Genetic Mutation
In biology, term mutation has been described as changes to the base pair sequence of the genetic
material of an organism. Mutations can be caused by: copying errors in the genetic material during
cell division, by exposure to ultraviolet or ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, or viruses, or can
occur deliberately under cellular control during processes such as hypermutation. In multicellular
organisms, mutations can be subdivided into germ line mutations, which can be passed on to
descendants, and somatic mutations, which cannot be transmitted to descendants in animals. Plants
sometimes can transmit somatic mutations to their descendants asexually or sexually (in case
when flower buds develop in somatically mutated part of plant). A... Show more content on

Instead there is an abnormal type of hemoglobin S that is inherited as an autosomal inherited
trait. This disease produces chronic anemia, which may become life threatening when hemolytic
crises (the breakdown of redblood cells) or aplastic crises (bone marrow fails to produce blood
cells) occur. The incidence of this disorder is 1/400 African Americans and 8/100,000 people.
The manifestations of this disease are a result of the fragility and inflexibility of the sickle red
bloodcells. When exposed to a lack of water, infection, and low oxygen supply, these delicate red
blood cells take the shape of a crescent. This then causes blood cell devastation and thickening of
the blood. Sickle cell anemia has the potential to be life threatening and can affect other body
systems and parts of the body. Those included are the nervous system, bones, the kidneys and the
liver. Maternal PKU is a genetic disorder that stems from point mutation. 1/15,000 people fall
victim to this disorder. Phenylketonuria (PKU) has been shown as a cause of retardation in infant
fetuses. Children in the fetus begin with a normal amount of phenylalanine hydroxylase but are
affected by the mother s elevated phenylalanine level due to the imbalance of prenatal amino acid.
Mental deficiency is clearly evident in disorder and usually consists of I.Q.s of 50.

Aboriginal Kinship System
The kinship system is a defining feature of Aboriginal social organisation and family relationships1.
This kinship system establishes how all members of a community are related and what their
position is2.It is a complex system that determines how people relate to each other, and what their
roles, responsibilities and obligations in relation to one another are. It also plays an important role
in ceremonies and relationships to the land. As such, the kinshipsystem dictates who can marry
who, ceremonial relationships, funeral roles and how kinfolk should behave towards one another1.
Aboriginal people often do not call their family members by name, but rather use relationship terms
such as brother, mother, aunt or cousin2. According to the

Throughout many countries around the world, homosexuality has always been subjected as a
controversial matter. The societal attitudes towards the behavior of homosexuality vary
substantially across Asia. Surprisingly, there are two conflicting attitudes toward homosexuality.
Some Asian countries strongly condemn against homosexuality, whereas some Asian countries
visibly accept homosexuality. Judith Butler explained that gender is represented as a stylized
repetition of acts or imitation. She described the categories of sexuality and gender as a form of
performativity (Butler 1996, 368). This essay will focus on China and South Korea and explore
the experience of gender identity via to the socio cultural contexts. This essay will also look... Show

It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social upheavals between the
1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film raises the attitude of
homosexuality in the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for the Chinese and
Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). Despite that, China holds a strong homosexual stigma within the
twentieth century. According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to stimulate the inherent of the
Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were tolerated during the era (Lau 1995,
22). Zheng further suggested that the film was also a chance to understand the homophobic anxiety
of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history (Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to
illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and homosexuality cannot coexist. The main
protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily reinforced by the power structure within the
environment through harsh symbolic rapes. Lau suggested that the symbolic rapes, such as the loss
of finger and getting a pipe forced into the mouth are indications of homosexuality (Lau 1995, 23).
According to Zheng, the scene when Dieyi gets raped by the eunuch has exhibited Dieyi s
disruption towards the societal rejection of homosexuality (Zhang 1999, 104). Zheng also stated

Assignment 2: Course Project Task 2
SWOT As we learned swot stands for strengths, weaknesses, organization, and tasks. This is used
in all firms to make necessary changes. This is especially useful in healthcare organizations. The

The workflow process begins with the manager. The manager communicates to the staff. When
there are problems with the workflow process with the staff then the problem is pointed out to the
manager. The manager meets with the staff person who has a problem to rectify the situation.
Afterwards, the manager meets with all staff about the problem and she discusses the problem. A
memo is typed and copied and posted for all personnel to read, sign that they read it, and follow the
instructions as stated in the memo. Any further questions they are referred to the manager.

Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay
Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses
of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool
under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest
Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources
serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population
that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons;
this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the
resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing
solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway.
Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences
that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in
decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific
research, collaborative management, and marketing solution.
The focus of this paper is on Public Lands Management, the attention will be given to the challenges
and opportunities that lie within. Therefore, this section will concentrate on the collaborative
management tool. It will describe the pro s and con s in environmental policy making Davis

The Author s Experiences of Opression in Loraine...
Loraine Hansberry s A Raisin in The Sun and Milcha Sanchez Scott s The Cuban Swimmer both
capture the authors past experiences of oppression, and convey their struggles with identity. Both
authors are from minority cultures, and both describe the same harsh pressures from the dominant
culture. Both author s share situations of being outcasts, coming from different racial backgrounds
and trying to triumph over these obstacles.
A Raisin in the Sun and The Cuban Swimmer both share common themes, themes of discrimination,
dreams, opportunity, and gender roles. Between both plays one theme stood out the most, which
was simply the importance of family. The Younger family in A Raisin in the Sun is struggling
socially and economically, but comes together in the end to purchase a home. Walter and Benetha
learn the value of family toward the end of the play. Benetha denies Walter as a brother after he
looses the large amount money that was going to contribute to her schooling, in a get rich quick

Darwin created to get famous. From the evolution of humans to how humans
evolved is a long process, millions of years to be more precise. Our evolving

humans. For instance, how we learned to live in harsh or un habitable
environments and made them livable, to making tools with stone and sticks
from there surroundings. During the Paleolithic Era Humans of that time
gained food mainly by foraging which in other words is by collecting plant

humans who developed and evolved during this time 2 million years ago
were called homo erectus, or another name for upright human. They evolved
in east Africa, and they also made tools that specialized in various tasks,
those tools included handheld axes cleavers, even scrapers. The homo
erectus lived in larger groups so they could cooperate in hunting and
gathering even food preparation. It was also found later by archeologist that
the shape of the homo erectus Larynx suggest that people of this specific
species were able to make wider range of sounds than were earlier
hominids, so they relied more on vocal sounds than gestures to
communicate ideas to one another.
The Earlier humans most successful venture however had to how they

Virgil (readings listed in your syllabus) taking careful note the actions of Turnus and discuss the
following: The death of Turnus is sudden and shocking. What does the manner of his death indicate
about Turnus and what does it show about Aeneas? Is Turnus a hero or a victim? The Aeneidby
Virgilis a classic poem that describes the way the Trojans survived after the Greeks invaded and
destroyed their hometown, Troy. The Poem explains the Trojans movements and how they
found the city of Rome that was ruled by King Latinus at the time. The King at the time was
happy to open his arms to the Trojans, as he believed in a prophecy that stated that it was meant
to be that his daughter had to get married to a foreigner. It only made sense for the King to
welcome the Trojans, as by doing so he would increase the chances of the prophecy being
fulfilled. While this was the King s hopes plan s, his wife Amata wanted Lavania to marry the King
of Rutilians, Turnus who ruled an ethnic group in Italy. The conflict rose when King Latinus
decided to hand his daughter s hand to Aeneas, and Turnus hot tempered as always did not sit quiet

Colonization Of North America
Prior to English colonization of North America, slavery in Europe was a common institution that
created a social class in the societies of various nations. When the colonization of the New World in
North America began, along with English settlers came the institution of slavery. In the dawn of
English colonization, the practice of indentured servitude was utilized to provide labor necessary to
produce crops in exchange for transportation to the New World, and a opportunity for new
beginnings. As trade in the Atlantic World progressed, slavery
replaced indentured servitude in
order for African Chiefdoms to gain profit, and colonial farmers to gain free labor. As the method
for obtaining labor for producing cash crops transitioned from indentured servitude to slavery,
specifically African chattel slavery, slavery itself developed into a staple institution for colonial
economies, and set up for tensions between the small but influential population of slaveowners and
African slaves that caused slavery to become difficult to overcome in future years.
In the eyes of English political leaders, the colonization of the New World benefited the English
economy in ways of taxation, the mercantilism system, and new opportunities for goods to flourish
in English markets. The first established English colony of Jamestown displayed the difficulties of
colonization in foreign land, but the work of John Rolfe to develop and perfect the farming of
tobacco saved the colony. This new

2 Timothy 2 Metaphors
In 2 Timothy Paul was writing to his beloved colleague Timothy, pastor of the church in Ephesus,
who Paul had called his dear son (2 Timothy 1:2; 2:1 NLT). The theme of 2 Timothy is Paul trying
to impress his final instructions and encouragement onto Timothy. Within the letter of 2 Timothy,
Paul encouraged Timothy through five prominent subjects ; foundations of Christian service,
chapter of metaphors, the last days, Godinspired Scriptures and Paul s farewell (Jensen 1981, 396
398).
Paul writes about the burdens of his heart, he does this to inspire and challenge his young successor
Timothy to keep witnessing for Christ. Paul knew that the foundations of the gospel were
impenetrable, and if he encouraged Timothy, he would not falter. After Paul encouraged Timothy
about the foundations of Christian service, he goes on to explain these in the metaphor chapter.
Paul explains to Timothy about the ministry itself, by mastering the use of metaphors to describe
persons, things, and actions. These metaphors Paul uses help explain to Timothy what Paul
considered to be the last days, where he forewarns Timothy about the difficult times that are to
come upon the world (Jensen 1981, 396).

Testable Questions For Research
A good scientific experiment has to answer a testable and well defined question. It also has to be
systematic and controlled. A Scientific experiment that lacks one these features will most likely
be flawed. All experiments have to have a testable question. For a question to be testable, you
have to be able to do an experiment to answer it. The question shouldn t be too easy that you can
t even test it. Will the growth of the plant be affected by the color of the light? is an example of a
testable question because you can design an experiment to answer this question. You can use 5
different colors with 5 similar plants and see and observe how their growth is affected for at
least a week or more. A non example of a testable question would be Which is a better flavor of
ice cream, vanilla or chocolate? This is not a testable question because it is an opinionated
question, and you do not need an experiment to answer it. In addition, an experiment should also
have a well defined question which means that it is clear and not vague. It also means that it is not
too broad that it will take such a long time to answer, but it should not be too narrow that there s no
need for experimentation or research.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an experiment, there are variables that need to be controlled and observed. They are the
independent and dependent variables and the control variables. The independent variable is the
variable that you are testing. The dependent variable is what you observe for change. The control
are the ones that stay the same. In the experiment Will the growth of the plant be affected by the
color of the light , the plant that has the white light will be the control variable, while the plants
that have different light colors will be the independent variable which is what is being tested. The
dependent variable will be the growth of the plant since that is what you are measuring or

Alexis de Tocqueville s Democracy in America Essay example
Alexis de Tocqueville s visit to the United States in the early part of the nineteenth century
prompted his work Democracy in America, in which he expressed the ability to make democracy
work. Throughout his travels Tocqueville noted that private interest and personal gain motivated
the actions of most Americans, which in turn cultivated a strong sense of individualism.
Tocqueville believed that this individualism would soon sap the virtue of public life (395) and
create a despotism of selfishness. This growth of despotism would be created by citizens becoming
too individualistic, and therefore not bothering to fulfill their civic duties or exercise their freedom.
Tocqueville feared that the political order of America would soon become... Show more content on

br br Another means by which Tocqueville believes it is possible to contest individualism is to
form associations and write newspapers. He believes that like local governments, associations
help people to realize their dependence on their fellow citizens and take interest in public affairs.
It is crucial to have institutions and civic duties which force people to look beyond their own
interests and think about the problems of the community. As soon as several of the inhabitants of
the United States have taken up an opinion or a feeling which they wish to promote to the world,
they look out for mutual assistance; and as soon as they have found one another out, they
combine. From that moment they are no longer isolated men, but a power seen from afar, whose
actions serve for an example and whose language is listened to (407). Seeing as citizens in
democratic societies are independent and weak, they need to form associations in order to have
some influence. By bringing people together, new thoughts and ideas are circulated with a stronger
force behind them. br br Newspapers combat individualism by allowing numerous readers to be
exposed to the same thoughts and ideas. There is a shared relationship between newspapers and
associations: newspapers aid in the formation of associations, and associations use newspapers as a
means of communicating their thoughts and ideas. When there is a notion shared by many

Two poems that deal with the harsh reality of death, done tastefully and beautifully in very
different ways. They have similar tones with different executions, Both convey the theme of loss
though one feels more like a story and the other more like a speech, and both were written in the
aftermath of a beloved president s assassination. The tones of both of these poems have a similar
melancholic and mournful tone, seeing as they deal with the theme of death. This tone matches how
the writers were feeling after the passing of the beloved presidents in their time periods. But with

The American Of The British Empire
In marked contrast to the monarchy and the dispute about the rights of succession and control over
the Spanish Empire, the American colonies sought independence from the British monarchy and
government. The Americans wanted a completely new government, without a King or any form of
monarchy. While the Spanish crisis was one of leadership, connection to other empires, a desire to
avoid partition. The American crisis in government came about through the actions of the King, and
the colonists questioning the authority of the British Parliament to rule over them.
The American colonies served an important role in the British Empire during the first half of the
1700 s. King George III ascended to the throne in 1760, and took control of the empire and its vast
territories. The British Constitution provided for the monarchial rule, and two representative bodies
the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. None of the British colonies had representation in
these houses, and this proved to be the issue with the American colonies. The colonies
administration technically fell under the Privy Council and Secretary of State. Parliament made
policy regarding the colonies, and defined the economic relationship between England and the
colonies. Governors acted locally in the King s name and enforced the laws. The colonies also had
their own political institutions in the form of local assemblies, legislatures, and county, city and

Antigone Tragic Hero
Heroes emit an undefinable energy that can attract anyone. Their sense of attraction does not stem
from their physical physique, but instead an internal light. Even the most virtuous character is
destined for downfall, due to one mistake or tragic flaw. In Sophocles Antigone, many are quick to
crown Antigonewith the title of tragic hero, this is because in a world where no one expelled
courage she did. Antigone s act of going against Kreon by burying Polyneices was a sign of
foolish loyalty to the gods, but not enough to make her a tragic hero. Her sister, Ismene, is the
true tragic hero. Although Ismene can be considered a foil character, Ismene s tragic flaws,
loneliness and weakness, make her a tragic hero. Her dire need of affection and companionship
are catalyst in her willingness to do anything and lack of rational thinking. I did it. If she is with
me now, I share the blame with her and will bear it also (lines 657 658). Ismene s confession to
Kreon was a lie. What is life when I ve lost you? What is there to lovein life? (lines 673 674) This
line elaborates on why she lied and shows evidence that her deception was merely motivated by
her fear of being alone. Ismene s loneliness leads to her sacrificing her life. She has no one except

Three Ways To Facilitate A Child s Development In Child...
1)In class, we have discussed many ways in which children develop language skills. Give me
THREE ways in which an adult can facilitate a child s language acquisition (acquire new and
increase language vocabulary).
There are many ways which an adult can facilitate a child s language acquisition (acquire new and
increase language vocabulary). Here is some of them:
1. Engaging in conversations with children.
Communication is the first and most accessible way to facilitate child s language acquisition and
increasing language vocabulary.
2. Reading books multiple times.
During the repeated reading, repetition and gradual memorization and mastering of the most
important components of the language functions occur.
3. Giving descriptions of objects.
Explanations of words, activities or events. Open questions. All these ways are help to acquire new
words and increase language vocabulary for the children in everyday life.

me WHY you believe it is developmentally appropriate. I chose toddlers age (16 36 months). As
one of the best literacy activity adults can use be rhymes and songs, and encourage the child about

If both benefit the most in cooperating, as is the case in the prisoner s dilemma, they will both
cooperate, and peace will be maintained . This basic liberal assumption of the importance of
individual gains is the main support for European integration. If all states cooperate in all arenas,
leading to a collectively sovereign Europe , the individual gains of each state will be adequate
enough to avoid conflict among themselves making it easier to approach the rest of the
international system together peacefully.
In the event of an integrated Europe, constructivists recognize that to completely avoid conflict,
each state will have to succumb to a European identity and all individual identities will have to
become merely cultural gems within the European system. This, they argue, can be achieved with
the success of several steps including economic, judicial, and security integration . The first step has
already been attempted with the establishment of the Euro, the common European currency, which
has been outperformed by its monetary competitors. A great amount of trust will have to be
secured between states before a common court or army can be established, and most likely with as
little success as the common currency. So, even by these simplified guidelines the outlook for the
creation of a new European

Health Economics And Healthcare
The Health Economics and Financing textbook provides me a lot of knowledge of how health
and healthcare play important roles in economy. Before reading the textbook, I wasn t really
aware that health could be a key factor that drive economic growth. However, after reading this
textbook, I have learned that healthcare is completely different than any other goods since it is a
necessity, and people tend to pay for healthcare services no matter how much the cost as long as
they can afford. Everything in the textbook is important, but for me, the biggest take away point
from the textbook is the importance of healthcare.
As an necessity, healthcare services has been one of the most important components in our lives.

Before reading this chapter, I did know that geographic maldistribution of physicians potentially
led to geographic disparities in health. But after I read the text, I have obtained an in depth
understanding of how to adjust physician supply by applying some policies, such as balancing
income. On the other hand, I have learned that the increase enrollment of medical school has
changed physician supply over the past decades. While more and more people go to medical
school, there are more and more medical specialties in the future. In general, I feel like there will
be adequate physician supply, but it may not be distributed evenly to each place. Therefore, I
believe that some appropriate interventions and policies should be considered for balancing the
supply. One of the reasons why I think physician supply is an important concept is that it is
strongly associated with one s

Comparing Sports Psychology
The word athletics comes from the Greek word athlos, and it means contest or task. The two
articles, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary
School Students in Track and Field by Blatsis Petros, et. al., and Sport Psychology: the Ultimate
Spring Board of Excellence by Jitendra Mohan, are both written in different sub disciplines of
athletics, and therefore, the purposes of the articles differ. The articles are based on the similar
topics, but the authors wrote the articles for different disciplines; therefore, the articles differ in
language, structure, and the reference style they use.
II. Structure The articles employ different structures; one is written in chronological order and the
other is organized by problem and solution. Sport Psychology: the Ultimate Spring Board of
Excellence is formatted so that the reader can understand the origins of sport psychology. The

a mental, physical, and/or emotional perspective. The article, The Effect of IAAF Kids Athletics on
the Physical Fitness and Motivation of Elementary School Students in Track and Field had a
physical and emotional perspective toward athletics. On the other hand, the article, Sport

athletics. Thus, the different perspectives and disciplines will cause the authors to write the articles

Comparing Cummings The Enormous Room And Hemingway s
In The Autobiography of Alice B Toklas, Gertrude Stein mentions many artists and writers that
she had a relationship with. From artists like Picasso and CГ©zanne to writers like Hemingway
and E.E Cummings, Stein had a large yet interesting group of friends and even more interesting
things to say about them. She speaks the fondest of the people like Picasso who she likes best and
does not say much about other artists like CГ©zanne who she is not very fond of. E.E Cummings

Cummings and Stein have more similarities than one thinks, for example, their writing styles are
both difficult to understand when first reading but they are both effective in conveying their
message whether their ways are unconventional or not. It is evident that Cummings background in
poetry influenced the prose style of his writing. For example chapter, two begins with I put the
bed roll down. I stood up. I was myself. (page 62). Not only does this resemble poetry because of
the imagery portrayed by just these few words but it also effectively conveys his message. They are
also similar in their writing styles because they both use portraits to portray the people that surround
them. While Cummings focuses on describing their physical appearance to paint a picture of both
the characters mental and physical state, stein uses the painters and writers work as well as their
physical appearance to paint this picture. Reading Cummings novel made it easier to understand
Steins writing style because they are both similar in the sense that they are both breaking the
mold by using unconventional punctuation and syntax. It also makes the reader appreciate it for
its uniqueness and in a way it is like art because she and Cummings both reject the traditional
autobiography format and make their writing their own. Stein uses Alice B. Toklas as her voice
and Cummings uses his narrator who he calls C. I also understand better why Stein chose a
different voice to write this piece that can be considered her autobiography just as much as it can
be considered Toklas . It is because it give a different kind of authority to this writing and makes it
seem less

Spinoza On Substance Monism
The stance that Spinoza has on substance is that there is only one substance, out of which all else
is somehow constituated. Substance for the Stoics, is also seen as a monist philosophy. Because
Stoics think of the world as a unitary system that contains all beings they should be considered
substance monism. This is often cited as the clearest example of how Spinoza was most influenced
by Stoic philosophy. However, Spinoza states that there is only one substance, but further from that,
he unambiguously signals that understanding it is a prerequisite to understanding the
epistemological, psychological, and moral issues where as for the Stoics this is not completely
obvious; nor it is obvious that they place substance at the basis of all philosophical investigation.
From the Stoic view, they do make philosophical investigation being with nature: we must first
learn about it before we can advance to logic and ethics. So upon initial thought, one might think
although they may not call it substance, the Stoics do have nature and its conceptual and
argumentative status seems similar to that of Spinozistic substance. Therefore, because the Stoics
have a concept that is equivalent in key respects to Spinoza s substance, the differences that I stated
above may appear not so great after all.
What lies at the heart of Stoic monism is the intuition that the world constitutes a genuine and well
integrated whole, but by contrast, Spinozistic monism is held to be based on either

literature in America Essay
When I think of America, I think of freedom. We live in a country where we can do what we
choose. We can express our opinions and live our own lives. Individuals can form their own
individual beliefs and they can do what they want and pursue what they wish. They can play
basketball, go to school, get a job, have a family, buy a house, or go to church. We are free. We
have opportunity to be whatever we want to make ourselves. When you ask, what is an American?
I find it no different to ask, what is freedom? America and freedom are intertwined and this
relationship is evident in American literature.
The notion of freedom and everything relating to freedom unites all of the American literature we
have read. In Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Huck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Self Reliance, Emerson explains that our freedom to choose and our ability to think what we
want to think define what America is. I believe it is characteristic of Americans to strive for what
they think is right. In Poe s the House of Usher, Usher decided to bury his sister alive. I think
this story can relate to us today. Many people would say that America is known for persevering
through rough times. I d say the last few years have been a rough time for America, from 9/11 to
now the war in Iraq. Sometimes situations may seem unbeatable, like being trapped in a coffin,
but if you fight hard enough, like we are against the terrorists and in Iraq, you can overcome
anything. American s can overcome anything. Usher s sister was buried alive and finally broke
from the coffin after a week of struggle. Also, many of the authors we have studied describe nature
in riveting detail. To them and to me, our beautiful nature represents something more then just
what you see with your eye it represents America s freedom. In Emerson s Nature, Thorpe s The
Big Bear of Arkansas, Twain s Huckleberry Finn, Bryant s Thanatopsis, and Edwards Shadows of
Divine Things, we see an apparent love and lust of nature by the authors. The great aspects of nature
represent the great aspects of America freedom. The mountains and trees scatter in nature in pure
harmony just like the American people live freely in America. The authors had a fascination

Chaucer s The General Prologue Essay
Chaucer s The General Prologue Chaucer the pilgrim starts out The General Prologue with
detailed descriptions of each pilgrim as he views them. When Chaucer the pilgrim arrives at the
Pardoner, he becomes very focused on his physical appearance and what is seems to be missing.
There is something odd about this Pardoner and Chaucer the pilgrim can t seem to grasp just
what that is. He describes that the Pardoner is all on fire to do is job, just arriving from Rome
(Bretful of pardon, come from Rome al hoot). However, his eagerness to Pardon those for God

Putting together his femininely smooth, boyish appearance with the neutered animal pushes
the emphasis on the Pardoner s ambiguous sexuality. This description of the Pardoner through
Chaucer the pilgrim s eyes reaffirms the other pilgrims idea of him. His character is that of a
gentle yet pompous boy, who spends much time on his own appearance, especially his hair. The
Pardoner seems to attempt to market himself as a young bachelor in front of his fellow travelers
but the attempt fails miserably. When he interrupts the Wife of Bath s prologue to say, I m
getting married soon, tell me what to do to find a good wife, he further alienates himself from
the group instead of redeeming himself as a funny person. His interruption comes off more as a
need for others to see him as desirable by a female. Another odd quality of his character is his
confession of his own sinfulness. The Pardoner commits this grievous rhetorical fault in trying to
gain their pride. The other characters don t need to announce, These are my sins, because we find
out through their story what that character is like. However, the Pardoner has to announce his sins
in hope of finding a connection with the other pilgrims, for his story does not explain his character
at all. In fact, it revolts his fellow travelers because the

Castrati In The 18th Century
Castrati were very popular during the 18th century. Boys from the age of 8 to 12 years old or
even before they hit puberty would be castrated with the intention of saving their high pitched
voices and they were now called castrati. The effects of this operation would vary depending on
when it occurred. According to Tony Perrottet , if the castration occurred on before the age of 10,
they often grew up with feminine features, smooth, hairless bodies, incipient breasts, infantile
penis and a complete lack of sex drive. Perrottet continues that on the opposite side, males operated

Both ladies and gentlemen of society desired them. This is interesting due to the fact that words
for gender identities had not yet been created at this time . An example of the obsession but
hypocrisy with castrati is seen when castrato Giuston Tenducci and Dorothy Maunsell, an Irish
heiress, eloped to the outrage of her father who later found Tenducci and threw him in jail . The
father approved of the castrato until he married his daughter and could not reproduce. In a way
castrati could be considered as a taboo love interest and therefore this is what made them more
attractive. During the 18th century, castrati were also thought to have angel voices which was
attractive to the audience. The infatuation with castrati and their voices overpowered the thought
that castration for boys was unethical and so the operation continued. This contrasts to the belief
that this operation in the present day violates a basic human right and is too unethical even with the
results to continue. Angus Heriot, modern day critic and author, expresses this from the description
of the last castrati, Alessandro Moreschi, He is surprising, but never exquisite. These thoughts from
modern day denote that the talent is not thought to surpass the unethicalness of the operation and
therefore the operation continues to be

The Importance Of Religion In Islam
Until what point can faith and beliefs dictate what is right or wrong? Practicing a religion can
provide emotional well being, happiness and guiding; however, in some cases religion can have a
negative effect in a society because it can be used to justify violence or social inequalities. One of
the most controversial religion is the Islambecause it has many interpretations that can lead to
power abuse and manipulation for personal interests. Moreover, Saudi Arabiais considered the
birthplace of Islam, where Muslims practice what is known as Wahhabi Islam, which is also highly
controversial and criticized by western cultures because of its extreme regime and promotion of
violence. The kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the most conservative Muslim country in the world, and it

A Brief Note On Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch And Othmar...
Throughout the course of history there have been many advances in the world of infrastructure,
mostly occurring in the 1800 s and the 1900 s. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and
organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and
facilities necessary for an economy to function. This definition shows how important infrastructure
is to people s lives today. It affects how people live, travel, and communicate with one another.
Three men who made huge contributions in the world of infrastructure were Robert Moses, Richard
Ravitch and Othmar Hermann Ammann. All three of these men were involved in designing
numerous landmarks, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other forms of infrastructure that today we
take for granted. Although all of these men were involved in infrastructure in the New York
metropolitan area, their contributions, personalities, and the public s opinion of them were all
different. Robert Moses was born in New Haven Connecticut. He is considered the master builder
of New York City, Long Island, Rockland county, and Westchester county of the mid 1900 s.
After graduating from Yale and earning a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia, Robert
Moses became attracted to New York City reform politics. Moses caught the notice of Belle

Reasons For File A Police Report Essay
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
This chapter provides background of the study and presents the problem statement. It clarifies the
research objectives, research questions, and describes the significance of the study. Organization of
the remaining chapters is provided towards the end of this chapter.
We focus on the modelling of policereporting processes in Malaysia. The fact that everybody
knows, under the law, people have the right to lodge a police report. In the past, the police would
actually dissuade people from filing a police report some times. One could not get their schedule
as to when those times struck and so that made it difficult and frustrating. They will tell people it
is not required or there is no point because they will not investigate or take any further action, or
give people excuses to send people from station to station until people get so frustrated, or just flat
out refuse to take down the complaint.
There are many reasons to file a police report. Some of the most common reasons are to ease of
finding and arresting a suspect in a crime, adding serial numbers to statewide databases to recover
stolen property and tracking criminal activity in various areas to prevent future crimes. A police
report should be filed in the city or jurisdiction where the crime occurred. They need to get the most
accurate information possible to conduct a thorough investigation.
Based on the literature review and an interview with police officer, we come

proper welfare state. During the speech in the radio, Churchill tried to prove the socialists were

8. There were a few limitations found in this project. First of all is the small number of
participants. Second is the gender limitation as in this project was just one female and four males,
and it would have been better to have more females to compare the results between them, because
females scores are always different then males scores. Time was another obstacle, because if there
would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. In this research
project all the variables have been controlled, but there were a few unexpected variables: one of
the participants did his best in the first attempt, but after the warm up he performed the test just for
the sake of doing it, putting no effort in it at all, wanting to finish faster. Another extraneous
variable was the slippery floor which made some of the participants to add a few seconds extra to

Summary Of The White Witch And Jadis
For instance, the wrongfully professed queen of Narnia, represents evil in the theme of Christianity
and is possibly even a symbolic figure of satan himself. The White Witch Jadis is a power hungry,
sadistic person who claimed the throne of Narnia by brute force. When she first appears in the
novel, it s through the distressed conversation between Lucy and Tumnus. This immediately gives
the White Witch a vile and villainous image. However, it s not until the Witch runs into Edmund,
when the reader can truly start to see the connections between the witch and her biblical
counterparts. In Genesis, Adam and Eve are tempted into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree by
the serpent. Whereas, in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Edmund is... Show more content on

The witch s right to kill sinners is therefore an actual representation of satan s capacity to impose
spiritual death upon those who have fallen into transgression. Lewis uses the White Witch to
symbolize all that is evil in the theme of christianity and possibly even the prince of darkness
himself. Then there s Aslan, the son of the Emperor and the true king of Narnia. Aslan
symbolizes all that is good and stands for a literal representation of Jesus Christ. When Jadis
comes to speak with Aslan, she comes demanding Edmund, the son of Adam. She cites the
Emperors deep magic, which states that traitors must forfeit their lives to her. However, Aslan
feels responsible for the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Thus, he trades places with
Edmund and sacrifices his own life to atone for Edmunds sins. When Aslan died, he was really a
mass of cords , bound to a stone table. At this point, it becomes clear that Lewis is drawing
parallels between Aslan s sacrifice and Christ s Crucifixion. This is evident because like Aslan,
Christ sacrifices his own life, and was bound to a cross when he died for the sins of others. In
addition to Christ s crucifixion, Aslan rebirth into Narnia can be directly related to the resurrection
of Jesus. Lewis creates this illusion through Aslan, when he says that a willing victim who had
committed no treachery is killed in a traitor s stead, Death itself would start working

Durkheim Suicide And Suicide
DURKHEIM, SUICIDE, AND SOCIAL COHERENCE
Durkheim s study on suicide
Suicide (French: Le Suicide) was a notable book in the field of humanism. Composed by French
humanist Г‰mile Durkheim and distributed in 1897 it was apparently a contextual analysis of
suicide, a production one of a kind for its time that gave an illustration of what the sociological
monograph ought to resemble. Some argue that it is not a contextual investigation, which makes it
novel among other academic take a shot at the same subject findings.
Durkheim reasoned that:
Suicide rates are higher in men than ladies (albeit married women who stayed childless for various
years wound up with a high suicide rate).
Suicide rates are higher for the individuals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you can t imagine a situation in which killing yourself seems like the best option, you simply
haven t suffered very much. Suicide is, in a sense, the last form of protest against suffering that is
too strong to make life worth living. Sometimes that suffering is purely organic there s something
wrong with your body and it s caused by nothing related to society. But sometimes, suicide is a
protest against being forced to function and give support to a society that is so unfair and unequal
that it s not worth staying alive.
Suicide is a perplexing issue with numerous aspects. Instead of giving in to a narcissistic
apprehension based perspective in which we trust suicide is never right for all individuals, we
ought to educate ourselves more about the reasons for suicide and how best to support individuals
at danger of suicide. A sweeping conviction that suicide is never right, or alright just in instances of
serious agony in end of life circumstances, is stating that suffering individuals have an obligation to
their family, companions, and society to keep on living in intolerable conditions, instead of saying
that society needs to work harder to make individuals lives endurable in the event that it needs
individuals not to submit

Computers and Human-Level Intelligence Essays
Computers are taking more and more jobs and this trend will accelerate as we approach
technological singularity. This is the event when computers will attain human level intelligence
Natalie Wolchover states. The singularity is projected to arrive sometime around 2030 2040, but it
could occur sooner depending on how computertechnology develops. Wolchover states:
Physicist, author and self described futurist Ray Kurzweil has predicted that computers will come to
par with humans within two decades. He told Time Magazine last year that engineers will
successfully reverse engineer the human brain by the mid 2020s, and by the end of that decade,
computers will be capable of human level intelligence.

Singh, Susheela, and Jacqueline E. Darroch conclude:
The trend toward lower adolescent birthrates and pregnancy rates over the past 25 years is
widespread and is occurring across the industrialized world, suggesting that the reasons for this
general trend are broader than factors limited to any one country: increased importance of
education, increased motivation of young people to achieve higher levels of education and training,
and greater centrality of goals other than motherhood and family formation for young women.
This shows that education and even knowledge of other opportunities, contraception and abortions
can lower the population rate allowing fewer burdens on the government over austerity especially in
countries where financial responsibility is not valued as much.
Emotions may help develop morals for human being coexistence. The more we interact with robots,
the more we develop emotional attachment to it. This can even be exploited for profit with
Artificial Intelligence as smart as pets marketed as pets with minimum care, more targeted ads or
functions that can help people. We still have the choice of how to advance computers. The only
issues relating to singularity against are how to divide the power of computers between different
social classes in the world. Corporations want to keep a

Terrorism by the Egyptian Islamic Jihad
Terrorism by the Egyptian Islamic Jihad
Brandin P. Lea
SCTY 488 Terrorism and Homeland Security
December 26, 2010
Professor Eric Witcher
Abstract
It has been the case that over the duration that mankind has graced the planet there has been group s
hell bent on enacting their beliefs and values upon the rest of the world. As time has passed there
have been many times that these groups have changed the face of the planet permanently. You can
look at any organized religious group and see just how they pushed the belief system onto others to
spread their ideology. Now, taking into consideration that fundamentalism and militant groups are
nothing new, you can see that it still affects society greatly even today. Let us look at... Show more

Goals
The primary aim of the group is to establish an Islamic state in Egypt with small secular Arab
governments. The remarkable feature of Egyptian Islamic Jihad as I have learned is a powerful
force challenging the cohesion of states. As a result, Egyptian Islamic Jihad is responsible for a
variety of national and international tensions, such as the revival of communal tension in the
Middle East. The group of radical Egyptian Islamist thinkers took hold of a serious nationalist
conception of jihad and its role in establishing a truly Islamic government (Knapp, 2003).
According to its own self proclaimed dogma, Egyptian Islamic Jihad is prepared to oppose their
understanding of tradition to that of their community s leaders.
Ideology
Ideology of the group is vividly expressed in a pamphlet they circulated years ago The Neglected
Duty which has been lost in time. The pamphlet makes the argument that jihad, as armed action is
the heart of Islam, and neglect of this type of action by any Muslim has caused the current
depressed condition of Islam in the world, of course without taking into consideration the serious
shortcomings of the culture itself. (Knapp, 2003) This violence serves the interests of political and
economic profiteers; it creates its own

Sara Pahlevaan Influence
Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light, an iconic quote, spoken
by Helen Keller, had a impeccable impact on me this year. Some people walk into your life and
change it for the better. That is what Sara Pahlevan did to me. Her kind, charismatic, and
understanding personality makes the whole world smile with her. Sara s influence on me has
given me new insight about the world around us. My first encounter with Sara was not unusual.
Our first meeting was during theater class, everybody sat down in chairs that were preset in a
semicircle with our teacher at the front. Since this was our first class, nobody knew each other.
Since that was the case, everyone had to stand up, say their name, and tell a fun

Imperforate Anus Research Paper
The anus is an opening where bowel movements, or stool, leave the body. Imperforate anus is a
birth defect in which the anus is missing, blocked, or in the wrong place. Imperforate anus can
usually be corrected with surgery. The goal of surgery is to create a safe way for stool to leave the
body.
Imperforate anus repair is usually done when your child is 1 or 2 days old. Additional surgeries
may be done later in childhood. There are several types of repair surgeries. The type of surgery
your child will have depends on your child s specific condition and overall health:
In mild cases, a surgery called perineal anoplasty may be done.
For more severe cases, a temporary surgery called a colostomy may be done. In a colostomy, an
opening is created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This bag collects the stool.
For a posterior sagittal anorectoplasty:
Depending on the specific abnormality, the surgery may require incisions on the abdomen, the
buttocks, or both.
An opening will be made where the anus is supposed to be.
The rectum will be moved and then pulled down to the new opening on the bottom.
If a fistula is seen, the surgeon will close it at this time.
If the child has a colostomy, it usually is left as is for a few months.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
Your child will stay in a recovery area until the anesthesia has worn off. His or her blood pressure
and heart rate will be checked often. Usually a parent or guardian will be able to hold him or her
once he or she starts to wake up. When recovered from the anesthesia, he or she will be moved to
an intensive care area or to a general hospital room.
Most children stay in the hospital for at least a few days after the surgery. This varies based on the
child s age and on the type of surgery that was done.
A cream may be put on the area around the new anus. This protects it from the diaper rash that often
develops because of frequent bowel movements.
Your child will be able to drink during

great deal of contribution to the book Snow Crash because of the virus, Snow Crash. The
significance of the metaverse is the escape of reality it allows its users to feel. The contribution
is almost the same, but the contribution adds an element of reality and happiness. Snow Crash
Snow Crash itself is not a person, but if a person were to be chosen, it would be Raven, the

Winston s personal utopia was most likely the bedroom he and Julia rented from Mr.
Charrington. Like in Snow Crash, Winston s desperation with reality lead him to create his own
utopia where he could get a glimpse of freedom and happiness. The dystopia in 1984 is
everything else outside of the bedroom in Mr. Charrigtons shop. The Book of Eli does not have
a utopia throughout the movie. The closest the movie comes to revealing a utopia is towards the
end when the Bible begins to go through the printing press and when Solara goes back to her
town to potentially make it better. The majority of the movie is dystopian. The Book of Eli does
not break the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a dystopia because it does not have a utopia.
In the Hunger Games the utopia is the Capitol, and the dystopia is the Districts. The people of the
Capitol have better clothing, housing, food, and many more luxuries than the people of the
Districts have. While the people of the Capitol might think they live in a utopia, it is not truly a
utopia because there are people suffering and killing each other among the districts to provide
entertainment for the Capitol. Over all none of the books and films we have read and seen break
the idea that a utopia cannot exist without a

Asoka Dbq Analysis
Asoka: The Enlightened Ruler
Intro: To begin with Asoka has shown good depth into his community and personality, because of
this he is an enlightened ruler. He himself has made many mistakes but fixed them on the journey
of life. For example, he was responsible for many deaths but he showed remorse throughout the
community. Then he spread Buddhism throughout the community. The acts of Asoka showing
remorse, helping his communities, and spreading the Buddha teachings, was clear that Asoka was
an enlightened ruler.
Paragraph 2: Secondly, he showed remorse for what he did in the war of Kalinga. Asoka is
responsible for many death so many people thought he was a ruthless conqueror for endangering
innocent civilians and soldiers. After all the war of Kalinga killed 200,000 people. Also, When
the war in Kalinga was over ... and the people conquered, he felt inside him a great crisis, a
stirring for meaning and a remorse. Eventually, Asoka the ruler of Mauryan Empire felt guilty for
what and how he did the war of Kalinga. So the ruler, he himself, showed remorse to his community.

We Must Make Real Organic Goods
In today s fast moving world it is difficult to keep up with nutrition with early wake up calls and
late night shifts at work. It is really hard to fit a nice healthy meal in between, and finally, when
we get home, we come to the fridge, only to find sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and yummy
scrumptious fat in the fridge. There is nothing like comfort food right? Well, in the U.S their
thousands of organic food stores calming to have better and healthy vegetables, products and
medicine that will detoxify you. However, farmers globally make up only one percent of organic
agricultural land, although with more practices being done in the U.S the percentage globally
would go from one to one point seven percent if you counted all the organic farmers in the U.S.
Due to the low real organic foodsupply and the majority being convectional it is lugubrious to say
that one cannot become detoxed and, if you thought so before doctors are claiming it is
impossible. In order to make real organic goods, we should practice our own organic farmingin
inner cities, and find new and better farming techniques to help the earth. This would also help the
local farmers and the environment.
Like in most inner cities, it s sometimes difficult to catch the bus let alone a good healthy
breakfast the most important meal of the day, but of course, if you are on the run you could
always get a doughnut and processed gas station foods or a quick bite at the diner, but who really
knows where goods on

The University Of North Florida
According to the Gallup Purdue Index Report, only 39% of the over 30,000 college graduates
surveyed had experienced elements of well being as well as felt engaged in their work (Great
Lives 7). Interestingly, the study also found there was no difference if they attended a public,
private, non selective, or a highly selective institution (7). Therefore, graduates of the University
of North Florida ( UNF ) are doing the same in job engagement and well being as graduates from
all other colleges. Thus, less than half the graduates from UNF enjoy overall good lives; UNF
must do better. UNF must revise its educationpolicy with the goal of having all of its graduates
enjoy good jobs and good lives.
Amazingly, based upon my research this is not a Herculean task; the Gallup Purdue Index Report
found that if a graduate had a professor who captivated and mentored the graduate, then that
graduate had more than a 200% likelihood of having job engagement (7). Additionally, graduates
were also shown to have more than a 200% likelihood of being engaged in their job if they had
experiential and deep learning, which was having an internship, a job related to their major, a long
term project, or extracurricular activities while attending college (10 11). Therefore, the jobs and
lives of UNF graduates can be improved if they had been captivated and engaged in learning as
students.

To Kill A Mockingbird Values
Throughout the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, numerous characters establish meaningful values and
morals that will substantially impact their perspectives on life. Life is a matter of what you learn
and how you learn it describes how you enact beliefs through experience. For instance, Scout was
enlightened on racism and learned about the significance of tolerance and acceptance through
Atticus. The children also realize to not listen to rumors through their encounters with Boo Radley.
The statement is pertinent to this story, as it depicts how your life is entrenched based on ethics
and customs.
As a result of To Kill A Mockingbirdtaking place in the 1930s, racism was a common occurrence.

On one occasion, Jem and Scout accompany Calpurnia to First Purchase, an African American
church bought by the first freed slaves. Once they arrive, Lola a member of First Purchase
ridicules Calpurnia for escorting Jem and Scout. Considering it is a African American church and
Jem and Scout are white, Lola demands that the children be removed from the premises.
Experiencing this unjust treatment, Scout realizes that prejudice is not restricted to just one
nationality. Additionally, Jem learns from his encounter with Mrs. Dubose. After destroying
Mrs. Dubose s camellia bushes, Jem is required to read to her everyday for two hours. Through
the daily readings, Jem disciplines himself and is civil to Mrs. Dubose. Unaware, he is slowly
becoming more mature. Following Mrs. Dubose s death, Jem gathers information of Mrs. Dubose
s morphine addiction. Jem comes to respect her tenacity and recognizes her as a woman of
immense courage. Moreover, the case of Tom Robinson vs. Bob Ewell advised Scout that she
should accept her obligations and do what is morally right. For instance, Judge Taylor assigned Tom
Robinson s case to Atticus, although the case could have gone to Maxwell Green who is normally
the judicially assigned attorney. Atticus had the capability of rejecting the case; However, he
abided with his decision to defend Tom Robinson. Through the duration of the trial, Atticus had
tolerated criticism and unmerited acts of hate from the civilians of Maycomb county. Nonetheless,
he argued for Tom Robinson s innocence, despite the jury s final accord. Despite the abuse he faced,
Atticus continually upheld his

Two Mad Scientists Trying to Play God
By Bonique Obermuller

Terry Pratchett once said, God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of
His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players. In
the novels Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells the
characters Victor Frankenstein and Dr. Moreau are scientists who take their experiments too far.
Both Victor and Moreau are very smart men who want to experiment with nature. Victor is smart
and curious. Victor wants to fight disease and discover the mysteries of nature. Moreau is a very
ruthless barbaric man who does not take the feelings of others into consideration. ... Show more

And it is here, on this very island, that I sir, have found the very essence of the Devil. (The Island
of Doctor Moreau) His work is different to Victors because it surrounds the concept of fabricating
these grotesque part human part animal hybrid creatures. It seems that Moreau wants to become a
kind of God like figure, and to rule over his new race of people . One can say that Moreau is an
impatient man. It is understood that he wants to create life but the speed with which he wants to
do is like that of God in the book of Genesis. He said, Each time I dip a living creature into the
bath of burning pain, I say, This time I will burn out the entire animal, this time I will make a
rational creature of my own. After all, what is ten years? Man has been a hundred thousand in the
making (The Island of Doctor Moreau 146 147). In his opinion one one hundred thousand years
was much too long for him; like the God in the Christian Religion, create a problem solving
thinking creature with a conscience after the image of himself and other humans. Hence, both men
in their own way demonstrate a scientist perusing their experimentations and trying to play an all
powerful God; and attempt to bend the laws of nature to fit their sinister agendas.
Although there are similarities between Victor and Moreau that cannot be ignored, the differences
are also pronounced. Especially differences in character more so the difference in the way they

The equation for radiation resistance is given in (1). As can be seen, the greater the radiation
resistance, the more energy is radiated or received by the antenna. When the radiation resistance of
the antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas
also have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient
antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size.
(4.6)
A second parameter of antennas is the
Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space.
Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three
dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane
patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H
plane pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. An example of each type is
shown in Figure 4.1, which gives the antenna pattern for a half wave dipole orientated in the z
direction.

  • 2. Genetic Mutation In biology, term mutation has been described as changes to the base pair sequence of the genetic material of an organism. Mutations can be caused by: copying errors in the genetic material during cell division, by exposure to ultraviolet or ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, or viruses, or can occur deliberately under cellular control during processes such as hypermutation. In multicellular organisms, mutations can be subdivided into germ line mutations, which can be passed on to descendants, and somatic mutations, which cannot be transmitted to descendants in animals. Plants sometimes can transmit somatic mutations to their descendants asexually or sexually (in case when flower buds develop in somatically mutated part of plant). A... This disease produces chronic anemia, which may become life threatening when hemolytic crises (the breakdown of redblood cells) or aplastic crises (bone marrow fails to produce blood cells) occur. The incidence of this disorder is 1/400 African Americans and 8/100,000 people. The manifestations of this disease are a result of the fragility and inflexibility of the sickle red bloodcells. When exposed to a lack of water, infection, and low oxygen supply, these delicate red blood cells take the shape of a crescent. This then causes blood cell devastation and thickening of the blood. Sickle cell anemia has the potential to be life threatening and can affect other body systems and parts of the body. Those included are the nervous system, bones, the kidneys and the liver. Maternal PKU is a genetic disorder that stems from point mutation. 1/15,000 people fall victim to this disorder. Phenylketonuria (PKU) has been shown as a cause of retardation in infant fetuses. Children in the fetus begin with a normal amount of phenylalanine hydroxylase but are affected by the mother s elevated phenylalanine level due to the imbalance of prenatal amino acid. The societal attitudes towards the behavior of homosexuality vary substantially across Asia. Surprisingly, there are two conflicting attitudes toward homosexuality. Some Asian countries strongly condemn against homosexuality, whereas some Asian countries visibly accept homosexuality. Judith Butler explained that gender is represented as a stylized repetition of acts or imitation. She described the categories of sexuality and gender as a form of performativity (Butler 1996, 368). It was released in the year 1993, covering the period of the Chinese social upheavals between the 1920s through to the 1970s in the setting of the Beijing Opera. The film raises the attitude of homosexuality in the most painful period of the traditional Chinese history, for the Chinese and Western viewers (Lau 1995, 22). Despite that, China holds a strong homosexual stigma within the twentieth century. According to Lau, this film was an opportunity to stimulate the inherent of the Beijing Opera in relation to the homosexual practices that were tolerated during the era (Lau 1995, 22). Zheng further suggested that the film was also a chance to understand the homophobic anxiety of the historical and political brutality in Chinese history (Zhang 1999, 101). The film attempts to illustrate that the Chinese cultural connections and homosexuality cannot coexist. The main protagonist, Cheng Dieyi, sense of identity is heavily reinforced by the power structure within the environment through harsh symbolic rapes. Lau suggested that the symbolic rapes, such as the loss of finger and getting a pipe forced into the mouth are indications of homosexuality (Lau 1995, 23). • 6. Sustainability Planning For Sustainable Policies Essay Addressing the challenges and opportunities in environmental policy making requires the analyses of various interweaving aspects which at times is almost impossible when utilizing a single tool under any given circumstance. The primary reason for sustainability planning in Forest Management, Wildlife Conservation and Rangeland Managementlies in ensuring natural resources serve the present as well as future population. However, it is impossible to convince the population that is being driven by economic needs to abide by sustainable policies without concrete reasons; this brings in the notion of science based decision making. Just in case a significant portion of the resources have been destroyed before the enforcement of the sustainable policies, a marketing solution would be employed to prevent further destruction as restoration is underway. Finally, a collaborative planning model would be applied to prevent recurrence of the incidences that led to destruction with the aim of conserving what is left by involving a larger crowd in decision making. In summary, sustainability cannot be attained without the input of scientific research, collaborative management, and marketing solution. The focus of this paper is on Public Lands Management, the attention will be given to the challenges and opportunities that lie within. Therefore, this section will concentrate on the collaborative management tool. It will describe the pro s and con s in environmental policy making Davis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Colonization Of North America Prior to English colonization of North America, slavery in Europe was a common institution that created a social class in the societies of various nations. When the colonization of the New World in North America began, along with English settlers came the institution of slavery. In the dawn of English colonization, the practice of indentured servitude was utilized to provide labor necessary to produce crops in exchange for transportation to the New World, and a opportunity for new beginnings. As trade in the Atlantic World progressed, slavery replaced indentured servitude in order for African Chiefdoms to gain profit, and colonial farmers to gain free labor. As the method for obtaining labor for producing cash crops transitioned from indentured servitude to slavery, specifically African chattel slavery, slavery itself developed into a staple institution for colonial economies, and set up for tensions between the small but influential population of slaveowners and African slaves that caused slavery to become difficult to overcome in future years. In the eyes of English political leaders, the colonization of the New World benefited the English economy in ways of taxation, the mercantilism system, and new opportunities for goods to flourish in English markets. The first established English colony of Jamestown displayed the difficulties of colonization in foreign land, but the work of John Rolfe to develop and perfect the farming of tobacco saved the colony. The theme of 2 Timothy is Paul trying to impress his final instructions and encouragement onto Timothy. Within the letter of 2 Timothy, Paul encouraged Timothy through five prominent subjects ; foundations of Christian service, chapter of metaphors, the last days, Godinspired Scriptures and Paul s farewell (Jensen 1981, 396 398). Paul writes about the burdens of his heart, he does this to inspire and challenge his young successor Timothy to keep witnessing for Christ. Paul knew that the foundations of the gospel were impenetrable, and if he encouraged Timothy, he would not falter. After Paul encouraged Timothy about the foundations of Christian service, he goes on to explain these in the metaphor chapter. Paul explains to Timothy about the ministry itself, by mastering the use of metaphors to describe persons, things, and actions. These metaphors Paul uses help explain to Timothy what Paul considered to be the last days, where he forewarns Timothy about the difficult times that are to come upon the world (Jensen 1981, 396). A Scientific experiment that lacks one these features will most likely be flawed. All experiments have to have a testable question. For a question to be testable, you have to be able to do an experiment to answer it. The question shouldn t be too easy that you can t even test it. Will the growth of the plant be affected by the color of the light? is an example of a testable question because you can design an experiment to answer this question. You can use 5 different colors with 5 similar plants and see and observe how their growth is affected for at least a week or more. A non example of a testable question would be Which is a better flavor of ice cream, vanilla or chocolate? This is not a testable question because it is an opinionated question, and you do not need an experiment to answer it. In addition, an experiment should also have a well defined question which means that it is clear and not vague. It also means that it is not too broad that it will take such a long time to answer, but it should not be too narrow that there s no need for experimentation or research.... In our country, today it s pretty apparent there is a type of fear of Muslims, so much so that 7 heavy populated Muslimcountries are not permitted from entering the United States of America. Alexis de Tocqueville s Democracy in America Essay example Alexis de Tocqueville s visit to the United States in the early part of the nineteenth century prompted his work Democracy in America, in which he expressed the ability to make democracy work. Throughout his travels Tocqueville noted that private interest and personal gain motivated the actions of most Americans, which in turn cultivated a strong sense of individualism. Tocqueville believed that this individualism would soon sap the virtue of public life (395) and create a despotism of selfishness. This growth of despotism would be created by citizens becoming too individualistic, and therefore not bothering to fulfill their civic duties or exercise their freedom. He believes that like local governments, associations help people to realize their dependence on their fellow citizens and take interest in public affairs. It is crucial to have institutions and civic duties which force people to look beyond their own interests and think about the problems of the community. As soon as several of the inhabitants of the United States have taken up an opinion or a feeling which they wish to promote to the world, they look out for mutual assistance; and as soon as they have found one another out, they combine. From that moment they are no longer isolated men, but a power seen from afar, whose actions serve for an example and whose language is listened to (407). The American Of The British Empire In marked contrast to the monarchy and the dispute about the rights of succession and control over the Spanish Empire, the American colonies sought independence from the British monarchy and government. The first step has already been attempted with the establishment of the Euro, the common European currency, which has been outperformed by its monetary competitors. Substance for the Stoics, is also seen as a monist philosophy. Because Stoics think of the world as a unitary system that contains all beings they should be considered substance monism. This is often cited as the clearest example of how Spinoza was most influenced by Stoic philosophy. However, Spinoza states that there is only one substance, but further from that, he unambiguously signals that understanding it is a prerequisite to understanding the epistemological, psychological, and moral issues where as for the Stoics this is not completely obvious; nor it is obvious that they place substance at the basis of all philosophical investigation. From the Stoic view, they do make philosophical investigation being with nature: we must first learn about it before we can advance to logic and ethics. So upon initial thought, one might think although they may not call it substance, the Stoics do have nature and its conceptual and argumentative status seems similar to that of Spinozistic substance. Therefore, because the Stoics have a concept that is equivalent in key respects to Spinoza s substance, the differences that I stated above may appear not so great after all. What lies at the heart of Stoic monism is the intuition that the world constitutes a genuine and well integrated whole, but by contrast, Spinozistic monism is held to be based on either ... • 34. A Brief Note On Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch And Othmar... Throughout the course of history there have been many advances in the world of infrastructure, mostly occurring in the 1800 s and the 1900 s. Infrastructure is defined as the basic physical and organizational structure needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services and facilities necessary for an economy to function. This definition shows how important infrastructure is to people s lives today. It affects how people live, travel, and communicate with one another. Three men who made huge contributions in the world of infrastructure were Robert Moses, Richard Ravitch and Othmar Hermann Ammann. All three of these men were involved in designing numerous landmarks, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other forms of infrastructure that today we take for granted. Although all of these men were involved in infrastructure in the New York metropolitan area, their contributions, personalities, and the public s opinion of them were all different. Robert Moses was born in New Haven Connecticut. He is considered the master builder of New York City, Long Island, Rockland county, and Westchester county of the mid 1900 s. After graduating from Yale and earning a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia, Robert Moses became attracted to New York City reform politics. Moses caught the notice of Belle Moskowitz, an advisor to Al Smith. Moses rose to power with Al Smith, who became governor of New York in 1922. • 36. Reasons For File A Police Report Essay CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction This chapter provides background of the study and presents the problem statement. It clarifies the research objectives, research questions, and describes the significance of the study. Organization of the remaining chapters is provided towards the end of this chapter. We focus on the modelling of policereporting processes in Malaysia. The fact that everybody knows, under the law, people have the right to lodge a police report. In the past, the police would actually dissuade people from filing a police report some times. One could not get their schedule as to when those times struck and so that made it difficult and frustrating. They will tell people it is not required or there is no point because they will not investigate or take any further action, or give people excuses to send people from station to station until people get so frustrated, or just flat out refuse to take down the complaint. There are many reasons to file a police report. Some of the most common reasons are to ease of finding and arresting a suspect in a crime, adding serial numbers to statewide databases to recover stolen property and tracking criminal activity in various areas to prevent future crimes. A police report should be filed in the city or jurisdiction where the crime occurred. They need to get the most accurate information possible to conduct a thorough investigation. Resilience is the ability to prevent short term events from turning into long term community disasters. At the beginning of this film, we are the eyewitnesses of the discussion between Churchill, Halifax and Chamberlain. It was the so called May 1940 War Cabinet Crisis . After the long conversation, they took a decision to appoint the next Prime Minister in the person of Churchill. He was the best choice to lead the war and Britain s battle against Nazi Germany. He was a talented orator and with his speeches he tried to boost up the morale of the British nation. He was a close friend of Roosevelt and this friendship started after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Churchill s reception as a victorious war leader was mixed. The King of UK, George IV fully supported him as a leader. The main reason was that the British people wanted full employment and proper welfare state. During the speech in the radio, Churchill tried to prove the socialists were not allowing the free speech, but on the other side they would like to fall back on some form of Gestapo . This statement caused his failure of the July 1945 election. In conclusion, definitely I think he was the best war leader of all times. Second is the gender limitation as in this project was just one female and four males, and it would have been better to have more females to compare the results between them, because females scores are always different then males scores. Time was another obstacle, because if there would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. In this research project all the variables have been controlled, but there were a few unexpected variables: one of the participants did his best in the first attempt, but after the warm up he performed the test just for the sake of doing it, putting no effort in it at all, wanting to finish faster. Another extraneous variable was the slippery floor which made some of the participants to add a few seconds extra to their score. 9. Summary Of The White Witch And Jadis For instance, the wrongfully professed queen of Narnia, represents evil in the theme of Christianity and is possibly even a symbolic figure of satan himself. The White Witch Jadis is a power hungry, sadistic person who claimed the throne of Narnia by brute force. When she first appears in the novel, it s through the distressed conversation between Lucy and Tumnus. This immediately gives the White Witch a vile and villainous image. However, it s not until the Witch runs into Edmund, when the reader can truly start to see the connections between the witch and her biblical counterparts. The witch s right to kill sinners is therefore an actual representation of satan s capacity to impose spiritual death upon those who have fallen into transgression. Lewis uses the White Witch to symbolize all that is evil in the theme of christianity and possibly even the prince of darkness himself. Then there s Aslan, the son of the Emperor and the true king of Narnia. Aslan symbolizes all that is good and stands for a literal representation of Jesus Christ. When Jadis comes to speak with Aslan, she comes demanding Edmund, the son of Adam. She cites the Emperors deep magic, which states that traitors must forfeit their lives to her. However, Aslan feels responsible for the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Thus, he trades places with Edmund and sacrifices his own life to atone for Edmunds sins. When Aslan died, he was really a mass of cords , bound to a stone table. At this point, it becomes clear that Lewis is drawing parallels between Aslan s sacrifice and Christ s Crucifixion. This is evident because like Aslan, Christ sacrifices his own life, and was bound to a cross when he died for the sins of others. In addition to Christ s crucifixion, Aslan rebirth into Narnia can be directly related to the resurrection of Jesus. Lewis creates this illusion through Aslan, when he says that a willing victim who had committed no treachery is killed in a traitor s stead, Death itself would start working ... A sweeping conviction that suicide is never right, or alright just in instances of serious agony in end of life circumstances, is stating that suffering individuals have an obligation to their family, companions, and society to keep on living in intolerable conditions, instead of saying that society needs to work harder to make individuals lives endurable in the event that it needs individuals not to submit ... The group of radical Egyptian Islamist thinkers took hold of a serious nationalist conception of jihad and its role in establishing a truly Islamic government (Knapp, 2003).
