Environmental Pollution, Cause And Causes Of The Love Canal
In 1890 a massive environmental pollution struck a neighborhood within Niagara falls, New York,
called The Love Canal. The love canal was originally intended to e a model plan community, the love
canal was a residential area before being purchased by the Hooker chemical company. The problem
began after its sale to the local school district project. The toxic waste dumped under grounds affected
the health conditions that lasted a lifetime to numerous families. The neighborhood demolished and
according to the New York state health department was considered a national symbol of a failure to
exercise a sense of concern for future generations. But the worse is that the Love Canal tragedy can
happen again anywhere in the country unless serious matters are taken to prevent it.
It all began in 1890, William T. Love an ambitious entrepreneur dreamed of building a community
filled with parks and residences believing in twould serve the industry with hydroelectricity. In May
1894, work on the canal begun, Love digged the canal along with building some streets and houses.
Unfortunately Love had to abandon the project due to economical disastrous. With the abandoned
project, the canal gradually filled with water. Local children swam there during summer time and

Ross Geller s Friends
Throughout the ten seasons of the television show Friends, one of the main characters, Ross Geller, is
heard correcting his friends over their use of the word who. Ross corrects them on different occasions,
saying it is whom, not who, and he is always met with an annoyed response. When Ross corrects his
friends, including Phoebe Buffay, he is being linguistically prescriptive. Generally, people do not
bother to discern whether they should be using who or whom when they are speaking, they simply use
who, and when Ross tells Phoebe that she is incorrect, he gets a negative response. While Ross is
being linguistically prescriptive, and arguably prejudiced towards his friends for using the incorrect
word, his friends are also being prejudiced towards him, responding poorly when he explains the
prescriptive rule. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stereotyping of Bend It Like Beckham and Billy Elliot
Media
In this essay I will discuss about the stereotyping of Bend it like Beckham and Billy Elliot and the
different cultures. In Bend it like Beckham the mum of the main character doesn t want her to play
football because she is a girl and it isn t honourable for the family. She won t let her play football
because of this but Jess plays football behind her back. In Billy Elliot, the boy starts to dance and the
dad is against boys dancing and says they should be out boxing or playing football. This film was set

In Billy Elliot, there was a lot of stereotyping, mainly towards Billy being a dancer. Billy has an ...

The director uses happy music when Billy dances in front of his dad to make it look like he is fighting
against the stereotyping. When Billy s brother has a go at the teacher when she says that Billy missed
a dance audition, this is stereotyping because the brother has a go at the teacher and says that he would
be embarrassed to have a brother that dances and that he doesn t want a gay for a brother. This is
stereotyping against dancers and gays, because not all dancers are gay, just because they like dancing
and there isn t anything wrong with being gay just as long as u don t try and get other people to join
you. During this part of the film, the director uses sad rock type music to show anger from his brother.
After this part, Billy starts dancing to release his anger, this type of music is also rock too show that
Billy is unhappy. You can also see he is unhappy buy him Trying to climb the wall, which looks like
he is trapped in something and trying to get out of it. Billy seems to express himself in dancing during
the film and release his feeling about things. Dancing seems to be the only thing Billy has. We also see
the stereotyping towards Gays when Billy hits a boy and told him to p*ss off u queer B*stard. This
shows that Billy has a violent side to him and is upset here. We also know that Billy isn t somebody

Ronald Reagan s Presidency
The vision of former United States President Ronald Reagan to create a liberal society and nation
where everyone enjoyed their rights regardless of their personal beliefs came to fulfilment when the
former California governor was voted in as the president of the United States in 1981. Riding on the
back of a political brand known as the New Right , President Reagan championed for a liberal society
that would uphold the rights of the African Americans, the lesbians and gays, women, Latinos and
other minority and marginalized groups. This campaign garnered a lot of support from grass root
activisms who had already been tired by past American politics (Tate, 1991).
President Reagan was seen as a racist president who did not support the development of the black
society. In fact, he was recorded having referred to unemployed black women as welfare queens. In
addition, he also did away with programs that had been set up to improve economic empowerment to
the African American people by training them on how to earn a living. One such program that
President Reagan disbanded was the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) that
offered training to African Americans on how to be more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay The Role And Functions Of New Zealand Government
The New Zealand Government has made significant changes to the economy throughout the last 15
years. The operation and organisation of business activity in New Zealand has been affected by this
changing economy. All aspects of the New Zealand Government have been altered. The reason for this
change was to improve the performance by being more efficient. The key reforms are privatisation and
corporatisation of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and restructuring government agencies.
The most significant change was the election of the Labour Party in 1984, which ended the Muldoon
Administration. At this time, New Zealand was in a rut because of poor economic management by the
previous Government. Unemployment was high in 1983 and still ... Show more content on

Some restructuring and reforms affected these sectors.
The New Zealand Government owned many enterprises such as State Insurance, Air New Zealand,
New Zealand Rail, The Bank of New Zealand, and Telecom. In 1987 most of these assets were sold.
By doing this it meant the Government could pay off large accumulated debts and allow these
companies to become more efficient. After the sale of these SOEs that the New Zealand Government
has become more efficient too, they can focus on their primary task by providing essential services.
Some of these services include public hospitals, education, benefits, and emergency relief.
From the reforms came a radical change in New Zealand trade. In 1984 the Government devalued the
New Zealand Dollar by 20%, then in 1985 introduced a floating exchange rate. Along with that, the
removal of agricultural subsidies and import tariffs. It allowed New Zealand to be a fairer country to
trade with. As a direct result, the trade competitive index jumped from 0.72 on 1985 to 0.98 in 1987.
Foreign investment increased as the New Zealand Dollar strengthened against the green back and the
pound. Consequently, importing and exporting firms benefited from the change in policies.
The services that the New Zealand Government provides have ongoing restructuring (which means
altering an already established department) in the State Sector. The State Sector Act 1988, which

Impact Of Joseph Needham On The Historiography Of Chinese...
This paper examines Joseph Needham s impact on the historiography of Chinese Science and
Technology (S T), arguing that his great achievements were marred by an East/West comparative
approach, and that subsequent historians have only partly overcome these restrictions. His multi
volume Science and Civilization in China (1954 ongoing) single handedly thrust China into the
Western dominated historiography. Organized along the disciplinary lines of modern science,
Needham sought to document every scientific concept and technology invented in China, which he
saw as the origin of most knowledge before Europe s Scientific Revolution. For Needham, science in
China (and India, and the Middle East) was like the river that flowed into the sea of ... Show more

Reviewing Needham s life s work in 1984, famed historian Lynn White, Jr. wrote that Needham
seemed to be doing penance for the Opium War, but that One respects the exaggerations of a lover. For
forty five years Joseph Needham has been in intellectual love with China and the Chinese. Needham
took it as his task to document millennia of Chinese science and technology. Bringing forth thousands
of unknown primary and ignored secondary documents, he created a portrait of imperial China as a
stable and inventive civilization, morally superior the later Western empires. Until the sixteenth
century, he demonstrated, the flow of knowledge and technology had mainly gone from East to West.
The European Enlightenment, Scientific Revolution and Industrial Revolution all stood on the
shoulders of Chinese contributions. It was time, Needham argued, to recognize that the West did not
have a monopoly on science:
Surely it would be better to give more attention to the history and values of these non European
civilization, in actual fact no less exalted and inspiring than our own. Then let us give up that
intellectual pride which boasts that we are the people, and that wisdom was born with us . Let us take

Marketing Metrics For Ironman
Ironman s Marketing Metrics
Sales Metrics Measuring sales growth: According to Klipfolio (2016), a sales growth metric measures
the overall rate at which Arimount s Ironman total sales revenue either increases or decreases. The
sales growth metric is an important metric for measurement, as it will affect all future strategic

Nonetheless, Ironman s initial strategy is to manufacture just two formulations and be marketed to a

What Influences Customers Online Comments
Nunes and Merrihue (2007) make the case that mass advertising still has power even if it is harder to
reach large amounts of individuals. They point out that things like TV commercials rose to
prominence because they were bottlenecks where a captive audience could be found. There are still
bottlenecks today, and where these are to be found, there remain opportunities for marketers to utilize
mass advertising. These can include elevators, airplanes and restrooms. They point out some other
techniques as well. One is the Trojan horse, where ads are on items that are commonly seen such as
coffee cups. Ads found in unusual places are also more easily remembered. Targeting people at play is
also suggested, such as placing beer ads on golf carts.
Schultz (2007) has some suggestions for improving a company s marketing. The first is to improve
marketing capabilities, especially the functionality of marketing in an interactive marketplace. The
second is to improve the customer focus, aligning the organization s tactics with its customer s needs.
The third is to develop marketing and communications synergies. He argues that many companies
develop adverstising, sponsorships and public relations independently, when they should be part of a
unified, coordinated effort. The fourth is to develop better measures and metrics, as these will improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing strategy. The fifth is understanding social and economic
networks to better reach the target

Criminal Law
Doctrine of vicarious liability
The doctrine of vicarious liability generally operates within the law of torts. It has become well
established in English law and historically has been called Master and Servant liability, which clearly
indicates the circumstances in which the doctrine becomes applicable in tort law.
The general rule in tort law is that a person who authorises a tort will personally be liable for damage
or harm as a result. However, vicarious liability defines the circumstances in which a person is liable
for the torts of another without express authorisation or ratification. The most common example of
vicarious liability is the liability of an employer for the torts of his employees committed in the course

In the Court of Appeal case of Mattis v. Pollock (t/a Flamingos Nightclub) a nightclub owner was held
vicariously liable for the violent acts of an employed doorman. The Court of Appeal applied the
rationale of Lister and held that a broad approach was required in assessing whether an individuals
acts were sufficiently connected with the duties of his employment so as to justify imposing vicarious
liability.
Vicarious Liability under a statutory duty
An employer can also be held vicariously liable for an employee s breach of a statutory duty. This
duty differs to that of a common law duty in that the duty does not rise by operation of common law
principles, but by statute. As such, the statute imposes a duty on the employee personally and makes
no reference to the employer. An employer can be held liable for the breach of a statutory duty even
where the statutory duty is owed by the employee personally and individually. This circumstance
would potentially arise in the context of harassment within the workplace, where one employee has
been harassed or bullied by another see the case of Majrowski v. Guy s and St Thomas s NHS Trust.
However, emphasis will be placed on the intention of the legislature in creating the statute in deciding
whether vicarious liability should be imposed.
Conclusion
Where vicarious liability is imposed on an employer, both the

Shakespeare s Influence on the Audience s Response to Caliban in The Tempest My essay hopes to

Shakespeare influences the audience s response to Caliban using in turn, humour and pathos to make
the audience relate to the various strands of his character. Caliban can be interpreted in many ways,
and only when examining his character as a whole, can we truly understand how Shakespeare wanted
us to interpret him. I will now further examine how he accomplishes this. Our first introduction to

Would t had been done. / Thou didst prevent me I had peopled else / This isle with Calibans. Instantly
the suggested terrible action becomes comical at the thought of hundreds of little Calibans running
over the isle. Again Caliban wins the day. His lack of contrition, his lewd and bawdy behaviour and
insolence in the face of authority would have hugely appealed to the uneducated groundling audience
of Shakespeare s theatre. Caliban s savagery is contrasted with his eloquence when he talks about
things he loves, such as music, Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments / Will hum about mine
ears; and sometime voices, / That if I had waked from a long sleep, / Will make me sleep again. He
speaks with eloquence equal to the words of Prospero, a Duke. This makes the audience see him in a
civilised light and makes them question Prospero s treatment. Shakespeare uses poetry to show how
much Caliban values the nature and simple things, that the mercenary elements in the audience would
not appreciate. Caliban thinks nothing of riches or the glistening apparel that Ariel presents him with,
Let it alone, thou fool, it is but trash. The audience might perceive this in two ways: They might

Comparing Star Trek Into Darkness And The Vulcan Culture
The movie Star Trek into Darkness is a futuristic Sci fi fantasy movie about the people of the Star Trek
Enterprise. The Star Trek Enterprise is very similar to NASA in the sense of they want to explore

two characters is that one is a human and one is half human and half vulcan. Emotional expression is
not common in the Vulcan culture meaning it s not as normal to show much emotion in their culture.
Vulcan do have emotions but they are very controlled so they are almost portrayed as robotic people.
Though Spock is half human he usually takes after the Vulcan side meaning he is more on the left
hemisphere of thinking. This means he is more logical in his thinking and less on the creative right
hemisphere. This becomes a increasing problem throughout the series. In the beginning of the movie

Kant s Categorical Imperative For Moral Knowledge
Kant s Categorical Imperative outlines a significant section of his ethics, concerning the search for
moral knowledge. This is a mechanism used in accordance with knowing how we ought to act, rather
than how we act instinctively through desires and appetites. The identification of the Categorical
Imperative is found through rationality and indeed must be equally applicable for all reasonable
human beings. Within this essay, I will initially outline Kant s first formulation of the Categorical
Imperative then proceed to show that its credibility as an account of moral obligation is lacking.
On account of Kant s first formulation of the Categorical Imperative; the Formula of the Universal
Law of Nature, certain decisions can only be made if they, act only on that maxim through which you
can at the same tie will that it should become a Universal Law . Understanding a maxim as a principle
or rule on which you take action, for example: I will make it my maxim only to act in a respectful
manner toward my parents. The idea is that rules that cannot be maintained for a number of means
should be discarded, as a moral obligation is an obligation for all. It is obvious to all that in order for a
principle to have any force in regard to morality, it must carry with it absolute necessity (1898:130). If
not, the obligation itself, as Kant declares, is easily doubted. Empirical ethics isn t sufficient. An
example commonly used refers to the instruction, thou shalt not lie . In that,

Parliamentary Sovereignty Is No Longer, If It Ever Was...
Parliamentary sovereignty is no longer, if it ever was, absolute (Lord Hope). Discuss with reference to
at least three challenges to the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. Parliamentary sovereignty is the
concept that Parliament has the power to repeal, amend or create any law it wishes and therefore no
body in the UK can challenge its legal validity. There are many people who would argue that this is a
key principle to the UK Constitution, on the other hand, there are those who strongly believe that this
idea is one of the past, and that the idea of the UK Parliament being sovereign is false. One of these
people is Lord Hope, who said Parliamentary sovereignty is no longer, if it ever was, absolute . During
the last 50 years there have been a variety of developments that have proved to be a challenge for the
legitimacy of parliamentary sovereignty, and the ones which will be examined in this essay are: the
devolution of powers to the Scottish Parliament; The United Kingdom s entry into the European
Union in 1973; and finally the power of judicial review. Starting with the devolution of powers, these
challenges will all be evaluated when discussing whether or not the doctrine of parliamentary
sovereignty applies to the United Kingdom. Westminster s sovereignty has been gradually diminishing
over time as varying amounts of power have been devolved to Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

The Spiral Road Summary
The Spiral Road is a perceptive series bringing together the humanistic view of the rise of the People
Republic of China. Usually history is dictated, but Huang s ethnographic work is not just another text
of narration. Huang makes the readers know history should be concerned with the people involved, as
much as it looks at the overarching politics. The book can be considered a series of stories that
staunchly describes the continuing revolution innate to the countryside of the PRC by this time in the
late 1990 s. Huang s relationship with Ye, the local party leader, and both of their spirit in storytelling,
one for work and another for self gratification, provides the book with an appropriate framework.
Huang immerses himself in a culture that is isolated, but it is slowly opening up to the rest of the
world. As a scholar his work is remarkable in bringing light to the peasantry, who feed the
development of China from bottom up. However, Huang s adaptation of Secretary Ye s voice skews
his work towards subjectivity or bias that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

government. However, in the midst of the book foreseeing the Cultural Revolution is overshadowed
by Ye s tone describing his earlier political activism after end of Shaoqi s rule, where his military aims
transformed to a menial local post in his home village as a result of the Four Cleanup movement.

Foster Care As A Temporary Solution Essay
Foster care is one of the major issues still faced in this world today. According to Crosson Tower
(2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children
from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was renounced
because agencies advocating foster care argued that it would lead to foster parents taking children for
money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the practice of paying for foster
care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and administering the foster care
system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated foster care became progressively
more common as the form of caring where the parents were unable to care for their children. Although
foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the nature of foster care today shows the complete
opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization that will be discussed in this paper is going to
expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy efforts to combat the issue.

The Founding And Spread Of Buddhism, Hinduism,...
Often in history, when something is done right and praised by the masses, it is mimicked in some way
in future instances. This can be seen in the variety of religions that have sprung up over time and
gained large followings. Although they are all unique in their own way, certain aspects connect them
and allow one to see how they all, in some way, influence each other. When analyzing the founding
and spread of Buddhism, Sikhism, Confucianism, and Hinduism, it is evident that although there are
many distinguishing differences between the four religions, there are multiple similarities that link
them all with each other. The word Buddhism is derived from the word budhi , to awaken, so it makes
sense that the creation of the religion begins with its founder s awakening. It is said that Buddhism
started in the 6th century due to the actions of its founder, Siddhartha Gautama, the wealthy warrior
son of a king and queen in Lumbini (now Nepal). When Siddhartha was young, a soothsayer predicted
that he would become a renouncer and his father showered him in luxuries, hoping to change this
prediction. However, as a young man, Siddhartha went on a series of chariot rides in which he
witnessed a variety of suffering people and came to the realization that material pleasures, such as his
own, only serve to mask human suffering. After entering a period of severe and damaging
renunciation and realizing that it only added suffering, Siddhartha meditated under a tree and woke up

The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks Essay
A romantic drama film is a genre that explores the difficult aspects that come with love. The plot
usually includes two people that are in love that can t be together the way they want to be due to
obstacles. The obstacles in a romantic drama film can include a family s disapproval, to forbidden
love, to one s own psychological restrictions. The Notebook is a movie based on a best selling novel
that was written by author Nicholas Sparks. This is a love story that is composed of a series of
obstacles between two young people that are madly in love with each other. It perfectly fits and
displays the criteria for a successful romantic drama film because it includes the complexity of love,
and elicits emotions.
In The Notebook there are countless obstacles between the two main characters that are in love. This
allows the movie to fit into the drama aspect of the genre, displaying the complexity of their love.
Complex love includes the drama, and difficulties of a relationship, while still being closely connected
to the romantic parts of a relationship. This is prevalent in The Notebook. Allie and Noah, played by
well known actors Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, were two people from different social classes.
Allie was from a wealthy, privileged upper class family while Noah was making around 40 cents an
hour at a lumber yard job. While love is not confined to the amount of money that each person has, in
the 1940 s, which is the setting of the movie, social class played an

In a study of 79 students, it has been found that the ability to avoid biases as measures of critical
thinking was correlated with more than the traditional laboratory measure of how to measure critical
thinking, and found that the ability to reason logically was due to prior and already experienced logic
conflicts that involved prior beliefs (Stanovich, Toplak West, 2008). It has been said that decision
making can be processed into focused attention to what may be a relevant aspect in how some
decisions can be problematic and damaging to ones self esteem, finances, family life, social life, work
life, and love life (Böhm Pfister, 2008). Heuristics Heuristics are general decision making strategies
that people use which are based on not a lot of information, yet sometimes seem to show a better
outcome of making correct decisions (Shah Oppenheimer, 2008). Heuristics are mental short cuts that
greatly help and reduce cognitive burdens associated with conscious and controlled decision making

several ways (Shah Oppenheimer, 2008). Heuristics offers decision makers the ability to scrutinize
signals and alternative choices in decision making. Heuristics also diminishes work of influential and

China And Japan s Influence On The Western Civilization
China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and Japan
reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China s reactions to the West that would break the
Chinese s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the United
States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind

My core personality colors were both the colors red and white, which is odd since their core motives
are almost opposites, red being power, white being peace. As I read further into the book, I found that
when I am surrounded by other people with white personality colors, my red personality color will
come out, and lead the group with confidence and precision. But, when I am surrounded with a group
of red or yellow personality colors, my white personality would show, and I tend to close off and want
to be left alone by the others. By understanding this concept, I try to plan accordingly by choosing
groups that contains people with white personality traits. By doing this, it helps me have a better
learning experience and gives me the ability to experience leadership. Furthermore, I now understand
that when other people try to take over the situation and try to order me to do something, that causes
me to be more angry and stubborn. Realizing this ahead of time, I make sure that I prepare myself to
be acceptable to other people s points of view and suggestions, no matter how much my red
personality wants to take control of the situation. Overall, I apply the personality concepts to myself
by planning ahead of time to avoid situations that may bring negative consequences, and knowing
when I might get mad, so I can also avoid conflict. Especially when interacting with others for school
projects, I realize what situations cause me to want to take over and possible step on other people s
toes. Identifying these situations help me to let others have a chance to learn and experience things,
rather than taking over. In conclusion, the Color Code can improve success in the future by helping to
avoid conflict, having an understanding of others, and how to be more considerate toward other people

Icarus Research Paper
One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their orders.
Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience as it
allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology. This
anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even Shakespeare s
Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of disobedience; however,
there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the ancient Greeks predicted the risks of
entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a
labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great
inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew
too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he flew too low the water would splash up and soak the
wings causing him to fall. After only a few minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the
excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a result the wings melt and he falls to his death. The
story of Daedalus and Icarus centers on the desire to explore despite inherent teachings that stress the
importance of following rules.
The first evidence of the story of Icarus existing comes from an ancient piece of pottery

The Legend About The Vampires And Their Secret Life
The legend about the vampires and their secret life is one that keeps on frightening and
captivate the audience around the world. The thought of an undead night stalker that nourishes
on human blood has been around for quite a long time and perseveres right up till modern days.
The image of the immortal creature has perfectly fitted into the modern popular culture. Various
nations and societies over the globe have individual deviations of a comparative folkloric
substance. Regardless of the variety, all vampire stories have a key shared characteristic the
desire for human blood and immortality. It was not until the late XIX century that an Irish writer
agreed an expansiveness of learning on such folkloric stories and devised the character that now
goes about as the format for the vampire myth. Bram Stoker s Dracula was initially distributed in
1897 and starting now and into the foreseeable future the author s title character set the point of
reference for every single anecdotal vampire. Vampire fiction, in any case, keeps on developing
and enrapture in spite of the way that it draws from a limitless folkloric and scholarly past.
Humankind has dependably been intrigued with the charm of immortality and albeit initially
vampires were not an image of this, as time passed and society changed so did the thoughts and
discernments encompassing them.
The human interest with vampires has been a noticeable swaying topic in popular culture.

their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve each of their dreams, gain more
knowledge and globally expand networks. The first essential freedom that Roosevelt discussed was
the right to freedom of speech. This freedom gave people the right to express themselves while
omitting any caution, The people may also challenge laws that they believe infringe upon their right to
freedom of expression (author? 64). This freedom crosses into gray matter where the internet is

Katy Perry s The Song Fireworks Essay
Katy Perry takes a similar approach by creating a song that allows people to be the way they are. Katy
Perry had created the song Fireworks. This song is an inspirational song that allows people to reveal
themselves to the true world instead of keeping it a secret. Katy is trying to portray the fact that people
should not be afraid to represent the way they truly are. She wants everyone to show his or her true
colors . In a sense, Katy wants to people to embrace what they are. In the first few lines she states, Do
you ever feel like a plastic bag. Drifting through the wind. Wanting to start again (Fireworks). This
part of the song reveals that a lot of people go with the flow. They just follow the norms of society and
do not fight against it. She continues on to talk about how people continue to go with the flow until
she states, Do you know that there s still a chance for you. Cause there s a spark in you (Fireworks).
This portion of the song reveals there is hope even if want to go against the norm. Just a small push is
needed in order to get over the hurdle. Then Katy states, Cause baby you re a firework. Come and
show em what you re worth. Make em go oh, oh, oh! As you shoot across the sky y y (Fireworks).
When you do reveal yourself, it will feel like a huge burden is lifted off your shoulders. Katy is trying
to say to her fans be motivated and keep reaching for the stars. Being unique might be a bad thing, but
don t let their voice reach you.

Julius Caesar Summary
The Roman Senate house was empty. All but one of numerous candles had been blown out, and sitting
by this candle, was the Dictator of Rome, Julius Caesar. Caesar was sitting in his chair of solid marble
when the doors burst open, and there stood two figures hidden by the darkness of midnight. One of the
figures noticeably raised an arm, and for a moment, the world stood still. The figure s hand slightly
moved when suddenly a snap echoed through the room. Consequently, fifty eight men sprinted in and
stood by Caesar s side. The two figures who stood in the door began to march forward with a skip in
their step. As they neared closer to the candle light, Caesar undoubtedly began to recognize some
features of their faces, but could not pinpoint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The guards were as still as a brick wall, not allowing Brutus to escape. You will tell Caesar about me
won t you? said the woman while lowering her dagger. Brutus began to think that she was not going to
kill him, but the moment he second guessed her was his most tragic mistake. When he let down his
guard, the woman slammed her dagger into Brutus leg. He then continued to bleed out, screaming in
agony. The woman and the guards took one last look at Brutus before leaving the tomb. The New
Emperor, Marcus Junius Brutus, was dead. Along with his death, was the death of his Empire, an
Empire that lasted only lasted three short days. Within a week, all deconstruction of the Temple of
Caesar was halted permanently. The Empire had ended and the Republic of Rome reborn. The
population rejoiced the death of their short lived Ex Emperor. The filled the streets, chanting and
singing all throughout the day and night when they heard the news. The Usurper of Rome was gone
from their lives, and along with him, many of their problems disappeared. Rome was now reborn but
no one would ever forget Marcus Junius Brutus. He died... for the greater good of

The Dividing Lien of Plato s Allegory of the Cave Essay
Plato s allegory of the cave, located in Book VII of The Republic is one of the most famous allegories
in which he has created. This simile touches base on a number of philosophical ideas which Plato
developed over the progression of The Republic (Plato, G.M.A Grube, 1993), the most noticeable
being the dividing line. The dividing line is the point between the world of ideas where we live and
the world of the forms which is in the heavens. This allegory of the cave helps people understand the
theory on which philosophy is based. It is also in this Book where the education of the guardians is
outlined. We are asked in Book VII of The Republic to imagine a group of people sitting inside a cave,
with their hands and feet bound. It is by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the prisoner turns his head towards the light of the fire his eyes hurt him and he is confused
because he is unable to see the objects of the shadows he had been subjected to his entire life. It is
because of this pain and confusion that the prisoner wishes to return to the life that he is accustomed
to, and the reality he knows, the world of the shadows. We are asked to envision the stubbornness
displayed by this prisoner to leave the world of the shadows, a stubbornness which causes him to be
dragged into the sunlight. Upon seeing the light of the sun the prisoner is temporarily blinded, unable
to see anything around him, blinding him more than when he was a prisoner of the cave. Eventually
the prisoner s vision adjusts and he is able to see more clearly. His mind will first be able to recognize
the shadows, then moving on to reflections of objects in the water, and lastly the objects themselves.
This new sight leads the prisoner to question the colours and objects around him. He questions what it
is that causes him to being able to see all the things he can, compared to only seeing poor reflections
of objects in the cave. The prisoner eventually concludes that it is the sun which illuminates all around
him and is the source of his sight. This now knowledgeable individual remembers the others who are
still trapped in the cave ignorant to the wonders which lay outside of it. He considers him self lucky to

Ross corrects them on different occasions, saying it is whom, not who, and he is always met with an annoyed response. When Ross corrects his friends, including Phoebe Buffay, he is being linguistically prescriptive. Generally, people do not bother to discern whether they should be using who or whom when they are speaking, they simply use who, and when Ross tells Phoebe that she is incorrect, he gets a negative response. Ronald Reagan Research Paper Outline Title Ronald Reagan s Presidency Name Institution Date Ronald Reagan s Presidency The vision of former United States President Ronald Reagan to create a liberal society and nation where everyone enjoyed their rights regardless of their personal beliefs came to fulfilment when the former California governor was voted in as the president of the United States in 1981. Riding on the back of a political brand known as the New Right , President Reagan championed for a liberal society that would uphold the rights of the African Americans, the lesbians and gays, women, Latinos and other minority and marginalized groups. This campaign garnered a lot of support from grass root activisms who had already been tired by past American politics (Tate, 1991). President Reagan was seen as a racist president who did not support the development of the black society. In fact, he was recorded having referred to unemployed black women as welfare queens. In addition, he also did away with programs that had been set up to improve economic empowerment to the African American people by training them on how to earn a living. The key reforms are privatisation and corporatisation of State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and restructuring government agencies. After the sale of these SOEs that the New Zealand Government has become more efficient too, they can focus on their primary task by providing essential services. Some of these services include public hospitals, education, benefits, and emergency relief. From the reforms came a radical change in New Zealand trade. This paper examines Joseph Needham s impact on the historiography of Chinese Science and Technology (S T), arguing that his great achievements were marred by an East/West comparative approach, and that subsequent historians have only partly overcome these restrictions. His multi volume Science and Civilization in China (1954 ongoing) single handedly thrust China into the Western dominated historiography. Organized along the disciplinary lines of modern science, Needham sought to document every scientific concept and technology invented in China, which he saw as the origin of most knowledge before Europe s Scientific Revolution. Until the sixteenth century, he demonstrated, the flow of knowledge and technology had mainly gone from East to West. The European Enlightenment, Scientific Revolution and Industrial Revolution all stood on the shoulders of Chinese contributions. They point out that things like TV commercials rose to prominence because they were bottlenecks where a captive audience could be found. There are still bottlenecks today, and where these are to be found, there remain opportunities for marketers to utilize mass advertising. These can include elevators, airplanes and restrooms. They point out some other techniques as well. One is the Trojan horse, where ads are on items that are commonly seen such as coffee cups. Ads found in unusual places are also more easily remembered. Targeting people at play is also suggested, such as placing beer ads on golf carts. Schultz (2007) has some suggestions for improving a company s marketing. The first is to improve marketing capabilities, especially the functionality of marketing in an interactive marketplace. The second is to improve the customer focus, aligning the organization s tactics with its customer s needs. The third is to develop marketing and communications synergies. He argues that many companies develop adverstising, sponsorships and public relations independently, when they should be part of a unified, coordinated effort. The fourth is to develop better measures and metrics, as these will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing strategy. The fifth is understanding social and economic networks to better reach the target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the Court of Appeal case of Mattis v. Pollock (t/a Flamingos Nightclub) a nightclub owner was held vicariously liable for the violent acts of an employed doorman. The Court of Appeal applied the rationale of Lister and held that a broad approach was required in assessing whether an individuals acts were sufficiently connected with the duties of his employment so as to justify imposing vicarious liability. Vicarious Liability under a statutory duty An employer can also be held vicariously liable for an employee s breach of a statutory duty. This duty differs to that of a common law duty in that the duty does not rise by operation of common law principles, but by statute. As such, the statute imposes a duty on the employee personally and makes no reference to the employer. An employer can be held liable for the breach of a statutory duty even where the statutory duty is owed by the employee personally and individually. This circumstance would potentially arise in the context of harassment within the workplace, where one employee has been harassed or bullied by another see the case of Majrowski v. Guy s and St Thomas s NHS Trust. However, emphasis will be placed on the intention of the legislature in creating the statute in deciding whether vicarious liability should be imposed. The contrast to these two characters is that one is a human and one is half human and half vulcan. Emotional expression is not common in the Vulcan culture meaning it s not as normal to show much emotion in their culture. Vulcan do have emotions but they are very controlled so they are almost portrayed as robotic people. Though Spock is half human he usually takes after the Vulcan side meaning he is more on the left hemisphere of thinking. This means he is more logical in his thinking and less on the creative right hemisphere. This becomes a increasing problem throughout the series. In the beginning of the movie Spock in sent to stop a volcano for erupting and killing a undeveloped civilization. Things go wrong and he ends up being stuck in the Volcano. He accepts ... • 24. Kant s Categorical Imperative For Moral Knowledge Kant s Categorical Imperative outlines a significant section of his ethics, concerning the search for moral knowledge. This is a mechanism used in accordance with knowing how we ought to act, rather than how we act instinctively through desires and appetites. The identification of the Categorical Imperative is found through rationality and indeed must be equally applicable for all reasonable human beings. Within this essay, I will initially outline Kant s first formulation of the Categorical Imperative then proceed to show that its credibility as an account of moral obligation is lacking. On account of Kant s first formulation of the Categorical Imperative; the Formula of the Universal Law of Nature, certain decisions can only be made if they, act only on that maxim through which you can at the same tie will that it should become a Universal Law . Understanding a maxim as a principle or rule on which you take action, for example: I will make it my maxim only to act in a respectful manner toward my parents. The idea is that rules that cannot be maintained for a number of means should be discarded, as a moral obligation is an obligation for all. It is obvious to all that in order for a principle to have any force in regard to morality, it must carry with it absolute necessity (1898:130). If not, the obligation itself, as Kant declares, is easily doubted. Empirical ethics isn t sufficient. An example commonly used refers to the instruction, thou shalt not lie . In that, ... Parliamentary sovereignty is the concept that Parliament has the power to repeal, amend or create any law it wishes and therefore no body in the UK can challenge its legal validity. There are many people who would argue that this is a key principle to the UK Constitution, on the other hand, there are those who strongly believe that this idea is one of the past, and that the idea of the UK Parliament being sovereign is false. One of these people is Lord Hope, who said Parliamentary sovereignty is no longer, if it ever was, absolute . During the last 50 years there have been a variety of developments that have proved to be a challenge for the legitimacy of parliamentary sovereignty, and the ones which will be examined in this essay are: the devolution of powers to the Scottish Parliament; The United Kingdom s entry into the European Union in 1973; and finally the power of judicial review. Starting with the devolution of powers, these challenges will all be evaluated when discussing whether or not the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty applies to the United Kingdom. Usually history is dictated, but Huang s ethnographic work is not just another text of narration. Huang makes the readers know history should be concerned with the people involved, as much as it looks at the overarching politics. The book can be considered a series of stories that staunchly describes the continuing revolution innate to the countryside of the PRC by this time in the late 1990 s. Huang s relationship with Ye, the local party leader, and both of their spirit in storytelling, one for work and another for self gratification, provides the book with an appropriate framework. Huang immerses himself in a culture that is isolated, but it is slowly opening up to the rest of the world. According to Crosson Tower (2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was renounced because agencies advocating foster care argued that it would lead to foster parents taking children for money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the practice of paying for foster care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and administering the foster care system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated foster care became progressively more common as the form of caring where the parents were unable to care for their children. Although foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the nature of foster care today shows the complete opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization that will be discussed in this paper is going to expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy efforts to combat the issue. This can be seen in the variety of religions that have sprung up over time and gained large followings. When analyzing the founding and spread of Buddhism, Sikhism, Confucianism, and Hinduism, it is evident that although there are many distinguishing differences between the four religions, there are multiple similarities that link them all with each other. The word Buddhism is derived from the word budhi , to awaken, so it makes sense that the creation of the religion begins with its founder s awakening. It is said that Buddhism started in the 6th century due to the actions of its founder, Siddhartha Gautama, the wealthy warrior son of a king and queen in Lumbini (now Nepal). When Siddhartha was young, a soothsayer predicted that he would become a renouncer and his father showered him in luxuries, hoping to change this prediction. Analysis Of The s Romeo And Juliet Peter Smith Angela Wood Disc 1313 April 20, 2015 Icarus Research Paper One of the biggest issues parents deal with every day is making sure their children obey their orders. Although it seems like a simple task to adults, many young teens take pride in disobedience as it allows them to feel independent. This goes back to the phenomenon of reverse psychology. This anomaly is revealed in numerous ancient tales such as the forbidden fruit, and even Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Ovid s myth Daedalus and Icarus is yet another example of disobedience; however, there is much more to it than that. Well before the first flight, the ancient Greeks predicted the risks of entering into the realm of the gods (Rogers). Daedalus and his son, Icarus, wanted to escape a labyrinth that they were trapped in. Knowing they couldn t escape by land or sea, Daedalus, a great inventor, fabricated two sets of wings with wax and feathers. He warned his son Icarus that if he flew too high the sun would melt the wings, or if he flew too low the water would splash up and soak the wings causing him to fall. After only a few minutes of flight Icarus becomes engulfed by the excitement of flight and continues to ascend. As a result the wings melt and he falls to his death. Roosevelt s four freedoms became the lifeline of every citizen. Each of these freedoms have become a basic human fact. These freedoms became the backbone of the United States and are also included in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (author? 64). All citizens have been given the chance to make their own decisions and increase their quality of life. Everyone is given the tools to be able to achieve each of their dreams, gain more knowledge and globally expand networks. She continues on to talk about how people continue to go with the flow until she states, Do you know that there s still a chance for you. Cause there s a spark in you (Fireworks). This portion of the song reveals there is hope even if want to go against the norm. Just a small push is needed in order to get over the hurdle. Then Katy states, Cause baby you re a firework. Come and show em what you re worth. Make em go oh, oh, oh! As you shoot across the sky y y (Fireworks). When you do reveal yourself, it will feel like a huge burden is lifted off your shoulders.
