Modernism In A Soldier s Home
Modernist literature began between 1915 1935, writers mainly wrote fiction this is because they
started to question what the future was going to bring since they were living through both World
War. Modernists wrote their stories in first person which made their stories seem like a stream of
consciousness, irony and satires. This type of literature was mainly written in English and became
well known due to the increase of globalization, which was more about how the people felt about
the events going on and how the people were affected in other words it spoke from the inner self of
the writer. Many famous writers including Ernest Hemingway, Langston Hughes, and F. Scott
Fitzgerald believed that the increase in new technology was leading to the decrease in civilization
which was making individuals lonely.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story is an example of modernism because the theme Hemingway created was that of
loneliness, isolation and alienation this is because Krebs was suffering with post war trauma
and depression this is because the soldier is having problems adapting to his new life after war.
Hemingway stated that By the time Krebs returned to his home town in Oklahoma the greeting
of heroes was over. He came back much too late. The townspeople have already celebrated the
soldiers safe trip back home they didn t celebrate Krebs because the townspeople thought it was
ridiculous he was back years after the war had ended. This an example of modernism because he

The X-Men Franchise
My yet to be documented feelings of the X Men franchise can best be described as mixed. I am
not as huge of a fan of the original trilogy as most people, and I actually prefer X Men Origins:
Wolverine to any of those films. I do, however, very much like this newest trilogy, of which
Apocalypse is the closing entry. (Alas, I haven t seen Deadpool ). That mixed feeling on the
entire series applies to this installment, as well, although I am leaning positive on this one. X
Men Apocalypse is set 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past (although only two years
have passed in reality). Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) has become a cult figure adored by
mutants, although she has gone off the radar. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) has devoted his
time to his students at his school for gifted youngsters. Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Michael
Fassbender) has reinvented himself, becoming a simple industrial worker in Poland. Of course, all
that changes when the titular villain (Oscar Isaac), the original mutant who also possess godlike
abilities, awakens from a millennia long slumber. The X Men must reunite to combat this new foe.

McAvoy is still a natural Xavier who has charisma and humor, but also conveys the moral might
of the character. Filmspotting Madness Chmpaion Michael Fassbender is once again fantastic as
Magneto. He s an absolute force of nature that exudes confidence, but he also delivers in his
emotional moments. Lawrence is merely fine as Mystique. She is definitely phoning this one in,
but even when she does that she is decent. Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast is good again,
with earnestness and humor in abundance. Unfortunately, he isn t given much to do. Lastly, Evan
Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver is perfect. He is believable, charismatic and hilarious in a

Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson
Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson demonstrated unimaginable leadership skills in
an effort to accomplish their respective agendas. Through the use of moral leadership, King
would rise to become the head of the Civil Rights Movement by means of civil disobedience and
nonviolent resistance. MLK began as a Baptist Minister, but after seeing the difference he could
make in the world, decided to stand up for what he felt was right. Johnson, on the other hand,
used political leadership in order to make a name for himself as President of the United States.
LBJ was willing to do whatever it took to accomplish his goals, even if it meant going against the
Southern Democrats who had elected him to political office. One of these risks... Show more

Niebuhr believed that the world was full of evils and oppressions that individuals needed to
fight against. People should not stand back and allow the horrors around them to continue, but
instead fight back in whatever way they can. MLK would take these teachings and apply them
to his ideas of Gandhi s nonviolent protests. Individuals who are in the minority, and thus unable
to take drastic action, would benefit from the use of nonviolence. This strategy would allow
Black Americans to seek justice and equality without truly disturbing the current relationship
with White Americans. King s plan was to allow his religious and political ideals to run on the
same moral edge, something that Reinhold Niebuhr had surely allowed for in his ideology
(Branch, 81 7). Martin Luther King, Jr. was able to use this religious and moral idea of
nonviolence to unite Black Americans who were tired of their oppression. Violence and drastic
action had proven to arguably make their situation worse, meaning that something as different
as peaceful civil disobedience could prove to work. By the time of the 1963 I Have a Dream speech
at the March on Washington, King had become the voice of the various perspectives of life as a
Black American. He now expressed the universal voice of all his people, and he was not afraid to
use it in the pursuit of equality for Blacks (Branch, 881 3). Martin Luther King s Birmingham
campaign would prove to be the

King Augustus Relationship
Augustus was born in 63 BC in Ancient Rome. He died August 19, 14 AD in Nola, Italy. His full
name was Imperator Caesar Divi Filius Augustus. His parents were Gaius Octavius and Atia.
Augustus had 3 wifes. There names were Clodia Pulchra (m. 42 BC 40 BC), Scribonia (m. 40 BC
38 BC), and Livia (37 BC 14 AD). He was married to Livia the longest. Augustuswas adopted by
his great uncle Julius Caesarin 44 BCE. Augustus was called many names but the most common
was Octavian. Augustus was the founder of the Roman Principate and he was considered the first
Roman Emperor, controlling the Roman empirefrom 27 BC until he died in 14 AD. Augustus was
considered to be the greatest emperor of all time. Augustus came in power after his uncle Julius
Caesar was assassinated. Augustus gained supreme power by defeating Mark Antony. Mark Antony
had been a close friend and relative to them for a long time. Augustus and Mark Antony s
relationship had began to deteriorate so he then had given his sister to marry Mark Antony in hope
to get their bond back. Then, Augustus thought that Mark Antony had used his sister because he
had divorced her and married Cleopatra. So therefore, their relationship was still messed up and a
lot of things happened between them.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Christian Teaching on Wealth and Poverty
Coursework
(a) (i) Outline Christian teaching on wealth and poverty.
Christians do not think money is a bad thing. However, they believe the way money is earned and
used is the issue. Most Christians believe that wealth is a gift from God to benefit others.
Christians believe that all money belongs to God and he gives them stewardship of his money to
use wisely. The Bible teaches, You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24). For
Christians this means that they must be careful not to replace their love for God with the love of
money. Christian teaching on wealth and possessions varies slightly regarding the amount of money
and possessions that should be given to the poor. Some Christians follow the teaching in (Mark ...

(Luke 10:25 37). Jesus taught this so that Christians would treat everyone the way that they would
want to be treated. In Luke 6:20 26, Jesus said. That the poor were special to him and that their
suffering would be rewarded in heaven. He also went on to say, The rich who ignored the suffering
of the poor would be punished. One of Jesus most important teachings on poverty was in Matthew
25:31 46. To the affect Jesus said Whenever you help anyone in need you are helping me.
Christians believe that when they help someone they are helping Jesus and that they will be
rewarded for it. These are the main Christian teachings on wealth and poverty.
(a) (ii) Explain why there is a need for world development.
The worlds countries are split up into three factions: developed countries, less economically
developed countries, (LEDCs), and the countries in between these two extremes. The majority of
the countries in the North Hemisphere of the world are developed countries. Developed countries
have an average annual income of above $9000. An example of a developed country is Great
Britain. The majority of countries in the Southern Hemisphere are LEDCs. The average annual
income for these countries is below $750. The countries in between are developing countries. Their
average annual income is between $750 9000. There are many reasons why there are such

Katrina Sleepy Hollow
During Washington Irving s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow , the main focus tends to be
on Brom Van Brunt and Ichabod Crane. Yet it can be alluded that one never thought to question
their love interest s, Katrina Van Tassel and her purpose for existing in the story. Katrina Van
Tassel shows signs of being a convoluted and colluded industrialist; from using men, to using her
wealth and beauty, and even down to her personality, Katrina proves to be the ultimate tease. Just
like workers in the industry field use machines to make goods, it can be concluded that Katrina Van
Tassel can use men to give her attention. Thinking back to the story, evidence can be found on page
thirteen, from the moment Ichabod Cranemade his advances, her interests in the country farmer
declined (Irving 13), as well as a line of the same page, a deadly blood feud... Show more content on

Katrina is very quick witted and seems to excel in her studies, she connects with Ichabod during
their private lessons because, like industrialists, they can both use a systematic application of
scientific and/or practical knowledge ( Industrial Revolution ). Not only did Katrina use practical
and psychological applications to play with the minds of men, but betrayal was at hand
(Anderson); as it is mentioned by Ichabod on page twenty, Could that girl have been playing off
any of her coquettish tricks? (Irving 20). Katrina is being manipulative with the men in her life,
showing further that while witty, she can be vile as well. With Brom, it feels almost like Katrina
had him wrapped around her finger. Thinking back to when he sabotaged her music lessons, she
must have figured it was him, and yet rather than be angry she kept her affair with the two men
going. Bottom line is she is an intellectually, vile attention

Free Fall And Projectile Motion Lab Report
Freefall and Projectile Motion
Introduction and Objectives
This lab experiment was done to determine the characteristics of free fall and projectile motion in
Physics. The motion in which a body is thrown or projected is called Projectile motion while free
fall is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it, at least initially.
In this experiment, a photogate, a chopper, and a Universal Lab Interface were used to
determine the free fall motion of the chopper as it was released. A ball, carbon paper, and an L
shape projector were also used to determine the range of projectile motion of a ball being released
from a horizontal yet slightly vertical slope. At the end of the experiment, one will know how

The Photogate has a beam of infrared light that travels from one side to the other. It can detect
whenever this beam is blocked. A Picket Fence or a chopper, a piece of clear plastic with equally
spread out black sections on it, was dropped. As the Picket Fence passes through the Photogate, the
computer will measure the time from the leading edge of one bar blocking the beam until the
leading edge of the next bar blocks the beam. This timing continues as all eight bars pass through
the Photogate. From these measured times, the program will calculate the velocities and
accelerations for this motion and graphs will be plotted.

Persuasive Essay On Respect In Society
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do
for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but
what, together, we can do for the freedom of man , states the revered and sound late President
Kennedy, a man who truly believed in the cruciality of respect within and for the nation one
inhabits. A society is not only the making up a community, but it is a factor reflecting the ideals of
justice, morality, and the overall character of every individual within the given society. Without
respect, without consideration for the greater good, there is simply no reasonable possibility of a
prospering and flourishing society ever emerging. In this current world one experiences day in and
day out, the slaughtering of the innocent, the unrelenting violence, the angst between races, and the
lack of integrity all influence the declining of our once thriving nation, therefore causing a
termination to the aspects of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Within the last year, if one
were to access any form of news media, more than half of the material displayed would include
one of the three following topics: terrorism, massacre, death. In correlation to the definition of
respect, a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities,
or achievements, those three topics do not seem to elicit one s pride and devotion to bettering

Copyright Laws And How They Have Affected Society. Copyright
Copyright Laws and How They Have Affected Society
Copyright laws have been in place for over two hundred years. They are meant to protect from the
unauthorized and unlawful use of ideas and media under law, and protect the artist s integrity. The
types of media protected ranges from books to movies, from TV to picture art. In it s own way,
copyright laws have affected society and how media is distributed across the world.
Copyright Laws
The current copyright laws we use have been in place since 1976, when the Copyright act was put
in place. (Copyright law, 2017) This act was meant to reform the copyright laws into a easier to
understand format, and a easier use by people. The laws protect ideas and media from unauthorized

After it is registered, your copyright claim is valid for seventy years after you die, unless your work
was created by a company or corporation, to which it remains after ninety years. (Ravgiala, 2017)
Copyright of Movies, Films and Television
All audiovisual works are protected under section 101 of the US copyright code. This prevents
the copying, distribution of, or plagiarism of copyrighted visual works. Most of these
infringements occurs when someone sneaks some kind of recording device into a theater and
records it there. Then they either put it up on the internet for free, or sell it for a cheaper price
than you would get a ticket at the movies. Movies are, however, protected under the fair use law.
Section 107 allows audiovisual works to be used in a non commercial environment, such as a
educational institution. For instance, if a teacher wants to show a movie about volcanos to his
class, he can, as long as the movie was lawfully obtained by the teacher or the school
administration. (Cameron, 2017) These rules all relatively apply to television as well. The thieves
record the airing of a show, and then post it somewhere on the internet. The thieves have also been
known to transcribe the script of a show as it airs, and then post this script on the internet. Most of
these are intentional infringement and can cost you a lot of money in the future for stealing any
monetary gain from

The Red Baron Is A Film Directed By Nikolai Muellerschoen...
The Red Baron is a film directed by Nikolai Muellerschoen and produced by Niama Film which
was released on April 10, 2008 but wasn t released in the US until March 19, 2010. This movie
was based on a legendary German pilot who fought and died in World War 1. This pilot was
known as Manfred von Richthofen. I believe that this film was nicely put together, the plot kept
its viewers engaged and wanting to see what would happen next. In this essay I will be giving a
brief explanation on the film and why it is or is not accurate and whether the producer did it on
purpose or by mistake. At the beginning of the movie which takes place in 1906, Manfred is still
a child. As a kid Manfred is out hunting with his younger brother Lothar von Richthofen and
younger cousin, Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen. Suddenly the sound of an airplane flying
nearby flies over them. Amazed, Manfred jumps on his horse and follows the airplane with his
arms spread out as though they were the wings of a plane themselves. This foreshadows him
becoming a pilot in the future. After this scene the movies jumps ten years into the future which
happens to be during World War 1. After the ten years have passed Manfred is a Lieutenant and is
serving as a fighter pilot for the Imperial German Air Service. Lieutenant Richthofen is shown
flying along the Western front where they drop a wreath over the funeral of an Allied pilot. On his
way back home with his friends and fellow pilots Werner Voss, Lieutenant

President Nixon s Success And Failures
President Nixon s Success And Failures
President Richard Nixon came in power was the 37th president of the united stated elected in
1969. He is remembered as the first president to ever come out of office through resignation in
1974. He stepped down halfway in his second term in office or faces the threat of impeachment due
to the efforts to cover up illegal activities that members of his administration had engaged in the
Watergate scandal. He served as a former congressman and a two terms as vice president under
Dwight Eisenhower during the in1950s. He contested against democrat john f Kennedy for
presidency in which he was defeated. In 1968 he decided to context again and this time round won
the elections. He had a mixture of success and failures during his administration as the president of
the United States of America.
President Nixon had a track record in his first term in office despite the disgrace in his second
term that led to his resignation. He pursued reforms in welfare, health care, civil rights energy as
well as the environmental policy. He believed that the policies had been based on national
standards and not the idiosyncratic whims of 50 states. When the congress defeated his welfare
and health care programs, he created the office of management and budget and office of energy
policy for advice on oil policy as well as supporting the clean air act of 1970. Moreover, he
established the environmental protection agency.

Global Financial Crisis Case Study
Building it into the system: Firoozye
One observed solution to the realised growth of Uncertainty (of all colours, up to and including
Knightian, radical, Uncertainty) is to attempt to account for it within existent systems, whilst
resisting paradigmatic change of the system environment as a whole. Through examination of the
2016 work of Firoozye and Ariff , Managing Uncertainty, Mitigating Risk, the logic, justification,
and tools of one such approach will be elucidated.
Firoozye and Ariff diagnose, like many others, that the systems prior to the Global Financial Crisis
were not set up in such a fashion that they could handle when events didn t fall in the correct
probability distributions (i.e., that the highly unlikely did, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For Haldane, Hayek s insights laid bare the perils of over active policy if one assumed omniscience ,
throwing the need for radical epistemological reconfiguration intp sharp relief. Here, they highlight
instead his description of uncertainties caused by the dispersal of knowledge . This is not
Knightian Uncertainty, nor does it claim to be, but it is pertinent that this is the groundwork laid.
The battle to eliminate Knightian Uncertainty at the top starts with that of collation and gathering
of information to reduce less pernicious Uncertainty at the bottom.
Central to this is the urge to classify, to create taxonomies so that, even in the instance where deep
Uncertainty does emerge, everything else that can be known, is. This is a wider view than many
others here, implicit in whose work is the assumption that Knightian Uncertainty is a constant,
rather than a symptom of particularly complex environments. It is only through this mapping of
classes of unknowns, and the gradual expansion of information about them, that Firoozye and Ariff
aver we are able to manage Uncertainty and prepare for foreseeable outcomes
Their demands on the traditional risk management methodologies in finance are broad, if not novel:

Although the Western States Affiliate s (WSA s) organizational model successfully increased
fundraising revenue for the American Heart Association (AHA), the task force s initiative to adopt
this structure and strategy at a national level indicates a lack of understanding of the AHA s overall
vision and business strategy. If the AHA wishes to achieve even greater success while continuing to

strengthening its community participation. While the new WSA organizational structure proved

By improving operational efficiency, AHA will be able to achieve greater long term success.
The AHA would benefit from multiple lateral processes that would help execute on its strategic
vision as well as day to day operations. An American Heart Walk event in Texas, for example,
would use the WSA s model with a specialized CED overseeing event execution, but prior to that,
EVPs and SVPs from several regions, by nature of their dual responsibility structure, would
leverage the knowledge gained from AHW events across the entire country. At the same time, the
community liaison, a new addition to the local office, would also benefit from the strategic
coordination across all AHW events and would better represent the common vision and goals of the
AHA. A second lateral process that promotes operational efficiency is e coordination. A central
repository of volunteers, donors, event planning specifics and a detailed community profile will be
a very valuable asset to the AHA. For example, having information on the fund raising and
educational programs that were successful in an affluent community in one geographical region
will provide focus when pursuing a similar community in another part of the country. Collaboration
with local organizations also becomes easier when pre existing relationships across the country may

The benefits of a motivated staff should prove an impetus to managers to use motivation as a
driving force to obtain a high degree of functioning by employees. According to Musselwhite (2011)
managers who are effective at motivating their direct reports reap the reward of employees who can
handle a variety of assignments, work more autonomously, report higher levels of job satisfaction,

result in decreased productivity and a sense of dissatisfaction in the workplace. An equitable
workplace shows increased productivity, decreased absenteeism, and less staff turnover. Equity
theory in the workplace shows greatly in matters of wages (Sweeney, 1990).
Goal Setting Theory Theory Description Goal setting theory developed in the 1960s and 1970s
by Gary Latham and Edwin Locke promotes the notion that if a manager provides an employee
with specific, challenging goals the worker tended to outperform a worker assigned a vague, non
specific goal such as do the best you can. This theory relies on the manager s awareness of the skill
level and abilities of all employees (Borkowski, 2005).
Goal Setting Theory in the Workplace The concept of the goal setting theory necessitates planning
in advance by management after a thorough thought process of the goal needing to be met and the
resources, including employees, available to assist in the goal achievement. The three steps
required by the goal setting theory, goal setting, goal commitment, and support elements, need
careful consideration by the manager (Borkowski, 2005). Goals need the characteristics of
specificity and measurability. As employees perform the different levels of self confidence, the
goals set by management must show attainability by the employee in accordance with the

Magic In Fantasy Mythology
Magic and myth serve a multitude of roles in the fantasy genre. Magic is often used as a
significant plot device and can exist in a fantasy work for several purposes; magic is used as a
mode of enticement to peak the reader s interest and signifier of the genre, it is used to advance
the plot, and, magic is also used as a device in which the author can explore real world concepts
and contemporary concerns in a way that is both immediate, yet removed from reality. The
incorporation of traditional mythology is also frequent in fantasyworks as they are a source of
inspiration that also draws the reader s attention without requiring too much explanation for the
audience to understand, they can also aid the work in becoming more relatable to the reader s own
reality. The incorporation of mythology could have a religious agenda as in C.S. Lewis s The Lion
the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lewis uses magic and the fantasy genre to incorporate Christian
mythology and create a text which serves as an introduction to Christianity, in a way that he
believes will interest children. The inclusion of mythology in fantasy fiction also connects the
reader s own reality to the fictitious one in the text, making the text feel more applicable to the
reader s own life. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling uses magic as a
device to create major plot points, for example, the magic that protects Harry throughout the series
due to his mother s sacrificial death, and even more

Napoleon And Stalin Animal Farm Essay
Animal Farm is a political allegory concerning power about the Russian Revolution. At the
beginning of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of
Manor Farm together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that
they had worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who
is thought to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Unionduring the mid 1920 s. They were
both leaders that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For
instance, Napoleon and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them
was their act of violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell,... Show more content on

rations to be stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen
should be punished by death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because
they didn t want to give them anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up
their products. This is to symbolise what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands
away from profiting farmers because private property is against the government and socialism.
Both of them tried to control the food production and would not mind killing to get the production
process smoother. Furthermore, both dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell
states, ...but it was cruel work, and the animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt
before. They were always cold and usually hungry as well (pg 66). This means that Napoleon
would make the animals work hard no matter how the harsh conditions were. In relation to this,
Stalin made loyal proletariat workers work hard until they got too tired and incompetent. Overall,
both dictators governed their people

The Super Natural Analysis
Last week we read Jeffrey Kripal s The Super Natural, in the text he mentions, We are not our
physical body; we are spirits, and as such we are immortal and we are destined, lifetime by
lifetime...to evolve into ever higher levels of consciousness and so return to God . Through
investigations of various worldviews and the real , I am discovering evidence and support for that
which I feel and know to be true and real for myself. Particularly throughout that last few months I
have grown more aware about the colonization of knowledge, not just in context to religionand
power, but the overall institutionalized control of power/knowledge dynamics in place such as
language, culture, and education. The quote above provided by Kirpal assists in backing where my
worldview lies, and the ever expanding and dynamic composition of my minds eye.... Show more

The Effects of Turmeric on Alzheimer s The topic of dementia and Alzheimer s is a personal for
me. My grandmother will be 86 years old this year. For the last few years she has had a diagnosis
of dementia, recently the doctors have mentioned she may be in the advanced stages of
Alzheimer s disease (AD). Last year I learned about the antioxidant and anti inflammatory

The park s granite is made up of smaller bodies of granite. This is one reason why there are many
varieties of granite. Weathering of exposed granite is slow because weathering depends on
whether there is moisture or not. Edges and corners of joint granite blocks are more affected when
weathering occurs. Unweathered remains of granite turns into rounded boulders. Small natural
depressions turn into weather pit when water collects in a depression on granitic surfaces. A
possible explanation for weathering is that alternate wetting and drying along the pools that
collect in the pans. Darker granitic rocks are high in biotite and weather quicker than the lighter
rocks. The foothills are located at the west edge of the park and eastern summit area. They are
remains of ancient rocks and sediments. Evolution of the landscape is a big part of the geology
just like the rocks themself. As the earth became cooler, the sierra nevada mountains rose high
enough for creating glaciers and mountain icefields. The majority of Yosemite is made of plutonic,
igneous rock. The plutonic rocks were formed by intrusions of magma into older rocks. These are
as old as 130 million years. Forms of plutonic rocks in Yosemite are granite, granodiorite, tonalite,
quartz monorite, and quartz monzodiorite. Metamorphic rocks have been changed by pressure that
can result in being buried in earth. There are 2 belts of metamorphic rocks, one on each side of the

Evolution of Hip-Hop
Evolution of Hip Hop From where it started to where it is now, Cuban hip hop has transformed
greatly. Without the United States, hip hop in Cuba certainly would not be where it is today.
The United States is the hub of hip hop and helped to jumpstart hip hop in Cuba. While this is
true, hip hop in the United States completely differs from that of Cuba for the better. Even
though hip hop in Cuba did not start from much, the amount of development and influence this
music has towards Cuba is immeasurable. Around 1970, 44 years ago, hip hop emerged in the
West Bronx of New York. The culture of hip hop incorporates many aspects besides just the
music itself, such as DJing, graffiti, breakdancing, and urban fashion. Hip hop mainly started
from DJ s separating the break in rock, funk and other types of songs, as well as the MC playing
a major role in the development of hip hop. In between the songs that the DJ was playing, the
MC would speak in between the songs, make jokes and many other actions in order to get the
crowd riled up. This eventually led up to the practice of hip hop to become more conventional,
resulting in the forming of hip hop. Kool DJ Herc did all of this in 1970, who is believed to be
the one who started the emergence of hip hop. At first, DJ Herc would deliver rhymes over reggae
track; however, this did not engage people s attention enough. Because the people were not
engaged, DJ Herc had to find another way to satisfy the audience, which came from him

Examples Of 7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
Seven Habits Essay
Sean Covey s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is intended as a guide to help teens improve
themselves and become successful in life. Its primary focuses are how to take control of your life,
set and achieve goals, build friendships, maintain quality relationships, withstand peer pressure, and
improve self image. It consists of seven habits Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First
Things First, Think Win Win, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, Synergize, and
Sharpen the saw. These habits are each designed to help you lead your best life. From this book, I
have learned to take care of and love myself, maintain healthy relationships with others, work
towards my goals, and resist anything that could potentially harm me or prevent me from doing
these things.
The first habit portrayed in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is Be Proactive. Being
proactive means taking responsibility of your life and thinking before you act. As the book states,
Proactive people are aware that they can t control everything that happens to them, but they can
control what they do about it. The opposite of being proactive is being reactive, which is what the
book is trying to steer you away from. Reactive people act on feelings and don t take the time to
assess the situation. This habit has taught me that how you react to situations determines the
outcome. Even if the situation is negative, if you are proactive and have a good, responsible

People choose to turn to meals that are already prepared for them instead of paying more money
and spending more time cooking meals using healthier ingredients. Fast food restaurants are
known for creating fast service and big meals for low prices which entices customers to buy
more of their food because it doesn t require any work on the customer s behalf to be able to feed
their families. Fixing this bad habit in most Americans households would require a change in
the prices of fruits and vegetables giving the ability for anyone and everyone to be able to buy
fresh produce from grocery stores and make it easier for everyone or helping people choose the
way of making a fresh and healthy meal for their families instead of providing the meals given
through drive thru windows. In the situation of trying to make the prices of fresh produce
cheaper and helping adults make meals for their families instead of buying meals another
solution could be for the government to step in and create a limit on how big restaurants are
allowed to have their portion sizes. All fast food restaurants are in competition with each other so
every restaurant tries to bring in as many customers as possible and if you are able to bring in a lot
of customers that gives you power over every other restaurant. The key to bringing in customers

Along these lines Sir Philip Sidney said in his The Defense of Poesy The cause why it is not

the term of performers who sought to compose verse, yet an artist primate could be anybody. So
it isn t right to expect, as some have, that the writer primate of Jonson s saying was fundamentally

James Tobin theorized that firms would continue to invest as long as the values of their shares
exceeded the replacement cost of their assets, therefore highlighting that the market value of a
firm equals total asset replacement cost (Tobin 1958). Furthermore, market value of a firm to
net replacement cost Is best expressed in relation to Tobin s Q equation where if Q value is
greater than 1, then a firm should consider expansion and growth as profit derived from net
assets should exceed the total cost of assets because if Q is a measurement of performance then
takeover returns are larger if the target is performing poorly, and the bidder is performing well
(Servaes 1991). Contrastingly, if the Q value was lower than 1 , the firm would be better off
selling its assets as monetary value of the assets are more than the value of retaining them .

When it was discovered that the Government and country had gone bankrupt the peso (Filipino

since the previous year, and it lost another 3.8% the following year. People in the upper class who
were involved in banking and other financially alert professions quickly saw the disturbing fate of
their economy and vocally protested Marcos s dictatorship. Although the people living in a rural

Vaccines Are The Best Effective Preventative Tools Against...
Vaccines are thought to be some of the most effective preventative tools against highly infectious
disease processes and their complications. Routine vaccinations in the United States have led to
drastic declines in vaccine preventable diseases (Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey, 2010)
such as mumps, rubella, polio, smallpox and diphtheria. These diseases are occurring at less than
1% of what they were during the pre vaccineera, especially in higher income countries. Vaccination
requirements can be traced back to 1855, when United States schools began requiring
immunizations for school entry. As a result of this requirement, vaccine coverage levels have

Aside from the safety and efficacy concerns, are parental concerns that their children could not
handle the administration of simultaneous vaccinations. To combat this concern, 26% of parents
elect to follow an alternative vaccination schedule (as opposed to the schedule recommended by
the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices) and have been reported to refuse vaccines
such as those for MMR, while another 54% delay the administration of the vaccine (Shimi, 2012).
Some of the most recent parental concerns in regards to vaccine safety are a result of the
unsubstantiated link between vaccines and autism. Although unsupported by a credible body of

When Victoria became Queen, England was already a constitutional monarchy. Government

The Roswell Incident This world we live in can be a mystery, and because of that there are

Amy Lowell s Patterns
Amy Lowell defines the hopeful liberty of women in the 20th century through a central theme
in the poem Patterns . The woman s dreams of eluding from the boundaries that society has
placed on her fritters away when she learns of her lover s untimely death. She restricts herself
from feeling to make it seem as if there is not softness anywhere about her. Due to being
constricted by whalebone and brocade, the speaker feels like she is forced to live up to the rules
that society enforces upon her. The numerous images that the speaker uses in this poem like the
fluid motions of the flowers and water drops, the dressand her daydreams of her lover all play an
important part in developing the theme of Freedom. At the beginning of Patterns , the speaker
illustrates daffodils dancing freely in the wind. This use of imagery is a tool to appeal to the
audiences sense of sight, these flowers are given movement, and they are described as, blowing,
and Fluttering in the breeze, This description produces a sense of flexibility. The womanhas a desire
to be like the flowers, self confident and carefree. The second stanza of the poem begins with the
woman describing the water in the marble fountain. The plashing of water drops demonstrates
liquid in motion. She notices such little details in a fountain which shows how much the woman
aspires to be free and able to move about as she wishes. The buoyant movement of the flowers and
the water represents a way of life that

The poem, God’s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins is an...
The poem, God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins is an Italian sonnet, which closely follows
the traditional Italian rhyme of ABBAABBA, and then CDCDCD. (Shmoop) There are also several
words throughout the poem that rhyme within themselves. For example God, rod, trod, shod all
rhyme. Gerard Hopkins liked to use sprung rhythmin which the stressed and unstressed syllables
have a complicated relationship, and the message desired from the reader can change the rhythm.
(Shmoop) Sprung rhythm allows each person to read the poem differently and take away what
they wish. The speaker of this poem has lost faith in humanity and their treatment of the world
God had granted us. However, in the second half of the poem, the speaker shows his views of the
world and its connection to God.
In the first stanza of God s Grandeur, the speaker is amazed at the greatness of God. However, he
is dismayed by the way people treat God s creation. God himself directed humans to care for
their world. Genesis 2:15 says, The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden
to work it and take care of it. (Genesis) Mankind s treatment of the Earth obviously did not
measure up to the standard that the speaker has envisioned. This is clearly visible in lines four
through seven, Why do men then now not reck his rod? Generations have trod, have trod, have
trod; and all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil; and wears man s smudge and shares
man s smell. (God s) The

into terrorism acts. All and sundry have the right to free speech as stated in the First Amendment of
the Constitution Congress shall make no law respecting...or abridging the freedom of speech, or of
the press. (Lovett, 2013 ) It is on this basis that the citizens of America are able to keep their
government accountable and in check of its actions and ensures America is a state for the people
by the people themselves.
The federal government s perception of offensive speech has evolved over the years, for instance,
Manet s Olympia art masterpiece was considered offensive in the Nineteenth Century but in present
day it is regarded as a piece of great value and real craftsmanship. Just like art tastes and
interpretation changes over the decades, so does the people and federal interpretation of hate
/obscene speech changes. The courts are in the fore front of protection free speech from the

Child Psych Thought Paper
Kathryn Graf
October 29, 2014
Ordinary People written by Judith Guest is a story about a typical American family. The book
examines how a family reacts to the adversity of losing a member. The book begins just over a
year since the Jarrett family lost Buck, their teenage son.
After reading the DSM 5 is was clear to me that Conrad was suffering from persistent depressive
disorder. In order to be diagnosed with PDD you must have a depressed mood for most of the day,
which in children and adolescents lasts for a year. Conrad s problems have been going on for
just over a year, as his brother died in early summer and the book takes place the next fall. His
depressed mood is apparent from the very start of the book, as he mentions not having ... Show

First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction
of personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was
susceptible either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor
that resulted in his depression. Although we are only given a little information on what Conrad was
like before the death of his brother, this is definitely plausible. Another factor is that research
indicates that families of depressed children are characterized by problems with attachment,
communication, conflict, cohesions, and support, as well as poor child rearing practices. It is clear
that the Jarrett family has its fair share of family problems. The first is a problem that due to his
mother s love for Buck, Conrad feels that their relationship does not measure up. Therefore, there is
most likely some attachment issues within the relationship. Lastly, there is certainly a lack of
communication within the house. Nothing is talked about because there is a belief that they don t
have any problems.
The article Child and Adolescent Depression in the Family examined the positive effects that family
therapy can have on a child suffering from depression. The research found that all the studies
involving a family focused treatment was effective at decreasing youth depression. I think that this
would be especially important for the

Social Media Impact
Impact of social media on student s learning
Situation:
Over the last three decades, rapid growth and development has occurred in the area of information
and communication technologies. Within the last decade particularly, the growth in prominence of
social media and Web 2.0 technologies has had a dramatic impact globally on how people
communicate. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Google_ and RenRen
have the potential to become important disruptive technologies for building cutting edge models of
management education (Michael and Howard 2012). This rapid growth in technology had made the
efforts to make things more challenging, dynamic and convenient as well. The impact is greater on
the youth or particularly students. Students no more utilize or surf online they live their lives there.
The ever engaging behavior of students in social media had created various opportunities for
different scientists to target them towards a thing.
Problem Statement:
With change in technology, the ways to deliver information has also shaped with it. For example,
there are new ways of marketing the products, providing valuable content online rather than on
physical books. The need to adapt to technological change that has rapid and crucial in success of
the education system. It is very important to use social medial in classroom as a teaching tool
because it has multiple impact on students learning and shaping their career. This research will be

Leadership Is A Contact Sport
Group Summary_Forum10
Introduction
Leadership is a contact sport. As with any sport skills, best practices, and preparation are on
constant display for both teammates and competitors to see. Leaders must hone specific
characteristics and traits that give them the ability to earn the respect of those who would follow. In
this paper the traits of courage, integrity, and growth will be expressed as important concepts in the
development and maintenance of a leader.
Group Consensus
The three topics chosen were all considered important to the group members. With courage and
integrity the two traits tend to go hand in hand. A leader with integrity will gain the trust of his or
her followership while courage will inspire them and lead change. Dees describes the concepts of
integrity and courage an essence of leadership and a unifying factor in all aspects of a leader s life.
(Dees, 2013) The third concept of growth and learning express the maintenance a leader must
exemplify in their own personal journey. With growth and learning practices and techniques that
provide a strategy for this maintenance.
Biblical Integration
In the book of Isaiah the prophet writes that but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall
walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (English Standard Version) In context, Isaiah express that the Lord
will be the source of our courage and integrity and by waiting

Berkshire Castle Research Paper
Warwick castle is known as one of the most haunted castles in Great Britain. Warwick is a
medieval castle built by William the Conqueror in 1068. It is the county town of Warwickshire,
England. Warwick Castle, built of the very centuries, cannot be expected to alter with time s
brief hours and weeks at least, with so few of them as fall to one poor mortal s lot. From visit to
visit, I find it as unchanged as the multiplication table, said Katharine Lee Bates. Warwick castle
is known as one of the most haunted castles in Great Britain steeped in folklore and tradition. Its
oldest ghost story is the slaughtering of a gigantic cow called the Dun Cow by Guy of Warwick.

The Grey Lady, however, whose origin is wrapped in mystery, has been seen by many members
of the family up to the present day. The Grandmother of the present Earl was always seeing her,
while many servants have borne witness to catching a glimpse of her furtive figure flitting
about the long corridors. Doors open without reason, the Grey Lady appears and then passes on,
and when the astonished spectator goes to find her there is nothing. Evening Post wrote. The
Grey Lady today can only show single digit references on google. Sir Fulke Greville was born on
October 3, 1554 and died September 30, 1628. Greville is the most modern referenced ghost of
his time. He was a gifted poet and Warwick castle was granted to him in 1604 by James I. He was
at one time Chancellor of the Exchequer. He left this post in 1621, raised to the peerage and
given the title of Baron Book. The castle had fallen into a state of decay. From the time he got the
castle until his death, Greville devoted his time and fortune its restoration. You are able to hear
creaks, groans, and muttering from dark doorways. It is said today that Greville still lingers on in

The Psychodynamic Approach To Depression
Psychological issues are often regarded as being permeant. Patients are so called cured and
receive treatment to better themselves but are referred to also as being in remission . The stigma
of the being labeled as having a mental illnesses is a permanent label that follows a person
everyday of their life. A strength of the sociocultural approach to depression is the treatment
involved in helping the patient. Through the use of treatments such as family therapy, the
psychologist is treating the family as a whole rather than the single person who is depressed.
Family therapy has the ability to drastically increase the chances of a person to recover from
depression and enter remission. Society is primarily responsible for individuals for causing... Show

Genetic variants have a small effect on overall risks of developing diseases and disorders but a
need for environmental factors as well is required to develop disorders such as depression. From
the biological approach, an issue arises with the claims that genes have the ability to cause
depression due to the fact that studies have shown no single gene has the power alone to cause
someone to develop depression which shows it is necessary for a sociocultural factors to be
involved. A study was done to determine the extent of the relationship between twins and the
genetic inheritance of depression. Nurnberger and Gershon (1982) conducted a study to reveal the
relationship between genes and depression (Miller 47). The study included a review of the results
of seven twins who suffered from depression. The concordance rates for depression were higher in
monozygotic twins, 65% average, than dizygotic twins, 14% average. Although the concordance
rates were higher in monozygotic twins, the concordance rate is still very low in comparison to
100%. Therefore, the study cannot definitely state anything that says genetic inheritance is 100%
responsible for the concordance rates without taking into considerations environmental and
psychological factors. The sociocultural level of analysis takes a

Banning Book
Should books be banned? Books are a gateway to a world of imagination, but some schools are
trying to shut those gates off by banning them. Books are some of the best teachers left, it s not up
to a school to decide what a child should or should not read. Banning books can deprive a child of
the opportunity to think. Books should not be banned because of the lessons they can teach, the
fact that a schoolshould not even be able to ban them, and it can deprive a child of the opportunity
to think. Books are some of the best teachers we have they teach us vocabulary social skills and
new ways of thinking (leigh). It s also true that textbooks could teach a child this, but not in the
way they would learn from a story. When a child is really engaged in a story they will learn a lot
more than they think. Books teach us history (leigh). and many books are based on certain time
periods or cover certain events. When a child reads these stories, they will retain the... Show more

It is reasonable for a book to be banned if it is just not suitable for children as in its mature
content. But if a book is being banned because of a parent who does not like the book or thinks it
is a touchy subject, then it is just not reasonable and there should not even be a discussion about
banning it. Parents who don t like specific books can have their kids opt out of an assignment
without infringing on the rights of others. (www.procon.org/headline.php?headlineID=005365).
There is no reason for a parent to try to have a book banned because they do not like the content in
the book. Also, the parent can choose to have their child not read the book without having it banned
from the whole school. Parents should censor their own child and not the entire

  • 2. Modernism In A Soldier s Home Modernist literature began between 1915 1935, writers mainly wrote fiction this is because they started to question what the future was going to bring since they were living through both World War. Modernists wrote their stories in first person which made their stories seem like a stream of consciousness, irony and satires. This type of literature was mainly written in English and became well known due to the increase of globalization, which was more about how the people felt about the events going on and how the people were affected in other words it spoke from the inner self of the writer. Many famous writers including Ernest Hemingway, Langston Hughes, and F. Scott Fitzgerald believed that the increase in new technology was leading to the decrease in civilization which was making individuals lonely.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. The X-Men Franchise My yet to be documented feelings of the X Men franchise can best be described as mixed. I am not as huge of a fan of the original trilogy as most people, and I actually prefer X Men Origins: Wolverine to any of those films. I do, however, very much like this newest trilogy, of which Apocalypse is the closing entry. (Alas, I haven t seen Deadpool ). That mixed feeling on the entire series applies to this installment, as well, although I am leaning positive on this one. X Men Apocalypse is set 10 years after the events of Days of Future Past (although only two years have passed in reality). Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) has become a cult figure adored by mutants, although she has gone off the radar. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) has devoted his time to his students at his school for gifted youngsters. Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender) has reinvented himself, becoming a simple industrial worker in Poland. Of course, all that changes when the titular villain (Oscar Isaac), the original mutant who also possess godlike abilities, awakens from a millennia long slumber. The X Men must reunite to combat this new foe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McAvoy is still a natural Xavier who has charisma and humor, but also conveys the moral might of the character. Filmspotting Madness Chmpaion Michael Fassbender is once again fantastic as Magneto. He s an absolute force of nature that exudes confidence, but he also delivers in his emotional moments. Lawrence is merely fine as Mystique. She is definitely phoning this one in, but even when she does that she is decent. Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast is good again, with earnestness and humor in abundance. Unfortunately, he isn t given much to do. Lastly, Evan Peters as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver is perfect. He is believable, charismatic and hilarious in a role he was born to ... • 4. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson Martin Luther King, Jr. and Lyndon B. Johnson demonstrated unimaginable leadership skills in an effort to accomplish their respective agendas. Through the use of moral leadership, King would rise to become the head of the Civil Rights Movement by means of civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance. MLK began as a Baptist Minister, but after seeing the difference he could make in the world, decided to stand up for what he felt was right. Johnson, on the other hand, used political leadership in order to make a name for himself as President of the United States. LBJ was willing to do whatever it took to accomplish his goals, even if it meant going against the Southern Democrats who had elected him to political office. One of these risks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Niebuhr believed that the world was full of evils and oppressions that individuals needed to fight against. People should not stand back and allow the horrors around them to continue, but instead fight back in whatever way they can. MLK would take these teachings and apply them to his ideas of Gandhi s nonviolent protests. Individuals who are in the minority, and thus unable to take drastic action, would benefit from the use of nonviolence. This strategy would allow Black Americans to seek justice and equality without truly disturbing the current relationship with White Americans. King s plan was to allow his religious and political ideals to run on the same moral edge, something that Reinhold Niebuhr had surely allowed for in his ideology (Branch, 81 7). Martin Luther King, Jr. was able to use this religious and moral idea of nonviolence to unite Black Americans who were tired of their oppression. Violence and drastic action had proven to arguably make their situation worse, meaning that something as different as peaceful civil disobedience could prove to work. By the time of the 1963 I Have a Dream speech at the March on Washington, King had become the voice of the various perspectives of life as a Black American. He now expressed the universal voice of all his people, and he was not afraid to use it in the pursuit of equality for Blacks (Branch, 881 3). • 6. Essay about Christian Teaching on Wealth and Poverty Coursework (a) (i) Outline Christian teaching on wealth and poverty. Christians do not think money is a bad thing. However, they believe the way money is earned and used is the issue. Most Christians believe that wealth is a gift from God to benefit others. Christians believe that all money belongs to God and he gives them stewardship of his money to use wisely. The Bible teaches, You cannot serve both God and money. (Matthew 6:24). For Christians this means that they must be careful not to replace their love for God with the love of money. Christian teaching on wealth and possessions varies slightly regarding the amount of money and possessions that should be given to the poor. Some Christians follow the teaching in (Mark ... That the poor were special to him and that their suffering would be rewarded in heaven. He also went on to say, The rich who ignored the suffering of the poor would be punished. One of Jesus most important teachings on poverty was in Matthew 25:31 46. To the affect Jesus said Whenever you help anyone in need you are helping me. Christians believe that when they help someone they are helping Jesus and that they will be rewarded for it. These are the main Christian teachings on wealth and poverty. (a) (ii) Explain why there is a need for world development. The worlds countries are split up into three factions: developed countries, less economically developed countries, (LEDCs), and the countries in between these two extremes. The majority of the countries in the North Hemisphere of the world are developed countries. Developed countries have an average annual income of above $9000. An example of a developed country is Great Britain. The majority of countries in the Southern Hemisphere are LEDCs. The average annual income for these countries is below $750. • 7. Katrina Sleepy Hollow During Washington Irving s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow , the main focus tends to be on Brom Van Brunt and Ichabod Crane. Yet it can be alluded that one never thought to question their love interest s, Katrina Van Tassel and her purpose for existing in the story. Katrina Van Tassel shows signs of being a convoluted and colluded industrialist; from using men, to using her wealth and beauty, and even down to her personality, Katrina proves to be the ultimate tease. Just like workers in the industry field use machines to make goods, it can be concluded that Katrina Van Tassel can use men to give her attention. Thinking back to the story, evidence can be found on page thirteen, from the moment Ichabod Cranemade his advances, her interests in the country farmer declined (Irving 13), as well as a line of the same page, a deadly blood feud... (Irving 20). Katrina is being manipulative with the men in her life, showing further that while witty, she can be vile as well. With Brom, it feels almost like Katrina had him wrapped around her finger. Free Fall And Projectile Motion Lab Report Freefall and Projectile Motion Introduction and Objectives This lab experiment was done to determine the characteristics of free fall and projectile motion in Physics. The motion in which a body is thrown or projected is called Projectile motion while free fall is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it, at least initially. In this experiment, a photogate, a chopper, and a Universal Lab Interface were used to determine the free fall motion of the chopper as it was released. A ball, carbon paper, and an L shape projector were also used to determine the range of projectile motion of a ball being released from a horizontal yet slightly vertical slope. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Respect In Society And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what, together, we can do for the freedom of man , states the revered and sound late President Kennedy, a man who truly believed in the cruciality of respect within and for the nation one inhabits. A society is not only the making up a community, but it is a factor reflecting the ideals of justice, morality, and the overall character of every individual within the given society. Without respect, without consideration for the greater good, there is simply no reasonable possibility of a prospering and flourishing society ever emerging. In this current world one experiences day in and day out, the slaughtering of the innocent, the unrelenting violence, the angst between races, and the lack of integrity all influence the declining of our once thriving nation, therefore causing a termination to the aspects of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This prevents the copying, distribution of, or plagiarism of copyrighted visual works. Most of these infringements occurs when someone sneaks some kind of recording device into a theater and records it there. For instance, if a teacher wants to show a movie about volcanos to his class, he can, as long as the movie was lawfully obtained by the teacher or the school administration. The Red Baron is a film directed by Nikolai Muellerschoen and produced by Niama Film which was released on April 10, 2008 but wasn t released in the US until March 19, 2010. This movie was based on a legendary German pilot who fought and died in World War 1. This pilot was known as Manfred von Richthofen. I believe that this film was nicely put together, the plot kept its viewers engaged and wanting to see what would happen next. In this essay I will be giving a brief explanation on the film and why it is or is not accurate and whether the producer did it on purpose or by mistake. At the beginning of the movie which takes place in 1906, Manfred is still a child. As a kid Manfred is out hunting with his younger brother Lothar von Richthofen and younger cousin, Wolfram Freiherr von Richthofen. Suddenly the sound of an airplane flying nearby flies over them. Amazed, Manfred jumps on his horse and follows the airplane with his arms spread out as though they were the wings of a plane themselves. This foreshadows him becoming a pilot in the future. After this scene the movies jumps ten years into the future which happens to be during World War 1. After the ten years have passed Manfred is a Lieutenant and is serving as a fighter pilot for the Imperial German Air Service. Lieutenant Richthofen is shown flying along the Western front where they drop a wreath over the funeral of an Allied pilot. He is remembered as the first president to ever come out of office through resignation in 1974. He stepped down halfway in his second term in office or faces the threat of impeachment due to the efforts to cover up illegal activities that members of his administration had engaged in the Watergate scandal. He served as a former congressman and a two terms as vice president under Dwight Eisenhower during the in1950s. He contested against democrat john f Kennedy for presidency in which he was defeated. In 1968 he decided to context again and this time round won the elections. He had a mixture of success and failures during his administration as the president of the United States of America. President Nixon had a track record in his first term in office despite the disgrace in his second term that led to his resignation. He pursued reforms in welfare, health care, civil rights energy as well as the environmental policy. He believed that the policies had been based on national standards and not the idiosyncratic whims of 50 states. When the congress defeated his welfare and health care programs, he created the office of management and budget and office of energy policy for advice on oil policy as well as supporting the clean air act of 1970. Global Financial Crisis Case Study Building it into the system: Firoozye One observed solution to the realised growth of Uncertainty (of all colours, up to and including Knightian, radical, Uncertainty) is to attempt to account for it within existent systems, whilst resisting paradigmatic change of the system environment as a whole. Through examination of the 2016 work of Firoozye and Ariff , Managing Uncertainty, Mitigating Risk, the logic, justification, and tools of one such approach will be elucidated. This is not Knightian Uncertainty, nor does it claim to be, but it is pertinent that this is the groundwork laid. The battle to eliminate Knightian Uncertainty at the top starts with that of collation and gathering of information to reduce less pernicious Uncertainty at the bottom. Central to this is the urge to classify, to create taxonomies so that, even in the instance where deep Uncertainty does emerge, everything else that can be known, is. This is a wider view than many others here, implicit in whose work is the assumption that Knightian Uncertainty is a constant, rather than a symptom of particularly complex environments. It is only through this mapping of classes of unknowns, and the gradual expansion of information about them, that Firoozye and Ariff aver we are able to manage Uncertainty and prepare for foreseeable outcomes Their demands on the traditional risk management methodologies in finance are broad, if not novel: widen historical data sets, ... By improving operational efficiency, AHA will be able to achieve greater long term success. The AHA would benefit from multiple lateral processes that would help execute on its strategic vision as well as day to day operations. At the same time, the community liaison, a new addition to the local office, would also benefit from the strategic coordination across all AHW events and would better represent the common vision and goals of the AHA. A second lateral process that promotes operational efficiency is e coordination. According to Musselwhite (2011) managers who are effective at motivating their direct reports reap the reward of employees who can handle a variety of assignments, work more autonomously, report higher levels of job satisfaction, and contribute more to the success of the department, the organization, and in return, to the success of their manager (p. 46). An equitable workplace shows increased productivity, decreased absenteeism, and less staff turnover. Equity theory in the workplace shows greatly in matters of wages (Sweeney, 1990). Goal Setting Theory Theory Description Goal setting theory developed in the 1960s and 1970s by Gary Latham and Edwin Locke promotes the notion that if a manager provides an employee with specific, challenging goals the worker tended to outperform a worker assigned a vague, non specific goal such as do the best you can. This theory relies on the manager s awareness of the skill level and abilities of all employees (Borkowski, 2005). Goal Setting Theory in the Workplace The concept of the goal setting theory necessitates planning in advance by management after a thorough thought process of the goal needing to be met and the resources, including employees, available to assist in the goal achievement. The three steps required by the goal setting theory, goal setting, goal commitment, and support elements, need careful consideration by the manager (Borkowski, 2005). • 20. Magic In Fantasy Mythology Magic and myth serve a multitude of roles in the fantasy genre. Magic is often used as a significant plot device and can exist in a fantasy work for several purposes; magic is used as a mode of enticement to peak the reader s interest and signifier of the genre, it is used to advance the plot, and, magic is also used as a device in which the author can explore real world concepts and contemporary concerns in a way that is both immediate, yet removed from reality. The incorporation of traditional mythology is also frequent in fantasyworks as they are a source of inspiration that also draws the reader s attention without requiring too much explanation for the audience to understand, they can also aid the work in becoming more relatable to the reader s own reality. The incorporation of mythology could have a religious agenda as in C.S. Lewis s The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lewis uses magic and the fantasy genre to incorporate Christian mythology and create a text which serves as an introduction to Christianity, in a way that he believes will interest children. The inclusion of mythology in fantasy fiction also connects the reader s own reality to the fictitious one in the text, making the text feel more applicable to the reader s own life. At the beginning of Animal Farm , power was used to achieve great things. It brought all animals of Manor Farm together but after an initial influence of power, it began to destroy the community that they had worked together to form. This can be seen by the character development of Napoleon who is thought to potray Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Unionduring the mid 1920 s. They were both leaders that abused their power and used ruthless methods to rule over the community. For instance, Napoleon and Stalin both abused their given power, one of the similarities between them was their act of violence. In the novella, Animal Farm by George orwell,... Their method was to fly up the rafters and there lay their eggs, which smashed to pieces on the floor.... He [Napoleon] ordered the hens rations to be stopped and decreed that any animal giving so much as a grain of corn to a hen should be punished by death (pg.68). This means that Napoleon killed all the chickens because they didn t want to give them anymore eggs. Napoleon never consulted with the hens to give up their products. This is to symbolise what Stalin did in the past when he wanted to take the lands away from profiting farmers because private property is against the government and socialism. Both of them tried to control the food production and would not mind killing to get the production process smoother. Furthermore, both dictators ruled over their subjects with an iron hand. Orwell states, ...but it was cruel work, and the animals could not feel so hopeful about it as they had felt before. They were always cold and usually hungry as well (pg 66). Weathering of exposed granite is slow because weathering depends on whether there is moisture or not. Edges and corners of joint granite blocks are more affected when weathering occurs. Unweathered remains of granite turns into rounded boulders. Small natural depressions turn into weather pit when water collects in a depression on granitic surfaces. A possible explanation for weathering is that alternate wetting and drying along the pools that collect in the pans. Without the United States, hip hop in Cuba certainly would not be where it is today. The United States is the hub of hip hop and helped to jumpstart hip hop in Cuba. While this is true, hip hop in the United States completely differs from that of Cuba for the better. Even though hip hop in Cuba did not start from much, the amount of development and influence this music has towards Cuba is immeasurable. Around 1970, 44 years ago, hip hop emerged in the West Bronx of New York. The culture of hip hop incorporates many aspects besides just the music itself, such as DJing, graffiti, breakdancing, and urban fashion. Hip hop mainly started from DJ s separating the break in rock, funk and other types of songs, as well as the MC playing a major role in the development of hip hop. In between the songs that the DJ was playing, the MC would speak in between the songs, make jokes and many other actions in order to get the crowd riled up. This eventually led up to the practice of hip hop to become more conventional, resulting in the forming of hip hop. Kool DJ Herc did all of this in 1970, who is believed to be the one who started the emergence of hip hop. As the book states, Proactive people are aware that they can t control everything that happens to them, but they can control what they do about it. The opposite of being proactive is being reactive, which is what the book is trying to steer you away from. Reactive people act on feelings and don t take the time to assess the situation. The poem, God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins is an Italian sonnet, which closely follows the traditional Italian rhyme of ABBAABBA, and then CDCDCD. (Shmoop) There are also several words throughout the poem that rhyme within themselves. For example God, rod, trod, shod all rhyme. Gerard Hopkins liked to use sprung rhythmin which the stressed and unstressed syllables have a complicated relationship, and the message desired from the reader can change the rhythm. (Shmoop) Sprung rhythm allows each person to read the poem differently and take away what they wish. The speaker of this poem has lost faith in humanity and their treatment of the world God had granted us. However, in the second half of the poem, the speaker shows his views of the world and its connection to God. In the first stanza of God s Grandeur, the speaker is amazed at the greatness of God. However, he is dismayed by the way people treat God s creation. God himself directed humans to care for their world. Genesis 2:15 says, The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis) Mankind s treatment of the Earth obviously did not measure up to the standard that the speaker has envisioned. This is clearly visible in lines four through seven, Why do men then now not reck his rod? First, is the Diathesis and Stress model, which proposes that depression, results from the interaction of personal vulnerabilities and stressful events or circumstances. Therefore, if Conrad was susceptible either due to genetics or temperament his brother s death could have been the stressor that resulted in his depression. Genetic variants have a small effect on overall risks of developing diseases and disorders but a need for environmental factors as well is required to develop disorders such as depression. From the biological approach, an issue arises with the claims that genes have the ability to cause depression due to the fact that studies have shown no single gene has the power alone to cause someone to develop depression which shows it is necessary for a sociocultural factors to be involved. A study was done to determine the extent of the relationship between twins and the genetic inheritance of depression.
