Analysis of Barbie-Q by Sandra Cisneros Essay
Analysis of Barbie Q by Sandra Cisneros
Cisneros Barbie Q really stood out as a great piece of literature. Barbie Q is a quick glimpse into the
life of a poverty stricken child and her way of life. Though my life as of yet has been rather short, my
earliest childhood memories are overwhelmingly my fondest and her account really struck a chord.
Sandra Cisneros accurate reflection of a young mind and intricate writing methods expressed great
emotion. Her portrayal of a child s mentality evoked my childhood recollections while her realistic
tale of childhood bliss in the midst of poverty caused great empathy on my part making this my
preferred work we studied.
Sandra s tale brought back much nostalgia for my younger days. Those ... Show more content on

Skipping , humming , loopity loops , and pirouetting are silly things that everyone has done as a child,
including myself. These reminders set me in a time machine back to my favorite days when the only
thing important to me was my own happiness. Another less obvious reflection of a puerile mind is the
same story . In this tale of a young girl s game, Sandra Cisneros refers to a pretend play the girls have
made up for their Barbie s to act out. This play is referred to as the same story and really hit on what
childhood playtime was all about. I remember doing the exact same thing as a child with my brothers
(except we were cops and robbers), where we played out the same actions over and over, day after
day. Cisneros recognized this to be common to all children and smartly places it for the reader to
reflect on their past, as I did on my own. Sandra Cisneros evokes great sympathy for her characters,
which added to my favor of the story. In a first few sentences, Sandra has already revealed to the
reader the poor social status of the young girls and continues to do so throughout the tale. She
particularly points out their pauper way of life by repeating the small amount of toys the young girls
have. She mentions all the girls could afford was one extra outfit apiece then one paragraph later
recalls again our one outfit apiece . Also, Cisneros touches on the sock dress the girls made

Obamacare Case Study
Once again, we have a new president who is working hard to put change once again to America. Our
new president Donald Trump is using executive orders to try and replace Obamacare. What are
executive orders? Executive order are orders that the current president gives to the government and
basically has the full force of power to make changes. Obamacare was a plan that our former president
Barak Obama created to make affordable healthcare and insurance (Amadeo). The issue that Donald
Trump was trying to go at was completely removing Obamacare and puting in a new plan that will be
more affordable and more beneficial to people. Is it going to be hard for Donald Trump to remove or
change Obamacare? According to Matthew Cooper, Obamacare is going ... Show more content on

What are the other major changes with Donald Trump s executive plan on removing Obamacare?
According to the company Motely Fool , With a spotless cancelation taking a gander right now,
Congressional Republicans may swing to a procedure known as compromise, which would enable
them to annul the segments of Obamacare that effect the government spending plan. All together for a
compromise bill to pass the Senate, a lion s share of 51 votes is all that would be required, and
Republicans voting along partisan loyalties can achieve this aggregate. Compromise would wipe out
Obamacare s endowments, and the Common Duty Installment, which would positively affect how a
huge number of Americans set up their charges (William). Another issue is that on one hand, the ACA
is yet the wellbeing rule that everyone must follow, regardless of the possibility that it is by all
accounts living on re appropriated time. This implies the individual order is still law, and the
individuals who pick not to buy medical coverage ought to pay the SRP, unless they re excluded. Then
again, without line 61 filled in, the IRS has no certification that the citizen paid the SRP or was even
safeguarded in 2016 (William). The IRS has proposed that in the event if it has a question about a
specific expense form it ll catch up with those citizens after the recording procedure is over.
Notwithstanding, the IRS has likewise already said that it wouldn t embellish compensation or pursue
a man s property for not paying the SRP (William). Trump s official request has made it almost
unimaginable for the IRS to gather the SRP or to solidly confirm a people s medical coverage status.
Trump was unsuccessful in reforming Obamacare using executive orders, but we can see how Trump s
executive orders were put into action. He commanded officials and federal government agents to start
attacking Obamacare to find it s weak

This is a sign of heuristic driven bias.
Behavioral finance assumes that:
1.investors are loss averse, which means they prefer uncertain losses to certain losses.
2.investors exhibit biased expectations, due to overconfidence in their ability to forecast the future.
3.investors construct portfolios via asset segregation, meaning that they tend to focus on an asset s
individual investment features versus its impact on the overall portfolio position
By admitting his mistake but reiterating other projections, one used the single predictor defense.
Feeling that they should spread out their risk, but not knowing how leads to the 1/n diversification
heuristic. Often times, participants will only have a rough understanding of the effects of correlation
and diversification and will simply divide their assets equally over the investment options in the plan
in an attempt diversify their portfolio.
DC participants tend to hold excess stock of the company they work for due to familiarity and a
perceived endorsement by management.
The endorsement effect refers to the misconception that by offering an investment as an alternative,
the sponsor is implicitly endorsing it as a good investment.
Note that the status quo bias refers to a lack of action on the part of the participant. Also note that
putting too much in company stock would be an example of an investor being boundedly selfish in

Globalization By Arthur Macewan
Perhaps a cliché to mention, but an important aspect of human life which has brought the entire race to
where it stands today, is the very act and ability to communicate with each other; and finally in the
19th century, this ability to communicate culminated to that process of ultimate human integration
which is known as globalization . Although the 19th century is considered as the beginning of the kind
of globalization that describes the modern world today, the process is believed to have begun during
the times of great voyages and discoveries. Arthur Macewan in his essay What is Globalization (2001)
wrote, Ever since Adam and Eve left the garden, people have been expanding the geographic realm of
their economic, political, social and cultural contacts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, as a process of change that can embody both great opportunities of wealth and progress and
great trauma and suffering, globalization at the beginning of the 21st century is following a well
established historical path. Macewan further sketches a path of the process of globalization and says
that there are two very important surges of globalization in the modern era the first surge that can be
said to be the mark of the pronouncement of the modern era, came with the invasion of the continent
of Africa and Asia by the European powers; and the second surge took place in the 19th century both
as a product and cause of Industrial Revolution. Thus, this new socio economic political trend that
took over the world in the 19th century was however, not contended to the socio economic political
front only. Globalization as a global force influenced academic practices as well; also the various
disciplines of humanities started pondering more and more on the nature of globalization and the
influences that it have (and can further have) on all the aspects of human life and

The Existence Of God And The Battle Between Good And Evil
The existence of God and the battle between good and evil has been a topic of much discussion for
centuries. Through the philosophical scope, there is a Problem of Evil that challenges the existence an
all powerful God if there is evil in the world. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, was a German philosopher
who argued about the topic of the problem of evil. Leibniz argued that (1) evil is not necessary; (2)
that there is evil in the world because as humans we are restricted in our knowledge since we are
merely made in the image of God, but we are not God and thus we are exposed to evil; and (3) God
didn t create evil but evil exists because of the free will of humans; all of which I believe provides a
clear solution to the problem of evil.
The problem of evil states that if evil exists in this world then there is no reasonable way that an all
powerful, benevolent God can exist, since if so, he would have made the world without evil. However,
Leibniz argues that evil is not necessary but it is a choice that we make. Evil is not absolute and is not
existent in all possible worlds since it is up to human choice. Evil is due to human free will (Bailey
105). This theory proves that evil is not something that is absolute contrary to the existence of God.
However, it is something that is chosen and acted on by human, showing, evil is not necessary or
directly connect with God. This provides a solution to the problem of evil because if evil is subject to
the choice of humans, then

Vacation In The Smoky Mountains
Who wouldn t want to take a vacation in the Smoky Mountains? The smokies have been there for a
very long time. In the mountains there s still historical landmarks. Many plants and animals have
inhabited the mountains and made them their home. The Smokies have many interesting and fun
attractions and things to do. The history of the smokies are quite interesting to listen to and hear about.
The smoky mountains are a beautiful place to visit. for the permanent enjoyment of the people.
Franklin Roosevelt. What is the permanent enjoyment for the people? Well it would be the Smoky
Mountain national park. It will never be destroyed by humans. It will not be moved. People from all
over the world will enjoy it. The land that became Great Smoky Mountains National Park was owned
by hundreds of small farmers and a handful of large timber and paper companies. 150,000 acres of
land had to be purchased before The Department of the Interior assumed responsibility for
administration and protection of the park in the Smokies. The park was dedicated by President
Franklin Roosevelt in September, 1940. The government could not buy land so many companies,
groups, and individuals have money out of their pockets. They came up with the amount of 5 million

The Importance Of Earbuds
Did you know, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, An estimated 12.5% of
children and adolescents aged 6 19 years (approximately 5.2 million) and 17% of adults aged 20 69
years (approximately 26 million) have suffered permanent damage to their hearing from excessive
exposure to noise. ? An increase in noise induced hearing loss has raised concerns about the safety of
ear buds. Many people are currently debating whether to ban earbuds to solve the issue. Earbuds
damage hearing and should be banned. They put adolescents at risk of noise induced hearing loss, they
reach dangerously high noise levels, and hearing problems caused as a result of them negatively affect
a person s life. Furthermore, earbuds are putting adolescents at risk of noise induced hearing loss. For
example, A report released earlier this year by the World Health Organization (WHO) says that 1.1
billion teens and young adults worldwide are at risk of hearing loss... one main reason is the use of
personal audio devices such as iPods, with earbuds or headphones (What Did You Say?, 4). In other
words, as a result of earbuds, adolescents are at a risk of noise induced hearing loss. Many adolescents
use earbuds for long periods of time or listen to music at high volume levels without knowing that
they are gradually hurting their ears and putting themselves at risk of hearing damage. Furthermore,

Character Archetypes Of The Novel The Of Nick Cutter...
To truly understand what adulthood means, grasping who we are as people, we all must first undergo a
metamorphosis. This transformation from boy to man has overtime been a common theme amongst
writers. Typically, the passage a young adult must make to enter adulthood is romantic or sexual,
experiencing their first relationship, or purchasing their first condom. However, a severe, twisted and
arguably more meaningful test into adulthood is understanding mortality, and one s depth of humanity.
Mercilessness of individuals and our world is often viewed as a theme amongst horror novels, creating
an ideal platform for a coming of age adventure. In all forms of storytelling, character archetypes are

Ephraim can be seen as the warrior, he is at times cruel, but ultimately cares very deeply about Max.
Specifically, he represents the passive shadow of the warrior, the masochist. Eef was my best friend,
you could count on Eef. He always stuck up for you. He has a really big heart. (Cutter, 2014. p.347)
Sadly, when faced with his own mental weakness he is brought down by Shelley s manipulation.
Ephraim is a character haunted by his past, wishing to fight the parts of himself that represent his
father, his anger and regret. His father was abusive, breaking Ephraim s arm as a child. Ephraim is the
masochist even before the events of Falstaff island. He is a daredevil, often got into fights. As max
expresses of he displays signs of displacement (Cutter, 2014 p.266). Displacement is one of Freud s
seven defense mechanisms, an integral part of Ephraim and the warrior s shadow. According to
displacement theory Ephraim expresses his anger for his father toward the easiest target, himself. This
is because his anger needs to be expressed in one way or another, and the paranoia of the worms is the
perfect platform to become completely self destructive (Baumeister, 1998). His anger is his foil, losing
his close friendship with max and allowing Shelly to fully take control of his mind. To become a men
and a pure warrior Ephraim needs to allow for disappointment in authoritative adult figures, and loose
the illusion of the adult despite the inevitable blow to his

I Love Lucy
In the book Harvard design school guide to shopping, Louise Wyman explores the notion of
relationships between humans and commodities through The project of modernity ... the Crystal
Palace (Wyman, L. 2001, p.229). Wyman suggests that the construction of The Crystal Palace in 1851
begun to break down the strict relationship between commodities, such as clothing, and social class.
Both the way in which the building was constructed and the events taking place within the building
support this claim.
Unconventional design concepts and material use that incorporate the use of science, technology and
nature were a key development during this time period. In Hitchcock s words, Paxton s scheme owed
its aesthetic qualities to factors hitherto unrecognised the repetition of units manufactured in series, the
functional lace like patterns of criss cross trusses, the transparent definition of space, the total
elimination of mass and the sense of tensile, almost live, strength as opposed to the solid and
gravitational quality of previous masonry architecture (Mordant Crook 1987, p.107). This suggests
Paxton was challenging traditional architecture of the period, offering a fresh perspective. The ...

Social Media Has Affected The Way Human Interact With Each
Social media has affected the way human interact with each other. Social media is websites and
applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking, which
involves Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. Adolescents use social media to make
relationships that are really interment, but could be dangerous. Most adolescents do not interact with
one another in person as much they use to before social media. Adolescents would rather video chat
and message each other, rather than meet in person. Fewer adolescents interact in extracurricular
activities, which strengthen friendships with one another. However, social media are also used to bully

Not much attention is being paid to the social content that happens on the Internet. When the social
content finally hit the light, most victims either end up doing some damage to them. Prevent programs
should be more proactive to seize this act. Adolescents will feel more comfortable being able to come
have a conversation with someone to help cope through the bullying. By the cyber bullies getting
punished, this will solve the issues that are occurring. In conclusion, cyber bully must gain more
attention so victims can seem to get a sense of relief.
Teens are meeting friends online who are complete strangers. Many teens connect through online
game and social media and do not meet online. According from the Washington Post by Kang (2015),
6 out of 10 teens say they met at least one friend from the web. Only one third of adolescents end up
meeting each other in person. Meeting someone online sometimes a person may never know who is on
the other side of the screen. Sexual predators prey one teens that engage in the online social networks.
For example, when adolescents are online, some are not attentive of the behavior the other users

Edouard Manet was known as the very first modern artist in 19th century, and a leading figure in the
transition from realism to impressionism in the history of art. Born in 1832, he was recognised as a
painter in his hometown in Paris. His artworks had influenced young artists during that era. The truth
is that Manet painted virtually all of his pictures from everyday life situation. Therefore, his major
works depicted Parisian social life at the end of 19th century. People who were drinking, waiting,
listening to the music, reading, talking to others in a cafe, and also including street people, singers,
beggars, gypsies and bullfights became the main subjects for his paintings. He successfully brought

Caesar Augustus Dbq
When we think about the historical significance of Rome, it comes down to its leaders and how these
leaders ruled in their era. Confidence, commitment, inspiration, intuition, and creativity, are all
essential traits that a ruler must possess. In my opinion, no one has demonstrated these important
characteristics better than Caesar Augustus, or better known as Octavian. Octavian showed how good
of administrator he was, which was well needed after years of civil strife and social unrest. On the
other hand, military genius, Julius Caesar, was lacking in administrative qualities which infect, lead
his era to have a period of civil war and bloodshed. Octavian modernized a weak republic into a
powerful empire, allowing his ruling to be remembered throughout Roman history. Found Rome a city

The American Of The Canadian Empire
Once considered the gem of the Canadian Crown Corporations, Air Canada was afflicted by a storm of
financial problems in the early nineties. This onslaught of financial difficulties, which had been
created largely by the Gulf War and the Canadian recession, increased Air Canada s losses increased at
worrisome rates. Then, after suffering losses upwards of $218 million in 1991, the Board of Directors
recognized the need for a corporate overhaul and consequently appointed Hollis Harris as the Chief
Executive Officer the following year. Harris, a 37 year veteran in the highly competitive American
airline industry, was given the challenging task of returning the struggling airline to profitability.
When he was appointed, many Canadians were outraged that an American would lead a privatized
Canadian company and feared this decision to be a step towards the impending Americanization of the
Canadian culture. Others speculated that Harris was appointed for the sole purpose of training and
mentoring Air Canada s future leader . However, these individuals were all proven wrong when Harris
transformed the reeling airline into a leading competitor in the global airline industry. His American
background, which was condemned by many, played a significant role in the expanding Air Canada s
international reach. His experience in the aviation sector combined with his extraordinary leadership
skills, helped reduce costs and placed Air Canada on the path to financial recovery. Finally,

The Traits of Mark Anthony
Mark Antony has been portrayed as a loyal friend, a hero, an adulterer, and a drug addict. That
represents a wide range of attributes for a single man to inherit. Did Mark Antony really possess all of
these traits? Mark Antony was a much simpler man than his portrayal. Mark Antony embodied a
stereotypical jock. Brutus stated Antony s propensity to sports, to wildness and much company
(II.i.196). Mark Antony participated in the race of Lupercal, an equestrian race in which athletes
participated during a Roman festival. Wildness could have alluded to Antony s gambling habits, and
much company could reference Antony s inability to confine himself to one woman (II.i.196). In spite
of Antony s faithlessness toward his wife, he held extreme loyalty to Caesar. Antony became very
emotional about the death of Caesar. He strove to create the illusion of friendship with Caesar s
murderers in order to make them feel comfortable; Antony wanted them to let their guard down so it
would be easier to help Caesar s spirit, which was ranging for revenge (III.i.285). He spoke to them as
if he sympathized with their cause and strived to make them feel comfortable. However, they fled the
city while he conveyed his speech to the plebeians at Caesar s funeral. Antony exhibited popularity in
Rome, so the plebeians respected his opinion. The funeral speech convinced the plebeians of his cause
and allowed him to set his plan in motion. After the funeral, he did everything

ABSTRACT
Web Services are modular, self describing, self contained and loosely coupled applications that can be
published, located, and invoked across the web. With the increasing number of web services available
on the web, the need for web services composition is becoming more and more important. Nowadays,
for answering complex needs of users, the construction of new web services based on existing ones is
required.
This problem is known as web services composition. However, it is one of big challenge problems of
recent years in a distributed and dynamic environment. The various approaches in field of web service

Child Sleep Research Papers
Bedtime is one of the most important times of the day for a child. Not only does sleep give children
the child a chance to rest after the day s many activities, but it also allows time for their brain to rest
and absorb the material learned throughout the day. It comes as no surprise that child sleep disorders
can be one of the most stressful issues for parents to deal with. It is important for parents to know that
sleep disorders usually do not affect the child s regular growth and development. They could,
however, be a sign of a behavioral issue, anxiety, or other physiological issues. When it comes to child
sleep disorders, here is a list of what parents need to know: Look for obvious signs that your child isn t
sleeping enough. The symptoms include excessive yawning, drooping eyelids, fatigue, and attention
deficit. These signs all indicate that your child is not sleeping well due to either physiological or
anxiety problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several types of sleep disorders, and knowing the differences between each one will guide
you in seeking treatment. Here are a few of the most common child sleep disorders: Pediatric
obstructive sleep apnea. This occurs when the child s throat relaxes to the point of closing, causing
them to stop breathing for a period of a few seconds. Snoring is a common problem associated with
this condition. Insomnia. Children can have sleep onset association type childhood insomnia, in which
the child awakens frequently and for long periods during the night and may need the parent s
assistance to go back to sleep, or limit setting type childhood insomnia, in which the child may refuse
to go to bed and greatly delay returning to sleep when awoken. Restless Leg Syndrome. This
syndrome is characterized by a twitching or tingling in the leg muscles while lying down. A child may
move excessively at night to lessen the annoyance because movement is often the only way to relieve
the unpleasant sensation.

The Functional Nature Of The Software
Integrating Autograph in teaching The functional nature of the software is determined by the order of
tasks prepared by the teacher and how the learners interact with the software (Godwin Beswetherick,
2003). Hence, working on the tasks set using the software, the learners are able to manipulate and
explore mathematical relationships independently. Previously, I have taught this topic using pedagogy
and content knowledge, in line with the department s Scheme of Work. However, following the
assessments carried out; the question testing pupils knowledge on the shape of parabolas formed was
poorly answered by more than half of the pupils in our Year 10. Therefore, my expectation is that by

However, we should not overrule using pen and paper because it is important for learners to know
how to draw the graph and to be able to explore this by themselves. Trialling teaching and learning
using Autograph The functionality of the software is partially determined by the type of activities
designed by the teacher and how the pupils interact with it (Godwin Beswetherick, 2003). Therefore,
for a desired learning outcome to be attained, meticulous planning of the tasks by the teacher must be
prepared. Tasks set should provide a purposeful balance of instructions and experiment enabling
learners to make effective use of the DT tool in their learning and at the same time allow the
possibility of exploration. Failure to properly plan activities will result in inadequate progress made by
learners and unsuccessful integration of the digital tool in lesson. In designing the task we should
make room for pupils to make conjectures and tests them using the DT. In assessing pupils
understanding, skilful questioning and plenary activities tend to make lessons to be more engaging and
more inclusive. Also, as mentioned before, planning for learners errors and misconceptions at and
intervening on this should not be overlooked as it is required to provoke mathematical insight and
guide students to the desired end point. I prepared two activities for two sessions on using Autograph

quickly returns once she realizes she is missing her key. While both are now searching for the key in
the dark both of their hands meet and it is love. Puccini makes fluctuations in tempo, which affects the
mood of the song. It changes from and innocent tone to a more majestic tone towards the end. The
continuous dialogue between the characters allows the elaboration of the story on how they met and
fell in love. This movement is written in a time signature of 2/4 in b flat minor. Overall I liked this
piece a bit more, it was overall more timid, yet romantic at the same time giving it a heroic and
majestic mood. The lyrics were more realistic, where as the other were more fictional, and somewhat
disturbing in my opinion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this opera, Woton, has stolen a ring that gives him mystical powers, but then has to give it up.
Wonton eventually marries a woman and has children with her, a twin brother and sister. Later his
wife is killed and the sister is taken captive and forced into marriage, which breaks up the family for
years. Years later the brother visits the a woman, to which he quickly falls in love, and unbeknownst to

more dramatic story Wanger uses more dissonant and chromatic harmonies, which creates more
tension and adds to the mysterious tone. In comparison to Act I of Puccini s La Boheme, I think that
this piece makes more use of dynamics also adding to the dramatic story. The piece is composed in a

Running With Scissors By Augusten Burroughs
Child development is the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in individuals
between birth and the end of adolescence. (Wiki) Child development is inevitably altered when
obstacles such as mental instability and abandonment arise, ultimately affecting children going into
adulthood. Adolescents are very unlikely to reach their full potential without the guidance of an adult
figure, such as a mother, father, sibling, or guardian. Adult figures are essential to a growing child
because they exemplify decision making, wisdom, and overall life lessons on how to grow up.
Although some children do have an adult figure in their life, they aren t always the best influences for
their children, adults also face their own battles which can reflect upon their exterior, ultimately
having a critical effect on a child s development. For example, in Running with Scissors by Augusten
Burroughs, the main character Augusten lives with his mother who suffers from a mental disorder who
guides him into a pathway of chaos and disorder. Augusten learns to cope with no guidance, but still
faces many issues that could have been resolved with a reassuring adult figure. Situations that affect
adults can range from divorce, alcoholism, and depression. Although not as talked about, teenage
parenting also plays a big role in the way a child will develop. In most cases, teenage pregnancies are
unplanned and as a result young teenage girls either decide to keep, abort, or put the baby

Causes Of The Trail Of Tears
This first hand account by John G Burnett, a member of the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade, Mounted
Infantry, written in 1890 as a letter to his children which paints a descriptive picture of the brutality of
the Trail of Tears ( Two Accounts of the Trail of Tears ). The Trail of Tears was a tragic event, but was
unavoidable due to the circumstances of the time. Many factors preceding the Trail of Tears are
catalysts for the tragic event. Dubbed the Trail of Tears, the United States Army forced the Cherokee
Indians from their home and made them move west of the Mississippi. There were people who were
for the Trail of Tears and those who were not. Some factors which made the Trail of Tears inevitable
was the growing population of America, the attitude of Americans toward natives, and the president of
the time. The American people called for military and political action against the Indian tribes east of
the Mississippi. President Andrew Jackson answered the call and on May 28, 1830 signed the Indian
Removal Act ( Trail of Tears Timeline ). Although this act was only supposed to allow the negotiation
of voluntary removal with the tribes, it made it inevitable for the Indian removal. After Jackson s
victory in 1832 all tribe leaders agreed to the act. The Indian Removal Act was a catalyst for the
abolishment of the traditional rights for the Indians. The Indians had only two options: assimilate and
concede to United States law or leave their homeland. The five tribes most affected

raccoon report Essay
Raccoon Report
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Raccoons (Procyon lotor) belong to the Procyonidae (those who came before the dogs family). This
highly intelligent mammal has a rounded head with a short nose, small ears, and a sturdy body with
minimum length, thick, grayish brown fur. Raccoons are easily identified by a distinctive pattern of
alternating black and yellowish white rings around a large bushy tail. They are also identified by a
unique narrow black face mask with two white patches above the eyes. The average length is 2 to 3
feet long (including the tail) and 12 inches high, weigh 8 to 22 pounds (heaviest in autumn), and live
for 10 to 13 years. Females produce one litter per year, numbering from one to ... Show more content

Although this statement is generally true, raccoons do have definite preferences. Generally speaking,
when fed by humans, they like peanuts, sweets, fruits, bread, peanut butter, and especially cat and dog
food. Like feeding humans, though, don t overload them with treats make those for special occasions,
and leave the healthier stuff for most of the time. In the wild the raccoon prefers: birds, rodents,
crayfish, small reptiles, mollusks, bird eggs, grains, and small grass shoots. Raccoons have a wide
variety in diet and are able to change it when necessary.
MOVEMENT AND MIGRATION
Raccoons do not migrate but they do move within a home range. They will not spend any more time
on one portion of the home range than any other portion.
TERRITORIES AND DEFENSE
Raccoons exhibit solitary social spacing with each adult raccoon remaining in its home range. They
have home ranges rather than territories because with a very diverse diet the resources are not very
defensible, and the home range that males require for mating purposes is too large to defend. Home
range size of the raccoon is largely dependent on resource availability. Smaller home ranges are
associated with more resource availability and larger home ranges with less resource availability.
(Prange, 2004) Home ranges for adult males are usually about 4,800 acres, but again this can vary
with resource distribution as

Shot Techniques in the Film, Do the Right Thing Essay
Shot Techniques in the Film, Do the Right Thing
Spike Lee does many fascinating things from a directorial standpoint, which makes his film (dare I
say, joint), Do the Right Thing so interesting to watch. Writer, director Lee makes much use of the
high and low angle shots. He does this to draw clear contrasts between the two elders of the block, Da
Mayor and Mother Sister and to make conflict more apparent.
Mother Sister certainly believes she is on a higher moral plane than the lowly Mayor and is usually
seen by way of a low angle shot high in her window preaching down and casting criticism on the
passersby, giving her an almost God like characteristic. The high angle shots from her view give Da
Mayor and others on the street a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Briefly the two are in the same eye level shot showing the viewer that Mother Sister and Da Mayor are
very much the same. This also gives her character a much more tangible, mortal quality. They are also
shown this way after Da Mayor risks his life to save a boy from being hit by a car while playing in the
street, but it is not so much because the two are equals as it that the God like Mother Sister is coming
down from her high perch to grace Da Mayor with her sacred opinion that he has done a good thing.
A good example of Lee using high and low angel shots to exemplify conflict is in the two encounters
between Sal and Radio Raheem. Radio Raheem is shown throughout the film only with low angle
shots giving him a threatening, larger than life appearance. When Radio Raheem walks into Sal s
Famous with his boom box blaring the first time it starts a huge altercation between Sal and Raheem.
The camera jumps back and forth between low angle close up shots of Raheem to the reverse high
angle close ups of Sal as the two yell at each other. This confrontation ends with Radio Raheem finally
turning off the music and peace is restored. The second instance occurs just before and serves as the
catalyst for the violent climax.
Lee makes excellent use of these shots as a way of bringing the viewer into the action of the movie.
His use of high and low angle, point of view shots both heighten tension and give the feeling that the

Descriptive Essay On Poplar Hill Farm
Let me tell you about my 1986 visit to a place that sometimes feels forgotten to time and history.
October is usually the time of year when the intense heat of the summer in Mississippi is waning and
cooler conditions are on the way, but the summer of 1986, the heat, still intense. Ordinarily, visiting
with family, an easy task, but this was a bit different. The Poplar Hill Farm a place I had read about,
listened to stories about, the place I have wanted to visit since beginning my research. An adventure of
a lifetime, excited by the opportunity, a bit nervous, questioning my preparedness, but determined to
gain knowledge from Willie and Boles about their lives in Jefferson County. Who knew that this place
in the backwoods of Jefferson County, would become my passion and a love affair with everything
Jefferson County, Mississippi and Poplar Hill Farm/Plantation, Poplar Hill African Methodist
Episcopal Church and finally the Poplar Hill School. Open and receptive to again meet Willie Jackson
and Boles Riley, ask questions and of course, LISTEN to all the stories about their lives and stories of
the ancestors. What came as somewhat of a surprise, and I did not know, these men Willie and Boles,
they were the last two men to have known Delaney Jackson. My first stop, the Fayette Chancery
Clerks Office in downtown Fayette, greeted by Dr. Samuel White, we had become friends over the

Education And Education In Jane Austen s Emma
The 18th to 19th century was a revolutionary time period for women. Jane Austen s Emma was
published during a time where women were campaigning for women s suffrage and for female
education. Emma is a book about a girl that vows not to fall in love, but plays matchmaker for her
friend and acquaintances. The book shows readers what 18th century England looked like for women.
Upper class women were allowed to get an education; however, the education they were taught was
vastly different than men s education. Women learned how to weave and learn French while men
learned about government, culture, philosophy from around the world, etc. However, Emma also
introduces revolutionary concepts like education for women and the radical ideas Mary Wollstonecraft
s A Vindication of Women s Right demonstrated. The beginning of the book summarizes life in
England for women during the 18th century. Women had little opportunity to develop a respectable
position in society because of their lack of intellectual proficiency. This was because of the sexualized
education present during 18th century England. The only way women could move through social
hierarchy was through marriage. An important theme of Emma is marriage and status. In the text,
Volume 1, Chapter 4, Emma states, The yeomanry are precisely the order of people with whom I feel I
can have nothing to do. A degree or two lower, and a creditable appearance might interest me; I might

Napoleon Bonaparte was a patriotic and passionate man. He was a military genius who indelibly
stamped his personality on an era. His theories about waging war, his conduct of campaigns, and
battlefield tactics all became benchmarks for military commanders throughout the 19th century and
today. If I shall be defeated here this day it would be by the greatest general in the modern world

Bonaparte was unquestionably a born leader. Often in the harshest conditions he took this role to
protect his fellow comrades. As a leader, the future emperor of France never took full credit for his
successes and never took full blame for his discredits and defeats. Soldiers usually win the battles and
generals get the credit for them (Napoleon Bonaparte cited in Barnes: back cover) He was loved by his
men through victory and defeat. Even after his initial defeat and banishment by Wellington, he
escaped with the help of loyal supporters, and his defeated army, disillusioned once more with the
hereditary rulers of France, flocked to follow him to Waterloo, where he came very close to defeating
the combined armies of his enemies, despite the demoralisation of the French army by repeated
English victories. Only a hero of Napoleons calibre could achieve this turnaround.

it as a civil case instead of blaming a low level employee and possibly face criminal charges and

Kentucky Clerk Defies Justices On Marriage. New York Times 2 Sept. 2015: A1+. Print. In this
article, Blinder and Perez Pena discuss the decision of a county clerk in Kentucky to deny marriage
license to a homosexual couple. Two couples later tried to confront her along with numerous
journalists. When asked under whose authority she acted she claimed Under God s authority (Blinder
and Perez Pena A1). She claimed that same sex marriage violates her beliefs and thus she will not
comply with the ruling of the justices earlier this year. As aresult, the couple took the clerk to court.
The denial of same sex marriage license directly correlates to the concept of the Good and justice in
the Platonic framework. On the one side, the clerk claims that the Good is what God says and thus
traditional, Biblical marriage. She claims issuing these license would violate her conscience (Blinder
and Perez Pena A15). However, her opponents would claim that she is acting unjustly and further
discriminating against the already oppressed group who until now were unable to marry. Both sides
think the other is acting contrary to what is good and as a result the same sex couple did as Socrates
would want and took her to face punishment for her wrongdoing which as is glorious as he explains,
In proportion to the magnitude of each evil is the glory of being able to ward it off and the shame of
not being able to do so (Plato

Nietzsche s Genealogy Of Morals
During the late 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche examined the history of morals in his Genealogy of
Morals. In his work, Nietzsche reveals the origin of morality, and he goes further to tear down the
basis of Christianity and Kant s Moral Law to show that there is a plurality of conflicting morals in
society. Max Weber, who was a philosopher greatly influenced by Nietzsche, writes further on the
plurality declaring that there is a polytheism that is the result of many conflicting values. Weber
concludes that there is no science of ethics after Nietzsche, so there is no way to determine the correct
value system. There is currently polytheism and a plurality of values that will not be resolved because
all values are valid despite them conflicting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this new polytheism, conflict rages between different gods, and it will go on for all time. It is as it
was in antiquity before the world had been divested of the magic of its gods and demons, only in a
different sense (Science as a Vocation p. 23). The contemporary polytheism is similar to the ancient
one in that it consists of conflict; however, in neo polytheism, the gods are impersonal forces. There is
no magic or personal gods in this new system. There is just conflicting value systems where each
value system is equally valid. This is a difficult reality for people to digest due to the blinding strength
the Christian church has on people. Christianity led people to believe that there was only one way to
live. Any other value system was wrong in the eyes of Christians. People will become more aware that
there is a plurality of value systems, and that each set of values can be considered just as valid as the
next: The destiny of our culture, however, is that we shall once again become more clearly conscious
of this situation after a millennium in which our allegedly or supposedly exclusive reliance on the
glorious pathos of the Christian ethic had blinded us to it (Science as a Vocation p. 24). People will
learn to move away from the ethics laid forth by Christianity and, in the face of polytheism, make

There are several reasons why this commercial of Paulaner Weissbier is considered to be suitable for a

relevance of semiotics. Moreover, the commercial s format can be classified as a personalized format,
which allows for audiences to identify with the people interacting with it.

Exploring Inferential Statistics and Their Discontents
What are degrees of freedom? The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or function of
sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating to the sample
size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008).
How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values minus
the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the degrees of
freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of observations (Jackson,
2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5.

What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed? Transformation
of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in normalizing the
data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or more variables are not
normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the deviations from
normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in normality uses a
square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log transformation, and severely non
normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The aim of data transformation allows
for changing the non normal distributed population data into more useful variable and is not
uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample mean, variance, z scores, histograms,
etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996;
Trochim Donnelly, 2008).

Capitalism is a very complex system that is discuss by many authors, scholars and economists. Robert

Heilbroner begins by comparing traditional society with modern capitalist society and differentiate

It is important to understand the meaning and duties of the two realms of capitalism before learning
their relationship. Meaning and difference between state and the economy is very clear. State of a

institutions of society, whereas, economy of the society deals with labor, capital, natural resources and
the production, distribution of goods and services. Heilbroner reference Adam Smith to describes
duties of the two realms. Adam Smith illustrates the picture of economy in Society of Perfect Liberty

the proper performance of which no human wisdom or knowledge could ever be sufficient the duty of

The Curious Incident Of A Dog In The Nighttime
Author s Style
Writing my recent novel, The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime, was extremely interesting.
The narrator and his point of view is what made my writing style so unique. I wrote this novel in the
first person point of view of a teenage boy affected by Asperger s Syndrome, Christopher Boone.
Writing this novel was unlike anything else I have written. With a main character that is a
mathematical genius yet fails to talk to and understand people, my style was bound to be unique.
Readers get to view the world from the point of view of Christopher in a way unimaginable.
I wrote this novel in a fairly unique format. Instead of the traditional numerical chapters, I numbered

In The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime, word choice was simple (English wasn t his
strength) and a majority of the sentences were short and simple. Ideas were extremely thought out
since it took him more time to process information. Christopher always seemed to be writing
information that would seem to be common sense to others. For example, in Chapter 11 Christopher
wrote Then the police arrived. I like the police. They have uniforms and numbers and you know what
they are meant to be doing.
Since Christopher was a huge fan of Sherlock Homes and solving crimes, I wrote the entire book in a
mysterious mood and tone. The whole book starts and always seems to tie back to the crime scene
where his neighbor s dog is stabbed with a fork. While curiously investigating this, Christopher
uncovers many scandals and secrets that change his life.
My style in The Curious Incident of a Dog in the Nighttime was one unlike any other. An Asperger s

Tankless Heaters Research Paper
Many homeowners are opting to switch to a tankless water heater. Tankless water heaters can also be
covered by a home appliance warranty. Anyone who has ever written a American Home Shield review
knows that a home appliance warranty can be very beneficial. The benefits of tankless water heaters
are numerous. Below are some of the reasons more people are opting to switch to a tankless water
heater:
The Lifespan
Many people who have written an American Home Shield review have noticed that their water heater
has only lasted for eight to 12 years. However, a tankless water heater can potentially last much longer
than that. In fact, your tankless water heater may last over 20 years. The key to making sure that your

Tankless water heaters only use a fraction of the energy that traditional water heaters use. While
traditional water heaters will store water inside of the tank, tankless water heaters will only use water
when needed. This is why tankless water heaters do not have to use as much energy.
Keep in mind that you will be paying more initially for your hot water heater. However, the money
that you save with your hot water heater will make it a worthwhile investment. You may be able to cut
your energy costs by 30 percent each year.
Save Space
Many people who live in smaller homes have opted to switch to tankless water heaters. They take up
significantly less space than traditional water heaters. In fact, the average tankless water heater is only
1/4 of the size of a regular water heater. You will have more floor or closet space.
You Will Have Cleaner Water
Traditional water heaters are prone to scale and rust. This rust can end up in the water that you use to
drink and bathe. On the other hand, you will be able to have cleaner water if you have a tankless water
heater.

Glucose And Prostate Cancer Case Study
this large prospective study, we observed a weak positive association between serum levels of glucose
and prostate cancer death, but no associations were observed for triglycerides and total cholesterol.
Similar positive associations were seen for glucose and triglycerides with overall, CVD or other
deaths. Hypercholesterolemia was positively associated with CVD death.
Glucose
Consistent with other studies we found positive associations between glucose and prostate cancer
death (10,29). Other studies yielded non significant associations between diabetes and prostate cancer
death, but the associations were positive in most of these studies (30 32). Although, previous
epidemiological studies provide evidence suggesting that the severity ... Show more content on

In contrast, another study reported a non significant inverse association between triglycerides and
prostate cancer specific death (32).
Despite the lack of association between triglycerides and prostate cancer in the present study,
experimental studies suggest that triglycerides may induce prostate cancer progression. For instance,
several studies found that triglyceride rich remnant like particles stimulated PC 3 cell proliferation by
increasing activity of MAPK, MEK/ERK and/or Akt pathways, which are associated with controlling
cell growth and proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle arrest and lipid biosynthesis (39,40).
Total cholesterol
Similar to the HUNT 2 study, we did not find any association between total cholesterol and prostate
cancer death in the overall study population (32). Interestingly, though, the findings based on quartiles
of total
cholesterol and our spline model suggested a non significant inverse association between total
cholesterol and prostate cancer death. Haggstrom et al. also reported an inverse, but non significant,
association between total cholesterol and prostate cancer death (8). This finding may be due to the
influence of latent cancer. However, in analyses where we excluded the first two years of follow up,
the tendency remained.
Although epidemiological studies, so far, do not support an association between total cholesterol and
prostate cancer survival, an association between

Standardized Testing Are A Waste Of Time Essay
Standardized Test Are a Waste of Time According to Diane Ravitch, Sometimes, the most brilliant and
intelligent minds do not shine in standardized tests because they do not have standardized minds. Her
point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students must take
does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized testing is a
popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college admission. These
exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the examiners must
complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder, which causes anxiety
in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students have learned and their
intelligence from school and life. The main purpose of testing is to set a standard and have a baseline
for the knowledge taught and students should know for everyone involved in the educational process,
such as teachers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schools should put more emphasis on the growth and development of a student, instead of ranking and
determining their worth based on test scores and grades. Standardized exams are an unreliable way to
grade students and prepare them for college. In addition, they do not teach or advocate life skills that
students need when they are developing and later on in life. As Albert Einstein has said, Everybody is
a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it
is stupid. Einstein s quote perfectly describes today s education system. Not everyone processes
information the same way or has the same talents; therefore, one test cannot measure a student s
abilities, talents, and

The Effects Of Net Neutrality
Net neutrality has been around for quite some time but it was up until now when that us internet users
really pay attention to it because our President Donald Trump wants to pass a new net neutrality
rule/bill that makes people pay to use apps that were meant to be free like Facebook and Twitter that
millions use. June 2003 Tim Wu coins the phrase network neutrality which was later shortened to net
neutrality . (Tim Wu) According to this quote net neutrality has been around since the summer of 2003
but didn t really take any effect until February 2004 when the U.S. Federal Communications
Commission introduced four principles of network freedom . (ProQuest Staff) now therefore net
neutrality did not affect communities until February of 2004.

Campus Shootings Essay
College Campuses in the Line of Sight
We all hear about mass shooting where a number of people are killed and we pray that we are never
caught in a situation like the one at Virginia Tech or Oikos University. But the likelihood that it
happens at your school, your kids school, or your friends school is at an all time high. From 2000 to
2010 nearly 70 people were killed in college campus shootings in the United States. This number
more than doubles the number of killing from the 25 years prior to 2000. Not only are their more
shooting but there are a proliferating number of sexual assaults happening on college campuses, in
2009 alone the number of sexual assault on college campuses was nearly 2,600 (Arrigo 120). This
combined with mass media coverage has generated passionate debates on how to best stop mass
shootings and other violent crimes on college campuses. Many pro gun activists have started to push
for and endorse bills allowing students and faculty to conceal carry handguns on campuses. Campus
carry is a relatively new phenomenon and there is little to no evidence to corroborate the idea that it
increases campus security. Those who have not gone through rigorous instructional courses, like
police officers, will be unable to stop a mass shooting, sexual assaults, or other violent crimes on
college campuses. Instead, allowing students to carry will increase crime rates on campuses and will
result in more fatalities due to guns(Ultius). This is why students should not be

  • 2. Analysis of Barbie-Q by Sandra Cisneros Essay Analysis of Barbie Q by Sandra Cisneros Cisneros Barbie Q really stood out as a great piece of literature. Barbie Q is a quick glimpse into the life of a poverty stricken child and her way of life. Though my life as of yet has been rather short, my earliest childhood memories are overwhelmingly my fondest and her account really struck a chord. Sandra Cisneros accurate reflection of a young mind and intricate writing methods expressed great emotion. Her portrayal of a child s mentality evoked my childhood recollections while her realistic tale of childhood bliss in the midst of poverty caused great empathy on my part making this my preferred work we studied. Sandra s tale brought back much nostalgia for my younger days. Those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Skipping , humming , loopity loops , and pirouetting are silly things that everyone has done as a child, including myself. These reminders set me in a time machine back to my favorite days when the only thing important to me was my own happiness. Another less obvious reflection of a puerile mind is the same story . In this tale of a young girl s game, Sandra Cisneros refers to a pretend play the girls have made up for their Barbie s to act out. This play is referred to as the same story and really hit on what childhood playtime was all about. I remember doing the exact same thing as a child with my brothers (except we were cops and robbers), where we played out the same actions over and over, day after day. Cisneros recognized this to be common to all children and smartly places it for the reader to reflect on their past, as I did on my own. Sandra Cisneros evokes great sympathy for her characters, which added to my favor of the story. In a first few sentences, Sandra has already revealed to the reader the poor social status of the young girls and continues to do so throughout the tale. She particularly points out their pauper way of life by repeating the small amount of toys the young girls have. She mentions all the girls could afford was one extra outfit apiece then one paragraph later recalls again our one outfit apiece . Also, Cisneros touches on the sock dress the girls made ... Our new president Donald Trump is using executive orders to try and replace Obamacare. What are executive orders? Executive order are orders that the current president gives to the government and basically has the full force of power to make changes. Obamacare was a plan that our former president Barak Obama created to make affordable healthcare and insurance (Amadeo). What are the other major changes with Donald Trump s executive plan on removing Obamacare? According to the company Motely Fool , With a spotless cancelation taking a gander right now, Congressional Republicans may swing to a procedure known as compromise, which would enable them to annul the segments of Obamacare that effect the government spending plan. All together for a compromise bill to pass the Senate, a lion s share of 51 votes is all that would be required, and Republicans voting along partisan loyalties can achieve this aggregate. Compromise would wipe out Obamacare s endowments, and the Common Duty Installment, which would positively affect how a huge number of Americans set up their charges (William). Another issue is that on one hand, the ACA is yet the wellbeing rule that everyone must follow, regardless of the possibility that it is by all accounts living on re appropriated time. This implies the individual order is still law, and the individuals who pick not to buy medical coverage ought to pay the SRP, unless they re excluded. Then again, without line 61 filled in, the IRS has no certification that the citizen paid the SRP or was even safeguarded in 2016 (William). The IRS has proposed that in the event if it has a question about a specific expense form it ll catch up with those citizens after the recording procedure is over. Notwithstanding, the IRS has likewise already said that it wouldn t embellish compensation or pursue a man s property for not paying the SRP (William). Trump s official request has made it almost unimaginable for the IRS to gather the SRP or to solidly confirm a people s medical coverage status. Globalization By Arthur Macewan Perhaps a cliché to mention, but an important aspect of human life which has brought the entire race to where it stands today, is the very act and ability to communicate with each other; and finally in the 19th century, this ability to communicate culminated to that process of ultimate human integration which is known as globalization . Although the 19th century is considered as the beginning of the kind of globalization that describes the modern world today, the process is believed to have begun during the times of great voyages and discoveries. • 6. The Existence Of God And The Battle Between Good And Evil The existence of God and the battle between good and evil has been a topic of much discussion for centuries. Through the philosophical scope, there is a Problem of Evil that challenges the existence an all powerful God if there is evil in the world. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, was a German philosopher who argued about the topic of the problem of evil. Leibniz argued that (1) evil is not necessary; (2) that there is evil in the world because as humans we are restricted in our knowledge since we are merely made in the image of God, but we are not God and thus we are exposed to evil; and (3) God didn t create evil but evil exists because of the free will of humans; all of which I believe provides a clear solution to the problem of evil. The problem of evil states that if evil exists in this world then there is no reasonable way that an all powerful, benevolent God can exist, since if so, he would have made the world without evil. However, Leibniz argues that evil is not necessary but it is a choice that we make. Evil is not absolute and is not existent in all possible worlds since it is up to human choice. Evil is due to human free will (Bailey 105). This theory proves that evil is not something that is absolute contrary to the existence of God. However, it is something that is chosen and acted on by human, showing, evil is not necessary or directly connect with God. This provides a solution to the problem of evil because if evil is subject to the choice of humans, then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Did Mark Antony really possess all of these traits? Mark Antony was a much simpler man than his portrayal. Mark Antony embodied a stereotypical jock. Brutus stated Antony s propensity to sports, to wildness and much company (II.i.196). Mark Antony participated in the race of Lupercal, an equestrian race in which athletes participated during a Roman festival. Wildness could have alluded to Antony s gambling habits, and much company could reference Antony s inability to confine himself to one woman (II.i.196). In spite of Antony s faithlessness toward his wife, he held extreme loyalty to Caesar. Antony became very emotional about the death of Caesar. Therefore, for a desired learning outcome to be attained, meticulous planning of the tasks by the teacher must be prepared. Tasks set should provide a purposeful balance of instructions and experiment enabling learners to make effective use of the DT tool in their learning and at the same time allow the possibility of exploration. Failure to properly plan activities will result in inadequate progress made by learners and unsuccessful integration of the digital tool in lesson. She quickly returns once she realizes she is missing her key. While both are now searching for the key in the dark both of their hands meet and it is love. Puccini makes fluctuations in tempo, which affects the mood of the song. It changes from and innocent tone to a more majestic tone towards the end. The continuous dialogue between the characters allows the elaboration of the story on how they met and fell in love. This movement is written in a time signature of 2/4 in b flat minor. • 22. Running With Scissors By Augusten Burroughs Child development is the biological, psychological and emotional changes that occur in individuals between birth and the end of adolescence. (Wiki) Child development is inevitably altered when obstacles such as mental instability and abandonment arise, ultimately affecting children going into adulthood. Adolescents are very unlikely to reach their full potential without the guidance of an adult figure, such as a mother, father, sibling, or guardian. Adult figures are essential to a growing child because they exemplify decision making, wisdom, and overall life lessons on how to grow up. Although some children do have an adult figure in their life, they aren t always the best influences for their children, adults also face their own battles which can reflect upon their exterior, ultimately having a critical effect on a child s development. For example, in Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs, the main character Augusten lives with his mother who suffers from a mental disorder who guides him into a pathway of chaos and disorder. Augusten learns to cope with no guidance, but still faces many issues that could have been resolved with a reassuring adult figure. Situations that affect adults can range from divorce, alcoholism, and depression. Although not as talked about, teenage parenting also plays a big role in the way a child will develop. In most cases, teenage pregnancies are unplanned and as a result young teenage girls either decide to keep, abort, or put the baby ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Causes Of The Trail Of Tears This first hand account by John G Burnett, a member of the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade, Mounted Infantry, written in 1890 as a letter to his children which paints a descriptive picture of the brutality of the Trail of Tears ( Two Accounts of the Trail of Tears ). The Trail of Tears was a tragic event, but was unavoidable due to the circumstances of the time. Many factors preceding the Trail of Tears are catalysts for the tragic event. Dubbed the Trail of Tears, the United States Army forced the Cherokee Indians from their home and made them move west of the Mississippi. There were people who were for the Trail of Tears and those who were not. Some factors which made the Trail of Tears inevitable was the growing population of America, the attitude of Americans toward natives, and the president of the time. The American people called for military and political action against the Indian tribes east of the Mississippi. President Andrew Jackson answered the call and on May 28, 1830 signed the Indian Removal Act ( Trail of Tears Timeline ). Although this act was only supposed to allow the negotiation of voluntary removal with the tribes, it made it inevitable for the Indian removal. After Jackson s victory in 1832 all tribe leaders agreed to the act. The Indian Removal Act was a catalyst for the abolishment of the traditional rights for the Indians. The Indians had only two options: assimilate and concede to United States law or leave their homeland. The five tribes most affected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This highly intelligent mammal has a rounded head with a short nose, small ears, and a sturdy body with minimum length, thick, grayish brown fur. Raccoons are easily identified by a distinctive pattern of alternating black and yellowish white rings around a large bushy tail. They are also identified by a unique narrow black face mask with two white patches above the eyes. The average length is 2 to 3 feet long (including the tail) and 12 inches high, weigh 8 to 22 pounds (heaviest in autumn), and live for 10 to 13 years. In the wild the raccoon prefers: birds, rodents, crayfish, small reptiles, mollusks, bird eggs, grains, and small grass shoots. Raccoons have a wide variety in diet and are able to change it when necessary. MOVEMENT AND MIGRATION Raccoons do not migrate but they do move within a home range. They will not spend any more time on one portion of the home range than any other portion. TERRITORIES AND DEFENSE Raccoons exhibit solitary social spacing with each adult raccoon remaining in its home range. They have home ranges rather than territories because with a very diverse diet the resources are not very defensible, and the home range that males require for mating purposes is too large to defend. Home range size of the raccoon is largely dependent on resource availability. Smaller home ranges are associated with more resource availability and larger home ranges with less resource availability. (Prange, 2004) Home ranges for adult males are usually about 4,800 acres, but again this can vary with resource distribution as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Shot Techniques in the Film, Do the Right Thing Essay Shot Techniques in the Film, Do the Right Thing Spike Lee does many fascinating things from a directorial standpoint, which makes his film (dare I say, joint), Do the Right Thing so interesting to watch. Writer, director Lee makes much use of the high and low angle shots. He does this to draw clear contrasts between the two elders of the block, Da Mayor and Mother Sister and to make conflict more apparent. Mother Sister certainly believes she is on a higher moral plane than the lowly Mayor and is usually seen by way of a low angle shot high in her window preaching down and casting criticism on the passersby, giving her an almost God like characteristic. Briefly the two are in the same eye level shot showing the viewer that Mother Sister and Da Mayor are very much the same. This also gives her character a much more tangible, mortal quality. A good example of Lee using high and low angel shots to exemplify conflict is in the two encounters between Sal and Radio Raheem. Radio Raheem is shown throughout the film only with low angle shots giving him a threatening, larger than life appearance. When Radio Raheem walks into Sal s Famous with his boom box blaring the first time it starts a huge altercation between Sal and Raheem. The camera jumps back and forth between low angle close up shots of Raheem to the reverse high angle close ups of Sal as the two yell at each other. This confrontation ends with Radio Raheem finally turning off the music and peace is restored. The second instance occurs just before and serves as the catalyst for the violent climax. Lee makes excellent use of these shots as a way of bringing the viewer into the action of the movie. His use of high and low angle, point of view shots both heighten tension and give the feeling that the characters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Education And Education In Jane Austen s Emma The 18th to 19th century was a revolutionary time period for women. Jane Austen s Emma was published during a time where women were campaigning for women s suffrage and for female education. Emma is a book about a girl that vows not to fall in love, but plays matchmaker for her friend and acquaintances. The book shows readers what 18th century England looked like for women. Upper class women were allowed to get an education; however, the education they were taught was vastly different than men s education. Women learned how to weave and learn French while men learned about government, culture, philosophy from around the world, etc. However, Emma also introduces revolutionary concepts like education for women and the radical ideas Mary Wollstonecraft s A Vindication of Women s Right demonstrated. The beginning of the book summarizes life in England for women during the 18th century. Women had little opportunity to develop a respectable position in society because of their lack of intellectual proficiency. This was because of the sexualized education present during 18th century England. The only way women could move through social hierarchy was through marriage. An important theme of Emma is marriage and status. In the text, Volume 1, Chapter 4, Emma states, The yeomanry are precisely the order of people with whom I feel I can have nothing to do. In this article, Blinder and Perez Pena discuss the decision of a county clerk in Kentucky to deny marriage license to a homosexual couple. Two couples later tried to confront her along with numerous journalists. When asked under whose authority she acted she claimed Under God s authority (Blinder and Perez Pena A1). She claimed that same sex marriage violates her beliefs and thus she will not comply with the ruling of the justices earlier this year. As aresult, the couple took the clerk to court. The denial of same sex marriage license directly correlates to the concept of the Good and justice in the Platonic framework. On the one side, the clerk claims that the Good is what God says and thus traditional, Biblical marriage. She claims issuing these license would violate her conscience (Blinder and Perez Pena A15). However, her opponents would claim that she is acting unjustly and further discriminating against the already oppressed group who until now were unable to marry. Both sides think the other is acting contrary to what is good and as a result the same sex couple did as Socrates would want and took her to face punishment for her wrongdoing which as is glorious as he explains, In proportion to the magnitude of each evil is the glory of being able to ward it off and the shame of not being able to do so (Plato ... Max Weber, who was a philosopher greatly influenced by Nietzsche, writes further on the plurality declaring that there is a polytheism that is the result of many conflicting values. The contemporary polytheism is similar to the ancient one in that it consists of conflict; however, in neo polytheism, the gods are impersonal forces. There is no magic or personal gods in this new system. There is just conflicting value systems where each value system is equally valid. The degrees of freedom (df) of an estimate is the number or function of sample size of information on which the estimate is based and are free to vary relating to the sample size (Jackson, 2012; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). How are the calculated? The degrees of freedom for an estimate equals the number of values minus the number of factors expected en route to the approximation in question. Therefore, the degrees of freedom of an estimate of variance is equal to N 1, where N is the number of observations (Jackson, 2012). Given a single set of six numbers (N) the df = 6 1 = 5. What are your options if your dependent variable scores are not normally distributed? Transformation of data using a logarithm, square root, reciprocal, or some other function assists in normalizing the data and correcting for heteroscedasiticy, nonlinearity, and outliers when one or more variables are not normally distributed (Abrams, 1999; Bland Altman, 1996). The extent of the deviations from normality determines the specific transformation used. A moderate difference in normality uses a square root transformation, more substantially non normal uses a log transformation, and severely non normal would use an inverse transformation (Abrams, 1999). The aim of data transformation allows for changing the non normal distributed population data into more useful variable and is not uncommon as the basic statistical summaries such as the sample mean, variance, z scores, histograms, etc., are all transformed data and require the data follow a particular distribution (Bland Altman, 1996; Trochim Donnelly, 2008). Her point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students must take does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized testing is a popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college admission. These exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the examiners must complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder, which causes anxiety in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students have learned and their intelligence from school and life. But the likelihood that it happens at your school, your kids school, or your friends school is at an all time high. From 2000 to 2010 nearly 70 people were killed in college campus shootings in the United States. This number more than doubles the number of killing from the 25 years prior to 2000. Not only are their more shooting but there are a proliferating number of sexual assaults happening on college campuses, in 2009 alone the number of sexual assault on college campuses was nearly 2,600 (Arrigo 120).
