Tomb Guard Research Paper
Obviously, the Tomb of the Unknown is heavily guarded at all times, even during the atrocious
weather that comes upon Washington, D.C. In the year of 1948, the Third Infantry, also known as the
Old Guard, had received the responsibility of guarding the most important tomb in Arlington National
Cemetery. The Third Infantry is very important because it is the only infantry unit allowed to march
with bayonets on the rifles. Primarily, the Third Infantry s responsibility are duties, for example,
conducting all military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, providing protection for the capitol
building and providing an escort for the president of the United States. The most important honor that
can be given to any soldier of the Third Infantry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

achievement was, There is no higher honor. I can t think of anything greater to do for my country

The Theme Of Deceived Love In Gabrielle Roy s The Tin Flute
French canadian author Gabrielle Roy dedicated her work to the illustration of the working class in its
daily whereabouts. Her novels show a raw reality combined with great sensibility. Her first book, The
Tin Flute is set in Montreal, in St Henri s neighbourhood where we follow the tribulations of young
waitress Florentine Lacasse. The story takes place during the Second World War. One of the main
themes of The Tin Flute is love, deceived love. Around this main theme revolve other motives such as
family, dispossession, war, loneliness and many more. This love that was deceived is exploited
throughout the novel by its descriptions, various dialogs and it s incarnation in the characters
themselves. The original French title, Bonheur d occasion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, Jean tells Florentine that he is not her boyfriend and implies that marriage is not
something he would commit to. He could not provide Florentine what he himself was deprived from
all his life. She symbolizes the life he has struggled to escape from: Florentine s image might fade in
his memory, [...] never would he forget the horrid poverty that had been the setting of their moment of
love. (211). Emmanuel s feeling for Florentine alters his perception of her and he grows confused
between his idealisation of her and the real life Florentine; Had he been wrong about all those
evenings when he had, in his fancy, danced with her, chatted with her, [...]. Did she correspond to his
dreams, [...] or was she quite different, and he would have to teach her to love him? (293). The
protagonist, Florentine is herself this deceived love. She is cheated and in order to amend her heart,
she deceives the heart of Emmanuel. Another character, whose feelings are in a certain way deceived,
is Yvonne. Indeed, the heroine s little sister offers to dedicate her life to God in exchange for him to
cure Daniel. Each character of The Tin Flute embodies love in their own

Vimy Ridge Outline
Veni, Vidi, Vici Vimy
(following the outline plan given in 3.10)
Introduction Paragraph:
World War 1, defining moment for Canadian nationalism. Did not escape unscathed, but the
participation in the war gave a stronger sense of nationhood.
Canada s contributions into WWI led to international recognition; other countries must recognize you
as sovereign.
The effort also brought acknowledgement to Canada s contributions and heroism on the battlefields of
Europe, giving Canada the shot to be a more mature, experienced nation because of the sacrifices
made by their armed forces.
The Battle at Vimy Ridge was the greatest assertion in Canadian sovereignty in WWI.
Body Paragraph 1:

Whenever the Germans found the Canadian Corps coming into the line they prepared for the worst.
Body Paragraph 3:
April 12, Hill 145 fell, Vimy Ridge was won over by Canadian troops. The whole plan was entirely
devised by Canada and was independent of British thoughts.
The success in the capture of the ridge earned Canada a reputation of great strength and
accomplishment, and it was also the first time that Canada had ever planned its own attack without
British help. It was the first step towards Canada s independence and sovereignty.
Even under British rule, Canadian troops planned, rehearsed, followed through, and defeated the
Germans at Vimy Ridge under the command of Canadian officers and officials.
Although the victory came with a great cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded, it helped
prove Canada in front of other world countries.
Concluding Paragraph:
I believe that the effort put into it by Canada gave the world a chance to recognize Canada s
contributions and heroism after the battles they fought and won on the European battlefields.
Canada was given the chance to be perceived as a mature, wiser nation through the sacrifices it made
during the war.
The Battle at Vimy ridge was the exceptional proclamation of Canadian sovereignty in WWI.

Students Should Not Use Personal Electronics
Students Should Be Allowed to Use Personal Electronics in Class
As technology keeps advancing and becoming more influential in our lives, the question that arises is
whether or not it should be used in education. Should students be allowed to bring in and use their
personal electronic devices in class? Some people believe that the use of personal electronics in class
is disruptive. School should be a place where children learn to socialize and develop their thinking
abilities along with other necessary life qualities; yet electronic devices limit the development of those
essential characteristics. However, although many people believe that this integration is detrimental,
many others still see great benefits to implementing technolo

. . For example, simulations that present objects that move in an idealised Newtonian world and help
students visualise vectors can have strong positive out comes on learning (Roschelle, 261). Roschelle
s words do not only apply to computers but also to personal laptops, iPads, and cellphones. There are
also students that are more auditory learn ers, these online books bring options in which the student
can listen to the material. In class teachers can let their students use headphones and listen to the
textbook on their own devices.
Students can also look up key words easily by typing them in to the glossary or the search bar in the
book. Already those are many advantages that students cannot get when learning from only their
textbooks. Sarah Henderson and Jeff Yeow state that, a lot of educational technology is built from a
behaviorist perspective. Behaviorism posits that learning is manifested by a change in behavior, and
that the environment determines these changes (iPad education, 1, 2). The en vironment has obviously
been changing over the past 20 years. It has brought us some excellent and modern changes to educate
our children through the use of electronic devices and we should definitely take advantage of this.
In 2002, people thought that these devices were not making communication efficient.
They believed that teachers and schools did not know how to effectively use these personal de vices.

The Outbreak Of The War
The outbreak of the war prompted the formation of numerous women s voluntary organizations, and a
number of women worked to extend women s role. In 1942 defense ministers and others finally
considered to form WAAC to substitute men in the army. The bill took a year to pass. The WAAC only
lasted until 1943 because of the newly founded group WAC. The Women s Army Auxiliary Corps
benefited women s rights, how women got to be accepted in society , and most importantly what the
women did to help make the country stronger. Thanks to the honorable Edith Nourse Rogers a
congress women from Massachusetts introduced the first bill to establish a women s auxiliary in May
of 1941. This bill didn t get passed by congress until May of 1942. They ... Show more content on

They also made mutton broth, beef tea, potato pie, and duff pudding. They even served foods that are
familiar to us today like stew and even curry. The food that women cooked for men on the front line
was often better quality than the food that men ate back home. Men at war consumed 4,600 calories a
day. The women cookings in the canteens were told to make the food feed as many men as possible.
They had tricks to make the food more bulk so the men would be more full from smaller portions.
Women would dip bacon and other meats into oatmeal or flour to make it thicker and used other
techniques such as putting old bread into water and baking the bread again in the oven for an hour.
Many women were asked to undertake office jobs. Women received 24 shillings for unskilled work
but up to 48 shillings for jobs which required specific skills like shorthand or typing. One of the many
jobs that had been an unthinkable idea prior to the outbreak of the war was women working on cars.
By 1916 women had been given the task of repairing motor vehicles which had been broken down.
Later they started to work with mechanics to identify what problem it had. They built
rifles, bombs, ammunition and much more equipment needed. The WAAC opened up doors to jobs that
the women wouldn t usually have. They soon let African American women work in the factories and
science labs as well. This gave the women more confidence in and outside of the work place. Women

It would be a mistake, for instance, to treat software as a good simply because it was contained in a
tangible medium that fits within that category. This would conflate the sale of a book with the sale of

use of the expressions contained in the volume. A website created under arrangements calling for the

Benefits Of Investing A Mutual Fund
!!!What Are Mutual Funds?
Before we go over when to buy and sell a mutual fund, let s discuss exactly what a mutual fund is. A
__mutual fund__ is simply a pool of money from different people like you; it is professionally
managed with the purpose of investing in different securities. The business or bank that manages a
mutual fund and attempt to produce income for investors is referred to as a __money manager__.
Since mutual funds are professionally managed, they are ideal for a person who has very little
knowledge of investing.
There are several advantages of investing in a mutual fund. The biggest advantage is the
diversification it offers. One mutual fund might invest in stocks of large companies and others may
invest in U.S. Treasury bills. Whatever the mutual fund offered by the bank is investing in, each
investor in the fund shares in the fund s gains or losses. It is important to remember that mutual funds
are not stocks, they are portfolios of things like stocks and bonds.
!!!Choosing A Mutual Fund
In business or even in life, the quality of management plays a direct role on the success of the venture.
The quality of management offered for a mutual fund is no different. In the investment world, mutual
funds are either actively managed or indexed. __Actively managed funds__ uses more human capital
to actively manage a fund s portfolio, they use expertise and research to determine what securities to
buy or sell. __Indexed funds__ are the opposite of active,

Essay about The Truth of Thanksgiving
The Truth of Thanksgiving While children are growing up in America, they are told several tales of
America s establishment and history. However, these stories are generally not told as they actually
happened. An instance of this is the story of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is
explained as this elaborate ceremony where the Pilgrims and Indians gathered in harmony at this large
harvest in celebration of their coming together. According to the primary document of William
Bradford s journal, Thanksgiving didn t pan out quite as it is explained to Americans today. In the
film, The Addams Family Values, the Addams children take part in a traditional, yet misconceived
celebration of the first Thanksgiving. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The performance chosen was a reenactment of the first Thanksgiving. The cool kids were cast as the
Pilgrims, while Wednesday and her friends were cast as the Native Americans. Wednesday is actually
cast in the lead role of Pocahontas. In the beginning of the dinner performance, the Pilgrims give a
speech regarding the Native Americans as savages and explain how they should become Pilgrims. In
the end, the Native Americans do not enjoy a pleasant meal with the Pilgrims. Instead, they revolt,
burning down the Pilgrims homes and torturing their families. Many aspects of this film are worthy of
analysis. The dual depiction of the Addams family is worthy of noting. The Addams family is
portrayed as savages. They are shown as living very differently from the typical American family.
They reside in a Gothic like castle, bury their pets alive, eat squirrel, etc. Interestingly, the family is
actually from Europe, specifically France. The Addams family takes on a dual role of Native
Americans (their savage description) and Europeans (their European background). When they send
Wednesday and Pugsley to Camp Chippewa, it is actually considered to be the camp for American s
privileged children (Addams Family Values). This is a Native American based camp, yet the early
Native Americans were not in anyway considered privileged by the Europeans due to their primitive
way of living. When all the children take part in the typical Indian activities, the

Examples Of Estella In Great Expectations
Imagine living a luxurious, wealthy life full of money and possessing everything desired at any given
time. This utopia may sound like an enjoyable experience, however, it would be contained of personal
and emotional hardships. These everyday struggles introduce themselves when the owner of such
wealth realizes that those riches can generate loneliness or great sadness. This concept of negative
consequences resulting from occupying wealth is expressed in Charles Dickens novel, Great
Expectations. Dickens utilizes Estella, a cold hearted, ill mannered protagonist to portray that even
with all the accessible wealth in the world, it is still possible not to discover happiness and respect for
others. Dickens idea is conveyed through Estella s personality, reckless attitude, and as well as Miss
Havisham, Estella s adopted mother. One of the main ways that Estella s unhappiness is conveyed
throughout the novel is through her personality. Estella is often viewed as impolite or unsympathetic
towards others, especially men. As a young child, Estella was constantly inhospitable to Pip, the main
protagonist. For example, when he would attempt to socialize, Estella simply replies with, He calls the
knaves, jacks, this boy! (70) She would criticize him on his appearance, exclaiming, And what coarse

Billy Gibbons Research Paper
Legendary Beard Fact: In 1984 Gillette offered Billy Gibbons and ZZ Top bandmate Dusty Hill
$1,000,000 to shave their beards in a commercial. He turned them down cold, and wouldn t do it today
for even twice the price. The reason? He dreads the thought of seeing his naked face in a mirror! He
said he was afraid he looked to much like Vincent Price.
Billy Gibbons is perhaps as famous for his chest length beard as he is for his music. As the founding
member of iconic Texas blues rock band ZZ Top, Billy, along with bandmate Dusty Hill have two of
the most famous beards in rock and roll. The third member of the group, ironically, named Frank
Beard, is the only member sporting a naked chin.
Billy started life as William Frederick Gibbons in Houston, TX, in 1949, son of Lorraine and
Frederick Royal Gibbons. He was born into a musical family, as his father was an orchestra leader and
concert pianist. Frederick worked, along with his cousin, legendary set decorator Cedric Gibbons, for
Sam Goldwyn at MGM Studios in Hollywood. The first instrument to pique young Billy s interest was
the drum, and his father sent him off to New York City to study with Tito Puente, the King of Latin

Dorothea Lynd Dix Research Paper
From the early years of her youth, Dorothea Lynd Dix endured more than her fair share of burdens and
obstacles. While growing up in Maine throughout the early 1800 s, her journey began with her
impoverished, dysfunctional family. Dorothea s father, Joseph Dix, was an unstable religious preacher
and her mother, Mary Bigelow, suffered from a mental illness and remained emotionally distant (Staff,
History.com 2009). Growing up as the eldest, Dorothea felt a responsibility to take great care of her
siblings and family. Ultimately, her family s shortcomings and her compassion were what fueled her
desire to help the less fortunate and helpless.
With limited schooling and access to job professions as a female, Dorothea still exhibited a passion for
education and learning. As she grew older, she acted upon her passion and became a schoolteacher for
children who needed an education. She even worked to develop and open up various schools for
children and each with an established curriculum (Staff, History.com 2009). However, after
experiencing serious episodes of sickness, she stopped her teaching and began to write educational
textbooks for the youth instead, some of which were published in the late 1820 s to the 1840 s (Wood,

The Federalist Papers
Introduction
The Federalist Papers present a series of essays written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and
John Jay. This volume of eighty five essays, written between October 1787 and May 1788, is perhaps
the most famous, and at the same time the most important newspaper column ever published. These
essays are considered to be among the most important documents of the Founding period, together
with the Constitution and Civil Rights Act. In these essays the authors provided facts and justification
for the Constitution, with also raising and discussing some of the most important political issues of the
time. The sole purpose for writing the essays was to convince people of the State of New York to
ratify the U.S. Constitution. People of New York and its political leaders were strongly against the
Constitution and they firmly opposed new government. The main reason for that is the fact that the
State of New York gain independence under the Articles of Confederation and was becoming rich
trough the trade. The citizens of this state believed that they have no interest in ratifying the
Constitution and joining the Union.
The writers of The Federalist Papers were very concerned that because of New York s reluctance and
decided to take the matter into their hands and came all the efforts in order to change their minds.
They were very well aware of the relationship between human nature and popular government.
Hamilton, Madison and Jay were apprehensive of the ethics of the

Socrates’ Speech in Apology
Aristophanes Clouds, if read hastily, can be interpreted as a mindless satyr play written in 419 BCE.
Yet the chorus warns the reader not to expect the play to have farcical ploys like a hanging phallus
stitched on the actors to evoke a laugh, but has underlying seriousness as she [the play] comes in
trusting only her words (Clouds 538 44). Even if the play does use some low devices, the play s
message is sophisticated and can be read as a warning to Socrates. Aristophanes is a friendly critic of
Socrates and warns Socrates to change his ways for Athens and for the good of himself (Whidden).
Plato s Symposium and especially his Apology of Socrates justify the claims made in Clouds about the
dangers of philosophy and Socrates to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are referred to as a voice that Socrates hears, not unlike a conscience, that turns me [Socrates]
away from whatever I am about to do, but never turns me forward (Apology 31d). Socrates uses that
as the reason why he never got into politics, as the majority rule is usually against his own code of
morals (31d). Socrates is not exactly godless or immoral for he would not condemn a group of
prisoners without trying them separately. His whole care is to commit no unjust or impious deed
(32d). Socrates may have moral standards, but perhaps his followers would not. This leads into the
charge that he corrupts the youth, for if Socrates can question the gods, they can too. Athenians acted
out of fear of heavenly retribution, not morals (Whidden). Those youth found it acceptable to do
whatever they wanted because of the apparent lack of gods and thunderbolts coming down from the
heavens to smite those who deserve justice. Clouds Socrates argues, If in fact he [Zeus] strikes
perjurers, then how is it that he did not burn up Simon, or Cleonymus or Theorus? Yet they are
vehement perjurers. But he strikes his own temple and Sunium, the cape of Athens, and tall oak trees.
Why? (Clouds 398 402).
Those youths have mimicked Socrates style of rhetoric and argument. Pheidippides is an extreme
satiric version of these sophists, as he uses the weaker speech to justify why he has beaten his father

1914-1945 Women s Roles
Throughout 1914 to 1945, the role of women changed immensely. During the 20th century, the role of
women evolved, from the nurtures and home makers and was expected that their objective in life was
to get married, bare kids and devote their entire life to their husbands. But during World War 2 with
the fast, growing incline of need for soldiers proved that women had to participate in jobs which were
usually only consisted of men. After WW 2 with all the soldiers returning from war, a lot of women
were fired to re employ men and women were expected to go back to the roles of a housewife. Before,
during and after WW 2, the role of women changed indefinitely and shaped today s society. Before
World War 2, A women s role was patronizing and sexist.

The Five Stages Of Listening
There are five stages of listening, receiving, understanding, remembering, evaluating, and responding.
The five stages overlap. In receiving, you need to focus your attention, maintain your role and avoid
assuming that you understand. In understanding, it is important that you see the speaker s messages
from their point of view. It is also helpful to rephrase their message to be clear and also ask questions
to clarify or confirm that you understand their message. The third stage is remembering, you need to
focus on the main idea, organize what you hear, combine what you knew previously and repeat
important information to yourself such as names and information. Next is evaluating, you should wait
until you fully understand what the speaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mother then, closes her laptop and asks my father to repeat his question. She heard: what was the

Facebook, was the mental distraction. My mother could have said, please turn the TV down, and
looked directly at my father while he spoke. She did neither, until she ask him to repeat his question.
She only did this after, she questioned his response (this time, he did turn the TV down and she had
his full attention). My second example, is lack of appropriate focus. In this example, my mother is

Epistemology or theory of knowledge is a branch of philosophy related to the scope and nature of
knowledge. The subject focuses on examining the nature of knowledge, and how it relates to beliefs,
justification, and truth. Epistemology contract with the means of production of knowledge, as well as
skepticism about different knowledge claims. Epistemology is the philosophical investigation into this
question: What can we know? The question, at first, seems pretty simple: It seems pretty obvious that

The school is best understood as the product of two movements in ancient Greek philosophy.
Skepticism can be attributed to Socrates and to Plato s successors at The Academy in Athens (5th to
2nd century BC). Pyrrhonism can be traced back to Pyrrho of Ellis(365 275 BC). Skepticism can be
found in many other schools of ancient philosophy from Heraclitus to Cyrenaics and the Cynics
Socrates was placed at the origins of Skepticism. It was understood that he only asked questions and
never taught positive doctrines, many sought to attempt to make sense of his seemingly paradoxical
claim that the one thing he knew was that he knew nothing. (Gascoigne, 2002) Plato and Aristotle
strayed from Socrates path when they claimed to know the truth. Plato viewed knowledge as an
awareness of absolute and existing independent of any subject trying to apprehend to the philosophers.
Though, Aristotle put more emphasis on logical and empirical methods for gathering knowledge.
Aristotle still accepts the view of such knowledge is an apprehension of necessary principles. Around
the Renaissance period, the two main epistemological positions dominated in philosophy are
empiricism, in which sees knowledge as the product of sensory perception, and rationalism sees
epistemology as the product of rational reflection (Tempo). Another philosopher by the name of
Arcesilaus, gave a renewed form of skepticism, arguing against the opinions of all men. Arcesilaus
also claimed that skeptics could make

The Article, Stereotypical Constructions Of The Maori ...
The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall
(1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand had on
the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the stereotypical
Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities, including the way
Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The article talks about
representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori Renaissance (in particular its
effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media.
In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She
mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the
construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is also a
new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the
unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the identity
of specific Maori.
Wall speaks about four main Maori stereotypes within the Media; The Comic Other, The Primitive
Natural Athlete, The Radical Political Activist, and The Quintessential Maori. These are shown in
fairly modern contexts as well as earlier contexts.

Heli Skiing Research Paper
What is Heli skiing?
By Pete Malcolm
Aug 24, 2012
Imagine yourself being ferried by one of those gondolas at a ski resort. You see slopes that look like
totally awesome places to ski. You ask the guide whether you ll be skiing there and he curtly replies
No, and he points you in the other direction where you see natural scenery with a variety of
landscapes. That s where you ll be skiing. So what is heli skiing? It s getting on a helicopter and then
going to that radical wilderness site to ski. No rules, no artificial snow blowers and nobody to tell you
what you can or you can t do. It s about finding that extreme location via a chopper, getting dropped
off and totally going for it.
There are two types of heli skiing, the US/Canadian model and the European model. The US/Canadian
model is pretty much like your normal routine skiing venue, except that your site is way off limits and
practically unfettered by human existence and you get to be brought by the chopper again and again to
your starting point. The chopper is acting like your normal ski lift.
The European model is similar though much more exhausting because of the length of travel that you
have to make. The chopper drops you down on your starting point and then you proceed to meet it at

guide is not just your friendly advisor, the guide is the one who will point out the best route for you

The New America Dream is Green (and Sustainable) Essay
Smallville is a city just like any other city in the world. It has crime, pollution, and social inequalities.
However citizens everywhere are dreaming of the future. The reason people came to Smallville, or
America, in the first place was to live the American Dream. This idea is that if a person works hard
enough they can be or achieve anything they want. However, the current system of selfishness and
ignorance of the masses has led to the destruction of this idea. In order for these dreams to survive,
Smallville needs to promote change. There needs to be more information about the effects people have
on their communities and the environment. There needs to be a shift towards long term sustainability.

Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the United
States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It basically means
that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to as the American
Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek to make
themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and accepting
there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that everyone
needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing that needs to
change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect themselves and
those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot easier. Then the
next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they live their lives. Each
citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and overall lifestyle habits.
Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they realize how connected to
the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can learn what they need to do to fix
it. One thing they could do to fix it is practice vegetarianism. They could also walk to work or the
stores instead of using their car. Finally, the government needs to be involved

How Did Gregor Mendel Changed The World Of Genetics
Gregor Mendel was born in Austria of 1822. His parents were mostly farmers where he spent most of
his time outside. He became very interested in plants, trees, and fruits. As Mendel grew older, he
became an Augustinian monk and a botanist. A botanist is a person who studies in the field of plants. (
Early Life 2016 para 3) During this time, Mendel was able to conduct his famous experiment. His
work was not confirmed until the 1900 s when three scientists, Erich Tschermak, Hugo de Vries, and
Carl Correns verified it. This was the beginning of Mendel s experiment that changed the world of
genetics forever ( Gregor Mendel 2003 2016, para 3). Mendel chose to use pea plants for his

Our hair color is determined on how our parents hair color is. For example, if both of your parents
were homozygous dominant for brown hair, the probability of your hair color to be brown is one
hundred percent which also makes you homozygous dominant. Yet, if one of the parents were
heterozygous for blonde hair, the child would have a possibly chance to have blonde hair instead of
brown. But in order to figure out why we have similar characteristics as our parents and siblings,
Mendel decided to use a punnett square to see the different offspring. Instead of finding why we have
similar characteristics as our family, Mendel tested this on pea plants instead. He crossed tall and short
pea plants of the parents to see the first generation of children. In order to do this, he used an
abbreviated allele code for tall (TT) and another for short (tt). The punnett square helped give us a
visual picture of what Mendel was doing which supported Mendel s Law of Dominance. In
conclusion, Mendel chose to use pea plants for his experiment because they reproduce quickly, he
developed laws that formed the foundation of modern genetics, and he chose different traits to help
support the idea of his experiment. Mendel s experiment is important because we can see why traits
skip generations and how others are getting discrete traits. His experiment is also important in the
development of inheritance and genetics because

Protagonist In Hamlet Essay
In every tale, story, novel, or play, there are different types of characters. In the play Hamlet, written
by William Shakespeare, the character Claudius is seen as an antagonist. An antagonist is always the
negative character. Antagonists are known to always go against the protagonist, in this case it is
Hamlet. In the beginning of Hamlet, the character Claudius is known as the man who took over the
role as king to Denmark after his brother, King Hamlet, had died. King Hamlet was also Hamlet s
father and soon after his death, Claudius was quick to marry his own sister in law, Gertrude. When
getting more into the play, the audience learns the truth behind King Hamlet s death. Claudius had
poisoned and murdered his own brother. Claudius was very manipulating. For example, throughout act
4, most of Claudius s motives were to manipulate the people of Denmark in order to get what he
wanted for himself. In act 4 scene 3 he manipulates the people of denmark in order to send Hamlet
away because of his crimes. He wants them to believe that he is sending Hamlet away for the better,
but in reality he is trying to get what he wants and send Hamlet away to get killed. In act 4 scene 5 his
main motive at this point is to get rid of Hamlet no matter the circumstances. Claudius teams up ...

Active Learning Techniques Provide Opportunities For...
Massey, Brown, and Johnson (2005) suggested that active learning techniques provide opportunities
for faculty to increase social presence, engage students, and positively enhance performance. Studies
have shown that students tend to learn more when they actively participate in the learning process
through discussing, practicing, reviewing, and applying knowledge to develop new meanings
(Mcalpin, 2015). Maki and Maki (2007) found that online instruction required the application of
strong methodology along with providing students with opportunities to interact with each other and
the instructor. Aside from purposeful course design, active learning in an online course requires
instructors to be actively involved in the learning process (Gayton McEwen, 2007; Young, 2006). This
involvement includes, but is not limited to, minimal participation in discussion boards, course
announcements, e mail, and other forms of web based communication (Dixon, 2010). However
Dennen, Aubteen Darabi, and Smith (2007) warned that too much active participation by the instructor
has been shown to result in decreased student participation. The purpose of this study was to design an
asynchronous online course that integrates active and engaging learning strategies tied to social
presence theory to increase student satisfaction, retention, and to serve as a model master course for
other online instructors at Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC). This paper provides

Such events that are included are: the child s attaining a specified age or income level, dying,
marrying, leaving school, leaving the spouse s household, or gaining employment. Whether such event
is certain or likely to occur is not considered in determining the contingency.
A similar case to Maria s is presented in the court case, Heller v. Commissioner, T.C. Memo 1994 423
(1994). Heller (the petitioner) received certain payments from her former husband, some of which
were designated as spousal support and the remaining were designated as child support. Heller
received $1,700 per month as spousal support, none of which was reported on her tax return. The
divorce instrument stated that future spousal support would be reduced by any court mandated
increase in child support.
The Court cited Sec. 71 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code and said that the provision which allows
spousal support to be decreased by future court mandated increases in child support is not considered
a contingency related to a child. The Court then ruled that the payments received by the petitioner for
spousal support should have been included in her tax return and constitutes taxable alimony.
Maria s situation is similar to the Heller case. The increase in child support from a court order is not
considered a contingency related to a child and does not decrease alimony. Therefore, as it was also

General Mcauliffe s Defeat In The Battle Of Bastogne
In the midst of Battle of the Bulge, the Germans needed to establish one last major offensive attack in
order to seize the Belgian town of Bastogne and to push the Allied front line west of France. However,
the United States and Allied Forces were already making efforts in retaining key intersections of
Bastogne that provided the only means of mounted maneuver through the dense and mountainous
Ardennes Forest. In an attempt to prevent casualties of war, General Heinrich Freiherr, commander of
the German forces, sent an ultimatum to the American commander of the 101st Airborne Division,
Brigadier General Anthony C. McAuliffe. The written demand ordered to surrender in two hours or
U.S. troops would face total annihilation from six battalions of armor and artillery. The U.S. general
replied with one word that became the most memorable replies in history, NUTS! The general s reply
was interpreted to mean, to go to hell. On December 20th of 1944, the German army launched the ...

Military Drinking Age
Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered
Jason M. Stoudt
DeVry University
The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the rest of the country.
There has been an age old statement widely used by those in the military, If I am old enough to fight
and die for my country, I should be old enough to drink . The debate is out there that the drinking age
should be lowered for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that
younger people tend to have less responsibility and are not good candidates for being allowed to drink
is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in that respect for the fact that they have
more responsibilities than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the examples that is used to show that lowering the drinking age to 18 years of age is a bad
thing is a panel that was done in 1975 to 1993. In this panel they surveyed 39 states that had lowered
the drinking age to 18 yrs old between the 1970 s and the 1980 s. The mortality rate for those states
included in the study showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor
vehicle accidents had risen substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night. When the drinking
age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had dropped back to a lower level as it had before
the age was lowered. The documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are
allowed to drink the death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are raised. Now
the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has increased slightly only due to the fact
that the younger population now allowed to drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter
Dobkin, 2011). Simply stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of
them get into accidents with motor vehicles while intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in the case that
there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are still getting into the same type
of accidents. Also considering the level of technology that is current in the world today

A Clear Midnight By Walt Whitman
The poem A Clear Midnight by Walt Whitman is only one quatrain, yet the poem enacts a threshold
experience. The time of midnight is the transition from one day to the next. Whitman uses this
moment as a metaphor from corporal existence to spiritual existence. Whitman describes this
transition to be clear as nothing is hidden nor feared. Whitman is trying to correspond the inner and
outer world, the physical and spiritual worlds. To achieve this harmony, Whitman seems to address his
soul; the soul being the idea that connects the physical and spiritual world. One may believe that
Whitman wants the poem to be trigger to his soul dwelling in eternity. A Clear Midnight is
contemplative and deals with the vast subject of human s nature to wonder. This poem is a ... Show

This is the entirety of the poem, the interaction between his physical body and his spiritual soul.
Whitman is essential judging the deepest part of himself, his soul. The soul is so deep that you need
everything quite and peaceful just to think about it. Whitman is looking at his true self, not physical
but spiritually. Whitman is thinking about his essence, what truly make Whitman who he is. The
theme of A Clear Midnight is the connection between life and spirit and how we understand that to be.
As humans, our knowledge of the spiritual world is limited. All humans know about is the physical
world, how things look and how the work. But, human have the wisdom to acknowledge that there is a
spiritual side. The poem is saying that this spiritual side show our true self, and how is it is difficult to
look into. In A Clear Midnight , everything in the world has to calm and quite just to even think about
this spiritual side. Whitman shows that this spiritual side is hard to comprehend and understand as
physical humans. Yet, this complex side of people means the most to humans. It shows how you think
and why you think it, the true man that you

Futurism And Advertising In The 1960s Space Age

Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age
Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement
ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed, technology,
youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the movement would
have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately overarching each
other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not limited to conventional
mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and photography; just to name a
few. With its dynamic and innovative aesthetic qualities, it is still being appreciated and used in
conceptual ways by a handful of present day designers and art directors as seen in Image 1 (MCM ...

Essay Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction
Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD, but commonly referred to as heart failure) is a chronic,
progressive cardiac syndrome in which a damaged heart fails to beat efficiently and deliver enough
blood to meet the body s needs. Although coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause,
for example, myocardial infarction, and many of the conditions are intertwined, there are several other
causes of heart failure including cardiomyopathies, hypertension and valve disease.
Cardiomyopathies can be caused by genetic disorders/defects, viral illness, some endocrine
conditions, autoimmune diseases, and excessive use of alcohol and drugs. Pharmacology treatment of
diagnosed LVSD is predominately the same, although it is recognised ... Show more content on

Some family members had sudden early deaths and no other current family members identified with
the deficient gene showed signs and symptoms of heart failure.
Mutations and misprints of gene MYBPC3 have also been shown to be present in individuals with
HCA (Zaragoza et al, 2007) but this was not identified in Jane or her extended family. Some family
members had sudden infant/young deaths, and as mentioned earlier, some carried the defective gene
with no obvious problems. This leads us to the suggestion that perhaps environmental factors could
also have contributed to the homeostatic imbalances Jane was experiencing.
Morita (2005) stated that recent insights into molecular genetic causes of myocardial diseases have
highlighted the importance of single gene defects in the pathogenesis of heart failure . The information
we can collect from investigation of gene defects, and an understanding of how genetics contributes to
the development of heart failure, will ultimately help in prevention, treatment and possibly cure of
cardiomyopathies in the future but we must also consider the environmental factors role.
Events which are thought to cause hypertrophy to develop

Summary Of The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake
William Blake was a poet who was born in November 1757 and passed away August 1827. William
was a very religious Christian who was born in London to James and Catherine Blake. At the young
age of four, William was convinced that he was seeing visions of God along with other religious
beings such as angels. According to a small biography on poets.org, these visions included God
putting his head to William s window and a tree full of angels in a meadow. Because of these visions,
Blake s parents decided it would be best to homeschool him, so he learned to read as well as write
from his parents. This truly goes to show that you don t possess an elegant education to be an
immense writer. As he aged, William s poetry grew to be about topics that were important to him such
as politics, war, but more importantly, religion.
Many of William Blake s poems include themes of religion, The Lamb and The Tyger are no
exceptions. The Lamb is one of William s poems written in 1789. This is a poem about all of the
wonderful, bright, Godly conditions in the world. Blake uses the characteristics of the Lamb in the
poem to establish an uplifting, fluffy mood, such as in the three lines, Gave thee clothing of delight,
Softest clothing wooly bright; Gave thee such a tender voice. This poem is undoubtedly centered
around a child educating a lamb on the ways of God as well as religion. It may seem like the theme,
including my interpretation, is all personal, but it is confirmed when the

Hypnopedia In Brave New World
The novel, The Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley, is set as a modern day perfect society.
All humans are taught before, they are born, how to think, and, as they grow up, that everyone is
everyone belongs to everyone else (Huxley) (Page 43). As we ponder the thought of this perfect
society we realize there are similarities between us and the Brave New World. But along with those
differences there are also countless differences such as technology and medical advances. In the Brave
New World, technology is used for hypnopedia. Which is the idea that a person can learn explicit
subject matter while sleeping. This is used to promote economic stability and control emotions.
Huxley states hypnopedia is the greatest moralizing and socializing

Did not escape unscathed, but the participation in the war gave a stronger sense of nationhood. Canada s contributions into WWI led to international recognition; other countries must recognize you as sovereign. The effort also brought acknowledgement to Canada s contributions and heroism on the battlefields of Europe, giving Canada the shot to be a more mature, experienced nation because of the sacrifices made by their armed forces. The whole plan was entirely devised by Canada and was independent of British thoughts. The success in the capture of the ridge earned Canada a reputation of great strength and accomplishment, and it was also the first time that Canada had ever planned its own attack without British help. It was the first step towards Canada s independence and sovereignty. Even under British rule, Canadian troops planned, rehearsed, followed through, and defeated the Germans at Vimy Ridge under the command of Canadian officers and officials. Although the victory came with a great cost, with more than 10,000 killed and wounded, it helped prove Canada in front of other world countries. Concluding Paragraph: I believe that the effort put into it by Canada gave the world a chance to recognize Canada s contributions and heroism after the battles they fought and won on the European battlefields. Canada was given the chance to be perceived as a mature, wiser nation through the sacrifices it made during the war. Students Should Not Use Personal Electronics Students Should Be Allowed to Use Personal Electronics in Class As technology keeps advancing and becoming more influential in our lives, the question that arises is whether or not it should be used in education. Should students be allowed to bring in and use their personal electronic devices in class? Some people believe that the use of personal electronics in class is disruptive. In the end, the Native Americans do not enjoy a pleasant meal with the Pilgrims. Instead, they revolt, burning down the Pilgrims homes and torturing their families. Many aspects of this film are worthy of analysis. The dual depiction of the Addams family is worthy of noting. The Addams family is portrayed as savages. They are shown as living very differently from the typical American family. They reside in a Gothic like castle, bury their pets alive, eat squirrel, etc. Interestingly, the family is actually from Europe, specifically France. The Addams family takes on a dual role of Native Americans (their savage description) and Europeans (their European background). When they send Wednesday and Pugsley to Camp Chippewa, it is actually considered to be the camp for American s privileged children (Addams Family Values). • 21. The Federalist Papers Introduction The Federalist Papers present a series of essays written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay. This volume of eighty five essays, written between October 1787 and May 1788, is perhaps the most famous, and at the same time the most important newspaper column ever published. These essays are considered to be among the most important documents of the Founding period, together with the Constitution and Civil Rights Act. In these essays the authors provided facts and justification for the Constitution, with also raising and discussing some of the most important political issues of the time. The sole purpose for writing the essays was to convince people of the State of New York to ratify the U.S. Constitution. People of New York and its political leaders were strongly against the Constitution and they firmly opposed new government. The main reason for that is the fact that the State of New York gain independence under the Articles of Confederation and was becoming rich trough the trade. The citizens of this state believed that they have no interest in ratifying the Constitution and joining the Union. The writers of The Federalist Papers were very concerned that because of New York s reluctance and decided to take the matter into their hands and came all the efforts in order to change their minds. Yet the chorus warns the reader not to expect the play to have farcical ploys like a hanging phallus stitched on the actors to evoke a laugh, but has underlying seriousness as she [the play] comes in trusting only her words (Clouds 538 44). Even if the play does use some low devices, the play s message is sophisticated and can be read as a warning to Socrates. They are referred to as a voice that Socrates hears, not unlike a conscience, that turns me [Socrates] away from whatever I am about to do, but never turns me forward (Apology 31d). Socrates uses that as the reason why he never got into politics, as the majority rule is usually against his own code of morals (31d). Socrates is not exactly godless or immoral for he would not condemn a group of prisoners without trying them separately. His whole care is to commit no unjust or impious deed (32d). Socrates may have moral standards, but perhaps his followers would not. This leads into the charge that he corrupts the youth, for if Socrates can question the gods, they can too. Athenians acted out of fear of heavenly retribution, not morals (Whidden). Those youth found it acceptable to do whatever they wanted because of the apparent lack of gods and thunderbolts coming down from the heavens to smite those who deserve justice. Clouds Socrates argues, If in fact he [Zeus] strikes perjurers, then how is it that he did not burn up Simon, or Cleonymus or Theorus? Yet they are vehement perjurers. But he strikes his own temple and Sunium, the cape of Athens, and tall oak trees. Why? (Clouds 398 402). Those youths have mimicked Socrates style of rhetoric and argument. In receiving, you need to focus your attention, maintain your role and avoid assuming that you understand. In understanding, it is important that you see the speaker s messages from their point of view. It is also helpful to rephrase their message to be clear and also ask questions to clarify or confirm that you understand their message. The third stage is remembering, you need to focus on the main idea, organize what you hear, combine what you knew previously and repeat important information to yourself such as names and information. Joseph Ransford PHI208: Ethics and Moral Reasoning (GTP1306D) Michele Clearman Warner 03/12/13 Epistemology or theory of knowledge is a branch of philosophy related to the scope and nature of knowledge. The subject focuses on examining the nature of knowledge, and how it relates to beliefs, justification, and truth. Epistemology contract with the means of production of knowledge, as well as skepticism about different knowledge claims. Epistemology is the philosophical investigation into this question: What can we know? Skepticism can be attributed to Socrates and to Plato s successors at The Academy in Athens (5th to 2nd century BC). Pyrrhonism can be traced back to Pyrrho of Ellis(365 275 BC). Skepticism can be found in many other schools of ancient philosophy from Heraclitus to Cyrenaics and the Cynics Socrates was placed at the origins of Skepticism. It was understood that he only asked questions and never taught positive doctrines, many sought to attempt to make sense of his seemingly paradoxical claim that the one thing he knew was that he knew nothing. (Gascoigne, 2002) Plato and Aristotle strayed from Socrates path when they claimed to know the truth. Plato viewed knowledge as an awareness of absolute and existing independent of any subject trying to apprehend to the philosophers. Though, Aristotle put more emphasis on logical and empirical methods for gathering knowledge. Aristotle still accepts the view of such knowledge is an apprehension of necessary principles. Around the Renaissance period, the two main epistemological positions dominated in philosophy are empiricism, in which sees knowledge as the product of sensory perception, and rationalism sees epistemology as the product of rational reflection (Tempo). The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall (1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities, including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media. In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the identity of specific Maori. This idea is that if a person works hard enough they can be or achieve anything they want. However, the current system of selfishness and ignorance of the masses has led to the destruction of this idea. In order for these dreams to survive, Smallville needs to promote change. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the United States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It basically means that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to as the American Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek to make themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and accepting there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that everyone needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing that needs to change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect themselves and those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot easier. Then the next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they live their lives. Each citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and overall lifestyle habits. Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they realize how connected to the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can learn what they need to do to fix it. Our hair color is determined on how our parents hair color is. Yet, if one of the parents were heterozygous for blonde hair, the child would have a possibly chance to have blonde hair instead of brown. But in order to figure out why we have similar characteristics as our parents and siblings, Mendel decided to use a punnett square to see the different offspring. Instead of finding why we have similar characteristics as our family, Mendel tested this on pea plants instead. He crossed tall and short pea plants of the parents to see the first generation of children. In order to do this, he used an abbreviated allele code for tall (TT) and another for short (tt). The punnett square helped give us a visual picture of what Mendel was doing which supported Mendel s Law of Dominance. In conclusion, Mendel chose to use pea plants for his experiment because they reproduce quickly, he developed laws that formed the foundation of modern genetics, and he chose different traits to help support the idea of his experiment. Mendel s experiment is important because we can see why traits skip generations and how others are getting discrete traits. Massey, Brown, and Johnson (2005) suggested that active learning techniques provide opportunities for faculty to increase social presence, engage students, and positively enhance performance. Studies have shown that students tend to learn more when they actively participate in the learning process through discussing, practicing, reviewing, and applying knowledge to develop new meanings (Mcalpin, 2015). Maki and Maki (2007) found that online instruction required the application of strong methodology along with providing students with opportunities to interact with each other and the instructor. Aside from purposeful course design, active learning in an online course requires instructors to be actively involved in the learning process (Gayton McEwen, 2007; Young, 2006). This involvement includes, but is not limited to, minimal participation in discussion boards, course announcements, e mail, and other forms of web based communication (Dixon, 2010). However Dennen, Aubteen Darabi, and Smith (2007) warned that too much active participation by the instructor has been shown to result in decreased student participation. The purpose of this study was to design an asynchronous online course that integrates active and engaging learning strategies tied to social presence theory to increase student satisfaction, retention, and to serve as a model master course for other online instructors at Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC). The Court cited Sec. 71 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code and said that the provision which allows spousal support to be decreased by future court mandated increases in child support is not considered a contingency related to a child. The Court then ruled that the payments received by the petitioner for spousal support should have been included in her tax return and constitutes taxable alimony. Maria s situation is similar to the Heller case. The increase in child support from a court order is not considered a contingency related to a child and does not decrease alimony. • 41. General Mcauliffe s Defeat In The Battle Of Bastogne In the midst of Battle of the Bulge, the Germans needed to establish one last major offensive attack in order to seize the Belgian town of Bastogne and to push the Allied front line west of France. However, the United States and Allied Forces were already making efforts in retaining key intersections of Bastogne that provided the only means of mounted maneuver through the dense and mountainous Ardennes Forest. In an attempt to prevent casualties of war, General Heinrich Freiherr, commander of the German forces, sent an ultimatum to the American commander of the 101st Airborne Division, Brigadier General Anthony C. McAuliffe. The written demand ordered to surrender in two hours or U.S. troops would face total annihilation from six battalions of armor and artillery. The U.S. general replied with one word that became the most memorable replies in history, NUTS! The general s reply was interpreted to mean, to go to hell. • 42. Military Drinking Age Drinking Age of the Military: Should it be Lowered Jason M. Stoudt DeVry University The drinking age in the military is currently set at 21 years old as it is set for the rest of the country. There has been an age old statement widely used by those in the military, If I am old enough to fight and die for my country, I should be old enough to drink . The debate is out there that the drinking age should be lowered for all young adults from 18 years old to 21 years old. The idea behind the fact that younger people tend to have less responsibility and are not good candidates for being allowed to drink is a valid point. Those serving in the military are different in that respect for the fact that they have more responsibilities than that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the examples that is used to show that lowering the drinking age to 18 years of age is a bad thing is a panel that was done in 1975 to 1993. In this panel they surveyed 39 states that had lowered the drinking age to 18 yrs old between the 1970 s and the 1980 s. The mortality rate for those states included in the study showed that once the drinking age was lowered the fatality rate from motor vehicle accidents had risen substantially; most of the fatal accidents were at night. When the drinking age was raised back to 21 years old the fatality rate had dropped back to a lower level as it had before the age was lowered. The documentation shows that when those that are 18 to 21 years old are allowed to drink the death rate from alcohol consumption in motor vehicle accidents are raised. Now the death rate for those that are over the age of 21 years old has increased slightly only due to the fact that the younger population now allowed to drink has been introduced into the equation (Carpenter Dobkin, 2011). Simply stating that because they are allowed to drink at 18 years old and that some of them get into accidents with motor vehicles while intoxicated on alcohol is irrelevant in the case that there is evidence in the report that those that are over 21 years old are still getting into the same type of accidents. Also considering the level of technology that is current in the world today ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Clear Midnight By Walt Whitman The poem A Clear Midnight by Walt Whitman is only one quatrain, yet the poem enacts a threshold experience. The time of midnight is the transition from one day to the next. Whitman uses this moment as a metaphor from corporal existence to spiritual existence. Whitman describes this transition to be clear as nothing is hidden nor feared. Whitman is trying to correspond the inner and outer world, the physical and spiritual worlds. To achieve this harmony, Whitman seems to address his soul; the soul being the idea that connects the physical and spiritual world. One may believe that Whitman wants the poem to be trigger to his soul dwelling in eternity. A Clear Midnight is contemplative and deals with the vast subject of human s nature to wonder. The theme of A Clear Midnight is the connection between life and spirit and how we understand that to be. As humans, our knowledge of the spiritual world is limited. All humans know about is the physical world, how things look and how the work. But, human have the wisdom to acknowledge that there is a spiritual side. The poem is saying that this spiritual side show our true self, and how is it is difficult to look into. Futurism And Advertising In The 1960s Space Age Teresa Koh Futurism and Fashion Final Paper Jessica Glascock 12/09/2015 Futurism and advertising in the 1960s space age Futurism was an artistic and social movement originating from 20th century Italy. The movement ultimately rejected anything that looked to the past for identity. Instead, it glorified speed, technology, youth, and the idea of anything industrial and mass produced. As the founders of the movement would have it, the movement explored different mediums of art and design, ultimately overarching each other, and finding its way into many aspects of daily life; including and not limited to conventional mediums such as painting, sculpture architecture, film, music, poetry, and photography; just to name a few. • 45. Essay Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD, but commonly referred to as heart failure) is a chronic, progressive cardiac syndrome in which a damaged heart fails to beat efficiently and deliver enough blood to meet the body s needs. Although coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common cause, for example, myocardial infarction, and many of the conditions are intertwined, there are several other causes of heart failure including cardiomyopathies, hypertension and valve disease. Cardiomyopathies can be caused by genetic disorders/defects, viral illness, some endocrine conditions, autoimmune diseases, and excessive use of alcohol and drugs. Some family members had sudden early deaths and no other current family members identified with the deficient gene showed signs and symptoms of heart failure. Mutations and misprints of gene MYBPC3 have also been shown to be present in individuals with HCA (Zaragoza et al, 2007) but this was not identified in Jane or her extended family. Some family members had sudden infant/young deaths, and as mentioned earlier, some carried the defective gene with no obvious problems. This leads us to the suggestion that perhaps environmental factors could also have contributed to the homeostatic imbalances Jane was experiencing. Morita (2005) stated that recent insights into molecular genetic causes of myocardial diseases have highlighted the importance of single gene defects in the pathogenesis of heart failure . The information we can collect from investigation of gene defects, and an understanding of how genetics contributes to the development of heart failure, will ultimately help in prevention, treatment and possibly cure of cardiomyopathies in the future but we must also consider the environmental factors role. Events which are thought to cause hypertrophy to develop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Summary Of The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake William Blake was a poet who was born in November 1757 and passed away August 1827. William was a very religious Christian who was born in London to James and Catherine Blake. At the young age of four, William was convinced that he was seeing visions of God along with other religious beings such as angels. According to a small biography on poets.org, these visions included God putting his head to William s window and a tree full of angels in a meadow. Because of these visions, Blake s parents decided it would be best to homeschool him, so he learned to read as well as write from his parents. This truly goes to show that you don t possess an elegant education to be an immense writer. As he aged, William s poetry grew to be about topics that were important to him such as politics, war, but more importantly, religion. Many of William Blake s poems include themes of religion, The Lamb and The Tyger are no exceptions. The Lamb is one of William s poems written in 1789. This is a poem about all of the wonderful, bright, Godly conditions in the world. Blake uses the characteristics of the Lamb in the poem to establish an uplifting, fluffy mood, such as in the three lines, Gave thee clothing of delight, Softest clothing wooly bright; Gave thee such a tender voice. This poem is undoubtedly centered around a child educating a lamb on the ways of God as well as religion. It may seem like the theme, including my interpretation, is all personal, but it is confirmed when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
