Relations Between Vietnam And The United States
The situation that the Captain is faced with is multi faceted and complicated. The consequences of his
decision may have results of strategic importance to the relationship between not only China and the
United States, but between Vietnam and the U.S., as well as other peripheral nations that share
interests and territorial claims in the South China Sea. Additional aspects impacting the situation
include the history that is important to understanding China s thought process, humanitarian concerns,
the very real American military requirement to come to the aid of American citizens under threat, and
finally, the potential to become engaged in a kinetic engagement with a Chinese warship. All weigh
heavily upon any decision making process, and can be analyzed through a combination of both
consequentialism and deontological thought. Under those thought constructs, the captain is justified in
acting to save the lives of the Americans in question. Both the consequences of a decision to act, as
well as an analysis of the rightness or the duty of a decision to act are in the captain s favor.
China has used historical claims to justify its territorial usurpations in the South China Sea. China s
territorial claims are causing conflict in the region as Beijing seeks to control more area of the South
China Sea, with one such example being the declaration of Chinese control out to the Nine dashed
line. Additionally, it is only in the last one hundred or so years that China has

The Truman Report And The American Community College
The Truman Report and the American Community College
Introduction
The President s Commission on Higher Education was formed with the basis of exploring the purpose
and the need for Higher Education and the role it played in society. During 1947 there were many
issues affecting not just Higher Education but the nation as a whole. Foreign policy was in disarray,
the threat of a Cold War with the Soviet Union and issues such as the post effects of World War II and
Civil Rights had a huge impact on the home front. According to Wolfe (1994), there was a growing
need of Americans that wanted to be educated; however the country was not equipped with the tools
that were necessary to provide these sources. The report highlighted several key areas that would be
the catalyst for Community Colleges, Societal Issues, the Role of Community Colleges, and the future
of American.
Response to Higher Education Societal Issues
The increase in enrollment in high schools resulted in more individuals making the decision to further
their education. As a result of the increase in attendance, the commission found that the amount of
students attending school did not match with the current needs. This could be attributed to factors such
economic backgrounds, individual student finances, and the amount of money that was invested in
higher education, as a result, the commission revealed that there was a lack of funding that was
invested towards education.
In addition to the lack of funding and the

The ride was pretty uneventful, except the songs they started singing half way there. I just sat there
quietly in my own world. I was also looking at my vine bracelet. I could feel the life of the plant in it.
I could also move it which was pretty cool. I wondered what the full extent of my powers were. I
wondered would i be able to do the changing the weather with my mood thing like the original

Maus Parent Child Relationship Essay
How do graphic novels allow for explorations of parent child relationships and/or the idea of family?
This essay will look at the question of how graphic novels allow for the exploration of parent child
relationships and the idea of intergenerational family relations using primarily the works Maus by Art
Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjani Satrapi. The primary relations are key to exploring this concept
of family. In Maus the key relationship is between the characters Artie and Vladek, son and father
respectively and Marji and her unnamed parents and grandmother. The dynamics of the family
relationships are explored in relation to the missing ; in Maus this is formed by the loss of Artie s
mother to suicide in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the removing of Marji from the family unit,
primarily for education but also to protect her from the impact of the Iranian revolution on her
freedom. There is also evidence that in using the graphic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mala also seems to display some hoarding tendencies in this scene. Having survived the Holocaust
herself could this be a habit she s picked up from a time when food was scarce. Art, growing up in
America in the fifties and sixties, without the desperation and poverty of war torn Poland, finds Mala s
hoarding of the coffee frustrating, telling her she makes the worst coffee of anyone he s ever known.
These behaviours, born of a time when both Vladek and Mala were scared for their lives have
followed them into their new lives. Perhaps Art is unable to understand why they still behave in such a
way when they are safe. His frustration at his father throwing out his coat is illustrated later in Maus II
when they re on holiday in a cabin. Art is unable to find his trousers and his father replies that he has
tidied them away. Art s reply is an acerbic, well thanks for not throwing them away! . His anger, guilt
and frustration with his father is never far

Ronald Reagan s Life and Accomplishments
Ronald Reagan began his life in 1911 in Tampico, IL. When he was nine, his family moved to Dixon,
IL where he grew up. His father owned a shoe store in town. His mother raised him with the
fundamental belief in God that he carried with him throughout his life and presidency. He became a
devout Christian and was very involved in his church. He was a very kind and caring boy and very
much an introvert, something that he carried on later in life. He was very athletic, playing football and
various other sports. However, when he was a young man, he became a lifeguard on the Rock River a
few miles from Dixon. This is where he found what he was meant to do...to rescue people (Reagan,
n.d.). Reagan went to Eureka College and majored in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that a tax cut would stimulate the economy and help balance the budget. Reagan had the
uncanny ability to project what he wanted and he trusted people to do it. Sometimes that backfired on
him but for the most part, it stood firm. The Power of Persuasion was something that learned how to
do well from his acting career (Reagan, n.d.). In March 1981, he was the victim of an assassination
attempt. Afterwards, he became even more recluse than before. To say Reagan never had any friends
was an understatement. He had acquaintances but never had any real friends outside of his wife,
Nancy. This event changed him in more ways than one. He was much more evangelistic and more apt
to prayer than ever before. He did bounce back physically and went straight back to work on the
economic recovery. Reaganomics, as some people called it, was supposed to lead people out of
hardship and instead it had the opposite effect, at least at first. He had to choose between a balanced
budget or lose the strong military presence to fight against Communism. He absolutely refused to give
in when it came to the military presence, so he gave up on the balanced budget. By 1982, the recession
got stronger and the problem was that the military presence was so vast and cost so much that the
American people started rioting and asking the President to slow defense spending so that the

kilns, rice mills, agriculture, and embroidery factories. India is also a destination for women and girls
from Nepal and Bangladesh trafficked for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation. Bangladeshi
women reportedly are trafficked through India for sexual exploitation in Pakistan. Although Indians
migrate willingly to the Gulf for work as domestic servants and low skilled laborers, some later find
themselves in situations of involuntary servitude, including extended working hours, non payment of
wages, restrictions on movement by withholding of passports or confinement to the workplace, and
physical or sexual abuse. Bangladeshi and Nepali men and women are trafficked through India for

The Impact Of Japanese Occupation From 1941-1945 Affect...
How Did Japanese Occupation from 1941 1945 affect the History of HK
Introduction
The Japanese occupation of Hong Kong commenced on December 25, 1941 after Sir Mark Young, the
Governor of Hong Kong by then, had surrendered the land of Hong Kong to Japan. This surrender
took place after 18 days of aggressive battle between Canadian and British defenders and the
overwhelming Japanese Imperial militaries. Eventually, the occupation continued for 3 years and 8
months. This paper seeks to analyze the implications of the Japanese occupation to the people of Hong
Kong and find how the British Government had reformed the political system, recovered the economy,
and improved the people s living condition after 1945.

After they had dispossessed the merchants and banks of the properties, Japanese authorities
substituted domestic dollars for Japanese army yen; thus, Hong Kong currency was banned. The rate
of exchange was settled at two Hong Kong dollars to one Japanese military yen. After a while, in July
1942, the yen was re prized at 4 Hong Kong dollars to 1 Japanese yen, which implied that native
persons can exchange a smaller amount of military currency than before. The Japanese administration
traded the Hong Kong dollar to facilitate the funding of their wartime economy, whereas the residents
of Hong Kong became poor due to the enforced exchanges. Later in June 1943, yen was the only
lawful tender for formal undertakings. The prices of goods and services for selling had to be in yen.
Yen s progressive depreciation caused a serious price rises and instability, directly impacting the
residents of Hong Kong. In addition, the Japanese yen was afterwards confirmed valueless, and
residents, lacking ownership of their initial Hong Kong dollar, were on the

How Did Pope John Paul II Change The World
In a world full of pain, war, hunger, and horror, there are a few individuals that have redrawn the
world in their own ways, for either the better, or the worse. Out of the darkness, there will emerge
light, the light that will guide humanity to safety and glory. Saint Pope John Paul II, also known as
Karol Jósef Wojtyla was one of the most significant figures of world history. His wonderful actions for
the world contains, but is not limited to, changing events and people s personal view on things,
improving lives of many, many people, and being an excellent role model on how people should
behave.
Saint Pope John Paul II, born on May 18, 1920, shifted events and people s ideas of certain things.
First of all, he opposed capital punishment, which basically meant that he did not support the death
penalty. He was very forgiving for his people, and always believed for the ... Show more content on

It wasn t just the actions he made, but it was just as much the words that came out of his mouth. To
start off, the Pope was a voice of conscience and a modern day apostle. Even though there were many
apostles from the past, Saint Pope John Paul II has been described as a modern day apostle with
honour, and with reason. Next of all, he had many start qualities upon him that others may look up to
when in need of guidance of leadership. He had a philosopher s intellect, pilgrim s spiritual intensity,
and an actor s flair for the dramatics. That combination made him one of the most forceful moral
leaders of the modern age. (Thavis 1)
Last of all, Saint Pope John Paul II encouraged and advised people of many things that they could
change later on for their everyday lives. For example, he encouraged people to keep their eyes on the
long run and dream big (Gallo 1). Those many small yet powerful pieces of advice that were given by
the Pope are what helped Widmer, and might help many others, in the

The Right Supply Chain
The first step in devising an effective supply chain is to consider the nature of demand for your
product. For this many aspects are important: Product life cycle, demand predictability, product
variety etc. But any product can be broadly classified into as either a Functional Product or an
Innovative Product based on their demand patterns. Root cause for ineffectiveness of any supply chain
is the mismatch between the type of product and the type of supply chain. Functional Products are
generally staples or those generally bought from the grocery stores or retail outlets. They have stable
demands are price variations do not affect the demand drastically. Such products have long life cycles
but they invite competition and usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
{draw:frame} {draw:frame} {draw:frame} The problem occurs when companies move from
Functional Sphere to Innovative sphere without even realising. They start blaming the forecasting
department and implement unnecessary strategies for cutting down inventories, just in time delivery
schedules etc. They turn the predictable environment into an unpredictable one. After deciding on
whether the product offered id a functional or innovative, managers need to decide if their supply
chain is a functionally efficient one or market responsive one. Most companies introducing functional
products realise that they need to have efficient supply chains and it is rare to find a company in the
lower left hand of the above matrix. There has been an increase in the number of innovative products
attributable to either: 1) Increase in number of competitors 2) Increase in innovative products by the
existing customers to improve their profit margins Companies traditionally try to turn their functional
products into innovative ones but still focus on the physical efficiency of the supply chain rather than
improving their market responsiveness. Taking an example from the Computer manufacturing
industry, the mainframes were dominant technology almost 2 decades ago. The lead time quoted ways
upto two years and the sales team had to convince the customer about the lead time.

Brief Summary Of Survival In Auschwitz By Primo Levi
In Survival in Auschwitz, Primo Levi depicts a life where, under the severe conditions of hunger, cold,
illness, and constant fear, men are transformed into beasts, and where justice and morality become
insignificant in the fight for survival. Upon entering Auschwitz, families are separated and
immediately hundreds are sent to their deaths. Tattooed and given their new identity of serial numbers,
many forget their own past and their names. Initially, Levi accepts his imminent death as everyone
emphasizes that the only exit from Auschwitz is by way of the chimney. But for the next year, Levi
learns to live pragmatically and efficiently under the Nazis continuous brutality. In doing so, he
discovers two very different reactions from living in Auschwitz: those that are saved and those that are
drowned. The drowned rarely exist in normal society, but in Auschwitz, they are everywhere. For
many, the constant cruelty dehumanizes them to the level of animals, where men accept their fate and
work themselves to certain death. Conversely, a few manage to push back and use their strength,
intelligence, and patience to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Friendships were based on pragmatism and selfish interest. Faced with utter solitude, many prisoners
would lose all motivation for survival. Out of the thousands that entered Auschwitz weekly, only a few
hundred would survive. These usually included the most valuable of prisoners, such as doctors, tailors,
and shoemakers. Levi and many other camp veterans understood this and reacted to make themselves
appear useful and not to drown in their detestable conditions. In doing so, the saved depended on the
underground art of economizing on everything, on breath, movements, even thoughts. In the process,
Levi witnesses how this strategy often leads the saved to social savagery and how the struggle for life
is reduced to its primordial

Russian Orthodox Religion
The denomination that I have chosen to research is Russian Orthodox. The reason that I chose to write
on this religion is because I have been interested in learning about the Russian Orthodox religion and
all that it entails. The main points of this research paper is a quick history, some of their beliefs, and
how does their cross compare to the Roman Catholic cross.
The first point of Russian Orthodox is their history. The Russian Orthodox Church was founded in 988
AD, thus, being in existence for a little over one thousand years. According to tradition, St. Andrew
the First stopped at the Kievan hills to bless the future city of Kiev. The Byzantine Empire,

Marriage in the Orthodox Church is forever. It is not reduced to an exchange of vows or the
establishment of a legal contract between the bride and groom. In the Orthodox marriage ceremony,
the bride and groom offer their lives to Christ and be willing to die for Christ first then for each other.
The Church extends their mercy to divorcees, the Orthodox Church is grieved by the loss of the
marriage and the pain divorce causes. Marriage is understood as a sacrament in the Church. The
Church does not deal with divorce legal side of divorce. The Church will give with compassion and
the grace of god. After appropriate pastoral counsel, divorce may be allowed when reconciliation have
been tried and nothing else has worked. If people want a remarriage there are some service that they
have to go through for a second marriage includes prayers of repentance over the earlier divorce,
asking God s forgiveness and protection for the new union. A third marriage is generally not granted.
Clergy who are divorced may be removed at least for a short period of time from active ministry, and
are not permitted to remarry if they want to remain in the ministry. In the Catholic Church they have
the same idea about marriage but they have different idea about divorces. Divorces in the Catholic
Church are a little bit different: people can get an annulment. If they do get the divorce in the Catholic
Church people cannot receive Communion

World Peace
WORLD PEACE amp; SECURITY
WORLD PEACE
World peace is an ideal of freedom, peace, and happiness among and within all nations and/or people.
World peace is an idea of planetary non violence by which nations willingly cooperate, either
voluntarily or by virtue of a system of governance that prevents warfare. The term is sometimes used
to refer to a cessation of all hostility among all individuals. For example, World Peace could be
crossing boundaries via human rights, technology, education, engineering, medicine, diplomats and/or
an end to all forms of fighting.
Possibility
While world peace is theoretically possible, some believe that human nature inherently prevents it.[1]

Summary Of The Post American World
In the book The Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria, he spoke of the three economical shifts in
the world throughout history. Each one of these shifts has changed the world drastically, with political,
culture, and of course, economical differences in every country in the world. What Zakaria had
brought to my attention very early in the book was that we are currently living through the third
economical shift right now. To be honest, I had never really thought about where the world was
heading, and if I hadn t read this book, I would ve thought that the United States would remain the
main superpower in the world and the rest of the world would sort of stay at their current status. Poor
countries would remain poor, and every developed country ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As these countries adopt certain programs from the United States and improve them to make the
benefits better to help people gain more money, to grow their economies, America is being left in the
dust. As he says in the interview with BBC. The United States needs to reboot, and make changes in
its health care, pensions, social security, and energy (BBC, Zakaria). As the United States is for the
first time in a long time subject to a change in the world rather than making that change, the United
States will have to make some major changes to either keep up or get ahead of the other rising
countries. As Zakaria describes these possible changes it would literally change life in the U.S that we
have now, but change it for the better. This is shown by Zakaria s confidence in the U.S to always do
what has to be done, no matter what the circumstances. From this book Zakaria has taught me and all
of of his other readers that big changes are coming. That history as we know it is slowly being
rewritten as we know it. That what was seen as impossible even 10 years ago is a reality and we are
living through it, how exciting! The United States won t be the main superpower of the world,
countries we would never expect to rise economically are rising the superpower penthouse is growing.
Zaharia believes this Post American world will

The Pros And Cons Of Traditional Expatriation
3. Literature Review
3.1. How and why is this form of expatriation different from „traditional expatriation ?
Expatriation is a complicated and complex process which is influenced by a number of matters,
especially the qualification and fit in the subsidiary are mostly influenced by the expatriate him
/herself. However, how well an expatriate adjusts to the foreign environment is often also influenced
by how well his/her family, if they are coming with him/her, are able to adapt to the new surroundings.
In the following the terms traditional expatriation as well as dual career couple also referred to as
DCC, will be defined, furthermore a number of differentiating reasons will be mentioned.

even though the relocation would be favorable for one of the partners, if it is causing a net loss which
is of greater magnitude for the other partner foregoing the opportunity maximizes family utility
(Bielby and Bielby, 1992). As a result this model proposes that dual earning families migrate less than
families with a single earner (Mincer, 1978).
The second model is based on the social exchange theory (Emerson, 1976) and suggests similar
predictions. However, it differs from the one previously mentioned, as it introduces the concept of
power as the main tool through which decisions are made. Consequently, the partner with the greater
bargaining power (often determined through income) is likely to dictate the outcome of a relocation
decision (Hood, 1983).
Thirdly stands the gender role and provider role model. Hood (1983) claims that each partner
subscribes to regarding a certain deviation in respect of their roles in a family, which in consequence
affects the process of decision making. Undoubtedly, this model has experienced great shifts during
the last 20 years from a traditional male dominance as breadwinners to increasing numbers of primary
earning women (Richardson et al,

Solaris And Memento Analysis
Elizabeth Loftus is a psychological scientist who discusses memories, specifically false memories, in
her TED Talk How reliable is your memory? Ultimately, Loftus explains that it is possible to not only
have false memories, but it is also possible to feed people misinformation that in return alters one s
memory. This concept of false memories, and more broadly one s remembered past, is evident in a few
films we have studied in class. In both Solaris (Soderbergh) and Memento, improving one s self
knowledge was dependent on dealing with regret and guilt about one s remembered past. Solaris
follows the protagonist, Chris Kelvin, on his journey to the space station with the goal of helping the
scientists with an unspecified experience aboard the station. Shortly after his arrival, Kelvin
experiences the strange experience firsthand when his deceased wife Rheya appears in the middle of
the night. At first, Kelvin believes she is a figment of his imagination, or perhaps a dream, but soon he
discovers she is real. Kelvin quickly decides to rid the station of Rheya by sending her off in a
separate skyrocket; yet, to Kelvin s surprise Rheya materializes again that next night. In contrast, the
second time Rheya emerges, Kelvin decides not to kill her, but rather begins to question her existence.
It is argued that Solaris is able to reconstruct deceased ones from the memories of the scientists aboard
the station. This raises the following question: are the duplicates materializing on the space station real
people? Gordon has an unwavering opinion that these creatures are not human, and thus, should be
eradicated. However, Kelvin has already resurrected his love with the duplicate of Rheya, and believes
he could be happier living a life with her. Surprisingly, it is Rheya that indicates she is not the original
woman Kelvin is remembering, or dreaming about. Instead, she is a reconstruction of Kelvin s
remembered past of her. Kelvin s memories dictate how the duplicate Rheya speaks, moves, listens,
and feels. This is problematic because as Loftus explains, memory can be unreliable. To improve his
own self knowledge Kelvin must deal with the guilt of having hurt Rheya by leaving her and
potentially leading her to

environmental impact of the NorthConnex Tunnel is where there has been the clearance of land for the
infrastructure needed, and this is likely to have an impact on the flora and fauna in those areas as their
habitats are removed. The maps on the following page shows the endangered...vegetation and animal

Apart from during the construction of the tunnel, the local air quality is expected to improve, as the
ventilation stacks are to have an insignificant effect on the air quality as they are being built high
enough so that any pollutants are pumped high into the atmosphere. Also, the air quality modelling
that has been carried out (figure 4.1) has shown that the human made particulate matter (PM 2.5) is to
have a 38% reduction with the NorthConnex Tunnel, in 24 hour average concentrations, by 2029 as
shown in the graph below. When the NorthConnex tunnel is in use, there will be a reduction in the
exhaust emissions and the fuel usage in the area, as there will be higher average travel speeds than on

How To Calculate Child Support
Child support is not just handed out without a process in the Corona family law sector. There are
guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent
are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being.
Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support
1) The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support.
2) The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children.
3) The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead takes
into account various financial considerations as well.
These three factors are not the only ones used to calculate child ... Show more content on

It is known as medical support. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount.
The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross
income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets to
use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation.
What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court
considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage
regardless of which one carries it.
Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place.
The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation.
Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an
agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. Ideally, the goal is for both parties to come to a
reasonable agreement about child support, but that is not always possible. If litigation is necessary,
you will be pleased that you chose an attorney whether you pay or receive child

But Eunice Kennedy Shriver worried about something completely different, (and no, it wasn t Soviet

In the 1960 s, there was no conclusive research done that explained why mentally disabled people
were how they were. Because of this, society casted them aside, considering them useless and a waste
of time to deal with. The mentally disabled were frequently placed in mental facilities where
conditions were awful. A young patient at a mental facility recalled a punishment he received at
Rockland County Mental Asylum in the 60 s: When we started to misbehave, they would tie us down
with icy cold wet sheets. These were the types of punishment administered to mentally disabled
people because they didn t really know what else to do with them. Another social stigma around the
mentally disabled was that they brought a sort of shame to their families. In turn, many mentally
disabled children were kept hidden by the families to avoid embarrassment, and also because no one
thought they could function like normal members of society. Eunice

Essay about Multiculturalism In Canada
Is multiculturalism a disruptive or an integrative force in Canadian society?
In terms of education, multiculturalism is becoming increasingly disruptive in Canadian society. It
seems that there is a new issue in the media focus regarding education on a weekly basis. It s
becoming increasingly apparent that most, if not all issues in recent years stem from the debate of
whether to centralize or decentralize our current system of education. Proponents of centralization
argue that a standard national system of education will provide all people with access to the same
quality of education. On the other hand, proponent s of decentralization claim that individual

students in Ontario. Programs like standardized testing for teachers and students as well as the

succeed. These initiatives are part and parcel of increased demand by the Federal government to have
Canadian students rise to quot;levels equivalent to those achieved by students in Asia and Europe.
quot; (Lightbody, pg. 265) These steps however pay little heed to other cultures in the education
system. All courses on history or culture at the high school level are aimed to familiarize students with
the traditions, philosophy, literature and history of the western world. Proponents argue that this action
is appropriate since our country is based on a democracy founded in European ideals of government. It
is also claimed that there would not be enough time in the current school year to educate students on
every culture that has contributed to the construction of our society. Proponents for centralization
seem to prefer the quot;middle of the road approach quot; when making decisions on curriculum. It is
argued that trying to push the subject of multiculturalism too far would actually be a hindrance. Over
emphasis of multiculturalism may interfere with a student s

A Comparison Of Faith And The Future Of Religion
A Comparison of Faith
Faith, defined as a strong belief in something which cannot be proven, has been argued over countless
generations. Still, even without proof, individuals worldwide hold true to their faith each day. After
studying faith and religion in texts written by scholars with varying backgrounds, it is easy to see faith
is something which is widely disputed. Comparison of Sigmund Freud s The Future of an Illusion and
Paul Tillich s Dynamics of Faith, fully displays the discrepancies in points of view on the function of
faith, as well as the necessity of faith, in society; while the comparison of Viktor E. Frankl s Man s
Search for Meaning and Karl Marx s on the Future of Religion, demonstrate both similarities and
differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout his book, Tillich references faith as an ultimate concern to emphasize the importance of
faith in the personality of individuals. Furthermore, Tillich believes faith is a vital part of human
nature and that even the rejection of faith is, in itself, an act of faith. This displays Tillich s
understanding that faith will never disappear from society because it is a piece of the puzzle in what
makes up humanity (Tillich).
After summarizing both arguments, discernibly Sigmund Freud and Paul Tillich would hold opposing
views on both the function of faith and the future of faith. The disagreement would begin with the
function of religion in society, displayed when Tillich writes, The question raised by this book is
whether such belief is based on insight or on misunderstanding, and the question is unambiguously
that the rejection of faith is rooted in a complete misunderstanding of the nature of faith (146). Freud
believes religion is man being immature, but Tillich feels differently. Tillich perceives the rejection of
faith as the misunderstanding of the true nature of faith. If Tillich and Freud were to hold a debate,
Tillich would most likely discuss how Freud misunderstands faith s nature. Freud, however, would
respond with a discussion about how faith is man looking for security in the world.

Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover By Alfred Lord...
Somebody s Instead of Somebody
Women were to be seen, but not heard. Women were expected to become wives and use their wombs
to create a family. Women were expected to obey their husbands and do as they were told. A women s
role in Victorian society was to raise the children and make sure the household was kept clean.
Women were obligated to fulfill these societal values because they lived in a world where the men
dominated the social hierarchy, and women were not free to express nor be themselves. In the poem,
Mariana , written by Alfred Lord Tennyson, a woman named Mariana is waiting all night for a man to

Writers such as Tennyson and Browning explored the societal expectations placed on Victorian
women in their poems by describing them as powerless and weak woman who, in one way or another,
need a man. Having to rely on a man for survival was normal for Victorian woman. Women
understood that their destiny was to follow in the traditions of finding a husband and keeping him
happy and never having an opinion on anything. It is as if the woman was purposely meant to be
silenced and left to just be a small detail in terms of the big picture just to ensure the guarantee of the
official male power, a power that, deeming women unprincipled and emotional, advocated confining
them to the domestic sphere where their true self could be easily neutralized (Avarvarei 536). Men
created the idea of women being these fragile human beings who aren t smart enough to make their
own decisions and needing a man to make them happy. Men needed to convince themselves that
women were not capable of caring for themselves nor making their own decisions because men need
to feel needed. A man s ego is not satisfied unless a damsel in distress needs him to save her and
become this huge hero that she will forever have to repay for essentially saving her life. Tennyson sets
the tone of Mariana by describing the setting in a way that makes it sound ugly, sad and

What Causes Obesity Is The Relationship Of Energy Intake...
The most rudimentary explanation for what causes obesity is the relationship of energy intake and
expenditure and its effect on energy balance. If energy intake is greater than energy expenditure,
weight gain will occur. In contrast, energy expenditure in excess of energy intake will result in weight
loss ( Dietz Gortmaker, 2001). However, Obesity is a complex disease that involves interactions
between genetics, regulation of energy balance, and strong environmental influences such as increased
caloric intake and decreased physical activity in today s modern society. The genetic approach both in
animal models and in humans has allowed immense progress in the understanding of body weight
regulation. Monogenic forms of obesity in humans have been characterized and result from mutations
in genes involved in the central pathways of food intake regulation. However, these cases are
extremely rare and generally obesity must be considered as a complex polygenic disease involving
interactions between multiple genes and the environment (Clement Ferre, 2003) Genetics There are
several genetic factors that contribute to an individual s predisposition towards obesity in a common
environment. Several investigators have provided evidence for an association between candidate
genes and obesity related phenotypes. Currently, there are greater than 600 genes, markers and
chromosomal regions linked to obesity related phenotypes (Pérusse et al., 2005). In a large

  • 8. Maus Parent Child Relationship Essay How do graphic novels allow for explorations of parent child relationships and/or the idea of family? This essay will look at the question of how graphic novels allow for the exploration of parent child relationships and the idea of intergenerational family relations using primarily the works Maus by Art Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjani Satrapi. The primary relations are key to exploring this concept of family. In Maus the key relationship is between the characters Artie and Vladek, son and father respectively and Marji and her unnamed parents and grandmother. The dynamics of the family relationships are explored in relation to the missing ; in Maus this is formed by the loss of Artie s mother to suicide in the aftermath of the Holocaust and the removing of Marji from the family unit, primarily for education but also to protect her from the impact of the Iranian revolution on her freedom. In March 1981, he was the victim of an assassination attempt. Afterwards, he became even more recluse than before. To say Reagan never had any friends was an understatement. He had acquaintances but never had any real friends outside of his wife, Nancy. This event changed him in more ways than one. He was much more evangelistic and more apt to prayer than ever before. He did bounce back physically and went straight back to work on the economic recovery. Reaganomics, as some people called it, was supposed to lead people out of hardship and instead it had the opposite effect, at least at first. He had to choose between a balanced budget or lose the strong military presence to fight against Communism. He absolutely refused to give in when it came to the military presence, so he gave up on the balanced budget. How Did Japanese Occupation from 1941 1945 affect the History of HK Introduction The Japanese occupation of Hong Kong commenced on December 25, 1941 after Sir Mark Young, the Governor of Hong Kong by then, had surrendered the land of Hong Kong to Japan. This surrender took place after 18 days of aggressive battle between Canadian and British defenders and the overwhelming Japanese Imperial militaries. For this many aspects are important: Product life cycle, demand predictability, product variety etc. But any product can be broadly classified into as either a Functional Product or an Innovative Product based on their demand patterns. Root cause for ineffectiveness of any supply chain is the mismatch between the type of product and the type of supply chain. But for the next year, Levi learns to live pragmatically and efficiently under the Nazis continuous brutality. In doing so, he discovers two very different reactions from living in Auschwitz: those that are saved and those that are drowned. The drowned rarely exist in normal society, but in Auschwitz, they are everywhere. The second model is based on the social exchange theory (Emerson, 1976) and suggests similar predictions. However, it differs from the one previously mentioned, as it introduces the concept of power as the main tool through which decisions are made. • 27. Solaris And Memento Analysis Elizabeth Loftus is a psychological scientist who discusses memories, specifically false memories, in her TED Talk How reliable is your memory? Ultimately, Loftus explains that it is possible to not only have false memories, but it is also possible to feed people misinformation that in return alters one s memory. This concept of false memories, and more broadly one s remembered past, is evident in a few films we have studied in class. In both Solaris (Soderbergh) and Memento, improving one s self knowledge was dependent on dealing with regret and guilt about one s remembered past. Solaris follows the protagonist, Chris Kelvin, on his journey to the space station with the goal of helping the scientists with an unspecified experience aboard the station. Shortly after his arrival, Kelvin experiences the strange experience firsthand when his deceased wife Rheya appears in the middle of the night. At first, Kelvin believes she is a figment of his imagination, or perhaps a dream, but soon he discovers she is real. Kelvin quickly decides to rid the station of Rheya by sending her off in a separate skyrocket; yet, to Kelvin s surprise Rheya materializes again that next night. In contrast, the second time Rheya emerges, Kelvin decides not to kill her, but rather begins to question her existence. It is argued that Solaris is able to reconstruct deceased ones from the memories of the scientists aboard the station. This raises the following question: are the duplicates materializing on the space station real people? Gordon has an unwavering opinion that these creatures are not human, and thus, should be eradicated. However, Kelvin has already resurrected his love with the duplicate of Rheya, and believes he could be happier living a life with her. Surprisingly, it is Rheya that indicates she is not the original woman Kelvin is remembering, or dreaming about. Instead, she is a reconstruction of Kelvin s remembered past of her. Kelvin s memories dictate how the duplicate Rheya speaks, moves, listens, and feels. This is problematic because as Loftus explains, memory can be unreliable. To improve his own self knowledge Kelvin must deal with the guilt of having hurt Rheya by leaving her and potentially leading her to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being. Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support 1) The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support. 2) The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children. 3) The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead takes into account various financial considerations as well. These three factors are not the only ones used to calculate child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is known as medical support. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount. The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets to use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation. What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage regardless of which one carries it. Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place. The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation. Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. Ideally, the goal is for both parties to come to a reasonable agreement about child support, but that is not always possible. If litigation is necessary, you will be pleased that you chose an attorney whether you pay or receive child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was concerned about the state how mentally disabled people across America were treated. In the 1960 s, there was no conclusive research done that explained why mentally disabled people were how they were. Because of this, society casted them aside, considering them useless and a waste of time to deal with. The mentally disabled were frequently placed in mental facilities where conditions were awful. A young patient at a mental facility recalled a punishment he received at Rockland County Mental Asylum in the 60 s: When we started to misbehave, they would tie us down with icy cold wet sheets. These were the types of punishment administered to mentally disabled people because they didn t really know what else to do with them. Another social stigma around the mentally disabled was that they brought a sort of shame to their families. In turn, many mentally disabled children were kept hidden by the families to avoid embarrassment, and also because no one thought they could function like normal members of society. Eunice ... In terms of education, multiculturalism is becoming increasingly disruptive in Canadian society. It seems that there is a new issue in the media focus regarding education on a weekly basis. It s becoming increasingly apparent that most, if not all issues in recent years stem from the debate of whether to centralize or decentralize our current system of education. Proponents of centralization argue that a standard national system of education will provide all people with access to the same quality of education. Programs like standardized testing for teachers and students as well as the standardization of the curriculum were implemented. These initiatives are part and parcel of increased demand by the Federal government to have Canadian students rise to quot;levels equivalent to those achieved by students in Asia and Europe. quot; (Lightbody, pg. 265) These steps however pay little heed to other cultures in the education system. All courses on history or culture at the high school level are aimed to familiarize students with the traditions, philosophy, literature and history of the western world. Proponents argue that this action is appropriate since our country is based on a democracy founded in European ideals of government. It is also claimed that there would not be enough time in the current school year to educate students on every culture that has contributed to the construction of our society. Proponents for centralization seem to prefer the quot;middle of the road approach quot; when making decisions on curriculum. Still, even without proof, individuals worldwide hold true to their faith each day. After studying faith and religion in texts written by scholars with varying backgrounds, it is easy to see faith is something which is widely disputed. Comparison of Sigmund Freud s The Future of an Illusion and Paul Tillich s Dynamics of Faith, fully displays the discrepancies in points of view on the function of faith, as well as the necessity of faith, in society; while the comparison of Viktor E. Throughout his book, Tillich references faith as an ultimate concern to emphasize the importance of faith in the personality of individuals. Furthermore, Tillich believes faith is a vital part of human nature and that even the rejection of faith is, in itself, an act of faith. This displays Tillich s understanding that faith will never disappear from society because it is a piece of the puzzle in what makes up humanity (Tillich). After summarizing both arguments, discernibly Sigmund Freud and Paul Tillich would hold opposing views on both the function of faith and the future of faith. The disagreement would begin with the function of religion in society, displayed when Tillich writes, The question raised by this book is whether such belief is based on insight or on misunderstanding, and the question is unambiguously that the rejection of faith is rooted in a complete misunderstanding of the nature of faith (146). Freud believes religion is man being immature, but Tillich feels differently. Tillich perceives the rejection of faith as the misunderstanding of the true nature of faith. If Tillich and Freud were to hold a debate, Tillich would most likely discuss how Freud misunderstands faith s nature. Freud, however, would respond with a discussion about how faith is man looking for security in the world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women were expected to become wives and use their wombs to create a family. Women were expected to obey their husbands and do as they were told. A women s role in Victorian society was to raise the children and make sure the household was kept clean. Women were obligated to fulfill these societal values because they lived in a world where the men dominated the social hierarchy, and women were not free to express nor be themselves. Writers such as Tennyson and Browning explored the societal expectations placed on Victorian women in their poems by describing them as powerless and weak woman who, in one way or another, need a man. Having to rely on a man for survival was normal for Victorian woman. Women understood that their destiny was to follow in the traditions of finding a husband and keeping him happy and never having an opinion on anything. It is as if the woman was purposely meant to be silenced and left to just be a small detail in terms of the big picture just to ensure the guarantee of the official male power, a power that, deeming women unprincipled and emotional, advocated confining them to the domestic sphere where their true self could be easily neutralized (Avarvarei 536). Men created the idea of women being these fragile human beings who aren t smart enough to make their own decisions and needing a man to make them happy. Men needed to convince themselves that women were not capable of caring for themselves nor making their own decisions because men need to feel needed. • 40. What Causes Obesity Is The Relationship Of Energy Intake... The most rudimentary explanation for what causes obesity is the relationship of energy intake and expenditure and its effect on energy balance. If energy intake is greater than energy expenditure, weight gain will occur. In contrast, energy expenditure in excess of energy intake will result in weight loss ( Dietz Gortmaker, 2001). However, Obesity is a complex disease that involves interactions between genetics, regulation of energy balance, and strong environmental influences such as increased caloric intake and decreased physical activity in today s modern society. The genetic approach both in animal models and in humans has allowed immense progress in the understanding of body weight regulation. Monogenic forms of obesity in humans have been characterized and result from mutations in genes involved in the central pathways of food intake regulation. However, these cases are extremely rare and generally obesity must be considered as a complex polygenic disease involving interactions between multiple genes and the environment (Clement Ferre, 2003) Genetics There are several genetic factors that contribute to an individual s predisposition towards obesity in a common environment. Several investigators have provided evidence for an association between candidate genes and obesity related phenotypes. Currently, there are greater than 600 genes, markers and chromosomal regions linked to obesity related phenotypes (Pérusse et al., 2005). In a large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
