College Stress Are college students under stress? Wait, what is stress? Stress is considered a mental or
emotional strain or tension that comes from very demanding circumstances. School, relationship,
family, finances and job related stress are examples of some of the stressors that college students
commonly face. According to author Micheal F. Shaughnessy, one of the biggest stressors for college
students is school related. The transition for a freshman student moving away from home for the first
time can be stressful especially if it is their first time away from home or if they move to another state
where they do not know anyone. Student may have trouble managing school, work and managing

Research Methodology For Research Design
3.1 Introduction
This chapter presents the research methodology employed in this thesis in respect of the research
objectives by ensuring the application of the appropriate methodology. Among other things the
research design, population, sampling procedures and sample size, data collection technique and
research instrument were discussed. Finally, the data analysis and research limitations were looked at.
.
3.2 Research design
Research design constitutes the entire strategy for data collection including the specific data analysis
techniques or methods the researcher intends to use. Three major approaches are mostly considered by
researcher during research methodology. These are quantitative, qualitative or mixed approaches.
However, Ghauri et al. (1995) maintained that quantitative and qualitative methods are two types of
research methods mostly used by researchers.
According to Bryman Bell (2007), the quantitative method entails systematic empirical studies which
involve quantifying through the assistance of mathematics and statistics. Data is collected and
transformed into numbers which are empirically tested to see if a relationship can be found in order to
be able to draw conclusions from the results gained. On the other hand, qualitative research does not
rely on statistics or numbers rather qualitative research often refers to case studies where the collection
of information can be received from a few studying objects.
According to Biggam (2008) quantitative

Castaway Movie Analysis-Journeys
Castaway , directed by Robert Zemeckis, is a 2001 film starring Tom Hanks. Hanks stars as Chuck
Noland, a FedEx delivery man whose life is headed in the right direction , until his plane crashes and
he is stranded on an island. He must adapt to his new life on the island; overcoming many obstacles in
order to survive. Castaway explores three different journeys; physical, inner and imaginative. Chuck
Noland is a filmic representation of the philosophy of time equals money equals fulfilment. Zemeckis
is deliberate in his obvious manipulation of the responder as he uses a multitude of filmic techniques
to create a connection between the audience and Chuck. The physical journey in Castaway is Chuck s
struggle to survive all the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His determination and faith serve to evoke optimism within the responder and it gives them hope that
Chuck will continue to survive until he gets off the island. The impact time has on his life is also
evident when he is admonishing FedEx employees. He states We live or we die by the clock. Never
allow ourselves to commit the sin of losing track of time. He says the same thing to the volleyball,
Wilson, when he is planning their escape off the island. The context of when he says it changes the
meaning of this quote. The first time it is said he is passionately trying to get workers to be more
efficient and the quote is an exaggeration. The second time Chuck makes this remark, death is actually
a serious option. Although the timing of his escape is important to him, time is not what is driving him
anymore, instead his desire to get back to Kelly. The volleyball, Wilson, becomes Chuck s only
companion on the island. Wilson is Chuck s need for companionship personified. Wilson is a part of
Chuck as Wilson s face is made of his blood and is the physical manifestation of Chuck s mental state.
I know you. Chuck repeats to Wilson and this signifies that Chuck is aware that Wilson is a part of
him while demonstrating Chuck trying to reassure himself of who he is. When Wilson is lost at sea,
Chuck is devastated at losing his friend and one of the only things kept him sane on the island. Chuck
s palpable anguish evokes sympathy and grief within the responder.

Informative Speech On Mental Block
Topic: Mental Block
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the way to overcome mental block.
Central Idea : Mental block can be overcome by L.O.V.E which is L is for limit your association with
negative people, O is for Once more, V is for visualization, and E is for enthusiasm.
1. Introduction
a. Mental is one of the key of success.
b. A human with stronger mentality will dare to do anything, not afraid to try and make a failure as a
challenge that must be faced with great enthusiasm.
c. Mental block is an inability to recall some specific thing or perform some mental action.
d. People, who have mental blocks, will feel depressed, fearful, insecure and nervous to do anything
that it deems incompatible with them.
e. The goal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
if you want to reach a goal, you must see the reaching in your own mind before you actually arrive at
your goal Zig Ziglar
d. E for enthusiasm.
You must love your work and be confidence in everything that you do.
If you did not love what you do, you will not feel excited to do your work. So there is no existence of
enthusiasm.
One of the ways to get your enthusiasm is from reading an inspirational book.
Reading helps your brain to develop new ideas and perspectives on various topics.
If you are caught up in a mental block takes time to just read something, even if it s completely
random to create inspiration on your emotion.
Once you got an inspiration, you will be enthusiastic to do your work and it will help to overcome
mental block because you love what you do.
3. Conclusion.
a. Today I have explained to you about the ways to overcome mental block by using L.O.V.E.
b. Toss out those blocks! Toss out the bad and let in the good.
c. So, do feel good about yourself and change your way of thoughts.
d. You deserve to live in the world with your own ways as long as your ways are the positive one.

Criteria For A Nobel Prize
Criteria for a Nobel Prize in Leadership Alan Weber (2009) wrote an article for the Washington Post,
that focused on the criteria that one might use to suggest a nominee. In his article, Weber offered that
candidacy for the prize should not be base upon achievement broadly defined, or abstract qualities that
can be attributed to leaders, but clear and undeniable moral authority (Weber, 2009, para.1). Cook
(2009) added that he would choose a nominee who has pretty much transcended his or her own ego,
and who sees humanity as interconnected in a vast system to which we all, ultimately, are contributing
(Cook, 2009, para.4). While these points provide a good starting point for selection the development
of selection criteria, I have demined that any individual who would be a candidate for a Nobel Prize in
Pauline Leadership should be characterized by the following the following:
Demonstrated Christ Centered Core Values
Unwavering Sense of Mission and Purpose
Alignment of Character, Ethics, and Actions (Bradberry Greaves, 2012)
Servant Orientation
Leads by Example
Humility
Self Discipline (Lee, 2003)
Equipping or Developing Others (Lee, 2003)
Lasting Concern for the Broader Community

American Eviction
The consequences of this hunger were disastrous. People died in their houses, in the countryside of
fever, hunger and diseases.
It is estimated that between 1.000.000 and 1.500.000 people died, most of them, poor.
Because of the famine, Landlords seeing that the poor tenants could not pay their rents, evicted many
of them of their homes. Without food and house, they were in the hands of charity or the government.
This eviction was the death sentence for the great majority.
During each year of the Hunger, thousands of Irish migrated, fistly, to the bigger cities in Ireland, and
then to Britain, North America ands Australia, places where they were not welcomed.
Many Irish who settled in America, bored a hatred feeling for the policies of England

Milkweed Research Paper
Milkweed in the Garden Common milkweed, asclepia syricia, is favorite choice among monarch
butterflies for host plants to their larvae because of its low toxicity. Because milkweed spreads from
runners deep underground, it needs a lot of surface warmth to trigger growth, so it does best as a first
emergent or in recently mowed fields where light and heat can reach the soil. Because of this,
common milkweed does not perform well in home landscaping. The cool shade offered by broad,
leafy perennials inhibit the germination of milkweed. Since landscaped gardens are not cut back in the
summer, the milkweed does not get the needed sunlight to send up late shoots for the summer and fall
monarch population. I have chosen to include green and purple milkweed for my front gardens.
Benefits. The primary benefit for growing milkweed is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

we have a space in the orchard where I dump mountains of weeds every year. Leaves are mulched
slightly with the lawnmower and dumped on various areas and winter protection, and manure either
spread warm in the pasture or piled for use as composted material the following season. With five
acres, it is difficult to look at a composting project as practical when it comes to adding different types
of materials. My main pile is in the orchard. The manure is disposed of only a few feet away, but
inaccessible because of fencing. Many sources recommended a compost pile be layers of specific
materials. Brown material, such as dead leaves, shredded newspaper, and dead flowers is the base
layer. Green waste such as grass clippings, kitchen waste, and manure are the next layer. Finally add a
layer of garden soil. This should all be at least three foot by three foot high, which needs to be watered

The Forms Of Birth Control In The 19th Century
For thousands of years forms of birth control have been around. People have fought for hundreds of
years to make birth control available to all women. Birth control was banned at point in the United
Sates. According to the authors at Wikipedia.org, Contraception was not restricted by the law in the
United States throughout most of the 19th century, but in the 1870s a social purity movement grew in
strength, aimed at outlawing vice in general, and prostitution and obscenity in particular. Composed
primarily of Protestant moral reformers and middle class women, the Victorian era campaign also
attacked contraception, which was viewed as an immoral practice that promoted prostitution and
venereal disease. The earliest forms of birth control was reported around 3000 B.C. Condoms were
made from fish bladders, linen sheaths, and even animal intestines. In the 1500 s, the first spermicides,
chemicals that kill sperm, were used to kill spermatozoa. The first condoms were made from linen
cloth sheaths and soaked in chemical solution and dried before using. In 1838, condoms and
diaphragms were made from vulcanized rubber. A diaphragm is a shallow, bendable cup that you put
inside your vagina. It covers your cervix during sex to prevent pregnancy. In 1873, the Comstock Act
passed in the United States prohibiting advertisements, information, and distribution of birth control
and allowing the postal service to confiscate birth control sold through the mail. In 1916, Margaret

The Feminist Theory And The Labeling Theory
Throughout the world, deviant acts and social controls are committed everyday. An incredibly
significant one that is often unreported is sexual assault within the military. Sexual assault is already
determined as an extremely deviant act throughout the world. All acts of rape and other abusive acts
should never be dismissed or ignored, but rape within the military is often not reported or recognized.
If it is brought to light, the victims are generally in fear of losing their positions, rankings, homes,
relationships with their spouses and families, etc.... This is not to state that men are not also victims of
sexual assault, but women are much more prone and vulnerable to being attacked and harassed. I will
be focusing on the female victims of military assault in this paper.
There are two theories that I have applied to this deviant act. The Feminist theory and the Labeling
theory both have attributes that are applied to sexual assault within the military. The Feminist theory
focuses on the equality between men and women, and the labeling theory discusses the stigma of
giving titles to those due to certain appearances, actions, etc... I have also found some solutions that
could aid in bringing light and helping victims be more comfortable with reporting attacks. These
solutions would involve creating safe zones within the military base for victims, although the entire
base should feel safe for soldiers, but due to the issue then a space should be provided for those who

Essay about The Physic of Paintball
The Physic of Paintball
I.The Fundamentals of the Game of Paintball.
Paintball is a sport that is still fairly new in the world being not much more that a decade old. This
game as with other sports would not be possible without physics. Physics is essential to the game of
paintball. Some of physics that are involved in paintball are pressurized gas, projectile motion, and the
impulse of being hit by a paintball.
As with all sports there is necessary equipment needed to play. The most important piece of equipment
would be the paintball gun often called a marker. The marker uses compressed carbon dioxide to
propel the .68 caliber paintballs. Small carbon dioxide tanks are connected to the paintball markers the
tanks vary in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pressure caused by gases and gases being placed under pressure is used in our everyday life. Without
the use of gases we would be unable to fly in airplanes, play basketball or even have carbonated
drinks. Gases exert pressure on any surface with which they come in contact, because gas molecules
are constantly in motion. We humans have adapted so well psychologically to the pressure of the air
around us that we are usually unaware of it (Chang 155). The equation often used to measure the
pressure of gases is the ideal gas equation P=nRT/V. Where P is the pressure of the gas in atm, n is the
number of moles of gas, R is the proportionality constant (0.0821 L*atm) T is the temperature in
Kelvin of the gas, and V is the volume the gas occupies (Chang 160).
The gas used with paintball in is pressurized carbon dioxide. The gas is under high pressure in small
cylinders. The high pressure is created by forcing large amounts of gas into a finite area. According to
the equation given above the more gas forced into a restricted volume the pressure will increase.
III.Projectile Motion of Paintballs.
Projectile motion plays a valuable role while playing paintball. Unlike shooting a real gun a paintball
can be seen throughout its entire flight. They are big enough and slow enough to be seen easily. When
a paintball is shot it comes out of the barrel moving at 250 to 300 feet per second, and unfortunately is
easily affected by wind and air resistance.

this we are deeply sorry. This ad will never be used again. Diversity and equal opportunity are crucial
values of our company. The team advertising group which was responsible for this particular ad was
the Chicago Advertising agency DraftFCB. This particular team, as there is tons over every part of the
country, had no diversity in the group. They were all of Caucasian race and in their mid early 30 s. To
them, as to many others it didn t reflect any racism, where it had to leave to such a big disappointment
to the society. The reason for this is because there is also another similar ad to the racist one, but it
shows a white model in the Ad. The one featuring a white model reads, Sin city isn t a excuse to look
like hell. To be fair, Nivea in this other ad asks white men to look like you give a damn, which
features a guy in a suit holding the similarly severed head of another guy with shaggy hair and a full
beard. But in contrast that ad has and says nothing about re civilization. The message there seems to

Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh
Description
The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp
contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly
portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth
seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and
eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is
portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of
his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression.
Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard.
The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard
catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work
of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally,
the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting.
However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached
expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of
home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Microstrip Antennas
i23
2.7 Advantages Disadvantages
Microstrip antennas are low profile, conformable to planar and non planar surfaces, simple and
inexpensive to manufacture using modem printed circuit technology, mechanically robust and
compatible with MMIC designs. When the particular patch shape and mode are selected they are very
versatile in terms of resonant frequency, polarization, pattern and impedance. In addition by adding
loads between the patch and the ground plane, such as pins and varactor diodes. adaptive elements
with variable resonant frequency, impedance, polarization and pattern can be designed. Since it is of
planar structure, it has all the advantages of printed circuit technology. The major operational
disadvantages of microstrip antennas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The microstrip feed line is easy to fabricate, simple to match by controlling the inset position and
rather simple to model. However as the substrate thickness increases, surface waves and spurious feed
radiation increase, which for practical designs limit the bandwidth.
2.8.2 Coaxial feed
In this type, the inner conductor of the coaxial cable is attached to the patch while the outer conductor
is connected to the ground plane. This is the widely used type of feeding. The coaxial probe feed is
also easy to fabricate and match, and it has low spurious radiation. However, it also has narrow
bandwidth and it is more difficult to model, especially for thick substrates (h 0.02 1.0). 2.6.3 Aperture
coupling: The aperture coupling of is the most difficult of all four to fabricate and it also has narrow
bandwidth. However, it is somewhat easier to model and has moderate spurious radiation. The
aperture coupling consists of two substrates separated by a ground plane. On the bottom side of the
lower substrate there is a microstrip feedline whose energy is coupled to the patch through a slot on
the ground plane separating the two

Gender In Sports Psychology
No, I m sorry but we re currently not accepting any new members for the wrestling team. A wave of
anger flushed through my body as I rolled my eyes and walked away. I was angry because I knew then
that my high school coach lied in front of my face, when only ten minutes before I arrived the coach
gave one of my male friends an application to join the wrestling co ed team. However, I was not
surprised by the outcome. Wrestling is predominantly a male sport, so not many women took forward
to joining the wrestling team. Society expects females and male to adopt and fulfil in certain gender
roles and expectations. Males are expected to be strong and athletic while women are expected to be
weak, passive, and nurturers. At an early age children adopt a sense of what is gender appropriate of
them to engage in, whether in a sport or activity. Their theory of what is gender appropriate is
followed throughout their childhood to when they are matured. Based off the theory of what is
appropriate of a female to engage in, males tend to reject the idea of women being capable of doing
activities the opposite gender could do. It was stereotypical of the coach to deny my request to join the
wrestling team due to the fact that he judged me based on my gender, and was oblivious to what skills

When gender equality in sports is denied, it most likely decreases a woman s interest in breaking the

females from joining most male dominated sports such as football, or wrestling. They ve accepted and

Verse 11 Annotations
Verse 11 Verse eleven only contains four Greek words Παράγγελλε ταῦτα καὶ δίδασκε meaning
command these things and teach. Paul once again is encouraging Timothy to stand strong to his
beliefs: he must continue to teach true accurate doctrine and command his opponents to turn away
from their heresy teachings. Παράγγελλε means to command this is a term of authority usually
referring to military or judicial order. Since this is such a strong word it is appropriate to think that it
must be directed against the heresies. When salvation is at stake authoritative leadership can be
appropriate and necessary. Paul is emphasizing to direct the heretics away from the false teachings by
teaching them the actual truth. Verse 12 Paul wants Timothy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The verse also contains information to let the readers of the epistle thousand years later to know
important information of Timothy s life. Paul starts by referring back to the spiritual gift that Timothy
received prior. It is believed that the gift was a spiritual endowment from the Holy Spirit. To neglect
the gift from the Holy Spirit would hinder Timothy s spiritual effectiveness. Two things happened
when Timothy received his gift, he had utterance of a divine prophetic word, and had the elders lay
hands on him. The Greek preposition in verse fourteen show that the laying of hands accompanied the
receiving of the spiritual gift. The verse also makes it clear that it was not through the laying of hands
that the gift was received, but through the prophetic message. It should be noted that there were no
evidence of Timothy being ordained by the laying of hands. In Paul s day there was no evidence that
the laying of hands caused ordination. Verse 15 This verse is somewhat vague but it referring to the

What Is The Dystopia In Watchmen
In this paper I argue that Alan Moore s Watchmen uses its dystopia to critique the selfish nature of
humanity that abandons morals to achieve one s goals and a society that trusts superheroes without
legal and moral authority to oversee their power. By depicting each superhero s violent actions and
their moral decisions, it criticizes the consequentialist s argument that the end justifies the means .
Watchmen features superheroes that are normal humans who don t possess super powers except Dr.
Manhattan and struggling for their moral standings from their past. After Adrian Veidt destroys the
half of New York, he asks, I did the right thing, didn t I? . Although other characters do not directly

Among the superheroes, Rorschach and Adrian Veidt act on consequentialism. To bring justice,
Rorschach brutally punishes criminals. Breaking fingers is a common method that Rorschach uses on
criminals and he wrongly uses violence on Moloch to investigate the case of the murder of the
Comedian. Similar to Rorschach, Adrian Veidt s decision to blow up the half of New York is to
achieve the peace between the US and the Soviet Union. Watchmen s dystopia infers whether
sacrificing is necessary to form a peaceful society. It asks how much sacrifice is morally acceptable to
achieve peace and the each masked heroes have different opinions on the issue.
Watchmen s dystopia not only criticizes anarchy like structure that lacks the rule of law, but also it
criticizes the authority figure of the society. By showing the actions of the watchmen who acts as the
guardians of America, it dismisses the idea of existence of morally right or wrong actions. Each
watchman s perspective of humanity is different. Their difference of philosophy affects their decision
making differently. Each watchman represents different values in the society and it is important to
examine their role in order to analyze what Watchmen s dystopia is

Nymph s Spinster
Sylvia Plath s Spinster was effective in presenting its view that love is unrealistic, however, Sir Walter
Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd was more direct. Sylvia Plath s sixains and uneven
lines contradicted the speaker s view that love is disorderly. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd
followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why love is
incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. Through tone, symbolism, imagery, and worldview Sir
Walter Raleigh manages to present the Nymph s attitude toward love in a artistic and effective way.

The shepherd presents the nymph with flowers, shoes, and beds of roses to persuade her, but they fail
to meet the nymph s conditions, All these in me no means can move (Raleigh 19). The gifts can t
move her because with time the shepherd s gifts would, Soon break, soon wither (Raleigh 16). The
gifts are no use to the nymph as an immortal being. The symbolism in Spinster is similar to Raleigh s
because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or winter. The speaker in
Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because, Only idiots/Reel giddy in

spring and refers to a bird s song as Irregular babel (Plath 5). The speaker prefers winter (isolation)
because everything is in its order and there is discipline that helps the speaker feel in control (Plath
13,14,17). Imagery in the Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd helps reinforce the speaker s view that love
is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do fade portrays how the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph
only last for a short period of time. The gifts are a symbol of the shepherd s love, therefore the
shepherd s love will also fade. The promise of love is unrealistic because the shepherd believes that

A Meeting At The Bilderberg Conference
Would it be a surprise to discover that a meeting is held every year whose guest list comprises of
business moguls, political leaders, military generals, and innovative aficionados? Each year a meeting
is held and elites from Europe and the United States discuss major current national and world issues.
This meeting is known as the Bilderberg Conference and is so private that the location is moved every
year and only those who are on the guest list are allowed to attend. Bilderberg Group began in 1954 in

multiplicity of the 140 delegates that attended in 2013. It s apparent that the group is influential and in
a way essential for American s and Western Europeans to catch up with each other on a wide range of
subject matters. But how did Bilderberg come to be? Initiative was first taken by Polish political
advisor Josef Retinger (who also helped with the formation of the European Union) with assistance
from Paul Rijkens, President of Unilever. Support from a company like Unilever was significant
because it is one of the top European capitalist companies and one of the largest and most powerful
multinational corporations in the world. These two contacted Prince Bernard of the Netherlands
pitching this idea of unification with United States and made sure to get him on board. There were a
few events that lead to the creation of the first Bilderberg meeting, these events act as a domino effect
to one another. First, Prince Bernhard leaves his country (with intentions of spreading this idea of
unification) to visit his old friend in America Walter

Rhetorical Devices Used In Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, was first published in 1850. It was set in a harsh Puritan
community in Massachusetts during the seventeenth century. Hawthorne was of Puritan descent and
researched the community. The focus of his novel is based on the adulteress act of Hester Prynne and
how she was treated by her community. The novel is known for it s abundance of rhetorical and
literary devices, and was one of the first novels to effectively use them. Hawthorne uses rhetorical
devices to portray his views and thoughts about the community. One device Hawthorne uses is irony.
Specifically, dramatic, situational, and verbal irony. Hawthorne s use of irony is employed to show the

Hawthorne was able to show the true intentions and feelings of characters and the relationships
between characters. He did this because he wanted the readers to understand that the Puritan society
was not as religious or great as it is sometimes portrayed as. Even though their intentions were right
with wanting to start a new religious society in the New World, they had their faults. Hawthorne is
able to address these through the use of ironies. For example, having the reverend that everyone looks
up to and emulates, be suffering from committing a very sinful act. Also, having the townspeople
contradict the meaning of the scarlet A, and see it as a positive thing after Hester has just endured the
torture of isolation and banishment. Overall, Hawthorne is trying to express his personal views on the
Puritan society through the use of

fact that the company specializes basically in the production of the khaki made men s pants makes it a

hand, this property proves to some extent as the challenge facing the organization in many ways. The
fact that they principally specialize in the production of a specific product results into the situation
whereby they are seen to be discriminative with their production. The products offered by the

The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment...
identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social
environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions.
In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a
print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the
enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system
which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the
development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas
printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these
cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever.
In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite.
The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the
thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence
of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment
allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. The spread of rationalism in turn
encouraged the use of rational discourse amongst the common people,

Objective Theory of Contracts
The four elements of a valid contract are offer and acceptance, meeting of the minds, consideration
and competent parties. The contract must cover a legal purpose or objective as well (Binder, 2012).
The objective theory of contracts holds that contract formation is dependent on what is communicated,
rather than what is thought by one of the parties (Barnes, 2008).
The Pepsi Harrier case (Leonard v. PepsiCo) is an example of a situation where the four elements of a
contract are simply not met. Advertisements in general constitute an invitation to treat, rather than an
offer. Therefore, Leonard was not able to accept the offer, because the offer never existed. As such, the
basic elements of a contract were not present in their entirety, meaning that no contract existed
between Pepsi and the Seattle man.
The objective theory of contracts is relevant to this case, because there was a clear difference between
what Pepsi was thinking and what Leonard was thinking. Each had their own view of what the
advertisement constituted, and it is from these differing views that the contract dispute arose. The
judge in this situation must use the objective theory to decide the case. This means that the case can
only rest on what has actually been communicated between the two parties. In this case, Pepsi has an
advertisement that discusses its promotion. The promotion describes a bargain in which a customer
presents Pepsi with points and Pepsi allows the customer to redeem those points

The Business Environment Of Nigeria And Norway Essay
Question 1The concept of Business EnvironmentBusiness environment can be understood as the
combination of all environmental conditions and influences that are capable of affecting or influencing
business activities. According to Anyanwu et al (1996) defines the environment of business as the
aggregation of the pattern of all the external and internal conditions and influences that affect the
existence, growth and development of the business. Opportunities and threats may be associated with
external environment while the strengths and weakness may be associated with internal environment
of the business (Audu, 2010a).In this paper, we will compare the business environment of two
countries namely: Nigeria and Norway. The reason for choosing these two countries include the fact
that both are part of the top ten net oil exporting nations for which hydrocarbon exports account for

16 bit processors. The year 1989 saw the leap from 8 bit to 16 bit consoles with NEC s TurboGrafx 16
and Sega s Genesis 16, both of which featured six channel stereo sound. The 16 bit processing chip
offered by Sega could process two times as much data per cycle as the earlier 8 bit processors.
Additionally, it included an 8 bit processor solely for sound. Combined, this resulted in a clearer, fuller
sound; larger, more detailed games; better developed characters; complex graphics; and faster action.
Finally, home video game systems could compete with the performance features of the much larger
coin operated arcade games. With this increase in technology, Sega was able to surpass the Nintendo

The 32 and 64 bit Game Systems. From 1993 through 2000, the video game industry jumped from 16

classification of bit numbers became less important due to the fact that performance now depended on
increasingly important factors such as processor clock speed, bandwidth and memory size. However,
there were benefits to be gained from the 64 bit upgrade. Enhanced speed and memory allowed games
to render more realistic collisions, lifelike simulations of graphics and real time multi channel audio

Her connection with wild nature (both the real, uncultivated nature and the man s sphere in society
without protection), which is a major and substantial characteristic of Diana that shows her mystical
power, is shown in the story by the impressions she left on Archer. He thought that at a unpruned
garden, the tumbledown house, and the oak grove under which the dusk was gathering seems to be so
exactly the place in which he ought to have found Madame Olenska (103). When he founds her alone
in the publicity, he asked her But what on earth are you doing in this wilderness (105)? Archer s
mentioning of the oak grove is another specific clue that leads to the identity of Diana, as she is
actually queen of the woods in general and also goddess of the oaks in particular (Frazer, II, 380).
Ellen s first name as the shortened version of Helen might also be an allusion to Diana, who is also
known as Helen of the Tree (Frazer, V, 292). Besides, working in concert with May s marriage with
Archer around Easter, the mutual confession of Countess Olenska and Archer takes place in middle of
August, when Diana s own day is celebrated (Frazer, I, 12 14) (Scheick, 3). Moreover, the term flower
of life with a little bit of ambiguity and inexplicability kind of resembles the term heart of life she used

Theodor Herzl s Influence On Judaism
Theodor Herzl was a Jewish poet who pushed not only for the acceptance of his Jewish community,
but also for a homeland for the Jews in the Middle Eastern Palestinian area. He wrote about the
injustices he witnessed, and used his writings as a way to share his opinions. His support for the Israeli
side of the conflict was a direct result of his Jewish upbringing and ethnic background. His writings
were colored with his views and beliefs about the rights of the Jewish people. He greatly impacted the

emphasis on the character of Morgaine, otherwise known as Morgan Le

The original full retelling of the Arthur story, Monmouth s The History of the
Kings of Britain, has few female characters. Morgan Le Fay is once such decided absence.
Not only does she play no part whatsoever in the legend, but she is never even mentioned.
Mordred, who is often her son by an incestuous relationship with Arthur, is instead the son of Anna
and her husband, Loth, the King of Lothian. Anna is as close as Monmouth gets to a Morgan like
character. She is the sister of Arthur, and daughter of Igraine and Uther.
She gives birth to Mordred, who is the means by which Arthur s death comes about, and
Gawain, one of Arthurs most loyal and trusted knights. Le Morte D Arthur by Malory shows an
entirely different perspective as to the role and person of Morgan Le Fay in the Arthurian legend. She
is one of Arthur s three sisters, the others being Morgause and Elaine. Morgause marries King Lot of
Lothian and has four sons including Gawaine while Elaine marries King Nentis. Arthur has an

Rhetorical Analysis 1
The critical article Video games can never be art was written by Roger Ebert, who was a famous
American film critic. Ebert was a very popular and well celebrated journalist and film critic in his
field. He was the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, which is the highest honor in
journalism (rogerebert.com and Wikipedia). This article is about Roger Ebert s critical analysis of
Kellee Santiago, a professional video game designer, presentation about video games as already being
a form of art. Roger Ebert is bias towards art given the fact that two of his definitions of what art

because the fact would still remain that, they are the same, despite whether people chose to eat bird

it is in games, but you can tell they exist because of the outcome difference between a good artist and

busy season, your hours can be bumped up from 45 hours a week to 55 to 80 hours a week (Career

you would like but accounting is a fast paced and time sensitive occupation and things need to be done
by a certain deadline (Career Explorer, 2012). In accounting, you need to have good social skills

Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Essay
In Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, many of the characters face expectations for their roles as Native
Americans and as women on their reservation. One of these characters is Lulu, who experiences
shaming because of her traditionalist view of Chippewa life and relationships with many men. She is
continually fueled by a love and passion that guides her to contradict these expectations, often quite
directly, even in the face of community gossip. Throughout the novel, Lulu defies expectations about
Native Americans and her expected role as a woman, especially in relationships. This can be seen in
her reactions to the government s appropriation of their land, against the community s shaming of her
for her many romantic relationships, and ability to lead her family although she is expected to lose
control over her many children. Lulu Lamartine actively fights against the government s appropriation
of Native American land, disagreeing with the idea that it will improve their life and the expectation
that Native Americans will be grateful for the sale. Lulu s ideas about the importance of living on their
own land were first influenced by her family as a young adult. For example, she is told to sing my
songs and then bury me high in a tree, Lulu, where I can see my enemies approach in the government
cars (71). The United States government intervention in the lives of Native Americans is a continued
point of tension throughout her life. Lulu has a distinct distrust of the United

In James Rachels’ Book, The Elements Of Moral Philosophy,
In James Rachels book, The Elements of Moral Philosophy, he explains many things in the ninth
chapter. He made statement about philosopher who decided the absolute moral rules. It explains in the
beginning, there s no definite answer for moral rules. Again, it s about belief, cultural, tradition etc.
Truman decision of dropping the bomb created conflict, some disagree and others agree. Categorical
imperative and hypothetical imperative are explained with Kant s conceptive on lying. His argument
about lying is back with universal law. There s conflict among Kant s argument, there might be
situation where lying might be necessary. Kant believe in responsibility of telling the truth but not the
lie.
In summary, in this chapter, Rachels uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because I think everyone had lie once in their lives or even a white lie. Cops can lie about being a cop
to should a crime. An example was lying is necessary. Was it necessary for Truman to drop the bomb?
Other wars and conflict had been won without dropping any bombs. Is there any correct form of moral
rules?
I read three quotes that caught my attention. Note that moral judgement must be backed by good
reasons if it true that you ought (or might not) to do such and such, then there must be a reason why
you should (or should not) do it, (Rachels and Rachels pg.135) Moral judgement is classified in good
reasons only. If a good reason is provided than it s okay to do it. The idea that moral rules have no
exception is hard to defend, (Rachels and Rachels pg.129) Moral rules are different in many ways, so
little can influence the outcome. At first Truman was reluctant to use the new weapon. (Rachel and
Rachel pg. 126) So, Truman didn t like the idea of killing off people who were innocent. But with
desperate measure, he made his mind up and agree.
There are many things I found relatable in the ninth chapter. Per Kant, lying is wrong and shouldn t be
done. I know there s many bad things in this world, but people still do it. I know my diet isn t the best
and my exercise effort isn t that good either. Being healthy is overall a great challenge. Living in
America, there s countless people who don t follow such a healthy lifestyle. My family tries living a

A Hurricane Research Paper
A hurricane is a tropical storm with very violent winds. It moves in a rotational circle. I have only
actually seen a hurricane on tv and in books. I know they have them in a lot of tv shows. The eye of
the hurricane is the middle part which is the most calm. The eyewall is the outside, which is the most
dangerous part of the hurricane. Wind is when the air moves. The Saffir simpson scale is a scale used
to find how bad a hurricane is. A hurricane watch is a warning to everyone in the area that wind is a
high speed. A hurricane is formed over warm water. The warm water helps carry it to land, because it
is like food. Water vapor makes the clouds that can rain so it will be an actual storm. They form just
over the equator. When the

Reflective Role As A Senior Support Worker
My role as senior support worker is to work alongside management to provide an effective service to
vulnerable adults with mental health living in the community; it is important to offer professional
leadership and positive team work skills. At the beginning of my employment as a senior support
worker in mental health there was minimal knowledge and experience in supporting vulnerable adults
within this specific area, however CQC fundamental standards which everyone in health and social
care can expect remain transferable. Please find attached an example of how the remaining 12
fundamental standards have also been expressed throughout my experience as senior support worker
whilst evidence is shown on a day to day basis. As my previous role was a team leader it was essential
that the skills learnt previously were carried into my new role and enhanced to be able to provide the
best service possible. Person centred care is vital to providing support to suit an individual s needs; I
have implemented this when doing the into care plans, I sat with citizens to go through their support
package which can increase the understanding of a citizens involvement in their support so that their
needs are met; additionally as a senior a person centred approach is also used when supporting staff
with their professional development, it is about the inclusion of staff to meet their targets and aims
making them appropriate and realistic to the individual. Once this technique is embedding into

Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism into Action
All of the Christian teachings on racism have originally started from the teachings of the scripture. It
is because of this that Christians are aware that they have a responsibility to bring peace and
reconciliation. However not all Christians take up this responsibility, maybe this is due to the fact that
most people today go with the majority and rarely speak out as an individual.
Some people however have stood up for themselves and spoken out in an attempt to gain justice
without using violent methods to prove their points, they are known as Christian Pacifists. There are
many well known Christian Pacifists, such as Martin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boycott came to an end on 20th December 1956.
For Martin Luther King, this was just the beginning of a succession of non violent protests against the
discrimination and prejudice of black people.
Desmond Tutu is an Anglican Archbishop in South Africa, and a Civil Rights Leader. He also
responded to racism using pacifism.
One of Desmond Tutu s most famous quotes was: I am puzzled about which Bible people are reading
when they suggest religion and politics don t mix . He knew that God was political; this was because
when God rescued the slaved from Egypt he led them to freedom in the Promised Land.
Politics have lead in the past to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, and when this
happened the prophet s spoke out, so Christians today should test government policies against
Christian teaching.
Like Desmond Tutu, Trevor Huddleston also stated that Christianity was totally opposed to the system
in South Africa: Christina s are not only commanded to love. We are commanded to hate what is evil,
and nothing is more evil than apartheid . Trevor Huddleston and Desmond Tutu had been friends ever
since Desmond Tutu was a small child. Desmond Tutu was impressed by the way that Trevor
Huddleston would life his hat up to his mother, as it was almost unheard of for a

An Influential And Rewarding Field
The nursing profession has evolved tremendously over the years. Although we often work as a part of
a health care team, as nurses, our role is so critical to the clients we serve that it cannot be replaced by
any other team member. We are constantly striving to expand our capabilities, either through formal
education or years of experience. We are fortunate enough to be part of an influential and rewarding
field that enables us to impact the lives of a diverse community on a physical, mental, and emotion
level. Nursing provides me with the ability to make a profound difference in the life of another human
being, their family, and friends. Nurses must not only use the knowledge base we obtained through
formal education, as we also must use our emotions and morals when caring for clients. Over the years
of working in mental health, I have learned to excel under pressure due to the understanding that one
minute may not be the same as the next. This has given me the tools needed to evaluate situations
under stress and make final decisions based on acuity. Effective communication is another strong
quality of mine. Not only is it important that I advocate for and communicate with clients through
both verbal and non verbal communication, but it is also an essential part of working well within the
multidisciplinary team. Being detail oriented and organized are also key components in my career. In
my current leadership role, I provide exceptional hands on patient care as well as

Euripides As A Tragic Tragedy
The Big Three of Greek tragedy has always been Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. As a late
comer to the stage of tragedy in comparison to the others, Euripides formed his reputation by building
off the works of others. For instance, in Hekabe, Euripides incorporated already known characters and
concepts from The Orestia written by Aeschylus. Despite the fact that Euripides appears to build off
the work of others, Aristotle honors him with the title of the most tragic playwright. Euripides stood
out by using a novel structure for tragedy. In a typical tragedy, the protagonist is the central character
in the play and an antagonist brings about the suffering and downfall of the protagonist, which the
audience is supposed to pity. Euripides breaks from this archaic model by producing tragedies without
a clear antagonist. Without this pivotal character role, the play is able to take on a more tragic persona.
Aristotle expresses his thoughts about tragedy in his book Poetics. In the chapter titled The Best Kinds
of Tragic Plot, Aristotle dives into how a plot should be structured (page 20, Poetics). Aristotle
believes a simplistic plot structure using common households is best (page 20, Poetics). He uses
Euripides as an example of what to do, stating that those who criticize his work for using already
established characters are making a mistake. Euripides utilizes the audience s background knowledge
of his characters to his advantage. He is able to embellish his plays by alluding to references already
known to the audience to further the plot. For example, in Hekabe, during the sacrifice of Polyxena
there were parallels to the sacrifice of Agamemnon s daughter Iphigenia. This detail in the play builds
Agamemnon s character without going off on a long anecdote about his past. Aristotle believed that
despite Euripides s incorporation of already established characters, it was the structure of his plots
which allows him to be regarded as the most tragic of poets. (page 22, Poetics). As previously stated,
Euripides distinguishes himself from other playwrights by embracing a unique style of having unclear
antagonistic roles. His play Hekabe is a perfect example because the antagonistic role is obscure. The

  • 2. Stressors For College Students Tonya Gallamore Mr. Walk HYPER 110 30 August 2016 College Stress Are college students under stress? Wait, what is stress? Stress is considered a mental or emotional strain or tension that comes from very demanding circumstances. School, relationship, family, finances and job related stress are examples of some of the stressors that college students commonly face. According to author Micheal F. Shaughnessy, one of the biggest stressors for college students is school related. The transition for a freshman student moving away from home for the first time can be stressful especially if it is their first time away from home or if they move to another state where they do not know anyone. • 3. Research Methodology For Research Design 3.1 Introduction This chapter presents the research methodology employed in this thesis in respect of the research objectives by ensuring the application of the appropriate methodology. Among other things the research design, population, sampling procedures and sample size, data collection technique and research instrument were discussed. Finally, the data analysis and research limitations were looked at. . 3.2 Research design Research design constitutes the entire strategy for data collection including the specific data analysis techniques or methods the researcher intends to use. Three major approaches are mostly considered by researcher during research methodology. These are quantitative, qualitative or mixed approaches. However, Ghauri et al. (1995) maintained that quantitative and qualitative methods are two types of research methods mostly used by researchers. According to Bryman Bell (2007), the quantitative method entails systematic empirical studies which involve quantifying through the assistance of mathematics and statistics. Data is collected and transformed into numbers which are empirically tested to see if a relationship can be found in order to be able to draw conclusions from the results gained. On the other hand, qualitative research does not rely on statistics or numbers rather qualitative research often refers to case studies where the collection of information can be received from a few studying objects. • 4. Castaway Movie Analysis-Journeys Castaway , directed by Robert Zemeckis, is a 2001 film starring Tom Hanks. Hanks stars as Chuck Noland, a FedEx delivery man whose life is headed in the right direction , until his plane crashes and he is stranded on an island. He must adapt to his new life on the island; overcoming many obstacles in order to survive. Castaway explores three different journeys; physical, inner and imaginative. Chuck Noland is a filmic representation of the philosophy of time equals money equals fulfilment. Zemeckis is deliberate in his obvious manipulation of the responder as he uses a multitude of filmic techniques to create a connection between the audience and Chuck. The impact time has on his life is also evident when he is admonishing FedEx employees. He states We live or we die by the clock. Never allow ourselves to commit the sin of losing track of time. He says the same thing to the volleyball, Wilson, when he is planning their escape off the island. The context of when he says it changes the meaning of this quote. The first time it is said he is passionately trying to get workers to be more efficient and the quote is an exaggeration. The second time Chuck makes this remark, death is actually a serious option. Although the timing of his escape is important to him, time is not what is driving him anymore, instead his desire to get back to Kelly. The volleyball, Wilson, becomes Chuck s only companion on the island. Wilson is Chuck s need for companionship personified. Wilson is a part of Chuck as Wilson s face is made of his blood and is the physical manifestation of Chuck s mental state. I know you. Chuck repeats to Wilson and this signifies that Chuck is aware that Wilson is a part of him while demonstrating Chuck trying to reassure himself of who he is. When Wilson is lost at sea, Chuck is devastated at losing his friend and one of the only things kept him sane on the island. Chuck s palpable anguish evokes sympathy and grief within the responder. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Criteria For A Nobel Prize Criteria for a Nobel Prize in Leadership Alan Weber (2009) wrote an article for the Washington Post, that focused on the criteria that one might use to suggest a nominee. In his article, Weber offered that candidacy for the prize should not be base upon achievement broadly defined, or abstract qualities that can be attributed to leaders, but clear and undeniable moral authority (Weber, 2009, para.1). Cook (2009) added that he would choose a nominee who has pretty much transcended his or her own ego, and who sees humanity as interconnected in a vast system to which we all, ultimately, are contributing (Cook, 2009, para.4). While these points provide a good starting point for selection the development of selection criteria, I have demined that any individual who would be a candidate for a Nobel Prize in Pauline Leadership should be characterized by the following the following: Demonstrated Christ Centered Core Values Unwavering Sense of Mission and Purpose Alignment of Character, Ethics, and Actions (Bradberry Greaves, 2012) Servant Orientation Leads by Example Humility Self Discipline (Lee, 2003) Equipping or Developing Others (Lee, 2003) Lasting Concern for the Broader Community Influence and Impact Explanation of the First Nobel Laureate As Lutheran Pastor, it should not be a surprise that I have chosen the 16th Century Reformer Martin Luther as the first Nobel Laureate in Pauline Leadership. • 8. Milkweed Research Paper Milkweed in the Garden Common milkweed, asclepia syricia, is favorite choice among monarch butterflies for host plants to their larvae because of its low toxicity. Because milkweed spreads from runners deep underground, it needs a lot of surface warmth to trigger growth, so it does best as a first emergent or in recently mowed fields where light and heat can reach the soil. Because of this, common milkweed does not perform well in home landscaping. The cool shade offered by broad, leafy perennials inhibit the germination of milkweed. Since landscaped gardens are not cut back in the summer, the milkweed does not get the needed sunlight to send up late shoots for the summer and fall monarch population. People have fought for hundreds of years to make birth control available to all women. Birth control was banned at point in the United Sates. According to the authors at Wikipedia.org, Contraception was not restricted by the law in the United States throughout most of the 19th century, but in the 1870s a social purity movement grew in strength, aimed at outlawing vice in general, and prostitution and obscenity in particular. Composed primarily of Protestant moral reformers and middle class women, the Victorian era campaign also attacked contraception, which was viewed as an immoral practice that promoted prostitution and venereal disease. The earliest forms of birth control was reported around 3000 B.C. Condoms were made from fish bladders, linen sheaths, and even animal intestines. In the 1500 s, the first spermicides, chemicals that kill sperm, were used to kill spermatozoa. The first condoms were made from linen cloth sheaths and soaked in chemical solution and dried before using. In 1838, condoms and diaphragms were made from vulcanized rubber. A diaphragm is a shallow, bendable cup that you put inside your vagina. It covers your cervix during sex to prevent pregnancy. In 1873, the Comstock Act passed in the United States prohibiting advertisements, information, and distribution of birth control and allowing the postal service to confiscate birth control sold through the mail. • 10. The Feminist Theory And The Labeling Theory Throughout the world, deviant acts and social controls are committed everyday. An incredibly significant one that is often unreported is sexual assault within the military. Sexual assault is already determined as an extremely deviant act throughout the world. All acts of rape and other abusive acts should never be dismissed or ignored, but rape within the military is often not reported or recognized. If it is brought to light, the victims are generally in fear of losing their positions, rankings, homes, relationships with their spouses and families, etc.... This is not to state that men are not also victims of sexual assault, but women are much more prone and vulnerable to being attacked and harassed. I will be focusing on the female victims of military assault in this paper. There are two theories that I have applied to this deviant act. The Feminist theory and the Labeling theory both have attributes that are applied to sexual assault within the military. The Feminist theory focuses on the equality between men and women, and the labeling theory discusses the stigma of giving titles to those due to certain appearances, actions, etc... I have also found some solutions that could aid in bringing light and helping victims be more comfortable with reporting attacks. These solutions would involve creating safe zones within the military base for victims, although the entire base should feel safe for soldiers, but due to the issue then a space should be provided for those who are on ... Paintball is a sport that is still fairly new in the world being not much more that a decade old. This game as with other sports would not be possible without physics. Physics is essential to the game of paintball. Some of physics that are involved in paintball are pressurized gas, projectile motion, and the impulse of being hit by a paintball. As with all sports there is necessary equipment needed to play. The most important piece of equipment would be the paintball gun often called a marker. The marker uses compressed carbon dioxide to propel the .68 caliber paintballs. Small carbon dioxide tanks are connected to the paintball markers the tanks vary in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pressure caused by gases and gases being placed under pressure is used in our everyday life. Without the use of gases we would be unable to fly in airplanes, play basketball or even have carbonated drinks. Gases exert pressure on any surface with which they come in contact, because gas molecules are constantly in motion. We humans have adapted so well psychologically to the pressure of the air around us that we are usually unaware of it (Chang 155). The equation often used to measure the pressure of gases is the ideal gas equation P=nRT/V. Where P is the pressure of the gas in atm, n is the number of moles of gas, R is the proportionality constant (0.0821 L*atm) T is the temperature in Kelvin of the gas, and V is the volume the gas occupies (Chang 160). The gas used with paintball in is pressurized carbon dioxide. The gas is under high pressure in small cylinders. The high pressure is created by forcing large amounts of gas into a finite area. According to the equation given above the more gas forced into a restricted volume the pressure will increase. III.Projectile Motion of Paintballs. Projectile motion plays a valuable role while playing paintball. Unlike shooting a real gun a paintball can be seen throughout its entire flight. They are big enough and slow enough to be seen easily. When a paintball is shot it comes out of the barrel moving at 250 to 300 feet per second, and unfortunately is easily affected by wind and air resistance. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Summary Of The Mailman By Van Gogh Description The mailman pictured is painted frontally dressed in a work uniform, its formality creating a sharp contrast with the rather informal background. His expression forms a look of indifference seemingly portraying no sign of emotion. At first glance this is plausible, but after further investigation the mouth seems to be turned down at the edges. His eyes are subtly looking down, with eyelids half closed and eyebrows slightly raised. This gives the impression that rather than being indifferent, the man is portrayed being in thought. This forms a stylistic tension within the painting, between the formality of his frontal position with his uniform and the introspection shown in his facial expression. Van Gogh devises movement within the painting through the background and the mailman s beard. The beard splits into two directions, ultimately creating the illusion of a swirling motion. The beard catches the movement of the pattern in the background, echoing unity and making for a dynamic work of art. An analogous color scheme unites the different elements of the painting together. Additionally, the piping on his uniform produces a less dimensional look when compared to the rest of the painting. However, the flowers in the background bring life to the painting by contrasting with his detached expression. In particular, the background gives the impression of wall paper: establishing a feeling of home contrary to the man s identity as a mailman outside of his own home. ... Males are expected to be strong and athletic while women are expected to be weak, passive, and nurturers. At an early age children adopt a sense of what is gender appropriate of them to engage in, whether in a sport or activity. Their theory of what is gender appropriate is followed throughout their childhood to when they are matured. The Impact Of Historic Events On The Social Environment... identity can change over time in a society with the effects of historic events, changes in the social environment and the active participation of the people to create new social constructs and institutions. In order for nationalism to even start several prerequisites had to be met. These were the creation of a print system for books to be created. These books would spread the ideas of nationalism, the enlightenment and other philosophical movements across the world. Next is the capitalist system which would naturally seek to reach a larger audience and thus a larger profit margin which lead to the development of the vernacular print. Print in vernacular allowed for regular people to read the ideas printed in the books and understand them, which ultimately spread the ideas and values of these cognitive revolutions to the common man. These changes to written language changed its role forever. In the past, written language was reserved specifically for the political, intellectual, or religious elite. The religious elite especially relied on the control of the written word to control and influence the thoughts of the masses, and this was true for most, if not all religions across the world. A consequence of written language being used by the common people to spread the ideas of the enlightenment allowed for the dismantlement of the concept of rule by divine right. • 30. Objective Theory of Contracts The four elements of a valid contract are offer and acceptance, meeting of the minds, consideration and competent parties. The contract must cover a legal purpose or objective as well (Binder, 2012). The objective theory of contracts holds that contract formation is dependent on what is communicated, rather than what is thought by one of the parties (Barnes, 2008). The Pepsi Harrier case (Leonard v. PepsiCo) is an example of a situation where the four elements of a contract are simply not met. Advertisements in general constitute an invitation to treat, rather than an offer. Therefore, Leonard was not able to accept the offer, because the offer never existed. As such, the basic elements of a contract were not present in their entirety, meaning that no contract existed between Pepsi and the Seattle man. The objective theory of contracts is relevant to this case, because there was a clear difference between what Pepsi was thinking and what Leonard was thinking. Each had their own view of what the advertisement constituted, and it is from these differing views that the contract dispute arose. The judge in this situation must use the objective theory to decide the case. This means that the case can only rest on what has actually been communicated between the two parties. In this case, Pepsi has an advertisement that discusses its promotion. The promotion describes a bargain in which a customer presents Pepsi with points and Pepsi allows the customer to redeem those points ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Essay In Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, many of the characters face expectations for their roles as Native Americans and as women on their reservation. One of these characters is Lulu, who experiences shaming because of her traditionalist view of Chippewa life and relationships with many men. She is continually fueled by a love and passion that guides her to contradict these expectations, often quite directly, even in the face of community gossip. Throughout the novel, Lulu defies expectations about Native Americans and her expected role as a woman, especially in relationships. This can be seen in her reactions to the government s appropriation of their land, against the community s shaming of her for her many romantic relationships, and ability to lead her family although she is expected to lose control over her many children. Lulu Lamartine actively fights against the government s appropriation of Native American land, disagreeing with the idea that it will improve their life and the expectation that Native Americans will be grateful for the sale. Lulu s ideas about the importance of living on their own land were first influenced by her family as a young adult. For example, she is told to sing my songs and then bury me high in a tree, Lulu, where I can see my enemies approach in the government cars (71). The United States government intervention in the lives of Native Americans is a continued point of tension throughout her life. Lulu has a distinct distrust of the United ... He made statement about philosopher who decided the absolute moral rules. It explains in the beginning, there s no definite answer for moral rules. Again, it s about belief, cultural, tradition etc. Truman decision of dropping the bomb created conflict, some disagree and others agree. Categorical imperative and hypothetical imperative are explained with Kant s conceptive on lying. His argument about lying is back with universal law. Cops can lie about being a cop to should a crime. An example was lying is necessary. Was it necessary for Truman to drop the bomb? Other wars and conflict had been won without dropping any bombs. Is there any correct form of moral rules? I read three quotes that caught my attention. Note that moral judgement must be backed by good reasons if it true that you ought (or might not) to do such and such, then there must be a reason why you should (or should not) do it, (Rachels and Rachels pg.135) Moral judgement is classified in good reasons only. If a good reason is provided than it s okay to do it. The idea that moral rules have no exception is hard to defend, (Rachels and Rachels pg.129) Moral rules are different in many ways, so little can influence the outcome. At first Truman was reluctant to use the new weapon. (Rachel and Rachel pg. 126) So, Truman didn t like the idea of killing off people who were innocent. But with desperate measure, he made his mind up and agree. There are many things I found relatable in the ninth chapter. Per Kant, lying is wrong and shouldn t be done. I know there s many bad things in this world, but people still do it. I know my diet isn t the best and my exercise effort isn t that good either. Being healthy is overall a great challenge. • 46. Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism... Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism into Action All of the Christian teachings on racism have originally started from the teachings of the scripture. It is because of this that Christians are aware that they have a responsibility to bring peace and reconciliation. However not all Christians take up this responsibility, maybe this is due to the fact that most people today go with the majority and rarely speak out as an individual. Some people however have stood up for themselves and spoken out in an attempt to gain justice without using violent methods to prove their points, they are known as Christian Pacifists. There are many well known Christian Pacifists, such as Martin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The boycott came to an end on 20th December 1956. For Martin Luther King, this was just the beginning of a succession of non violent protests against the discrimination and prejudice of black people. Desmond Tutu is an Anglican Archbishop in South Africa, and a Civil Rights Leader. He also responded to racism using pacifism. One of Desmond Tutu s most famous quotes was: I am puzzled about which Bible people are reading when they suggest religion and politics don t mix . He knew that God was political; this was because when God rescued the slaved from Egypt he led them to freedom in the Promised Land. Politics have lead in the past to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, and when this happened the prophet s spoke out, so Christians today should test government policies against Christian teaching. Like Desmond Tutu, Trevor Huddleston also stated that Christianity was totally opposed to the system in South Africa: Christina s are not only commanded to love. We are commanded to hate what is evil, and nothing is more evil than apartheid . Trevor Huddleston and Desmond Tutu had been friends ever since Desmond Tutu was a small child. • 47. An Influential And Rewarding Field The nursing profession has evolved tremendously over the years. Although we often work as a part of a health care team, as nurses, our role is so critical to the clients we serve that it cannot be replaced by any other team member. We are constantly striving to expand our capabilities, either through formal education or years of experience. We are fortunate enough to be part of an influential and rewarding field that enables us to impact the lives of a diverse community on a physical, mental, and emotion level. Nursing provides me with the ability to make a profound difference in the life of another human being, their family, and friends. Nurses must not only use the knowledge base we obtained through formal education, as we also must use our emotions and morals when caring for clients. Over the years of working in mental health, I have learned to excel under pressure due to the understanding that one minute may not be the same as the next. This has given me the tools needed to evaluate situations under stress and make final decisions based on acuity. Effective communication is another strong quality of mine. Not only is it important that I advocate for and communicate with clients through both verbal and non verbal communication, but it is also an essential part of working well within the multidisciplinary team. Being detail oriented and organized are also key components in my career. In my current leadership role, I provide exceptional hands on patient care as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Euripides As A Tragic Tragedy The Big Three of Greek tragedy has always been Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides. As a late comer to the stage of tragedy in comparison to the others, Euripides formed his reputation by building off the works of others. For instance, in Hekabe, Euripides incorporated already known characters and concepts from The Orestia written by Aeschylus. Despite the fact that Euripides appears to build off the work of others, Aristotle honors him with the title of the most tragic playwright. Euripides stood out by using a novel structure for tragedy. In a typical tragedy, the protagonist is the central character in the play and an antagonist brings about the suffering and downfall of the protagonist, which the audience is supposed to pity. Euripides breaks from this archaic model by producing tragedies without a clear antagonist. Without this pivotal character role, the play is able to take on a more tragic persona. Aristotle expresses his thoughts about tragedy in his book Poetics. In the chapter titled The Best Kinds of Tragic Plot, Aristotle dives into how a plot should be structured (page 20, Poetics). Aristotle believes a simplistic plot structure using common households is best (page 20, Poetics). He uses Euripides as an example of what to do, stating that those who criticize his work for using already established characters are making a mistake. Euripides utilizes the audience s background knowledge of his characters to his advantage. He is able to embellish his plays by alluding to references already known to the audience to further the plot. For example, in Hekabe, during the sacrifice of Polyxena there were parallels to the sacrifice of Agamemnon s daughter Iphigenia. This detail in the play builds Agamemnon s character without going off on a long anecdote about his past. Aristotle believed that despite Euripides s incorporation of already established characters, it was the structure of his plots which allows him to be regarded as the most tragic of poets. (page 22, Poetics). As previously stated, Euripides distinguishes himself from other playwrights by embracing a unique style of having unclear antagonistic roles. His play Hekabe is a perfect example because the antagonistic role is obscure. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
