The Life Of Plato s The Republic
Throughout the early books of Plato s The Republic, Socrates and his interlocutors Adeimantus,
Polemarchus, Glaucon, Thrasymachus, and to a lesser extent Cephalus, explore what it means to be
just and why justice is preferable to injustice. This topic was brought up in a monologue from
Cephalus, who is an old patriarch that represents Greek tradition and thus offers a traditional view of
justice. One by one, all of the interlocutors attempt to define justice, with Socrates disagreeing with at
least some part of each definition. After not being able to define justice for a majority of the early
portions of The Republic, Socrates finally comes to the conclusion that [the just man] doesn t let each
part in him mind other people s business or the three classes in the soul meddle with each other, he
arranges himself, becomes his own friend, and harmonizes the three part (443d2 6). In other words,
the just man lets each part of his soul rule itself. The rational part of our soul seeks truth, the spirited
part of our soul seeks honor, and the appetitive part of our soul seeks our more earthly desires, such as
sex, food and economic success. After this, the conversation would seem to be over. As we know,
however, The Republic is not even half over. There are several critical factors behind the continuation
of The Republic, but it all has to do with unanswered questions, continued debate and, above all,
digression.. While creating the city in speech, Socrates make several

Mexican Pioneers
In this article Mexicans: Pioneers of a Different Type Gonzalez gives us an outlook different from
what we generally read when taught about American History. His effort is to explain how each of the
different Latino groups came. What was happening in their home towns that caused them to leave. If
people want to accept it, eventually they will have to. That this country is bound to go through an
enormous Latino population explosion. Gonzalez writes Mexican Americans meanwhile, face a
frustrating identity problem like that of Puerto Ricans (pg97). Being a Mexican American myself I
could agree that it is at times frustrating identifying. We are either too American to be Mexican. Or too
Mexican, to be American. In 1749 because of what was called the promise ... Show more content on

There is common history between Latin Americans and Anglo Americans, like the Arabs and Jews of
the Middle East, cousins in constant conflict, often hearing but not understanding each other. In this
chapter Gonzalez tells us about how both Latin American and Anglo American cultures fabricated
their colonial origin. The 1500 s through the early 1800s specially explains the foundation of what
now makes up the US. Since early on in time Anglo colonist saw Mexicans as an obstacle to
evolution. Unfortunately, because most did not know how to read or write they were easily fooled.
Because of this so many were done wrong, at times had their lands taken away. Canelas family were
some of the witnesses to the lynching s which occurred as last as 1917. In 1859 Cortina; a Canelas
ancestor, declared was against the Anglo settler minority. In 1929, an important year where we had the
first organization intended to break down segregation. The name of that organization was League of
United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). The main goal was to get the Anglo society to accept
Mexicans as equal citizens. They could do this by teaching the chief goal to master his

Cross Cultural Interactions Of A New And Invigorated Way
I would like to start off this final assignment by stating this course has been very informative in many
ways and has allowed me to evaluate myself and cross cultural interactions in a new and invigorated
way. At the beginning of the course I was skeptical of the objectives, largely due to my previous
learning experiences, while attend the Joint Senior Enlisted Academy four years ago the faculty
brought in very well respected speakers to convey similar topics. My personal willingness to take an
alternative perspective or delay judgement on the topics they were discussing was lacking, reflecting
back on that time now I feel it was largely due to taking the group s perspective and how the speakers
were introduced by some of the instructors prior to their presentations. I don t think the instructors
were maliciously trying to sabotage the presentations, there were references to members from
previous classes getting upset because of the speakers liberal leanings, they were just giving the class
a heads up to the nature of the presentation, but this led me personally not seriously considering their
ideas or experiences.
When assessing my confidence level with the five enabling attitudes introduced in this week s lesson
three of the five I immediately relate to and feel comfortable in my ability employ them in future cross
cultural engagements. Those three are tolerance of ambiguity, resilience and willingness to engage,
several times during this course I have been able to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Separation Of Powers
Separation of powers, together with the rule of law and parliamentary sovereignty, runs like a thread
throughout the constitution of the United Kingdom. The term trias politica or separation of powers
was coined by Charles Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, an 18th century
French social and political philosopher. His publication, Spirit of the Laws, is considered one of the
great works in the history of political theory and jurisprudence, and it inspired the Declaration of the
Rights of Man and the Constitution of the United States. Under his model, the political authority of the
state is divided into legislative, executive and judicial powers. He asserted that, to most effectively
promote liberty, these three powers must be separate and acting independently. This assignment
discusses whether the doctrine of separation of powers is evident and desirable under the United
Kingdom constitution. It also seeks to analyze the rationale and impacts of the separation of powers.
In addition, the assignment will examine the advantages and disadvantages of separation of powers
and how well it functions under the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main characteristics of the British constitution is that it has a parliamentary executive, as,
by constitutional convention the executive is drawn from the legislature. As ministers sit in the House
of Commons, they are directly accountable to Parliament. However, s2 of the House of Commons
Disqualification Act 1975 limits the number of minister who can sit in the House of Commons. This
clearly shows that ministers can exercise both the role of Parliament and the executive. Moreover,
parliamentary executive can also be seen in devolved institutions such as Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland. For example, in Scotland the Scottish executive is drawn from the Scottish

Why Do Holes Have Such A Dystopia
Imagine being put in a camp where there is no water and you are stuck everyday digging holes. Don t
forget you are put digging holes with some of the bad guys that can easily get you into trouble. Holes
should be preserved because it has a very strong dystopia, a great message/theme, and a huge curse is
involved making a huge deal.
Holes has a very strong dystopia and this dystopia is placed at Camp Green Lake. The land was barren

Carotid Dissection Case Study Examples
Carotid artery dissection remains to be the least recognized entity among the variety of cardiovascular
syndromes (Stapf, Elkind, Mohr, 2000). Dissection of the carotid artery is caused by a tearing of the
arterial wall layers, usually the intima from the media. The tear flaps freely in the arterial lumen
creating a false lumen, where blood can enter and may form a thrombus (Kupinski, 2013). The
weakening of the arterial wall caused by the separation of the layers may also result in a
pseudoaneurysm (Schievink, 2001). Although carotid dissection account for less than 2% of all
ischemic strokes, they are the leading cause of ischemic strokes affecting all age groups, including
children, especially with patients in their fifth decade of life (Schievink, 2001). Most patients may
present with minor stroke symptoms with localized pain in the neck or face and some patients may be
asymptomatic. The diagnostic goal is to identify these patients prior to an ischemic event. Duplex
ultrasound has proven to be a reliable and safe imaging modality that provides accurate diagnostic
data for early carotid artery obstructive disease and follow up for dissections. Case Study A 63 year

Most commonly presented symptoms are unilateral headaches, facial or neck pain ipsilateral to the
dissection, as was the case for this patient, but they could also experience mild cranial nerve
dysfunction or a complete ischemic event (Stapf et al., 2000). Ischemic events frequently occur with
about 50% of patients reporting ischemic symptoms preceding a stroke (Schievink, 2001). There is a
higher risk of a stroke within the first month of the onset of a dissection, thus, early diagnosis is
important to initiate management and prevention of stroke (Adkins et al.,

Coachman Essay
Women had very little opportunities before Title IX existed, especially in sports. They were not able to
participate in any organized sports because they were only designed for men. Women only played
sports or participated in any physical activities recreationally and without rules. In the past, many
believed that engaging in physical activity was harmful for women s health, especially when they
were in their menstruation period. Obviously, this idea was thought by a man who believed that it is
only fair for women to limit their level of physical activity. However, this did not stop women from
going against the norm; many began to value physical activities more as participation and interest
increased. This drove them to become more competitive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coachman for instance, had to improvise her training when she first fell in love with track and field;
she ran barefoot in fields or dirt roads and only had access to old equipment or had to make her own

just that. She was very creative. Her perseverance to excel caught the eye of her high school s boy s

become popular until the Olympic Games of 1948, where she set a high jump record, winning her the
gold medal and making her the first black woman to win an Olympic gold medal and she became the
first black woman to also earn an endorsement deal by the Coca Cola Company ( Alice Coachman,

Number Of Drops Of A Penny Lab Report
Introduction
The number of drops a penny can hold is affected by the type of liquid. Will the number of drops on
the penny until it overflows change if I change the liquid from water to sodium chloride water and by
how much will it change? To investigate this, there needs to be variables that are not changed when
experimenting. The penny is the dependent variable because it depends on the number of drops to
overflow and the drops of the liquid the independent variable as it does not change or depend. The
controlled variables include using the same penny, applying the same amount of pressure on the
dropper for each drop, the height of the drop that is falling onto the penny, and using the same
dropper. The independent variable is changed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this recent one, how many drops of sodium chloride can a penny hold before it overflows, it turned
out to be the penny can hold 31 drops before it overflows. However these results may not be as
accurate as they are supposed to be and may only be 80 percent accurate. Evaluation/Analysis The
height of the liquid dropping from the dropper may have been from the same height if the hand was
resting on the table/desk for each drop of sodium chloride, however the angles the liquid was dropped
and where (on which part of the penny) it was dropped may make a difference in results. It may
interfere with the amount of force on the water on top of the penny to cause it to move and overflow.
Another error may be with the amount of liquid dispersed on the penny each time (in one squeeze of
the dropper) which also associates with the amount of force exerted as the dropper was squeezed. A
solution this would be to use a dropper than only disperses a certain amount of liquid at a time (the
pressure or force of the squeeze does not make a difference to how much liquid is released). This
would provide more accurate results and not create

The Easiest Path In The Lottery, By Shirley Jackson
Two stories from different genres and different points of view, somehow deals the same theme.
Standing up for what is right may not always be the easiest path, there is was some consequence that
people have to pay for trying to make things right. Everyday there is something going on that people
want to change, but they cannot always stand up. In the story The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson,
villagers gather in the town square, to the annual lottery, where only one person is lucky. However,
winning is actually losing in this story, the winner gets stoned to death by their peers. Mrs. Hutchinson

For example, Mrs. Hutchinson was telling the crowd of villagers You didn t give him time enough to
take any paper he wanted. I saw you. It wasn t fair! , when Mr. Hutchinson got the slip of paper,

always be the easiest path , because Mrs. Hutchinson was trying to tell everyone that it was not fair,
that Mr. Hutchinson was pressured, but no one listened to her. Because it is hard to stand up for what
is right. Another example, in The Lottery is [ It isn t fair, she said. A stone hit her on the side of the
head ]. This example illustrates that it may not always be the easiest path in the theme, because
Tessie/Mrs. Hutchinson tries to stand up for what is right and at the end she just got stoned to death.

doing the lottery, because they are standing for what is right, however Old Man Warner reacts that

Who was Robin Hood? Legend has it that Robin Hood was an outlaw living in Sherwood Forest with
his Merry Men but did the outlaw of Nottingham really exist?
Robin Hood, the subject of many ballads, books and films, has proven to be one of popular culture s
most enduring folk heroes. Over the course of 700 years, the outlaw from Nottingham who robs from
the rich to give to the poor has emerged as one of the most versatile folk heroes but how has the
legend of Sherwood Forest s merry outlaws evolved over time and did a real Robin Hood inspire these

Life That Saw The Rise Of The Dinosaurs
The chapters of life that saw the rise of the dinosaurs is one of the most fascinating periods in the
history of our planet. It is often the subject brings about a child s first exposure to science. When the
children learn about the prehistoric beast attractive, one of their main requirements related to the cause
of their destruction, What could have led to the collapse of all creatures, living very successful for
millions of years? This question has plagued experts and curious children as well as for decades
Dinosaurs: How they became something extinction occurred 65 million years ago, in the late
Cretaceous period, something very terrible that it changed the course of life on Earth. It seems like it
happened so suddenly, like geological time away, but almost all the dinosaurs lived on Earth
disappeared. So how dominant creatures just die? It has to be a slow extinction, or it happened all of
the sudden? These questions bring arouse many different beliefs about how dinosaurs disappeared 65
million years ago. Extinction itself is easy to determine: When birth rates do not keep pace with
mortality, it is called extinction. However, the definition does not answer the question about the nature
or cause of the extinction. The second type of extinction is known as mass extinctions. There are four
main components to participate: A large number of extinct species; variety of species extinction; the
work must be global; and effects must occur within a short period of geologic time.1

Sports And Underrepresentation In Sports
Asian people are under represented in America. There isn t very many of them in sports. Only 1.9% of
people in the National Football League(NFL) are Asian. Only 2.1% of people in Major League
Baseball( MLB) are Asian. Worst of all Asians only make up .2% of the National Basketball
Association(NBA). Asians are even underrepresented in pop culture. White actors often play the roles
of Asians in movies. In the movie Ghost in a Shell The main character Motoko Kusanagi was played
by Scarlett Johansson. In the movie Star Trek Into Darkness, the main character Khan Noonien Singh
was played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Asians aren t just underrepresented in Hollywood, they are also
underrepresented on television. The television series Fresh Off the Boat is the first prime time sitcom,
in 20 years since All American girl by Margaret Cho, to feature an Asian American cast. In the United
States, we have more than 50 million Asians but they are criminally underrepresented in sports and
pop culture. Many Asian kids grow up and don t have many famous people of their same race to look
up to. These kids go through their whole life with nobody to look up to.
I have a great solution to this problem. My solution would lead to more Asian people in sports. It

Americans today are no strangers to stretching every dollar earned in an attempt to live the American
dream. Most people work long hours and eat on the fly with very little thought to what, or where, the
food they have purchased came from. The reason food is so inexpensive has not been a concern to the

Pollan goes on to say that the policies weren t always misplaced, and they have played an important
role until recently, so he does speak on both sides of the fence in regards to the old policies so readers

Pollan goes on to suggest that there are many different approaches to the food movement, and
although the movement seems splintered and sometimes the various factions [...] work at cross
purposes, the author uses some highly credible sources to show that despite its many offshoots, a
cohesion of the masses has taken root in the food movement (par.11). The author uses big names like
Troy Duster, who is a renowned research sociologist from Northwestern University, to help clarify his
point. Troy duster states that viewed from a middle distance, then, the food movement coalesces
around the recognition that todays food and farming economy is unsustainable, [...] that it can t go on
in its current form much longer without courting a breakdown of some kind. (Par. 13). The author then
clarifies his point but stating that the food system consumes more fossil fuel energy than we can count
on in the future [...] and emits more greenhouse gases than we can afford to emit. (Par. 14). Pollan

There really is no reason that any law should not be clear. And it should help the poor. However, one
of the main problems with increasing exceptions to the FLSA is that if an employee is being paid the
minimum salary for an exempted worker, they are within a whisper of the poverty line.
The original language pertaining to anyone working with computers was first introduced in 1990. An
be labeled exempt one would have to be paid an hourly rate and paid no less than six and a half times
the minimum wage. In 1996 the rate was adjusted to a fixed rate of $27.63 an hour(U.S. Cong. Small
Business). It was only small decrease from the previous rate at the time. But then in 2004 the language
was further changed. While it was a small change the impact was huge. Instead of only being exempt
if you were paid an hourly rate, you could also now be exempt if you were paid a salary (National
Archives and Records 69:79). The minimum salary rate has not changed since then and remains at 455
a week (United States. Dept. of Labor). To now be exempt as a system developer or systems analyst
you can either be paid $27.63 per hour or a salary of $455 per week. The difference is in those wages
is astounding though. At the fore mentioned hourly rate for a 40 hour work week, you would earn
$57,470.04 a year. Though if a company decided to pay the minimum salary rate,, they would only

The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit
The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self
has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very
existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of
self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was
skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this
paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his
claims on continuity. Descartes non reductionist arguments, though not incorrect, lack the soundness
that Parfit poses with his reductionist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that
nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself,
whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the
truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to
fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the
moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses,
which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its
distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax

nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the
perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer.
Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is

that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of

City Life Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1 of experiencing cities was all about the foundations of the constantly growing metropolitan
city. It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city as a state of mind.
But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and the study of city life.
symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active role in their environment. In
other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the way you interact with others and how
you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me but allowed me to grasp a greater
understanding as to why different cities are the way they are. For example, i m from a small town in
California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent area and people are pretty friendly. However
you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland
California. Here deadly shootings are a regular basis along with many other crimes. The citizens of
these towns are usually right at the or below the poverty line. So to introduce this theory to me gives
me a greater understanding as to why certain cities are dangerous and some aren t. It simply ... Show

Oakland has been in the news for many years now about its crumbling government. Schools fundings
are low, they cut the police force in almost half and no business can flourish here. These are all due to
the fact that the people in charge simply cannot do their job effectively. In order for a city like this to
get back on track it must first get leadership willing to do what it takes to make a difference. Then and
only then will you start to see this city make a turn for the

Essay on Factors Contributing to Colony Collapse Disorder
Picture sitting next to a river in the summer time where it is just the perfect temperature and you are
soaking up the great weather and the amazing scenery when a bee buzzes past you and lands on a
flower by your feet, as human nature you don t want to be next to the bee because it could sting you...
do you step on it or simply walk away? What you may not know is that honeybees play a huge roll in
America s agriculture, whether it is pollinating alfalfa hay to feed your horse or pollinating that apple
you eat every morning for breakfast. Honeybees pollinate about one third of crops species in the U.S.
(Vanishing Bees, 2008). Bees pollinate a lot more than you would think a few more examples are
almonds, avocadoes, cucumbers and peanuts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bees never seem to catch a break which is putting the bees under stress which is a factor.
Furthermore, when they are pollinating all these different plants some are not nutritious as others, for
example cucumbers aren t as healthy as some of the other plants but there is still a demand for them,
so the bees still have to work and eventually become unhealthy if they aren t getting the right
nutrients. Another factor is pesticides, which has many different points of view but overall it has come
to decided it is not the pesticides themselves that are killing masses of bees but it is lowering their
immune system and making it easier for them to get sick, for example with the common parasite
Nosema. Nosema is a parasite in the digestive track of the honey bee that attacks the entire hive and
can eventually wipe out the whole hive. The effects of the pesticides are ultimately never letting the
hives reach their maximum potential, which in the end could render the hives weak and lethargic.
There are so many pesticides out there it is hard to tell exactly what component in the pesticide is
hurting the bees. It is recently found that the inert ingredients used often to boost the effectiveness of
the pesticide are actually more harmful than the actual toxic ingredients

Who Is James Taggart In Atlas Shrugged
James Taggart in Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand In the novel Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, one of the
major philosophies that is instilled is that there are productive people in the world and non productive
people. Rand makes it apparent that there are increasing numbers of ineffective individuals who take
advantage of the constructive people in society. James Taggart is the main symbol that Rand utilises to
represent the individuals in society who are unproductive, weak and who thrive off other s success.
James first words in the novel are, Don t bother me, don t bother me, don t bother me {{15}}, these
words strongly establish his personality and how he evades his responsibilities as the president of

After Dagny s resignation from Taggart Transcontinental, James randomly without any consideration
put an inexperienced individual in her place, Clifton Locey. Locey had made arrangements for Dr.
Charles Morrison to travel on a diesel engine train to an important business meeting. The president of
Taggart Transcontinental, James, did not inquire in any means about this schedule, and was abruptly
awoken in the middle of the night by Dr. Morrison himself through an angry telegram. James was
highly intimidated by Morrison s words and called Locey to tell him to fix the situation immediately
as well as to tell Locey that he was never called in the night when Dagny was in control. These words
from James support, once again, the concept that he relies on more competent individuals of society,
and how he does not take responsibility when it is necessary. The words that James said to Locey also
imply that the success of Taggart Transcontinental was completely due to Dagny, and how she ran the
company. This point is magnified in the following actions taken by James once he finds out that the
Taggart Tunnel has collapsed, as well as the explosion between the diesel engine train and the Army
Munitions killed everyone on board. James immediately contacts Dagny though her assistant Eddie,
and then he destroys Dagny s resignation letter once she arrives at Taggart Transcontinental. James
actions are seen as highly manipulative, as well as irresponsible. James ignored the extreme situations
that were occurring at the company and used it to entice Dagny to return to Taggart Transcontinental.
These previously mentioned actions taken by James were foreseen by his first words in the novel,
which implied his evasion of his obligations, and his destructive and selfish

Mary Queen Of Scots Summary

Mary Queen of Scots
The book I chose to read was Mary Queen of Scots. The author of this book is Sally Stepanek. The
book was published by Chelsea House Publishers in 1987 with a total of 110 pages. The book is about
Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had went
through and the good times too.
To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her home
land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that disowned her. She
had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary s life it also tells a lot
about others too. I did not like the book because I felt as though it was repetitive in some parts and
also it was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I do believe that if people besides me that
were interested in it, it would be very successful book, but to me I would not purchase or read this
book again.
Second of all, the book is all about Mary s life from birth to her unfair death. The author often tells
about the fighting between the Protestants and Catholic Church. It also tells of her three husbands and
her many lovers threw her life. The important conclusions is that Mary was Queen of France and
Queen of Scots, also how she was tried for treason and the murder of her second husband Lord
Darnley. Also there was a battle over the infant Queen with

Sex and Dementia. Should People with Dementia Be Able To Consent To Having Sex With Their
Loved Ones?
A big controversy that people around the world argue is whether a person with a mental disability such
as, dementia, should continue to have sexual relationships with their lover. Dementia is ...a chronic or
persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory
disorders, personality disorders, and impaired reasoning (Google search, dementia definition). In my
opinion, I don t think people with dementia should be having sex because of the many consequences
this can cause to a relationship or a person such as, the loss of memory, ... Show more content on

That would be taking advantage of that person and will also be rape (Ina Jaffe, Can a person with
dementia consent to sex). On top of all that, the person just, gets away with it with no problems at all
and nothing to stop that freak since the person with dementia had no signs of resistance or anything...
Another thing, I don t think institutions where it is allowed/encouraged to have sex should be allowed.
What if that person has a loved one(s) at home that STILL HAVE A RELATIONSHIP GOING!?!? I
understand that intimacy with a person when someone has Dementia can help with the mental
disorder, but I just don t think that it seems fair to his/her son/daughter(s) or husband/wife at home
who wait all day and night to hear or worries from that person(Dr. Pepper Schwartz, What are our
rights when we re not ourselves any more?). I understand how some people may think that humans
with Dementia should be able to consent to having sex, but think of it as if, a person is using another
person because of their disability. An example of this: So Tom (Husband)and Jackie(Wife who has
dementia) live in the same house, right next to them lives Jerry who just moved in and looks like Tom.
Tom went out of town for the week and trusted Jerry to take care of her, so Jerry goes check up on her
and Jackie forgets that her husband is gone for the week. Knowing that she had that mental disorder,
Jerry took advantage of her and got away with it without a trace... (A more simple metaphor/A more
simpler example) A boy who starves for sweets sees this girl and she has candy that the boy likes.
They hang out together for a bit until she runs out of candy to give to the boy, then he sees a girl with
chocolate chip cookies, so

Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats Essay
Analysis of When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats
When You are Old, by William Butler Yeats, represents and elderly woman reminiscing of her younger
days. A past lover whispers to her as she looks through a photo album. Basically, Yeats is showing that
as the woman gets older, she is alone, but she does not have to be lonely. She will always have her
memories for companionship.
When you are old and grey and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire (l.1 2) depicts the woman in her
age, needing to nap more frequently. He speaks of a book (l.2) and the soft look of her eyes (l.3 4).
This book signifies a photo album that contains pictures of her as young adult.
Yeats speaks of her glad grace (l.5) as her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
?And love the sorrows of your changing face? (l.8) means simply that even as her face aged, the love
he felt for her grew stronger.
?And bending down beside the glowing bars,? (l.9) could be translated to ?as you?re bending down to
stoke the fire,? she?ll mumble to herself about his death, ?how Love fled? (l.10) and his soul climbing
to heaven to live ?amid a crowd of stars? (l.12).
In the last verse of When you are Old, William Butler Yeats uses personification of love to enhance the
image of the late lover waiting for the elderly woman. Lines 10 12 ?Murmur, a little sadly, how Love
fled, and paced upon the mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowd of stars? give personal
qualities to love. By capitalizing love, it becomes its own being, which waits impatiently, hence
pacing the mountain. Yeats gives love a face hidden in the stars. The ?face? is love?s distinguishing
characteristics, such as tenderness and sensitivity.
The conclusion of When You are Old leaves the woman smiling to herself over the memories she has.
She knows that one day she will be reunited with her true love, so she can live the remainder of her
life peacefully.
I personally love this poem. It leaves me with a feeling of contentment, just thinking that someone
with a little age, and all alone can look back upon her life and keep smiling until it is her time to be
united with her soul mate. Usually when we consider the elderly, it is in a

Analysis Of The Brown House By Hisaye Yamamoto
Hisaye Yamamoto, a Japanese American author, composed a collection of short stories titled,
Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories. These collection of short stories describes the experiences
Japanese Americans undergo while residing in America. The Japanese American culture that
Yamamoto introduces has three types of generations. The first one being, the Issei, the second one
being, the Nisei and the third one being, the Sensei. All three Japanese generations are described in
Yamamoto s short story cycle, which shows the relationship between Japanese Americans as well as
with other ethnic groups. The major themes Yamamoto highlights within her novel defines the idea of
what it is like to be Japanese American through the difficulties that Japanese immigrants face in
America, the cultural separation between these immigrants and their children as well as restrictions
that Japanese women face within their traditional Japanese culture. The Brown House , a short story
within Yamamoto s novel, Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories, depicts the three themes that were
previously mentioned above. The Brown House displays a story about a Japanese American family,
the Hattoris, residing in the state of California. The Hattoris underwent financial struggles as their
strawberry picking season came to an end. This being stated, in an attempt to make some quick cash,
Mr. Hattori becomes desperate and gets involved in the gambling business at the brown house, in a
nearby neighborhood.

Dr. Williams And Juan Case
In unit seven I was asked to review a case study video regarding Dr. Williams and his client, Juan. The
Dr. Williams and Juan case is intriguing because Dr. Williams s actions toward Juan and his family are
lousy and cringe worthy. Quick synopsis, Dr. Williams defy principles E and B stated within the APA
code of ethics. Principle E states that Psychologists must respect the dignity and worth of all people,
and the rights of individuals to privacy, confidentiality, and self determination. Principle B states that
Psychologists must establish relationships of trust with clients. The first mistake I recognized Dr.

If I was hired or was recommend to handle Juan s case I would first begin by establishing trust
between me and Juan. It is crucial for me to establish a healthy relationship with Juan s parents two.
By establishing a healthy relationship between me and Juan and his parents lays down the foundation I
would need to successfully assign treatment. I can never underestimate a child s ability to comprehend
what I am saying. Children and kids are intelligent young beings especially due to how fast
technology continues to grow. To restate myself, I would first make sure Juan and his parents were
comfortable with my being. I believe by treating people like humans and not like representations of
money helps create the sense of trust I am looking for. According to Marjorie Adams, Organizations
with great customer or client relationships are able to grow their businesses without gimmicks, fee
cuts or special treatment. You have to be good at what you do, of course, but having a truly successful
business is based on one simple concept: trust. (Adams, 2014). Unlike Dr. Williams, I need to know
some backstory on Juan s health history. I would have no problem with Juan s parents wanting me to
contact Juan s physicians. Consultations must be involve in my therapy. Communication is heavily
underrated, and extremely important to a person understanding me and vice versa. I have a duty to
whole heartily help Juan to the best of my abilities and resources. According to the

Implementing An Ed Fast Track Area ( Fta )
Emergency Department crowding is a cause for great concern. It is costly and responsible for
compromising quality of care and community trust (McHugh, VanDyke, McClelland, Moss, 2011).
According to McHugh et al. (2011), improving patient flow can mitigate ED crowding. This paper
will describe a plan to implement an ED fast track area (FTA) as one solution to improve patient flow
and reduce ED crowding. The author will describe the approval process, review the problem, discuss
the proposal, explain the rationale behind the proposal, examine the evidence, describe the
implementation logistics, and determine the necessary resources required for implementation.
Implementation Strategy
Obtaining Approval
In September 2016, the Director of the ED at St. Anthony North Health Campus (SANHC) ED was
approached to discuss the challenges with patient flow. Approval was given to proceed with a study on
the implementation of an FTA as one solution to reduce ED crowding. As this project moves forward,
the author will also seek approval from the ED staff, the Medical Director for the ED, the Chief
Nursing Officer (CNO), and the Chief Medical Officer.
The Problem
St. Anthony North Health Campus (SANHC) ED is a busy Level III trauma center in Westminster,
Colorado. The ED sees approximately 27, 775 patients a year. Of those patients, approximately 27.3%
are Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Levels 4 and 5. The average wait time (WT) for all patients is 11

A Woman Under The Influence
A Woman Under the Influence is an American dramatic film that was written in an entangled way to
illustrate a story. The auteur John Cassavetes wrote and directed this film that was released in
November of 1974. Cassavetes spent most of his career creating films that were more off the grid ; A
Woman Under the Influence is a prime example considering there was no other American film quite
comparable to it. This was a rare film because the internal fluctuations effectively allowed formulating
of the primary configurations. John Cassavetes rejected the elements and techniques of the American
movie and created his own method (LoBrutto). Cassavetes is known to be the pioneer of American
independent film. Independent filmmaking is difficult to establish an exact definition mostly because
it does not follow a set of specific guidelines. Conversely independent films are commonly designated
to be character driven, and these were the films that frequently had an extremely low budget. A
Woman Under the Influence and some of Cassavetes other films demonstrate in a similar form of
bstylistic characterizations of post World War II European film. Independent filmmakers typically
viewed their films as a film as an art form or as a business film. Nonetheless Cassavetes undoubtedly
viewed his films as a form of art.
The film opens with typical events any average family would endure. Gena Rowland starring as,
Mabel Longhetti is introduced to the audience as a typical housewife. It is

Earthquakes, They Destroy, Kill, And Demolish
Earthquakes, they destroy, kill, and demolish. Earthquakes have been recorded for a long time.
Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by
instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum
sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes
however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7
massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed
against each other. When it releases it is like ripples in the water but those ripples are about 10 times
the size, plus the waves can go through the earth and hit outer parts of the earth on the other side. Yet,
because of different types of materials, the waves will never pass straight through the earth. The thing
that powers plate tectonics is convection currents.
The crust (the farthest and the outer est layer of the earth and the one we know and love because it is
helping us not to die) and the upper part of the mantle (that is a loll squid of different density and
different types of metals) make up the lithosphere. It also holds up the plate boundarys where Pangaea
split into 7 massive pieces of rock. The three different types of plate boundaries are convergent
boundarys, divergent boundarys, and transform boundarys.

During many interesting time periods of American history, news about impactful events were not only

Thomas Nast made huge contributions to making the news entertaining, he did his art on presidents,

There are still many challenges that are hindering the future development in globalized trade.
Environmental issues, energy demands and issues in the supply chain field are just a few of these
challenges. An example of the energy issue would be the ongoing fluctuations in energy costs. Freight
and air transportation both depend on petroleum. Typically, the times of higher energy prices creates a
rationalization in the international trade market and the underlying supply chains.
Many the global policies and guidelines in the European Union rest within each member s state. Due
to this, the effectiveness of the European Union guidance relies on the willingness of member states to
adopt the policy. One of the greatest outcomes of the European Union applying and sticking to their

Lung Consolidation Case Study
Lung consolidations may have a variety of causes including infection, pulmonary embolism, lung
cancer and metastasis, compression atelectasis, obstructive atelectasis, and lung contusion Additional
sonographic signs that may help to determine the cause of lung consolidation include the following:
a)The quality of the deep margins of the consolidation.
b) The presence of comet tail reverberation artifacts at the far field margin.
c) The presence of air bronchogram(s).
d) The presence of fluid bronchogram(s).
e)The vascular pattern within the consolidation .
The consolidated region of the lung is visualized at LUS as an echo poor or tissue like image,
depending on the extent of air loss and fluid predominance, which is clearly different from the normal
pattern. The cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In pleuritic pain, LUS is superior to CXR and may allow visualization of radio occult pulmonary
conditions. In mechanically ventilated patients, LUS is more accurate than CXR in detecting and
distinguishing various types of consolidations
Characteristic ultrasonography findings of alveolar syndrome:
Consolidation: Intercostal scan shows a hypoechoic consolidated area that contains multiple echogenic
lines that represent an air bronchogram. The presence of dynamic air bronchogram (branching
echogenic structures with centrifuge movement with breathing) helps to rule out obstructive
atelectasia
Focal interstitial pattern: Focal interstitial pattern was defined as vertical hyperechoic comet tail
artefacts that arose strictly from the pleural line, spread to the edge of the screen without fading and
appeared focally instead of diffusely( Nafae et al.,2013).
Subpleural lesion: Subpleural lesion was defined as pleural based hypoechoic nodules with no
hyperechoic lines within it. It could be triangular, round, linear or polygonal

Two Perspectives Of The The Book Of Jonah
Disobedience is essentially a prideful power struggle against someone in authority over us. It can be a
parent, a priesthood leader, a teacher, or ultimately God. A proud person hates the fact that someone is
above him. He thinks this lowers his position (Ezra Taft Benson). The book of Jonah is based off of a
man who disobeys God. Jonah disobeys God because he was already aware of how the people of
Ninevah would react to the word of God that he came to share. The Book of Jonah can be used as a
piece of art that describes the late 5th to early 4th century in Nineveh. It shows that God ultimately has
the finally decision and he is able to do things to show others the consequence of being disobedient.
The book of Jonah is written in third person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that lived in the East believed the story of Jonah but didn t believe that Jesus was crucified and
raised from the dead. One major thing that they could never see their God do was allow His prophet to
undergo such humiliation (The Importance of the Book of Jonah). Those that lived in the West
disagreed that Jonah was swallowed by a fish and spit back out in three days. If miracles cannot take
place then the story of Jonah must be false ( The importance of the book of Jonah). However both
cities are incorrect because the two situations cannot coincide without each other. As Jonah was
swallowed by the fish, Jesus was buried in the tomb ( The importance of the book of Jonah). This
passage shows that the two situations were connected to each other. Without one you can t have the
other. As Jonah was given new life, Jesus rose from the death (The importance of the book of Jonah).
From the source The importance of the book of Jonah readers can inform that the East and the West
had their differences like any other crosstown cities. With time there is hope that the two cities can be
educated and shown that without Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, Jonah wouldn t have been able
to repent and pray for deliverance from the belly of the whale. Because of Adam and Eve Jesus
sacrificed his life and allowed men to torture him so those that are like Jonah and don t obey God s
commands can be given a chance to ask for forgiveness and try to do what was right in the first

place in the Supreme Court of Delaware. It is a civil case that has been appealed by the plaintiff
following a trial court decision. The Supreme Court agreed with the entire of trial s court decision but
denied part of the Defendants application. The case was decided in April 18, 2012. Issue: Should the
Court rule as time barred the Plaintiff s claims which he makes under the Massachusetts Blue Sky
securities fraud statute and as lacking as a matter of law the Plaintiff s claim on the Defendants unfair
trade practices? Facts: the Plaintiff, Micheal Huffington, is a former Congressman and a good
investment experience. He describes himself as a conservative investor. On July 4, 2006, he learned of
Carlyle and was introduced to its founder, principal, and managing agent, David Rubenstein with
whom he discussed Carlyles investments. The latter described Carlyle as a firm that invests in private
equity. Being as a conservative investor, Huffington initially expressed his reservations about
investing in private equity based funds. Rubenstein assured him that he would look for low risk
investment products that would fit in with Huffington s conservative philosophy. On October 20,
2006, in another meeting between the two, Rubenstein returned with the news that Carlyle had
conservative investment strategy with low risk investment. He went on to present

Mere Christianity Chapter 1 Summary
This month we were assigned to read the last book of Mere Christianity. Chapter one talks about God
s relation to us as followers of Christ. Chapter two discusses the Trinity, and how even though there
are three parts he is a personal God. Chapter three addressed God with time. God is not in the past or
future, but he is in the present. Chapter four sets up the chapter with an image of two books stacked on
each other. These books are a symbol of God as a father and as a son, and along with this he discusses
God s love for us. Chapter five addresses how God breathes life into us, because before we were
lifeless. Chapter six brings attention to what is discussed in chapter five, but it also talks about God in
relation to the human race as a whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this section of reading repetitive. In this portion of the reading C.S Lewis is wrapping up the
loose ends of his discussion on Christianity. Even though I struggled a bit to get through this reading I
still pulled out some interesting points from the reading. One chapter of the book that I enjoyed is
chapter eight. Chapter eight discusses if Christianity is hard or easy. I found this chapter to appeal to
me most because it is something I am very passionate about. During all three of my group s meetings I
have discussed how throughout the book C.S Lewis made it a point to recognize that Christianity is
not a walk in the park. C. S Lewis says in chapter 8, The Christian way is different: harder, and easier.
Christ says Give me All. I don t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much
of your work: I want you (pg. 196). I think this quote sums up Christianity because it is not about if
your walk with the Lord is easy or hard because everyone s faith is different. At the end of the day the
Lord wants all of you and it is as simple as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery
throughout the chapters of this book. He brings imagery with the books, the to soldiers, and by
referencing the story of Beauty and the Beast.BY using this imagery C.S Lewis was able to captivate
the reader s attention. All in all, this book had moments where it would drag, but then Lewis would
say something to draw in the

The Concept Of Individual Rights
The concept of individual rights refers to the freedom each individual possesses to pursue life without
interference from other individuals or the government. A community is a collection of said
individuals, with common interests and values, who take up community responsibilities to ensure that
the collection holds objective standards that are beneficiary to all. Even though these concepts are
intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to separate
them and define where one ends and the other begins. Human social life can often be seen as a unity
of two seemingly contradictory behavioral ideas: status competition and reciprocity. Status
competition is the practice of striving to establish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering the teacher student relationship between Socrates and Plato, similarities between the two
s philosophies are quite obvious, though they might be conveyed in different ways.
In The Apology, Socrates presents his defense to his jurors when on trial for teaching nontraditional
philosophies and, allegedly, affecting the community adversely. In this account, Socrates explains that
his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which claimed that he was the wisest of all
men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs, Socrates concluded that he must be wiser
than other men only in that he is aware of his own lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar
wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose
their false wisdom as ignorance. In a famous passage, Socrates says that God specially appointed him
to the city, as though it were a large thoroughbred horse which because of its great size is inclined to
be lazy and needs the stimulation of some stinging fly (The Apology, 30e). Without him to rouse,
persuade, and reprove the community, Socrates claims society is liable to drift into a deep sleep of
unproductive activity and ethical laziness. When people ask why Socrates cannot quietly mind his

The first step of the strategic planning process is the vision statement, which is a broad statement
about the company s value, purposes, and future direction. The mission statement conveys eight key
components about the firm, including target customers and markets, products and services, geographic
domain, etc. The article states, The finance component is represented by the company s commitment
to survival, growth, and profitability (Kono Barnes). The long term financial goals represent the firm s
commitment to a strategy. The analysis is the third step and comprises of the firm s business trends,
external opportunities, internal resources, and core competencies. Porter s five forces model, industry
evolution model, value chain analysis, and a SWOT analysis can be used within the analysis step. The
next step is strategy formulation, which can be done using Porter s generic strategies model to help the
firm aim for one of the competitive advantages. Lastly, is the strategic implementation and
management step, where the balanced scorecard (BSC) has become the most effective management
instruments used to implement and monitor strategy execution and align the strategy with expected

Theme Of Romanticism In The Scarlet Letter
Romanticism is a literary style of the early 18th century that, praised imagination over reason,
emotions over logic, and intuition over science making way for a vast body of literature of great
sensibility and passion (The Romantic Era). Nathaniel Hawthorne strengthens the mood, plot, and
character development in The Scarlet Letter through his use of Romanticism. The Romantic topics he
uses include, but are not limited to, the use of nature as a symbol, use of rebellion, and the use of the
supernatural. Through the Romantic use of nature, Nathaniel Hawthorne multiplies the significance of
the theme in The Scarlet Letter. The symbolic use of nature influences the reader s interpretation of the
scene and it s meaning, contributing to the overall mood. In the beginning of the novelty narrator
describes the hopeless seen of the prison in which Hester Prynne occupies, the wooden jail was
already marked with weather stains and other indications of age, which gave a yet darker aspect to its
beetle browed and gloomy front (Hawthorne 41). Hawthorne s initial description of the scene gives
the reader a sense of hopelessness and bleakness. With his addition of, But on one side of the portal...
was a wild rose bush... which might be imagined to offer their fragrance and fragile beauty to the
prisoner as he went in, and to the condemned criminal as he came forth to his doom, in token that the
deep heart of Nature could pity and be kind to him (Hawthorne 41). The newfound light

  • 2. The Life Of Plato s The Republic Throughout the early books of Plato s The Republic, Socrates and his interlocutors Adeimantus, Polemarchus, Glaucon, Thrasymachus, and to a lesser extent Cephalus, explore what it means to be just and why justice is preferable to injustice. This topic was brought up in a monologue from Cephalus, who is an old patriarch that represents Greek tradition and thus offers a traditional view of justice. One by one, all of the interlocutors attempt to define justice, with Socrates disagreeing with at least some part of each definition. After not being able to define justice for a majority of the early portions of The Republic, Socrates finally comes to the conclusion that [the just man] doesn t let each part in him mind other people s business or the three classes in the soul meddle with each other, he arranges himself, becomes his own friend, and harmonizes the three part (443d2 6). In other words, the just man lets each part of his soul rule itself. The rational part of our soul seeks truth, the spirited part of our soul seeks honor, and the appetitive part of our soul seeks our more earthly desires, such as sex, food and economic success. After this, the conversation would seem to be over. As we know, however, The Republic is not even half over. There are several critical factors behind the continuation of The Republic, but it all has to do with unanswered questions, continued debate and, above all, digression.. While creating the city in speech, Socrates make several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mexican Pioneers In this article Mexicans: Pioneers of a Different Type Gonzalez gives us an outlook different from what we generally read when taught about American History. His effort is to explain how each of the different Latino groups came. What was happening in their home towns that caused them to leave. If people want to accept it, eventually they will have to. That this country is bound to go through an enormous Latino population explosion. Gonzalez writes Mexican Americans meanwhile, face a frustrating identity problem like that of Puerto Ricans (pg97). Being a Mexican American myself I could agree that it is at times frustrating identifying. We are either too American to be Mexican. Or too Mexican, to be American. In 1749 because of what was called the promise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is common history between Latin Americans and Anglo Americans, like the Arabs and Jews of the Middle East, cousins in constant conflict, often hearing but not understanding each other. In this chapter Gonzalez tells us about how both Latin American and Anglo American cultures fabricated their colonial origin. The 1500 s through the early 1800s specially explains the foundation of what now makes up the US. Since early on in time Anglo colonist saw Mexicans as an obstacle to evolution. Unfortunately, because most did not know how to read or write they were easily fooled. Because of this so many were done wrong, at times had their lands taken away. Canelas family were some of the witnesses to the lynching s which occurred as last as 1917. In 1859 Cortina; a Canelas ancestor, declared was against the Anglo settler minority. In 1929, an important year where we had the first organization intended to break down segregation. The name of that organization was League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). The main goal was to get the Anglo society to accept Mexicans as equal citizens. They could do this by teaching the chief goal to master his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cross Cultural Interactions Of A New And Invigorated Way I would like to start off this final assignment by stating this course has been very informative in many ways and has allowed me to evaluate myself and cross cultural interactions in a new and invigorated way. At the beginning of the course I was skeptical of the objectives, largely due to my previous learning experiences, while attend the Joint Senior Enlisted Academy four years ago the faculty brought in very well respected speakers to convey similar topics. My personal willingness to take an alternative perspective or delay judgement on the topics they were discussing was lacking, reflecting back on that time now I feel it was largely due to taking the group s perspective and how the speakers were introduced by some of the instructors prior to their presentations. I don t think the instructors were maliciously trying to sabotage the presentations, there were references to members from previous classes getting upset because of the speakers liberal leanings, they were just giving the class a heads up to the nature of the presentation, but this led me personally not seriously considering their ideas or experiences. When assessing my confidence level with the five enabling attitudes introduced in this week s lesson three of the five I immediately relate to and feel comfortable in my ability employ them in future cross cultural engagements. Those three are tolerance of ambiguity, resilience and willingness to engage, several times during this course I have been able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Separation Of Powers Separation of powers, together with the rule of law and parliamentary sovereignty, runs like a thread throughout the constitution of the United Kingdom. The term trias politica or separation of powers was coined by Charles Louis de Secondat, baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, an 18th century French social and political philosopher. His publication, Spirit of the Laws, is considered one of the great works in the history of political theory and jurisprudence, and it inspired the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Constitution of the United States. Under his model, the political authority of the state is divided into legislative, executive and judicial powers. He asserted that, to most effectively promote liberty, these three powers must be separate and acting independently. This assignment discusses whether the doctrine of separation of powers is evident and desirable under the United Kingdom constitution. It also seeks to analyze the rationale and impacts of the separation of powers. In addition, the assignment will examine the advantages and disadvantages of separation of powers and how well it functions under the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the main characteristics of the British constitution is that it has a parliamentary executive, as, by constitutional convention the executive is drawn from the legislature. As ministers sit in the House of Commons, they are directly accountable to Parliament. However, s2 of the House of Commons Disqualification Act 1975 limits the number of minister who can sit in the House of Commons. This clearly shows that ministers can exercise both the role of Parliament and the executive. Moreover, parliamentary executive can also be seen in devolved institutions such as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. • 7. Carotid Dissection Case Study Examples Carotid artery dissection remains to be the least recognized entity among the variety of cardiovascular syndromes (Stapf, Elkind, Mohr, 2000). Dissection of the carotid artery is caused by a tearing of the arterial wall layers, usually the intima from the media. The tear flaps freely in the arterial lumen creating a false lumen, where blood can enter and may form a thrombus (Kupinski, 2013). The weakening of the arterial wall caused by the separation of the layers may also result in a pseudoaneurysm (Schievink, 2001). Although carotid dissection account for less than 2% of all ischemic strokes, they are the leading cause of ischemic strokes affecting all age groups, including children, especially with patients in their fifth decade of life (Schievink, 2001). Most patients may present with minor stroke symptoms with localized pain in the neck or face and some patients may be asymptomatic. The diagnostic goal is to identify these patients prior to an ischemic event. Duplex ultrasound has proven to be a reliable and safe imaging modality that provides accurate diagnostic data for early carotid artery obstructive disease and follow up for dissections. They were not able to participate in any organized sports because they were only designed for men. Women only played sports or participated in any physical activities recreationally and without rules. Obviously, this idea was thought by a man who believed that it is only fair for women to limit their level of physical activity. Coachman had to compete barefoot during her first competition but still manage to break high school and college level high jump records during the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) competitions, finally dominating the AAU competitions. Will the number of drops on the penny until it overflows change if I change the liquid from water to sodium chloride water and by how much will it change? To investigate this, there needs to be variables that are not changed when experimenting. The penny is the dependent variable because it depends on the number of drops to overflow and the drops of the liquid the independent variable as it does not change or depend. The controlled variables include using the same penny, applying the same amount of pressure on the dropper for each drop, the height of the drop that is falling onto the penny, and using the same dropper. In this recent one, how many drops of sodium chloride can a penny hold before it overflows, it turned out to be the penny can hold 31 drops before it overflows. However these results may not be as accurate as they are supposed to be and may only be 80 percent accurate. Evaluation/Analysis The height of the liquid dropping from the dropper may have been from the same height if the hand was resting on the table/desk for each drop of sodium chloride, however the angles the liquid was dropped and where (on which part of the penny) it was dropped may make a difference in results. It may interfere with the amount of force on the water on top of the penny to cause it to move and overflow. Another error may be with the amount of liquid dispersed on the penny each time (in one squeeze of the dropper) which also associates with the amount of force exerted as the dropper was squeezed. A solution this would be to use a dropper than only disperses a certain amount of liquid at a time (the pressure or force of the squeeze does not make a difference to how much liquid is released). This would provide more accurate results and not create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Only 1.9% of people in the National Football League(NFL) are Asian. Only 2.1% of people in Major League Baseball( MLB) are Asian. Worst of all Asians only make up .2% of the National Basketball Association(NBA). Asians are even underrepresented in pop culture. White actors often play the roles of Asians in movies. In the movie Ghost in a Shell The main character Motoko Kusanagi was played by Scarlett Johansson. In the movie Star Trek Into Darkness, the main character Khan Noonien Singh was played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Asians aren t just underrepresented in Hollywood, they are also underrepresented on television. The television series Fresh Off the Boat is the first prime time sitcom, in 20 years since All American girl by Margaret Cho, to feature an Asian American cast. In the United States, we have more than 50 million Asians but they are criminally underrepresented in sports and pop culture. Many Asian kids grow up and don t have many famous people of their same race to look up to. These kids go through their whole life with nobody to look up to. I have a great solution to this problem. My solution would lead to more Asian people in sports. It would lead to more Asian people in pop culture. Most people work long hours and eat on the fly with very little thought to what, or where, the food they have purchased came from. The reason food is so inexpensive has not been a concern to the average American, but the article written by Michael Pollan The Food Movement Rising attempts to convince the people that it is time to remove the blinders and take an accounting of the situation that America finds itself in. Troy duster states that viewed from a middle distance, then, the food movement coalesces around the recognition that todays food and farming economy is unsustainable, [...] that it can t go on in its current form much longer without courting a breakdown of some kind. The original language pertaining to anyone working with computers was first introduced in 1990. An be labeled exempt one would have to be paid an hourly rate and paid no less than six and a half times the minimum wage. In 1996 the rate was adjusted to a fixed rate of $27.63 an hour(U.S. Cong. Small Business). It was only small decrease from the previous rate at the time. But then in 2004 the language was further changed. While it was a small change the impact was huge. Instead of only being exempt if you were paid an hourly rate, you could also now be exempt if you were paid a salary (National Archives and Records 69:79). The minimum salary rate has not changed since then and remains at 455 a week (United States. Dept. of Labor). To now be exempt as a system developer or systems analyst you can either be paid $27.63 per hour or a salary of $455 per week. The difference is in those wages is astounding though. • 19. The Idea Of Self By Derek Parfit The idea of self has for long been the topic of discourse amongst thinkers. The ambiguity of the self has resulted in variants in definitions and meanings, and brought about the question of its very existence. Rene Descartes, in his books First and Second Meditations believed that the existence of self is attributed to the supposition of the self, whereas Derek Parfit in Persons and Reasons was skeptical about the existence of self and believed that we do not have an ultimate identity. In this paper, I will argue that Derek Parfit s views are justifiable as he has provided sufficient reason to his claims on continuity. According to him, the body and its relations are mirages which are uncertain. The only certainty is that nothing is certain. All the more, the fact that he is still experiencing, thinking and doubting himself, whilst being constantly deceived by a supreme power notably affirms his existence. To understand the truth of his identity, he embarks to restrain his mind in the reins of truth, devoid of imagination, to fathom the existence of self. He poses the example of a chunk of wax, with its distinct identity the moment it is taken from a honeycomb. It has features that can be perceived by means of the senses, which broaden the understanding on what the wax is. But as it is placed by the fire, it loses its distinctness. Due to its alteration, the senses can no longer comprehend it. However, it is the same wax that remains which has undergone some alterations from what is was before. He concludes that the nature of the wax is perceived purely by non contingent mental scrutiny. His perusal into the perception of the wax results in the investigation into the nature of his own mind becoming clearer. Descartes arrives at the conclusion that absolute intellect makes up reality, and understanding is fundamentally the derivative of perception. His rational thinking provides the proof of his existence that the mind is a self unto itself. This thinking is not just limited to thought, but also streams of consciousness, experience and emotions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It includes everything from facts about how fast our cities are growing to city as a state of mind. But the section that intrigued me the most was symbolic interactionism and the study of city life. symbolic interactivity means that people are the ones who play an active role in their environment. In other words the area you live in is going to be determined by the way you interact with others and how you live your life. This idea was not one that shocked me but allowed me to grasp a greater understanding as to why different cities are the way they are. For example, i m from a small town in California with little to no crime. It is a pretty affluent area and people are pretty friendly. However you drive about 30 miles and you are now in one of the most dangerous cities in america, Oakland California. Here deadly shootings are a regular basis along with many other crimes. The bees never seem to catch a break which is putting the bees under stress which is a factor. Furthermore, when they are pollinating all these different plants some are not nutritious as others, for example cucumbers aren t as healthy as some of the other plants but there is still a demand for them, so the bees still have to work and eventually become unhealthy if they aren t getting the right nutrients. Another factor is pesticides, which has many different points of view but overall it has come to decided it is not the pesticides themselves that are killing masses of bees but it is lowering their immune system and making it easier for them to get sick, for example with the common parasite Nosema. Nosema is a parasite in the digestive track of the honey bee that attacks the entire hive and can eventually wipe out the whole hive. The effects of the pesticides are ultimately never letting the hives reach their maximum potential, which in the end could render the hives weak and lethargic. There are so many pesticides out there it is hard to tell exactly what component in the pesticide is hurting the bees. It is recently found that the inert ingredients used often to boost the effectiveness of the pesticide are actually more harmful than the actual toxic ingredients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The president of Taggart Transcontinental, James, did not inquire in any means about this schedule, and was abruptly awoken in the middle of the night by Dr. Morrison himself through an angry telegram. James was highly intimidated by Morrison s words and called Locey to tell him to fix the situation immediately as well as to tell Locey that he was never called in the night when Dagny was in control. These words from James support, once again, the concept that he relies on more competent individuals of society, and how he does not take responsibility when it is necessary. The words that James said to Locey also imply that the success of Taggart Transcontinental was completely due to Dagny, and how she ran the company. This point is magnified in the following actions taken by James once he finds out that the Taggart Tunnel has collapsed, as well as the explosion between the diesel engine train and the Army Munitions killed everyone on board. James immediately contacts Dagny though her assistant Eddie, and then he destroys Dagny s resignation letter once she arrives at Taggart Transcontinental. James actions are seen as highly manipulative, as well as irresponsible. The book is about Mary Stuart and her life as a queen and also as a prisoner. It tells of the hardships she had went through and the good times too. To me the book mostly over sees the hardships Mary had went through. Like having to leave her home land when she was an infant to having her throne taken away by her own son that disowned her. She had three husbands that all left her as a widow. While the book is about Mary s life it also tells a lot about others too. I did not like the book because I felt as though it was repetitive in some parts and also it was not as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I do believe that if people besides me that were interested in it, it would be very successful book, but to me I would not purchase or read this book again. Second of all, the book is all about Mary s life from birth to her unfair death. The author often tells about the fighting between the Protestants and Catholic Church. It also tells of her three husbands and her many lovers threw her life. Dementia is ...a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality disorders, and impaired reasoning (Google search, dementia definition). Another thing, I don t think institutions where it is allowed/encouraged to have sex should be allowed. What if that person has a loved one(s) at home that STILL HAVE A RELATIONSHIP GOING!?!? I understand that intimacy with a person when someone has Dementia can help with the mental disorder, but I just don t think that it seems fair to his/her son/daughter(s) or husband/wife at home who wait all day and night to hear or worries from that person(Dr. Pepper Schwartz, What are our rights when we re not ourselves any more?). I understand how some people may think that humans with Dementia should be able to consent to having sex, but think of it as if, a person is using another person because of their disability. (l.10) and his soul climbing to heaven to live ?amid a crowd of stars? (l.12). In the last verse of When you are Old, William Butler Yeats uses personification of love to enhance the image of the late lover waiting for the elderly woman. Lines 10 12 ?Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled, and paced upon the mountains overhead and hid his face amid a crowd of stars? give personal qualities to love. By capitalizing love, it becomes its own being, which waits impatiently, hence pacing the mountain. Yeats gives love a face hidden in the stars. The ?face? is love?s distinguishing characteristics, such as tenderness and sensitivity. The conclusion of When You are Old leaves the woman smiling to herself over the memories she has. She knows that one day she will be reunited with her true love, so she can live the remainder of her life peacefully. I personally love this poem. The Brown House , a short story within Yamamoto s novel, Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories, depicts the three themes that were previously mentioned above. The auteur John Cassavetes wrote and directed this film that was released in November of 1974. Cassavetes spent most of his career creating films that were more off the grid ; A Woman Under the Influence is a prime example considering there was no other American film quite comparable to it. This was a rare film because the internal fluctuations effectively allowed formulating of the primary configurations. John Cassavetes rejected the elements and techniques of the American movie and created his own method (LoBrutto). Cassavetes is known to be the pioneer of American independent film. Independent filmmaking is difficult to establish an exact definition mostly because it does not follow a set of specific guidelines. Conversely independent films are commonly designated to be character driven, and these were the films that frequently had an extremely low budget. A Woman Under the Influence and some of Cassavetes other films demonstrate in a similar form of bstylistic characterizations of post World War II European film. Records have been and always will continue to be recorded for centuries. Earthquakes are recorded by instruments called seismographs. The recording that they make is called a seismogram. These drum sized tubes of decades of earthquakes are more than likely stored in science labs. Earthquakes however, are the releasing of stored energy from plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of 7 massive pieces of rock called continents. They build up energy from pressurized rock that is pushed against each other. It can be a parent, a priesthood leader, a teacher, or ultimately God. A proud person hates the fact that someone is above him. He thinks this lowers his position (Ezra Taft Benson). The book of Jonah is based off of a man who disobeys God. Jonah disobeys God because he was already aware of how the people of Ninevah would react to the word of God that he came to share. The Book of Jonah can be used as a piece of art that describes the late 5th to early 4th century in Nineveh. Chapter two discusses the Trinity, and how even though there are three parts he is a personal God. Chapter three addressed God with time. God is not in the past or future, but he is in the present. Chapter four sets up the chapter with an image of two books stacked on each other. These books are a symbol of God as a father and as a son, and along with this he discusses God s love for us. Chapter eight discusses if Christianity is hard or easy. I found this chapter to appeal to me most because it is something I am very passionate about. During all three of my group s meetings I have discussed how throughout the book C.S Lewis made it a point to recognize that Christianity is not a walk in the park. C. S Lewis says in chapter 8, The Christian way is different: harder, and easier. Christ says Give me All. I don t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you (pg. 196). I think this quote sums up Christianity because it is not about if your walk with the Lord is easy or hard because everyone s faith is different. At the end of the day the Lord wants all of you and it is as simple as that. Along with this C.S Lewis tied in a lot of imagery throughout the chapters of this book. He brings imagery with the books, the to soldiers, and by referencing the story of Beauty and the Beast.BY using this imagery C.S Lewis was able to captivate the reader s attention. A community is a collection of said individuals, with common interests and values, who take up community responsibilities to ensure that the collection holds objective standards that are beneficiary to all. Even though these concepts are intrinsically linked, in that one cannot survive without the other, there is often a desire to separate them and define where one ends and the other begins. In The Apology, Socrates presents his defense to his jurors when on trial for teaching nontraditional philosophies and, allegedly, affecting the community adversely. In this account, Socrates explains that his behavior stems from a prophecy by the oracle at Delphi which claimed that he was the wisest of all men. Recognizing his ignorance in most worldly affairs, Socrates concluded that he must be wiser than other men only in that he is aware of his own lack of knowledge. In order to spread this peculiar wisdom, Socrates explains that he considers it his duty to question supposed wise men and to expose their false wisdom as ignorance. In a famous passage, Socrates says that God specially appointed him to the city, as though it were a large thoroughbred horse which because of its great size is inclined to be lazy and needs the stimulation of some stinging fly (The Apology, 30e).
