Prometheus s Journey
A new beginning was laid forth the day Prometheus discovered Individualism and the importance of
the ego, though for now, he had an experiential task laid upon his broad shoulders. Forevermore, he
will continue to spread the ideology which has blessed him, Gaia, and his newly born son, Odysseus.
Now that several years have passed since his grand discovery, his plans were to awe his once former
brothers and sisters with his new found knowledge. Moreover, Prometheus had been working on the
marvels of the old world with a working automobile (being a classic red convertible ford with a V8
engine) the most important. Likewise, he planned to use this automobile to travel to the dreaded city.
With these new tools, Prometheus will once again set towards ... Show more content on

It felt like yesterday to Prometheus, for it was not every day you get such a euphoric moment. Though
upon his return to the city it was deprived of any sign of it having a life. This came as a shock to
Prometheus for he felt he was obligated to liberate his once former friends. As Prometheus walked
throughout the city in search of his former department, there happened to be a smell so rancid it made
him almost vomit just by being there. Upon entering the Street Sweeper Department, he realized there
was a man lying flat on the smooth marble floor. This man was no other than International 4 8818 a
former colleague of his. Prometheus immediately asked what had become of the city to which
International started to respond. He explained to Prometheus that a plague had wiped out many the
people and those who were left without the immediate side effects had their off springs dying off as
soon as they left the womb. Afterward, International no longer has the will to continue asking
Prometheus to leave him to his suffering to which Prometheus immediately obeyed. Now with great
remorse, Prometheus sets course back home and he vowed that he would search for a bastion of
Civilization to which he may share his

Differences Between Love Canal And Chernobyl
Love Canal and Chernobyl are two different environmental disasters that share many similarities, yet
have their differences too. Love canal is located in Niagara Falls, New York and is the site of a seventy
acre landfill. This landfill caused a major environmental pollution disaster that affected hundreds of
people. Toxic waste began to invade homes, backyards, and playgrounds. Two hundred and forty eight
different chemicals were found buried beneath this community. Eight hundred families had to relocate.
(Softschools.com). Chernobyl is located in Ukraine, this natural disaster was the explosion of reactor
number four, and occurred while under maintenance check. This explosion let out two hundred times
the amount of radiation than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Seven Million people were affected, and three
hundred and fifty thousand people were forced out of their homes and relocated. This explosion
damaged sixty three thousand square miles of land (friendsofchernobyl.org). It is important to realize
although differences are present, both Love Canal and Chernobyl had similar effects on humans and
the land. Many people suffered from these disasters, and had to change their lifestyles because of the
effects done to the land.
Chernobyl and Love Canal both had many negative effects on humans and the land near these places.
The land in both events was impacted drastically. Neither places could grow food that could be
consumed anymore. In Chernobyl people who harvested food were

Kruskal Algorithm Essay
Kruskal s Algorithm
Introduction:
In 1956, the minimum spanning tree algorithm was firstly described by Kruskal. In same paper where
he rediscovered the Jarnik s algorithm. The algorithm was rediscovered in 1957 by Loberman and
Weinberger, but avoided to be renamed after them. The main idea of Kruskal s algorithms is as
follows:
Scan all the edges in the increase of weight order;
[If any edge is safe, keep it (i.e. add it to the set A)]
Kruskal s Algorithm is directly based on generic MST algorithm. It builds MST in the forest. On the
initial level, each of the vertex is in its own tree in the forest. Then the algorithm consider each of the
edge in turn, order by the increase of weight. If any edge (u, v) connects two of the different ... Show

We assume that we use the disjoint set forest implementation. With the union by rank and path

first set in line 1 takes O (1) time, and the time to sort the edges in the line 4 is O (E lg E).The for loop
of lines 5 8 performs O (E). Find set and Union operations on the disjoint set forest. Along with the
make set operations, these take total O ((V+E)a(V)) time, where a is the very slowly growing function.

Bernal Del Castillo View Of Doña Marina
Bernal Diaz del Castillo view of Doña Marina was a loyal, passionate and forgiving person. Doña
Marina story talks about how she was given away by her parents to some Indians and was claimed
dead by her parents. The reason for all this trouble was because her mom and stepdad preferred her
stepbrother and her parents wanted him to be inherent in their fortune. Without knowing they gave
Doña Marina better life because those Indians gave her to Cortez who took care of her and made an
important woman. She met her husband Juan Jaramillo during an expedition with Cortez. The reason I
believe that Bernal sees Doña as loyal is that Doña was offered a very high position in Spain because
she was the one that translated new Spain to Mexico language,

Essay Violence in theTitus Andronicus
Whilst the Greek and Roman predecessors of revenge tragedy showed little compunction in gruesome
on stage violence, the Elizabethan spectators were, by the time of publication and performance of
Shakespearian plays, a more educated audience who would appreciate the poetic style and subtle
references to classical literature. This is not to say that the sixteenth century public were sensitive to
acts of startling brutality; public executions and bear baiting were frequent occurrences that no doubt
permeated the psyche of a nation. It has been argued that Shakespeare, conscious of his
contemporaries efforts in this genre decided to `out do his predecessors but a far more probable
explanation is that Shakespeare, accommodating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is such a considerable amount of violence in Titus, varying in intensity and degree that it might
seem hard to draw any firm conclusions about its impact. One can, however, obtain the idea that the
violence within the play has a far greater impact on both the audience and the on stage characters
when accompanied by a rhetoric or language that either juxtaposes or reinforces the brutality. The way
in which characters react to violence, evident through their speech and imagery, can manipulate our
responses to them and instil either an affinity or indifference to their personalities. Titus first
appearance in Act I Scene I is an example of this manipulation. His cold, calculating rejection of
Tamora s plea for her son s life, juxtaposed with the solemn, funeral rhetoric give us the impression of
a character who can flit between brutality and normality very easily, and who demonstrates little
compassion when doing so.
Upon his entrance, Titus talks passionately about the deaths of his sons, and his return to Rome as a
grieving father. The eternal rest and peace of his children s souls preoccupies the protagonist s mind,
and his self reflecting vocabulary indicates a pensive state of mind. Titus deliberately places internal
juxtapositions within his lines, `victorious , `mourning (I.i.70), `fraught , `precious lading (L.71 2),
and `alive , `dead and

A Lost Lady By Willa Cather
The setting of A Lost Lady is the beautiful prairies and flyover regions of the United States. These
open areas of rolling hills, grasslands, and wildflowers are often overlooked, but are none the less a
pleasant view, as well as an important part of America s history. Another aspect of America s history
that is often overlooked, but not as pleasant, is the idea of gender roles and the objectification of
women. In Willa Cather s A Lost Lady, Mrs. Forrester is able to break through and overcome such
objectivity that her husband, Captain Forrester, and her younger friend, Niel Herbert have placed on
her. To fully grasp Marian Forrester s breakthrough of female objectivity, it is important to understand
how her husband objectified her throughout the novel. First, the Forresters are prominent figures in
their society and are viewed as a high class family because of his work on the railroads and for his
beautiful wife. Being so well respected, Captain Forrester often had company and visitors to his house
for dinner or other gatherings. During such events, Marian Forrester s sole role was to greet those
visitors. This is an example of Captain Forrester s objectification because it gratified him [Captain
Forrester] to see men who were older than himself leap nimbly to the ground and run up the front
steps as Mrs. Forrester came out on the porch to greet them (Cather 10). The quote from the novel
expains that many men were impressed or infatuated with Marian s physical

SLAVERY
The burning issue that led to the disruption of the union, however, was the debate over the future of
slavery. That dispute led to secession, and secession brought about a war in which the Northern and
Western states and territories fought to preserve the Union, and the South fought to establish Southern
independence as a new confederation of states under its own constitution. In the late 18th century, the
abolitionist movement began in the north and the country began to divide over the issue between north
and south. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery in all new western territories, which
southern states saw as a threat to the institution of slavery itself. With the election in 1860 of Abraham
Lincoln, who ran on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were those in the antislavery movement that proposed legislation that would actually purchase
the freedom of slaves, as had happened in Europe. This sort of solution would have ended slavery, but
done it without the violence and death that the Civil War brought.
In contrast, the abolitionist movement sought to end slavery by any means necessary. So, famous
abolitionist John Brown resorted to theft, and to attacks on federal officers, in his effort to end slavery.
The radical abolitionists had no interested in ending slavery in a peaceful or legal way. They wanted to
end slavery at the point of the bayonet.
SECESIONISM
Before the Civil War, the country was dividing between north and south. Issues included States Rights
but centered mostly on the issue of slavery, which was prominent in the south but increasingly banned
by northern states.
With the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, who ran on a message of anti slavery, the Southern
states felt it was only a matter of time before the institution was outlawed completely. South Carolina
became the first state to officially secede from the United States on December 20, 1860. Four months
later, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana seceded as well. Later Virginia,
Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee joined them, and soon afterward, the people of these states
elected Jefferson Davis as president of the newly formed

The Pros And Cons Of Israel s Occupation Of Gaza And West...
Little did Israel know that the Six Day War would turn into a fifty year occupation of Gaza and the
West Bank? During this occupation the Israeli Government placed settlement and settlers in the
disputed territory for the purpose of keeping a buffer between Israel and the Palestinians as well as
using the settlements and settlers as a means to keeping Gaza and the West Bank. During 2005 the
Israeli government began removing settlers and turning the land back over to the Palestinian s with the
thought that holding on to it had become too big of a problem and it had become to taxing to the
Israeli government (Monitor, 2015).
With the peace process stalled Israel would best serve its National interests by leaving the settlers and
settlements in Gaza and the West Bank. Without a Palestinian peace deal the financial cost and man

Clubfoot Essay
CLUBFOOT
Clubfoot is defined as a congenital foot deformity characterized by a kidney shaped foot that turns
inward and points down. The forefoot is curved inward, the heel is bent inward, and the ankle is fixed
in planter flexion with the toes pointing down. Shortened tendons on the inside of the lower leg,
together with abnormally shaped bones that restrict movement outwards cause the foot to turn
inwards. A tightened achilles tendon causes the foot to point downwards. The medical term for
clubfoot is talipes equinovarus . It is the most common congenital disorder of the lower extremity.

The majority of clubfeet results from abnormal development of the muscles, tendons, and bones while
the baby is forming in the uterus. Genetic and environmental factors in the development of the fetus
seem to also be some of the causes. The disturbance of the normal growing foot probably occurs at
about the eighth week of pregnancy. The cause of the foot growing deformed is unknown, but believed
to have something to do with heredity. Many cases of clubfoot do not have easily identifiable causes.
The goal of treatment is to achieve and maintain as normal as a foot as possible. The extent of the
required treatment varies, depending upon the rigidity of the foot. Treatment may take several months,
but most children learn to crawl, stand, and walk at the normal age. There are a couple different ways
to go about treating clubfoot, the two most perfered being manipulation and casting, and surgery.
Clubfoot is most common in children who suffer from spina bifida who have an L4 or L5 motor level.
Many orthopedic surgeons instead of serial casting suggest early taping and gentle manipulation
followed by an application of a well padded splint. The reason for this is because serial casting can
cause skin irritations and breakdown. Another technique manipulation and casting is a treatment that
begins shortly after birth. It involves slowly stretching out the tightened muscles and holding the foot

Mitron Employee Performance Summary
There are some organizations that uses the team based pay approach to improve performance at the
organization (Balkin Montemayor, 2000). Team based bonuses may work for some business.
Consequently, I am not convinced that this approach is beneficial to Mitron. The scenario states that
technicians with multiple skills often have to fill in for those that are absent or lack the skill needed in
a team, that is needed to complete the production. That individual requires the flexibility to be rotated
to any given team, at any time. The technician at Mitron would only benefit from having the
knowledge or compensated for acquiring a skill related to the job. Furthermore, no additional
compensation would be granted for assisting in the task completion. The technician would receive
compensation as a team as do any other member of that team, that did not perform at the same rate.
Recommendations would be made to Holly for elimination of the team based bonuses at Mitron. The
scenario states that technicians receive very little incentives for attending trainings. THe scenario also

will provide me with tennis balls as well as courts and nets that are an appropriate size for my circuit,
or at the school tennis courts where I will need my own balls; I will use my own tennis racket. The
main risk of injury is from overusing my right arm and shoulder, which could cause overuse injuries
such as tennis elbow . To prevent these as best as possible I will be carrying out thorough warm ups
before each session in my programme, and a thorough warm down at the end of each session.
The stations in my circuit will vary in length to accommodate my different levels of ability for each of
the different stations exercises. The stations in the circuit are all designed in accordance with my
weaknesses and other areas of my game that I want to improve on. They are all very different
exercises, which helps to relieve tedium, as well as giving resting time from the more tiring activities
whilst giving rest from the less arduous ones. Because I am fairly fit from playing tennis throughout
the summer, and from games at school, I will not need to concentrate as hard on the fitness improving

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Analysis
Imagine what would happen if a soldier invited someone to a war zone to be with them. One of the
most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of Song Tra
Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the story is told by
Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts out with a few
soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp. However, after thinking
about it, one of them, named Mark Fossie, decides to fly in his girlfriend. He eventually did and he
and her hung out together and had a good time. His girlfriend, Mary Anne Bell, was very curious
about war and weapons and things of that nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these
color references he is referring to Vietnam. Eventually, her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not blue,
though, but a bright jungle green. What the author was trying to say was that Mary became one with
the cruel, unforgiving land. This occurred when her transformation was complete and she had turned
from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to help give the reader an image of how
much she had changed, O Brien includes some really disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds
her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow,
like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one
overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important
because it gives the reader a vivid details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how
messed up this girl has become and how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before
she visited. Finally, her transformation was symbolic of the one happening to not only the soldiers, but
also to the families and people of America. This war was changing people, making the soldiers into
different people and affecting the lives of the family members who are worried and/or grief

Ap Bio Vitamin D Benefits
Vitamin D is essential for the human body to function there are various ways in which it benefits the
body. Long ago it has been established that Vitamin D is important for healthy bones, this is because
Vitamin D enables the absorption of vital minerals. These minerals include Calcium and Phosphate
both can only be useful to bones when the needed amount of Vitamin D is present in the body to
absorb it. The elements create strong bones and protect against disorders such as osteomalacia, which
is the softening of bones. This vitamin is also needed for your immune system to function properly,
since it helps combat infections and viruses. The immune system is not the only system in your body

Saddam Hussein Ideology
Saddam Hussein has been regarded for centuries as a lethal dictator that led Iraq into the despair and
poverty we see today. However, despite his dictatorial methods of leading his country, Hussein
accomplished some astonishing heights for his beloved country; heights that were destroyed by the
American invasion in 2001. Now, it seems that the question on everyone s lips is; Was Iraq better off
before or after the American invasion? and it seems that many Iraqi citizens are more inclined to
believe that their country was far more proficient under the rule of Saddam Hussein. Moreover, many

The Effects Of Coal Ash On The Health Of Water Systems
Introduction Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal in power plants and is composed mainly of
aluminum and silicon oxides. This ash is commonly stored away in dump sites, only to leach out
solutions of concentrated toxic heavy metals. Such issues are detrimental to the health of water
systems, posing both a human and environmental health risk. However, there are solutions to this
problem. Coal ash possesses unique chemical properties that allow for the remediation of other
environmental concerns, such as the treatment of soil polluted with heavy metals, the removal of
nutrients from wastewater, and the remediation of acid mine drainage in streams. Coal ash is known to
contain a number of different toxic metals, the exact content dependent upon the coal it is formed
from. Containing this potential pollution hazard is an expensive problem, as approximately 75% of all
ash generated is stored in landfills. In these sites, rainwater can leach out toxic metals including
mercury, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, molybdenum, lead and selenium. As over 500 million tons of
ash are produced each year, there s an increasing environmental health hazard to the surrounding
water systems of these landfills. Pollution can spread to municipal water systems and potentially
poison humans. As such, figuring out a better solution to deal with the unused coal ash is of significant
importance. Current uses of coal ash primarily include the formation of concrete due the pozzolanic
properties of coal

Yet, as said before, it is Big Daddy who is most dependent on his relationship with things. He has a

mind he has the crazy hope that one of his purchases will be life everlasting! (683 act 2)

Papers On Susan B Anthony
Susan B. Anthony
On February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts, a woman by the name of Susan Brownell Anthony
was born to parents Daniel and Lucy (Read) Anthony. She was the second born of a strongly rooted
Quaker family of eight (Hist.Bio. 1). Because they lived in a Quaker neighborhood, Susan was not
heavily exposed to slavery. The family made anti slavery talks an almost daily conversation over the
dinner table. She also saw men and women on the same level (Stoddard 36). A hard working father,
who was not only a cotton manufacturer, but a Quaker Abolitionist also, prevented his children from
what he called childish things such as toys, games and music. He felt that they would distract his
children from reaching their peak of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Together they published The Revolution , a New York liberal weekly magazine. This magazine would
soon parish and put Susan B. Anthony in debt of 10,000 dollars (Boynick)!
According to author, Hope Stoddard, Susan B. Anthony was a firm, upright person. She wasn t afraid
to show it to anyone and everyone who wanted to know how she felt. One day, during a marriage
custody conference, an abolitionist by the name of Rev. A. D. Mayo asked Anthony, in modified
words, by what means could she take part in discussions on marriage when she was not married
herself. She responded to this by saying, in revised words, that he was not a slave, so maybe he should
not be taking part in discussions on slavery. It was this kind of determination that led Susan B.
Anthony towards gaining women the right to have equal guardianship of their children (Dorr 55).
In a period of about twenty years, Anthony supported the United States over the
Confederate States of America before and during the civil war. Her reason for taking a side during the
war was not only to see the slaves be free. Anthony wanted to see all men equal. She had a plan (Hist.
Works).
A couple years after the Civil War had ended, African American men were given the right to vote and
the right to attempt to live the American dream. With this information, Anthony took off. She felt that
women should be granted at least the same

The Book Tale Of Despereaux
I chose the book Tale of Despereaux. The reason why is quite simple. I love this book and I always
have. This book, I feel like, has always understood, that is if books could understand, and I have
always had a deep connection with it and its characters. I have read this book several hundred times
and it will never ever get old to me. I could read it when I m fifty. This was my favorite book back in
the day, and now because of this assignment, I get to read it once more! I will never and can never
forget this book. Book one, Coda. This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with
the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were
born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux
for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse
community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often
for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or
father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse.
His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to
teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. His sister even tried taking him to the library to
learn how to eat paper. But when Despereaux saw the paper he saw

Saving costs by not using advertising. Supply chain management plays an important role in the
success of this business model, for example the limited number of items (around 4,000 per store
compared to 10,000 for competitors) which are selected and decided upon how much to stock based
on an analysis of each item s ability to sell, allows Costco to have higher sales volumes for each item,
thus enabling Costco to gain more bulk discounts from suppliers. This strategy enabled Costco to be
the number one warehouse retailer in market share ahead of Wal Mart s Sam s Club (Cascio 2013).
What makes them successful? In one word following their customers. The new world of retail is very
different from the old (and cold) brick and mortar store centric retailing. The new retail is very
personal and very ubiquitous. The social networks now make or break brands and commerce is 24/7.
The customers have merged their views of retail: Physical stores, online stores, catalogs, call centers
and mobile. To them, irrespective of the channel they choose to interact with, they are dealing with a
single retailer and they expect consistent experience for sales, shipping, returns, brands, assortment,
and customer service. Enabling such customer experience takes seamless processes and services at the
back end, tied together with gobs of enterprise data and cutting edge technology. It takes a supply
chain that provides true visibility into inventory, demand, and supplies; manages

Broken Window Theory
Dr. Wilson and Dr. Kelling offer several benefits to police foot patrol and its application to broken
windows theory and order maintenance. There are many points that resonates with me that are
effective and ineffective about their work regarding broken windows theory and order
maintenance. The broken window theory is a method that if minor crimes are just left unaddressed and
nothing is done about it then, a situation for additional severe crime will be developed due this.
So in the really world the broken window is seen as effective in order to preservation of the law, which
helped reduce crime rates. For example in this theory, in order to reduce crime in a certain region or

Is Diversity an Issue Within Law Enforcement From the Past...
The term diversity refers to the condition of being diverse; thus, composed of distinct forms or
qualities (The Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2004). Looking back at the history of the U.S., there has
always been a diverse population in many jurisdictions. But did policy agency workforces mirror this
diversity of the communities they served? When in the past the issue of diversity within law
enforcement was at stake, where the same measures used today the same as the in the past? The U.S s
law enforcement mores originate from the English Law Enforcement. When the U.S. came into being

This division in society even went further to discriminate depending on an individual s social status,
duration in the U.S., sexual orientation, and racial backgrounds. Women who were hired as police
officers were appointed duties that did not require them to work street patrol. New York City
employed its first police matron in 1845 and in 1888 together with Massachusetts voted for a statute
that required communities with a population of over 20,000 to hire police matrons to care for female
prisoners (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson, and Harris, 2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). This created a path
for more women officers to be hired. In 1905, the Portland, Oregon Police Department appointed its
first woman [Lola Baldwin] sworn as a police officer but not allowed to patrol. The International
Association of Chiefs of Police passed a resolution in 1922 supporting the use of police women [but
did not work as patrol or detectives]. The Indianapolis Police Department assigned the first two
female officers on patrol in 1968 and in 1985, Portland, Oregon appointed the first woman [Penny
Harrington] Chief of Police. Laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act contributed to the hiring of
women in the law enforcement field (Shusta et al., 2010, p. 51; Felperin, 2004). Although women
were admitted early with restricted jobs, minorities such as blacks and Latinos had a lengthy way to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Energy Efficient Medium...
1 ) Energy Efficient Medium Access Protocol
A medium access control layer is the most suitable level to address the energy efficiency.
This layer is used to coordinate node access to the shared wireless medium. The MAC is the core of
communication protocol stack which provides the basic for achieving Quality of Service (QoS) in any
wireless networks. A versatile MAC should support diverse applications and different types of data
such as continuous, periodic, burst and non periodic data along with high level QoS. MAC plays a
major determining factor in improving overall network performance. The fundamental task in MAC
protocol is to avoid collisions and to prevent simultaneous transmissions while preserving maximum
throughput, minimum latency, communication reliability and maximum energy efficiency. It is
important to note that while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all the three processes of basic operation, communication should be initiated by the master.
Moreover, only one slave node can join the network at a time.
2) BodyMAC
Fang and Dutkiewicz in [28] propose energy efficient TDMA based MAC protocol for WBAN. In this
protocol, packet collision, idle listening and control packet overhead have been reduced by allocating
three bandwidth management schemes: Burst Bandwidth, Periodic Bandwidth and Adjust Bandwidth
in order to improve energy efficiency. An efficient sleep node is introduced to turn off a node s radio,
especially for the nodes supporting low duty cycle applications.
The MAC frame in BodyMAC protocol has three parts:
Beacon, downlink and uplink sub frames.
The beacon serves the purpose MAC layer synchronization. The downlink frame is used for
transmission from gateway to node, which can accommodate on demand traffic. The uplink frame
consists of two sub parts: Contention Access Part (CAP) and Contention Free Part

Many lack uninterrupted power supplies or proper environmental controls. Network manageability is
important because library has a tradition of basing operations on small support staffs with high
productivity. Justification: Library is interested in an upgrade to its network system. Students have
complained about occasional downtime and slow response times when accessing the network,
especially at peak access times. At a minimum, Library wishes to correct these issues through an
upgrade to their system, but management is also looking to be able to improve productivity and
increase security of the confidential data sent over their network. In addition to updating the hardware,
the proposed solution outlines some changes in the network configuration. These changes, if
implemented, will provide greater reliability and security for all users of the Library people. Along
with the new hardware, the new network configuration will open the door for library to explore new
possibilities in using the network to increase overall productivity and, in the end, better serve the
needs of their users. The solution outlined below will provide the greatest benefit possible for student
meeting all of their current needs and providing for future expansion at the lowest cost possible. The
total estimated cost for the project is just under $75,00,000; this takes into account not only resolving

Beliefs And Attitudes Toward The Native Americans
Though a lot of individuals saw the Native Americans as savages, I see them just as protectors and
defenders of their land. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living
peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before
invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! Especially when the invaders
came to claim your land, brought illnesses and infections during the process, and then began to
brutally murder you and your people because you look differently than them, and you wouldn t
comply with their demands. I suppose depending on the Native Americans faith and how many of
their people were killed by the invaders determined how savagely and deadly the Native Americans
became. For example, John Smith, Mary Rowlandson, and Mary Jemison were all captured by a
different tribe of Native Americans in different locations and time eras. So, of course, Smith s,
Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward
the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. First of the three that was
captured was Mr. John Smith.
While on an expedition in December of 1607, Captain John Smith and his men were attacked by a
surge of Native Americans. The Native Americans, that was the Powhatan s Tribe, killed John Smith s
men, but spared his life after Smith gave them a fascinating object which was a compass. After

The Pros And Cons Of Sex Work Harm Reduction
Sex work has been a concept in the world for centuries and is a broad profession in that it has many

Themes In The Fall Of The House Of Usher
An expert in grotesque and arabesque writing, Edgar Allan Poe is known for his great contributions to
the Gothic style of writing literature. Poe has a very unique and dark way of writing. His mysterious
style of writing appeals to many readers because of it is unlike many other writers. Many of his stories
tend to have the same recurring theme of either death or lost love. In The Fall of the House of Usher ,
however, we see both death and lost love as the major theme. In this short story, Roderick faces mental
illness and the loss of his precious sister, Lady Madeline. In The Fall of the House of Usher , Poe
includes other narratives and poems within the story. One of the poems he includes is The Haunted
Palace. The Haunted Palace begins with very positive vibes using the phrases happy valley and gentle
air in order to paint a picture of a beautiful haven. However, in the 5th stanza, the mood drastically
changes. Evil spirits appear and invade the haven. Phrases like ghastly river and robes of sorrow now
stain the purity of the previously established beauty of the supposed radiant palace . This poem has a
great significance in accordance with The Fall of the House of Usher specifically its correlation in
themes. The transition of good to evil in The Haunted Palace is very similar to the narrator s views
towards the House of Usher. In the beginning of The Fall of the House of Usher , the narrator
approaches the House of Usher and is disgusted with the

Un Canadien Errant Analysis
Un Canadien errant is a song composed in 1842 by Antoine Gérin Lajoie and was intended to remind
people that after the Lower Canada (Québec) Rebellion of 1837 38, many French Canadians were
forced to foreign lands such as Australia, the USA, and elsewhere for having taken part in a rebellion
against the British. The British authorities put down the rebellion very harshly, destroying crops,
burning villages and farms, and after had some rebels executed and others deported. The song has
become an anthem for certain groups of Canadians who have at a point in their history experienced the
pain of being deported from their homeland. The song also holds importance for the Acadians, who
suffered mass deportation in the Great Upheaval between 1755 and 1763. The Acadian version is

that has to constantly be taken care of. When people feel bad about themselves they just are not happy.

instead of letting nature run its course woman all over North America run to the doctors for major

Life On A Kiibbutz In Amos Oz s Between Friends
Life on a kibbutz is supposed to be like living in utopia; a great sense of community and a symbol of
fairness and justice in a world so full of cruelty. In Amos Oz s collection of short stories, Between
Friends, it is revealed that life on a kibbutz is not quite the Garden of Eden it was originally created to

For those wracked by melancholia, writing about it would have meaning only if writing sprang out of
that very melancholia. Julia Kristeva s Black Sun: Depression and Melancholia explores the
melancholic subject within Freud s psychoanalytical framework. It is a well observed symptom of
depression that language dies and that the ultimate result of life threatening depression is total silence.
The melancholic subject s problem is simply an inability to speak in a meaningful way. Kristeva
argues that a person afflicted with melancholia is incapable of talking about their illness, especially in
terms of her post Freudian psychoanalytic practice. Unlike traditional feminists who always query,
deny, even criticize Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first dimension, according to the traditional psychoanalytic theory, Depression, like mourning,
conceals an aggressiveness toward the lost object, thus revealing the ambivalence of the depressed
person with respect to the object of mourning (185). I love the lost object but I also hate it. In order
not to lose the object I love, I imbed it in myself. I hate the object, so I hate myself. Because I have
imbedded the object in myself, I will kill myself. So in this case, depression works as The complaint
against oneself is a hatred for the other, which is without doubt the substratum of an unsuspected
sexual desire (186). In my own interpretation, the subject is ambiguous. The subject is depressed
because he/she yearns for an unrequited love for the lost object desperately. But unfortunately his/her
desire can t be realized, the subject becomes angry and determines to commit suicide. But I don t
know why the subject chooses to imbed the lost object he/she loves in the body. Does it mean that
people can t kill the lost object but he/she can kill him/herself? It is illegal to kill the lost object. In the
second dimension in the narcissistic depressed persons case, Sadness is a substitute object they
become attached to, an object they tame and cherish for lack of another (187). In my own
interpretation, as far as the narcissistic depressed persons are

Gender Bias In The Elizabethan Era In England
The issue of gender bias has been in play in every society since the creation of man. After mankind
had sinned, eating the fruit, God punished man, woman and serpent. To the woman, He said Your
desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you. (Genesis 3:16b). In each society,
however, men and women played different roles. Although I don t necessarily disagree with the gender
bias that exists and has existed, I am still shocked at how differently people of different genders lived
differently in the past. My opinion is that people are making gender bias in the world today much
worse than it seems. This can be seen history, biblical events and personal experience.
In the Elizabethan Era in England, there was a great difference between the treatment of men and
women. Elizabethan women were to be subservient to men and relied on a male relative to support
them. After a marriage, the women were expected to run households and take care of children. On the
other hand, men dealt their jobs and were allowed to go around and have fun. Women in this era were,
although treated with respect, still somewhat looked down on and it was very difficult for a woman
without a male relative to live well. This is very different from today s society, as there are many
independent women living around the world. I am quite shocked at the way the Elizabethan women
had practically no say in things, as in many cultures, and that they had no choice over their marriage.

Did Roosevelt s New Deal Programs Benefit Women As Much As...
To what extent did Roosevelt s New Deal programs benefit women as much as they benefited men?
I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people. In his presidential nomination
acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in July 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt
promised America a new deal . When Roosevelt took office in March 1933, in the height of the Great
Depression, he brought the New Deal and with it he brought back hope to the American people.
Roosevelt s New Deal was a series of programs that aimed to relieve the poor, recover the economy,
and reform the system that allowed the Great Depression to happen. Indisputably, the New Deal did
benefit the American people as it brought back financial security ... Show more content on

The largest of the New Deal programs, the Works Progress Administration, directly employed women.
At its peak in 1935, the WPA employed 460,000 women. However, prior to the involvement of First
Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in the New Deal program in pushing for a women s division within the
Federal Emergency Relief Administration, New Deal programs almost exclusively focused on men. In
addition to this, there were now women in positions of power within the government such as Mary
McLeod Bethune, an African American stateswoman became a national advisor for President
Roosevelt as a result of her work as the Director of the Division of Negro Affairs in the National
Youth Administration, and Frances Perkins who served as Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945 and
was the first woman appointed to the cabinet. These accomplishments that women achieved during the
New Deal era were a direct result of the New Deal initiatives. Other than the few women in high
ranking government position, the FERA s female division required every state to hire a woman to
oversee the division. While this didn t improve employment opportunities for women massively, it
gave some women the opportunity for growth in their

Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College
The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open
doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a
successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going To
College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students to
attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray emphasizes
the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society with factors
such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic standards students
must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on the thoughts and
feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be misleading. Murray
brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance counselors, teachers, and
even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating every failure to go to college as
an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are often blindsided by the
overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount of education students
would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one aspect of this
phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have career ambitions
that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing students that college is the
only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such, an intellectual heaven where
they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without understanding the educational
hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49). They then attend a four year
university with the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are handed out fresh in their minds,
thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even has the educational requirements
needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). Unfortunately, as Murray reminds us, this is the
system that is in place. For a brutal fact

The Game Of Basketball And The Engine
The game of basketball and the engine have been around for a long time. The game of basketball was
invented in December 1891 and the engine was invented in 1680. Although they seem completely
different they are not. Basketball and the engine are similar regarding their equipment and supplies
needed, the procedures that take place, and the way they enhance one s life. The game of basketball
was intended to condition young athletes. It started as a basic game, and as the years progressed,
officials added rules that made the game how it is today. The game is played with no more than five
players from each team at a time. This allows you to have team mates but not have too many people
playing at one time. The engine was invented to make life and transportation easier. Over the years
engines have become more complex and powerful which allows for more speed and better vehicles.
Basketball may seem like a complicated sport but it is not unless one makes it complicated. In the
game of basketball there is the basket which has a back board made of a sturdy glass and a net made
from special rope. Then there is the basketball which is made of rubber with a leather cover for grip.
The players wear shorts and a jersey with a number and sometimes the last name of the player on the
back and the same number and team name on the front. The player will also wear a special shoe made
for the sport. The shoes are made from different materials, and the bottom of the shoe has a good,

Stereotypes In The New Catacomb Short Story
There are many misconceptions about archaeology. Some misconceptions stem from the stereotypes
popularized in media while others come from the simple lack of knowledge about archaeology. For
example, many people do not know that anthropology is the study of humans, since archaeologists are
widely associated with excavations it is common to confuse archaeology with paleontology, which has
to do with the study of ancient life excluding human beings and closely related ancestors. Some
popular stereotypes associated with archaeology are that archaeologists are generally old men or that it
is a man s type of work, that archaeologists are overly obsessed with their work, and that archaeology
is exceedingly dangerous. The short story The New Catacomb by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle helps
reinforce these stereotypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both archaeologists are white men in their early thirties. Kennedy is described as being handsome
while being both strong and weak in nature. Burger is a contrast to Kennedy physically, socially, and
economically. He, like Kennedy, is also a white male. Both men are very well educated and speak in a
manner that supports this. Due to his low economic status, Burger s life was a difficult one which is
evident on his physical features. Burger is strong, friendly, but socially stunted. In a sense, his social
errs are what many people believe are characteristic of real life archaeologists, and on a bigger scale,
anthropologists in general. It is thought that archaeologists spend so much time focused on their work
that they miss out on a regular social life and therefore become awkward socially. This, of course, is
inaccurate but is reinforced in the minds of the public because of how archaeologists are portrayed in

  • 2. Prometheus s Journey A new beginning was laid forth the day Prometheus discovered Individualism and the importance of the ego, though for now, he had an experiential task laid upon his broad shoulders. Forevermore, he will continue to spread the ideology which has blessed him, Gaia, and his newly born son, Odysseus. Now that several years have passed since his grand discovery, his plans were to awe his once former brothers and sisters with his new found knowledge. Moreover, Prometheus had been working on the marvels of the old world with a working automobile (being a classic red convertible ford with a V8 engine) the most important. Likewise, he planned to use this automobile to travel to the dreaded city. With these new tools, Prometheus will once again set towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It felt like yesterday to Prometheus, for it was not every day you get such a euphoric moment. Though upon his return to the city it was deprived of any sign of it having a life. This came as a shock to Prometheus for he felt he was obligated to liberate his once former friends. As Prometheus walked throughout the city in search of his former department, there happened to be a smell so rancid it made him almost vomit just by being there. Upon entering the Street Sweeper Department, he realized there was a man lying flat on the smooth marble floor. This man was no other than International 4 8818 a former colleague of his. Prometheus immediately asked what had become of the city to which International started to respond. He explained to Prometheus that a plague had wiped out many the people and those who were left without the immediate side effects had their off springs dying off as soon as they left the womb. Afterward, International no longer has the will to continue asking Prometheus to leave him to his suffering to which Prometheus immediately obeyed. Now with great remorse, Prometheus sets course back home and he vowed that he would search for a bastion of Civilization to which he may share his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Differences Between Love Canal And Chernobyl Love Canal and Chernobyl are two different environmental disasters that share many similarities, yet have their differences too. Love canal is located in Niagara Falls, New York and is the site of a seventy acre landfill. This landfill caused a major environmental pollution disaster that affected hundreds of people. Toxic waste began to invade homes, backyards, and playgrounds. Two hundred and forty eight different chemicals were found buried beneath this community. Eight hundred families had to relocate. (Softschools.com). Chernobyl is located in Ukraine, this natural disaster was the explosion of reactor number four, and occurred while under maintenance check. This explosion let out two hundred times the amount of radiation than Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Seven Million people were affected, and three hundred and fifty thousand people were forced out of their homes and relocated. This explosion damaged sixty three thousand square miles of land (friendsofchernobyl.org). It is important to realize although differences are present, both Love Canal and Chernobyl had similar effects on humans and the land. Many people suffered from these disasters, and had to change their lifestyles because of the effects done to the land. Chernobyl and Love Canal both had many negative effects on humans and the land near these places. The land in both events was impacted drastically. Neither places could grow food that could be consumed anymore. In Chernobyl people who harvested food were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Kruskal Algorithm Essay Kruskal s Algorithm Introduction: In 1956, the minimum spanning tree algorithm was firstly described by Kruskal. In same paper where he rediscovered the Jarnik s algorithm. The algorithm was rediscovered in 1957 by Loberman and Weinberger, but avoided to be renamed after them. The main idea of Kruskal s algorithms is as follows: Scan all the edges in the increase of weight order; [If any edge is safe, keep it (i.e. add it to the set A)] Kruskal s Algorithm is directly based on generic MST algorithm. It builds MST in the forest. On the initial level, each of the vertex is in its own tree in the forest. Then the algorithm consider each of the edge in turn, order by the increase of weight. Doña Marina story talks about how she was given away by her parents to some Indians and was claimed dead by her parents. The reason for all this trouble was because her mom and stepdad preferred her stepbrother and her parents wanted him to be inherent in their fortune. Without knowing they gave Doña Marina better life because those Indians gave her to Cortez who took care of her and made an important woman. • 6. Essay Violence in theTitus Andronicus Whilst the Greek and Roman predecessors of revenge tragedy showed little compunction in gruesome on stage violence, the Elizabethan spectators were, by the time of publication and performance of Shakespearian plays, a more educated audience who would appreciate the poetic style and subtle references to classical literature. This is not to say that the sixteenth century public were sensitive to acts of startling brutality; public executions and bear baiting were frequent occurrences that no doubt permeated the psyche of a nation. It has been argued that Shakespeare, conscious of his contemporaries efforts in this genre decided to `out do his predecessors but a far more probable explanation is that Shakespeare, accommodating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is such a considerable amount of violence in Titus, varying in intensity and degree that it might seem hard to draw any firm conclusions about its impact. One can, however, obtain the idea that the violence within the play has a far greater impact on both the audience and the on stage characters when accompanied by a rhetoric or language that either juxtaposes or reinforces the brutality. The way in which characters react to violence, evident through their speech and imagery, can manipulate our responses to them and instil either an affinity or indifference to their personalities. Titus first appearance in Act I Scene I is an example of this manipulation. His cold, calculating rejection of Tamora s plea for her son s life, juxtaposed with the solemn, funeral rhetoric give us the impression of a character who can flit between brutality and normality very easily, and who demonstrates little compassion when doing so. Upon his entrance, Titus talks passionately about the deaths of his sons, and his return to Rome as a grieving father. The eternal rest and peace of his children s souls preoccupies the protagonist s mind, and his self reflecting vocabulary indicates a pensive state of mind. Titus deliberately places internal juxtapositions within his lines, `victorious , `mourning (I.i.70), `fraught , `precious lading (L.71 2), and `alive , `dead and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Lost Lady By Willa Cather The setting of A Lost Lady is the beautiful prairies and flyover regions of the United States. These open areas of rolling hills, grasslands, and wildflowers are often overlooked, but are none the less a pleasant view, as well as an important part of America s history. Another aspect of America s history that is often overlooked, but not as pleasant, is the idea of gender roles and the objectification of women. In Willa Cather s A Lost Lady, Mrs. Forrester is able to break through and overcome such objectivity that her husband, Captain Forrester, and her younger friend, Niel Herbert have placed on her. To fully grasp Marian Forrester s breakthrough of female objectivity, it is important to understand how her husband objectified her throughout the novel. First, the Forresters are prominent figures in their society and are viewed as a high class family because of his work on the railroads and for his beautiful wife. Being so well respected, Captain Forrester often had company and visitors to his house for dinner or other gatherings. During such events, Marian Forrester s sole role was to greet those visitors. This is an example of Captain Forrester s objectification because it gratified him [Captain Forrester] to see men who were older than himself leap nimbly to the ground and run up the front steps as Mrs. Forrester came out on the porch to greet them (Cather 10). The quote from the novel expains that many men were impressed or infatuated with Marian s physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That dispute led to secession, and secession brought about a war in which the Northern and Western states and territories fought to preserve the Union, and the South fought to establish Southern independence as a new confederation of states under its own constitution. In the late 18th century, the abolitionist movement began in the north and the country began to divide over the issue between north and south. In 1820, the Missouri Compromise banned slavery in all new western territories, which southern states saw as a threat to the institution of slavery itself. There were those in the antislavery movement that proposed legislation that would actually purchase the freedom of slaves, as had happened in Europe. This sort of solution would have ended slavery, but done it without the violence and death that the Civil War brought. In contrast, the abolitionist movement sought to end slavery by any means necessary. So, famous abolitionist John Brown resorted to theft, and to attacks on federal officers, in his effort to end slavery. The radical abolitionists had no interested in ending slavery in a peaceful or legal way. They wanted to end slavery at the point of the bayonet. SECESIONISM Before the Civil War, the country was dividing between north and south. Issues included States Rights but centered mostly on the issue of slavery, which was prominent in the south but increasingly banned by northern states. With the election in 1860 of Abraham Lincoln, who ran on a message of anti slavery, the Southern states felt it was only a matter of time before the institution was outlawed completely. During 2005 the Israeli government began removing settlers and turning the land back over to the Palestinian s with the thought that holding on to it had become too big of a problem and it had become to taxing to the Israeli government (Monitor, 2015). The majority of clubfeet results from abnormal development of the muscles, tendons, and bones while the baby is forming in the uterus. Genetic and environmental factors in the development of the fetus seem to also be some of the causes. The disturbance of the normal growing foot probably occurs at about the eighth week of pregnancy. The cause of the foot growing deformed is unknown, but believed to have something to do with heredity. Many cases of clubfoot do not have easily identifiable causes. The goal of treatment is to achieve and maintain as normal as a foot as possible. The extent of the required treatment varies, depending upon the rigidity of the foot. Treatment may take several months, but most children learn to crawl, stand, and walk at the normal age. There are a couple different ways to go about treating clubfoot, the two most perfered being manipulation and casting, and surgery. Clubfoot is most common in children who suffer from spina bifida who have an L4 or L5 motor level. Many orthopedic surgeons instead of serial casting suggest early taping and gentle manipulation followed by an application of a well padded splint. The reason for this is because serial casting can cause skin irritations and breakdown. Another technique manipulation and casting is a treatment that begins shortly after birth. Team based bonuses may work for some business. Consequently, I am not convinced that this approach is beneficial to Mitron. The scenario states that technicians with multiple skills often have to fill in for those that are absent or lack the skill needed in a team, that is needed to complete the production. That individual requires the flexibility to be rotated to any given team, at any time. This occurred when her transformation was complete and she had turned from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. • 19. The Effects Of Coal Ash On The Health Of Water Systems Introduction Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal in power plants and is composed mainly of aluminum and silicon oxides. This ash is commonly stored away in dump sites, only to leach out solutions of concentrated toxic heavy metals. Such issues are detrimental to the health of water systems, posing both a human and environmental health risk. However, there are solutions to this problem. Coal ash possesses unique chemical properties that allow for the remediation of other environmental concerns, such as the treatment of soil polluted with heavy metals, the removal of nutrients from wastewater, and the remediation of acid mine drainage in streams. Coal ash is known to contain a number of different toxic metals, the exact content dependent upon the coal it is formed from. Containing this potential pollution hazard is an expensive problem, as approximately 75% of all ash generated is stored in landfills. Big Daddy and the American Dream in Tennessee Williams Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Tennessee William s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a thought provoking play that explores human relationships of all kinds. The character of Brick is forced to examine the relationship with his friend, Skipper, his wife, his family, and himself. Other characters, Gooper, Mae, and Big Mama, demonstrate stifling marriage relationships. Big Daddy, though, is one of the most interesting characters in that he illustrates the strange relationship one can have with one s possessions. He has no need for clothing to serve as his mask since he already has masks of a different kind to hide behind. He even goes so far as to act as though he has contempt for money, too. He says, But a man can t buy his life with it, he can t buy back his life with it when his life has been spent (682 act 2). Yet these words contradict the words that follow, the words that express his true inner belief about money and possessions: The human animal is a beast that dies and if he s got money he buys and buys and buys and I think the reason he buys everything he can buy is that in the back of his mind he has the crazy hope that one of his purchases will be life everlasting! The family made anti slavery talks an almost daily conversation over the dinner table. She also saw men and women on the same level (Stoddard 36). This book is split up into four books, and here we will start off with the reading of the first five chapters. Despereaux was the only surviving mouse out of all that were born. He had great big ear for his size, and his eyes were open at birth. He got his name Despereaux for all of the sadness and despair were they live. His parents, along with everyone else in the mouse community did not think he would live, but he did. His brothers and sisters picked on him quite often for his size and for all of his looks. He didn t mind, he never even let it bother him when his mother or father called him a disappointment for his looks or his inability or unwillingness to act like a mouse. His brother, Furlough, took him on a tour of the castle to learn how to be a mouse, but his attempts to teach Despereaux went in one ear and out the other. From a Native American prospective, if you and your people were living peacefully since the beginning of time, and then all of a sudden, people you have never seen before invades your land; no one is undeniably going to take kindly to that! So, of course, Smith s, Rowlandson s and Jemison s captivity narratives had extremely different views and attitudes toward the earlier occupants of the American soil, nature, and ethical values. Poe has a very unique and dark way of writing. His mysterious style of writing appeals to many readers because of it is unlike many other writers. Many of his stories tend to have the same recurring theme of either death or lost love. In The Fall of the House of Usher , however, we see both death and lost love as the major theme. In this short story, Roderick faces mental illness and the loss of his precious sister, Lady Madeline. In The Fall of the House of Usher , Poe includes other narratives and poems within the story. However, in the 5th stanza, the mood drastically changes. Evil spirits appear and invade the haven. Phrases like ghastly river and robes of sorrow now stain the purity of the previously established beauty of the supposed radiant palace . Customers can also make purchases at electronic kiosks and large interactive lookbook displays. Another improvement to the operational process has been introduced in the form of Buy Online, Pickup in Store program that rolled out nationwide at Macy s stores in 2014. The group suggests that Macy s Inc. should minimize the time for order processing to allow customers place orders online using computer or Macy s online application to allow same day pickup in store, with minimal wait time between placing orders and receiving the orders in stores. Enhanced shopping applications for mobile devices continue to constitute a large focus of Macy s organizational strategy. According to Business Wire (2014), enhanced navigation allows customers to easily and quickly move between features, reach desired product with fewer clicks, check out more quickly, as well as the enhanced ability to manage gift registries (par. 8). At the same time, Macy s should continue to provide adequate Internet access throughout its stores to allow customers use their mobile applications for shopping. Heller (2012) reports that Macy s will offer free WiFi throughout its stores which would allow shoppers to easily view and post reviews in real time, which is something that has shown to spur others purchases (par. 5). • 42. Analysis Of Black Sun By Julia Kristeva For those wracked by melancholia, writing about it would have meaning only if writing sprang out of that very melancholia. Julia Kristeva s Black Sun: Depression and Melancholia explores the melancholic subject within Freud s psychoanalytical framework. It is a well observed symptom of depression that language dies and that the ultimate result of life threatening depression is total silence. The melancholic subject s problem is simply an inability to speak in a meaningful way. Kristeva argues that a person afflicted with melancholia is incapable of talking about their illness, especially in terms of her post Freudian psychoanalytic practice. Unlike traditional feminists who always query, deny, even criticize Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first dimension, according to the traditional psychoanalytic theory, Depression, like mourning, conceals an aggressiveness toward the lost object, thus revealing the ambivalence of the depressed person with respect to the object of mourning (185). I love the lost object but I also hate it. In order not to lose the object I love, I imbed it in myself. I hate the object, so I hate myself. Because I have imbedded the object in myself, I will kill myself. So in this case, depression works as The complaint against oneself is a hatred for the other, which is without doubt the substratum of an unsuspected sexual desire (186). In my own interpretation, the subject is ambiguous. The subject is depressed because he/she yearns for an unrequited love for the lost object desperately. But unfortunately his/her desire can t be realized, the subject becomes angry and determines to commit suicide. But I don t know why the subject chooses to imbed the lost object he/she loves in the body. Does it mean that people can t kill the lost object but he/she can kill him/herself? It is illegal to kill the lost object. In the second dimension in the narcissistic depressed persons case, Sadness is a substitute object they become attached to, an object they tame and cherish for lack of another (187). • 43. Gender Bias In The Elizabethan Era In England The issue of gender bias has been in play in every society since the creation of man. After mankind had sinned, eating the fruit, God punished man, woman and serpent. To the woman, He said Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you. (Genesis 3:16b). In each society, however, men and women played different roles. Although I don t necessarily disagree with the gender bias that exists and has existed, I am still shocked at how differently people of different genders lived differently in the past. My opinion is that people are making gender bias in the world today much worse than it seems. This can be seen history, biblical events and personal experience. In the Elizabethan Era in England, there was a great difference between the treatment of men and women. Elizabethan women were to be subservient to men and relied on a male relative to support them. After a marriage, the women were expected to run households and take care of children. On the other hand, men dealt their jobs and were allowed to go around and have fun. Women in this era were, although treated with respect, still somewhat looked down on and it was very difficult for a woman without a male relative to live well. This is very different from today s society, as there are many independent women living around the world. I am quite shocked at the way the Elizabethan women had practically no say in things, as in many cultures, and that they had no choice over their marriage. Everything ... • 44. Did Roosevelt s New Deal Programs Benefit Women As Much As... To what extent did Roosevelt s New Deal programs benefit women as much as they benefited men? I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people. In his presidential nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention in July 1932, Franklin Delano Roosevelt promised America a new deal . When Roosevelt took office in March 1933, in the height of the Great Depression, he brought the New Deal and with it he brought back hope to the American people. Roosevelt s New Deal was a series of programs that aimed to relieve the poor, recover the economy, and reform the system that allowed the Great Depression to happen. Indisputably, the New Deal did benefit the American people as it brought back financial security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The largest of the New Deal programs, the Works Progress Administration, directly employed women. At its peak in 1935, the WPA employed 460,000 women. However, prior to the involvement of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in the New Deal program in pushing for a women s division within the Federal Emergency Relief Administration, New Deal programs almost exclusively focused on men. In addition to this, there were now women in positions of power within the government such as Mary McLeod Bethune, an African American stateswoman became a national advisor for President Roosevelt as a result of her work as the Director of the Division of Negro Affairs in the National Youth Administration, and Frances Perkins who served as Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945 and was the first woman appointed to the cabinet. These accomplishments that women achieved during the New Deal era were a direct result of the New Deal initiatives. Other than the few women in high ranking government position, the FERA s female division required every state to hire a woman to oversee the division. While this didn t improve employment opportunities for women massively, it gave some women the opportunity for growth in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Summary Of Too Many People Are Going To College The standard way of thinking about college has often given the impression that education will open doors. College is foretold to be the wisest choice a student can make to better their future with a successful, high paying job. Yet Charles Murray, author of the article Too Many People Are Going To College, introduces a controversial side to the argument, believing that the decision for students to attend college is one of great importance, but the choice may be made too soon. Murray emphasizes the reasons why this situation exists and continues to be proven true in today s society with factors such as the misleading statements to students about college and the high academic standards students must conform to. In discussions of Charles Murray, he expresses his opinion on the thoughts and feelings that are being transferred to students before college, claiming them to be misleading. Murray brings to light the problem that exists in the constant pushing of guidance counselors, teachers, and even politicians to aspire for a college degree no matter what, treating every failure to go to college as an injustice (Murray 48). Yet, by doing so, parents and students are often blindsided by the overwhelming cost of college that many cannot afford, or the sheer amount of education students would put themselves through for no reason at all. Murray observes that one aspect of this phenomenon has been labeled misaligned ambitions, meaning that adolescents have career ambitions that are inconsistent with their educational plans (Murray 48). Convincing students that college is the only guiding light to a better life forces students to see college as such, an intellectual heaven where they can become anything, such as a doctor or an attorney without understanding the educational hurdles they must surmount to achieve their goal (Murray 48 49). They then attend a four year university with the depiction of college as a place where B.A.s are handed out fresh in their minds, thoughtless as to if that particular college they are attending even has the educational requirements needed to complete their career goals (Murray 49). Unfortunately, as Murray reminds us, this is the system that is in place. For a brutal fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Game Of Basketball And The Engine The game of basketball and the engine have been around for a long time. The game of basketball was invented in December 1891 and the engine was invented in 1680. Although they seem completely different they are not. Basketball and the engine are similar regarding their equipment and supplies needed, the procedures that take place, and the way they enhance one s life. The game of basketball was intended to condition young athletes. It started as a basic game, and as the years progressed, officials added rules that made the game how it is today. The game is played with no more than five players from each team at a time. This allows you to have team mates but not have too many people playing at one time. The engine was invented to make life and transportation easier. Over the years engines have become more complex and powerful which allows for more speed and better vehicles. Basketball may seem like a complicated sport but it is not unless one makes it complicated. In the game of basketball there is the basket which has a back board made of a sturdy glass and a net made from special rope. Then there is the basketball which is made of rubber with a leather cover for grip. The players wear shorts and a jersey with a number and sometimes the last name of the player on the back and the same number and team name on the front. The player will also wear a special shoe made for the sport. The shoes are made from different materials, and the bottom of the shoe has a good, sticky ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Stereotypes In The New Catacomb Short Story There are many misconceptions about archaeology. Some misconceptions stem from the stereotypes popularized in media while others come from the simple lack of knowledge about archaeology. For example, many people do not know that anthropology is the study of humans, since archaeologists are widely associated with excavations it is common to confuse archaeology with paleontology, which has to do with the study of ancient life excluding human beings and closely related ancestors. Some popular stereotypes associated with archaeology are that archaeologists are generally old men or that it is a man s type of work, that archaeologists are overly obsessed with their work, and that archaeology is exceedingly dangerous. Burger is strong, friendly, but socially stunted. In a sense, his social errs are what many people believe are characteristic of real life archaeologists, and on a bigger scale, anthropologists in general.
