John Rowe Townsend once argued that the only practical definition of a children s book is one that
appears on the children s list by a publisher. Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction
any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak s Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book
for both children and adults, and J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter series is available in adult and children s
versions with the only difference being the book s cover art. While folk and Fairy Tales were not
originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children s literature since the early
nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written for and widely read by children during the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are considered historical children s literature today and are read
almost exclusively by adult scholars of children s literature. Children s literature has been written,
illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to children for their
edification and entertainment. Generally speaking, it is the intended audience rather than the producers
of the texts who define the field. Children s texts written by child or adolescent authors, such as Daisy
Ashford s The Young Visiters(1919) or Anne Frank s Het Achterhuis (1947; The Diary of a Young
Girl, 1952), are exceptions to the rule. Many famous children s authors, such as Louisa May

Elephants mean Exosphere, In means Ionosphere, Mexico means Mesosphere Okay, that s rash. But

period of time starting with the concept of steam being able to move an item, to the invention of the
first working prototype, and ending with a fully functional steam engine. The steam powered
locomotive was one of the first forms of transportation to use this type of technology changing
America and the world forever. This revolutionary piece of machinery was one of the groundbreaking

regulations and legal factors are assessed in terms of their ability to influence the business
environment and trade markets (Makos, 2014). Factors like political stability, tax guidelines, trade

According to Teresa Cederholm (2014), it took three years for the global airline industry to recover the
6% decline in revenue between 2000 and 2001. The US airline industry revenue decreased by $107.1
billion in 2002 from $130.2 billion in 2000. Passenger traffic decreased by 5.9% year over year in
2001 and 1.4% in 2002.
As a result of this and the recent Paris attacks from the ISIS terrorists group, there have been a major
decline in air travel.
Another factor is the prolonged recession, which has also adversely affected air travel because people
have cut vacations from their expenses.
Because of advances in security by the FAA, the operating costs at airports have increased (Google

What Was The Purpose Of The Asch Experiment
In chapter 5 of the textbook we learn about various groups and what they represent. A social group is
two or more people who identify with and interact with one another (Macionis 108). We also learned
about several different experiments and the understanding of each. Social groups are very important.
In the text book we learn about two different experiments. The Asch experiment includes a group of
students asking to compare two cards and to choose something on the card that matches the second
card. Many people in the experiment matched it correctly. Also there were people that would
constantly match the wrong ones on purpose. The purpose of the experiment was to recognize if any
of the participants of the experiment felt awkward during it. First of all they felt pressured to answer
correctly. Often when you are in a group of people you don t know you want to be as smart as you
can. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this experiment participants would either be the teacher or the learner. The learned was strapped
down to a shock chair and was challenged by the teacher to answer questions or understand different
things by the teacher. If the learned failed to answer correctly they were automatically shocked and the
more they got wrong the higher the voltage was. Milgram s purpose of the experiment was to notice
any increase in knowledge by the Learner. For example, did the learner try to answer more questions
correctly considering the learner was getting

Cost Accounting And Lean Management
Cost accounting is a process of recording, classifying, analyzing, summarizing allocating and
evaluating various alternative courses of action and control of costs. Cost accounting involves the
techniques for:
Determining the costs of products, processes, projects, etc. in order to report the correct amounts on
the financial statements, and
Assisting management in making decisions and in the planning and control of an organization.
While cost accounting is often used within a company to aid in decision making, financial accounting
is what the outside investor community typically sees. Financial accounting is a different
representation of costs and financial performance that includes a company s assets and liabilities. Cost

It is a continuous effort to improve products, services, or processes, which require incremental
improvement over time in order to increase the quality and efficiency of the process.
Lean management looks for different ways to eliminate factors that waste time, effort or money. This
is achieved by analyzing a business process and then revising it or cropping out any steps that do not
create value for consumers. Lean Management philosophy is based on the idea that organizations
should set their strategies according to what the consumers really value, systematically eliminating
waste both within the firm and along the process of supply chain. Many companies when
implementing the Lean Management ideology complains that traditional Management Accounting
Systems are unable to support their projects. At best, they are perceived as bureaucratic tasks, and at
worst, they are considered a key constraint to both the acceptance and success of lean projects
implemented in their organizations. The failure of these traditional Management Accounting tools and
techniques has led to management consultancies in coming up with and developing a few range of

they are so hard to open I don t know how teachers expect us to open these lockers, get our books, talk
with friends, and go to the bathroom (if you need to ) and get to class early in just two minutes. Also I
have no friends and I don t know this school. I hate high school and I will never ever like it.

we were a group of friends, and that one day we excluded her.We told her that we were sorry and that
we could be friends again she accepted the offer and we became the best group of friend in the entire
year.
On our senior year of high school Amber moved away and Hannah and I didn t hang out much

inside it and found Amber I was shocked to find her so I walked up to her, she saw me and startled she
she jumped back, saw it was me and ran to hug me,all of a sudden I found myself in my room layign

The Characters Personalities in Grendel and Beowulf ...
The book Grendel, written by John Gardner, and the poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney,
both have very distinct opinions on what role each character plays. The translator of Beowulf and the
writer of Grendel follow the idea that everyone has a story. A story is the writer s perspective on a
character s personality, the way people in the story see and treat the character, and the way it ties the
ideas together. There are many examples in these two writings of this concept, but the main instances
connect with the lives of Grendel, Beowulf, and Unferth. Our first character, Grendel, is an
exceptionally diverse character. It is implied that in both book and poem, Grendel is a blood thirsty
monster. All Grendel does is go through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way of thinking leads Grendel to be the assassin we know him as today.
A great character to include in this topic is Unferth. Unferth is a very out of the ordinary individual. In
Beowulf, the writer s perspective on Unferth is a pathetic warrior who couldn t win even the simplest
of fights. When first introduced in the poem Beowulf, it s hard to feel sympathy for Unferth because
he is in verbal conflict with Beowulf, insulting Beowulf. When switching to the outside view in the
book Grendel, it becomes apparent that Unferth isn t just doing this to pick a fight. Grendel has been
his arch enemy ever since the twelve year war started. Unferth was embarrassed and infuriated in his
first meeting with Grendel when Grendel said I m going to carry you back to Hrothgar, safe and sound
(p.90). The other people in the book think he s supposed to be the savior of the kingdom, yet he can t
even come close to killing Grendel and when he does attempt to kill Grendel, Grendel just laughs and
teases him. This idea of embarrassment drives Unferth mad with rage. When Beowulf comes along, he
claims that he has done all these heroic and outstanding things. He makes the claim that Grendel is
hardly a work out which infuriates Unferth. He has worked so hard to get revenge on Grendel and a
warrior came from a distant land and claims to kill him like it is nothing. It is not

The Epic of Gilgamesh
What Meets The Eye
In today s day and age, literature and media have ample effect on how our society influences
individuals. Women are perceived as sexual objects, but have the ability to persuade and influence the
male character in literature. The Epic of Gilgamesh portrays the significance ancient Mesopotamian
Literature has made on the social image that women possess pertaining to sexuality and appearances
to the public eye in modern culture. In Gilgamesh, the harlot Shamhat held a reputation proving that
women are only represented in one way. To support this argument, many aspects such as defining the
Male Gaze, heroism, and how women influence the main character, all prove how poorly women are
portrayed in literature and furthermore in modern media and culture. The Epic of Gilgamesh focuses
mainly on the two male protagonists Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Shamhat was later introduced into the
story as a temple prostitute that had the reputation of taming wild beasts (Martin 103). She
domesticates Enkidu into the ways of humankind using seduction, but as the story continues, it shows
how truly important Shamhat s position is in the epic. Shamhat, in her role, is a generous force that
brings knowledge and progress to a strong hero preparing him for the many tribulations ahead. One of
the aspects we fail to recognize in Mesopotamian literature, let alone all literature of the world, is the
heroic roles of women. In Women in the African Epic, Joseph L. Mbele states,

Importance Of Thanksgiving In 1777
The Continental Congress announced a Thanksgiving for the thirteen colonies in 1777, but it was only
a regional holiday. So in 1789, President George Washington declared Thursday, November 26 to be a
day of public thanksgiving and prayer. For the next two centuries, days of thanksgiving were

Until Sarah Josepha Hale, author of the nursery rhyme Mary had a Little Lamb, and editor of Godey s

Navajo Code Talkers
During World War I the military utilized American Indian language to have a secure code. This
allowed for secure communications while conduction operations throughout Europe. Prior to the onset
of World War II Adolph Hitler and the Japanese sent students to the United States to study Indian
languages to break the unbreakable code; this lead to the development of a new language utilizing the
Navajo language. Those who served their country were known as the Code Talkers.
The first 29 recruits were sent to military training in San Diego CA in May of 1942. Following the
completion of their training they were tasked with developing a written language for Navajos. ... Show

They were given a transmission to get from one unit to another. The Code Talkers successfully
translated, transmitted and retranslated a test message in two and a half minutes. Without using the
Navajo code, it could take hours for a soldier to complete the same task. (CIA, 2008) With the success
of this test Navajos begin to be deployed in every major operation in the Pacific theater.
Major Howard Connor, who was the signal officer of the Navajos at Iwo Jima, said, Were it not for the
Navajos, the Marines would never have taken Iwo Jima. (CIA, 2008) Japanese were skilled at
breaking codes developed by the Army and Air Corp but failed to break the code utilized by the
Marines and the Navajo Code Talkers. The code was so complex and detailed that you had to be
trained as a Code Talker to be able to fully understand.
The Japanese took a non code trained Navajo soldier captive while serving in Japan. As a POW he
was forced to listen to recordings of the Navajos speak in code. Although he spoke the language he
was unable to decipher the code and give the Japanese the means to decipher it. After his release he
eventually met a Code Talker. His statement to them was I never figured out what you guys who got

Every country can have several or a specific genre of music that symbolizes their culture and
background: whether it be complicated rhythms, conflicted dissonance in the melody, or a basic
harmony to back up the melody, it signifies the culture making their own music unique and opposing

Essay on lumbar disc problems
lumbar disc problems Summary
The lumbar region of the human spine is a location that is very susceptible to injury and trauma. A
majority of the population experience back pain at some time during their life, and although in most
cases the pain subsides after a time of rest, there is an enormous need for treatment of this malady. The
various types of treatment for lumbar disc herniations include a more conservative method of rest,
physical therapy, and anti inflammatory or non steroidal drugs. A more extreme condition would
require surgery to try to alleviate the symptoms. The older, more traditional surgery is a posterior

These nerves travel to the lower extremities cause a dull ache and sometimes numbness or loss of
strength. The nerve most commonly affected by a disc herniation is the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve
originates between the third sacral(S 3), and fourth lumbar(L 5) vertebrae, is formed in the pelvis and
exits through the greater sciatic foramen towards the gluteal region. It then travels laterally underneath
the piriformis muscle towards the pudendal nerve, then divides travels anteriorly down the leg until it
divides near the knee into the politeal and tibial nerves(Shanahan, 1997).
A term herniated disc is used synonymously with ruptured or prolapsed discs. They describe a
protrusion of the nucleous propulsus through the annulus fibrosus upon the spinal cord. Commonly
herd terms such as a slipped or a bulging disc refer to the disc being close to herniation, but still
remaining intact. In this case, the nucleus propulsus is contained, however, the contortion can still lead
to decreased foraminal space, and sciatic nerve irritation. The symptoms for bulging or slipped discs
are similar to those for a herniated disc, but are usually milder and less intense, thus requiring more
conservative treatments(Shanahan, 1997).
An estimated eighty percent of the population suffers at least one episode of back pain in their life,
and in as many as fifty

Women Among Roles, Power, And Rights Essay
The Women Among Roles, Power, and Rights in Islam. Since the mention of women in an Islamic
context brings the notion that women under the Islamic cover live an oppressive, unfair, and
patriarchal lifestyle. Defending this situation, Amina Wadud in her book Qur an and Woman, Muslim
progressives have since quite a while ago contended that it is not the religion but rather a patriarchal
elucidation and usage of the Qur an that has kept women mistreated. Wadud sees that the sacred texts
are not the problem source for the oppression that women experiencing under Islam, she believes that
who interpreting them and how they were interpreted are the sources of the problem. Her book
challenges the false concepts held by many Muslims (concepts that do not reflect Quran and Islam)
such as: men are superior to women , men are in charge of women , men are natural leaders , men rule
the family and should get obedience from women , women should not leave the house unless it is
necessary , woman s voice is taboo , etc. The author breaks down specific verses and key words that
have been used to oppress and limit women, to show that their real meaning defies such oppression
and limitation. Wadud indicates that the misogynist notion regarding Islam was created by the
patriarchal and frequently unpleasant society toward ladies; individuals in intense positions, similar to
say, male religious pioneers, would have each motivation to translate the Qur an similarly. Along

The Personification Of Death In The Seventh Seal And Everyman
Everyman is a morality play from the 15th century with no known author, and The Seventh Seal is a
1950 s fantasy film about a knight returning from the Crusades. Although the timelines for these two
pieces don t match up, they share a lot of similarities: the most prominent of which being the
personification of death into a character. Both pieces feature death as an ever present entity and
solidify the inevitability of death. However, through the characterizations of death within these two
pieces, the two offer differing views on the role of religion in human mortality, and the creators offer
interesting views of human relationships with death himself. One of the initial confrontations with
death in both pieces features the concept of delaying death. In Everyman, the titular character is
confronted by death as God s messenger and he initially attempts to bribe death. However, death states
Everyman, it may not be by no way. / I set not by gold, silver, nor riches, / Nor by pope, emperor,
king, duke, nor princes (124 6). By stating this, the author further highlights the inevitability of death.
Following this statement, Everyman is given the opportunity to find those who would walk with him
to face death, thus delaying his demise. Similarly, Antonius Block, of The Seventh Seal, attempts to
play chess with death in order to, at least initially, delay his perishing. Both characters become focused
on beating death in some way, but the results further substantiate death s

criteria of a hero.
You Only Live Twice directed by Lewis Gilbert and Casino Royale directed by Martin Campbell show
the character of James Bond to have the characteristics that make up a hero. It is questionable
throughout both texts if James Bond is actually a hero. During both texts Bond foils plans that would
cause havoc for regular civilians, for example, in You Only Live Twice Bond stops a plan to start

throughout the texts that include bravery and intelligence, which could class him as a hero, this essay

Coach Jim Harbaugh s Takeover Case Study
The Michigan Wolverines first year under new head coach Jim Harbaugh has concluded. With a
crushing defeat over the Florida Gators in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, the Wolverines
capped an impressive 2015 16 campaign with double digit victories (10 3). Michigan quarterback Jake
Rudock threw for 278 yards and three scores in the 41 7 blowout of Florida, showing his development
under Harbaugh. Looking for proof of Harbaugh s ability to develop quarterbacks? Look no further
than the fifth year Wolverines signal caller this past season. Rudock began the season with an
atrocious road performance against Utes in Utah, throwing three picks, including an interception that
was returned for the game winning touchdown. In the 12 games following the 24 17 loss to Utah,
Rudock threw 18 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions. The Wolverines quarterback finished the
season with more than 3,000 yards through the air, completing nearly 65 percent of his passes.
Harbaugh s first year in Ann Arbor, Mich. was nothing short of spectacular, especially considering it
followed the Wolverines disappointing 5 7 campaign in 2014. However, former Michigan head coach
Brady Hoke s recruiting job shouldn t be overlooked. Skill position players such as wide ... Show

In addition to Walker, the Wolverines will add the 11th best linebacker in the class, Devin Bush Jr.
Bush Jr. could see his fair share of playing time in his first season due to Michigan s departing talent at
linebacker. Seniors Joe Bolden and Desmond Morgan served as the veteran leaders for a resurgent
Wolverines defense under former defensive coordinator and current Maryland Terrapins head coach
D.J. Durkin. Heading into the offseason, Michigan has a glaring gap at linebacker. However, junior
linebacker Ben Gedeon will return for his senior season after recording 34 tackles for the Wolverines

I Believe We Have A Quorum For Tonight s Meeting
I believe we have a quorum for tonight s meeting, stated Arthur Rictus, President of Quail Quarry
Strata Council. Six of us are present. Only Council Member Fern Wood is missing. Madame Secretary,
would you read the minutes from our meeting last month?
Certainly, said Secretary Flint. Those present at the meeting included: President Arthur Rictus, Vice
President Sam Pindy, Secretary Edith Flint, Treasurer Rex Skinner, and Council Members Bert Dourly
and Dorothy Bight. Council Member Fern Wood was absent.
The minutes are as follows: Whereas the Schedule of Standard Bylaws of the Strata Property Act of
BC states strata fees are to be paid on or before the first day of the month, it was moved by President
Rictus that a notice be sent to all property owners, including Mr. Jack Hansen, advising them late
payment of strata fees is unacceptable and a fifty dollar fine will be levied for each contravention of
this bylaw. This was seconded by Treasurer Skinner.
Whereas the Schedule of Standard Strata Bylaws states approval must be obtained before making
changes to any common strata property, including doors, windows, skylights, and grounds, it was
moved by President Rictus and seconded by Vice President Pindy that Mr. Andrew Morris be ordered
to remove his new skylight at his own expense, pending approval by the strata council, and that Mrs.
Janice Guest be ordered to remove the wreath hanging on her front door, as well as the rose bushes she

Need for the IEEE 802 standard
While connecting computers through networks, we need to have set of rules or standards for the data
to travel from one computer to other computers. A very good example of this would be the rules of the
road when driving a car. It is understood why we need traffic rules while driving; in same sense for
data packets to travel from one computer terminal to other terminals, they should also follow set of
rules and regulations. The standards of IEEE 802 help the industry provide advantages such as,
interoperability, low product cost, and easy to manage standards. (EEHerald, 2012)

As the voice of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system, the American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) empowers its members and constituents to strengthen the U.S. marketplace
position in the global economy while helping to assure the safety and health of consumers and the
protection of the environment. The Institute oversees the creation and use of thousands of guidelines
that directly impact businesses in nearly every sector: from acoustical devices to construction
equipment, from dairy and livestock production to energy distribution, and many more. ANSI is also
actively engaged in accrediting programs that assess conformance to standards including globally
recognized cross sector programs

Nike Child Labor
There are a large number of individuals who unintentionally support the work that these children do. A
prime example of this would be consumers who purchase professional athletic gear such as the jersey
of the Los Angeles Laker s star Kobe Bryant or the former Most Valuable Player (MVP) Steph Curry
of the Golden State Warriors. These are only two out of the thirty National Basketball Association
(NBA) teams that will be required to use Nike produced gear. In 2015, the NBA signed an 8 year
contract with Nike for them to produce all of the gear for all NBA Teams, such as jerseys and shorts as
well as fan gear such as jerseys, t shirts, socks, jackets and any other apparel that the league can use to
generate large profits. However, the consumers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who work in factories and sweatshops to make rugs or clothing do not receive the proper
education that is necessary for them to advance their level of employment. This can lead them to a
constant level of class where they do increase their profits and live uncomfortable and unfortunate
lifestyles. These children are receiving very little if any education to produce items at very low wages
in environments that are unenjoyable and unethical. The terrible working conditions which can consist
of massive heat, large amount of infestation, or unsafe equipment can not only causes harm or illness,
but can eventually lead to death. There are no children in the world who would want to work in an
environment that can end their life at any given moment due to improper safety regulations. It is
unfortunate that individuals who purchase the goods that these children produce such as cell phones,
laptops, carpet, and clothing are unintentionally providing these children with their low wages of sub
one dollar an hour. However this often occurs because of a lack of knowledge people have regarding
child labor around the world. Also the endorsements that these major companies have by athletic
programs at both the professional and collegiate levels such as the NBA and Washington State
University reach such a large population of viewers that individuals feel it is good to buy these
products. Unintentionally there are millions of supporters who buy sport jerseys and Samsung Galaxy
phones who provide these companies with the money that they pay children, rather than working
together to boycott them in order to damage their pockets. It is a lack of education and knowledge that
several non profit organizations are working on providing to not only the consumer but also to the
children who are being affected worldwide. The

Hellenistic Art Research Paper
Alexander the Great conquered all the known world in 336 B.C. He united all of Greece and built an
empire, but he dies 13 years later. The period from 323 B.C. to 31 B.C. is known as the Hellenistic
period. The word Hellenistic comes from the word hellenize which means to spread Greek influence.
After Alexander s death, his empire divided into four kingdoms: Syria (the kingdom of the Seleucids),
Egypt, Pergamum, and Macedonia. Farther east in Syria, the Hellenistic rulers of the new kingdoms
Encouraged Greek art and literature as one means of holding foreign influences under control.
Libraries were built at Pergamum and the Syrian capital of Antioch. Greek philosophers were
encouraged to visit learning centers and lecture there. This assisted with the spread of Greek influence
farther east. The first Buddhist monumental sculpture called Gandharan was built using Greek style
and techniques. Artists of the Hellenistic period worked toward discovering new subjects and
inventing new techniques. The light house at Alexandria, which was the tallest building at the time

Personal Criticism Of Joshua s Life
In an era of abiding comfort in the amount of likes we receive on social media, Youtube fame, and
ultimate self promotion, we, as a society, have become obsessed with the self and will claw and
scratch to keep the self up front and glorified. Personal constructive criticism has taken a back seat to
the self exalted praises that only encourage and heighten the need of notoriety and fame. This
movement in our society and culture has damaged a majority of teenagers who struggle with identity
crisis, myself included. His name is Joshua, a person of great integrity and confidence who refuses to
give into society and give up during the complexity of life. Out of all the people that I ve encountered,
this peculiar boy has sparked my interest. Devoted, rebellious, and caring, Joshua is an influential
person in the small town of Woodbury that has a direct positive effect on those around him.

the corporate and non corporate sectors that happy employees are more productive therefore leading to
more profit for the business. I also believe that the more money invested into the training and safety of

External Hiring As I mentioned before, it was part of my strategic plan to promote from within when
plausible. I hired externally for entry level positions and most mid level positions. I usually promoted
internally for upper level jobs, but occasionally hired externally to acquire employees with a fresh
perspective. I consulted the staffing report to view projected available positions in each level to
determine promo ability. Overall, I hired more external employees because the majority of the
available jobs were in entry level positions. I chose not to hire any employees in the first quarter
because I was not sure of the simulation and used that quarter to see the difference between projected
resignations and actual without making any decisions. In quarter 6 I chose not to hire for budget
reasons. The following chart reflects the internal and external hire values per quarter. Quarter 0 |

My Running Passion
Running is what shapes me into the person I am. I have been running since the sixth grade, and it has
been my greatest joy since then. I love running because of all the hard work and pain that goes into
training, and ends in a personal record. Running is my biggest passion because it makes me feel happy
inside, and it puts me in a good mood during tough times.
Early morning practices when the sun is rising in the distance, and late night practices when you can
barley see anything are the moments that complete my day. Running up a huge, rocky hill, or 400
meter repeats on a track fills me with the mentality of strength and discipline. Feeling the rush of
adrenaline just before the starting pistol is fired and feeling like your legs ... Show more content on

in running and at school. I have also learned from my coaches that discipline equals tremendous
strength, and strength equals good pay off, (pain equals gain). A lesson I have learned from being part
of a team is that teammates are always there for you to lean on them. They will be there when you

Canterbury Tales Characteristics
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales which portrays a community of people from differing
social backgrounds that come from all of England for a pilgrimage to Canterbury. On this pilgrimage
they wish to receive blessings from St. Thomas á Becket, an English martyr. They all meet at the
Tabard Inn in April, the beginning of spring. Chaucer whom is the narrator goes on to describe the
other twenty nine pilgrims, and the Host of the inn suggests that they should each tell two stories to
help pass the time. Whoever tells the best tale will receive a free meal from the Host. Many of these
tales reflected the medieval society and culture at the time. The Canterbury Tales has many different
genres such as courtly romance, Breton, tragedy, and etc. Also, it was written in Middle English as it
was tales that the common people of London could enjoy. In total there are 24 tales, some
uncompleted however, with the tales that are finished or nearly finished, an interesting one is Franklin
s tale. In Chaucer s general prologue the Franklin is characterized as a ruddy and cheerful man. The
Franklin is a middle class citizen that works as the sheriff and tax auditor. In line 338 9 the Franklin is
described as: For he was Epicurus very son, That held opinion that plain and pure delight... meaning
that his goal in life was to pleasure or to live in the moment. The Franklin s house was never short of
food such as fish or pies. These lines also describe him as: Saint Julian he was in his own country (l.
342) Saint Julian was the patron saint of hospitality meaning that Chaucer is stating that the Franklin
is a generous and kind man. One could also conclude that he was an alcoholic, but besides that is a
overall good citizen. However, he was broken one of the seven deadly sins which is being gluttoned.
In the prologue of his tale, the Franklin gives a disclaimer that he is a simple man and does not know
the rhetoric. Franklin states that he I slept never on the Mount of Parnassus, Nor learned Marcus
Tullius Cicero (l. 721 2). He is referring to the home of Muses, which is the home of music and poetry,
and Cicero the scholar. The Franklin is going to tell this story as best as he can through his simple
speech. The tale

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Rowe Townsend once argued that the only practical definition of a children s book is one that appears on the children s list by a publisher. Contemporary publishers are not making that distinction any easier; for example, Maurice Sendak s Outside Over There (1981) was published as a picture book for both children and adults, and J. K. Rowling s Harry Potter series is available in adult and children s versions with the only difference being the book s cover art. While folk and Fairy Tales were not originally intended for children, they have become a staple of children s literature since the early nineteenth century. On the other hand, many books written for and widely read by children during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are considered historical children s literature today and are read almost exclusively by adult scholars of children s literature. Children s literature has been written, illustrated, published, marketed, and purchased consistently by adults to be given to children for their edification and entertainment. Generally speaking, it is the intended audience rather than the producers of the texts who define the field. Children s texts written by child or adolescent authors, such as Daisy Ashford s The Young Visiters(1919) or Anne Frank s Het Achterhuis (1947; The Diary of a Young Girl, 1952), are exceptions to the rule. Many famous children s authors, such as Louisa May ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elephants mean Exosphere, In means Ionosphere, Mexico means Mesosphere Okay, that s rash. But genuinely clever too. I need to remember that for future reference. Speaking of James, where is that stud anyways? I ask. Haven t seen him since Monday. James has been with his fraternity lately for some kind of group study, She enunciates the tidings with finger quotes. I m feeling skeptical about it too; he scarcely texts me anymore and that makes me glum. Well, whatever he s doing right now, I m reasonably sure that James is going to be fine. I console. At that instant, both Abby and Carlos plunk down with us, wearing their prototypical I m so done with life facets. Abby takes a quick sip of her juice box before endowing me a weighty look. A social group is two or more people who identify with and interact with one another (Macionis 108). We also learned about several different experiments and the understanding of each. Social groups are very important. In the text book we learn about two different experiments. The Asch experiment includes a group of students asking to compare two cards and to choose something on the card that matches the second card. Many people in the experiment matched it correctly. Also there were people that would constantly match the wrong ones on purpose. The purpose of the experiment was to recognize if any of the participants of the experiment felt awkward during it. It is a continuous effort to improve products, services, or processes, which require incremental improvement over time in order to increase the quality and efficiency of the process. Lean management looks for different ways to eliminate factors that waste time, effort or money. This is achieved by analyzing a business process and then revising it or cropping out any steps that do not create value for consumers. Lean Management philosophy is based on the idea that organizations should set their strategies according to what the consumers really value, systematically eliminating waste both within the firm and along the process of supply chain. Many companies when implementing the Lean Management ideology complains that traditional Management Accounting Systems are unable to support their projects. At best, they are perceived as bureaucratic tasks, and at worst, they are considered a key constraint to both the acceptance and success of lean projects implemented in their organizations. • 10. The Characters Personalities in Grendel and Beowulf ... The book Grendel, written by John Gardner, and the poem Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, both have very distinct opinions on what role each character plays. The translator of Beowulf and the writer of Grendel follow the idea that everyone has a story. A story is the writer s perspective on a character s personality, the way people in the story see and treat the character, and the way it ties the ideas together. There are many examples in these two writings of this concept, but the main instances connect with the lives of Grendel, Beowulf, and Unferth. Our first character, Grendel, is an exceptionally diverse character. It is implied that in both book and poem, Grendel is a blood thirsty monster. All Grendel does is go through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way of thinking leads Grendel to be the assassin we know him as today. A great character to include in this topic is Unferth. Unferth is a very out of the ordinary individual. In Beowulf, the writer s perspective on Unferth is a pathetic warrior who couldn t win even the simplest of fights. When first introduced in the poem Beowulf, it s hard to feel sympathy for Unferth because he is in verbal conflict with Beowulf, insulting Beowulf. When switching to the outside view in the book Grendel, it becomes apparent that Unferth isn t just doing this to pick a fight. Grendel has been his arch enemy ever since the twelve year war started. Unferth was embarrassed and infuriated in his first meeting with Grendel when Grendel said I m going to carry you back to Hrothgar, safe and sound (p.90). The other people in the book think he s supposed to be the savior of the kingdom, yet he can t even come close to killing Grendel and when he does attempt to kill Grendel, Grendel just laughs and teases him. This idea of embarrassment drives Unferth mad with rage. When Beowulf comes along, he claims that he has done all these heroic and outstanding things. He makes the claim that Grendel is hardly a work out which infuriates Unferth. He has worked so hard to get revenge on Grendel and a warrior came from a distant land and claims to kill him like it is nothing. It is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Epic of Gilgamesh What Meets The Eye In today s day and age, literature and media have ample effect on how our society influences individuals. Women are perceived as sexual objects, but have the ability to persuade and influence the male character in literature. The Epic of Gilgamesh portrays the significance ancient Mesopotamian Literature has made on the social image that women possess pertaining to sexuality and appearances to the public eye in modern culture. In Gilgamesh, the harlot Shamhat held a reputation proving that women are only represented in one way. To support this argument, many aspects such as defining the Male Gaze, heroism, and how women influence the main character, all prove how poorly women are portrayed in literature and furthermore in modern media and culture. The Epic of Gilgamesh focuses mainly on the two male protagonists Enkidu and Gilgamesh. Shamhat was later introduced into the story as a temple prostitute that had the reputation of taming wild beasts (Martin 103). She domesticates Enkidu into the ways of humankind using seduction, but as the story continues, it shows how truly important Shamhat s position is in the epic. Shamhat, in her role, is a generous force that brings knowledge and progress to a strong hero preparing him for the many tribulations ahead. One of the aspects we fail to recognize in Mesopotamian literature, let alone all literature of the world, is the heroic roles of women. In Women in the African Epic, Joseph L. Mbele states, ... Once I learned more about the Zhou dynasty music, I realized how old the common wind instrument, the flute, really is and how hard it must have been to master a piece of bamboo compared to the modern metal one now, it made me appreciate how far back history goes for that instrument and how hard those musicians had it back then compared to now. Since the mention of women in an Islamic context brings the notion that women under the Islamic cover live an oppressive, unfair, and patriarchal lifestyle. Defending this situation, Amina Wadud in her book Qur an and Woman, Muslim progressives have since quite a while ago contended that it is not the religion but rather a patriarchal elucidation and usage of the Qur an that has kept women mistreated. The Personification Of Death In The Seventh Seal And Everyman Everyman is a morality play from the 15th century with no known author, and The Seventh Seal is a 1950 s fantasy film about a knight returning from the Crusades. Although the timelines for these two pieces don t match up, they share a lot of similarities: the most prominent of which being the personification of death into a character. Both pieces feature death as an ever present entity and solidify the inevitability of death. However, through the characterizations of death within these two pieces, the two offer differing views on the role of religion in human mortality, and the creators offer interesting views of human relationships with death himself. One of the initial confrontations with death in both pieces features the concept of delaying death. In Everyman, the titular character is confronted by death as God s messenger and he initially attempts to bribe death. However, death states Everyman, it may not be by no way. / I set not by gold, silver, nor riches, / Nor by pope, emperor, king, duke, nor princes (124 6). By stating this, the author further highlights the inevitability of death. Following this statement, Everyman is given the opportunity to find those who would walk with him to face death, thus delaying his demise.
