Hinduism As A Family Of Beliefs
Dissimilar to Christianity, Hinduism is portrayed as a family of beliefs. Hinduism unites the worship
of many gods with a belief in a single divine reality (Molloy, 75). Hinduism can be compared to that
of the Ganga Ma, a significant river in the Indian culture. Comparing it with the river saying that it
flows and gains momentum. The Hindus have four very important life goals; kama or pleasure, artha
or economic security, dharma or social and religious duty, and moksha or complete freedom. While
Hinduism consist of more than one god, individuals tend to focus on a particular god. Three gods are
particularly central in the life of Hinduism. The three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, represent
creation, preservation, and destruction. (Molloy, 75). Brahma is the god of creation. In today s world,
he is the least worshipped god in India. There are only two temples in all of India dedicated to him
(Brahma). Brahma has a unique look, with four heads and four arms. The second god, Vishnu, is the
god of preservation. Thus far in creation, he has been said to be incarnated nine times. Worshippers
believe that he will incarnate one last time near the end of the world. Similarly, to what Paul thought
of Jesus, Like any major god, Vishnu is involved in a number of colorful stories which illustrate his
virtues as the protector of cosmic order (Vishnu). Vishnu is uniquely depicted by having blue skin, and
four arms. In his four hands, he holds objects representing what he is dependable for. Shiva, the last
god, is the god of destruction. In Hinduism, destruction is considered necessary for new life forms to
appear. Shiva is portrayed by his blue face and white body, three eyes, and four arms. Christianity and
Hinduism each have their own form of practices and rituals. Christians have rituals that are called
sacraments. There are seven sacraments throughout life that a Christian can devote themselves to.
Baptism is the ritual cleansing with water, which is an ancient form of purification, which traditionally
happens shortly after birth. Eucharist is the next sacrament which represents Lord s Supper. The
Eucharist represents the body and blood of Jesus. Confirmation is the blessing of believers after
baptism in the

Changing A Company s Culture
Changing a Company s Culture
When it comes to corporate culture, there would be no better example than Apple Computer as how
change can take place based on the leadership of a single individual. This would be no other than
Steven Paul Jobs, better known to the world of Steve Jobs. Mr. Jobs was worth slightly over million
dollars at the age of 23. By the time he was 24 years old he was worth just over $10 million and by the
time he reached the age of 25 was worth well over $100 million dollars. A staggering difference in just
a three year period (Denning, 2011).
In the interview that was given to Robert Cringely in 1995 for a show that was going to air on the
Public Broadcasting System (PBS) entitled Triumph of the Nerds (Denning, 2011) Steve Jobs tells
how he created the culture at Apple from being different than the status quo. He speaks at length about
costs and how the accountants would never seem to see eye to eye with him when it came to cost.
What Jobs found along the way was that is just the way things were always done in the past but other
institutions and that was not going to be the case at Apple Computer. He knew he could do better and
change the way people would think even when it came to the accounting department at Apple (Jobs,
Cringely, Sen, 1995).
At the time the interview was given Steve Jobs was no longer working for Apple even though he was
its founder he had resigned from the company 10 years prior and many things have changed for the
worse at Apple

The Hidden Curriculum In Education

Hidden Curriculum essay
This essay will explain what the Hidden Curriculum is and its implications on issues in the South
African system. The essay will also reflect my understanding of the concept hidden curriculum. I will
also explain the different levels in the educational system. The second section of the essay I will focus
on what I have identified as the hidden curriculum during my teaching practice experience. In my
conclusion I will address the hidden curriculum in order to redress the concern I have identified.
The hidden curriculum is lessons that we as educators teach informally or unintentionally at school.
Learners will learn unintended values, beliefs, behaviours and norms in the classroom and the social
learning environment (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). They may learn how to interact with
other learners for example debates and class discussions and group work. Hidden curriculum will
initially begin at a young age for learners. In primary school they will be taught how to greet an
educator and to say please and thank you (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). We can basically

During my classroom observations it was clear that parents are transferring a lot of the blame or
responsibility to the schools and educators. Educators had to teach the learners to greet and respect
other learners. The principal also made use of the hidden curriculum by telling educators to see that
the learners are in class during periods and to speak to learners that are a problem. Another example
that I saw during my teaching experience was that if learners got good grades and turn in their
homework on time or even listen to the educator during the class they were rewarded. By doing this
the educator taught the learners how to behave as well as to take pride in their

Life And Discoveries Of Louis Leakey
The Life and Discoveries of Louis Leakey
Me: Hi and welcome to this is your life. Tonight s guest is the one and only Louis Leakey. (Throws
arms in the air in excitement then adjusts glasses).
Louis: Um ... Hi
Me: (Laughs awkwardly) Anyway... Louis along with his wife Mary were both very passionate about
their research into evolution and proving Darwin s Out of Africa theory.
Louis: Oh yes, yes together we created many research questions we wished to investigate. Some of
these questions were how do the remains of animals and or tools excavated in Africa inform and
contribute to theory of evolution? In what ways do the tools found near Kikuyu corroborate with

Me: After his then infamous scandal and Cambridge University turning their back on him Louis
Leakey began his own expeditions (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2013), in Tanzania where he explored
the fossil rich strata of Olduvai Gorge (Figure 4). In 1937 he once gain returned to his home and

along with two young sons to support, Leakey took the position of curator at the Kenya National

Louis: Don t forget that as well as working as a curator I worked for the British government, in the
late 30 s to early 50 s to help stop the spread of anti British propaganda (Encyclopedia Britannica,

Me: Okay.... (Rolls eyes) Of more significance to his career, in 1947, Leakey put forth, the first Pan
African Congress of Prehistory. Luckily for him this venture helped improve his incredibly damaged
reputation due to its remarkable success (Bowman Kruhm, M. 2005).

Equine Therapy Research Paper
The Life Changing Treatment When Columbus brought the first horses to the United States, he had no
idea he had brought the animal that would later bring the hope back into people s lives. Horses have
always been a huge part in the lives of people all around the world, but today they have become
something much more than an animal. They have become best friends with society and are now being
used to give various people with different disabilities the amazing feeling of security and confidence.
Equine Therapy has opened a new world to the people who have disabilities. Equine Therapy is for
people who cannot understand the real world like most of us can. Before becoming an Equine
Therapist, one must analyze the qualifications, training, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

years. Therapists need to keep their certifications up to date. The therapist must have 6,000 hours
(three full years) experience of hands on work with horses, and 100 hours of education in the horse
profession. This is important, this way you know how to react if there is something wrong with the
horse. Therapists must have a degree in a mental health field as a practice. Equine Therapists make
different salaries depending on the degree that they have. They usually start out at $26,000 and end up
making anywhere from $29,500 to $50,000 annually.
Equine Therapy does have its downfalls, some patients walk away and never come back, but when the
patient comes back and heals, that is when therapists know that they are doing some good in this crazy
world. Thousands of lives have been changed by these magnificent creatures. Parents can now give
their children the medication that they need. With the help of horses, therapists are able to give the
veterans their lives back by making the veteran as comfortable as possible with the civilian

Half Life Lab Report
In this experiment we will explore the meaning of half life. We will accomplish this by getting a
handful of un popped popcorn and cooking them in a pan. We will count how long it takes for half of
the popcorn to pop. In this experiment un popped popcorn will resemble a radioactive nucleus whilst
popped nuclei will resemble non radioactive nuclei. When the popcorn is popped it means that the
nucleus is stable. In this experiment, we discovered that we cannot predict when half of the
radioactive nuclei when disappear the first time over although when the first half life occurs we are
able to calculate the half life in the future. Half life is the amount of time taken for half of the
radioactive nuclei to disappear. In this experiment we decided to put 16 pieces of popcorn in a pot and
then counted the seconds it took before they popped. The time it took for the number of un popped
popcorn to half from 16 to 8 was 19 seconds. It then went from 8 to 4 in 13 seconds, 4 to 2 in 12
seconds and lastly 2 to 1 in 10 seconds. This made us come to the conclusion that the average half life
of this experiment was 13.5 seconds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hey there! Long time, no see. With June right around the corner, the Montreal Canadiens enter one of

American Jacques Rousseau Women
ean Jacques Rousseau, an eighteenth century French philosopher, was the only Enlightenment thinker
that wrote two social contract theories. In each of Rousseau s narratives, he completely disregards
women. Throughout all of Rousseau s work, but Emile in particular, he emphasizes women as passive
agents in the world. In Pacha Mama, Rousseau, and the Femini, Nalinia Persram, a contemporary
philosopher, argues that women s superiority extends from the private sphere extends into the public
sphere. (236) Women are only superior as long as they maintain control of nature and nurture. (237)
When both Rousseau and Persram use these ideas in order to restrict women to their gender, they
identify women as passive agents and thus, establish gender inequalities. ... Show more content on

In this work, he traces Emile from birth to adulthood in order to explain that education comes from
nature, experience, and others. In Book V, Rousseau uses Sophy to explain how to educate women,
who he believes do not have the same rational capacity as men. Rousseau states, The man should be
strong and active; the woman should be weak and passive. (2) Rousseau endorsed patriarchal societies
which deemed women incompetent, weak, and in need of protection. Men only depend on women
because they want women, whereas women need and want men. In Rousseau s understanding, women
are not created as equal to men. Instead, women serve as the resources of men; therefore, females are
taught only how to serve men. (2) In this social structure, women s statuses depended on men; women
were the property of their fathers and husbands. Rousseau confines women to traditional gender norms
by creating a separate education system for men and

Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of
reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s
trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with
upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to
approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some
received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an
attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt
s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as
they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in
saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse
of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached
to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the
New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was
passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. This act helped produce loans, credit and investment
opportunities for the public. The production

Why Mitochondria And The Cell With Versatile Operating...
Abstract:
Although mitochondria and chloroplasts encodes handful of their own proteins, however, majority of
their required proteins have to be synthesized in the cytosol and translocated into their correct
destinations using specialized transporting networks: TOM/TIM complexes in mitochondria and
TOC/TIC complexes in chloroplasts. Molecular chaperones play critical roles in facilitating functional
competent protein import from the cytosol to their correct destinations, utilizing catalytic motor
components and other transporting channels. Biogenesis of both mitochondria and chloroplasts and
their maintenances in terms of transcription, translation and protein import into their various numerous
compartments requires very tight coordination to overcome energetic barriers, protein aggregation and
protein degradation. This essay describes molecular chaperones involvement in protein import from
the cytosol into these double membraned organelle compartments.
Introduction:
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell with versatile operating systems (i.e. converts energy
derived from foods into cellular energy e.g. ATP, Amino Acid and lipid metabolisms, iron sulphur
clusters and haem biosynthesis, and also the regulation of apoptosis) (Harbauer et al., 2014, Bolender
et al., 2008, Wiedemann et al., 2004). Equally, chloroplasts are also very versatile and operates several
metabolic and cellular processes (i.e. photosynthesis, amino acid and lipid metabolism, cellular

How Does Atwood Use Language In The Handmaids Tale
How does Atwood presents the importance of language in The Handmaid s Tale? Throughout the
novel, we see evidence of indoctrination in all of the characters. This indoctrination process appears to
be primarily carried out by Gilead s manipulation of language among its residents. Language is a
powerful tool in shaping our thoughts and how we behave; the control and exploitation of discourse in
the regime shows us not only this, but also how language can provide power as well as take it away.
Gilead s government relies heavily on language from the bible to help maintain its theocratic
dictatorship. It does this by taking religious quotes such as Give me children or else I die out of
context and bending the meaning to impose their ideologies. A quote that is made to be taken quite
literally in Gilead as the women are told it is their sole purpose to reproduce and if they do not they
are an unwoman a disturbing term which implies that in the eyes of Gilead, unless the women meet its
ideology, they are useless and their humanity is taken away from them. ... Show more content on

Neoliberalism And Video Games
What do Neoliberalism and video games have in common? Hegemony, as authors William K. Carroll,
Matthew Greeno, and Robert Cassar claim. Hegemony, a term coined by philosopher Antonio
Gramsci; is defined as consent that is given by a civil society (Carroll Greeno: 122). Through both
articles, hegemony is seen as playing an important role in benefiting the ruling class or the capitalists.
It consists of a specific set of ideas which produce an subconscious consensus among the population
of which they struggle to deviate from, due to the consequences which may arise if they choose to go
against policies which support the economic good of the neoliberal/capitalist system. As Cassar
explains in his article, not only does the ruling class use their power to reinforce hegemonic ideologies

video games) which individuals use leisurely to impose them as well. Carroll and Greeno argue how
consent through hegemony continues to sustain neoliberalism. They focus on three specific elements:
cultural fragmentation, dispossession and market insulation, and globalization from above. As
described by the authors, neoliberalism is comprised of elements such as privatization, globalization
or free trade , and the prevention of democracy intervening with business and economic growth. They
also point out that the goal of neoliberalism is to restore the optimal conditions for capital
accumulations (Carroll Greeno 126), even if it means that it serves as a hindrance to social safety nets
such as welfare, housing, and public pensions. Essentially, neoliberalism which is considerably the
modern form of capitalism, benefits the ruling class ; through the exploitation of the working class. It
is argued that

Social Structure In Ancient Greece
One of the earlier and much larger ancient civilizations that is widely studied are those of the Greeks.
Ancient Greece is a very popular theme of study covered in many disciplines such as philosophy,
science, history and anthropology amongst others. The reason for this, I believe, is primarily due to its
complex social structure in ancient time and a strong sense of culture and Hellenistic pride as
portrayed in their art, literature and architecture. Due to the fact that Greece was never unified as
political entities lived as city states and that independence would suggest variation in styles amongst
the different city states, more emphasis would be place on the pottery decorations of Athens and its
immediate surroundings. For the duration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hunter Thompson Gonzo Journalism
The excess use of guns, booze, and too many drugs to count easily summarizes the life and writing of
Hunter S. Thompson. The American culture of the 1960s began to alter with the hippie generation, and
the same old drab writing was not fulfilling the desires of the American reader. During the 1970s,
American literature and journalism transformed in a way that no one would have ever been able to
predict. Thompson found a way to turn the tables, and effected generations to come in a new dynamic
writing style that many authors and journalist nowadays adopt. The life and writing of Hunter S.
Thompson had great influence on the creation of gonzo journalism, politics, and American culture.
Even after forty years, Hunter S. Thompson s creation of gonzo journalism became a fashionable style
of writing that remains impersonated. Gonzo journalism has numerous different characteristics; one of
the most predominant is writing as a triple agent. To write in this style one becomes the biographical
author and a narrator at the same time. In a journal from Olga Fayzullina she describes gonzo
journalism as, The author s position is always dual, on the one hand, he is an observer and witness of
real events, on the other hand, and he is an active participant who shows the high degree of reflection
and self reflection. (276). Furthermore, another key to gonzo journalism is the use of fact and fiction
integrated together to portray a desired message to the reader. The use of gonzo journalism

1. The thing that motivated and sustained the long distance commerce of the Silk Roads, Sea Roads,

Since the U.S. Copyright Act became law in 1790, the copyright term has been increasing. Copyright
is an intangible property right granted by federal statue to the author or originator of certain literacy or

the right to print, re print, or publish their work for 14 years and then to renew for another 14. In 1998,
Congress passed the Sonny Bono Copyright Act also known as the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act,
which extended protection from life of the author plus 70 years as well as taking away the need for a
copyright notice and registration. The result was that many whom did not have copyright protection
due to lack of copyright notice and registration were now protected. Following the Mickey Mouse
Copyright Act, they passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which intended to create a new
updated version of copyright laws to deal with the challenges of regulating digital material. It aimed to
protect the rights of both copyright owners and consumers, and without it copyright owners would
have a difficult time obtaining legal action against those who copy copyrighted material. Copyright act
laws should be extended for various reasons, one is that, it gives the creator more time to profit from it
and if the creator dies early on it will be passed on to their family. Knowing that work will be
copyrighted for a longer time gives them a chance to encourage their creativity and

Importance Of Teaching English
Assignment 1, Muntasir
In my country, English is taught as a foreign language. The school that I was teaching is a bilingual
school. They use English as one of instruction languages. However, in a certain level, the instruction
language is mixed between L1 and English depending on the need of students. I teach English for
senior high school students. Their ages are ranging from 13 to 14. The students in this context are first
grade students in senior high school. They are divided into two level. The one that I am preparing the
material for is the pre intermediate level students. These students can understand a simple text even
though they do not understand all vocabulary. They read graded reader book every week and have a
test every two month. This reading activity aims for comprehension and vocabulary practice.t
I choose this text because of the theme of the text is familiar to students daily life. This text is about
electronic rubbish (Appendix). Moreover, I think students will enjoy reading this text as it provides
interesting information about electronic devices that they regularly interact with. I hope that the
familiarity of content will help their understanding.
After running this text into Lexical Tutor website, I find that 77.06% of text categorize as K1 and
12.84% of it categorizes as K2. However, there are some words which are relatively low frequency

The Service Sector Management Class
Interactive, collaborative conversations with customers are essential for gaining critical information
and insight about customers situations and enable salespeople to offer unique, added value solutions
for customers needs. (SELL4, Cengage Learning, 82) Communication skills, to me, is the main topic
within the Service Sector Management class. The reason I believe this is because in order to build
trust, sale, understand the buyer, etc. you must be able to talk to the customers. Trust based sales
communication is when you must talk with the customer rather than at them. It is a collaborative and
two way form of communication that allows buyers and sellers to better understand the need of
situations and working together to create the best responses for resolving the customer s needs. Trust
based communication is the sharing of importance between buying and selling individuals that result
from the interactive process of exchanging information and ideas. With this emphasis on establishing
understanding, communication is essential throughout each stage of the selling process. Effective
communication skills are needed to classify buying needs and to demonstrate to buyers how a
salesperson s planned solution can satisfy those needs better than competitors. The critical capabilities
for effective selling include questioning, listening, giving information, nonverbal communication, and
written communication skills. Although each of these skills are needed in everyday life, they

Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal Essay

Under Pressure, Dubai Drops Port Deal The Dubai Port World controversy began in February 2006
and rose to prominence as a national security debate in the United States. At issue was the sale of port
management businesses in six major U.S. seaports to a company based in the United Arab Emirates,
and whether such a sale would compromise port security. The controversy pertained to management
contracts of six major United States ports. The purchaser was DP World, a state owned company in the
U.A.E. The contracts had already been foreign owned, by Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation
Company (P O), a British firm taken over by DPW, completed in March 2006. Although ... Show more

First, these ports are strategic for the country, and it is better to be managed by the US Company.
Second, more US citizens will be employed. Finally, the most important factor is security. The country
will be safer when these ports are managed by Americans. The safety of the country and support of
domestic companies could have influence on the reversal of the ports deal. The US public concerns
did not have big influence on a business decision made by a Dubai company. More influence had the
political pressure. However, public concern also played its role in this case. For example, people s
opinion was that foreign states, especially those related to terrorism in the past, could not be trusted
with strategic American assets. Also, they thought that foreign countries should not have managerial
responsibilities over ports due to divided loyalties and concerns over national independence.
Accordingly, all these public opinions were reflected and expressed by the politicians whose pressure
constrained Dubai Company to withdraw. Thinking that transportation takes place through a global
network of companies is slightly incorrect. Ports are vulnerable to the entry of terrorists or illicit
weapons because of the large number of containers that enter U.S. territory. Accordingly, no foreign
government should be permitted to own such strategic assets. There are many business assets that can
be owned by foreign companies and

Myasthenia Gravis Essay
What is Myasthenia gravis ?
Myasthenia gravis is considered as one of the most important common neuromuscular disorders.
Although it is categorized as a neuromuscular disease , there are few other factors other than acquired
immunological abnormality , like genetic abnormality in neuromuscular junction , and some relations
to thymus diseases and cancers.
Myasthenia gravis presents clinically in a variety of ways, with varied symptoms that make it difficult
to diagnose it in initial stages.
As MG became the subject of interest to neurologists mostly in the past years , however it is still
categorized as an autoimmune disease , and much about pathophysiology and immunopathology of
MG has been learned in the past 20 years.
The origin of the autoimmune dysfunction in MG patients is unknown, but thymic abnormalities,
defects in immune regulation and sex hormones play major roles in patients with anti AChR
antibodies. Genetic predisposition is also likely to influence the occurrence of the disease as
mentioned above.
Pathogenesis And Factors :
Autoimmune factors :
As mentioned previously , MG is mostly considered as an acquired autoimmune disease of the
neuromuscular junction. The autoimmune system mostly attacks the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors
located in the postsynaptic endplate membrane.
In MG, the postsynaptic muscle membrane is distorted and simplified, having lost its normal folded
shape, the concentration of acetylcholine receptors on the muscle

architectural space is felt through by people sensorial experience though that it is more important than

Dionyyso The Role Of The God
The character of Dionysos assumes itself in many ways throughout Euripides Bacchae, the role of the
god, his intentions and subsequently his actions within the text are disorderly due to the comic then
tragic nature of the play, Dionysos is most definitely seen as a psychological force within the text.
However, Dionysos is, to a greater degree, understood to be a vindictive and heartless god when
considering the nature of his relationships to humans and the greater role he plays. The Bacchae is
commentary on the relationship between gods and mortals as gods play psychological forces in the
realm of men, however vindictive their intentions may be. This is seen in instances in the play where
Dionysos uses his title as a god to further his agenda. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By analysing the dialogue provided and considering the religious atmosphere in ancient Greece at the

most easily understood due to his lack of human morals, that because of his anthropomorphic nature,
cannot be discounted in modern analysis of his character. Overall Dionysos has proven to be cruel and
lacking compassion. His relationship to mortals is that based on obedience as Cadmus states, Angry

Great Depression In Canada Essay
The Great Depression was a devastating predicament, with consequences affecting counties all around
the world. North America was a region that was hit particularly hard during this time in history. Many
people were left unemployed, hungry and often homeless. Losses of jobs, savings and declines in the
economy were widespread, stretching from one coast of the nation to the other. With an
unemployment rate at the time of 26.6%, majority of the population was forced onto relief, for
example, in Saskatchewan, losses forced 66% of the rural population onto relief (Struthers, 2013,
November 7a). The era experienced the lowest population growth in Canada since the 1880 s, with the
number of immigrants dropping from 169,000 to 12,000 within 5 years, ... Show more content on

movies started to become increasingly popular due to advancements in in sound and color for movies

actresses, watching, acting in and producing films. The upbeat, loud, almost funky swing and big band
music was a large part of the culture, calling for a various number of new dances and musical
activities. During the burden of the time, sports in Canada seemed to almost contradict the
expectations and excel. With many victories for Canadian teams, such as the Maple Leafs Stanley Cup
win, sports seemed to reach a high point during the era, for both men and women. The entertainment

How Does Death Affect Poe s Life
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary , a quote from Edgar Allan Poe s The
Raven. Poe, while he was alive, wrote many lines similar to this in his stories, always expressing
strong and horridly bad emotions. People might wonder why he wrote so much about things like
death, alcoholism and poverty. It was once said that an author s mind affects their writing, and a prime
example of this is how poe s life affected his writing themes. The first detail of how Poe s life
influenced his writing is the element of death in his stories. Death of loved ones is painfully obvious in
Poe s poem, The Raven, in which he states sorrow, for the loss of lenore . Lenore is symbolizing Poe s
wife, Virginia. She was one of many of poe s loved ones who had died of a common ailment at the
time, Tuberculosis. This disease had claimed Poe s brother, foster mother, as well as his
wife, consequently, he gave it it s own story, The Mask Of The Red Death. In this story, all the
characters die of the fatal illness the red death (another name for TB) and darkness and decay and the
red death held illimitable dominion over all . As he had been in the shroud of death most of his life, he
wrote about wondering what happened after it in The Facts In The Case ... Show more content on

This is perhaps most clear his story The Black Cat, in which he states for disease is like alcohol Both
Poe and the nameless narrator are alcoholics. Nevertheless, more subtle example in Poe s Works is in
The Cask of Amontillado, In this a character named Fortunato is intoxicated for most of the story so
he can be (unfortunately) chained up and put in a wall. As alcohol had such an influence on his life,
Poe put in a small reference for why he started drinking in The Raven, the narrator in the story asking
for respite and nepenthe . Nepenthe was a painkiller, representing using drugs to block out pain, only
in real life, the drug he is using is

Negative Reinforcement Of Gender Roles In Children
When parents direct children away from toys that are associated with the opposite gender, they
reinforce the skewed perceptions and attitudes of the expected social norm. Children tend to assimilate
parents and caregivers messages concerning gender roles, therefore, by directing children towards
gender specific toys, the parents define the roles of societal gender expectations, thus contributing to
the negative reinforcement of the ideas of gender identity. In some instances this could be considered
damaging as the social learning theory claims; learning is a cognitive process that occurs through
observation or direct instruction. When desired behavior is rewarded, the child then learns the
relationship between their behavior and the consequence. Although this reinforces gender roles and
conditions gender specific behavior, it also gets in the way of expression by encouraging change (in
behavior) for the sake of others, or in general society. Children carry this message with them into their
teenage years. Gender divides are often developed through playtime and early socialization which
later develops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Aesthetic Qualities Of A Musical Selection From Space...
Introduction From a young age, I ve had a great interest in all sorts of music. I appreciate and enjoy
listening to classical, opera, rap, hip hop, country, contemporary and Mexican music. When I signed
up for Music Appreciation, I was excited to learn more about the history of music and the instruments
used. I wanted to learn what to listen for and how to understand the different types of music. There are
many styles of music from different eras. After taking notes on a variety of listening exercises from
different eras, I understand what composers were trying to accomplish with their music. I will discuss
an influential composer and his musical time period, along with events that helped shape his career. I
will also cover a musical period that I believe to be most important to music history. I would also like
to discuss how this course has influenced the way I listen and hear music. Lastly, I will analyze the
aesthetic qualities of a musical selection from Space Odyssey: 2001.

How To Describe A Day On A Rainy Day Essay
One cold wet afternoon in early November, the fog was so thick I felt a though I could reach out and
grab it. It had been bright sunshine when we walked into that forest. Or should I say when we were
chased into it. Earlier that morning it felt as though it would be just another ordinary Saturday. The
birds were singing, the tractors were ploughing, but little did I know that at that point, this was no
regular day for what was to come on the sunny day was very irregular indeed. Later on I decided to
ring ben and see if he wanted to go on a walk together in the countryside. After about ten minutes we
set of together through the fields and down the country lanes. All of a sudden ben stopped in the
middle of the road and asked me if I had seen the forest ahead of us before. Confused I said no and we
started up again and carried on with our walk. Out of nowhere a bull jumped out the hedgerow a
chased ben and I towards the forest walls. We ran in and hid behind some trees close so to the edge.
The bull seemed to know that we were there but didn t seem to want to go into the forest. Ben moved
his head signalling that we should find a way out of the forest I nodded and came out of where I was
hiding I turned and saw the bull staring at me but he didn t move I suddenly noticed that the fog
around us was growing thicker and I could no longer see ben in front of me. I shouted for him but no
reply. Suddenly I fell and heard a cry of which I thought sounded like ben I turned and

  • 2. Hinduism As A Family Of Beliefs Dissimilar to Christianity, Hinduism is portrayed as a family of beliefs. Hinduism unites the worship of many gods with a belief in a single divine reality (Molloy, 75). Hinduism can be compared to that of the Ganga Ma, a significant river in the Indian culture. Comparing it with the river saying that it flows and gains momentum. The Hindus have four very important life goals; kama or pleasure, artha or economic security, dharma or social and religious duty, and moksha or complete freedom. While Hinduism consist of more than one god, individuals tend to focus on a particular god. Three gods are particularly central in the life of Hinduism. The three gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, represent creation, preservation, and destruction. (Molloy, 75). Brahma is the god of creation. In today s world, he is the least worshipped god in India. There are only two temples in all of India dedicated to him (Brahma). Brahma has a unique look, with four heads and four arms. The second god, Vishnu, is the god of preservation. Thus far in creation, he has been said to be incarnated nine times. Worshippers believe that he will incarnate one last time near the end of the world. Similarly, to what Paul thought of Jesus, Like any major god, Vishnu is involved in a number of colorful stories which illustrate his virtues as the protector of cosmic order (Vishnu). Vishnu is uniquely depicted by having blue skin, and four arms. In his four hands, he holds objects representing what he is dependable for. Shiva, the last god, is the god of destruction. In Hinduism, destruction is considered necessary for new life forms to appear. Shiva is portrayed by his blue face and white body, three eyes, and four arms. Christianity and Hinduism each have their own form of practices and rituals. Christians have rituals that are called sacraments. There are seven sacraments throughout life that a Christian can devote themselves to. Baptism is the ritual cleansing with water, which is an ancient form of purification, which traditionally happens shortly after birth. Eucharist is the next sacrament which represents Lord s Supper. The Eucharist represents the body and blood of Jesus. Confirmation is the blessing of believers after baptism in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Changing A Company s Culture Changing a Company s Culture When it comes to corporate culture, there would be no better example than Apple Computer as how change can take place based on the leadership of a single individual. This would be no other than Steven Paul Jobs, better known to the world of Steve Jobs. Mr. Jobs was worth slightly over million dollars at the age of 23. By the time he was 24 years old he was worth just over $10 million and by the time he reached the age of 25 was worth well over $100 million dollars. A staggering difference in just a three year period (Denning, 2011). In the interview that was given to Robert Cringely in 1995 for a show that was going to air on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) entitled Triumph of the Nerds (Denning, 2011) Steve Jobs tells how he created the culture at Apple from being different than the status quo. He speaks at length about costs and how the accountants would never seem to see eye to eye with him when it came to cost. What Jobs found along the way was that is just the way things were always done in the past but other institutions and that was not going to be the case at Apple Computer. He knew he could do better and change the way people would think even when it came to the accounting department at Apple (Jobs, Cringely, Sen, 1995). At the time the interview was given Steve Jobs was no longer working for Apple even though he was its founder he had resigned from the company 10 years prior and many things have changed for the worse at Apple ... • 5. The Hidden Curriculum In Education Cheswin Roman 209188731 Hidden Curriculum essay This essay will explain what the Hidden Curriculum is and its implications on issues in the South African system. The essay will also reflect my understanding of the concept hidden curriculum. I will also explain the different levels in the educational system. The second section of the essay I will focus on what I have identified as the hidden curriculum during my teaching practice experience. In my conclusion I will address the hidden curriculum in order to redress the concern I have identified. The hidden curriculum is lessons that we as educators teach informally or unintentionally at school. Learners will learn unintended values, beliefs, behaviours and norms in the classroom and the social learning environment (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). They may learn how to interact with other learners for example debates and class discussions and group work. Hidden curriculum will initially begin at a young age for learners. In primary school they will be taught how to greet an educator and to say please and thank you (Department of Educational Studies, 2015). We can basically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During my classroom observations it was clear that parents are transferring a lot of the blame or responsibility to the schools and educators. Educators had to teach the learners to greet and respect other learners. The principal also made use of the hidden curriculum by telling educators to see that the learners are in class during periods and to speak to learners that are a problem. Another example that I saw during my teaching experience was that if learners got good grades and turn in their homework on time or even listen to the educator during the class they were rewarded. By doing this the educator taught the learners how to behave as well as to take pride in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Half Life Lab Report In this experiment we will explore the meaning of half life. We will accomplish this by getting a handful of un popped popcorn and cooking them in a pan. We will count how long it takes for half of the popcorn to pop. In this experiment un popped popcorn will resemble a radioactive nucleus whilst popped nuclei will resemble non radioactive nuclei. When the popcorn is popped it means that the nucleus is stable. In this experiment, we discovered that we cannot predict when half of the radioactive nuclei when disappear the first time over although when the first half life occurs we are able to calculate the half life in the future. Half life is the amount of time taken for half of the radioactive nuclei to disappear. In this experiment we decided to put 16 pieces of popcorn in a pot and then counted the seconds it took before they popped. The time it took for the number of un popped popcorn to half from 16 to 8 was 19 seconds. It then went from 8 to 4 in 13 seconds, 4 to 2 in 12 seconds and lastly 2 to 1 in 10 seconds. Drouin could slot in as the 2C behind a true 1C. He was winning more faceoffs, was more confident down the middle, and posted 13 points in his last 14 contests last season. In each of Rousseau s narratives, he completely disregards women. Throughout all of Rousseau s work, but Emile in particular, he emphasizes women as passive agents in the world. In Pacha Mama, Rousseau, and the Femini, Nalinia Persram, a contemporary philosopher, argues that women s superiority extends from the private sphere extends into the public sphere. The Time Succeeding Herbert Hoover s Presidency Evelyn Serrano Mrs. Mohan IB History of the Americas Period 10 13 December 2014 Essay Topic 2 Question A The time succeeding Herbert Hoover s presidency became a period of reconstruction. The Great Depression caused thorough damage through the entire nation. Citizen s trust stood nonexistent and their motives were vacant. Franklin Roosevelt came into office with upfront critical responsibilities. In order to save what was left of the United States, Roosevelt had to approach the detrimental economy with an open mind. He came up with many solutions, some received questionable appraisal from the people such as the New Deal. The New Deal served as an attempt to uplift the economy by assisting banks, creating jobs, and financing businesses. In Roosevelt s mind, government affiliation was vital. The policies sparked controversy among business owners as they argued it was unconstitutional and put capitalism at stake. The New Deal proves effective in saving capitalism by initiating a strong federal government to regulate the economy. After the collapse of the economy in 1929, banks were in crucial conditions. Citizen s trust faltered as Hoover preached to them empty promises about how things would get better. Franklin Roosevelt s mission with the New Deal was to recuperate all that was lost during Hoover s presidency. Within the New Deal was passed the Federal Emergency Banking Act. This act helped produce loans, credit and investment opportunities for the public. The production ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Why Mitochondria And The Cell With Versatile Operating... Abstract: Although mitochondria and chloroplasts encodes handful of their own proteins, however, majority of their required proteins have to be synthesized in the cytosol and translocated into their correct destinations using specialized transporting networks: TOM/TIM complexes in mitochondria and TOC/TIC complexes in chloroplasts. Molecular chaperones play critical roles in facilitating functional competent protein import from the cytosol to their correct destinations, utilizing catalytic motor components and other transporting channels. Biogenesis of both mitochondria and chloroplasts and their maintenances in terms of transcription, translation and protein import into their various numerous compartments requires very tight coordination to overcome energetic barriers, protein aggregation and protein degradation. This essay describes molecular chaperones involvement in protein import from the cytosol into these double membraned organelle compartments. Introduction: Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell with versatile operating systems (i.e. converts energy derived from foods into cellular energy e.g. ATP, Amino Acid and lipid metabolisms, iron sulphur clusters and haem biosynthesis, and also the regulation of apoptosis) (Harbauer et al., 2014, Bolender et al., 2008, Wiedemann et al., 2004). Equally, chloroplasts are also very versatile and operates several metabolic and cellular processes (i.e. photosynthesis, amino acid and lipid metabolism, cellular signalling and ... • 15. How Does Atwood Use Language In The Handmaids Tale How does Atwood presents the importance of language in The Handmaid s Tale? Throughout the novel, we see evidence of indoctrination in all of the characters. This indoctrination process appears to be primarily carried out by Gilead s manipulation of language among its residents. Language is a powerful tool in shaping our thoughts and how we behave; the control and exploitation of discourse in the regime shows us not only this, but also how language can provide power as well as take it away. Gilead s government relies heavily on language from the bible to help maintain its theocratic dictatorship. It does this by taking religious quotes such as Give me children or else I die out of context and bending the meaning to impose their ideologies. A quote that is made to be taken quite literally in Gilead as the women are told it is their sole purpose to reproduce and if they do not they are an unwoman a disturbing term which implies that in the eyes of Gilead, unless the women meet its ideology, they are useless and their humanity is taken away from them. ... Hegemony, a term coined by philosopher Antonio Gramsci; is defined as consent that is given by a civil society (Carroll Greeno: 122). Through both articles, hegemony is seen as playing an important role in benefiting the ruling class or the capitalists. It consists of a specific set of ideas which produce an subconscious consensus among the population of which they struggle to deviate from, due to the consequences which may arise if they choose to go against policies which support the economic good of the neoliberal/capitalist system. Ancient Greece is a very popular theme of study covered in many disciplines such as philosophy, science, history and anthropology amongst others. The reason for this, I believe, is primarily due to its complex social structure in ancient time and a strong sense of culture and Hellenistic pride as portrayed in their art, literature and architecture. The American culture of the 1960s began to alter with the hippie generation, and the same old drab writing was not fulfilling the desires of the American reader. During the 1970s, American literature and journalism transformed in a way that no one would have ever been able to predict. Thompson found a way to turn the tables, and effected generations to come in a new dynamic writing style that many authors and journalist nowadays adopt. The life and writing of Hunter S. Copyright is an intangible property right granted by federal statue to the author or originator of certain literacy or outside productions. The first major change was the Copyright Act of 1976, it gave American authors the right to print, re print, or publish their work for 14 years and then to renew for another 14. In 1998, Congress passed the Sonny Bono Copyright Act also known as the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, which extended protection from life of the author plus 70 years as well as taking away the need for a copyright notice and registration. The result was that many whom did not have copyright protection due to lack of copyright notice and registration were now protected. Following the Mickey Mouse Copyright Act, they passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which intended to create a new updated version of copyright laws to deal with the challenges of regulating digital material. It aimed to protect the rights of both copyright owners and consumers, and without it copyright owners would have a difficult time obtaining legal action against those who copy copyrighted material. (SELL4, Cengage Learning, 82) Communication skills, to me, is the main topic within the Service Sector Management class. The reason I believe this is because in order to build trust, sale, understand the buyer, etc. you must be able to talk to the customers. Trust based sales communication is when you must talk with the customer rather than at them. It is a collaborative and two way form of communication that allows buyers and sellers to better understand the need of situations and working together to create the best responses for resolving the customer s needs. Trust based communication is the sharing of importance between buying and selling individuals that result from the interactive process of exchanging information and ideas. The controversy pertained to management contracts of six major United States ports. The purchaser was DP World, a state owned company in the U.A.E. The US public concerns did not have big influence on a business decision made by a Dubai company. More influence had the political pressure. However, public concern also played its role in this case. For example, people s opinion was that foreign states, especially those related to terrorism in the past, could not be trusted with strategic American assets. Also, they thought that foreign countries should not have managerial responsibilities over ports due to divided loyalties and concerns over national independence. Accordingly, all these public opinions were reflected and expressed by the politicians whose pressure constrained Dubai Company to withdraw.
