Essay on Tim s Coffee Shop
Executive Summary Tim s Coffee Shoppe set up outside looks very appealing for customers to go
inside and have a cup of coffee. When looking at the inside the atmosphere looks appealing for
customers. The business is also open every day from 6am to 2am with a bus stop close to the
business so it is easier to get too when not having a vehicle. Notice that the restaurant is located next
to the college. With having a coffee shop next to a college this will mostly attract more college
students and also with having live entertainment this should get more customers to come in. With
the live entertainment I noticed that there is no time schedule to when the live entertainment is
going to be at the restaurant it just states that the live... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management Management in Tim s Coffee Shoppe are doing a good job at making sure that the
restaurant is passing their inspections, but some of them have slacked on making sure that the
employees fill out their time cards correctly. There has been one employee that has received four
warnings throughout working at Tim s Coffee Shoppe, this employees warnings involve being
rude to the customers and to the other employees that also work there. Most of the employees
enjoy working there and with their managers. However there is one employee that felt like she
was not going to get anywhere by working so she is going to put her two weeks in so she can go
work for one of the competitors. One employee suggests that they need to have better cash
registers so they do not have to go through the paper receipts to make sure everything is
accounted for at the ending of a shift. With the one person that keeps getting the warnings I
suggest of letting him go so there is no more problems between him and the customers or
employees. When the one employee suggested that the new owner to get new cash registers I feel
that it might be a good idea so it is much easier to keep track of what is being sold. Also to keep
better track of the mistakes that might happen during the shifts. Also with having better cash
registers the restaurant could always start accepting

Book Reports On The Alchemist
Between the summer reading choice and novel synopses, The Alchemist was most interesting to
me, but I didn t know what the alchemist was. So I researched on it before I read this book. The
alchemist is a person who studies how to transfer metal into gold, so I thought, according to the
subject the story would be about a journey of studying how to transfer lead into gold. But my
prediction was completely wrong until now. Transforming lead into gold takes just a few parts
of the story. The main character, Santiago is a shepherd who is well educated. He is well
educated because he was preparing for a prestige. I didn t get why Santiago wants to be a
shepherd. The shepherd was a humble career, and prestige was a good career. Shepherds were
mostly not educated. The merchant s daughter asked him how did you learn to read. From that
question, I learned that Shepherd is not educated. The only good thing about Shepherd is
traveling. Just because of the dream, it is not right to change career. If I was Santiago, I would
just keep preparing prestige. The dream is a quiet appealing to one s taste, but the dream cannot
stop my career. From page 18, Santiago meets an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This moment gave me a lesson. Do not trust anyone in a strange place. After that moment he
started working at crystal shop. He tried a lot of new things, like selling tea inside the crystal
glasses or building a display case outside of shop to improve the crystal shop, but the crystal
merchant at first didn t appreciate it. The reason was too small that I laugh at it. The Merchant
was scared of the life change. He didn t want to change his life because he was used in current
life, but later on he makes one position to begin selling tea in the crystal glasses saying Maktub
which means it s written . By this scene I know that crystal merchant has a personality of timid and

The Persistence of Imperialism Essay
The Persistence of Imperialism
Following World War II, the concrete nature of imperialism, or the subjection of people or groups
based on a social, economical, or racial hierarchy, was seemingly in decline. For instance, India and
Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though
unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War
there became a need to ideologically separate the free First World , which was made up of western
Europe and the United States, from the communist Second World , which was primarily made up
by the Soviet Union. This separation unintentionally formed yet another hierarchy, and further
perpetuated imperialistic notions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time (1950 1968) the United States was undergoing an anticommunist movement
headed by Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy (Tignor et al., p.770). One of the purposes of this
movement was to inhibit the diffusion of communism to former colonial states such as south
Vietnam, and was the primary reason the U.S. invaded Vietnam. Though the implicit imperial
nature of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries
citizens and civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend
in American values for the past century. In his Beyond Vietnam meeting at Riverside Church , New
York, Dr. King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a
nature of persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S.
government could overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct
opposition domestic racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be
considered a concern of the past. In this, Dr. King speaks out against the imperialistic nature of
suppression, in favor of peaceful acceptance. The United States and other former colonizers were
not the only culprits in perpetuating imperialistic tendencies during this Cold War dichotomous
context. The newly

Ideals And Controversies Of National Park Expansion
Ideals and Controversies of National Park Expansion Since the early 1920s to the 1970s, there
has been a debate regarding the perceptions and standards by which national parks should be
established and limiting the expansion of national parks, limiting access for people living in
urban areas and threatening open spaces due to urban sprawl and over population. Gradually
traditional perceptions gave way to the preservationists viewpoints which redefined and
gradually expanded federal definition of national parks. This was to include areas that may not
be extraordinarily scenic but still required environmental protection or allowed recreational
access for urban citizens, allowing for expansion and more funding. In 1872, Yellowstone
National Park in Wyoming became the first national park to be established by Congress and
President Grant with the signing of the Act of Dedication Law. It followed that any national park
established subsequently would be measured against Yellowstone s significance in American
culture. (Runte, 2010, p. 190) This is based on its impressive geological features, and majestic
and monumental scenery. By the early 1900s, there was controversy surrounding the criteria as to
what would define a national park, as President Roosevelt had signed in several tracts of lands as
national parks that did not hold scenic value, where not especially expansive tracts of land, and one
was utilized as a gaming preserve by a governmental branch. One proponent to the

Satire In Wizard Of Oz And A Modest Proposal
Satire has been a part of literature as long as there has been chaos in the world. Two of the most
famous satire pieces are The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and A Modest Proposal by Jonathan
Swift. Both author s lives can be directly tied to the theme of finding your way home in The
Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Ozbegins with Dorothy accidentally finding herself in the magical
land of Ozafter a tornado blows her away. She immediately wants to leave and return to her home
in Kansas. She starts a journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who can supposedly grant her wish.
Along the way she meets several friends who want The Wizard to fix their problems as well. One
of the infamous characters was the Scarecrow. While resting on their travels to the Emerald City,
Scarecrow asks Dorothy why she wishes to return home when Oz is so beautiful. She replies with
No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live
there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (Baum,
Chapter 4)
Dorothy thinks that she would be better off away from home before she even arrives in Oz, but as
soon as there is a chance that she may not be able to return, she misses it severely. Even though Oz
is whimsical and exciting, it just does not compare to her home. ... Show more content on

Frank Baum s life can relate to Dorothy s adventures in The Wizard of Oz. He was privileged as
a child, so he was allowed to focus more on the arts than manual labour or a trade. After Baum
left school, he started writing, his main work at first being on his self produced newspaper, The
Rose Lawn Home Journal. He also wrote a five act play called The Maid of Arran while traveling
with a Shakespearean troupe. After marrying Maud Gage in 1883, Baum started to stray away from
writing. From this point on, every time that he tried to keep a job that was not directly related to
storytelling, he was met with scant success. (Contemporary Authors

The Proclamation Of 1763 After The French And Indian War
Events The Proclamation of 1763 is Britain s way of keeping colonists off the Indians lands. It
was declared after the French and Indian war, on October 7 1763 by King George the third. It s
still a fundamental Native American law even today across America and Canada. French and
Indian war Also known as the Seven Years War started 1757 and ended 1763. The war was
French and Native Americans combined forces against the British, the war lasted seven years.
Later in the war the British turned the tables on the French at Fort Frontenac. The war ended
when the treaty of Paris was signed, as was the revolutionary war. The sugar act also known as
the revenue act was proclaimed in 1764 by parliament. After the first act was to expire this act
was a tax on molasses also. It taxed people six pence per gallon of the imported substance. The
goal of the act was to raise revenue to help pay for military costs. The Stamp Act was proclaimed
in 1765, and it taxed every piece of printed paper. It taxed such goods as dice, playing cards, legal
documents, newspaper and almanacs. The goal of the act was to raise money for the Seven
Years War. The Townshend act was proclaimed in 1767. The colonists viewed it as an abuse of
power after the last acts. The act was eventually repealed but left the tax on tea. Some of the
imported items that it taxed were: glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The Quartering Act was
proclaimed in 1765. The act allowed the British soldiers to live in colonist s houses. It also
allowed soldiers to eat and drink colonists food. The goal of the act was to keep the uprising of
rebels at a low by catching them when the troops moved in, or by overhearing conversations. The
Boston Massacre, known as the Incident on King Street by the British happened on March 5
1770. A squad of British soldiers were being attacked by a mob. One of the soldiers fired, which
caused others to fire. Over all five died all colonists. The event greatly boosted the revolution.
The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773. The sons of liberty boarded 3 ships and
dumped tea into the Boston harbor. They did this because of the British oppression. The British
said they would have to pay all the tea off or the harbor will be closed.

Characteristics Of Caring For Patients
Characteristics of Caring
The first characteristic of caring deals with a healing interaction between the nurse and patient that
leads to a therapeutic outcome. The outcome is therapeutic when a patient remains autonomous.
Often times, this is hindered because a person seeks out healthcare when they can no longer manage
their symptoms on their own (Lindberg, Fagerstrom, Sivberg, Willman, 2014). In order for this
healing interaction to take place, a nurse must recognize that the patient has rights to their own
views, values, and beliefs. The nurse must remain open to the patient s needs in order to
accommodate them effectively. Caring for patients by healing interactions can also be considered
complete according to Ranheim, Karner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of this include giving a patient an injection of heparin after breaking a hip or asking a co
worker to put a gown on in an isolation room. It is crucial that a nurse be competent and caring
enough to explain the purpose of what we do in a respectful manner.
Antecedents and Consequences
Antecedents
According to Brilowski Wendler (2005), the main antecedent of caring was the amount of time a
nurse has to care. High patient to staff ratios make it hard to a nurse to care for a patient in a way
that provides holistic healing. Consequently, dissatisfaction occurs for the patient and they may
perceive this lack of attention as a lack of caring from the nurse.
Consequences
Consequences to caring are generally positive. The main consequence is increased health and
healing for the patient (Brilowski Wendler, 2005). Another positive consequence is a feeling of
power and autonomy for patients. Finally, the patient s perception of the nurse is positively
influenced as they are now viewed as compassionate, competent, and respectful (Brilowski Wendler,
2005).

To What Extent Did Cornelius Vanderbilt Change America
Imagine being alone in the business world, with only $100 in your pocket. What if it was
possible to turn that $100 into 68 million dollars? Cornelius Vanderbilt did just that. With just that
pocket change Cornelius Vanderbilt became a millionaire and a largely known titan of industry.
With his unique business style he became an inspiration to many other competitors and new
companies. Vanderbilt allowed for other people to build up their own success, introduced a new
business style, and even allowed for new inventions that helped change America. Cornelius
Vanderbilt truly is The Commodore. First, Vanderbilt allowed for the other titans to begin their
industries. Since Vanderbilt had control of 40% of the railroads, he had control of shipping
almost all products being made at that time. Without Vanderbilt s railroads, no goods would get to
the families and businesses of America. Also, the stopping of shipment wouldn t allow Standard
Oil or Carnegie Steel to become the popular and wealthy companies they ended up. Vanderbilt also
made arrangements and deals with Rockefeller. Although that deal did not work in Vanderbilts
favor, it did give give Rockefeller a headstart in the business world.... Show more content on

did things such as, closing down the Albany bridge and creating monopolies. These strategies made
the Grand Control Station the largest train station in the world. Biography.com states, Vanderbilt
soon became known for his sharp business acumen . Years later, other business titans also used

The Moonstone
Following the concept of the novel as an epistolary, the prologue is an extract of the family papers
written in India by an unnamed cousin of Herncastle who depicts the events leading up to
Herncastle s looting of the treasury in Seringapatam. The prologue plays an important role in
informing the readers that before the Moonstone goes missing from Rachel s boudoir, it is foremost
stolen from the Indians by an Englishman. By beginning the novelwith a striking... scene of
brutality and greed committed by an English soldier (Free 347), Collins sets the tone of his
argument for the rest of the novel. The fact that it is an Englishman who commits the crime is
crucial. This is significant because Collins was writing The Moonstone during the height of British

Economic Growth And Development Of Latin America Through...
Economic Growth and development of Latin America Through Socialism.
South America is turning to the left this much is widely known. It is due to the socialist ideas and
values that are very old in the Latin American culture. They can be found, according to Hugo
ChГЎvez, in biblical texts, in the Gospel, and in the practices of our indigenous peoples. The
Bolivarian Revolution that started in Venezuelaunder the presidency of Hugo ChГЎvez has
reignited debate in Latin America and internationally on the questions of socialism and revolution
introducing the reflections on class struggle, neoliberalism, counter power, revolutionary parties,
community and communes, economy, politics, society, race and the hopes, and prospects of what
is called Socialism 21st Century in contemporary South America.
Neoliberalism is the deregulation and expansion of the market economy, it includes eliminating
barriers to trade such as tariffs and government subsidies of national industry, and implementing
national policies that favor the needs of business and investment ( Is Capitalism a good ). This in
turn causes a loss in state revenue, which means a loss in the amount of funding available for social
welfare programs. Neoliberalism became dominant in Latin America, especially in the 1990s,
because of the debt crisis, the availability of highly educated technocrats, a new middle class of
entrepreneurs, the failure of import substitution industrialization, and public support. Most Latin

Things Fall Apart
A nation s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people ( Mahatma Gandhi Quotes 1).
The culture of a certain tribe, clan or group of people is not found written anywhere but it is found
in the knowledge of its people because that is what they ve grown up to learn. To them that is the
only way they know. In Chinua Achebes book, Things Fall Apart, the people of Umuofia keep their
culture close to what it was when it was discovered by their ancestors. The only changes that
they made were made to fit the community as time had changed since their ancestors had been
alive. However, their beliefs and morals remained relatively the same because that is what they
have been taught for as long as the Ibo tribe has been around. These beliefs are all they know and
they all live by them. Throughout Achebe s piece, it is evident that he wants to emphasize the
distinct Ibo culture in this book. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe stresses the importance of culture to
a community by using cultural aspects such as, the Ibo language, their religion, and the traditions
of the Ibo people. Although most of this book is in english, Achebe uses the Ibo language to keep
the identity of the culture. By using this language it shows that the people of this tribe use these
words to create a sense of community between the people. All of the words that are in the Ibo
language have a definition specific to the beliefs of their culture. Most of the men of the tribe had a
title of some kind. If

The Consequences Of Capitalism And Authenticity
Capitalism or Authenticity Considering the way in which people live their lives these days, it
can be noted that they are not living a balanced life; if a balanced life is to be considered as the
life which includes both capitalistic involvement and family time in equal portions . Every
average individual favors a capitalistic world, and this desire brings many complications which
result in unbalanced lifestyles. That is mainly because capitalism requires time dedication which
people willingly dedicate, and this obstructs the gateway to the balanced life. Hence, people are
unable to spend an equal amount of time with their families as they are at their workplace.
Families and friends can provide the people with genuine happiness and a stress free
environment, the two factors that capitalism fails in providing even if the people, like Adam
Gopnik, love the career life they re living. people s minds are soaked with the idea that capitalism
will lead them to success, to living the life they want in the future, so they continue to become an
active part of the capitalistic world. However, although capitalism rewards the people with money,
which is the number one concern for many, it fails in rewarding the people with a balanced lifestyle.
Due to the increasing interest in joining the capitalistic life, individuals believe successful
capitalists have to be very productive and so they spend hours and hours of their valuable time
putting their maximum effort in becoming

Analyzing Judy Garland s Song Over The Rainbow
When the song Over the Rainbow is heard, many people can recognize the familiar tune and
lyrics of this nostalgic song. The original singer of this song was Judy Garland. Over the
Rainbow speaks a message that can speak to any person, which has led to numerous artists
covering this song on many different occasions. Two other singers that have covered this song
are Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel Kamakawiwo ole. Each artist brought their own personal emotions
into their performance of Over the Rainbow leading to different interpretations of this beautiful
song. Over the Rainbow was first performed by Judy Garland during the role of Dorothy in the
1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. The song was composed by Harold Arlen specifically for the movie

Israel Kamakawiwo ole had the ability to connect to listeners. While Judy Garland s original
rendition of Over the Rainbow is a beloved classic, Israel Kamakawiwo ole demonstrates the
possibility that a cover of a song can affect listeners in powerful ways similar to the original.
Over the Rainbow has had a powerful influence on listeners for generations. Judy Garland s
version will remain a classic for years to come. Jerry Lee Lewis and Israel Kamakawiwo ole
both brought their own influences to the original song that listeners could appreciate. However,
Israel Kamakawiwo ole proved that a cover of an original song can still touch the hearts of
listeners just as well as the original. Music is an amazing art form that has the ability to connect the
artist and the listener in profound ways. Different artists can bring different viewpoints and

Does joining a minority organization affect the social, mental, and psychological being of minority
students on predominantly white campuses?
In today s society, Predominately white institutions and campus climate can contribute and play a
key role to the success and achievement of minority students. In the twenty first century, African
American (black) students will continue to enroll in predominantly white institutions (PWIs) at
greater rates than black students enrolling at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs);
yet, if this current trend continues, over half of black students at PWIs will fail to persist and

tried to improve and accommodate the comfort levels of minority students in order to shape the
student s overall experience by allowing ethnic and multicultural organizations, establishing
diversity programs and also by hiring minority faculty (Benton, 2001). Most predominately white
institutions try to accept more minority students and adopt more recruitment efforts because they
realize that their school is not diverse and in most cases want a non traditional setting.

Wires by Philip Larkin
WIRES
Wires by Philip Larkin is an analogy of a society trapped by rules and limits and a demonstration
that fear prevents humankind from following their desires. Larkin writes this poem in 1950 with
the idea of showing his point of view of the world. In the poem the cattles are trapped by the wires
imposed, preventing them from ever reaching their search for purer water. He shows that the world
offers no hope nor mercy whatsoever in their trial for escape. What the poet is actually trying to
express is the theme of youth against old and the boundaries that the world presents. Both
mentioned have no escape but the difference is that the young generation does not realize it and life

Though my ears are not exceptionally honed nor trained to point out musical mistakes, I would like
to add that mistakes, if any, were not thoroughly noticeable. The musicians blended well and
produced the right effect based on the musical context. However, when the vocal soloists sang in
the final movement of the Ninth Symphony, their voices were drowned out by the loudness of the
orchestra and large chorus. It did not help that the soloists were located lower than chorus, which
made the perception of hearing the soloists more difficult. The conductor, Hector Guzman, was
effective in leading the music in that whenever the piece called for dynamics, his movements told
the musicians how much more or less it was needed. And also, Mr. Guzman did not just interact
with the orchestra, but the chorus and vocal soloists as well. He seemed to be respected by his

Ankle Sprains Overview Essay
PT Rehabilitation Plan
Ankle Sprains Overview
Ankle sprains have three degrees of injury ranging from 1 3. The level of the ankle sprain is
determined by the amount that the ligament is torn or stretched. A grade one sprain is categorized
as a slight stretching and damage to the fibers of the ligament. A grade 2 sprain is characterized as
partial tearing of the ligament and abnormal laxity of the ankle. A grade 3 sprain is characterized by
complete tear of the ligament if it can be pushed or pulled in certain movements there is gross
instability. The movements of the ankle are abduction, adduction, plantar flexion, dorsiflexion, and
inversion, eversion. The ligaments of the ankle hold the ankle bones and joint into position. These

Medial Ligaments: The deltoid ligaments which are the superficial and deep deltoid ligaments. The
greatest mechanical forces across the ankle joint are directed medially in the normal external
rotation of the foot in walking and running. This is reflected in the strength and thickness of the
deltoid ligament. Biomechanically, the deltoid ligament primarily prevents abduction. After
division of both components of the deltoid ligament, anterior instability of the ankle does not
increase. Once the lateral ligaments are cut, the deltoid ligament acts as a secondary restraint
against anterior translation. The fibular ligament primarily inhibits lateral translation of the talus.
The deep deltoid ligament provides the greatest restraint against lateral translation. In order to tilt
the talus in valgus within the mortise, the superficial and deep deltoid ligaments must be
completely ruptured.
Syndesmosis ligaments of the ankle refers to the membrane connecting the tibia to the fibula. The 3
ligaments are the anterior tibiofibular ligament, the posterior tibiofibular ligament, and the
interosseous tibiofibular ligament. The most commonly injured ligament in syndesmotic sprains is
the AITF ligament. The movement that is allowed with these ligaments is limited due to their
anatomy that allows little range in eversion. These ligaments play little role in the stability of the

Summary Of The Movie Moana
The animated Disney film, Moana, was released in November 2016 and directed by Ron Clements
and John Musker. The thing that sets this film apart from others is that the princess, Moana, doesn t
seek romance to feel full. Instead, this film demands for young children to embrace their family and
community while remaining heroic and authentic to their culture. Moana was an original film,
emotionally engaging, and it stuck to Disney s style while following its own rules. When I first
saw this film, I was relieved by the fact that this Disney princess movie had a romance free plot,
which asserts Moana s individuality and resilience unlike any other Disney characters in the rest of
the films. The directors took the style of a typical Disney princess film and gave it its own twist.
The film consists of the princess learning to lead from her ancestors by respecting her culture and
traditions, while continuing to be a courageous young woman, to help keep the community strong.
Instead of the princess falling in love with a prince, she fights to discover her true identity
throughout the whole film. The definitive themes of cultural appreciation and female
empowerment are what sets this Disney film apart from the rest and helps it become a huge
success. The striking visual imagination and the catchy tunes, which left me humming as I was
leaving the movie theatre, kept me emotionally engaged to this film. The questionable objects

Individuality In Anthem
Ego a person s sense of self esteem or self importance. Also known as the forbidden word of the
totalitarian society created by Ayn Rand in Anthem. In Rand s 1938 novel, her main character,
Equality 7 2125 unknowingly followed the path of individuality, which was against the wishes of
society. Proving that knowledge is a product of the observations and mental integrations of
individuals, he rebelled against the ideals his society chained him with. He found his ego and sense
of self, amidst a world who deemed it a sin to do so. Through the point of view/narration, themes,
characterization and conflicts, Rand wanted to convey the dangers of a failed government, and the
need for individuality.
When beginning the novel, Rand uses a first person point of view, yet instead of the common
plural forms of, I and My , she has the narrator use, We and Our. Equality was taught that
individuality didn t exist, and instead that all men must be alike, therefore there is only, we. Upon
reading this, it seems as if Rand was writing about multiple people, yet this is how the society
must address themselves, because no man gets singled out. The plural forms remain the same,
until the beginning of chapter eleven, where Equality finally discovers the form of, I . This type
of narration allowed the ideals of society to be made apparent, and progressed the plot in Equality s
search of individuality.
Individualism and collectivism are two core themes that are present in the novel. It s as if these
two themes work against each other, in order to obtain individuality, you must get rid of
collectivism, and vice versa. As Equality lives through his days, he discovers his unspoken lover,
the Golden One , and begins to explore egotistical thoughts, where his curiosity grew even greater.
In chapter nine, Equality began finally discovering individuality, where he was torn on finding the
certain word that society had hidden. And we felt torn, torn for some word we could not find.
(Rand 112) In the beginning of chapter eleven, after finding a home from the unmentionable times,
he had discovered individuality within the form of I , and his mind opened up to the many great
things of this world. Equality discovering individuality

chapters, Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time. Billy has gone to sleep a senile widower and
awakened on his wedding day (Vonnegut 23). Throughout the book we are taken on a spastic
and wild journey from one moment in Pilgrim s life to another. For instance, Pilgrim is walking
through the horribly cold, bleak and depressing German landscape with The Three Musketeers
and ends up being dragged by Weary most of the way. As soon as the two scouts ditch him and
Weary and it seems their ordeal couldn t get any worse, Pilgrim time travels to a moment in
which he has just won the Presidency of The Lion s Club and proceeds to gives an impressive
speech. (Vonnegut 48 50). This sort of behavior, completely dissociating oneself from the
horrible situation at hand, is typical of PTSD. Pilgrim wanted to escape completely from the
cold and depressing hell he was in and be back in happiness, where he had just won a successful
campaign for the Presidency of his club. This is what happens throughout the book and it is simply
another example of Pilgrim s widespread and horribly debilitating case of PTSD.

The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism
The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was
woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a
connection to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the
story had hints of association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the
discovery of the body to the flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was
delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he
couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were
quick to jump to conclusions. He got hit pretty hard with something fairly flat, Art. Puts me in
mind of a type of gun butt wound I saw a few times in the war. One of those kendo strikes the
Japs used. Also, even though the Japanese are a main part of the story, they were portrayed as
isolated and reclusive. They were very cold to other people, a result of a mindset of superiority.
As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and distant from others.
Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the book switches time
frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension everywhere. You could
see how this theme had effects on everything in a slightly different manner, depending on the
situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off

The Apartheid in South Africa Essay
The Apartheid started in 1948 when Dr. Malan s National Party beat the United Party who wanted
integration. After the National Party won they had been given the Sauer report, which said that
they had to choose between integration or an Apartheid. They chose the Apartheid which meant
racial segregation of all of the races. They were split into 3 groups black, coloured and white and
they were forced to move to an area specifically designated to their colour. There was petty
Apartheid introduced so that black peoplecouldn t use the same building as white people. This was

South Africa was a piece of land full of economic potential. It contained gold and diamonds
making it popular for anyone who wanted to get cash quick. As soon as gold and diamonds were
found it started a gold and diamond rush so people flocked to South Africa to claim the land as
theirs and become rich, but slowly as people ran out of money the big mining companies bought
out everyone in order to become even richer, and own all the gold and diamonds in South Africa.
One of the biggest diamond mines was Kimberly where diamonds were discovered in 1862. The
economic potential of South Africa led to the Boers trying to take all of the gold and diamonds
away from the native people so it led to Apartheid splitting the native people away from their riches
so that the Boers could get it.
The first people to land in South Africa were the Dutch people that were escaping persecution in
Holland they were called the Afrikaners/Boers and believed that God had chosen them for a
reason and that reason was to find new land and declare it God s. The British also settled there
and kicked the Afrikaners up north, as the British saw this as a chance to get more land for the
British Empire and also maybe some slaves. The British saw it as important because it was between
them and India on the trade route meaning that they should get it because it

people are in love, they don t look at each other: they look in the same direction (Bio. 2016). This
represents how she didn t take all the credit for all the success she had with her career. How her
and her mother looked in the same direction, went after it, and succeeded. It is said that Ginger
credited most of her success to her mom (Ginger Rogers 2016). That Ginger would have never

Essay The Lewis and Clark Expedition
After being issued by President Thomas Jefferson to map, explore, and compile information on
the land just bought through the Louisiana Purchase, Captain Meriwether Lewis and 2nd
Lieutenant William Clark set off on one of the greatest expeditions of all time. This paper will
explore what adversities were faced on the Corp of Discoveries. From militant Indians to
diseases like dysentery, they faced it all. And as Captain Lewis documented, We went as close to
hell as you can go in this lifetime. (11.Perry) On April 30, 1803, the United States bought
828,000 square miles of uncharted land from France. This is known as the Louisiana Purchase. A

Lewis and Clark combined prehistoric gathering of edible plants with the more modern style of
hunting. This created a wide variety in their diet. Their main source of food was from shooting
wild buffalo. Sacagawea also aided them in finding food. Since she was a native of the land, she
knew the vegetation better than anybody. But even with this many resources there were times
when their food supply was low or even deteriorated to the point that several members often
suffered with malnutrition. As bad as this seems, this is just the beginning of their problems. (2.
Delms) (3. Hardships mccarthy) Our next hardship is illnesses. This was a monumental
challenge during that day. Their medical knowledge was very little. Lewis and Clark did carry
medicine with them, but most of it did no good. These diseases included boils, dysentery, frost
bite, appendicitis, tooth aches, mouth sores, cholera, and many more. The only person to die on
the expedition was Sergeant Charles Floyd, and he passed away with appendicitis. Also petty
things like no toothbrushes or unsterile water cause many of the diseases. (2. Delms) (12. Scott)
Weather also gave the crew trouble. Since they did not have the technology we do today, they had
no way of knowing if bad weather was on its way. This served as one of the greatest hardships.
They encountered temperatures ranging from ninety five degrees to negative forty degrees (in
Fahrenheit).

Schiele Vs Kirchner
In the 20th century, Expressionism was booming and artists around the world were expressing
themselves like the world had never seen before. Expressionism is a manner of painting, drawing,
sculpting, etc., in which forms derived from nature are distorted or exaggerated and colors are
intensified for emotive or expressive purposes (Dictionary.com). Artists like Egon Schiele, the artist
of Reclining Woman with Black Stockings, and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the artists of Woman
Sitting, were both pioneers of Expressionism. While both Schiele and Kirchner painted the figure,
they utilized different techniques to create contrasting levels of intimacy. These techniques are
color choice, brush strokes, and composition. Schiele relies on chiaroscuro to... Show more content

The lack of a background draws more attention and emphasis to the woman, therefore creating a
higher level of intimacy. For both artists, they chose to have their subject staring directly into the
viewer s eye, creating a sense of vulnerability and intimacy. It is clear that both artists are
expressing what raw emotion looks like to them. Both paintings are of a woman sitting. She is
clearly the center of attention. Both women are sitting in a rather intimate way. For the woman
in Scheele s painting, she is sprawled out in a way that would be deemed rather provocative to
the culture of the time period. She is also wearing was seems to be a thin silk dress, black
stockings, and heels which leads this painting to be more intimate. Both Schiele and Kirchner were
known to distort the figure. Kirchner utilizes different values and diminishing scale to create
atmospheric perspective. While Kirchner focuses on perspective and creating a background for the
subject, Schiele solely focused on the figure to bring emphasis to the woman. Both Schiele and
Kirchner were known for outlines and distorted figures. As artists, they looked at their subject and
drew them as they were, not as society would want to see

Essay Father and Son
Father and Son Just whom is Edmund Gosse s Father and Son written for? Is it for the Father, or
for the Son, or, as Edmund Gosse tells us, for the public, so they can have a record of life in a
rigidly religious family? Edmund begins his book by telling you that it is a historical record, an
important chronicle that is to be used, basically as a reference for a period of time. Yet, in the
first sentence of the first chapter, we can see that this is truly not his purpose. The first words on
the page does not reference a historical event; they are, instead, cathartic. Edmund tries very hard to
convince his reader that this is not an autobiography (217). Try as he might, he did not persuade me.
I will grant that for Edmund ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not the only narcissistic angle of the book. Even when reiterating episodes in the life of
the Gosse s he does it in reference to himself. If this were to chronicle two temperaments, two
consciences....two epochs there would be more than one perspective. Do we once hear of Philip
Gosse s reactions or feelings about his wife dying? We do not, we merely get the reactions of
what he does from his son. Do we know what he thought those nights alone without his wife? No,
we do not. Edmund did not take the time to find out. He even apologizes when he said, Had I
been older and more intelligent, of course, it might have been him, and not of myself that I should
have been thinking. Yet, still thinking of himself, he states, This is not to be dwelt on here. Of
course it isn t Edmund, it is an autobiography, it is about you.
Edmund, we know would argue that. He tries to take the spotlight off of himself. Being the type of
person that he is, the always goes back to talking about himself. In the last numerical chapter of the
book, Edmund tells of an apocalyptic event, a noteworthy action worthy of ending a book on...his
transcendence into heaven. His epiphany is quickly grounded by reality. Nothing happens. His ego
is shattered. HIS ego, Edmund s ego. This catalytic event puts an emotional and spiritual division
between father and son that puts the thick o the world between them. Although in the Epilogue
Edmund is apologetic

  • 2. Essay on Tim s Coffee Shop Executive Summary Tim s Coffee Shoppe set up outside looks very appealing for customers to go inside and have a cup of coffee. When looking at the inside the atmosphere looks appealing for customers. The business is also open every day from 6am to 2am with a bus stop close to the business so it is easier to get too when not having a vehicle. Notice that the restaurant is located next to the college. With having a coffee shop next to a college this will mostly attract more college students and also with having live entertainment this should get more customers to come in. With the live entertainment I noticed that there is no time schedule to when the live entertainment is going to be at the restaurant it just states that the live... Management Management in Tim s Coffee Shoppe are doing a good job at making sure that the restaurant is passing their inspections, but some of them have slacked on making sure that the employees fill out their time cards correctly. There has been one employee that has received four warnings throughout working at Tim s Coffee Shoppe, this employees warnings involve being rude to the customers and to the other employees that also work there. Most of the employees enjoy working there and with their managers. However there is one employee that felt like she was not going to get anywhere by working so she is going to put her two weeks in so she can go work for one of the competitors. One employee suggests that they need to have better cash registers so they do not have to go through the paper receipts to make sure everything is accounted for at the ending of a shift. With the one person that keeps getting the warnings I suggest of letting him go so there is no more problems between him and the customers or employees. When the one employee suggested that the new owner to get new cash registers I feel that it might be a good idea so it is much easier to keep track of what is being sold. Also to keep better track of the mistakes that might happen during the shifts. Also with having better cash registers the restaurant could always start accepting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Book Reports On The Alchemist Between the summer reading choice and novel synopses, The Alchemist was most interesting to me, but I didn t know what the alchemist was. So I researched on it before I read this book. The alchemist is a person who studies how to transfer metal into gold, so I thought, according to the subject the story would be about a journey of studying how to transfer lead into gold. But my prediction was completely wrong until now. Transforming lead into gold takes just a few parts of the story. The main character, Santiago is a shepherd who is well educated. He is well educated because he was preparing for a prestige. I didn t get why Santiago wants to be a shepherd. The shepherd was a humble career, and prestige was a good career. Shepherds were mostly not educated. The merchant s daughter asked him how did you learn to read. From that question, I learned that Shepherd is not educated. The only good thing about Shepherd is traveling. Just because of the dream, it is not right to change career. If I was Santiago, I would just keep preparing prestige. The dream is a quiet appealing to one s taste, but the dream cannot stop my career. From page 18, Santiago meets an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This moment gave me a lesson. He tried a lot of new things, like selling tea inside the crystal glasses or building a display case outside of shop to improve the crystal shop, but the crystal merchant at first didn t appreciate it. The reason was too small that I laugh at it. The Merchant was scared of the life change. He didn t want to change his life because he was used in current life, but later on he makes one position to begin selling tea in the crystal glasses saying Maktub which means it s written . • 4. The Persistence of Imperialism Essay The Persistence of Imperialism Following World War II, the concrete nature of imperialism, or the subjection of people or groups based on a social, economical, or racial hierarchy, was seemingly in decline. For instance, India and Pakistan had both gained their independence from Britain in 1947 (p.761), and the French, though unwillingly, gave up their colonies in Vietnam (p.754), but with the development of the Cold War there became a need to ideologically separate the free First World , which was made up of western Europe and the United States, from the communist Second World , which was primarily made up by the Soviet Union. This separation unintentionally formed yet another hierarchy, and further perpetuated imperialistic notions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time (1950 1968) the United States was undergoing an anticommunist movement headed by Wisconsin Senator, Joseph McCarthy (Tignor et al., p.770). One of the purposes of this movement was to inhibit the diffusion of communism to former colonial states such as south Vietnam, and was the primary reason the U.S. invaded Vietnam. Though the implicit imperial nature of the invasion eluded U.S. President Johnson, it was quite evident among the countries citizens and civil rights leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who noted this repetitious trend in American values for the past century. In his Beyond Vietnam meeting at Riverside Church , New York, Dr. King took stance that the domestic problems the U.S. was facing was symptomatic of a nature of persistent suppression of other ideas, races, and cultures. He felt that if the U.S. government could overcome these maladies, that the civil rights movement, which was in direct opposition domestic racial imperialism, and the threat of further foreign dispute could be considered a concern of the past. In this, Dr. King speaks out against the imperialistic nature of suppression, in favor of peaceful acceptance. The United States and other former colonizers were not the only culprits in perpetuating imperialistic tendencies during this Cold War dichotomous context. The newly ... • 5. Ideals And Controversies Of National Park Expansion Ideals and Controversies of National Park Expansion Since the early 1920s to the 1970s, there has been a debate regarding the perceptions and standards by which national parks should be established and limiting the expansion of national parks, limiting access for people living in urban areas and threatening open spaces due to urban sprawl and over population. Gradually traditional perceptions gave way to the preservationists viewpoints which redefined and gradually expanded federal definition of national parks. This was to include areas that may not be extraordinarily scenic but still required environmental protection or allowed recreational access for urban citizens, allowing for expansion and more funding. In 1872, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming became the first national park to be established by Congress and President Grant with the signing of the Act of Dedication Law. It followed that any national park established subsequently would be measured against Yellowstone s significance in American culture. (Runte, 2010, p. 190) This is based on its impressive geological features, and majestic and monumental scenery. By the early 1900s, there was controversy surrounding the criteria as to what would define a national park, as President Roosevelt had signed in several tracts of lands as national parks that did not hold scenic value, where not especially expansive tracts of land, and one was utilized as a gaming preserve by a governmental branch. She replies with No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (Baum, Chapter 4) Dorothy thinks that she would be better off away from home before she even arrives in Oz, but as soon as there is a chance that she may not be able to return, she misses it severely. • 10. The Proclamation Of 1763 After The French And Indian War Events The Proclamation of 1763 is Britain s way of keeping colonists off the Indians lands. It was declared after the French and Indian war, on October 7 1763 by King George the third. It s still a fundamental Native American law even today across America and Canada. French and Indian war Also known as the Seven Years War started 1757 and ended 1763. The war was French and Native Americans combined forces against the British, the war lasted seven years. Later in the war the British turned the tables on the French at Fort Frontenac. The war ended when the treaty of Paris was signed, as was the revolutionary war. The sugar act also known as the revenue act was proclaimed in 1764 by parliament. After the first act was to expire this act was a tax on molasses also. It taxed people six pence per gallon of the imported substance. The goal of the act was to raise revenue to help pay for military costs. The Stamp Act was proclaimed in 1765, and it taxed every piece of printed paper. It taxed such goods as dice, playing cards, legal documents, newspaper and almanacs. The goal of the act was to raise money for the Seven Years War. The Townshend act was proclaimed in 1767. The colonists viewed it as an abuse of power after the last acts. The act was eventually repealed but left the tax on tea. Some of the imported items that it taxed were: glass, lead, paints, paper and tea. The Quartering Act was proclaimed in 1765. The act allowed the British soldiers to live in colonist s houses. It also allowed soldiers to eat and drink colonists food. The goal of the act was to keep the uprising of rebels at a low by catching them when the troops moved in, or by overhearing conversations. The Boston Massacre, known as the Incident on King Street by the British happened on March 5 1770. A squad of British soldiers were being attacked by a mob. One of the soldiers fired, which caused others to fire. Over all five died all colonists. The event greatly boosted the revolution. The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773. The sons of liberty boarded 3 ships and dumped tea into the Boston harbor. They did this because of the British oppression. • 12. Characteristics Of Caring For Patients Characteristics of Caring The first characteristic of caring deals with a healing interaction between the nurse and patient that leads to a therapeutic outcome. The outcome is therapeutic when a patient remains autonomous. Often times, this is hindered because a person seeks out healthcare when they can no longer manage their symptoms on their own (Lindberg, Fagerstrom, Sivberg, Willman, 2014). In order for this healing interaction to take place, a nurse must recognize that the patient has rights to their own views, values, and beliefs. The nurse must remain open to the patient s needs in order to accommodate them effectively. Caring for patients by healing interactions can also be considered complete according to Ranheim, Karner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Examples of this include giving a patient an injection of heparin after breaking a hip or asking a co worker to put a gown on in an isolation room. It is crucial that a nurse be competent and caring enough to explain the purpose of what we do in a respectful manner. Antecedents and Consequences Antecedents According to Brilowski Wendler (2005), the main antecedent of caring was the amount of time a nurse has to care. High patient to staff ratios make it hard to a nurse to care for a patient in a way that provides holistic healing. Consequently, dissatisfaction occurs for the patient and they may perceive this lack of attention as a lack of caring from the nurse. Consequences Consequences to caring are generally positive. The main consequence is increased health and healing for the patient (Brilowski Wendler, 2005). Another positive consequence is a feeling of power and autonomy for patients. Finally, the patient s perception of the nurse is positively influenced as they are now viewed as compassionate, competent, and respectful (Brilowski Wendler, 2005). It is due to the socialist ideas and values that are very old in the Latin American culture. They can be found, according to Hugo ChГЎvez, in biblical texts, in the Gospel, and in the practices of our indigenous peoples. The Bolivarian Revolution that started in Venezuelaunder the presidency of Hugo ChГЎvez has reignited debate in Latin America and internationally on the questions of socialism and revolution introducing the reflections on class struggle, neoliberalism, counter power, revolutionary parties, community and communes, economy, politics, society, race and the hopes, and prospects of what is called Socialism 21st Century in contemporary South America. The culture of a certain tribe, clan or group of people is not found written anywhere but it is found in the knowledge of its people because that is what they ve grown up to learn. To them that is the only way they know. In Chinua Achebes book, Things Fall Apart, the people of Umuofia keep their culture close to what it was when it was discovered by their ancestors. The only changes that they made were made to fit the community as time had changed since their ancestors had been alive. However, their beliefs and morals remained relatively the same because that is what they have been taught for as long as the Ibo tribe has been around. These beliefs are all they know and they all live by them. Throughout Achebe s piece, it is evident that he wants to emphasize the distinct Ibo culture in this book. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe stresses the importance of culture to a community by using cultural aspects such as, the Ibo language, their religion, and the traditions of the Ibo people. Although most of this book is in english, Achebe uses the Ibo language to keep the identity of the culture. By using this language it shows that the people of this tribe use these words to create a sense of community between the people. All of the words that are in the Ibo language have a definition specific to the beliefs of their culture. Most of the men of the tribe had a title of some kind. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Summary Of The Movie Moana The animated Disney film, Moana, was released in November 2016 and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The thing that sets this film apart from others is that the princess, Moana, doesn t seek romance to feel full. Instead, this film demands for young children to embrace their family and community while remaining heroic and authentic to their culture. Moana was an original film, emotionally engaging, and it stuck to Disney s style while following its own rules. When I first saw this film, I was relieved by the fact that this Disney princess movie had a romance free plot, which asserts Moana s individuality and resilience unlike any other Disney characters in the rest of the films. The directors took the style of a typical Disney princess film and gave it its own twist. The film consists of the princess learning to lead from her ancestors by respecting her culture and traditions, while continuing to be a courageous young woman, to help keep the community strong. Instead of the princess falling in love with a prince, she fights to discover her true identity throughout the whole film. The definitive themes of cultural appreciation and female empowerment are what sets this Disney film apart from the rest and helps it become a huge success. The striking visual imagination and the catchy tunes, which left me humming as I was leaving the movie theatre, kept me emotionally engaged to this film. The questionable objects personified in the film, which gave a surrealist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Individuality In Anthem Ego a person s sense of self esteem or self importance. Also known as the forbidden word of the totalitarian society created by Ayn Rand in Anthem. In Rand s 1938 novel, her main character, Equality 7 2125 unknowingly followed the path of individuality, which was against the wishes of society. Proving that knowledge is a product of the observations and mental integrations of individuals, he rebelled against the ideals his society chained him with. He found his ego and sense of self, amidst a world who deemed it a sin to do so. Through the point of view/narration, themes, characterization and conflicts, Rand wanted to convey the dangers of a failed government, and the need for individuality. When beginning the novel, Rand uses a first person point of view, yet instead of the common plural forms of, I and My , she has the narrator use, We and Our. Equality was taught that individuality didn t exist, and instead that all men must be alike, therefore there is only, we. Upon reading this, it seems as if Rand was writing about multiple people, yet this is how the society must address themselves, because no man gets singled out. The plural forms remain the same, until the beginning of chapter eleven, where Equality finally discovers the form of, I . This type of narration allowed the ideals of society to be made apparent, and progressed the plot in Equality s search of individuality. Individualism and collectivism are two core themes that are present in the novel. It s as if these two themes work against each other, in order to obtain individuality, you must get rid of collectivism, and vice versa. As Equality lives through his days, he discovers his unspoken lover, the Golden One , and begins to explore egotistical thoughts, where his curiosity grew even greater. In chapter nine, Equality began finally discovering individuality, where he was torn on finding the certain word that society had hidden. And we felt torn, torn for some word we could not find. (Rand 112) In the beginning of chapter eleven, after finding a home from the unmentionable times, he had discovered individuality within the form of I , and his mind opened up to the many great things of this world. • 38. Billy Pilgrim s Struggle with PTSD in Vonnegut s... In order to illustrate the devastating affects of war, Kurt Vonnegut afflicted Billy Pilgrim with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which caused him to become unstuck in time in the novel. Billy Pilgrim illustrates many symptoms of PTSD throughout the story. Vonnegut uses these Slaughterhouse Five negative examples to illustrate the horrible and devastating examples of war. The examples from the book are parallel to real life experiences of war veterans, including Vonnegut s, and culminate in a very effective anti war novel. Vonnegut writes, in one of the very first chapters, Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time. Billy has gone to sleep a senile widower and awakened on his wedding day (Vonnegut 23). Throughout the book we are taken on a spastic and wild journey from one moment in Pilgrim s life to another. For instance, Pilgrim is walking through the horribly cold, bleak and depressing German landscape with The Three Musketeers and ends up being dragged by Weary most of the way. As soon as the two scouts ditch him and Weary and it seems their ordeal couldn t get any worse, Pilgrim time travels to a moment in which he has just won the Presidency of The Lion s Club and proceeds to gives an impressive speech. (Vonnegut 48 50). This sort of behavior, completely dissociating oneself from the horrible situation at hand, is typical of PTSD. Pilgrim wanted to escape completely from the cold and depressing hell he was in and be back in happiness, where he had just won a successful campaign for the Presidency of his club. This is what happens throughout the book and it is simply another example of Pilgrim s widespread and horribly debilitating case of PTSD. The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a connection to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the story had hints of association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the discovery of the body to the flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were quick to jump to conclusions. South Africa was a piece of land full of economic potential. It contained gold and diamonds making it popular for anyone who wanted to get cash quick. As soon as gold and diamonds were found it started a gold and diamond rush so people flocked to South Africa to claim the land as theirs and become rich, but slowly as people ran out of money the big mining companies bought out everyone in order to become even richer, and own all the gold and diamonds in South Africa. One of the biggest diamond mines was Kimberly where diamonds were discovered in 1862. The economic potential of South Africa led to the Boers trying to take all of the gold and diamonds away from the native people so it led to Apartheid splitting the native people away from their riches so that the Boers could get it.
