Character Analysis Of Victor In The 1998 Native American...
Victor in the 1998 Native American film Smoke Signals , was a major and dynamic character. The
entire film revolved around Victor and the past and present relationship with his father. Victor helped
develop the theme of the story which was to forgive others. Victor changing from an angry Native
American teen, to a happy and forgiving young man, was a huge and dynamic character change. A
dynamic character is character who goes through an important inner change in their personality or
attitude. Tomas, a lifelong friend of Victor s, was a character who didn t change and never really
needed to change. Tomas was a happy, Native teen who found the good n everyone. One could argue
that Victor could be a protagonist to Tomas. Victor changed his personality and attitude positively
towards life along his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two met after Victor s father left Coeur D Alene Indian Reservation. They lived in the same trailer
park and Suzy was quite fond of Victor s father. Suzy also saw the good in Victor s father and this
infuriated Victor. Victor saw his father as a drunk who abandoned his family. Suzy told Victor stories
of his father that guided him to see the good in his father and start to forgive. Victor is very well
rounded character throughout the story. Victor was very kind to his mother. He knew that she wanted
the best for him, and Victor felt bad that she had to go through the same situation with his father. This
was the good side of Victor, it showed the caring and kind young man that he could be. Victor was not
very kind to Tomas. Tomas was an awkward teen that just wanted to be friends with Victor. Victor
thought Tomas was annoying and childish. Victor even told Tomas as a young child, What color were
your parents when they were burned? (Smoke). This showed the angry and unpleasant side of Victor.
Victor was also confused. This was shown when he ran as a child and as a teenager. Victor would run

The Red Pyramid Cultural Differences
Egyptian culture is quite different from mine; on the other hand, there are some similarities between
the two. The book which I am comparing and contrasting is The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. This
fiction book is about two kids that are my age named Carter and Sadie. The want to live a normal life
but their Egyptian ancestry makes it a little difficult. They Learn that their ancestors were pharaohs,
and they have royal blood. They have to go on a journey to defeat the god of chaos. They must learn
about Egyptian culture and some magic! Throughout this essay I am going to go through various
topics and aspects dealing with the two cultures and comparing and contrasting them. In my opinion
the biggest differences between the Egyptian and my culture is probably religion. First off Sadie and
Carter are polytheistic. This means they believe in more than on god. I on the other hand an
monotheistic. I am catholic so I believe in one god. I believe that god created everything on his own.
The Egyptian mythology explanation for the world is So the sky goddess Nut was married to the earth
god Geb...Geb and Nut wanted to have kids, but the kind of gods, Ra He was the sun god and he
forbade a child to be born on any day or night of the year... (Riordan, 101). She ended up having five
kids who all became gods. In my religion I believe that God one day one, God created heaven and
earth, day two he created the sky and sea, day three God created land and vegetation, day four, the

LACE DRESSES
Which one of you brides has always wanted and dreamt of having a lace dress? This blog post is going
to inform you on everything you need to know about finding your perfect lace dress. All fabrics that
wedding dresses use are all beautiful, but none of them come close to how romantic and historical lace
is.
Back in history, when a bride would wear lace at her wedding, this demonstrated the wealth of your
family and prosperity. It would tell everyone that you came from a wealthy family and that you could
afford to get married in a lace wedding dress. Things have changed since then, and that is not what
people think of when they attend a wedding. Now you see more lace on a dining room table or in the
house, but you do not see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you don t want to get a long dress with a cathedral train, then don t. Do what you want to do
because when it comes down to it, this day will be all about you. If you have always pictured yourself
in a short, playful wedding dress, then try and find what you have always envisioned. Trust me, there
are some short wedding dresses that are to die for, you may just have to look a little bit harder. Some
of the reasons why brides may choose a short wedding dress over a long and traditional dress is if the
wedding is more informal, on a beach, at a court house, a summer/spring wedding, or even if the bride
just wants to be different!
Short wedding dresses are also becoming very popular for brides that want to have two different
dresses for their big day. They will a formal and elegant dress for their ceremony and then at some
point during their reception, they will switch into a more playful and sexy short dress.

Summary Of The Passionate Shepherd To His Love
The Seducing Shepherd
The Passionate Shepherd to His Love poem is a poem that portrays the basic romanticism of the
country living which describes the nature of the environments and is very sentimental. Christopher
Marlowe s poem is showing the best fantasy of ordinary romance that would be much better felt in the
countryside other than the urban side of the country. Nature is of the essence. The Nymph s Reply to
the Shepherd poem, on the other hand, is based on how he perceives The Passionate Shepherd to His
Love. Raleigh has a different perception of the nature romantics; he presents a contrast in his poem.

On to the third stanza of The Passionate Shepherd to His Love , Marlowe highly speaks of how he is
going to spoil his love with materialistic offers and gifts, the roses on the bed, which will be anointed
by the sweet smelling fragrances. The outfit Marlowe will give to his love will be gifted and will have
been made from the wool and be of the most exquisite wool. It will also be decorated with leaves and
will have shoes that have been covered with golden buckles, as well as her belt. In the first line of the
third stanza, Marlowe is expressing his offers saying, And I will make the bed of Roses, the second

they will come to wither, get old and soon be forgotten. Nymph reminds the passionate shepherd that

The Wonderful World Of Disney

October 2nd 2015
Welcome to the most wonderful racist world of Disney The wonderful world of Disney is synonymous
with fairy tales, adventure, and happily ever after. Disney makes dreams come true and makes us wish
upon a star. And apart from its entertaining purposes, the world of Disney is a learning medium in
which kids can learn about ethics, values and self image. The world of Disney over time has become a
persuasive form in which children can learn about the world around them. However, The world of
Disney teaches messages to children that exceed the boundaries of childhood culture. Many of Disney
movies and television shows portray people of color in stereotypical fashion and its attempt in
diversity exemplifies the ideals of colorblindness.
In the past years, Disney television shows have been trying to embody the whole concept of
multiculturalism and the idea of inclusiveness. There have been diverse representations of people of
colored as cast members in many of Disney television shows. Shows like That s so Raven and Cory in
the House are about black families with diverse casts. Diversity in cast is also seen in shows like
Wizards of Waverly place, Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up. This racial diversity of Disney
television shows is seen as a step towards the eradication of racism and the adoption of
multiculturalism in television. This is however misleading as Disney s idea of racial diversity in their

Lung Cancers And Its Effects
INTRODUCTION
What are lung cancers? Lung cancers are the abnormal cells which grow in uncontrolled manner in
one or both lungs. They do not function as normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung
tissue. The abnormal cells can grow, form tumours and interfere with the normal functions of the lung
(Lungcancer.org, 2015). Lung cancers can be divided into two major types, namely non small cell
lung cancers (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancers (SCLC). NSCLC can be further classified into
three main subtypes, namely adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma
(Longo Harrison, 2012). Lung cancers can be diagnosed by chest X ray, computerised tomography
(CT) scan, positron emission tomography computerised tomography (PET CT) scan, bronchoscopy
and biopsy (Nhs.uk, 2015). Unfortunately, lung cancers are often diagnosed at the later stages. This is
due to the unrecognisable symptoms and warning signs at the earlier stages. NSCLC are often
diagnosed at stage IV which accounts for 30 40% of cases whereas 60% of SCLC is diagnosed at
stage IV. Lung cancer usually originates from the cells lining the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli.
Carcinogens especially tobacco smoke will alter the gene expression of the normal human lung cells,
resulting in cell mutation. The proto oncogenes will be converted to mutated form, oncogenes.
Mutation leads to the decreased expression of the tumour suppressor genes. This results in
uncontrolled cell proliferation, cell

Information On Line Transaction Processing
ETL Overview
Within an enterprise there are various different applications and data sources which have to be
integrated together to enable Data Warehouse to provide strategic information to support decision
making. On line transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehouses cannot coexist efficiently in the
same database environment since the OLTP databases maintain current data in great detail whereas
data warehouses deal with lightly aggregated and historical data. Extraction, Transformation, and
Loading (ETL) processes are responsible for data integration from heterogeneous sources into
multidimensional schemata which are optimized for data access that comes natural to human analyst.
In an ETL process, first, the data are extracted from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Incremental extraction: In this type of extraction only the changes made to the source systems will
be extracted with respect to the previous extraction. Change data capture (CDC) is mechanism that
uses incremental extraction.
There are two physical methods of extraction: Online extraction and Offline extraction. Online
extraction process of ETL connects to source system to extract the source tables or store them in a
preconfigured format in intermediary systems e.g., log tables. In Offline extraction the data extracted
is staged outside the source systems.
Transformation
The transform stage applies a series of rules or filters to the extracted data from to derive the data for

process aims to pass only proper data to the target. one or more of the following transformation types:
1. Selecting only certain columns to load.

Observations of Parent-Child Interactions and Temperament...
| Observations of Parent Child Interactions and Temperament Psychology 223 January 23, 2013 |
Temperament is defined as the features of your personality that are present at birth and have a
genetic/biological basis. Your temperament, or basic disposition, interacts with environmental
influences to create your personality (Salters Pedneault, 2010). Temperament is a behavioral style that
shows the how of behavior, rather than the what or why. Temperamental differences are present at
birth; they influence how children behave toward individuals and objects in their environments and
how they are affected by the environment (Behavioral Development Initiatives, 1996 2012).

Ephesians 12
Ephesians 6:12 says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Paul emphatically instructs his readers concerning spiritual warfare that Christians are involved in and
his definition, at least to me, is a chilling reminder that we are engaged in a battle.
The Bible contains numerous scriptures and accounts of spiritual warfare, too numerous for us to deny
the fact that it does exist. Now the level of our battles varies from person to person, nevertheless, a
relationship with Jesus signifies we are engaged in a battle with our adversary. There is a good and an
evil, there is a right and a wrong, there is righteousness and unrighteousness, there is black and white
and there is a God and a devil.
I grasp that in this age of enlightenment, spiritual warfare ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are times it is necessary for us to assume the defense posture, however, we are also encouraged
to be on the offense.
Ephesians 6:13 18, the famous text on putting on the whole armor of God, teaches us that this armor
isn t just about being ready to be attacked and to survive on defense, but it is about being prepared to
proceed with the attack. In verse 13, the word withstand does not denote to survive an attack, it
signifies to oppose the enemy. This scripture teaches God s warriors to be on the offense and then
follows with the equipment to accomplish the task.
Warfare possesses a defensive posture, however, warfare also contains an offensive position. As
Christians, we should position ourselves to be ready to defend but it is to our advantage to be on the
offense as the Word of God teaches. We possess the ability to take the fight to the adversary with the
strength and power of the Word of God, with prayer and with the Spirit of

Media Reports And Police Brutality
Media Reports and Police Brutality The purpose of my proposed research is to study the effect of
media reports on the current Americans perceptions of police brutality. Police brutality has been a
headline topic for debate for the past century. This topic s popularity has grown recently due to
advancements in media technology over the past two decades. Police brutality is a problem in the
United States for both, citizens and police officers. It is important to study the effect that mass media
coverage of police use of force has on Americans perceptions to find out if the initial coverage of
these events creates a bias in them. It has been found that celebrated crime events are portrayed
differently than normal crime reports on the news; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome is disrespect for police officers and people disobeying commands; which can cause
dangerous situations. This leads to the proposed research question; Do media reports effect the current
Americans perception of police brutality? Looking at this information can help explain some hostility
towards law enforcement. This research will look at data collected by multiple surveys and field
research that has been carried out over the past decade. The data that is collected will be able to give
us a better look at the amount of media the public consumes and what their perceptions are on police
brutality. This proposal will review the research and data collected by others who have previously
studied this topic and outline a new study. Prior studies have examined the media s effect on the public
s perception on how effective the police are. The proposed study will attempt to look deeper into how
much the media truly effects how often the public perceives that misconduct and brutality incidence
occur among police forces. Literature Review These articles attempt to find out what the public s
views are on the police; mainly their views on how prevalent police misconduct and police brutality is.
The studies that are reviewed and carried out in these sources are important to the criminal justice
system because they portray the effects that the media has on the public s perception of the job

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Building System
1.0 Introduction
Human beings have long been using the activity of building construction. Take the Arabian region for
example, the pyramids in Egypt are one of the most shocking and astonishing wonders in the world.
Pyramids were built using a well organized building system which nobody still seems to know, yet
everyone recognizes and admits that it is so well built that it lasted for over 2000 years. Humans for
ages have been building shelters and buildings using different types of building systems. For
centuries, the traditional building system has been used for almost all types of buildings. The
mechanized building system was later introduced and adopted in many developing countries.
Nowadays, countries are tending to lean into a far more developed system due to the many advantages
it offers; that building system is the industrialized building system. But what exactly differentiates the
industrialized building system from the other two systems and what advantages does it offer? This
paper will briefly introduce the traditional and mechanized building systems to compare them later
with the industrialized building construction system and show the reasoning behind countries adapting
this system.
1.1 General terms in building systems
To introduce the mentioned systems, a brief definition of a building system is needed. Merritt and
Ricketts (2000) defined a building as an assemblage that is firmly attached to the ground and that
provides total or nearly total shelter for machines, processing equipment, performance of human
activities, storage of human possessions, or any combination of these. Merritt and Ricketts (2000)
expressed building design as the process of providing the information required for the construction of
a building that meets the owner s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Role Of The Natural World Security
Within the natural world security is fundamental to the survival of living things and so basic needs
such as air, food, water, disease avoidance and shelter from the elements are vital. Within the social
world like the natural security forms the basis to which people and society can function well, and
explains why security is of primary concern through all spheres of said society. This assignment seeks
to look at the role matter plays in making social worlds secure or insecure. This will be done by
uncovering that which is often taken for granted about the role materiality plays in the social world
through theories, concepts and examples of security in various settings such as the individual, the
home, the city and other parts of society.
Matter is often defined as mass that can be physically observed by the senses, it can be measured
scientifically and is tangible , it could be said the material world unlike aspects of social worlds is less
abstract and easier to define [1], for example a building which comprises of bricks, wood, metal and
other materials built into a specific shape compared to a community which can relate to people of the
same place or shared values or interests amongst other meanings. That is not to say that matter just is,
it too can have agency and varying meanings dependent upon the context of time, place and
perspectives. A piece of turf to a gardener could be viewed as somewhere grass grows , to sports fan

Prism In Heroes At War
The personal prism gives the people of the present an insight into, as stated by Edward Rothstein, the
deeply personal experience of the war of those who were in the war or impacted by the war regardless
of whether the effect was direct or indirect. The Visceral Reality is great for allowing people a look at
how different people were personally affected in a given time. As there were a lot of participants of
many different occupations, there exists many pieces of literature , memoirs, art, and pictures that
depict the personal experience of the war and, as Rothstein states, much of the knowledge and
perspectives we have of the war front and the experience of being in the trenches comes from the
individuals that participated in the war. A pitfall that lies within the personal prism perspective is that

Early Junior Year Research Paper
Early junior year was a very rough time for me when it comes to the gradebook. The first semester of
the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I

were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school

As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of
disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical
and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences,
and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the

Advertising Vs Populism
Commercials airing on the television or radio, the billboards on the side of the freeways trying to grab
your attention to buy their product, even while scrolling through various social media platforms, we
go through our day to day lives with advertisements all around us. In Jack Solomon s essay, Masters
of Desire: The Culture of American Advertising, he states that the main purpose of all these
advertisements is to show us our unhappiness within the American dream. He goes on to describe the
differences in these advertisements which are known as the populist ads and the elite ads. Solomon s
description of the contradiction between populism and elitism very much affects the way advertising
and media is portrayed in American society. This contradiction brings forth the purpose of these
different advertisements, the audience in which it is intended for. For example, the elite
advertisements are presented to American society on beautiful glossy stock paper within magazines, or
in luxury car commercials where the extraordinary cars can be seen zooming along the coast or back
roads enjoying the drive up to the cabin. With all these flashy advertisements one can only assume that
an ...extraordinary car deserves an extraordinary advertisement, and that both [the] car and [the] ad are
aimed [towards an] extraordinary consumer... (Solomon 168). These elite advertisements start to
scrutinize the audience s financial status. They do this to start determining if the advertised

The ninth edition of the ICD codes were developed and pushed in a direction so that the codes could
be used for billing instead of just disease classification. (Department Health and Human Services,
1998) Medical coding after 1976 became the standard for health care providers to set cost and bill for
procedures based on the ICD codes. The ICD codes are taken from the different sources within
patients health care record, physician notes, lab results, x rays. Procedures performed on body parts
are all taken into consideration when assessing a value for services rendered. The fees associated with
each procedure are regulated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and by state
governments. Before this system of billing, physicians charged whatever they thought was appropriate
and in many instances bartered for their services. (Department Health and Human Services, 1998)
Government and insurance standards also regulate the cost of procedures that have been identified by
the coding system. The responsibility of making sure that accurate billing takes place falls to the coder
that use the ICD 9 and ICD 10 codes. These codes then tell the biller what to bill. Reimbursement
rates for procedures are controlled the US Department of Health and Human Services and state

The Popular Culture And The Theory Of Pop Culture
I believe that the phenomenon of greeting banners by communities and families is a kind of pop
culture. Popular culture or pop culture is a kind of phenomena that becomes mainstreams in a certain
culture, in this case the culture of Balinese people. Balinese people take a new form of the way they
deliver their Hari raya greeting, that is through banner and it somehow become popular and

underplaying assumption, the power behind the pop culture and the moral, attitude and philosophical
construct of the society that implement the pop culture. From it, we can get a better understanding
about how that certain society works and how their perception and behavior are shaped by the pop

Restorative Justice And Justice System
Restorative justice has some key restorative values that are vital in the restorative justice conference to
make the experience restorative . Concerning addressing victim needs and concerns means for
listening, respecting, being non judgmental, not blaming the victim and apologizing. The RJ system
was bought as an alternative to the criminal justice system to give greater emphasis on victim rights
and needs, offender accountability and community involvement. Throughout the essay, there will be
an insight into how Restorative Justice addresses needs of victims in terms of the different proponents
such as Information provided to victim, restitution/compensation, emotional and practical needs met,
participation and involvement of victim and protection of victim, which (Wemmers and Marisa, 2002)
as essentials to victims participating in the practice. The two countries that will be addressed will have
had restorative justice built out of injustices and over representation of the current criminal justice
system to the indigenous peoples of those countries.
The traditional criminal justice system is criticized for its neglect of victim importance and needs, for
example (Symonds, 1980) acknowledges, that the criminal justice system is concerned about looking
back at the event rather than focusing on how to rehabilitate and as a consequence making victims be
in a secondary victimization effect. This is the attitudes, behaviors and the beliefs of the people in the

Examples Of Sectionalism In The United States
Sectionalism and Nationalism In the United States of America Did you know what nationalism or
Sectionalism is? Well ill tell you! Sectionalism is when people in a country feel loyalty or pride to a
certain section of their country. Nationalism is when the people of a certain country feel pride and or
loyalty to their country as a whole. In the early 1800 s, the U.S. was divided by sectionalism, but was
also united by nationalism. The Missouri Compromise is a good example of nationalism. The Missouri
Compromise stated that Missouri would enter the union as a slave state and that slavery would be
prohibited above the 30 degree 30 latitude. This compromise essentially split the country into two
parts; pro slavery south and a anti slavery

Seduction In The Hours And The Awakening
A shiny, crisp red fruit hangs enticingly off a lush verdant branch; a sly, seductive serpent and a
woman in the nude converse under the sacred tree, and then Eve tentatively reaches up and plucks the
juicy crimson fruit, a look of panic only reflected on her face once she realizes the gravity of her
decision. She picks the forbidden fruit and her ignorance is ripped away from her like a newspaper on
a windy day, and this single act started a trend of succumbing to temptations throughout human
history. Even in the novels The Hours and The Awakening, the characters are tempted by someone else
or a different idea; however, some of these characters exhibit strong self control and avoid their
demise. The fine line between success and failure when it comes to avoiding temptation is most
obviously demonstrated by Edna Pontellier and Laura Brown, and these two women showcase the
destructive power of seduction and the strength of will it takes to deny the enticement. The allure of
the unknown is not exclusive to the female sex either, many men in the novel also suffer from it,
namely Robert Lebrun. The secret snare of temptation is interwoven throughout the stories, and the
sliver of thread can be glimpsed between the inky words. Many different types of temptations exist in
the world, but one of the most prevalent kinds is the temptation of another human being. The ideal
partner, the gold standard of lovers, is a temptation not many can resist. There is some inherent part of

Causes And Consequences Of The War Of 1812
The war of 1812 was also known as the second War of Independence , for some it may even be known
as the Forgotten War . It was an important conflict with long lasting consequences, especially for the
Native Americans in North America. The main cause of the war was America s desire to expand its
territory (history.com war of 1812 ). Just like everything else in America s history people were greedy
and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which equals more money. Native
Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone shared all she had to offer,
nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its own importance. When new
settlers came to the Americas they were looking for new land, new territory for their settlements.
Some did not know that the land already had settlers; Natives. Think of when you have visitors at your
home, are you welcoming? Most of the time you are. That is exactly how the natives were with these
new settlers. Though they did not speak the same language the natives offered a helping hand, just to
get spit on in return. Not literally, but figuratively, the new settlers seen natives as people that could be
changed. So that s what they did, they tried to assimilate the Indians teaching them the white man s
ways. Many Indians did not know what was happening at the time and others caught on causing many
uproars. The War of 1812 is just another one of those uproars. The war was not fought between

The Third Artefact For My Portfolio
The third artefact for my portfolio was Assignment 3 in course Mdde 605, titled: Globe Driving

multi year strategic goals and to reflect the potential for growth. Students were expected to include
financial plans and a balanced scorecard reflecting and measuring an organization s success. This 43
page document covered everything from Business visions, motivation product services, marketing
schemes, governance process, to the Financial Plan for a for profit company which was going to

The assignment itself was lengthy and took me a very long time to complete it. Not having a
background in business the most challenging part was doing research on a projected financial plan. It
was with a help of a charted accountant that I was able to accomplish this with actual numbers from
my workplace so all the information is based on true numbers. He taught me how to gather
information on company s projected sales, factors contributing to losses, projected profit, and
comparing with actual profit. This way, it is possible to predict of it is worth investing before investing
and starting new projects in the company. In the end, I was pleased with the final product despite the
frustration of reading multiple business plans, tackling the numbers and understating the swot

Death Of Dinosaurs Research Paper
Dinosaurs: Destroyed by an Asteroid
After the extinction of dinosaurs, intelligent scientists have come together to study the devastating
event. The debate surrounding the death of the dinosaurs has intensified due to many recent theories.
Some people believed that an extremely devastating ice age froze the dinosaurs across the world and
brought massive extinction. Others believe that a volcanic eruption occurred due to climate change
and natural disasters, while some say aliens abducted the dinosaurs. None of these theories seem
proven to be accurate and in alignment with historical events. Now many experts and paleontologists
are concluding that dinosaurs were killed by a massive rocky body asteroid. Although many people

Many amounts of asteroid elements such as iridium were found in rock debris along with other
asteroid particles. The discovery of Iridium sparked the attention of multiple scientists and
researchers. Iridium is rare in the Earth s crust, but it is plentiful in most asteroids and large
meteorites. With Iridium found in the Earth s crust, researchers have concluded that an asteroid
composed of Iridium struck Earth at its boundaries of layers. Further studies have indicated that this
Iridium layer has been found in more than 100 locations around the globe, providing data that this
event was truly universal ( Dinosaurs. ). In addition, the measurements and evidence are accurate with
the asteroid that made impact. After many decades of research and searching scientists identified a
massive crater associated with materials of Iridium. Many pieces Iridium are buried beneath
sentiments of rock, many surrounding the coast of Yucatan. Debris and sediments are revealed by high
graphing the strength and power of gravity over that area. With these statistics and drilling methods to
observe the area, it is concluded that a relatively large impact happened 65 million years ago. After the
calculations and drilling, astronomers charted many asteroids that have crossed Earth s orbit and
atmosphere. From abundant study efforts and orbital data, it is estimated that asteroids of

Self Discovery In Emil Sinclair s Max Demian
Emil Sinclair does not fully achieve his quest for self discovery, but he does develop along that path
and gains the tools and experiences necessary for the achievement of his quest, post novel. The main
manner through which he develops along this path is through interactions with the character who gives
his name to the title; Max Demian. At the start of the novel, Sinclair restricts what he views as
acceptable conduct to the realm of light and righteousness, (4) the realm of his parents, sisters, school
and church. However, Sinclair is tempted to cross into the other realm, the realm characterized by
darkness and perceived sin, stating, There were times when I actually preferred living in the forbidden

master is needed to aid him on his path to self discovery, stating, I was startled and frightened...But it

Sinclair transcend and surpass those offered by both Demian and Pistorius, chiefly because Eva
provides Sinclair with an target for ceaseless affection, a target at whom to direct his will and desires.
This emphasizes the most crucial portion of Demian s development, the push from his mentors to
explore his personal urges and desires regardless of their adherence or, more commonly, lack thereof
to what is societally acceptable. This is the most important piece of Sinclair s development due to its
fairly radical nature. For instance, Pistorius teachings advise Sinclair how to think regardless of
conformity to society, while Eva s advice teaches Sinclair how to act without regard to conformity to
societal norms. The step taught by Pistorius is a relatively easy one to take, but individuals in society
have a significantly more difficult time acting on those controversial thoughts than simply thinking

Douglas Rushkoff s Time Ain T Money
What is Money and Time? Time Ain t Money by Douglas Rushkoff is a manifesto regarding the
infinitely changing business world. In the manifesto, Rushkoff describes presentism which focuses on
the present more so than the past and even the future in relation to money and time. Rushkoff is trying
to enlighten us of the changes to the way we do business and how consumers want business to be
done. Throughout the manifesto, we get a sense of Rushkoff s opinion on our money system and how
times have changed. Getting a sense on his opinion, how has Rushkoff changed his audience s
perspective on time and money? The intended audience for this manifesto is mainly CEO s and
businessmen alike. Throughout the text, Rushkoff keeps refereeing to presentism. ... Show more

Why would did Rushkoff put this section where he did? I think this decision was important because it
focuses on how our currency system works and how it was originated. This section of the text really
changes how money should be perceived and how we as a society has changed. Rushkoff evaluates
the origin of our currency and basically says it s out of date. As our economy has shifted to
increasingly more digital networks, our currency has been devalued. Rushkoff says, the money we use
today central, bank issued currency is an artifact of the late middle ages (116). While this system of
currency has worked well, we need to shift to our digital stage in order to continue functioning. The
time based rules of money work quite well in an expansionist Industrial Age, (as long as we ignore the
impact on crafts people, local economies, and, of course slave populations), but they no longer seem
to function properly in a digital economy (117). Rushkoff says that because as times change, and we
switch to almost all digital transactions, our value and use of real currency also needs to change. You
can t have something lagging behind the other in society, it doesn t work that way. And Rushkoff
wants his audience to know that. He wants these big CEO s to be warry of perhaps a major shift in the
use of currency. He wants them to know because large business corporations are what keep society

My Trip To America Essay
Being Filipino and growing up in America, my trip to the Philippines was an experience I will never

live there for 2 years to finish my studies. I did not know too much of the Philippines, only the stuff
my mother has been telling me about. She explained to me, that the weather was different in the
Philippines. She told me it was very humid. That it was so humid, it was like walking in a sauna. This
has become very useful, for I knew what type of clothes to bring over there. But as the day of my

Telling me is one thing, but experiencing it, is completely different.

aunt. She and my cousin kindly helped me carry my bags as we walked to the car. On our walk, I had
asked her why there was so much smog. She told me, that it was not like in America, cars in the
Philippines did not have to go through a vigorously strict emissions check to be driven. I have learned
that not only was the weather different, but so were the laws.

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse s One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One Dimensional Man in the 1960 s during
at the height of the Cold War. The book One Dimensional Man was both influential and highly critical
of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation of people and
nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of social control. One
Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the 1960 s through a
critical lens. This essay will focus on One Dimensional Man as I explore his view that technological
development, alienated labour and consumerism have distorted affluent societies in creating false
needs as well as perpetuating unfairness through various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also argues
that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not
have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one
dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is
compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and
independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is
becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced
industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an
industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress,
and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and
oppression within the society. Why do false needs exist? they are a means of making money.
Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this
deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). The façade of liberty to choose what to do and buy. It is
deceptive because people are greatly influenced by this new consumer culture and may not even
realize it. Therefore, it is

Jathon Wayne Noble Analysis
Bad to Recovery Jonathon Wayne Nobles was a well known murderer in the 80 s. He has a
background of drug abuse and mental illness. The traits had lead him to the perpetuated situation of
killing two girls and stabbing a man. That explains why he was on death row. The time spent in prison
changed his privileges and respect, actions, and whether he was proclaimed good or bad. Noble wants
others to feel sorry for him by gaining their respect. For example, in the introduction between Jon and
Richard Bethard leads to the fact that Nobles has gained the respect of others in the prison by his
conversations and interactions with others. He describes Bethard beams, saying he is one of my

Did Nobles really change? Believing everyone is born good, circumstances change some people.
Others have a deep seeded bad side that at some point makes them snap while doing something no one
could think possible of them. One thing for sure is he made a lot of people think he had changed those
he made friends with. For example, when Dona and his pen pal Pam are strip searched and brought to
the site of the execution it shows that Pam has come all the way around the world to see the execution.
Karen Sebung accompanies me as far as the waiting area where we witnesses are searched, then Dona
and Pam are escorted to another room by a female officer. When they return a large man enters the
room and introduces himself as an officer of the prison s Internal Affair Division. (Earle 80).
Concluding that Jonathan Nobles as the choice to be good or bad, he truly shows that he is not a good
person. Two out of three people who serve time in prison never come back, and only eleven percent
come back multiple times. (slate.com) The situational rehabilitation comes into play when talking
about his change. All the manipulation of others provides evidence that he never really rehabilitated.
Jonathan Wayne Nobles was never really habilitated because of him wanting others to feel sorry for
him, actions influenced by how others treat him, and the fact of him being good or bad. All the
concepts make up the fact that Nobles never really learned anything while being imprisoned. He only
received more privileges for his wrong doing. The actions gave him more leeway to get closer to
others while making them a friend of his. He learned to adapt to the surroundings and make it work to
his advantage. With all the transformations back and forth from good too bad he never gave a true

Market
We can see examples of Tesco s opportunistic market entry whereby it fruitfully analyses and executes
market opportunity as in the case of its Central Europe and Asian expansion. In central Europe and
east Asia there was rapid liberalization of previous restrictions on retail and in east Asia Tesco sought
opportunity in buying up cash strapped retailers which were the casualties of the Asian economic
crisis of 1997/98.
In 10 years Tesco opened 1047 stores in South Korea accounting for 33% of the global operating
space (2. Lowe and Wrigley 2010)
The U.S market entry however, although researched heavily, execution seems to be at odds with the
strategic vision, giving rise to investor unrest and potentially 1 billion in investment loses with market
exit a distinct possibility in 2013.
Cost
The cost driver is also one of Yips (1992) key categories of consideration of international expansion. A
cash rich Tesco capitalized on cash strapped retailers in Asia acquiring major stakes in lotus in
Thailand and Homeplus in South Korea. Initially Tesco s share of partnerships was 73% in Thailand
and 81% in South Korea. Subsequent cash injections reduced CPs group share to zero and Samsung s
share from 11% to 1% while Tesco retained the Samsung name affording Tesco knowledge of local
business and regulatory conditions.
The cost implication of the U.S expansion came with a hefty price tag. A 1.2 billion 5 yr. investment
was over half of total international

What Similarities and Differences Are There Between...
It is in our human nature to explain everything. Naturally, there are many ways of knowing.
Application of these, often defined by certain methodology, are frequently classified into areas of

historical models for human understanding of the world are examined, many similarities can be seen.
These differences and similarities can also be seen when products of explanations are assessed. When

The thesis comes from my own beliefs. For example, such thesis is claiming that differing ideologies
played a major role in the development of the Cold War. Most scholars like J. L. Gaddis and

1940s. However, I can claim that ideology played a very important role in the development of the
Cold
War and present my evidence to support the argument. Unlike most science my explanation of
ideologies in the Cold War does no need to be accepted by the community. In history two or more
different explanations may exist and both would be valid. In science, most explanations are not

Essay Building Rail to Last
A railroad is like a lie, you have to keep building it to make it stand. Mark Twain Sustainability, the
ability to create an enduring system, is a critical factor in the evaluation of an industry. The health of
the transportation industry and specifically the railroad industry depends on the industry s ability to
sustain its business model in the face of resource challenges. A key driver of rail sustainability is the
infrastructure, the rails, switches, yards and turnouts that the railroad industry uses when moving
goods from source to destination. Both the government and the individual railroads are investing
heavily in infrastructure projects, and have chosen different targets for improving the health of the
railroad system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The passage of the Rail Passenger Service Act in 1970 led to the formation of the National Railroad
Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), and the railroads were given the opportunity to divest their
passenger rail service and focus on freight service. A second boon to the railroad industry occurred in
1980 with the passage of the Staggers Act. The Staggers Act significantly reduced the ability of the
Interstate Commerce Commission to regulate shipping rates, allowed the railroads to divest
unprofitable lines, and legalized railroad shipper contracts. The combined results of these two major
legislative policy actions were to revive what was a failing railroad industry. In fact, the Government
Accountability Office (GAO) has twice been asked by shippers to investigate freight railroad shipping
rates since the passage of the Staggers Act, in 1999 and 2002. Both times, the GAO found that rates
generally had decreased to a greater extent than rates for shipments without such alternatives. In these
cases, at least, effective regulation resulted in a healthy industry. The freight rail industry in the U.S. is
so healthy now, that a comparison of U.S. freight rates to those in other industrialized nations shows
the U.S. to have the lowest rates in the world, as depicted in the chart above. In order to continue this
trend, however, the country must make

Explained Behavior In The Classroom
After studying the chart in Chapter 8, I was able to recall many situations where students have
demonstrated some of the explained behaviors. One typical behavior that I see not only in my
classroom, but in my school, is students arguing loudly with teachers. According to Payne, students
living in poverty may argue with the teacher due to a distrust in authority. This past week I was on bus
duty which meant that I was waiting in the hallway with the elementary students calling out bus
numbers. This is a very chaotic time due to parent dismissals, walking students, NRT buses, etc. so we
try to limit the number of students in the hallways. While I was on duty I noticed one of my fifth grade
students hanging out in the hallway with their backpack on. In my school, which is first through eighth
grade, the upper grades bell schedules are different. Therefore, I knew that she was not dismissed yet

Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In...
I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of
mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a
whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service
important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach
to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community
outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our
church s presence in our community.
Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the
coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems
as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much
embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have
become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think
over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a
youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise
above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting
community outreach opportunities is so important.

Dentists in the United Kingdom are one of the most likely in the world to be exposed to dento legal
issues, and fixed partial dentures are among the most common dental treatment that could lead to
complaint (Briggs et al. 2012). We must be able to differentiate between production failure and
function failure. Production failure where the prosthesis fail early after cementation which could
indicate a problem in diagnosis (Cronström et al. 1998). Fixed partial dentures are an expensive

This prosthesis cannot be removed by the patient. It necessitates sacrificing of natural tooth structure,
which unfortunately could lead to loss of vitality of the abutments. In a recent systematic review
(Pjetursson et al. 2015), the survival rate of metal ceramic fixed partial denture over five years is
estimated to be about 94.4%, reinforced glass ceramic fixed partial dentures is 89.1% , glass infiltrated

What Is The Difference Between A PAnd Harrison Bergeron
Tim Kenda English 102 Short Story Essay 2/28/10 Heroism Through Choice When people think of
heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight, strength, or
x ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of situations and their
outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A P and Harrison Bergeron), the main characters are
classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces around them, whether it
be the store manager Lengel in A P or the Handicapper General in Harrison Bergeron, as well as their
willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to social norms. In Harrison Bergeron, the
main character Harrison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After he quits, he looks back and sees Lengel in [his] place in the slot, checking the sheep through.
and then goes on to describe Lengel by saying His face was dark gray and his back stiff, as if he d just
had an injection of iron. (Updike 529). When he sees Lengel in this state, he realizes that moments
before that had been him. At the end of the story, the cashier becomes a symbol of the thoughts of
many young people during the late fifties and early sixties. He does not want to work in the same
dreary place for his whole life. He does not want to be just like his parents and Lengel. And despite
that fact that he knows it will be hard, he makes the decision to strike out on his own, and
consequently to fight back against what he views as a dreary and depressing reality. That is a hard
decision to make, and a heroic one as well. As a result of his actions, the cashier in A P not only
commits a heroic gesture, he also becomes a symbol of the change that was taking place in the late
fifties and early sixties. Many young people at that point in time were breaking away from what their
parents were doing and were bravely striking off onto their own paths, just like the hero in our story.
The overall theme of the story mirrors the same path, showing the drear and the tension and the

Star Fox Persuasive Speech
First off, I d like to thank Jim Sterling, a renowned game journalist for bringing this issue to my
attention.
So, Nintendo. We all love Nintendo. Most of us, I assume. For those of you who are unaware of what
Nintendo is, it is the beloved video game developer and publisher of such classics such as the
countless number of games in the Mario series, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and of course,
Star Fox. Which is what we ll be discussing today. Star Fox Zero has recently been released, coming
home to reviews of about 7/10 across the board. Which is good. Not the best. Some would like to
argue a 7/10 is mediocre or average but I don t believe that. I think a 7/10 is a good solid, fun to play
game.
But that s the problem.
It s not that fun to play.
You see, Nintendo likes to be innovative for the sake of innovation. And that s why we haven t seen a
Star Fox title for a good while now. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, that s why a Star Fox title never
came out for the Wii. They couldn t be innovative. Now, I m all for innovation where it s due. But this
is not the way to go about it. And I m sure I can hear you know, What s so bad, exactly? Well I ll tell
you. Actually, let me ask you something. Hypothetically, if you had a Wii U, which, I m sure a few of
you do, wouldn t you want to have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shigeru needs to go to the time out corner and think about what he s done. And that s being
unnecessarily innovative.

Introduction This paper, in conjunction with my slideshow presentation, will clearly present the
differences and similarities between SAP HANA and the most current version of SAP, ECC 6.0. There
will also be a thorough comparison of the manufacturing modules within these two systems. Systems
SAP ECC 6.0 SAP is the world s third largest software company, founded in Germany in 1972. They

The Advancement of Computers
Computers are one of the most important inventions ever. If computers had not been invented,
technology would not be developed to its current state.
Since the computers invention, society has changed drastically. Computer technology is so helpful,
that it is even used to create newer, better computer equipment. Almost everything today is linked in
some way, to computers. Before computers were invented, very little was known about outer space.
With the technology we have now, we are learning new things everyday.
Computers are used to follow the paths of asteroids and predict their future movements. On 6
December 1997, a mile wide asteroid was discovered by astronomer Jim Scotti, a member in the

One other good thing about digital money would be it would continue to collect interest up until the
moment it is spent, instead of the instant it leaves the bank. Perhaps the best feature of digital money
is it could end all money based crime. Because the person could cancel their old number and get a new
one at anytime, it would be pointless to steal one s cash card. It would be like robbing someone for a
check. It is hard to imagine how different things would be without cash theft.
Computers have revolutionized meteorology, allowing us to predict with good accuracy how the
weather will behave in the near future. They also allow us a generalized prediction of changes in the
climate farther down the road.
Some scientists think they have discovered reason to believe the polar ice cap is going to melt soon.
These scientists scraped up volcanic ash and other debris from the land areas surrounding the ice and
ran tests on it with a computer. They seem to think that only three million years ago there was a warm
period and some of the cap melted off (Livermore 38 43). This is totally different from conventional
thinking which says the cap has been there for fifteen million years.

If the ice cap were to melt, the face of the United States, and every other coastal country in the world,
would be altered.
Computer technology is so versatile that it is even used to improve future

I Am A Normal Human Being
First and foremost, I believe that I am a normal human being. I don t consider myself to be out of the
ordinary except for my love of Prince, but if you don t like Prince or his music, can you even call
yourself a human? I digress, I thought that going into this assignment I would find out more
interesting things about myself, however, I learned quickly that that wasn t really the case. See, what
was interesting to me was very boring and weird to others, especially my friends that aren t in theater.
When I would go up to them and explain the new things that I am doing, they would kind of just look
at me and secretly judge, but it also let me know that I was enjoying learning more about myself.
All my life I knew that I was flexible jointed and that I could do a lot of things such as putting my leg
over my head and interlocking my arms and moving them all around my body without breaking that
lock, but I also discovered that I could do other things without even noticing them. For instance, I tend
to bounce my knee whenever I am really into a story that I am telling, but also whenever I am really
passionate about something. Another thing that I noticed is that when I sit, I sway from side to side or
front to back, but I just have to be in motion. It s just something that allows me to burn off the extra
energy that is within me. I think that all the little things I do, such as leading with my left foot and
having my right face outward as I walk explains why it kind of looks like

The Fallibility of Partial DNA in Courts
DNA s certainty is dramatized in today s society, which gives lay people the impression that DNA is
infallible; however, in the case of Wayne Butler and others, the fallibility of DNA is exposed. Wayne
Butler was accused of sadistically murdering Natasha Douty who was found beaten to death on
Brampton Island in 1983. Wayne Butler was vacationing on Brampton Island during the timeframe of
the murder; however, claimed to be jogging during this time. After submitting a blood test, Butler was
eliminated as a suspect. However, Butler was arrested in 2001 for this murder because semen, which
was found on the towel at the crime scene, was found to be a match. The John Tonge Centre
performed a DNA test on the evidence on the towel. Butler was found innocent after it was identified
that the John Tonge Centre mislabeled the test tubes containing the crime scene evidence. ( DNA
Evidence ) This case proves that DNA testing may not be as reliable as we think.
No two people, except identical twins, have identical DNA sequences, which makes DNA testing
appealing to law enforcement. Two types of DNA testing include short tandem repeat and variable
number tandem repeat. Short tandem repeat requires less DNA compared to variable tandem repeat,
which is useful when a sample has been degraded at the crime scene. ( DNA Evidence ) Whilst DNA
evidence is a useful weapon in solving crimes, it is not infallible; therefore, it needs to be used with
caution, especially with partial DNA profile,

The Father Of Pan, The Greek God Of Nature
Pan is the Greek god of Nature. He was born father Hermes and his mother, who is one of
Dryops daughters. When Pan was born and his mother and nurse saw that he had horns ,ears, tail, and
legs of a goat they both ran away to escape Pan s monstrous appearance. Then Hermes saw his child.
He was over joyed and to Pan to Olympus and proudly introduced his son to the immortals. After that
Pan grow up and went to the forest in Arcadia there he had worshiper.
Pan s main domain was nature, but he mostly stay in Arcadia. Also most of his follower lived there.
Arcadia was a group of mountain dwelling people separated from other Greeks. Also it is said that if
the hunter were disappointed with the chase they would scourge the statue of Pan.
Being a rustic god Pan was never worshiped in temples or any built building. He was worshiped in
Natural sitting like cave or grottos; these are often called the caves of Pan. It is said when Pan is
lonely he lets out a whale that send fear though any mortal that hears it, this is part of the reason why
panic is dedicated to pan. There is another thing with pan he is associated with fertility and spring, but
he is also associated with a mother goddess either Rhea or Cybele.
Unlike some other gods Pan was ugly. Also he lived in the mortal world. He hunted for his food in the
mountain and he pursued quite a wild life himself, but he also spent his time playing with the
woodland nymphs he also talked to them too. He also had another side to him. This

The Security Of A Network
There are many threats today that can compromise the security of a network. Network security is now
more important as ever as attacks on networks that hold valuable information are being breached, even
with security measures put in place. One of the biggest threats to a network is data theft. Outside
hackers pose the greatest threat. These thieves target a company s network and steal information
through vulnerabilities that they have found in their networks. They usually gain access through the
use of a Trojan horse, which is a program that looks legitimate but can be used by others to gain
access to the network. They may also use a virus or worm, which can infiltrate a network with
malicious code and replicate itself in a network. Others try to gain entry by attempting to crack the
network passwords or user accounts. We hear in the news how networks that were supposed to be
secure were breached and information was stolen that could have negative consequences. Yahoo
discovered that their network had been attacked continuously for the past two years but only recently
discovered it. Information that was stolen ranged from users birth dates to passwords that were
encrypted (Lien). When a network has been successfully breached and information stolen, the
company who has fallen victim to this not only sees their reputation hurt but also suffer a large drop in
their stock prices. This hurts people who may have some shares in that company as many retirement
plans tend to invest

Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell
Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The
Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell.
The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret Dante
Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin avoided a
traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view of hell through
a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century, Rodin sought shift the
focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the dominant form of interpretation
of classical themes in France. The Gates of Hell was to avoid these text based views of Dante s work
as a motivation for Rodin s commission for the doors as an early form of modernity in sculpture:
Rodin s sculpture, for all its affinity to great literature from Dante to Baudelaire, has nothing ... Show

In this compositional form, the chaos of human forms seen suffering and writhing in hell are one way
in which Rodin deviated from the text that he was initially supposed to follow from the Divine
Comedy. Rodin, therefore , was motivated by a more active and personal view of the chaos of hell,
which was individualistically interpretative and went against traditional forms of literary interpretation
in French classical art. The chaos of the human forms depicted on the gates of hell define the
individualism of the sculptor s point of view, which sought to remove the sickly aspects of literary
culture that was so dominant in French artistic culture. Rodin sought to move away from these
sometimes gaudy expressions of literary heroism to a more realistic, chaotic, and despairing view of
hell through Rodin s sculptural

  • 2. Character Analysis Of Victor In The 1998 Native American... Victor in the 1998 Native American film Smoke Signals , was a major and dynamic character. The entire film revolved around Victor and the past and present relationship with his father. Victor helped develop the theme of the story which was to forgive others. Victor changing from an angry Native American teen, to a happy and forgiving young man, was a huge and dynamic character change. A dynamic character is character who goes through an important inner change in their personality or attitude. Suzy told Victor stories of his father that guided him to see the good in his father and start to forgive. Victor is very well rounded character throughout the story. Victor was very kind to his mother. He knew that she wanted the best for him, and Victor felt bad that she had to go through the same situation with his father. This was the good side of Victor, it showed the caring and kind young man that he could be. Victor was not very kind to Tomas. Tomas was an awkward teen that just wanted to be friends with Victor. Victor thought Tomas was annoying and childish. Victor even told Tomas as a young child, What color were your parents when they were burned? (Smoke). The book which I am comparing and contrasting is The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. This fiction book is about two kids that are my age named Carter and Sadie. The want to live a normal life but their Egyptian ancestry makes it a little difficult. They Learn that their ancestors were pharaohs, and they have royal blood. They have to go on a journey to defeat the god of chaos. They must learn about Egyptian culture and some magic! Throughout this essay I am going to go through various topics and aspects dealing with the two cultures and comparing and contrasting them. In my opinion the biggest differences between the Egyptian and my culture is probably religion. First off Sadie and Carter are polytheistic. This means they believe in more than on god. I on the other hand an monotheistic. I am catholic so I believe in one god. I believe that god created everything on his own. The Egyptian mythology explanation for the world is So the sky goddess Nut was married to the earth god Geb...Geb and Nut wanted to have kids, but the kind of gods, Ra He was the sun god and he forbade a child to be born on any day or night of the year... This blog post is going to inform you on everything you need to know about finding your perfect lace dress. All fabrics that wedding dresses use are all beautiful, but none of them come close to how romantic and historical lace is. Back in history, when a bride would wear lace at her wedding, this demonstrated the wealth of your family and prosperity. It would tell everyone that you came from a wealthy family and that you could afford to get married in a lace wedding dress. The Wonderful World Of Disney Marian Mimi Sesay ENGL 101 Professor Burrus October 2nd 2015 Welcome to the most wonderful racist world of Disney The wonderful world of Disney is synonymous with fairy tales, adventure, and happily ever after. Disney makes dreams come true and makes us wish upon a star. And apart from its entertaining purposes, the world of Disney is a learning medium in which kids can learn about ethics, values and self image. The world of Disney over time has become a persuasive form in which children can learn about the world around them. However, The world of Disney teaches messages to children that exceed the boundaries of childhood culture. Many of Disney movies and television shows portray people of color in stereotypical fashion and its attempt in diversity exemplifies the ideals of colorblindness. In the past years, Disney television shows have been trying to embody the whole concept of multiculturalism and the idea of inclusiveness. There have been diverse representations of people of colored as cast members in many of Disney television shows. Shows like That s so Raven and Cory in the House are about black families with diverse casts. Diversity in cast is also seen in shows like Wizards of Waverly place, Good Luck Charlie and Shake it Up. • 8. Lung Cancers And Its Effects INTRODUCTION What are lung cancers? Lung cancers are the abnormal cells which grow in uncontrolled manner in one or both lungs. They do not function as normal lung cells and do not develop into healthy lung tissue. The abnormal cells can grow, form tumours and interfere with the normal functions of the lung (Lungcancer.org, 2015). Lung cancers can be divided into two major types, namely non small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancers (SCLC). NSCLC can be further classified into three main subtypes, namely adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma (Longo Harrison, 2012). Lung cancers can be diagnosed by chest X ray, computerised tomography (CT) scan, positron emission tomography computerised tomography (PET CT) scan, bronchoscopy and biopsy (Nhs.uk, 2015). Unfortunately, lung cancers are often diagnosed at the later stages. This is due to the unrecognisable symptoms and warning signs at the earlier stages. NSCLC are often diagnosed at stage IV which accounts for 30 40% of cases whereas 60% of SCLC is diagnosed at stage IV. Lung cancer usually originates from the cells lining the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli. Carcinogens especially tobacco smoke will alter the gene expression of the normal human lung cells, resulting in cell mutation. The proto oncogenes will be converted to mutated form, oncogenes. Mutation leads to the decreased expression of the tumour suppressor genes. This results in uncontrolled cell proliferation, cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Paul emphatically instructs his readers concerning spiritual warfare that Christians are involved in and his definition, at least to me, is a chilling reminder that we are engaged in a battle. The Bible contains numerous scriptures and accounts of spiritual warfare, too numerous for us to deny the fact that it does exist. Now the level of our battles varies from person to person, nevertheless, a relationship with Jesus signifies we are engaged in a battle with our adversary. Police brutality has been a headline topic for debate for the past century. This topic s popularity has grown recently due to advancements in media technology over the past two decades. Police brutality is a problem in the United States for both, citizens and police officers. This research will look at data collected by multiple surveys and field research that has been carried out over the past decade. The data that is collected will be able to give us a better look at the amount of media the public consumes and what their perceptions are on police brutality. This proposal will review the research and data collected by others who have previously studied this topic and outline a new study. • 13. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Building System 1.0 Introduction Human beings have long been using the activity of building construction. Take the Arabian region for example, the pyramids in Egypt are one of the most shocking and astonishing wonders in the world. Pyramids were built using a well organized building system which nobody still seems to know, yet everyone recognizes and admits that it is so well built that it lasted for over 2000 years. Humans for ages have been building shelters and buildings using different types of building systems. For centuries, the traditional building system has been used for almost all types of buildings. The mechanized building system was later introduced and adopted in many developing countries. Nowadays, countries are tending to lean into a far more developed system due to the many advantages it offers; that building system is the industrialized building system. But what exactly differentiates the industrialized building system from the other two systems and what advantages does it offer? This paper will briefly introduce the traditional and mechanized building systems to compare them later with the industrialized building construction system and show the reasoning behind countries adapting this system. 1.1 General terms in building systems To introduce the mentioned systems, a brief definition of a building system is needed. Merritt and Ricketts (2000) defined a building as an assemblage that is firmly attached to the ground and that provides total or nearly total shelter for machines, processing equipment, performance of human activities, storage of human possessions, or any combination of these. As there were a lot of participants of many different occupations, there exists many pieces of literature , memoirs, art, and pictures that depict the personal experience of the war and, as Rothstein states, much of the knowledge and perspectives we have of the war front and the experience of being in the trenches comes from the individuals that participated in the war. The first semester of the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I realized this was not what I was capable of and it was not anywhere near my best work. My parents were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school ALWAYS comes first. My theater director who taught me all throughout high school was disappointed in me, and my soccer coach was disappointed in me. As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences, and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the high school would pay for it if we made above a C in the classes. I did not make above a ... Advertising Vs Populism Commercials airing on the television or radio, the billboards on the side of the freeways trying to grab your attention to buy their product, even while scrolling through various social media platforms, we go through our day to day lives with advertisements all around us. In Jack Solomon s essay, Masters of Desire: The Culture of American Advertising, he states that the main purpose of all these advertisements is to show us our unhappiness within the American dream. He goes on to describe the differences in these advertisements which are known as the populist ads and the elite ads. Solomon s description of the contradiction between populism and elitism very much affects the way advertising and media is portrayed in American society. This contradiction brings forth the purpose of these different advertisements, the audience in which it is intended for. For example, the elite advertisements are presented to American society on beautiful glossy stock paper within magazines, or in luxury car commercials where the extraordinary cars can be seen zooming along the coast or back roads enjoying the drive up to the cabin. With all these flashy advertisements one can only assume that an ...extraordinary car deserves an extraordinary advertisement, and that both [the] car and [the] ad are aimed [towards an] extraordinary consumer... (Department Health and Human Services, 1998) Medical coding after 1976 became the standard for health care providers to set cost and bill for procedures based on the ICD codes. The ICD codes are taken from the different sources within patients health care record, physician notes, lab results, x rays. Procedures performed on body parts are all taken into consideration when assessing a value for services rendered. The fees associated with each procedure are regulated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and by state governments. Before this system of billing, physicians charged whatever they thought was appropriate and in many instances bartered for their services. (Department Health and Human Services, 1998) Government and insurance standards also regulate the cost of procedures that have been identified by the coding system. The responsibility of making sure that accurate billing takes place falls to the coder that use the ICD 9 and ICD 10 codes. These codes then tell the biller what to bill. Seduction In The Hours And The Awakening A shiny, crisp red fruit hangs enticingly off a lush verdant branch; a sly, seductive serpent and a woman in the nude converse under the sacred tree, and then Eve tentatively reaches up and plucks the juicy crimson fruit, a look of panic only reflected on her face once she realizes the gravity of her decision. She picks the forbidden fruit and her ignorance is ripped away from her like a newspaper on a windy day, and this single act started a trend of succumbing to temptations throughout human history. Even in the novels The Hours and The Awakening, the characters are tempted by someone else or a different idea; however, some of these characters exhibit strong self control and avoid their demise. The fine line between success and failure when it comes to avoiding temptation is most obviously demonstrated by Edna Pontellier and Laura Brown, and these two women showcase the destructive power of seduction and the strength of will it takes to deny the enticement. The main cause of the war was America s desire to expand its territory (history.com war of 1812 ). Just like everything else in America s history people were greedy and always wanted more. More land equals more workers which equals more money. Native Americans did not own land, land was known Mother Earth, everyone shared all she had to offer, nothing was taken for granted, nothing was wasted, everything had its own importance. I think this decision was important because it focuses on how our currency system works and how it was originated. This section of the text really changes how money should be perceived and how we as a society has changed. Rushkoff evaluates the origin of our currency and basically says it s out of date. As our economy has shifted to increasingly more digital networks, our currency has been devalued. Rushkoff says, the money we use today central, bank issued currency is an artifact of the late middle ages (116). While this system of currency has worked well, we need to shift to our digital stage in order to continue functioning. The time based rules of money work quite well in an expansionist Industrial Age, (as long as we ignore the impact on crafts people, local economies, and, of course slave populations), but they no longer seem to function properly in a digital economy (117). Rushkoff says that because as times change, and we switch to almost all digital transactions, our value and use of real currency also needs to change. You can t have something lagging behind the other in society, it doesn t work that way. And Rushkoff wants his audience to know that. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. The passage of the Rail Passenger Service Act in 1970 led to the formation of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak), and the railroads were given the opportunity to divest their passenger rail service and focus on freight service. A second boon to the railroad industry occurred in 1980 with the passage of the Staggers Act. The Staggers Act significantly reduced the ability of the Interstate Commerce Commission to regulate shipping rates, allowed the railroads to divest unprofitable lines, and legalized railroad shipper contracts. The combined results of these two major legislative policy actions were to revive what was a failing railroad industry. In fact, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has twice been asked by shippers to investigate freight railroad shipping rates since the passage of the Staggers Act, in 1999 and 2002. Both times, the GAO found that rates generally had decreased to a greater extent than rates for shipments without such alternatives. • 38. Explained Behavior In The Classroom After studying the chart in Chapter 8, I was able to recall many situations where students have demonstrated some of the explained behaviors. One typical behavior that I see not only in my classroom, but in my school, is students arguing loudly with teachers. According to Payne, students living in poverty may argue with the teacher due to a distrust in authority. This past week I was on bus duty which meant that I was waiting in the hallway with the elementary students calling out bus numbers. This is a very chaotic time due to parent dismissals, walking students, NRT buses, etc. so we try to limit the number of students in the hallways. While I was on duty I noticed one of my fifth grade students hanging out in the hallway with their backpack on. In my school, which is first through eighth grade, the upper grades bell schedules are different. Therefore, I knew that she was not dismissed yet and belonged in one of the classrooms. I asked her why she was in the hallway so early and she responded with, I need to wait for someone. I then asked who she was waiting for and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of becoming defensive, I should have taken a second to compose myself and really think about the best way to move forward. One way I could have done this would be to try and understand why the student was trying to sneak out of the classroom early. Was the class still learning? Or, could I have asked her to be a bus monitor helper so that I could keep an eye on her while preventing an argument from happening. Understanding students behaviors and having a toolbox of interventions is extremely important. I strongly believe that I can use the chart in Chapter 8 to better understand my students and their ... • 39. Mission Statement On Community And Community Service In... I hope you are doing well. As one of the members of the youth, I would like to address a concern of mine involving the youth group. Our church s mission statement is experience, equip, and severe. As a whole, I feel that the youth group is lacking in the area of service. Not only is community service important to our church, I also believe it is crucial to have our youth involved in community outreach to promote emotional and spiritual growth. I believe our youth should participate in more community outreach because it will counter selfish tendencies, allow the youth to feel helpful, and promote our church s presence in our community. Let s face the fact, in general, the youth today are very selfish and narcissistic. It s all about having the coolest clothes, the newest iPhone, or how many likes and retweets they can get. It sometimes seems as if caring for others has completely disappeared from their thought process. They have very much embraced the selfie lifestyle. Along with selfishness and narcissism, the youth also seem to have become somewhat ungrateful. Although some may say that this is how typical teenagers act, I think over the past few years it has become more and more prevalent. Despite that fact, is it not our job as a youth group to try to work against the negative stereotypes and better ourselves. To overcome and rise above the low expectations we typically have. This is why I believe creating and promoting community outreach opportunities is so important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. What Is The Difference Between A PAnd Harrison Bergeron Tim Kenda English 102 Short Story Essay 2/28/10 Heroism Through Choice When people think of heroes, they often think of muscle bound men in spandex with unrealistic powers of flight, strength, or x ray vision. But in real life, heroes are often determined based on the smallest of situations and their outcomes. In both of the stories I have chosen (A P and Harrison Bergeron), the main characters are classified as heroes because of their willingness to defy the authoritive forces around them, whether it be the store manager Lengel in A P or the Handicapper General in Harrison Bergeron, as well as their willingness to strike out on their own instead of adhering to social norms. In Harrison Bergeron, the main character Harrison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the story, the cashier becomes a symbol of the thoughts of many young people during the late fifties and early sixties. He does not want to work in the same dreary place for his whole life. He does not want to be just like his parents and Lengel. And despite that fact that he knows it will be hard, he makes the decision to strike out on his own, and consequently to fight back against what he views as a dreary and depressing reality. That is a hard decision to make, and a heroic one as well. As a result of his actions, the cashier in A P not only commits a heroic gesture, he also becomes a symbol of the change that was taking place in the late fifties and early sixties. Many young people at that point in time were breaking away from what their parents were doing and were bravely striking off onto their own paths, just like the hero in our story. Most of us, I assume. For those of you who are unaware of what Nintendo is, it is the beloved video game developer and publisher of such classics such as the countless number of games in the Mario series, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and of course, Star Fox. Which is what we ll be discussing today. Star Fox Zero has recently been released, coming home to reviews of about 7/10 across the board. Which is good. Not the best. Some would like to argue a 7/10 is mediocre or average but I don t believe that. I think a 7/10 is a good solid, fun to play game. But that s the problem. It s not that fun to play. You see, Nintendo likes to be innovative for the sake of innovation. And that s why we haven t seen a Star Fox title for a good while now. According to Shigeru Miyamoto, that s why a Star Fox title never came out for the Wii. They couldn t be innovative. Now, I m all for innovation where it s due. But this is not the way to go about it. I don t consider myself to be out of the ordinary except for my love of Prince, but if you don t like Prince or his music, can you even call yourself a human? I digress, I thought that going into this assignment I would find out more interesting things about myself, however, I learned quickly that that wasn t really the case. See, what was interesting to me was very boring and weird to others, especially my friends that aren t in theater. When I would go up to them and explain the new things that I am doing, they would kind of just look at me and secretly judge, but it also let me know that I was enjoying learning more about myself. All my life I knew that I was flexible jointed and that I could do a lot of things such as putting my leg over my head and interlocking my arms and moving them all around my body without breaking that lock, but I also discovered that I could do other things without even noticing them. Another thing that I noticed is that when I sit, I sway from side to side or front to back, but I just have to be in motion. • 46. The Fallibility of Partial DNA in Courts DNA s certainty is dramatized in today s society, which gives lay people the impression that DNA is infallible; however, in the case of Wayne Butler and others, the fallibility of DNA is exposed. Wayne Butler was accused of sadistically murdering Natasha Douty who was found beaten to death on Brampton Island in 1983. Wayne Butler was vacationing on Brampton Island during the timeframe of the murder; however, claimed to be jogging during this time. After submitting a blood test, Butler was eliminated as a suspect. However, Butler was arrested in 2001 for this murder because semen, which was found on the towel at the crime scene, was found to be a match. The John Tonge Centre performed a DNA test on the evidence on the towel. Butler was found innocent after it was identified that the John Tonge Centre mislabeled the test tubes containing the crime scene evidence. ( DNA Evidence ) This case proves that DNA testing may not be as reliable as we think. No two people, except identical twins, have identical DNA sequences, which makes DNA testing appealing to law enforcement. Two types of DNA testing include short tandem repeat and variable number tandem repeat. Short tandem repeat requires less DNA compared to variable tandem repeat, which is useful when a sample has been degraded at the crime scene. ( DNA Evidence ) Whilst DNA evidence is a useful weapon in solving crimes, it is not infallible; therefore, it needs to be used with caution, especially with partial DNA profile, ... • 48. The Security Of A Network There are many threats today that can compromise the security of a network. Network security is now more important as ever as attacks on networks that hold valuable information are being breached, even with security measures put in place. One of the biggest threats to a network is data theft. Outside hackers pose the greatest threat. These thieves target a company s network and steal information through vulnerabilities that they have found in their networks. They usually gain access through the use of a Trojan horse, which is a program that looks legitimate but can be used by others to gain access to the network. They may also use a virus or worm, which can infiltrate a network with malicious code and replicate itself in a network. Others try to gain entry by attempting to crack the network passwords or user accounts. We hear in the news how networks that were supposed to be secure were breached and information was stolen that could have negative consequences. Yahoo discovered that their network had been attacked continuously for the past two years but only recently discovered it. Information that was stolen ranged from users birth dates to passwords that were encrypted (Lien). Auguste Rodin s Gates Of Hell Essay 2: An Analysis of Figural Movement and Non Textual Depictions of Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy in the Sculptural Motivations of Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell. The primary motivation for Auguste Rodin s Gates of Hell are based on the desire to interpret Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy through amore individual response to the text. Rodin avoided a traditional interpretation of Dante s narrative by creating his own form of chaotic view of hell through a modern 19th century perspective. During this the middle to late 19th century, Rodin sought shift the focus away from literary interpretations of art, which had become the dominant form of interpretation of classical themes in France.
