The Balance Scorecard, By Robert S. Kaplan And David P....
As suggested by the biggest proponents of the Balance Scorecard, Robert S. Kaplan and David P.
Norton, What you measure is what you get. Senior executives understand that their organization s
measurement system strongly affects the behavior of managers and employees. Hence, after a year
long research with many companies, they devised the Balance Scorecard (BSC) measure which
revolutionized the traditional thinking about performance measures. By looking beyond the traditional
financial performance measures, the managers were able to better understand the strategy, positioning
and performance of their company. The underlying reason behind getting this comprehensive view of
the business was BSC approach focused on predicting future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

BSC approach have listed the following limitations which the managers need to be aware of when
making the decision to implement BSC within their organization. Lack of validation Lack of effective

emphasis on internal focus Makes organizations less dynamic Time consuming Lack of integration

Analysis of The Hot Tub Mystery
Part I 1. The paramedics found empty wine bottles on the ledge surrounding the hot tub, and the
bodies of Roma and Clint Underhill on the bottom of the hot tub. The water of the hot tub seemed way
too hot and the Underhill s had both been dead for a while when the paramedics arrived. 2. The maid
should be asked the following questions about the situation: Is the water usually this hot? If so, what
temperature? When did you arrive at the home? When did you discover the bodies? Were the

for many years and this could have caused high blood pressure in both of them. 5. Your body

The Philippine Insurrection
The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3
phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below.
The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor
warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to
drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming
together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror
against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio
executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted
Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the
fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a
temporary peace.
Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the
assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in
Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed
reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the
Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.
This was an uneasy peace, because what was

The Theme Of Education In The Film Waiting For Superman
In the American public school system students are failing and society is doing nothing but taking a
blind eye to the injustice. In the film, Waiting For Superman, director, Davis Guggenheim,
investigates the various ways these schools are producing failing students in the United States. By
following the stories of five children throughout the documentary we, the viewers, begin to take notice
of the corrupt public school system as the children experience the inequalities of a low income school
first hand. Guggenheim uses audio and pop up animations to effectively argue his claim and motivate
the audience to change the way public schools are being operated.
The audio in this film plays a huge role in how the audience perceives the information they are
obtaining. Whether it is a lack of sound, or an upbeat song it creates an atmosphere or tone for that
segment of the movie. Throughout the film aside from the statistics and the lives of the children being
shown, Guggenheim incorporates clips from old tv shows, presidential speeches and more. When
these clips are being viewed an energetic and quick song is being played. The information presented in
these clips happens to be statements about how the president s believe they want to be the education
president or the clips express happy faces of children learning and smiling teachers. Guggenheim
presents the fact that up until the 1970 s, American public schools were the best in the world while
children are doing experiments

The Bishop s Candlesticks Essay
Introduction: The one act play The Bishop s Candlesticks is McKinnel s adaptation of the opening
chapter of Victor Hugo s celebrated novel Les Miserable. The play is based on the concept that no
man is a born offender. It is the embodiment of a true Christian. The Bishop has all the virtues which a
bishop ought to have he is selfless, kind, generous and charitable. He has a childlike innocence and
does not understand any dupe . His absolute faith in God has made him fearless. The convict s treats to
kill him fail to unnerve him. He hates sin but loves sinners. The way he restores the convict s faith in
Christianity is remarkable. Even the convict recognizes his goodness towards the end of the play, ...

point of the slope and does no work made such an idiot of the religious administrator by making him

conviction is not the best approach to change a guilty party or a convict. It is philanthropy, confidence,
trust, sensitivity and absolution that are expected to recover the lost soul in a man. In the play the
convict says to the Bishop, I was a man. Presently I m not a man, but rather upto the end, he says you

Femininity And The Anti-Vietnam War
It is not an easy task to pin down where exactly this effeminate, homosexual, deviant and ambisexual
posturing of glam rock comes from and neither it is this paper s sole aim to fulfill such a meticulous
job. Nevertheless, some thoughts on its genesis are worth mentioning. Mike Kelley links these
postures to the anti Vietnam War movement and to the resulting full scale empathic connection in
white youth for otherness in general. The greatest Other, he goes on to say, was women; if America s
problem was that it was militaristic, patriarchal, and male, then the antidote would be the embrace of
the prototypically feminine. Radical culture of this period is dominated by displays of femininity as a
sign of resistance femininity, and male homosexuality

The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay
Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so that
we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30 years,
technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large
amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds
and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system or
application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool
used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for
innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to
map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans,
2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked
together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name.
These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns
(Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on
many subjects.
Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997).
However, the history of GIS is relatively unrecorded, it is a field in which history is little

The Theme Of Slavery In Beloved By Toni Morrison
Sixty Million and More
Sixty million and more, is the inscription at the beginning of the novel Beloved written by Toni
Morrison. It referred to the number of slaves killed from the time of the Middle Passage. In naming
the number so starkly, not saying anything further about it, Morrison pays testament to the horrendous
crime of the slave trade and the genocide it engendered. Through this epigraph, the author reminded
her readers of the frightening history of the slaves. I will call them my people, Which were not my

Margaret Garner s master treated Garner trigged her courage to escape. In this case, death was also an
escape for freedom. Margaret Garner killed her daughter to set her daughter free from the slave
catchers and from slavery. It was too painful for her to send her children back to slavery. For a slave
like Margaret Garner, having children was more a curse than a blessing. Female slaves were treated as
breeders. Children meant the masters would have more labor for their plantations. It was also an
advantage to own female slaves who were fertile. The life of Margaret Garner did not end happily. She
died of long sickness and in slavery. The incident of Margaret Garner killing her daughter contributes
the central story in Beloved .Nevertheless, by writing the story of Margaret Garner, Toni Morrison
reminds the readers that in slavery, terrible events and impossible choices were really occurred.
Beloved presents the case of Margaret Garner and makes readers who have heard about it remember
the event. Other readers who do not know about the case will learn about what happened to Margaret
Garner and the infanticide case surrounding her daughter s death. The story of Margaret Garner was

Anti Depressants And Its Impact On Indigenous People s...
If you are suffering with depression, what would you do in order to heal yourself? The typical
Canadian would suggest going to the doctor and being prescribed anti depressants. Canadians believe
clinical medicine can heal almost anyone and anything with the proper resources and knowledge.
What if we are wrong? What if participation in traditional ceremonies and healing practices is what
can heal anyone or anything? There are many indications that Indigenous ways of healing are efficient
and beneficial. This leads to the history of how the western society stripped them of their rights to
follow these traditions, and how that may have had a great impact on Indigenous people s health

Indigenous people were only ever exposed to their illnesses, and therefore discovered and followed
their traditional healing ways. However, their traditional medicine practices were viewed as inferior to
Europeans, frowned upon, or even banned, which lead Indigenous health to deteriorate. Modernized
western medicine focuses on the illness, symptoms, and cures, compared to Indigenous medicines,
which focus on the balance of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being, and not
specifically curing the illness, but healing from the illness and determining the causes of the illness.
According to Centre for Social Justice, David Skinner, a white man says
it is our belief that because our white man s medicine is very technical oriented, very symptom

The Canada s Aging Population
The Canada s aging population, those 55 years and older, stands at 30.8% of the Canada s total. This
segment of Canada s population is growing due to demographic factors such as births and deaths rates,
health and immigration, and will continue to grow for the next 50 years. Because of advances in
medicine, health and nutrition, Canadians are living longer and are more active. Many of them too,
have more disposable income than earlier generations of aged population. They see themselves as

significant and varied, current, new and changing needs for services, some age specific, in the areas of
sports, exercise, activity and active recreation. To date, there has not been an adequate focus on
addressing the sporting and activity needs of the aged in Canada by federal or provincial governments
nor by professional sports organizations. Why is that? What can be done to change it?
What is aging anyway? The term aging refers to a complex process of biological, physical,
psychological and social changes in a person as he/ she ages over their lifetime. Typically, the term
refers to older adults and takes on the meaning of the process of getting old and being old . It relates

Why Did Tanzania Achieve True Independence Essay
To a large extent, Tanzania did not achieve real independence. Through evaluating the primary pillars
of a country (social, political and economic) and its growth in a twenty year period it is evident that,
despite, a change in governance Tanzania did not achieve real independence as colonial powers
continued to control the country s economy, colonial ideologies permeated through political structures,
socially, the nation s growth and longevity was inhibited as a result of decades of racial oppression
and after independence Tanzania still relied on foreign investment and gifts.

After WW1 Tanzania was given to Britain and they ruled it until independence in 1961.
Colonialism made a profound impact on the economic development in Tanzania. The general motive
behind colonization was the acquisition of raw materials for economic development in Germany.
Tanzania was a supplier of raw materials like minerals and agricultural commodities and a buyer of
processed manufactured goods. These economic structures established by the colonial powers had
lasting implications which affected the independent government s economic performance. Initially,
and similar to the USSR after becoming a communist state, Tanzania introduced a five year economic
plan. However, unlike the Soviet Union, the first five year plan was made to implement a programme
which depended on foreign investment to support massive, capital intensive industrialization and
agricultural development projects. Consequently, this economic policy upheld colonial ideals. Later, in
attempt to reconstruct Tanzania s national identity and off the benefits of capitalism, the Arusha
Declaration was avowed. This was a blueprint that declared the implementation of African socialism
under the name Arusha. After the Arusha declaration, the

Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically...
Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference to
the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression.
Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production within
this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst limited to
reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this framework where
values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille argues, restricts our
liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille sees this as a principle of
powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses
the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do this because he cannot justify it in
utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this interest. The father of the boy is partly
responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and destroy through things he provides for him: a
home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as
there is something fundamental within the character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how
in society, the father is like production, which provides us with the basic components of living but not
what we really need and how this excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. Rules and

Black Spider Monkey Research Paper

A.K.A Black Spider Monkey According to Primate Info Net, there are seven species of spider
monkeys recognized with the Black Spider Monkey included. The Black Spider Monkey is the largest
of them all. These adorable monkeys have long, shiny black hair covering their bodies, except for the
face, which is red or pink. One thing that makes these monkeys stand out against other monkeys is
their long, prehensile (defined as capable of grasping ) tails. With this fifth limb, they have more
stability when resting in trees and grasping branches. For extra ease in swinging through the trees,
they have an extra mobile shoulder joint. These monkeys are large, but with a slender frame, a pot
belly and spidery limbs (which is where their name comes from). Male spider monkeys are typically
52 58 cm in length, with their tail can grow to be as long as 72 85 cm by itself. Females are usually 49

James Truslow Adams And The American Dream
As it is stated in the constitution, all men are created equal , however many people feel as if they are
not treated equal to their fellow citizens. America is viewed as a land where all things are possible and
people can achieve all their hopes and dreams. Although this is a simple concept, how one must work
to achieve these goals is much more complicated. Everyone is born into a different situation and the
opportunities they are exposed to differ depending on the person. The original idea of the American
Dream supported the idea that all American citizens are able to obtain a better life than they are
currently living; however, that idea is continuously changing and many interpret their own dream in
different ways.

Many veterans were able to get a home with a low mortgage due to the GI Bill, a benefit program to
help cover costs of veterans, and the American Dream became closely tied to home ownership. The
ideal dream continued to change and many Americans purchased products and good that they believed
would improve their life.
After the dream moved on from home ownership, it turned into a need for the latest products. Middle
class Americans, however, did not have enough money to purchase the new trend. In 1950, the first
credit card was introduced and as time went on it became more popular than ever. Americans were
thrilled with the idea of owning everything they could imagine without having the money to do so;
however, many people racked up a large amount of debt. In addition to the debt, America faced a
mortgage crisis in the early 2000 s. The American Dream came crashing down for many and their
once happy lives were now full of stress, yet they believed there was hope for a better life.
Despite having the idea of a better life many Americans today feel as if they cannot achieve the
American Dream. When the American Dream was first introduced, the cost of living was much lower
than what it is today and opportunities for success are not the same as they were before. Weekly

Agency Theory Essay
QUESTION 1 (i)
AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING
The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption
that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This
conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is
apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its
shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt
holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from
its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm.
There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its
debt holder
PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS
Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape
the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors
holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent
dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to
Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately,
increases the risk to the debt holders. The firm is being opportunistic because debt holders

As early as the 1950s, scientists have parsed the main stages of sleep. In one such study, eye
movements, recorded by electrooculograms (EOG) correlated with the brain activity in
electroencephalograms(EEGs) as well as respiratory rate, indicating the existence of distinct sleep
states which were not randomly generated (Aserinsky and Klietman, 1953). The discovery of distinct
states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Instead, it consists of three to four distinct states
as well as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, each with their own unique brain activity.
While REM sleep has been in the scientific spotlight since its discovery for its role in consolidation of
emotional memory (Sara, 2017), recently more studies have begun to focus on the role of slow wave
sleep. Slow wave sleep (SWS) encompasses the stage 3 4 subset of non REM sleep and is
characterized by delta waves that consist of slow oscillations of activity. This type of sleep occurs
primarily at the onset of sleep and time spent in SWS declines in humans as aging occurs. SWS seems
to be most important in the consolidation phase, though the mechanisms of this consolidation are still
being explored in the scientific community. However, the method of this memory consolidation is
currently a subject of hot debate. What caused scientists to link memory and sleep, particularly SWS?
Research as early as 1914 began to point to a decrease in memory capacity capabilities

Summary
Supergirls is what happens when two sisters born into dismal and dire circumstances grow up
believing what they see on TV. They ve had no parental guidance. No adults to trust. There was
nothing but television to define their reality, nothing but superhero comics to set their expectations.
They watched Superman and believed it, they watched Leave it to Beaver, I love Lucy, Goonies and
believed it. They read Treasure Island and Supergirl Comics and Stephen King s It, and believed it. As
teens, they watched Pretty Woman, Kill Bill, Austin Powers and believed it.

The Debate Of Banning The Death Penalty
Public Executions The United States has been going through the debate of banning the death penalty
for decades; however, it continues to remain at a standstill as crime rates continue to stay the same
throughout the country. The people for continuing the death penalty happens to see their group split in
to two groups. One for the private executions and the other for public. Public executions can do many
things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of
execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes
with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the
knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to
speak, especially if they have committed such a crime to deserve the sentence. It takes removes this
mindset that the public has come to grasp that everything does not have a consequence for the actions
they take. The scare factor works brilliantly in this regard, holding the public to a line they know not
to cross. With the line drawn, the number of convicts in the prison system would decrease. This will
also free up taxpayers money for other things like education, medical, security, and paying off the
national debt. Secondly, this would bring closer to the families, as well as, friends and acquaintances
of the victim. This type of execution would give everyone the benefit of seeing

Photography In The 19th Century
The initial style photos were made between the 1850s and 1860s, to report design for Parisian style
houses. Reproduction in design diaries happened much later, between 1881 (with the development of
the halftone printing process by Frederic Eugene Ives) and 1886 (when the refinement of the
procedure made it fiscally practicable). This leap forward made it conceivable to imitate photos and
offer to a huge gathering of people through the medium of the printed page. In the late 19th and mid
20th hundreds of years, qualifications between style photography, picture, and theater photography
were regularly obscured. Using proficient models was at first viewed as stunning, and it along these
lines got to be elegant in the early years of the century for society superstars, for example, Gertrude
Vanderbilt Whitney, to show. The outcome was that design photos were strikingly like society
pictures. Using a performing artist, for example, Sarah Bernhardt is similar to the vogue in the mid
2000s for utilizing Gwyneth Paltrow or Madonna or the tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams to

William The Conqueror Case Study
Equity has brought benefits to many litigants who would otherwise have been severely disadvantaged
by the common law. Discuss, with reference to decided cases. William the Conqueror found England
with no single system of law common to the whole country. The law was mainly sets of customary
rules which differed from area to area. For example, in one area you could get away with stealing, in
another it would be seen as crime. There was no such thing as The English Legal System until William
s invasion in 1066. William developed the legal system and introduced many rules. William preserved
some of the old customary laws and used them as a basis for common laws. He introduced the feudal

The second remedy is specific performance in which the court compels a party to fulfill a previous
agreement, as in the case of [Wrath v Tyler]. Rectification which is the amendment of documents
which previously did not express its true intention such as in the case of [Re Posner] in which the
testator was allowed to rectify his will to reflect his true intentions, is another form of remedy. The
fourth remedy is rescission where a contract is nullified, thus allowing two parties to return to their
original positions prior to the agreement as seen in [Tumstem v Bhanderi] On the other hand, equity
also introduced modern remedies which are Mareva Injunction and the Anton Piller order. The former
which is freezing order where the court has the authority to restrain a person from transferring his
assests away from the court s jurisdiction such as to another country is first established in the case of
[Mareva v International Bulkcarries]. The latter is the search order granting access into another s

Manufacturing Processes Ltd], the defendant was suspected of selling away his campany s technical
drawings to the rival company hence court granted the Anton Piller order to search his house. Last but

maxims is He who comes to equity must

In Our Time by Ernest Hemingway
In Our Time, written by Ernest Hemingway, is a collection of short stories that were published in 1925
and defined Hemingway s writing style from there on. As a symbolic image of Hemingway himself,
Nick Adams is faced with troubling relationships that ultimately define who he is. Life experiences
from young to old define show how Nick lives his love before, during, and after World War One.
These experiences strengthen his relationships, maturity, and masculinity. One of the most important
themes, masculinity, is portrayed directly at the start of Hemingway s short story collection starting
with Indian Camp. In the first short story the reader sees the novels protagonist, Nick Adams ,
response to violence and suffering inflicted on others will ultimately define his own sense of
masculinity (Frazier). Witnessing this dramatic event at such a young age will define Nick s life and
change the way he views certain aspects of life just from watching a woman give birth. Nick s
maturity and responsibility are also themes that are greatly exploited just as well as his masculinity.
The reader first learns about Nick and his relationships with his girlfriend Marjorie in the short story
titled The End of Something. The title of this section symbolically relates to what is happening
because Nick and Marjorie get into an argument which seems to end their relationship. Lisa Tyler
states what Hemingway seems to be suggesting in In Our Time is that men s characters are

Education For Leisure By Carice Duffy
In poems, Stealing and Education for leisure , Duffy uses a range of literary devices like colloquial
language and short sentences. Duffy clearly portrays a sinister and lonely persona in both poems. In
Stealing the persona is presented as lonely and isolated from society so they resort to stealing just for
the pleasure of doing it. Similarly, in Education for leisure , an egotistical young adult is portrayed
who is killing living things to undo his intense isolation. These poems were written by Duffy to show
the terrible situation the UK faced in the 1980 s.

While the character was kicking the snowman furiously again, again . His breath ripped out in rags .
He had lost his breath because he was so passionate about his fury that he forgot about his physical
ability. In this quote a metaphor is used and two short sentences are repeated. The short sentences
emphasize his lack of education, showing that he cannot form complex intellectual sentences. The fact
that the word is repeated twice indicates his passion for what he s doing. The metaphor is also an
example of hyperbole as it over exaggerates on how exhausted he is due to his inability to control his
emotions. This suggests that the persona is angry and frustrated at his life. The snowman could
symbolize what he doesn t have; therefore, portraying his rage towards the snowman. The snowman
could also be symbolized as himself, which shows his self destructive behavior as he tries to punish
the part of himself that he sees in the inanimate object. In the other poem, the character does
something similar as he squishes a fly against the window using his thumb . This shows how the
persona releases all his irritation on a vulnerable creature that cannot do anything to escape from the
situation. This suggests that he loves the feeling of over empowerment but it also suggests that he is a
coward as he displays his rage on a susceptible and tiny creature. It also portrays how cruel and
disheartened of a person he is as the fly didn t have anything to do with why he was left out and
isolated all along his life. Despite of this fact, he still went forward with killing the poor fly because of
his failure to control his rage. It is mentioned that he commits this purposeless murder with his thumb
. As the thumb is the biggest finger on our hands, it can symbolize that he is attempting to completely
overwhelm the tiny little creature; this can also be seen as

Army Nurses In World War 2 Essay
In 1943, Congresswoman Frances Payne Bolton said Nurses are grand people, human creatures who
will go through pretty much anything to ease pain , and it accurately describes women of the Army
Nurse Corps in World War II. They were exceptional people who embodied compassion, dedication,
and professionalism to their fellow comrades in the war. Their heart and soul was dedicated to the
wounded military men; when they were wounded, the nurses were wounded. However, even through
the emotional and physical hardships, these women overcame the obstacles and successfully did their

Not For All The Tea
Not for all the tea in China is a popular phrase in the Victorian era. When Britain prevailed tea, the
most of the tea was from China. Thus, if I give all the Chinese tea to you and you do not want it, this
can tell how determined you are. American writer Sarah Rose wrote a book named For All the Tea in
China describes a period of time in the mid 1800s how the British Empire stole tea from China. The
main character Robert Fortune was hired by the East India Company to steal the secrets of tea
horticulture and manufacturing. The Scotsman donned a camouflage and headed into the Wu Si Shan
hills in a bold act of corporate espionage.
In the early 19th Century, Britain s dependence on Chinese tea was caused trade deficit. Britain and
China are conflicting the viewpoint of justice trade in the foreign nationals. Thus, before the war
start,England provided China with opium, grown in India. so then East India Company ship opium to
China; China provided England with the tea. The East India Company though if they know how to
plant the tea, they could produce tea in India instead. The problem was that the best tea all came from
China, and the Chinese tea growers were the only ones who truly knew how to make it good. Thus, to
accomplish this task, Scottish botanist Fortune (Robert Fortune) put on Chinese clothing , hired a
Chinese coolie attendant, went deep into the Chinese interior, to the best green tea and black tea
growing areas of the country, and stole tea plants,

The Beating Heart Of The Seven Gables
The Beating Heart of The House of the Seven Gables Nathaniel Hawthorne extensively weaves
symbolism into the pages of The House of the Seven Gables to bring the house and the items within it
to life. The use of gothic elements within the house directly reflects upon the decaying of the
Pyncheon family. Their once lively home stands as a constant reminder of the family s legacy. The
Pyncheon mansion strongly represents the decaying of the Pyncheon family over time. In the early
1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family.
However, as time goes on, the house starts to become an eerie residence in the same way the
Pyncheon s glory fades. The author describes the darkness of the ... Show more content on

greet him first by saying, Pheobe; for you are young and rosy, and cannot help letting a smile break
out whether or no. He always liked bright faces! And mine is old now, the tears are hardly dry on it
(page 70). In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the
darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Hawthorne
symbolizes this as the burden and secrets that cast a dark shadow over the family. When the tree first
sprouts upon the lawn and grows, beauty radiates from it in the same way the Pyncheons first radiate
their glory. Inside the house remains the memory of Alice Pyncheon found within her coffin like
harpsichord. The harpsichord plays beautiful melodies that still echo through the house. They serve as
a constant reminder of Alice s spirit. However, the instrument representing a coffin reminds those who
wonder about Alice s legacy of her tragic ending. By using a coffin like harpsichord, Hawthorne
employs a dual symbol to an item. Much like how the house causes unease to those who dare glance
in its direction, the painting of Colonel Pyncheon lets off the same threatening vibe. The glare the old
Pyncheon holds in the portrait keeps people who observe the artwork from attempting to remove it

Reliable Utilization of Family Life Cycle Information to...
Problem Statement Market segmentation methods that reliably utilize information about family life
cycle to ascertain consumers preferences for dining in restaurants have not been established. As a
result, the foodservice industry may well be forgoing substantive opportunities to market to restaurant
patrons and to strengthen the attractiveness of dining out experiences. Indeed, the tourism and
hospitality literature points to a relation between the demographic attributes of families and food
purchases that are made away from home. Evidence of a viable market can be taken from the rate of
growth over several decades: the amount of discretionary money that American families spend on
dining out has increased from 25% of their food budget to 50% in the years spanning 1955 to 2006.
Data Analysis The family life cycle (FLC) conceit provides a method for reflecting the anticipated
variations in purchasing patterns attributed to changes in the needs and capacities of families over the
duration of the family unit life cycle (Lawson, 1988). However, the model has not held up well to sea
changes in the composition, structure, and flux of modern family units (Lin Lehto, 2006). As
recommended by Schaninger and Danko (993), the authors took an approach typical to the
development of target market personas, such that they were able to categorize households in a manner
that maximized between group variance. The resultant modifications collapsed the number of
categories from eight

beaches as community services, organize a specific group that was in charge of planning and getting
people together for a monthly cleanup either on the beaches or around town where the waste is worst.
With the help of everyone in the city and the people, the people are hoping that in about 20 years they
will have a successful society with organized trash organic and dry garbage piles that can be sold

Social Programs And Its Effects On America
However, in slums and other poor communities around the world, this luxury is not present. Poorer
communities cannot guarantee the same rate of success for its programs because it is not as clear
whether the social programs invested in will succeed. In addition, there is not a large pool of investors
that are willing to invest in SIB s in poor slums. First, investors would be turned off to the idea of
investing in the slums because the social programs are not as likely to work so there is less possibility
of making a profit. Considering there exists a risk rate. Even if the social programs did succeed,
because the slums are not as advanced as American communities, it would take longer to see the true
effect of the social program and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for the SIB model to work in corrupt, developing countries, a system of checks and balances
would need to be implemented in order to ensure that each partner was acting legally and in the best
interest of society. Social impact bonds have a very clear intention to improve the community in a fair
and legitimate way; however, many people criticize this investing model because of the return rate of
profits on the initial investment and the guarantee of the investors money back for certain parties. The
social impact bond investing model was originally created to focus on impacting social change rather
than making a profit. Because of this, even when social programs were successful, rates of return were
expected to be minimal at best simply to reward the investors for taking time, effort, and money to
help improve at risk communities. However, people became outraged when they discovered that
Goldman Sachs was making a significant return on investment. One of the most highly publicized SIB
s, like mentioned before, is one for the Riker s Island recidivism project which Goldman Sachs
decided to invest 9.6 million dollars into. While this seems generous, Goldman Sachs was
theoretically supposed to receive a 22 percent return, resulting

The beginnings and ends of what we choose to call centuries are almost invariably years of little
significance. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there were
several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of
Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid 1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global recession
of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling case can be
made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a predictable
culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and political
revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the processes and
misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the late 1860s to the
1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were in turn fed by
imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and consequences of the Great
War that began in 1914. That conflict determined the contours of the twentieth century in myriad
ways. On the one hand, the war set in motion transformative processes that were clearly major
departures from those that defined the nineteenth century world order. On the other, it perversely
unleashed forces

God’s Creative Authority in Genesis and Job Essay
God s role in the Bible is characterized in several different ways, with dramatically competing
attributes. He takes on many functions and, as literary characters are, he is dynamic and changes over
time. The portrayal of God is unique in separate books throughout the Bible. This flexibility of role
and character is exemplified by the discrepancy in the depiction of God in the book of Genesis in
comparison to the depiction of God in the book of Job. On the larger scale, God creates with intention
in Genesis in contrast to destroying without reason in Job. However, as the scale gets smaller, God s
creative authority can be seen in both books, yet this creative authority is manifested in entirely
distinctive manners. In Genesis, God as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He distinguishes his inventions with minute details and yet, simultaneously, the entire creation is pure
and simple. There is no elaboration; his ideas just come into being. Once each individual creation has
come to be, God sees that is it good. Additionally, God is reasonable. There is a logical reason and a
unique place for everything: God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome
from the waters that were above the dome (Genesis 1:7). In addition to the content of God s will and
creations, the repetition and standardization of the verses in Genesis 1 reflect his steadiness as a
creator. In stark contrast to God s presence in Genesis, the character of God in Job strays from the
ideal perfection of the divine. The concept of the ideal manifested in Genesis is embodied in God s
moral, reasonable, and rational behavior. In Job, on the other hand, rather than being reasonable,
methodical, and creating life, God displays more human characteristics and plays the role of both
creator and destroyer. The book of Job begins with God s boastful bargain with Satan, which
subsequently leads God to allow the total destruction of Job s family and livelihood. Job is even
attacked physically with loathsome sores... from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head (Job 2:7).
In an uncharacteristically immoral decision, God gives Satan the power do

How often have you heard the chant I L L I N I? Here on the campus I hear this chant a lot in support
of school sprit. This chant is widely used throughout the university at most sporting events and I have
personally heard the chant at highly populated social gatherings. This university renowned chant when
implemented at the sports aspect is a great crowd pleaser and I am pretty sure it hypes up our home
team to a certain extent. I ve recently attended the Men s basketball home game against Wisconsin on
March 2nd, 2013 to witness this chant first hand but primarily I attended the game in regards to
evaluating the event from a consultant s perspective.

My ticket cost was about eleven dollars because I sat in the C level, while the B level was 25 dollars,
and the A level was 40 dollars for a ticket. As I stated earlier there was a special package deal, which
consisted of four C level tickets for 50 dollars because of the 50th anniversary of assembly hall. Once
entering the building you have more ticketing attendants who rip off stubs on both the main level and
upper level of the arena.
Three different levels classify the seating in the Assembly hall. The first level is floor seating, the
second level seating is about the first 30 rows, and while the last and last highest level are rows 40
going back towards the top of the structure. I think that the idea behind the seating structure was to
create the most possible seats for fans. There are over 16,000 seats at Assembly Hall. There were
ushers at the opening of each seating sections that were labeled by numbers. The usher directed me
towards my seat without me asking which were only a few rows before top row of is seats in the
building. It was easy gaining access due to the labeling of the rows and seat numbers on the side of the
stairs as you walk up them. Towards the end of the game I conversed with an usher. She was very
enthusiastic and knowledgeable of other areas of the arena. She stated that she had been working at
Assembly hall for years and really enjoys helping people. The seats were not that

The Failure of the League of Nations and the Outbreak of War in 1939
There are many causes for the outbreak of the Second World War. These include the failure of the
League of Nations, the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler s actions and so on. Some of them are more
important then others and are mostly linked with another cause.
The failure of the League of Nations was one of the main reasons for the outbreak of war. It exposed
weaknesses which encouraged Hitler to invade. The League had failed to resolve the major political
disputes. There were a number of such incidents but the most important ones were the Manchurian
Crisis, 1931 and the Abyssinian Crisis, 1935. In 1931, the members of the League ... Show more

The League of Nations was established after World War One to keep peace, one of its functions was to
uphold the Treaty of Versailles. This led a lot of people to feel that the League is a force representing
the winners of the First World War against the Germans. This made people to connect it with the
harshness of the Treaty and so led to a lack of trust in the League of Nations. For example the
Germans were bitter that they had to accept the total blame for starting the war and hated the fact they
had to pay reparations of £6,600,000,000 and didn t want anything that stood for it.
Hitler saw all these weaknesses of the League and believed that if he invaded a country the League
would be unable to stop him. This was a very important reason because if Hitler thought he had
powerful oppositions, he might not have started war.
Versailles was the peace treaty made at the end of the First World War and another cause of the
Second World War. It caused a lot of resentment in Germany, as it was seen by its people (and by other
countries) as extremely harsh. Germany had to pay a large amount of reparations, which it could not
afford to do so since the War had also damaged the German economy. The Treaty demanded
disarmament of Germany and demilitarisation of the

  • 2. The Balance Scorecard, By Robert S. Kaplan And David P.... As suggested by the biggest proponents of the Balance Scorecard, Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton, What you measure is what you get. Senior executives understand that their organization s measurement system strongly affects the behavior of managers and employees. Hence, after a year long research with many companies, they devised the Balance Scorecard (BSC) measure which revolutionized the traditional thinking about performance measures. By looking beyond the traditional financial performance measures, the managers were able to better understand the strategy, positioning and performance of their company. The underlying reason behind getting this comprehensive view of the business was BSC approach focused on predicting future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. The Philippine Insurrection The Philippine Insurrection of 1899 1902 was a little different than most insurgencies. Using Mao s 3 phases of an insurgency, which I will break down below. The native demand for liberation from Spain had been building since the 1880s. In 1892 a poor warehouseman by the name of Andres Bonifacio organized a group called the Katiunan, hoping to drive the Spaniard s out of the Philippines. As in other insurgencies, we are seeing groups coming together for the same objective, but not all insurgent groups get along. In 1896 after a reign of terror against the islanders, Emilio Aguinaldo, a rival group leader, took over leadership by having Bonifacio executed. The insurgency was forced into the hills, but the fighting continued. The people wanted Spain out and supported an independent Philippines. In 1897 Spain paid Aguinaldo off to stop the fighting and sent him to Hong Kong. This put the insurgency back into survival mode and brought a temporary peace. Aguinaldo made a pact with the United States which was at war with Spain at the time. With the assistance of Commodore Dewey they were able to have a decisive victory over the Spanish in Manila. June 12th then became Philippine Independence Day in 1898. The Americans seemed reluctant to leave and in December Spain formally ceded the Philippines to the United States in the Paris Peace Treaty. In January 1899 Aguinaldo staged an inauguration of the First Philippine Republic. This was an uneasy peace, because what was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the film, Waiting For Superman, director, Davis Guggenheim, investigates the various ways these schools are producing failing students in the United States. By following the stories of five children throughout the documentary we, the viewers, begin to take notice of the corrupt public school system as the children experience the inequalities of a low income school first hand. Guggenheim uses audio and pop up animations to effectively argue his claim and motivate the audience to change the way public schools are being operated. The audio in this film plays a huge role in how the audience perceives the information they are obtaining. Whether it is a lack of sound, or an upbeat song it creates an atmosphere or tone for that segment of the movie. Throughout the film aside from the statistics and the lives of the children being shown, Guggenheim incorporates clips from old tv shows, presidential speeches and more. When these clips are being viewed an energetic and quick song is being played. The information presented in these clips happens to be statements about how the president s believe they want to be the education president or the clips express happy faces of children learning and smiling teachers. Guggenheim presents the fact that up until the 1970 s, American public schools were the best in the world while children are doing experiments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The play is based on the concept that no man is a born offender. It is the embodiment of a true Christian. The Bishop has all the virtues which a bishop ought to have he is selfless, kind, generous and charitable. He has a childlike innocence and does not understand any dupe . His absolute faith in God has made him fearless. The convict s treats to kill him fail to unnerve him. He hates sin but loves sinners. • 8. The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so that we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30 years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects. Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997). Colonialism made a profound impact on the economic development in Tanzania. The general motive behind colonization was the acquisition of raw materials for economic development in Germany. Tanzania was a supplier of raw materials like minerals and agricultural commodities and a buyer of processed manufactured goods. These economic structures established by the colonial powers had lasting implications which affected the independent government s economic performance. Initially, and similar to the USSR after becoming a communist state, Tanzania introduced a five year economic plan. However, unlike the Soviet Union, the first five year plan was made to implement a programme which depended on foreign investment to support massive, capital intensive industrialization and agricultural development projects. Consequently, this economic policy upheld colonial ideals. Later, in attempt to reconstruct Tanzania s national identity and off the benefits of capitalism, the Arusha Declaration was avowed. • 15. Is Bataille s Philosophy Something We Could Realistically... Is Bataille s philosophy something we could realistically live by? Critically discuss with reference to the concepts of unproductive expenditure and transgression. Bataille argues that in modern capitalist society, we are measured by our utility and production within this system. Material utility is restricted to production and to conserving goods whilst limited to reproduction and to the preservation of human life. As a result, we work within this framework where values, rules and laws have been created for us to work within, which, Bataille argues, restricts our liberty. Though utility is an apparent positive principle of capitalism, Bataille sees this as a principle of powerlessness and an incapability of being able to expend (Botting and Wilson, 1997, 192). He uses the example of a boy who wants to waste and destroy but cannot do this because he cannot justify it in utilitarian terms and is unaware that others also have this interest. The father of the boy is partly responsible for repressing the boy s desire to waste and destroy through things he provides for him: a home, clothes food and partial recreation. This does not actually satisfy what the son s desires are as there is something fundamental within the character of the son. Bataille is trying to demonstrate how in society, the father is like production, which provides us with the basic components of living but not what we really need and how this excess desire the boy has, needs to be satisfied. Everyone is born into a different situation and the opportunities they are exposed to differ depending on the person. After the dream moved on from home ownership, it turned into a need for the latest products. Middle class Americans, however, did not have enough money to purchase the new trend. In 1950, the first credit card was introduced and as time went on it became more popular than ever. Americans were thrilled with the idea of owning everything they could imagine without having the money to do so; however, many people racked up a large amount of debt. In addition to the debt, America faced a mortgage crisis in the early 2000 s. • 18. Agency Theory Essay QUESTION 1 (i) AGENCY COSTS IN DEBT CONTRACTING The agency theory examines the relationship between the principle and agent under the assumption that that individuals act in their own self interest in order to maximise their personal wealth. This conflict of interest creates agency costs that are borne by the principle. The agency problem is apparent in debt contacting relationships where the firm is assumed to be acting in the interests of its shareholders when borrowing money from the debt holders. Agency costs are incurred by the debt holder when a firm engages in opportunistic behaviours in an attempt to expropriate wealth away from its debt holder. As a result, the debt holder faces an increased risk of lending the funds to the firm. There are four common opportunistic actions that firm can take in order to expropriate wealth from its debt holder PAY EXCESSIVE DIVIDENDS Black (as cited in Smith and Warner, 1979) states that there is no easier way for a company to escape the burden of debt than to pay out all of its assets in the form of dividend, and leave the creditors holding an empty shell . In this situation, the firm promises the debt holder to maintain a consistent dividend policy at the time of borrowing funds but later increases the rate of dividends. According to Smith and Warner (1979), the increase in dividend policy reduces the value of the debt and ultimately, increases the risk to the debt holders. • 20. Rotary Youth Leadership Experience Paper In July of 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA). RYLA is a summer camp that focuses on transforming students into leaders and creating awareness for different issues throughout society. The 2015 session included three activities that built my character and changed me for the better, These activities were the culture walk, breaking of the boards, and exchange ceremony. For the culture walk, our leader split the room into two halves and had certain groups of heavily stereotyped people take turns gathering together on one side . They were then asked questions such as what do you never want to hear someone say about your group again? and were asked to answer out loud. The other half of the room remained quiet until asked to respond. Some of the responses to the aforementioned question were: Boys who cry are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the energy could be felt buzzing through the room, our counselors began grabbing chairs and setting them next to each other. One of the counselors set her board between two chairs and broke it in half with her bare hand. We all watched intently and began cheering as she succeeded. We followed her example, and by the end of the activity, everyone had broken their board using their hand or foot. This was such an empowering activity for me. With such devotion of time resources and the his tells us, from an evolutionary standpoint, that sleep is an important part of the success of an animal. But what fitness does sleep confer to an organism? Although sleep occurs across many species of animals, the function of sleep behavior is not fully understood. In one such study, eye movements, recorded by electrooculograms (EOG) correlated with the brain activity in electroencephalograms(EEGs) as well as respiratory rate, indicating the existence of distinct sleep states which were not randomly generated (Aserinsky and Klietman, 1953). The discovery of distinct states showed sleep was not just a passive behavior. Instead, it consists of three to four distinct states as well as REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, each with their own unique brain activity. While REM sleep has been in the scientific spotlight since its discovery for its role in consolidation of emotional memory (Sara, 2017), recently more studies have begun to focus on the role of slow wave sleep. Slow wave sleep (SWS) encompasses the stage 3 4 subset of non REM sleep and is characterized by delta waves that consist of slow oscillations of activity. This type of sleep occurs primarily at the onset of sleep and time spent in SWS declines in humans as aging occurs. SWS seems to be most important in the consolidation phase, though the mechanisms of this consolidation are still being explored in the scientific community. Public executions can do many things like deter crimes from happening, giving the victims closure, and finding the right kind of execution method that is inexpensive and once used throughout history. The ability to deter crimes with the method of public execution is one we should not waste. It leaves everyone with the knowledge that there is nothing to keep them from being the next one on the chopping block so to speak, especially if they have committed such a crime to deserve the sentence. As a symbolic image of Hemingway himself, Nick Adams is faced with troubling relationships that ultimately define who he is. Life experiences from young to old define show how Nick lives his love before, during, and after World War One. These experiences strengthen his relationships, maturity, and masculinity. One of the most important themes, masculinity, is portrayed directly at the start of Hemingway s short story collection starting with Indian Camp. In the first short story the reader sees the novels protagonist, Nick Adams , response to violence and suffering inflicted on others will ultimately define his own sense of masculinity (Frazier). Witnessing this dramatic event at such a young age will define Nick s life and change the way he views certain aspects of life just from watching a woman give birth. Nick s maturity and responsibility are also themes that are greatly exploited just as well as his masculinity. Similarly, in Education for leisure , an egotistical young adult is portrayed who is killing living things to undo his intense isolation. The metaphor is also an example of hyperbole as it over exaggerates on how exhausted he is due to his inability to control his emotions. This suggests that the persona is angry and frustrated at his life. The snowman could symbolize what he doesn t have; therefore, portraying his rage towards the snowman. The snowman could also be symbolized as himself, which shows his self destructive behavior as he tries to punish the part of himself that he sees in the inanimate object. In the other poem, the character does something similar as he squishes a fly against the window using his thumb . This shows how the persona releases all his irritation on a vulnerable creature that cannot do anything to escape from the situation. This suggests that he loves the feeling of over empowerment but it also suggests that he is a coward as he displays his rage on a susceptible and tiny creature. It also portrays how cruel and disheartened of a person he is as the fly didn t have anything to do with why he was left out and isolated all along his life. Despite of this fact, he still went forward with killing the poor fly because of his failure to control his rage. It is mentioned that he commits this purposeless murder with his thumb . In the early 1800 s, when the house was first built, the Pyncheons were a thriving, wealthy, and influential family. In the yard outside the house stands an overgrown elm tree symbolizing the growth of the darkness in the Pyncheon family. The great tree blocks the sun from shining into the home. Problem Statement Market segmentation methods that reliably utilize information about family life cycle to ascertain consumers preferences for dining in restaurants have not been established. As a result, the foodservice industry may well be forgoing substantive opportunities to market to restaurant patrons and to strengthen the attractiveness of dining out experiences. Indeed, the tourism and hospitality literature points to a relation between the demographic attributes of families and food purchases that are made away from home. Evidence of a viable market can be taken from the rate of growth over several decades: the amount of discretionary money that American families spend on dining out has increased from 25% of their food budget to 50% in the years spanning 1955 to 2006. Data Analysis The family life cycle (FLC) conceit provides a method for reflecting the anticipated variations in purchasing patterns attributed to changes in the needs and capacities of families over the duration of the family unit life cycle (Lawson, 1988). However, the model has not held up well to sea changes in the composition, structure, and flux of modern family units (Lin Lehto, 2006). • 41. Social Programs And Its Effects On America However, in slums and other poor communities around the world, this luxury is not present. Poorer communities cannot guarantee the same rate of success for its programs because it is not as clear whether the social programs invested in will succeed. In addition, there is not a large pool of investors that are willing to invest in SIB s in poor slums. First, investors would be turned off to the idea of investing in the slums because the social programs are not as likely to work so there is less possibility of making a profit. Considering there exists a risk rate. Even if the social programs did succeed, because the slums are not as advanced as American communities, it would take longer to see the true effect of the social program and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for the SIB model to work in corrupt, developing countries, a system of checks and balances would need to be implemented in order to ensure that each partner was acting legally and in the best interest of society. Social impact bonds have a very clear intention to improve the community in a fair and legitimate way; however, many people criticize this investing model because of the return rate of profits on the initial investment and the guarantee of the investors money back for certain parties. The social impact bond investing model was originally created to focus on impacting social change rather than making a profit. Because of this, even when social programs were successful, rates of return were expected to be minimal at best simply to reward the investors for taking time, effort, and money to help improve at risk communities. However, people became outraged when they discovered that Goldman Sachs was making a significant return on investment. One of the most highly publicized SIB s, like mentioned before, is one for the Riker s Island recidivism project which Goldman Sachs decided to invest 9.6 million dollars into. While this seems generous, Goldman Sachs was theoretically supposed to receive a 22 percent return, resulting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The beginnings and ends of what we choose to call centuries are almost invariably years of little significance. But there is little agreement over when the twentieth century c.e. arrived, and there were several points both before the year 2000 (the collapse of the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, the surge of globalization from the mid 1990s) and afterward (9/11, or the global recession of 2008) when one could quite plausibly argue that a new era had begun. A compelling case can be made for viewing the decades of the global scramble for colonies after 1870 as a predictable culmination of the long nineteenth century, which was ushered in by the industrial and political revolutions of the late 1700s. But at the same time, without serious attention to the processes and misguided policies that led to decades of agrarian and industrial depression from the late 1860s to the 1890s, as well as the social tensions and political rivalries that generated and were in turn fed by imperialist expansionism, one cannot begin to comprehend the causes and consequences of the Great War that began in 1914. That conflict determined the contours of the twentieth century in myriad ways. On the one hand, the war set in motion transformative processes that were clearly major departures from those that defined the nineteenth century world order. On the other, it perversely unleashed forces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. God’s Creative Authority in Genesis and Job Essay God s role in the Bible is characterized in several different ways, with dramatically competing attributes. He takes on many functions and, as literary characters are, he is dynamic and changes over time. The portrayal of God is unique in separate books throughout the Bible. This flexibility of role and character is exemplified by the discrepancy in the depiction of God in the book of Genesis in comparison to the depiction of God in the book of Job. On the larger scale, God creates with intention in Genesis in contrast to destroying without reason in Job. However, as the scale gets smaller, God s creative authority can be seen in both books, yet this creative authority is manifested in entirely distinctive manners. In Genesis, God as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He distinguishes his inventions with minute details and yet, simultaneously, the entire creation is pure and simple. There is no elaboration; his ideas just come into being. Once each individual creation has come to be, God sees that is it good. Additionally, God is reasonable. There is a logical reason and a unique place for everything: God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome (Genesis 1:7). In addition to the content of God s will and creations, the repetition and standardization of the verses in Genesis 1 reflect his steadiness as a creator. In stark contrast to God s presence in Genesis, the character of God in Job strays from the ideal perfection of the divine. The concept of the ideal manifested in Genesis is embodied in God s moral, reasonable, and rational behavior. In Job, on the other hand, rather than being reasonable, methodical, and creating life, God displays more human characteristics and plays the role of both creator and destroyer. The book of Job begins with God s boastful bargain with Satan, which subsequently leads God to allow the total destruction of Job s family and livelihood. The first level is floor seating, the second level seating is about the first 30 rows, and while the last and last highest level are rows 40 going back towards the top of the structure. • 46. The Failure of the League of Nations and the Outbreak of... The Failure of the League of Nations and the Outbreak of War in 1939 There are many causes for the outbreak of the Second World War. These include the failure of the League of Nations, the Treaty of Versailles, Hitler s actions and so on. Some of them are more important then others and are mostly linked with another cause. The failure of the League of Nations was one of the main reasons for the outbreak of war. It exposed weaknesses which encouraged Hitler to invade. The League had failed to resolve the major political disputes. There were a number of such incidents but the most important ones were the Manchurian Crisis, 1931 and the Abyssinian Crisis, 1935. In 1931, the members of the League ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The League of Nations was established after World War One to keep peace, one of its functions was to uphold the Treaty of Versailles. This led a lot of people to feel that the League is a force representing the winners of the First World War against the Germans. This made people to connect it with the harshness of the Treaty and so led to a lack of trust in the League of Nations. For example the Germans were bitter that they had to accept the total blame for starting the war and hated the fact they had to pay reparations of £6,600,000,000 and didn t want anything that stood for it. Hitler saw all these weaknesses of the League and believed that if he invaded a country the League would be unable to stop him. This was a very important reason because if Hitler thought he had powerful oppositions, he might not have started war. Versailles was the peace treaty made at the end of the First World War and another cause of the Second World War. It caused a lot of resentment in Germany, as it was seen by its people (and by other countries) as extremely harsh. Germany had to pay a large amount of reparations, which it could not afford to do so since the War had also damaged the German economy. The Treaty demanded disarmament of Germany and demilitarisation of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
