Suicide-Personal Narrative
I told a couple people about my suicidal thoughts and the weird thing is that they get the suicide
part, but they don t get the pizza part of what I do. Yes, my band was fucked up to the point
where we broke up, which ruined my whole life plan of playing music, plus I broke up with my
girlfriend, who was the only reason I m in this fuckin country in the first place... And now, I m
here in this Southwark apartment building having my coffee on this balcony overlooking the
Thames River. OK, so I have some explaining to do before you really get what I mean. Let me
explain by backing up a couple of hours... It was 7:47 PM. I had thirteen minutes left of my shift on
this busy New Year s Eve at the Domino s Pizza on Holloway Road. The boss told me I

Summary Of Founding Brother s By Joseph Ellis
In the novel, Founding Brother s by Joseph Ellis, Ellis depicts six defining events from U.S.
History. These six events explore the challenges and realities that the American Founding Fathers
faced as they built up the American government that we know today and what occurred afterwards.
Ellis focuses the novel on the most prominent members of the Founding Fathers which include:
George Washington; John and Abigail Adams; Thomas Jefferson
; Alexander Hamilton; James
Madison; Benjamin Franklin; and Aaron Burr. Ellis examines the relationships and conflicts that
these men were faced with, and how exactly the events were affected by the conflicted time period
that they lived in and how they established their influence in American history. The first... Show

Shortly after Thomas Jefferson s dinner arrangement, petitions were sent to the House of
Representatives that called for an end to the African slave trade business. Many members of the
house were bewildered with these concerns and the Southern representatives opted to ignore the
question and encouraged the rest of the House to do the same. The Southerners described the
Quakers who purposed the question as cowards who didn t fight for independence, and insisted
Congress was not allowed to pass laws to end slave trade until much later. The matter was soon
out of their control anyways. Benjamin Franklin had signed a different petition that called for
the ending of slavery altogether, which was written by the Pennsylvania Abolition Society. This
made it hard for the House of Representatives to ignore the situation, which opened up the House
to openly confront each other about the situation and course of action. The Constitution,
however, postponed any laws about slavery until 1808. Ellis proceeded with implying that the
question of slavery and the morality of it cause an inevitable divide that increased with each
postponement of the matter. This division continued until the Civil War which separated the
U.S. geographically as well because of the South being adamant for pro slavery and the North
being supportive of anti slavery. Thomas Jefferson was based on how all men are created equal
and believed that slavery should not be able to expand to Western territories. His influence in
Virginia allowed all slave owners to free their slaves at their own discretion. However, Madison
was less convincing as being idealistic because he did not fully support anti slavery, saying that the
practice was immoral, but he did not do anything to push for a federal law, but instead should be
decided by the individual states. Both sides were equally passionate, which cause the extended

Myths And Mythology In Margaret Atwood s The Penelopid And...
Myth and Mythology have always been among the elements which shape the lives of individuals
and the working mechanism of societies. Margaret Atwood uses in her works every possible
material that enables one to trace her experiences back to the social, historical, cultural, and natural
aspects of her identity . Her familiarity with the Canadian wilderness can be detected in her
employment of nature and animal imagery in her poems and novels. Her novel s The Penelopid
and Surfacingto discover some common and persistent patterns of women writers use when they
rewrite myths. Atwood attempts to offer new sites of existence for women so as to enable them to
get closer to their authentic selves .

The antagonist s approach to God is manifested through other examples, too: When the protagonist
tells about the fish under the water on their fishing trip she states: I believe in them the way other
people believe in God: I can t see them but I know they are there (Surfacing 71). Atwood s
identification of Christ with animals and plants and her identification of people, including
Christians, as cannibals of Jesus is an attempt to decentre the origin of both religion and rational
thinking of the Western mind which proposes that animals and nature be in the servitude of

Building A Room Decorating Ideas
Modern Room Decorating Ideas : How to Choose Wall Artwork
Great art can elevate a space, bring together an interior house design and add interest to a room.
Art work in your home can also communicate your style to your guests and speak to your
personal experience. However, choosing art pieces for your home can be daunting when you have
no experience in room design. Luckily, we have compiled a list of room decorating ideas that will
help you choose the right artwork for your home and its many spaces.
Don t Settle
When looking for the right pieces to fill your living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and
foyer, do not settle. Above all else, it is advisable to get out and see what s out there. Art exists in
galleries, at auctions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think About Your Space
Are you decorating your living room, home office, or bedroom? Spend time in the space and select
the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal
points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be
in order to take up enough visual space.
Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal
wall, hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of
pieces in order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall,
you will be making the room feel larger.
Choosing Art For Your Bedroom
When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like
to get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for
romance? The style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for
your bedroom space. Because art is such an emotive tool, it is particularly important in your
bedroom that the colors of the art displayed help accomplish your bedroom s overarching theme.
For example, red is the color of passion, and although a painting that uses a large swathe of red is
great for a room designated for romance, it may not be well suited in a room designated for
relaxation.

My Student Choice Paper Will Be On Russian Culture
My student choice paper will be on Russian culture. This is a topic I chose because recently a
person I knew from Russia died due to a blood transfusion rejection. After this I did some research
on the Russian healthcare system I found that it lacks the funds, equipment and supplies that are
needed to deliver an acceptable level of care. Russian cultural beliefs such as folk medicine and the
belief in a strong nuclear family may interfere with the care a patient receives. Furthermore,
government corruption, international sanctions, and low oil prices are affecting the Russian
economy. The Russian culture is one that interests me, but I m doing this to see what can be done
to help prevent more deaths. Since 1992 the Russian population has... Show more content on

In 1237 Batu Khan launched an invasion into Kievan Rus . Over the next three years the Mongols
destroyed almost all of the major cities. For the next century or so it was pretty quiet. Around the
14th century, the city of Moscow started growing in influence. To show the city s importance the
patriarchate of Russian Orthodox Church moved to the city. In 1598, Boris Godunov was made
Tsar. Following this, invading armies from Poland led by people claiming to be Dmitre failed to
take Moscow. In June of 1812, Napoleon began his Russian invasion. An army of half a million
started the march to Moscow. The Russians knew they couldn t take the army head on and decided
to mount a defensive campaign of strategic retreat, devastating the land as they fell back and
harassing the flanks of the French. By September the French army had been reduced by two thirds.
When Napoleon s army arrived in Moscow on September the 14, they found it depopulated and void
of resources. That night buildings in Moscow caught fire leaving the French troops without shelter.
By the time the troops returned, only ten thousand men survived. This war ensured Russia s status as
a power in Europe after Napoleon. In 1894 Nicholas II took the throne. He wasn t the smartest
leader, and his ministers were almost all reactionaries. In 1905 the Japanese attacked Russia. Russia

Coyote, Skunk, and the Prairie Dogs
While I find it rather creative to imagine a skunk and a coyote to conspire together to murder
prairie dogs and rabbits, and although I feel I am doing a disservice to hundreds of years of
Navaho storytellers, I am going to attempt to creatively edit parts of the story Coyote, Skunk,
and Prairie Dogs as a written works, and retool it so that it makes more sense as a modern
children s fairy tale. Not that children would be interested in a story about killing and eating
prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the
Navaho trickster tale as possible.
Some things that I feel could be improved is the story needs more description of the events for better

The hated one is washed out.
There were rabbits and other animals and even ground squirrels. Those animals that are food for Ma
ii were gathered together; now they were dancing at that meeting.
First Golizhii said, It s true, it s true! Let s have one of you fast runners run over there to find out.
Then Jackrabbit ran there and ran back saying, It s true!
Then Cottontail ran there and, It s true! he said, running back.
Then Prairie Dog ran, and, It s true! he said running back.
At that time there was a big gathering around Ma ii s body. They were dancing. The hated one is
dead, they were saying. The club is beside him; they were hitting him in the ribs.
Then they continued their celebrating, and more and more animal people came.
Then that evil Golizhii remembered Ma ii s plan. When you all are dancing, while you are looking
up, while you are saying, you say, Dance in that manner, you tell them while you re in charge there,
shilna ash, he had said.
All the small animals were dancing.
Then: Waay up there something is moving by overhead, Golizhii pointed out.
When they were all looking up, Golizhii sprayed upward so that his urine fell in their eyes.
The animals were rubbing his urine from their eyes. Oh, so the one who is hated is dead, is he?
Ma ii said jumping up.
He grabbed the clubs from under him. He used the clubs on them. They were all clubbed to death.

Lyme Disease And The United States
Lyme Disease in Alabama
Introduction
In 2010 there were 2 confirmed cases of Lyme disease in Alabama, which continued to rise until
2014 with the last reported number of 64 confirmed cases for that year alone. In September 2015
the Centers for Disease Control revised their estimates indicating that it is believed that there were
more than 10 times more cases in the United States than the 30,000 reported. Lyme disease is the
fastest growing transmittable disease in the United States. It is hard to believe a disease this
infectious was only discovered four decades ago.
The History of Lyme disease
Lyme disease was unknown to people in the early 1970s and may still be unknown if not for two
mothers in Lyme, Connecticut. The mothers both noticed their kids and others in their town had
the same symptoms and started trying to figure out what was wrong. The medical field began
studying the groups symptoms to try and find a cause. By the mid 1970 s the new disease was
called Lyme but no one knew what was causing it. In 1981 scientist Willy Burgdorfer who
studied Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever started to study Lyme disease. He found the cause of the
disease in a deer tick. He had discovered a bacterium called a spirochete. In 1982 the medical field
named the spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi in honor of his discovery.
Threat
The threat of Lyme disease is an ever growing concern especially due to the fact that late stage
Lyme has no cure and early stages are hard to diagnose. The

Edwin Hubble Research Paper
As you look into the night sky, what do you see? Little bright dots that you can barely see?
Edwin Hubble invented the Hubble Space Telescope that helped scientists around the world
observe space. In this Essay, I will be covering who Edwin Hubble is, what exactly his
revolutionary telescope is, his key discovers, and also the implications of his discoveries.
Edwin Hubble was an American Astronomer and Scientist that lived from 1889 1953. As a kid he
began reading science fiction novels and fell in love. In 1906, Hubble attended the University of
Chicago where he studied law philosophy. He graduated three years later with a bachelor s degree
in jurisprudence. Not long after he decided to attend the University of Chicago once again and

In 1920, Hubble noticed a pulsating star with a Cepheid variable inside each one. He then
calculated how far away each Cepheid laid as well as how far to each nebula and discovered they
were too distant to be inside the Milky Way. Due to this, he realized that there indeed was galaxies
outside of the Milky Way. Lastly, Hubble discovered the Big Bang Theory. He studied ancient light
and concluded about 13.7 billion years ago nothing existed. All matter and energy in the universe
was compressed into an extremely small volume. 13 years ago it exploded and expanded in all
directions. The support to back this up is light from other galaxies and how the spectral lines
almost shifted towards the red end of the spectrum as red shift galaxies are moving away, making
Earth expand. Hubble s key discoveries have helped many scientists conclude exactly how our

Essay Prosocial Self-schemas and Behavior
Prosocial Self schemas and Behavior The theoretical question that has been posed in this article
is whether prosocial private self schemas and prosocial private self awareness are predictors of
prosocial behavior. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of
behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is
connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are
independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive
information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other.

The procedure conducted in the first experiment was straightforward. The participants were brought
to a testing room by one of the two experimenters. The experimenters were both women. The
participant would then be told that they would be participating in a series of different games,
puzzles, and questionnaires. The children were told that for their participation they would receive
fifteen tokens that were worth ten cents each. The tokens could be exchanged for a gift certificate
to Baskin Robbins. The children were then told that they could give some of their tokens to the
children that were not in the study but they did not have to if they did not want to.
To manipulate the private self awareness the experimenter used an abbreviated version of the
California Q sort for children. The California Q sort caused the children to focus on their real self
and then again on their ideal self. The Children not in this condition did thinks such as ?Name as
many cars as you can?.
The experimenter informed the participants that she had to leave for a minute. The experimenter
then gave the children a chance to donate some of their tokens in private to those who have none
but you do not have to if you do not want to. This was done for the private self awareness task.
For the private self schema task, the participants were then given a task designed to measure to the
extent at which they had articulated a private self schema in each of

Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi
Socrates Compelling Attributes
(A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as
an individual)
He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent
indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or
even intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique
in comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with
almost anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most
people he met, in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they
live in and honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence.
Although there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down,
characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato,
wrote. In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates
that make him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one
attribute of Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of
teaching is possibly what Socrates is best known for in modern times. Asking a question, receiving
an answer, and then asking another question that makes that answer seem invalid is

Appeal to Tradition Historically, marriage has been between one man and one woman, and our
forefathers never considered gay marriage should ever be legal. Thus, gay unions should not be

My Hero A Hero
What does make a hero a hero? Is it there looks? Alternatively, maybe is it their personality?
However, the question is what are those essential qualities that make one a hero? Different
people require different heroes to look up to or try to emulate. However, whoever it may be,
they all possess certain qualities. My hero is my mother, for the reason that she is selfless,
compassion, and courage. That kind of selflessness can often be premeditated, since
concentrating on others needs often winds up helping one accomplish one s own goals.
However, a heroic leader does so without any anticipation of a return. The display and concern
show the care one has for others. This can often apparent itself in strong but gentle actions
planned to increase the lives of others. Courage and bravery come to mind first when we think of
heroism. However, it is difficult to achieve anything truly heroic unless one is up against
overwhelming chances. As Nelson Mandela put it, Courage is not the absence of fear, but the
triumph over it. These minor acts of heroism rarely attract any notice. A true hero is always
sympathetic, benevolent and shows a great deal of compassion and sympathy to those poorly or in
agony. He or she keeps away judgements; that are oriented to the self and embraces an attitude that
serves others. Selflessness is an extremely important heroic trait, maybe the uppermost important. It
is the driving force behind heroism. Heroes become heroes when they do something for

Blanche Sympathetic Character
In fiction, a sympathetic character possesses certain attributes which make them identifiable on a
personal level to the audience. Not a character for the audience to admire, but someone who the
reader acquires the ability to care about. It calls on the readers reactions to feel a mutual
understanding for a characters circumstances and realize their mortality. Whether through success or
tragedy, a character can be identified with sympathy by their actions, situations, personalities, and
physical appearance. Tennessee Williams intended for Blanche to be the most sympathetic character

her grip on reality. Blanche is Stella s older sister, who both come from an upper class noble
society. Based on their background, she portrays herself as sophisticated and elegant in every way
possible. By observing through Blanche s personality, she is seen as a sensitive, vulnerable, and an
insecure individual shrouded in misfortune. She becomes quite a complex character who struggles
with conflicts throughout this play. Aside from these positive character traits, there are certain
faults in her personality. She is materialistic, manipulative, deluded, selfish and lustful. In the first
scene, we get a first impression of her being materialistic. The description of her clothing choices is
deemed in a sophisticated and aristocratic manner, as she is described as daintily dressed in a white
suit (1779). The color white is symbolic of innocence, sophistication, and cleanliness. In a negative
light, it symbolizes emptiness, indecisiveness, and isolation. These faults become apparent
throughout the play between interactions with other characters. Her role in the play is essential in
conveying the central themes and the type of influence she has on becoming the most significant

Essay on Abolishing Corporal Punishment in the United...
Corporal punishment is a discipline method in which an administering adult inflicts pain upon a
student (usually using a paddle) in response to a student s offensive behavior. Nowadays regulations
have been created as to how many swats can be inflicted, by whom, and with what instrument. It is
still used in many U.S. schools as a disciplinary method against disobedient or defiant students.
Although corporal punishmentis no longer tolerated in the military, prisons, or mental institutions,
21 states still allow corporal punishment in full or in part according to the U.S. Department of
Education. Every year, more than 223,190 students are being subjected to this particular form of

Not only are such messages thought to be wrong themselves, but it is claimed that they are
repeated by the children who are hit. In the short term, those who are physically punished are
alleged to commit violence against other children, against teachers and against school property. As
far as long term effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit
crimes were physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying
violence breeds violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that
all violence must be banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools.
(CS) Just because an official is promoting violence, instead of a student, does not make it okay.
Punishing a student with violence is taking the easy way out of the situation. It is like putting a
Band Aid over a cut for the quick and easy fix. It may be a way to create an immediate response,
but it is inhumane and for lack of a better word, lazy. So this leaves us with a choice; either we
continue taking the quick fix , or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No
one wants to treat children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the
long run .(DS) So we need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other
means of punishment.

Robber Barons In The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age, from 1877 to 1900, was a period in history that showed the vast changes in the
population and economy. However, underneath the surface of the seemingly improved society,
many people were victims of corruption and unstable living conditions. The wealthy industrialists of
the 19th century were rightfully named robber barons due to their low wages, unsafe working
conditions, and the treatment of children in the work force.
People such as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Andrew Carnegie are known as
some of the major robber barons during the Gilded Age. Although they made major contributions
to the economy, they paid their workers unfair wages. In fact, most working class men were paid
very little, so they didn t have the option of a single income home (Child Labor in the Gilded
Age). Women and children were also sent to work to earn an income for their family, and often
that was barely enough to survive. While Carnegie amassed a fortune, steelworkers in his plants
labored 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, for about 15 cents an hour (Lapsansky Werner, 69).
These wages and working hours gives the robber barons their rightful name. Another reason that
these captains of industry were named robber barons was the ... Show more content on

Maria Rowe 2 Ski Stores Case Study
This case was about Maria Howe, a ski enthusiast and owner of Howe 2 Ski stores, who opened
this store after graduation from college. Howe 2 Ski Stores is a chain of three ski and
snowboarding shops located in the suburbs of a large eastern city. (Nkomo et al., 2011, p. 202)
She started this store because she wanted to own a store that was full of state of the art equipment
and clothing for skiers. Her whole purpose was to have employees be students with expertise in
the sport. After opening this store, business grew and she ended up opening a couple more stores,
with one focusing on snowboarding. However, after opening these two more stores, her staff took a

Crucial To Little Women And Treasure Island Analysis
Crucial to Little Women and Treasure Island is Amy March s and Jim Hawkins journey abroad
which also shows the characters trajectory from innocence to maturity. Certainly, both novels
belong to the sub genre of bildungsroman which is by definition, a story that depicts a journey
from childhood to maturity. In spite of their different goals and outcomes, it is possible to trace
some sort of parallelism between both journeys as they were indirectly intended to shape their
characters in line with the social norms of that time. First and foremost, in Little Women, Amy s
castle in the air was to be an artist, and go to Rome, and do fine pictures, and be the best artist in
the whole world (Alcott, 2008). In part two of Little Women, Amy travels abroad to Europe as a...

a long time and was depriving her from being a little woman. Furthermore, she also argues that
Amy s voyage has smoothened her nature and made her more agreeable and this is particularly
evident in her remark that Whenever I see girls struggling along, as we used to do, I want to put
out my hand and help them (Alcott, 2008). Indeed, by contrasting Amy s earlier selfishness with
her selflessness at the end of the novel, it is obvious that this journey was instrumental in Amy s
conversion into a little woman. Nonetheless, it has also indulged and emphasized her
conventionality as evident in her attack on Laurie in Lazy Laurence. However, in spite of the

Car Seat Safety
As a mother to multiple children and a former nanny, I have plenty of experience in car seat
safety. Even so, it s always best to keep up with the most current info as some things will change
as we learn more. Though changes may occur, there are some things that always remain constant
with car seat safety. Choose car seats according to age and size An infant cannot ride safely in a
booster seat. Likewise, a larger child should not be riding in a rear facing infant seat. Read the
manufacturer labels and follow the advice of your child s pediatrician to determine the proper car
seat. It is generally more accurate to fit a child s car seat according to weight and height than by
age. One child may move into a booster seat at a younger age than... Show more content on

In this method, as soon as the raw bricks are cut to size, they are stacked on flatcars, slowly passed
through long, heated tunnels and after from 8 to 72 hours (depending on the type of brick) they are

largest brick factories, located outside Lisbon, has a modern continuous car tunnel oven 180 m

widely from region to region, adapting themselves to the local necessities. However, even the
Assyrians recognized the need to standardize the dimensions of the most widely used bricks of

factories as to the forms and dimensions of bricks produced. The 44 factories that answered the
inquiry produced 330 different models! This great diversity caused many inconveniences, for
manufacturer and consumer alike. As bricks occupy a very important role in construction here in
Portugal, standardization would be very beneficial, not only as to quality, but also as to dimensions
and materials. With the results of this inquiry at hand, it was now necessary to determine how to
limit the existing types. Ninety nine different factories and 36 of the larger

The war was very tough, men fought hard, we gave it our all. But war at this time wasn t our

conditions were horrible, freezing, no shelter, little supply of food or water, men are dying, disease

on his back, but what Valley Forge is doing will decrease our numbers fast. The early winter not
only affected us but when spring came everything thawed and created mud so deep we could
barely get to our destination. Should I even re enlist? Of course I should! It s wrong to quit, I
am going to stay loyal to my country and fight for what s right! I will re enlist. The first reason I
am reenlisting is because many of our soldiers and men are dying. In document C it states how
bad the weather was and how crucial it was. Valley Forge had the worst weather seen in the
winter. Temperatures are very critical and fatal to our men. It doesn t help that our shelter is the
worst, barely any heat to keep us warm. Just horrible conditions and too harsh for our men. Our

Effects Of Climate Variables On Crop Productivity Essay
Although, a number of recent studies have carried out the effects of climate variables on crop
productivity using simulation crop models such as CERES maize, CERES rice or EPIC models
(Lansigan et al. 2000; Rosenzweig et al., 2002; Tan and Shibasaki, 2003; Popova and Kercheva
2005; Tao et al., 2008; Yin et al. 2015,). Most of these studies estimate adversely harmful effects of
climate changeon agriculture in both developed and developing countries using crop models
(process based or statistical) with global climatemodel (GCM) outputs.
A significant number of studies have been undertaken in recent decades in Asian regions using
ORYZA2000 crop model in the Philippines (Bouman and van Laar, 2006), India (Yadav et al. 2011;
Sumathi et al. 2015), Indonesia (Boling et al, 2007), China (Bouman et al, 2007; Feng et al, 2007;
Sen et al. 2011) and Iran (Amiri, 2008; Amiri and Rezaei, 2009).
In the mid 1990s, International Rice Research Institute and the Wageningen University and

The Principles Of The Zinn Triad And Its Consequences
Introduction
When determining sentencing, the primary purposes of punishment must be considered and in that
consideration, the principles of the Zinn Triad must also be considered and followed strictly and
equally between each other. In this essay, the principles of the Zinn Triad and how they affect
sentencing; the origins of the Zinn Triad will also be discussed in order to better understand how
one case could form such a pivotal part of sentencing.
Principles of the Zinn Triad
The principles of the Zinn Triad are crucial when determining the proper route for sentencing an
offender and implementing the purposes of punishment.
The Zinn Triad aims to consider the crime in question, the offender and his/her circumstances as
well as the interests of society when selecting the appropriate punishment and duration of
punishment (Coetzee, 2012).

questioned on how severe each factor is and should be applied to each case a court deals with.
From the Zinn Triad we understand that the severity of the crime, the characteristics and
circumstances of the offender and the interest of the society must all be applied equally; but

Third Party Forgiveness Examples
Third Party Forgiveness
The major findings in this article were that reactions to offenses frequently tend toward retaliation
rather than forgiveness and that first parties generally are more likely to forgive offenses than are
third parties. Continuing to study both first party and third party forgiveness through cognitive
evaluations as well as the interdependent nature of relationships can have important implications for
forgiveness promoting interventions, thereby helping individuals reach forgiveness.
In this article two experiments tested the hypothesis that close friends of victims are less forgiving
than the victims themselves. In Experiment 1, individuals imagined a scenario in which either their
romantic partner or the romantic partner of a close friend committed an offense. Third parties were
less forgiving than first parties, a phenomenon we termed the third party forgiveness effect. In

themselves, despite the fact that an offense was not directed at them. This could be due to the fact
that close friends or family members of both perpetrator and victim may take sides and feel
intimately involved in an offense and its aftermath. Those close to the victim may feel wronged or
deeply hurt themselves. They may believe that they are entitled to forgive or not forgive the

Advantages Of CNC Machining
I.INTRODUCTION
C
NC Machining is a process used in the manufacturing sector that involves the use of computers to
control machine tools. Tools that can be controlled in this manner include lathes, mills, routers and
grinders. The CNC in CNC Machining stands for Computer Numerical Control. On the surface, it
may look like a normal PC controls the machines, but the computer s unique software and control
console are what really sets the system apart for use in CNC machining. Under CNC Machining,
machine tools function through numerical control. A computer program is customized for an object
and the machines are programmed with CNC machining language (called G code) that essentially

The program is loaded and finally an operator runs a test of the program to ensure there are no
problems. This trial run is referred to as cutting air and it is an important step because any
mistake with speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine. There
are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual
machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the
precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be
almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production
of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining
is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. Other than that, there has
some problem that always occur in CNC machine such as electrical fault, parameter issues, door
and safety interlocks and others. If you are considering a career in CNC Machining, it would be
useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as well as
computer usage. There are many common problem of CNC Machining such as the material burns

The Oil And Natural Gas Industries
Around the globe, the oil and natural gas industries are a major part of stable and growing
economies, as well as, the individual lives of most people. As individuals we use it to run our
vehicles, heat our homes, cook, and much more. Economies, on the other hand, rely on the oil and
natural gas industries for the jobs they create, the product they supply, and the added value created
by government revenues. In 2011, these industries in the United States made up 5.6 percent of the
nation s total employment, providing $394 billion in labor income (6 15, American Petroleum
Institute). They also contributed an estimated $410.3 billion to the nation s economy through
wages, capital spending, and dividends totaling 7.1 percent of the United States gross domestic
product (GDP) (25 26, American Petroleum Institute). Those percentages may not seem like much
alone, but when you consider that one industry, out of hundreds in the United States, makes up
those numbers, they seem a lot larger. During the 1990 s, oil and natural gasproduction had hit a
snag spreading worry that the U.S. would become reliant on foreign imports (Inman). One of the
world s leading countries in the industry were beginning to fear the end of a resource that they

Importance Of Teaching English
Assignment 1, Muntasir
In my country, English is taught as a foreign language. The school that I was teaching is a
bilingual school. They use English as one of instruction languages. However, in a certain level, the
instruction language is mixed between L1 and English depending on the need of students. I teach
English for senior high school students. Their ages are ranging from 13 to 14. The students in this
context are first grade students in senior high school. They are divided into two level. The one that
I am preparing the material for is the pre intermediate level students. These students can understand
a simple text even though they do not understand all vocabulary. They read graded reader book
every week and have a test every two month. This reading activity aims for comprehension and
vocabulary practice.t
I choose this text because of the theme of the text is familiar to students daily life. This text is about
electronic rubbish (Appendix). Moreover, I think students will enjoy reading this text as it provides
interesting information about electronic devices that they regularly interact with. I hope that the
familiarity of content will help their understanding.
After running this text into Lexical Tutor website, I find that 77.06% of text categorize as K1 and
12.84% of it categorizes as K2. However, there are some words which are relatively low frequency
word and that my students might not understand. These words such as recycle, copper, toxic which

Constantine And The Fall Of The Roman Empire
If I could travel back in time to the days of the Roman empire, I would try and prevent Constantine
from moving the capital to a new location, Constantinople. And instead suggest that he either keeps
it in place, or builds the capital but keeps Rome as it capital as well. The movement of the capital
greatly benefited the eastern side of the Roman empire, but with the growing power of the east, the
west continued to crumble. And as the west falls, the east will soon follow. Ths will result in the
total fall of the Roman empire. For the east, and as far as Constantine could see, moving the
capital from the far western side (almost in the east), to the east it seemed perfect because the
location was centered perfectly for trade, and less

How Does The Speaker Use Imagery In The Rainy Day
A booming echo of thunder bellows in the distance as the rain hurls upon the earth with no intent of
ceasing, demolishing what would have been a gorgeous sunny day. Abruptly, the precipitation
pauses, the sun glows upon the land, and the harmonious chirps of birds fill the air. In Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow s poem The Rainy Day, he depicts the immediate and long term effects of
enduring hardships on the mind. Misfortunes are an inescapable element of the life of any
individual. Symbolism and imagery convey the speaker s initial mindset that life will always
remain dull and gloomy. For example, what begins as a sorrowful day transitions into the speaker s
whole life, which he describes as cold, and dark, and dreary, (7). Addressing the entirety of life in
this manner identifies immense emotional unrest. This negative mindset influences the belief that
there are no moments to cherish in life. In addition, the speaker discusses his unsettling thoughts
that cling to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the speaker comforts himself with the belief that Behind the clouds is the sun still
shining, (12). The sun is a symbol for better days and more positive instances yet to come. These
pleasurable moments are masked by symbolic clouds that represent the complications that make
life seem dreary. This demonstrates the understanding that pain and discomfort are provisional.
Moreover, the speaker continues to explain his belief that, Into each life some rain must fall,
/ Some days must be dark and dreary, (14). The rain represents hardships and unpleasant days,
which are now understood to be inevitable. Instead of fretting over these obstacles, the speaker
learns to accept this fate. As the turmoil begins to cease and a wave of content commences, the
speaker realizes that bad days are unavoidable, but they do not last

How Did Jackson Dbq
Jackson was not a president of the people. He was hypocritical in the promises he kept for the
people, when he created the Jacksonian Democracy . He also created the spoils system, and he
was cruel to the Cherokee, and all other Native American tribes. However, some may say that he
was a good president simply because he claimed himself to be a president of the people. After John
Quincy Adamshad become president, Jackson promised the people when he became president,
he would give them a voice and reduce the power of the central government. However, when he
was elected, he went and created the Jacksonian Democracy. This new way of government, his
way, supposedly placed the will of the people above all else, but Jackson still wanted to be very
powerful as a president. Jackson was obviously hungry for power, placing himself above the
people, breaking his promises and using the people s want for freedom to win them over. As
depicted in document C, the people began seeing this side of him too, illustrating him as King
Jackson. Above the the picture in document C, the caption Born to Command was written, and

Except, the spoils system was also created during Andrew Jackson s time as president. Using this
system, Jackson replaced all of the previous government officials with his own supporters. In the
corrupt bargain, Adams made Henry Clay his secretary of state after Clay convinced the House
of Representatives to elect Adams as president. Basically, the spoils system and the corrupt
bargain were the same thing. Because of the people that Jackson put in office with the spoils
system, it also allowed him to make more decisions, because they were all supporters of his ideas.
So, there was less resistance when he decided something because there were fewer opinions on

The Electric Telegraph Invented By Samuel Morse
One of the earliest inventions of communication was the electric telegraph invented by Samuel
Morse. This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant
role in transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and
newspapers. Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are
roughly three principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling
events per minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud
rate has been substituted with a more precise unit of measurement.
Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones
worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). This is where copper wires carry
an analogue voice signal. Analogue means a device or organization in which the value of a data
point represented by a continuously varying physical quantity which can be quantified. An example
is a watch that shows time with hands on a dial rather than numbers on an LCD screen. In an
analogue telephone system, the audio signal is converted into electronic pulses. This creates
vibrations in the handset s speaker that can be picked up by the person listening.
Nevertheless, in a digital telephone. The audio signal is converted into binary format. The binary
format consists of groups of 0 s and 1 s. The audio signal is sampled thousands of times a second

Drinking Age Debate
The beginning of the new year symbolizes resolution, fresh starts, and most importantly change.
This year, the month of July will mark the 33rd anniversary of the 1984 National Minimum
Drinking Age, the act that states all states must enforce the legal age of 21 to purchase and
consume all alcohol. However, with each year modern society is growing, improving, drastically
changing. 18 year olds in the U.S. are capable of voting, working full time, engaging in marriage,
and are thought of as completely responsible for their actions as they are legally adults, so why are
they incapable of being responsible enough to consume alcohol? This is causing many in the U.S.
to start questioning the legitimacy or need for this law that inhibits states from... Show more content

Underage drinking has been occurring since laws were set in place for age qualifications, but it
is better serving American society by continuing it because we can t accept lowering the
national age? Ruth C. Engs, a professor for Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, finds
that the mandated drinking age should be lowered to 18 or 19. If young adults were legally
allowed to drink in controlled environments, then responsible drinking methods could be taught,
resulting in mature behavior when consuming alcohol (Engs, 1). By keeping the drinking age so
high, students or young adults are forced to hide drinking and more often than not, turn to binge
drinking, an unhealthy, addictive, and extremely dangerous form of drinking that often results in
blackouts and alcohol poisoning. Engs states, For example, 22% of all students under 21
compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers. This is not the only issue that arises
from underage drinking. Newsweek writer, Jeffrey A. Tucker, sees that this law is only causing
over indulgence, anti social behavior, disrespect for the law, secrecy and sneaking and a massive
diversion of human energy. To diminish these issues, people are turning towards the examples of
other nations that have managed to maintain low drinking age laws, with low risk results. In other
countries, alcohol is seen as a cultural norm and are taught at young age how to responsibly
consume. However, it is treated the opposite in America, instead, it is seen as how Wil Fulton from
the Huffington Post sees it, forbidden fruit . Fulton states through a claim made by the World
Health Organization, that while Europeans tend to consume more alcohol, Americans still die from
more alcohol related causes. In efforts to change this law and hopefully encourage safe and
responsible drinking, many are turning towards the Amethyst Initiative, a movement created by John

Living in Jacksonville, NC versus Living in San Diego, Ca
Compare and Contrast Final Draft
Samantha Deal As a military brat, I was born and raised in Jacksonville, North Carolina; and
have lived here for most of my life. Recently our family was stationed in San Diego, California,
and the move was a great eye opener for me. When I moved to San Diego, I was surprised by the
diversity of cultures, the abundance of activities, and how the crowds of people never stopped. It
is an excellent place for people who enjoy being amongst other people; there is never a lack of
entertainment day or night. Jacksonville, North Carolina on the other hand, is more for people who
like a relaxed and quiet family oriented lifestyle. The city of Jacksonville, and Camp Lejeune
Marine Corps base are home to 170,000 Marines, Sailors, retirees, and civilians. There are plenty
of things to do in Jacksonville, the only problem is you have to look for them. For example, on
the Jacksonville website, there are seafood festivals to attend, crab boils, and beach events among
other things. We have deep sea fishing for blue marlin with a top prize of $1,000,000 which
attracts people from all over the country. People can join the Clean and Green Jacksonville initiative
which entails improving, and maintaining the parks, roadways, and landscapes. Also, the Sturgeon
City Institute is focused on bringing back the endangered Sturgeon to the New River. In addition,

Rosa Parks is invariably portrayed as someone who had rached the end of her patience after a

had been a life long worker for the NAACP and she had taken a special interest in the Claudette

The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam Essays
The Involvement of the United States in Vietnam
The single most important factor in understanding the United States involvement in Vietnam is fear.
In the years leading to the Vietnam Conflict the United States was immersed in paranoia toward
Communist Russia and the communist movement as a whole. This paranoia has its roots in the
depression of the nineteen thirties and was fueled by the exploits of men like MacCarthy and other
politicians who saw this as an opportunity to further their careers or push policies. This paranoia
was the most important factor in the entrance of the US into the conflict in Southeast Asia.
During the years proceeding World War II the United States found itself one of the two most

In a letter to Stalin from President Roosevelt on February 6, 1945 he wrote:
You must believe me when I tell you that our people at home look with a critical eye on what they
consider a disagreement between us at this vital stage of the war. They in effect say that if we
cannot get a meeting of minds now when our armies are converging on the common enemy, how
can we get an understanding on even more vital things in the future.
It was the growing mistrust of this relatively new communist nation that led to the eventual fear of
a global conflict between the two ideologies. This fear that was beginning to grip the American
public was not only due the increasing military threat of the Soviet Union but also for fear of
another internal economic crisis. The majority of the American population during this period
directly experienced the great depression of the nineteen thirties the prosperity that proceeded it.
Now America was in a state of postwar prosperity again and the standard of living had dramatically
increased for the majority of the American public over the past twenty years. This rising middle
class now saw their improved economic independence being threatened not only from a domestic
economic disaster but also from a new outside force, Communism. Communism to the American
people was a threat to the American dream, the American way of life, and most important to the
basic freedoms and values that this country was

Deductive Approach Paper
The inductive approach to research refers to a strategy where the researcher starts the study
gathering all the data relevant to the topic being studied. When they have collected all the necessary
information, the researcher conducts an in depth review of the data with the aim of developing a
deep understanding of the concept being studied. The researcher explores the data making
observations on crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the
outcomes. Then, the researcher develops a theory that helps him to explain the reasons for the
development of the observed patterns. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the
specifics to a general observation that can be applied in the overall case. After the analysis of the
data, the researcher explores the existing theories on the topic and positions the newly developed
theory within the existing body of knowledge (Creswell, 2003).
The deductive approach is the opposite of the procedure followed in inductive research. The study

Every major sports league, including the NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL and NASCAR, are sponsored

drinks, have limited sponsorships of smaller sports leagues including the NCAA. The question is,
how effective is Gatorade and other sports drinksin doing what it they re advertised to do? One has
to wonder if the wide use of Gatorade is merely due to billions of dollars of advertising pumped in

Gatorade:How it Works
According to the official Gatorade web site there are four main ways in which Gatorade helps
improve athletic performance and keeps our bodies functioning normally even under conditions of
extreme physical exertion. First of all several of it ingredients stimulate rapid fluid absorption.
Secondly it assures rapid rehydration which allows us to maintain physiological function and
prevents dehydration. Third, the carbohydrates in Gatorade provide energy to working muscles.
Finally it encourages you to drink more fluid. All the assertions made by Gatorade make sense
but the question still remains about the overall effectiveness of Gatorade and other sports drinks.
We will now take a closer look at the four major ways Gatorade is suppose to work and how it is
suppose to help our athletic performance and general homeostasis.
Rapid Fluid Absorption. Rapid fluid absorption is important during strenuous athletic activity in
order to avoid dehydration. According to Gatorade, research has shown that the 6% carbohydrate
level and presence of salt found in their beverage is optimal for rapid fluid absorption. They also
claim that as the carbohydrate level gets higher than 7% absorption is slowed and therefore fruit
juices and some sports drinks aren t recommended during exercise.

Plus, Fools Rush In is my favorite movie so I loved the opportunity to analyze it. I liked writing

The truth is that many people rush in to interracial marriages without stopping to think of the
effects on their families.

religion, only to inform them of what could (and does) happen. It was really hard to write a

Fools Rush In starts out comparing the lives of two very different people. Alex Whitman is a
white, upper class successful New Yorker who has recently been relocated to Las Vegas.
Isabelle Fuentes is a Mexican American woman struggling with her photography career in Las
Vegas. They meet by chance in a restaurant and have a one night stand. Three months later,
Isabelle interrupts Alex s smooth lifestyle with the announcement that she is pregnant. After
meeting Isabelle s very tight knit, very Catholic Hispanic family, Alex decides they should
elope. What follows are many comedic scenarios of both people trying to fit in to the other s
culture. Real problems arise with topics of race, religion, and location. Each family contributes to
the stress of the situation. Isabelle s family thinks that they need to stay in Las Vegas in order to
be closer to family, and that the baby s religion has to be Catholic. Alex s family thinks themselves
superior over Mexican Americans and thinks that economics is more important than being close to
family. Isabelle lies about a miscarriage, and they go their separate ways. The underlying theme of
destiny plays a major part in the movie at this time. Alex relies on his faith to bring him back to
Isabelle, and they decide that despite their differences, they were meant to be together.

Meiosis is only performed by a male or female s sex organs because the cells found in those
organs, gametes, contain the X or Y chromosomes (Maayan 2011). When the gametes are

Randomly, during miosis I or meiosis II, the homologue pairs or the chromatids do not separate in

  • 3. Summary Of Founding Brother s By Joseph Ellis In the novel, Founding Brother s by Joseph Ellis, Ellis depicts six defining events from U.S. History. These six events explore the challenges and realities that the American Founding Fathers faced as they built up the American government that we know today and what occurred afterwards. Ellis focuses the novel on the most prominent members of the Founding Fathers which include: George Washington; John and Abigail Adams; Thomas Jefferson ; Alexander Hamilton; James Madison; Benjamin Franklin; and Aaron Burr. Ellis examines the relationships and conflicts that these men were faced with, and how exactly the events were affected by the conflicted time period that they lived in and how they established their influence in American history. The first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shortly after Thomas Jefferson s dinner arrangement, petitions were sent to the House of Representatives that called for an end to the African slave trade business. Many members of the house were bewildered with these concerns and the Southern representatives opted to ignore the question and encouraged the rest of the House to do the same. The Southerners described the Quakers who purposed the question as cowards who didn t fight for independence, and insisted Congress was not allowed to pass laws to end slave trade until much later. The matter was soon out of their control anyways. Benjamin Franklin had signed a different petition that called for the ending of slavery altogether, which was written by the Pennsylvania Abolition Society. This made it hard for the House of Representatives to ignore the situation, which opened up the House to openly confront each other about the situation and course of action. The Constitution, however, postponed any laws about slavery until 1808. Ellis proceeded with implying that the question of slavery and the morality of it cause an inevitable divide that increased with each postponement of the matter. This division continued until the Civil War which separated the U.S. geographically as well because of the South being adamant for pro slavery and the North being supportive of anti slavery. Thomas Jefferson was based on how all men are created equal and believed that slavery should not be able to expand to Western territories. His influence in Virginia allowed all slave owners to free their slaves at their own discretion. However, Madison was less convincing as being idealistic because he did not fully support anti slavery, saying that the practice was immoral, but he did not do anything to push for a federal law, but instead should be decided by the individual states. Both sides were equally passionate, which cause the extended ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myth and Mythology have always been among the elements which shape the lives of individuals and the working mechanism of societies. Margaret Atwood uses in her works every possible material that enables one to trace her experiences back to the social, historical, cultural, and natural aspects of her identity . Her novel s The Penelopid and Surfacingto discover some common and persistent patterns of women writers use when they rewrite myths. The antagonist s approach to God is manifested through other examples, too: When the protagonist tells about the fish under the water on their fishing trip she states: I believe in them the way other people believe in God: I can t see them but I know they are there (Surfacing 71). Atwood s identification of Christ with animals and plants and her identification of people, including Christians, as cannibals of Jesus is an attempt to decentre the origin of both religion and rational thinking of the Western mind which proposes that animals and nature be in the servitude of ... Spend time in the space and select the most important and visible walls in those rooms. These walls should be considered the focal points of your design. When choosing art for these spaces, consider the size that art will need to be in order to take up enough visual space. Match the size and shape of the pieces to the walls. For instance, if you have a long horizontal wall, hang a long horizontal piece of art. In the same space, you could also hand a collection of pieces in order to take up more horizontal space. By accentuating the height or length of the wall, you will be making the room feel larger. Choosing Art For Your Bedroom When choosing art for your bedroom, it is important that you consider what it is you would like to get out of the space. Is your bedroom a place of rest, a place to unwind, or a place for romance? The style and mood of the art you choose should be in line with your overall plans for your bedroom space. Because art is such an emotive tool, it is particularly important in your bedroom that the colors of the art displayed help accomplish your bedroom s overarching theme. For example, red is the color of passion, and although a painting that uses a large swathe of red is great for a room designated for romance, it may not be well suited in a room designated for relaxation. • 7. My Student Choice Paper Will Be On Russian Culture My student choice paper will be on Russian culture. This is a topic I chose because recently a person I knew from Russia died due to a blood transfusion rejection. After this I did some research on the Russian healthcare system I found that it lacks the funds, equipment and supplies that are needed to deliver an acceptable level of care. Russian cultural beliefs such as folk medicine and the belief in a strong nuclear family may interfere with the care a patient receives. Furthermore, government corruption, international sanctions, and low oil prices are affecting the Russian economy. The Russian culture is one that interests me, but I m doing this to see what can be done to help prevent more deaths. Since 1992 the Russian population has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1237 Batu Khan launched an invasion into Kievan Rus . Over the next three years the Mongols destroyed almost all of the major cities. For the next century or so it was pretty quiet. Around the 14th century, the city of Moscow started growing in influence. To show the city s importance the patriarchate of Russian Orthodox Church moved to the city. In 1598, Boris Godunov was made Tsar. Following this, invading armies from Poland led by people claiming to be Dmitre failed to take Moscow. In June of 1812, Napoleon began his Russian invasion. An army of half a million started the march to Moscow. The Russians knew they couldn t take the army head on and decided to mount a defensive campaign of strategic retreat, devastating the land as they fell back and harassing the flanks of the French. By September the French army had been reduced by two thirds. When Napoleon s army arrived in Moscow on September the 14, they found it depopulated and void of resources. That night buildings in Moscow caught fire leaving the French troops without shelter. By the time the troops returned, only ten thousand men survived. This war ensured Russia s status as a power in Europe after Napoleon. In 1894 Nicholas II took the throne. He wasn t the smartest leader, and his ministers were almost all reactionaries. Not that children would be interested in a story about killing and eating prairie dogs, but I am going to attempt to keep the plot, storyline and outcome as similar to the Navaho trickster tale as possible. Edwin Hubble was an American Astronomer and Scientist that lived from 1889 1953. As a kid he began reading science fiction novels and fell in love. In 1920, Hubble noticed a pulsating star with a Cepheid variable inside each one. He then calculated how far away each Cepheid laid as well as how far to each nebula and discovered they were too distant to be inside the Milky Way. Due to this, he realized that there indeed was galaxies outside of the Milky Way. Lastly, Hubble discovered the Big Bang Theory. He studied ancient light and concluded about 13.7 billion years ago nothing existed. Essay Prosocial Self-schemas and Behavior Prosocial Self schemas and Behavior The theoretical question that has been posed in this article is whether prosocial private self schemas and prosocial private self awareness are predictors of prosocial behavior. The self schema is believed to play an important role in the regulation of behavior. It is believed that behavior is influenced by the activation of a schema. This schema is connected to the perception of self. Little evidence is shown to conclude that self schemas are independently influencing any type of behavior and it is presumed that both the descriptive information about the self and the behavioral information are stored independently of each other. Socrates Characteristics Of Philosophi Socrates Compelling Attributes (A discussion of Socrates characteristics, in Plato s The Republic, that make him so enthralling as an individual) He was remarkable for the absolute command he maintained over his emotions and his apparent indifference to physical hardships (Kenny). Some refer to Socrates as remarkable, influential, or even intriguing, yet what does it mean to be intriguing? It is someone who is significantly unique in comparison to the majority of the public. An intriguing person leaves his or her mark with almost anyone that crosses their path. Many will attest that Socrates was a man who left most people he met, in a different state of mind. He was one to make people question the society that they live in and honestly, not many people during that time period were appreciative of his intelligence. Although there is not very much known about Socrates, as he himself never wrote anything down, characteristics about him can be inferred through the reading of the dialogues his student, Plato, wrote. In the first two books of Plato s dialogue, The Republic, there are many aspects of Socrates that make him such an enthralling and influential individual even today. Being quick witted is one attribute of Socrates, which makes him such an intriguing individual. The Socratic method of teaching is possibly what Socrates is best known for in modern times. Different people require different heroes to look up to or try to emulate. However, whoever it may be, they all possess certain qualities. My hero is my mother, for the reason that she is selfless, compassion, and courage. That kind of selflessness can often be premeditated, since concentrating on others needs often winds up helping one accomplish one s own goals. However, a heroic leader does so without any anticipation of a return. The display and concern show the care one has for others. This can often apparent itself in strong but gentle actions planned to increase the lives of others. Courage and bravery come to mind first when we think of heroism. However, it is difficult to achieve anything truly heroic unless one is up against overwhelming chances. As Nelson Mandela put it, Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. These minor acts of heroism rarely attract any notice. A true hero is always sympathetic, benevolent and shows a great deal of compassion and sympathy to those poorly or in agony. He or she keeps away judgements; that are oriented to the self and embraces an attitude that serves others. Selflessness is an extremely important heroic trait, maybe the uppermost important. As far as long term effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit crimes were physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying violence breeds violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that all violence must be banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools. However, underneath the surface of the seemingly improved society, many people were victims of corruption and unstable living conditions. The wealthy industrialists of the 19th century were rightfully named robber barons due to their low wages, unsafe working conditions, and the treatment of children in the work force. People such as John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Andrew Carnegie are known as some of the major robber barons during the Gilded Age. Although they made major contributions to the economy, they paid their workers unfair wages. In fact, most working class men were paid very little, so they didn t have the option of a single income home (Child Labor in the Gilded Age). Women and children were also sent to work to earn an income for their family, and often that was barely enough to survive. While Carnegie amassed a fortune, steelworkers in his plants labored 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week, for about 15 cents an hour (Lapsansky Werner, 69). This trial run is referred to as cutting air and it is an important step because any mistake with speed and tool position could result in a scraped part or a damaged machine. There are many advantages to using CNC Machining. The process is more precise than manual machining, and can be repeated in exactly the same manner over and over again. Because of the precision possible with CNC Machining, this process can produce complex shapes that would be almost impossible to achieve with manual machining. CNC Machining is used in the production of many complex three dimensional shapes. It is because of these qualities that CNC Machining is used in jobs that need a high level of precision or very repetitive tasks. Other than that, there has some problem that always occur in CNC machine such as electrical fault, parameter issues, door and safety interlocks and others. If you are considering a career in CNC Machining, it would be useful to have a background in mathematics, industrial arts and mechanical drafting, as well as computer usage. However, with each year modern society is growing, improving, drastically changing. 18 year olds in the U.S. are capable of voting, working full time, engaging in marriage, and are thought of as completely responsible for their actions as they are legally adults, so why are they incapable of being responsible enough to consume alcohol? Underage drinking has been occurring since laws were set in place for age qualifications, but it is better serving American society by continuing it because we can t accept lowering the national age? Ruth C. Engs, a professor for Applied Health Sciences at Indiana University, finds that the mandated drinking age should be lowered to 18 or 19. If young adults were legally allowed to drink in controlled environments, then responsible drinking methods could be taught, resulting in mature behavior when consuming alcohol (Engs, 1). By keeping the drinking age so high, students or young adults are forced to hide drinking and more often than not, turn to binge drinking, an unhealthy, addictive, and extremely dangerous form of drinking that often results in blackouts and alcohol poisoning. Engs states, For example, 22% of all students under 21 compared to 18% over 21 years of age are heavy drinkers. This is not the only issue that arises from underage drinking. Newsweek writer, Jeffrey A. Tucker, sees that this law is only causing over indulgence, anti social behavior, disrespect for the law, secrecy and sneaking and a massive diversion of human energy. To diminish these issues, people are turning towards the examples of other nations that have managed to maintain low drinking age laws, with low risk results. The researcher explores the data making observations on crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the outcomes. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the specifics to a general observation that can be applied in the overall case. It was really hard to write a synthesis on the two movies without comparing and contrasting them. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fools Rush In starts out comparing the lives of two very different people. Alex Whitman is a white, upper class successful New Yorker who has recently been relocated to Las Vegas. Isabelle Fuentes is a Mexican American woman struggling with her photography career in Las Vegas. They meet by chance in a restaurant and have a one night stand. Three months later, Isabelle interrupts Alex s smooth lifestyle with the announcement that she is pregnant. After meeting Isabelle s very tight knit, very Catholic Hispanic family, Alex decides they should elope. What follows are many comedic scenarios of both people trying to fit in to the other s culture. Real problems arise with topics of race, religion, and location. Each family contributes to the stress of the situation. Isabelle s family thinks that they need to stay in Las Vegas in order to be closer to family, and that the baby s religion has to be Catholic. Alex s family thinks themselves superior over Mexican Americans and thinks that economics is more important than being close to family. Isabelle lies about a miscarriage, and they go their separate ways. The underlying theme of destiny plays a major part in the movie at this time. Alex relies on his faith to bring him back to Isabelle, and they decide that despite their differences, they were meant to be together. • 53. It Is A Water Purification System It is a hot 92 degrees fahrenheit, blistering sunny day the small communities of Amaya, Torencio, and El Porvenir in Nicaragua. The dress code for guys: long pants, closed toed shoes, t shirt with sleeves, and hats optional. The dress code for girls: pants or capris, closed toed shoes, crew neck shirts with sleeves, and no tight fitting articles of clothing would be allowed. In the communities tasks of digging a trench, installing a water purification system, home visits, and of course playing with the kids were handed out. Work in the morning and play in the afternoon. Then the team boarded two small buses/vans, and returned to a fairly nice hotel with a pool and dinner awaiting. Then the nightly team debriefs and bed shortly after to do it again. Then before you know it you are standing there surrounded by shouting kids, many hugs, the phrase adios said between the sniffles of runny noses and tear streamed faces. Hundreds of pictures are being taken to add to the thousands from the week all in hopes of getting that one picture or a few memorable moments that will be on the picture slideshow. Then returning home is exhausting as is trying to sleep during the layovers and rediscovering American food which you had a week ago but it feels as if it has been weeks. The questions that are always asked are: what did you do? what did you learn? how did you see God? The response frequently begins with the pronoun I and a comparison of the different situations begins either in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Congenital Birth Defects I don t care if it s a boy or girl. I just want a healthy baby. Advancements in technology allow parents to learn more than ever about their baby in utero such as the sex, developmental milestones and potentially any congenital defects. A new parents greatest fear is that their baby will be sick or struggle to survive; if parents were able to know their child would be born with a condition that would keep them from leading a typical life, should they be able to terminate? Having a disability or congenital birth defect does not mean the same thing for our youth as it did ten, twenty, or even fifty years ago. The same advancements in technology and science that allow us to learn more in utero have enabled us to understand genetic conditions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meiosis is only performed by a male or female s sex organs because the cells found in those organs, gametes, contain the X or Y chromosomes (Maayan 2011). When the gametes are producing more cells, they pass on the X or Y chromosomes to the new haploid daughter cells. Randomly, during miosis I or meiosis II, the homologue pairs or the chromatids do not separate in a process called nondisjunction (Mader 2015). When this occurs occurs and some new cells will be left with no chromosomes and others with double the amount of chromosomes. If a woman has an egg with no x chromosome is fertilized or if a sperm with no X chromosome fertilizes an egg, what will result is a zygote with only one X chromosome instead of the normal two ( Chromosomal Abnormalities 2017). If this zygote is formed, it is called monosomy X or what we know as Turner Syndrome ( Chromosomal Abnormalities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
