Investment Proposal Essay example
The Investment Proposal
In early January of 2013, Manuel Pena, a venture capitalist, was attending a presentation conducted by
two brothers Dr. Adya Bharat and Dr. Sidhu Bharat in New York City. Mannuel had been invited to
the meeting by Sydney Smithers, a friend of his who knew he d been actively looking for small
businesses in which to invest. Sydney, a fellow Canadian, owned two businesses: one was a nursing
home and the other, Durable Medical Equipment (DME), sold medical supplies for elderly people,
including such items as walkers, canes, and special toilet seats. Sydney and the Bharat brothers were
hoping Manuel would agree to invest $100,000 in their business proposition.
Sydney had gotten to know Adya while they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So they turned to their birthplace, India, in search of opportunity. The Bharat brothers had since
established their business in the city of Pune.

This is a great time to expand in India, Sidhu said. There s no such service there, since 75% of health
care is private pay. And Pune is the best city to do it in. Plus, by being first with our service, we ll be
better able to establish our reputation. Any competition that may come alone afterward will simply
help sell our service to customers, Sidhu added.
Pune is known as the Oxford of the East because of its educational institutions, Adya put in. But it also
has well established manufacturing industries. We grew up there, but since then it s changed
completely. It s grown tremendously as more people have moved to the city to work with companies
that have set up operations in information technology and automotive manufacturing. Pune s
population is now 9.6 million, and it has the highest per capita income of any city in India 50% higher
than India s average income.
The need for our service stems from the increasing mobility of Indian society, Adya continued.
Young people used to live with their parents and support them. Now they re moving to Pune and other
cities for high paying jobs that have them working 12 hours a day. Since they re no longer living with
their parents, the parents have had to become

Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life Of Ivan...
Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about
a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and
subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism
was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore,
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to
function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction
on collective farms and in government factories. Thesis. The theme of work is prevalent throughout
the novella and throughout the history of the Soviet Union.
Soviet literature was increasing in popularity beginning in 1921. (DoaP). In the Soviet Union,
literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out
class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face
of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over
local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring
Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. (PW)
Like many works of literature, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich may be seen as a social
commentary on the Soviet Union. The

How Does Boo Radley Show Courage
It smelled bad, but everyone smelled the popcorn all over the place as people were jumping up and
down with it because of the close game. It was really cold during the game. Everyone was screaming
and it would sound like someone screaming right into your ear. People could feel the sharp cold air go
down their throats as they breathed and everybody could see every player on the ice and bench. I had
to step up and take the puck all the way up through all five of the opposing skaters on the ice. I had to
do a lot of moves to get around them, but I shot the puck off the board to myself the most. After that I
had to get my shot on the net, so I made sure I was going to get the puck on the goal. I shot the puck
on the opposing goalie and bounced right off of him. I was able to get the rebound and score ... Show

Helping others shows courage by know what you help other people and that many people to try and
help all of these people. One example is from the book when Boo Radley had come out of his house
and saved Jem and Scout when they had been attacked by Bob Ewell and then Boo Radley killed Bob
Ewell with the knife he was going to use to kill the kids. This is courage because Boo never comes out
of his house and he knows that the kids have been chatting with him for a while and he was a friend to
them so he stepped up and he helped them. Another example is that lawyers are willing to stand up to
help their defendants in the courtroom. I know this because lawyers want t make sure that the innocent
people don t end up in jail because they want a fair and even casein the courtroom. The evidence
connects to the contention because it shows how people stand up for other people s beliefs even if they
might not believe in that. Also the contention connects to the thesis because it is hard to help all of
these people all the time but you need to be willing to show that you do have courage by going and

Critical Success Factors Of BPM
Critical success Factors of BPM
This part of the research will discuss about the critical success factors of Business Process
Management. Prior to the discussion of the CSF s of BPM it is important to point down the factors
that influences success can be classified in to two groups.
The first group consists of the predecessors, which should already exist in the organization, prior to
the implementation of BPM project. The BPM project has only very little influence over the first
group. Example Culture.
The second group consists of the all the other factors (Leadership, Communication, Information
Technology, Methodology, Project Management, and Strategic alignment,) that should be considered
for the implementation of BPM Projects.

Leadership
There are lot of literatures which focuses on the role of leadership in BPM efforts (e.g. Ahadi (2004)
and Sutcliffe (1999)); the role of leadership in BPM process leads to the process driving, monitoring
and controlling. Hammer and Champy (1993) said that the reason for most of the failures in business
process changes is the lack of leadership. They explained a senior management leader should be
effective in eliminating the political issues among the employees in the organization, should be
capable of providing a suitable structure for compensations, solving the conflicts between the
managers and the employees and should lead the IT department in organizations.
The senior management should have high power which lead to effective implementation of BPM
projects.
Leadership is very important in different phases and levels of implementation of BPM projects and
some of its affects in the process have been explained widely in different research.
Leadership in BPM Success context can be classified in to two main sub constructs. They are as

Manage own performance in a business environment
1.1 Outline guidelines, procedures codes of practice relevant to personal work
There are a number of guidelines and procedures in place to enable me to do my job not only to the
best of my ability but in a professional manner. Whilst on the reception area, there are procedures that
need to be followed relating to various aspects of the job including correct procedures to greet visitors,
answer the telephone, dealing with incoming and outgoing mail, booking meeting rooms as well as
many other procedures. All of the relevant procedures are kept in a file at the reception area where any

Any technical fault that involves your computer you should report this to your computer technician if
your company has one. Large companies usually have a team of technicians to help solve various
problems. Things like photocopier running out of paper use your brain and fill the paper tray yourself
with the correct size and type of paper. If there is a jam, try and resolve this yourself without creating
danger or ask somebody who knows how to fix this. If someone is required but not available or if you
are having trouble tracking them down, the best thing to do is direct the query to the next person in
line.
1.9 Describe ways of seeking assistance with getting help to resolve problems
Determine the severity of the problem.
How serious or relevant is the problem to the work environment? To you, the individual involved?
Again, is it important enough and worth tackling? Less serious work related problems might include
minor inconveniences and annoyances in the work environment, such as supplies required are out of
stock, the copy machine wasn t refilled with paper, and so on. Often these types of problems can be
easily addressed by communicating concerns with the individual involved. Sometimes minor
inconveniences and annoyances are brushed aside and ignored and sometimes should be. Work related

Making Preservation Possible For City Skylines
Devon O Geary Mrs. Hinner LNG 341 11 November 2015 Making Preservation Possible City
skylines can be easily recognized for their unique architectural features, such as sharply pointed
steeples, dramatic heights, and distinctively shaped buildings. In the United States, the skylines of
New York, Chicago, and Seattle show familiar features, such as the Empire State Building, the Sears
Tower, and the Space Needle respectively. Buildings in Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah,
Georgia are also acclaimed for their quaint style and Southern Charm. Many of these notable
architectural works of art, referred to generally as historic buildings or historic structures, would cease
to exist without the hard work of preservation societies. These societies, as well as the notable
architecture they preserve, provide educational lessons outside of the traditional classroom for today s
youth. For these reasons, the nation s historic buildings need to be preserved and restored to their
original glory. More state and city governments should follow the federal government s lead and
provide tax incentives to encourage builders to remodel, and thus preserve historic buildings,
preventing the demolition of iconic landmarks. A historic building is any place with historical context.
The word historic is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as famous or important in history; having
great and lasting importance; or happening or existing in the past, (Merriam Webster). Chris Morris of

The Epidemic Of South Africa
At the height of the most recent Ebola epidemic in West Africa, fear amongst American citizens about
the possibility of a more local outbreak resulted in representatives being pressured into creating harsh
policies. One option that representatives of several states endorsed was a mandatory quarantine of all
individuals arriving from Ebola stricken countries. This policy was implemented despite severe
criticism from several medical professional organizations including Mèdecins Sans Frontières
(Doctors without Borders), the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of
America, and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (Park,

This fear was indicative of national health agencies and representatives failure to communicate the
low risk of transmission. Ebola is only communicable through direct contact with bodily fluids after a
person has begun to display symptoms, the first of which is often a fever ( Ethics and Ebola: Public
Health Planning and Response , 14 15). However, even at the start of symptom expression, people are
unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during the first couple days after the onset of
fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Ebola often returns false negatives during this
period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime
example of the virus s low transmission rate at the onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in
close quarters with for several days while symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the
nurses caring for him towards the end of his life when his virion count was high, did. Moreover, the
level of the health infrastructure and equipment that is available in the United States is drastically
better staffed, trained, and equipped than in West Africa. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms
here, they can be quickly isolated, which was not possible in Liberia. The lack of any public health
authorities to monitor cases of the

The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca...
The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was also a
darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story of
ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of an
unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the house that
the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher ups of this time
had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had money and were
considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly considered humans.
These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive manner. Davis purpose was
to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils within the industrial society while
also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today s society sees the industrial
revolution as a very important piece to today s modern world. This is true, and the industrial
revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions today, but the darker side of
this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never discussed. The story starts off
with the narrator observing the people below from a window, bustling around a middle class mill
town. The narrator describes the poor quality of the town, smoke from the factories filling the sky and

Feudal Society In Medieval Europe
A feudal society is one in which the lords carry a significant measure of power by owning land.
Workers known as Serfs are included on the land. Serfs owe the lord a certain amount of labor as well
as give the lord a portion of their goods. The lords then gives protection to the serfs from their knights.
To get knights, the lord offers a fief(land) to the knight in exchange for military service. A feudal
society had the characteristic of being decentralized. It also had major roles and responsibilities that
everyone needed to follow in order to keep the society intact. During the early Middle Ages,
decentralized governments, attacks from the Vikings and other barbarians, and the strong power of the
Church strongly abetted the formation of the feudal society in Medieval Europe. ... Show more content

When a government system is decentralized, then it may lack a strong military and infrastructure.
After the fall of Charlemagne s empire, his society required a lot of strong lords with powerful armies
to protect the people because there was no strong centralized government. This led to feudalism
because the people were in need of protection and had no strong centralized government to make a
strong army. The feudal society consisted of a decentralized government and had a strong army.
Another factor that led to the development of feudal societies, were the attacks from the Vikings and
other barbarians. Because The Vikings were so fierce and quick when they attacked, it made them
almost indefensible and very difficult to fight. When Charlemagne s empire fell, it suffered many
attacks from The Vikings that gradually weakened their government. Feudalism allowed for protection
of everyone and people did not need to rely on a strong, centralized

First Person Narrative Essay
The first person narrative is a story told from the first person perspective. The narrator is speaking
directly about him or herself. The first person narrator can be either subjective or objective. The third
objective narrative is a story told by a nonparticipating character. The narrator is usually detached
from the story. Sometimes, the narrator completely penetrates the mind of a character. Third person
narration is often used in documentaries. The omniscient narrators are often not part of the story but
are all knowing observers. These narrators tell the reader all the facts we need to know to fully
understand the story. Since the woman thinks that she is seeing a ghost, I would use the first person
narration. This way the camera can capture all the action through her eyes and emphasizes her fear. ...

The story might be told by a group of people or just one person. For instance, the story can be created
by the producers, the directors, and the writers working together. However, in a film with voice over
narrative, the off screen narrator is usually also a character in the story but not always. The narration
in realist movies is almost invisible. The story unfolds by itself in a chronological order. The narration
in classical movies is more obvious. There is a discreet storyteller who help direct the story and keep
everything on track. In formalist movies, the narrator is manipulative. The narrator often destroys the
chronological order of the story and restructures events to emphasize a point. The narration in The
Usual Suspects is conspicuous. Verbal Kint is the narrator as well as one of the main characters in the
film. He is manipulative because the story is told from Verbal s point of

On the Decks of the Titanic, A Night to Remember, Written...
Written by Walter Lord in November 1955 in the United States, A Night to Remember takes place on
the Titanics many decks while sailing along the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean looked like glass, it was
calm cruising along the Atlantic. On April 14, 1912, with 1316 passengers and 891 crew members, the
Titanic left on it s Maiden Voyage for New York City. Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee were on duty
in the crow s nest and being the lookouts they did see an iceberg, but seeing that the ship was
unsinkable they felt that there was no need to sound an alarm. Some passengers aboard were still wide
awake; playing cards or enjoying the gorgeous scenery. While many others were already sound asleep.
Around 11:40 that night some people heard a grinding noise coming from the inside of the ship. Then
word got around that they had hit an iceberg! But not very many seemed worried and soon, everyone
carried on. Soon they realized that the collision was a lot worse than had been anticipated, Captain
Smith and some crew members went to check the damage, as they did the crew came to find out that
the iceberg had caused a gash in the side of boiler room! This forced the boat to be evacuated. But the
Titanic only had enough row boats for a fraction of the passengers. People went back into their rooms
and took things that were most valuable to them. At 12:15 A.M. the first wireless call for help was
made. The crew would have to act fast otherwise, the Titanic would soon be under the Atlantic,

Think By John Piper Summary
John Piper has dedicated many years of his life to writing books, preaching sermons, and running
various ministries. His education includes a degree in Literature and Philosophy, a Master of Divinity,
and a doctorate in New Testament Studies. He has written over 50 books and a vast amount of articles
and other forms of literature pertaining to Christianity and the human response to religion. In one of
his books, Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God, Piper explains how the use of conscious
thought and understanding is essential to being able to better glorify and worship God. In the
introduction, Piper clearly states his main goal for Think and his hopes for his readers after finishing
each chapter. He claims that he will not support his various arguments using only his opinions and
experiences, as other authors of similar books have done, but will show his readers what is written in
the Bible about those topics (16). Piper then gives an outline of his book, explaining what each chapter
contains (18 21). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shares how, through thinking and learning, he grew in his relationship with God and his
enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge (26). He explains how there is a tension between the religious
and academic communities because they believe they cannot coexist. He states that this same belief
has infiltrated our minds as well sometimes through faulty biblical interpretation (28 29). He argues
that one cannot have knowledge without thinking, but also cannot have thinking without knowledge.
Piper explains that biblical interpretation is not solely the job of the reader. To fully grasp the message
of the Bible, the reader has to have God s help and guidance

Essay On Bowling For Columbine Shooting
Although many people think that Americans are gun nuts, in reality they re just all nuts. This
realization was shown in the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. Throughout the
film Michael Moore shows us many examples of why America has problems with guns. However
after watching one realizes that the problem isn t with guns but within the American people instead.
When the film first begins we see Michael Moore going to a bank a getting a rifle from a bank just for
opening a bank account. Shortly after that there is a montage of people selling guns and the violence
that comes from it. This shows just how easy it is getting a gun is in America which was an effective
way in proving how America is just nuts. Not only is it an irresponsible ... Show more content on

For example the film mentions that Canada has seven million guns in ten million homes with about
one hundred sixty five gun related deaths per year while America has an astounding eleven thousand
one hundred twenty seven gun related deaths per year. This clearly shows that the problem isn t guns
but the American people. It s not the gun that moves by itself and goes out attacking people but the
people. Another within the documentary says that Marilyn Manson and violent computer
games/movies is to blame for the Columbine shootings. Germany has a considerably larger amount of
goth population when compared to the US but their gun violence is twenty nine times less than the US
. Japan also watches very violent movies and plays a lot of violent video games, however their gun
related deaths are two hundred and eighty five times less than ours. The last and probably most
important case the president of the NRA. Not only did he have the audacity to have a gun riot just
days after a gun related incident he refused to apologize for it and walked away. This truly shows how
America really are just full of nuts. However even though the film showed us the despair that is
America s gun problems it also showed us a shred of hope. When Michael Moore went to KMart with
Mark Taylor and Richard Castaldo two Columbine victims, they bought bullets to the KMart
headquarters and made sure their stories were heard. After attempting

Symbolism In Rabbit Proof Fence
The 2002 controversial movie, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, aims to enlighten the
audience about the suffering of Indigenous Australians during The Great Depression. Similar to this,
the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a
first person point of view to explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with
vastly different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and
symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous
people and White Australians.
Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste
Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find
her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of
attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines
wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to
have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. They are
able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that stealing the Aborigine children from
their mothers was not right. Molly is characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl
who does everything she can to make it back

Black English Essay
Stories have existed since the beginning of mankind. Going back as far as ancient Greece in history, or
even further back, one can examine the many different types of stories that have been passed down.
The Ancient Greeks wrote about gods and developed drama; the Romans passed down biographies of
Caesars containing their life achievements as well as their failures; numerous stories questioning the
institution of slavery were produced here in American. Usually by reading the work of an author one
is able to find a message or a moral hidden beneath the storyline. In most cases, authors dictate their
writings in their culture s dialect for many different reasons, many reasons of which that would not
conclude them as being racist for using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this being stated throughout the studies of Black English, one cannot attain that Black English is
flat out racist either.
The use of dialect sets a distinguishing setting throughout a story. Without dialect the reader may be
lost or confused about where the story may be taking place and what initially is going on at the time of
the story. This is an advantage for dialect that helps the reader understand on a non racist level,
especially if the reader is not from the same culture as the writer or story teller. In her story, When
Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin Runned a Race, Emma Backus, says, So he say, Brer Coon did, how Brer
Deer and Brer Terrapin shall run a seven mile race, and the one what get there first shall surely have
the gal , cause he feel that sure in he mind, Brer Coon do, that Brer Deer nat rally bound to outrun old
Brer Terrapin (Lauter, Alberti, and Brady 37). This clearly sets a setting for the story and makes the
reader clearly understand that this story is from long ago and is not in present time. The dialect used
only portrays how the story was told and in no way should it have a racist affect on the reader. When
an author uses dialect, he or she creates an entire world, which directly reflects their very own
experience. Without it, the story becomes less interesting and more boring to a reader. Dialect
generates a more personal outlook on what the author is really trying to state throughout

The Problem Of Teacher Attrition
In conclusion, teacher attrition is a growing issue that is plaguing education. A proactive approach
needs to be taken to combat this growing issue instead of a reactive approach. Teachers are leaving the
profession by the thousands weekly. Students, school districts, and communities are all feeling the
effects of the lack of an adequate educational system, especially in high poverty, low performing
school districts. These are the districts that need quality teachers the most but are at the biggest
disadvantage because of difficulties attracting quality teachers to the areas. In order to close the
achievement gap, states are requiring teachers to be highly qualified. Highly qualified means teachers
have graduated from a four year institute and completed a teacher certification program. States and
school districts are required to notify parents if their child s teacher is not highly qualified. States and
school districts feel that highly qualified teachers translates to increased student achievement. The
public and the states has two varying views on what it means to be a highly qualified teacher. The
state says that a highly qualified teacher has completed a four year institute and teacher certification
program. The public feels that a highly qualified teacher is one that possess classroom management
skills, knowledgeable of the subject matter they teach, understand how student learn, and monitor and
assess student progress. Student achievement is the main

More Than A Busker Analysis
Writer: Jessica Morris
Category: Blog
Title: More Than a Busker: David Knight
Body:
It is not uncommon to come across buskers in the Melbourne CBD. The city is rich in music makers
and music lovers, and you will find up and coming artists, bagpiping locals, and people in bunny
costumes playing electric guitar performing at all hours.
Because of this, when I was walking through Melbourne Central the other day with a group of friends,
I was fairly nonchalant to the young musician sitting near the food court. He had a single mic set up
with a couple of speakers, an acoustic guitar in hand and one lying behind him. My friends and I
stopped to listen. And not just listen, like you do politely for buskers who catch your eye and make

I saw the man nod politely at the scattered applause of onlookers, before seating himself on one of his
own speakers and commanding the food court, which had now become his stage. And I observed him
become lost in another world full of melodies and beats we could not hear.
I am normally struck by the meaning of a song, the lyrics and how they are delivered. Yet when I met
David Knight, a soloist who focuses entirely on his skills playing acoustic guitar, I was able to learn
why musicians are so drawn to the instrumental aspect of their work.
It was in the hopeful progression of chords, ushering me back to my childhood in Welcome Home,
and the intricate way his fingers danced across the frets in With the Wind. As he covered some of his
favourite tunes, he placed his own spin on them, having us believe he could have written them through
the minute rise and fall of every chord.
I normally pass by buskers, but the music of David Knight drew me in like a story begging you to
reach the last page. It s hard for musician s to make it in this industry, and it is easy to pass by the ones
still doing the hard yards, where the local coffee shop is their arena. David Knight made me pause and
see this for what it truly could be: stunning, moving and well crafted

The Three Major Characteristics Of An Educated Person
Characteristics of an Educated Person
Introduction
A person is made up of a variety of different characteristics, ranging widely from positive to negative.
When thinking of an educated person the mind may first consider, as I did, a book smart, motivated
person who holds degrees or titles. Upon further thought, that image was quickly eliminated. An
educated person is much more than books, titles and degrees. Some may not have a college degree or
have attended school at all. There are various qualities that truly educated people possess. Many
people enjoy the exploration of knowledge and a fulfillment. Emmons (2003) suggests A meaningful
life is one that is characterized by a deep sense of purpose, a sense of inner conviction, and assurance
that in spite of one s current plight, life has significance (p. 138). Lifelong learning, open mindedness
and a sense of curiosity are three major characteristics of an educated person.
Lifelong Learners
Learning is not memorizing information, learning is not following rubrics, and among many other
things that learning is not, it is not something that can be done for you. According to Haydar and Kadi
(2012), lifelong learners recognize that learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but
takes place throughout life and in a variety of situations (pg. 4093). Lifelong learners are enthusiastic
about learning and this passion for learning reflects the value of interest in and inquiry about the world
in general and

like to go with the safe choice ,for they re apprehensive of their dreams not coming true. However,
dreaming big is a better than being realistic. Furthermore, dreaming big helps change your perspective
on various of things; it takes you places when you fight for what you want ,or often dream of having.
For example, band member of girl group Fifth Harmony , Dinah Jane, often dreamt of making it to the
music industry. Furthermore, she often sang on coffee shops, talent shows, and plenty of more places
just to expose herself ,and show everyone her talents; in hope of someone recognizing her. However,

discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin, is considered one of the
crowning legislative achievements of the civil rights movement. First it was proposed by President
John F. Kennedy, it survived strong opposition from southern members of Congress and was then
signed into law by Kennedy s successor, Lyndon B. Johnson. In the following years, Congress
expanded the act and also passed additional legislation aimed at bringing equality to African
Americans, such as the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Martin Luther king jr is was Baptist minister and
social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid 1950s until his
death by assassination in 1968. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King, a Baptist
minister and civil rights activist, had a seismic on race relations in the United States beginning in the

Jim Hawkins Quotes In Treasure Island
Jim Hawkins is the main character in Treasure Island. Jim playes many roles including a spy, a cabin

stockade, Dr. Livesey told him to run for the woods and escape, but he wouldn t do it because it wasn t
a honest thing to do. In the beggining of the book, Jim was just a shy boy who helped with the family
inn. Once his father dies, and him and his mother have to escape from pirates, he starts to gain his
bravery and courage. The story continues and he is faced with many challenges. As he works through
thease challenges, he becomes stronger, braver, and more confident. He becomes a great ali, and hero
to Captain Smollett and his men. Long John Silver is a strange character because at first he seems
good, and freindly, when actually he is planning a secret mutiny. Then once his plan is reaveled, he
actes cruel, and unforgiving. When in the end, he turns out to be loyal to captain Smollett. This makes
Silver interesting and unexpected. Silver is a natral leader. He is bold, outgoing, and always shares his
opinion. Even though he is tough and cruel on the outside, I think he does have a heart. He shows this
by caring for Jim, and wanting the best for him even if he doesn t like showing it. ... Show more

Examples Of Literary Devices In The Black Cat
Literary Devices Essay
Have you ever wanted to pick apart a piece of writing the way one might pick off the toppings of a
pizza? I see literary devices as the toppings and the dough is the good writing. Literary devices refer to
the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her message in a simple manner
to his or her readers. When employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate,
interpret and analyze a literary work. , and by developing a strong understanding of what they are and
how they function, one can increase their enjoyment of the writing.
Connotation refers to a meaning that is implied by a word apart from the thing which it describes
explicitly. One work I have seen it in is The Black Cat . In this work, connotation has been used
negative common seen as bad luck in many cultures. Throughout The Black Cat connotation appears
quite a few times, one that I found interesting was when he had found a new cat, the cat had white fur
around its neck, Poe states that the fur starts to turn into the form of the gallows which is what Poe had
used to hang the old cat. The cat is a sign of connotation as bad luck.
Imagery is the use of figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it
appeals to our physical senses. In The Black Cat , Poe uses words and phrases to create mental images
for the reader, imagery helps the reader to visualize and see it more realistically. For example,

Fosfomycin Resistance Against Salmonella Species
A group of researchers from Canada have discovered that there is a gene that confines an antibody
from Salmonella. They discovered that this gene is found in broiler chickens. Broiler chickens aren t
used as much for egg production. These chickens are known for being raised on farms and then
butchered for meat. The researchers took their information and published a journal where the
information and research can be found. The gene itself is named fosA7; it got its name because it
carries a high level of resistance to fosfomycin. A common use to fosfomycin is an antibiotic and is
commonly used to help women cure their urinary tract infections. The 7 is fosA7 represents that it is
the seventh of the fosA genes that have been discovered. As of now fosfomycin resistance is limited
against Salmonella species. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diarra, is a research scientist in Food Safety at Agriculture and Agri Food Canada. Diarra said, The
powerful resistance the fosA7 gene confers is worrisome. It could spread among different Salmonella
species, as well as other bacterial pathogen species, via horizontal gene transfer, due to increased use
of fosfomycin in both clinical and veterinary settings. Thus, vigilant monitoring for the spread of
fosfomycin resistance in bacteria, isolated from humans and animals, is needed. Because of what
Diarra said, many researchers wanted to test to see the strength of the resistance. For the researchers to
test the strength of this gene they had to clone it and place it into the chromosome that was non
antibiotic resistant. The chromosome that they were placing the chromosomes into was Salmonella
Enterica. After reviewing their results, they found that their hypothesis was correct. The gene fosA7 is
responsible for the resistance of fosfomycin. The gene binds to fosfomycin and this is what causes it
to become

Postmodern Pluralism
Postmodern Pluralism and its Effect on Truth and Reconciliation Art: Going Home Star
In 2008, the government created a Truth and Reconciliation Commission, hereafter referred to as
TRC, committed to the tasks of discovering the truth about Canada s Indian Residential Schools,
revealing this truth to all Canadians, and attempting to reconcile the relationship between Indigenous
and non Indigenous Canadians. One of the ways the TRC suggested to facilitate this reconciliation
process is through the creative arts. Indeed, in the last few years, Canada has seen a host of artistic
projects launched which seek to heal and reconcile this relationship, these projects will hereafter be
referred to as reconciliation art . One of the most prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present
both classical and vernacular traditions, within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just
music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti elitist, as it does not
distinguish between high and low culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at its
core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few,
postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many
different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first
twenty minutes, we hear influences from big band music, dubstep, hip hop, Swan Lake and anything
in between. Swan Lake is an example of classical music while big band, dubstep, and hip hop are all
forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti elitism was very important to Hatzis when composing
Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect with the music, even
if they aren t trained in classical music. His main consideration was to not alienate our native
population. Reconciliation art must fight against elitism in order to not alienate any audience
members. Anti elitism, through pluralism of genre, is another element of

The World Trade Center Bombing Essay
Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired
him as a security consultant in order to assess the building s security. Although no arrests had yet been
made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover in several
mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the character
of an anti American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He concluded that
the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New Jersey. Followers of
Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were subsequently convicted
of the bombing.
Rescorla gained much more credibility and authority after the bombing, which resulted in a change to
the culture of Morgan Stanley, which he believed should have moved out of the building because he
felt that the World Trade Center was still a very real target for terrorists. He recommended to his
superiors at Morgan Stanley that the company should leave their Manhattan office space, mentioning
that labor costs were lower in New Jersey and that the firm s employees and equipment would be safer
in a different building. However, this recommendation was not followed as the company s lease at the
World Trade Center was not up until 2006. Due to Rescorla s urging and persistence, all employees,
including senior executives, began practicing emergency evacuations every three

Identity And Truth In Shutter Island And Bart Layton s The...
Martin Scorsese in his 2010 film Shutter Island and Bart Layton in his 2012 documentary The
Imposter incorporate conventions of the genre, film and documentary techniques, stylistic features
such as narrative perspective, characterisation and camera angles to explore how people s perception
of identity and the truth can be manipulated. Both texts entail a similar chronological narrative
structure although in different forms, for example, Shutter Island uses dreams and flashbacks,
comparatively, The Imposter uses reenactments to show the viewers events that have already
happened. Shutter Island shares the story of a man shrewdly manipulated to protect him from the
truth, while The Imposter investigates the way truth can be manipulated and ... Show more content on

Layton has targeted a wider audience as mature viewers would be more interested in documentary and
factual events, although Layton was aiming to intend his documentary at a younger target audience
which was intentionally High School students ranging from years 10 12. Whereas, in Shutter Island
older viewers ranging from 50 to 60 may not enjoy the storyline and theme of the film. The gender of
the audience viewing The Imposter and Shutter Island can be either male and female as these texts are
for both genders as these texts are for any individual who enjoys mystery, wanting to problem solve
and guess what will happen next. Thinkers will enjoy Shutter Island and The Imposter as these texts
involve the audience to think about the concepts overall, also people who enjoy harrowing and
complex films will find these texts exhilarating as they will be on edge of their seats wondering what
would happen next.
Narrative perspective Technique one
Scorsese and Layton both use narrative perspective and narrative structure to reveal their central ideas
in a way that would leave the audience with many unanswered questions. While both texts follow a
chronological structure, building the audience s belief that what they are seeing is the truth, the
directors use flashbacks or reenactments, to gradually reveal parts of the plot or back story. However,
while Scorsese uses dreams and flashbacks to reveal images and experiences in Teddy s past, which

Erik Erikson s Theory Of The Psychosocial Development
Ashley is six year old and she is in first grade. Base on Erikson s theory, she is in stage 4 : Industry vs.
Inferiority. Industry versus inferiority is the fourth stage of Erik Erikson s theory of the psychosocial
development. The stage occurs during childhood between the ages of six and eleven. Children at this
stage, are learning to read and write, to do sums, to do things on their own. Teachers and coaches
begin to take an important role in the child s life as they teach the child specific skills. Ashley told
Billy that she loves her first grade class. She explained to Billy that she learned to count by 5 and 10.
Also she is able to read books to herself. She cannot wait to read the princess book series that Billy
bought for her. School and social interaction play an important role during this time of a child s life.
Through social interactions, children begin to develop a sense of pride in their accomplishments and
abilities. During the earlier stages, a child s interactions centered primarily on caregivers, family
members and others in their immediate household. As the school years begin, the realm of social
influence increases dramatically. Friends and classmates play a role in how children progress through
the industry versus inferiority stage. Billy need to know that, at this stage, the child s peer group will
gain greater significance and will become a major source of the child s self esteem. The child now
feels the need to win approval by demonstrating

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Genre of The Amazing Spider Man 2 is action, adventure, and fantasy. The film was set in New York
City during 2010s. A brief storyline of The Amazing Spider Man 2 is that, the main protagonist Peter
Parker discovers that his most critical battle is ready to begin. It is wonderful to be Spider Man, but for
Peter Parker especially, there is no feeling like swinging between towers, embracing being the hero,
and spending time with Gwen Stacey who is a girlfriend and a helper of Peter. However, being Spider
Man has disadvantages: only Spider Man could protect the New York citizens from the terrible
enemies that threaten the New York City. With the appearance of Electro named Max Dillon, who is a
main antagonist against Peter, Peter should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The director maximized the audiences feelings by using a slow motion skill while she was falling
down to the floor and looking up the Spider man, with her miserable eyes. At a moment of his web
caught her body, her body dropped down on the ground and died. Finally, the Spider man defeated the
enemies and then coming down to the ground to check whether she was alive or not. At this moment, I
thought that the director and editor intentionally deleted all background music to make audiences only
hear his narrative telling to her. I only could hear him sobbing loudly and he was upset and expressing
his deep grief due to the tragic circumstance. Personally, I did not cry with her death, but I realized
something about hero s tragedy that the hero could not keep his love forever. Through her death, she
might be a symbol to the Spider man that just because he saved people, it did not mean that he is a
savior of all people, including Gwen. In that perspective, Peter Parker is the protagonist and
eventually Gwen s death was about how it affected our hero, but inside of that, they were able to
produce the characters with real activity. Peter returned to home depressed and empty. He threw away
his Spider man uniform and mask for a long time. He talked with his aunt about how to move on from
death and he visited Gwen s grave almost obsessively when every season passes. I found the part
where she falls was countless and it had a higher quality than the rest of the movie

  • 2. Investment Proposal Essay example The Investment Proposal In early January of 2013, Manuel Pena, a venture capitalist, was attending a presentation conducted by two brothers Dr. Adya Bharat and Dr. Sidhu Bharat in New York City. Mannuel had been invited to the meeting by Sydney Smithers, a friend of his who knew he d been actively looking for small businesses in which to invest. Sydney, a fellow Canadian, owned two businesses: one was a nursing home and the other, Durable Medical Equipment (DME), sold medical supplies for elderly people, including such items as walkers, canes, and special toilet seats. Sydney and the Bharat brothers were hoping Manuel would agree to invest $100,000 in their business proposition. Sydney had gotten to know Adya while they were ... The Proposal This is a great time to expand in India, Sidhu said. There s no such service there, since 75% of health care is private pay. And Pune is the best city to do it in. Plus, by being first with our service, we ll be better able to establish our reputation. Any competition that may come alone afterward will simply help sell our service to customers, Sidhu added. Pune is known as the Oxford of the East because of its educational institutions, Adya put in. But it also has well established manufacturing industries. We grew up there, but since then it s changed completely. It s grown tremendously as more people have moved to the city to work with companies that have set up operations in information technology and automotive manufacturing. Pune s population is now 9.6 million, and it has the highest per capita income of any city in India 50% higher than India s average income. The need for our service stems from the increasing mobility of Indian society, Adya continued. Young people used to live with their parents and support them. Now they re moving to Pune and other cities for high paying jobs that have them working 12 hours a day. Since they re no longer living with their parents, the parents have had to become ... • 3. Alexander Solzhenitsyn s One Day Of The Life Of Ivan... Alexander Solzhenitsyn s classic novel, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a short novel about a prisoner trying to survive a Soviet labor camp, known as the Gulag. Solzhenitsyn s writing style and subject matter is similar to the pre Revolutionary writers than the writers of his time. Socialist realism was the style of literature that was widely spread throughout Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union. Therefore, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich consists mainly of socialist realist literature intended to function as Communist propaganda, through optimistic and positive portrayals of workers satisfaction on collective farms and in government factories. Thesis. The theme of work is prevalent throughout the novella and throughout the history of the Soviet Union. Soviet literature was increasing in popularity beginning in 1921. (DoaP). In the Soviet Union, literature was to respond to social demand. The proletarians in literature had two goals: to root out class alien culture, and to create new art forms in its place. The Cultural Revolution changed the face of mass culture by means of industrialization and collectivization. Centralized institutions took over local cultural production. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee issued a decree On Restructuring Literary Artistic Organizations , this created the new Writers Union. (PW) Like many works of literature, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich may be seen as a social commentary on the Soviet Union. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Does Boo Radley Show Courage It smelled bad, but everyone smelled the popcorn all over the place as people were jumping up and down with it because of the close game. It was really cold during the game. Everyone was screaming and it would sound like someone screaming right into your ear. People could feel the sharp cold air go down their throats as they breathed and everybody could see every player on the ice and bench. I had to step up and take the puck all the way up through all five of the opposing skaters on the ice. I had to do a lot of moves to get around them, but I shot the puck off the board to myself the most. After that I had to get my shot on the net, so I made sure I was going to get the puck on the goal. I shot the puck on the opposing goalie and bounced right off of him. Helping others shows courage by know what you help other people and that many people to try and help all of these people. One example is from the book when Boo Radley had come out of his house and saved Jem and Scout when they had been attacked by Bob Ewell and then Boo Radley killed Bob Ewell with the knife he was going to use to kill the kids. This is courage because Boo never comes out of his house and he knows that the kids have been chatting with him for a while and he was a friend to them so he stepped up and he helped them. Another example is that lawyers are willing to stand up to help their defendants in the courtroom. I know this because lawyers want t make sure that the innocent people don t end up in jail because they want a fair and even casein the courtroom. The evidence connects to the contention because it shows how people stand up for other people s beliefs even if they might not believe in that. Also the contention connects to the thesis because it is hard to help all of these people all the time but you need to be willing to show that you do have courage by going and helping ... • 7. Making Preservation Possible For City Skylines Devon O Geary Mrs. Hinner LNG 341 11 November 2015 Making Preservation Possible City skylines can be easily recognized for their unique architectural features, such as sharply pointed steeples, dramatic heights, and distinctively shaped buildings. In the United States, the skylines of New York, Chicago, and Seattle show familiar features, such as the Empire State Building, the Sears Tower, and the Space Needle respectively. Buildings in Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia are also acclaimed for their quaint style and Southern Charm. Many of these notable architectural works of art, referred to generally as historic buildings or historic structures, would cease to exist without the hard work of preservation societies. These societies, as well as the notable architecture they preserve, provide educational lessons outside of the traditional classroom for today s youth. For these reasons, the nation s historic buildings need to be preserved and restored to their original glory. More state and city governments should follow the federal government s lead and provide tax incentives to encourage builders to remodel, and thus preserve historic buildings, preventing the demolition of iconic landmarks. A historic building is any place with historical context. The word historic is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary as famous or important in history; having great and lasting importance; or happening or existing in the past, (Merriam Webster). • 8. The Epidemic Of South Africa At the height of the most recent Ebola epidemic in West Africa, fear amongst American citizens about the possibility of a more local outbreak resulted in representatives being pressured into creating harsh policies. One option that representatives of several states endorsed was a mandatory quarantine of all individuals arriving from Ebola stricken countries. This policy was implemented despite severe criticism from several medical professional organizations including Mèdecins Sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders), the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (Park, Quarantines Not Grounded on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fear was indicative of national health agencies and representatives failure to communicate the low risk of transmission. Ebola is only communicable through direct contact with bodily fluids after a person has begun to display symptoms, the first of which is often a fever ( Ethics and Ebola: Public Health Planning and Response , 14 15). However, even at the start of symptom expression, people are unlikely to transmit the disease; virion count is so low during the first couple days after the onset of fever that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for Ebola often returns false negatives during this period (Drazen 1). Thomas Eric Duncan, the first case of Ebola diagnosed on US soil, is a prime example of the virus s low transmission rate at the onset of symptoms. His family, whom he lived in close quarters with for several days while symptomatic, never contracted the disease, whereas the nurses caring for him towards the end of his life when his virion count was high, did. Moreover, the level of the health infrastructure and equipment that is available in the United States is drastically better staffed, trained, and equipped than in West Africa. When a patient begins exhibiting symptoms here, they can be quickly isolated, which was not possible in Liberia. The lack of any public health authorities to monitor cases of the ... • 9. The Industrial Revolution Of The Iron Mill By Rebecca... The industrial revolution was a time of invention, progress and opportunity. However, there was also a darker side to it all. Rebecca Harding Davis, author of Life in the Iron Mills, tells the story of ironworker Hugh Wolfe from a first person narrator s point of view. This unnamed narrator of an unspecified gender is part of the more privileged class of society. This person resides in the house that the two protagonists of the story, Hugh and Debora Wolfe, used to live in. The higher ups of this time had one mindset: there were two worlds society consisted of. Those that had money and were considered civilized , and the rest of the population, working tirelessly, hardly considered humans. These upper class characters proposed this idea with a rational, persuasive manner. Davis purpose was to show the reader how wrong this view was and expose the evils within the industrial society while also promising a better future. I agree with her purpose, as today s society sees the industrial revolution as a very important piece to today s modern world. This is true, and the industrial revolution had a huge impact on how our world operates and functions today, but the darker side of this time period, working conditions, and morality are generally never discussed. The story starts off with the narrator observing the people below from a window, bustling around a middle class mill town. • 10. Feudal Society In Medieval Europe A feudal society is one in which the lords carry a significant measure of power by owning land. Workers known as Serfs are included on the land. Serfs owe the lord a certain amount of labor as well as give the lord a portion of their goods. The lords then gives protection to the serfs from their knights. To get knights, the lord offers a fief(land) to the knight in exchange for military service. A feudal society had the characteristic of being decentralized. It also had major roles and responsibilities that everyone needed to follow in order to keep the society intact. During the early Middle Ages, decentralized governments, attacks from the Vikings and other barbarians, and the strong power of the Church strongly abetted the formation of the feudal society in Medieval Europe. ... After the fall of Charlemagne s empire, his society required a lot of strong lords with powerful armies to protect the people because there was no strong centralized government. The feudal society consisted of a decentralized government and had a strong army. Another factor that led to the development of feudal societies, were the attacks from the Vikings and other barbarians. Because The Vikings were so fierce and quick when they attacked, it made them almost indefensible and very difficult to fight. • 11. First Person Narrative Essay The first person narrative is a story told from the first person perspective. The narrator is speaking directly about him or herself. The first person narrator can be either subjective or objective. The third objective narrative is a story told by a nonparticipating character. The narrator is usually detached from the story. Sometimes, the narrator completely penetrates the mind of a character. Third person narration is often used in documentaries. The omniscient narrators are often not part of the story but are all knowing observers. These narrators tell the reader all the facts we need to know to fully understand the story. The story unfolds by itself in a chronological order. The narration in classical movies is more obvious. There is a discreet storyteller who help direct the story and keep everything on track. • 12. On the Decks of the Titanic, A Night to Remember, Written... Written by Walter Lord in November 1955 in the United States, A Night to Remember takes place on the Titanics many decks while sailing along the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean looked like glass, it was calm cruising along the Atlantic. On April 14, 1912, with 1316 passengers and 891 crew members, the Titanic left on it s Maiden Voyage for New York City. Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee were on duty in the crow s nest and being the lookouts they did see an iceberg, but seeing that the ship was unsinkable they felt that there was no need to sound an alarm. Some passengers aboard were still wide awake; playing cards or enjoying the gorgeous scenery. While many others were already sound asleep. Around 11:40 that night some people heard a grinding noise coming from the inside of the ship. Then word got around that they had hit an iceberg! But not very many seemed worried and soon, everyone carried on. Soon they realized that the collision was a lot worse than had been anticipated, Captain Smith and some crew members went to check the damage, as they did the crew came to find out that the iceberg had caused a gash in the side of boiler room! This forced the boat to be evacuated. But the Titanic only had enough row boats for a fraction of the passengers. People went back into their rooms and took things that were most valuable to them. At 12:15 A.M. the first wireless call for help was made. The crew would have to act fast otherwise, the Titanic would soon be under the Atlantic, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His education includes a degree in Literature and Philosophy, a Master of Divinity, and a doctorate in New Testament Studies. He has written over 50 books and a vast amount of articles and other forms of literature pertaining to Christianity and the human response to religion. In one of his books, Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God, Piper explains how the use of conscious thought and understanding is essential to being able to better glorify and worship God. In the introduction, Piper clearly states his main goal for Think and his hopes for his readers after finishing each chapter. He claims that he will not support his various arguments using only his opinions and experiences, as other authors of similar books have done, but will show his readers what is written in the Bible about those topics (16). This realization was shown in the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore. Throughout the film Michael Moore shows us many examples of why America has problems with guns. However after watching one realizes that the problem isn t with guns but within the American people instead. When the film first begins we see Michael Moore going to a bank a getting a rifle from a bank just for opening a bank account. Shortly after that there is a montage of people selling guns and the violence that comes from it. For example the film mentions that Canada has seven million guns in ten million homes with about one hundred sixty five gun related deaths per year while America has an astounding eleven thousand one hundred twenty seven gun related deaths per year. This clearly shows that the problem isn t guns but the American people. It s not the gun that moves by itself and goes out attacking people but the people. Another within the documentary says that Marilyn Manson and violent computer games/movies is to blame for the Columbine shootings. Germany has a considerably larger amount of goth population when compared to the US but their gun violence is twenty nine times less than the US . Japan also watches very violent movies and plays a lot of violent video games, however their gun related deaths are two hundred and eighty five times less than ours. The last and probably most important case the president of the NRA. • 15. Symbolism In Rabbit Proof Fence The 2002 controversial movie, Rabbit Proof Fence, directed by Phillip Noyce, aims to enlighten the audience about the suffering of Indigenous Australians during The Great Depression. Similar to this, the 1986 Play No Sugar has the same purpose. Set in Northam, Western Australia, both texts utilise a first person point of view to explore the hardships of surviving during the Great Depression, but with vastly different characters. Using different types of characterisation, lighting, flashbacks, dialogue and symbolism to tell their story, both texts give the audience slightly different views on the Indigenous people and White Australians. Rabbit Proof Fence is narrated from the point of view of 14 year old Molly Craig, a half caste Indigenous girl. Torn from her family, Molly walks 2400km with her cousin and sister in order to find her way back home to her Mother. The purpose of this movie is to highlight the negative effects of attempting to assimilate a race that does not want to be a part of the White society. All the Aborigines wanted was to live their lives the way they always had, without any interference. Noyce s choice to have an innocent child as the narrator, evokes an empathetic response from the audience. They are able to imagine their children in Molly s situation and realise that stealing the Aborigine children from their mothers was not right. Molly is characterised as a strong, stubborn and courageous young girl who does everything she can to make it back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Black English Essay Stories have existed since the beginning of mankind. Going back as far as ancient Greece in history, or even further back, one can examine the many different types of stories that have been passed down. The Ancient Greeks wrote about gods and developed drama; the Romans passed down biographies of Caesars containing their life achievements as well as their failures; numerous stories questioning the institution of slavery were produced here in American. Usually by reading the work of an author one is able to find a message or a moral hidden beneath the storyline. In most cases, authors dictate their writings in their culture s dialect for many different reasons, many reasons of which that would not conclude them as being racist for using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this being stated throughout the studies of Black English, one cannot attain that Black English is flat out racist either. The use of dialect sets a distinguishing setting throughout a story. Without dialect the reader may be lost or confused about where the story may be taking place and what initially is going on at the time of the story. This is an advantage for dialect that helps the reader understand on a non racist level, especially if the reader is not from the same culture as the writer or story teller. In her story, When Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin Runned a Race, Emma Backus, says, So he say, Brer Coon did, how Brer Deer and Brer Terrapin shall run a seven mile race, and the one what get there first shall surely have the gal , cause he feel that sure in he mind, Brer Coon do, that Brer Deer nat rally bound to outrun old Brer Terrapin (Lauter, Alberti, and Brady 37). This clearly sets a setting for the story and makes the reader clearly understand that this story is from long ago and is not in present time. The dialect used only portrays how the story was told and in no way should it have a racist affect on the reader. When an author uses dialect, he or she creates an entire world, which directly reflects their very own experience. Without it, the story becomes less interesting and more boring to a reader. • 17. The Problem Of Teacher Attrition In conclusion, teacher attrition is a growing issue that is plaguing education. A proactive approach needs to be taken to combat this growing issue instead of a reactive approach. Teachers are leaving the profession by the thousands weekly. Students, school districts, and communities are all feeling the effects of the lack of an adequate educational system, especially in high poverty, low performing school districts. These are the districts that need quality teachers the most but are at the biggest disadvantage because of difficulties attracting quality teachers to the areas. In order to close the achievement gap, states are requiring teachers to be highly qualified. Highly qualified means teachers have graduated from a four year institute and completed a teacher certification program. States and school districts are required to notify parents if their child s teacher is not highly qualified. States and school districts feel that highly qualified teachers translates to increased student achievement. The public and the states has two varying views on what it means to be a highly qualified teacher. The state says that a highly qualified teacher has completed a four year institute and teacher certification program. • 18. More Than A Busker Analysis Writer: Jessica Morris Category: Blog Title: More Than a Busker: David Knight Body: It is not uncommon to come across buskers in the Melbourne CBD. The city is rich in music makers and music lovers, and you will find up and coming artists, bagpiping locals, and people in bunny costumes playing electric guitar performing at all hours. Because of this, when I was walking through Melbourne Central the other day with a group of friends, I was fairly nonchalant to the young musician sitting near the food court. He had a single mic set up with a couple of speakers, an acoustic guitar in hand and one lying behind him. My friends and I stopped to listen. I saw the man nod politely at the scattered applause of onlookers, before seating himself on one of his own speakers and commanding the food court, which had now become his stage. And I observed him become lost in another world full of melodies and beats we could not hear. I am normally struck by the meaning of a song, the lyrics and how they are delivered. Yet when I met David Knight, a soloist who focuses entirely on his skills playing acoustic guitar, I was able to learn why musicians are so drawn to the instrumental aspect of their work. It was in the hopeful progression of chords, ushering me back to my childhood in Welcome Home, and the intricate way his fingers danced across the frets in With the Wind. As he covered some of his favourite tunes, he placed his own spin on them, having us believe he could have written them through the minute rise and fall of every chord. I normally pass by buskers, but the music of David Knight drew me in like a story begging you to reach the last page. It s hard for musician s to make it in this industry, and it is easy to pass by the ones still doing the hard yards, where the local coffee shop is their arena. The Three Major Characteristics Of An Educated Person Characteristics of an Educated Person Introduction A person is made up of a variety of different characteristics, ranging widely from positive to negative. When thinking of an educated person the mind may first consider, as I did, a book smart, motivated person who holds degrees or titles. Upon further thought, that image was quickly eliminated. An educated person is much more than books, titles and degrees. Some may not have a college degree or have attended school at all. There are various qualities that truly educated people possess. Many people enjoy the exploration of knowledge and a fulfillment. Emmons (2003) suggests A meaningful life is one that is characterized by a deep sense of purpose, a sense of inner conviction, and assurance that in spite of one s current plight, life has significance (p. 138). Lifelong learning, open mindedness and a sense of curiosity are three major characteristics of an educated person. Lifelong Learners Learning is not memorizing information, learning is not following rubrics, and among many other things that learning is not, it is not something that can be done for you. According to Haydar and Kadi (2012), lifelong learners recognize that learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but takes place throughout life and in a variety of situations (pg. 4093). I see literary devices as the toppings and the dough is the good writing. Literary devices refer to the typical structures used by writers in their works to convey his or her message in a simple manner to his or her readers. When employed properly, the different literary devices help readers to appreciate, interpret and analyze a literary work. , and by developing a strong understanding of what they are and how they function, one can increase their enjoyment of the writing. Connotation refers to a meaning that is implied by a word apart from the thing which it describes explicitly. One work I have seen it in is The Black Cat . In this work, connotation has been used negative common seen as bad luck in many cultures. Throughout The Black Cat connotation appears quite a few times, one that I found interesting was when he had found a new cat, the cat had white fur around its neck, Poe states that the fur starts to turn into the form of the gallows which is what Poe had used to hang the old cat. The cat is a sign of connotation as bad luck. Imagery is the use of figurative language to represent objects, actions, and ideas in such a way that it appeals to our physical senses. In The Black Cat , Poe uses words and phrases to create mental images for the reader, imagery helps the reader to visualize and see it more realistically. For example, ... They discovered that this gene is found in broiler chickens. Broiler chickens aren t used as much for egg production. These chickens are known for being raised on farms and then butchered for meat. The researchers took their information and published a journal where the information and research can be found. The gene itself is named fosA7; it got its name because it carries a high level of resistance to fosfomycin. A common use to fosfomycin is an antibiotic and is commonly used to help women cure their urinary tract infections. It could spread among different Salmonella species, as well as other bacterial pathogen species, via horizontal gene transfer, due to increased use of fosfomycin in both clinical and veterinary settings. Thus, vigilant monitoring for the spread of fosfomycin resistance in bacteria, isolated from humans and animals, is needed. Because of what Diarra said, many researchers wanted to test to see the strength of the resistance. For the researchers to test the strength of this gene they had to clone it and place it into the chromosome that was non antibiotic resistant. The chromosome that they were placing the chromosomes into was Salmonella Enterica. After reviewing their results, they found that their hypothesis was correct. In addition to representing different cultural traditions, postmodernism tends to combine and present both classical and vernacular traditions, within a culture (classical in the colloquial sense, not just music belonging to the classical era). In doing so, it sets itself up as anti elitist, as it does not distinguish between high and low culture in the same way modern music did. Postmodernism is, at its core, a rejection of modernist traits; therefore since modernism was only for an elite few, postmodernism aims to reach out and appeal to a larger audience. Going Home Star explores many different genres of music throughout the piece. Take, for example, the opening sequence. In the first twenty minutes, we hear influences from big band music, dubstep, hip hop, Swan Lake and anything in between. Swan Lake is an example of classical music while big band, dubstep, and hip hop are all forms of vernacular music. This notion of anti elitism was very important to Hatzis when composing Going Home Star, because he wanted any audience member to be able to connect with the music, even if they aren t trained in classical music. The World Trade Center Bombing Essay Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired him as a security consultant in order to assess the building s security. Although no arrests had yet been made, Rescorla believed that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went undercover in several mosques throughout New Jersey, showing up for morning prayers at dawn. He took on the character of an anti American Muslim, in order to interview the other visitors to the mosques. He concluded that the attack was likely planned by a radical imam at a mosque in New York or New Jersey. Followers of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, a radical Muslim cleric based in Brooklyn, were subsequently convicted of the bombing. Rescorla gained much more credibility and authority after the bombing, which resulted in a change to the culture of Morgan Stanley, which he believed should have moved out of the building because he felt that the World Trade Center was still a very real target for terrorists. He recommended to his superiors at Morgan Stanley that the company should leave their Manhattan office space, mentioning that labor costs were lower in New Jersey and that the firm s employees and equipment would be safer in a different building.
