Types Of Discrimination And Discrimination
TYPES OF DISCRIMINATION
❖Direct Discrimination: In this case the employee is treated less favorably by the employer simply
because of his or her HIV status. For example, rejecting a job application because of employee HIV
infection or excluding an HIV positive employee from the company pension scheme because of an
assumption that he or she would draw on it early. (6)
The law also protects people who are discriminated against because they are associated with a person
with HIV (for example, the partner of a person with HIV). Furthermore, it protects employees or
potential employees who are discriminated against because they are perceived to have HIV and/or
another disability, either correctly or incorrectly.(Discrimination against ... Show more content on

(6)
❖Discrimination arising from a disability: This deals with situations in which the employer treats the
employee less favourably for a reason related to their disability. For example, the employer chooses a
person for redundancy because persons living with HIV has had a lot of time off related to their
illnesses(that is poor attendance record arising in consequence of HIV infection). (6) ❖Harassment
Harassment occurs where, for a reason which relates to a person s HIV status or/and a disability,
another person engages in unwanted conduct which either violates the disabled person s dignity, or
creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for him or her. (6)
❖Victimisation Victimization is considered if employees are penalised because they have complained
about discrimination in some way, perhaps verbally, in a letter, in a written grievance, or in court case.
A person may be victimised for giving evidence that another person has been discriminated against.
However, in this instance, the employees will need to demonstrate that:
●They made an initial complaint (or gave evidence) of discrimination and specified that it was
disability discrimination, race discrimination, etc. Simply complaining of discrimination or unfair
treatment would not be enough(6).
●They were treated less favourably as a result of their disability. For example, they were disciplined,
dismissed, refused promotion, denied overtime,

Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security
Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions
combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of
Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is
how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How
do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect
those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would
want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national
defense.
Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the
population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally
been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state
National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many
necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus
Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy
enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also
amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by

Small Business Administration Research
According to Small Business Administration research, only half of new businesses survive for the first
five years and only a third of new businesses are able to survive for 10 years. The inverse is
compelling as we can conclude that if only 50% of new businesses survive for the first five years, then
the other 50% fail in the first five years. We can also conclude that about 65% of new businesses don t
make it to the ten year mark.
Forbes reports an even more grim statistic, based on Bloomberg research, that of every 10 businesses,
eight fail within the first 18 months. What are the reasons businesses fail to thrive, given a 50/50
chance of survival and assuming a product or service for which there s a demand? Let s discuss six
reasons businesses fail and some ways you can avoid business failure.
Six Reasons Businesses Fail
1. Leadership Failure. Your business can fail if you exhibit poor management skills, which can be
evident in many forms. You will struggle as a leader if you don t have enough experience making
management decisions, supervising a staff, or the vision to lead your organization. Perhaps your
leadership team is not in agreement on how the business should be run. You and your leaders may be
arguing with each other publicly or contradicting each other s instructions to the staff. When problems
requiring strong leadership occur, you may be reluctant to take charge and resolve the issues while
your business continues to slip toward failure.

Saint Louis University is located in Saint Louis, Missouri. There are 3 million people living in the
metropolitan area of Saint Louis. Some people may think that 3 million people is too massive for a
college town, nevertheless, that population may make it even better than a college town. There is a
considerable amount of attractions around the Saint Louis area that makes Saint Louis University a
pleasurable place to go to college. Conveniently near campus is Forest Park. Forest Park is larger than
the New York City s Central Park. Within Forest Park there are the Saint Louis Art Museum, Saint

Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
Film Analysis Paper: One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest
Summery I The Story takes place in a state mental hospital in Oregon, 1963. 38 year old Randel
Patrick Mc Murphy Mac played by Jack Nicholson is being transferred from a prison work farm to the
hospital for mental evaluation. Mac is trying to avoid the work required by his sentence of statutory
rape of a 15 year old girl by claiming (he is a marvel of modern science) insanity. The hospital is
overseen by Nurse Ratched, who according to Mac does not play fair . She has a dominating
personality with a passive aggressive way of handling the patients. Her humiliation of the patients
combined with her senseless control bring her and Mac to a test of wills that challenges each other
throughout the movie. Mac makes friends with the other patients and soon he is looked up to and seen
as the leader of the group and a father figure. His group is made up of some very strong well
developed characters like Cheswick, childlike tantrum thrower, Mr Harding (Hard on), an intellectual
man struggling with his own sexuality, Billy, a stuttering very insecure young man, Martini, always
smiling and very simple minded, and Chief, an enormous Indian who everyone is fooling everyone
into thinking he is deaf and dumb when in actuality he is normal. Throughout the film Mac and
Ratched bump heads while trying to achieve the goal of making everyone think he is insane. By trying
to prove this he refuses to sit there like a vegetable , so he

WORD COUNT:
INTRODUCTION:
Our sites (Figure 1.) were spread along the lowest reach of Merri Creek before it runs into the Yarra
River. As a direct result of this there is an extensive valley from the constant presence of fluvial
processes over geological time. The landform patterns at our sites were extensively governed by the
movement and availability of water, with escarpments, gullies, cliffs and spurs of varying steepness all
observed. Figure 1. Topographic map of the meandering form of Merri Creek (topographic map.com,

Wurundjeri People(39000BC 1835) were hunter/gatherers and actively managed the environment such
that they did not permanently deplete its resources. The creek and surrounding lands were important to
Aborigines for food, shelter and travel. Where Merri Creek and the Yarra River join at Dights Falls
(site 6) was once an important Aboriginal meeting place. (Jackson, 2018) The area was then used
pastorally and subsequently deforested to be used for agriculture, mostly as grazing land for livestock
(1835 1850).
Now the surrounding area consists mainly of residential development of houses and recreational
facilities (1850 present). (City of Melbourne, 2018)
This area along Merri Creek now has two main uses; recreation (Merri Creek bike and walking Trail,
Rotunda Wetland, Geofrey Knott reserve) (walking paths, viewing platforms and seating areas) and
transport (Merri Creek Trail, Heidelberg Rd/Eastern Freeway)
Extensive amounts of litter were observed both in (figure 8) and around the creek, this aspect of

The Evolution Of Information Management Systems
The evolution of technology and the importance of information management systems have led to the
evolution of new experts in the industry known as Data Scientists who work on data science. Despite
the hype and confusion surrounding data science, the need for people who can interpret data to help
organizations make informed business decisions is very real. Data scientists look at the data sets in
nature or complex systems and extract information from it. In today s age businesses have started to
gain tons of data and science already knew how to deal with such large volumes trough physics,
applied mathematics and computer science.
Traditionally any information management system has been defined as the collection and management
of information from one or more sources and information dissemination to relevant stakeholders.
However, the message that is missing in this definition is that the quality of information system
determines the outcome of the information even before data collection . A poor information system
would drive employees to take decisions and form opinions based on assumptions rather than
substance. There would be no synergy of thoughts and thus would lead to conflicting views of
managers and leaders. Hence, it is imperative for information management system to be in line with
the business strategy. And therefore Data scientists must be a part of senior management meetings and
business objectives must be clearly discussed and shared to enable him prepare

What It Means To Be A Political Savvy Leader
Introduction In today s ever evolving organizational settings organizations have grown in to
multifaceted labyrinth of concerns, hostilities, personal sandboxes, personalities, and sacred cows.
Techniques that were used by old titans of industry are beyond outdated and will fair very poorly in
the organizations of today. While many roads can lead to becoming a successful leader, being
politically savvy can help to smooth the path and even shorten the journey. With this paper I aim to
identify what it means to be a politically savvy leader and go into detail as to what traits one must
develop to be effective as a politically savvy leader.

Prehensile Tail Research Paper
Prehensile Tails
Creatures have a variety of traits that make them unique. This can include traits such as having scales
as opposed to fur or having claws or opposable thumbs. As traits are passed down from generation to
generation, individuals of the species that have traits that help them survive and thrive in their current
environment tend to reproduce more. This leads to a higher frequency of the population having this
desireable trait. When a creature has a trait that allows them to survive and thrive in their environment,
this trait is called an adaptation. (OpenStax, 2013)
One example of an adaptation that helps creatures thrive in their environment is the prehensile tail. A
prehensile tail is a tail that can be used to grasp objects in the environment. For ... Show more content

Through natural selection these prehensile tailed mammals were able to reproduce and the adaptation
was passed on to their offspring.
(Mirajkar, 1970)
Regarding adaptations, there are two main types; homologous adaptations and analogous adaptations.
In a homologous adaptation, creatures with the adaptation are all thought to come from a common
ancestor. In an analogous adaptation, the adaptation develops separately because of a common
necessity, but a common ancestor is not present. Prehensile tails would be considered analogous.
While many monkeys have a common ancestor, prehensile tails have also been seen in reptiles and
fish. The structure of each different type of tail is radically different. Some lizards have detachable
prehensile tails, while the prehensile tail of most monkeys is an extension of vertebrae from their
spinal cord. This suggests that they do not share a common ancestor. (Homologies and Analogies,
n.d.)
Another way to classify adaptations is into convergent and divergent evolutions.
In a divergent evolution, a common ancestor eventually gives way to several different adaptations.
Adaptations that come from a common ancestor are called

Elizabeth Ammons s Ethan Frome As A Fairy Tale
Ethan Frome as a Fairy Tale
Elizabeth Ammons writes in her essay Ethan Frome as a Fairy Tale, that Ethan Frome is designed to
be read like a fairy tale (Ammons 138). Although the novel itself is bleak and a little dark, we still
recognize the characters as ones from the fairy tale Snow White. In the novel Mattie Silver comes to
live with Ethan and Zeena. Mattie takes care of Zeena along with the household chores. When Mattie
and Ethan begin to fall for each other Zeena notices. The silent tension in the house grows greater and
greater every day Mattie is in the house. In a search for their fairytale ending the two try to take their
own lives, little did they know it would lead to nothing but misery. In her novel Ethan Frome, Edith

In the story Snow White , the huntsman is ordered to kill Snow White, but instead he tries to help her
escape from the queen s envy, the reason for this being Because she was so beautiful, the huntsman
took pity on her... (Grimm 1). Zeena, the evil witch in Ethan Frome, tries to get rid of Mattie because
she is jealous of her. Ethan tries to help Mattie, like the huntsman, by attempting to convince Zeena to
let her stay. However, Zeena refuses, using her health as an excuse. The Elizabeth Ammons essay
about Ethan Frome s fairy tale similarities states how Ethan takes pride in subduing Mattie when she
is frightened, almost like how the huntsman subdued Snow White s fear by letting her live. Ethan
begins to show his prince like properties when he falls in love with Mattie Silver, similar to the prince
in the beginning of the movie Snow White. He often expresses his hopes to run away with Mattie, but
sadly never receives the happy ending that he had hoped for. Ethan makes an attempt at a solution
when he and Mattie make the decision to go sledding into an elm tree together. Unlike the prince in
the story, Ethan never gets to be with Mattie, and only makes things worse when the injuries sustained
from the crash changed Mattie s personality

Essay on Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent
Judges Need to Follow Previous Precedent
The lower courts are bound by the House of Lords so they have to apply their rules as if they were
applying a statute. It was decided after the case London street tramways v London county council
(1898) that the House of Lords would be bound by its own previous decisions. This was a case during
the nineteenth century, during the Victorian times when it was important to be consistent and certain.
However during the twentieth century both society and the law developed and some decisions made in
previous cases were now unsuitable, so the House of Lords made a Practice Statement in 1966. As a

Pepper v Hart (1993) overruled Beswick v Beswick (1968) on the use of Hansard as an extrinsic aid to
statutory interpretation.
The Court of Appeal is usually bound by its own previous decisions and always bound by those of the
House of Lords. However there are some exceptions to this rule shown in Young v Bristol Aeroplane
Co (1944) . Where there were conflicting decisions in past cases then the court of appeal can choose
which one to follow or reject. If a House of Lords decision overrules a court of appeal decision then
they must follow the House of Lords decision. Where a Court of appeal decision was made per
incurium then the decision made in error can be overruled. There is a further exception now that if a
case conflicts with the decision of the European court of justice, the court of appeal will have to
follow the decision of the European court of justice instead of its own. Lord Denning has voiced his
argument in favour of giving more power to the Court of Appeal and in Davis v Johnson (1978) he
wished to provide justice as quickly as possible for a spouse in a matrimonial dispute. He wanted the
Court if appeal to be able to overrule a previous decision if convinced that the decision was wrong but
the House of Lords unequivocally and unanimously reaffirmed the rules of

The use of the 10 micro skills for classroom management reduced the serious disruptive behaviour
from occurring (Goldman, 2003). The minimisation of misbehaviour increased student participation
(standards 4.1 and 4.3). Having an awareness of the students zone of proximal development assisted in
organising classroom activities specific to the needs of the learners. This supported inclusive student
participation and engagement in classroom activities (standard 4.1). The use of a PowerPoint
presentation resulted in effective organisation of classroom activities and providing clear directions
(standard 4.2). This positive affected the success of classroom activities. According to Rosenshine

Throughout Celtic culture and history music is an extremely important aspect of life. The Celts had a

One special holiday that is celebrated by the Scottish is called The Turn of the Celtic Year and is the

reads, At October s end, I found myself with an international group that began discussing the different
ways in which people observed Halloween, or All Saints Eve, or el Día de los Muertos, or as I pointed
out to everyone s surprise the Scottish festival Samhuinn, which marks the turn of the Celtic year and
the beginning of winter. (Burnside, 2016). This shows that even though the world may not know of
certain holidays the Celts enjoyed celebrating at almost any given moment. Saint Patrick s Day is a
holiday that most of the world knows and enjoys as well even though its origins come from Ireland. In
an article written by Patrick Hicks known as Shamrocks on a Prairie, it states, Whenever I mingle with

Developing Strategies Involves Hypothesis Generation
Developing strategies involves hypothesis generation, creating a series of if then statements. This
process provides the ability to evaluate program effectiveness, to identify significant objectives and to
organize objectives in hierarchical form (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Program design is essentially
hypothesis generation. The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a
framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states
program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement,
and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). The hypothesis questions are translated into a plan, becoming

al, 2013).
The process of formulating objectives requires that I first establish the objective outcome, to be
followed by the construction of process objectives. Outcome objectives are statements made that
identify expectations of the program, and process objectives clearly state how the service provision
will achieved results. Alongside process objectives are specific activities that detail tasks for program
implementation (Kettner, et. al, 2013).The five components of objectives are: time frame,
identification of the target of the change, the results or outcomes to be achieved, the criteria by which
the results will be documented, monitored, or measured, and notification of who is responsible for
implementing and measuring the achievement of the objective (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Activities
establish the implementation plan clearly, include deadlines, and delegate responsibility.
For the first objective written to meet the goal of the creation of a behavior management program, the
objective is as follows: It is the objective of this program that by May 30th, 2016 to reduce by 85% the

The Literary Analysis Of Cold Harbor By John Reekie
Throughout history, war has invariably been the solution to conflicts that arise between two opposing
sides of mankind. As Bertrand Russell puts it, War does not determine who is right but who is left .
The illustration, Cold Harbor by John Reekie, captures the aftermath of the Civil War as African
Americans pick up the deceased soldiers from the battlefield. Cold Harbor is one of many pictures
depicting the losses of the Civil War and, while it may evoke a part of the disturbances caused by the
Civil War, it can never help one mentally reconstruct what the war was like. This picture aids in
elucidating the fallacies of the Civil War by placing emphasis on the massive death toll and the
economic motives that resulted in the persistence of prejudiced social constructs. The purpose of the
illustration was to give an insightful eye into the aftermath of the war including how it affected
Americans. The document seems to create a memoir. Given that things were posed in a specific way, it
seems that the photo was intended to show the original location and source of the bones. In the
document, it shows a group of African Americans picking up the remains of soldiers who died in the
battle year before this. The remains are of soldiers from a battle because of the uniforms the bodies are
wearing. Through showing the Americans the remains of the soldiers, it gives the war a sense of
remorse and meaning. By having the bodies all stacked on top of each other and the skulls of the

If I were to find a relationship between income and sex after the means comparison test, I would run a
multivariate regression test in order to analyze my dependent variable with my independent and
control variables.
For the purpose of the experiment, I must acknowledge that my hypothesis may be wrong. Therefor,
my null hypothesis is that there is no relationship between sex and income, proving that the pay gap
does not exist. My goal in my research is to reject my null hypothesis, and in turn accept my working
hypothesis.
Results
In order for a theory to be accepted, it must be tested. While one can rely upon the results of other
researchers, it is important to conduct one s own test in order to correctly receive results. Although I
read that there is a relationship between sex and income, I wanted to test these variables for myself. In
order to find an initial relationship I conducted a means comparison test between my independent
variable, sex, and my dependent variable, respondent s income. When I ran the means comparison test
I found that the average income of males was 15.54, the equivalence of 15.54 with regards to income
falls between the economic bracket of $25,000 $29,999 and $30,000 $34,999. The average income of
females was 13.21, which fell between the economic bracket of $20,000 $22,499 and $22,500
$24,999. This information has the potential to show me that my hypothesis is correct because in this

The Problems Of Waste And Waste Management
What are the dilemmas with Waste or Urbanization and Farming? Before we can begin to discuss this
topic we first must look into the impact of waste and waste management, but more importantly what
types of waste we produce. Most people really do not care about the environment until it impacts them

Changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its environment will help it survive and have more
offspring. The two main points of the theory are All life on earth is connected and related to each other
and this diversity of life is a product of modifications of populations by natural selection, where some
traits were favored in and environment over others. For those that believe in evolution, if we evolved
from ape like ancestors how did they get here? Why aren t the ape like ancestors around? Why is there
no evidence of them ever existing? The answer, because humans did not evolve from ape like
creatures but were created just as all living things were. Evolution proposes that only a small group of
individuals that were genetically isolated from the others, evolved, leaving the others to remain the
same. The only way we know to acquire new genes is to alter existing genes through random
mutation. The best alteration science has observed has produced only novel re combinations, most
deteriorate the genetic information and thus harm the offspring. Many mutations are fatal. Evolution
requires trillions of innovative mutations to produce man from lower forms, and at least millions to
produce man or apes from an ape like ancestor. None have been observed. Therefore evolution is just
a bunch of nonsense that

Textual Analysis Of Sleep
Most people do not get enough sleep. We have created an all natural solution. Elite Sleep is a
wristband that uses all natural ingredients that will improve the quality of your sleep. After I came up
with the idea for this product I researched if this product already existed or not and it did not. Since
this product did not exist, no one knew anything about it. Based on this, I reasoned that the first
advertisement endorsing anything should be informative, so I ended up with a logos centered ad with
some pathos and ethos appeal thrown in. As far as demographics of my audience are concerned, I tried
to open the door to as many people as possible by not stating a specific group of people that would
benefit from this product. Truly anyone could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now I actually begin to describe the product starting with how it is an improvement on the melatonin

natural ingredients and their characteristics, which is an appeal to people who like natural, wholesome
products over chemicals as well as an implied thought process of, Do I want natural ingredients or
chemicals in my sleep aid? . I explain the natural characteristics of these oils later in the ad. I then
describe the actual wristband and the reservoir of oils and the background changes again, to a picture
of the oil resivoir. It is a simple design, which appeals to many people because if the design is simple,
it should be easy to use. Nobody wants to have to struggle with a complicated piece of technology at
bedtime, they just want to go to sleep, and this product is far from complicated. Next, I list the oils in
the wristband because people have heard of at least some of these oils before and believe that they are
beneficial, and thus I am appealing to the credibility of these oils. These oils naturally relax the body
for sleep, and I explicitly state this fact as a direct appeal to the natural, chemical free nature of this
product. I also mention the fact that these oils have their greatest effect when applied to the inside of
your wrists to complete the image of a product without flaws. The last strategy I use is a suggestion to
try Elite Sleep, which should be an effective strategy considering the evidence presented in the ad.
Elite Sleep uses all natural ingredients to improve the quality of your sleep in a simple, easy to use

audience to buy this product. I used some pathos and ethos appeal as well, but the main strategies used

The Examination Of Forensic Science
Science is frequently viewed as a way to examine the world and its contiguous atmosphere. Coming
from the word scientia, which is Latin and means knowledge, science is a methodical readiness that
creates and arranges information in the form of testable justifications and expectations about the world
that we know. Many ideas fall directly into this category. Because of this, a lot of notions and concepts
can be categorized as a science discipline. It is apparent that certain science disciplines examine
different features and functionalities of the universe. One specific science that is exceptionally
captivating and enticing is the idea of forensics. Forensic science is a systematic technique of
collecting and investigating evidence about previous events. The idea of forensic science however is a
comprehensive discipline and can be fragmented down into numerous classifications. Forensic science
can be distributed into such groupings as forensic psychology, forensic anthropology, forensic biology,
and even, but not limited to forensic biology. The examination of forensic chemistry is unbelievably
beneficial since it can be used in many aspects in life and can even be considered as a career path. One
of the prime professional openings for a path in forensic chemistry is aiding and functioning with law
enforcement administrators. Forensic chemistry within law enforcement is of tremendous importance
since the majority of seized evidence may be evaluated that way.

Unit 7 Construction and maintenance of buildings
Assignment 1
P1.1:
Desktop Surveys This survey takes place before the site has been visited and before construction has
begun which is during the very early stages of planning. The survey involves a number of different
things like the internet, books, maps, geological maps and council offices which all play a part within
the survey. A good starting point is to consult a number of large scale maps of the proposed site to
check the site boundaries, building lines, existing buildings and other man made, or natural, features
which will affect the future buildings. A comparison with older maps may give some clues to
determine former use and potential hazards that may arise.

P1.2:
Ground investigations are a crucial part of the survey as they determine the nature of the land and
explains the different types of soil which helps identify the type of foundations that should be used or
how water absorbent the soil is. A few stages of a ground investigation include; Trial Pitting, Dynamic
Probe testing/Sampling, Cable Percussive Boreholes and Rotary Boreholes.
Trial Pitting Trial pits can easily be performed by hand but it will take triple the amount of time and
you won t be able to get a good depth to get a good samples. Trial pits are usually dug mechanically
because it is finished much faster and can be dug a lot deeper. Trial pits are normally excavated at
4.5m deep as this provides a good insight of what the foundations will be sitting on and it provides
information if deeper foundations are needed. The advantages of machinery is that greater depths can
be achieved which would result in a more detailed soil sample test etc. A disadvantage of this would
be minor ground disturbance which could cause problems.
Dynamic probe testing/Sampling This can be performed with a tracked percussive or pneumatic

4 Neutrophil Test: Neutrophil was isolated according to the method previously described (Hana et al.,
2008). Principle: Neutrophil was isolated using a standard density gradient separation method to
isolate neutrophils from whole blood using commercially available separation media that is a mixture
of sodium metrizoate and Dextran 500. The procedure consists of layering whole blood over the
density gradient medium, centrifugation, separation of neutrophil layer, and lysis of residual
erythrocytes. Cells are then washed, counted, and resuspended in buffer to desired concentration.
When performed correctly, this method has been shown to yield samples of 95% neutrophils with 95%
viability. Procedure: 1. Bring all reagents to room temperature. ... Show more content on

The Effects Of Air Conditioning On The United States
Is the United States addicted to air conditioning? The use of air conditioning within the United States
is higher than any other country As Badger has noted: We love our air conditioning in the U.S. The
amenity is more common in American homes 87 percent of us have either central air or window units .
This has resulted in Americans becoming addicted to air conditioning. Addiction can be caused from
always being around cooled homes, offices and cars. People start to get used to feeling the cool
temperatures instead of the hot weather. Before Americans realize it, living without air conditioning
becomes harder. Europeans do not use as much air conditioning; instead, they decide to tough it out
and deal with the hotter weather. This is important because as the world s energy is not 100%
environmentally friendly, pollution will increase from the higher demand for energy. As the damage to
the environment continues it could get to a point where the damage can be irreversible. Mainly the
damage is being done to the protective ozone layer in the atmosphere. The ozone layer helps the earth
block harmful ultraviolet rays, which can cause temperature rise and skin cancer to humans.
Americans should decrease the use of air conditioning because greener methods for cooling are
possible; the cool culture can be reversed, and adapting building regulations will help cool buildings
differently.
The cool culture of the United States is one that resulted from people getting used to air

When does someone become an adult. Is it at a certain age or certain level of maturity? A person
should be considered an adult when they mature. And by mature i mean he/she reasons better, makes

Standing on their own is a big factor in being an adult because that s when u are able to support

supporting yourself means you don t need others which i believe makes a person an adult. Reasoning

Analysis Of La Migra By Pat Mora
La Migra by Pat Mora is a poem that leads to the different points of view of two opposite personnels.
This poem was that it had a very simple, common setting and situation. And you have been spotted by
the sun... I know this desert, where to rest, where to drink. (Mora 1191). This set of lines tells me that
the poem took place somewhere near the border where typically people try to cross the border. When
crossing the border, there are some lakes or some deserts, it all depends on which part you cross.
Although the desert seems empty and boring, this poem had an interesting situation. It gave the
readers a chance to see what the two characters in the poem were seeing through their own point of
view.
This poem tends to reveal character when it described the two points of view between the main
characters. Let s play La Migra, I ll be the Border Patrol. You be the Mexican maid... Get ready, get
set, run. (Mora 1190 1191). This whole first stanza implies that the border patrol will have it s
advantages and characteristics over the mexican maid and it doesn t give any of her advantages, just
pure weaknesses. It was trying to say that the mexican maid was doomed and the border patrol had
full power over her. Let s play La Migra, You ll be the Border Patrol. I ll be the Mexican woman... you
do not understand. Get ready. (Mora 1191). Then in the whole second stanza, things start to turn
around. Now the Mexican maid gets full power over the border patrol. It gives all the advantages of

Social Insanity In Medieval Europe
Insanity in medieval Europe can be classified according to social and religious violations. Insane was
one of the worst labels a man could get during the time of knights. By being labeled a madman, a
respected man could become lower than trash. Whether labeled insane due to strangeness or for
religious beliefs that differed from the norm, the fact remains that these individuals were all outcasts
from society.
Social Insanity
Definition
Insanity, in medieval Europe in the context of social violations, is the condition in which a man or
woman acts in a manner deemed outrageous or illogical by the common man. By being labeled insane,
a person would be lowered to the equivalent status level of an unreliable drunk. Thus businesses could
be crushed and lives ruined if your actions were considered as too strange by the public.
Treatment
The so called cure of the time for social insanity was isolation, a process by which the potential lunatic
is locked up on their own until the patient either shows improvement or dies. When it came to curing
the patient, isolation sometimes worked, but it depended on the degree of infliction. In some cases, a
patient who wasn t actually insane was driven insane by the solitude instead of being cured by it.
Legally, the patient s land would typically be given to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Middle Ages Europe had a society dominated by religion, specifically Christianity. This
extreme case of following doctrine also led to a new definition of insanity. Many thought that those
who had refused the forgiving power of God must surely be mad. It was believed that when someone
acted in accordance with the church, it was because of their God given soul; however, if they did not,
it was believed something had happened to their soul. (Tyrell 1) At least, that s how the minds of men

Albert Einstein And The Atomic Bomb
In the afternoon of August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima no longer resembled the bustling urban area
it was just a few short hours before. At a quarter after eight in the morning, an atomic bomb fell from
the sky. A bomb small enough to carry on a plane was powerful enough to destroy five square miles of
city (¨Manhattan Project¨ par. 10). John Hersey writes in Hiroshima about what a priest saw just after
the bomb exploded two miles away from him. A priest saw clouds of smoke rising from fires that
started after the explosion (Hersey 18). Creating the atomic bomb which caused so much destruction
was a process which involved many people. Leo Szilard, Albert Einstein, and Julius Oppenheimer
were men whose work brought the beginning to the project. Every good idea needs a kick to it,
something that stands out for people to notice and look deeper. That kick was Albert Einstein, who
was important to the science of atoms before the Manhattan project began (¨Mainwood¨ par.1). His
knowledge of atoms were key to how the atomic bomb works only up to a certain point before he
couldn t do anything else. Despite his area of study, Einstein was not an atomic scientist (¨Mainwood¨
par. 2). He was not involved with the Manhattan project at all, he never worked a day with Szilard or
Oppenheimer, their area of science was different than his. The thing that he did most important for the
Manhattan project was signing a piece of paper prompting the need for atomic weapons to be used in

Goblin Market Essay
Even though Christina Rossetti claims that her 1862 poem, Goblin Market is supposed to appeal to
children, through feminism and sexuality it is more PG 13. In the poem Goblin Market , one thing
Christina Rossetti focuses on is feminism. The story starts off as introducing the two girls, Laura and
Lizzie that are also sisters. The two girls decide to go on a walk. They run across a little fruit stand
where these goblins are selling fruit. In the poem Rossetti describes the goblins as very gruesome and
ugly. Also in the poem, the two girls appearance is never mentioned which can make the reader think
why they were approached by the goblin men. At the end of the poem, although it mentions that they
both have husbands, it never says anything else about the two husbands in the rest of the poem.

Lucy Human Evolution
Lucy was exposed by Donald Johanson, an anthropologist, with his team, went to survey Hadar in
Ethiopia during the late 1970s for signs in understanding Human origins. On November 24, 1974 by
the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of
his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains
examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a
slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a
thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and

Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human,
as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the
capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer
than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling
primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely
evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee
joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on
two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size
and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern
ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a
thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and
the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human
when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an
extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking
around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids
have deep rooted that conclusion. Bipedalism, it seems, was the initial stage towards becoming

The Effects Of Being Vegetarian On Our Brain Essay
Introduction In this paper I will discuss the effects of being vegetarian on our brain depending on the
amount of vitamins and minerals we consume through this diet, and how it affects the way our brain
functions. Being a vegetarian is a very powerful decision, because it takes into account your moral
standards and beliefs. Putting your morals into your nutrition is very empowering, but it can affect our
bodies in many different ways whether that being positive or negative. The negative side of the
spectrum is that meat and animal products contain so many different vitamins and minerals that when
we take this away it can cause deficiencies in the diet that can affect our bodies in very vast ways
including our brain function.
The Negative Side of the Spectrum Vitamins and minerals are key to the proper function and
development of our brain. Two of the most important nutrients contributing to our brains include
vitamin B12 and the omega 3 fatty acid. Vitamin B12 is a key factor in the development of the brain,
while omega 3 fatty acids contribute to better pregnancy outcome and reduced risk for brain disorders.
Both of these nutrients are low in the vegetarian diet, which means deficiencies are very common
among them. This also means vegetarians are at a higher risk for brain disorders or impairment. Our
nutrient intake also directly correlates with our offspring. In a study it states that the offspring from the
vitamin B12 deficient group showed impaired cognition as they

Reaction Paper On Devils Tower
Amie Hadley
Period: 6
Mrs.Howsden
Geology Research Project Devils tower is a geological formation in our nation s first national park.
The tower is a rock formation known as a laccolithic butte. Laccolithic is a term used for large masses
of rocks which were made of magma, typically under ground between rock strata. Most laccoliths are
round and dome shaped, but devils tower has been eroded to the point of having a flat top and very
steep sides. There is also no evidence of volcanic activity around Devils Tower, but some researchers
just believe that it may have eroded away over time. Devils tower is also known as a stock, the most
basic explanation is that it was once under the ground but is now exposed. Before devils tower was
exposed it was surrounded and buried by sedimentary rocks, because sedimentary rocks and shale are
a lot softer than igneous rock they eroded away and left the tower standing tall. There used to be water
covering the land, this sea once covered most of the western united states long ago. This water played
a huge part in eroding away the sediments and rock that once covered devils tower. The tower itself is
also being slowly eroded, and one day may not even exist. The rock formation was discovered in 1875
on an expedition led by Colonel Richard Dodge, he spoke to indigenous peoples in the area and might
of got a bad translation. He thought they called it the bad god s tower. So he modified that phrase to

  • 2. Types Of Discrimination And Discrimination TYPES OF DISCRIMINATION ❖Direct Discrimination: In this case the employee is treated less favorably by the employer simply because of his or her HIV status. For example, rejecting a job application because of employee HIV infection or excluding an HIV positive employee from the company pension scheme because of an assumption that he or she would draw on it early. (6) The law also protects people who are discriminated against because they are associated with a person with HIV (for example, the partner of a person with HIV). Furthermore, it protects employees or potential employees who are discriminated against because they are perceived to have HIV and/or another disability, either correctly or incorrectly.(Discrimination against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (6) ❖Discrimination arising from a disability: This deals with situations in which the employer treats the employee less favourably for a reason related to their disability. For example, the employer chooses a person for redundancy because persons living with HIV has had a lot of time off related to their illnesses(that is poor attendance record arising in consequence of HIV infection). (6) ❖Harassment Harassment occurs where, for a reason which relates to a person s HIV status or/and a disability, another person engages in unwanted conduct which either violates the disabled person s dignity, or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for him or her. (6) ❖Victimisation Victimization is considered if employees are penalised because they have complained about discrimination in some way, perhaps verbally, in a letter, in a written grievance, or in court case. A person may be victimised for giving evidence that another person has been discriminated against. However, in this instance, the employees will need to demonstrate that: ●They made an initial complaint (or gave evidence) of discrimination and specified that it was disability discrimination, race discrimination, etc. Simply complaining of discrimination or unfair treatment would not be enough(6). ●They were treated less favourably as a result of their disability. For example, they were disciplined, dismissed, refused promotion, denied overtime, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national defense. Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by ... • 4. Small Business Administration Research According to Small Business Administration research, only half of new businesses survive for the first five years and only a third of new businesses are able to survive for 10 years. The inverse is compelling as we can conclude that if only 50% of new businesses survive for the first five years, then the other 50% fail in the first five years. We can also conclude that about 65% of new businesses don t make it to the ten year mark. Forbes reports an even more grim statistic, based on Bloomberg research, that of every 10 businesses, eight fail within the first 18 months. What are the reasons businesses fail to thrive, given a 50/50 chance of survival and assuming a product or service for which there s a demand? Let s discuss six reasons businesses fail and some ways you can avoid business failure. Six Reasons Businesses Fail 1. Leadership Failure. Your business can fail if you exhibit poor management skills, which can be evident in many forms. You will struggle as a leader if you don t have enough experience making management decisions, supervising a staff, or the vision to lead your organization. Perhaps your leadership team is not in agreement on how the business should be run. You and your leaders may be arguing with each other publicly or contradicting each other s instructions to the staff. When problems requiring strong leadership occur, you may be reluctant to take charge and resolve the issues while your business continues to slip toward failure. How to ... • 6. Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Film Analysis Paper: One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Summery I The Story takes place in a state mental hospital in Oregon, 1963. 38 year old Randel Patrick Mc Murphy Mac played by Jack Nicholson is being transferred from a prison work farm to the hospital for mental evaluation. Mac is trying to avoid the work required by his sentence of statutory rape of a 15 year old girl by claiming (he is a marvel of modern science) insanity. The hospital is overseen by Nurse Ratched, who according to Mac does not play fair . She has a dominating personality with a passive aggressive way of handling the patients. Her humiliation of the patients combined with her senseless control bring her and Mac to a test of wills that challenges each other throughout the movie. Mac makes friends with the other patients and soon he is looked up to and seen as the leader of the group and a father figure. His group is made up of some very strong well developed characters like Cheswick, childlike tantrum thrower, Mr Harding (Hard on), an intellectual man struggling with his own sexuality, Billy, a stuttering very insecure young man, Martini, always smiling and very simple minded, and Chief, an enormous Indian who everyone is fooling everyone into thinking he is deaf and dumb when in actuality he is normal. Throughout the film Mac and Ratched bump heads while trying to achieve the goal of making everyone think he is insane. By trying to prove this he refuses to sit there like a vegetable , so he ... The Evolution Of Information Management Systems The evolution of technology and the importance of information management systems have led to the evolution of new experts in the industry known as Data Scientists who work on data science. Despite the hype and confusion surrounding data science, the need for people who can interpret data to help organizations make informed business decisions is very real. Data scientists look at the data sets in nature or complex systems and extract information from it. In today s age businesses have started to gain tons of data and science already knew how to deal with such large volumes trough physics, applied mathematics and computer science. Traditionally any information management system has been defined as the collection and management of information from one or more sources and information dissemination to relevant stakeholders. However, the message that is missing in this definition is that the quality of information system determines the outcome of the information even before data collection . A poor information system would drive employees to take decisions and form opinions based on assumptions rather than substance. There would be no synergy of thoughts and thus would lead to conflicting views of managers and leaders. Hence, it is imperative for information management system to be in line with the business strategy. • 10. Prehensile Tail Research Paper Prehensile Tails Creatures have a variety of traits that make them unique. This can include traits such as having scales as opposed to fur or having claws or opposable thumbs. As traits are passed down from generation to generation, individuals of the species that have traits that help them survive and thrive in their current environment tend to reproduce more. This leads to a higher frequency of the population having this desireable trait. When a creature has a trait that allows them to survive and thrive in their environment, this trait is called an adaptation. (OpenStax, 2013) One example of an adaptation that helps creatures thrive in their environment is the prehensile tail. Through natural selection these prehensile tailed mammals were able to reproduce and the adaptation was passed on to their offspring. (Mirajkar, 1970) Regarding adaptations, there are two main types; homologous adaptations and analogous adaptations. In a homologous adaptation, creatures with the adaptation are all thought to come from a common ancestor. In an analogous adaptation, the adaptation develops separately because of a common necessity, but a common ancestor is not present. Prehensile tails would be considered analogous. While many monkeys have a common ancestor, prehensile tails have also been seen in reptiles and fish. The structure of each different type of tail is radically different. Some lizards have detachable prehensile tails, while the prehensile tail of most monkeys is an extension of vertebrae from their spinal cord. This suggests that they do not share a common ancestor. (Homologies and Analogies, n.d.) Another way to classify adaptations is into convergent and divergent evolutions. As Bertrand Russell puts it, War does not determine who is right but who is left . The illustration, Cold Harbor by John Reekie, captures the aftermath of the Civil War as African Americans pick up the deceased soldiers from the battlefield. Cold Harbor is one of many pictures depicting the losses of the Civil War and, while it may evoke a part of the disturbances caused by the Civil War, it can never help one mentally reconstruct what the war was like. This picture aids in elucidating the fallacies of the Civil War by placing emphasis on the massive death toll and the economic motives that resulted in the persistence of prejudiced social constructs. The purpose of the illustration was to give an insightful eye into the aftermath of the war including how it affected Americans. The document seems to create a memoir. Given that things were posed in a specific way, it seems that the photo was intended to show the original location and source of the bones. The answer, because humans did not evolve from ape like creatures but were created just as all living things were. Evolution proposes that only a small group of individuals that were genetically isolated from the others, evolved, leaving the others to remain the same. The only way we know to acquire new genes is to alter existing genes through random mutation. The use of air conditioning within the United States is higher than any other country As Badger has noted: We love our air conditioning in the U.S. The amenity is more common in American homes 87 percent of us have either central air or window units . This has resulted in Americans becoming addicted to air conditioning. Addiction can be caused from always being around cooled homes, offices and cars. People start to get used to feeling the cool temperatures instead of the hot weather. Before Americans realize it, living without air conditioning becomes harder. Europeans do not use as much air conditioning; instead, they decide to tough it out and deal with the hotter weather. This is important because as the world s energy is not 100% environmentally friendly, pollution will increase from the higher demand for energy. As the damage to the environment continues it could get to a point where the damage can be irreversible. Mainly the damage is being done to the protective ozone layer in the atmosphere. The ozone layer helps the earth block harmful ultraviolet rays, which can cause temperature rise and skin cancer to humans. Americans should decrease the use of air conditioning because greener methods for cooling are possible; the cool culture can be reversed, and adapting building regulations will help cool buildings differently. The cool culture of the United States is one that resulted from people getting used to air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. When Should Young People Be Allowed To Lower The Age Of... When does someone become an adult. Is it at a certain age or certain level of maturity? A person should be considered an adult when they mature. And by mature i mean he/she reasons better, makes better choices, knows the consequences for making bad decisions, and are able to stand on their own. Standing on their own is a big factor in being an adult because that s when u are able to support yourself and not depend on parents financially and emotionally. And being able to do that and supporting yourself means you don t need others which i believe makes a person an adult. Reasoning better is also a sign of adulthood. Because most teenagers aren t able to reason as good as most older people which leads to making the wrong decision which can lead to trouble. And at the age of 18 the brain still isn t fully developed which makes people not responsible yet. • 28. Analysis Of La Migra By Pat Mora La Migra by Pat Mora is a poem that leads to the different points of view of two opposite personnels. This poem was that it had a very simple, common setting and situation. And you have been spotted by the sun... I know this desert, where to rest, where to drink. (Mora 1191). This set of lines tells me that the poem took place somewhere near the border where typically people try to cross the border. When crossing the border, there are some lakes or some deserts, it all depends on which part you cross. Although the desert seems empty and boring, this poem had an interesting situation. It gave the readers a chance to see what the two characters in the poem were seeing through their own point of view. This poem tends to reveal character when it described the two points of view between the main characters. Let s play La Migra, I ll be the Border Patrol. You be the Mexican maid... Get ready, get set, run. (Mora 1190 1191). This whole first stanza implies that the border patrol will have it s advantages and characteristics over the mexican maid and it doesn t give any of her advantages, just pure weaknesses. It was trying to say that the mexican maid was doomed and the border patrol had full power over her. Let s play La Migra, You ll be the Border Patrol. I ll be the Mexican woman... you do not understand. Get ready. (Mora 1191). Then in the whole second stanza, things start to turn around. Now the Mexican maid gets full power over the border patrol. • 29. Social Insanity In Medieval Europe Insanity in medieval Europe can be classified according to social and religious violations. Insane was one of the worst labels a man could get during the time of knights. By being labeled a madman, a respected man could become lower than trash. Whether labeled insane due to strangeness or for religious beliefs that differed from the norm, the fact remains that these individuals were all outcasts from society. Social Insanity Definition Insanity, in medieval Europe in the context of social violations, is the condition in which a man or woman acts in a manner deemed outrageous or illogical by the common man. By being labeled insane, a person would be lowered to the equivalent status level of an unreliable drunk. Thus businesses could be crushed and lives ruined if your actions were considered as too strange by the public. Treatment The so called cure of the time for social insanity was isolation, a process by which the potential lunatic is locked up on their own until the patient either shows improvement or dies. When it came to curing the patient, isolation sometimes worked, but it depended on the degree of infliction. In some cases, a patient who wasn t actually insane was driven insane by the solitude instead of being cured by it. Legally, the patient s land would typically be given to ... • 30. Albert Einstein And The Atomic Bomb In the afternoon of August 6, 1945, the city of Hiroshima no longer resembled the bustling urban area it was just a few short hours before. At a quarter after eight in the morning, an atomic bomb fell from the sky. A bomb small enough to carry on a plane was powerful enough to destroy five square miles of city (¨Manhattan Project¨ par. 10). John Hersey writes in Hiroshima about what a priest saw just after the bomb exploded two miles away from him. A priest saw clouds of smoke rising from fires that started after the explosion (Hersey 18). Creating the atomic bomb which caused so much destruction was a process which involved many people. Leo Szilard, Albert Einstein, and Julius Oppenheimer were men whose work brought the beginning to the project. Every good idea needs a kick to it, something that stands out for people to notice and look deeper. That kick was Albert Einstein, who was important to the science of atoms before the Manhattan project began (¨Mainwood¨ par.1). His knowledge of atoms were key to how the atomic bomb works only up to a certain point before he couldn t do anything else. Despite his area of study, Einstein was not an atomic scientist (¨Mainwood¨ par. 2). He was not involved with the Manhattan project at all, he never worked a day with Szilard or Oppenheimer, their area of science was different than his. The thing that he did most important for the Manhattan project was signing a piece of paper prompting the need for atomic weapons to be used in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poem Goblin Market , one thing Christina Rossetti focuses on is feminism. The story starts off as introducing the two girls, Laura and Lizzie that are also sisters. The two girls decide to go on a walk. They run across a little fruit stand where these goblins are selling fruit. In the poem Rossetti describes the goblins as very gruesome and ugly. Also in the poem, the two girls appearance is never mentioned which can make the reader think why they were approached by the goblin men. At the end of the poem, although it mentions that they both have husbands, it never says anything else about the two husbands in the rest of the poem. On November 24, 1974 by the Awash River, Donald s plan for the day was to update his notes but decided otherwise when one of his students, Tom Gray, joined him to find fossil bones. Both of them were on the hot waterless plains examining the sandy terrain when a fossil was spotted; it turned out to be an arm bone fragments on a slope. As they looked closer, more and more bones were found, including a jaw, arm bone, a thighbone, ribs, and vertebrae. Donald and Tom had cautiously examined the limited skeleton and calculated that a remarkable 40% of a hominid skeleton was salvaged, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Experts claim that Lucy was in certain ways more adapted to walking vertical than a modern human, as the pelvis has to cooperate between bipedal (using only two legs for walking) movement and the capability to give birth to big brained offspring. Others talk about her arms, saying they were longer than a modern human s, and the bones of her fingers were curve, these were also seen in tree dwelling primates. This adds the question, how much did she use her climbing skills, or were they purely evolutionary remains from arboreal descendants, is a matter of debate. Although Lucy s hip and knee joints were not as specialized for a upright posture like humans, she was clearly able of walking on two feet, although running like a modern human was undoubtedly outside her capabilities. The size and shape of her ribcage and pelvis indicate that she most likely had a quite large belly, like a modern ape, evidence to a relatively low quality, high bulk diet. Due to her diet this would of given her a thicker waist, which most likely would have impeded her flexibility, secondly her high shoulders and the shape of her torso meant she would most likely not of been able to swing her arms like a human when running. All these answers are due to her skeleton being so complete; Lucy gave the world an extraordinary picture of her kind. In 1974, she exposed that human ancestors were up and walking around way before the first stone tools were made, as fossil finding of much earlier bipedal hominids have deep rooted that conclusion. • 37. The Effects Of Being Vegetarian On Our Brain Essay Introduction In this paper I will discuss the effects of being vegetarian on our brain depending on the amount of vitamins and minerals we consume through this diet, and how it affects the way our brain functions. Being a vegetarian is a very powerful decision, because it takes into account your moral standards and beliefs. Putting your morals into your nutrition is very empowering, but it can affect our bodies in many different ways whether that being positive or negative. The negative side of the spectrum is that meat and animal products contain so many different vitamins and minerals that when we take this away it can cause deficiencies in the diet that can affect our bodies in very vast ways including our brain function. The Negative Side of the Spectrum Vitamins and minerals are key to the proper function and development of our brain. Two of the most important nutrients contributing to our brains include vitamin B12 and the omega 3 fatty acid. Vitamin B12 is a key factor in the development of the brain, while omega 3 fatty acids contribute to better pregnancy outcome and reduced risk for brain disorders. Both of these nutrients are low in the vegetarian diet, which means deficiencies are very common among them. This also means vegetarians are at a higher risk for brain disorders or impairment. Our nutrient intake also directly correlates with our offspring. In a study it states that the offspring from the vitamin B12 deficient group showed impaired cognition as they ... • 38. Reaction Paper On Devils Tower Amie Hadley Period: 6 Mrs.Howsden Geology Research Project Devils tower is a geological formation in our nation s first national park. The tower is a rock formation known as a laccolithic butte. Laccolithic is a term used for large masses of rocks which were made of magma, typically under ground between rock strata. Most laccoliths are round and dome shaped, but devils tower has been eroded to the point of having a flat top and very steep sides. There is also no evidence of volcanic activity around Devils Tower, but some researchers just believe that it may have eroded away over time. Devils tower is also known as a stock, the most basic explanation is that it was once under the ground but is now exposed. Before devils tower was exposed it was surrounded and buried by sedimentary rocks, because sedimentary rocks and shale are a lot softer than igneous rock they eroded away and left the tower standing tall. There used to be water covering the land, this sea once covered most of the western united states long ago. This water played a huge part in eroding away the sediments and rock that once covered devils tower. The tower itself is also being slowly eroded, and one day may not even exist. The rock formation was discovered in 1875 on an expedition led by Colonel Richard Dodge, he spoke to indigenous peoples in the area and might of got a bad translation. He thought they called it the bad god s tower. So he modified that phrase to Devil s tower. When president ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
