Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1
The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from
all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the
colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur
overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and
orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s
morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s
Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies.
Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation.
Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists
were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been
easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the
colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence.
During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight
against the British and return home. General George Washington wanted to encourage his troops to
remain strong in their fight. In order to do this, General Washington had Thomas Paine s The Crisis
No. 1. read to his soldiers. Thomas Paine wrote The Crisis

Amalie Emmy Noether
By: Nolan LaFrance
Ms. Kaylon Cantrell
We have been assigned an extra credit math project to create a paper on a famous mathematician. My
first thought was what man should I choose. After all, aren t all great mathematicians men? Well, I
have decided to research and find a great female mathematician. I have selected Amalie Emmy
Noether. I have chosen Amalie Emmy Noether to show everyone that a famous mathematician can be
a lady. Today we won t do everything by the numbers, instead we will meet Ms. Amalie Emmy

Ms. Amalie Emmy Noether was born March, 23rd, 1882 in Erlangen Germany. She passed away April

Examples Of Colonialism In The Last Of The Mohicans

British Literature
24 October 2017
The Last of the Mohicans: A Tale of Romance and Racism Falling in love has been a common theme
of literature since people first started writing. The romantic era of literature was from the late 1700 s
to the mid 1800 s. James Fenimore Cooper s The Last of the Mohicans was written at the peak of this
era in 1826. Many have critiqued Cooper s writing style, but few have critiqued his content due to it
being so controversial. Cooper uses the romance between the characters, Cora and Uncas, to cover
racial stereotypes and inequalities throughout The Last of the Mohicans.
The Last of the Mohicans was written by James Fenimore Cooper in 1826, during the romanticism era
of literature. The book is set in 1757, therefore taking place during a time of colonialism. According to
the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Colonialism is a practice of domination, which involves the
subjugation of one people to another (Kohn and Reddy 1) In Cooper s novel, colonialism is present by
the Native Americans being colonized by European Americans. Throughout the book, Cooper
constantly compares European Americans and Native Americans, different tactics and behaviors. ( The
Last 2). As was common in the 19th century, The Last of the Mohicans was published in two volumes
(Scalia 1). This book was the second book of Cooper s Leatherstocking Tales and was the most widely
read of any of the novels of James Fenimore Cooper for more than a

Dj Kol Herc History
Industry of Hip Hop
Where did hip hop originate and who were its founder? Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in
other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many different artists, but there s a case to be made that
it came to life precisely on this day, August 11, 1973, in the west Bronx, New York City. Clive

age of 10 in Kingston, Jamaica, DJ Kool Herc began spinning records at parties and between sets his
father s band played while he was a teenager in the Bronx in the early 1970s. Herc often emulated the
style of Jamaican selectors (DJs) by toasting (i.e., talking) over the records he spun, but his historical
significance has nothing to do with rapping. Kool Herc s contribution to hip hop was even more
fundamental. Born and raised to the age of 10 in Kingston, Jamaica, DJ Kool Herc began spinning

Go Ask Alice By An Anonymous Teenage Girl
The novel Go Ask Alice, written by an anonymous teenage girl, consists of her thoughts, musings, and
feelings throughout her ever worsening battle with drugs. Before the life altering party that introduced
her to this life of addiction, Alice was a typical teenage girl who faced the fears and unknown of
moving to a new town and school, feelings of nonacceptance from her friends and peers, body issues,
and pressure from her parents. The argument can be made that one of the many roots of Alice s
worsening habit is mainly her relationship with her mother and father; however, once Alice has left
her family in search of her next high and life on her own, she began to long for them once again.
Although she ran away from her life and family twice, each time Alice was accepted home with
loving, caring arms. So while her parents may have played a role in her delving into the life of drugs
to escape her woes, they could also be considered one of her potentially saving graces toward the end
of the novel. However, no matter the amount of effort Alice or her family put forth into her recovery,
the drugs ultimately won the battle for Alice s life. At the beginning of the novel, before Alice
attended the fateful party that changed her world forever, she did not fully see her parents affection
toward her; she was caught up in her teenage world of guys and heartbreak, leading her to misinterpret
how her parents only had her best interests in mind. For example, on September 17 she

White Elephants Communication
Communication is inarguably the most effective way of understanding and interacting with one
another. In the stories Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway, and My Son the Fanatic by
Hanif Kureishi, the main characters communicate verbally. The American guy and the girl who are
presumably dating each other in Hills Like White Elephants , as well as Parvez a Pakistani immigrant
to England and his teenage son Ali in My Son the Fanatic , communicate throughout the stories. The
characters communication tells their characteristics, we can acknowledge the broken relationship
between the American and the girl, and between Parvez and Ali through their communication. On the

In Hills Like White Elephants , both the American and the girl speak in short sentences. Hemingway
opens up the story with the girl asking the American What should we drink? , it s pretty hot, the man
said. Let s drink beer (page 1). The girl often uses indirect words, everything tastes of liquorice.
Especially all the things you ve waited so long for, like absinthe (page 2) the girl wants a baby but
does not want to be pregnant. They don t really look like white elephants. I just meant the colouring of
their skin through the trees. (page 2), she is giving a hint that she changes her mind about not keeping
the baby. She also uses sarcastic tone, the American asks do you feel better? , the girl replies I feel
fine, there s nothing wrong with me. I feel fine. (page 5). Yet, the American often talks in a convincing
tone in the assertive style ... but I don t want anybody but you. I don t want anyone else. And I know it
s perfecly simple. (page 4). Whereas in My Son the Fanatic Parvez and Ali often use direct words. Ali
has the assertive style of communication. At the beginning of the story, Parvez asks Ali you don t play
your guitar anymore , Ali replies there are more important things to be done (page 1). Ali is also
indirectly aggressive towards his father and Bettina don t you know it s wrong to drink alcohol? , but
it is forbidden , and so is gambling, isn t it? (page 4). Ali asks Bettina who are you to ask me these
questions? (page 7), he is indirectly referring to Bettina in a negative way. Parvez mostly talks to Ali
with the aggressive style, but what I object to, is being told by my own son that I am going to Hell!
(page 6). After Parvez and Ali s discussion about their beliefs, Parvez says but while I am here on
earth I want to make the best of it. And I want you to, as well! .... but still life is for living! (page

Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee...
Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and
neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the
community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own
experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this
capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of
officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the
program and helped it grow.
While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply.
Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to
community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most
essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone
involved, and not merely the needs of a few.
Catholic School Leadership
The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my
early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as
leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through
to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility

The Rosetta Stone Essay
The Rosetta Stone
In 1799, when Napoleon s army was dismantling a wall in Rashid, Egypt, they discovered the Rosetta
Stone. Little did they know that this 11 inch thick piece of rock would be one of the greatest
discoveries in history! It contained Egyptian scripture, with Greek also on the stone. This was used to
decode the once lost Egyptian writing system. Before the 1800 s, attempts at trying to uncover the
secrets held by the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics found on walls inside numerous tombs were
useless. The pictures were falsely believed to be symbolic, representing some sort of object or idea.
Something soon changed all of this misconception. 1799 was the year of a great breakthrough in
Egyptology. French troops, under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another man who devoted many years of his life to studying the stone was Jean Francois
Champollion. After many years of perseverance, Champollion finally translated the stone in 1822. He
accomplished this feat by first recognizing that hieroglyphs were not symbols, but instead were
associated with phonetics, as Thomas Young had proved. (Andrews 166) His first major breakthrough
in his studies was in 1808, when he resolved those fifteen signs of the demotic script related with
alphabetic letters from the Coptic language. From this he concluded that Coptic language must be
based on the remnants of the last of the ancient Egyptian language, and written with the Greek
alphabet, which is why it was readable to Champollion and other scholars researching the stone. Also,
that the hieroglyphic text was a translation of the Greek, not the reverse, as had been previously
believed. By 1818, Champollion had successfully concluded that though some signs were basically
ideograms, many of the glyphs had phonetic value, meaning the ancient Egyptian script was at least
partially alphabetic. (Giblin 83) He came to this conclusion after referring back to three other different
forms of Egyptian writing and also using Coptic as a reference. Recognizing the name Ptolemy and
Cleopatra in the Greek and demotic sections of the stone allowed him to identify those same names in
hieroglyphics. Still wondering, he didn t think that hieroglyphs were

The Great Depression Of The Twentieth Century
The Twentieth Century is a time period that is fundamentally characterized as a century of revolutions,
advancements and tragedies. Women rights and race equality lead by Dr. Martin Luther Kind Jr. were
among the many revolutions that fought for human equality. Technological advancements such as the
first airplane, the first car, the introduction of motion pictures, Internet and cell phones advanced
communication methods and helped the labour force through reproductive methods. Along side the
marvels that emerged out of the twentieth Century, horror and fear presented change too. The great
depression, World War I, World War II, the Holocaust, the collapse of the Stock Market and Nazi take
over and their establishment of concentration camps negatively impacted the outcome of the twentieth
century and changing urban form. Among the horror that erected in this time period, the communist
movement is often forgotten. The change in political platforms, inspired by the Theory of
Communism by Karl Marx was theoretically perfect. However when ____ (number of countries that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King
In paragraphs 12 14 King uses a combination of rhetorical strategies to argue the urgency for changing
current segregation laws. Kings selective use of imagery, parallel structure, and metaphors helps bring
out the emotions of the eight clergymen, making them feel sympathy and understand Martin Luther
King Jr.s point of view.
In paragraph 12,Martin Luther King Jr focuses on addressing the opposition s statement that the direct
action is untimely. King is pushing with great ordeal for the change of unjust segregation laws, even
though his peers suggest that this is not the time for such big a change. In the same paragraph people
questioned King, Why didn t you give the new city administration time to act? Of which he responded
to by using a bit of logic that if he doesn t put pressure on the new administration, then no one would
ever see any change. He says this because even though Mr.Connor is a nicer than Mr.Boutwell, both
are segregationists , which meant that any hopes of change would be unlikely unless acted upon by an
outside force. Later on, king builds his credibility by referencing Reinhold Niebuhr, a religious
individual and his ideas about how, groups tend to be more immoral than individuals. Niebuhr, being
an American theologian, ethicist, and public intellectual, backs up Kings main argument because
Mr.Niebuhr has such high levels of clout, that the clergymen are able to understand that the reason
king is preaching for social change is because the 8

They are often do not meet the requirements needed for hotels with 5, 4 and even 3 stars because of
their size but they don t inferior in quality of service by any means. The basic idea of boutique hotel is
a unique, one of a kind, high class accommodation for people with medium to high income that
provides exclusive services tailored for the target group of guests.
Ireland has a distinguished style that many people appreciate and enjoy called Celtic design. Any
room or apartment could be transformed by painting the walls certain shades of green, gray, black,
maroon and brown, decorating the interior with symbols of trees, Celtic knots and using such
materials as wool and wood. This style has a lot of fans among non Irish people and of course local
people as well. However, if we speak about hotels in Irish style, they are mostly targeted at foreigners
as Irish people are already surrounded by it from the moment of birth.
After analyzing the competition on the market of boutique hotels in Dublin, I came to the conclusion
that among existing accommodation establishments there are no boutique hotels in traditional Irish
style. This fact is a huge missed opportunity because, as it was already mentioned, Dublin welcomes
more than 4 million tourists from outside of Ireland which includes the United Kingdom, EU
countries, USA, Asian countries, South American countries and so on. Usually, when people are

It is defined as all that is morally excellent in the world. Throughout the text, Truth is given all

important in itself because if you live a truthful life you will go to heaven. So, if you look up to truth

Stop Poverty
Currently, our society is going through many issues but the biggest problem that needs to be stopped is
poverty. Poverty is easily the largest issue facing our world today. It kills thousands and thousands of
people every year. Not only are there adults but there are children out there starving and dying too. We
as a society have the power to end poverty right now but choose to spend that money towards other
mostly unnecessary things. One of the main reasons that so many people fall into poverty or stay in
poverty is because they are uneducated. Inequality affects everyone around the world but it is also a
huge cause of poverty. Inequality also makes it harder to find a way out of the hole that is poverty.
Lastly whether or not the child is born into poverty affects the rest of their life, if they can t find their
way out of poverty there whole life is set to not be as good as it should be and if they decide to have
kids they will be putting their children in the same situation.
121 million children are out of education and this needs to be changed now. One cannot expect a child
without the opportunity to learn to succeed in life. The amount of skill, education, experience, and
intelligence a child is sent out into the world with will determine where they end up. About a fifth or
22% of children growing up in poverty do not graduate. More than 1.3 billion people live on less than

The Ethics Of The English Marine Insurance System
1. Introduction
While in recent years, more and more self help motivational books or websites may be encouraging an
All or Nothing attitude towards life in general, one would indisputably agree that when an assured is
taking up a policy, in this context, a Marine Policy, one is trying to protect against risks of the
unknown, and definitely not signing up for a All or Nothing lottery game. However, two judgments in
the English Courts for rules on proximate causation, particularly cases with a combination of perils to
be considered, seemed to suggest the notion of Do you feel lucky today? thus raising doubts on the
justice of the rules on proximate causation in the English marine insurance system.
Hence, this paper aims to discuss in greater depth the reasoning and outcome of the two judgments i.e.
the judgment of the Court of Appeal in The Miss Jay Jay [1987] 1 Lloyd s Rep 32, and of the Supreme
Court judgment in The Cendor MOPU [2011] 1 Lloyd s Rep. 560, to see if they are an arguably
sufficient justification for the view that the English marine insurance system rules on proximate
causation should be repealed and replaced by a system similar to that used in the Nordic Marine
Insurance Plan.
2. Proximate Causation
2.1 Predominant or Efficient Cause
The concept of proximate causation has a critical role in Marine Insurance Law. A connection between
the covered perils and the loss is required to determine causation and therefore liability.

the story line in her book A Wrinkle in Time. From beginning to end Meg, Charles Wallace, and

In Today s, supermarkets, we have been spoilt with countless options of produce. Shopping in
supermarkets, consumers will find many stacks of foods labeled Organic . These foods has opened up
more opportunity for both the seller and the consumer, showing to be the highest emerging sectors of
the food industry in the past century, as another substitute to conventional foods that is seen in the
supermarket. Organic foods, has been shown to be the goods of a farming system which avoids the
exploitation of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, additives and growth promoters.
Regardless of the price, there is a rising market for organic food, even though the technique used has
made the price significantly higher then that of normal conventional foods. There are many questions
on why people would purchase organic over traditional foods, and it is apparent that the price does not
affect the demand of the food. But why is there a large demand of organic foods? Many research
studies regarding the organic techniques in producing food, is due to the benefits that arises from not
only consuming the organic product but also the environmental benefits in going all natural. Organic
food is label as healthy because it contains low pesticide residue. Furthermore, many consumers find
organic food healthier, better tasting and safer than traditional foods.
There is also a large positive environmental impact when creating these foods; therefore consumers

Methods Of Using Data Relationships And Computer Models
Analytics is the process of using data relationships and computer models to drive business value,
improve decision making and understand human relationships. If the Information Age began in the
1990s with the rise of digital technology, then we ve now officially entered the Age of Big Data,
wherein companies like Google, Facebook, IBM, Teradata, Oracle, and SAS have the capacity to
gather a lifetime s worth of data about customers and their behavior. But that data is just an
incomprehensible pile of numbers until a skilled analyst turns those numbers into meaningful
information, useful for making intelligent business decisions. Today, companies are searching for
experts in data analytics who have high formed business and technology backgrounds, and who
understand the importance of the latest data and Information Age trends. This requires more than
simple data analysis. Prescriptive analytics focuses on trends using simulation and optimization, while
predictive analytics uses statistical tools to predict the future, and descriptive analytics is concerned
with enabling smart decisions based on data. Data miners and data analytics experts who are versatile
in all three areas of analytics can help corporate executives translate their data into intelligent
information, which provides companies a competitive advantage and increases their bottom lines.
Analytics have made their presence felt in every industry, but they have a major role to play in the
sports industry and many teams

loss of short term memory and an inability to learn new skills. The person is usually disoriented, mat
present with delirium and hallucinations, and confabulates to conceal the condition. The cause of the
condition can often be traced to degenerative changes in the thalamus as a result of a deficiency of B
complex vitamins, especially thiamine and B12 . (Harris, P Nagy, S Vardaxis, N 2010).
Most readily known as alcohol related dementia, Korsakoff s syndrome is also known as Korsakoff s
psychosis and Wernicke Korsakoff s syndrome.
Korsakoff syndrome is a preventable memory disorder that usually emerges (although not always) in
the outcome of an episode of Wernicke s encephalopathy, therefore the chronic disorder is sometimes
known as Wernicke Korsakoff syndrome. Wernicke encephalopathy is an acute brain reaction to
severe lack of thiamine. Wernicke encephalopathy is a medical emergency that causes life threatening
brain disruption, confusion, staggering and stumbling, lack of coordination, and abnormal involuntary
eye movements.

U2 V. Negativland Summary
I think that the court s ruling should be overturned because I don t believe that Negativland violated
the copyright law by sampling from U2.
In the article entitled U2 Negativland the case from our side Negativland believes their work does not
violate copyright law. Negativland asserted, It was used for purposes of fair comment, parody, and
cultural criticism (151). In other words, Negativland s work was intended to make fun of U2 s song
entitled I still haven t found what i m looking for , which is protected under the fair use part of the
copyright law.
I agree because the artist named Weird Al Yankovic. He uses the instrumentals for a popular songs and
changes the lyrics to make fun of it. Yankovic has never been sued for his work because they are
parodies. Since Negativland made a parody of U2 s I still haven t found what I m looking for , they
should not be sued.
Negativland released their album with a huge title saying U2 and Negativland in a smaller font with an
image of the WW2 U 2 spy plane on it. U2 s label, Island Records, sued Negativland claiming that

Air Taxi Industry Case Study
1. Is the air taxi industry poised for take off? What customer segments are most likely to lead to
success?
I undoubtedly agree that the air taxi industry will find success, however, I do think that it may take a
couple more years for it to truly reach a point of full potential. This is largely due to the current
difficulties in building and maintaining a fleet of VLJ s. There is such a high demand for the Eclipse
500, the best VLJ currently on the market, which has worked very well to slow growth in this industry
space. When the development and manufacturing of these planes become more streamlined, I think it
will be easier for air taxi companies to build their fleet and expand into new regions within and
outside of the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though company s currently using charters may have the money to do so, all businesses are looking to
better their bottom line, and traveling using an air taxi is a definite way to save both time and money.
2. The airline industry is often considered an unattractive industry, with high variability of
performance and problems of overcapacity? Is the air taxi industry any different?
The air taxi industry is very different from the original airline industry. For Linear air at least, they
handle bookings on a per plane, per hour basis. This scheduling model helps to eliminate the problem
that commercial airlines have because there will be no planes flying for little to no reason. By this, I
mean that a lot of commercial flights end up flying with several empty seats or seats sold at a
discounted rate. With the high cost of flying a larger plane, when seats are empty or sold for less it is
almost not worth it to have that flight in the first place. For Linear air, charging on a per plane basis
allows them to ensure that no plane is flown without need. Along with this, the air taxi industry works
around customer need, and customers have the ability to book flights with shorter notice. This in turn,
however, means that a flight may not always be available but, does help to assist with overcapacity
issues. Specifically, for Herp and Linear Air, they are expanding their air taxi Capacity watchfully,
with only 960 revenue hours, per plane, per

Vimy Ridge is a notable moment because it brought world recognition, a strong sense of patriotism,
and became a nationalist symbol of achievement and sacrifice. It marks the first time a battle was

had the strength and ability to carry out a flawless attack of this size, in which they succeeded in April

Erechteinon On The Acropolis In Athens
I was impressed by Erechtheion, on the Acropolis in Athens. It was built between 421 B.C and 406
B.C. and repaired in 377/76 B.C to include cross walls. Later (7th A.D.) was converted into a
Christian church.
Mnesicles might be an architect of the structure, Phidias was employed as a sculptor. The building had
a religious function, and was meant to serve as a home for Athena (goddess of war and wisdom) and
Poseidon (god of sea, storm, earthquake, horses). There is also a belief that it was built to honor the
king Erechtheus (king of Athens). There is also another belief, that Erechteinon was a replacement of
the temple of Athena Polias.

other DVRs in 6.5 million US households, up from 1.9 million in 2002. That number, the firm claims,
will climb to almost 50 million by 2009, representing 41% of all US households. On another front, the
popularity of Netflix, an online subscription service boasting 3 million users, prompted both
Blockbuster and Wal Mart to offer similar services whereby people rent DVDs for an unlimited time

patrons skip the cinema experience and wait for those releases at home. Needless to say, given the
increase in entertainment options, the movie going experience needs to be far more compelling to
draw in audience members. Moreover, this challenge is not likely to subside, but rather grow more

Ichabod Crane Character Analysis
Ichabod Crane s adventure related in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow demonstrates where someone s
unchecked and undesirable personality traits can lead him. Washington Irving wrote The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself by
supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a lady s
love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Crane s character flaws scaring him out of town by
impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and fearfulness
resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the townspeople,
making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others indifferent to his
leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week at a time in his pupils
homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving 17). Moreover, he earned the
distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he
hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage occurred, many delicious meals would
await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious
winter fare, (Irving 20). Furthermore, Ichabod Crane s greed extended even to a love of power, which
he executed over his schoolhouse. For slovenly, naughty, or lazy children, he always had his whip

How To Achieve Homelessness In Canada
Something I would like to see changed in the Canadian public policy is to implement ways for all
Canadians to have sustainable housing. The government is for the people. Our country has more than
enough resources that none of its citizens should be without a home and homeless people should not
be viewed at or treated in another way than others. We are all human. Looking back at chapter 1 in
Staying Alive , epidemiologists were trying to convey the overall message that inequality is bad for
our health and that each individual must have the basic needs to survive. This relates back to the issue
of homelessness, as they are ones who do not have the basic needs to survive. The most commonly
used measure of inequality is that of income differences (Raphael, 2014, p.24). ... Show more content

In Favor of Marijuana Legalization Essay

My personal opinion in the argument of legalizing marijuana is that I really cannot see the harm in it.
This of course is a bold and naive statement. There is a lot of contributing factors into my bold and
naive statement that if understood will explain my callow view.
It is widely known that the Supreme Court voted in a 6 3 outcome against legalizing the use of
medical marijuana for glaucoma patients. The court ruled that ?medical necessity? is no defense to the
distribution or use of marijuana, which is classified as a ?Schedule I? drug under the Controlled

marijuana is too dangerous to be used. Is this true seeing how many of the government officials,
according to the statistics, have probably used it before. So is it not hypocritical for them to ban it of
use even for medical purposes? Cigarettes contain tobacco, and of course contain nicotine as well.
Nicotine is an alkaloid in the night shade plant family. ?It is named after the tobacco plant Nicotina

the main factors responsible for the dependence forming properties of tobacco smoking (Nicotine).?
Nicotine hardens the blood vessels and is responsible for heart disease. It is also responsible for cancer
in a lot of tobacco smokers and people influenced by second

Basic Training
It s four o clock in the afternoon and the sun is still shining bright in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. It is
hot outside, about 99 degrees. My heart is pounding with fear of the unknown. The bus stops and the
doors fold open. A soldier comes running up the bus stairs in a round brown hat screaming at the top

the bus, along with about twenty other new recruits. I have no idea what to expect but have heard the
horror stories about basic training and how much the Drill Sergeants yell and apparently this Drill
Sergeant has a set of lungs on him that could dwarf a bullhorn.

Private, He yells back at me. I start over and begin to count out loud, One Drill Sergeant, two Drill

know how I am going to be able to stand up when the devil finally allows me to.
To this day I do not know how I managed to surpass the physical limits I endured in those eight

Ambiguity In Dubious Battle
Ambiguity is defined as the quality of being open to more than one interpretation. In fiction, it leads
readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In Dubious
Battle exemplifies this. John Steinbeck ensures that every character, every conflict, and every theme
incorporates some form of ambiguity. Not only does this provoke the reader to think beyond the socio
economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions regarding the main
purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding the ambiguous nature
of the characters themselves. For example, it is never clear who the protagonist is due to the vague
nature of both Mac and Jim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doc perfectly characterizes this by suggesting that Mac is an actor (66). Mac, quickly rebuts by stating
that his speech has a kind of feel to it, to imply he does not try to do it (66). Nonetheless, by
implementing Mac within certain important scenes of the stories, Steinbeck always gives the
impression that Mac is the master orchestrator at every turn, and further showing that he would
sacrifice anyone to reach his ambitions. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in
order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual would
follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his ability
to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead behind the
scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he was the
central character to analyze and understand. This was the thought process that carries through until the
shift of balance in power between Mac and Jim. Mac s body and muscles shuddered, after he had
beaten the kid to send a message regarding tampering with the strike (214). He invokes violence once
again in order to rile up the workers, but this time, it struck something inside of him, leaving his face

After World War II, President Truman cited the end of the war to justify his defense cuts; however, the

Immediately following the Vietnam conflict, congress once again began defunding the military. The
end state of these specific cuts resulted in the United States pulling out of Saigon as communism
dominated the country. Additionally, the Soviets later invaded Afghanistan compelled to do so
possibly because of a perceived American distaste for foreign war. The election of Ronald Reagan was
instrumental in the recovery of this mistake as he implemented large increases in military
expenditures.
Task Force Smith Remembered
The Battle of Osan, also known as Task Force Smith, was the first American engagement of the
Korean War. On 25 June 1950, the North Korean People s Army dispatched an Army of 89,000
Soldiers into South Korea, devastating their entire force. (weaponsandwarfare.com) The North
Koreans took South Korean Soldiers, known as the Republic of Korea (ROK), by surprise as they

Essay On Team Work And Performance Management
Independent Contractors Team work and Performance Management
Many organizations are open to various ways of acquiring resources for their projects; using existing
employees, hiring new employees, hiring contract resources or perhaps outsource part or the entire
project. Right resources are not always available to the PM within the organization and will often look
to hire from outside. Moore (2007, p.6) informed that globalization, advances in communication and
technology, and many baby boomers entering retirement age are some of the reasons why
organizations do prefer to use independent contract resources especially for specific projects or certain
organizational challenges. A PM acquires team members for a project; builds and develops ... Show

❖ Excluded from accessing vital project information: Despite the fact that project managers want
hired contractors to work with other team members seamlessly, they do not want them to have certain
information because ideally they are not part of the team Barley Kunda (2004). This notion or action
could exclude independent resources from getting along well with the project team since they are
aware they are deliberately shut off or starved of necessary information to work with. ❖ Focussed on
their personal ambitions and may not be interested in team work: Hired independent contractors see
themselves as very valuable people due to the skills they possess and many of them have personal
ambitions on just delivering on what they were asked to do solely, not working as team to achieve
success together. Often times, they work alone to achieve results so they will remain relevant to the
project superior to others. Such actions hinder team building and diminish interdependence that is vital
in a cohesive and high performing team. There is less control of their activities and how they want it
done (Dunlap Girvin 2009, p.14) ❖ Envy from employees who think they earn less: Often times, hired
contractors earn far more than organization employees for same work they do on a project. Although
some company employees may not be ignorant of the reason why they earn more, they feel bad and
disheartened that they do

Transitions And Development Of Transition
Definition of transition In general, there is no one single definition of transition but transition can be
defined as a process of changes involving contexts, relationships, activities, culture, and view of self
and the world (Rosier McDonald, 2011). For young children and their family, transitions can be
defined as a process that includes all those involved in children s early years. Transition is also a
change event with time limit, continuity of experience and a multi layer, multi year process
(Petriwskyj, Thorpe, Tayler, 2005). It is widely recognized that transitions play important roles in
children s development, learning and lives (Brooker, 2008). Types of transition Basically, transitions
can be sorted out as two different types vertical transitions and horizontal transitions. Vertical
transitions refer to transitions across time between educational levels and settings such as from home
to child care centre, from centre to school and from toddler room to pre kinder room in the centre or
from year one to year two at school. Relative to horizontal transitions, vertical transitions are usually
long term changes. Horizontal transitions are short term transitions that involve transitions that are
across one point in time (Petriwskyj, Thorpe, Tayler, 2005). For instance, from school to home, from
home to grandparents house, and between different rooms at school are all types of horizontal
transition. Horizontal transitions can happen regularly in children s

Rise of the American Criminal Industry between 1900-1940
1900 A rise in crime levels as gangs grow stronger. Monk Eastman s Gang starts to pose a real threat
to Paul Kelly s Five Points Gang.
1907 Michael Cassius McDonald dies and leaves a criminal industry in Chicago in the hands of
opportunist gangsters coming in from all over the country.
1911 Mayer Lansky arrives in the U.S. and immediately starts to analyze conditions in the country
with regard to Italian crime families with the purpose of getting involved in their affairs.
1919 Al Capone leaves New York with the purpose of starting illegal businesses in Chicago. Luciano s
influence also solidified at this time, as the Volstead Act provided him with the perfect opportunity to
start an illegal business.
1920 Prohibition started in the U.S. and provided crime families with the opportunity to get involved
in particularly profitable affairs. John Colosimo, one of the most important gangsters in the U.S. is
killed the same year, most probably because of his reluctance to get involved in alcohol trafficking.
His death makes it possible for people to understand the full complexity of illegal affairs in the
country as numerous other gangsters and even politicians attend his funeral.
1921 Johnny Torrio, Chicago s crime boss, brings in Capone as his bodyguard.
1924 Torrio manages to set the foundation of one of the most successful bootlegging businesses in the
country. The Italian American gangster also manages to invest large amounts of money into gambling
and experiences

In Seymour, Basketball Is A Way Of Life
In Seymour, basketball for many people is a way of life. The Games are usually filled with a sea of
fans wearing red and white shirts jumping up and down screaming. Also now that Seymour had just
won the division 2 state championship 2002 and their 4th straight appearance at Madison. This was
only their fourth appearance and eventually made it to 8 straight Kohl center appearances. So many
people s problems are not pursuing in their dreams. If people followed in their dreams so many more
people would succeed. Seymour followed their dreams by making state 8 straight years in a row. From
the years 2003 to 2006 a lot of my surroundings were mostly basketball related. In those first four
years my life my obsession quickly began.
Then in 2011 when Seymour finally got back to state which was a familiar place for Seymour they
took on a pretty good Whitefish Bay team. There fans completely outnumbered our fans by maybe a
couple hundred fans. Whitefish Bay fans filled up over half the student section that they had. The
game had almost started and you could see the lights reflect off the shiny court. If you were for either
team s fans you could feel the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since I have started basketball I don t let nobody mess with my dreams or goals. I started my
basketball career in second grade. My first state experience was in fifth grade. We ended taking
second place. In sixth grade we won the state championship that was one of the greatest feelings so far
in my young life. Then in seventh grade we slipped a little bit and took fourth place. But this year in
8th grade we hope to take back first place because this is our last year of tournament basketball. This
is our last chance to win middle school state. The main thing is don t let people tell you what to do and
go after your goal. If you achieve more and don t let people mess with your dreams not many people

What I Learned From My Coat Of Arms
In my Coat of Arms, I revealed many things about myself. In the first box in the center, I drew
something that I will never give up. In my opinion family and God are the most valuable thing a
person could have and this applies to me. I would never trade God and Family for anything else
because they shaped who I am. Ever since I was born, my parents have been sacrificing their own
interests for mine. They provided me with everything that I need and some things that I want. They
decided to invest in my future by letting me go to SM when instead, I could attend a public High
School. In my picture, I drew my family with my parents and my sister. I put a Circle around my
family symbolizing God watching over us. The color I used for this box and many other boxes is blue
because it s one of my favorite colors and it s not invasive enough to cover up my message. In my
second box, I drew something that I think represents an important lesson I learned from people.
Before this school year, I didn t really pay attention to the balance with things and people. I usually
focused on the result that I want to achieve but not the process with other people. After meeting kids
from all around the world in a summer camp, I found out that balance with others is more important
than the result. Through the friend I met, I learned the importance of keeping a balance with people
around you. I think a Yin Yang best symbolizes the lesson I learned showing the seeking of balance
and moderation. As

Many language theorists have labeled various stages of language development. Most often these
stages are labeled babbling, jargoning, one word utterances, two word utterances, and all hell breaks
loose (Cole and Cole, Pinker, and Burling). During the babbling stage, children are learning how to
Language Development 4 produce the sounds that make up language, a process that Pinker feels is a
prerequisite for language development. Jargoning appears around 12 months, and is described as the
vocalization of syllable strings that sound similar to the language to which the child is exposed (Cole
and Cole). One word utterances or holo phrases are sometimes believed to stand for phrases or
sentences (Cole and Cole). At 18 months, language development is quickly developing; children are
increasing their vocabulary at a phenomenal rate of a new word every two hours (Pinker). As two or
three word utterances emerge these micro sentences already reflect the language being acquired: in
ninety five percent of them, the words are properly ordered (Pinker, 268). As Pinker s term the all hell
breaks loose stage suggest this stage is when children rapidly acquire vocabulary and grammar.

Physical Beauty Vs Inner Beauty
Beauty can be defined in multiple diverse ways. To each person beauty is perceived in their own way.
Beauty can be broken down into two categories: physical beauty and inner beauty. Physical beauty is
the appearance of an individual. Society today has placed physical beauty on a very high pedestal.
Now teenagers focus so much of their lives trying to be physically beautiful to amount to what the
world or society says they should be, instead of focusing on their inner beauty. Inner beauty is the
attitude or personality of an individual. Inner beauty has been pushed to the curb so that one may
reach their full potential of physical beauty. To some individuals, physical beauty may be more
important, but to others inner beauty becomes the standard of being beautiful. Although physical
beauty and inner beauty may seem similar they are in fact quite different in ways such as the
definition, qualities, and effects on society. The definition of beauty varies from person to person.
Dictionary.com defines beauty as, the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or
deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound,
etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual
qualities are manifest). This definition may also help an individual understand that there are two types
of beauty, physical beauty and inner beauty. Some individuals may not realize that there

Compare and contrast the representation of the man with no name in A Fistful of Dollars and William
Munney in Unforgiven . Do we have sympathy with these re worked heroes? Your answer should
include reference to film language, especially the use of generic conventions and iconography. The
Western genre is an extremely important film type as some of the world s most revolutionary
productions originated from the ideas that Western films portrayed, such as, Star Wars. They represent
honour, courage, good and bad along with many other important themes. This essay will discuss the

Even though he was heavily out numbered he managed to defeat all of his rivals including Little Bill
with only one bullet left in his gun, this shows true courage and determination. In both films the man
with no name and William Munney give a very tough impression which are symbolised by certain
objects. The man with no name uses his poncho, which broadens him making him look larger and
more intimidating and chews tobacco to make himself look even harder. William Munney does not
have a certain object that makes him look tough perhaps from his hat, which disguises a majority of
his face and his long coat this signals his change back to a ruthless killer. The director uses low angle
camera shots to give the impression that he looks down on people and uses his superiority to daunt
people, this occurs in the final scene when he stands over Little Bill just before he shots him. Even
with their tough persona they are actually kind at heart and they show this when the man with no name
helps a family escape from danger and William Munny protects the Scholfield Kid. Their tough guy
image is dented when both are brutally assaulted by different groups of men, the man with no name is
attacked by the rival family of the family he helped escape and William Munney by Little Bill and his
gang. They both remained emotionless

How Did Mikhail Gorbachev Modernize The Soviet Union
Mikhail Gorbachev was the seventh and final President, the last Head of State, and the last General
Secretary of the Soviet Union and also the final Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.
Gorbachev tried to introduce new economic, social and political reforms to the Soviet Union. These
reforms were very different to those current in place from the Communism ideals. Although Mikhail
Gorbachev didn t intend to cause the collapse the Soviet Union, the attempts he made to strengthen
and modernise the Soviet Union ultimately lead to its downfall. As communism and central power was
the basis that held together the Soviet Union, Gorbachev s Perestroika acted against these factors
causing the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Communism was introduced in Russia in 1917 following the Russian Revolution and the takeover of
Vladimir Lenin and the Bolshevik party. They introduced a Union of Soviet Republics based on
communism, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gorbachev changed the Soviet foreign policies and began to travel around to other nations easing
tensions and assuring that the Soviet Union is not a threat any longer, the changes to the foreign policy
led to the democratization of much of Eastern Europe and ultimately ending the Cold War. However
these changes in foreign policies removed ideological enemies causing a weakness in the Soviet
ideology over the people. Gorbachev did not believe in using force to strengthen his control, this was
also a major downfall as the republics nationalism began to increase weakening the Soviet Union.
With Gorbachev s methods of easing tensions and assuring foreign nations that the USSR is no longer
a threat, the people no longer feared the government, fear is essential to controlling people in a
communist society, this further decreased the power of the

The World Is Flat !, By Thomas L. Friedman
When using Chanel s cosmetics, when drinking Danone yogurt with breakfast, when driving Ford
motor the way home, global brands which are highly visible symbol of the increasing integration of
world market, could been discovered around everywhere. As Thomas L. Friedman (2005) states,
World is flat! , which means world is being shrunk by the spreading of globalisation.
Globalisation, a result of social development, can be described as the increase in cross broader trade
and influence on the economic and social behaviour of nation states (David Begg, 2003:272). This
process has affected the world widely and deeply, principally in economics, industrial, technological,
political and cultural aspects.
Over the past decade, as the liberalization of national and openness of global markets, globalisation
has benefitted the world significantly, such as income improved, increase of imports and exports,
industrial development, thus, free flow of trade, capital and information have produced the best
outcome for growth and human welfare. Therefore, it is little doubt that globalisation has positive
impact on developed and developing countries. When it comes to China, ever since it formally joined
WTO, great benefits has been gained from the international trade while a huge boost to the
collaboration with other countries.
The issue of globalisation in China, including demonstrating why globalisation is beneficial for China,
the status quo situation of globalisation in China, and the

  • 2. Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1 The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies. Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation. Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence. During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight against the British and return home. General George Washington wanted to encourage his troops to remain strong in their fight. In order to do this, General Washington had Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1. read to his soldiers. • 4. Examples Of Colonialism In The Last Of The Mohicans Kailee Piacenti Mrs. Gray British Literature 24 October 2017 The Last of the Mohicans: A Tale of Romance and Racism Falling in love has been a common theme of literature since people first started writing. The romantic era of literature was from the late 1700 s to the mid 1800 s. James Fenimore Cooper s The Last of the Mohicans was written at the peak of this era in 1826. Many have critiqued Cooper s writing style, but few have critiqued his content due to it being so controversial. Cooper uses the romance between the characters, Cora and Uncas, to cover racial stereotypes and inequalities throughout The Last of the Mohicans. The Last of the Mohicans was written by James Fenimore Cooper in 1826, during the romanticism era of literature. The book is set in 1757, therefore taking place during a time of colonialism. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Colonialism is a practice of domination, which involves the subjugation of one people to another (Kohn and Reddy 1) In Cooper s novel, colonialism is present by the Native Americans being colonized by European Americans. Throughout the book, Cooper constantly compares European Americans and Native Americans, different tactics and behaviors. ( The Last 2). As was common in the 19th century, The Last of the Mohicans was published in two volumes (Scalia 1). This book was the second book of Cooper s Leatherstocking Tales and was the most widely read of any of the novels of James Fenimore Cooper for more than a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Like any style of music, hip hop has roots in other forms, and its evolution was shaped by many different artists, but there s a case to be made that it came to life precisely on this day, August 11, 1973, in the west Bronx, New York City. Clive Campbell better known to history as DJ Kool Herc, founding father of hip hop. Born and raised to the age of 10 in Kingston, Jamaica, DJ Kool Herc began spinning records at parties and between sets his father s band played while he was a teenager in the Bronx in the early 1970s. Herc often emulated the style of Jamaican selectors (DJs) by toasting (i.e., talking) over the records he spun, but his historical significance has nothing to do with rapping. Kool Herc s contribution to hip hop was even more fundamental. • 6. Go Ask Alice By An Anonymous Teenage Girl The novel Go Ask Alice, written by an anonymous teenage girl, consists of her thoughts, musings, and feelings throughout her ever worsening battle with drugs. Before the life altering party that introduced her to this life of addiction, Alice was a typical teenage girl who faced the fears and unknown of moving to a new town and school, feelings of nonacceptance from her friends and peers, body issues, and pressure from her parents. The argument can be made that one of the many roots of Alice s worsening habit is mainly her relationship with her mother and father; however, once Alice has left her family in search of her next high and life on her own, she began to long for them once again. Although she ran away from her life and family twice, each time Alice was accepted home with loving, caring arms. So while her parents may have played a role in her delving into the life of drugs to escape her woes, they could also be considered one of her potentially saving graces toward the end of the novel. However, no matter the amount of effort Alice or her family put forth into her recovery, the drugs ultimately won the battle for Alice s life. At the beginning of the novel, before Alice attended the fateful party that changed her world forever, she did not fully see her parents affection toward her; she was caught up in her teenage world of guys and heartbreak, leading her to misinterpret how her parents only had her best interests in mind. • 8. Leadership Opportunities Of The Youth Association Pee Wee... Leadership opportunities abound not only in the work setting, but in churches, communities, and neighborhoods as well. By taking on community leadership roles, individuals give back to the community and gain valuable experience that will serve them well in the workplace. In my own experience, I led the Chantilly Youth Association Pee Wee Soccer program for three years. In this capacity, I created schedules, reserved fields and gyms, ordered uniforms, arranged for the training of officials, collected money, and created teams for over 500 young children. I had a vision for the program and helped it grow. While Pee Wee Soccer is not rooted in a faith filled tradition, faith based leadership skills apply. Running such a large program affords the opportunity to teach as Jesus did, at least with respect to community and service, and gain valuable insight into organizational behavior. Perhaps the most essential lesson learned is that to be successful, it is important to consider the needs of everyone involved, and not merely the needs of a few. Catholic School Leadership The skills gained through Pee Wee Soccer prepared me well for the leadership roles I undertook in my early years as a Catholic school teacher. Whether in the role as Math Committee chairperson or as leader of the Word Study program, developing a vision, articulating that vision, and seeing it through to completion helped me gain support from my peers and colleagues as I took on more responsibility and further ... • 9. The Rosetta Stone Essay The Rosetta Stone In 1799, when Napoleon s army was dismantling a wall in Rashid, Egypt, they discovered the Rosetta Stone. Little did they know that this 11 inch thick piece of rock would be one of the greatest discoveries in history! It contained Egyptian scripture, with Greek also on the stone. This was used to decode the once lost Egyptian writing system. Before the 1800 s, attempts at trying to uncover the secrets held by the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics found on walls inside numerous tombs were useless. The pictures were falsely believed to be symbolic, representing some sort of object or idea. Something soon changed all of this misconception. 1799 was the year of a great breakthrough in Egyptology. French troops, under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another man who devoted many years of his life to studying the stone was Jean Francois Champollion. After many years of perseverance, Champollion finally translated the stone in 1822. He accomplished this feat by first recognizing that hieroglyphs were not symbols, but instead were associated with phonetics, as Thomas Young had proved. (Andrews 166) His first major breakthrough in his studies was in 1808, when he resolved those fifteen signs of the demotic script related with alphabetic letters from the Coptic language. From this he concluded that Coptic language must be based on the remnants of the last of the ancient Egyptian language, and written with the Greek alphabet, which is why it was readable to Champollion and other scholars researching the stone. Also, that the hieroglyphic text was a translation of the Greek, not the reverse, as had been previously believed. By 1818, Champollion had successfully concluded that though some signs were basically ideograms, many of the glyphs had phonetic value, meaning the ancient Egyptian script was at least partially alphabetic. (Giblin 83) He came to this conclusion after referring back to three other different forms of Egyptian writing and also using Coptic as a reference. Recognizing the name Ptolemy and Cleopatra in the Greek and demotic sections of the stone allowed him to identify those same names in hieroglyphics. Women rights and race equality lead by Dr. Martin Luther Kind Jr. were among the many revolutions that fought for human equality. Technological advancements such as the first airplane, the first car, the introduction of motion pictures, Internet and cell phones advanced communication methods and helped the labour force through reproductive methods. The great depression, World War I, World War II, the Holocaust, the collapse of the Stock Market and Nazi take over and their establishment of concentration camps negatively impacted the outcome of the twentieth century and changing urban form. • 12. Rhetorical Analysis Of Martin Luther King In paragraphs 12 14 King uses a combination of rhetorical strategies to argue the urgency for changing current segregation laws. Kings selective use of imagery, parallel structure, and metaphors helps bring out the emotions of the eight clergymen, making them feel sympathy and understand Martin Luther King Jr.s point of view. In paragraph 12,Martin Luther King Jr focuses on addressing the opposition s statement that the direct action is untimely. King is pushing with great ordeal for the change of unjust segregation laws, even though his peers suggest that this is not the time for such big a change. In the same paragraph people questioned King, Why didn t you give the new city administration time to act? Of which he responded to by using a bit of logic that if he doesn t put pressure on the new administration, then no one would ever see any change. He says this because even though Mr.Connor is a nicer than Mr.Boutwell, both are segregationists , which meant that any hopes of change would be unlikely unless acted upon by an outside force. Later on, king builds his credibility by referencing Reinhold Niebuhr, a religious individual and his ideas about how, groups tend to be more immoral than individuals. Niebuhr, being an American theologian, ethicist, and public intellectual, backs up Kings main argument because Mr.Niebuhr has such high levels of clout, that the clergymen are able to understand that the reason king is preaching for social change is because the 8 ... Ireland has a distinguished style that many people appreciate and enjoy called Celtic design. Any room or apartment could be transformed by painting the walls certain shades of green, gray, black, maroon and brown, decorating the interior with symbols of trees, Celtic knots and using such materials as wool and wood. After analyzing the competition on the market of boutique hotels in Dublin, I came to the conclusion that among existing accommodation establishments there are no boutique hotels in traditional Irish style. It kills thousands and thousands of people every year. Not only are there adults but there are children out there starving and dying too. We as a society have the power to end poverty right now but choose to spend that money towards other mostly unnecessary things. One of the main reasons that so many people fall into poverty or stay in poverty is because they are uneducated. Inequality affects everyone around the world but it is also a huge cause of poverty. Inequality also makes it harder to find a way out of the hole that is poverty. Lastly whether or not the child is born into poverty affects the rest of their life, if they can t find their way out of poverty there whole life is set to not be as good as it should be and if they decide to have kids they will be putting their children in the same situation. 121 million children are out of education and this needs to be changed now. Introduction While in recent years, more and more self help motivational books or websites may be encouraging an All or Nothing attitude towards life in general, one would indisputably agree that when an assured is taking up a policy, in this context, a Marine Policy, one is trying to protect against risks of the unknown, and definitely not signing up for a All or Nothing lottery game. However, two judgments in the English Courts for rules on proximate causation, particularly cases with a combination of perils to be considered, seemed to suggest the notion of Do you feel lucky today? thus raising doubts on the justice of the rules on proximate causation in the English marine insurance system. Hence, this paper aims to discuss in greater depth the reasoning and outcome of the two judgments i.e. the judgment of the Court of Appeal in The Miss Jay Jay [1987] 1 Lloyd s Rep 32, and of the Supreme Court judgment in The Cendor MOPU [2011] 1 Lloyd s Rep. 560, to see if they are an arguably sufficient justification for the view that the English marine insurance system rules on proximate causation should be repealed and replaced by a system similar to that used in the Nordic Marine Insurance Plan. 2. The three are intertwined naturally, and work well within the science fiction twist of this very unbelievable fantasy tale. The main character Meg Murry is the perfect innocent child turned into a hero. The beginning of the story presents a 13 year old Meg as young, and constantly wallowing in self pity. With only these gifts, and each other to lean on, the children now begin to test their limits as they are forced to rely on their own thoughts and decisions in search for Mr. Murry. Throughout the book Madeleine L Engle uses personified objects to bring the story to life. On the planet Uriel creatures like the one Mrs. Whatsit had become were making music, music that came not only from their throats but from the movements of their great wings as well. Methods Of Using Data Relationships And Computer Models Analytics is the process of using data relationships and computer models to drive business value, improve decision making and understand human relationships. If the Information Age began in the 1990s with the rise of digital technology, then we ve now officially entered the Age of Big Data, wherein companies like Google, Facebook, IBM, Teradata, Oracle, and SAS have the capacity to gather a lifetime s worth of data about customers and their behavior. But that data is just an incomprehensible pile of numbers until a skilled analyst turns those numbers into meaningful information, useful for making intelligent business decisions. Today, companies are searching for experts in data analytics who have high formed business and technology backgrounds, and who understand the importance of the latest data and Information Age trends. This requires more than simple data analysis. Prescriptive analytics focuses on trends using simulation and optimization, while predictive analytics uses statistical tools to predict the future, and descriptive analytics is concerned with enabling smart decisions based on data. Data miners and data analytics experts who are versatile in all three areas of analytics can help corporate executives translate their data into intelligent information, which provides companies a competitive advantage and increases their bottom lines. I undoubtedly agree that the air taxi industry will find success, however, I do think that it may take a couple more years for it to truly reach a point of full potential. This is largely due to the current difficulties in building and maintaining a fleet of VLJ s. There is such a high demand for the Eclipse 500, the best VLJ currently on the market, which has worked very well to slow growth in this industry space. When the development and manufacturing of these planes become more streamlined, I think it will be easier for air taxi companies to build their fleet and expand into new regions within and outside of the United States. ... The airline industry is often considered an unattractive industry, with high variability of performance and problems of overcapacity? Is the air taxi industry any different? The air taxi industry is very different from the original airline industry. For Linear air at least, they handle bookings on a per plane, per hour basis. This scheduling model helps to eliminate the problem that commercial airlines have because there will be no planes flying for little to no reason. By this, I mean that a lot of commercial flights end up flying with several empty seats or seats sold at a discounted rate. With the high cost of flying a larger plane, when seats are empty or sold for less it is almost not worth it to have that flight in the first place. For Linear air, charging on a per plane basis allows them to ensure that no plane is flown without need. Along with this, the air taxi industry works around customer need, and customers have the ability to book flights with shorter notice. This in turn, however, means that a flight may not always be available but, does help to assist with overcapacity issues. Specifically, for Herp and Linear Air, they are expanding their air taxi Capacity watchfully, with only 960 revenue hours, per plane, per ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Washington Irving wrote The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in 1820. The story describes how Ichabod Crane persistently frightened himself by supposing he saw and heard supernatural beings. When Crane competed with Brom Bones for a lady s love, Bones took advantage of Ichabod Crane s character flaws scaring him out of town by impersonating the dreaded Headless Horseman. Ichabod Crane s greed, superstition, and fearfulness resulted in his downfall. Ichabod Crane s greed hindered his relationship with the townspeople, making some, such as Brom Bones, pleased to expel Crane from town, and others indifferent to his leaving. Crane had a great gluttonous appetite, so he lived successively a week at a time in his pupils homes because they could not afford to house such a gourmand (Irving 17). Moreover, he earned the distaste of the town s other men while trying to earn the affections of Katrina Van Tassel, whom he hoped to marry because of her wealth. He knew if the marriage occurred, many delicious meals would await him. The pedagogue s mouth watered as he looked upon this sumptuous promise of luxurious winter fare, (Irving 20). In fiction, it leads readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In Dubious Battle exemplifies this. Not only does this provoke the reader to think beyond the socio economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions regarding the main purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding the ambiguous nature of the characters themselves. For example, it is never clear who the protagonist is due to the vague nature of both Mac and Jim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doc perfectly characterizes this by suggesting that Mac is an actor (66). Mac, quickly rebuts by stating that his speech has a kind of feel to it, to imply he does not try to do it (66). Nonetheless, by implementing Mac within certain important scenes of the stories, Steinbeck always gives the impression that Mac is the master orchestrator at every turn, and further showing that he would sacrifice anyone to reach his ambitions. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual would follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his ability to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead behind the scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he was the central character to analyze and understand. This was the thought process that carries through until the shift of balance in power between Mac and Jim. Mac s body and muscles shuddered, after he had beaten the kid to send a message regarding tampering with the strike (214). He invokes violence once again in order to rile up the workers, but this time, it struck something inside of him, leaving his face pale and grey (214). • 41. Post World War II Size On Monday, 24 February 2014, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced massive cuts to the size of the armed services, slashing the army to its pre World War II size. (breithbart.com) Hagel s plan called for a 25% reduction in manpower by 2019. Historically, these cuts equate to a perceived failure of will power of the American government by its global enemies. Such cuts are sure to decrease the readiness posture of fighting units across the military. First order effects from cuts to funding equate to poorly maintained equipment, reduced personnel readiness, as well as fewer opportunities for professional military educational type schools. (breithbart.com) This unwillingness to fund defense led both Hitler and the Japanese to believe they could make war on the United States with any repercussion. After World War II, President Truman cited the end of the war to justify his defense cuts; however, the Korean War began, arguably, because of the large scale military cuts, which encouraged the Soviets and Chinese Communists toward aggression on the Korean peninsula. As a result, government officials increased the defense budget from $9.1 billion to just under $53. Immediately following the Vietnam conflict, congress once again began defunding the military. The end state of these specific cuts resulted in the United States pulling out of Saigon as communism dominated the country. Additionally, the Soviets later invaded Afghanistan compelled to do so possibly because of a perceived American distaste for foreign war. The election of Ronald Reagan was instrumental in the recovery of this mistake as he implemented large increases in military expenditures. Essay On Team Work And Performance Management Independent Contractors Team work and Performance Management Many organizations are open to various ways of acquiring resources for their projects; using existing employees, hiring new employees, hiring contract resources or perhaps outsource part or the entire project. Right resources are not always available to the PM within the organization and will often look to hire from outside. Moore (2007, p.6) informed that globalization, advances in communication and technology, and many baby boomers entering retirement age are some of the reasons why organizations do prefer to use independent contract resources especially for specific projects or certain organizational challenges. This notion or action could exclude independent resources from getting along well with the project team since they are aware they are deliberately shut off or starved of necessary information to work with. ❖ Focussed on their personal ambitions and may not be interested in team work: Hired independent contractors see themselves as very valuable people due to the skills they possess and many of them have personal ambitions on just delivering on what they were asked to do solely, not working as team to achieve success together. Often times, they work alone to achieve results so they will remain relevant to the project superior to others. Such actions hinder team building and diminish interdependence that is vital in a cohesive and high performing team. There is less control of their activities and how they want it done (Dunlap Girvin 2009, p.14) ❖ Envy from employees who think they earn less: Often times, hired contractors earn far more than organization employees for same work they do on a project. • 43. Transitions And Development Of Transition Definition of transition In general, there is no one single definition of transition but transition can be defined as a process of changes involving contexts, relationships, activities, culture, and view of self and the world (Rosier McDonald, 2011). For young children and their family, transitions can be defined as a process that includes all those involved in children s early years. Transition is also a change event with time limit, continuity of experience and a multi layer, multi year process (Petriwskyj, Thorpe, Tayler, 2005). It is widely recognized that transitions play important roles in children s development, learning and lives (Brooker, 2008). Types of transition Basically, transitions can be sorted out as two different types vertical transitions and horizontal transitions. Vertical transitions refer to transitions across time between educational levels and settings such as from home to child care centre, from centre to school and from toddler room to pre kinder room in the centre or from year one to year two at school. Relative to horizontal transitions, vertical transitions are usually long term changes. Horizontal transitions are short term transitions that involve transitions that are across one point in time (Petriwskyj, Thorpe, Tayler, 2005). For instance, from school to home, from home to grandparents house, and between different rooms at school are all types of horizontal transition. Horizontal transitions can happen regularly in children s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In my opinion family and God are the most valuable thing a person could have and this applies to me. I would never trade God and Family for anything else because they shaped who I am. Ever since I was born, my parents have been sacrificing their own interests for mine. They provided me with everything that I need and some things that I want. They decided to invest in my future by letting me go to SM when instead, I could attend a public High School. In my picture, I drew my family with my parents and my sister. I put a Circle around my family symbolizing God watching over us. The color I used for this box and many other boxes is blue because it s one of my favorite colors and it s not invasive enough to cover up my message. In my second box, I drew something that I think represents an important lesson I learned from people. Before this school year, I didn t really pay attention to the balance with things and people. I usually focused on the result that I want to achieve but not the process with other people. After meeting kids from all around the world in a summer camp, I found out that balance with others is more important than the result. Through the friend I met, I learned the importance of keeping a balance with people around you. I think a Yin Yang best symbolizes the lesson I learned showing the seeking of balance and moderation. Many language theorists have labeled various stages of language development. During the babbling stage, children are learning how to Language Development 4 produce the sounds that make up language, a process that Pinker feels is a prerequisite for language development. Jargoning appears around 12 months, and is described as the vocalization of syllable strings that sound similar to the language to which the child is exposed (Cole and Cole). One word utterances or holo phrases are sometimes believed to stand for phrases or sentences (Cole and Cole). At 18 months, language development is quickly developing; children are increasing their vocabulary at a phenomenal rate of a new word every two hours (Pinker). As two or three word utterances emerge these micro sentences already reflect the language being acquired: in ninety five percent of them, the words are properly ordered (Pinker, 268). As Pinker s term the all hell breaks loose stage suggest this stage is when children rapidly acquire vocabulary and grammar. Between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Physical Beauty Vs Inner Beauty Beauty can be defined in multiple diverse ways. To each person beauty is perceived in their own way. Beauty can be broken down into two categories: physical beauty and inner beauty. Physical beauty is the appearance of an individual. Society today has placed physical beauty on a very high pedestal. Now teenagers focus so much of their lives trying to be physically beautiful to amount to what the world or society says they should be, instead of focusing on their inner beauty. Inner beauty is the attitude or personality of an individual. Inner beauty has been pushed to the curb so that one may reach their full potential of physical beauty. To some individuals, physical beauty may be more important, but to others inner beauty becomes the standard of being beautiful. Although physical beauty and inner beauty may seem similar they are in fact quite different in ways such as the definition, qualities, and effects on society. The definition of beauty varies from person to person. Dictionary.com defines beauty as, the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest). In both films the man with no name and William Munney give a very tough impression which are symbolised by certain objects. The man with no name uses his poncho, which broadens him making him look larger and more intimidating and chews tobacco to make himself look even harder. William Munney does not have a certain object that makes him look tough perhaps from his hat, which disguises a majority of his face and his long coat this signals his change back to a ruthless killer. The director uses low angle camera shots to give the impression that he looks down on people and uses his superiority to daunt people, this occurs in the final scene when he stands over Little Bill just before he shots him. As Thomas L. Friedman (2005) states, World is flat! , which means world is being shrunk by the spreading of globalisation. Globalisation, a result of social development, can be described as the increase in cross broader trade and influence on the economic and social behaviour of nation states (David Begg, 2003:272). This process has affected the world widely and deeply, principally in economics, industrial, technological, political and cultural aspects. Over the past decade, as the liberalization of national and openness of global markets, globalisation has benefitted the world significantly, such as income improved, increase of imports and exports, industrial development, thus, free flow of trade, capital and information have produced the best outcome for growth and human welfare.
