Methods Of Communication
Review your current methods of communication. Discuss areas such as using slang or text
abbreviations that could take away from your professional image. My current method of
communication is a little bit of everywhere. When it comes to texting friends or family members I
always talk slang or if I do talk professional with them I tend to abbreviate my words to send the text
back fast if I m in a rush to send the message Like for example when I say talk to you later I tend to
say TTYL. When I talk to friends or family on the phone I tend to do the same thing to where I slang
my words like for example I would say was up instead of what s up. When I talk on the phone with
someone that s a professional at a company I would tend to drop the ball

Nurse Driven, Sleep Hygiene Protocol, A Source Of Anxiety...
The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this
inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound
healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of
quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in
improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling
routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the
grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore,
will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by
promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the
concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with
other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of
2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID
Journals.
Keywords: ICU, intensive care unit, critical care, quiet time, noise, and nursing. Quiet Time in the
ICU
One of the top three sources of anxiety and stress for patients during an intensive care unit (ICU) stay
is the inability to sleep (Kamdar, Needham, Collop, 2012). There is

The Myth Of Co-Sex Marriage In Andrew Sullivan s For Gay...
In the article, For Gay Marriage, author Andrew Sullivan claims that without the right to marry that
heterosexuals possess, homosexuals are denied equality. Sullivan argues that withholding this right
will not prevent homosexual relationships; instead, it would be a measure simply to restrict the same
right heterosexuals enjoy. Not allowing these homosexual couples to marry and prove their love to
each other would prevent gay adolescents from having role models in which they can learn how a
committed homosexual relationship could be. In the article, The Myth of Co Parenting: How It Was
Supposed to Be. How It Was., author Hope Edelman exhumes that marriage is not equal, and that
women are naive to believe that it is. She also examines the faults in heterosexual marriage and how
they are blighted by falsehoods and poor relationships between parents and their children. Though
they defend two different groups of people, Sullivan and Edelman would most likely agree with one
another on the redefinitions of marriage, the need to combat society s marital expectations, and the
negative effects marriage currently has on children. Through their articles, Andrew Sullivan and Hope
Edelman give their definitions of marriage. Sullivan offers an ideology from the contemporary West
that . . . marriage has become a way in which the state recognizes an emotional commitment by two
people to each other for life (Sullivan 30), where homosexuals are entitled to the right of equality. He

Examples Of Polite Language In The Giver
Just for a second, imagine a world without war, conflict or grief. Refreshing, right? But it s also a
world without memory, feelings and color, at least in the premise of Lois Lowry s, The Giver. It was
published by HarperCollins in 1993, it shares the same motive of a perfect and utopian society. What
is a perfect society? Is it where people have to be uniform to each other? What is the point having such
a life where you cannot make your own choices?, you cannot have feelings or unable to live with your
own biological parents. There is one thing about the community in the giver, it is very well organized
and no possible war. This is because each member of the community is trained to be polite from

Cell Phone Technology
Cell Phone Technology The cell phone technology that is ever changing by the day was scientifically
invented and born back in the early 1980 s. Science was the main key to the birth of the cell phone
which was put together by the Motorola Company who today is still making cell phones. Before the
cell phone came out the car phone was the first mobile phone which were very large and had to be
hooked up to a briefcase which supplied the power for the mobile phone. Science was the utilized to
create the cell phone and today the use of cell phones has brought literature to the palm of our hands.

Each tower carried the same number of frequencies and as the digital phone came in more cell towers
were being built. Eventually there would be hundreds of cell towers in each city that would be able to

and with that technology we are able to do things on cell phones that we never thought we could do 30
years ago. Over the year the technology and science of cell phone has grown faster than any other
product. The technology has driven the cell phone technology to connections around the world. It has
also connected people like no other communication device. People from around the world are now
communicating and connecting more to family, friends, and others across the country. Not only are

in cell phones is text messaging. The cell phone eventually became more than just a radio telephone

Anne Frank Childhood
Anne Frank was a normal girl in a not so normal time period. She was born in a time of war and
unjust, prejudice and racist thoughts. In a world of hate, she was able to keep her good spirit and faith
in humanity until the end.
Born June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany, Annelise Marie Frank was the youngest in a family of
four. A mother (Edith), a father (Otto) and a sister, (Margot) Anne seemed to have a pretty good life.
She was a citizen of Germany until 1941 when the Nuremberg laws took effect. Her family moved to
Amsterdam in the early 1930 s when Nazis gained control over Germany. When Anne turned 13, on
June 12, 1942, she was given an autograph book. She decided to use it as a diary. In July of that year,
Margot was called to a work camp. The family decided they would go into hiding. July 6, 1942. The
Frank family puts on as many layers as they can, as no Jew would be caught dead with a suitcase.
Anne had Some of the items Anne packed were; her special diary called Kitty , curlers, hankies,
school books and letters from friends and family members. The only clothes Anne was allowed to take

What A Stereotypical Dance World !
What a Stereotypical Dance World! There are many different worlds on this planet we live on called
Earth. Everyone alive lives in some kind of little world of their own. There is the celebrity world, the
Disney World, Wally world , lots of different sports worlds, scholastic worlds, and so many others.
There is a particular world that some live in, and that is the World of Dance. When you are a part of
that world, you literally live and breathe it. Every aspect of the dance culture is wrapped up in that
world. To those looking in from the outside it is beautiful, filled with lights, lovely costumes,
mesmerizing music, and graceful movements.
Perhaps the very first image the general public would see in their mind s eye, upon hearing the word
dancer , is that of a darling little five year old girl in a pretty pink tutu and delicate ballet slippers
stepping into her local dance studio for the first time. Take someone a little deeper into that thought,
and they might see an overly thin, pale sixteen year old young woman, with collarbones and ribs
showing working herself almost to death to earn a minor part in a dance chorus. Suggest that someone
describe a dancer in the height of their career, and you might hear of a Prima Ballerina with the
Moscow Ballet. Ask someone to visualize a dancer in later years, and they might picture an older
woman with a greying bun atop her head, leading a class or perhaps helping younger dancer perfect a
performance, who is likely ailing

Persuasive Essay On A Promise Ring
There are many reasons to give a promise ring. You might want to show the depth of your
commitment to her. The two of you might want to show the world that you re a couple with the intent
to stay together forever. A promise ring can be a pre engagement ring, or it can be the promise to stay
true and pure for each other. There are as many reasons for the exchange or presentation of a promise
ring as there are people who give them to each other.
While some promise rings will be given to the girl or woman in the relationship, other couples will
purchase matching rings or ones that are interconnected to show their bond. We ve included a few
types of rings on this list, so you can decide what kind of ring you d like to have within the

Essay on The Malignant American in Surfacing
The Malignant American in Surfacing
Before traveling through Europe last summer, friends advised me to avoid being identified as an
American. Throughout Europe, the term American connotes arrogance and insensitivity to local
culture. In line with the foregoing stereotype, the unnamed narrator s use of the term American in
Margaret Atwood s Surfacing is used to describe individuals of any nationality who are unempathetic
and thus destructive. The narrator, however, uses the word in the context of her guilt over her abortion
and consequent emotional numbness. The narrator s vituperative definition of American as an
individual who is unempathetic and destructive is largely attributable to the narrator s projection of her
own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotional numbness is the logical cause for such behaviour, as a lack of empathy enables an
individual to act heedless of negative consequences to others.
The narrator s scathing treatment of Americans during the foregoing encounter is representative of the
treatment she affords them throughout Surfacing. Americans are variously described as tapeworms
(129), loon killers (121), analogues to Hitler (129) and attackers (183). Although the narrator
frequently applies the label American to people who she thinks are citizens of the United States (US),
she ultimately divorces the term from nationality. When the narrator discovers that two men who
wantonly killed a heron are Canadian, she states, It doesn t matter what country they re from, my head
said, they re still Americans (129). In the narrator s mind, American is a term describing those who are
emotionally numb and are capable of inflicting pain on others.
Given the intensity of the narrator s feelings about the term American, it clearly has special
significance in her mind. This significance stems from an abortion she underwent as a result of a
relationship with a married man. The effect of the abortion is alluded to when Anna is reading the
narrator s palm: You had a good childhood but then there s this funny break (8). The abortion
traumatised the narrator, leaving her with a

The Greatest Corruption In Soviet Union s The Great Purge
The greatest corruption that was presented by the Soviet Union was the Great Purge. The Great Purge
was a period of time between 1936 and 1938. During this period, Stalin ordered a large scale purge of
all the communist party leaders that he felt were a threat to his uprising. Not only did Stalin banish
some of his party leaders, but he also ordered for the increase in imprisonments, police surveillance
and unnecessary executions. This event is investigated in the novel when the hens refuse to give their

of the hens die, and the rest of the surviving hens concede to Napoleon. Soon after, during a meeting

Canadian Drug Coverage
Addressing Gaps in Canadian Drug Coverage
According to Morgan and Boothe (2016), Canada s medicare system is the only one among developed
countries that has universal public health insurance but does not also have universal prescription drug
coverage. The amount of out of pocket (OOP) spending is an immense burden for many Canadians,
accounting for 34.3% of private expenditures, (Hennessey et al., 2016); and in Ontario, one in three
people do not have employer provided health insurance (Barnes Anderson, 2015). Moreover, cost
related non adherence to prescription drugs is associated with low income households , which may
lead to poorer avoidable outcomes such as: increasing hospital admissions, worsening disease, and
growing overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients that are unable to follow prescriptions as ordered, related to lack of coverage, escalate stress
on the health care system; increasing physician and emergency department visits, which may have
been avoidable if the medications were covered for all Canadians (Lexchin, 2017). There are various
socio political barriers to implementing a universal drug coverage plan in Canada. Primarily, the
federal government s Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), controls prescription and
non prescription prices by making comparisons of across seven selected Organization of Economic Co
Operation and Development (OECD) countries (Tang, Ghali, Manns, 2014). However, these OECD
comparative countries have higher medication prices. In fact, four of the seven OECD countries have
the most expensive prices worldwide; consequently increasing Canadian prescription pricing.
According to Morgan and Boothe (2016), another barrier to universal drug coverage in Canada stems
from pharmacare s initially low place on the policy agenda (p. 249). Healthy public policy
development requires synergy between the public, policy makers, and institutions alike. If universal
drug coverage has less attention than other health policy debates a political change is less likely to
occur (p. 251).
A few key stakeholders include government, physicians, pharmaceutical and insurance companies,
nurses and patients. Firstly, the government plays a significant role in the

What Australopithecus Afarensis Skeleton Known As `` Lucy...
Multiple Choice: 1. (D) Donald Johanson discovered the australopithecus afarensis skeleton known as
Lucy . Lucy was named as such after the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds , as it had been
playing in the expedition camp. Using a famous song to name the skeleton increased public awareness
of early humans and evolution studies. Donald Johanson s discovery allowed researchers a much
better understanding of what australopithecus afarensis looked like. 2. (D) A specialist in the study of
early civilization and early humans is known as a paleoanthropologist. This makes sense as the root of
the word paleoanthropologist is the Greek palaeos (old/ancient), and anthrōpos (man). As such,
paleontologist is a person who studies ancient man, which would cover both early humans and early
civilizations. 3. (B) The recognizable remains of a plant or animal are known as fossils. Unlike

The Handmaid s Tale And Gattaca
A dystopian text is a manifestation of society s deepest fears. How is this explored in The Handmaid s
Tale and Gattaca? A comparison of dystopian texts explores contemporary issues of society and
integrates them into an alien world. The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood illustrates the nature of
society as far from ideal, and the destructive nature of oppression. Similarly, Gattaca by Andrew
Niccol epitomises the characteristics of a dystopian text, by highlighting the subversion of natural
processes, suppression of identity and oppression present in society. Both texts explore similar themes
that reflect a society s deepest fears to the audience dehumanisation. Oppression is a major fret in the
contemporary world. Alluding to Ronald Raegan s policy of supporting the oppressive apartheid in
South Africa, Atwood in The Handmaid s Tale, conveys a society where oppression is accepted
through forced collaboration and a fear of consequences if not followed. Offred s internalised
oppression is evident when she describes that the Handmaids are treated as two legged wombs, that s
all: sacred vessels, ambulatory chalices . This is a metaphor manifesting how the Handmaids come to
accept that their purpose is to produce children and showing Offred s personal oppression and her
willingness to comply with the regime. Gillead also manipulates the Bible as a power tool to
encourage the citizens to remain content with the theocratic nature of society. This is obvious

Trust Infidelity
Life would be significantly different if there were not cheating hearts . In fact, society as a whole
would be very changed without those experiences. Think of television programming. What would a
soap opera be all those couples just being faithful? What would be happening on Desperate
Housewives? How many blues songs would have remained unwritten? Country music would certainly
have to march to a beat of a different drummer. The impact is probably more painful and realistic
when you break it down to a person level.
Each cheating situation has its own twist, but the result is still the same. There is a breach of trust.

Can you accept some responsibility for what happened?
Can both of you ever be 100% committed?
It is incredibly hard to make this relationship work. On the other hand, if you can work through this,
the strength in your relationship becomes rock solid.
Perhaps for some this is just a natural course of events. If the relationship were never based on honesty
and trust infidelity wouldn t be much of a surprise. It still hurts, but many times there are signs along
the way. Maybe it is a way out of a bad situation.
Are there some couples that can survive infidelity? Yes. It is generally connected with a deep religious
conviction or awakening. Those types of beliefs rely on love and forgiveness and can be an asset in
repairing the broken relationship. So perhaps the key to dealing with a cheating heart to go find
religion, get a good counselor, and work it out.

The Ill Treatment Of Native Indians
In A Short History of Indians in Canada, Thomas King explores, for the most part, the ill treatment of
Native Indians in Canada. Two satires by the names of Coyote and the Enemy Aliens and Tidings of
Comfort and Joy, focus on the arrogance of the White men and how their actions affected the society
of Native Indians. Specifically, this essay discusses how their actions contributed to the
dehumanization of Native Indians. This concept of Dehumanization is explored through the hypocrisy
on what is legal and illegal according to the White men, the Native Indians enslaved and treated like
wild animals and reduced to being mere possessions of their White masters .
Firstly, in both these short stories there is a hypocritical view on what is ... Show more content on

Through this quote it is clear that this paper is a legal document that entitles the Coyote to all the
properties of the Japanese Canadians. Is the job more important than being fair? I says (p 56). King
once again emphasizes that even though this document is legal and written in the book of law, it isn t
morally correct as it strips the Japanese Canadians of their basic human rights. The narrator then goes
on to question whether or not the White men are doing the right thing regardless of what the law
states. In Tidings of Comfort and Joy, Hudson who represents the White man has an obsession of
gathering Indians as collectibles, a form of enslavement which is legally allowed however once again
is not morally correct. The text states, And while most everyone had since moved to newer
enthusiasms such as exotic pets, rain forest acreages and internet stocks, Hudson stayed the course and
had, over the years, put together one of the more impressive collections of Indians east of Saskatoon
(p 6 7). This quote ridiculously defends Hudson s obsession of collecting Indians who are humans as

Crazy Horse Lur. Dorris s Crazy Horse Malt Liquor
The Hopi tribe is neglected of the recognition of their peaceful lifestyle due to stereotypical ideals that
suggest Native Americans are savages. The Hopi tribe are peace loving people who have kept their
culture intact due to the large part of living in isolated areas of Northeastern Arizona (Warpaths). What
kept the Hopi tribe alive was living in isolation, this means that the Hopi Tribe wanted to be left alone,
this also suggests that the Hopi tribe did not want to be involved in conflict. In fact, the Hopi strived
towards being in a state of total reverence and respect for all things, to be at peace with these things,
and to live in accordance with the instructions of Maasaw, the Creator or Caretaker of Earth. The Hopi
observed their traditional ceremonies for the benefit of the entire world. Some people who oppose the
fact that Native Americans are not savages and are human beings suggest that they are savage hunters
who hunt and kill people impulsively, which is untrue because they preferred being isolated to avoid
conflict with other tribes or military who wanted to hurt their people. In Crazy Horse Malt Liquor
Dorris brings to light the issue of the bottle having a native beside a Pony soldier, the enemy of the
natives that massacred their people. This disrespect of culture is uncivilized because the manufacturers
of the Crazy Horse Malt Liquor bottle neglect the natives suffering. It will place a dense and civilized

Prejudice And Discrimination Essay
A lot of people understand and have gone through stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. Social
Psychologists make a distinction between these by concentrating on either they include emotions,
understanding, or attitudes. Racism is the influence, or reaction, visible feature of this triad. Racism
includes a contradicting approach into individuals situated on their association in a specific
organization. The psychological visible feature is stereotyping. Stereotypes are feelings concerning the
characteristics of specific crowds or associates of those organizations. Prejudice includes attitudes.
Discrimination is bad attitude toward people or organizations established on assumptions and feelings
towards those organizations. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Societal beginnings of racism associate the averages in our surroundings, the rivalry that lives
amongst organizations, and the societal unevenness that survive in our planet. For the reason that
classifying occurs commonly and is a beneficial utensil in a lot of forms, every person s civilization is
expected to acquire stereotypes. Ingroup partiality directs to mismatched treatment of the ones that we
have classified just as the outgroup. As well as outgroup uniformity partiality blocks our view on the
dissimilarities inside the outgroup.
Yet our understanding about the traits of these outgroups and how solid our racism is counts on the
specific civilization in which we live in. Racism and stereotypes bear beginnings in the pattern of our
societal organizations. Humans are taught bad behaviors against organizations by acquiring the
standards of their societal background. We are taught from our associates on which stereotypes are
suitable. When participants in one study were led to believe that their stereotypes were different from
those of their peers, those stereotypes were transformed to be more in connection with associate
stereotypes.
Assuming that our societal standards inform us that something on how racist we have to be against
specific organizations. Social norms dictate that we dislike child abusers, terrorists, and members of
the Ku Klux Klan. And these groups are groups we have strong prejudices toward. On

Romeo And Juliet Conflicts
There are no rewards or punishments only consequences , this was said by writer, professor, and priest
William Ralph Inge. Romeo and Juliet has great lessons everyone can learn from. The two main
characters seem to be a little lost in their love for each other in this long twisted play where nothing
seems to go right. The story shows that secrets lead to more problems and that lying just brings more
trouble to a person. William Shakespeare wrote this play, named The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet,
which tells of a love story between Romeo and Juliet and how it affected family, friends, and enemies.

Family has a big impact on teenagers, but friends had more impact on Romeo and Juliet. Romeo does
not have many friends besides his mentors and his cousins, they definitely have more of an impact on
Romeo and Juliet than their parents had on them. Friar, a priest, which is considered a friend of
Romeo marries Romeo and Juliet in secret, which he could have just told them to rethink this whole
thing, but he decided to marry them anyways (2.6.35 38). Friar also decides to give Juliet a potion to
knock her out for about three days so she can run away with Romeo, but this just causes more
problems which leads to the deaths of Romeo, Juliet, and Paris. Juliet s friend was the nurse who was
not very helpful to Juliet because the nurse was free spirited and did not seem to make the best
decisions. Nurse told Juliet she should marry Romeo and then when Romeo killed Tybalt, Juliet s
cousin, and got banished she started to tell Juliet how much better Paris is for her than Romeo. The
Nurse begins to say, Your first is dead, or twere as good he were, As living here and you no use of him

not very good mentors to Romeo or Juliet.

Warring States era (475 221 BC). Two centuries later, Caesar Augustus founded the Roman Empire
and became Rome s first Emperor, ruling from 27 BC until his death in 14 AD. Both emperors ruled
with distinct and individual morals in which they laid upon their society. Both rulers utilized military
victories, new code laws, and established a sense of unity throughout the land. Each contribution to

prominent for a very long time. This meant if one was in the military in exchange for their services,
the nobility held land for them. This ridding of feudalism had a great impact over the land because it

Essay on Performance Appraisals
Performance Appraisals have been around for several years. Every year employees and managers both
dread this time of year. The employees dread it because they are not looking forward to the feedback
they will hear from their boss. The boss is dreading it because they are wasting time filling out the
standard form, and basically checking the box that the appraisal has been completed. In our textbook it
states, Giving performance feedback is the No. 1 dreaded task of managers (Kreitner 283).

Their bosses thought that by giving them a bonus or pay increase would suffice, and they would
continue doing a good job. Sometimes this basic system succeeded in getting the results that were
intended; but more often than not, it failed (Archer North). As researchers dug more into the details,
they found that employers really needed to look more into what motivates employees and not to
assume that money is the only motivator. From their studies, they were able to see that companies
should look more at the morale and self esteem of their workforce. Once this information was
revealed, the use of rewards as the main motivator was pushed to the side. The general model of
performance appraisal, as it is known today, began from that time (Archer North). In today s business
world, performance appraisals are still widely used, yet at the same time very criticized. One of the
reasons appraisals are criticized is some feel that they are a waste of time and are not value added.
Samuel Culbert, author of the book, Get Rid of Performance Reviews states, This corporate sham is
one of the most insidious, most damaging, and yet most ubiquitous of corporate activities (Culbert).
He goes on to say that, Everybody does it, and almost everyone who s evaluated hates it (Culbert). He
feels that appraisals are worthless and should never be a method used for giving employees feedback.

An Argument For The Taxpayer
22. A. If a taxpayer from New Jersey just won $1000, the first questions that would arise would be if
the $1000 is taxable and if it needs to be reported. If this were indeed taxable income, we would need
to know the filing status of the taxpayer. If this taxpayer does have to report it, we would also need to
know the date that the taxpayer won this $1000. There would be potentially more questions that could
arise from this situation, but these are the two that would first need to be answered before digging
deeper into the scenario.
B. The first question that arises from a taxpayer paying $5000 to his former wife is how long have
they not been together and is this a reoccurring payment. Also, what is this $5000 going towards? Is it

C. The facts that Mr. K is 50, previously divorced his prior wife and that he is a doctor is not relevant.
The relevant facts are that he pays Mrs. K $10,000 a month.
D. There is a good chance that there will need to be more questions asked in the future. After gaining

E. The first question that needs to be answered is the obvious one if the $10,000 is taxable income. We

Sacco Vanzetti Research Paper
Sacco Vanzetti trial During the 20th century one of the most controversial legal cases in American
history was the Sacco Vanzetti trial. Sacco and Vanzetti were accused of a double murder, and were

The practices and functions of personal photography have transformed significantly due to the break

explained by Ibrahim s concept of banal imagining in which images record the daily routines, rituals

as camera phones and digital cameras have facilitated this change in which photographs are

Van Dijck (2008) suggests that, Communication and identity formation are not novel uses but have
always been intrinsic functions of photography (p.59). In the contemporary culture, especially among
the younger generations, individuals are constantly posting images on social media sites to share their
experiences online. This is particularly evident in the social media platform, Snapchat in which a
study done in 2014 found that Snapchat users had sent over 700 million photos and videos per day
(Lunden Tsotsis, 2014). Snapchat is a mobile application which allows users to send snapshots or
videos to friends with a brief message in the form of drawing or text. The company suggests that each
snap reflect an individual in the moment without the need to curate an everlasting persona ( Ads
Snapchat, 2015) This can be explained by the unique function of Snapchat as images will disappear
after the set time expires. Therefore, the use of digital photography in Snapchat best represents how
digital photography becomes a tool for communication, enabling users to connect and getting in touch.

Analysis Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
Growing up in a world where fake news and irrational arguments can be considered a daily
occurrence, one could read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell with a skeptical eye. Readers may try to
pick out details that have been used as gimmicks to hook readers into buying it. However, once
readers move past these thoughts, they can find that the ideology that Gladwell uses to describe what
makes a person successful to be reasonable and worthwhile. He states in his introduction, They had to
appreciate the idea that the values of the world we inhabit and the people we surround ourselves with
have a profound effect on who we are, (Gladwell, 10 11). This analogy makes perfect sense if you
have the mindset that success isn t something that always relies on hard work, but the resources and
opportunities that are given to someone willing to change their life for the better. Therefore, after
analyzing this book, it is clear to readers that Gladwell is saying that success is something that is
caused by many uncontrollable factors that we nowadays brush off as luck and grit.
One such factor that is constantly pointed out in Gladwell s book is what home lives these successful
people were subjected to as children.
An example of one of these persons is Chris Langan, he grew up in a home that was constantly in
poverty and had no good role models in his family to look up to and learn from. Nevertheless, he had
a very high IQ that would make others consider him to be a genius. Compared to him in Gladwell s
book is Robert Oppenheimer, who had a similar IQ to Chris but was raised in a better household
where he learned many social skills, to the point where could talk himself out of almost poisoning his
tutor. This difference in childhood s is the deciding factor for one to become successful and the other
to be considered a nobody, as Gladwell writes about his analysis of Chris life, he pulls research from a
social experiment conducted by Annette Lareau. As a sociologist, she decided to research how the
parenting styles in twelve different families of varying social classes could affect the children they
raised. During the tests, she notes, The heavily scheduled middle class child is exposed to a constantly

Rational Decision For Making Rational Decisions
The ability for one to make rational decisions is vital, and this is especially true for decisions that can
have enormous consequences. The process for making rational decisions is tedious, it requires one to
have the opportunity to deeply process, evaluate, and re evaluate available options. This suggests that
rational decisions must be made in the absence of external parties because external influences are
capable of preventing individuals from processing information for themselves. Otherwise, this would
likely result in the individual coming to rash conclusions that cater to the external parties.
Unfortunately, under most circumstances, it is a challenge to make rational decisions, because as

In this essay, I will demonstrate that social factors such as media propaganda and conformity, as well
as personal factors which include schemas and aggression management, are the main forces that had
driven me into being irrational while I was filling out the survey. Social factors like media propaganda
and conformity have prevented me from answering the survey questions rationally. In the aftermath of
the tragic event in France on November 13th, there was extensive media coverage on the incident, and
the likelihood for future terrorist attack became the hottest topic amongst my family and friends. The
media often portrays itself as an objectively neutral source of information, and by doing so they are
able to persuade their viewers more effectively. Furthermore, the effectiveness of media propaganda
drastically increases if emotional appeals are incorporated in the messages. This can be observed in a
study which shows that smokers who got frightened when watching a film on the dangers of smoking,
were more likely to quit smoking, and in this case, the media is making use of my fear (Leventhal
1970). Different forms of media, e.g. news on television, newspaper, online news articles, and talk
shows, all painted the Syrian refugees as potential threats to our safety. For example, in one article, a
journalist discusses the potential danger we would be in if terrorists were to pose as Syrian refugees

Hedge Fund Vs Mutual Fund Essay
Hedge Fund vs Mutual Fund, Understanding The Differences
Dwayne Strocen
By Dwayne Strocen
Apr 30, 2010
In 1949 Australian Alfred Jones was credited with the term hedge fund . Historically it derives its
name from the use of hedging to manage risk while achieving superior returns. Today, a hedge fund is
an un regulated investment vehicle designated for sophisticated, also known as the Accredited Investor
.
Mutual funds gained popularity in the 1980 s. Prior to this time, the problem of the small investor was
in obtaining sufficient knowledge to make informed investment decisions, and so the average person
avoided stock market investing. Instead money was held in traditional savings accounts or placed with
a bank in a Guaranteed Investment Certificate ( GIC ) or Certificate of Deposit ( CD ).
What to do. The small investor was not able to obtain a professional money manager without $10
million or more to start. But what if he could pool his money with other small investors to reach this
minimum threshold. And so the mutual fund was created to address these exact concerns.
The mutual fund concept was simple, allow the un sophisticated investor access to the strategies of the
professional money manager. This was done by pooling small sums of money, as little as $20.00
deposited monthly. In return, the fund company would use professional money managers using
professional investment strategies to easily out perform traditional bank savings products.

The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency
There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the
social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ...
the central problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an
ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight,
2003). There are four influential positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism,
intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism
emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered
approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between
structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an
agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration
theory presents a developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are
connected externally. It argues for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical
cognizance of structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic
relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and agency is a dialectical unity of
relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances, they can be

Community Policing Defined
Community policing
Community policing is defined as a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies, which support
the systematic use of partnerships and problem solving techniques, to proactively address the
immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of
crime according to the U.S. Department of Justice. (U. S. Department of Justice). In other words the
main goal of community policing is the allocation of various police agencies/staff to particular areas
around the community so they become familiar with its inhabitants and lifestyle. This style of policing
attempts to modify the department through a system called de bureaucratization and has four major
goals to meet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assigning key officers to permanent locations, Chicago officers could gain greater knowledge of the
community problems and how to solve them responsibly. Community policing displays the basic
elements of policing and it has some helped shape recent policing strategies such as Problem Oriented
Policing and Zero Tolerance Policing. The most important obvious difference from other policing
strategies is that it represents a major change in the basic role of a police officer. Traditionally police
officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it broaden their role to order
maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders within the home. Problem oriented
policing main focus is based on law, order and fear problems. Unlike Community policing, POP opts
that officers should address particular problems and develop creative responses to each one. Instead of
a crime fighter image officers under the POP ideology function as problem solvers, planners, and
community advocates. POP and Community Policing are very similar in their police tactics however,
the newly accepted Zero tolerance Policy is very different. It is characterized by interventions that
aggressively enforce criminal/civil laws and that are conducted for the purpose of restoring order to
communities. This theory believes through harsh and aggressive enforcement of laws, crime will
cause the community to be more inclined to care which will

  • 2. Methods Of Communication Review your current methods of communication. Discuss areas such as using slang or text abbreviations that could take away from your professional image. My current method of communication is a little bit of everywhere. When it comes to texting friends or family members I always talk slang or if I do talk professional with them I tend to abbreviate my words to send the text back fast if I m in a rush to send the message Like for example when I say talk to you later I tend to say TTYL. When I talk to friends or family on the phone I tend to do the same thing to where I slang my words like for example I would say was up instead of what s up. When I talk on the phone with someone that s a professional at a company I would tend to drop the ball ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nurse Driven, Sleep Hygiene Protocol, A Source Of Anxiety... The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore, will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of 2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID Journals. Keywords: ICU, intensive care unit, critical care, quiet time, noise, and nursing. Quiet Time in the ICU One of the top three sources of anxiety and stress for patients during an intensive care unit (ICU) stay is the inability to sleep (Kamdar, Needham, Collop, 2012). There is ... Neoliberalism In Mexico repressing politics: cutting off free imagination about our own future, discouraging thought and reflection, keeping it in the closet, in other words: separating resistance from liberation. Fortunately, many things have changed in regards to public opinion of Mexico s What we want to make understood is that we should not fall into the error of idealizing indigenous communities, while still recognizing their very real merits, and while making clear that despite centuries of attacks, there remains in indigenous communities a long tradition and a strong insistence on doing thing collectively. • 5. The Myth Of Co-Sex Marriage In Andrew Sullivan s For Gay... In the article, For Gay Marriage, author Andrew Sullivan claims that without the right to marry that heterosexuals possess, homosexuals are denied equality. Sullivan argues that withholding this right will not prevent homosexual relationships; instead, it would be a measure simply to restrict the same right heterosexuals enjoy. Not allowing these homosexual couples to marry and prove their love to each other would prevent gay adolescents from having role models in which they can learn how a committed homosexual relationship could be. In the article, The Myth of Co Parenting: How It Was Supposed to Be. How It Was., author Hope Edelman exhumes that marriage is not equal, and that women are naive to believe that it is. She also examines the faults in heterosexual marriage and how they are blighted by falsehoods and poor relationships between parents and their children. Though they defend two different groups of people, Sullivan and Edelman would most likely agree with one another on the redefinitions of marriage, the need to combat society s marital expectations, and the negative effects marriage currently has on children. Through their articles, Andrew Sullivan and Hope Edelman give their definitions of marriage. Sullivan offers an ideology from the contemporary West that . . . marriage has become a way in which the state recognizes an emotional commitment by two people to each other for life (Sullivan 30), where homosexuals are entitled to the right of equality. Is it where people have to be uniform to each other? What is the point having such a life where you cannot make your own choices?, you cannot have feelings or unable to live with your own biological parents. There is a particular world that some live in, and that is the World of Dance. When you are a part of that world, you literally live and breathe it. Every aspect of the dance culture is wrapped up in that world. To those looking in from the outside it is beautiful, filled with lights, lovely costumes, mesmerizing music, and graceful movements. Perhaps the very first image the general public would see in their mind s eye, upon hearing the word dancer , is that of a darling little five year old girl in a pretty pink tutu and delicate ballet slippers stepping into her local dance studio for the first time. Take someone a little deeper into that thought, and they might see an overly thin, pale sixteen year old young woman, with collarbones and ribs showing working herself almost to death to earn a minor part in a dance chorus. Suggest that someone describe a dancer in the height of their career, and you might hear of a Prima Ballerina with the Moscow Ballet. • 13. Essay on The Malignant American in Surfacing The Malignant American in Surfacing Before traveling through Europe last summer, friends advised me to avoid being identified as an American. Throughout Europe, the term American connotes arrogance and insensitivity to local culture. In line with the foregoing stereotype, the unnamed narrator s use of the term American in Margaret Atwood s Surfacing is used to describe individuals of any nationality who are unempathetic and thus destructive. The narrator, however, uses the word in the context of her guilt over her abortion and consequent emotional numbness. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emotional numbness is the logical cause for such behaviour, as a lack of empathy enables an individual to act heedless of negative consequences to others. The narrator s scathing treatment of Americans during the foregoing encounter is representative of the treatment she affords them throughout Surfacing. Americans are variously described as tapeworms (129), loon killers (121), analogues to Hitler (129) and attackers (183). Although the narrator frequently applies the label American to people who she thinks are citizens of the United States (US), she ultimately divorces the term from nationality. When the narrator discovers that two men who wantonly killed a heron are Canadian, she states, It doesn t matter what country they re from, my head said, they re still Americans (129). In the narrator s mind, American is a term describing those who are emotionally numb and are capable of inflicting pain on others. Given the intensity of the narrator s feelings about the term American, it clearly has special significance in her mind. This significance stems from an abortion she underwent as a result of a relationship with a married man. The effect of the abortion is alluded to when Anna is reading the narrator s palm: You had a good childhood but then there s this funny break (8). The abortion traumatised the narrator, leaving her with a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Patients that are unable to follow prescriptions as ordered, related to lack of coverage, escalate stress on the health care system; increasing physician and emergency department visits, which may have been avoidable if the medications were covered for all Canadians (Lexchin, 2017). There are various socio political barriers to implementing a universal drug coverage plan in Canada. Primarily, the federal government s Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), controls prescription and non prescription prices by making comparisons of across seven selected Organization of Economic Co Operation and Development (OECD) countries (Tang, Ghali, Manns, 2014). However, these OECD comparative countries have higher medication prices. In fact, four of the seven OECD countries have the most expensive prices worldwide; consequently increasing Canadian prescription pricing. According to Morgan and Boothe (2016), another barrier to universal drug coverage in Canada stems from pharmacare s initially low place on the policy agenda (p. 249). Healthy public policy development requires synergy between the public, policy makers, and institutions alike. If universal drug coverage has less attention than other health policy debates a political change is less likely to occur (p. 251). A comparison of dystopian texts explores contemporary issues of society and integrates them into an alien world. The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood illustrates the nature of society as far from ideal, and the destructive nature of oppression. Similarly, Gattaca by Andrew Niccol epitomises the characteristics of a dystopian text, by highlighting the subversion of natural processes, suppression of identity and oppression present in society. Both texts explore similar themes that reflect a society s deepest fears to the audience dehumanisation. Oppression is a major fret in the contemporary world. Alluding to Ronald Raegan s policy of supporting the oppressive apartheid in South Africa, Atwood in The Handmaid s Tale, conveys a society where oppression is accepted through forced collaboration and a fear of consequences if not followed. Offred s internalised oppression is evident when she describes that the Handmaids are treated as two legged wombs, that s all: sacred vessels, ambulatory chalices . This is a metaphor manifesting how the Handmaids come to accept that their purpose is to produce children and showing Offred s personal oppression and her willingness to comply with the regime. From their studies, they were able to see that companies should look more at the morale and self esteem of their workforce. Once this information was revealed, the use of rewards as the main motivator was pushed to the side. The general model of performance appraisal, as it is known today, began from that time (Archer North). One of the reasons appraisals are criticized is some feel that they are a waste of time and are not value added. Samuel Culbert, author of the book, Get Rid of Performance Reviews states, This corporate sham is one of the most insidious, most damaging, and yet most ubiquitous of corporate activities (Culbert). He goes on to say that, Everybody does it, and almost everyone who s evaluated hates it (Culbert). He feels that appraisals are worthless and should never be a method used for giving employees feedback. After doing more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Quarterback Mac Newton s Arguments Of Cam Newton This Wednesday Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton made comments in a press conference that were pretty clearly sexist in nature. When asked a question about Devin Funchess and the growth in his route running Cam Newton simply laughed and said it was funny to hear a female asking a question about routes. After this absurd reaction Cam Newton did proceed to answer the question but there is still serious confusion to why Cam Newton reacted that way. Throughout his career Newton has been respectful to reporters of both sexes and this outburst is completely unexpected. Due to his comments Cam Newton has lost his Dannnon endorsement. The reporter Jourdan Rodrigue also reported that she sought out Cam Newton after he left the locker room and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. An Argument For The Taxpayer 22. A. If a taxpayer from New Jersey just won $1000, the first questions that would arise would be if the $1000 is taxable and if it needs to be reported. If this were indeed taxable income, we would need to know the filing status of the taxpayer. If this taxpayer does have to report it, we would also need to know the date that the taxpayer won this $1000. There would be potentially more questions that could arise from this situation, but these are the two that would first need to be answered before digging deeper into the scenario. B. The facts that Mr. K is 50, previously divorced his prior wife and that he is a doctor is not relevant. The relevant facts are that he pays Mrs. K $10,000 a month. D. Then, the child s diet and food preference creates all the difference. However, teenagers and youth develop food preferences are based on the advertising they see which, unfortunately, aim for the high calorie and sugar laden drinks and snacks. • 33. Sacco Vanzetti Research Paper Sacco Vanzetti trial During the 20th century one of the most controversial legal cases in American history was the Sacco Vanzetti trial. Sacco and Vanzetti were accused of a double murder, and were sentenced to death by electric chair. Although, the trial wasn t as simple as it seems, the only piece of evidence tying them to the case was a tweed cap found on the crime scene and many believed that they were only being accused of these murders because of their political beliefs and the fact that they were italian immigrants. Nicola Sacco was a thirty two year old immigrant born on April 22, 1891 in Torremaggiore, Italy. He moved to the U.S. when he was seventeen and worked as shoemaker in Plymouth, where he lived with his wife and two kids. Bartolomeo Vanzetti was a twenty nine year old fish peddler born June 12, 1888 in Villafalletto, Italy. He moved the Plymouth when he was twenty year sold, and was taken back when he discovered how working class immigrants were treated in the United States during this time period. This transformation can be explained by Ibrahim s concept of banal imagining in which images record the daily routines, rituals and the events which mark out life s movements (Ibrahim, 2015, p.44). New digital technologies such as camera phones and digital cameras have facilitated this change in which photographs are increasingly being digitalised and are used to capture typical moments and mundane memories of everyday life other than rituals or special moments. Van Dijck (2008) suggests that, Communication and identity formation are not novel uses but have always been intrinsic functions of photography (p.59). In the contemporary culture, especially among the younger generations, individuals are constantly posting images on social media sites to share their experiences online. This is particularly evident in the social media platform, Snapchat in which a study done in 2014 found that Snapchat users had sent over 700 million photos and videos per day (Lunden Tsotsis, 2014). Snapchat is a mobile application which allows users to send snapshots or videos to friends with a brief message in the form of drawing or text. The company suggests that each snap reflect an individual in the moment without the need to curate an everlasting persona ( Ads Snapchat, 2015) This can be explained by the unique function of Snapchat as images will disappear after the set time expires. Therefore, the use of digital photography in Snapchat best represents how digital photography becomes a tool for communication, enabling users to connect and getting in touch. • 35. Analysis Of Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell Growing up in a world where fake news and irrational arguments can be considered a daily occurrence, one could read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell with a skeptical eye. Readers may try to pick out details that have been used as gimmicks to hook readers into buying it. However, once readers move past these thoughts, they can find that the ideology that Gladwell uses to describe what makes a person successful to be reasonable and worthwhile. He states in his introduction, They had to appreciate the idea that the values of the world we inhabit and the people we surround ourselves with have a profound effect on who we are, (Gladwell, 10 11). This analogy makes perfect sense if you have the mindset that success isn t something that always relies on hard work, but the resources and opportunities that are given to someone willing to change their life for the better. Therefore, after analyzing this book, it is clear to readers that Gladwell is saying that success is something that is caused by many uncontrollable factors that we nowadays brush off as luck and grit. One such factor that is constantly pointed out in Gladwell s book is what home lives these successful people were subjected to as children. An example of one of these persons is Chris Langan, he grew up in a home that was constantly in poverty and had no good role models in his family to look up to and learn from. Nevertheless, he had a very high IQ that would make others consider him to be a genius. Compared to him in Gladwell s book is Robert Oppenheimer, who had a similar IQ to Chris but was raised in a better household where he learned many social skills, to the point where could talk himself out of almost poisoning his tutor. This difference in childhood s is the deciding factor for one to become successful and the other to be considered a nobody, as Gladwell writes about his analysis of Chris life, he pulls research from a social experiment conducted by Annette Lareau. As a sociologist, she decided to research how the parenting styles in twelve different families of varying social classes could affect the children they raised. During the tests, she notes, The heavily scheduled middle class child is exposed to a constantly shifting set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The process for making rational decisions is tedious, it requires one to have the opportunity to deeply process, evaluate, and re evaluate available options. This suggests that rational decisions must be made in the absence of external parties because external influences are capable of preventing individuals from processing information for themselves. Otherwise, this would likely result in the individual coming to rash conclusions that cater to the external parties. In this essay, I will demonstrate that social factors such as media propaganda and conformity, as well as personal factors which include schemas and aggression management, are the main forces that had driven me into being irrational while I was filling out the survey. Social factors like media propaganda and conformity have prevented me from answering the survey questions rationally. In the aftermath of the tragic event in France on November 13th, there was extensive media coverage on the incident, and the likelihood for future terrorist attack became the hottest topic amongst my family and friends. The media often portrays itself as an objectively neutral source of information, and by doing so they are able to persuade their viewers more effectively. Furthermore, the effectiveness of media propaganda drastically increases if emotional appeals are incorporated in the messages. This can be observed in a study which shows that smokers who got frightened when watching a film on the dangers of smoking, were more likely to quit smoking, and in this case, the media is making use of my fear (Leventhal 1970). The small investor was not able to obtain a professional money manager without $10 million or more to start. But what if he could pool his money with other small investors to reach this minimum threshold. And so the mutual fund was created to address these exact concerns. The mutual fund concept was simple, allow the un sophisticated investor access to the strategies of the professional money manager. This was done by pooling small sums of money, as little as $20.00 deposited monthly. • 38. The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ... the central problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight, 2003). There are four influential positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism, intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration theory presents a developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are connected externally. It argues for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical cognizance of structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic relational approach . Assigning key officers to permanent locations, Chicago officers could gain greater knowledge of the community problems and how to solve them responsibly. Community policing displays the basic elements of policing and it has some helped shape recent policing strategies such as Problem Oriented Policing and Zero Tolerance Policing. The most important obvious difference from other policing strategies is that it represents a major change in the basic role of a police officer. Traditionally police officers were used to only fight crime, with community policing it broaden their role to order maintenance, conflict resolution and social and physical disorders within the home. Problem oriented policing main focus is based on law, order and fear problems. Unlike Community policing, POP opts that officers should address particular problems and develop creative responses to each one. Instead of a crime fighter image officers under the POP ideology function as problem solvers, planners, and community advocates. POP and Community Policing are very similar in their police tactics however, the newly accepted Zero tolerance Policy is very different.
