Form Should Follow Function
Form Should Follow Function The history of design can teach contemporary designers about the
achievements and mistakes of the past. Such examinations of history show that lessons can be learned
from the varying disciplines focused on the forms and functions of designs; where different designers
take different standings on what is the appropriate form for the desired function. Burkey Belser, an
information designer, discusses contemporary design, and that The mirror has shattered and fragments
of design movements are now strong, moving in parallel streams . (Belser 2002) This statement shows
the drift caused in design through history and the increase in individualism that now exists. Examples
can be seen in all aspects of design, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I took a new approach with this project, where I thought about what type of room I was making the
shade for, as a person will have different lighting needs for each room, and shades should vary based
on that purpose. Many of the designs I saw were similar in their shape, but it was the decoration that
varied. I took a bedroom light shade as my challenge, where I wanted to make a shade that could
create a soft light, where the light would not shine directly down, but rather flow to the ceiling and
around. The shape itself was quite simple; a truncated cone which would hang from the ceiling, with a
smaller cone placed inside. The idea was that the majority of the light would reflect back towards the
ceiling, where it could fill the room, while a small amount would come through the small gap between
the cones. With this project, I made a similar task for myself, to make a Christmas themed lantern.
This was to explore the possible functions of lighting and lamp shades, as well as how form follows
function, so while my plan was to create a decorative lantern with a Christmas look; it wasn t difficult
for the form to create itself. I sketched a winter village on some card with a black pen for the shade,
many pin sized holes were made in specific locations to highlight the drawing, and it was then made to
a cylinder where I made a cap to block the light. The light

Theme Of Doubleness In The Great Gatsby
II. At this point, hints have already been dropped to the reader about Gatsby and his doubleness ,
(Hays, 1), but even so Fitzgerald now begins to emphasize the extent of that doubleness by
showcasing not only Gatsby s strange habits, but his wealth and power as well.
Fitzgerald has already demonstrated to the reader how unrestrained Gatsby s lifestyle is, and now he
has begun to slowly affirm Nick s doubts about Gatsby. Aside from that, Fitzgerald focuses even more
so on hinting at the truth behind Gatsby s notorious rumors.
The first time the reader actually sees Gatsby use his social status for something other than parties, is
during a brief encounter with a highway policeman.
As Gatsby speeds down a highway and is stopped by a policeman, Nick witnesses him wave a white
card from his wallet right in front of the man s face. This gaudy display of exemption implies that
Gatsby is not at all opposed to using his social status to his benefit, morally just or not. It hints back to
the rumors floating around his parties that Gatsby is not a man to be trifled with, so much that
Fitzgerald even goes so far as to call Gatsby second cousin to the devil (61). Thus, his doubleness as a
mysterious party host and a rumored cold blooded killer is brought to relevance (Hays, 1). 2. At lunch,
Nick is introduced to Meyer Wolfsheim, who very nearly exposes Gatsby s dealings in shady business.
This encounter is used to show where some of the rumors about Gatsby might

Argument Paper On Gun Control
Position Paper on Gun Control
While Americans were contemplating gun control proposals in the wake of mass shootings at a
Colorado School, another gunman massacred 50 people in a club in Orlando. This incident brought
heated political exchanges between President Obama and Trump, the Republican presidential
candidate. It is estimated that in 2015 alone, there were more than 351 mass shootings in the United
States. This is a worrying trend that should be reversed as soon as possible. Surprisingly, the trend has
divided Americans into two groups. On one extreme end, there are those Americans who believe that
the government should enforce gun control. On the other end, some Americans insist that stricter gun
controls will not help in the fight against killings. In this light, this paper will try to provide a detailed
analysis of the gun control debate while highlighting the various points made by the proponents and
opponents of the gun control. The essay posits that gun control is counterproductive.
The debate on gun control revolves around how the laws to be implemented will affect the acquisition
of guns by the criminals as well as law abiding citizens. Gun control proponents are of the opinion that
in the absence of gun control laws, criminals will acquire guns too easily. In the same vein, if all
citizens are armed, criminals will have a greater incentive to acquire guns. Hence, there will be too
many guns in circulation and crime cases will increase. Contrastingly, gun

Hindu Religion And Hindu Churches
Khalil Gibran once said, I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your
church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit. This quotation means that people
from all races and religion are one in union, even though we come from different places and pray
differently, we come together as one equal. This quotation relates to a religious site because all
churches and religions are linked to the same thing. A religious site is a place where people connect to
God and help bring peace in their life. I ve chosen to go to a Mandir. A Mandir can be defined from
Dictionary.com as a Hindu church.

about 7 years now. There are two floors in the church; the first floor is the prayer room where all of
the Gods and Goddesses are located to be worshiped. The second floor is for the people to eat after
service is over. There are many Gods and Goddesses in the Queens Hindu Mandir, there are over 75
idols that are worshiped on special occasions and on Sunday mass.
I ve spoken to four people who help organize the church during the week. My first person who I
interviewed is the priest of the Mandir, Pandit Ravi Maharaj. Pandit Ravi Maharaj told me he has been
a priest for about 7 years for the Queens Hindu Mandir, he told me that he loves praying in this temple
because it gives him peace, and praying for others help him feel better as a person. Pandit Ravi
Maharaj told me that he does Sunday services and he also prays with individuals who call him to

The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit
The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self
has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very
existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of
self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was
skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this
paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his
claims on continuity. Descartes non reductionist arguments, though not incorrect, lack the soundness
that Parfit poses with his reductionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that
nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself,
whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the
truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to
fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the
moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses,
which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its
distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax
that remains which has undergone some alterations from what is was before. He concludes that the
nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the
perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer.
Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is
fundamentally the derivative of perception. His rational thinking provides the proof of his existence
that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of
consciousness, experience and emotions.

According to Animal Planet TV Channel that aired an incredibly controversial program about
mermaids and the evidence in 2012 and 2013, the whole world should know the truth about mermaid.
They invited a marine scientist Dr. Paul Robertson claims that mermaids are real, they do exist, living
in the deep ocean and there s a lot of evidence has been found all around the world.
Based on Dr. Paul Robertson on Animal Planet TV program (2012,2013) , he claims that human
ancestors were lived under the water long before to adapt to the environment. It s apply the same like
a legend about the arctic polar bear who believed are separated from the other brown bear when it s

Effect Of Online Social Media On Newsroom Operations Essay
EFFECT OF ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA ON NEWSROOM OPERATIONS IN BROADCASTING
STATIONS IN KENYA: A CASE STUDY OF KENYA BROADCASTING CORPORATION
TEROI FELIX KBET
IS/1233/14
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Technology has always been at the forefront of newsgathering and the journalistic process. The last
century has seen visual, audio and digital innovations contributing greatly to changing the way
journalists think about and engage in their work. Yet these technologies have not by themselves
redefined what it means to be a journalist, in the professional sense Lasorsa, Lewis Holton (2011).
Social media is affecting the way a local television news station presents information to its audience
and how its audience in turn receives information. The adoption of social media, in particular Twitter
and Facebook have made a significant impact on how people choose to receive their news and
information
The widespread adoption of social media and increased online activity by media organisations has led
to the adoption of new ways of processing, collecting and dissemination news worldwide.
1.2 History of Kenya broadcasting corporation.
The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) was first established in 1928 when the British were
bringing ranchers to settle their new colony, because they needed a format to receive news from home.
At that time, it was solely a British radio station. The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation has gone
through many changes to become the media giant that it is

Lethal injections have been around for many years with the same basic idea and procedure. Lethal
injection uses three drugs, a fast acting barbiturate that sedates the inmate and the drug Tubocurarine
that paralyzes the inmate, and finally potassium chloride is used to stop his heart. These methods have
been a controversial issue for many reasons. People that supports lethal injection believes that it is
more humane method of execution than any other because it cause little or no pain. It also argued that
it is less expensive than detaining or placing someone in jail for life. As far as lethal injection been

Conflict Theory And Social Reform
Abstract Chapter 4, Value Conflict, discusses how American sociologists in the early stages of
Sociology briefly overlooked the conflict perspective because social reform was more popular. Then
the conflict theory became more significant when a link was found in conflict theory and social
reform. Conflict Theorists and the formulation of the value of Conflict Perspective The conflict
perspective is a combination of European and American Sociologist theories of conflict that was first
inspired by Karl Marx. Marx saw how industrialization, early in European society, caused the conflict
theory between classes. Rubington and Weinberg state that Georg Simmel made the connection
between conflict theory and social reform. Simmel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this dream was not often realized and gained which caused conflict and social problems because
many would result in crimes and violence. The framework for value conflict was created by Richard
C. Fuller and Richard Meyers. They two stated in publications, that all of social problems with values
have a conflict because everyone s values are not the same. This creates a conflict of interests and
there are (3) three stages of the mix of the two: 1. Awareness 2. Policy Determination 3. Reform Fuller
and Myers wrote their papers during the Great Depression and World War II, both equally rough times
in American history which created conflicts at home and abroad for people in general. The conflict
theory opposed the notion of disorganization because what is wrong with individuals expressing how
they feel about a subject that a different group agrees with. Just because two groups have different
opinions is not disorganization in the view of the conflict theorists. This caused critics to suggest that
competing sociologists were not following the guidelines to be value free. This led to the formulation
of value conflict perspective to include the notion that sociologists should concern themselves with
society rather than scientific appearances. Characteristics of the value of Conflict Perspective The
characteristics of the Value Conflict as a perspective are even more clearly laid out than social
pathology perspective

Randy Stair Argumentative Essay
Dallas man was believed to kill and hold his three co workers captive inside a closed northeast
Pennsylvania grocery store overnight Thursday involuntarily guided police as he left traces behind
him when he posted a video on his Twitter account, praising the shooters of Columbine High School
of 1999.
Wyoming County District Attorney Jeff Mitchell said that that suspect Randy Stair, 24, posted a 42
minute video footage about a brutal attack at the time of the killings.
The video footage features Stair praising Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold as heroes
and he was kissing a loaded weapon.
Police say Stair got two pistol grip shotguns in order to work at the store in rural Tunkhannock, about
150 miles north west of New York City (241 kilometres). Stir closed store exits and started shooting

It s just unspeakable, it really is, Mitchell said. These people went to work and they lost their lives
because they went to work. It s senseless.

The Effects Of Noxious Weeds On Rangeland
The Effects of Noxious Weeds on Rangeland
Seth Robbins
Noxious weeds can be very harmful to all aspect of rangeland. They can outcompete native grasses
and forbs causing a loss of forage to livestock and wildlife. A large number of noxious weeds have
been purposely introduced to the United States for purposes such as food, forage, fiber and decorative
ground cover. Programs have been created to help with the invasion of weeds. It s taken lots of time
and resources to get programs started up to be able to combat the effect of noxious weeds.
Noxious weeds have an adverse effect on the rangeland, if left unchecked they could overwhelm and
destroy all of the native grasses. A large amount of the noxious weeds that are causing issues today in
rangeland and public lands. Were at one time introduced for other purposes to either rangeland or non
rangeland areas. These noxious weeds are costing large amount of money to combat their invasion
onto rangeland, public, and private lands. Weeds are able to take over developing areas because of the
removal of native grasses or forbs and then leaving bare soil exposed. Many weeds thrive when bare
soil is present and after they have gotten their hold on the area it s very difficult to remove them form
it completely. Invasive species have been brought into the United States, some on purpose to help fill a
needed use and then latter getting out of control and creating a mess of what they have done to

Banking Concept Of Education Summary
In Paulo Freire s essay The Banking Concept of Education, he discusses the flaws he has seen in the
education system. Specifically he argues that in most education systems the students are just empty
receptacles being filled by their teachers, there is no dialog between the teacher and students. Freire
thinks that in education learning should not be a one way thing, there should be a dialog going on
between the teacher and students. Another big point Freire emphasizes in his essay is active learning,
so that everyone is learning and participating. In Freire s essay he proposes a new way of learning/a
new concept of learning called the problem posing concept. Another point Freire makes in his problem
posing concept is that education is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freire feels that the students should not be passive and that they should always be actively learning but
also always helping others learn as well. He also thinks that students should be able to voice their
opinions when learning and also be able to challenge others knowledge and not just accept and repeat
the facts that are being told to them. Additionally, Freire thinks that all learning should be active.
Active learning is a big element to truly learning. If you are not actively having a dialog and learning
from each other, you are using the banking concept of learning, only receiving information and not
challenging the knowledge. In problem posing education people develop their power to perceive
critically the way they exist in the world with which and in which they find themselves, the problem
posing model is used to help students think more critically and in depth about what they are learning.
The problem posing education model regards dialog as indispensable to the act of cognition which
unveils reality. Freire wants the students to be able to form their own opinions and thoughts on
subjects, not just repeat what was told to them about the topic. Freire s goal with the problem posing
concept is to get students to actively and critically think about what they are learning and why they are
learning about it. the teacher cannot think for her students, nor can she impose her thoughts on them,
this is why students need to be actively thinking, they need to form their own opinions to truly

Hypothalamus And Motivation
There is an understanding that motivation is a driving force on behavior, but what remains unknown is
where the purpose and execution of a motivated behavior converge within the brain. The
hypothalamus plays an essential role in the integration of sensory information to direct motivated
behaviors that maintain homeostasis in the body. A behavior that largely results from motivation is
feeding, which has a reinforcing and rewarding property that stimulates the want for food. Feeding
behavior illustrates regulation at the level of the hypothalamus a want supported by the dopamine
reward system, and a relationship between food and mood provided by serotonin. Regulation of
feeding behavior is governed by two metabolic processes known as anabolism

Skullcandy headphones have been making great strides in new designs and new product types.
(Russell, 2011) They have also been putting out clothing and other accessories such as hats,
sunglasses, and are in the works of starting a shoe design with DC, which is a shoe company known
for making skating shoes. Stocks have been going up for Skullcandy so they should expect more
people to buy in to what they are about and help them become a household name. (Russell, 2011)
Some of the threats or competition for Skullcandy headphones is Sony. Sony is a big name in
electronics and also makes headphones of all kinds. Sony already has many years on Skullcandy and

Infringement Upon The Right Of Free Speech
Infringement Upon the Right of Free Speech
One of the most notable rights stated in our constitution is the right to free speech. That right is
engrained in the minds of every American since the creation of America itself, but currently the right
to free speech is being tossed aside in the fear of conflict with opposing ideas or offensive content.
College universities specifically have taken steps to impede upon this right through speech codes and
other acts that restrict the right to speak freely. American s growing infringement upon the right of free
speech in universities is creating a threat to American culture and the principles that it was founded
upon; In order for our citizens to withhold their individuality, opinions, and culture free speech must
be actively protected.
A speech code is any regulation that bans speech beyond the strict legal limitations of free speech.
Universities across America have placed speech codes and restriction upon their students that are
intended to protect students from offensive content or offensive opinions but these restrictions often
interfere with the first amendment. According to survey done by the Foundation for Individual Rights
in Education forty nine percent of all colleges in the U.S. utilize speech codes. Colleges in America
use these speech codes as a part of their student conduct rules and regulations, breaking a speech code
can result in serious discipline. An example of a speech code placed upon college students

Recent Medical Discoveries In Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Disease
Abstract
Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva disease also known as FOP is a rare genetic disease of the
connective tissue. FOP can be characterized by malformations of the big toe. This malformation is a
characteristic feature that helps distinguish the disease from other muscle and bone issues. It is a
disease that is caused by a mutation in the bodies repair mechanism. This causes muscle and
connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons, to be ossified spontaneously or when they are
damaged. Sometimes the bone can be permanently frozen in place in some cases. FOP is usually seen
in early childhood it starts with the neck and shoulder and proceeds down the body and into the limbs.
People who suffer from FOP are basically imprisoned by their own skeleton. Majority of FOP cases
are sporadic and are a result from a new gene mutation (Lerardi Curto and Lynne). This mutation is an
autosomal dominant disorder; this means it affects those who are heterozygous with a homozygous
recessive partner because of this it means their children will have a fifty percent chance of having
FOP. Most cases of FOP are a result from new mutations in the gene. People who have FOP and have
the heterozygous phenotype have less severe affects than those who have the homozygous dominant
phenotype. Patients who have FOB have the ossification gene that is still working in their bodies and
it is usually turned off after a

The Debate Over the No Child Left Behind Act Essay
The current debates surrounding the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 are both positive and negative.
Many politicians and people that previously supported the Act are now standing against it. In the
beginning many supported the new Act because everyone was aware that a change needed to happen
in the education system and the proposal of No Child Left Behind seemed like the answer we were
looking for. As the No Child Left Behind requirements began to be felt in the school systems across
America and the assessments results started coming in, everyone took a step back and really began to
look at the new law. The results were not what everyone expected, what was once considered an
answer was now becoming the problem.

This is another glitch of No Child Left Behind, the law wanted school to assess their students on a
yearly basis to see who they rated among national levels but they did not give any assistance or
guidance on how they wanted to school to implement this. Schools were now not only forced to
implement the changes to meet the requirement of No Child Left Behind, now they had to come up
with a way to measure their progress. This only added to the negative views of the new law and has
been a sore spot among debaters in Washington and the school system.
According to a nationwide poll released almost 70 percent of American adults who say they are
familiar with the federal No Child Left Behind Act believe it has had no effect or is actually hurting
public schools (Greifner, 2006). Many parents began to see the effects this new law had on their
children. The added stress of testing that would determine if you passed or failed your grade,
homework by the boatloads, and normal childhood activities such as recess were becoming a thing of
the past. Parents and educators began to speak out against the Act and have gone to their states
political parties to try and encourage them to make a change. Some states have listened to the voices
opposing No Child Left Behind and have sought waivers from the federal government to no longer
participate or limit their participation with the law.
Even with the negative perceptions of No Child Left Behind, there have been

The question arose about the cost benefits of treating the tree versus cutting them down. It cost
approximately $43.00 to treat one tree versus the $400.00 to cut the tree down, grind the stump away,
and plant a new tree in its place. Even though many Ash trees have been saved by this treatment, it

Communication In Interpersonal Communication
Faith Awareness
To begin with, this paper will include seven different concepts that were learned from interpersonal
communication. Starting off with the different communication needs and finishing with deception
within relationships. To mention a few, also included in the paper are how perception affects
communication, Knapp s stages of relational development and Gottman s four horsemen of the
apocalypse. Each concept will be defined as by the book, Interpersonal Communication, by Kory
Floyd (2011). Furthermore, concepts learned will be discussed on how this affects our faith and
communication with future relationships.
Communication Needs
First, communication needs are aspects in our lives that are affected by our communication. These are
physical, relational, identity, spiritual and instrumental needs. Physical needs help with maintaining
one s physical and mental health. Next are relational needs, which assist in developing friendships and
relationships. Communication helps with figuring out who you are as a person, this is known as
identity needs. The fourth need communication helps with is spiritual needs, which lets us share our
beliefs and values with others (Floyd, 2011, p. 9). Last one are instrumental needs, these make it easier
for everyday tasks.
Communication needs serve an importance to our relationships because by understanding how
communication fits in on our needs as humans, this can help us express effectively towards others.

Warrior Women Oppression
Warrior Women: Oppression and Strength of Female Protagonists in Mrs. Dalloway, The Woman
Warrior, and The Handmaid s Tale In most history books, women get far fewer pages than men. This
is sometimes attributed to a lack of material left behind by women through time, but this and their
relative lack of coverage are both testaments to the limits placed on women in the male dominated
societies of the times discussed. An article on feminist literary criticism quotes Virginia Woolf saying,
woman pervaded poetry from cover to cover but was in fact the slave of any boy whose parents forced
a ring on her finger (Lanser 5). In more recent history, strong female voices abound in literature as

The novels Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, the Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston, and
The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood demonstrate the strength of female characters in the face of
oppression by the customs of patriarchal societies, cultural gender stereotypes, and psychological
factors manipulated against them. As mentioned in the quote above from Virginia Woolf s Jacob s
Room, in controlling societies, marriage can be utilized as a way of submitting women to the rule of a
man or limiting their options in society by confining them to the roles thought acceptable for a wife.
This theme is continued in Mrs. Dalloway, as marriage is displayed as a form of sacrifice in the name
of cultural values and causes suffering for multiple characters. After a visit from her idealistic and
romantic childhood friend, Peter Walsh, who has just returned from India, Carissa considers her life
following the suggestion of what could have been if she had married him instead of Mr.

political elitist, who have hindered the state s progress towards economic advancement. Venezuela s
lack of political stability is defined by a rational actor, due to the inability of elitist groups to invest
their wealth in domestic development. According to Acemoglu s historical approach to assessing the
role of institutions in economic development, some societies have good institutions that encourage
investment in machinery, human capital, and better technologies, and, consequently, these countries
achieve economic prosperity. However, countries where elitist groups represent the institutions often

Survive in the Lord of the Flies by William Golding Essay
When humans are pushed to survive, they are willing to do anything to do so. In the novel Lord of the
Flies by William Golding, a group of boys are stranded on an island and have to survive, however as
the story progresses the boys become more barbaric and savage like. Even though there are good
people in this world, there will always be evil. Why does evil exist? Golding s belief of human nature
is that humans are naturally evil and savage. However, law and civility keep humans from turning into
this natural state of evil and Golding uses the development of Jack to show how savagery is created.
Golding uses other characters to show Jack s regression to savagery and one of these characters is

The setting of the novel takes place on a peaceful, life giving island. However, once the boys came to
the island, the island slowly became consumed in darkness as the boys became more savage like.
Towards the beginning of the novel, Golding emphasizes the light hearted mood by describing the
brightness and beauty of the island, The palms that stood made a green roof, covered on the underside
with a quivering tangle of the reflection from the lagoon. (pg 12). Just like the island, the boys start
out as peaceful boys when they first arrive on the island. However, as the boys became more corrupted
by savagery, so does the island and Golding effectively uses this in the scene where the boys lose
control of themselves and in their bloodlust, kill Simon, The clouds opened and let down the rain like
a waterfall... (pg 153). Golding s use of the setting shows the evil in humans by giving the reader a
mental illustration of the progression of the island turning from paradise to despair, much like how
Jack starts out as a normal boy, but progresses into savagery. The conch is one of the most important
symbols in the novel because it represents civility on the island and without civility, the whole island
would fall into chaos. Golding uses the conch to show what would happen to humans if law and order
were removed from humanity. Rules and order are the only things that are keeping the boys from
falling into savagery. Jack is one of the first

Antony s sly words convince Brutus that him speaking at Caesar s funeral will benefit everyone.
Antony s language persuades the person who murdered his greatest ally, to have complete faith in him.
This characteristic of leadership demonstrates Antony s ability to meet his personal goals using his
dynamic speech skills. Brutus speaks before Caesar s funeral and mentions that Caesar was ambitious.
After Brutus speech, Antony makes an even better speech that refutes all of Brutus points. Antony
states that Caesar could not be ambitious because Caesar brought home wealth to Rome, cried for the
citizens, and that Caesar refused the crown three times. Antony cries after the speech, and tells that
citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83). When Antony mentions this

Grease Play Analysis
Grease Play Evaluation Great Theater Company put on the play Grease from April first through the
seventh of 2016. The musical Grease was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The director of the
performance was David Symalla. Twenty four individuals composed of the entire cast. The whole cast
was eighteen years or older. This gave the play a more mature feel. A live orchestra preformed the
music, which consisted of eight members. The orchestra brought the play to life and made the show
even more enjoyable. The entire cast was amazing at singing. It was clear that there are a lot of
talented people in the central Minnesota area. The performance ran smoothly and no major mistakes
stood out. The characters of Danny, Kenickie, and Rizzo ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The microphone could have been louder to hear him better. Even though Sandy was a main character,
she did not capture the attention of the audience like she should have. During the high school prom
scene, the choreography seemed a little boring. More complex dance routines could have been added
to liven up the multiple dance numbers during this scene. Costumes and slang used matched the 1950s
time period. The costumes looked authentic and really set the tone for the play. Slang and language
throughout the play mattered the time period perfectly. A staircase that lit up to the beat of the music
added a lot of interest to multiple dance numbers. Several different sets were set up during the play,
and it was obvious where the characters were. The props and setting structures were constructed very
well. A drag race scene did take place during the performance. The concept of preforming it seemed
difficult, but the special effects and choreography worked out well. It felt like Danny and the rival
gang leader were actually racing on stage. That was extremely impressive. The show was very
entertaining. The language and themes were more mature, so it would not be advised for children to
attend. Many of the jokes were for the

Heavy Metals And Its Effects
1. Introduction
Heavy metals and their salts (Cu, Zn, Hg, Pb, Co, Ni,) are widespread industrial pollutants. In the
waters they come from natural sources (rocks, the surface layers of soil and groundwater), the
wastewater of many industrial enterprises and rain (polluted with smoke emissions). Heavy metals, as
trace elements, are constantly encountered in natural waters and aquatic bodies depending on the
geochemical conditions.
Heavy metals are quite stable and cannot be destroyed. Entering the ponds, they are included in the
cycling of matter and subjected to various transformations. Inorganic compounds are rapidly
solubilized in water and transferred into poorly soluble hydroxides, carbonates, sulfides and
phosphates. Later, these insoluble products settle down and contaminate the bottom sediments.
Under the influence of living organisms (bacteria, fungi and others) mercury, tin, and arsenic undergo
methylation, becoming more toxic alkyl compound. Moreover, metals can be accumulated in various
organisms and incorporated in the food chain and cause poisoning.
This project focuses on the elimination of cobalt (II) metal ions from contaminated waters. Even
though Co (II) appears to be one of the essential elements to human body at low concentrations, when
cobalt is too concentrated; it may damage human body and may cause diseases such as asthma and

President Poll Analysis
Life has its ups and downs. So does being president of the United States. Sometimes the people love
and support the president s decisions and actions, while other times they speak harshly of him. How is
possible to know this? Well, of course, there are news programs that talk about the president. The
anchors often give their opinion of the president and interview others. But, there is also another way to
get the public s opinion. A type of poll that is commonly use throughout the service of U.S presidents
is the Presidental job approval rating. This poll is designed to measure how well the public thinks the
president is doing his or job.
Some presidents have done exceptionally well in the public s opinion, while others like, George ...

Then, the participants answered that they either approved or disapproved. But, the participants could
also choose to have no opinion. Due to the fact that the surveyor wants the public s true opinion on the
president, in his or her questions, they refrain from using bias to sway their participant. Consequently,
the questions used are often straightforward and simple. Presidental job approval rating polls are not
given to the entire population of the United States. In other words, these polls are targeted towards
specific groups. Who was surveyed for the poll? And how many? Adult citizens and registered voters
were surveyed for the poll. 1,001 adult Americans were surveyed by interviews that occurred over
telephone calls. Earlier, it was mentioned that this poll refrained from using bias. What exactly were
the questions about? What are some examples of the non biased questions? The questions about
Obama were simply asking if the person approved or disapproved of the way he handled his job as
president and how the person felt about his dealings with ISIS, Foreign Affairs, etc. Here are a few
examples of actual questions used: Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is
handling his job as president? Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling

The Independence Of Meta Cinema And Authorship
Chapter 2
This chapter will examine the independence of meta cinema and authorship. As Valck and Hagener
stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic practice set up due to the prominence
of the film director emerges from passionate attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma,
and further aims to cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus,
auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception of filmmakers?
self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on European art cinema that the stress of
authorship covers the distinct style of art cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay,
representative art films are introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for
Night (La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to demonstrate this, I will
take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as
illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the
discussion on the projection of auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples
reflect the process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors?
individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been stated in film critiques
and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by Fran?ois Truffaut as

Michelangelo s David and Gian Lorenzo Bernini David There are not many artists in the world of
sculptors that can compare or surpass the work of these two artists. The comparison that I will make is
between two different artists who happened to create a marble statue of the biblical David but did it
differently and during different eras of art. Michelangelo created his seventeen feet, standing nude
male statue of David first during the renaissance era between the year 1501 and 1504 in the 16th
century while Gian Lorenzo Bernini did it later in 1624 using the baroque style which was the artistic
style of the 17th century (Coughlan, 18). The artwork of these two artists goes a long way in defining
the state of art culturally and stylistically its significance during the particular periods they created
their respective statues of David. Having seen both sculptures it is safe to stylistically analyze that
Michelangelo and the renaissance masters concentrated more on the rules of geometry design because
looking at his statue of David everything about the statue is idealized in the sense that his sculpture s
size is not the normal size of a human being. He basically used the rules of geometry and symmetry to
build a big body block and decorated it with the details of a figure that served his architecture. His
methods allowed him to recreate every part of the figure

JaneAddams, a social activist during the late 1800 s, was not only responsible for the improvement of
literary and art awareness among the working poor, but played a pivotal role in the development and
promotion of social work. Through her creation of the Hull House, a settlement home she founded to
provide support for white immigrants into the harsh and unloving society of Chicago, she was able to
reach out to many and set an example for all.The Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was
founded in November 1874 in Cleveland, Ohio. Frances Willard is an American educator, reformer,

successful lobbyist, and an expert in pressure politics, she was a leader of the national Prohibition
Party. The National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association, both
founded in 1869, were the main suffrage organizations in the U.S. during the 19th century. They
pursued the right to vote in different ways, but by 1890 it became necessary to combine efforts to keep
the cause alive. The newly formed organization, the National American Woman Suffrage Association
(NAWSA), became the most mainstream and nationally visible pro suffrage group. Its strategy was to
push for suffrage at the state level, believing that state by state support would eventually force the
federal government to pass the amendment.Carrie Chapman Catt was the Women s rights activist and

Problems of the Food System Essay
We live in an age in which we have come to expect everything to be instantaneously at our fingertips.
We live in an age of instant coffee, instant tea, and even instant mashed potatoes. We can walk down
the street at 5 in the morning and get a gallon of milk or even a weeks worth of groceries at our
discretion. Even though it is great that food is now readily available at all times, this convenience
comes at a price, for both the producer and the consumer. Farmers are cheated out of money and are
slaves to big business, workers and animals are mistreated. And, because food now comes at a low
cost, it has become cheaper quality and therefore potentially dangerous to the consumer s health.
These problems surrounding the ethics and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, big business controls the farmers by capitalizing on widely used commodities. For
example, the company Monsanto which is based in St. Louis, Missouri protects its dominance over the
genetically modified crops such as the soy bean with the use of a patent law. Because of this,
Monsanto s patented genes account for 95 percent of all soy beans and 80 percent of all corn grown in
the U.S., (Associated Press). Although genetically modifying the soy bean crop has made it more
readily available and more sustainable, this comes at a high price to farmers. Monsanto continues to
raise their prices, which forces farmers to accrue even more debt, and there is no sign of the rise in the
seed prices stopping. Since a lot of the farmers are under contract with Monsanto, there is nothing they
can do about this unethical policy in fear of losing their job. If you think being a farmer is bad, try
working in a slaughter house. Knocker, Sticker, Shackler, Rumper, First Legger, Knuckle Dropper,
these are just a few of the positions the workers at a slaughterhouse get assigned to. Simply reading
the names of the above job positions induces a sense of nausea and hints at the inherent brutality that
these positions demand (Schlosser, 172). Because the weight and size of cows are unpredictable, most
of the labor in the slaughterhouse must be done by hand. On the kill floor of a slaughterhouse,

  • 2. Form Should Follow Function Form Should Follow Function The history of design can teach contemporary designers about the achievements and mistakes of the past. Such examinations of history show that lessons can be learned from the varying disciplines focused on the forms and functions of designs; where different designers take different standings on what is the appropriate form for the desired function. Burkey Belser, an information designer, discusses contemporary design, and that The mirror has shattered and fragments of design movements are now strong, moving in parallel streams . (Belser 2002) This statement shows the drift caused in design through history and the increase in individualism that now exists. Examples can be seen in all aspects of design, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I took a new approach with this project, where I thought about what type of room I was making the shade for, as a person will have different lighting needs for each room, and shades should vary based on that purpose. Many of the designs I saw were similar in their shape, but it was the decoration that varied. I took a bedroom light shade as my challenge, where I wanted to make a shade that could create a soft light, where the light would not shine directly down, but rather flow to the ceiling and around. The shape itself was quite simple; a truncated cone which would hang from the ceiling, with a smaller cone placed inside. The idea was that the majority of the light would reflect back towards the ceiling, where it could fill the room, while a small amount would come through the small gap between the cones. With this project, I made a similar task for myself, to make a Christmas themed lantern. This was to explore the possible functions of lighting and lamp shades, as well as how form follows function, so while my plan was to create a decorative lantern with a Christmas look; it wasn t difficult for the form to create itself. I sketched a winter village on some card with a black pen for the shade, many pin sized holes were made in specific locations to highlight the drawing, and it was then made to a cylinder where I made a cap to block the light. • 3. Theme Of Doubleness In The Great Gatsby II. At this point, hints have already been dropped to the reader about Gatsby and his doubleness , (Hays, 1), but even so Fitzgerald now begins to emphasize the extent of that doubleness by showcasing not only Gatsby s strange habits, but his wealth and power as well. Fitzgerald has already demonstrated to the reader how unrestrained Gatsby s lifestyle is, and now he has begun to slowly affirm Nick s doubts about Gatsby. Aside from that, Fitzgerald focuses even more so on hinting at the truth behind Gatsby s notorious rumors. The first time the reader actually sees Gatsby use his social status for something other than parties, is during a brief encounter with a highway policeman. As Gatsby speeds down a highway and is stopped by a policeman, Nick witnesses him wave a white card from his wallet right in front of the man s face. This gaudy display of exemption implies that Gatsby is not at all opposed to using his social status to his benefit, morally just or not. It hints back to the rumors floating around his parties that Gatsby is not a man to be trifled with, so much that Fitzgerald even goes so far as to call Gatsby second cousin to the devil (61). Thus, his doubleness as a mysterious party host and a rumored cold blooded killer is brought to relevance (Hays, 1). 2. At lunch, Nick is introduced to Meyer Wolfsheim, who very nearly exposes Gatsby s dealings in shady business. This encounter is used to show where some of the rumors about Gatsby might ... • 4. Argument Paper On Gun Control Position Paper on Gun Control While Americans were contemplating gun control proposals in the wake of mass shootings at a Colorado School, another gunman massacred 50 people in a club in Orlando. This incident brought heated political exchanges between President Obama and Trump, the Republican presidential candidate. It is estimated that in 2015 alone, there were more than 351 mass shootings in the United States. This is a worrying trend that should be reversed as soon as possible. Surprisingly, the trend has divided Americans into two groups. On one extreme end, there are those Americans who believe that the government should enforce gun control. On the other end, some Americans insist that stricter gun controls will not help in the fight against killings. In this light, this paper will try to provide a detailed analysis of the gun control debate while highlighting the various points made by the proponents and opponents of the gun control. The essay posits that gun control is counterproductive. The debate on gun control revolves around how the laws to be implemented will affect the acquisition of guns by the criminals as well as law abiding citizens. Gun control proponents are of the opinion that in the absence of gun control laws, criminals will acquire guns too easily. In the same vein, if all citizens are armed, criminals will have a greater incentive to acquire guns. Hence, there will be too many guns in circulation and crime cases will increase. Contrastingly, gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit. This quotation means that people from all races and religion are one in union, even though we come from different places and pray differently, we come together as one equal. • 6. The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his claims on continuity. Descartes non reductionist arguments, though not incorrect, lack the soundness that Parfit poses with his reductionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself, whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses, which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax that remains which has undergone some alterations from what is was before. He concludes that the nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer. Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is fundamentally the derivative of perception. His rational thinking provides the proof of his existence that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of consciousness, experience and emotions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This creates a conflict of interests and there are (3) three stages of the mix of the two: 1. Awareness 2. Policy Determination 3. Reform Fuller and Myers wrote their papers during the Great Depression and World War II, both equally rough times in American history which created conflicts at home and abroad for people in general. The conflict theory opposed the notion of disorganization because what is wrong with individuals expressing how they feel about a subject that a different group agrees with. Just because two groups have different opinions is not disorganization in the view of the conflict theorists. This caused critics to suggest that competing sociologists were not following the guidelines to be value free. This led to the formulation of value conflict perspective to include the notion that sociologists should concern themselves with society rather than scientific appearances. Specifically he argues that in most education systems the students are just empty receptacles being filled by their teachers, there is no dialog between the teacher and students. Freire thinks that in education learning should not be a one way thing, there should be a dialog going on between the teacher and students. Another big point Freire emphasizes in his essay is active learning, so that everyone is learning and participating. Additionally, Freire thinks that all learning should be active. Active learning is a big element to truly learning. If you are not actively having a dialog and learning from each other, you are using the banking concept of learning, only receiving information and not challenging the knowledge. In problem posing education people develop their power to perceive critically the way they exist in the world with which and in which they find themselves, the problem posing model is used to help students think more critically and in depth about what they are learning. The problem posing education model regards dialog as indispensable to the act of cognition which unveils reality. Freire wants the students to be able to form their own opinions and thoughts on subjects, not just repeat what was told to them about the topic. Freire s goal with the problem posing concept is to get students to actively and critically think about what they are learning and why they are learning about it. the teacher cannot think for her students, nor can she impose her thoughts on them, this is why students need to be actively thinking, they need to form their own opinions to truly ... That right is engrained in the minds of every American since the creation of America itself, but currently the right to free speech is being tossed aside in the fear of conflict with opposing ideas or offensive content. College universities specifically have taken steps to impede upon this right through speech codes and other acts that restrict the right to speak freely. American s growing infringement upon the right of free speech in universities is creating a threat to American culture and the principles that it was founded upon; In order for our citizens to withhold their individuality, opinions, and culture free speech must be actively protected. Recent Medical Discoveries In Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva Disease Abstract Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva disease also known as FOP is a rare genetic disease of the connective tissue. FOP can be characterized by malformations of the big toe. This malformation is a characteristic feature that helps distinguish the disease from other muscle and bone issues. It is a disease that is caused by a mutation in the bodies repair mechanism. This causes muscle and connective tissue such as ligaments and tendons, to be ossified spontaneously or when they are damaged. Sometimes the bone can be permanently frozen in place in some cases. FOP is usually seen in early childhood it starts with the neck and shoulder and proceeds down the body and into the limbs. People who suffer from FOP are basically imprisoned by their own skeleton. Majority of FOP cases are sporadic and are a result from a new gene mutation (Lerardi Curto and Lynne). This mutation is an autosomal dominant disorder; this means it affects those who are heterozygous with a homozygous recessive partner because of this it means their children will have a fifty percent chance of having FOP. Most cases of FOP are a result from new mutations in the gene. People who have FOP and have the heterozygous phenotype have less severe affects than those who have the homozygous dominant phenotype. According to a nationwide poll released almost 70 percent of American adults who say they are familiar with the federal No Child Left Behind Act believe it has had no effect or is actually hurting public schools (Greifner, 2006). Many parents began to see the effects this new law had on their children. The added stress of testing that would determine if you passed or failed your grade, homework by the boatloads, and normal childhood activities such as recess were becoming a thing of the past. Muslim merchants coming to trade brought Islam, Arabic language, coinage, and their business practices as well as goods to trade for the salt and gold that Ghana was known for. The King of Ghana eventually converted to Islam and employed Muslims as government councils and officials allowing the spread of Islam to expand and the two cultures to defuse. After ... His public relations approach to unionism and aggressive but nonviolent tactics made the farm workers struggle a moral cause with nationwide support. By the late 1970s, his tactics had forced growers to recognize the UFW as the bargaining agent for 50,000 field workers in California and Florida. Antony cries after the speech, and tells that citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83). When Antony mentions this to the crowd, he causes the whole crowd to rethink their decision to follow Brutus. Antony uses his words to convey to the crowd that Brutus could not possibly be correct. Obediently and willingly, both Siegfried and Brenda abided by the wishes of Eagle Eye, refraining from trying to question or argue with him. • 43. Heavy Metals And Its Effects 1. Introduction Heavy metals and their salts (Cu, Zn, Hg, Pb, Co, Ni,) are widespread industrial pollutants. In the waters they come from natural sources (rocks, the surface layers of soil and groundwater), the wastewater of many industrial enterprises and rain (polluted with smoke emissions). Heavy metals, as trace elements, are constantly encountered in natural waters and aquatic bodies depending on the geochemical conditions. Heavy metals are quite stable and cannot be destroyed. Entering the ponds, they are included in the cycling of matter and subjected to various transformations. Inorganic compounds are rapidly solubilized in water and transferred into poorly soluble hydroxides, carbonates, sulfides and phosphates. Later, these insoluble products settle down and contaminate the bottom sediments. Under the influence of living organisms (bacteria, fungi and others) mercury, tin, and arsenic undergo methylation, becoming more toxic alkyl compound. Moreover, metals can be accumulated in various organisms and incorporated in the food chain and cause poisoning. • 48. The Independence Of Meta Cinema And Authorship Chapter 2 This chapter will examine the independence of meta cinema and authorship. As Valck and Hagener stated in An Introduction to Cinephilia, auteurisim a cinematic practice set up due to the prominence of the film director emerges from passionate attendance and critiques on films in Cahiers du Cin?ma, and further aims to cultivate cinematic literacy among the audience (Valck and Hagener, 1999). Thus, auteurist concerns can be summarised as appealing to the articulation and reception of filmmakers? self reflexivity. David Bordwell has indicated in his analysis on European art cinema that the stress of authorship covers the distinct style of art cinema practices (Bordwell, 1979). In his essay, representative art films are introduced as models conveying authorial marks, among which are Day for Night (La Nuit Am?ricaine, Truffaut, 1973) and 8 ? (Fellini, 1963). In order to demonstrate this, I will take in this chapter these two films together with Tout Va Bien (Godard and Gorin, 1972) as illustration. Determined by Bordwell as adversary to art cinema, the third reflexive work balances the discussion on the projection of auteurism in meta cinema as an interrogating approach. All examples reflect the process of filmmaking and embody or question the auteurist concerns on directors? individuality and the uniqueness of cinema as an art. These concerns have been stated in film critiques and have embraced post war European cinema. First coined by Fran?ois Truffaut as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Art History Through The 19th Century Sean Ly Student ID: 03299319 LA 121 OL4: Art History Through The 19th Century December 18, 2015 Sara Ellis Michelangelo s David and Gian Lorenzo Bernini David There are not many artists in the world of sculptors that can compare or surpass the work of these two artists. The comparison that I will make is between two different artists who happened to create a marble statue of the biblical David but did it differently and during different eras of art. Michelangelo created his seventeen feet, standing nude male statue of David first during the renaissance era between the year 1501 and 1504 in the 16th century while Gian Lorenzo Bernini did it later in 1624 using the baroque style which was the artistic style of the 17th century (Coughlan, 18). The artwork of these two artists goes a long way in defining the state of art culturally and stylistically its significance during the particular periods they created their respective statues of David. Having seen both sculptures it is safe to stylistically analyze that Michelangelo and the renaissance masters concentrated more on the rules of geometry design because looking at his statue of David everything about the statue is idealized in the sense that his sculpture s size is not the normal size of a human being. He basically used the rules of geometry and symmetry to build a big body block and decorated it with the details of a figure that served his architecture. His methods allowed him to recreate every part of the figure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
