Linear Regression Model Based On Recursive Feature...
last and the first 10 seconds of elbow flexion and extension task. And the number of flexion/extension
was also counted as the 31st feature. More detailed description of the features and their calculations
are provided in Figure 3 and Table 1.
We compared features between two groups, non frail and frail, categorized by TSFI (frail was
identified when TSFI is over 0.27). One way ANOVA was employed for comparing two groups. And
the features which have significantly difference (p 0.05) between groups were preselected for
designing a model in order to select optimum parameters.
Optimum Feature Selection Based on Recursive Feature Elimination
Algorithm for optimum selection of parameters was based on linear regression modeling including ...

4) Then, the accuracy of the redesigned model was calculated to identify frailty. 5) And, this procedure
was repeated when the last feature is removed for redesigning the model. 6) All accuracy values were
compared. 7) If an accuracy value related to a feature excluded for modeling is the lowest, the feature
was eliminated. 8) After that, the same procedure was repeated without the eliminated feature by 1) to
7) until only one feature remained after eliminating features. 9) Finally, the number of features were
selected based on the performance of the model evaluated by the recursive feature elimination for
selecting the best model to identify frailty.
Evaluation of algorithm performance
Performance of the algorithm was evaluated using the validation set. We calculated the sensitivity,
specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and accuracy as follows:
Sensitivity (1)
Specificity (2)
Positive predictive value (3)
Negative predictive value (4)
Accuracy (5)
where true positive (TP) represents the number of correctly identified frail, false negative (FN)
indicates the number of missed frail, true negative (TN) refers to the number of correctly identified
nonfrail and false positive (FP) stands for the number incorrectly identified as nonfrail. The area under
the ROC curve (AUC) was also calculated as an additional evaluation of the performance. In this

Social Darwinism And Its Impact On Society
Social Darwinism was a concept that was an accepted theory in the nineteenth century. It originated
from Charles Darwin, which stated survival of the fittest , meaning the poor and weak were going to
die and that the rich and powerful received more power and growth. However, even though Charles
came up with the idea of Social Darwinism, he had other social Darwinists who actually grasped the
entire concept of Darwinism and applied it to Social Sciences. Social Darwinists like Herbert Spencer
who believed that the government should not try to change any type of social environment because it
would hurt the process of nature. An important aspect of Social Darwinism is the Cultural one, which
goes through Religion, Art, and music. Religion being something that people in society believe in and
followed wholeheartedly. Art has a range of paintings, drawings, and sculptures from artists who were
influenced by Darwin. Music has always been a part of peoples lives and many different artists that
occurred before and after Darwin.
Religion was an important issue that many people adhered to for the way of life. Herbert Spencer
preached family loyalty, personal providence, family responsibility, hard work, and proud self
sufficiency which were middle class virtues. In the nineteen century biblical criticism and religion of a
fundamental faith prepared many Americans for the acceptance of Darwinism. Religion has always
been something that people for many centuries have

Unit 1 Assignment 1 Case Studies Of Endearment
Endearment, something that endears: an action or utterance showing affection and to makes dear,
esteemed, or beloved. These terms all have a positive connotation and are seen in an affectionate view
when used in any setting. In comparison, the n word is defined as a contemptuous term used to refer to
a person of any racial or ethnic origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc. and a victim of
prejudice similar to that suffered by blacks; a person who is economical, politically, or socially
disenfranchised. These two words are in no way viewed, in the literary sense, on the same end of the
spectrum yet in this particular article those involved see them as interchangeable. The feelings and
emotions that accompany this term are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would establish a discussion forum that addressed both this particular racial slur and others in the
classroom setting. I would first gather resources and research relating to specific race relations and
racial slurs in the environment and the challenges that have been presented. Secondly, I would request
assistance in establishing a board/forum of students, teachers, administrators, and parents who would
be willing to discuss this issues collectively with positive results being the ultimate goal. I would
utilize this forum on a regular basis and not just during periods of tension. Keeping communication
open about these types of situations takes some of the apprehension and anger out of them when they
present themselves in our everyday lives. My rationale in this is that the challenges that face society
today are hindered by silence. When a person or group feels that they do not have a voice, it hinders
their ability to participate actively and productively in these types

Dojo Observation
The dojo I visited is the dojo Buena Park known as Chushinkan Dojo which is taught by Nakayama
Sensei. I visited the dojo on Thursday, November 12, 2015. I did have general observations of the
dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido
concept I have not experienced before. There was a technique I found interesting. There was not much
a difference in learning from CSUF and the dojo. The most interesting part of my visit was watching
students test.
I had general observations about the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. The dojo did not
have its own property and was inside a community center, this was something I did not expect. In this
Aikido course in CSUF, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some students did better than others which is usual for testings. In the Aikido course I remember
when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and
are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what
Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do
testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course.
The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to
applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This
applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that
people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it.
I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in
techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals
are serious with Aikido. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not
experienced before. I admire how Aikido is usually done not for profit but for sharing Aikido with
others, which is seen when the dojo is in a community center. The dojo visit was actually an
interesting experience

Public Transportation Bill Essay
Background Public transportation is serious need of a massive overhaul in this nation. We are in
desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe,
citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public
transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is
because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the
government to where ever they need to go. They have set a model that the United States needs to
strive for and meet in the near future. The government is pouring billions of dollars every year to
sustain and attempt to fix the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have to become more responsible in our way of life and realize that oil will soon run out at current
rates and we have to embrace public transportation now if we are to succeed in the upcoming future.
Also, our goal is to make this a greener nation. By reducing the number of cars on the road and
making it possible for every citizen to have access to public transportation, we can reach this goal. It is
our duty and responsibility to take care of the planet and make sure that we do not cause our own
destruction. Reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses will put our nation on the right path
for the future.
Our Plan With the overall objective in mind of providing public transportation to all Americans, we
have to understand all of the different modes of transportation that need to be reconstructed and
funded properly. America is a geographically diverse nation and all need to be taken into account to
meet the growing demand of transportation over these differing regions. First off, we have to address
states that must begin to rely on ferry transport across bodies of water. The ferry system needs
adequate funding so that commuters can cross bodies of water such as the Puget Sound and
Chesapeake Bay. Docks, landings, ferry boats, and employees will all need funding to ensure that this
happens. Water public transportation is an unutilized territory and in this growing age we hope to help
it strive. We plan to rebuild ferry landings

Branagh s Hamlet
Hamlet, one of the most intricate and influential plays by Shakespeare, debatably of all time. It has
inspired not only appreciative readers and writing critiques but continuous generations of people. The
inspiration led to the fabrication of many great movies, which wasn t achievable until the 20th century.
Before cinema was the prevalent method of sharing appreciation and spilling emotion for a specific
subject, art portrayed what would fly through our minds such as the many interpretations of Ophelia s
death. With the imagery put into motion we can try and pick apart how certain people might view the
play being portrayed and choose what best suits our expectation of this tragedy. Other things that only
film has been able to present to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film that surpassed all my expectations and gave me exactly what I wanted to see was Kenneth
Branagh s Hamlet. The way I would picture King Hamlets great castle of Denmark came up exactly
the way I thought it would. The 1800 s setting presented in this film gave it more of a professional feel
to it and I loved the vibrant colours throughout the movie. So even though the play is suppose to give
off a gloomy atmosphere, dealing with the concept of suicide, the vibrancy of every scene would grab
your attention away from the themes for a few seconds. It lets you take in the beautiful scenery and
how the play should ve been set up if it did take place in the real world. Scenes such as the burial of
Ophelia, where the imagery and setting change from the graveyard to Hamlets old memories of
Yorick, the contrasts between such vibrant scenes and darker ones mix and interlace beautifully. This
is something that neither Zeffirelli nor Almereyda were able to accomplish in their films. In Zaferelli s
Hamlet the imagery presented throughout was not more than what the settings it could not portray. It
didn t properly grasp more than the generic medieval atmosphere. It would ve been a lot more
successful to include more clips of what life would ve been like for Hamlet and the people of
Denmark. In Almereyda s version it wasn t really his fault for not presenting more imagery of the play
because it was set in modern times, and we have seen countless movies and clips of

Similarities Between Kfc And Mcdonalds
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of the following report is to compare the contribution towards social responsibility of two
competing fast food franchises in South Africa, namely KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and
McDonald s.
This comparative study will give insight into background information concerning the two franchises:
how they were formed, their mission, their vision, as well as their objectives. The background
information will then be followed by a comparative study of how both franchises contribute towards
social responsibility in the form of charity contributions, scholarships and sport sponsorship.
The Companies Act has been incorporated with sections of the King Code to form what is known as
integrated reporting. It stipulates that in order for a business to be successful, it must understand the
economic, social and environmental context it operates in. Nowadays, company success is not solely
based the amount of profit earned, but it includes how the business contributes in society, a term
known as corporate citizenship. This study will evaluate the corporate citizenship of both franchises to
compare their fairness, transparency, responsibility and accountability when dealing with society as a
whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

business model in the corporate governance area. This is due to the fact that alterations in company

Chesley B. Sullenberger s The Banality Of Heroism
The weight of the world was on his shoulders. One wrong move and many could die, but one correct
move and he could save countless numbers of people. He could panic or run from his trouble, or he
could embrace it. Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger was a true hero while flying and landing a plane with
no working engines. In the two texts, The Banality of Heroism , and , A Hudson River Hero , he had to
make a quick, stressful decision, he was selfless, and he remained brave and calm in time of panic.
Sully is a hero because he had to make a split second decision that would result in lives saved or lost.
In the text, The Banality of Heroism , the author has several ideas of what exactly heroism is, Heroism
may be an instantaneous reaction to a situation . This relates to Sully because he could have made the
wrong decision by landing the plane in the wrong spot and hurt many people. However, he focused
and made a good decision. In the text, A Hudson River Hero , Sullenberger knew that he had to make
a quick decision in order to get the plane out of the air safely. This confirms that Sully is a hero
because he had to face the odds and try to land the plane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

if anyone was left behind. In the text, A Hudson River Hero , the author states, Even then, after
everything he had done to land the plane without jeopardizing lives, Sullenberger was checking to be

hero because he wasn t selfish and just got out of the plane, but he made sure that everyone else was

Mackinnon Virtues
We have learned about Virtue which focuses on individual traits while ethics is a more general
approach to how people handle what s right and what s wrong. In the same unit we learned Mackinnon
defined Virtue ethics as being focused on individual traits. On the other hand other theories take a
general focus on how we decided what s right and wrong.
Mackinnon defines virtues as having good traits while the term virtuous is defined as a morally good
person. Most of the theories that we have studied thus far have a universal approach to ethics, and don
t account for individuality. For example Utilitarianism we learned to be defined as something is good
when it does the most good for the most people. This theory is not one that accounts for the ... Show

Came First Church
P Which came first, the Church or the mission of the Church? How do you answer that question?
When I have asked people that question, they usually answer the Church. We experience the Church
before we understand mission. We go to church. We worship in church. We come to know and grow in
our faith through the Church. People point out that the Holy Spirit came upon the 120 followers of
Christ in the Upper Room 10 days after Christ s Ascension. When the window opened and Peter gave
his first sermon, the Church began. What is often forgotten is what occurred 10 days before Pentecost.
For that we read Matthew 28:19 20, the last words Jesus spoke to his followers: Go, therefore, and
make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you... Jesus gave his followers a
mission, which preceded the formation of the Church. The formation of the Church would evolve
later, as we read about in the Acts of the Apostles. The mission, given by Christ, preceded the Church,
and the Church emerged from that mission.
If we take a moment and return to that rocky mountaintop in Matthew 28:19 20. Feel the breeze. Feel
the rocky soil under your feet. Hear all the people speaking around you. Be aware that Jesus is
standing there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Escobar says that the heart of mission is the drive to share the good news wit all, to cross every

an oral liturgy, narrative preaching, uninhibited emotionalism, maximum participation in prayer and
worship, dreams and vision, faith healing, and an intense search for community and belonging. As a

Research Paper On Chemotherapy
Should Chemo Be The Only Option?
Chemotherapy began in the 20th century. Chemotherapy is a drug treatment used to get rid of
diseases. Chemotherapy is intended to shrink the cancerous tumor and attempt to rid of any cancer in
the body. Patients who undergo this treatment often have side effects including ; destroying their
immune system, increasing their neurocognitive decline, it disrupts endocrine functioning and causes
organ and metabolic toxicities.Well aware of these side effects, most cancer patients tend to not want
to use chemotherapy. As a cancer patient under the legal age it can become difficult to refuse
treatment, and even harder to use alternate treatment.

Some patients or parents of patients believe chemotherapy is not the answer , such as Hauser and
Becker. Chemotherapy works by destroying dividing cells, but while attacking the cancer cells; it also
attacks your hair, skin, and blood cells. Many people believe chemo will ruin their immune system
and sicken their body more. Chemotherapy can make you feel nauseated and make you throw up. It
can make your hair fall out. It can temporarily depress the immune system. It can cause bleeding
complications, such as GI bleeding. It can cause kidney damage. It can cause heart damage. It can
cause lung damage. It can cause nerve damage. It can make you lose weight. It can even result in your
death from complications. (David Gorski).Patients often choose to do their own treatment to replace
chemotherapy or they do it while doing chemo as well. A alternate treatment is the use of marijuana
oil. There s some support showing they can reduce chemotherapy related pain and other symptoms
like vomiting and nausea in patients. Elsewhere, other research has shown cannabinoids can uniquely
target and kill cancer cells (Ed Cara). The issue with patients using this alternate treatment is that
insurance does not want to support the cost of it when there is chemotherapy and radiation. Patients
who decide to use this can cost them up to $1000 a month. Although marijuana is becoming legal in
most states , insurance companies refuse to pay for the use of

Naturalism In The Gilded Age
In 1865 through 1914, roughly the same time period that is considered the Gilded Age, two literary
movements were introduced. Realism and naturalism have similarities and they have their differences.
Both have very basic views on humanity and religion is absent from both movements. They focused
on the real world instead. Realism, though, let writers voice their opinions, concerns, struggles and
focused on literary technique. It had a faithful representation on life. Naturalism, on the other hand,
was the other literary movement happening in this time period. Naturalism started a few years later
around 1880 and lasted around 1915 like realism. Naturalism focuses on lower class, a sort of battle
for survival , and that an individual cannot escape ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crane continues to show the scene of Maggie s apartment as she compares her lifestyle to Pete,
Turning, Maggie contemplated the dark, dust stained walls, and the scant and crude furniture of her
home...Some faint attempts she had made with blue ribbon, to freshen the appearance of a dingy
curtain, she now saw to be piteous (Crane 1017). Her problem is that she over thinks it all and
everything starts to look bad. The more she falls in love with Pete, the worse her apartment looks to
her throwing her deeper into despair. Being in a lower class more often than not, comes with poverty.
With the idea of what class, you are born into shapes what class you will continue to live in and how
you will live, Maggie and her family learned a method of scraping by. It seems to be effective enough
because they do eat, just not in the French style that included nine separate courses. When a lower
class family, like Maggie s, hosts a dinner party the guests eat a four course meal: soup fish, meat, and
dessert. Crane explains how Maggie went to a different neighborhood to beg for change in the third
chapter of his story, She received daily a small sum in pennies. It was contributed, for the most part,
by persons who did not make their homes in that vicinity (Crane 1010). Maggie would not get very far

Women And Gender During 20th Century America

Title:

Women and gender In 20th Century America
Abstract
Paid work for women moved from principally customary female situated employments to all the more
non conventional and already male arranged vocations. Ladies support in the workforce prompted
them to start careers in the field dominated by male in the 20th century. Career yearnings were
affected by elements, such as sexual orientation, financial status, race, occupation and instruction
level, and parental desires. This paper exhibits how women developed, changed and the challenges
they faced in the 20th century in America in the workforce and the advancement of ladies careers,
improvement and profession goals during the 20th century in United States. Also, gender issues
affecting women will be discussed in details during this period and how women played their role in
fighting for their rights.
Thesis Statement
Ladies legislative issues in the 20th Century came to past self characterized women s activists, as
conventional ladies associations handled issues of important to ladies regular lives. An examination of
the positions and moves on welfare change made the researchers and feminist through Voters and the

class women disregarded the issues of poor ladies and highlights a discriminating defining moment in
American progressivism. The League s activism uncovers the profundity and

The Key To Successful Relationships
The key to successful relationships is the ability to express one s thoughts, ideas and feelings clearly,
utilizing respectful language and behaviour without undue anxiety at the expense of others. Assertive
communication is the skill to convey messages to patients, families, and other colleagues in a positive,
caring, nonjudgmental, and direct manner that aims to acknowledge the needs of others and oneself
(Balzer Riley, 2012, p. 4). Working as a support worker with the older adults is definitely a challenge.
In my culture, it is emphasized to respect someone who is older than me; and saying no to an older

Student Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
On April 4, 2017, I attended the Student Jazz Ensemble at the State University of New York at New

concert series performed by the students from our college. Although the concert was not performed as
the professional concerts held in famous places, it was great opportunity for the campus community to
listen that kind of musical activity. I have attended the same Jazz Ensemble concert in the previous
spring semester because one of my friends from Turkey was playing saxophone during the
performance like he did in this performance.
The Jazz Ensemble was composed of eleven students and they played different music during the
concert. They played music based on classic jazz pieces and some of the pieces were familiar to me
because I remember them from my past experience. The instruments were regular for a jazz band,
however, I have never take attention before, so, listening these different instruments voices in a very
harmonized way was amazing. There was a trumpet player, two vocals, electric and acoustic guitarists,

Did Marco Polo Go To China
Tiffany Tran

Dear Editor, Everyone has been wondering if Marco Polo ever went to China. There has been proof
that he did go to China and proof that he did not. Years after Marco Polo s legendary travels, scholars
debate whether the famous explorer ever reached went further than the Black Sea, yet China. I believe
that Marco Polo did go to China because of all the evidence I have heard and seen. Marco Polo was
born in the 1200s. He was born into a family tradesmen and his education was like a merchant s.
Around the age of 15, his father left on a journey for 9 years and during those years his mom dies.
When he was 20 years old, he started his journey. He passes through a powerful desert towards the
east and was soon by the border of China. Marco was brought to the emperor and returns home after
12 years. According to Polo, cowries, salt, gold and silver were the main currencies in other parts of
China, such as Fujian and Yunnan. The Venetian traveler s description of salt production was also
accurate and unique. Not only did he list the most important salt production centers, but he described
the methods used to make salt and detailed the value of salt production. This and other information,
the accuracy of which has not yet been fully appreciated, indicate that Marco Polo really did ... Show

The Vikings were known for being marvelous explorers and the authors of the sagas may have wanted
to demonstrate why the Vikings were these great explorers by writing about the various new lands that
they had discovered. Another reason why the authors wrote the Vinland Sags may have been to honor
their ancestors and heritage since the sagas is directed towards an audience of Norse people. These
sagas can be viewed as historical texts by the Norse people of Greenland and Iceland to explain the
history of their culture. For example, the audience can understand why Leif Eirikson spread
Christianity in Greenland, which can also explain why the people of Greenland practice the faith that
they do.
The Vinland Sagas take place between 970 to 1280 CE, but were not written down by scholars until
the thirteenth century. When it comes down to questioning the reliability of the Vinland Sagas, it
ultimately depends on asking what the Vinland Sagas are reliable for. One can see this as a reliable
source to understand how the Norse people created their societies and settlements.
Problems will occur with all historical documents. When it comes to the Vinland Sagas, one problem

Abstract
Attribute reduction is a challenge in that is has a big e ect on classiļ¬cation accuracy as the classiļ¬er
training time, complexity and running time increases as a number of attributes used increases.
Commonly attributes in a given data set are correlated, noisy and redundant. In this work, a system for
attribute reduction was proposed making use of ļ¬lter based attribute reduction using the correlation
based attribute reduction. The cuckoo search optimizer was used to search the attribute space of
attribute set with minimum correlation among selected attributes. By running the cuckoo search for a
predetermined ratio of iterations, the selected attribute sets are reevaluated using a new ļ¬tness
function based on wrapper based attribute reduction. The initial agents/solutions for this second stage
of optimization are guaranteed to have minor correlation and hence are the candidate for further
improvement towards the classiļ¬cation accuracy ļ¬tness function. So, the cuckoo search completes the
rest of optimization steps with the initial

Amy Tan Fish Cheeks Essay
Fish Cheeks
The essay Fish Cheeks by Amy Tan takes place in her teenage years and it s about something that
happened at that time. On the day of Christmas Eve, Amy s mother invites the minister and his family
over, who are Americans, so that both families can celebrate together. For dinner that Christmas, Amy
s mom had prepared all of her favorite foods (like fish cheeks). However, even though her favorite
foods were served, she constantly felt mortified through out the night. From the love of her life, also
known as the minister s son, Robert, who was at the dinner table, all the way to the cultural
differences in manners caused Tan to depreciate her family traditions on that Christmas dinner because
she was unaware of what the American family was thinking of her Chinese traditional dinner.
However as we age and become older we also gain a lot of wisdom and understanding of the reality
we live in through hard times and challenging situations, which we witness happening with Tan in her
essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the essay, I noticed that Tan reveals some of her insecurities by exposing thought
shots. She would constantly feel embarrassed from the moment the American family arrives all
through the very end of Christmas Eve dinner. Considering the smelly and gross looking Chinese
traditional dishes also the loud and weird acting relatives, I witnessed a good imagery from the way
Amy describes them. The main concerns to Tan are how and what the American family thinks of them.
In my life I also struggled with internally wanting approval from the others however I got over it by
realizing that the external reality cannot control how I feel. Later on in the story her mother gets to
explain how to deal with her emotions and shows her compassion with understanding of the horrible
things she felt that dinner

White House In The 1800s
White House The building of the white house has a rich history through out its war campaigns and the
burning of the white house. The White House is a symbol for our nation and it is a very intricate piece
to our society. The first stone was laid on October 13, 1792. It took eight years to finish enough of the
house to make it livable. The Capitol Building wasn t completed yet, and congressmen lived in
boardinghouses surrounded by farmland. John Adams, the second president of the United States,
moved into a cold, damp White House in November 1800.

European Achievements In West Europe
Before the arrival of Europeans in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the African kingdoms and
cities had a multitude of achievements. These come from different areas, like trade and wealth, and
added to the quality of life and functionality of the respective kingdom. The African empire s
achievements were successful in the advancement of civilization. In West Africa, the kingdoms
Ghana, Mali, and Songhai gained wealth and power through their achievements. Significantly, this
would change during the fifteenth and sixteenth with the introduction of the slave trade. However,
prior to the arrival of Europeans, the African empires had prevalent achievements in traditional
societal and political structures, wealth and luxury, and trade and harvesting.
The African empires developed societal and political structures that improved its functionality.
Songhai was under the rule of Sunni Ali until his death where Askia Muhammed Toure became king
after leading a revolt against Ali s son. He expanded the empire greatly until it extended northward,
westward, and eastward to trading cities. Notably, Toure improved the political and societal structure
of his empire. He opted for a centralized administration, and organized a bureaucracy. A centralized
administration created power and organization to the Songhai empire, allowing it to function
efficiently. Additionally, a bureaucracy assisted in regulating trade. The regulation of trade allows for
the empire the flourish and increase in wealth. Also, Africans organized their societies around the
family unit much like how Askia Muhammed Toure replaced the chiefs with members of his family
(Khan Academy). Similarly, the kingdom of Ghana showed characteristics of political and societal
structure as recorded in Through African Eyes. The excerpt states that, It possessed... social
organization that ensured justice and efficient political control, a strong army equipped with advanced
weapons, and a foreign policy that led to peace and cooperation with other people. (Document 3).
Through Arab sources, Ghana is mentioned having a king and officials who surrounded the throne
(Time Maps). Many of these characteristics are evident of advanced civilization and modern political

The first process of choosing the right information system for SUC is defining the goals of the
organization. The first goal is to provide safe, quality healthcare to patients. The second goal is to
maintain the necessary financial stability to provide that care. Another important goal is to maintain
accurate and secure information within the organization as well as to outside entities as necessary.
Investigating, or attaining a clear understanding of how to achieve these goals is the first step.
Defining what the system must do to achieve these goals, or system analysis, is the next step. System
design will then need to be done to determine how to meet these goals. System implementation is the
next step. This occurs when the components that were determined in the implementation step are
created or obtained. System maintenance and review is the last on going step that will maintain the
organization and determine what modifications are needed to continually meet the company goals.
To determine the effectiveness of the chosen information system, SUC will use the collective
information gathered by people, procedures, databases, and devices within the organization, which is
known as using the Management Information System (MIS). This process begins with decision
making. There are three stages in decision making: intelligence, design, and choice. Problems are
discovered and information of what has caused the problem or what is needed

Scout is not very caring or brave. She is not caring because she does not think about others feelings

Charlie Gordon In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon
Daniel Keyes, in the story Flowers for Algernon , portrayed hope for a mentally disabled man, Charlie
Gordon. The operation that had the intention of helping Charlie to become a normal person had quite
the opposite effect. After the operation, Charlie became much smarter, at which point he realized how
different socially he was from his peers. His friends make fun of him, his coworkers want him to be
fired, made a saying that belittles him, and seeing a mentally impaired waiter at a restaurant leads him
to comprehend that he would never be the same as his peers. Another effect of Charlie s increase in
intelligence is that he knows how little Dr.Nemur and Dr.Strauss care about him. They did not tell him
about the potential dangerous side effects of the surgery, and thought of him as a lesser human being;
they went ahead with the surgery because they believed society ... Show more content on

Charlie wanted the doctors to choose him, because on some level he knew how atypical he was. From
the doctors perspective, the opportunity to make Charlie normal superseded his life; this is why they
neglected to tell him about the possible side effects of the operation. Disturbingly, the doctors knew
that Charlie could regress to his former state and possibly die; they decided not to inform him of this
fact because they wanted the recognition and praise that would be showered upon them if Charlie s
operation was a success. Charlie s impairment did not diminish his worth as a human being, but during
the experiment he was equated to a mouse, Algernon. The all encompassing reason for the doctors
wanting to fix Charlie was that they thought society would benefit. They wanted him to become, as
they perceived to be, normal, and to become a functioning member of society. At the expense of
Charlie s health and wellbeing, the doctors experimented on him, and treated him as if he was less of a

To Build A Fire Literary Analysis
To Build a Fire by Jack London, is about a man who is unnamed, who travels from the Yukon trail on
a deathly cold morning with a wolf dog to meet up with his friends at a camp at Henderson Creek. The
man is advised by a wise old man to not travel alone in such weather when it is extremely cold. But
the man doesn t pay attention to the little things and disregards the warnings and continues his
journey. The central idea suggests a broad theme of man versus nature. Jackson shows this idea
through intellectual (traveler) versus instinctive (wolf dog). The travelers lack of recognition for
instinctive decisions leads him on the path of self destruction and death.

The old man at Sulphur Creek provides a supporting role in the story. He is repeatedly brought up
throughout the story when the traveler recalls the advice he was given. The man was extremely serious
when he said that no man should travel alone (Jackson ). His advice and warning are what creates
tension to the story. The traveler brushes off the old man s advice and says the old man probably
couldn t do handle it because old men are womanish (Jackson ). As the traveler continues his journey
he realizes that being alone and traveling in such cold weather is dangerous. When he makes the fire
the first time he makes it under a pine tree. The snow from the tree falls on the fire taking away the
warmth he needed to reheat his body. The second time he tries to make the fire he couldn t hold on to
the matches. The matches fell on the floor and he says how if he had a companion on the trail he
would be in no danger (Jackson ). He recalls how if he was traveling with someone the companion
could have built the fire. Now, he must build the fire again, and this second time he must not fail
(Jackson). Later, he says perhaps the old man on Sulphur Creek was right. If he had a companion on
the trail he would be in no danger now (Jackson ). He also understands how the world is more
instinctual instead of intellectual. He doesn t realize until later that there might be a situation which he

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, we learn of the many hardships and
highs Romeo and Juliet go through over the course of the story. The play Romeo and Juliet is based
off two star crossed lovers who are separated from each other due to a feud between their two
families. Their love is so strong that at the end of the story Romeo and Juliet both end up committing
suicide because they can t live without each other. Whether it is problems with love, or them
complimenting each other on how they feel about the other person, Shakespeare uses many literary
devices to make the reader dig deeper into the context to find the meaning behind the sentence. Some
of the literary devices are; similes, metaphors, and personification. Shakespeare uses several examples
of metaphors to describe how people feel about something or someone, a metaphor is a comparison
between two unlike things that actually have something in common. A metaphor is heard when the
nurse says, A man, young lady; lady, such a man As all the world why he s a man of wax. (I.iii.76)The
metaphor is showed when the nurse is comparing Paris to wax. Wax is being used as meaning
beautiful. Wax is used as the example due to the fact wax is sculpted to perfection. The nurse is really
trying to tell Juliet that Paris is a beautiful looking man. An instance in which we hear another
metaphor is when the nurse is talking to Juliet about Paris. The nurse says, To beautify him only lacks

Noise pollution cannot be fully eliminated but as stated before, it can be reduced to an acceptable

mitigated by different techniques and methods, which are as follows.
Design changes: Reduction of noise at the source such as exhausts from aircrafts and ground vehicles,
airframe noise and power plants via noise reduction technologies. Especially regarding aircrafts, they
have become quitter over the years as the technological advancement in propulsion system of the
aircraft has allowed the manufacturers to build less noisy aircrafts compared to its predecessors [9]. A

The use of beta blockers to slow the heart rate may benefit patients who have episodes of tachycardia,
or rapid heartbeats, with the mitral valve prolapse. Unless it has progressed to something severe, the
patientwill probably not need treatment. If it has become severe, then the patient can benefit from
surgery to repair or replace the leaky valve. Although it sounds scary, it is a condition that can be
managed quite easily and the patient can live a normal lifestyle without any impairment or major

Before the revolution, king after king ruled over France with full power, and often did not take into
consideration the people s thoughts, beliefs, and opinions. Throughout the revolution, citizens from
the third estate began bringing attention to themselves and fighting for what they wanted, starting to
let their voices be heard. On July 14th, 1789, many suppressed french peasants intensely stormed the
Bastille, an important prison in France, and also captured, imprisoned, and killed french royalty to
show their anger against how they had been previously treated. This act forced King Louis VI to pay
attention to these threats from the lower class, and minimize power in the high society. Also, this was
one of the first key events that led to the french revolution s success, and the abolition of the
monarchy. Later, on October 4th in 1789, an important march took place, in which a great amount of
hungry, angry women marched towards Versailles demanding bread. The king and queen were once
again forced to recognize this event led by unhappy lower class parisians, and moved from Versailles

denied. During the war between America and Spain, America illustrated its imperialistic views when it

And the number of flexion/extension was also counted as the 31st feature. More detailed description of the features and their calculations are provided in Figure 3 and Table 1. We compared features between two groups, non frail and frail, categorized by TSFI (frail was identified when TSFI is over 0.27). One way ANOVA was employed for comparing two groups. And the features which have significantly difference (p 0.05) between groups were preselected for designing a model in order to select optimum parameters. • 3. Social Darwinism And Its Impact On Society Social Darwinism was a concept that was an accepted theory in the nineteenth century. It originated from Charles Darwin, which stated survival of the fittest , meaning the poor and weak were going to die and that the rich and powerful received more power and growth. However, even though Charles came up with the idea of Social Darwinism, he had other social Darwinists who actually grasped the entire concept of Darwinism and applied it to Social Sciences. Social Darwinists like Herbert Spencer who believed that the government should not try to change any type of social environment because it would hurt the process of nature. An important aspect of Social Darwinism is the Cultural one, which goes through Religion, Art, and music. Religion being something that people in society believe in and followed wholeheartedly. Art has a range of paintings, drawings, and sculptures from artists who were influenced by Darwin. Music has always been a part of peoples lives and many different artists that occurred before and after Darwin. Religion was an important issue that many people adhered to for the way of life. In the Aikido course I remember when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it. I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals are serious with Aikido. We are in desperate need to catch up to the European standard of public transportation in this country. In Europe, citizens can travel across cities, bodies of water, and even counties with their state of the art public transportation system. Europeans are not nearly as reliant on cars and oil as the United States is because they have the much more practical option of taking the transportation provided to them by the government to where ever they need to go. It is our duty and responsibility to take care of the planet and make sure that we do not cause our own destruction. Reducing carbon emissions and greenhouse gasses will put our nation on the right path for the future. America is a geographically diverse nation and all need to be taken into account to meet the growing demand of transportation over these differing regions. First off, we have to address states that must begin to rely on ferry transport across bodies of water. The ferry system needs adequate funding so that commuters can cross bodies of water such as the Puget Sound and Chesapeake Bay. Docks, landings, ferry boats, and employees will all need funding to ensure that this happens. It has inspired not only appreciative readers and writing critiques but continuous generations of people. The way I would picture King Hamlets great castle of Denmark came up exactly the way I thought it would. The 1800 s setting presented in this film gave it more of a professional feel to it and I loved the vibrant colours throughout the movie. So even though the play is suppose to give off a gloomy atmosphere, dealing with the concept of suicide, the vibrancy of every scene would grab your attention away from the themes for a few seconds. It lets you take in the beautiful scenery and how the play should ve been set up if it did take place in the real world. Scenes such as the burial of Ophelia, where the imagery and setting change from the graveyard to Hamlets old memories of Yorick, the contrasts between such vibrant scenes and darker ones mix and interlace beautifully. This is something that neither Zeffirelli nor Almereyda were able to accomplish in their films. In Zaferelli s Hamlet the imagery presented throughout was not more than what the settings it could not portray. It didn t properly grasp more than the generic medieval atmosphere. It would ve been a lot more successful to include more clips of what life would ve been like for Hamlet and the people of Denmark. People point out that the Holy Spirit came upon the 120 followers of Christ in the Upper Room 10 days after Christ s Ascension. When the window opened and Peter gave his first sermon, the Church began. What is often forgotten is what occurred 10 days before Pentecost. • 25. European Achievements In West Europe Before the arrival of Europeans in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the African kingdoms and cities had a multitude of achievements. These come from different areas, like trade and wealth, and added to the quality of life and functionality of the respective kingdom. The African empire s achievements were successful in the advancement of civilization. In West Africa, the kingdoms Ghana, Mali, and Songhai gained wealth and power through their achievements. Significantly, this would change during the fifteenth and sixteenth with the introduction of the slave trade. However, prior to the arrival of Europeans, the African empires had prevalent achievements in traditional societal and political structures, wealth and luxury, and trade and harvesting. The African empires developed societal and political structures that improved its functionality. Songhai was under the rule of Sunni Ali until his death where Askia Muhammed Toure became king after leading a revolt against Ali s son. He expanded the empire greatly until it extended northward, westward, and eastward to trading cities. Notably, Toure improved the political and societal structure of his empire. He opted for a centralized administration, and organized a bureaucracy. A centralized administration created power and organization to the Songhai empire, allowing it to function efficiently. Additionally, a bureaucracy assisted in regulating trade. The regulation of trade allows for the empire the flourish and increase in wealth. Also, Africans organized their societies around the family unit much like how Askia Muhammed Toure replaced the chiefs with members of his family (Khan Academy). Similarly, the kingdom of Ghana showed characteristics of political and societal structure as recorded in Through African Eyes. The excerpt states that, It possessed... social organization that ensured justice and efficient political control, a strong army equipped with advanced weapons, and a foreign policy that led to peace and cooperation with other people.
