Phage Research Paper
As shown in the above results finding a phage is not guaranteed. Even when using multiple different
soil samples and different protocol to isolate a phage there is still chance you won t find a phage.
There were no phages present within any of the plates there are a lot of reasons why this might be. The
main reason is probably because of possible errors such as removing from the aseptic zone which
would prevent contamination or having improper techniques for top agar pouring which could also
screw the data. A lot of the soil samples collected were very dense and when we got our enrichment
medium soil mixture back from the shakers we did notice that our soil samples had not separated as
much as other groups. This could have caused contamination ... Show more content on

Though antibiotics have been able to be used in the past to help treat and cure diseases resistance to
most antibiotics is building up fast and medicine needs a new way to treat these diseases and many
other issues. With the use of phage therapy this has become possible since phages attack specific
bacteria it is unlikely that resistance issues will arise like with antibiotics. Also, unlike antibiotics you
will most likely only need one low dose so it is most likely going to be more effective since there
shouldn t patient cooperation issues. Another advantage of using bacteriophages is that new phages are
being discovered everyday leading to more breakthroughs in disease control, bacterial contamination,
and many other issues. Though there are many advantages to using bacteriophages there are a few
disadvantages. One disadvantage is that in order to prescribe phages doctors will need to have an
extended amount of knowledge on the matter which may me that some doctors will choose not use
them. Another disadvantage would be that phages have a very narrow host range means that s in order
to prescribe them you will need to know the specific host you are trying to infect which could me
running a lot of test. Overall, so far the advantages out weight the disadvantages but there is still a lot
more research that needs to be conducted but one thing that we can be sure of is that phages are
changing the face of medicine and leading to extreme changes in the scientific

Lynching in the United States
In the case of lynching, discourses emerge from heated debates about the meaning of the practice;
these debates change over the long history of lynching in America. At different times in the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries, the term lynching has implied rather different historical acts amongst the
community. It has also been used to specify acts that indicated a wide range of distinct motives,
strategies, technologies and meanings, as well as a politically encumbered term. For many African
Americans who grew up in the South in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the threat of lynching
was mundane. Photographs and postcards illustrating the popular image of an angry white mob
hanging a black man does not give the full historic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White southerners drew on prewar precedents from the vigilante movements with which landed whites
had suppressed landless whites, the brutal suppression of slave revolts and the relatively rare ferocious
mob punishment of an alleged rape or murder by a slave.
From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social
measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all
contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the ways
in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and gender in
crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division in the
community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody of legal
authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for some time
after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. One way of rationalizing it would be
to say that some people regarded the execution of these mobs as holding up the values of the
community
Over the course of lynching s history, these mobs changed in size and strategies. Based on the level of
organization, historian John Ross recognized three primary groups of lynch mobs: those deriving from

Analysis Of Mrs. Dalloway By Virginia Woolf
Beautiful, complex, incisive.... One of the most moving, revolutionary artworks of the twentieth
century (Michael Cunningham) Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf is not only a book that entertains
millions, like Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone, or
E. L. James s Fifty Shades of Grey, but it is a work of literature that revolutionized the art of writing,
which continues to influence people s philosophies, beliefs, and views on life even roughly after a
century since its publication. In fact, music, fashion, food, films, books, clothes, and paintings are a
few aspects of art all impacted immensely by Mrs. Dalloway, a story highlighting a mere day in a
woman s life as she prepares for a party. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, the meadow denotes Septimus s joy prior to the war and the beautiful and honorable
decision he took to fight for his country, meanwhile the dull sky exemplifies his unstable and muddled
mind after enduring the traumatic events of combat. Not to mention, the large, red spot also
symbolizes the hopeless feeling and blazing fire Septimus now feels and sees when he views his life.
All in all, Champagne displays the same feelings Septimus felt with society today.
Disturbia, a pop song sung by Rhianna, connects the idea of chaos and paranoia in the novel with
contemporary art and postmodern society. For example, the lyrics What s wrong with me? Why do I
feel like this? I m going crazy now... demonstrate the feeling and thoughts of confusion, paranoia, and
stress a person in today s society with PTSD undergoes, exactly like the symptoms Septimus is
displaying daily: Suffering forever...he moaned, putting from him with a wave of his hand that

Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism
Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to produce quality
goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a better sense of variety when making
purchases. Competition in its purest form creates small buyers and sellers none of which are too large
to negatively affect the market as a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times
when merchants competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as
a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and demand in a free
market economy. They also believed that supply and demand worked better in a laissez faire type
environment. This was possible through freedom to trade, transparent knowledge of market
conditions, no government restrictions on trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions
prevented any buyer or seller to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the
mid 1800 s, limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations
achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would allow them to fix
prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses became so large that they controlled
enough market share to deceptively manipulate prices in their industry. This activity created an
atmosphere for President Theodore Roosevelt to launch his famous trust busting campaigns. The era
of antitrust

The Importance Of Symbolism In Literature
Symbolism is a very important aspect of writing good literature. Symbolism can han have a major
impact on a piece of literature, it can make a bad writing really interesting or it can make a good
writing have a totally different meaning. Most readers miss the symbols the first time reading through
the work and they don t get it until someone teaches them or if they read it again, sometimes the
symbols are hard to detect in the story or poem, and other times they can be super easy to find such as
a giant red A on your chest. In 1984 the many Symbol was pretty easy to figure out and a had a big
meaning for part of the book which was really fascinating once you figured it out. Overall symbolism
is very important and hopefully everyone who reads this will realize that.
Symbolism is when the author uses an object or reference to add deeper meaning to a story. There are
hundreds of different symbols authors and poets use and even more ways for them to use each symbol.
If you think about it anything really can be a symbol if the author wants it to be. There are some basic
things to know about symbolism such as that the night often represents death and the morning usually
represents the start of life, another big one to remember is that usually a storm is meaning that there is
a conflict. There can be things as Broad as the sky or things as small as a cell used as a symbol. They
enhance the theme, ideas, or characters in a story to make it interesting or help prove a point or

So you have decided to apply for a job; well, it s time to write your resume. It may seem like a lot of
hard work and time but once you ve got your mindset and know your own capabilities writing a
resume will be a breeze. The resume helps the employer understand what you have accomplished so
far and why you should be hired for the position you applied for. A resume should consist of where
you had volunteered or played a sport, what transferable skills you could deliver to the workplace and
why you think you should be hired. Volunteering and extracurricular activities are what makes an

your next career however, you should also consider whether your skills are compatible with the career
you have in mind. Employers always make sure that they hire the correct person for the position they
have open. You have to make sure that you actually want this job, it s suited to your skills and that you
will perform well in the given workspace. Always include why you think the you re the right
candidate for the job; be confident enough to state your opinion to your employer. Allowing the
employer to see how confident your desire is for this position will make them see how well you will
work; they ll want a person that can work comfortably in that job. Always mention what you could
bring to the workplace; how you could be an asset. Again, mention how your transferable skills can be
put to use to benefit the company that you have applied to work for. Showing the employer how much
they could benefit by hiring you is what will make you a more desirable choice compared to your

The Value Of Skate Culture
Several years ago, I lived with former pro skater Josh Kasper. One Saturday, Josh and I were lounging
around the house playing chess (BTW, Josh is also somewhat of a chess aficionado). During our
conversation, he mentioned that in skate culture to injuries was a type badge of honor. That s within
the skate culture, and the value of a bump or bruise as a badge of honor in skate culture doesn t really
apply to many other professions or sub cultures. Though, it seems that within various groups, there is
always something that carries a value within that group that makes members of that group feel
honored because of an inflated value from other members in that group. That thing, that title or badge,
doesn t necessarily represent the true value

Essay about Mononucleosis
Most commonly known as the kissing disease , Mononucleosis or Mono is a serious and contagious
virus. Mononucleosis is a condition where there is an unusual profiteration of the lymphocytes in the
blood, due to an infection with the Epstein Barr virus. The (EBV) Epstein Barr virus is a common and
highly contagious organism and is a member of the Herpesviridae family. EVP has played a role in the
development of some cancers: Lymphoma s and Nasopharyngeal. Some of the symptoms of Mono are
often confused with strep throat. But because of the severe sore throat, it often prompts the patient to

These tests rely on our immune system and it s measurable anti bodies against the (EBV) Epstein Barr
virus. Unfortunately that is not able to be done until the patient has had the virus for 2 to 3 weeks. The
doctor will need to ask several questions and examine the patient. Once the blood tests are done, the
results will help the doctor rule out any other causes of the patient s symptoms. Once detected
Mononucleosis can live in ones saliva for up to 18 months. One thing about this virus is, once you
have tested positive for mono our body builds up an antibody against the Epstein Barr Virus. Although
patients have stated that with this virus making you feel so terrible, that ,there must be some kind of
antibiotic that is needed to get better. However, self care is usually all that is needed. Of course,
getting plenty of rest is important with most sickness, but with mono that is all you will seem to do for
the next 4 to 6 weeks. Gargle with salt water and warm water. That will help your sore throat and
swollen tonsils. Make sure to get some throat lozenges to help sooth your throat as well. It is also
helpful to take some acetaminophen (like Tylenol) or ibuprofen (like Advil) to reduce fever and helps
relieve the sore throat that was mentioned above. If possible only rest, nourishment, and water are the
best way to get through this virus. The medications above are not needed to improve they are only

The Reign Of King Louis Xiv
The Reign of King Louis XIV
Louis XIV had a passion for glory and used it to fight four wars because he was motivated by personal
and dynastic considerations.
King Louis XIV was born in 1638. He became king at age four, and received only a mediocre
education. He was taught nothing beyond pious works and decorous behavior at religious observances.
He came into full power of France in 1661. Louis married Maria Theresa of Spain in 1659. When
Mazarin died in 1661, Louis decided he didn t want a powerful advisor and then started to change
history. Louis had the longest reign in European history of 73 years.
King Louis XIV distrusted the Protestants and everything they stood for. Because of that, he revoked
the Edict of Nantes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Louis XIV was charitable. He did open a veterans hospital in 1670 to house ex soldiers. He opened
academies for dance, inscriptions, sciences, architecture and music. These academies set standards for
taste. He annexed valuable land such as Flanders and Franche Comte. Louis decision to suppress the
Protestant religion can be seen as a political move to join France under one religion and to build
national unity.
Louis became unpopular because he was so sure of himself. He felt that everyone should revolve
around him, so he took the sun as his image, because they had just discovered that the world revolved
around the sun. He persecuted Protestants. He also used bribery. King Louis XIV forced Protestants to
pay extra taxes and forced the people who kept the Protestant religion to house soldiers whenever they
were in town. He taxed the Protestants because they chose to believe in something different then his
beliefs. Louis threw out the Edict of Nantes because it gave people the freedom to choose their own
religion and he believed that people should have only one religion, Catholicism. This act took away
the people s right to freedom of religion.
He increased tax levels by three times which caused everyone to struggle; the peasants could barely
pay and the middle class was angered at having to pay. Although he started a veterans hospital the real
reason he started it was to keep the ex solders from causing disturbance in

Germany s Distinguishable Military Culture
Germany s distinguishable military culture is marked by the imperative to succeed and extremism.
Their position in Belgium and The Great War began with the aristocracy being threatened, and ended
with Germany overestimating their strategy. Reliance on tactic and luck rather than strategy proves to
be the country s Achilles heel once they encounter Belgium resistance. The strong characteristics of
Germany s style bleed through their actions across Belgium and shaped how countries perceived
Germany during and after The Great War. The arising socialist party was beginning to be a major
threat towards the aristocracy because of the rising level of nationalism. The Kaiser partially saw the
war as a way to put aside the possible uprising and maintain current state of affairs. The victory the
Prussian army had in 1849 came against the advocating of revolution and reform. After some time, the
social, economic, and political forces that pressed for reform joined as one in parliament to face the
monarch. The issue of monarch versus the people for control of the army and violence is what
determined Prussia s political fate. Bismarck turned these politics around in Germany to unify the
army with war: this action shone a positive light on nationalism and put the army in the monarch s
hands. The Kaiser s major power came from his control over policy and the military. Germany s
military is individualized because of the key aspects it follows. Relations to extremism, tactical
actions

A Student At Hampton University
I wish I could say it still surprises me when I mentioned to people that I attended an HBCU
(Historically Black College/University), some of them have no idea they exist. Often, it turns into a
conversation starter, which usually evolves into a meaningful educational moment about the history of
HBCU s. However, occasionally I find myself becoming frustrated when ask the question why in a
way that questions the validity and or need for HBCU s in 2016. As a student at Hampton University I
did not fully realize the impact it would have on me, but looking back, it is clear to me that those
experiences have shaped who I ve grown into today, and strongly influence to my desire to pursue a
career in environmental science education.
My first class in Marine and Environmental Science department at Hampton University turned out be
different than I expected. Instead of a large lecture hall full of students, I entered a small classroom
with approximately 15 students. It was a pleasant surprise to see the small group of students, who
shared a cultural resemblance and has similar interests. Up until then, typically when I told someone I
wanted to be a marine scientist, the response was oh that nice or so you want to play with fish? So
being at Hampton with likeminded students that I could relate to made the transition form high school
to college easier than I anticipated. There was a feeling of communities that allowed me to feel free to
be myself.

The Concentration Of Vitamin C
Vitamin C Investigation
Aim: I want to find out whether the concentration of Vitamin C in Golden Circle Pineapple juice
changes over time.
Hypothesis: My hypothesis for this investigation will argue that the Vitamin C level in Golden Circle
Pineapple juice will decrease over time.
Chemical information and safety surrounding the use of these substances.
Previous scientific work: CHEEKY NANDOS
Vitamin C: Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water soluble vitamin, which is needed by the body to form
collagen in bones, cartilage, muscle, and blood vessels. Dietary sources of vitamin C include fruits and
vegetables, particularly citrus fruits such as oranges.
Severe deficiency of vitamin C is known to cause scurvy. Many uses for vitamin C have been
proposed, but evidence of benefit in scientific studies is lacking. In particular, research on asthma,
cancer, and diabetes remains inconclusive, and a lack of benefit has been found for the prevention of
cataracts or heart disease.
The use of vitamin C in the prevention or treatment of colds remains controversial. Extensive research
has been conducted. Overall, vitamin C lacked an effect on the development of colds and on cold
symptoms. However, the duration of the cold shortened slightly. Notably, people living in extreme
circumstances, including soldiers in the subarctic, skiers, and marathon runners, had a 50% decrease
in the risk of developing a cold. This area merits additional research and may be of particular interest

people when they were making fun of Zero Stanley just reminded them that someone does care about

Janet s Case For Life Insurance
Janet applied for life insurance on February 10, 2003. The amount her policy would pay out upon her
death would be $250,000. On September 1, 2005 Janet was sadly murdered which caused the life
insurance company to pay out the beneficiary who in our case is Janet s husband, Craig. Although the
contract should have been paid out in full upon Janet s death, the insurance company is refusing to pay
out the policy. When Janet applied for life insurance in 2003 she when through an extensive
application form which is typical for all life insurance contracts. On this form she was asked about her
health specifically if she had been operated on or been hospitalized in the last ten years. Along with
that and many other things Janet was asked if she had any lung disorders. She replied to both of these
questions with no when in fact she had been in the hospital several times in the last ten years and had a
lung disorder. She suffers from recurrent chest pains and abdominal pains. She has also been
diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. For these two reason and more the life insurance company is
refusing to payout the policy to Craig.
A normal case of life insurance is paid out upon the death of the person insured but in this
circumstance the payment is being withheld. The main legal issue in this case is can the life insurance
company withhold payment of the insured amount. On that another hand does Craig, the beneficiary
of the life insurance, have the right to receive or to be owed the

Schizoid Personality Disorder
Clinical Description
1. Presentation of problem Schizoid Personality Disorder is a personality disorder in which an
individual chooses to avoid close relationships with other people, takes pleasure in little, if any,
activities, appears to be indifferent to others opinions of them, and they are typically asexual. Many
people confuse schizoid personality disorder with schizophrenia, but they are two separate disorders.
Schizoid personality disorder is not a mood disorder nor does an individual with schizoid personality
disorder present with symptoms such as paranoia or hallucinations. In some instances, schizoid
personality disorder can be a precursor for schizophrenia, but in order to be diagnosed with schizoid
personality disorder, an individual must not present with symptoms of schizophrenia.
According to Barlow (2015), individuals with schizoid personality disorder present pervasive patterns
of detachment and avoid interpersonal relationships. For example, a schizoid is most likely not going
interact in a group setting or initiate conversations with people; they do not desire closeness with other
people. Some people may think schizoids behave the way they do because they are shy or have social
anxiety, but that is not the case; schizoids choose to isolate themselves and typically only have

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
In England, 1890 there was a tale named The Story of the Three Little Pigs . In this tale, an old sow
sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig s meet a man; he supplies them
with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of the materials to build
their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second with sticks; only to get
devoured by a hungry wolf who huffed and puffed and blew their houses down. However, the third pig
who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf. The wolf thought to himself, Well! If I
can t get to him, then I ll have to find a way to bring him to me . So, the wolf tried to lure the pig out
of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip field, apple tree, and fair. But, the pig outsmarted
him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to climb down the pig s chimney.
Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for him on the other side; a big pot of
scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf for dinner. Throughout The Story of
the Three Little Pigs the third little pig outwitted his brothers by exemplifying astute qualities that
allowed him to further his quest against the wolf. There was a plethora of different events that
showcased the third pig s intelligence. To name a few: building his house with bricks, surviving the

Essay On Unemployment In America
A record of 94,708,000 Americans are not in the labor force as of May 2016. CNS news took this
information from the Labor Department s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on June third 2016. This
is an all time high for unemployment in the United States. The possible reason why so many
Americans aren t working could be due to the fact that the way money is distributed in America isn t
what they people think it is, and it isn t even close to the ideal. Another reason why Americans aren t
working could be that a small portion of the U.S. owns a large portion of all the earnings, and the

Although Truman was not able to create a universal health care system for America s citizens during
his presidency, his efforts did help to expand health care quality and access throughout the country
(Schimmel, 5) and paved the way for the creation of Medicaid and Medicare during the presidency of
Lyndon B. Johnson. With the rise of the Republican Party during the presidency of Ronald Regan, the
idea of government intervention with the welfare of its citizens was challenged. Funding was cut for
many social programs with much of the facilitation of these programs being transferred from the
federal government to the individual states. The primary focus of this new era was on lowering taxes.
Much of the argument surrounding those who were economically ... Show more content on

limits on essential medical services, and insurance exchanges where citizens can pick amongst a
variety of health plans offered by private insurers that must meet certain government criteria for
quality and affordability (Schimmel, 2). Even though this act was passed, it remains highly contested

Art In The Cold War Essay
Artists and designers had one big role in the Cold War battle. Their work was used for propaganda .
Propaganda is used to make a public, even if missleading, cause or political point of view. Artists
actions and opinions were prized. In the late 1940s the formation of one party states under communist
rule, and the imposition of Socialist Realism throughout the Easterm Bloc, disappointed hopes for the
freedom of the modern artist or the designer in the East. Only in socialist Yugoslavia, where Moscow s
influence was quickly rejected could modernism flourish. Abstract art and design that was functional

Paradise Lost Literary Analysis
This paper will argue that the blending of ancient and modern literary ideas is significant to Milton s
goal of being considered one of the great poets, as his writing style emulates that of older texts, he
repeated references stories written by those great authors, and the fact that his book is about the
creation of everything. First, I will talk about the way Milton writes Paradise Lost. This is significant,
as his writing style is similar to Virgil, an ancient Roman Poet. Next, I will discuss Milton s idea of the
gods of old in the Christian world, and how this idea links the ancient texts to what he is writing.
Finally, I will discuss Milton s choice of topic, his choice of plot points, and how it relates to his goal
of being among the greatest poets. By emulating the writing styles of other famous epics, written by
authors of the past, Milton hoped to place himself amongst them. An example of his emulation is the
extended similes that he uses. Extended similes, or epic similes, go as far back as Homer s epics.
Milton uses these more frequently and includes more detail than those in older texts. For example, he
compares Satan s arrival in Eden to the smell of a fish (Book 4, 166). Shortly after, he compares Eden
to the field where Proserpine gathered flowers, a Roman goddess who was kidnapped by the god of
death. These similes seem to be simple comparisons, meant to improve the text, but, in actuality, these
similes go much deeper. Looking at the second simile,

When the king of Phaeacia decided to give Odysseus a new crew they set off immediately. They set
sails and go south, but 10 miles down they see a chameleon type monster as large as the cyclops. They
ready their swords and raise their shields, except the monster greets them with a soft hello as docile as
a baby puppy.
Who are you? said Odysseus.
I am Chamelo, I was sent here by Zeus to help you get home. said the Chameleon. How can you prove
to me you want to help us? Odysseus asked.
I can morph into anything from 100 years ahead of time and behind, but not anything present.
Anytime I do that the time goes up by double and the older or futuristic it is, the more problems it will
have. Also if we need anything huge it takes out a lot of my energy so we would need to wait for my
energy to replenish. Chamelo said.
Okay then, can you morph into a huge boat 2654 years from now? He asked.
Yes, give me a few minutes It said.
A few minutes later the Chameleon, like he said, slowly turned into a huge metal ship with things
called motors and electronics. After being amazed, they went on and ran through it with amazement.
This here is something called a cruise ship, it is used for people to safely travel through the seas with
great fun in the 2000 s, and I am talking to you through things called speakers. Chamelo said

Astrology Signs
The astrology signs go in this order: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio,
Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. You ve probably heard about fire signs, earth signs, air signs,
and water signs. These are the four elements. Twelve signs divided by four elements equals 3 signs per
element. If you start with Aries as the first fire sign, then just skip to every 4th sign, you ll see that the
fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagitarrius. Taurus is the first earth sign, then Virgo and Capricorn.
Gemini is the first air sign, then Libra and Aquarius. Cancer is the first water sign, then Scorpio and
Pisces.
So what does a fire sign mean? These signs tend to burn hard and fast. They start strong and then can
flame out just as quickly as they began. Do you know a person with a Aries, Leo or Sagittarius Sun?
Then you may notice that these people are a little more intensely emotional, whether that be in
happiness or anger. They may likely be more honest. And they may likely be more likely to take
action quickly and with no holds barred. These are generalities, of course. Other planets in a person s
birth chart can intensify or mute this fire Sun sign as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sport Of The Basketball Player Essay
I absolutely love to spend hours on top of hours throwing spherical objects into a raised hoop
possessing an 18 inch diameter, only to retrieve said object, force it to the ground repeatedly, and
throw it at the hoop once again. To someone dumbfounded by the idea of the previous sentence, this
activity is quite bizarre and pointless, but to someone like me, it s a lifestyle. It s tradition. It s second
nature. Being a black, Metro Detroit child of born of two parents who were both from inner cities, one
could guess that the laws of this world destined me to invest the majority of my young life into one of
the world s many sports, most likely basketball or football. Although one would be stereotyping, one
would be right. For the first 17 years of my being, I lived and breathed the sport of basketball; I knew
the rules of the game, I knew the rules of the court, and I knew what it takes to be a respected
basketball player. Now that I ve unofficially hung up my jersey and stepped away from the game (for
the now at least!), I ve had the chance to take a step back and truly contemplate the overall essence of
the sport of basketball in America, more specifically friendly pick up games. Every game, from card
games to Olympic sports, have their own set of rules, but they aren t all approached with the same
underlying attitude. Why is there an overall mood of intensity and toughness during pick up games
which have such low stakes? How do players already know the procedures

two are employed in other trades in the province, equally successful. Regardless of the letter Hamilton
uses as evidence, the grasshopper invasions had dramatic effects of the residents of Manitoba.
Mennonites, who recently immigrated to the province, had major crop failures due to grasshoppers
and frosts which caused them to rely on governmental loans. As historian Sarah Carter puts it,
grasshoppers were a reoccurring problem in Manitoba and returned with a vengeance in 1873 75,

The National Plan Of Integrated Airport Systems
The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) forever changed the way airports were
classified when it was unveiled in 1982 (Wells, 2011). The aviation industry had grown significantly
since deregulation went into effect, and a new system needed to be put in place that would distinguish
airports with incredible growth and expansion from those that served niche markets or flight training
(Wells). Under the NPIAS, airports were broken down into three major categories: commercial
services airports, reliever airports, and general aviation airports (Wells). The following paragraphs
describe the three categories of airports that were created by the NPIAS, and conclude with an airport
that fits into that particular category today.
Commercial Services Airport When the general public thinks about airports, chances are they will
imagine an airport that fits into this category. Commercial services airports are defined in our text as
those airports that accommodate scheduled air carrier service, provided by the world s certificated air
carriers (Wells). These are the airports that move passengers and cargo across the United States and
the world. Commercial services airports are not created equal, however, which is why they are further
broken down into different categories of hubs. They range from large hub airports that account for at
least 1 percent of the total passenger enplanements in the United States to medium and small hub
airports that account for less and

The Characteristics And Differences Between Radio And Radio
1. The skills one needs to be a radio listener, are more sophisticated then the skills one would use to
understand and interpret a television program. When listening to the radio, one has to be an active
listener. It requires you to pay more attention as the information is being processed solely through
auditory stimulation. This is unlike watching television which provides both auditory and visual
stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th 1938, I
found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or news story.
It is much easier to pay attention to the later. Moreover, listening to the radio requires a person to use
their own imagination more vividly. The audience has to take in what is being described and create
their own personal picture of the event. Television seems to give us a more realistic understanding of
what it is news anchor is talking about as the consumers can be shown pictures or film footage of the
event being discussed. This add to the audience s view of the incident in its entirety. On the radio, the
news broadcasters have to be more descriptive when describing the currents events as their
descriptions are the sole foundation that the listener s imagination will be based on. It is only through
their description that the listener will get an understanding of whatever is being discussed. The radio
host must therefore put in more detail than a television host. As expected, a

Confederates In The Attic Analysis
In Confederates in the Attic, the author, Tony Horwitz, gives an interesting, historical, and semi
humorous take on the Civil War, taking us on his journey through places and people that resonate the
Civil War, a journey he called the hardcore campaign of his own. Throughout this adventure, Horwitz
s obsession with the Civil War is supplemented by reenactors who call themselves hardcores,
historians, museums, Daughters of the Confederacy, teachers, and battlefields, along with everyday
people who express their views and knowledge of the War. As Horwitz takes his readers through his

explained and discussed through many of his encounters.
Tony Horwitz grew up with an obsession with the Civil War and upon moving back to America after
time abroad, Horwitz s interest rekindled. He travelled to nearby battlegrounds but his full blown
obsession did not come back until the reenactors showed up in front of his house filming a
documentary. These reenactors, who would perform in film shoots for basically nothing, called
themselves hardcores , referencing the fact that they sought absolute fidelity to the 1860s: its
homespun clothing, antique speech patterns, sparse diet and simple utensils, (7). Some even went as
far as to soak their buttons in their own urine to give it the proper Civil War era look. During their

Argumentative Essay On Kayak Fishing
Kayaks have been classic vessels for fishing, as opposed to using a big boat. Many people are flocking
to kayak fishing because of its many benefits. Kayaks for fishing range from two hundred dollars to
thirteen hundred dollars, much less than the cost of a boat (fishhound). Operating a boat takes a toll on
the angler and his gear and it comes with a lot to think about, and it is hard to handle. Using a kayak
instead of a boat allows access to non motorised water bodies, as well as height and length limited
water bodies. Most people use kayaks because they provide peace and quiet, and they promote
exercise benefits (Mac). Buying a kayak instead of a boat, and using artificial bait instead of natural
bait is the best option because of the benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anglers also prefer to use artificial bait this because they need to use much more equipment when
using natural bait. (The Dorling 250). The equipment needed when using natural bait includes
bobbers, hooks, line, swivels and weights. Searching for and storing for all of these items is time
consuming and very expensive. Another downside to natural bait fishing occurs when fishing with live
fish. When using this method, an angler would not always know in which direction the fish on the end
of the line is going to swim. Using a live fish as bait can be quite difficult because it is hard to get a
live fish to stay on a hook.when using artificial bait the only tackle you need is the lure. A very
popular method of artificial bait is crankbaits. Crankbaits are easy to use, inexpensive and they are
durable. Anglers prefer to use artificial bait over natural bait because natural bait lasts only a few
hours, but artificial baits can last for years. Another plus to using artificial bait is that the angler will
be able to cast into the water quickly. The natural bait fisherman will have to organise his tackle,
prepare his rod, and tie everything together. Artificial baits are useful for kids because most crankbaits
have an action. An action is when an angler has to move the rod a certain way for the lure to work.
Lures that are good for kids can just be casted out and reeled straight back in. Some lures are made
with one single barbless hook. The advantage to using a barbless hook is that once is on the hook the
hook is easy to remove. In the event that an angler has put hook through his skin a barbless hook is

The Effects Of Physical Inactivity On Human Body
Background
Its widely known that physical inactivity has enormous negative health effects. Poor cardio respiratory
fitness, adiposity, impaired glucose toler ance, hypertension, and arteriosclerosis are independent
threats to health and that physical inactivity increases the risk for premature death (Lars). The negative
health effects of physical inactivity are numerous. Examples are high blood pressure, increased risk of
diabetes, increased stress and depression, and shorter life expectancy. It is clear that not being
physically active takes a large toll on the human body. There are many different ways that an
individual can turn their life around. Anything from going for a walk or going from a 5 mile run will
make a lasting effect. Some people take exercise to the extreme and use high intensity training.
During intense exercise the body gets pushed to its limits. The cardiovascular system is one that is
pushed to its bounds. While at rest the heart is beating at about 70 beats per minute. During vigorous
exercise, the heart rate increases dramatically. The general rule to find the maximum heart rate is
taking 206.9 (0.67 x age) (Waehner). For an average 20 year old, that is about 194 beats per minute

The Theme Of Citizen Kane
Identity is an essential part of all our lives. Our actions determine our identity, and in turn, our identity
structures our actions. One s desire to seek a self identity is an essential for the alignment of his or her
pursuit of happiness. However, when such desire to fulfill one s standards grows too strong, one might
neglect other parts of his or her life. This neglect could lead to graver consequences, such as one s
sensations of failure and even his own downfall. In movie Citizen Kane, the director Orson Welles
presents a complex and pessimistic theme of a spiritually failed man, Charles Foster Kane, through
discovering his life story from several perspective by different characters, to tell a tragic epic story of
a rags to riches child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For citizen Kane, the most important assets of his life are not the political ambitions, successful
newspaper business, nor his relationships with the significant others. Judging by his last word,
Rosebud, the most important piece of his life is memory from his childhood. Although his life is
changed for what appears to be better, from a materialistic viewpoint, it actually leaves him vulnerable
and alone. Kane s life is ultimately destructed by his lust to fulfill the American dream of fame, power
and wealth. The inevitable struggle of Kane is reflective of the struggle of many must confront in this
materialistic world, as one on his or her quest to find the true meaning of

Analysis Of The Book Alice s Adventures
In today s world most are familiar with the story of Alice in Wonderland. Admittedly, most are more
familiar with the Disney movie, than the actual book. The movie and book are captivating in their
imagination, and bare some striking similarities. The movie and the book have many differences. The
movie has a different medium and can convey differently than the book. In 1951, Disney, a company
well known for animating favorite fairy tales, animated the well loved story of Alice who fell down
the rabbit hole and into a new world as she slept. The world she fell into however was a bit different
than in the book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. The movie could show more than the story could
describe, and the movie covered more than just what was in that one book in order to create a fuller
world then what was provided in teh one book, the producers decided to include elements from Alice
through the Looking Glass as well. Lewis Carroll was not only a writer, but a mathematician as well.
When he wrote the stories about Alice, Carroll wanted to make sure proportions remained intact and
he wanted to focus more on Alice s story than the world creation. Though we get vivid details about
the rabbit hole world, it takes more space to describe this in written form than in picture form. While
at the same time it can sometimes take longer for dialogue to play out on screen than on the page
depending on cadence and speaking rate in the film. Not only that but it is some differences

Soul Music Research Paper
One of the greatest contributions to our country s music industry was the creation of Soul music. Soul
music traces its roots back to African American gospel music. In 1865, slavery had ended but African
Americans were still not welcomed in churches that were for white Americans (Errey, n.d). Because of
this, African American built churches and within those churches they sang Christian songs with their
specific culture rhythms and vocal styles (Errey, n.d). These gospel songs had both a fast up beat
tempo which they would move to the beat and clap their hands and slower tempo songs in which was
a way to express their deep devotion to God. These two styles of gospel music eventually lead to the
two distinct styles of Soul music (Errey, n.d). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Southern Soul was also known as Deep Soul originated in Memphis, TN. They had a distinct style that
became to be known as Memphis Soul (Errey, n.d.). Southern Soul produced music by Hi Records
was very successful at creating some of the best soul music ever recorded. Soul music never stopped
evolving, famous artist such as Aretha Franklin helped bring female gospel styles to soul music as her
single When a Man Loves a Woman became one of the top selling soul records ever sold (Errey, n.d).
African American culture within Soul music has been very influential in the creation of many genres
we see today. Genres such as funk, hip hop and contemporary R B were all influenced by original soul
music (Errey, n.d.). Funk music began when artists such as James Brown and Stevie Wonder took high
beat soul music and increase the tempo creating a funky up beat style. Hip Hop Began when DJ s
began to create lyrics in which they could rap to over the beat of soul and funk music. Today, we have
seen many successful artists such as that can contribute their style from traditional soul music. In all,
soul music was the foundation to many popular genres and evolved over many years while continuing
to bring all people

How Did The Silk Road Influence The Spread Of Buddhism
In the fifth century BC, in the eastern parts of ancient India, Buddhism was born. This faith was based
on the teachings of Siddhārtha Gautama, and is one of the oldest religions today. As it spread along
trade routes in Central, East, and Southern Asia, it evolved. Buddhism influenced most of the Asian
continent at some point. An important part of the spread of Buddhism was the Silk Road. These trade
routes were not only used for goods, but also for belief systems, one of these being Buddhism. The
Silk Road influenced the spread of Buddhism by encouraging intercultural exchange, by influencing
the language and meaning of Buddhist texts, and by providing leaders control of the way Buddhism
spread.

German Supernatural
The Supernatural Through the Ages German literature has evolved significantly throughout the
centuries. These changes can be seen in the content, and in the German language itself. Despite these
changes, one constant factor has remained, and continued to play a role in German literature from the
charms of the Old High German period, to the love poems and stories of the Early New High German.
This factor is the element of the supernatural. Supernatural is defined, by The Merriam Webster
Dictionary, as, Departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws
of nature . It is not singularly ghosts, or phantom haunts, but, also, magic, dragons, and the mystical
powers of gods and higher beings. It is this form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This period was characterized by the prayers and charms that marked the existence of polytheism.
These beliefs would directly contrast those of the works that would develop in the later periods, as
Christianity spread across Germany. However, the presentation of prayers and wishes to the gods
would continue to follow format, even as the belief system of this period withered away into
something new. It is with this perspective that one looks onto, The Merseburg Charms. In these
charms, the supernatural element cannot be denied, as the writer calls on the gods for the loosening of
the enemy s ties on captives, and, in the second section, healing for those with a sprain or small
fracture. Not only was the author calling on the supernatural power of the deities, these charms would
set the precedent for modern understanding of the time s supernatural beliefs. This is, partially, done
through understanding the formula for recitation, and prayers. In Volume 20 of The Journal of
American Folklore, it is stated that it will be observed that the recitation of the mythological precedent
frequently concludes with a precise formula, supposedly uttered by the deity or hero who appears in
the incident . The potency of a phrase having been proved by its use under supernatural auspices, the
conjurer believes that a recital of the same formula will insure the attainment of his end . Similar to a
prayer, these charms called upon

Even when using multiple different soil samples and different protocol to isolate a phage there is still chance you won t find a phage. There were no phages present within any of the plates there are a lot of reasons why this might be. The main reason is probably because of possible errors such as removing from the aseptic zone which would prevent contamination or having improper techniques for top agar pouring which could also screw the data. Though antibiotics have been able to be used in the past to help treat and cure diseases resistance to most antibiotics is building up fast and medicine needs a new way to treat these diseases and many other issues. With the use of phage therapy this has become possible since phages attack specific bacteria it is unlikely that resistance issues will arise like with antibiotics. Also, unlike antibiotics you will most likely only need one low dose so it is most likely going to be more effective since there shouldn t patient cooperation issues. Another advantage of using bacteriophages is that new phages are being discovered everyday leading to more breakthroughs in disease control, bacterial contamination, and many other issues. Though there are many advantages to using bacteriophages there are a few disadvantages. One disadvantage is that in order to prescribe phages doctors will need to have an extended amount of knowledge on the matter which may me that some doctors will choose not use them. Another disadvantage would be that phages have a very narrow host range means that s in order to prescribe them you will need to know the specific host you are trying to infect which could me running a lot of test. Lynching in the United States In the case of lynching, discourses emerge from heated debates about the meaning of the practice; these debates change over the long history of lynching in America. At different times in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the term lynching has implied rather different historical acts amongst the community. It has also been used to specify acts that indicated a wide range of distinct motives, strategies, technologies and meanings, as well as a politically encumbered term. For many African Americans who grew up in the South in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the threat of lynching was mundane. White southerners drew on prewar precedents from the vigilante movements with which landed whites had suppressed landless whites, the brutal suppression of slave revolts and the relatively rare ferocious mob punishment of an alleged rape or murder by a slave. From the late nineteenth to early twentieth century, lynchings were thouroughly rooted in social measures; communities carried out most of the mob killings. Class, ethnicity, and culture all contributed to the inclination for lynching. The motivations behind lynchings are different in the ways in which they used violence to render the understandings of race, social class, sexuality and gender in crime and punishment. Most private mobs carried out lynchings to bring about division in the community view and leaned towards killing their victims that were detained in the custody of legal authorities. Small mobs utilized careful planning and leaned to delay their vigilantism for some time after the commission of the supposed crime they were punishing. One way of rationalizing it would be to say that some people regarded the execution of these mobs as holding up the values of the community Over the course of lynching s history, these mobs changed in size and strategies. Based on the level of organization, historian John Ross recognized three primary groups of lynch mobs: those deriving from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Competition Is The Cornerstone Of Capitalism Competition is the cornerstone of capitalism. It creates rivalry among businesses to produce quality goods and services at competitive prices. This gives consumers a better sense of variety when making purchases. Competition in its purest form creates small buyers and sellers none of which are too large to negatively affect the market as a whole. Competitive markets can be dated back to ancient times when merchants competed in foreign trade. In the 19th century economists considered competition as a natural phenomenon in which growth of an operation was fueled by supply and demand in a free market economy. They also believed that supply and demand worked better in a laissez faire type environment. This was possible through freedom to trade, transparent knowledge of market conditions, no government restrictions on trade, and access to buyers and sellers. These conditions prevented any buyer or seller to significantly affect the market price of a single commodity. After the mid 1800 s, limitations to compete became evident during the industrial revolution. Corporations achieved manufacturing capabilities that would surpass their competitors and would allow them to fix prices and squeeze out their rivals. Eventually some businesses became so large that they controlled enough market share to deceptively manipulate prices in their industry. This activity created an atmosphere for President Theodore Roosevelt to launch his famous trust busting campaigns. The era of antitrust ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Germany s Distinguishable Military Culture Germany s distinguishable military culture is marked by the imperative to succeed and extremism. Their position in Belgium and The Great War began with the aristocracy being threatened, and ended with Germany overestimating their strategy. Reliance on tactic and luck rather than strategy proves to be the country s Achilles heel once they encounter Belgium resistance. The strong characteristics of Germany s style bleed through their actions across Belgium and shaped how countries perceived Germany during and after The Great War. The arising socialist party was beginning to be a major threat towards the aristocracy because of the rising level of nationalism. The Kaiser partially saw the war as a way to put aside the possible uprising and maintain current state of affairs. The victory the Prussian army had in 1849 came against the advocating of revolution and reform. After some time, the social, economic, and political forces that pressed for reform joined as one in parliament to face the monarch. The issue of monarch versus the people for control of the army and violence is what determined Prussia s political fate. Bismarck turned these politics around in Germany to unify the army with war: this action shone a positive light on nationalism and put the army in the monarch s hands. The Kaiser s major power came from his control over policy and the military. Germany s military is individualized because of the key aspects it follows. Relations to extremism, tactical actions ... Presentation of problem Schizoid Personality Disorder is a personality disorder in which an individual chooses to avoid close relationships with other people, takes pleasure in little, if any, activities, appears to be indifferent to others opinions of them, and they are typically asexual. Many people confuse schizoid personality disorder with schizophrenia, but they are two separate disorders. CNS news took this information from the Labor Department s Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on June third 2016. This is an all time high for unemployment in the United States. The possible reason why so many Americans aren t working could be due to the fact that the way money is distributed in America isn t what they people think it is, and it isn t even close to the ideal. Another reason why Americans aren t working could be that a small portion of the U.S. owns a large portion of all the earnings, and the CEOs of companies are making a ridiculous amount more than their workers. • 23. Paradise Lost Literary Analysis This paper will argue that the blending of ancient and modern literary ideas is significant to Milton s goal of being considered one of the great poets, as his writing style emulates that of older texts, he repeated references stories written by those great authors, and the fact that his book is about the creation of everything. First, I will talk about the way Milton writes Paradise Lost. This is significant, as his writing style is similar to Virgil, an ancient Roman Poet. Next, I will discuss Milton s idea of the gods of old in the Christian world, and how this idea links the ancient texts to what he is writing. Finally, I will discuss Milton s choice of topic, his choice of plot points, and how it relates to his goal of being among the greatest poets. By emulating the writing styles of other famous epics, written by authors of the past, Milton hoped to place himself amongst them. An example of his emulation is the extended similes that he uses. Extended similes, or epic similes, go as far back as Homer s epics. Milton uses these more frequently and includes more detail than those in older texts. For example, he compares Satan s arrival in Eden to the smell of a fish (Book 4, 166). Shortly after, he compares Eden to the field where Proserpine gathered flowers, a Roman goddess who was kidnapped by the god of death. These similes seem to be simple comparisons, meant to improve the text, but, in actuality, these similes go much deeper. Looking at the second simile, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The National Plan Of Integrated Airport Systems The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS) forever changed the way airports were classified when it was unveiled in 1982 (Wells, 2011). The aviation industry had grown significantly since deregulation went into effect, and a new system needed to be put in place that would distinguish airports with incredible growth and expansion from those that served niche markets or flight training (Wells). The following paragraphs describe the three categories of airports that were created by the NPIAS, and conclude with an airport that fits into that particular category today. Commercial Services Airport When the general public thinks about airports, chances are they will imagine an airport that fits into this category. Commercial services airports are defined in our text as those airports that accommodate scheduled air carrier service, provided by the world s certificated air carriers (Wells). These are the airports that move passengers and cargo across the United States and the world. The skills one needs to be a radio listener, are more sophisticated then the skills one would use to understand and interpret a television program. When listening to the radio, one has to be an active listener. It requires you to pay more attention as the information is being processed solely through auditory stimulation. This is unlike watching television which provides both auditory and visual stimulation. Personally, when listening to Orson Welles War of the Worlds from October 30th 1938, I found myself more easily distracted comparing to when watching a television program or news story. It is much easier to pay attention to the later. Moreover, listening to the radio requires a person to use their own imagination more vividly. The audience has to take in what is being described and create their own personal picture of the event. Television seems to give us a more realistic understanding of what it is news anchor is talking about as the consumers can be shown pictures or film footage of the event being discussed. This add to the audience s view of the incident in its entirety. On the radio, the news broadcasters have to be more descriptive when describing the currents events as their descriptions are the sole foundation that the listener s imagination will be based on. It is only through their description that the listener will get an understanding of whatever is being discussed. The radio host must therefore put in more detail than a television host. Throughout this adventure, Horwitz s obsession with the Civil War is supplemented by reenactors who call themselves hardcores, historians, museums, Daughters of the Confederacy, teachers, and battlefields, along with everyday people who express their views and knowledge of the War. These reenactors, who would perform in film shoots for basically nothing, called themselves hardcores , referencing the fact that they sought absolute fidelity to the 1860s: its homespun clothing, antique speech patterns, sparse diet and simple utensils, (7). • 39. Argumentative Essay On Kayak Fishing Kayaks have been classic vessels for fishing, as opposed to using a big boat. Many people are flocking to kayak fishing because of its many benefits. Kayaks for fishing range from two hundred dollars to thirteen hundred dollars, much less than the cost of a boat (fishhound). Operating a boat takes a toll on the angler and his gear and it comes with a lot to think about, and it is hard to handle. Using a kayak instead of a boat allows access to non motorised water bodies, as well as height and length limited water bodies. Most people use kayaks because they provide peace and quiet, and they promote exercise benefits (Mac). Buying a kayak instead of a boat, and using artificial bait instead of natural bait is the best option because of the benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anglers also prefer to use artificial bait this because they need to use much more equipment when using natural bait. (The Dorling 250). The equipment needed when using natural bait includes bobbers, hooks, line, swivels and weights. Searching for and storing for all of these items is time consuming and very expensive. Another downside to natural bait fishing occurs when fishing with live fish. When using this method, an angler would not always know in which direction the fish on the end of the line is going to swim. Using a live fish as bait can be quite difficult because it is hard to get a live fish to stay on a hook.when using artificial bait the only tackle you need is the lure. A very popular method of artificial bait is crankbaits. Crankbaits are easy to use, inexpensive and they are durable. Anglers prefer to use artificial bait over natural bait because natural bait lasts only a few hours, but artificial baits can last for years. Another plus to using artificial bait is that the angler will be able to cast into the water quickly. The natural bait fisherman will have to organise his tackle, prepare his rod, and tie everything together. Artificial baits are useful for kids because most crankbaits have an action. An action is when an angler has to move the rod a certain way for the lure to work. Lures that are good for kids can just be casted out and reeled straight back in. Some lures are made with one single barbless hook. The advantage to using a barbless hook is that once is on the hook the hook is easy to remove. In the event that an angler has put hook through his skin a barbless hook is eazy to take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Effects Of Physical Inactivity On Human Body Background Its widely known that physical inactivity has enormous negative health effects. Poor cardio respiratory fitness, adiposity, impaired glucose toler ance, hypertension, and arteriosclerosis are independent threats to health and that physical inactivity increases the risk for premature death (Lars). The negative health effects of physical inactivity are numerous. Examples are high blood pressure, increased risk of diabetes, increased stress and depression, and shorter life expectancy. It is clear that not being physically active takes a large toll on the human body. There are many different ways that an individual can turn their life around. Anything from going for a walk or going from a 5 mile run will make a lasting effect. Some people take exercise to the extreme and use high intensity training. During intense exercise the body gets pushed to its limits. The cardiovascular system is one that is pushed to its bounds. While at rest the heart is beating at about 70 beats per minute. During vigorous exercise, the heart rate increases dramatically. The general rule to find the maximum heart rate is taking 206.9 (0.67 x age) (Waehner). For an average 20 year old, that is about 194 beats per minute which is over double the heart at rest. The increase in heart rate is because it is doing everything it can to push blood to the muscles during that time. The muscles demand 50% of the blood flow during intensive exercise, whereas they only demand 10% while at rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis Of The Book Alice s Adventures In today s world most are familiar with the story of Alice in Wonderland. Admittedly, most are more familiar with the Disney movie, than the actual book. The movie and book are captivating in their imagination, and bare some striking similarities. The movie and the book have many differences. The movie has a different medium and can convey differently than the book. In 1951, Disney, a company well known for animating favorite fairy tales, animated the well loved story of Alice who fell down the rabbit hole and into a new world as she slept. The world she fell into however was a bit different than in the book Alice s Adventures in Wonderland. The movie could show more than the story could describe, and the movie covered more than just what was in that one book in order to create a fuller world then what was provided in teh one book, the producers decided to include elements from Alice through the Looking Glass as well. Lewis Carroll was not only a writer, but a mathematician as well. When he wrote the stories about Alice, Carroll wanted to make sure proportions remained intact and he wanted to focus more on Alice s story than the world creation. Though we get vivid details about the rabbit hole world, it takes more space to describe this in written form than in picture form. While at the same time it can sometimes take longer for dialogue to play out on screen than on the page depending on cadence and speaking rate in the film. Not only that but it is some differences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Soul Music Research Paper One of the greatest contributions to our country s music industry was the creation of Soul music. Soul music traces its roots back to African American gospel music. In 1865, slavery had ended but African Americans were still not welcomed in churches that were for white Americans (Errey, n.d). Because of this, African American built churches and within those churches they sang Christian songs with their specific culture rhythms and vocal styles (Errey, n.d). These gospel songs had both a fast up beat tempo which they would move to the beat and clap their hands and slower tempo songs in which was a way to express their deep devotion to God. These two styles of gospel music eventually lead to the two distinct styles of Soul music (Errey, n.d). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. German Supernatural The Supernatural Through the Ages German literature has evolved significantly throughout the centuries. These changes can be seen in the content, and in the German language itself. Despite these changes, one constant factor has remained, and continued to play a role in German literature from the charms of the Old High German period, to the love poems and stories of the Early New High German. This factor is the element of the supernatural. Supernatural is defined, by The Merriam Webster Dictionary, as, Departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature . It is not singularly ghosts, or phantom haunts, but, also, magic, dragons, and the mystical powers of gods and higher beings. It is this form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This period was characterized by the prayers and charms that marked the existence of polytheism. These beliefs would directly contrast those of the works that would develop in the later periods, as Christianity spread across Germany. However, the presentation of prayers and wishes to the gods would continue to follow format, even as the belief system of this period withered away into something new. It is with this perspective that one looks onto, The Merseburg Charms. In these charms, the supernatural element cannot be denied, as the writer calls on the gods for the loosening of the enemy s ties on captives, and, in the second section, healing for those with a sprain or small fracture. Not only was the author calling on the supernatural power of the deities, these charms would set the precedent for modern understanding of the time s supernatural beliefs. This is, partially, done through understanding the formula for recitation, and prayers. In Volume 20 of The Journal of American Folklore, it is stated that it will be observed that the recitation of the mythological precedent frequently concludes with a precise formula, supposedly uttered by the deity or hero who appears in the incident . The potency of a phrase having been proved by its use under supernatural auspices, the conjurer believes that a recital of the same formula will insure the attainment of his end . Similar to a prayer, these charms called upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
