Research Paper On Orion
Orion is my favorite constellation because it is one of the easiest to find and most recognizable. This
makes it one of the most popular constellations. Orion s belt includes the three brightest stars in the
sky. In the Northern Hemisphere, Orion is a fall and winter constellation, visible from November to
February. One of Orion s stars is actually a nebula, the Orion nebula. The creation myth for Orion
comes from Greek mythology. Orion was a famous hunter. There are several different myths about
Orion s birth, life, and death. The version I read as a child stated that Orion was a son of Poseidon, and
because of this, he could walk on water. He was an amazing hunter, and always made sure to show
respect to Artemis, the goddess of hunting.

Muir and Wordsworth Essay
Lesson 06.09 Assessment
Thesis Statement, Opening Paragraph, evidence conclusion REVISED
While both poets Muir and Wordsworth wrote about the happy feelings that they have towards nature
the beautiful outdoors or what some people may say Mother Nature, some of which the feelings are
the same and some that are different as they speak of the different plants.
In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir Nature does not only show
the beauty of the Earth, but it shows the beauty within us. So then, is it not easy to say that both of
these authors have great beauty within them? After reading both Calypso Borealis, John Muir and I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth, I can boldly state that ... Show more content on

Muir creatively informs the reader just how much the main character truly loves nature. The same
marvel and beauty is shared in the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. After a long climb over a high
hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the
trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out
of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary
from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions
cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions,
but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading.
Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character
prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future
very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I
found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. Overwhelmed by the purity and beauty of the
Calypso, he collapses by the flower and cries. This rather quick change of pace I what kept me
reading, and the fact the Calypso was so beautiful it made the main character break down in tears.
Imagine finding the glorious treasure you ve been seeking the entire time. The change of tone from

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Juvenile Diabetes
When it comes to diabetes, there are multiple types of diabetes. Some of the different types are Type1,
Type 2, and Gestational, Diabetes LADA, Diabetes MODY, Double Diabetes, Type 3 Diabetes,
Steroid Included Diabetes, Brittle Diabetes, Secondary Diabetes, Diabetes Insipidus and Juvenile
Diabetes. All of these diabetes do have something in common. They all cause the blood glucose levels
to go higher than normal. This condition can apply to anyone of any age level. Over 382 million
people in the world have diabetes. From 1990 2010 diabetes prevention has improved greatly
including death.
With Type 1 diabetes, insulin is not produced through the body. Out of the 382 million with diabetes,
10% have Type 1. Type 1 is usually found in children and young adults. The body breaks down sugar
and starches that you eat into glucose, which is used for energy. People with this type of diabetes is
treated with insulin injections for the duration of the diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs
to get glucose from the blood stream into the cells of the body.
If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, your body does not use insulin properly, which is
called insulin resistance. Out of all the cases of diabetes, 90% of it is type 2. The symptoms for type 2
diabetes are controllable by doing plenty of exercises, following a healthy diet, losing weight, and
monitoring our blood glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease. It gets worse and some

Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture
When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to take
into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in the
United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and the
majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is important
to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual.
American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In comparison,
Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an individual entity
(Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family dynamic we have as a
group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be able to help out others. In
addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In America winning is everything
(Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least competitive person I know. I believe that
this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and well being) rather than for others or in
comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is easy to place high importance upon one s
status within society. American culture places high value upon credentials, titles, roles, and material
possessions that create each person s power status. It would be absurd for me to say that my

Compatibility Of Confucianism With The Rule Of Law
Question 8: Compatibility of Confucianism with the rule of law Introduction Since the early days of
man, different societies have had different mechanisms of dealing with individual that go against
accepted norms. These norms formed part of the basic education mechanism that a society practised to
in the past. Foreign practises were however introduced during the colonial error when the colonial
master imposed their own conflict resolution system on the different society. After the assimilation of
the foreign system, researchers have now turned their attention to testing whether those systems are
compatible with the traditionally practised mechanism within a society. A significant example of such
a dilemma is on assessing whether Confucianism is compatible with the rule of law. The two system
represent societies that are different and practised by individual that do not share any historical
relationship. The growth of an international community has led to the adaptation of the rule of law by
most if not all nations in the world. The paper seeks to find out whether Confucianism is compatible
with the rule of law and how the two systems can be adopted by a society. In order to assess the
possibility of compatibility, it is important to first understand how the two system works individually.
The analysis will involve the assessment of the whole functionality of the two policies. Confucianism
Confucianism refers to the social, ethical and political teaching that were developed

Seed + Mill Case Study
Before Seed + Mill became a business, there weren t many tahini and halvah stores in the United
States. After Lisa Mendelson moved to New York from Israel a few years ago, she found that there
was a shortage of quality tahini and halvah cakes. On a trip back to Israel, Mendelson became inspired
after watching American tourists tasting halvah in an outdoor market. She was flooded with flashbacks
of her childhood eating sesame seed products such as halvah cakes. Passionate about a familiar
product and determined to fill a need in American markets, Mendelson went off to create Seed + Mill

Compare And Contrast The Tzar And Trotsky
The Enemy of my Enemy
The premise of the Russian Revolution was to achieve economic and political equality through
Marxism, but were the Revolutionaries successful in eliminating class warfare and a hierarchical
system? Marxist theory states that revolution is a natural process of social classes being oppressed and
their desire to overcome this oppression, but in the process of overcoming their oppression, they will,
in turn, oppress other social classes. This natural process of revolution would eventually lead to
socialism, or economic equality, where there will be no hierarchical system. Social class warfare and a
steep hierarchical system are prominent in autocratic governments, such as the Russian Tzarist regime.

When enemies join forces and defeat a larger, common enemy, the fact remains that they will resume
fighting when they have defeated the common enemy. The common enemy, in this case, was the
autocratic Tzarist regime and the enemies that allied were the Bolsheviks and non Bolsheviks, which
include fellow Marxists and capitalists. The toppling of the [Tzar] did not in itself bring the hoped for
democratic freedoms for women. The dual authorities, the Soviets and the Provisional Government,
that emerged with the end of autocracy both temporized on women s suffrage. (Ruthchild, 240). This
shows that problems continued even after the Tzarist regime ended. The dual powers disappointed
many and resulted in the Russian Civil War. The Bolshevik Revolution is perceived to be a proletariat
socialist revolution but it was far from creating equality. It was another group seeking to oppress as
they have been oppressed. Although there were many instances where the Revolution had brought
together groups of people with differing political views and social standings, Lenin s party, [the
Bolsheviks in power,] would not give up power even if it lost working class support...a socialist party
taking power prematurely would find itself isolated and forced into repressive dictatorship

At the same time, middle and upper class women were increasingly confined to the home with little to
do except to take care of their children. Their husbands no longer worked inside the house, but were
absent during most of the day. These idle women often played the role of frail, sensitive creatures who
had the vapours and fainted in any indelicate situation. On the other hand, many of them also became
critical of their position in society. They found time to devote themselves to various religious and
moral causes and even to become interested in abolition and the women s rights movement.
Eventually, both working class and bourgeois women insisted on change and contributed to the
success of feminism. This success still is not total, and, as we all know, even in the industrialized
countries women continue to fight for equal rights. Today, however, in addition to economic issues,
problems of sexual self determination have come to the foreground.
It must be remembered, of course, that the relatively liberated and affluent women of Europe and
North America are only a small minority of women in the world today. Women in many non Western
countries, and especially in the so called Third World generally live in a state of subjection and misery.

There are several projects for this research opportunity. I am part of a project called Better Glass Edu ,
a project specifically for the first year researchers to get acclimated to the terms of and usage of a
neural network using machine learning algorithms. Before going in depth into the research topic we
must first understand what Machine learning is. Machine learning is an application of artificial
intelligence that Provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience. It
focuses on the development of computer programs that can access data and use it learn for themselves.
A more practical way it is feeding a computer program a set of datapoints. The computer program uses

Random forests are an ensemble of Decision Trees. This algorithm trains multiple decision trees and
has them vote on the final output of the model. Pros of this algorithms are that it is very unlikely to
overfit. In order for overfitting to occur, a majority of classifiers would have to misclassify an
instance, a majority of weights would have to be incorrect in regression. The basic idea behind a
neural network(similar to a human brain) is to copy, in a simplified but reasonably way, lots of densely
interconnected brain cells inside a computer so you can get it to learn things, recognize patterns, and
make decisions in a humanlike way. The amazing thing about a neural network is that you don t have
to program it to learn explicitly: it learns all by itself, just like a brain!
But it isn t a brain. It s important to note that neural networks are (generally) software simulations:
they re made by programming very ordinary computers, working in a very traditional fashion with
their ordinary transistors and serially connected logic gates, to behave as though they re built from
billions of highly interconnected brain cells working in parallel. Computer simulations are just
collections of algebraic variables and mathematical equations linking them together. They mean
nothing whatsoever to the computers they run inside only to the people who program them, so there is

Pseudonymous Writing
Introduction: Pseudonymous Writing in the Ancient and Present Times Pseudopigrapha is a type of
writing where the author uses a different name for several purposes. It has been practiced in numerous
educational disciplines. In the earlier part of history, there are two types of pseudonymous writing that
was employed. The first type is when the author uses an assumed name to remain anonymous and the
second type is when an author uses the name of another author. The pseudonymous writing is widely
used for varied reasons, mostly with honest intentions. The second type of pseudopigrapha is known
as forgery, and through the course of history, its definition and function has evolved. In ancient times,
forgery is an honorable practice of writing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, several factors have to be considered. The considerations are needed to be put in place is to
put forgery in the accurate context. In the ancient times when copyright laws are not yet enforced,
forgery is an acceptable practice. Taussig argued that committing forgery is not rooted in fraudulence
but inferred as an honorable convention. Further, Ehrman synthesized the use of forgery to empower
the teachings of an influential individual, synonymous to Paul s clout in the early Christianity. Having
these occurrences in mind, we can then maintain the trustworthiness of the Deutero Pauline Epistles in
the same value as we put on the epistles that were penned by Paul himself. Learning these cogitations,
it is important that we look at the message of the epistles and its significance in the formation of the
faith tradition. Although the abovementioned epistles are written by different individuals (other than
Paul), they have augmented the theology that was taught by Paul. The epistles were written in the
context of the audiences that they were intended, because of this, forgery did not connote any negative
feedback on its teachings. In this light then, it more important to focus on the message that Deutero
Pauline Epistles convey than to look at

The Development of Empathy
The Development of Empathy

Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught

Student: Vanessa Anseline
Introduction
Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize
(Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism,
collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime,
violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for
others, the development of empathy requires a lifelong process of relational interaction (Szalavitz
Perry, 2010). More importantly, the first relationship humans experience, the ... Show more content on

The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one s own mental
competence in order to react (or not) to the affective states of others (Decety Meyer, 2010).
This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical
models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we
will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and
emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of
attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the
infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to
discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated
with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little
research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies
of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies.
Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to
prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in
which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). From the first
hour after birth, babies can imitate several

decreases pain is unknown. However, theory supported in animal studies shows the analgesic effects
of sucrose can be reversed by using naltrexone. Further studies show that infants who were born to
mothers being treated with methadone did not demonstrate the same analgesic effects from sucrose.
These findings are essential in demonstrating that the decrease in pain is not similar to the response
elicited by non nutritive (NNS) sucking and decrease pain through activation of a different
neurological pathway. The main point is the effect of sucrose on pain relief is linked to the sweetness
of the solution, as seen with other sweetening solutions such as glucose (McCall, DeCristofaro, Elliott,

electronically view production processes in real time from virtually anywhere in the world, funds are
able to be transferred with the click of a button, and a school girl in Tokyo can see the latest U.S.

Many global companies have had success and failure in the global market place, such as The Walt

Today the Walt Disney Company is the world s largest media conglomerate, with assets encompassing

opened in 1923, originally known as The Disney Brother Studio, as a simple cartoon studio. On
November 18, 1928, Disney released an animated film, Steamboat Willie, featuring the now infamous

feature length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, on December 21, 1937. Over the
next decade or so additional films were released adding to the value of The Walt Disney Company.

The Pros And Cons Of Smoking In Public Places
Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places
Most of the time non smokers happen to be at places where people are allowed to smoke publicly, one
will agree that the habit is irritating. Many different states in the United States and the world as a
whole have drafted laws to control the habit of public smoking (Dugan, 2013). Some countries or
states have gone ahead to ban smoking in public entirely. The move to ban smoking in public is a
prudent one, because it will help save countless lives. The reasons behind the prohibition on smoking
in public are that the habit affects non smokers as well as put their lives in danger and this is equal to
effects that smoking has on the active smoker.
Smoking in public puts the lives of non smokers at risk. In simple terms, the second hand smoke that
the active smoker exhales can cause health side effects to the non smoker. Research has shown that the
second hand smoke contains more than seven thousand different chemicals that are toxic and among
these chemicals, seventy are cancer causing chemicals (U.S. Department of Health Human Services
n.p.). This means that being exposed to this smoke is not safe at all as you inhale the toxic chemicals.

want to smoke can do it at these places. The banning of public smoking can impact negatively on

smoking would also keep away people from visiting the places leading them to carry their smoking
habits home and this equally has bad effects on the family members. Similarly, based on the fact that
smoking tobacco is legal, the government needs not to control its consumption by restricting smokers.

Mass Reproduction and Cultural Eradication
In the reading The Work of Art in the Age of It s Technological Reproducibility , by W. Benjamin he
expresses his point of view on the loss of the traditional aspect and aura of art that is seen within today
s society. He also speaks about the way that photography has become a device for the mass
reproduction of images and has begun to eliminate this aspect of authenticity that places an image in a
specific place and time. The person that is behind the camera forces people to see what he or she
wants them to see. It changes the moral and traditional conventions that may have once been
associated with an image. In his article he doesn t completely reject this idea of reproduction he also

Adorno and M. Horkheimer s article, The Culture Industry they discuss the way culture has become
commodified and changes the perception of the audience. For example in Hollywood films, many
movies are given various titles but the overall production of the film seems to form a unified and
repetitive outlook. We as the audience begin to lose the cultural aspect and meaning that is associated
with these films. They argue that the commodification of culture has come to form an entirely new
capitalist society that seems to focus on the domination of the medium rather than the nature of
humanities cultural, social and moral values. Both of these articles draw on points of reproduction and
its affect on society, but they also differ in the means of what is being created through this loss of
tradition and aura. Benjamin talks about a new perception being formed through this loss whereas
Adorno and Horkheimer emphasize that this loss of culture is not providing new perceptions of art
through film and photography by the use of the camera, but instead is commodifying the aesthetic

The Principles And Practices Of Differential Diagnosis Of...
A disorder in bilinguals is not caused by bilingualism or cured by monolingualism (Kohnert, 2013). A
common misconception about bilingual children is that the acquisition of subsequent languages causes
or exacerbates a speech sound disorder. I intended to prove that this is not the case. In order to do this
I will firstly clarify the principles and practices of differential diagnosis of Speech Sound Disorders
and the possible models used. I then intend to compare and contrast monolingualism and bilingualism
with reference to Speech Sound disorders. Throughout, I will relate the information back to Jane and
the data provided before finally discussing possible assessments for Jane.
What is a Speech Sound Disorder? There is a myriad of definitions and ways to describe disordered
speech. To put it simply; speech is the physical production of sounds through a series of air pressure
waves in the vocal tract. A disorder is a difficulty or the manner in which speech is not found in
typically developing children (Pert Stow, 2015). The term Speech Sound Disorder is very much a
generic label. It encompasses a heterogeneous population including children whose speech is
intelligible but may have a lisp. It also includes those whose speech is incomprehensible due to
omissions and substitutions of certain phonemes and people born with anatomical abnormalities such
as cleft palate. (Dodd, Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Children With Speech Disorder, 2005)

to conclude that fructose has a much greater implication in the aging process than glucose, taking the
glycosylation of haemoglobin as an assay for this. [1]
As a reducing sugar, fructose reacts with protein molecules to form toxic advanced glycation end
products (AGEs) to a much greater extent than other sugars, which appears to contribute not only to
the aging process but also play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications in diabetic patients
such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and others. Supplementing the diet of healthy male
volunteers with 3g of fructose per kg of body weight per day resulted in insulin resistance developing
in as little as six days. A study carried out in non diabetic rats fed a diet containing 68% carbohydrate,
provided as fructose, shows that almost all retinas from the rats showed pathologic changes that were
histologically indistinguishable from diabetic retinopathy. [1]

Dentistry: A Reason for a Big Smile

Everybody has experienced the roaring pain in the back of his or her mouth at one point in their lives.
It is the ache that doesn t seem to go away no matter how careful one might be. At this moment, a
person knows that he or she needs help to terminate the throbbing that has literally taken over the
entirety of their mouth. They need a dentist to stop the anguish. Luckily, dentistry offices are located
in almost all communities throughout the nation which makes it more convenient for someone to go
get his or her teeth checked out. Dentists work with areas of the mouth including the teeth, gums, and
other tissues. Dentistry is absolutely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More money means more work!
There are many different areas in the field of dentistry; a DDS is the main dentistry accomplishment
for an everyday practitioner, however, many choose to step above the normal and become something
greater. Other fields, such as Orthodontics, Periodontists, Oral pathologists, and Pedodontists are
another big step on the dentistry ladder. To accomplish each of these degrees, a person must go back to
school for at least two more years. It is fantastic to think about all of the opportunity that can come to
a person for taking that extra step. Unfortunately, though, a very low percentage of DDS actually go
the extra step to making more money and this is because after going to school for eight extra years of
their lives, who wouldn t want to be content? For this reason, the normal practitioner s increases in
salary will come from raising their fees and/or passing on rising costs to the consumer (Description
Para 11).
The job outlook is good for the dentistry profession because there will always be people who have
teeth that need to be looked at and there will always be a need for people who can skillfully work
inside one s mouth. The pay is also very good according to Reilender who states that one may earn up
to $100,000 starting out as a practitioner (11). Once a person is well into his or her career, he or she

The Importance Of Hispanic And Hispanic Cultures In America
America is a growing country with people and technological advancements. As the country grows, the
population increases, which involves a mixture of cultures. Hispanic and Latino Americans now stand
at 17% of the population, which is the smallest percentile. (Latino/Hispanic Culture in the
U.S...Interchange) Even though Hispanics and Latinos are the smallest ethnic group, they have
influenced America. Through traditions and cuisines, the culture is changing and adjusting to modern
America, which changes the originality of the culture. The cultural changes have also occurred in their
celebrations, superstitions, and family. Traditions that began generations ago are still evolving and
prospering.
Hispanics are widely known for their festivals, which consist of bright colors and celebration. A
common celebration that is thrown is called a quinceanera, which is a coming of age party thrown for
a girl turning fifteen. The family goes all out and the average cost is anywhere between $5000 to
$20000.(HIspanic Traditions) She wears a pastel colored dress, receives a quinceanera doll, dances
with male family members, and receives gifts. She will choose fourteen male friends and fourteen
female friends to escort her to the dance, they are called damas and chambelanes. This traditional
event is meant for most hispanic girls, but because of the expenses a majority of families only throw
one for the eldest daughter. The American version is a sweet sixteen, where a party

Disadvantages Of Team Training
Team Training
Team building and team training is quite an effective way of keeping the morale, of team members, up
and their individual capabilities, in parallel to the objectives of a whole team. Being a part of the
business that values the team building the same as it does in the case of gathering new customers, is
really something which only the luckier ones get. Believe us! There are many team building methods
that a brand can use for increasing the team bonding and thus leading to a productivity level, even
higher than before. But of all the methods, team training is the most effective one. In this method, the
performance of the individuals, who are working towards a common goal, is coordinated in such a
way that one member s capabilities supports the other member.

These goals and objectives change as the team grows in different stages, i.e. forming stage, storming
stage, and norming stage. Each stage features its own reasoning, advantages, and disadvantages. For
example, the forming stage deals with binding the group, so that the group members get to know each
other and begin to have a sense of what an actual team looks like. It also focuses on aligning the
individual purposes so that they reinforce each other s goals as if they have shared targets. Moreover,
the roles of the leader are also established here.
The storming stage takes the objectives of the forming stage to a level above while adding more to it.
This stage ensures that all the members are enjoying good working relationships with each other and
are capable of sharing thoughts without any difficulty. This leads to nurturing the shared problem
solving skills and assists in the generation of new ideas. In this stage and from here on, short term
objectives and milestones are used to get a clear picture of how the team is performing

Berlin Wall Symbolism
The Soviet Union in conjunction with East German authorities started constructing the Berlin Wall in
1961. This wall separated East and West Berlin. East Germany, desiring to prove to the world that
Marxism and communism were viable systems for running a country, decided to keep its citizens from
fleeing to the West,. The Wall failed to accomplish this, and fell on November 9, 1989. This was a key
moment that marked the end of the Cold War. While the Wall was still up, many problems persisted
between the eastern and western parts of Germany. In many ways, East and West Germany were polar
opposites. The Berlin Wall was symbolic of the political, economic, and ideological divisions that
existed between East and West Germany.
The Berlin Wall symbolized the political differences between East and West Germany. East Germany
was ruled by Marxism, while West Germany was a free democratic state. Many East Germans were
not fond of their circumstances, and as a result, they fled to West Germany. Around 2.7 million East
Germans fled to the West ( The construction of the Berlin Wall ). The East was on the brink of social
collapse because of this. East Germans were oppressed, while West Germans had many rights. A
picture from German Missions in the United States shows a peaceful protest against the construction
of the Wall ( Images of the Berlin Wall 4). Three little boys hold a sign which translates to freedom in
English. This picture exemplifies how many East Germans disapproved of the construction of the
Berlin Wall, and wanted to be one with West Germany. The Berlin Wall represented the contrast in
politics between the two German states. Secondly, the Berlin Wall demonstrated the economic
differences between East and West Germany. East Germany was ruled by communist. West Germany
was capitalist. West Germans had many freedoms economically, such as private individuals being in
control of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth, and owning private property. In East
Germany, all means of production were state owned. People leaving the GDR caused increasing
difficulties for the ruling communist party ( The construction of the Berlin Wall ). The millions of
people who fled the East almost led to its

Why are you taking this course?
What do you hope to gain from this course?
What is your musical background and what type of music do you prefer to listen to?
I ve always have had an affinity for all sorts of music; growing up in the Bronx, I ve been exposed to
all sorts of genres, from Classical, Blues, Jazz, Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Hip Hop, etc. Every Genre I
ve heard and come to appreciate every single one of them for what they do; they move the person,
makes them feel part of something greater than themselves and it does not doesn t matter what genre it
can be, but music can be that universal translator for everyone. For me, taking this course, I personally
want to broaden my knowledge in the history of music, how did it evolve from the 70 s up, and thus
understand why it happened the way it did. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

minority in the Bronx, the concrete Jungle, I did not have a lot of opportunities, thus it was hard for

opportunity, just as in the song he sings in his opening lyrics: Look, if you had one shot or one

Essay on Cultural and Financial Management
This paper will scrutinizes the actual impact of culture on financial management. Before I proceed to
what I believe to be not only a factually inept argument of cultural influence on economics but also a
grossly delusional and rather prejudiced view as well, I must first set some sort of context to what I
am alluding to. The assignment stipulates for me to, address if the framework of financial
management can apply to any country or culture. The simple and short answer to this is no , financial
management is different depending on the country and or culture. For example Germans don t buy
into the same type of capital structure that North Americans do, nor do Muslims have the same type of
financial system to that of the west. Simply put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opponents of Marx say that he inverted the correlation of culture and economic relations (Guiso,
Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.5). In other words these opponents of Marx think that culture dictates the
financial system and or economy. Although at first glance this may seem like a silly argument akin to
nature vs. nurture and origins of which came first the chicken or the egg, corresponding into nothing
more than, probably some level of both or worse an irrelevant loop, there is nevertheless an important
fundamental difference to the exact correlation of culture and the economy. Thus, I proclaim that Marx
is not only factually correct, (economy supersedes culture) but morally as well. Marx is factually
correct because I can use his hypothesis to logically dispute all claims that culture supersedes the
economy. The first prominent opponent of Marx s theory in favour of culture was Max Weber who
stipulated that the Protestant Reformation taught that the pursuit of wealth should be regarded not
merely as an advantage, but as a duty (Guiso, Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.6). This meant that the
Protestants reinforced with a new cultural imperative went on to become financially stronger. If Marx
was still alive he would have scoffed at such an exaggerated claim, stating that if it was not for the
invention of the printing press, which caused the Catholic Church to lose its monopoly on scripture,
then such a reformation would never have happened. Also the changing economic

Who Is Sir Isaac Newton
Sir Isaac Newton was a mathematician and an English scientist. He is considered to be one of the most
intelligent people of all time. He formulated the law of universal gravitation and wrote the laws of
motion. Newton developed a form of calculus and contributed to the study of light.
Isaac Newton was born premature December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, England. His birth was after
the death of his illiterate father and during a time of political unrest in England. Civil wars were
plaguing the area the Isaac Newton was from. When Isaac was three his mother remarried and left his
grandparents to raise him. Eight years later, when Isaac was twelve, his stepfather died. At that time he
was able to live with his mother again.

This led to the hypotheses that the force that pulled the apple was also responsible for keeping the
Moon in orbit around Earth. This was a unique idea of the era because most people believed in the
theory of the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 322 B.C.), who had said that the heavenly
bodies obeyed different physical laws than objects on Earth. Newton suggested all bodies responded
to the same physical laws, no matter where they were. During his stay on the farm he also, conducted
optical experiments that aided his account of white lights and colors. In 1667 Newton became a fellow
of Trinity College at Cambridge University where his incredible knowledge was first recognized by
his mathematics professor, Isaac Barrow, when in 1669, after resigning from his former job to become
entirely committed to theology, recommended that Newton be his successor. Newton progressed to a
mathematic Lucasian professor at the age of only 27 and continued to do his teaching at Trinity for the
duration of his professing career. Sir Isaac Newton unfortunately passed away on March 20, 1727 in
Kensington, England at the age of 83. He has changed and influenced the law of physics for many

Lucretia Mott Accomplishments
All throughout human history, many public figures have stood up against human rights towards both
women and men, but not many have impacted society as much as Lucretia Mott, a quaker, who is
widely popular for her positions on various politically sensitive subjects at the time, such as civil
rights for all races and a feminist as well. Lucretia Mott was one of the most famous civil and women
s rights leaders in all of the 1800s, only thanks to her perseverance did many black people were given
the right to vote, a right later given to all women thanks only to the efforts and sacrifices done only by
Lucretia Mott. First of all, the challenges faced by Lucretia Mott in order for her to achieve her goal
were at first spectacularly problematic, with many men and women, even those within her own group
and/or her cause, causing conflict with her due to a lack of understanding between both as well as
tensions due to their ideology. Lucretia Mott s main goal was to provide economical opportunities to
those who were unemployed, women, and people she sought to improve their lives under her civil
rights movement policy, who mainly were former and current slaves whom she wanted to be freed
from their slave owners. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is Compounding Pharmacy
What is a compounding Pharmacy? What are its benefits?
What is pharmacy compounding?
Pharmacy compounding is the practice of manufacturing personalized drugs for patients when they
may not be capable of using a commercially available medicine, or they may require a medicine,
which is currently not available or discontinued.
What exactly is Compounding Pharmacy?
A compounding Pharmacy prepares compounded drugs, according to the prescription of medical
practitioners. These drugs may be a blend of ingredients, which are included in the medicines in exact
dosage and potency according to the needs of patients.
What is the aim of a Compounding Pharmacy?
The aim of an approved compounding pharmacy is to offer premium nutritional supplements and bio
identical hormone treatments for patients in the form of capsules, tablets, lotions, and creams. These
pharmacies will prepare drugs by combining different active pharmaceutical grade constituents, as
recommended by any registered and qualified healthcare practitioner, into exact dosage and strength
forms according to the individual needs of patients. Both state and federal authorities control all

Saint Augustine s Deduction that Free Will is a Good Gift...
Saint Augustine s Deduction that Free Will is a Good Gift from God
Before the central theme of this essay is analytically summarized, it is important to note a few
propositions already established in the conversations between Saint Augustine and Evodius. Firstly,
Saint Augustine has already ascertained that God gave human beings free choice of the will Evodius is
also sure of this proposition. He deduces that since our existence came from God, then it must be God
who gave us free will. Secondly, Augustine then questions Evodius on how he knows that our
existence comes from God. His answer begs the question as he ... Show more content on

Evodius notes that our free will could also be used wrongly. This jeopardizes the second proposition
that all good things come from God. Augustine rebuts this argument of Evodius by giving another
example. He states that a great good is missing from the body with no hands and yet people can use
their hands wrongly (i.e., by committing violent/shameful acts). Augustine is still begging the
question. He states that it is better to have something which be used for just and unjust acts the not
possess it at all. From this statement, however, one can conclude that free will is not a good thing in
itself because it can lead to wrong or unjust acts.
Saint Augustine was a Christian, and a brief and simple counterexample from his religious perspective
could prove this proposition to be false. Augustine states that a great good is missing if someone lost
their hands or eyes, which both could be used for good and bad purposes. Yet, Jesus philosophy states
that it is better to not have something which is causing one to sin or commit unjust acts. Jesus says that
it is better to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with one good hand than one good and one bad hand. This
would also imply that the bad hand was a bad gift from God.
Further in the discussion, Saint Augustine goes on to say that free will is a good gift since no one can
live

  • 2. Research Paper On Orion Orion is my favorite constellation because it is one of the easiest to find and most recognizable. This makes it one of the most popular constellations. Orion s belt includes the three brightest stars in the sky. In the Northern Hemisphere, Orion is a fall and winter constellation, visible from November to February. One of Orion s stars is actually a nebula, the Orion nebula. The creation myth for Orion comes from Greek mythology. Orion was a famous hunter. There are several different myths about Orion s birth, life, and death. The version I read as a child stated that Orion was a son of Poseidon, and because of this, he could walk on water. He was an amazing hunter, and always made sure to show respect to Artemis, the goddess of hunting. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Muir and Wordsworth Essay Lesson 06.09 Assessment Thesis Statement, Opening Paragraph, evidence conclusion REVISED While both poets Muir and Wordsworth wrote about the happy feelings that they have towards nature the beautiful outdoors or what some people may say Mother Nature, some of which the feelings are the same and some that are different as they speak of the different plants. In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks. John Muir Nature does not only show the beauty of the Earth, but it shows the beauty within us. So then, is it not easy to say that both of these authors have great beauty within them? After reading both Calypso Borealis, John Muir and I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth, I can boldly state that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Muir creatively informs the reader just how much the main character truly loves nature. The same marvel and beauty is shared in the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. After a long climb over a high hill he finds his reward a valley shining with a huge field of daffodils. Besides the lakes, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. As Wordsworth explains the scene. As each scene pops out of the poem, a new addition to the painting in your mind appears each time. The painting may vary from person to person, but I believe the same sense of awe is present with every mind. The portions cited are just the beginning of these two works; enough to splash your mind with colors and emotions, but later parts are what truly makes them worth reading. Calypso Borealis turns from revelation to a desperate situation. Weary and empty, the main character prepares to spend the night in the wet swamp, in a tree nest. Just as the sun was about to set, the future very unpredictable, when Everything seemed most dangerous and discouraging , the story continues, I found beautiful Calypso on the mossy bank of stream. Overwhelmed by the purity and beauty of the Calypso, he collapses by the flower and cries. This rather quick change of pace I what kept me reading, and the fact the Calypso was so beautiful it made the main character break down in tears. Imagine finding the glorious treasure you ve been seeking the entire time. The change of tone from depressing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Juvenile Diabetes When it comes to diabetes, there are multiple types of diabetes. Some of the different types are Type1, Type 2, and Gestational, Diabetes LADA, Diabetes MODY, Double Diabetes, Type 3 Diabetes, Steroid Included Diabetes, Brittle Diabetes, Secondary Diabetes, Diabetes Insipidus and Juvenile Diabetes. All of these diabetes do have something in common. They all cause the blood glucose levels to go higher than normal. This condition can apply to anyone of any age level. Over 382 million people in the world have diabetes. From 1990 2010 diabetes prevention has improved greatly including death. With Type 1 diabetes, insulin is not produced through the body. Out of the 382 million with diabetes, 10% have Type 1. Type 1 is usually found in children and young adults. The body breaks down sugar and starches that you eat into glucose, which is used for energy. People with this type of diabetes is treated with insulin injections for the duration of the diabetes. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the blood stream into the cells of the body. If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, your body does not use insulin properly, which is called insulin resistance. Out of all the cases of diabetes, 90% of it is type 2. The symptoms for type 2 diabetes are controllable by doing plenty of exercises, following a healthy diet, losing weight, and monitoring our blood glucose levels. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive disease. It gets worse and some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cultural Values And The Dominant Culture When looking to understand one s culture in comparison to the dominant culture it is important to take into consideration a variety of cultural values. In comparing myself to the dominant culture in the United States I have found both similarities as well as differences between my worldviews and the majority worldview. In order to fully assess how I have come to acquire my worldviews it is important to look into contextual and circumstantial factors that have shaped me as an individual. American culture values individualism where putting yourself first is seen as the norm. In comparison, Hispanic cultures value the family, or a group dynamic, rather than each person as an individual entity (Kirst Ashman, 2013, p. 457). I am close with my family and value the family dynamic we have as a group; however, I believe that I must first take care of myself in order to be able to help out others. In addition, competition is valued by dominant American culture. In America winning is everything (Scott, 2015). Although I value individualism, I am the least competitive person I know. I believe that this stems from placing value on myself for myself (and well being) rather than for others or in comparison to others. When focusing on the individual it is easy to place high importance upon one s status within society. American culture places high value upon credentials, titles, roles, and material possessions that create each person s power status. It would be absurd for me to say that my ... After receiving my Arrow of Light, I moved into Boy Scouts. I initially joined Troop 842, but when the opportunity came to start a new troop with my best friends, I transferred to the tiny Troop 845. I have seen my troop grow as I ve gotten older and moved through the scouting ranks. I served as a leader in my troop, serving as a Troop Guide for several terms, an ASPL (twice), and finally SPL. In addition to troop leadership, I have been crew leader for two high adventure trips and will be the SPL for the Circle 10 Jamboree Troop this summer. • 7. Compatibility Of Confucianism With The Rule Of Law Question 8: Compatibility of Confucianism with the rule of law Introduction Since the early days of man, different societies have had different mechanisms of dealing with individual that go against accepted norms. These norms formed part of the basic education mechanism that a society practised to in the past. Foreign practises were however introduced during the colonial error when the colonial master imposed their own conflict resolution system on the different society. After the assimilation of the foreign system, researchers have now turned their attention to testing whether those systems are compatible with the traditionally practised mechanism within a society. A significant example of such a dilemma is on assessing whether Confucianism is compatible with the rule of law. The two system represent societies that are different and practised by individual that do not share any historical relationship. The growth of an international community has led to the adaptation of the rule of law by most if not all nations in the world. The paper seeks to find out whether Confucianism is compatible with the rule of law and how the two systems can be adopted by a society. In order to assess the possibility of compatibility, it is important to first understand how the two system works individually. The analysis will involve the assessment of the whole functionality of the two policies. Confucianism Confucianism refers to the social, ethical and political teaching that were developed ... • 9. Compare And Contrast The Tzar And Trotsky The Enemy of my Enemy The premise of the Russian Revolution was to achieve economic and political equality through Marxism, but were the Revolutionaries successful in eliminating class warfare and a hierarchical system? Marxist theory states that revolution is a natural process of social classes being oppressed and their desire to overcome this oppression, but in the process of overcoming their oppression, they will, in turn, oppress other social classes. This natural process of revolution would eventually lead to socialism, or economic equality, where there will be no hierarchical system. Social class warfare and a steep hierarchical system are prominent in autocratic governments, such as the Russian Tzarist regime. Trotsky s The Tzar and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When enemies join forces and defeat a larger, common enemy, the fact remains that they will resume fighting when they have defeated the common enemy. The common enemy, in this case, was the autocratic Tzarist regime and the enemies that allied were the Bolsheviks and non Bolsheviks, which include fellow Marxists and capitalists. The toppling of the [Tzar] did not in itself bring the hoped for democratic freedoms for women. The dual authorities, the Soviets and the Provisional Government, that emerged with the end of autocracy both temporized on women s suffrage. (Ruthchild, 240). This shows that problems continued even after the Tzarist regime ended. The dual powers disappointed many and resulted in the Russian Civil War. The Bolshevik Revolution is perceived to be a proletariat socialist revolution but it was far from creating equality. It was another group seeking to oppress as they have been oppressed. Although there were many instances where the Revolution had brought together groups of people with differing political views and social standings, Lenin s party, [the Bolsheviks in power,] would not give up power even if it lost working class support...a socialist party taking power prematurely would find itself isolated and forced into repressive dictatorship (Fitzpatrick, 67). At the same time, middle and upper class women were increasingly confined to the home with little to do except to take care of their children. Their husbands no longer worked inside the house, but were absent during most of the day. These idle women often played the role of frail, sensitive creatures who had the vapours and fainted in any indelicate situation. On the other hand, many of them also became critical of their position in society. They found time to devote themselves to various religious and moral causes and even to become interested in abolition and the women s rights movement. Eventually, both working class and bourgeois women insisted on change and contributed to the success of feminism. This success still is not total, and, as we all know, even in the industrialized countries women continue to fight for equal rights. Today, however, in addition to economic issues, problems of sexual self determination have come to the foreground. It must be remembered, of course, that the relatively liberated and affluent women of Europe and North America are only a small minority of women in the world today. Women in many non Western countries, and especially in the so called Third World generally live in a state of subjection and misery. Most of their energy is consumed by a hard and unrelenting struggle for sheer survival. Thus, for them, any talk about sexual liberation in the Western sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am part of a project called Better Glass Edu , a project specifically for the first year researchers to get acclimated to the terms of and usage of a neural network using machine learning algorithms. Before going in depth into the research topic we must first understand what Machine learning is. Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence that Provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience. It focuses on the development of computer programs that can access data and use it learn for themselves. A more practical way it is feeding a computer program a set of datapoints. The computer program uses various algorithms to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Random forests are an ensemble of Decision Trees. This algorithm trains multiple decision trees and has them vote on the final output of the model. Pros of this algorithms are that it is very unlikely to overfit. In order for overfitting to occur, a majority of classifiers would have to misclassify an instance, a majority of weights would have to be incorrect in regression. The basic idea behind a neural network(similar to a human brain) is to copy, in a simplified but reasonably way, lots of densely interconnected brain cells inside a computer so you can get it to learn things, recognize patterns, and make decisions in a humanlike way. The amazing thing about a neural network is that you don t have to program it to learn explicitly: it learns all by itself, just like a brain! But it isn t a brain. It s important to note that neural networks are (generally) software simulations: they re made by programming very ordinary computers, working in a very traditional fashion with their ordinary transistors and serially connected logic gates, to behave as though they re built from billions of highly interconnected brain cells working in parallel. Computer simulations are just collections of algebraic variables and mathematical equations linking them together. They mean nothing whatsoever to the computers they run inside only to the people who program them, so there is no threat of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Pseudonymous Writing Introduction: Pseudonymous Writing in the Ancient and Present Times Pseudopigrapha is a type of writing where the author uses a different name for several purposes. It has been practiced in numerous educational disciplines. In the earlier part of history, there are two types of pseudonymous writing that was employed. The first type is when the author uses an assumed name to remain anonymous and the second type is when an author uses the name of another author. The pseudonymous writing is widely used for varied reasons, mostly with honest intentions. The second type of pseudopigrapha is known as forgery, and through the course of history, its definition and function has evolved. In ancient times, forgery is an honorable practice of writing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, several factors have to be considered. The considerations are needed to be put in place is to put forgery in the accurate context. In the ancient times when copyright laws are not yet enforced, forgery is an acceptable practice. Taussig argued that committing forgery is not rooted in fraudulence but inferred as an honorable convention. Further, Ehrman synthesized the use of forgery to empower the teachings of an influential individual, synonymous to Paul s clout in the early Christianity. Having these occurrences in mind, we can then maintain the trustworthiness of the Deutero Pauline Epistles in the same value as we put on the epistles that were penned by Paul himself. Learning these cogitations, it is important that we look at the message of the epistles and its significance in the formation of the faith tradition. Although the abovementioned epistles are written by different individuals (other than Paul), they have augmented the theology that was taught by Paul. The epistles were written in the context of the audiences that they were intended, because of this, forgery did not connote any negative feedback on its teachings. In this light then, it more important to focus on the message that Deutero Pauline Epistles convey than to look at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Development of Empathy The Development of Empathy a literature review [pic] Empathy cannot be taught, but it can be caught Mary Gordon Student: Vanessa Anseline Introduction Empathy and caring is an essential part of human health. We love because we can empathize (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). Empathy underlies everything that makes society work; such as altruism, collaboration, love and charity. Failures to empathize are a key part of social problems, such as crime, violence, war, racism, child abuse and inequity. Although we are genetically predisposed to care for others, the development of empathy requires a lifelong process of relational interaction (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). More importantly, the first relationship humans experience, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The metacognitive feedback plays an important role in taking into account one s own mental competence in order to react (or not) to the affective states of others (Decety Meyer, 2010). This literature review of the emergence of empathy does not adhere to any particular theoretical models, but to summarize research findings about what contributes to empathic responses. Firstly, we will focus on infants early social interactions. We focus on imitation, emotion matching, and emotional contagion as precursors of empathy. These support the formation of strong bonds of attachment with primary caregivers. This relationship promotes reciprocal responsiveness in the infant. Following a section on emotional attunement, we discuss research relating to infants abilities to discriminate emotions. Responses to other people s displays of emotion are discussed and associated with prosocial behaviour and the cognitive skills that support its development. While there is little research addressing the neurobiology of empathy during infancy, links are proposed between studies of infant behaviour and neurospscyhology studies. Imitation, Emotion Matching, and Mirror Neurons Babies are born with two important skills to prepare them for empathy the ability to begin to imitate facial gestures and the automatic responses in which the cries of other infants causes another infant to cry (Szalavitz Perry, 2010). From the first hour after birth, babies can imitate several

These findings are essential in demonstrating that the decrease in pain is not similar to the response elicited by non nutritive (NNS) sucking and decrease pain through activation of a different neurological pathway. The global expansion is made possible through new levels of technology allowing global businesses more efficiencies than in the past. Although operating on a global scale creates many new challenges that businesses need to analyze before entering a market in order to reduce profit loss and even failure. The Pros And Cons Of Smoking In Public Places Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places Most of the time non smokers happen to be at places where people are allowed to smoke publicly, one will agree that the habit is irritating. Many different states in the United States and the world as a whole have drafted laws to control the habit of public smoking (Dugan, 2013). Some countries or states have gone ahead to ban smoking in public entirely. The move to ban smoking in public is a prudent one, because it will help save countless lives. The reasons behind the prohibition on smoking in public are that the habit affects non smokers as well as put their lives in danger and this is equal to effects that smoking has on the active smoker. Smoking in public puts the lives of non smokers at risk. In simple terms, the second hand smoke that the active smoker exhales can cause health side effects to the non smoker. Research has shown that the second hand smoke contains more than seven thousand different chemicals that are toxic and among these chemicals, seventy are cancer causing chemicals (U.S. Department of Health Human Services n.p.). This means that being exposed to this smoke is not safe at all as you inhale the toxic chemicals. These toxic chemicals are present even when one inhales a little passed ... The banning of public smoking can impact negatively on businesses such as bars and restaurant that permit people to smoke (Sullum, 1998). The banning of smoking would also keep away people from visiting the places leading them to carry their smoking habits home and this equally has bad effects on the family members. Benjamin he expresses his point of view on the loss of the traditional aspect and aura of art that is seen within today s society. He also speaks about the way that photography has become a device for the mass reproduction of images and has begun to eliminate this aspect of authenticity that places an image in a specific place and time. The person that is behind the camera forces people to see what he or she wants them to see. It changes the moral and traditional conventions that may have once been associated with an image. In his article he doesn t completely reject this idea of reproduction he also expands on the idea that although authenticity is an issue, within film you are able to do what paintings cannot. ... We as the audience begin to lose the cultural aspect and meaning that is associated with these films. They argue that the commodification of culture has come to form an entirely new capitalist society that seems to focus on the domination of the medium rather than the nature of humanities cultural, social and moral values. Both of these articles draw on points of reproduction and its affect on society, but they also differ in the means of what is being created through this loss of tradition and aura. A common misconception about bilingual children is that the acquisition of subsequent languages causes or exacerbates a speech sound disorder. I intended to prove that this is not the case. In order to do this I will firstly clarify the principles and practices of differential diagnosis of Speech Sound Disorders and the possible models used. I then intend to compare and contrast monolingualism and bilingualism with reference to Speech Sound disorders. Throughout, I will relate the information back to Jane and the data provided before finally discussing possible assessments for Jane. What is a Speech Sound Disorder? There is a myriad of definitions and ways to describe disordered speech. To put it simply; speech is the physical production of sounds through a series of air pressure waves in the vocal tract. A disorder is a difficulty or the manner in which speech is not found in typically developing children (Pert Stow, 2015). The term Speech Sound Disorder is very much a generic label. It encompasses a heterogeneous population including children whose speech is intelligible but may have a lisp. It also includes those whose speech is incomprehensible due to omissions and substitutions of certain phonemes and people born with anatomical abnormalities such as cleft palate. • 23. The Effect Of Fructose On The Aging Process indefinitely on long lived molecules such as collagen and DNA. Evidence suggests that these AGE molecules play a role in the aging process. The Maillard process is dependent on the reactivity of the sugar involved. Fructose is much more reactive than glucose. In vivo, the rate of non enzymatic glycosylation of haemoglobin was 7.5 greater, and the rate of protein cross linking (a marker of aging) was 10 times greater, in the presence of fructose than in the presence of glucose. Therefore, it is safe to conclude that fructose has a much greater implication in the aging process than glucose, taking the glycosylation of haemoglobin as an assay for this. [1] As a reducing sugar, fructose reacts with protein molecules to form toxic advanced glycation end products (AGEs) to a much greater extent than other sugars, which appears to contribute not only to the aging process but also play a role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications in diabetic patients such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and others. Supplementing the diet of healthy male volunteers with 3g of fructose per kg of body weight per day resulted in insulin resistance developing in as little as six days. A study carried out in non diabetic rats fed a diet containing 68% carbohydrate, provided as fructose, shows that almost all retinas from the rats showed pathologic changes that were histologically indistinguishable from diabetic retinopathy. • 27. Berlin Wall Symbolism The Soviet Union in conjunction with East German authorities started constructing the Berlin Wall in 1961. This wall separated East and West Berlin. East Germany, desiring to prove to the world that Marxism and communism were viable systems for running a country, decided to keep its citizens from fleeing to the West,. The Wall failed to accomplish this, and fell on November 9, 1989. This was a key moment that marked the end of the Cold War. While the Wall was still up, many problems persisted between the eastern and western parts of Germany. In many ways, East and West Germany were polar opposites. The Berlin Wall was symbolic of the political, economic, and ideological divisions that existed between East and West Germany. The Berlin Wall symbolized the political differences between East and West Germany. East Germany was ruled by Marxism, while West Germany was a free democratic state. Many East Germans were not fond of their circumstances, and as a result, they fled to West Germany. Around 2.7 million East Germans fled to the West ( The construction of the Berlin Wall ). The East was on the brink of social collapse because of this. East Germans were oppressed, while West Germans had many rights. A picture from German Missions in the United States shows a peaceful protest against the construction of the Wall ( Images of the Berlin Wall 4). Marx is factually correct because I can use his hypothesis to logically dispute all claims that culture supersedes the economy. The first prominent opponent of Marx s theory in favour of culture was Max Weber who stipulated that the Protestant Reformation taught that the pursuit of wealth should be regarded not merely as an advantage, but as a duty (Guiso, Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.6). This meant that the Protestants reinforced with a new cultural imperative went on to become financially stronger. Saint Augustine s Deduction that Free Will is a Good Gift from God Before the central theme of this essay is analytically summarized, it is important to note a few propositions already established in the conversations between Saint Augustine and Evodius. Firstly, Saint Augustine has already ascertained that God gave human beings free choice of the will Evodius is also sure of this proposition. He deduces that since our existence came from God, then it must be God who gave us free will. Secondly, Augustine then questions Evodius on how he knows that our existence comes from God. His answer begs the question as he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evodius notes that our free will could also be used wrongly. This jeopardizes the second proposition that all good things come from God. Augustine rebuts this argument of Evodius by giving another example. He states that a great good is missing from the body with no hands and yet people can use their hands wrongly (i.e., by committing violent/shameful acts). Augustine is still begging the question. He states that it is better to have something which be used for just and unjust acts the not possess it at all. From this statement, however, one can conclude that free will is not a good thing in itself because it can lead to wrong or unjust acts. Saint Augustine was a Christian, and a brief and simple counterexample from his religious perspective could prove this proposition to be false. Augustine states that a great good is missing if someone lost their hands or eyes, which both could be used for good and bad purposes. Yet, Jesus philosophy states that it is better to not have something which is causing one to sin or commit unjust acts. Jesus says that it is better to enter the Kingdom of Heaven with one good hand than one good and one bad hand. This would also imply that the bad hand was a bad gift from God.
