Freedom Of African American Youth
Is general, is it necessary for our youth to be profiled and questioned for everything that we do? When
Martin Luther King, and all the other great civil rights leaders that were taught to them in schools
about walking for our justice and freedom, it seems like the freedom they were discussing and wanting
for their people is the freedom that white American gave to black youth by mistake. When you look at
how our African American youth are treated in wherever they go, it prompts the question, are they
really free? Can our youth actually go apply for jobs like their white counterparts and actually be
looked at for their skills not for the color of their skin. Can our youth actually go to the grocery store
and actually be free to walk around without

Voltaire and the Enlightenment Essay
Voltaire and the Enlightenment
During the eighteenth century a group of French writers and critics known as the Philosophes favored
change and reform. They believed in the power of the human mind, which was an idea that was
inspired by the Scientific Revolution. The philosophes had faith in the power of rational criticism to
challenge the tradition of the past. They also sought to apply the rules of reason and common sense to
nearly all major institutions and social practices. The philosophes proposed a new kind of organized
religion, a social religion which encouraged harmony and tolerance while strengthening the bonds of
moral obligations within society. One of the major French philosophes during the eighteenth century
was Voltaire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire stressed the need for people to use reason to make decisions about life.
Throughout Voltaire s life, he inspired people to use their reason to make decisions about religion. He
believed in social religion which was the belief in God and in a world of future rewards and
punishments.3 Social religion was as old as creation and believed by most people. However, it did
contradict organized Christianity with its miracles, supernatural doctrines, and its religious duties.
Voltaire made many attacks on the Bible and historic churches. He focused on the contradictions in the
Bible and the improbabilities of miracles. The greatest of his attacks was on the Old Testament.
Voltaire doubted the existence of Moses, said that the Pentateuch was absurd, and believed the Old
Testament was just a collection of fables. On the other hand, he also attacked the New Testament. He
called Jesus a good fellow, a coarse peasant, and a fanatic. 4 Many people read Voltaire s writings on
religion and so there was much dispute and conflict among the church. His attacks on the Bible made
people think and use reason in their lives.
Voltaire believed in God and that an afterlife was the most powerful force of moral constraint within
society, but as a philosophe he believed in the modern view of deism.5 Through the socialization of
deism, social religion was

all the uglies live before they turn sixteen and become pretty. Tally, the main character, who is
perseverant and indecisive, meets two other relevant characters in the story as well that are named
Shay and David. The inciting incident that starts the conflict is when Shay runs away, in hopes of
Tally finding her and not getting the operation done. The overriding conflict, however, is whether
Tally will choose to become pretty and lose her best friend or not become pretty and stay with the
people that care about her the most. Scott Westerfeld

Proposed Accounting Standards Changes and Their Effects on...
Discussion of the Changes Proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board and How These
Changes Will Affect the United States General Accepted Accounting Practices
The changes that are proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) will affect the
United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). These changes may have the most
significant effects in the areas of revenue recognition, leases, and financial instruments ( ).
The proposed changes under the IASB call for one standard be used in revenue recognition. This
standard would apply to all industries and transactions. So under such a standard, no specific revenue
for transactions and industry will exist. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also collectibility would affect the amount of revenue is recognized rather than whether revenue is
recognized. In light of this, expanded utilization of estimates would be needed to decide both the
amount to allocate and the basis for such allocation ( JA ).
The proposal would apply to all contracts that give goods or services to customers or clients, save
leases, insurance contracts and financial instruments. Under the new standard, a company would need
to disclose qualitative and quantitative information about contracts with customers and clients
inclusive of maturity analysis for contracts extending past a year, and the important judgments and
alternations in judgments done in applying the prosed standard to those contracts (JA ).
The proposed changes through the IASB will answers worries that several lease obligations are not
documented on the balance sheet and that the present accounting for leases fails to illustrate the
economics of all lease transactions ( Significant Changes). The jist of the proposal is to require and
organization to recognize assets and liabilities coming from a lease. This shows an improvement as the
existing lease standards do not require lease assets and lease liabilities to be recognized by many
lessees. A lessee would admit assets and liabilities for leases with a top term of more than twelve
months (Significant Changes). The acceptance, appraisal, and delivery of expenses an cash flow

Jorge Luis Borges Irony
The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to literary
devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors demonstrate
their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by Poe and The
Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a sensation of awe
at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of literature, forcing the
reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would find complex. These
authors are one when it comes to painting an imagine , however differences do occur within the actual

He s left clues to the resolution of the mystery throughout the story, so by the time the truth was giving
at the end, all he has to do is give us one key sentence to have everything come together. Borges keeps
the suspense until the very end, in which pace of the story is slow, leaving the readers to at the edge of
their seats. Everything that the reader had questioned was answered, whereas Poe s end still left the
reader with unanswered questions. What does the letter say? Who sent it? What s the sender s
relationship to the lady? The readers do not know as much as they did in the beginning. In addition,
are Duplin and Minister D related in some way? Their names have the same first initial, they know

Use Of Humor And Its Effect On Society
Some advertisements use humor to make the viewers want to rematch the advertisements and enjoy it
as it gives off positive feelings. In other occasions, ads like Spotify create a negative atmosphere to
provoke the person to buy a Spotify membership since Spotify repeats the same advertisement every
thirty minutes of free music that is played. These two types of techniques are useful and effective
since they drill the commercial s purpose in the individual s mind even though they might receive
different feedbacks. Another technique that commercials use is bandwagon to sell their products.
Snapchat and Instagram created a false life or society because most users now just use it to boast
about their accomplishments and display their somewhat unrealistic capacities. Some users utilize it to
show off their lifestyles, others use it to display the items that they purchased to show a false richness
or life. Their admirable followers become loyal to them or disloyal to them, creating a rivalry between
the individuals. As a result, their social relationships and connections causes the followers to purchase
the same products as their role models or causes them to become competitive and want to purchase
something of a higher value to brag about having a better life. It is also a way for people to show their
highlight feeds that avoids the outer representation of having something. In other words, society s
relationships depend on the usage of products because it can destroy or create

Secular Power In Dantes Inferno
We begin in the 14th century, at the start of the Italian Renaissance. From 1308 to 1320, Dante
Alighieri began and completed his Divine Comedy, a three part poem entailing his visionary journey
through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. It intertwines aspects of Roman Catholic doctrine
with Classical philosophy and contemporary politics, all in the dialect of Florence. He wrote this for a
myriad of reasons, ranging from the inspiration of his muse to the politics of late 13th century
Florence. The biggest political concern at the time was the struggle between church and state for
secular power. The pope, along with other characters from Florentine politics, are represented in Hell,
or the Inferno. Dante incorporates many references

American Education
Today s schools have standardized promotion requirements in the hopes that all students will be
promoted in fairness. Like most states, Ohio s criteria for promotion in grade school include a passing
grade in English composition, mathematics, science and reading. There are state mandated
benchmarks that must be met in all of these areas. The four levels of grading are: Advanced student
performs at a superior level; Proficient student has a solid performance; Deficient student s
performance is lacking; Failing student s performance is unsatisfactory. A student must be proficient
or better in all areas to qualify for promotion. Also, if a student is not performing in the C range or

Additionally, the state of Ohio uses these proficiency tests to evaluate the schools themselves. The
schools must pass all areas to retain accreditation. Approximately 93% of schools evaluated are failing
in at least one area (1998 99 1). This creates problems, as teachers, under pressure to perform well,
tend to teach toward the tests. Instead of having fun with their students and exploring areas related to
the topic, the teacher focuses on the areas the students will be tested over. That is, their curriculum
loses its wide range and tunnels towards the information covered on the tests. This tunneling tends to
narrow our children s education.
The percentages of failures indicate change is needed. A new form of educating our children, which is
really a return to the schoolhouse type of education, is Mixed Age Education. MAE is an educational
program built on the premise that different children learn different things at different rates. This
program allows children to be organized not by age, but by skill level. The groups are generally
divided into K 2 and 3 5. A child may be in Kindergarten level math and first level reading or fourth
grade science and fifth grade English. The child s progress is frequently assessed for trouble areas and
to determine when he or she is ready to advance to the next level in each individual area of teaching. A

Senate Election Reform Essay
The turn of the 20th century brought a tremendous amount of change to the United States, its
government and its citizens. A greater amount of prosperity and technology increased citizens
exposure to information. With this information came empowerment, with empowerment came the
ability to make more informed decisions about government at all levels. As people learned more they
were no longer accepting of the status quo of the States appointing their Senators. With this, pressure
came and ultimately the 17th Amendment, allowing people to directly elect their Senators. The 17th
Amendment came relatively easy but it was not without its own controversy then or now. The 17th
Amendment is a relatively simple and straight forward document. ... Show more content on

691). As the United States developed after the civil war and people gained greater access to news and
education they began to see the corruption within the senate appointment process. This started a push
for electoral reform and the progressive movement. It should not be over looked either that the
election of Senators by popular vote would not only leave the nomination and election of the members
of the legislature upon the simple issue of their fitness, but it would place every candidate before the
people, where his views and relationship to the public interests of the State could be known and
understood by all. In the first eighty years of Congress, only nine resolutions proposing a
constitutional amendment for direct election of senators were introduced in Congress. In the 1870s
and 1880s the number increased, and by 1912 no fewer than 287 such joint resolutions had been
introduced. Not until 1892 was a resolution reported favorably from committee in the House. From
1893 to 1902, momentum increased considerably. The spread of direct primaries in the 1890s led in
many states to expressions of a popular choice for senator on the primary ballot. One party legislatures
in the South generally ratified the popular choice, though the primary was less effective in putting
over the popular choice in other states. Oregon in 1901

The Incorporation Of Music In The Middle Ages
Music has always been apart of my life ,from the tender age of six years old we have ever been apart.
The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my musical
limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The formulation of
musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is in my opinion of
standing ovation recognition.
The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for
incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music
done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the
sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic
arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on
in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal
ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men alone this was clearly seen
with the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Her pieces of music was visionary ... Show more content on

expansion of music to the widely spread to everyone to princes, kings and dignitaries. There was an
increase in composers and creativity. I love the arrangement of the polyphonic and harmonic element
to the music and the overlapping of the vocals really compliments the kaotic functionality of their
music. The lack of instruments makes me appreciate the vocal instrument and the exploration of

Japan is an island nation in East Asia that is located in the Pacific Ocean. It has a total of 6, 852
islands that make up about ninety seven percent of Japan s land area. It is the world s tenth largest
population with 126 million people. The emperor ran the country until it was forced to surrender and
the United States assisted in the reform of the country. Currently, Japan is a democracy with a

Walt Disney Impact
Walt Disney, and his company s, history with urban planning had an unexpected start. Disneyland s
Main Street, U.S.A., among one of the amusement park s more ambitious lands (and one close to Walt
Disney s heart), inadvertently acted as a model for urban planning at the time of its opening and for
years to come. While Tomorrowland was actually set in the future, it was Main Street, U.S.A. that first
served as the model for real cities in designing their downtown and entertainment areas. The land
successfully blended a small town like setting with amenities often found in large cities, even in its
small scale, and became a basis for the most exhaustive park at Walt Disney World: EPCOT Center
(and later, simply Epcot). The impact of urban planning at Epcot is seen immediately, as unlike the
lands and other theme parks at Disney World, there is no entrance. This seems like a minor detail, but
it has the effect of a record scratch, in that it breaks away from the ... Show more content on

lands and parks, it was meant to influence the real world. While the actual Epcot product represented a

simultaneously keep visitors trapped in a world that a large part of the country was trying to let go of (
a paternalistic company town as worded by Detweiler in the essay Hyperurbanity). Disney couldn t
quite figure out how to let go of his old ideals and move completely into the future, with his initial
plan for Epcot (a fully functioning city of tomorrow ) already being based on outdated design. Having
to scrap that idea, he settled for a space age vision of the future, incorporating the pre existing Disney

The Amazing Development Of Communication Tools Essay
It is such a magic. I cannot believe I am talking with you between Japan and the US. My grandmother
said to me when we talked on Skype. Her saying made me realize the marvelous development of
communication tools. As she said, the current technology which is supporting our communication is
developing in unbelievable speed. Besides, such development is supporting a development of the other
fields. We can have a business meeting via video call such a Skype. We can learn new languages by
chatting with native speakers. Communication and technologies for communication are foundations
for everything. However, are we optimizing such wonderful equipment or services? We are not
properly using such tools because we sometimes are not being able to correctly behave in our
diversified communications. In the primitive era, our ancestors only can communicate in a face using
words from their mouth. After then, they have got the letters, phone, the internet, and so on in order to
communicate with others who were in far away. In my grandmother s generation, they sent a letter to a
person. Sometimes, letters were not delivered. Comparing that, nowadays, we can talk in a video call.
We can feel the others real feeling, tone, face expression, body languages, and everything. Those
developments of communication tools are apparently transcending traditional common sense that we
were familiar with. This must be like a magic. However, recent communications differ than before. I

Comparison Of Receptors And Olfactory
Odors are a distinctive smell, especially an un unpleasant one. Odors attach to receptors of olfactory
cells in the nasal mucosa. Olfactory cells in the nasal mucosa are where they activate nerve signals.
These signals are processed in the olfactory bulb, a structure at the base of the forebrain that transmit
the signal to other brain areas. People have about 450 olfactory receptors. Each receptor can be
activated by many different odor molecules, and each odor molecule can activate several different
types of receptors. However, the forces that bind receptors and odor molecules can greatly differ in
strength, so that some interactions are better fits than others. The complication of receptors and their
synergy with odor molecules are what

The Effects Of Single Parent Home Research
For several years, the focus of much single parent home research has been concentrated on households
where the father is not present. Due to the prevalent influence of various psychoanalytical theories,
and the enormous amounts of female headed households. Research shows that there are six general
effects bestowed upon children who live in single parent homes; regardless of the reason for the single
parent status. The six general effects are:
Loss of concentration or attention
Delinquency and substance abuse
Withdraw from family and friends
A decline in academic scores and behavioral issues at school, and at home
Emotional outbursts, and often an increase in health issues
Severe anger issues (Hurtes, 2004).
These are just the general effects on some children being raised in a single parent home. In addition to
these general effects, there are more age specific effects on some children who live in single parent
homes. The following is a brief summarization of some effects which children of different age ranges
may experience while living in a single parent home.
For children ages 3 5 years of age:
Regression to more infant like behavior
Feeling frightened, insecure, and angry
Children in Single Parent Homes 9
Some may experience nightmares, excessive or uncontrollable crying, and separation anxiety
Changes in their eating or sleeping habits.
For children ages 6 8 years of age:

Advanced Level Of Technology And The Human Brain
Essay 1 Assignment With todays advanced level of technology, we contemplate and entertain the
thought of computers actually becoming intelligent through artificial intelligence and eventually out
perform the human brain. The problem is not just a struggle between the human brain and the
computer processing unit of a machine, but whether or not human engineering and programing is as
good or better than mother nature and evolution is or will ever be. The race to develop artificial
intelligence that is capable cognitive awareness ultimately turns into a battle between the evolutionary
process of nature and the accelerated progress of human science. However, science and nature have
vastly different ways in how they process information. Nature has produced intelligence of the brain
and awareness in one s self through evolution. Science is a product of the brain and developed through
the progression of human intellect . Any outside influence with the world and stimulus in it is
absorbed by the brain and interpreted before the information is transformed into ideas and assembled
into knowledge. As Alex Knapp describes the brain as a parallel processing network, that can actively
change through influences by will or environment. (3) The rapid development of highly sophisticated
machines and understanding of science in our lifetime has been nothing short of spectacular human
innovation. With the great successes of the past a great number of individuals believe that computers

Lab Report On Iron Stoichiometry
Copper/Iron Stoichiometry
Grace Timler
AB1
October 3, 2017 Abstract
The techniques used in this lab are quantitative transfer and vacuum filtration with the reaction of
8.001 grams of copper (II) sulfate, CuSO4, and 2.0153 grams of iron powder, Fe. The goal of this
experiment was to determine the product of copper (II) sulfate with iron. The reaction occurred and
2.4469 grams of solid copper, Cu, precipitated; therefore, showing that the limiting reagent was iron.
The iron oxidation state was iron (II) because iron (II) sulfate was formed during the reaction. The
percent yield of the reaction was 106.7%.

The solid was washed over vacuum filtration with a 15.0mL DI water rinse. Then the solid was
washed again by four 15.0mL rinses of acetone. The copper was dried over the vacuum filtration for
exactly 10 minutes, so there was no excess water and the copper did not oxidize. Then the mass of the
crucible was taken again with the product included using the same analytic balance as before, which
came out to be 32.9490 grams. The amount of solid copper collected was 2.4469 grams, calculated by
subtracting the initial weight of the crucible from the final weight.
Results
The empty sintered glass crucible had a mass of 30.5021 grams (table 1). Then the reaction occurred
and the copper precipitate was collected the crucible plus product had a mass of 32.9490 grams.
Therefore, the mass of the precipitated copper was 2.4469 grams. The moles of CuSO4 and Fe used
and the moles of Cu precipitated are shown in Table 2.

Patriot Act Pros And Cons
Sixty percent of all Americans wish to see the Patriot act be reformed. The Patriot Act gives the power
to the FBI and Homeland Security to spy on many Americans and collect personal information. It
invades privacy, violates civil liberties and the Fourth Amendment, and does not contribute to the fight
against terrorism; it takes away freedom of speech and any form of privacy from Americans. In
addition to invading the personal lives of many Americans, the patriot act has also been proven to
have no effect on stopping potential terrorist attacks in the United States. The Patriot act is a violation

Struggle for Children’s Rights
I want a permanent divorce, this is a saying of a 10 year old wife who was suffering from child
marriage (Worth, Voices Child Marriage Yemen ). Child marriage is a terrible scenario for children,
especially for little girls. They are forced to marry, before they are mature enough due to social norms,
traditions and their family members, whom they are depending on. According to statistics in 2013, in
Bangladesh, the child marriage prevalence under the age of 18 is 66%. 240 among 100,000 child
wives died, when they gave birth. In Niger, this figure rises to 75% and 339. In Chad, this figure is

In this book a volcano erupted which spread ash through the air. People started to turn on each other,
but Miles and his family stuck with one another and were able to survive this way. This is first present
in the text when it states, Sarah herself grabbed my shirt or I might have fallen overboard. (Will
Weaver 35) This proves that teamwork can help you to survive because Sarah helped Miles when he
needed it, to stay a live. If she did not help him with teamwork then he most likely would have died.
The author does this through revealing actions because he wants to show us that teamwork isn t a
though, it isn t by yourself you have to actually physically work with someone. Another way that
teamwork is present in the text is when it says, He s getting a lesson in how to use his new gun, Danny
replied (Will Weaver 173)This again proves that working together can help you to survive because this
man is helping Miles to make sure that he can stay alive. They do this together and without this
interaction Miles and his family would not have any protection. So with the doings of others, Miles
and his family are able to survive. To conclude the book Memory Boy Uses teamwork/ working
together to show survival. These revealing actions show us that teamwork isn t small things it s big

Essay on The Deeper Meaning of Frost’s Tuft of Flowers
The Deeper Meaning of Frost s Tuft of Flowers
Robert Lee Frost published his first book of poems entitled A Boy s Will in 1913. From this collection
come one of several poems that critics and anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical and
autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert Frost
Handbook, explains [that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his personal
problems and complexities from his reading and listening audiences (Potter 48). Through The Tuft of
Flowers, a kind of lyrical soliloquy, Frost half intentionally reveals his personal views on the theme of
fellowship (Potter 48).
In the first of three transitions the speaker, most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came back
to me (17 18). Here, the butterfly seems to parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the field and the
delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this comparison that Frost,
like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times during his life but because
the grass chokes the beauty in the field, the good times are beset with feelings of loneliness and grief.
The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a tall tuft of flowers beside a brook (22). The
significance of the flowers and the brook can not be overlooked, because at this place in the poem the
mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to send a message
to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be alone in his life s
work (22). This couplet of the poem is significant because it gives us a clue to how God reveals to the
speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes the ground to give life to the
beauty he possesses. In addition, through God s infinite wisdom and mercy, Frost s loneliness and
grief will someday again turn back into fellowship and joy.

The Greatest Military Of The Invaded Country
A general should be capable of making all the resources of the invaded country contribute to the
success of his enterprise
Lt. Gen. Antoine Henri, Baron De Jominin
Leadership is a powerful thing when it comes to the survival of a nation. It becomes even more
valuable for countries that want to concur and expand into foreign land. Such an expansion would
require individuals with not only control domestically, but militarily. Men of this caliber have existed
in human history and they have used their predecessors as examples to build upon. In France s long
history, no other leader has made an impact on their history than Napoleon Bonaparte. He s known

He would do so through the practice of curry favors. Grateful of his work, the French government
granted the Bonaparte family with financial benefits to send little Napoleon to school for a proper
education at the military college of Brienne. Seeing a Third Estate member being accepted to a
Military Academy was something unheard of.
This move suited Napoleon well. From a very young age, he had a fondness in the art of war. This is
the same man who would later coin that same phrase Art of War . Once he was of age, Napoleon was
enrolled into the Brienne le Chateau Military Academy where he would learn in the art of
Mathematics, Latin, History, Geography, Physics, Weaponry, Fencing and many other expectable
subjects when it came to a royal education of military. Early on, Napoleon s experiences at Brienne
were quite different than most who attending the Academy. Due to his early maturation in
mathematics, Napoleon was granted the right to enroll ahead of time for his upper level classes
because the Academy felt it would be best to challenge the young Bonaparte. It is very likely that this
is where Napoleon grew very fond of not only Geometry but also the importance of geography and
map making. This is where young Napoleon would see why anything around him could be used in
many ways. It was also here where some at the Academy actually recommended that he d become an
engineer because of his understanding of empty space. As he furthered

Essay about To My Dear and Loving Husband
To my Dear and Loving Husband
Romantic language in literature has been used for ages to express authors feelings for another human
being. This language has been developed through out the years to create ways in which different types
of romantic emotions can be expressed in writing. From the breath taking romantic novels of today all
the way back to the first writers of the Bible and the romantic books of Song of Solomon and Psalms,
romantic language has not only been used to express human emotions but also the role of these
emotions in the culture of the times. There have been numerous authors who dared to go beyond what
their society would have viewed as politically or morally correct. Anne Bradstreet is one of these
authors; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The title, To my Dear and Loving Husband, clearly signifies that this poem was intended for her
husband alone. Bradstreet did not live in a time where woman authors would have been very highly
respected for their work; this allowed her the opportunity to create very personal pieces because she
believed that they would never be published. If Bradstreet had intended for her poetry to become
available for the public she would have been forced to write much differently. Bradstreet understood
the implications of writing her true emotions and never would have done so if she had not felt that
they would have been kept safe from the scrutiny of her fellow puritans. The fear of being ridiculed,
banished or killed would have stopped Bradstreet from ever composing poetry for the public as racy
as the poems she created for her family especially her husband. Due to the fact that she believed no
one would read this poem besides her husband she was able to write more closely to how she truly felt
without fear or trepidation, this is apparent in the fact that this particular poem is much different from
many of her other poems.
There are many aspects of the poem To my Dear and Loving Husband which set it apart from most of
Bradstreet s other poetry. The poem begins with one solid, short and concise sentence, this is far
different than most of her poems which begin with a vague idea or a much longer complex statement.
This shows a change in writing

Analyse the key beliefs of a religious and secular world view in relation to ultimate questions Taylor
Murfitt.
In this report I will be both contrasting and comparing the religious view of Catholicism and the world
view of Secular Humanism. The three questions I will be analysing through the religious view of
Catholicism and the world view Secular Humanism include:
Is there a higher being?
What is the purpose of my life?
Is there a right way to treat people?
These three questions are very much conflicting worldwide and many philosophical discussions have
been debated for years, however with many different views on the world, not everyone on Earth has
the same answer to these. This may be due to different upbringings through youth, values, and overall
beliefs, including Catholicism and Secular Humanism. Within this report there is no aim of finding the
truth or the actual answer, it is simply an analysis of people s personal beliefs to these questions. I am
going to include others opinions including my own interviewee s (would like to be kept anonymous)
thoughts and beliefs throughout the report, including my own, and opinions I have researched to
further analyse opinions of different groups that can support these worldviews.
A brief description of the religious view Catholicism: A denomination of Christianity. I have decided
to specifically narrow my world religion view to Catholicism, which is one of the main and largely
practiced branches of Christianity.

The Incredible Mind of Sir Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was an instrumental figure to the rise of modern science. Through his incredible mind,
he was able to usher in a new age of science that revolved around logic and reason. He had redefined
natural philosophy at the time and had enlightened the world with his mechanistic world view.
However, Newton was not exactly as dedicated to logic and reason as many would like to think.
Newton not only spent a significant amount of his time in the occult sciences such as alchemy, but was
a deeply religious individual as well. Often times, many think of Newton as being one who pushed
away religious faith as a means to uncovering the natural world by solely depending on the empirical
science, however that is incorrect. Newton was very much influenced by his religious beliefs. In my
paper, I aim to bring Newton s religiosity to light and uncover how it not only influenced his work in
the natural science but how it led him to great research in alchemy as well. I will also focus on why
Newton did not bring out his religious inclinations during his time which would forever change his
portrayal in the modern world. In order to answer my first point of how religion influenced Newton s
works, I will be relying heavily on Charles Webster s From Paracelsus to Newton: Magic and the
Making of Modern Science and Richard Westfall s Science and Religion in Seventeenth Century
England. I will also be looking at some scholarly articles such as William Austin s Newton on

How Judaism and Christianity Diverged
The origins of Christianity can be originated in Judaism and for that reason it is no surprise that both
religions have many beliefs in common. During the earliest beginnings, Christianity was a part of
Judaism, but currently they are two distinct communities. However, they are bound together by their
belief in one God and to worship any other is to deny Him. The separation between both religions did
not happen fast or easy. The entire division took some hundred years and the very complex separation
didn t happen all at once. Christianity began with Jesus Christ and his disciples about 2000 years ago
in Judea. Throughout that duration of time, Judea was ruled over the emperor of Rome, Constantine.

Diedrich Knickerbocker Essay
Diedrich Knickerbocker Washington Irving created a pseudo historian for the purpose of bettering his
own work and to entertain his readers. In 1809 Irving wrote A History of New York through a persona
known as Diedrich Knickerbocker. This was Knickerbocker s first appearance in Irving s work, but it
sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a historian that seemed to be in
love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New York. Even though Irving never
revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within Knickerbocker s writing. Washington
Irving was born in New York City in 1783, he always had an appreciation of the land and people from
there. Irving was quite opposed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of Sleepy
Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his readers, but he
mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of Dutch origin, he made
sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the incredible scenery of New
York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch people. In Rip Van Winkle he
says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in its low roofed farmhouse, under a
spreading sycamore (Irving 573). He also describes a great mountain setting in New York When the
weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the
clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood
of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up
like a crown of glory. Diedrich Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of
writing was a perilous enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their
quest for fame. Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and
hardships as they journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required

Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest
Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men in
the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should be
protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t quite the
sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have about the way
to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle anything serious is
present. Furthermore, when Algernon discovers that Cecily is convinced that they had met before and
had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane. This perpetuates the belief
that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in their life. In addition to this,
Gwendolen and Cecily are the ones being deceived by Jack and Algernon. This shows that women are
stereotypically submissive to men and can be taken advantage of. Through evaluating The Importance

addition to this, Wilde refutes the morality of the Victorian elite. The main two characters, Jack and

Shaping Identity Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an
individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding

their existence in life. In regards, identity is shaped into an individual through the social trials of life
that involve family and peers, the religious beliefs by the practice of certain faiths, and cultural

It is the search of what one calls faith in one s self and the worship of either one supreme being or

People who practice a certain religion will more likely raise their children under that same religion.
Being raised practicing a religion creates the virtues and morals for that person s identity from an early

  • 3. Freedom Of African American Youth Is general, is it necessary for our youth to be profiled and questioned for everything that we do? When Martin Luther King, and all the other great civil rights leaders that were taught to them in schools about walking for our justice and freedom, it seems like the freedom they were discussing and wanting for their people is the freedom that white American gave to black youth by mistake. When you look at how our African American youth are treated in wherever they go, it prompts the question, are they really free? Can our youth actually go apply for jobs like their white counterparts and actually be looked at for their skills not for the color of their skin. • 4. Voltaire and the Enlightenment Essay Voltaire and the Enlightenment During the eighteenth century a group of French writers and critics known as the Philosophes favored change and reform. They believed in the power of the human mind, which was an idea that was inspired by the Scientific Revolution. The philosophes had faith in the power of rational criticism to challenge the tradition of the past. They also sought to apply the rules of reason and common sense to nearly all major institutions and social practices. The philosophes proposed a new kind of organized religion, a social religion which encouraged harmony and tolerance while strengthening the bonds of moral obligations within society. One of the major French philosophes during the eighteenth century was Voltaire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Voltaire stressed the need for people to use reason to make decisions about life. Throughout Voltaire s life, he inspired people to use their reason to make decisions about religion. He believed in social religion which was the belief in God and in a world of future rewards and punishments.3 Social religion was as old as creation and believed by most people. However, it did contradict organized Christianity with its miracles, supernatural doctrines, and its religious duties. Voltaire made many attacks on the Bible and historic churches. He focused on the contradictions in the Bible and the improbabilities of miracles. The greatest of his attacks was on the Old Testament. Voltaire doubted the existence of Moses, said that the Pentateuch was absurd, and believed the Old Testament was just a collection of fables. On the other hand, he also attacked the New Testament. He called Jesus a good fellow, a coarse peasant, and a fanatic. 4 Many people read Voltaire s writings on religion and so there was much dispute and conflict among the church. His attacks on the Bible made people think and use reason in their lives. Voltaire believed in God and that an afterlife was the most powerful force of moral constraint within society, but as a philosophe he believed in the modern view of deism.5 Through the socialization of deism, social religion was ... Discussion of the Changes Proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board and How These Changes Will Affect the United States General Accepted Accounting Practices The changes that are proposed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) will affect the United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). These changes may have the most significant effects in the areas of revenue recognition, leases, and financial instruments ( ). • 7. Jorge Luis Borges Irony The writing styles of Edgar Allen Poe and Jorge Luis Borges are very in sync when it comes to literary devices such as irony, imagery, setting and so on. In many of their stories, the authors demonstrate their extraordinary technique through the short story The Purloined Letter written by Poe and The Garden of Forking Paths written by Borges. Piquing the readers mind and causing a sensation of awe at the end their story, they entice the reader to experience a whole new world of literature, forcing the reader to scrutinize the text in a manner, in which a pedestrian reader would find complex. Borges keeps the suspense until the very end, in which pace of the story is slow, leaving the readers to at the edge of their seats. Everything that the reader had questioned was answered, whereas Poe s end still left the reader with unanswered questions. What does the letter say? Who sent it? • 8. Use Of Humor And Its Effect On Society Some advertisements use humor to make the viewers want to rematch the advertisements and enjoy it as it gives off positive feelings. In other occasions, ads like Spotify create a negative atmosphere to provoke the person to buy a Spotify membership since Spotify repeats the same advertisement every thirty minutes of free music that is played. These two types of techniques are useful and effective since they drill the commercial s purpose in the individual s mind even though they might receive different feedbacks. Another technique that commercials use is bandwagon to sell their products. Snapchat and Instagram created a false life or society because most users now just use it to boast about their accomplishments and display their somewhat unrealistic capacities. Some users utilize it to show off their lifestyles, others use it to display the items that they purchased to show a false richness or life. Their admirable followers become loyal to them or disloyal to them, creating a rivalry between the individuals. As a result, their social relationships and connections causes the followers to purchase the same products as their role models or causes them to become competitive and want to purchase something of a higher value to brag about having a better life. It is also a way for people to show their highlight feeds that avoids the outer representation of having something. From 1308 to 1320, Dante Alighieri began and completed his Divine Comedy, a three part poem entailing his visionary journey through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. It intertwines aspects of Roman Catholic doctrine with Classical philosophy and contemporary politics, all in the dialect of Florence. He wrote this for a myriad of reasons, ranging from the inspiration of his muse to the politics of late 13th century Florence. The biggest political concern at the time was the struggle between church and state for secular power. The pope, along with other characters from Florentine politics, are represented in Hell, or the Inferno. Dante incorporates many references ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like most states, Ohio s criteria for promotion in grade school include a passing grade in English composition, mathematics, science and reading. There are state mandated benchmarks that must be met in all of these areas. The four levels of grading are: Advanced student performs at a superior level; Proficient student has a solid performance; Deficient student s performance is lacking; Failing student s performance is unsatisfactory. Approximately 93% of schools evaluated are failing in at least one area (1998 99 1). This creates problems, as teachers, under pressure to perform well, tend to teach toward the tests. Instead of having fun with their students and exploring areas related to the topic, the teacher focuses on the areas the students will be tested over. That is, their curriculum loses its wide range and tunnels towards the information covered on the tests. This tunneling tends to narrow our children s education. The percentages of failures indicate change is needed. A new form of educating our children, which is really a return to the schoolhouse type of education, is Mixed Age Education. MAE is an educational program built on the premise that different children learn different things at different rates. This program allows children to be organized not by age, but by skill level. The groups are generally divided into K 2 and 3 5. A child may be in Kindergarten level math and first level reading or fourth grade science and fifth grade English. The child s progress is frequently assessed for trouble areas and to determine when he or she is ready to advance to the next level in each individual area of teaching. A child s progress is ... • 11. Senate Election Reform Essay The turn of the 20th century brought a tremendous amount of change to the United States, its government and its citizens. A greater amount of prosperity and technology increased citizens exposure to information. With this information came empowerment, with empowerment came the ability to make more informed decisions about government at all levels. As people learned more they were no longer accepting of the status quo of the States appointing their Senators. With this, pressure came and ultimately the 17th Amendment, allowing people to directly elect their Senators. The 17th Amendment came relatively easy but it was not without its own controversy then or now. The 17th Amendment is a relatively simple and straight forward document. ... As the United States developed after the civil war and people gained greater access to news and education they began to see the corruption within the senate appointment process. This started a push for electoral reform and the progressive movement. It should not be over looked either that the election of Senators by popular vote would not only leave the nomination and election of the members of the legislature upon the simple issue of their fitness, but it would place every candidate before the people, where his views and relationship to the public interests of the State could be known and understood by all. In the first eighty years of Congress, only nine resolutions proposing a constitutional amendment for direct election of senators were introduced in Congress. In the 1870s and 1880s the number increased, and by 1912 no fewer than 287 such joint resolutions had been introduced. Not until 1892 was a resolution reported favorably from committee in the House. From 1893 to 1902, momentum increased considerably. The spread of direct primaries in the 1890s led in many states to expressions of a popular choice for senator on the primary ballot. One party legislatures in the South generally ratified the popular choice, though the primary was less effective in putting over the popular choice in other states. Oregon in 1901 ... The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my musical limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The formulation of musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is in my opinion of standing ovation recognition. The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal ranges. Disneyland s Main Street, U.S.A., among one of the amusement park s more ambitious lands (and one close to Walt Disney s heart), inadvertently acted as a model for urban planning at the time of its opening and for years to come. While Tomorrowland was actually set in the future, it was Main Street, U.S.A. that first served as the model for real cities in designing their downtown and entertainment areas. The land successfully blended a small town like setting with amenities often found in large cities, even in its small scale, and became a basis for the most exhaustive park at Walt Disney World: EPCOT Center (and later, simply Epcot). Communication and technologies for communication are foundations for everything. However, are we optimizing such wonderful equipment or services? We are not properly using such tools because we sometimes are not being able to correctly behave in our diversified communications. In the primitive era, our ancestors only can communicate in a face using words from their mouth. After then, they have got the letters, phone, the internet, and so on in order to communicate with others who were in far away. In my grandmother s generation, they sent a letter to a person. Sometimes, letters were not delivered. Comparing that, nowadays, we can talk in a video call. We can feel the others real feeling, tone, face expression, body languages, and everything. From this collection come one of several poems that critics and anthologists alike highly regard as both lyrical and autobiographical in nature. One such critic, James L. Potter, in his book entitled [The] Robert Frost Handbook, explains [that] Frost wore a mask in public much of the time, concealing his personal problems and complexities from his reading and listening audiences (Potter 48). The speaker notes that the butterfly flies as far as eye could see / (but) on tremulous wing came back to me (17 18). Here, the butterfly seems to parallel the thoughts the speaker has about the field and the delight it brought both of them the day before. The reader can infer from this comparison that Frost, like the butterfly, has enjoyed great beauty, joy, and love at certain times during his life but because the grass chokes the beauty in the field, the good times are beset with feelings of loneliness and grief. The butterfly eventually turns and leads the speaker to a tall tuft of flowers beside a brook (22). The significance of the flowers and the brook can not be overlooked, because at this place in the poem the mood suddenly swings from pessimism to optimism. It seems that God was trying to send a message to Frost that the field of life can be filled with beauty and he might not always be alone in his life s work (22). This couplet of the poem is significant because it gives us a clue to how God reveals to the speaker that, although the field of life appears barren, a brook nourishes the ground to give life to the beauty he possesses. In addition, through God s infinite wisdom and mercy, Frost s loneliness and grief will someday again turn back into fellowship and joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through his incredible mind, he was able to usher in a new age of science that revolved around logic and reason. However, Newton was not exactly as dedicated to logic and reason as many would like to think. Newton not only spent a significant amount of his time in the occult sciences such as alchemy, but was a deeply religious individual as well. Often times, many think of Newton as being one who pushed away religious faith as a means to uncovering the natural world by solely depending on the empirical science, however that is incorrect. However, they are bound together by their belief in one God and to worship any other is to deny Him. The separation between both religions did not happen fast or easy. The entire division took some hundred years and the very complex separation didn t happen all at once. Christianity began with Jesus Christ and his disciples about 2000 years ago in Judea. Throughout that duration of time, Judea was ruled over the emperor of Rome, Constantine. The Romans were pagan and had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Diedrich Knickerbocker Essay Diedrich Knickerbocker Washington Irving created a pseudo historian for the purpose of bettering his own work and to entertain his readers. In 1809 Irving wrote A History of New York through a persona known as Diedrich Knickerbocker. This was Knickerbocker s first appearance in Irving s work, but it sure wouldn t be his last. Although he was not real, Knickerbocker was a historian that seemed to be in love with the people and landscape of the northeast, particularly New York. Even though Irving never revealed it, some of his characteristics may be found within Knickerbocker s writing. Another story that was found among the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker was The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Both of these stories are tall tales that Irving wrote as entertainment for his readers, but he mentioned in both that these were stories told to Knickerbocker by people of Dutch origin, he made sure that the reader knew that. In both of these stories Irving describes the incredible scenery of New York, and he also describes the kindness and simplicity of the Dutch people. In Rip Van Winkle he says he happened upon a genuine Dutch family, snugly shut up in its low roofed farmhouse, under a spreading sycamore (Irving 573). He also describes a great mountain setting in New York When the weather is fair and settled, they are clothed in blue and purple, and print their bold outlines on the clear evening sky; but, sometimes, when the rest of the landscape is cloudless, they will gather a hood of gray vapors about their summits, which, in the last rays of the setting sun, will glow and light up like a crown of glory. Diedrich Knickerbocker s conception of authorship was heroic. The business of writing was a perilous enterprise, and only those who were dauntless and daring could succeed in their quest for fame. Writers were intrepid knights who courageously confronted all difficulties and hardships as they journeyed toward publication, a textual pilgrimage that required ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men in the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should be protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have about the way to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle anything serious is present. Furthermore, when Algernon discovers that Cecily is convinced that they had met before and had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane. This perpetuates the belief that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in their life. In addition to this, Gwendolen and Cecily are the ones being deceived by Jack and Algernon. This shows that women are stereotypically submissive to men and can be taken advantage of. Through evaluating The Importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While those of the Victorian upper class were usually the most refined and intelligent, Wilde portrays them as ignorant and dense. One of the most well described ladies, Miss Prism, is shown to be the least aware. The most cultivated of ladies, and the very picture of respectability (63). She is ultimately the most absent minded and leaves baby Jack in a handbag in a cloak room of a major railway station. Through Miss Prism, Wilde is able to propagandize the intelligence the aristocrats usually embody. In addition to this, Wilde refutes the morality of the Victorian elite. The main two characters, Jack and Algernon, are deceptive and are rarely seen to have any morals. Reviewing this play with a sociological/Marxist perspective provides insight on how Wilde wants others to perceive the elite of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
