Hostesses Unafraid Rhetorical Analysis
HOSTESSES UNAFRAID! Text 1
The advert Hostesses unafraid published in the TIME magazine, is filled with figurative language. The
advert about Campbell s Tomato Soup persuades the customers throughout the advert to make a
purchase of it. It uses a hostess to get its message across and has pictures of the soup to further clarify
to the readers the product Campbell is selling.
The very fact that this article is written in layman language makes it very relatable and interesting to
read. The title itself is written in bold, capital letters to catch the attention of the reader. The
exclamation makes it seem like an announcement rather than a title, engaging customers into the
advert. The whole text, especially the first paragraph has a rather ... Show more content on

The slogan Double rich! Double strength! uses repetition as the word double is used twice, this puts
emphasis on quality and the outcome of having the soup, which promises the reader to be healthier
and more energy filled compared to having other soups. The bold letters of the slogan are eye catching
and the exclamations indicate the slogan as an important declaration, making it memorable. The
author creates a feeling of trust as the compares Campbell s quality of soup with your home kitchen .
This makes the situation more relatable and trustworthy as the feeling of nostalgia is again introduced.
The promise of the soup being better than the one made at home leaves the reader surprised and
persuaded to buy the soup since they re given a quality assurance. The tone becomes instructional
towards the end as the advert directs the customers to follow a fixed recipe. It s then changed to a
satiric tone as the advert jokes about paying no extra money for doubling the quantity by simply
adding water. This however, creates a contrast because throughout the advert the soup is pictured as
something divine to indulge in but, the phrase at no extra cost breaks such an image of the

Essay on Advertising Fast Food to Children Under The Age...
How much do the fast food companies spend for advertising to children in the United States? In 2009,
The Fast food companies spent over $ 4.2 billion in the fast food industry alone to market on
television, the internet, social media sites, etc (Brownell, 2009). This amount of money demonstrated
that advertising to children is big business for companies, but it affects children directly, who are
innocent of future generations. The purpose of this essay is to convince legislators to consider banning
the advertising of fast food to children under the age of 12 in children s programming. First, I will
briefly describe the definition of fast food and the negative effects of advertising fast food to children
under the age of 12. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The television advertising targeted at children is harmful. The Journal of the American Medical
Association has said children between ages of two and seventeen watch an annual average of 15,000
to 18,000 hours of television, compared with 12,000 hours spent per year in school (Beacon Press,
2000). This indicates that children watch television for too many hours, so the advertising companies
target children to increase the number of people, watching their programs. We can see from the above
that the fast food industry spends a lot of money to just advertise to children increase their profit. Also,
based on the research of the Food Advertising to Children and Teen Scores, show that the average
preschooler between the ages 2 to 5 see almost three fast food advertisements every day. The children
between the ages 6 to 11 see three and a half advertisements for each day, and teenagers see almost
five advertisements for every day (Yale University s Rudd Center, 2009). In other words, average
children ages 2 to 11 see fast food advertisements approximately 3 times for each day. If children
watch advertisements from television every day, within one year children will have watched fast food
advertisements approximately 2,000 times a year. This is a very serious amount that should cause
concern with our young children.

Tyranny In Ancient Greece
Monarchies, aristocracies, tyrannies, oligarchies, and democracies existed throughout the human
history. What about ancient Greece? Were tyrannies or democracies more prevalent? When and where
exactly? Let s take a look.
Tyranny is the rule by one powerful dictator, called tyrant. Tyrant is defined as a ruler who has seized
power without legal right. Where tyrants appeared? In fact, many states, in the 6th century BC
particularly, were ruled by a tyrant, including Pisistratus in Athens.
A tyrant takes power by force. He is usually from a noble family but often had the support of poor
people. In a Tyranny power is not inherited, unlike a monarchy. Unlike the meaning of tyranny in
modern day, it was not always an oppressive and brutal rule. For example, Pisistratus rule in Athens.
According to the British Museum tyrannies first appeared in Argos or Corinth, then Sicyon, Megara,
Mytilene and Miletus. Sparta avoided tyranny, probably to strengthen the unity of citizens against
helots. Pisistratus became tyrant in Athens 3 times, starting around 560 BC. Under the Kypselidai
tyranny, the city of Corinth became known for pottery production and export, art and trade.
Oligarchy is defined as the rule by the few. It became common throughout ancient ... Show more

Common Law Summary And Analysis
Common Law claims are mostly determined by tort laws. Employees wishing to sue their employer
for workplace privacy may rely on privacy tort theories. Privacy tort is separated into four branches of
action: 1) Intrusion upon seclusion or solitude, or into private affairs, 2) public disclosure of
embarrassing private facts, 3) publicity which places a person in a false light in the public eye and 4)
appropriation of name or likeness. Intrusion of privacy tort is often used in many court cases between
employers and employees in the workplace ( Fazekas,2015).

Canadian Cattle Identification Program Essay
The Canadian Cattle Identification Program exists to track beef cattle from birth to slaughter. This way
cattle can be tracked through an approved radio frequency tag in the case of a serious outbreak of
disease. Having beef cattle that are trackable through ear tags ensures that beef will be of high quality,
and the number of beef cattle are regulated. The cattle identification program radio tags were
implanted due to an outbreak of mad cow disease in 2001, the radio tags operate as a way to track
back to a source of a disease outbreak; therefore, beef can ensured to be of high quality by managing
disease issues in beef cattle. The Canadian Cattle Identification Program for beef cattle was originally
implemented due to the mad cow crisis in 2001. These tags gave the industry a way to track diseases
back to their source. Even though the program began in 2001 it was not fully enforced with penalty for
not complying until July 2002 (1). Tags are to be applied to the calf/steer before leaving the ... Show

lifespan, which are kept in a database (2). Each time a steer has a procedure by the farmer, or a

Having a database allows the inspection agency to obtain history if needed after the cow has been
slaughter, and if that steer is relocated in its life time then then it should be tagged before leaving its
original farm. The new farmer may need to retag cow for their farm because it may have lost its

The Epic Of Beowulf By William Beowulf
The book Beowulf is a story of a man named Beowulf, who comes from the land of the Geats, who is
continuously put to the test having to fight in battles, in which in his last battle he Beowulf finds
death. After reading Beowulf I have concluded that this book is meant to glorify the men who have
fought and succeeded in violent battles. Those men hold a legacy and power in which there name is
known throughout. Those same men have children or sons and their sons continue to hold that legacy
with them and make one of their own, if they do not then they no longer have power and fame and
become unknown. Therefore in order to hold a legacy, have power, and become known, one must fight
in brutal wars and must win in those wars, and one main person that fulfilled this duty was Beowulf.
As the story begins it introduces a warrior, King Shield Sheafson, scourge of many tribes, a wrecker of
mead benches, rampaging amoung foes (3). Although he did not have a father he, flourished later on
as his powers waxed and his worth was proved (3), he was known as one good king. It is he who
became the founding father that started a legacy for the land of the Danes. King Shield had a famous
son named Beow, who was then passed the throne after his father s death. Beow was known through
the North and was well regarded and ruled the Danes for a long time (7). He fathered four children,
Heorogar, Hrothgar, Halga, and a daughter. Hrothgar is the only son that became known. Herorogar,

Irony And Mood In The Gift Of The Magi
Symbolism Irony and mood in The Gift of Magi In the short story The Gift of The Magi by O. Henry
uses irony mood and symbolism to greatly impact the experience of the story about Jim and Della. It s
Christmas time and both Della and Jim sacrifice their meaningful valuables to get one another
something for Christmas. Jim sells his watch that was passed down from his loved ones. Della cuts off
her hair that she has been growing for a very long time and sells it to buy Jim something. O. Henry
incorporates mood and tone to set the theme of love and sacrifice by using literary devices such a
irony and symbolism to make an even greater impact. The definition of irony is a kind of device which
is used in literature to increase the values of the work, consists of saying one thing while you mean
another.(English Lit...2). O. Henry puts together two different types of irony. He uses situational and
dramatic irony in the story of The gift of Magi . Jim s pocket watch. 0.Henry tells readers Jim would
have displayed his watch to Kings to cause envy. Della s abundant hair, we are informed, would
outshine the Queen jewels and gifts. Della knew her hair was more beautiful than any queen s jewels
and gifts. If a king lived in the same house, with all his riches, Jim would have looked at his watch

The And The Nazi Occupation Of Kiev During The World War...
Throughout the twentieth century, the city of Kiev was occupied by various governments, notably the
Soviet and the Nazi regimes, during the Second World War. The German army successfully conquered
Kiev on September 21st, 1941, after Soviet forces withdrew. Immediately upon German occupation,
the planning for eliminating the Jewish population from Kiev began, and was shortly after conducted
at the Massacre of Babi Yar, where it has been estimated that any number between 33,771 to 150,000
Jews were murdered. Despite Babi Yar s involvement in the Holocaust, the events which occurred at
Babi Yar were relatively neglected in the studies about the Holocaust. The novel Babi Yar: A
Document in the Form of a Novel (1970) by A. Antoli (Kuznetsov) has acted as one of few resources
which has addressed the massacre of Jews at Babi Yar, as well as the horrific Nazi occupation of Kiev
during the Second World War. Kuznetsov was twelve years old upon the Nazi occupation of Kiev and
recorded his experience, as well as the experiences of others who survived. The novel has brought
light to the oppressive and barbaric nature of the Nazi rule of Kiev which lasted for 778 days.
Furthermore, the uncensored version has disclosed how the people living within Kiev acted during the
period of Nazi occupation. Prior to this release, Soviet rule had not allowed for any release of
information disclosing the massacre of Jews within Kiev during the Second World War. However, due

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Plea Bargaining
Plea bargaining is important in the criminal justice system. It is an essential tool that benefits not only
the prosecutor but the defense attorney and the defendant. Plea bargaining allows attorneys to decide
cases without needing the judge or a jury to decide the case. It can be beneficial to both the prosecutor
and the defense attorney because the prosecutor will have a conviction and the defense attorney would
have gained a lesser charge for his client. Throughout this paper I will lead you through the process of
plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crime control and the due process model.
Plea Bargaining
What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement between a
prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one
of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the
defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the
defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. Both of the
pleas are similar, the only difference is the nolo contendere plea cannot be used as admission of guilt
in a civil case (Siegel, Schmalleger, Worrall, Chapter 12, 2011). ... Show more content on

King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities
While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter
King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the
legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of any
King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things that
Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some
similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the
similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with,
the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. In The Acts of
King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the novel goes in depth into
how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. In The Winter King, Arthur is not ... Show

The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir Essay
The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir
In the chapter of her book The Second Sex entitled the Woman in Love, Simone de Beauvoir
characterizes the romantic ideal of the relationship with a man as a woman s purpose as a form of self
deception (translated here as bad faith ). The self deception de Beauvoir describes is based in the
thesis of The Second Sex. This is the idea that women have been deceived into believing that they are
second class humans. Western culture, according to de Beauvoir, teaches us that women are missing
some elusive element of the self that endows men with freedom a concept essential to the existentialist
definition of the conscious being. Therefore, a woman can never find fulfillment as a thinking person

653. This is the same mindset that Sartre applies to the anti Semite the refusal to consider the
complexity of the world in favor of a system that provides easy answers to all life s questions. Only,
unlike the anti Semite, the woman is turning her hatred inward; does she hate herself because she fears
freedom or because she feels she is not worthy of it? De Beauvoir seems to believe that fear is the
primary cause for this willing dependency. She cites the psychoanalytic view that women s obsession
with love does not comes from a desire for men at all, but from a desire to return to the secure
dependency of childhood. This explains the lifelong refuge some women take in infantile ( cute )
behavior and appearance, but psychoanalytic explanations for human behavior have proven to be far
less than perfect, and a woman s self worth (or, in this case, lack thereof) has far more complex roots
than a Freudian theorem.
What is sure is that the female ideal of love assumes a place of greater importance in the psyche than
the libido alone. The quest for absolute communion with the beloved assumes a mystical element that
is similar in many ways to religious devotion, as de Beauvoir explains. (The lack of belief in God
makes this attitude even more contemptible from an existentialist point of view.) The religious woman
and the romantic woman cope with their self loathing in the same way: in both

America has the ability to make difference in people lives. As said before, people came to the United
States to seeks better lives and more opportunities. I believe the American Dream also means being
equally treated. Equal does not mean we are all the same. We are all different, which is what makes
American the way it is today. We are all human and deserve to be treated as such with dignity and
respect. Although America has a hard time showing that we are all equal, I still believe it is a part of
the American Dream. The United States have run into many brick walls trying to make it seem like all
of us are equal, but it has not been a complete success. Many problems with race and gender is still

Increase of Unemployment in the United Kingdom
A political issue that the United Kingdom is currently facing is the increase of unemployment which is
positively helping the economy, as a result. The number of citizens not working in the UK decreased
by 63,000 to 2.33 million in only three months to January 2014, according to official figures. (BBC)
This is clearly a significant current event in UK at the moment because 7.2% of their population is
without a job. The unemployment rate in Scotland fell to 6.9%, in Wales it was 6.7% while in
Northern Ireland it was 7.5%. (BBC) Interestingly, I found that the Prime Minister David Cameron
tweeted: Another significant fall in unemployment is a sign our long term economic plan is working,
providing security and chances for hard working people. (BBC) In other words, the rising rate of
unemployment is not necessarily a clear indicator of a shattered economy. A large portion of the
unemployed are self employed businessmen or entrepreneurs working on their own ventures and have
found new ways of producing a steady income within the British economy. Ultimately, the economic
history and politics of this nation have been originated by Parliament and are the primary cause for the
rapid growth in the business market right now.

nations are England, Wales, and Scotland. By the nineteenth century, there was speedy economic

Child Labor And The Combination Act Of 1799
In the year 1760, the Enclosure Acts, which allowed landlords to enclose common land, forced many
farmers out of work, thus making them and their relatives to work in the early factories and coal
mines. The influx of workers combined with the first steam engines and the economic concepts of
industrial capitalism allowed for factories to have cheap, efficient, and easily replaceable manual
labor. This encouraged the factory owners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could
not afford to lose their jobs. However, when workers began to form unions in order to stop this cruelty,
the English government enacted the Combination Acts in 1799 which forbid workers from creating
trade unions in opposition of the harsh conditions. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, they ignore the fact that many of these accounts were most likely biased or written during
the reform period, in which the conditions at the factories had begun to improve significantly. The pre
reform era, on the other hand, was when the factories were able to abuse and ignore their workers due
to lack of regulation. In fact, the Combination Acts specifically forced the workers to endure whatever
conditions they faced, encouraging the factory owners to mistreat the workers even more. In his
account of his inspection of a textile mill, Dr. Ward stated that Cotton factories are highly
unfavourable, both to the health and morals of those employed in them and that The number of
children who had received injuries from the machinery amounted to very nearly one half . These
statements from a third party unbiased source represent not only how dangerous and unhealthy the
factories were for the workers, but also how detrimental the lack of regulation

Types of Contract
1. Voidable Contract: An agreement which is enforceable by law at the option of one or more of the
parties thereto, but not at the option of the other or others, is a voidable contract. A contract is voidable
when one of the parties to the contract has not exercised his free consent. One of the essential
elements of a formation of a contract for example, free consent, is absent. All voidable contracts are
those which are induced by coercion fraud or misrepresentation. The person whose consent is not
freely given may avoid a contract. It therefore continues to be valid till the party whose consent is
caused by coercion, undue influence, fraud or misrepresentation choose to avoid the contract within a

mutual obligations. The remedy at law for breach of contract is damages or monetary compensation.
In equity, the remedy can be specific performance of the contract or an injunction. Both remedies
award the damaged party the benefit of the bargain or expectation damages, which are greater than
mere reliance damages, as in promissory estoppel. |Contents | |

The Playboy Of The Western World Critique
The Playboy of the Western World Critique I was overall extremely impressed with the University of
Houston s production of The Playboy of The Western World. The play and the intention of comedy
were both carried out very well by the actors. I felt that I was engaged in the play, seeming like I was
actually a part of the performance. The theatre department s attempt on this play was very worthwhile,
providing both a good laugh and a superb form of entertainment. The predominant theme of this play
was the chaotic father/son relationship. The message the play is trying to give is that children can go
against their fathers, rioting against them and disobeying their orders and expectations, and how a
stereotypical message of disobedience is sent. In the worst of cases, the father becomes nearly
powerless, unable to act or alter the situation in anyway. I do agree with the message that sometimes
children can have control over their parents, and how sometimes there is nothing that can be done
about it. In the play, it was exactly like that when Christy tried to kill his father three times without
ever obeying a single one of his commands and even getting in a face to face fight with him. I have
also witnessed this situation in other TV shows and novels. I found that message to be extremely
disturbing for me in The Playboy of the Western World. The idea of a son killing his father was a
terrible idea for my brain to comprehend during the course of the play. However, I must say

The Fall of the Soviet Union
The fall of the Soviet Union Before one can understand the fall of the Soviet Union, he has to know
how the nation came into being and the leaders, and the location of the country and the time period of
its reign. How did the Soviet Union come into existence? Through the 1900 s the Soviet Union was
entangled in a vast number of conflicts all because they wanted to spread communism. Subsequently,
the rampant spread of communism and Soviet ideals had an impact in the First World War, Second
World and Cold War. Under the authoritarian control of Russian leaders the budget for the military and

Gorbachev that the utilization of strategic weapons be terminated. As a result, they met again in 1986

complemented the plan, he complained because it would require a voluminous amount of money and
it would be a failure. Gorbachev wanted to get the USSR back on its foot and he formulated reform

importantly, Gorbachev and President Reagan signed a treaty banning terrestrial missiles in Europe

Impact Of Natural Resources On Economic Growth
QUESTION 9
Natural resource and its effect on economic growth and dynamics of conflicts.
1.0 Introduction
Natural resources are raw materials extracted from the earth. They are useful in many different ways
for its diversified opportunity of benefit and profit for economic development. Examples of natural
resources are mineral, oil, waterways, land, timber, diamonds, coals, coltan and genetic. Majority of
developing countries, distributions of natural resources vary from one geographic location to another.
The variability of location has caused greed and grievances in economic development. This was
attributed to more risk of conflict, weak governance, and poor economic performance.
2.0 Effect of natural resources on economic growth.
According to Collier and Hoeffer (2003), there are three major factors that depend on the primary
commodity exports such as income per capita, rate of economic growth, and structure of the economy,
the higher the rate of primary commodities exports the higher the level of risk of conflict. Developing
countries that are dependent on natural resources are more liable to terms of trade shocks, which leads
to instability and dissatisfaction within the groups that suffer the shocks. Since natural resources are
wealth and unevenly distributed causes the rebel groups ventures in various forms of extortion,
exploitation, and trade of primary commodity. The best known types of conflict are the diamond of

Deforestation In Japanese Essay
Japan as a whole is a disaster prone country, mostly due to its position on the Pacific Rim fault line,
but also because of climatic and seismic factors. However, for the purpose of this assignment I will be
focusing specifically on the region of Tokyo Yokohama. Yokohama is a city of 3.7 million located on
the western coast of Tokyo Bay, roughly 17 miles south of Tokyo. Yokohama is the second largest city
in Japan, beaten out only by Tokyo. The combined population of Tokyo and Yokohama Metropolitan
Area is 16,889,000 so roughly 17,000,000 people are living in 1,013 square miles, making for
extremely densely populated conditions. (These households and population data are based on the

Tokyo is on the ocean side of the island, making the city incredibly susceptible. Typhoons can cause
flooding and landslides, which can be extremely dangerous to people and cause destruction such as
collapsed buildings and fallen trees. The volcanoes belong to the Pacific Ring of Fire, caused by
subduction zones of the Pacific plate beneath continental and other oceanic plates along its margins.
Japan lies in a zone of extreme crustal instability. Mount Fuji poses the biggest threat the Tokyo.
Located only 60 miles from Tokyo, this stratovolcano is very much active and could cause mass
hysteria for many people when it next erupts. A volcanic eruption can pour ash and lava all over the
city. Over the years, Japan has taken lots of steps to lighten the damage future earthquakes could
inflict. Scientists are studying ways to predict the occurrence of quakes more accurately. Authorities
have put strict laws on the construction buildings so they are more resistant to quakes. Many local
governments have adopted an earthquake prevention plan that outlines the steps that should be taken
in case a major earthquake strikes, including the regulation of traffic, closing of banks and department
stores, and evacuation of residents. The Tokyo metropolitan government conducts periodic checks on
the safety of buildings in designated danger zones. At schools and workplaces, evacuation drills are
held several times a year.

Hollywood s Asians Essay
Hollywood s Asians
Asian Americans have been part of America for almost as long as its existence. From the Chinese
laborers building the transcontinental railway, inner cities laundry services, to Asian farmers who have
helped build the agriculture communities around the country, Asian American have contributed to the
industries and economy of America. Despite their loyalty and contributions to this country, Asian
Americans have been discriminated and considered as unassimilable by many Americans. Racism
toward Asian is further extended by Hollywood s use of yellow face, where Caucasian actors applied
make up and prosthetics to pose as Asians, stereotypes such yellow peril and orientalism. (Garcia, 13)

As the popularity of Fu Manchu increased, Hollywood was quick to take advantage and portray this
character as a threat to white supremacy.
According to Eugene Franklin Wong s The Early Years: Asians in the American Films Prior to World
War II, Rohmer, the creator of Fu Manchu stated I MADE MY MANE ON FU MANCHU BECAUSE
I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT the Chinese... I know something about Chinatown. But that is a
different matter. (Wong, 57) This presented a problem as the whole perception of Dr. Fu Manchu was
based on generalization and ignorance. Unfortunately, ignorance of Asian culture became the root of
Asian characters in motion pictures. The ambiguity and general facelessness of Asian characters and
communities lead to the creation of a low budget film called Chan is Missing (1981) by Wayne Wang.
As two amateur detective cab drivers search the San Francisco s Chinatown for the mysterious Chan,
but never do find him or even reach any conclusion about why he is missing. (Marchetti, 53)

On the other hand, Hollywood s depictions of different ethnic Asian are not always negative or evoke
racism. As the news Japan s military growth and reaches the shores of America, characters such as Fu

Coercive Control Summary
A Review of Evan Stark s Coercive Control Doctor Evan Stark began writing his book Coercive
Control: How Men Entrap Women in Personal Life in 1995. Unquestionably so, completing this book
was an extensive undertaking. His entrenchment and immersion in the field of domestic violence
relating to social work, legal/policy and research, spans far greater than the twelve years it took him to
complete this book in 2007. Stark draws from, and acknowledges, colleagues as well friendships that
have provided him with the knowledge base necessary to complete such an exhaustive work. Dr. Stark

Stark explains that where women are already subordinate, wife beating is supported by the patriarchy
and is a function of specific factors. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women
that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization
widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour
(men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political
and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced
increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and
emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce
dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for
patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual
hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of
force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive
control. Each household governed by coercive control, each relationship, becomes patriarchy in
miniature (p. 194). Stark concludes this section by

Compare / Contrast the evolution of Aquatic Organism to Terrestrial Organism. what did fish evolve
from? What were the different stages of their evolution?
What makes an animal aquatic is if it is a vertebrate or an invertebrate. They live in water for the
MAJORITY of their life, it could breathe air or extract oxygen through its habitat in the water through
their special adaptations such as gills or through its skin. A Terrestrial Organism is basically the total
opposite, these are your animals that live on land, from your friendly pets to the slug snails living in
the backyard.
Important characteristics of terrestrial organism s environment would be to have DRY land in

The Theme Of Love In Lin Manuel Miranda s Its Quiet Uptown
The theme of grief, especially in the context of losing a loved one is always a deep and emotional
topic to write about. Many writers have attempted to find the words to express how the family of a lost
loved one feels in the aftermath of such a terrible tragedy, but often they fail to fully grasp the emotion
in their writing. Lin Manuel Miranda is not one of these writers. In his song, It s Quiet Uptown, from
Hamilton, he beautifully portrays what its like trying to continue after losing someone one has never
imagined having to let go. The song describes the life of Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza
attempting to cope with the death of their eldest son, Philip. The beautiful language of the song and
the vivid imagery in the lyrics clearly convey the emotions one feels after the sudden loss of a loved
one and what it s like to watch people go through such a terrible time. The beautiful music and the
emotion with which it is preformed provide an excellent medium through which to convey this
message. The depth of Hamilton s grief is wonderfully portrayed in this piece of art. The first instance
of this imagery is in the first lines. Angelica sings, There are moments that the words don t reach,
There is suffering to terrible to name, You hold your child as tight as you can, And push away the
unimaginable. These lines paint the perfect picture of what it is like to watch a loved one die,
especially a child. As one sits there, watching as someone they love takes their

How Did Geography Affect Ancient China
In ancient times, the geography of ancient river valleys affected the growth and success of a
civilization. Ancient Sumer and Ancient China were strongly changed by the geographic features they
had around them. Many river valleys during this time, including Ancient China and Ancient Sumer,
developed around rivers. These rivers gave the civilizations fertile soil, which lead to a surplus in
food, for farming foods and crops was the most common way to grow food for families. Rivers also
gave people water and other resources that were necessary for living during this time. Sumer

Tale Of Two Cities Hate
Two of the most common literary motifs are love and hate. In Charles Dickens s novel A Tale of Two
Cities there is a constant battle between love and hate. Love is representative in friendship and family.
Hate is representative in revenge of the aristocracy. Lucie s love is very evident for her friends and
family, but her friends and family s have been just as evident. Dickens shows that love overcomes
hate, but with consequences when Darnay gives up his family name for the good of France but is still
sentenced to death, when Miss Pross loses her hearing as result of defending the hypothetical life of
Lucie Manette, and when Carton gives up his life for Lucie s happiness. Darnay s family consists of
some of the most awful people in France. His uncle, The Marquis, symbolizes a Gorgon (114). But
regardless of his family s standing in society and all their money Darnay disowned his family by
abandon[ing] (120) his family name for the common good of his country, France. Even though Darnay

Annie Sullivan Philosophy
A teacher s role in the class room and values reflected modeling Anne Sullivan
3843
Rivier College
Abstract
Anne Sullivan became a teacher after facing learning difficulties, she was sent to the Perkins School
for the blind, after finding out as a child she was forming blindness at the age of four. Anne was top of
her class and was taught by the best teachers at that school. With their strict and disciplined way of
teaching in the classroom she wanted to take that style and use it to help others. One of her students
was a child born deaf and blind; Helen Keller s family had a struggle finding answers, until they

determined and independent Helen was and had nothing but high hopes for her, with Sullivan s help
she knew with her right teaching Helen would be nothing but successful. In the movie the Miracle
Worker, when she was able to have Helen in an environment where she was capable of learning; she
proceeded to start by teaching her the alphabet. By taking Helen s hand and forcing her to feel her
fingers making letter then associating it with the object. Annie s first act was to thrust a doll into the
hands of her pupil. When I had played with it a little while, recalled Helen Keller years later, Miss
Sullivan slowly spelled into my hand the word d o l l. I was at once interested in this finger play ... I
did not know [for several weeks] that I was spelling a word or even that words existed. (Review.
(1957). Time, 69(7), 42.) This got her to begin understanding what Anne was doing, that being a good
example of John Dewey s theory that concepts are reflective thought and action. Both Anne and John s
theories of teaching and learning are very similar; to every teacher their methods are famous

Essay on The Shawnee Tribe in Central Pennsylvania
The Shawnee Tribe in Central Pennsylvania
His name is Wautheeweela. It means Bright Horn, referring to horns on a deer. He is ten years old, and
ready to make his journey to prove his manhood. He and other boys from his Shawnee tribe have been
physically toughened and taught to be independent since an age of around six. In winters, they have
had to break the ice to jump into the freezing river to continue their daily routine of learning to survive
with Nature and its elements. Now will be his test of endurance. He is sent into the woods with a bow
and arrow and told not to come back until he had shot something to eat. His face is blackened with
charcoal, a sign to all who saw him that he is on his quest and cannot be helped. He would ... Show

The large buck comes out from behind a tree and shows itself. He pulls back his arrow. This is the
moment of truth for this young boy, a part of growing up in the Shawnee culture in central
Pennsylvania.
Central Pennsylvania was never known as to have been the permanent settlement for any large group
of Native Americans. It was more of a stop for traveling tribes or a place of refuge. The Cherokees
once passed through here in the early 17th century (Wallace, 1970). The Susquehannock Indians were
an Iroquois Indian tribe that settled the Susquehanna watershed before they migrated to Maryland,
near the Chesapeake Bay (Cadzow, 1936). The tribe that stayed the longest and had the most influence
on Central Pennsylvania was the Shawnee. The Shawnees were an Algonkian people whose original
home was most likely the Cumberland River in Tennessee. This southern position gave them the name
Shawnee, meaning southerners in the Algonkian language. The Shawnees split up often and moved
around a lot, they are noted to have lived in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and
Pennsylvania. Their first known appearance in Pennsylvania in great numbers was in 1697 (Harvey,
1855). The tribe had five main groups: Chillicothe, Kispokotha, Pique, Sawekela, and the Makostrake
(Johnson, 1937). These became so intermixed that they are now indistinguishable. The reasons for
these groups were mainly for political and ritual purposes and did not affect

Analysis Of The 57 Bus By Dashka Slater
Imagine yourself sleeping on a bus to wake up engulfed in flames and seeing people laughing at you
burning up. The book The 57 Bus by Dashka Slater talks about a real incident that occurred in
Oakland, California. The person that was set on fire on a bus was an 18 year old agender person
named Sasha Fleischman. Agender means that the person doesn t identify as male nor female and use
the pronouns they, them, their. They were set on fire by an 16 year old African American male named

When describing Oakland, Slater also explains how the wealthier you are the more benefits you have.
In the book it states, Gravity works backward here the money flows uphill. The wealthier
neighborhoods is in the hills boast good schools, low crime, and the views of the bay. (Slater, pg 7)
With this quote, Slater is pointing out that Sasha as a person in middle class was affected in a positive
way. They could go to better schools, live in a place where there was less crime. It would cause a
negative effect on others in the working class as they didn t have the same opportunities as people in
the middle class. The book also describes how being at a private school helped in Sasha being
accepted. In the book it states, People were nice to each other at Maybeck, accepting. But the school
still had social groupings. (Slater, pg 18) This quote is saying that class affected Sasha in a positive
way because in high school was accepting. If they were in the middle class it would have been
different since they wouldn t have been able to go to a small private school. Class did affect Sasha in a
negative way due to having better opportunities and benefits which affected how they were

General Environment Analysis of the Airline Industry
The U.S. airline industry has been in a chaotic state for a number of years. In 1993, a U.S. government
report indicated that the industry had Lost huge amounts of money in the past three years, and it has
never made a sustained, substantial return on investment... According to the Air Transport Association,
the airline industry trade association, the loss from 1990 through 1994 was about $13 billion, while
from 1995 through 2000, the airlines earned about $23 billion and then lost about $35 billion from
2001 through 2005. Early in 2006 the association expected about a $10 billion loss in 2005.
In 1903, the Wright brothers first successful flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina marked the
beginning of the aviation industry. In the early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through these agreements, airlines can share facilities and operational costs (e.g., maintenance
facilities, sales offices) and negotiate volume discounts on large purchases. Passengers benefit from
lower prices (due to lower expenses) as well as optimized routes and pooled loyalty rewards,
especially in regards to international travel. Since the deregulation of the airline industry began, airline
ownership has been limited to companies and individuals of the operating country. Consolidation is
beneficial in two ways for airline companies, as it typically reduces redundant operating costs and
raises revenues through higher fares.
The airline industry can be separated into four categories by the U.S. Department of Transportation:
International
130+ seat planes that have the ability to take passengers just about anywhere in the world. Companies
in this category typically have annual revenue of $1 billion or more.
National
Usually these airlines seat 100 150 people and have revenues between $100 million and $1 billion.
Regional
Companies with revenues less than $100 million that focus on short haul flights.
Cargo
These are airlines generally transport goods.

readers through her experience dealing with manic depression. Kay was happy and well rounded
during her childhood. She developed interest for poetry, school plays, science, and medicine, and was
strongly encouraged by her parents. She was surrounded with good friends, a close knit family, and

When treating a physical illness, the cause is typically identifiable and standard procedure requires
evaluating the origin, level of severity, and treatment options. However, mental illnesses can be
complex and are commonly accompanied by amalgamated origins, and unclear triggers that take time
to uncover and treat. This makes the process challenging when attempting to implement treatment. In
reading An Unquiet Mind , the triggers that may have affected Kay Redfield Jameson s mental
stability during her later years, are recognizable. In addition to the plane crash that Kay witnessed as a
child, another stressor for her was being exposed to various unfamiliar people and environments
within a short period of time. When fifth grade came around, Kay and her older siblings, had been
enrolled in four different elementary schools and moved to a variety of places, some of which
included Puerto Rico, California, Florida, Tokyo, and Washington DC. Instability resulted in a
constant need to readjust to unfamiliar places, leading to social difficulties with making new friends
and maintaining old friendships. Throughout Kay s younger years, her father was known as a fun,
witty, and entertaining person. During her teenage years, her father s moods became increasingly dark,
full of despair and rage; he was dealing with manic depression. Kay s sister also struggled with this.
The temperament of the two sisters is likely to have been negatively

Which Beverage Contains The Most Gas
Which beverage contains the most gas?
Beverages are drinks; water, tea, milk, coffee, etc. They can be sodas, carbonated or soft drinks. They
all contain different amounts of gas, and which beverage contains the most gas?
What is so important about how much gas is in a beverage? People should start thinking about the
beverages they drink. Water, pure fruit juices, milk and sometimes coffee are healthy drinks. It will
improve everyone s nutrition just by avoiding sugary and fizzy drinks because they contain gas that
can affect some people s stomach in a painful way.
How are beverages carbonated? Carbonated drinks are made from spring water. Spring water can
naturally absorb carbon dioxide because of the high pressures underground. Artificial carbonation
could have supplements such as light flavoring. Today, people use artificial carbonation, or human
made carbonation to make carbonated drinks, sodas, or seltzer water.
How does gas affect stomachs? Gas can harm some people s stomach. Drinking carbonated beverages
too often can cause that. People can feel a sharp pain, swelling, and squeezing in their stomach. Gas
can cause bloating, which is feeling swollen, full, or even making your stomach appear larger.
Although, beverages that cause gas don t affect everyone s stomach. ... Show more content on

People should avoid drinking carbonated drinks. They can still drink them, but not too much. Since
gas is a sign of undigested food, drinking more water can aid digestion. They also should not drink or
eat too fast, or people can swallow air which can cause gas pain. They shouldn t drink with a straw, or
it will also lead to gas pain. If people drink with a straw, they can swallow air as well. Taking a walk
after eating can reduce the amount of gas in their stomach. If people feel pain, they should resist the
urge to lie down. Otherwise, you are trapping more air rather than letting it empty

Reason In The Most Dangerous Game By General Zaroff
Reason or Instinct? Instinct is no match for reason This is true according to general Zaroff, but does
the author of the story agree? Yes, the author of The Most Dangerous Game believes that reason is no
match for instinct. Throughout the story he gives examples of how reason has out smarted instinct.
Reason is the explanation or justification of a certain action or event;the reason is not affected by force
of habit. It is a process of very analytical thinking. Instinct, instinct is action woven into your mind for
long periods of time; it is a second nature for you. For example a professional basketball player

Health Information Quality Paper
Introduction Unvalidated Sources of Health Information (USHI) like health information presented
through social network sites (SNS), blogs, forums, private websites and the likes proliferate the
internet. Many times, the information on these platforms are incomplete, incorrect, outdated or plainly
misleading and can be perilous to their consumers [1]. Patients, relatives of patients, or friends of
patients utilize these platforms for a plethora of reasons ranging from guidance on major and minor
health decisions to the desire for support from other users [30]. Support, as used here, could be
emotional, social or financial and is usually gained by patients through the sharing of their personal

identifying key components that inform those antecedents which in turn result in the success of the
technology. This approach as proposed by Benbasat and Barki [26] for the technology acceptance

to the desired success of information technology artifacts. Some applicable theories that can be reverse

Revenge In The Cask Of Amontillado
Edgar Allan Poe is an American author famously known for short stories of mystery and horror. One
of the many short stories that Edgar Allan Poe is known for is The Cask of Amontillado. This short
story is about Montressor s seek of revenge to Fortunato who had hurt him a thousand times and
learned that Fortunato laughed at his proud name, Montressor, the name of an old and honored family
(Poe). Montressor devises a plan of revenge by using Fortunato s great weakness; he liked to drink
good wine, indeed he drank much of it (Poe). One evening during the carnival season, Montressor
meets Fortunato on the street alone drunk and celebrating the carnival season in a motley a traditional

Montressor also indicates himself too as person with high status by ending his statement with as once I
was. In Critical Companion to Edgar Allan Poe: A Literary Reference to His Life and Work by Dawn
B. Sova, views the significance of the conflict between the Roman Catholic Montressor and the
Mason Fortunato as one of the Church defending against it enemies (42). While Sova defines it as
political and religious conflict as the root for revenge, I believe that this is just a conflict between two
rich men of great arrogance who had their feelings hurt and wanted to use family power for revenge
because two people of a political and religious conflict does not simply go into each other s house and
start drinking together. Montressor continues to express his care and insist that they should go back.
He explains to Fortunato that he will be ill, and cannot be responsible (Poe). This verbal irony
describes Montressor s view towards revenge of not only punish but punish with impunity because he
wants to have his murderous revenge without any consequences. Fortunato foolishly replies:
Enough,
The cough s a mere nothing; it will not kill me. I shall not die of a cough.
True true, I replied; and indeed, I had no intentions of alarming you unnecessarily but you should use
all proper caution. (Poe)

  • 2. Hostesses Unafraid Rhetorical Analysis HOSTESSES UNAFRAID! Text 1 The advert Hostesses unafraid published in the TIME magazine, is filled with figurative language. The advert about Campbell s Tomato Soup persuades the customers throughout the advert to make a purchase of it. It uses a hostess to get its message across and has pictures of the soup to further clarify to the readers the product Campbell is selling. The very fact that this article is written in layman language makes it very relatable and interesting to read. The title itself is written in bold, capital letters to catch the attention of the reader. The exclamation makes it seem like an announcement rather than a title, engaging customers into the advert. The whole text, especially the first paragraph has a rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The slogan Double rich! Double strength! uses repetition as the word double is used twice, this puts emphasis on quality and the outcome of having the soup, which promises the reader to be healthier and more energy filled compared to having other soups. The bold letters of the slogan are eye catching and the exclamations indicate the slogan as an important declaration, making it memorable. The author creates a feeling of trust as the compares Campbell s quality of soup with your home kitchen . This makes the situation more relatable and trustworthy as the feeling of nostalgia is again introduced. The promise of the soup being better than the one made at home leaves the reader surprised and persuaded to buy the soup since they re given a quality assurance. The tone becomes instructional towards the end as the advert directs the customers to follow a fixed recipe. It s then changed to a satiric tone as the advert jokes about paying no extra money for doubling the quantity by simply adding water. This however, creates a contrast because throughout the advert the soup is pictured as something divine to indulge in but, the phrase at no extra cost breaks such an image of the ... • 4. Essay on Advertising Fast Food to Children Under The Age... How much do the fast food companies spend for advertising to children in the United States? In 2009, The Fast food companies spent over $ 4.2 billion in the fast food industry alone to market on television, the internet, social media sites, etc (Brownell, 2009). This amount of money demonstrated that advertising to children is big business for companies, but it affects children directly, who are innocent of future generations. The purpose of this essay is to convince legislators to consider banning the advertising of fast food to children under the age of 12 in children s programming. First, I will briefly describe the definition of fast food and the negative effects of advertising fast food to children under the age of 12. They are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The television advertising targeted at children is harmful. The Journal of the American Medical Association has said children between ages of two and seventeen watch an annual average of 15,000 to 18,000 hours of television, compared with 12,000 hours spent per year in school (Beacon Press, 2000). This indicates that children watch television for too many hours, so the advertising companies target children to increase the number of people, watching their programs. We can see from the above that the fast food industry spends a lot of money to just advertise to children increase their profit. Also, based on the research of the Food Advertising to Children and Teen Scores, show that the average preschooler between the ages 2 to 5 see almost three fast food advertisements every day. The children between the ages 6 to 11 see three and a half advertisements for each day, and teenagers see almost five advertisements for every day (Yale University s Rudd Center, 2009). In other words, average children ages 2 to 11 see fast food advertisements approximately 3 times for each day. If children watch advertisements from television every day, within one year children will have watched fast food advertisements approximately 2,000 times a year. This is a very serious amount that should cause concern with our young children. Children are influenced by television ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Epic Of Beowulf By William Beowulf The book Beowulf is a story of a man named Beowulf, who comes from the land of the Geats, who is continuously put to the test having to fight in battles, in which in his last battle he Beowulf finds death. After reading Beowulf I have concluded that this book is meant to glorify the men who have fought and succeeded in violent battles. Those men hold a legacy and power in which there name is known throughout. Those same men have children or sons and their sons continue to hold that legacy with them and make one of their own, if they do not then they no longer have power and fame and become unknown. Therefore in order to hold a legacy, have power, and become known, one must fight in brutal wars and must win in those wars, and one main person that fulfilled this duty was Beowulf. As the story begins it introduces a warrior, King Shield Sheafson, scourge of many tribes, a wrecker of mead benches, rampaging amoung foes (3). Although he did not have a father he, flourished later on as his powers waxed and his worth was proved (3), he was known as one good king. It is he who became the founding father that started a legacy for the land of the Danes. King Shield had a famous son named Beow, who was then passed the throne after his father s death. Beow was known through the North and was well regarded and ruled the Danes for a long time (7). He fathered four children, Heorogar, Hrothgar, Halga, and a daughter. Throughout this paper I will lead you through the process of plea bargaining, the pros and cons, and how it reflects on crime control and the due process model. Plea Bargaining What is plea bargaining? According to Black s Law Dictionary it is a negotiated agreement between a prosecutor and a criminal defendant whereby the defendant pleads guilty to a lesser offense or to one of multiple charges in exchange for some concession by the prosecutor. This usually involves the defendant pleading guilty to a lighter sentence. If the offer by the prosecution is accepted then the defendant can either plead guilty or nolo contendere which means I do not contest this. The two novels portray both things that Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with, the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. In The Acts of King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the novel goes in depth into how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir Essay The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir In the chapter of her book The Second Sex entitled the Woman in Love, Simone de Beauvoir characterizes the romantic ideal of the relationship with a man as a woman s purpose as a form of self deception (translated here as bad faith ). The self deception de Beauvoir describes is based in the thesis of The Second Sex. This is the idea that women have been deceived into believing that they are second class humans. Western culture, according to de Beauvoir, teaches us that women are missing some elusive element of the self that endows men with freedom a concept essential to the existentialist definition of the conscious being. Therefore, a woman can never find fulfillment as a thinking person as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 653. This is the same mindset that Sartre applies to the anti Semite the refusal to consider the complexity of the world in favor of a system that provides easy answers to all life s questions. Only, unlike the anti Semite, the woman is turning her hatred inward; does she hate herself because she fears freedom or because she feels she is not worthy of it? De Beauvoir seems to believe that fear is the primary cause for this willing dependency. She cites the psychoanalytic view that women s obsession with love does not comes from a desire for men at all, but from a desire to return to the secure dependency of childhood. This explains the lifelong refuge some women take in infantile ( cute ) behavior and appearance, but psychoanalytic explanations for human behavior have proven to be far less than perfect, and a woman s self worth (or, in this case, lack thereof) has far more complex roots than a Freudian theorem. What is sure is that the female ideal of love assumes a place of greater importance in the psyche than the libido alone. The quest for absolute communion with the beloved assumes a mystical element that is similar in many ways to religious devotion, as de Beauvoir explains. (The lack of belief in God makes this attitude even more contemptible from an existentialist point of view.) (BBC) This is clearly a significant current event in UK at the moment because 7.2% of their population is without a job. The unemployment rate in Scotland fell to 6.9%, in Wales it was 6.7% while in Northern Ireland it was 7.5%. (BBC) Interestingly, I found that the Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: Another significant fall in unemployment is a sign our long term economic plan is working, providing security and chances for hard working people. (BBC) In other words, the rising rate of unemployment is not necessarily a clear indicator of a shattered economy. A large portion of the unemployed are self employed businessmen or entrepreneurs working on their own ventures and have found new ways of producing a steady income within the British economy. This encouraged the factory owners to overwork and abuse their workers, as the workers could not afford to lose their jobs. The Playboy Of The Western World Critique The Playboy of the Western World Critique I was overall extremely impressed with the University of Houston s production of The Playboy of The Western World. The play and the intention of comedy were both carried out very well by the actors. I felt that I was engaged in the play, seeming like I was actually a part of the performance. The theatre department s attempt on this play was very worthwhile, providing both a good laugh and a superb form of entertainment. The predominant theme of this play was the chaotic father/son relationship. The message the play is trying to give is that children can go against their fathers, rioting against them and disobeying their orders and expectations, and how a stereotypical message of disobedience is sent. In the worst of cases, the father becomes nearly powerless, unable to act or alter the situation in anyway. I do agree with the message that sometimes children can have control over their parents, and how sometimes there is nothing that can be done about it. In the play, it was exactly like that when Christy tried to kill his father three times without ever obeying a single one of his commands and even getting in a face to face fight with him. I have also witnessed this situation in other TV shows and novels. I found that message to be extremely disturbing for me in The Playboy of the Western World. Under the law women were not equal citizens to men, so women that were abused by their husbands or family members attributed it to bad luck. Industrialization widened the work home divide. That is, work done in the home (women s work) and wage labour (men s work) was separated by sex, and the latter was considered real work. In tandem with political and legal gains, throughout the twentieth century the rate of women participating in the work forced increased. As capitalism became the major form of social organization, and women were liberated and emancipated from men and the private sphere, violence was no longer sufficient to enforce dependence on individual men. Stark explains that this was because the material and political basis for patriarchy was displaced, and the illogical privilege based solely on sex was exposed. Sexual hierarchies began to collapse, and men began using a range of behaviours to compliment their use of force. Although it was not specifically written about before the 1970s, this became known as coercive control. Many writers have attempted to find the words to express how the family of a lost loved one feels in the aftermath of such a terrible tragedy, but often they fail to fully grasp the emotion in their writing. Lin Manuel Miranda is not one of these writers. In his song, It s Quiet Uptown, from Hamilton, he beautifully portrays what its like trying to continue after losing someone one has never imagined having to let go. The song describes the life of Alexander Hamilton and his wife Eliza attempting to cope with the death of their eldest son, Philip. The beautiful language of the song and the vivid imagery in the lyrics clearly convey the emotions one feels after the sudden loss of a loved one and what it s like to watch people go through such a terrible time. The beautiful music and the emotion with which it is preformed provide an excellent medium through which to convey this message. The depth of Hamilton s grief is wonderfully portrayed in this piece of art. The first instance of this imagery is in the first lines. Angelica sings, There are moments that the words don t reach, There is suffering to terrible to name, You hold your child as tight as you can, And push away the unimaginable. Another vivid poem about World War 1 is Wilfred Owens poem The Last Laugh . Again the first line of this poem is striking O Jesus Christ! The Number by Alex Berenson Book Review Essay Such an intense focus has been placed on quarterly earnings as an indication of a company s success by everyone from analysts to executives that ethics have for the most part been thrown out the window, sacrificed to the all important number, i.e. earnings per share. The Number is a great primer, skillfully written, giving the average Joe background and fundamentals about the stock market to help readers begin to form their own opinions independently rather than only using Wall Street research. The footnotes of the book give great information, tips and nuggets of wisdom along the way very similar to the way that the footnotes of financial statements can be very informative. This is a great book to use to get your feet wet on the stock market and corporations today. The point of view that Berenson has in this book is that the market should be more heavily regulated, that regulatory agencies should crack down harder on accountants, and that prosecuting and jailing offenders is the only way to stop bad behavior. While I agree with this point of view, I also believe that it will always be an ongoing battle. The Cherokees once passed through here in the early 17th century (Wallace, 1970). The Susquehannock Indians were an Iroquois Indian tribe that settled the Susquehanna watershed before they migrated to Maryland, near the Chesapeake Bay (Cadzow, 1936).
