Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity
INTRODUCTION
Aim:
To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity.
Background information:
Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be
used as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur.
Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme
substrate specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further
explain enzyme substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is
required. An active site is where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical
reactions are catalyzed. Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of
enzymes and once the substrate fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is
catalyzed. After the products are released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As
has been said above Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some
enzymes can catalyze more than one biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is
closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate.
Figure 1(the shape of enzymes)
Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain
temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme
will change. Once

Dojo Observation
The dojo I visited is the dojo Buena Park known as Chushinkan Dojo which is taught by
Nakayama Sensei. I visited the dojo on Thursday, November 12, 2015. I did have general
observations of the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. There were techniques I
recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not experienced before. There was a technique I found
interesting. There was not much a difference in learning from CSUF and the dojo. The most
interesting part of my visit was watching students test.
I had general observations about the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. The dojo did
not have its own property and was inside a community center, this was something I did not expect.
In this Aikido course in CSUF, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some students did better than others which is usual for testings. In the Aikido course I remember
when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and
are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what
Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they
do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido
course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement
to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication.
This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is
apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it.
I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in
techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where
individuals are serious with Aikido. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido
concept I have not experienced before. I admire how Aikido is usually done not for profit but for
sharing Aikido with others, which is seen when the dojo is in a community center. The dojo visit
was actually an interesting experience

We all are living in a science world. Everything has some kind of reaction going on in our living
area. It is just we do not get to see or realize that where n how we having our life much easier than
it used to be. In these writing assignments, the topic is about the organic chemistry. In organic
chemistry, we all have different kinds of compounds. In addition, alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes are
the parts of the organic and inorganic compounds. We also can learn about the structural formula

Above n=17 they are solids at room temperature. Although alkanes with higher values of n are
found in diesel fuel, fuel oil, petroleum jelly, motor oils. The fossil fuel resource from which we
obtain the alkanes is much valuable to burn it all as a motor fuel. Alkanes derivatives are used in
hundreds of products such as plastics, paints, drugs, cosmetics, detergent, etc. (R, N. n.d.).
Alkenes are an unsaturated chemical compound containing at least one carbon to carbon double
bond. The simple alkenes have only one double bond and no other functional groups. For
example, (C=C). The boiling points of each alkene are very similar to that of the alkane with the
same number of carbon atoms. In this case, the alkenes have a boiling point which is a small
number of degrees lower than the alkane. Each alkene has 2 fewer electrons than the alkane with
the same number of carbons. (Clark, J. 2003).
Hydrocarbons that contain carbon carbon triple bonds. The triple bond adds two elements of
unsaturation. For example, (Cп‚єC). They are insoluble in water. In addition, their boiling points
show the usual increase with increasing carbon number. The unsaturated nature of alkynes means
that most of their reactions will be similar to those of alkenes.
The difference between these groups is in the bond types between carbons. Alkanes form only
single bonds, alkenes form double bonds, and in alkynes, there is one triple bond. The structural
formulas for each of

Roles Of Women In The 1800s Essay
Roles of Women in the late 1800sAround the late 1800s, the roles of women were different than
todays. Women could not participate in majority of the occupations that men are allowed too.
Women could not vote, they were unauthorized to own property, and were restricted to working.
Women were only seen as stay at home wives, and completed all the duties as a housewife.
Women cooked, cleaned, and nurtured the children while the fathers worked outside the home.
The womanhood was considered to be piety and domesticity with submissiveness and passivity.
Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godey s Lady s book, characterized women as one who was timid
and delicate, demanded protection, and possessed a sweet dependency. Men were symbolized as
aggressive, materialistic, and competitive; therefore, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From 1870 till 1900, the number of wage earning women flourish by relatively 70 percent. Beliefs
about the womanhood decided which woman could enter the work field. In 1890, nearly 5 percent
of married white women, in the neighborhood of 41 percent single women, and around 30
percent of African American women worked outside the homes. Women often worked as
domestic servants, doing the jobs of nursing, office work, teaching, and sales. By the mid 1870s,
states in the North passed the Married Women Property Act, which allowed married women to
own and control property in their own right. In some states, the law varied widely; however, this
epitomized the transfer of property rights and made improvements to the status of American
married women. Teachers from the North were selected to educate former slaves. In 1869, over 9
thousand teachers were initiated to instruct former slaves. Over half a million African Americans,
ranging from all ages, were inducted in elementary schools. Before the Civil War, it was

Literacy Definition Essay
The standardized definition of literacy has always been the ability to read and write, but the
cultural definition of literacy has always managed to change its shape based on the socioeconomic
state of a community. A child is first raised by their community and through such connection they
are molded by their community s standards of life. A community, whether it is rich or poor, holds
the ability to create/shape its own perception of literacyand therefor place a value on the importance
of it. If education is only expressed in an institutional form, a child will clearly feel a disconnect
between what they have learned at home and what has been taught in the classroom. Literacy in
most neighborhoods, including mine, took shape in writingon... Show more content on

The dog is a live free thinking being that has limited room to roam because it is always on a
leash. Sometimes the leash might get loose and allow the dog to roam further, but the fact that
the dog is on a leash does not change. The question then arises, what if the dog breaks free? What
if the dog steals away in the middle of the night and runaways into the woods? This new found
freedom is exciting and thrilling at first, but sooner rather than later the dog realizes it does not
know how to survive on its own. That being said, the great thing about a young dog is that, it can
still learn new tricks. College is a completely new territory where writing prompts are extremely
vague and your paper is what you decide. This new found freedom is strange and with less
restrictions I find myself exploring forms of literacy that utilize both standardized and cultural
reading and writing. The standardized definition of literacy is set by the ruling political power and
it describes what politicians imagine the country should be, completely disregarding the melting pot
we have become. The cultural definition of literacy reflects the true state of our country and it
depicts a multitude of children s standards of living. When you combine the two you gain new
developments in the world of literacy and you annihilate the single

Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan
While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the
influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991
interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable
elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to
think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said
with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example,
are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many
different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly
stated.
From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not
sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following
you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who
Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a
music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional
character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is
when the song is said to have been written.
While there are many lines in the song/poem that could easily be viewed

Symbolism and Sexism in Ibsen’s “a Doll’s House”

Henrik Ibsen, the author of the controversial play A Doll s House said, There are two kinds of
moral laws, two kinds of conscience, one for men and one, quite different, for women. They don t
understand each other; but in practical life, woman is judged by masculine law, as though she
weren t a woman but a man...A woman cannot be herself in modern society. Isben created the plot
of A Doll s House from those ideas. Ibsen was viewed by his contemporaries as a moral and social

Since Nora s father was dying, she was forced to forge his signature in order to secure a loan that
would eventually save her husband s life, which only led to more problems in the future because
in order for her to be able to repay the money she must lie about how she spends her household
accounts and also lie about taking odd jobs to earn extra money. Also, the way Torvald treats
Nora in the play depicts the way women were treated in the nineteenth century. For example, In
Act I, Nora is little more than a child playing a role. She is a doll occupying a doll s house, a
child who has exchanged a father for a husband without changing or maturing in any way.
Torvald treats his wife literally like a doll, calling her pet names and occasionally scolding her as
if she were a child. His primary interests are his new job as a bank manager and his social
standing. When he learns that his wife is involved in a legal problem that would embarrass him
if it became known to the public, he reveals who he really is. He comes off as a hypocrite
preoccupied with his own welfare. Also, Torvald says that Nora is now his property which is
when Nora realizes she is much too good for him. Nora then decides to leave because they have
been married for eight years and has suffered enough injustice from both her father and Torvald.
Nora explains to Torvald that she has been merry, not happy, being with him. She explained to him

Negative Effects Of Technology And Social Media
Technology and social media in today s world are evolving tremendously. When stepping outside
into the streets, a rare count of faces appear to be looking up. Instead those faces are being shoved
into their phones. These two objects are becoming so intriguing, that many lose sight of the
beautiful city or town they are currently roaming through. Today people rely solely on technology
instead of interacting face to face. It is destroying the interaction between people communicating in
person. Communicating and connecting in person is a vital source all over the world, without it
people will become lost, the use of technology and social mediashould be limited. Many believe
social media is the answer to almost all problems happening in their lives. Feeling sad? Easiest
way to fix that is to watch funny videos on YouTube or play Pandora music. Bored? Candy crush
or Imessage games on the iPhone is the got to. Interested in seeing what friends or family
members are up to? Just check Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter. Many believe that
each application that is available for download are great and essential for having a phone. When
it comes to texting or calling, according to the essay No Need to Call , Sherry Turkle makes it
well known that people today would rather text than call and talk over the phone or in person.
Not only do people say that a phone call asks too much, they worry it will be received as
demanding too much (Turkle 375). They believe that talking over the phone is a big burden to
others, so they rather email or send a text message so that others can reply on their own time. The
use of technology and social media, helps to find valuable information easy. There is no waiting
on a letter, telegram, or tuning into the radio at a certain time of the day. It is as simple as logging
onto a computer or telephone, and accessing the internet browser to complete a Google, Yahoo, or
Bing search. The answer for majority of the questions will show up immediately. In the essay

Rhetorical Devices Used In A Change To Come By Gcse
Sam Cooke, A Change is Gonna Come
Heralded by many as the anthem to the Civil Rights Movement, A Change is Gonna Come by
Sam Cooke was and still is one of the most influential songs of all time. The song was originally
released in 1964 on the album Ain t That Good News , but was released again as a single eleven
days after Sam Cooke s untimely death on the 11th of December, 1964.
There is no other social movement so effected by pop culture in the last century than the black
Civil Rights Movement in America during the 1960s. The music at the time had political
motivation and yet it was still enjoyed widely as pop music. Sam Cooke was one of the few
African American artists of his generation to successfully crossover and reach both a white and
black audience. In the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, Cooke was wary to ... Show more

He sings; I go to the movie and I go down town/Somebody keep telling me don t hang around ,
referring, of course, to the incident in the Louisiana. This lyric, while seeming innocuous, spoke
to all of his coloured fans as it was a situation they were all to familiar with. The middle eight,
which reads; Then I go to my brother / And I say, Brother, help me please. / But he winds up
knockin me / Back down on my knees. , is a phrase highlighting the aggression the movement
received from the police force during their marches. The very people meant to protect and serve
ended up being one of the biggest obstacles to overcome during the notorious peace walks.
Despite the air of anguish throughout, it is a song of hope. The famed lyrics; It s been a long, a
long time coming / But I know a change gon come , that appear at the end of every verse, are the
bones on which the whole song is built. Even after Cooke s death, this message remained one of
positivity and aspiration. His epitaph became a crutch for the movement to lean on instead of

What Is The Central Idea Of The Wife s Story
The central idea of the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula Le Guin, is a wolf who finds out
she is the wife of a werewolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my
own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). This quote shows the wife
finding out about her husband s curse, which is the central idea. The character vs. character
conflict of the family finding out about the husband and the character vs. self conflict of the
husband changing into a human and or wolf helps develop the central idea because, without these
conflicts there would be no story. In the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula LeGuin, there are
many different forms of conflict. Some examples of those are, character vs. character when the
family finds out about the husband being a werewolf, and character vs. self with the husband
dealing with him being a werewolf and changing between man and wolf. To support this the author
states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines

these that will be discussed throughout this essay are To uphold the ideal of Australian as a

of its people. Evidence will be explored that shows Australiais committed to being a fair, tolerant

The Debate Over The Internet
The Internet in the year 2009. We send e mails, make calls over the internet and discuss topics
we take an interest in. Even our banking is going virtual. But what we take for granted today
was only a vague idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to
1957, when everything began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is
called batch processing. Of course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and
bigger they had to be stored in special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly
on the computers anymore specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that
time meant a lot of manual work and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs,
wasting time and fraying the developersВґ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote
connection had to be installed so the developers could work directly on the computers. At the
same time the idea of time sharing came up. This is the first concept in computer technology to
share the processing power of one computer with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the
Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik 1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The
fear of a Missile Gap emerged. In order to secure America s lead in technology, the US founded
the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in February 1958. At that time, knowledge was
only transferred by people. The DARPA planned a

The Importance Of Revenge In Hamlet
Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder (Act I Scene V, Ghost). The Ghost is a messenger
from Hell that persuades a vulnerable Hamlet into doing evil acts against his family and those that
appear closest to him. In behavior alone, Hamlet s dramatic change in personality shows how the
Ghost has influenced him in an evil way. There are multiple examples throughout this entire play
that displays a dark cloud that follows Hamletaround. Unfortunately, these bad things just continue
to happen to Hamlet and around him. The Ghost poses as a helpful character, in the beginning,
showing Hamlet what really happened, but he actually just wanted to take revenge on the person
who killed him.
The Ghost enters into the story in the figure of Hamlet s recently deceased father to Marcellus

witness the sighting of the Ghost. Horatio then is shocked because he sees the Ghost is wearing
armor similar to that of King Hamlet s, who had recently passed away. This makes Prince Hamlet
aware of the sighting as well. Hamlet then consequently goes to see the Ghost and follows him out
past the castle walls. He then proceeds to tell him that his uncle, who had just married Hamlet s
mother, killed his father in his sleep with poison and that he must seek revenge. Right from the
beginning, the Ghost is implementing horrible ideas into Hamlet s mind who is hurt by the passing

The piece I have chose to analyze is an online video recording of Beethoven Egmont Ouverture,
Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 and Mahler Symphony No. 1 preformed by the Royal Stockholm

Throughout the piece I found myself taking the role of a referential listener. Which I believe to be
something I naturally am rather than it being a comment on the piece. While listening I found

Also it seems that both the instruments used and their arrangement amongst one another is
done in a way that resembles how it would have been originally played. The first piece,
Beethoven Egmont Ouverture, Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 was particularly good I thought
and exhibited a lot of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example unity, throughout
the piece I felt that there was a strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar.
Even when there would be seemingly unrelated ideas thrown in, I always felt that it was taken
back to familiar ideas. Having said that there was definitely a lot of variety in the piece. There
were several ideas throughout, which sometime would come back in a pattern while others
would only make an appearance once. There was also a lot of variety in the volume or dynamic
of the piece which gave a nice variety to it. Additionally several different instruments were used
which gave several different timbres. The tempo also varied a lot within the piece. Going from
fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave it a nice feel. The overall
rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the classical era of art (2).
The second piece, Mahler Symphony No. 1 was not as good for me, although it still exhibited a lot
of the concepts we have studied in this course. For example

Chromosomes Vs Dna Of Apple And Banana
Chromosomes vs DNA of an Apple and Banana
Introduction
The genetic blueprint of all living thing is Deoxyribonucleic Acid or DNA. The chromosomes are
thread like structures located inside the nucleus of plant cells and are up of protein and a single
molecule of DNA. An apple contains 34 chromosomes and a banana contains 22 chromosomes. The
purpose of this experiment was to see if the number of chromosomes effect the amount of DNA in
an apple and a banana. DNA is extracted from the apple and banana. The type of fruitwas the only
thing not changed in the experiment making it the independent variable. The amount of DNA is
what is being measured, making it the dependent variable. Any living thing contains DNA,
however, the skin of the fruit must be removed as it does not contain DNA because it is mostly dead.

The apple and banana were cut into equal portions, weighed and put in separate bags. Next, we
crushed the apple and banana in each bag using our hands to mush the fruit into a pudding like
mixture. Then we added equal amounts of salt water to each bag and again mixed the mixture
by kneading each bag with our hands for one minute. Now, we added equal amounts of soap to
each bag and again kneaded each bag for one minute. We let the mixture stand for five minute.
Next, we placed a coffee filter on each of the two beakers. Carefully, we poured the mixture into
the coffee filters being sure not to drop any of the mixture directly into the beaker. After, we
poured equal amounts of rubbing alcohol into the mixture and let stand for five minutes. The DNA
will form in each beaker as it is filtered down through the coffee

How Did Charles Perkins Impact Australian Society
Charles Perkins played an extremely significant role in the struggle for rights and freedom of
Aboriginal people. He was born in 1936 and was an Australian Aboriginal activist, the first
Australian Aboriginal to graduate from university, and he also led the freedom ride in 1965. He
was a manager of the Foundation for Aboriginal Affairs, an organisation that took a key role in
getting a Yes vote for the 1967 referendum regarding Aboriginal rights. His controversial actions
allowed him to successfully reduce discrimination against aboriginals. He has also exposed the
discrimination and segregation that existed in Australian society, he then tried to educate the
Australian society to reduce racial discrimination and get greater equality or indigenous Australians.
Perkins was later elected as the deputy chairperson of the Australiaand Torres straight islander
commission.

The Pueblo Revolt Of 1680
From an evangelical standpoint, the 20,000 Native American Christian converts by 1675 and the
establishment of 36 churches in a new land is progress for the church. However, from a native
perspective, conversion may be seen as a submissive last resort and sad desertion of traditional,
shamanistic beliefs. Priests often destroyed idolatrous statues/buildings that can be viewed as
testaments to years of cultural development of a belief system. (Also, in addition to conversion,
they had to become Spaniard by culture (dress, language, etc.) and therefore give up their native
identity. The Pueblo revolt of 1680 caused major setbacks for the Spanish empire in Mexico,
counteracting years of progress and wasted money and resources. However,

A Comparison Of Patrice Lumumba s Assassination
Despite what some people may believe, assassination is not synonymous with murder. Sure, both
are similar, but they are also very different. For instance, assassination is the act of killing an
important person for political reasons while murder is the killing of an average person for any
reason. Also, assassination has only happened to important political figures, such as Abraham
Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, and John F. Kennedy. Another important person who was
assassinated was Patrice Lumumba. He was an important historical figure who was possibly either
killed by troops who were loyal to Colonel Mobutu or the CIA. Born in the small village of
Onalua in Kasai province on July 2, 1925, Patrice Hemery Lumumba was a great man who

Because Lumumba made the decision to raise the pay of all government employees except for the
army, many units of the army objected and multiple rebellions spread throughout the country,
causing nationwide panic. For political reasons, Lumumba had to seek help from the Soviet, which
alarmed several countries and made them think that he was a communist. Because of this, he was
in deep trouble. Around September, 1961, Lumumba was dismissed from the government by
President Kasa Vubu. Furious, he retaliated by declaring the president deposed. As to be expected,
this did not go well with Colonel Joseph Mobutu, and so on the 14th of September, the colonel
incapacitated both Lumumba and Kasa Vubu. Despite being put under house arrest, Lumumba
snuck out to Stanleyville but was caught by Colonel Joseph Mobutu s troops. Then, around
January, after being beaten repeatedly, he was driven to the secessionist regime in Katanga and was
killed, however, no one is certain who was responsible for this, but theories suggest that it was the
CIA or the Katanga authorities that killed him because of his involvements with the Soviet

Should Women Be Required For Military Draft
Should women be required to register for the draft.
A draft is compulsory recruitment for military service. The draft was meant for young men only
but, since women want the same right as men, the questions is should they register for draft? In
my own opinion, I don t think women should register for the draft. They shouldn t because, they
have to take care of the kids, they are not as strong as men physically and the enemy will target
them the most. My first reason they should not is, they have to take care of the kids back. If
women are register and war breaks out when just had a baby, that means both the man woman has to
go to war and there won t be anyone to take care of the kid. Every kids need adult to take of them,

Washkansky s Transplantation Case Study
At 12:50 am on Sunday, December 3rd, 1967, Washkansky was taken into the operating room,
anaesthetised and ready to be prepped for transplantation by Christiaan Barnard. Barnard made an
incision, opened Washkansky chest, and began inserting cannulas (a thin tube inserted into a vein
or body cavity to administer medicine, drain off fluid, or insert a surgical instrument) which are
necessary for the heartlung machine.
Meanwhile, Denise Darvall was in another operating room being prepped for transplant by
Marius Barnard. She had an artificial respirator to help her breathe and to keep her alive. At 2:20
am, a message was sent to Marius that Washkansky was ready for the operation and Marius then
switched off Denise s artificial respirator. Twelve minutes later, Denise Darvall s heart stopped
As soon as Darvall s heart stopped, the surgical team made an incision, opened up her chest and
connected her to a heart lung machine. This cooled her blood to preserve her organs. Christiaan
Barnard then cut through the major vessels of Denise s heart, removed it, and placed the
immaculate organ into a sterile dish that was filled with cold preserving solution at 10 degrees
centigrade. Next, the heart was carried next door, where Louis Washkansky was prepped and ready.

The Help Accuracy
The movie The Help shows the lifestyle of black women in Jackson, Mississippi in the early
1960 s. A young adult named Skeeter who wished to become a journalist gathers maids to write
about their testimonies as black maids, which at first refused because of the fear of getting caught
yet later agree. The setting of the movie is historically inaccurate because it didn t go into detail
about the civil rights movement and all the things that occurred during this time, which was an
important time in history. As well as the Jim Crow Laws, the movie also never spoke about what
white people would do to those who were colored for example beating them to death. The civil right
movement was an attempt to eliminate segregation and gain equal rights.... Show more content on

Medgar was the target of many threats. He was murdered June 12 1963 by Byron De La
Beckwith, who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a couple hours after president Kennedy s
speech on the support of the civil rights movement (NAACP). In the movie the maids and
everyone in Jackson were in fear. In actuality the black community including maids participated
in marches and protests towards the justice of MedgaEvers (Truthout). The movie is also
accurate because it includes the relationship between Minny and Celia which demonstrates that
not every white person was against blacks in reality there was also whites who joined blacks in
strikes to fight for civil rights. The bond between them is what sends the message of not all
whites disliking blacks because Celia, aside from Skeeter, is the only female the treats the her
maid as her close friend. An assumption of the film is that the character Skeeter is suppose to
resemble the author, Kathryn Stockett, by adding parts of her life into Skeeter s character. Another
common thing is that in the film Skeeter has trouble trying to collect a story that is worth
publishing while Stockett had trouble publishing the book and received sixty rejections before
publishing the book. According to abc news, the inspiration of story behind The Help Stockett said
in an interview was by a maid that her grandmother had that used to make her special and
important. Contrasting both to their lives Skeeter also had a special bond to the maid, Constantine,

The Empire Strikes Back
I am currently a Film Production MFA student at Full Sail University. As a child I went to see
The Empire Strikes Back when it was first released. I was in such awe of the film that I knew I
wanted to make movies myself. Irvin Kirschner s name became more important to me as I got
older. He once said, I want films to haunt an audience, to give them something to remember and be
able to talk about. It is with this intention that I want to create films.
As my knowledge of filmmaking started to grow, I began learning about story plots and
character development. Sam Mendes reboot of Ian Fleming s James Bond franchise in my eyes
was one of the best story plot developments. Sam Mendes was able to give the James Bond
franchise what it had been missing: a plot. From Casino Royal, Mendes started to breathe new life

biography of Malcom X, and I would explore that world where Alex Haley was an informant of
the FBI. I would shoot this movie as a docudrama, playing with not only colors, but also shooting

this generation would ever realize, and I would bridge that gap through a new film

Statement For Sop For Electronics
Today, the world is dominated by the field of electronics. Innovative ideas are coming into
existence in our day to day life. Electronics plays a key role in the organization of any system
under consideration. This trait of electronics extends into a broader scope. Thus, pursuing a career
in the electronics field is my goal. Thus, Masters in Electrical Engineeringwith Electronicsas the

My interest in Electronics sprouted from my childhood days. When I was five, I always had the
habit of breaking remote cars and planes, and explore what is actually present inside. Governing
the operations of the car or television by a remote from a distance was an enigmatic concept to
visualize at that stage. So, what actually constitutes the design of the remote was a question that
always been pondering my mind. It is the small electronic design that controls the entire operation.
Thus this habit went on up to the extent that , I developed the hobby of breaking all the worn out
gadgets and goods such as laptop chargers, cell phones etc. and have a collection of electronic
design present in those gadgets.

The Slice of a Knife He didn t look that dead. Apart from the river of blood rushing out the

We could read above how the globalization of the pop industry influences the world, the young

The Italian Renaissance And The Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance was an explosion of art, writing, and thought, that roughly lasted between
1300 to 1600. In this time each citizen, countrymen, or villager had and performed different jobs
and careers. Humanism the study of Greek and Roman writings, art, and architecture, initially jump
started the Renaissance, and the need for art. Artists now were inspired to use life like art and
linear perspective, so art seemed and was more realistic. The start of the Italian Renaissance was
the start of a new world and culture for Europe.
During the Italian Renaissance the citizens and people of Italy were just now changing their
mindsets on life. There was a celebration of life and the human spirit by survivors of the Bubonic
Plague ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the Italian artists and scholars pulled inspiration from the Roman ruins that surrounded them.
Second, western scholars studied ancient Latin writings and manuscripts that over the years were
preserved in monasteries. Third, when the Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453, Christian
scholars fled with Greek manuscripts to Rome.
This new study of the ancient world led to humanism. Humanism was an intellectual movement that
focused on human achievements and potential. Humanists studied the classic texts to understand
ancient Greek values. The word humanist and humanism come from the Latin word humanitas,
which refers to the literary culture that every educated person should possess. Humanists study
subjects common to classical education; such as history, literature, and philosophy along with
rhetoric. These subjects are considered the Humanities. These classical traditions were passed on by
humanists to artists and architects.
The advantage that Italy had was the smaller city states. The smaller city states allowed more
citizens to be involved in politics besides the arts. Humanism suggested that a person can enjoy life
without offending God. The wealthy enjoyed good music, fine foods, and material luxuries. Now
the spirit of the Renaissance was secular meaning worldly. Italians were concerned with the here
and now and moved away from the church and pope. But along with the Italians the church leaders

Sophie Kinsella
Shopping beats therapy, any time. It costs the same and you get a dress out of it. Rebecca Brandon
(NГ©e Bloomwood). Does Kinsella s main character s thought portray a 21st century independent
woman? Does this thought describe women as materialistic shallows? Or is it the evidence of the
present day capitalist paradigm? There are clearly confronted positions in the chick lit ground,
divided between those who expect this genre to reflect the feminist concept of an independent
woman; and those who claim it to reveal the reality of women grappling with modern world. You

law character, to Becky. In other words, Becky portrays an image of a sassy and klutzy, high
spirited and dramatic, independent and romantic family lover woman. On top of that, she
struggles to balance her fluctuating financial situation due to her addiction to shopping. Becky s
character differs from that of the fierce, unsentimental, practical, survivor like heroine Katniss
Everdeen, from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Katniss character reflects the image of
an efficient woman, while in Becky s character positive and negative features fuse together to
mirror the complete picture of a present day woman. Sophie Kinsella justifies her view of women
when she says: I think it s more realistic to represent a woman having all these facets, than say,

Aretha Franklin, I Say a Little Prayer Aretha Franklin was the reigning queen of R B/Soul

she was developing her talent and music it started to focus on gender differences, and sexual

Crown Lengthening Research Paper
What is Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is a common oral surgery performed by a periodontist. The procedure involves
the removal of gum tissue, bone, or both to expose more of the patient s teeth. Reasons for Crown
Lengthening
Crown lengthening may be done to restore damaged teeth, insert a dental crown, or for cosmetic
reasons. Teeth that are severely damaged due to tooth decay, trauma or periodontal disease may
need to undergo crown lengthening if the tooth is broken under the gum or there is not enough
tooth surface to properly restore the tooth.
Dental crowns are used to cover, protect, and strengthen damaged teeth. If the crown does not fit
properly it can irritate the gums and cause chronic inflammation. Crown lengthening creates ...

Afterward an appointment will be scheduled. If your tooth requires a crown a temporary one will
be put in place before the surgery. This allows the periodontist to see how much tissue will need to
be removed before the permanent crown is put in place.
Crown lengthening is a common procedure and can be performed in our office under general
anesthesia or sedation. The length of the surgery depends on how many teeth are involved and if
soft tissue and/or bone has to be removed. The periodontist will make small cuts in the gums to
expose the roots of the tooth. Then the necessary amount of gum and/or bone will be removed.
Once the periodontist is satisfied, the area will be rinsed with a saltwater solution and the gums
will be stitched in place. If you had a temporary crown it will be put back in place once the surgery
is done.
You should not eat anything until the anesthesia has worn off to prevent damage to your mouth,

Social Simulation Applies Computational Methods Essay
Social simulation applies computational methods to study issues in the social sciences, such as
sociology, political science, economics, anthropology, geography, archeology and linguistics
(Takahashi et al., 2007). There are a number of benefits in assessing social impacts by
simulation, including: (1) a robust tool to support governments, industries and communities to
prepare and plan for the future, manage risks and harness opportunities (Greiner et al., 2014); (2)
allows the creation of artificial societies, systems where basic social structures and group
behaviors emerge from the interaction between individual agents, in artificial environments,
based on limited information and computational ability (Zimbres and Oliviera, 2009); (3) allows
the study of the effect of different combinations of social, technical and natural characteristics of
systems at various time scales (Raptis et al., 2013); (4) can be utilized to predict the effect of a
variety of social factors on the emergence and evolution of social norms (Chen et al., 2012); (5)
models can identify the complexity through modeling the interaction of autonomous factors and
deducing the rules for such a systems (Galland et al., 2014); (6) methods can effectively analyze
the non linear qualities of dynamic human interaction among the individuals in a community

Analysis Of Literary Modernism
Literary modernism was a reaction against realism which was developed to depict real rural life
(Campbell, 2017). As people begun to relocate to city areas many writers and artist took to
redefining the meaning of a realistic life. It was believed that one way of life no longer fit for
everyone and modernismintroduced literature and art that began to question and show various
perspectives of life. Peter Childs explains that modernist writing plunges the reader into confusing
and difficult mental landscape which cannot be immediately understood... (Childs 15). Uncommon

As there was a rapid change in normal modernist literature searched for new realities and
discerned what was unreal within them. The novel Passing serves as an example that
encompasses and illustrates what Childs refers to as the modernist creation of the tradition of
the new . Nella Larsen s Passing was published in 1929, it was narrated by Irene Redfield as she
reunites with a childhood acquaintance that is African American but passes as a white woman
in all areas of her life. Clare, Irene s acquaintance, who passes as white explores the uncertainty
of reality as she steps into the lifestyles of an African American during the Harlem Renaissance,
and Irene also explores her own uncertainty. Though many critics have stated that race in the
novel is mainly to serve as a source of suspense. I agree with Jennifer Brody the author of Clare
Kendry s True Colors, that race is the forefront issue within the story and it is related to issues of
class and sexuality (1). Passing erupted a fascination of the realities of passing characters both in
black and white characters. Revealing the interest of ambiguity that many African Americans faced
during this time period. The author of Nella Larsen s biography argues that the main characters are
not completely opposite but are especially meant to be developed as complex and

Fall of the Qing Dynasty
The fall of the Qing dynasty was caused by internal changes within the dynasty, peasant revolts, the
rise of Sun Yat Sen and overall western influence.
What happens when there is a trade imbalance between two major trading countries? Just ask
Great Britain and China. It s hard to get by when the country you need goods from does not really
need to trade goods with you. This is what happened with Great Britain and the Qing Dynasty.
There was a high demand for China s tea in Great Britain but a low demand for Britain s goods in
China. Great Britain was in debt with China and they had to do something to get out. As a result,
they turned to selling silver to make the imbalance better. China could care less about Great Britain

Democracy meant rule by parliament and constitution, and the People s Livelihood made it so
that the land and other resources should benefit the people and not fatten the ruling classes
(McLenighan 34). Things were looking good for Sun Yat Sen when Empress Dowager Ci Xi
died. The next and last emperor of China would be the 3 year old Henry Pu Yi. Sun Yat Sen and
company took advantage of this very quickly. In early 1912, the Qing regents signed a document
giving up the throne in Pu Yi s name, leaving Sun Yat Sen as president of a Republican. That was
the end of the Qing Dynasty. Unfortunately for Sun Yat Sen he was only President for four years
because the people of China weren t agreeing with all of his views. He was replaced by Yuan
Shikai. After Yuan Shikai s death China began to fall apart so Sun Yat Sen never lived to see his
ideas of The Three People s Principles become a reality. He died of cancer in 1925. The last 100
years of China was nothing but problems. Rebellion, wars and civil wars, pressure from foreigners,
and foreign immigrants spreading their ideas and cultures throughout China. China let the
foreigners get by with too much and the foreigners took advantage of China s weaknesses. The
dynasty got weaker and weaker as timed progressed but China did not go down without a fight.

How Does Vonnegut Use Satire In The Space Race
I choose the Space Race for my historical topic and I believe that it connects to Harrison Bergeron
because the short story shows how fast we are developing in technology. The fact that Vonnegut
thought of this in 1961 is amazing. Vonnegut uses satire in the piece by emphasizing the fact of
just because we can doesn t mean we should, making everyone equal would be possible but we
shouldn t do it. With the Space Race at the time it shows how we are developing at a fast pace and
the short story shows that if everyone was equal advancements would stop without the smart minds
in the world we would go nowhere. The overall outcome of the short story, by outcome I mean the

  • 2. Investigating The Effect Of Temperature On Enzyme Activity INTRODUCTION Aim: To investigate how temperature affect enzyme activity. Background information: Enzymes are globular proteins (see figure 1) that can be found in all the living cells. They can be used as biological catalysts by lowering the energy that the chemical reaction requires to occur. Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions and this property is known as enzyme substrate specificity. Living organisms can produce many different enzymes. In order to further explain enzyme substrate specificity, a basic knowledge about active sites on enzymes is required. An active site is where substrates can be bind to the enzymes and where the biochemical reactions are catalyzed. Active sites can be found on all enzymes. They are on the surface of enzymes and once the substrate fits into the active site successfully the biochemical reaction is catalyzed. After the products are released from the active site, the enzyme can be used again. As has been said above Certain enzymes only catalyze certain biochemical reactions . However, some enzymes can catalyze more than one biochemical reaction. This happens when the substrate is closed to the enzyme, and the enzyme changes the shape of the active site to fit the substrate. Figure 1(the shape of enzymes) Enzymes only work within certain temperature and pH ranges as they can be denatured at certain temperatures and pHs. When the enzyme is denatured, the shape of the active site on the enzyme will change. Once ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Dojo Observation The dojo I visited is the dojo Buena Park known as Chushinkan Dojo which is taught by Nakayama Sensei. I visited the dojo on Thursday, November 12, 2015. I did have general observations of the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not experienced before. There was a technique I found interesting. There was not much a difference in learning from CSUF and the dojo. The most interesting part of my visit was watching students test. I had general observations about the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. The dojo did not have its own property and was inside a community center, this was something I did not expect. In this Aikido course in CSUF, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some students did better than others which is usual for testings. In the Aikido course I remember when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it. I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals are serious with Aikido. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not experienced before. I admire how Aikido is usually done not for profit but for sharing Aikido with others, which is seen when the dojo is in a community center. The dojo visit was actually an interesting experience ... • 4. Organic Chemistry Running head: Organic Chemistry Tamanna Ashraf Palm Beach State College Principle of Chemistry Ceravolo, Joseph MW 11:00am 12:15pm February 6th, 2011 We all are living in a science world. Everything has some kind of reaction going on in our living area. It is just we do not get to see or realize that where n how we having our life much easier than it used to be. In these writing assignments, the topic is about the organic chemistry. In organic chemistry, we all have different kinds of compounds. In addition, alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes are the parts of the organic and inorganic compounds. We also can learn about the structural formula they all have in different form. Polymerization is another type of chemical reaction that we get to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Above n=17 they are solids at room temperature. Although alkanes with higher values of n are found in diesel fuel, fuel oil, petroleum jelly, motor oils. The fossil fuel resource from which we obtain the alkanes is much valuable to burn it all as a motor fuel. Alkanes derivatives are used in hundreds of products such as plastics, paints, drugs, cosmetics, detergent, etc. (R, N. n.d.). Alkenes are an unsaturated chemical compound containing at least one carbon to carbon double bond. The simple alkenes have only one double bond and no other functional groups. For example, (C=C). The boiling points of each alkene are very similar to that of the alkane with the same number of carbon atoms. In this case, the alkenes have a boiling point which is a small number of degrees lower than the alkane. Each alkene has 2 fewer electrons than the alkane with the same number of carbons. (Clark, J. 2003). Hydrocarbons that contain carbon carbon triple bonds. The triple bond adds two elements of unsaturation. For example, (Cп‚єC). They are insoluble in water. In addition, their boiling points show the usual increase with increasing carbon number. The unsaturated nature of alkynes means that most of their reactions will be similar to those of alkenes. The difference between these groups is in the bond types between carbons. Alkanes form only single bonds, alkenes form double bonds, and in alkynes, there is one triple bond. The structural formulas for each of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Roles Of Women In The 1800s Essay Roles of Women in the late 1800sAround the late 1800s, the roles of women were different than todays. Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godey s Lady s book, characterized women as one who was timid and delicate, demanded protection, and possessed a sweet dependency. Men were symbolized as aggressive, materialistic, and competitive; therefore, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From 1870 till 1900, the number of wage earning women flourish by relatively 70 percent. Beliefs about the womanhood decided which woman could enter the work field. In 1890, nearly 5 percent of married white women, in the neighborhood of 41 percent single women, and around 30 percent of African American women worked outside the homes. Women often worked as domestic servants, doing the jobs of nursing, office work, teaching, and sales. By the mid 1870s, states in the North passed the Married Women Property Act, which allowed married women to own and control property in their own right. In some states, the law varied widely; however, this epitomized the transfer of property rights and made improvements to the status of American married women. Teachers from the North were selected to educate former slaves. In 1869, over 9 thousand teachers were initiated to instruct former slaves. Over half a million African Americans, ranging from all ages, were inducted in elementary schools. Before the Civil War, it was impossible for most southern black females to receive an ... Literacy Definition Essay The standardized definition of literacy has always been the ability to read and write, but the cultural definition of literacy has always managed to change its shape based on the socioeconomic state of a community. A child is first raised by their community and through such connection they are molded by their community s standards of life. A community, whether it is rich or poor, holds the ability to create/shape its own perception of literacyand therefor place a value on the importance of it. If education is only expressed in an institutional form, a child will clearly feel a disconnect between what they have learned at home and what has been taught in the classroom. The dog is a live free thinking being that has limited room to roam because it is always on a leash. Sometimes the leash might get loose and allow the dog to roam further, but the fact that the dog is on a leash does not change. The question then arises, what if the dog breaks free? What if the dog steals away in the middle of the night and runaways into the woods? This new found freedom is exciting and thrilling at first, but sooner rather than later the dog realizes it does not know how to survive on its own. That being said, the great thing about a young dog is that, it can still learn new tricks. College is a completely new territory where writing prompts are extremely vague and your paper is what you decide. This new found freedom is strange and with less restrictions I find myself exploring forms of literacy that utilize both standardized and cultural reading and writing. The standardized definition of literacy is set by the ruling political power and it describes what politicians imagine the country should be, completely disregarding the melting pot we have become. The cultural definition of literacy reflects the true state of our country and it depicts a multitude of children s standards of living. When you combine the two you gain new developments in the world of literacy and you annihilate the single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991 interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example, are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly stated. From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is when the song is said to have been written. Symbolism and Sexism in Ibsen’s “a Doll’s House” Essays ENGL 2337 April 15, 2010 Symbolism and Sexism in Ibsen s A Doll s House Henrik Ibsen, the author of the controversial play A Doll s House said, There are two kinds of moral laws, two kinds of conscience, one for men and one, quite different, for women. They don t understand each other; but in practical life, woman is judged by masculine law, as though she weren t a woman but a man...A woman cannot be herself in modern society. Since Nora s father was dying, she was forced to forge his signature in order to secure a loan that would eventually save her husband s life, which only led to more problems in the future because in order for her to be able to repay the money she must lie about how she spends her household accounts and also lie about taking odd jobs to earn extra money. Also, the way Torvald treats Nora in the play depicts the way women were treated in the nineteenth century. For example, In Act I, Nora is little more than a child playing a role. She is a doll occupying a doll s house, a child who has exchanged a father for a husband without changing or maturing in any way. Torvald treats his wife literally like a doll, calling her pet names and occasionally scolding her as if she were a child. His primary interests are his new job as a bank manager and his social standing. When he learns that his wife is involved in a legal problem that would embarrass him if it became known to the public, he reveals who he really is. He comes off as a hypocrite preoccupied with his own welfare. Also, Torvald says that Nora is now his property which is when Nora realizes she is much too good for him. Nora then decides to leave because they have been married for eight years and has suffered enough injustice from both her father and Torvald. Nora explains to Torvald that she has been merry, not happy, being with him. She explained to him how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Negative Effects Of Technology And Social Media Technology and social media in today s world are evolving tremendously. When stepping outside into the streets, a rare count of faces appear to be looking up. Instead those faces are being shoved into their phones. These two objects are becoming so intriguing, that many lose sight of the beautiful city or town they are currently roaming through. Today people rely solely on technology instead of interacting face to face. It is destroying the interaction between people communicating in person. Communicating and connecting in person is a vital source all over the world, without it people will become lost, the use of technology and social mediashould be limited. Many believe social media is the answer to almost all problems happening in their lives. Feeling sad? Easiest way to fix that is to watch funny videos on YouTube or play Pandora music. Bored? Candy crush or Imessage games on the iPhone is the got to. Interested in seeing what friends or family members are up to? Just check Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter. Many believe that each application that is available for download are great and essential for having a phone. When it comes to texting or calling, according to the essay No Need to Call , Sherry Turkle makes it well known that people today would rather text than call and talk over the phone or in person. Not only do people say that a phone call asks too much, they worry it will be received as demanding too much (Turkle 375). They believe that talking over the phone is a big burden to others, so they rather email or send a text message so that others can reply on their own time. The use of technology and social media, helps to find valuable information easy. There is no waiting on a letter, telegram, or tuning into the radio at a certain time of the day. It is as simple as logging onto a computer or telephone, and accessing the internet browser to complete a Google, Yahoo, or Bing search. The answer for majority of the questions will show up immediately. In the essay Small Change; Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted it discusses an entrepreneur who needed a bone marrow transplant. • 12. Rhetorical Devices Used In A Change To Come By Gcse Sam Cooke, A Change is Gonna Come Heralded by many as the anthem to the Civil Rights Movement, A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke was and still is one of the most influential songs of all time. The song was originally released in 1964 on the album Ain t That Good News , but was released again as a single eleven days after Sam Cooke s untimely death on the 11th of December, 1964. There is no other social movement so effected by pop culture in the last century than the black Civil Rights Movement in America during the 1960s. The music at the time had political motivation and yet it was still enjoyed widely as pop music. Sam Cooke was one of the few African American artists of his generation to successfully crossover and reach both a white and black audience. He sings; I go to the movie and I go down town/Somebody keep telling me don t hang around , referring, of course, to the incident in the Louisiana. The middle eight, which reads; Then I go to my brother / And I say, Brother, help me please. / But he winds up knockin me / Back down on my knees. , is a phrase highlighting the aggression the movement received from the police force during their marches. The very people meant to protect and serve ended up being one of the biggest obstacles to overcome during the notorious peace walks. Despite the air of anguish throughout, it is a song of hope. The famed lyrics; It s been a long, a long time coming / But I know a change gon come , that appear at the end of every verse, are the bones on which the whole song is built. • 13. What Is The Central Idea Of The Wife s Story The central idea of the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula Le Guin, is a wolf who finds out she is the wife of a werewolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). This quote shows the wife finding out about her husband s curse, which is the central idea. The character vs. character conflict of the family finding out about the husband and the character vs. self conflict of the husband changing into a human and or wolf helps develop the central idea because, without these conflicts there would be no story. In the short story, The Wife s Story, by Ursula LeGuin, there are many different forms of conflict. Some examples of those are, character vs. character when the family finds out about the husband being a werewolf, and character vs. self with the husband dealing with him being a werewolf and changing between man and wolf. To support this the author states, I saw him, I had to see him, my own dear love, turned into the hateful one (LeGuin 7, lines 95 96). But what we take for granted today was only a vague idea fifty years ago. In order to understand how we got this far Let s go back to 1957, when everything began. Before 1957 computers only worked on one task at a time. This is called batch processing. Of course, this was quite ineffective. With computers getting bigger and bigger they had to be stored in special cooled rooms. But then the developers couldn t work directly on the computers anymore specialists had to be called in to connect them. Programming at that time meant a lot of manual work and the indirect connection to the computers led to a lot of bugs, wasting time and fraying the developersВґ nerves. The year 1957 marked a big change. A remote connection had to be installed so the developers could work directly on the computers. At the same time the idea of time sharing came up. This is the first concept in computer technology to share the processing power of one computer with multiple users. On October 4th 1957, during the Cold War The first unmanned satellite, Sputnik 1, was sent into orbit by the Soviet Union. The fear of a Missile Gap emerged. There are multiple examples throughout this entire play that displays a dark cloud that follows Hamletaround. Unfortunately, these bad things just continue to happen to Hamlet and around him. The Ghost poses as a helpful character, in the beginning, showing Hamlet what really happened, but he actually just wanted to take revenge on the person who killed him. The Ghost enters into the story in the figure of Hamlet s recently deceased father to Marcellus and Bernardo, the two guards in the tower. They immediately report this sighting to Horatio to witness the sighting of the Ghost. For example unity, throughout the piece I felt that there was a strong backbone section which kept the piece feeling familiar. Even when there would be seemingly unrelated ideas thrown in, I always felt that it was taken back to familiar ideas. Having said that there was definitely a lot of variety in the piece. There were several ideas throughout, which sometime would come back in a pattern while others would only make an appearance once. There was also a lot of variety in the volume or dynamic of the piece which gave a nice variety to it. Additionally several different instruments were used which gave several different timbres. The tempo also varied a lot within the piece. Going from fast to slow and vice versa, and with different accelerations which gave it a nice feel. The overall rhythm of the piece was nice and polyphonic. This piece was made in the classical era of art (2). The chromosomes are thread like structures located inside the nucleus of plant cells and are up of protein and a single molecule of DNA. An apple contains 34 chromosomes and a banana contains 22 chromosomes. The purpose of this experiment was to see if the number of chromosomes effect the amount of DNA in an apple and a banana. DNA is extracted from the apple and banana. The type of fruitwas the only thing not changed in the experiment making it the independent variable. A young adult named Skeeter who wished to become a journalist gathers maids to write about their testimonies as black maids, which at first refused because of the fear of getting caught yet later agree. The setting of the movie is historically inaccurate because it didn t go into detail about the civil rights movement and all the things that occurred during this time, which was an important time in history. As well as the Jim Crow Laws, the movie also never spoke about what white people would do to those who were colored for example beating them to death. He was murdered June 12 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith, who was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, a couple hours after president Kennedy s speech on the support of the civil rights movement (NAACP). In the movie the maids and everyone in Jackson were in fear. In actuality the black community including maids participated in marches and protests towards the justice of MedgaEvers (Truthout). The movie is also accurate because it includes the relationship between Minny and Celia which demonstrates that not every white person was against blacks in reality there was also whites who joined blacks in strikes to fight for civil rights. The bond between them is what sends the message of not all whites disliking blacks because Celia, aside from Skeeter, is the only female the treats the her maid as her close friend. Apart from the river of blood rushing out the gaping neck wound, he looked pretty much the same as he did a few minutes before. His hand was still clasped around his bottle of beer and face was still frozen in a permanent gaze of boredom. The only thing different about James s face was the single tear that rolled down his cheek and hung on the cliff of his chin amongst his stubble. As it fell from his face, his body smashed forward into the wooden table. And in that moment I felt completely alone. James was the only reason I was there with the oudious group of so called friends . Only a few moments before we had been having a wonderful time, drinking wine out of chipped coffee mugs and reminiscing about the good old days . Then in a beat of a heart, the lights gave out. Exploded glass cascaded from the ceiling and the sudden fright caused everyone to panic. There were a few minutes of clattering in the murky darkness before Bill switched his massive solar powered lamp he (ever so conveniently) had with him. So typical of Bill, why had he even brought a lamp in the first place, particularly a solar powered one. He had also carried an excessive amount of electronic devices that he immediately proceeded to plug in as soon as he got the chance, perhaps thats why the power gave out.
