Ethanol And Fuel Properties Of Ethanol
Ethanol contains a two carbon alcohol and six hydrogen (C2H6O) and has low cetane number (8), low
heating value (26.8) and low viscosity (1.08) at 40ï‚°. Table 5. shows the properties of diesel, gasoline,
ethanol, acetone and butanol. Furthermore, the stability of any blend is an im portant factor in fuel
properties. The most significant issue of using ethanol with diesel is solu bility and miscibility.
Therefore, the use of biodiesel is an important method to stabilise ethanol in diesel [119, 124]. In order
to maintain the stability of ethanol diesel blends, two types of additive methodologies are normally
employed: the addition of surfactants (emulsifiers) that yield stable emulsions or micro emulsion, and
the addition of co solvent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effects of adding of vegetable methyl ester to diesel ethanol blends were studied by Chen et al.
[152], who observed that the addition of ester to diesel ethanol blends prevents phase separation up to
30% by volume to maintain the homogeneity of blends
Other significant research has undertaken by Barabás et al. [119] who investigated to 27 mix ture
samples of ethanol, biodiesel and diesel in different ratios. The experiments showed that only seven
samples were suitable in terms of miscibility and stability and two samples (B10D85E5 and
B25D70E5) could successfully replace diesel.
4.2.2 Ethanol blend Tested in CI Engines
Blending ethanol with diesel fuel has several issues in terms of performance and emission lev els. A
number of studies have examined the effect of ethanol on thermal efficiency, brake power, fuel
consumption and emission levels. Some research [114, 120, 125, 126] obtained dif ferent results in
terms of performance and emission levels. Most of this research agreed that ethanol causes an increase
in fuel consumption (BSFC) and a decrease in the efficiency of the diesel engines. Chen et al. [120]
showed that ethanol could decrease some types of emissions such as smoke and PM because high
oxygen content helps to complete the combustion. When vegetable methyl ester was added to

The Babylonian Exile And The Color Purple Essay
Conceptions of God has the ability to be altered in order to mediate and bring together social and
political forces, as seen in Alice Walker s The Color Purple and the Babylonian Exile. Both examples
display the challenges some experience with their perception of God and how their outlook impacts
outlying forces. These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the individual s daily
lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and how their viewpoint of
God can interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a definite view of God is
highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the two main characters, Celie
and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God. Celie described her perception
of God as being big and old and tall and gray bearded and white as ... Show more content on

The Babylonian Exile was a time in which Jewish people were exiled from Jerusalem and forced to
live in Babylon as captives. During the Babylonian Exile, many Jewish people had only faith to hold
onto as a way of staying strong and not succumbing to their situation and perceived God, or Jeremiah,
as their light and support system. In a letter to the Babylon Exiles from the prophet Jeremiah, he gives
words of wisdom to the exiles by encouraging them to maintain their faith, reproduce and emphasized
the need to hear the word of the LORD as those who have not will receive severe punishment. In their
case, the Israelites perception of God grew stronger to aid them in their situation, as well as help
mediate the social and political forces that were apparent during this time. They were able to create a
sense of unity with each other in a time of political uprising and learn to adapt to their situation

Essay on The History and Context of Club Culture
The History and Context of Club Culture
History is hard to know because of all the hired bullshit, but
even without being sure of history it seems entirely reasonable
that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes
to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really
understands at the time, and which never explain, in retrospect,
what really happened
(Hunter.S.Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas )
The late 1980 s saw the emergence of a hugely significant social phenomenon. Rave culture (or club

(McRobbie and Thornton 1995:559). Cosgrove (1989) however suggests that the press took some time
to discover rave culture. Collin (1997) suggests that when it was initially covered by The Sun in
August 1988, reports were largely positive, endorsed as the latest dance craze, with the paper even
marketing its own smiley face logo T shirts. Hostility quickly ensued however after two deaths from
ecstasy in June and October followed by a police drugs raid on a boat party in November. By
September 1988 the ritualised sequence of moral panic exaggerated press reports, misleading
headlines, self appointed moral spokesmen demanding action and weekend on weekend of police raids
was unfolding (Collin 1997:90). A Daily Mail editorial (26th June 1989) claimed that Acid House is a
façade for dealing in drugs of the worst sort on a massive scale and a cynical attempt to trap young
people into drug dependency under the guise of friendly pop music events . (cited in Collin 1997:97).
However, as with all moral panics the media s and therefore the public s fears had a relatively short
lifespan (Cohen 1972; McRobbie and Thornton 1995). As raves began move into the confines of
nightclubs media attention began to fade and even occasional deaths were reported as isolated
incidents.

The Woman In Black Play Review
On Thursday 29th September 2016, we attended a performance of The Woman in Black at the Fortune
Theatre in the West End, London. It was set in a traditional proscenium arch theatre which is situated
on an enclosed street which applies to the horror genre and the idea of isolation. The size of the theatre
was alarmingly small with compact seating, creating a sense of claustrophobia, suffocation and lack of
escape from The Woman in Black . The stage seemed diminutive with the curtain, and the
minimalistic set with old fashioned props instantly set a Victorian impression. The minimalism
conveyed how the actors could present a play without ostentatious props and keep the focus on
themselves. The monochromatic colours of the programme enhance ... Show more content on

In the rehearsal scene, there were references to the sound technician. This was a Brechtian technique
of the audience being aware of a play within a play. Most sound effects were specific and recorded,
like the city hustle and bustle, the screams and the voices when reading things aloud. However, the
one sound that stood out to me was the music box. Being the only live sound we hear, relates to the
naturalism of the nursery and how Jennet Humfrye s love for her son is infinite. Music boxes were
commonly a gift for a child, or a token of love for a partner in the Victorian times. The idea of love is
additionally demonstrated when Kipps is reading a letter alongside Stella. This shows his
remembrance of her voice and how much he misses her. The ticking of the clock at the beginning of
the play reminds the audience of a countdown, a signal that something is about to happen. This relates
to the rhythmic rocking of the chair, similar to a heartbeat, echoing around the house, resembling
Nathaniel s pulse. This again adds humanity to the nursery. When Kipps stops the chair from rocking,
everything is silent which signifies the death of Nathaniel and how in reality he is gone. Contrasting to
the naturalism, there is repetition of the Woman s screams. These created an abstract soundscape that
made the audience feel frightened, mimicking the discomforting feeling of the horror genre. The Pony
and Trap sounds came

comparing and contrasting all three of them.
This is how all three are alike. All of the group are from Mexico, but they didn t come at the same

Pros And Cons Of European Exploration
In my opinion, the benefits of European exploration did not outweigh the consequences. To support
my opinion, this essay will include three topics that each show both pros and cons. Those topics
include the Columbian Exchange, Smallpox, and Columbus s voyages. First, the Columbian Exchange
took place between the old and new world. The old world gave the new world things such as horses,
pigs, and cows. They also gave the new world wheat, sugar, rice, and coffee. Also, the Columbian
Exchange resulted in cultural division. Lastly, the Columbian Exchange caused many Native
Americans to die from European diseases. Another reason that I think that the pros don t outweigh the
cons is that Smallpox had killed many people. Paragraph ne of

Paradox Of National Identity Summary
The reading Paradox of National Identity: Region, Nation, and Canadian Idol by Boulou Ebanda, and
Ruth Middlebrook focuses on the 2006 season of Canada Idol and how it manufactures the Canadian
identity. The authors argue that the Canadian identity has regional differences is a great example of
othering which is characterizing individuals as different and alien to the norm. This can be seen in the
paper by applying a powerful status to the in group which are the urban cities (the norm ) compared to
the others who are the rural, [p]oor, recent immigrants . . . refugees, religious but not Christian, and

Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies Essay
Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies
When many people hear the word therapy, they think of something that has caused a problem and has
to be fixed. In most cases, that is true. Most people think the problem may be an injury that has to be
rehabilitated or an extreme mental problem where the person needs serious help. However, therapy
does not always deal with injured or mentally troubled people. Three types of therapy that help a wide
range of people with their problems are physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
Physical therapy is the one that deals mostly with injuries and their rehabilitation. According to the
Occupational Outlook Handbook, Physical therapists provide services that help restore ... Show more

The other type of therapy that may deal some with injuries is occupational therapy. Enhancing fine
motor skills is the focus of this therapy. Occupational therapists set a goal for their patients which
enables them to have more independent, productive, and satisfying lives by teaching them how to
perform daily functions without the aid of others. Some of these functions may include eating, getting
dressed, or using the bathroom. Exercises that improve balance, coordination, trunk control, dexterity,
and basic muscle movement are used towards a person s road to an easier lifestyle. Occupational
therapists work mainly with people who have disabilities. These may include people with spinal cord
injuries, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or people who have had a stroke ( Occupational ).
Occupational therapy is my current major of study, so I am doing volunteer work for several therapists
right now at Parent Child Services in West Knoxville. It is very interesting to sit and observe each
session. I am presently observing a four year old victim of near drowning who was thought to be dead,
but was brought back to life. His focus is on balance and coordination right now. I am also observing a
child with cerebral palsy. He is one of my favorite children to work with. He is working on
strengthening his muscles in his trunk and legs while continuing to work on balance and coordination.

Paget Disease Studies
Hi Gi Hwa Shin, I appreciate your presentation on paget disease because you topic challenged me to

Paget disease is a chronic condition characterised by lesions of bone resulting from disordered
remodelling in which excessive bone resorption initially results in lytic lesions followed by
disorganized and excessive bone formation (Gracia et al 2012).
The etiology of paget s disease of bone (PDB) is unknown, but I would consider the influence of
hereditary and environmental factors in paget disease. A viral cause has been proposed based upon

I Want to Study Events Management Essay
I wish to study Events Management at university as I am studying HNC Events at college and have
learned how complex and intricate this subject is through the units I have studied and the practical
work I have completed. I have also discovered the incredible sense of achievement you obtain when

allowing me to expand on the skills and knowledge I have gained from college. I hope to study Events

Outside of college I also have a part time job at Primark. I feel this job has given me good decision
making skills as I have learnt how to merchandise as well as ordering stock. I have also found I can
work well under pressure as I often have to work to deadlines and need to manage my time well. I
have found that these skills are valuable and somewhat essential when working on events. As I am a
very creative person I have found Events to be a subject that suits my interests and personality. Since
high school I have been interested in the arts and still enjoy painting and drawing in my spare time as
well as listening to music. My experience of going to events myself has also influenced my choices
for university as I have recently seen several bands play in Edinburgh and Glasgow. As music has
always been an interest to me, I would be really attentive in learning more about live music events in
particular and possibly being involved with organising one in the future.
I hope that by completing my course at college and then going on to study Events Management at
university I will be able to seek a career organising and managing events in the music or fashion
industry as these are both subjects which fascinate me. I am attracted to these subjects as a result of
my creative skills and interests and believe I am well suited to these areas in particular. Specifically, T

The Dubliners By James Joyce
James Joyce s 1914 collection of 15 short stories The Dubliners has the continuous theme of money
which further dwells into the idea of class systems, how colonies became a dichotomy, and how in the
end, the colonists were nearly the same. Since Joyce writes these stories in the early 20th Century,
there has been a large history behind colonization and the life that comes with it. In using everyday
examples or little segments of the average day, Joyce expresses the idea and components of the class
system in Dublin which shows the distinction and yet the similarities between the impoverished and
the well to do. James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was born into a middle class family in 41 Brighton
Square, Rathgar, Dublin, which is a fairly nice area of Dublin. The family fell apart and they had to
move to northern Dublin, a very undesirable and unpleasant area to live in. In spite of having a out of
order household with an alcoholic father and unreliable income and finances, Joyce went to a
prestigious Jesuit high school and excelled there. Joyce then went on to college and transcended. With
all these past experiences, Joyce had learned the ways of living without the concern of money and had
also learned the ways of living with the concern of money and making ends meet. This situation was
not rare, for in fact, it happened to many denizens of Dublin. With this outlook and standpoint on life,
Joyce was compelled to write the tales of his miserable contemporaries. He compiled

differences in both the book and the movie of Rikki tikki tavi. The three ways that express the
similarities and differences of the story of Rikki tikki tavi are the characters, the setting, and the

The Importance Of Employee Uniforms
Introduction Have you ever wondered why companies make their employees wear a specific uniform
or wear a specific style of pant and shirt? Well, there are many reasons why; one, the company may
use their uniform as part of their organization s colors. This allows the employee to feel they are part
of the organization and it allows the consumer to identify a company purely from the colors on a
uniform. Just within the past year, a sitcom television show called Superstore. Those who watch this
sitcom, quickly realizes how those who wrote the scripts and chose the actors clothing did so to poke
fun directly towards Wal Mart. Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos,
and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no
exception. Whether it is in a business setting, a restaurant, or even a doctor s office, a person s
perception towards another is determined by initial contact. Despite a single office or profession;
employers need to consider a dress code to ensure the safety of all employees. Moreover, some
employees do not direct a dress code as a way to save operational costs, while some provide the
employees with a shirt and the employee must wear a specific type and color of pant. Sure, the dress
code for employees can be unattractive, however, the employer is not paying the person to look good
or seek a partner. Employers need to explain the reason the companies uniforms are designed and

The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot
T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as being
the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads one to the
conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be made that
Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe through his
poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this barren place
there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint moonlight, the
grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under the moonlight
reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or created. Eliot scatters
The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile periods of society in
previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order to illustrate nature and
life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s poem continually changes
due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is strange to think of a description
of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought in a desolate dessert, yet also talks
about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself
in his discussion. Water is a symbol of fertility, how can this

The Pros And Cons Of Biblical Predestination
Throughout time biblical scriptures have been interpreted differently by different religions, scholar s,
and languages. Many theologians have provided different interpretations based off their mentors and
time they lived. Using works from the Sacra Pagina Series, Norton Bible scriptures, and excerpts from
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and teaching of John Calvin this essay will show the vast differences of
interpretations in just one biblical scripture let alone throughout the entire bible and its many
interpretations. Luke 13:23 24 reads Someone asked him, Lord, are only a few people going to be
saved? He said to them, strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to
enter and will not be able to. (The King James Bible). Very early in our Christian experiences we are
taught that God is a saving and merciful God, however, some theologians such as John Calvin
believed that God predestined all mankind. They are either predestined to heaven or hell. One of
theologians John Calvin benchmark verses was Luke 13:23. He used this verse to show that our God
is not a saving God, but indeed a selective God. According to John Calvin predestination theory; all
men are predestined for either heaven or hell regardless of their life choices and acceptance of Jesus
Christ as their savior. To examine the Bible verse Luke 13:23, you see that St. Luke recounts that
everyone will be brought to lift through Jesus. However, how does one know that only a few of

How Hip Hop Connects With Many Different Real World Problem
Chang writes in his book about how hip hop connects with many different real world problem going
on politically and socially in many different places. He tells a story of a beaten and battered area of
South Bronx. In this small area there was no law or order since many jobs were lost and most of what
was left there were people of color from different parts of the world, including Puerto Rico and
Jamaica. Due to the lack of protection Chang tells us that gangs were created as a means of protection
from the junkies and other scavengers. Their way of dealing with things was very violent in nature,
later on when more and more gangs started popping up they became territorial. They attacked other
members who wore their colors on another gang s turf. South Bronx became a very dangerous place
full of nothing but youthful gangs and gang related violence. Socially it was the lack of jobs and other
necessities that led to the creation of hip hop. There became a treaty of sorts, although its terms weren
t really discussed, but the gangs decided instead of focusing on violence and other things maybe they
could focus on music to show the world their struggle. So all the different gangs started producing
different strands of what we call hip hop. Each had different roots in it that all became mixed into a
sort of melting pot.
The four elements are DJing, B boying, MCing, and graffiti. The appeal of Hip Hop was how it
brought to light the struggle that was going on in South Bronx and all

Progressive Independent Party Analysis
With Hillary Clinton s recent self proclamation of securing the Democratic nomination, along with the
heated 2016 presidential election, has come an Independent, Progressive political movement, with
citizens calling for action against a system widely believed to have failed them.

us who feel disenfranchised; Progressives, Greens, Democratic Socialists, Independents, and
frustrated Democrats and Republicans alike, can feel empowered in the promise of democracy in our
country, says Araquel Bloss, founder of the Progressive Independent Party.
The Party began simply as an online petition written by Ms. Bloss, which quickly went viral after co

states, Her vision was simple, eloquent, and absolutely right the hell on time: Let s build a coalition of

Observational Learning Experience
If I were to have a five year old nephew and I were to have to teach him something I would mostly
likely use a combination of reinforcers and observational learning. Both positive and negative
punishment would be implemented in the teaching process, as well as the observational part so that
they all compliment each other. Most likely I would begin to teach him to play baseball and basketball
since most, including myself, start around that age. Although, I would not be as hard on him as my
brothers were on me when it came to sports.
I would begin to teach him baseball since it is my favorite. Before any actual practice begins I would
explain the simple form of the concept of the game. The object of the game, some terminology, etc.

Again I was always taught in more of a punishment type approach and again it worked for me, but I
believe it depends on the kid that is being taught and how they handle it. The same goes for basketball
as it did baseball, I would teach him the concept and objective of the game. When a kid this age is
being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance and on how to do
everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. When it comes to basketball once he
has the concept down and I have taught him how to do everything correctly, I would take more of
punishment route. For example, if he keeps missing lay ups, I would make him make fifty before he
could move on to anything else. If he has trouble dribbling, then I would make him do dribbling drills
until he has started to improve. The same goes for baseball too. Punishment in a form that improves
his game by making him to the same thing over and over again until he gets better. My punishment in
both sports was that I would always have to run if I messed up repeatedly. That only makes you want
to do better, which makes you better in the long run, but making him repeat what he needs to improve
has more of a direct correlation in helping his weak aspects of the

Like many other Nazi occupied countries, Hungary suffered great loss of Jewish citizens. Similarity to
other Nazi occupied countries, Hungarian authorities with alliance with German authorities removed
many Jewish people out from Hungary. The Hungarian government and Orban himself, deny that the
Hungarian government had anything to do with the expulsion of thousands of Jewish citizens. Orban
admits that only individual officials of Hungary and not the Hungarian government collaborated. One
of the major controversies of this campaigned was the Memorial to the Victims of the German
Occupation. The memorial gives tribute to the thousands of Hungarian Jews affected during the war,
but faced backlash for being too literal and an attack to Germans. It blamed only German on the anti
Semitism in Hungary and take responsibility for the own faults. In Orban s words It can hardly be
disputed that Germany bears responsibility for what happened after March 19, 1994.... We cannot bear
a responsibility that is not ours to bear. He also makes it clear that it was Germans and not Nazis who
were responsible for the occupation of Hungary. Attacking Germany for the Nazi s crime is not new to
Europe, however this sort of antagonization of Germany really does not make since in modern times.

Analysis Of Anne BradstreetUpon The Burning Of Our House
In the early 1700 s and 1800 s, American literature progressively developed. The American writers
stressed different themes depending on the era they were writing in. During the Colonial era, Anne
Bradstreet wrote a poem describing her puritan view on her house burning down. Esther Edwards
writes The Awful Sweetness of Walking with G d , a diary entry describing her daily life being part of
a very religious family. During the revolutionary era, Benjamin Franklin published an article that
offers advice on improving character. Additionally, Thomas Paine writes a pamphlet urging the
colonists to take part in the fight against Britain. Throughout the colonial period, writers focused on
responsibility to involve G d in their daily life, while writers from the revolutionary era focused on the
responsibility of self improvement and morals.
Anne Bradstreet includes a theme of responsibility to G d in her poem, Upon the Burning of our
House . Bradstreet feels that G d is in control, and she therefore feels deeply indebted to G d,
providing her with the ability and clarity needed to cope with any troubles. Anne stares terrified as her
house burns down to the ground, and at first, she is stunned and says: That fearful sound of fire and
fire, let no man know is my desire . In her opinion, fire was a fearful thing that no person should ever
have to endure. One would think that her next thought would be rage directed at G d, but she is far
from angry. Instead, she blessed G d: I blest

Background Of The Canterbury Tales
Before Geoffrey Chaucer could write The Canterbury Tales, he needed a reason to write them. That
reason was the history of Canterbury. Everything comes with a past, but like most of English history,
Canterbury has an engrossing history attached to the name. This includes brown nosing, jealousy, and
murder. Everything that is usually associated with a church.
The history of the Canterbury Cathedral is riveting. According to the cathedral s website, it was built
between 1070 and 1077. The next half century went by quietly, then around 1118 a boy named
Thomas a Becket was born. Not much is known about his early life, but he eventually became
chancellor, or secretary, for King Henry II of England. They grew to be close comrades. Amy Miller, a
Junior Scholastic writer for New York, in the article The Murder of St. Thomas a Becket published in
Scholastic Inc., explains, Henry and Becket became close friends. They often hunted together, and the
king gave Becket expensive gifts. Henry enjoyed his chancellor s company so much that he even
dropped by Becket s home unannounced (1). The friendship that had developed between the king and
Thomas would soon turn deadly.
King Henry did great work in the start of his reign. The young king did not disappoint his subjects.
During his reign, trade increased, towns grew, and great cathedrals were built throughout the English
countryside. The country was so prosperous that it became known as Merrie England (Miller 1). Then

country where drive by shooting, street killings, violent rap lyrics and the death of 3 of the most
profound artists to grace the hip hop scene have graced the cover of newspapers and made headlines

Analysis Of The Documentary Nigel Morris Empire Of Light
Nigel Morris Empire of Light offers numerous criticisms of Spielberg s Indiana Jones series. His
conclusions draw on the subconscious biases of the film with topics ranging from American
imperialism, anti feminism, and the white man s burden . Morris argues the hero the white, American,
and masculine Jones is inseparable from these identities (pg. 77). While he makes interesting points
about the role of Marion and other characters in relation to Jones to support this argument, as he
acknowledges, Spielberg has contended, it is only a movie . Morris rejects this claim by insisting, an
analogous process... occurs during viewing, the result of alignment with inscribed spectators and with
the filmmakers through recognized intertextuality (pg. 80). He dismisses Spielberg s counterargument
as a simple cliché and claims that viewers will be hit with subtle ideological biases when they are
most vulnerable. He makes valid points about the American idealism that Indiana Jones represents and
the stereotypical foreign nations which hosts his exotic escapades, but at the same time he neglects
many scenes across the films that show a deeper side of the action hero. Both Raiders of the Lost Arc
and Temple of Doom contain examples that contradict the narrative and demonstrates a more complex
film.
Indiana Jones is primarily based of the serials of the 1930 s which were overrun by stereotypes of
women and foreigners. They depicted an almost senseless violence where the white male hero

Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the accurate
depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book. For example,
John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar elements, yet the
movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the characters are accurate,
certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the correspondence of the 1992 Of
Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact representations of one another. While movie
adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the novel s characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is
one of the exceptions. John Malkovich does a magnificent job of portraying Lennie s childlike
mannerisms; coupled with his physical appearance, Malkovich appears to be the exact embodiment of
Lennie. One major element of Lennie s character is his mental handicap, which is shown through ...

Slight injury: Is an injury of a minor character such as sprain (tug) (, bruise (discoloration), a cut or

II. Background
More than 1.2 million people are killed in road accidents, worldwide, and every year. Out of these 1.2
million, 90% occurred in low and middle income countries (Peden et al., 2004). Africa has the highest
fatality rate in relation to her population (28.3 per 100,000 populations. This Africa s rate is
substantially higher than motorized countries in the world, such as those in North America (12.1 to
16.2 per 100,000 populations) (Peden et al., 2004). For its 4 per cent of the world s motor vehicles, the
African road fatality share exceeds 10% of the total fatalities (GRSP, 2009; Jacobs, 2000). The road
traffic safety is becoming one of the tenth killers in developing countries, unlike the developed world,
where the proportion of vehicle population is almost 90% of the world.
In addition to death and injury, road accidents in low income and middle income countries have a
pronounced economic effect, with several countries spending between $65billion and $100billion
annually. These costs include loss of income and the burden placed on families to care for their injured
relative. A large factor in the high number of road accidents in these less developed countries is the
poor quality of the roads themselves, with cyclists,

Gender Role Portrayal In Disney Princess Films
Title
Beyond the Prince: A Study of Gender Role Portrayal in Disney Princess Films
Introduction
This study will examine princess films and decide whether color of the princesses has an effect on the
gender role portrayal of each character. By using a content analysis, this research will identify the
difference in each princess with respect to their color.
It is important to identify the role the Disney Corporation plays in today s culture. The company has
numerous princesses films with identical merchandise. Parents buy the items for their children and
through movie and merchandise; children are being informed such as how a lady ought to act, think or
dress. Gender role in Disney princess films remains important because of the messages it shows to
children. We need to identify whether gender roles presented in the movies modulate the intellect of a
woman in a modern world or whether Disney princesses are restricted to the female gender roles such
as nurturing and submissiveness. In addition, we need to study whether the messages are diverse for
varied princesses.

how the social world is constructed. This theory lays a groundwork for understanding specific social

Analysis of Quantitative Study
Analysis of quantitative Study
Quantitative research entails quite a wide range of processes like the formulation of the research
equation, through the data collection up to the interpretation and analysis of the data collected. The
entire process has several stages that need keen attention and research discipline which is dictated by
the research ethics.
Within the scope of this paper, several factors that guide research process will be discussed and direct
reference made to the QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH REPORT: Measuring awareness and attitudes
among young Australians towards STIs, including HIV/AIDS which largely observed the various
tenets of research as will be discussed below.
The ethics in a research majorly concern the protection of the human participants in the process of
data collection. There are several measures that should be taken to ensure that the participants are
protected physically, emotionally and intellectually as well as personally if they choose to give
personal and sensitive information that should not be divulged by the researcher. The following are
therefore the varied ways of protecting the human participants during the research as discussed by
David B., (2011):
The researcher should strive to avoid putting pressure on the respondents that may lead to anxiety as
that will lead to either unpremeditated answers or involuntary participation. It is however prudent to
get the consent of the participant if the researcher foresees his questions

AFRICAIN AMERICAINS IN WORLD WAR I
Before WORLD WAR I, military service represented a source of black pride. Black educators,
clergymen, and the press frequently referred to Negro heroes of America s past wars. After the Civil
War, the U.S, Army maintained four regular Negro regiments the 9th and 10th Calvary and the 24th
and 25th Infantry. These units included veterans of the civil war and the frontier Indian fighting
regiments. Retired sergeants often became respected, conservative leaders in their communities. This
history set a foundation for black support and involvement in America s future wars.

The Middle East And European Colonialism
In the Middle East, European colonialism obliterated Arab sovereignty through its political and
economic takeover. After gaining independence, the epicenter of perceived encroachment of Arab
autonomy by the West was found in the Jewish state of Israel. Furthermore, the United States military
support of Israel was also seen as an extension of colonialism. The colonial legacy of the British and
the French occupations in the Middle East led to the belief that Israel was another imperial force that
would infringe upon the rights of the Arab world. To fuel its strong hatred of colonialism and Israel,
the Arab states had the ability to harness their resources to pressure the international community to be
less pro Israel. The Middle East contains some of the world s largest oil reserves, and this oil gives
them a lot of economic clout because the use of oil for energy purposes is essential for nearly every
nation s survival. Most of the world has some degree of dependence on Arab oil, and the Arab states
can use this power as political leverage. In an effort to utilize this oil power against Israel and its
supporters, the Arab nations enacted oil production cutbacks and an oil embargo in 1973. To have an
effective embargo, the participation of all Arab nations was necessary. Yet, the divisions and conflict
within the Arab world prevented meaningful Arab unity, so they did not meet the political objectives
of destroying Israel and its imperialism . The 1973 Oil Embargo was

Comparing the two poems Porphyria’s Lover and My Last...
By comparing the two poems Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess, explore how Browning deals
worth the theme of jealousy.
Jealousy is a theme that occurs quite regularly in Browning s poems.
This was particularly noticed in both of the poems Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess where in
both cases, the male protagonists were jealous of the extra attention that their lovers received from
other admirers. When studying both poems, the reader can create in their mind a vivid picture of both
the female characters. However, because the male protagonists gave their view on their lovers, the
reader is only given details about the male protagonists feelings, not about his features or qualities.
Because of this, it needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poet makes the murder of Porphyria sound very peaceful and calm. It is clear to the reader that the
male protagonist cannot bear the thought of not having Porphyria with him and wants to stay with
Porphyria in this way forever. Because of the way Browning portrays
Porphyria s lover s feelings, the reader can almost sympathise with the way that the male protagonist
is feeling even in the event of
Porphyria s murder, all her hair in one long string I wound, three times her little throat around and
strangled her . With Browning creating such a big build up to Porphyria s murder and explaining it in
detail, the reader recognises that this dramatic event does mean a lot to the male protagonist and
Browning makes sure that this is the key event in the poem, and that it does not go unnoticed.
In My Last Duchess the relationship between the Duke and the Duchess seems a lot less passionate
and the reader could get the impression that the two characters falsely pretend to love each other when
in fact, the truth is the opposite. This impression could be made by the reader because the Duke
describes the Duchess as a pleasant person to look at but he feels as if the Duchess takes him for
granted and she is not grateful for the luxuries she receives as a result of her husband s popularity.

inmate neglect since 2010 has increased almost 5% every year (Allison, 2012). The criminal justice

treatment for inmates with special needs must be taken seriously and treatment must be offered no

Substance Abusing Inmates Inmates who suffer from substance abuse need just as much attention as
inmates who suffer from a mental illness. There are different counseling and treatment options for
inmates who are suffering from withdrawals and sobriety, but one organization is making a positive
impact on prisoners during incarceration. The Residential Drug and Alcohol Program (RDAP) focuses
on long term inmates in federal prisons. RDAP provides services that typically cost $50,000 in society

diagnosed to have both an intrauterine and a non viable extrauterine pregnancy. The management for
this kind of pregnancy can be medical, surgical or expectant. The patient in this case was managed

With the growing competition in the market, the profitability of the plant had declined which greatly
concerned the top management. After reviewing the situation, it was found that the human element

Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket
The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is an example of
postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a subversive function, as Moonrise
Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the
beginning of the film and it immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children play.
The congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The incongruity
comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle Rocket (1996)) is a reckless
individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for example, out of the window of a moving car.
These children (above) are responsible because they are capable of making the rockets, and they are
making them in a safe environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully directs his
cigarette towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of postmodern irony
suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is designed to consciously know
that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film, the director is able to reply with the new sincerity
about the condition of his characters and it heightens the fact that the audience is watching a film. The
subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is broken, as the filmic devices are made
evident.
A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In

Tilak wrote a scathing article in his newspaper and quoted Gita no blame could be attached to anyone
who killed an oppressor without any thought of reward . Following this, on 22 June, Rand and another
British officer Lt. Ayerst were shot and killed by the Chapekar brothers and their other associates.
Tilak was charged with incitement to murder and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. When he
emerged from prison, he was revered as a martyr and a national hero and adopted a new slogan,
Swaraj (Self Rule) is my birth right and I shall have it with which he roused a sleeping nation to

Goblin Market Sisterhood
Goblin Market and Sisterhood At the surface level, Goblin Market appears to be just a children s poem
about being a hero and the importance of sisters. Delve into a deeper level and you find, as Lona Mosk
Packer puts [an] emotional experience universally valid, (375). Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin
Market has three main themes that critics argue: the importance of sisterhood, the sexual implications
and the dangers of erotic love and a Christ like sacrifice. These themes appear through the language
used, the allusions and comparisons made throughout.
In this poem, there are a lot of implications of Christ and how Lizzie is the embodiment of Christ,
even though she is a woman. In the poem, Lizzie is seen as the redeemer of Laura; ... Show more

Rossetti spent much of her time helping the sisterhood when she volunteered St. Mary Magdalene
Penitentiary in Highgate to help these fallen women and some argue this poem could be about her
experiences with these women. In this poem, Rossetti maybe eluding to these women who, Helsinger
says are Seduced and abandoned women contemplate their married rivals as successful competitors in
a market they have belatedly learned to recognize, (912). Lizzie can be not a Christ like figure, but a
sister, figuratively and literally, who is empowered by her sister s need to be saved. We see her ..for
the first time in her life/Began to listen and look, (327 28); she is inspired and determined. Even when
the goblins have tormented and abused her, she is elated her penny bouncing was music to her ear. As
Mermin argues As her laughter indicates, her story has to do not with temptation resisted neither the
goblins nor their fruit attract her, and what she is resisting is attempted rape but with danger braved
and overcome, an heroic deed accomplished, (9). She is driven by her success and basically runs to
finish what she has started. When she returns home, we are introduced to what some describe as an
erotic scene between the two sisters. Lizzie enters and says, Eat me, drink me, love me, (471), and
Laura responds by repeatedly kissing her

Causes Of The Strike Of 1877
The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 manifested into the first of a series of labor strikes in the United
States and the first general strike of the nation. Working on the railroads, labor workers already had
poor working conditions and low wages. However, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B O) had made
its second wage cut in the past eight months; both cuts by ten percent. In response to this, labor
workers refused to allow any freight trains to roll in and out of the station until the restoration of their
original wages. The railroad strikers included individuals from railroad workers to other labor
sympathizers alike. The Great Strike of 1877 succeeded for the labor economy because of the large
number of labor supporters, the overpowering of the militia, and the power of initiative from the
people. Several citizens supported the laborers because of the dangers their jobs came with and their
impact on the overall economy of the United States. The strikers refused to restart the trains, so the B
O company employed new men to restart the trains, however, the strikers immediately interfered.
When the police went to protect the new men, the strikers were, reinforced by a large body of citizens,
swelling the crowd till it reached the proportions of a large mob ( Serious Strike ). The citizens were
more willing to aid the strikers than the local police and militia. The locals agreed with the strikers
because they were willing to go against their own militia. According

Importance And Importance Of Assembly Line
Importance of the Moving Assembly Line and the Model T Ford Before the world entered into the
Industrial Revolution, all goods were made by hand and took weeks to months to produce. After the
Industrial Revolution had begun, the first concept of the assembly line was created. The assembly line
was comprised of each individual worker doing a certain job of producing a single part of the final
product. Prior to Henry Ford, assembly lines involved horses carrying parts from one worker to the
next to create the end product. The implementation of Ford s moving assembly line established a
world where mass production found widespread popularity for being the dawn of the automotive
industry due to its many benefits. Prior to Ford s moving assembly line, the Model T was a luxury
only accessible to the wealthy, yet it later became a car for all. The Model T was a car that followed
the production of the Model N both of which were meant to be cheap in comparison to earlier
automobiles. From its inception, the Model T has been meant to be the first car readily available to the
masses. Before the moving assembly line was implemented, the Model T was already a sturdy and
relatively inexpensive automobile yet, not inexpensive enough for Ford who was determined to build

An example of mass production meeting those needs is the modern cell phone of which Samsung has
been able to sell and produce about 300 million phones per year (Anon). Without the use of the
assembly line, mass production would not be a thing. The definition of mass production is producing
something in large quantities, therefore a product can not be produced in large amounts without an
assembly line automating the task at hand. The task of mass production can only ever be achieved
through efficient methods and a working team of machines or people specializing at each specific

Heinz Ketchup
A Heinz Ketchup advertisement shows sliced tomatoes stacked haphazardly to form the general shape
of a bottle of ketchup. Towards the bottom of the frame, there is a crisp text that reads, No one grows
ketchup like Heinz. Through the analyzation of this advertisement, it becomes apparent that it is
effective and interesting in many different aspects, including form, content and style.
The form of this advertisement reflects the artist s intentions of making the product, Heinz ketchup,
seem healthier. For example, the lines throughout are very clean and crisp, which gives an air of
freshness about the piece. Further, the implied shape of the ketchup bottle through stacked tomato
slices is an innovative way for the artist to show that Heinz ketchup is made of just that, fresh
tomatoes. Also, both the foreground and background use a very strong color palette of red and white
with slight green accents to assist with the fresh feeling of the piece. With the way the space on the
page is handled, there is a very obvious focal point on the center of the page, focused on the implied
ketchup bottle. Using this simplistic composition shows the intention of the artist to leave this
advertisement feeling fresh and simple. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The implied bottle of ketchup in the advertisement showcases the content simply and
straightforwardly. Additionally, by using the word grow in accompaniment with the image of fresh
tomatoes reinforces the idea that Heinz ketchup is fresh and healthy. Through the iconography of the
ketchup bottle, the advertisement shows the viewer that Heinz is a fresh, clean, and healthy

Comparing Two Views On Creation And God
A.) Two world views on creation were discussed by Lennox between the Israelites and the neighbors
of the Israelites. The first being, the Israelites believed that God created the world out of nothing yet
the neighbors of the Israelites believed that their gods created the world out of materials that were
already present. Israel believed God made humanity with purpose, great design, and good, whereas
Israel s neighbors thought that the gods created humanity as an afterthought, with little purpose, and
humans were made from the bad blood of an evil god, so they were not good. Lastly, Israelites
believed that God created the world to sustain on it s own, to continue to grow from itself and thrive,
yet their neighbors believed that after all of

Negative Impact On Graphic Design
In this day and age anything is possible, whereas just a few years ago all we had for creating graphics
were a pencil and paper. The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we
design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different
directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a
negative one as well. The fact that virtually anyone can use things like graphics tablets, graphics
software and online tutorials causes people to label themselves as graphics designers , and they re not
wrong. In the Digital Age anyone can call themselves that when buying Adobe and designing
something but in the real world they re actually not doing anything extra ordinary because anyone
with at least some creative skills can design, and the keep evolving technology makes it even easier to
DIY Do it yourself. It s becoming easier for amateurs to learn the skills that they need for basic design
. It has a bad impact on the creative industries because instead of asking a professional, you can ask a
friend or a person you know to design something for you, all for a really low price compared with
professional graphic designers. In the olden days it was a much bigger thing to be called a graphics
designer because in their age things like computers and especially computer programs weren t widely
available yet. Designers like Paula Scher, ... , ... , started their careers with handmade

Paving the Way: How Financial Aid Awareness Affects College Access and Success
Literature Review
October 2008 In a time of ever rising college costs, financial aid is critical to increase college access
and success. Federal, state, and institutional aid programs help to ensure that students can afford
higher education regardless of economic background. Financial aid is most effective when students
and families learn about it early enough to make the right choices and plans about high school
coursework, family savings, work and earnings, and college options. This literature review explores
the questions of how and when students and families learn about college costs and financial aid, and
how the timing and substance of that information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ii) Three out of four African American parents do not identify scholarships as a source of aid,
compared to half of White parents. Similarly, 83 percent of Latino parents do not mention grants as a
source of aid versus 58 percent of White parents (Sallie Mae Fund and Harris Interactive 2003). Most
Latino non college going youths can not name one source of financial aid (Zarate and Pachon 2006).
iii) Two thirds of African American parents and 62 percent of Latino parents say they need more
information about how to pay for college, compared to only 44 percent of White parents (Sallie Mae
Fund and Harris Interactive 2003). d) Some students have inaccurate perceptions of their eligibility for
financial aid. i) Many current and former community college students, especially those from two
parent households, assume that their household income is too high to make them eligible for federal
financial aid (Matus Grossman and Gooden 2002). ii) In California, far fewer Latino students than are
eligible actually apply for Cal Grants because they erroneously believe that high grades are required
(Zarate and Pachon 2006). iii) Many low income students who do not apply for financial aid believe
that they do not need financial aid. Twenty nine percent of low income dependent students and 39
percent of low income independent students say they did not file a Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA)

Janet Reimer s Procedure
August 22, 1965, Janet Reimer gave birth to two flawless twin baby boys, Bruce and Brian. The two
twins were everything Janet had been wanting since she was a little girl. Her life couldn t have been
better.
A month later Janet and Ron took Bruce and Brian in for a regular circumcision. There was a terrible
mistake in Bruce s procedure. Instead of burning off the skin, Bruce s entire penis was burned. Bruce s
parents were devastated with the outcome of the procedure and they had no idea what to do.
One day Janet and Ron s saving grace came along, Dr. Money. Dr. Money had a theory that children
are gender neutral and can be both a boy or girl depending how they are raised. Janet and Ron got
ahold of Dr. Money and asked to apart of his experiment, they were going to raise Bruce as a female.
Bruce was now Brenda, and being raised as if she was never a male. Brenda went through childhood

Money, and started to contemplate suicide. Janet and Ron decided to come clean with Brenda and
reveal her actual gender identity.
Brenda elected to change her name to David and reclassified herself as a male. David got married to a
woman and even had a family. David suffered from depression as an adult due to his traumatic
childhood, and commited suicide on May 5, 2004. David s death can be directly linked back to the
unethical work of Dr. Money
David s circumcision incident was a unique situation. Janet and Ron, in my opinion, overreacted in the
face of this incident. They went to absolute drastic measures to make sure David had a normal life,
when in fact it did more harm than good. I feel if it were I that had to make the decision for my child, I
would had not went to such a extreme, and life altering level. In my mind the costs outweigh the

Letter From Gloria Naylor s Mama Day
Gynocentric Granules in Gloria Naylor s Mama Day Anslin Jegu J., Asst. Prof. of English, Panimalar
Engineering College, Chennai. E mail: anslinjegu@gmail.com
Abstract This paper strews a panoramic view of Gynocentrism as a literary critical theory and its
ramification in the form of the human relationship. Gynocentrism is a radical feminist dictum that
scrutinizes the identity crises, culture, psychic, and the social consciousness female with the women
centered approach. Gynocentrism is perhaps best conjectured as a traditional phase in ... Show more

Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and misogynist
formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a source of values
by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional
phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of
women s voice.
On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles
for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as
primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and
investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings
differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A
Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for
the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female
experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference,
the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of
penmanship by women. The writers like, Adrienne Rich and Susan Griffin have also manifested the
gynocritical writing.

  • 2. Ethanol And Fuel Properties Of Ethanol Ethanol contains a two carbon alcohol and six hydrogen (C2H6O) and has low cetane number (8), low heating value (26.8) and low viscosity (1.08) at 40ï‚°. Table 5. shows the properties of diesel, gasoline, ethanol, acetone and butanol. Furthermore, the stability of any blend is an im portant factor in fuel properties. The most significant issue of using ethanol with diesel is solu bility and miscibility. Therefore, the use of biodiesel is an important method to stabilise ethanol in diesel [119, 124]. In order to maintain the stability of ethanol diesel blends, two types of additive methodologies are normally employed: the addition of surfactants (emulsifiers) that yield stable emulsions or micro emulsion, and the addition of co solvent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The effects of adding of vegetable methyl ester to diesel ethanol blends were studied by Chen et al. [152], who observed that the addition of ester to diesel ethanol blends prevents phase separation up to 30% by volume to maintain the homogeneity of blends Other significant research has undertaken by Barabás et al. [119] who investigated to 27 mix ture samples of ethanol, biodiesel and diesel in different ratios. The experiments showed that only seven samples were suitable in terms of miscibility and stability and two samples (B10D85E5 and B25D70E5) could successfully replace diesel. 4.2.2 Ethanol blend Tested in CI Engines Blending ethanol with diesel fuel has several issues in terms of performance and emission lev els. A number of studies have examined the effect of ethanol on thermal efficiency, brake power, fuel consumption and emission levels. Some research [114, 120, 125, 126] obtained dif ferent results in terms of performance and emission levels. Most of this research agreed that ethanol causes an increase in fuel consumption (BSFC) and a decrease in the efficiency of the diesel engines. Chen et al. [120] showed that ethanol could decrease some types of emissions such as smoke and PM because high oxygen content helps to complete the combustion. When vegetable methyl ester was added to ... • 3. The Babylonian Exile And The Color Purple Essay Conceptions of God has the ability to be altered in order to mediate and bring together social and political forces, as seen in Alice Walker s The Color Purple and the Babylonian Exile. Both examples display the challenges some experience with their perception of God and how their outlook impacts outlying forces. These forces, specifically social and political, are prevalent in the individual s daily lives, causing them to confront the conflicts that exist between these forces and how their viewpoint of God can interfere and aid in mediating the forces. The struggle to find a definite view of God is highlighted in an excerpt from Alice Walker s The Color Purple, where the two main characters, Celie and Shug, discuss what they believe to be their own conception of God. Celie described her perception of God as being big and old and tall and gray bearded and white as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Babylonian Exile was a time in which Jewish people were exiled from Jerusalem and forced to live in Babylon as captives. During the Babylonian Exile, many Jewish people had only faith to hold onto as a way of staying strong and not succumbing to their situation and perceived God, or Jeremiah, as their light and support system. In a letter to the Babylon Exiles from the prophet Jeremiah, he gives words of wisdom to the exiles by encouraging them to maintain their faith, reproduce and emphasized the need to hear the word of the LORD as those who have not will receive severe punishment. In their case, the Israelites perception of God grew stronger to aid them in their situation, as well as help mediate the social and political forces that were apparent during this time. They were able to create a sense of unity with each other in a time of political uprising and learn to adapt to their situation through the help of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay on The History and Context of Club Culture The History and Context of Club Culture History is hard to know because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of history it seems entirely reasonable that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time, and which never explain, in retrospect, what really happened (Hunter.S.Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas ) The late 1980 s saw the emergence of a hugely significant social phenomenon. Collin (1997) suggests that when it was initially covered by The Sun in August 1988, reports were largely positive, endorsed as the latest dance craze, with the paper even marketing its own smiley face logo T shirts. Hostility quickly ensued however after two deaths from ecstasy in June and October followed by a police drugs raid on a boat party in November. By September 1988 the ritualised sequence of moral panic exaggerated press reports, misleading headlines, self appointed moral spokesmen demanding action and weekend on weekend of police raids was unfolding (Collin 1997:90). A Daily Mail editorial (26th June 1989) claimed that Acid House is a façade for dealing in drugs of the worst sort on a massive scale and a cynical attempt to trap young people into drug dependency under the guise of friendly pop music events . (cited in Collin 1997:97). However, as with all moral panics the media s and therefore the public s fears had a relatively short lifespan (Cohen 1972; McRobbie and Thornton 1995). • 5. The Woman In Black Play Review On Thursday 29th September 2016, we attended a performance of The Woman in Black at the Fortune Theatre in the West End, London. It was set in a traditional proscenium arch theatre which is situated on an enclosed street which applies to the horror genre and the idea of isolation. The size of the theatre was alarmingly small with compact seating, creating a sense of claustrophobia, suffocation and lack of escape from The Woman in Black . The stage seemed diminutive with the curtain, and the minimalistic set with old fashioned props instantly set a Victorian impression. The minimalism conveyed how the actors could present a play without ostentatious props and keep the focus on themselves. The monochromatic colours of the programme enhance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the rehearsal scene, there were references to the sound technician. This was a Brechtian technique of the audience being aware of a play within a play. Most sound effects were specific and recorded, like the city hustle and bustle, the screams and the voices when reading things aloud. However, the one sound that stood out to me was the music box. Being the only live sound we hear, relates to the naturalism of the nursery and how Jennet Humfrye s love for her son is infinite. Music boxes were commonly a gift for a child, or a token of love for a partner in the Victorian times. The idea of love is additionally demonstrated when Kipps is reading a letter alongside Stella. This shows his remembrance of her voice and how much he misses her. The ticking of the clock at the beginning of the play reminds the audience of a countdown, a signal that something is about to happen. This relates to the rhythmic rocking of the chair, similar to a heartbeat, echoing around the house, resembling Nathaniel s pulse. This again adds humanity to the nursery. When Kipps stops the chair from rocking, everything is silent which signifies the death of Nathaniel and how in reality he is gone. Contrasting to the naturalism, there is repetition of the Woman s screams. These created an abstract soundscape that made the audience feel frightened, mimicking the discomforting feeling of the horror genre. The Pony and Trap sounds came ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To support my opinion, this essay will include three topics that each show both pros and cons. Those topics include the Columbian Exchange, Smallpox, and Columbus s voyages. First, the Columbian Exchange took place between the old and new world. The old world gave the new world things such as horses, pigs, and cows. They also gave the new world wheat, sugar, rice, and coffee. Also, the Columbian Exchange resulted in cultural division. Lastly, the Columbian Exchange caused many Native Americans to die from European diseases. Another reason that I think that the pros don t outweigh the cons is that Smallpox had killed many people. Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies Essay Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies When many people hear the word therapy, they think of something that has caused a problem and has to be fixed. In most cases, that is true. Most people think the problem may be an injury that has to be rehabilitated or an extreme mental problem where the person needs serious help. However, therapy does not always deal with injured or mentally troubled people. Occupational therapists set a goal for their patients which enables them to have more independent, productive, and satisfying lives by teaching them how to perform daily functions without the aid of others. Some of these functions may include eating, getting dressed, or using the bathroom. Exercises that improve balance, coordination, trunk control, dexterity, and basic muscle movement are used towards a person s road to an easier lifestyle. Occupational therapists work mainly with people who have disabilities. These may include people with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or people who have had a stroke ( Occupational ). • 13. The Dubliners By James Joyce James Joyce s 1914 collection of 15 short stories The Dubliners has the continuous theme of money which further dwells into the idea of class systems, how colonies became a dichotomy, and how in the end, the colonists were nearly the same. Since Joyce writes these stories in the early 20th Century, there has been a large history behind colonization and the life that comes with it. In using everyday examples or little segments of the average day, Joyce expresses the idea and components of the class system in Dublin which shows the distinction and yet the similarities between the impoverished and the well to do. James Augustine Aloysius Joyce was born into a middle class family in 41 Brighton Square, Rathgar, Dublin, which is a fairly nice area of Dublin. The family fell apart and they had to move to northern Dublin, a very undesirable and unpleasant area to live in. In spite of having a out of order household with an alcoholic father and unreliable income and finances, Joyce went to a prestigious Jesuit high school and excelled there. Joyce then went on to college and transcended. With all these past experiences, Joyce had learned the ways of living without the concern of money and had also learned the ways of living with the concern of money and making ends meet. This situation was not rare, for in fact, it happened to many denizens of Dublin. With this outlook and standpoint on life, Joyce was compelled to write the tales of his miserable contemporaries. • 15. The Importance Of Employee Uniforms Introduction Have you ever wondered why companies make their employees wear a specific uniform or wear a specific style of pant and shirt? Well, there are many reasons why; one, the company may use their uniform as part of their organization s colors. This allows the employee to feel they are part of the organization and it allows the consumer to identify a company purely from the colors on a uniform. Just within the past year, a sitcom television show called Superstore. Those who watch this sitcom, quickly realizes how those who wrote the scripts and chose the actors clothing did so to poke fun directly towards Wal Mart. Additionally, a person s physical appearance, such as piercings, tattoos, and hair styles are all ways others associate them as a good or bad person, and clothing is no exception. Whether it is in a business setting, a restaurant, or even a doctor s office, a person s perception towards another is determined by initial contact. Despite a single office or profession; employers need to consider a dress code to ensure the safety of all employees. Moreover, some employees do not direct a dress code as a way to save operational costs, while some provide the employees with a shirt and the employee must wear a specific type and color of pant. Sure, the dress code for employees can be unattractive, however, the employer is not paying the person to look good or seek a partner. • 16. The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as being the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads one to the conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be made that Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe through his poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this barren place there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint moonlight, the grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under the moonlight reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or created. Eliot scatters The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile periods of society in previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order to illustrate nature and life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s poem continually changes due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is strange to think of a description of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought in a desolate dessert, yet also talks about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself in his discussion. Water is a symbol of fertility, how can this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. The Pros And Cons Of Biblical Predestination Throughout time biblical scriptures have been interpreted differently by different religions, scholar s, and languages. Many theologians have provided different interpretations based off their mentors and time they lived. Using works from the Sacra Pagina Series, Norton Bible scriptures, and excerpts from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and teaching of John Calvin this essay will show the vast differences of interpretations in just one biblical scripture let alone throughout the entire bible and its many interpretations. Luke 13:23 24 reads Someone asked him, Lord, are only a few people going to be saved? He said to them, strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. (The King James Bible). Very early in our Christian experiences we are taught that God is a saving and merciful God, however, some theologians such as John Calvin believed that God predestined all mankind. They are either predestined to heaven or hell. One of theologians John Calvin benchmark verses was Luke 13:23. He used this verse to show that our God is not a saving God, but indeed a selective God. According to John Calvin predestination theory; all men are predestined for either heaven or hell regardless of their life choices and acceptance of Jesus Christ as their savior. To examine the Bible verse Luke 13:23, you see that St. Luke recounts that everyone will be brought to lift through Jesus. However, how does one know that only a few of mankind ... He tells a story of a beaten and battered area of South Bronx. In this small area there was no law or order since many jobs were lost and most of what was left there were people of color from different parts of the world, including Puerto Rico and Jamaica. Due to the lack of protection Chang tells us that gangs were created as a means of protection from the junkies and other scavengers. Their way of dealing with things was very violent in nature, later on when more and more gangs started popping up they became territorial. They attacked other members who wore their colors on another gang s turf. South Bronx became a very dangerous place full of nothing but youthful gangs and gang related violence. Socially it was the lack of jobs and other necessities that led to the creation of hip hop. There became a treaty of sorts, although its terms weren t really discussed, but the gangs decided instead of focusing on violence and other things maybe they could focus on music to show the world their struggle. So all the different gangs started producing different strands of what we call hip hop. Each had different roots in it that all became mixed into a sort of melting pot. The four elements are DJing, B boying, MCing, and graffiti. The appeal of Hip Hop was how it brought to light the struggle that was going on in South Bronx and all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Observational Learning Experience If I were to have a five year old nephew and I were to have to teach him something I would mostly likely use a combination of reinforcers and observational learning. Both positive and negative punishment would be implemented in the teaching process, as well as the observational part so that they all compliment each other. Most likely I would begin to teach him to play baseball and basketball since most, including myself, start around that age. Although, I would not be as hard on him as my brothers were on me when it came to sports. I would begin to teach him baseball since it is my favorite. Again I was always taught in more of a punishment type approach and again it worked for me, but I believe it depends on the kid that is being taught and how they handle it. The same goes for basketball as it did baseball, I would teach him the concept and objective of the game. When a kid this age is being taught it is all really observational, because they look to you for guidance and on how to do everything properly. They literally try to copy everything you do. When it comes to basketball once he has the concept down and I have taught him how to do everything correctly, I would take more of punishment route. For example, if he keeps missing lay ups, I would make him make fifty before he could move on to anything else. If he has trouble dribbling, then I would make him do dribbling drills until he has started to improve. The same goes for baseball too. Punishment in a form that improves his game by making him to the same thing over and over again until he gets better. My punishment in both sports was that I would always have to run if I messed up repeatedly. Esther Edwards writes The Awful Sweetness of Walking with G d , a diary entry describing her daily life being part of a very religious family. During the revolutionary era, Benjamin Franklin published an article that offers advice on improving character. Anne Bradstreet includes a theme of responsibility to G d in her poem, Upon the Burning of our House . Bradstreet feels that G d is in control, and she therefore feels deeply indebted to G d, providing her with the ability and clarity needed to cope with any troubles. Anne stares terrified as her house burns down to the ground, and at first, she is stunned and says: That fearful sound of fire and fire, let no man know is my desire . His conclusions draw on the subconscious biases of the film with topics ranging from American imperialism, anti feminism, and the white man s burden . Morris argues the hero the white, American, and masculine Jones is inseparable from these identities (pg. 77). While he makes interesting points about the role of Marion and other characters in relation to Jones to support this argument, as he acknowledges, Spielberg has contended, it is only a movie . Morris rejects this claim by insisting, an analogous process... occurs during viewing, the result of alignment with inscribed spectators and with the filmmakers through recognized intertextuality (pg. 80). He dismisses Spielberg s counterargument as a simple cliché and claims that viewers will be hit with subtle ideological biases when they are most vulnerable. He makes valid points about the American idealism that Indiana Jones represents and the stereotypical foreign nations which hosts his exotic escapades, but at the same time he neglects many scenes across the films that show a deeper side of the action hero. Both Raiders of the Lost Arc and Temple of Doom contain examples that contradict the narrative and demonstrates a more complex film. Of Mice And Men Movie And Book Comparison Essay Multitudes of well known films are derived from novels; however, despite the majority of the accurate depictions, these adaptations contain several varying scenes as compared to the book. For example, John Steinbeck s novella Of Mice and Men and the 1992 movie version share similar elements, yet the movie strays from the original source material. While the portrayal of the characters are accurate, certain important segments are added or deleted. Therefore, despite the correspondence of the 1992 Of Mice and Men movie to the novella, they re not exact representations of one another. While movie adaptations often have inaccurate portrayals of the novel s characters, the Of Mice and Men movie is one of the exceptions. After gaining independence, the epicenter of perceived encroachment of Arab autonomy by the West was found in the Jewish state of Israel. Furthermore, the United States military support of Israel was also seen as an extension of colonialism. The colonial legacy of the British and the French occupations in the Middle East led to the belief that Israel was another imperial force that would infringe upon the rights of the Arab world. To fuel its strong hatred of colonialism and Israel, the Arab states had the ability to harness their resources to pressure the international community to be less pro Israel. The workers were working in 30 day night shifts in a month. Being a textile unit, it was a process industry wherein hurdle at one point of the process would stop the whole production. Moreover, if there were delay in the takeover of the shift, the output of the entire day would be affected. In the matters of indiscipline, the workers were charge sheeted and dismissed arbitrarily. In chronic cases, the worker had to wear a badge with a slogan I will not repeat the mistake again for the entire day on his uniform. • 41. Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is an example of postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a subversive function, as Moonrise Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the beginning of the film and it immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children play. The congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The incongruity comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle Rocket (1996)) is a reckless individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for example, out of the window of a moving car. These children (above) are responsible because they are capable of making the rockets, and they are making them in a safe environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully directs his cigarette towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of postmodern irony suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is designed to consciously know that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film, the director is able to reply with the new sincerity about the condition of his characters and it heightens the fact that the audience is watching a film. The subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is broken, as the filmic devices are made evident. A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In ... Eventually Tilak was jailed by the British for his seditious writings. This imprisonment did not dampen Tilak s enthusiasm and the fire of patriotism kindled by him began to burn more and more fiercely. By that time he was the unquestioned leader of the Indians the uncrowned king. Thus he was known as the Tilak Maharaj and his many admirers also named him Lokmanya, which means admired by the people. But it s important to note that Lokmanya Tilak was not just a revolutionary, he was a great scholar as well. Delve into a deeper level and you find, as Lona Mosk Packer puts [an] emotional experience universally valid, (375). Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market has three main themes that critics argue: the importance of sisterhood, the sexual implications and the dangers of erotic love and a Christ like sacrifice. These themes appear through the language used, the allusions and comparisons made throughout. In this poem, there are a lot of implications of Christ and how Lizzie is the embodiment of Christ, even though she is a woman. In the poem, Lizzie is seen as the redeemer of Laura; ... • 44. Causes Of The Strike Of 1877 The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 manifested into the first of a series of labor strikes in the United States and the first general strike of the nation. Working on the railroads, labor workers already had poor working conditions and low wages. However, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B O) had made its second wage cut in the past eight months; both cuts by ten percent. In response to this, labor workers refused to allow any freight trains to roll in and out of the station until the restoration of their original wages. The railroad strikers included individuals from railroad workers to other labor sympathizers alike. The Great Strike of 1877 succeeded for the labor economy because of the large number of labor supporters, the overpowering of the militia, and the power of initiative from the people. Several citizens supported the laborers because of the dangers their jobs came with and their impact on the overall economy of the United States. The strikers refused to restart the trains, so the B O company employed new men to restart the trains, however, the strikers immediately interfered. When the police went to protect the new men, the strikers were, reinforced by a large body of citizens, swelling the crowd till it reached the proportions of a large mob ( Serious Strike ). The citizens were more willing to aid the strikers than the local police and militia. The locals agreed with the strikers because they were willing to go against their own militia. According ... Importance And Importance Of Assembly Line Importance of the Moving Assembly Line and the Model T Ford Before the world entered into the Industrial Revolution, all goods were made by hand and took weeks to months to produce. After the Industrial Revolution had begun, the first concept of the assembly line was created. The assembly line was comprised of each individual worker doing a certain job of producing a single part of the final product. Prior to Henry Ford, assembly lines involved horses carrying parts from one worker to the next to create the end product. The implementation of Ford s moving assembly line established a world where mass production found widespread popularity for being the dawn of the automotive industry due to its many benefits. Prior to Ford s moving assembly line, the Model T was a luxury only accessible to the wealthy, yet it later became a car for all. The Model T was a car that followed the production of the Model N both of which were meant to be cheap in comparison to earlier automobiles. Towards the bottom of the frame, there is a crisp text that reads, No one grows ketchup like Heinz. Through the analyzation of this advertisement, it becomes apparent that it is effective and interesting in many different aspects, including form, content and style. The form of this advertisement reflects the artist s intentions of making the product, Heinz ketchup, seem healthier. For example, the lines throughout are very clean and crisp, which gives an air of freshness about the piece. Further, the implied shape of the ketchup bottle through stacked tomato slices is an innovative way for the artist to show that Heinz ketchup is made of just that, fresh tomatoes. Also, both the foreground and background use a very strong color palette of red and white with slight green accents to assist with the fresh feeling of the piece. The first being, the Israelites believed that God created the world out of nothing yet the neighbors of the Israelites believed that their gods created the world out of materials that were already present. Israel believed God made humanity with purpose, great design, and good, whereas Israel s neighbors thought that the gods created humanity as an afterthought, with little purpose, and humans were made from the bad blood of an evil god, so they were not good. • 48. Negative Impact On Graphic Design In this day and age anything is possible, whereas just a few years ago all we had for creating graphics were a pencil and paper. The fact that technology is evolving every second means that the way we design, create and even advertise it is changed. Designer can go a long way, in many different directions. Even though the innovations introduced have a major positive impact, they do have a negative one as well. The fact that virtually anyone can use things like graphics tablets, graphics software and online tutorials causes people to label themselves as graphics designers , and they re not wrong. In the Digital Age anyone can call themselves that when buying Adobe and designing something but in the real world they re actually not doing anything extra ordinary because anyone with at least some creative skills can design, and the keep evolving technology makes it even easier to DIY Do it yourself. It s becoming easier for amateurs to learn the skills that they need for basic design . It has a bad impact on the creative industries because instead of asking a professional, you can ask a friend or a person you know to design something for you, all for a really low price compared with professional graphic designers. Gynocentric feminism thus, prompts a vision of femininity and odds with androcentric and misogynist formulations that have traditionally been assigned to women. It extols feminity as a source of values by which, it castigates the androcentric society. Gynocentrism is perhaps best seen as a traditional phase in feminist theory, which capitulates its voice for addressing the wholesale marginalization of women s voice. On the contrary to gynocentrism, Elaine Showalter an American critic, feminist and writer quibbles for the realignment of the conceptual standpoints of literary studies by seeing writings of women as primary rather than marginal. She also flicks to identify the aberration in women s penning and investigates how psychodynamics of female creativity shapes the literary productions and readings differently from those of men. Having coined a new appellation, Gynocritics in her cameo, Towards A Feminist Poetics, she contends that the programme of gynocritics is to evolve a female frame work for the analysis of women s literature and to develop new methods based on the study of female experience rather than to adopt male s models and theories. In order to diagnose the female difference, the gynocritical approach is sought to study the history, styles, themes, genres and structure of penmanship by women. The writers like, Adrienne Rich and Susan Griffin have also manifested the gynocritical writing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
