Sex Discrimination And Discrimination
Kyle Eagleston
Professor Brogan
PE 100
12/10/2017
Title IX People are constantly making mistakes and avoiding certain responsibilities. Mainly minor
responsibilities can be avoided and unanswered, but major ones need to be questioned and brought to
attention in order for them to be dealt with. Sex discrimination is one of those mistakes that people are
constantly making. It isn t happening as much as it used to in the past, but it is still occurring in our
education system, employment, housing, and even in something as small as credit. There are large
episodes in past time that we are able to track down and see examples of sex discrimination towards
females, especially in education. From as early as birth, women are being discriminated against just
because they are supposedly inferior to men. This was all put to a stop when Title IX was formed.
Title IX s main objective is to protect people from discrimination based on sex in education programs
or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. The motto that we follow is No person in the
United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or
be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial
assistance . Title IX was passed as a law by Richard Nixon in 1972, and was created within the
Education Amendments by Congress. It also consisted of two benefactors, Birch Bayh from the
Senate, and Edith Green from the House

Legalizing The Death With Dignity Act
The story of Brittany Maynard continues to sweep the nation and has sparked a highly controversial
debate concerning the legality and ethicality of assisting in one s death. When twenty nine year old
Maynard was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and given less than six months to live, she made the
difficult decision to pick up and move to Portland, Oregon. Oregon exists as one of only four states
that have legalized assisted suicide (Egan 60 64). In Oregon, she legally ended her battle with cancer
in a dignified manner (Egan 60 64). The American Heritage Dictionary defines euthanasia as, the
action of inducing the painless death of a person for reasons assumed to be merciful (Morris 453).
There are more people than just Maynard who are strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the first year the death with dignity act went into effect in Oregon, just fifteen people ended
their life through the process of euthanasia. In 1997, a group of people rallied to undermine the death
with dignity act with a statute called measure fifty one but the citizens of Oregon rejected the measure
proving that the men and women of Oregon demand this right and want the death with dignity act to
stay in place ( Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia Timeline ). Sixty one physicians wrote prescriptions
for lethal doses of medication in Oregon in the year 2012 for the purpose of euthanasia, displaying the
willingness of experienced medical professionals to assist patients in dying with dignity ( Prescription
for Suicide 1). Washington became the second state to legalize assisted suicide in November of 2008,
and Montana followed suit on January second, 2010. Finally, Vermont legalized assisted suicide in
May of 2013, becoming the fourth and final state to emulate support for death with dignity. The
precise reason that more states do not make dying with dignity a legal option is complicated, but one
factor that does contribute to the rejection of assisted suicide legislation is the concerns about the
safety and ethicality of euthanasia ( Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia Timeline ). The reality of these
concerns is that the regulations regarding assisted suicide are proving to work impeccably as noted by

Obama s Leadership During the Hurricane Sandy Disaster
Hurricane Sandy is probably one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent human history.
This is no exaggeration, as implied by its status as superstorm and its tongue in cheek nomination as
Frankenstorm. And indeed, there has been a significant scale of damage to property and in some cases
even to life itself. As the President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama took it
upon himself to personally visit the states that were hardest hit, and to offer support where he could.
This in itself may not be extremely unusual for a current president. However, Obama took time out of
a very busy election campaign, which he was by no means certain of winning, to lend both personal,
emotional, and financial support before, during, and after the storm. Before the storm, the President
set aside his drive to win the election to fulfill his duties as current president, in his own words, to
save lives. (Fisher, 2012). For the President, this meant acting as crisis manager and disaster official
by putting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on alert, ensuring that food and
water provisions were in place, and speaking with all the governors of the affected states to ensure that
they had measures in place to help and support their citizens through the crisis. He also had the
difficult task of ensuring that the country set its political differences aside at a time when these
differences were at the forefront of every consciousness in the country.

Animals Are Dogs And Cats
Most people are families with domesticated animals as pets. The most common pets are dogs and cats.
However, some people want to own exotic animals instead of normal animals. They pick what they
want, but they actually don t pay attention to an outcome later. There have three outcomes that people
should not own exotic animals which are bad for animals, bad for owners, and bad for environment. In
the Steps to Writing Well textbook by Jean Wyrick, there has an article that supports people who adopt
wild animals and the name is Zuana Kukol s Opposing View: Let People Own Exotic Animals. Based
on that, the author gives a message that people should be allowed to adopt any animals because it
helps animals stay away from extinction, everybody should have freedom to pick any species of wild,
and exotic animals have low numbers of harmful per year. This is also a way to eliminate extinction
because exotic animals are captive animals, so they will be backup when animals go extinct.
Moreover, the article shows the record of fatalities per year by captive animals only around four
people per year. Meanwhile, traffic accidents are around one hundred per day. The writer also supports
with emphasis sentences at the end on why people have the freedom to pick their favorite car but not
animals. To sum up, the author writes this article because of supporting people who want to own
exotic animals as pets. First of all, owning wild animals as pets is a bad decision for animals life later

Ida B. Wells Essays
Ida B. Wells was a woman dedicated to a cause, a cause to prevent hundreds of thousands of people
from being murdered by lynching. Lynching is defined as to take the law into its own hands and kill
someone in punishment for a crime or a presumed crime. Ida B. Wells amp;#8217; back round made
her a logical spokesperson against lynching. She drew on many experiences throughout her life to aid
in her crusade. Her position as a black woman, however, affected her credibility both in and out of
America in a few different ways.
Her parents nurtured the background of this crusader to make her a great spokesperson. She also held
positions throughout her life that allowed her to learn a lot about lynching. She was ... Show more

Her energetic campaign for truth and justice gave her a lot of attention to fuel her crusade. All these
factors support the fact that her background made her an ample spokes person for the anti lynching
campaign. Adding to her credibility, personal experiences also gave her more of a drive to continue
her crusade.
She became a leading community activist through a sequence of events. In 1884 Ida was riding a train
in a first class car, when she was asked to move to the smoking car. When she refused, two conductors
tried to physically move her. She instead got off the train and filed a discrimination lawsuit. The
lawsuit was initially won, but the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the verdict. After the train
incident, in 1889, Ida went to The Free Speech paper; this is where her most promising worked
developed. In 1892, three of her friends were brutally killed during a lynching. This one particular
event opened the eyes of Wells and prompted her to write some of her most controversial works yet.
However this type of writing got the Free Speech office ransacked and destroyed. The other owner of
the Free Speech barely escaped with his life, but he carried the message that if Ida were to show her
face ever again in Tennessee she would be killed. Now with all this ammunition based on personal
experience, even as an African American woman, she had gained credibility to be able to speak with

If you are looking for a Boston hotel to stay at then you should read this review of the Lenox Hotel.
The Lenox Hotel is actually one of the nicer hotels in Boston that you can stay at. At the same time,
the Lenox Hotel is also one of the cheaper Boston hotels that you can stay at. The average nightly rate
for staying at the Leon Hotel in Boston is slightly under $200 a night. The Lenox Hotel is also one of
the most conveniently located hotels in Boston. This Boston hotel is located one block away from

I recently stayed at the Denver Warwick hotel for a business meeting and was very pleased with the
entire experience! I will start off and mention the small gripes I have, one of which is how far this
place is from the airport. I suppose that is to be expected since it is in Downtown Denver, and
Colorado is definitely a vast area (this was my first visit out there...) but the $65 ride from the airport
was a sting! The other thing I found to be a little odd was that there was no ATM in the hotel. We
needed cash to be able to pay our car driver back to the airport, and had to go across the street to one
(which ended up being out of service) so that was a little inconvenient, but our driver was kind and
helped us find one nearby. Beyond those two things, the stay at the Warwick was nothing but positive.
I was given a junior suite that was also handicapped accessible, and it was perfect. There was a very
comfortable king bed, a big flat screen TV, a little sitting area upon entering and a desk/office area
with plenty of outlets to plug in electronics! The wireless access was $10 a day, but for a flawless high
speed, connection, it was well worth it The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and very good sized!
Not only was there a roll in shower with a showerhead that could be lowered, but there was also a
bathtub (that was lower than average so it was easier to step in and out of) with yet another

The Future Of Electric Energy
Upon the first discovery of electricity, the subjects of electricity and magnetism would go on to
revolutionize life as we know it. With the rudimentary work completed by the leaders within the field,
such as Benjamin Franklin or Nikola Tesla, these brilliant scientists laid the foundation that would go
on to become arguably one of the most important aspects of our forever changed society. Although we
have learned to incorporate electricity, it has many uses within our lives. Electric energy is at the
forefront of our world s business, engineering, and medical sectors of the workforce. Public
transportation is rapidly getting on the radar for developing new technologies to better serve
consumers. With great emphasis being placed on living more eco friendly lives and the increasing
costs of energy, these more efficient transportation models will change the face of history. One major
point driving this initiative is the pull back of fossil fuel consumption, and the reduction of greenhouse
gases being released into our atmosphere. Both historians and energy experts agree that as society
advances, there is a need for more concentrated, powerful forms of energy, like rocket fuel instead of
gasoline. Electric vehicles are one of these technologies to hit the consumer markets. Companies such
as Toyota and Tesla are beginning to manufacture both hybrid and electric vehicles. Electric cars work
on the basis of expending the energy stored in a battery (or series of batteries) for

Rhodes Must Fall Essay
Introduction
This essay will attempt to give a response of the Rhodes Must Fall writings. It is clear that the rising
of movements like Rhodes Must Fall, has been a result of a wave of philosophies of Fanon and Biko
who share a highly similar pedigree in their interests in the philosophical psychology of consciousness
and desire for a decolonising of the mind (). Their ideologies have the interest of young South
Africans. The essay will be done by looking into how the movement wants the university to be
decolonised, the statue of Rhodes, alienation the students are experiencing, curriculum change, the
university s lack of cultural space and representation of blacks, racism in the university and
social/systematic exclusion of black students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society
Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless
(Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their fellow
sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska
gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. We are
called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the world we live in.
After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to me the severity of
homelessness in America and how simple it can be to change it. Community First! not only builds tiny
homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives them a community to become
a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First! Village would not only
strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also support the movement to end
homelessness through providing a home and community to a young outcasted individual.
Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has grown
to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the homeless
in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of 19,000
volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has been
building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The village
features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market, movie theater,
and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers come in for
construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now, the village has
housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes continues to house more
people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major cities of the work this
organization has founded and grown. Many of the people living in the village have come from a
variety of lives before moving into the community. Some old, some new, and often have been alone
most of their life.

The Teachings and Influence of Bill Gothard
Introduction:
Influencing hundreds of thousands of people over the span of fifty years, Bill Gothard has become an
icon of Christian counseling in the United States and in the world at large. His work in determining
the basic conflicts in the hearts of people and his devotion to creating a Bible based community and
curriculum for homeschooling families has made him a powerful leader in the realm of Christian
counseling and teaching and has endeared him to many. His counseling style has affected thousands of
preachers and teachers who follow his methods, and so it is important to understand the principles
behind Gothard s doctrines. To fully understand Gothard s teachings, one must first understand the
world of psychological counseling. According to the American Counseling Association, counselors
help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil... In
essence counseling helps people understand their problems and gives them tools to deal with these
issues. Although the goal of counseling remains the same across the board, the beliefs and
presuppositions of individual counselors affect the methods and techniques they implement in their
counseling. For the secular psychological counselor, the focus is ego centric. The goal of counseling is
to give the client a better life and a happier outlook on life so that he can achieve even greater things
for himself. For the Christian, the goal of counseling is to bring the client into a closer

Enlightenment Vs Romantic Era Essay
The Enlightenment, or Age of Reason (1647 1789), and the Romantic Era (1790 1832) were two
contrasting yet consecutive periods in history that consisted of fundamentally opposing works. While
Romantics believed that the Enlightenment era created an oppressed and conformist society,
Enlightenment thinkers regarded the Romantics as naive and too emotional. Although the
Enlightenment and Romantic periods were at odds in distinct ways, both aspired to improve humanity,
liberate the self, and emphasize their unique values through referencing Greek mythology. Both the
Romantics, who loved nature, and the Enlightenment thinkers, who valued rational thought and
moderation, believed their movements would help humanity thrive. In William Wordsworth s ... Show

In Percy Bysshe Shelley s Romantic poem, Ode to the West Wind, the speaker describes, Angels of
rain and lightning: there are spread / On the blue surface of thine aery surge... (20 21). The storm
being described represents the sublime and exudes fear and wonder. By exciting the emotions of pain
and danger, the reader may feel a sense of freedom since she is not restrained by rational thought; an
Enlightenment value, which the Romantic writers despised. In Alexander Pope s Enlightenment poem,
The Rape of the Lock, the speaker declares that The hungry judges soon the sentence sign / And
wretches hang that jurymen may dine (22 23). Pope questions the legal system by using satire and
suggesting that the judges and juries put their own physical needs like hunger, above justice. This
satirical element was common in the Enlightenment, and shows increased individual liberty because
the writer is exercising his right to say whatever he wants in a clever way. By challenging people in
power, Pope is demonstrating how humans have the right to govern their own lives and be free. The
Romantic thinkers believed that liberation of self could be attained through exciting one s emotions
through the sublime, while the Enlightenment thinkers determined this could be achieved through
subverting the social order through

Range Of Motion
Range of motion refers to the full potential movement of a joint. This movement typically comprises
the range of flexion and extension along a particular axis. Limited range of motion is caused by a
decline in a joints ability to move like it should. This is caused by pain, swelling, or stiffness in the
joint area. A goniometer is a tool that is used by therapists to measure the range of motion of a joint in
a client s body. This is done by the therapist placing the center of the goniometer on the joint that is
being evaluated. Next, the therapist aligns the main arm of the goniometer with the trunk of the client
s body while moving the measuring arm with the client s arm or leg as they flex or extend their limb.

I have personally witnessed many times that an occupational therapist used these techniques to assess
their client. Not only does this measurement let the therapist know how much the client is improving
over time, but it can also build confidence in the client by knowing that the work they are putting into
therapy is paying off. Recording a client s range of motion is a good way to keep track of what stage
of the recovery process the client may be in. Many times a client will go to an occupational therapist,
because they cannot complete their full range of motion without experiencing pain or fatigue.
Through my research, I was surprised to see how many different types of tools there are available for
testing range of motion and other therapy related tests. I learned a small amount about a Baseline

of these tools measure the range of motion, they are still fun to learn about. I look forward to learning

No Country for Old Men Research Paper
No Country for Old Men Cormac McCarthy s novel, No Country for Old Men, enlightens the life of
Llewellyn Moss, a welder and Vietnam veteran, who happens to stumble upon several murdered
bodies, a sufficient supply of cocaine, and two million dollars of cartel drug money. Moss decides to
seize the money and consequently sets off a chase for his life against the old hand sheriff Ed Tom Bell

Chigurh s escapade only as a subplot and ultimately conveys a deeper meaning. The novelist heavily
relies on Bell s failure to reconcile his morals of the approach crime used to take years before.

When you think of survival of the fittest, you may be wrong. If you think about it as more of survival
of the best adapted to a species environment. Now this can be used with a few following examples; a
species will not be able to survive if it is the strongest of its kind if the area it lives in is cold. The
specimen with the warm fur coat will outlast the physically strong. Now this can work the other way
as well the specimen with the fur coat may not be able to defend its self from the predators if it is not
the most physically fit specimen. The end result if the species does not adapt to the new surroundings
it will eventually die out and become extinct, leaving the one specimen who has now passed on the fur

Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic
The claim that Odour of Chrysanthemums is a well crafted story is hardly brave or risky, for many
would agree. For instance, the man who in a sense discovered Lawrence, English Review editor F. M.
Ford, said this about Odour of Chrysanthemums :
The very title makes an impact on the mind. You get at once the knowledge that this is not, whatever
else it may turn out, either a frivolous or even a gay springtime story. Chrysanthemums are not only
flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene

This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a
stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out
false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between
husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads
to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the
unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other
stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour
of Chrysanthemums is successful.
Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and
its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its
importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead

The Root Causes Of Mass Immigration In California
The decision to shift into mass production was one that was spurred on my industrialization and a
wider demand for the product. Not only were jeans easier to make in the factory, they were created
more efficiently and in bigger volumes. With the wave of mass immigration, came a significantly
larger working class who all needed work wear that could withstand the job s demands. Ultimately the
decision to mass produce was an economic and practical one.
Only decades after, the movement of mass proportions was propelled by the discovery of gold in
California territory. As such, it ended with the inundation of this region by a wave of largely
unwelcome immigrants from all outside corners. Immigrants like Strauss and Davis sought to cater to
the needs and tastes of a more diversified populace. Even today, San Francisco has a minority majority
population, with a Caucasian ratio of less than half. This facilitation of diversity makes California a
distinctive region. Out of which came Levi Strauss jeans, an object of American iconography with an
enduring longevity.
A flood of diversity experienced at this time compares early California to the biblical Babel.
Population growth was so staggering that the availability of gold nuggets scattering the countryside to
people of all stations purported a mass immigration that instantaneously grew by tens of thousands,
eventually reaching hundreds of thousands. Racism and prejudice are root causes of immigrants
heading west. Just as miners

Compare And Contrast The Pantheon In Athens And The Parthenon
Two Ancient Monuments
Two of the ancient world s best examples of architecture, which still exist today, are the Pantheon in
Athens, and the Parthenon in Rome. Both of these monuments are more than just classical temples,
they are symbols of the great civilizations of the past which constructed them. Achievements which
have stood the test of time, despite the fact they have been stripped of their former glory.
First of all let s consider the older of the two, the Parthenon. The Parthenon stands on the top of the
Acropolis, a rocky outcrop in the center of Athens, Greece. Work began on the temple complex shortly
after the war with Persia ended, from 447 to 432 BCE. The funds to finance the building of this grand
monument came from the surplus of the war treasury of the Delian League, an alliance of city states
created for the sake of defence against the Persians. The Acropolis had suffered greatly in the war
when the Persians invaded Athens in 480 BCE, looting and destroying the temples. Yet the building of
the Parthenon was more than just a restoration of lost temples, it was a statement, a ... Show more

Examples Of Archetypal Criticism In In The Time Of The...
An American poet once stated, Great literature is simply language charged with meaning to the utmost
possible degree (Pound). Every piece of literature has a impactful underlying meaning and can be
interpreted into universal symbols, motifs, and patterns. Archetypal Criticism is a theory based off
common myths, images, and symbols in literature. The definition of archetypal can be defined as a
very typical example of a certain person or thing (Davidson). With that said, Archetypal Criticism can
be applied to In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. Alvarez uses common character types,
like the hero and the villian, and also uses the symbol of butterflies in her novel.

An example of this ia relating the Mirabal sisters to butterflies. Regina M. Cutter Edwards, an
Entomologist, states, Butterflies are deep and powerful representations of life. [...] Around the world,
people view the butterfly as representing endurance, change, hope, and life (Edwards). The term
butterfly was the sisters code name for the movement. The butterfly was a symbol for them, not only
because that is what they were called, but also because they symbolized what it meant to be a
butterfly. The Mirabal sisters changed from being little children, following their parents, to individuals
leading a revolution and having other people follow them. When Minerva was young she stated, I had

Government Privacy Analysis
How much do you know about the American government? Does the government respect the privacy of
their citizens? Is the government violating Americans privacy? In 2013 a guy named Edward Snowden
released government files that prove that the government has a file for every cell phone in America.
Meaning that every text message, photo, phone call, email, etc is being recorded, making it easier for
the government to track down anyone that they want. Americans privacy is being violated very
similarly to the privacy violations in 1984, a novel written by George Orwell. In the present day and in
1984 people could be easily tracked down and are being watched every second, of every day.
Personally I believe that the privacy shouldn t be violated for ... Show more content on

If anyone ever started to act suspicious or do unusual activity, the FBI will then pull up that person s
cell phone file, and review every text message, phone call, email, etc. Thanks to a guy named Edward
Snowden these files were released to show everyone the secret activity the government does behind
the people s backs. Edward Snowden worked for the NSA and had many important roles. When
Snowden came across these files he felt the need the documents because he believed that these types
of decisions should be determined by the public. And just like Edward Snowden I do strongly believe
that the government should not have made the decision of recording private information without
notifying us, the citizens. Even though these actions are meant to protect and to prevent, however this
is a total violation of privacy which is not ok.
In conclusion, every person with a cellular device does have a file that the government has just in
case. Cell phones are losing it s original purpose and should now be considered a tracking device. If
the government kept this secret, who knows what else they could be hiding. Personally it s frightening
to know that the government knows where you are, who you were with, how long you were with that
person, and when you went back home. Just like in 1984 you never know when Big Brother is

The Christian s Acts Of Faith
We ve all been there before, searching for something to watch on TV, 500 channels and nothing
catches our attention until we hear the yelling of the televangelist, YOU JUST GOTTA HAVE FAITH!
QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL! LET GO AND LET GOD! For some that may be the
solution they are searching for. They might be frustrated or let down by their own efforts of
understanding. But does faith begin with letting go (of reason and understanding) and letting God
(reveal Himself to us) ? Is there any compatibility between exercising Christian faith and exercising
reason? Does reason have a role or should it have a role in the Christian s acts of faith? This has been
a topic of discussion throughout history by many great thinkers. I am going to attempt to show that
reason has an active role in exercising the Christian faith; at least attempt to show that reason and faith
aren t mutually exclusive. I will briefly discuss (1) different views of the philosophical divide taken by
philosophizers over the ages (2) and biblical evidence of the use of reason (3) definition of biblical
faith.
The apparent conflict between faith and reason has brought much trouble to believers and non
believers alike through the centuries. Influences like Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Pure Reason
penned these words: I have therefore found it necessary to deny knowledge in order to make room for
faith (1965, B:XXX) and Soren Kierkegaard held that the absolute limit to which our reason

Since the beginning of professional sports, one of the most controversial topics has been head Injuries
and even more specifically, concussions. A concussion is an injury to the brain or spinal cord due to
jarring from a blow, fall, or the like; a shock caused by the impact of a collision, blow, etc.; the act of
violently shaking or jarring. (dictionary.com) although people do not think so, these injuries have a
lasting effect that could change life dramatically down the road. Should sports leagues all over the
world be implementing more safety rules in order to prevent these types of head injuries? What makes
them so dangerous and why should we give the topic much more attention. Concussions in sports are a
major problem that needs to be addressed much for seriously. 66 percent of teenagers who reportedly
suffered a concussion did not feel it was serious enough to tell an adult. Head trauma resulting in brain
injury is the greatest killer under the age of 45 and the greatest cause of disability in people under 44.
Brain injury kills more children under age 20 than every other cause combined. In the U.S., athletes
suffer from roughly 300,000 concussions every year. Immediate consequences of concussions include
blurred vision, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, or unconsciousness. Athletes with serious
concussions may experience symptoms for 3 weeks or more. Concussions are more

Skeletal, Smooth, and Cardiac. The three kinds of muscles are different in some ways and they do
have things in common. Almost 650 of the 700 muscles in the human body are skeletal muscles.
Skeletal muscles are also known as voluntary muscles because we can voluntarily control their
movements. An example, humans choose to use skeletal muscles when they flex their arm muscles or
run laps around a track. Your Skeletal muscles are arranged in the body so that they are held in a slight
stretch over the joint. If your leg muscles for instance, were entirely relaxed while you were standing
up your legs would buckle and you would fall in a heap. Skeletal muscles are often attached from one
side of the bone over the joint to the end of another bone. Skeletal muscles function in pairs or groups
like a team. Usually, these muscles pairs or groups are Antagonistic. This means that they work
against one another while one or more muscles in the pair or group contract, or get smaller and
thicker, the other relax, or get bigger and thinner. Muscles can pull bones, but they can t push them.
Without other muscles in the pair or group to pull a bone back would remain in the same position
forever. Smooth muscles power movement that we don t control this is why the smooth muscles are
called involuntary muscles. The body s nervous system automatically controls the smooth muscles.
Functions powered by these muscles involve breathing, digestion

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Competitive Competition
Competitive markets means strong rivalry amongst firms or companies which are trying to achieve
and outdo each others by increasing their market share, profits and sales by using the methods of

as a spectrum of a purely monopolistic, in which a company is the sole producer of good and services,
this means that a sufficient number of firms or companies are relatively equal to their sizes, which

Matthew And Luke
The genealogy of Jesus in Matthew and Luke are very different which can be confusing to many
people because at first glance, it does not look like any of the names are the same. When I look at the
names, I cannot find any of them that are alike because they are not in the same order and they do not
end on the same person. In Matthew, he lists names of women while Luke does not list a single
women s name. There are, however, several different reasons from people like scholars on why this
could be possible. For example, some scholars think that one book is about Josephs ancestry and the
other about Mary s ancestry. This could be true, but there are many other arguments for this subject.
The first major view that explains this problem is found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the solutions were already mentioned somewhere in the two other books. It gives the view that
Matthew gives the royal line and Luke gives the natural line, but it does not give the opposite view of
that. It also says Matthew could have possibly been the line of Joseph and Luke the line of Mary. All
the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesus have many
differences, but a lot of similarities as well. It seems like these commentaries will give a solution, but
there will be someone else that thinks it is reversed. What I got out of the solution was that Matthew
and Luke were either both Josephs line with many differences in them or one was Mary s line and the
other Joseph s. This is a question that makes me wonder why the author of the books would not just
say what kind of genealogy it was. Did they not think that people later on would be very confused?
The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would probably have to be that Luke was the
royal line and Matthew the natural line. This is because Luke does not name any names of women and
Matthew does. I would not think that if giving the royal line, they would name any names of women
because they could not be the head of anything back then. That is the only reason I would choose that
one, but I know that there are probably so many other solutions too that could persuade me to think

Incredible British and French Revolution
Introduction The middle of the sixteenth century through the eighteenth century was the beginning of
Europe s two incredible revolutions which are the British and French Revolutions. The British
Revolution is very different from the French Revolution. Many different events and issues led up to
the British and French Revolutions that make them different from one another. For example the
primary factor that led to the British Revolution was the power of religion. While, the French
Revolution was based upon feudalism as well as the inequality of the third estate. There are many
different aspects of the British and French Revolutions that make one stand out from the other and
together they are both marked as important events that occurred in European history. Background of
the British Revolution In order to depict the differences between the British Revolution and French

Nicholas lived in a huge palace while the rest of his citizens lived in tiny houses. This resembles
Mr.Jones because Mr. Jones ate a lot of food and drank while his animals were starving and working

Besides both being bad leaders, they both were overthrown from their position. The starvation was
more than the hungry animals could bear and so the animals overthrew Mr.Jones (Orwell 19).
Mr.Jones and his men were overthrown and thrown off the farm, they were run off, and the animals
were in control of the farm. Czar Nicholas II s citizens could also only take so much, in one article it

Repetition is also used in the second and fifth speech.
In the second main speech in which Henry exposes the traitors, I think he plays with the traitors before
he tells the traitors that he knows about their, sin. Henry loves defeating people at their own game as
we saw in the last speech as well. Shakespeare often makes speeches easier to understand by using
comparison. In almost all of the speeches, Shakespeare uses examples of objects, which everyone can
relate to, or at least can imagine. In this speech he compares the traitors to monsters. Shakespeare also
uses comparison greatly in the third speech. The traitors are guilty and we all know that but Henry
puts the situation in such words, which makes them appear unforgivable, cruel, Ingrateful, savage, and
inhuman creature. Comparing once again, ...coined me into gold, he says it as though Lord Scroop had
put a price on their friendship, their extremely deep friendship, That knew st the very bottom of my
soul. How can one not differentiate between black and white, Henry uses comparison yet again.
Another example of such technique is, the voice in hell for excellence, he refers the traitor s act as
sheer excellence even in hell . I think asking a rhetorical question seems to be very

lot of time trying to figure out where they were gonna go and then they finally found a good place.
They wanted to go to a good place where they could enjoy themselves. Reading Response #5 9/26

The Context And Theory Of Corporate Governance
01 The context and theory of corporate governance 1.1 The meaning and purpose of corporate
governance Corporate governance broadly refers to the mechanisms, processes and relations by which
corporations are controlled and directed. Corporate governance has also been more narrowly defined
as a system of law and sound approaches by which corporations are directed and controlled focusing
on the internal and external corporate structures with the intention of monitoring the actions of
management and directors and thereby, mitigating agency risks which may stem from the misdeeds of
corporate officers. Governance structures and principles identify the distribution of rights and
responsibilities among different participants in the corporation ... Show more content on

1.3 The development of corporate governance and corporate governance theory Corporate governance
is a relatively new area and its development has been affected by theories from a number of
disciplines, including finance, economics, accounting, law, management, and organisational behavior.
Agency theory has probably affected the development of the corporate governance framework the
most. Agency theory identifies the agency relationship where one party, the principal, delegates work
to another party, the agent. In the context of a corporation, the owners are the principal and the
directors are the agent. In addition, there are other theories that have affected the development of
corporate governance, which include: transaction costs economics, stakeholder theory, and
stewardship theory. The development of corporate governance is a global occurrence and, as such, is a
complex area including legal, cultural, ownership, and other structural differences. Therefore, some
theories may be more appropriate and relevant to some countries than others. 1.4 Theories of
corporate governance There are a range of theories in corporate governance, such theories address the
cause and effect of variables.  Agency Identifies the agency relationship where one party, the

speech sound production in pediatric cochlear implant recipients. Journal of Speech, Language, and
Hearing Research, 51(5), 1353 1368.
Purpose: To study the long term development of speech sounds in children with cochlear implants and
to determine if there was a time at which this development reaches a point of little or no change.
Methods: Spontaneous speech samples were collected from twenty seven children who had been using
a cochlear implant for at least 8 years and had at least two speech samples available from previous
evaluations. The samples were glossed for intended words and the first 100 words were transcribed
phonetically.
Results: There was a consistent increase in accuracy of speech sound production from implantation to
4 6 years post implantation in contrast to the relative plateau seen 6 10 years postimplantation.
Clinical Implications: At 4 years post implantation, a good prognosis can be formed about speech
sound production later in life. It is vital that a child s development of speech sounds is facilitated
during the first 6 years post implantation.

Gay Marriage Thesis
Gay marriage is a very controversial issue that has emerged in our society. Depending on your
upbringing and your mentality, individuals have formed their own personal opinions and have taken
sides, either to support or to oppose the issue. Gay marriage throughout the years has sparked so much
controversy that it was brought to the United States Supreme Court, which is known to be the highest
court of all the land. It is up to the justices of the court to determine how states and society view and
treat gay marriage. Whether it being legalized throughout the country or only in certain states, it is,
now legalized and recognized as a legitimate marriage in certain state. However, although it is
recognized and states legalized gay marriage, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After hearing the case three issues that were needed to be addressed was if same sex marriage a right
for individuals to marry in each state, does the states have to grant marriage licenses to same sex
couples, and lastly must states recognize same sex marriage licenses in other jurisdictions? The courts
concluded and favored the plaintiffs, the ruling of the case was 5 4 and the majority opinion was
written by Justice Kennedy. Basically the judges in the majority believe that the fourteenth
amendment is responsible and is required to allow same sex marriages have the right to marry in all
states that states must issue marriage licenses to those of same sex, and lastly the license must be
recognized throughout all states. As you see an example of the some of the justices siding with the
plaintiffs, however there is another side that opposes the legalization of gay marriage. In the Supreme
Court justices of the courts are allowed to issue and write opinions on cases whether to favoring or
arguing against a case s ruling. In the case of Obergefell vs.Hodges, Scalia wrote a dissenting opinion

The Global War on Terror
A Middle Ground Essay about the Global War on Terror Introduction Over the last several years, the
approach that is used in the War on Terror has been increasingly brought to the forefront. This is
because there has been a shift in public opinion about the impact of specific events and the tactics to
achieve a host of objectives. A good example of this can be seen with the use of special operations
forces and the shooting spree of Robert Bales. He was an American soldier who was on his fourth tour
in Afghanistan. One night after drinking heavily is when he snapped and went on a shooting spree
(killing 16 civilians). This has an adverse impact on the US military s involvement in the region and
the tactics they are using to achieve different objectives in the War of Terror. As a result, this is
illustrating how a balanced approach must be taken over the long term. This will allow the nation to
deal with the costs and resources of fighting this war more effectively. Over the long term, these kinds
of techniques will make the US more efficient in going after terrorist organizations (by taking a
middle of the road approach). ( Sergeant Robert Bales, ) This is appropriate, in illustrating how the
middle ground approach is necessary at this time. The reason why is: the military and other resources
are being increasingly strained by this long commitment. If there was a strategy that focused on
different aspects of the War on Terror, personnel would be more effective in rooting

American realized they should learn the Japanese economy model of high levels of coordination
between business and government, well balance between stakeholders, highly trained workers as well
as just in time method. However, in the 1990s, the flow has reversed with Japanese companies
experienced pressures to adapt U.S style corporate governance and market oriented employment
practice. U.S now enjoys macroeconomic success, generate millions of new jobs while Japan and
Europe experienced slow growth and high level of unemployment. American model with flexible
employment arrangements, shareholder sovereignty, decentralized companies recaptured the lead as
slower growing peers such as Japan and Europe regarding the model as the best. Generally, this two
economies become more aware of each other, they compare themselves and more likely to adopt each
other s practices, especially at the level of the industry in which they complete. For example, U.S
investors are active in Japan, trying to persuade local executives to adopt U.S style business practices,
just as U.S policy makers have been urging the Japanese government to emulate American laws
regarding trade, commerce and intellectual property. On the other hand, Japanese firms have made
huge amount of investment in U.S and have considerable U.S based employees who adopt to Japanese
style practices. Over time, the U.S and Japanese firms

Dual Credit American History Research Paper
Looking back at Dual Credit American history, it was the research papers that saved my grade.
Learning from my mistakes I discovered that self sufficiency was not the only attribute that I would
require for Dual Credit American History. I had made it through every class before putting in the work
by myself or in small groups. Rarely ever taking advantage of additional help form the teacher. My
work that I did on my own was sufficient, why would I need additional help? It was with the first test
on the second day of testing that I realized this would have to change.
In class we had already did our study guides for the multiple choice and reviewed what to write for the
essay topics. I was about equally prepared for them both. The second test day was essay test day we
had 45 minutes to fully answer the questions. Mrs. Baylous announced that the chosen essay was
Number 2, which was, Is Christopher Columbus a hero or a villain? along with several other sub
questions. Many in the room exclaimed their joy at this, or stated their disappointment with sighs or
groans. I franticly wrote down a meager plan of what to write about, then I just went into ... Show

first semester was not accomplished, but that inspired me to strive to do even better the second
semester. What I did to make my second research paper great, would have to be replicated even more,
with some refinement. Maybe my grade was better because I knew the material more thoroughly. It
could ve been a possibility that I took better notes. Maybe it was just more consistent good grades. It
might have even been I a better writer under the pressure of a time

Analysis Of The Little Princess
Texts and Their Time Periods Burnett s The Little Princess constructs the child as being feminine,
motherly, polite, and rich as the ideal princess should be. Nonetheless, Sara is also given a great
imagination which is unlike other princesses, and allows her to escape the conflicts she comes across;
in her portrayal of The Little Princess Burnett s idea of a child being subjected to isolation and left to
provide for herself is dealt with through the use of Sara s imagination. The Hunger Games takes a
distinct approach, rather than demonstrating an ideal princess that must survive by providing for
herself by using her imagination, Collins displays a strong and independent girl who must kill and
gain knowledge about the world she live in to survive. The shift in contemporary literature
demonstrates that in today s society a woman can do more than just be beautiful, and have a the brains
to care for a male; A girl can also be physically strong, independent, and provide for herself and
others. Both the texts reflect different ideas of the actions a child is obligated to take in order to remain
alive. Additionally, both texts generate different ideas about the ideal young lady and the traits they
were expected to poses at the time. The Little Princess was initially a play that was written in the
golden age of children s literature, a time when authors focused on gender differences. Durning this
time period one can infer that social class and race were important. Social class

Field Work Personal Statement
I was looking for an interactive study abroad experience where I could obtain more experience doing
fieldwork, and found this specific program. The aspects of this class that primarily caught my
attention were the opportunity to do fieldwork, travel to a different continent, camp/hike in one of the
worlds famous regions (Amazon rainforest), and the opportunity to widen my knowledge of
biodiversity and how to calculate it. I have studied abroad before, with Dr. CS Chaboo doing
fieldwork in Costa Rica, where we collected insects and other creatures from leaf rolls and
inflorescences we found in the cloud rainforests of Monteverde and other regions. In order to find the
specific plants that we wanted to study, we had to hike through Monteverde and surrounding areas.
These hikes were hard and very rewarding and powered my interest ... Show more content on

degree in Environmental Studies after graduating in 2018, and plan to move out of state to continue
my higher education. After attending the Costa Rica trip, it became evident that whatever kind of work
I want to do in the future, I want it to heavily involve fieldwork and the study of the health of
ecosystems. My short term goals for the future include some kind of Research Experience for
Undergraduates (REU) or an internship that will allow me to further explore during the summer which
kinds of ecosystems I want to focus my career on (education and

The Public Education System
The public education system expects all the children and adolescents from the ages from three to
eighteen to be in school. This is to see the results of success accompanying the kids through them
being economically aware and responsible to the country they reside in, to further better the scientific
and technological developments in which the system invests in by funding education till the end of the
secondary school and lastly to progress social skills and understanding while interacting with their

The stages of social development are one of the most significant of the reasons the system wants the
schools to be attended. These years are the time one can stage a strong foundation in areas like

Disruptive Behaviors In The Classroom
Students will always display disruptive behaviors in classrooms. Sometimes one teacher is responsible
for twenty five students, so disruptive behaviors will surely happen. I think what is important is how
educators handle these situations. Some common disruptive behaviors for a third grade classroom are
calling out, talking, breaking the classroom rules, talking back, not focusing on the lesson, yelling, and
staying seated. The key to managing disruptive situations and maximizing learning in a third grade
classroom is good classroom management. Being an effective classroom manager is the most
important role for a teacher, and with good classroom management, a teacher can stop the disruptive
behaviors from continuing. Classroom management is difficult for early teachers. If students are not
following rules and procedures, the classroom can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the first weeks, the effective managers spend quite a bit of time teaching rules and
procedures. Some use guided practice, others use rewards to shape behavior (Woolfolk 525). By
making clear class room rules, teachers can establish procedures for rule breaking, or disruptive
behavior in class. If I saw a disruptive behavior such as a student who repeatedly calls out in my
classroom during a lesson, I would handle the situation by understanding that this student WANTS to
answer questions, they want my personal reassurance because they are answering the questions I ask,
just not how I want them to respond. I would be sure to make eye contact with them, and go over the
class room rule of not calling out, we must raise our hands . If the behavior continued and was
becoming a real problem during lessons, I would pull them aside quietly and explain to them calmly
that I appreciate their eagerness and wanting to respond to my questions, but I need them to be
respectful to the classroom rules and wait their turn to answer. I feel if you assure them that you
understand them, they may respond better to your

  • 2. Sex Discrimination And Discrimination Kyle Eagleston Professor Brogan PE 100 12/10/2017 Title IX People are constantly making mistakes and avoiding certain responsibilities. Mainly minor responsibilities can be avoided and unanswered, but major ones need to be questioned and brought to attention in order for them to be dealt with. Sex discrimination is one of those mistakes that people are constantly making. It isn t happening as much as it used to in the past, but it is still occurring in our education system, employment, housing, and even in something as small as credit. There are large episodes in past time that we are able to track down and see examples of sex discrimination towards females, especially in education. From as early as birth, women are being discriminated against just because they are supposedly inferior to men. This was all put to a stop when Title IX was formed. Title IX s main objective is to protect people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. The motto that we follow is No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance . Title IX was passed as a law by Richard Nixon in 1972, and was created within the Education Amendments by Congress. It also consisted of two benefactors, Birch Bayh from the Senate, and Edith Green from the House ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Legalizing The Death With Dignity Act The story of Brittany Maynard continues to sweep the nation and has sparked a highly controversial debate concerning the legality and ethicality of assisting in one s death. When twenty nine year old Maynard was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and given less than six months to live, she made the difficult decision to pick up and move to Portland, Oregon. Oregon exists as one of only four states that have legalized assisted suicide (Egan 60 64). In Oregon, she legally ended her battle with cancer in a dignified manner (Egan 60 64). The American Heritage Dictionary defines euthanasia as, the action of inducing the painless death of a person for reasons assumed to be merciful (Morris 453). There are more people than just Maynard who are strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the first year the death with dignity act went into effect in Oregon, just fifteen people ended their life through the process of euthanasia. In 1997, a group of people rallied to undermine the death with dignity act with a statute called measure fifty one but the citizens of Oregon rejected the measure proving that the men and women of Oregon demand this right and want the death with dignity act to stay in place ( Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia Timeline ). Sixty one physicians wrote prescriptions for lethal doses of medication in Oregon in the year 2012 for the purpose of euthanasia, displaying the willingness of experienced medical professionals to assist patients in dying with dignity ( Prescription for Suicide 1). Washington became the second state to legalize assisted suicide in November of 2008, and Montana followed suit on January second, 2010. Finally, Vermont legalized assisted suicide in May of 2013, becoming the fourth and final state to emulate support for death with dignity. The precise reason that more states do not make dying with dignity a legal option is complicated, but one factor that does contribute to the rejection of assisted suicide legislation is the concerns about the safety and ethicality of euthanasia ( Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia Timeline ). The reality of these concerns is that the regulations regarding assisted suicide are proving to work impeccably as noted by the Canada Compassion and Choices ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Obama s Leadership During the Hurricane Sandy Disaster Hurricane Sandy is probably one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent human history. This is no exaggeration, as implied by its status as superstorm and its tongue in cheek nomination as Frankenstorm. And indeed, there has been a significant scale of damage to property and in some cases even to life itself. As the President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama took it upon himself to personally visit the states that were hardest hit, and to offer support where he could. This in itself may not be extremely unusual for a current president. However, Obama took time out of a very busy election campaign, which he was by no means certain of winning, to lend both personal, emotional, and financial support before, during, and after the storm. Before the storm, the President set aside his drive to win the election to fulfill his duties as current president, in his own words, to save lives. (Fisher, 2012). For the President, this meant acting as crisis manager and disaster official by putting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on alert, ensuring that food and water provisions were in place, and speaking with all the governors of the affected states to ensure that they had measures in place to help and support their citizens through the crisis. He also had the difficult task of ensuring that the country set its political differences aside at a time when these differences were at the forefront of every consciousness in the country. ... • 5. Animals Are Dogs And Cats Most people are families with domesticated animals as pets. The most common pets are dogs and cats. However, some people want to own exotic animals instead of normal animals. They pick what they want, but they actually don t pay attention to an outcome later. There have three outcomes that people should not own exotic animals which are bad for animals, bad for owners, and bad for environment. In the Steps to Writing Well textbook by Jean Wyrick, there has an article that supports people who adopt wild animals and the name is Zuana Kukol s Opposing View: Let People Own Exotic Animals. Based on that, the author gives a message that people should be allowed to adopt any animals because it helps animals stay away from extinction, everybody should have freedom to pick any species of wild, and exotic animals have low numbers of harmful per year. This is also a way to eliminate extinction because exotic animals are captive animals, so they will be backup when animals go extinct. Moreover, the article shows the record of fatalities per year by captive animals only around four people per year. Meanwhile, traffic accidents are around one hundred per day. The writer also supports with emphasis sentences at the end on why people have the freedom to pick their favorite car but not animals. To sum up, the author writes this article because of supporting people who want to own exotic animals as pets. First of all, owning wild animals as pets is a bad decision for animals life later on. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ida B. Wells Essays Ida B. Wells was a woman dedicated to a cause, a cause to prevent hundreds of thousands of people from being murdered by lynching. Lynching is defined as to take the law into its own hands and kill someone in punishment for a crime or a presumed crime. Ida B. Wells amp;#8217; back round made her a logical spokesperson against lynching. She drew on many experiences throughout her life to aid in her crusade. Her position as a black woman, however, affected her credibility both in and out of America in a few different ways. Her parents nurtured the background of this crusader to make her a great spokesperson. She also held positions throughout her life that allowed her to learn a lot about lynching. She was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her energetic campaign for truth and justice gave her a lot of attention to fuel her crusade. All these factors support the fact that her background made her an ample spokes person for the anti lynching campaign. Adding to her credibility, personal experiences also gave her more of a drive to continue her crusade. She became a leading community activist through a sequence of events. In 1884 Ida was riding a train in a first class car, when she was asked to move to the smoking car. When she refused, two conductors tried to physically move her. She instead got off the train and filed a discrimination lawsuit. The lawsuit was initially won, but the Tennessee Supreme Court overturned the verdict. After the train incident, in 1889, Ida went to The Free Speech paper; this is where her most promising worked developed. In 1892, three of her friends were brutally killed during a lynching. This one particular event opened the eyes of Wells and prompted her to write some of her most controversial works yet. However this type of writing got the Free Speech office ransacked and destroyed. The other owner of the Free Speech barely escaped with his life, but he carried the message that if Ida were to show her face ever again in Tennessee she would be killed. Now with all this ammunition based on personal experience, even as an African American woman, she had gained credibility to be able to speak with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I recently stayed at the Denver Warwick hotel for a business meeting and was very pleased with the entire experience! I will start off and mention the small gripes I have, one of which is how far this place is from the airport. I suppose that is to be expected since it is in Downtown Denver, and Colorado is definitely a vast area (this was my first visit out there...) but the $65 ride from the airport was a sting! The other thing I found to be a little odd was that there was no ATM in the hotel. We needed cash to be able to pay our car driver back to the airport, and had to go across the street to one (which ended up being out of service) so that was a little inconvenient, but our driver was kind and helped us find one nearby. Beyond those two things, the stay at the Warwick was nothing but positive. I was given a junior suite that was also handicapped accessible, and it was perfect. There was a very comfortable king bed, a big flat screen TV, a little sitting area upon entering and a desk/office area with plenty of outlets to plug in electronics! The wireless access was $10 a day, but for a flawless high speed, connection, it was well worth it The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and very good sized! Not only was there a roll in shower with a showerhead that could be lowered, but there was also a bathtub (that was lower than average so it was easier to step in and out of) with yet another ... • 8. The Future Of Electric Energy Upon the first discovery of electricity, the subjects of electricity and magnetism would go on to revolutionize life as we know it. With the rudimentary work completed by the leaders within the field, such as Benjamin Franklin or Nikola Tesla, these brilliant scientists laid the foundation that would go on to become arguably one of the most important aspects of our forever changed society. Although we have learned to incorporate electricity, it has many uses within our lives. Electric energy is at the forefront of our world s business, engineering, and medical sectors of the workforce. Public transportation is rapidly getting on the radar for developing new technologies to better serve consumers. With great emphasis being placed on living more eco friendly lives and the increasing costs of energy, these more efficient transportation models will change the face of history. One major point driving this initiative is the pull back of fossil fuel consumption, and the reduction of greenhouse gases being released into our atmosphere. Both historians and energy experts agree that as society advances, there is a need for more concentrated, powerful forms of energy, like rocket fuel instead of gasoline. Electric vehicles are one of these technologies to hit the consumer markets. Companies such as Toyota and Tesla are beginning to manufacture both hybrid and electric vehicles. Electric cars work on the basis of expending the energy stored in a battery (or series of batteries) for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. How Does Homelessness Affect Our Society Every night across America, roughly 32,000 people between the ages of 18 and 24 are homeless (Youth Homelessness). In the same night, hundreds of thousands of girls say goodnight to their fellow sorority sisters before crawling into their beds. As a Panhellenic community, University of Nebraska gives girls the opportunities to create friendships, form connections, and build strong women. We are called to be active members of society, and use our fortunate lives to change the world we live in. After visiting Community First! Village of Austin, Texas, it has become aware to me the severity of homelessness in America and how simple it can be to change it. Community First! not only builds tiny homes through donations for homeless people around Austin, but gives them a community to become a part of. Donating money to build a tiny house at Community First! Village would not only strengthen UNL s Panhellenic Council s generous reputation, but also support the movement to end homelessness through providing a home and community to a young outcasted individual. Community First! Village is sponsored by Mobile Loaves Fishes, a catholic charity that has has grown to working every night, all year long, providing food, clothing, and hygiene products to the homeless in surrounding cities of Austin. They have served over 5 million meals with the help of 19,000 volunteers. Their recent innovation (Community First!) is a 27 acre development that has been building a tiny home community for homeless people to buy for inexpensive prices. The village features miniature neighborhoods of homes, a church, garden, medical facility, market, movie theater, and other amenities. The project continues to grow as donations and volunteers come in for construction of housing and purchases of needed materials and goods. As of now, the village has housed almost 200 former homeless men and women. Mobile Loaves Fishes continues to house more people as construction is completed and word has spread to other major cities of the work this organization has founded and grown. • 11. The Teachings and Influence of Bill Gothard Introduction: Influencing hundreds of thousands of people over the span of fifty years, Bill Gothard has become an icon of Christian counseling in the United States and in the world at large. His work in determining the basic conflicts in the hearts of people and his devotion to creating a Bible based community and curriculum for homeschooling families has made him a powerful leader in the realm of Christian counseling and teaching and has endeared him to many. His counseling style has affected thousands of preachers and teachers who follow his methods, and so it is important to understand the principles behind Gothard s doctrines. To fully understand Gothard s teachings, one must first understand the world of psychological counseling. According to the American Counseling Association, counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil... In essence counseling helps people understand their problems and gives them tools to deal with these issues. Although the goal of counseling remains the same across the board, the beliefs and presuppositions of individual counselors affect the methods and techniques they implement in their counseling. For the secular psychological counselor, the focus is ego centric. The goal of counseling is to give the client a better life and a happier outlook on life so that he can achieve even greater things for himself. For the Christian, the goal of counseling is to bring the client into a closer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Enlightenment Vs Romantic Era Essay The Enlightenment, or Age of Reason (1647 1789), and the Romantic Era (1790 1832) were two contrasting yet consecutive periods in history that consisted of fundamentally opposing works. While Romantics believed that the Enlightenment era created an oppressed and conformist society, Enlightenment thinkers regarded the Romantics as naive and too emotional. Although the Enlightenment and Romantic periods were at odds in distinct ways, both aspired to improve humanity, liberate the self, and emphasize their unique values through referencing Greek mythology. Both the Romantics, who loved nature, and the Enlightenment thinkers, who valued rational thought and moderation, believed their movements would help humanity thrive. In William Wordsworth s ... By exciting the emotions of pain and danger, the reader may feel a sense of freedom since she is not restrained by rational thought; an Enlightenment value, which the Romantic writers despised. In Alexander Pope s Enlightenment poem, The Rape of the Lock, the speaker declares that The hungry judges soon the sentence sign / And wretches hang that jurymen may dine (22 23). Pope questions the legal system by using satire and suggesting that the judges and juries put their own physical needs like hunger, above justice. This satirical element was common in the Enlightenment, and shows increased individual liberty because the writer is exercising his right to say whatever he wants in a clever way. By challenging people in power, Pope is demonstrating how humans have the right to govern their own lives and be free. Limited range of motion is caused by a decline in a joints ability to move like it should. This is caused by pain, swelling, or stiffness in the joint area. A goniometer is a tool that is used by therapists to measure the range of motion of a joint in a client s body. This is done by the therapist placing the center of the goniometer on the joint that is being evaluated. Moss decides to seize the money and consequently sets off a chase for his life against the old hand sheriff Ed Tom Bell and hired psychopathic killer Anton Chigurh. This statement set the residents of Watts s attendees in an uproar. For six days, tons of Watts s residents flooded the streets; I witnessed crowds of angry oppressed people looting every business in sight, walking away with things that they have wanted for a long time but just did not that the means to get until this day. I witnessed gangs of people pull any white driver out of his or her vehicles and beat them repeatedly. Thinking off every unjust beating their fellow brother or sister received from racist white cops. Businesses burned to the ground, cars vandalized and set to flames, and there were images all over Watts that expressed to the nation their frustration of police brutality and social mistreatment of a community and of a race. • 16. Surviving Species Environments When you think of survival of the fittest, you may be wrong. If you think about it as more of survival of the best adapted to a species environment. Now this can be used with a few following examples; a species will not be able to survive if it is the strongest of its kind if the area it lives in is cold. The specimen with the warm fur coat will outlast the physically strong. Now this can work the other way as well the specimen with the fur coat may not be able to defend its self from the predators if it is not the most physically fit specimen. The end result if the species does not adapt to the new surroundings it will eventually die out and become extinct, leaving the one specimen who has now passed on the fur coat to survive in the cold ... • 17. Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic Essay Odour of Chrysanthemums as a Classic The claim that Odour of Chrysanthemums is a well crafted story is hardly brave or risky, for many would agree. For instance, the man who in a sense discovered Lawrence, English Review editor F. M. Ford, said this about Odour of Chrysanthemums : The very title makes an impact on the mind. You get at once the knowledge that this is not, whatever else it may turn out, either a frivolous or even a gay springtime story. Chrysanthemums are not only flowers of the autumn: they are the autumn itself. . . This man knows what he wants. He sees the scene of his story exactly. He has an authoritative mind. For she had been wrong. She had said he was something he was not; she had felt familiar with him. Whereas he was apart all the while, living as she never lived, feeling as she never felt. (Lawrence 300) This is Elizabeth s epiphany. Her husband, a seemingly familiar fixture in her life, was ultimately a stranger to her. Her shock at realizing this suggests that some deep seated belief of hers has turned out false. Perhaps Elizabeth incorrectly assumed that marriage implied a special connection between husband and wife. Whatever the belief, this realization coupled with her husband s sudden death leads to an acute sense of loneliness which is the most unique aspect of the story. If we can attribute the unusual success of Odour of Chrysanthemums to those unique aspects which distinguish it from other stories, then perhaps the unique, final moment is key evidence in the search for the reasons why Odour of Chrysanthemums is successful. Furthermore, the epiphany must be considered carefully, for it is of vital importance to the story and its readers perceptions of it. The position of the epiphany in the story s structure clearly suggests its importance. If the moment when Elizabeth discovers that her husband is dead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Root Causes Of Mass Immigration In California The decision to shift into mass production was one that was spurred on my industrialization and a wider demand for the product. Not only were jeans easier to make in the factory, they were created more efficiently and in bigger volumes. With the wave of mass immigration, came a significantly larger working class who all needed work wear that could withstand the job s demands. Ultimately the decision to mass produce was an economic and practical one. Only decades after, the movement of mass proportions was propelled by the discovery of gold in California territory. As such, it ended with the inundation of this region by a wave of largely unwelcome immigrants from all outside corners. Immigrants like Strauss and Davis sought to cater to the needs and tastes of a more diversified populace. Even today, San Francisco has a minority majority population, with a Caucasian ratio of less than half. This facilitation of diversity makes California a distinctive region. Out of which came Levi Strauss jeans, an object of American iconography with an enduring longevity. A flood of diversity experienced at this time compares early California to the biblical Babel. Compare And Contrast The Pantheon In Athens And The Parthenon Two Ancient Monuments Two of the ancient world s best examples of architecture, which still exist today, are the Pantheon in Athens, and the Parthenon in Rome. Both of these monuments are more than just classical temples, they are symbols of the great civilizations of the past which constructed them. Achievements which have stood the test of time, despite the fact they have been stripped of their former glory. First of all let s consider the older of the two, the Parthenon. The Parthenon stands on the top of the Acropolis, a rocky outcrop in the center of Athens, Greece. Work began on the temple complex shortly after the war with Persia ended, from 447 to 432 BCE. The funds to finance the building of this grand monument came from the surplus of the war treasury of the Delian League, an alliance of city states created for the sake of defence against the Persians. QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL! LET GO AND LET GOD! For some that may be the solution they are searching for. They might be frustrated or let down by their own efforts of understanding. But does faith begin with letting go (of reason and understanding) and letting God (reveal Himself to us) ? Is there any compatibility between exercising Christian faith and exercising reason? Does reason have a role or should it have a role in the Christian s acts of faith? This has been a topic of discussion throughout history by many great thinkers. I am going to attempt to show that reason has an active role in exercising the Christian faith; at least attempt to show that reason and faith aren t mutually exclusive. I will briefly discuss (1) different views of the philosophical divide taken by philosophizers over the ages (2) and biblical evidence of the use of reason (3) definition of biblical faith. The apparent conflict between faith and reason has brought much trouble to believers and non believers alike through the centuries. An example, humans choose to use skeletal muscles when they flex their arm muscles or run laps around a track. Your Skeletal muscles are arranged in the body so that they are held in a slight stretch over the joint. If your leg muscles for instance, were entirely relaxed while you were standing up your legs would buckle and you would fall in a heap. All the commentaries of why Matthew and Luke have different genealogies of Jesus have many differences, but a lot of similarities as well. The solution I would choose to be the correct solution would probably have to be that Luke was the royal line and Matthew the natural line. CHALLENGES FOR LOGISTIC SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT IN SLOWDOWN A distinct feature of this economic slowdown is the direct degradation of consumer s assets which has wiped out hundreds of billions of dollars in wealth. And consumers have responded by spending conservatively and concentrating on improving their savings. This new era of low spending and unpredictable consumer behaviour has rendered many demand forecasting models inaccurate or even obsolete. Using, five main speeches that Henry V makes. I think that Henry won the hearts of his men by persuasion. Beforehand, I would like to apologize because I may talk about what Henry says but I truly know this is what Shakespeare wrote. In the first speech the Dauphin presented Henry V with a set of tennis balls as a joke and insult. He was suggesting that Henry was a child and not fit for being a king. Repetition is also used in the second and fifth speech. In the second main speech in which Henry exposes the traitors, I think he plays with the traitors before he tells the traitors that he knows about their, sin. Henry loves defeating people at their own game as we saw in the last speech as well. Shakespeare often makes speeches easier to understand by using comparison. In almost all of the speeches, Shakespeare uses examples of objects, which everyone can relate to, or at least can imagine. In this speech he compares the traitors to monsters. Shakespeare also uses comparison greatly in the third speech. The traitors are guilty and we all know that but Henry puts the situation in such words, which makes them appear unforgivable, cruel, Ingrateful, savage, and inhuman creature. Comparing once again, ...coined me into gold, he says it as though Lord Scroop had put a price on their friendship, their extremely deep friendship, That knew st the very bottom of my soul. Methods: Spontaneous speech samples were collected from twenty seven children who had been using a cochlear implant for at least 8 years and had at least two speech samples available from previous evaluations. The samples were glossed for intended words and the first 100 words were transcribed phonetically. Results: There was a consistent increase in accuracy of speech sound production from implantation to 4 6 years post implantation in contrast to the relative plateau seen 6 10 years postimplantation. Clinical Implications: At 4 years post implantation, a good prognosis can be formed about speech sound production later in life. • 46. The Global War on Terror A Middle Ground Essay about the Global War on Terror Introduction Over the last several years, the approach that is used in the War on Terror has been increasingly brought to the forefront. This is because there has been a shift in public opinion about the impact of specific events and the tactics to achieve a host of objectives. A good example of this can be seen with the use of special operations forces and the shooting spree of Robert Bales. He was an American soldier who was on his fourth tour in Afghanistan. One night after drinking heavily is when he snapped and went on a shooting spree (killing 16 civilians). This has an adverse impact on the US military s involvement in the region and the tactics they are using to achieve different objectives in the War of Terror. As a result, this is illustrating how a balanced approach must be taken over the long term. This will allow the nation to deal with the costs and resources of fighting this war more effectively. Over the long term, these kinds of techniques will make the US more efficient in going after terrorist organizations (by taking a middle of the road approach). ( Sergeant Robert Bales, ) This is appropriate, in illustrating how the middle ground approach is necessary at this time. The reason why is: the military and other resources are being increasingly strained by this long commitment. Nonetheless, Sara is also given a great imagination which is unlike other princesses, and allows her to escape the conflicts she comes across; in her portrayal of The Little Princess Burnett s idea of a child being subjected to isolation and left to provide for herself is dealt with through the use of Sara s imagination. The Hunger Games takes a distinct approach, rather than demonstrating an ideal princess that must survive by providing for herself by using her imagination, Collins displays a strong and independent girl who must kill and gain knowledge about the world she live in to survive. The shift in contemporary literature demonstrates that in today s society a woman can do more than just be beautiful, and have a the brains to care for a male; A girl can also be physically strong, independent, and provide for herself and others. Both the texts reflect different ideas of the actions a child is obligated to take in order to remain alive.
