotides would
simple produce a new amino acid, rather than a stop codon, unless it itself was a stop codon. This
creation of a new amino acid to the sequence would elongating the genetic sequence and continue to
produce a functioning protein while allowing the remaining gene sequence to remain the same.

Arthur Miller s Life And Worst Times
Arthur Miller lived through some of the best and worst times in United States history. Born in the
middle of World War 1, the American economy was booming and the standard of living had increased
throughout The United States. Arthur Asher Miller was born on 17 October 1915, in New York City;
the second child of Augusta and Isidore Miller (Abbotson 1). Miller had two siblings, composed of an
older brother and a younger sister. Miller s mother was a teacher at a public school and his father was

He focused mainly on sports, specifically football, as well as spending as much time as he could with
his friends. The year before he entered high school, 1929, the great depression hit The United States in
full force. Miller slowly recognized the changes that were occurring in The United States as the
depression seeped its roots deeper and deeper into the American government, economy, and people.
Shortly Miller could see the depression affecting his own family. As the family finances tightened,
they were forced to move to smaller premises. Augusta Miller sold or pawned all of her jewelry, lost
her piano, and began to resent her husband... (Abbotson 3). After graduating high school Miller
applied to both Cornell University and The University of Michigan. Unfortunately neither of them
accepted Miller due to his poor performance in high school. He applied one more time to Michigan
and they offered him reconsideration, if Miller could acquire statements from his high school teacher.
These affirmations had to show that in Miller s senior year he showed some progress as a student.
Miller realized that the odds would not be in his favor and that his teachers were not going to write
good things about his academic achievement in his last year of high school. So Miller began working
at his father s garment company. However, Miller soon loathed working there. After a few months

Southern Kingdom Causes
INTRODUCTION
The Southern Kingdom is said to have been exiled by the Babylonians. In this essay one would seek to
focus on tracing the causes that led to the exile of the Southern kingdom. But before I begin, I would
explain, first how the divided kingdom came about? Second what the Southern Kingdom here means?
Third what an exile is and what led to the causes of the exile of southern kingdom? And finally the
Conclusion.
First, the Divided Kingdom. From studies, the Old Testament and other sources have it that not long
after the reign of Saul, David, and Solomon the Kingdom of Israel was divided into two kingdoms.
Despite warnings from many prophets, both kingdoms repeatedly turn from God. The Divided
Kingdom, of the South and North, period follows the continuing story of Scripture in the books of 1
Kings (chapters 11 22) and 2 Kings. And this period is recounted in three acts: the division of the
kingdom, the resulting northern kingdom (which takes Israel ), and the resulting southern kingdom
(which takes the name Judah. ). Assyria and Babylon force the divided kingdoms into exile. Jerusalem
and the Temple are destroyed.
Second, the Southern Kingdom. The Southern Kingdom (Judah) is one of the divided kingdom after
the reign of King Solomon s United Kingdom ruled by king Rehoboam. According to J. T. Stevenson
(2000), the Southern Kingdom begins with the promise of kingship from the line of Judah, which had
a long tradition, going back all the way to the prophecy of

Comparison Of Ilyich Tchaikovsky s Pyotr Tchaikovsky ...
Pyotr (Peter) Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer from the Romantic period whose works
included ballets, operas, and symphonies with a few concertos (Poznansky). Like many stars of today,
not only was his work scrutinized under the public eye but so also was his private life. As he struggled
to bring fame to his name through his music, he later would struggle to hide his sexual affairs, which
may have played a part in his death.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born May 7, 1840, in Kamsko votkinsk, Russia. He was born to Ilya
Petrovich Tchaikovsky and Alexandra Andreyevna d Assier and was the second child of six. From an
early age Pyotr Tchaikovsky could remember complex melodies, but could not study music because of

He was then offered lodging and support for five years if he agreed to serve as a professor at the
Moscow Conservatory (Harmon). He worked there until he decided to resign due to rumors of his
sexuality. He was able to do so because of his benefactress, Madame von Meck. Because Madame von
Meck was such a wealthy investor, Tchaikovsky was able to devote himself to composition and travel
freely, but only under the condition that they never meet (Taruskin). He wrote his 4th symphony
dedicated to Von Meck, which he was able to conduct without fear. Before, he feared that he would
lose his head while conducting and would often use his left hand to hold his head in place. His first
official commission was for writing the overture for the marriage of Tsarevich Alexander and Princess
Dagmar of Denmark. This was the kick start to Tchaikovsky s career. (Harmon) Tchaikovsky began
composing music while he was still a student under Rubinstein. His first piece was the Anastasia Valse
. His first official opera was completed in 1864, called, The Storm , which was admittedly torn to
shreds by his professor. Tchaikovsky s symphonies have no trace of development, but a succession of
repetitions and a sequence of climatic runs (Harmon). The symphonies are also described as purely
romantic , (Abraham). Tchaikovsky stated that he stuck to the outline, but manipulated the details
freely and that it was difficult for him to grasp the form of symphony. He

Organic Farming Essay
Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a
reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the
Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple
centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began
seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also
happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones
today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the
agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for
how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the
United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that
industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial
farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more
difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we
harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present
Spencer 2 a way to honor the lives that are taken away from animals. As Pollan says, Farming is not

Heavy seasonal rain in rural areas has led to an increase of nutrient loads, from the topsoil into the
waterways. This can result in high concentrations of certain chemicals modifying aquatic plants,

death of trout fish, which could either be due to the fertiliser or the pH of the stormwater. The main
chemicals found in most fertilizer are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, known collectively as

the nutrition of the plant. However, the surrounding farms used a fertiliser rich in ammonium, sulphate

De-Extinction Research Paper
The Ethics of De Extinction
The concept of bringing a species back to life after it has gone extinct has been around for years. The
idea that dinosaurs will roam the earth again has fascinated mankind since the first dinosaur fossils
were first put together. Pop culture has even glorified this idea in a variety of books and movies made
about the topic, such as the famous Jurassic Park trilogy. In science fiction, there are many ideas
people have about brining the extinct back to life. Some of these theories have a grain of truth to it,
but today, the idea of bringing back a species is no longer science fiction, but will likely be possible in
the near future. This process is called De Extinction. The most recent developments in genetic

Scientists in 2009 attempted to clone an extinct species of wild goat, the Pyrenean Ibex, otherwise
known as the bucardo. After many attempts, one surrogate goat mother became pregnant and gave
birth. Unfortunately, the babe died in just moments after birth. However this cloning took place only
seven years after the cloning of dolly the sheep in 2002, the first successfully cloned mammal. Making
the jump from cloning being impossible to nearly reviving a dead species just seven years later shows
proof how quickly this incredible technology is advances. It has now been over a decade since the
cloning of the bucardo, and the technology available now would very likely produce a healthy clone.
The only question now is, should we? Some in favor of de extinction argue for the possible medical
benefits that could be learned by furthering research in this field. Most pharmaceutical drugs are not
made from scratch, but instead derived from natural compounds found in wild plants, or animals.
Innumerable species have gone extinct before science even had to opportunity to attempt to research
them. Bringing species back gives us the unique opportunity to study these species of plants and
animals to learn from

Thank you, Jessica replied, rubbing her eyes trying to clear the dust out of them. But what happened to
the rest? Where are my brother and sister?
Holt tried not to look worried, Do not fret child, I am sure that they are safe on the other side of this,

Character Analysis Of The Cube Directed By Vincenzo Natali
Cube directed by Vincenzo Natali is a science fiction horror film revolving around people trying to
escape a cube made up of different rooms with traps. Out of the seven characters in the movie, there is
only one who is disabled. Kazan, who has autism, is only a supporting character within the movie. The
main character is able bodied which is typical in the media, with main characters rarely having
disabilities (Thomson, 1997). Kazan is not introduced until twenty five minutes into the movie, and
once he is introduced not everyone is welcoming and willing to accept him into their group solely
because of his autism. Before the other characters find Kazan, they all want to work together as a
team. Once they find Kazan, this mentality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Cube, the other characters essentially view themselves as being Kazan s caregivers and his presence
is a burden. The characters thinking that Kazan needs someone to take care of him also touches upon a
common stereotype used in media, the juvenilization of adults with disabilities (Baglieri Shapiro,
2012). Quentin told the character, Worth, that his job was to be a baby sitter and look after Kazan.
Using the term baby sitter in reference to Kazan, who is an adult, further adds to his juvenilization. No
other character needed a baby sitter, which shows that they do not view him as being equal to them.
Kazan s survival before the other characters baby sat him is questioned, which presents an ableist
belief. The character, Leaven, being shocked and asking how Kazan survived showed that she only
viewed Kazan in terms of his disability. No other character was questioned on how they still survived,
but since Kazan has autism the group cannot fathom how he had not died yet. This is clear ableism,
with the group believing that them being non disabled makes them superior to Kazan (Baglieri
Shapiro, 2012). The characters only focused on Kazan s autism and did not want to know anything
else about him. Every other character was questioned on what they did for a living, why they thought
they were trapped in the cube, and what they could possibly contribute to the group. Background

How Is Pecola Portrayed In The Bluest Eye
The Girl Who Seeked Attention The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison focuses on a main character in the
story, Pecola. Pecola is an 11 year old girl with a growing hatred for herself. Pecola is known as the
ugly girl. She has black skin and very dark hair, even her mother calls her ugly. She has suffered her
entire life being tormented by everyone except her two friends Frieda and Claudia. After being hurt so
many times, Pecola never fights back. She never fights back because she hopes in some way she will
gain attention from it. For as much as people hurt her, she is more than willing to forgive and forget.
Maybe one time, instead of someone hurting her, they will be there to comfort her and tell her she is
beautiful. Pecola is always the victim. There are many scenes in the story that show how Pecola gets
hurt and never fights back. One example in particular is when Jr. invites Pecola inside his house and
offers her a kitten. Pecola knows Jr. is never up to any good but goes against her better judgment and
decides to go inside anyways. She decides to go inside because it s someone who is giving her

Power Of Story Analysis
Wk2 The Power of Story Response
Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from generation
to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history.
I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and
uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were
exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult
times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition.
Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a
comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and
non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding
information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically.
Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify with. I
know I can because I have personally experienced being restless, reckless, wretched, and wanting to

to lose one s humanity, but Kumagae still retained his empathy and realizes that he has no choice,

society, as caring for others is an important task. Additionally, throughout each version of the story
one object remains prevalent, which is Atsumori s flute. The image and sound of the flute is tranquil,
perhaps going along with the notion that though Atsumori was a warrior, he also was a gentle person.

Imagery And Diction In Shakespeare s Sonnet 138
The Sonnet 138 is a poem by William Shakespeare. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and
diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques,
Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine.
Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws
out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be white, why
then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying
that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. When the speaker describes her
breast as dun, he portrays them as dull and brownish. If the speaker has a mistress, would it not be
with someone who he finds beautiful; someone whose eyes do shine like the sun and has breast as
beautiful as the snow? Describing her features as the opposite of these characteristics build the reader

However, they do not actually realize the importance of practicing it in daily life.
On top of that, financial problems also contribute to the students misbehavior. Due to lack of money,
some students steal other students money or belonging . There have been many cases of money being
stolen and bags with new books lost too. Although they can be categorized as underprivileged
students, this does not give them the right to steal other peoples money and things. They should

Apart from that, peer pressure is definitely one of the reasons why students are involved in

  • 2. Streptococcus Pyogenes is More than Strep Throat Essay Streptococcus Pyogenes: More than Strep Throat S. pyogenes infections may vary from mild to life threatening with a plethora of symptoms due to the many types of infections it causes. This bacterium is responsible for the diseases of pharyngitis, rheumatic fever, impetigo, erysipelas, cellulitis, necrotizing fasciitis, acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis, and toxic shock syndrome, just to name a few. Each of these infections has its own unique set of symptoms as will be explored in depth below. Streptococcus Pyogenes is a very diverse bacteria with effects ranging from nothing or a mild sore throat, to flesh eating disease, causing death in 40 60% of patients. Initial diagnosis of Streptococcal pharyngitis is determined by a point system awarding 1 point for each of the following; temperature greater than 38 C, absence of cough, tender anterior cervical lymph nodes, tonsillar swelling, age younger than 15, subtracting a point for age older than 45. If these symptoms are met, a rapid strep test will be performed before antibiotics are given, a precaution taken to prevent super bugs from developing. If a streptococcal infection such as pharyngitis or scarlet fever is left untreated, there is a small (~3%) chance that within approximately 20 days, the patient will present with rheumatic fever. After the first bout of rheumatic fever, if the host acquires a second untreated S. Pyogenes infection, the chance of coming down with rheumatic fever jumps substantially to ~50%. Most often this secondary disease will strike people aged 6 15 years old, roughly 20 days after the streptococcal infection, with a 2 5% mortality rate. One of the major diagnostic symptoms of this disease is Erythema Marginatum, snake or ring like eruptions covering the trunk, upper arms, and legs. Other symptoms include fever, arthritis (elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles), swollen joints, pain in the abdomen, nodules ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Positive Characteristics Of A Good Teacher Being 19 and graduated from highschool I ve had my fair share of good and bad teachers. I feel like the main 4 effective characteristics of a teacher are, a good communicator, a good listener, being understandable, and having good sense of humor. Being a good communicator plays a huge role into being an effective teacher. Many students will have tons of questions, and you re not able to answer those questions in an effective way then you re setting your kid up for failure. Also, being able to communicate doesn t just mean being able to talk with students, you have to also deal with parents and be able to talk with on a professional level. Being able to communicate is one of the top things a teacher should have down and ready to go once school starts. Being a good listener to me, shows that you actually care what the student have to say. In my past I ve teachers who didn t even bother to care what I said, so I took that as disrespect and why should I show you respect if it s not coming back the other way? As a teacher you have to realize students care a lot about what they tell you and they trust you that you re listening. No, you re not going to remember every little thing a kid tells you, but at that moment they expect you just to listen and give some type of reaction or response. With being understandable I take it from a personal experience. When I was younger my family was going through some things and I missed a lot of school. Once I got back the teacher didn t even ... • 5. Analysis Of The Poem The Raven The Raven versus Ode to a Nightingale The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is a story of a young adult who has lost the woman he was in love with and is struggling cope. The story teller compulsorily builds self destructive understanding of his mourning in a raven s constant Nevermore reminder to him, until he eventually gives up about being reconnected with Lenore in the new world. On the other hand, John Keats Ode to a Nightingale is another interesting poem set in London, which tells the story of a nightingale that undergoes pain and suffering caused by a loss of human life but remains alive. Like in the Raven the latter the poem demonstrates clearly that pleasure is temporary and that human beings are mortal (Fogle 81). In the literary piece, Keats envisages the shortcomings of the physical environment and considers his own life gone when the nightingale song sets in. As such, the poet contrasts between the eternal nightingale and temporal life of human beings in an immensely imaginative way that integrates the primary factors affecting life including weather and natural aesthetics such as flower. Weather rejuvenates the power of the nightingales as evidenced in their covering of the heath. Like the Raven, however, Ode to a nightingale shares the theme of human mortality, spirituality and kindness, and isolation among the bereaved. Form Poe s The Raven is made up of eighteen six line verses with seamlessly emphatic rhythm and rhymes. Using I narration to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American... This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their very presence in many of our modern day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a bohemian or ... Baseball Club History The history of baseball in the United States can be traced to the 18th century, when amateurs played a baseball like game by their own informal rules using improvised equipment. The popularity of the sport inspired the semipro national baseball clubs in the 1860s. The earliest known mention of baseball in the U.S was a 1791 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, ordinance banning the playing of the game within 80 yards of the town meeting house. In 1903, a British sportswriter Henry Chadwick published an article speculating that baseball derived from a British game called rounders. The first team to play baseball under modern rules were the New York Knickerbockers. The club was founded on September 23, 1845, as a social club for the upper middle classes of New York City, and was strictly amateur until it disbanded. [The narrator asserts students to join the conversation with author s words by writing marginal notes; however, one may say it proves to be a distraction, It causes readers to pre judge a book and lastly, it prevents one from understanding the text.] Marginal notes can be viewed as distractions to new owners of passing down texts. The argument has been whether sound monetary, fiscal and exchange rate policies could have prevented the crisis or foreign intervention was inviable to control the crisis because of the effect to the global community. The purpose of this paper is to show that it was the policies of the Mexican government that caused the devaluation of the peso and thus the ensuing Mexican Peso Crisis. The 1994 Mexican Peso Crisis was a relatively short crisis. The economic policies of the Mexican government needs reviewing before going into the devaluation of the peso and the crisis itself. The President before the Mexican Peso crisis was Carlos Salinas during his administration Mexico continued a series of reform started by previous administrations in which they restructured their foreign debt, reduced their inflation rate, cut trade barriers and privatized various government institutions. Mexico had reduced tariffs on imports and stabilized their inflation rate because of their exchange rate policies. The deregulation or lack of proper regulation and changes in their monetary and fiscal policy can have a great effect on a countries economy. The beginnings of the problem started when Mexico privatized their banks. To explain, because surrogacy and egg donations were seen as a means for providing children to those who cannot have any of their own, the procedure was seen as medicine. As it is seen as medicine, the cases were treated as individual agreements between the patient and doctor. Because this was not an experimentation, there was no need for the procedure to go through the IRB. Hence, no regulation. Furthermore, regulating surrogacy was on the state level and many states did not outlaw it. A base substitution is when the wrong nucleotide is incorporated during DNA synthesis, this is the most common mutation (lecture). These mutations are ones that often produce stop codons, putting a halt to the creation of the protein with shortened amino acid sequences. They may also generate proteins that do not function. By simply adding a single nucleotide you alter the coding outcomes of the remaining nucleotides down the sequence. If one were to insert a sequence of three nucleotides, they would be inserting a complete amino acid. Because of this, there is a higher likelihood that the sequence of three nucleotides would simple produce a new amino acid, rather than a stop codon, unless it itself was a stop codon. This creation of a new amino acid to the sequence would elongating the genetic sequence and continue to produce a functioning protein while allowing the remaining gene sequence to remain the same. The idea that dinosaurs will roam the earth again has fascinated mankind since the first dinosaur fossils were first put together. Pop culture has even glorified this idea in a variety of books and movies made about the topic, such as the famous Jurassic Park trilogy. In science fiction, there are many ideas people have about brining the extinct back to life. Some of these theories have a grain of truth to it, but today, the idea of bringing back a species is no longer science fiction, but will likely be possible in the near future. After many attempts, one surrogate goat mother became pregnant and gave birth. Unfortunately, the babe died in just moments after birth. However this cloning took place only seven years after the cloning of dolly the sheep in 2002, the first successfully cloned mammal. Making the jump from cloning being impossible to nearly reviving a dead species just seven years later shows proof how quickly this incredible technology is advances. It has now been over a decade since the cloning of the bucardo, and the technology available now would very likely produce a healthy clone. The only question now is, should we? Some in favor of de extinction argue for the possible medical benefits that could be learned by furthering research in this field. Most pharmaceutical drugs are not made from scratch, but instead derived from natural compounds found in wild plants, or animals. Innumerable species have gone extinct before science even had to opportunity to attempt to research them. Character Analysis Of The Cube Directed By Vincenzo Natali Cube directed by Vincenzo Natali is a science fiction horror film revolving around people trying to escape a cube made up of different rooms with traps. Out of the seven characters in the movie, there is only one who is disabled. Kazan, who has autism, is only a supporting character within the movie. The main character is able bodied which is typical in the media, with main characters rarely having disabilities (Thomson, 1997). In Cube, the other characters essentially view themselves as being Kazan s caregivers and his presence is a burden. The characters thinking that Kazan needs someone to take care of him also touches upon a common stereotype used in media, the juvenilization of adults with disabilities (Baglieri Shapiro, 2012). Quentin told the character, Worth, that his job was to be a baby sitter and look after Kazan. Using the term baby sitter in reference to Kazan, who is an adult, further adds to his juvenilization. No other character needed a baby sitter, which shows that they do not view him as being equal to them. Kazan s survival before the other characters baby sat him is questioned, which presents an ableist belief. The character, Leaven, being shocked and asking how Kazan survived showed that she only viewed Kazan in terms of his disability. No other character was questioned on how they still survived, but since Kazan has autism the group cannot fathom how he had not died yet. This is clear ableism, with the group believing that them being non disabled makes them superior to Kazan (Baglieri Shapiro, 2012). The characters only focused on Kazan s autism and did not want to know anything else about him. Every other character was questioned on what they did for a living, why they thought they were trapped in the cube, and what they could possibly contribute to the group. • 36. Power Of Story Analysis Wk2 The Power of Story Response Story telling from the beginning of time has been a past time that has been carried on from generation to generation. The Talmud is known for the many stories told in the Jewish history. I remember my childhood years going down south during summer vacations. My grandparents and uncles and aunts would sit around at sundown and tell stories about our family history. Some were exaggerated and funny, but for the most part, I learned about how they overcame extremely difficult times and how to persevere in the face of heavy opposition. Storytelling has proven to be extremely important in helping to create, first and foremost, a comfortable atmosphere for learning. In order for Christian education to be effective, a conducive and non threatening atmosphere must be created rather than an atmosphere that consists of force feeding information or slamming information down students throats dogmatically. Today, our pastor preached on the prodigal son. This is a story that most people can identify with. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques, Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine. Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. In the film, Waiting for Superman, director Davis Guggenheim claims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards for all students.
