Hand Gesture Recognition Essay
1. INTRODUCTION
In this Project design and implementation of an algorithm for hand gesture recognition will be done
and we will explore its application in Banking Security. This system will have the wired mode of
control and the webcam of the laptop will be used for image acquisition. This Project describes
Security system using Hand gestures using a novel algorithm that can be used for Banking Security. At
the time of robbery in bank, by making a cross hand gesture by any employer or customer, the doors
of the bank will get closed and the nearby police station will be informed about the robbery. It is very
important for every bank to provide security to their customers and employees, so the main purpose of
the project is to provide security to the customers and employees of the bank. At the time of robbery in
bank, the money of the bank and the life of the customers and the employees are at risk, this project
will use hand gesture recognition technique to recognize the special hand gesture of the employees so
that nearby police can be informed about the robbery just by recognizing that special hand gesture. In
this project we will use laptop web camera to acquire image of the gesture.
We will use the skin color detection technique as it can detect different skin colors under cluttered
background .The segmentation considered as an open issue problem itself. The color space used in a
specific application plays an essential role in the success of segmentation process,

Analysis Of Mikhail Kalatozov s Film I Am Cuba
A Call of the Revolution
Watching Mikhail Kalatozov s film I am Cuba (1967) is a moving cinematic experience. In the
beginning, the film portrays a stereotypical Cuba through a carefree party on the rooftop and the
contrasting scenes of the prostitute s destitute village and the glamorous casino. The film depicts how
Cuba moves from a repressed country to an epicenter of revolution through four vignettes in which
each builds momentum to the next and an overall narrator that bridges the stories. The film narrates a
movement starting with how the oppressive capitalists exploit Cuba and push the people over the
edge. In the second half, the Cuban people move from passivity to actions, shown by a university
protest and a villager joining the militia in a revolution to overthrow the corrupt regime. Among the
vignettes, Enrique s leadership in the university student protest stands out the most. Complemented by
the shift in the camera s perspective of space in relation to characters, it is a crucial turning point
where the plot changes from the focus on a powerless individual to a vision depicting the power of
collective action.
Enrique s mission to assassinate the chief of police is a failed individual quest. The camera distorts the
viewers senses and moves with fundamental autonomy from the protagonist to convey the futility of
the individual against the formidable political establishment (Oukaderova, 70). He loses his sense of
direction when he acts independent of his

The Minerva System
1. What has been your involvement in Beuth? Honestly, my initial reaction to the minerva meetings
was that I was surprised about the meetings because I really did not see the point in just voting for
events. The very first meeting was where many people people came and a lot of upperclassmen came
as well and they were the ones who mostly introduced the events and I did not know a whole lot about
the minerva system. Initially, the meaning of minerva houses is oblivious to most incoming freshman
and I realized this when I was helping out as a student ambassador for Union College and asking the
families if they had any questions about this college and most of the families wanted to know more
about the minerva system as this a concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The meetings really encourage everyone to show their creative side and since it is mostly freshman
who attend the meeting it is a safe place so even the shiest people can participate. The first minerva
meeting that I observed was how the minerva system works and realized that it was a pretty simple
process of getting an idea approved. I have observed that minerva meetings are places where students
are encouraged to take action on an event that they are thinking about everyone is given an equal
chance. What has always stuck with me about the meetings is that all clubs and students are
encouraged to work together when they come up with the same events and make it even better and not
outdo each other. I have had a first hand experience of this because the club that I am involved in
wanted to do a week long event on the Syrian Refugee Crisis and we had it planned and someone also
said that the he/she wanted to to do a dinner and discussion on this event so we said that we have also
thought about this and we were informed that the minerva aren t a place for competition and rather we
should combine our ideas and maybe join together and this was a great learning experience for me and
others. My friend and I decided to propose an event to the minerva council about an international
talent night to the council so they suggested some ways to just as best time, performer groups and
other ideas for this event and this really

Methodologies, Analysis and Design
Abstract
The Dodge Game is a mini project in Software Design and Modi ability. The results of this
development process are supposed to an executable game capable of running in a Windows
environment. The game has be a developed using object oriented principles and makes use of a simple
graphics. The chosen development environment was java and the graphics library was the Java 2D
graphics. The approach taken in the design was a decoupling or component based design. The
implemented solution runs on a JPanel and renders graphics on to the game screen

The gure 1 is the class diagram for all the classes listed above. The chosen architecture of the game
has decoupled game as seen in the class diagram in gure 1. Each of the classes has a single
responsibility as a way to try and minimize cluttering the design. It shows all the relationships and and
the references to interfaces and also to base classes.
As seen in the class diagram each class form an individual component to the big solution of the game
problem. The choice of this design was mainly to enable reusability and try to enable code re use.
There is also an adoption of the Model view controller pattern[1] in the design of the classes. The
raindrop and player have models and controllers methods within them and JPanel is responsible giving
the view to the user.

Moon Conspiracy
We did land on the moon There are many people who believed that we did land on the moon, but then
there are many others who do not believe we landed on the moon. There are many points that they try
to prove to say that we did not land on the moon such as the flag movement, no stars, and that the
shadows were messed up. There are many ways to prove them wrong with the proof they have that we
landed on the moon.
Conspiracy theorists have pointed out that we did not land on the moon with many points such as the
flag was moving. According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, Photos of the landing
also seem to show rippling in a breeze, which clearly shows a fold in the flag. The obvious problem
here is that there s no air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, The moon landing hoax is the total lack
of stars in any of the photographic/video evidence. There are no clouds on the moon, so stars are
perpetually visible and significantly brighter than what we see through the filter of Earth s atmosphere
(Moon landings could be a hoax). According to Erin Ruberry, Washington, D.C. based writer and
editor specializing in digital media, The reason that the stars do not show up on the film is that the
stars are so dim that the camera cannot gather enough of their light in a short exposure. Our eyes are a
lot more sensitive to light than photographic film (Reason for no stars). Another reason from Brent
Sibly, author from def logic.com/cached source, The moon is a very bright whitish object, which
reflects the light from the sun as brightly as snow. Since the astronauts were constantly surrounded by
the bright reflecting surface of the moon, they were always brightly lit (We went to the moon). The
mythbusters proved that the astronauts and camera did not pick the stars by making similar dust to the
moon and shined light on the dust and it reflected brightly and the brighter the moon is the harder it is
to see the moon. And like what Erin Ruberry said the photographic lense could not pick up the stars
from them being

California Lemon Law Case Study
Did you recently purchase a new car thatand it has had a ton of issues? Have you been without a car
for more than 30 days? Has your car been in the repair shop for the same malfunction several times? If
so, you might have relief under the Lemon Law. The Lemon Law Statute entitles a problem car s
owner to a comparable replacement car or a refund of the purchase price (which is prorated according
to miles driven). To qualify under the California Lemon Law, the car should meet the following
criteria: 1. The car must be under warranty at the time of the claim. 2. The owner must have brought
the car in for repair (to an authorized dealer) for the same problem at least 4 times. 3. The car must
have been out of service for a total of 30 days,

Canon Shape Structure in Jewish and Christian Bibles
Judaism and Christianity are derived from different times and places in the world. They share a
lengthy past and many of the same books. However, these communities are divergent in their beliefs.
The fundamental differences lie within the literary composition of each theology s sacred texts. The
shape and structure of the Jewish and Christian canons are arranged to substantiate each community s
religious beliefs.
Jews and Christians arranged their canons differently to obtain a specific outcome in relation to their
fundamental beliefs. First off, the Jews arranged their books in the Hebrew Bible to reflect their
covenantal relationship with God. The 24 books are organized by genre of scripture and tell the
history of God s relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These passages from the Book of Malachi emphasize the people s disobedience towards God and
desperate need for redemption, or as the Christian community would interpret it, a savior. For Jews,
this is a call to action and to return to God from devious ways. The Book of Malachi s place in the
middle of the Hebrew Bible reflects its significance as a moral lesson and warning. In the Christian
Bible, having this book placed last and the Gospels following it, there is a fulfillment of the
prophecies. For Christian communities, continuity is established through the prophecies of Jesus
Christ.
In almost every case, the location of a biblical book relative to other canonical books, whether in
terms of the grouping in which it is placed, or the book(s) that follow or precede it, has hermeneutical
significance for the reader who seeks meaning in the text (Goswell, 688). For Christians and Jews,
their understanding of scriptures purpose is derived from religious texts. The textual arrangement
portrays and supports an entirely different meaning to each community. For the Jewish community, the
canons reveal their belief in God and their role with the divine entity. The books of the Hebrew Bible
take particular significance with the Jewish community in

Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the...
Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment
Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion taking
over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130, 30, 15, 12,
and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive and still
increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of
industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from
fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists have
calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more content on

Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly
refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics nonetheless
illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has without a doubt
led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the beginning of the
Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities, initially in the new
territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever realizing that the
Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and nature. There is a
real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities will have changed the
basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These basic conditions include
the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural resources. Such expansion
(since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments began, on a small scale, to effect
the environment in many ways. The first element of the environment that was immediately effected
was forests. Massive deforestation occurred, and still does so today, as land was cleared to make way
for new towns. Moreover, many construction projects also used wood from trees, not to mention other
commercial uses, such as paper, and fuel. Deforestation may

David Bosworth Faith And Resilience Summary
In the article Faith and Resilience: King David s Reaction to the Death of Bathsheba s Firstborn,
David Bosworth writes to prove that David s behavior in 2 Samuel 12:13 25 is because he is a resilient
individual. I believe that Bosworth makes a well supported argument to explain how David s lack of
mourning is because his faith makes him resilient in times of adversity (692). Bosworth breaks his
argument down into sections discussing how David s actions tie in with supplication, the concept of
resilience, and various pathways to resilience. Bosworth s goal is to clarify how the strange behavior
of David in this episode presents him as a man whose faith makes him resilient in times of adversity.
Bosworth first clarifies that David s behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author points out that regardless of any of the other possible explanations, the text only points at
David s piety as the reason for his resilience. Although the servants are still confused by his actions
they may not understand because David characterizes himself as someone who finds resilience
through religion. Bosworth continues his argument by stating that the ability to find meaning in a loss
is a core part of grieving and generally surviving adversity (Bosworth, 703). David knows that he
deserves to die and his sin is the reason for his infant son s illness. He begs God to change his mind,
but when he does not, David accepts this and moves on. Bosworth then adds personal guilt can bring a
sense of control to an event that otherwise seems random, inexplicable, and beyond control (704). The
death of David s infant son makes sense to him because he accepts that God has done this to punish
him for his wrongdoing. The author also references some biblical texts to support the reasoning for
David s belief that his son died for a moral reason. Closing his argument, Bosworth compares David s
character in this particular passage to his character throughout the rest of the text. He finds that David
continually acts with the same self reliance and reliance on God throughout all of his trials

the onset of the behavior rather than a continuation of the behavior (Morris Higgins, 2010).
Definitions refer to the influence of factors with one s having fdefine the appriateness f an act. This
involves one s rationalization, neutralizations, justifications, and excuses toward engaging in a certain
behavior. The more someone has learned and approves of definitions favorable to deviance, the more
likely they will participate in that behavior (Morris Higgins, 2010). Hacking and the Social Learning
Theory The social learning theory views hackers as individuals who are socialized into breaking rules
through peer association. A majority of hackers are young and learn from their friends in a type of
communal environment. Studies show that this behavior takes place in a distinctive socio cultural
context and communal structure. Just like social learning takes place in the terrestrial world, it also
takes place in the virtual world. Peer association and social learning in the hacking subculture takes
place in both the terrestrial and virtual worlds. In the terrestrial world, hackers participate in organized
conferenes, such as the annual DEFCON hacker gathering, at which knowledge, tools and tales are
exchanged. Chapters of the 2600 hackers organization meet weekly in towns and cities across the US.

Financial Aid in Education Essay
Financial Aid in Education
A guy in $50,000 of debt has got to be irresponsible with his money right? Actually, it is more likely
that he is a college student. Hundreds of thousands of college students around the country are in a
financial predicament because of the government?s impersonal financial aid policies. The federal
government?s current system has too many quirks which end up hurting the people that financial aid is
supposed to help. The federal government should change its financial aid policies to take several more
factors, such as the percentage of educational expenses paid by the student, into account.
Under the present system, all students applying for federal aid file a form called the Free Application
for Federal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government does not use this application for aid. The CSS Profile is a service provided by
The College Board. It includes many more factors such as the age of the parents, house payments, and
car payments. Mostly expensive private universities use the CSS Profile because their students have
much more financial need.
The current system does a fairly decent job of predicting the amount of aid needed assuming both the
parents and the student are paying for the student?s education. The big problem with the system is that
not all parents help pay for their child?s education. According to the current system, the student would
have to cover the expected contribution from their parents as well as their own expected contribution
should their parents decide not to help foot the bill. For example, if a student from a middle class
family which is earning $70,000 a year. Assuming the student was earning $3,000, and that student
wanted to attend Duke University, approximately $33,000 a year, the family would be expected to pay
$13,641 of the bill for each year2. If the parents choose not to help the student pay, then it would be
the student?s responsibility to pay every bit of the $13,641. How many students graduating high
school can afford that? I think that this factor could quite possibly be the biggest reason that students
think they cannot afford college.
Another problem is that the current system actually punishes students for saving their

Making Movie Sequels
I know Hollywood executives cannot resist making movie sequels, especially when the first movie
made millions. In most cases, a film must make at least $50 million in order for executives to consider
making a second film. Creating a sequel is tough, mainly because of the audiences high expectations.
The films on this list were definitely disappointing, and in some cases, the movies should have never
been made.
Number One: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013).
Main characters: Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and Christina Applegate

Steve Carell is a spectacular actor, but he s no Jim Carrey. Carrey was extraordinary in Bruce
Almighty, and there was no way Carell could compete with his performance. The great thing about
Bruce Almighty is it was unique and exceptionally written uniqueness cannot be duplicated. Evan
Almighty lacked the comical genius that made Bruce Almighty so exceptional.
Number Three: Grease 2 (1982).
Main characters: Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Adrian Zmed
Again, Hollywood made another sequel without the main characters. The 1978 Grease film was a
classic movie starring Olivia Newton John, John Travolta, and Stockard Channing. I love Michelle
Pfeiffer, but she had a tough task to achieve. The first Grease movie is still considered to be one of the
best films ever made, and the odds of anyone being able to recreate the magic was slim to none.
Grease 2 was severely lacking one main ingredient the chemistry between John Travolta and Olivia
Newton John.
Number Four: The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997).
Main characters: Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, and Vince

Box Jellyfish: Nothing Square About It For many people, water is a source of relaxation and comfort,
while others believe that it can be dangerous and deceiving, but often times people do not look at what
lives among it. Whether it is a body of fresh water, or a body of salt water, many creatures lurk among
the depths of seas, oceans, lakes, and rivers without gaining the attention of human beings. With this, a
plethora of sea creatures that tend to remain hidden can harm human beings. People believe that
sharks are the deadliest sea creature on the planet, however, this is a false statement. Sharks are most

As for the blue ringed octopus, this animal can somewhat compare to a sea wasp when it comes to
staying hidden. The blue ringed octopus can control its dermal cells, allowing it to camouflage itself in
the rocks and reefs throughout their respective oceans. Also, the size of the octopus helps its case
against box jellies, being that the blue ringed octopus is no bigger than a golf ball (Barnett). But this
could hurt the octopus if it is looked at from another viewpoint; the size of the box jellyfish and its
tentacles are the reason that it is above the blue ringed octopus in lethality. The length of the box
jellyfish allows it to inflict more damage, and release more venom than a blue ringed octopus. By
looking at box jellies from this perspective, they are clearly more deadly than their fellow dangerous
sea creatures. With the possibilities of dying by way of cardiac arrest, heart failure, drowning, and
Irukandji Syndrome, box jellies have many ways to kill a human being. These aquatic devils have
been on record for killing people around the Australian area since 1884. In 2003, a seven year old boy
swimming on an unprotected beach near Cairns, Australia, was stung by a sea wasp. The boy
immediately screamed in pain while his grandfather pulled him out of the water. But before the boy
could be administered the anti venom, he went into cardiac arrest and died. This boy became the sixty

Evolutionary Game Theory ( Egt )
Evolutionary Game Theory (EGT) is a new field of study that combines the principles of game theory,
biology, evolution and non linear dynamics. Unlike game theory that studies and analyzes a rational
behavior based on the actions of others, evolutionary game theory analysis is based on settings in
which an individual is mainly not reasonable and even something cannot explicitly make decisions.
An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of
behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out.
John Maynard Smith and G. R. Price first expressed the idea of evolutionary game theory to explain
biological phenomena by observing the fitness of an organism based on the ... Show more content on

Each population is then partitioned into groups.
Agent i has population groups: Ei1, Ei2, ..., Eik Individuals in a group Eij would all play the same
strategy Si.
Members of the populations will play against each other randomly. A group of individuals belonging
to the same sub population that performs the best would grow and the others will shrink. This
performance will be repeated indefinitely. Ideally, the evolution will lead to an idea of a stable state
for a population.
s1, ..., sn тИИ S are the pure strategies available. We define the column vector x to represent the
probabilities of playing strategy si. A represents the payoff matrix. A player using strategy x against an
opponent using strategy y will have the payoff xTAy
3. Evolutionary Stable Strategies
The idea of Nash Equilibrium in EGT is represented by an evolutionary stable strategy (ESS). If the
evolution of a population converges to this stable state, then it will remain there. Given a whole
population using strategy S that is evolutionarily stable, any small group of invaders using a different
strategy T will eventually shrink and fade over multiple generations. This group of invaders will have
strictly lower fitness than the initial population. In order for S to be evolutionarily stable, the payoff to
using this strategy S against the same strategy S played by others must be at least as large as the

Informative Speech On Aorta
Definition
The aorta is the largest artery of the body. Its job is to disperse blood to smaller arteries to be sure all
of the parts of the body receive an efficient supply of well oxygenated blood. This artery connects to
the aortic valve of the heart. This valve opens and closes, so blood can leave the heart. It has to close
completely and open widely for the right amount of blood to be able to flow through. If there are any
problems with it, and it can t push through blood from the aorta, a person might end up needing aortic
valve replacement surgery.
Symptoms
The symptoms of problems with the aortic valve are similar to that of a heart attack. There is chest
pain and pressure that some describe as feeling like the heart is being squeezed. The heart might also

The Multiple Intelligences Theory Developed By Howard Gardner
This research paper will unpack the multiple intelligences theory developed by Howard Gardner.
According to Molly Zhou and David Brown, Howard Gardner s theory of Multiple Intelligences
utilizes aspects of cognitive and developmental psychology, anthropology, and sociology to explain
the human intellect (Zhou Brown, 2015). By touching on the life of Howard Gardner, exploring some
of his achievements, and studying his theory as well as how it relates to the modern day classroom, a
better understanding of what teachers are up against will be reached. Biographical Background of

Howard Gardner s theory challenged that by stating an intelligence encompasses the ability to create
and solve problems, create products or provide services that are valued within a culture or society
(Zhou Brown, 2015). Next, Howard Gardner established a list of eight criteria for identifying what a
true intelligence is. In the past, studies were done on individuals with brain injury, diseases, and
psychological disorders. These studies helped determine what portions of the brain were responsible
for which functions. Howard Gardner listed that a true intelligence will have its function identified in
a specific location in the human brain (McKenzie). Also, unique individuals, like prodigies, show that,
in rare instances, a human being can perform highly developed intelligences (McKenzie). In addition,
there is an identifiable set of procedures and practices which are unique to each true intelligence
(McKenzie). Just as humans have developmental stages in cognitive growth, a true intelligence must
contain stages that individuals can climb that ultimately lead to an expert like level (McKenzie). A true
intelligence must also have its roots in the evolution of humanity (McKenzie). Another criteria; for or
an intelligence to be considered true, it must be able to withstand psychological and

Hiv And The Treatment Of Hiv
Intro: There have been 30 drugs approved to treat Hiv, but currently there are no cures for this virus.
The treatment for Hiv can help people live with the virus while taking care of your physical, mental
health, and overall well being. Starting treatment as soon as possible it can help your health
circumstances and strengthen your immune system. Getting tested for HIV is very important to
decrease the spread of the virus and save many lives.
Getting tested to know your status in order to avoid illnesses is important.
The growth of new infections continues to pose serious health problems/risk. Today in America there
are 1.2 million people who are infected with HIV. Out of the 1.2 million people, twenty percent of
them are unaware of their HIV status. In the event of the possibility of exposure or contamination of
HIV it is smart to get tested regularly to not infect others or get early treatment. You can reduce your
risk by getting tested early often. Early detection can lead to a better treatment and a greater outcome
for a longer life expectancy. You should get tested if never got tested before. The centers of disease
control and prevention recommends that you should get tested at least once a year if you participate in
activities that can cause Hiv infection.
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is an infection. Many infections may cause the
body to be chilly and stay in the body just for a few days. On the other hand, HIV will never go away.

Darwinian Snail Lab Report
Darwinian Snails: Introduction In this experiment, we studied the manipulated effects of evolution by
natural selection within a population of snails along the Rocky Coastline. The simulation of this lab is
based of the real life experiments of Robin Seeley. Seeley studied the the shell shape and thickness of
the intertidal snail, Littorina obtusata, in northern New England. He saw that the shells had changed
drastically between 1871 and 1884. Shells before 1884, were high spiraled with thin walls. Compared
to the shells found after 1884 were low spiraled with thick walls. After doing some research, Seeley
found that an intertidal crab, Carcinus maenas, had sought after the snails for food.(Seeley) It was

It seems like we as a population are always changing to adapt to a new, better way of life, but when
does better become enough? In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so they won
t be eaten by the crabs. In our experiment (McRae; Snails), we were asked to see how the snails
evolved through natural selection, by changing variation, inheritance, and the selection of the
population. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still evolve if all
the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell
thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new
conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the offspring would not be
identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw a more variety in the
population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of target and getting eaten
more likely than others. Next we played with selection. Here I got to choose which snails I wanted to
eat, being as I was the crab. I went for the ones that were easier to

Freud s Worst Nightmare Perfect Sex Dream
In her article, author Barbra Creed discusses a wide range of theories and assumptions on Freud and
his relation to modern cinema, memories, and the development of the original horror film. She begins
by describing Freud and his obsession with horror. She briefly mentions some of his case histories that
entail themes of sexual abuse, hysteria, bestiality, phobias, and perversity, but primarily continues to
inform us of his hatred of cinema. Considering Freud was born in 1856, he was just reaching his mid
50 s when early cinema really took off. Films and movies became the forefront of entertainment, the
must see attraction by audiences across the country, and the newest daring art form. This was,
however, an art form that Sir Sigmund Freud wanted nothing to do with. Despite having several films
be inspired by his theories and writings, Freud refused to become involved with films and filmmaking,
and even avoided being captured on camera in his daughter s home videos. The reason for this hatred
however, is neglected and left questionable by Creed.
The author points out that early cinema was known for stretching the boundaries on narrative
filmmaking by incorporating elements of sex, desire, and eroticism, which were, of course, main
focuses of Freud s countless writings. She continues her analysis by efficiently describing the modern
self and the divided self: two

Influences On The Public Perception Of Missing Children
There are many missing children in the world today. We as a society go about our daily activities not
thinking about the criminal actions of others. We are not faced with the concerns of crimes unless we
are the victims. We depend on communication outlets to stay updated with local, state and
international events. The actual number of children missing is alarming and yet unknown. Influences
on the public perception The writer of this chapter pinpointed the views of the world in a great way.
There are many influences on the public perception of missing children. During the reading, it was
noted that media coverage has a significant impact on society s point of view. News media focus on
sensational cases to determine the public s perception of child abductions. (Kappeler Potter, p.54) This
influence can be positive and negative creating fears and myths. The news stories and developing
information regarding missing children determines the interest level of viewers. It has been
determined that society craves drama and action in the news and entertainment. The horror stories
make great media attention. Therefore, the idea of pictures of missing children allows viewers to relate
on a visual level. (Kappeler Potter, p.54) It was enlightening to see that facts presented in the media
can be distorting. The creation of stereotypes regarding the offenders can be misleading as well. The
first assumptions we have as a community of the suspects; naturally, they are

almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I m not the same, the next question is,
who in the world am I? Ah, THAT S the great puzzle! (Carroll) This quote is from the author of Alice
s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll. He was man that had a passion for many different
professions and hobbies. Carroll did not let one profession define him. Every day he decided who he

One significant detail in Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There is the mirror
imagery through out the entire book there is a wrong way round theme that appears to have been
sparked by the attempts to correct his left handedness and his personal feelings of insecurity because
he wrote with his left hand. Carroll s elementary age was spent doing school at home, his mother
taught him until the age of twelve. At that age, Carroll was sent to a small private school called
Richmond Grammar School in Richmond, London, England. Carroll s brilliance was made known
there when the head master, Dr. James Tate, wrote a kind letter to Carroll s father, expressing his
amazement in Carroll saying he possesses a very uncommon share of genius. Gentle and cheerful in
his intercourse with others, playful and ready in conversation, he is capable of acquirements and
knowledge far beyond his years stating his parents may fairly anticipate for him a bright career.
(Leach 8) Just as Carroll got settled there, in 1845, his parents moved him once again. This time
Carroll was sent to an all boys private school better known as, Rugby. Carroll then moved on from
Rugby at the end of 1849, having attended for four years. In January 1851 Carroll

Shortcomings And Weaknesses Of The Mazars Report
What are the shortcomings/weaknesses that you are seeing in integrated reporting in general

From the Mazars Report, there is some shortcoming of integrated reporting (IR) but these shortcoming
are potential to be improved to be a better one as IR is a process of continuation and improvement of
current reporting approaches. Following are the shortcomings of IR from the Mazars Report:
Risk and opportunities can be identified and explained, however, it is lack of details in analysis and

In the event that vital goals are frequently all around portrayed in various time scales, the connection

Complexity and lack of clarity has pointed out by Welch (2013), Associated of Chartered Certified

complexity and increase clarity; however, it might distort the objective of IR while a set of non

the basic right to marry each other and be in an official documented relationship. This violated the
equal protection clause due to the fact that gay or lesbian weren t treated equally compared to
heterosexual couples and denied their right to marriage. The fight for equal marriage continued further
for two to three years until finally in June of 2016 the supreme court issued that same sex marriage is
officially legal in all fifty states across the U.S. solidifying the Fourteenth amendment as truly far

Camera Phones Trigger Controversy Essay
Camera Phones Trigger Controversy
When Catherine Zeta Jones appeared in a television commercial, she was one of the first to advertise
one of the newest additions to a cell phone: the camera phone. The purpose of the commercial was to
show how convenient, compact and useful such an apparatus could turn out to be. The theory is quite
simple, basically combining a cell phone and a digital camera into one gadget. Major cellular
companies like Nokia, Samsung and Sanyo observed how popular digital cameras were becoming, and
decided to integrate it with one device most Americans find a necessity and not a luxury; the cell
phone. No sooner than the phones hit the market, did the stores sell out of the phone. In 2002 An

Lets us start by examining the area of compatibility. Gone are the days of old where you need to carry
separate items. Now, everything is integrated into one nice piece. A phone can also be a camera, and
can also be used for email, games, a phone book and an alarm clock. If we pattern the growth of
technology, we can see all things: printers, fax machines, scanners, etc. have become multifunctional
(Zdnet). The cellular telephone is no exception, and the camera phone is proof of that. Multi
functional devices are good for companies because they can focus on primarily one product, and it is
good for the consumer, as the consumer needs not buy multiple devices.
So what would possess cellular companies to invest millions to integrate a digital camera and a
cellular phone? Its is basically a quest to make both the consumer and the manufacturer better off than
they were before. For the consumer, it is a quick and easy way to take snapshots in an instant, and
send them to the desired people. Since people carry a phone on them wherever they go, now a camera
will follow them. Imagine witnessing a crime in the middle of the street, where usually no surveillance
cameras exist. A person using a camera phone can capture the criminal s picture, and aid police in his

Psycho, By Alfred Hitchcock
We all go a little mad sometimes, and that could possibly be exactly how many feel after watching
Psycho, released in 1960, and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock took a different route in terms
of plot and structure for the typical Hollywood style. Psycho, like a young child never stops asking
questions, it leaves us in a state of doubt and unbelief. It is classic horror, with the numerous jump
scares leaving us at the edge of our seat, as every moment passes. Yet in the beginning, it s seems to
portray a rather classic form in a sense, a near Aristotelian story. A woman who appears to be the main
character in love, who is then faced with a problem, not enough money to marry her love, who then
steals money to help build a future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s get this clear about the only certainty that was in Psycho, was the first couple seconds of the
movie when it displayed the location and the date. Everything else known to be true later on ended in
a twist. For example, take the cover of Psycho, at first glance many may assume that Marian Crane,
the woman on the cover, is ultimately the main character, the protagonist, the hero. If the cover didn t
help out the opening scene was revealed two characters a man (Sam) and a woman (Marian) who
appear to be in love. We have identified the main character Marian and we have identified the problem
or goal a protagonist must achieve in a movie, obtain money so Marian and Sam can get married.
Then we see Marian at work, where a rude, self pleasing, arrogant, rich man enters bargaining about
himself and his daughter s wedding. Marian is then presented with a task deliver the money to the
bank. Hitchcock has successfully set the bait and hooked the audience into backing Marian in any
decision. She s doing it for love right, and the jerk has plenty of money anyway. After watching the
entire movie I began to realize the true brilliance of Alfred Hitchcock, because, of course everyone
loves a hero good, let s kill her 40 minutes into the movie and this is where things became interesting
the structure of the film. Doubt begins to creep into the minds of the

The weather of the months leading up to the South East Queensland floods not only gives an
indication of the weather patterns before the flood, but shows the continuity and change in the
weather, which ended up causing this catastrophic natural disaster. The SE QLD floods was the result
of a continuum of a build up of conditions, which can be seen in the synoptic charts.
As seen in the Mid September month, there were many high pressure systems of 1025+ hectopascals

pressure system condition, bringing heavy rain, for example most of the Cairns region recorded more
than 200mm during the week. With a trough extending from Northern Territory to QLD also brought
strengthened conditions to this area of the country. This trough is the beginning of an easterly dip,
which are good sources of flood conditions. This weather in November impacted this area of QLD

  • 2. Hand Gesture Recognition Essay 1. INTRODUCTION In this Project design and implementation of an algorithm for hand gesture recognition will be done and we will explore its application in Banking Security. This system will have the wired mode of control and the webcam of the laptop will be used for image acquisition. This Project describes Security system using Hand gestures using a novel algorithm that can be used for Banking Security. At the time of robbery in bank, by making a cross hand gesture by any employer or customer, the doors of the bank will get closed and the nearby police station will be informed about the robbery. It is very important for every bank to provide security to their customers and employees, so the main purpose of the project is to provide security to the customers and employees of the bank. At the time of robbery in bank, the money of the bank and the life of the customers and the employees are at risk, this project will use hand gesture recognition technique to recognize the special hand gesture of the employees so that nearby police can be informed about the robbery just by recognizing that special hand gesture. In this project we will use laptop web camera to acquire image of the gesture. We will use the skin color detection technique as it can detect different skin colors under cluttered background .The segmentation considered as an open issue problem itself. The color space used in a specific application plays an essential role in the success of segmentation process, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Mikhail Kalatozov s Film I Am Cuba A Call of the Revolution Watching Mikhail Kalatozov s film I am Cuba (1967) is a moving cinematic experience. In the beginning, the film portrays a stereotypical Cuba through a carefree party on the rooftop and the contrasting scenes of the prostitute s destitute village and the glamorous casino. The film depicts how Cuba moves from a repressed country to an epicenter of revolution through four vignettes in which each builds momentum to the next and an overall narrator that bridges the stories. The film narrates a movement starting with how the oppressive capitalists exploit Cuba and push the people over the edge. In the second half, the Cuban people move from passivity to actions, shown by a university protest and a villager joining the militia in a revolution to overthrow the corrupt regime. Among the vignettes, Enrique s leadership in the university student protest stands out the most. Complemented by the shift in the camera s perspective of space in relation to characters, it is a crucial turning point where the plot changes from the focus on a powerless individual to a vision depicting the power of collective action. Enrique s mission to assassinate the chief of police is a failed individual quest. The camera distorts the viewers senses and moves with fundamental autonomy from the protagonist to convey the futility of the individual against the formidable political establishment (Oukaderova, 70). He loses his sense of direction when he acts independent of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Minerva System 1. What has been your involvement in Beuth? Honestly, my initial reaction to the minerva meetings was that I was surprised about the meetings because I really did not see the point in just voting for events. The very first meeting was where many people people came and a lot of upperclassmen came as well and they were the ones who mostly introduced the events and I did not know a whole lot about the minerva system. Initially, the meaning of minerva houses is oblivious to most incoming freshman and I realized this when I was helping out as a student ambassador for Union College and asking the families if they had any questions about this college and most of the families wanted to know more about the minerva system as this a concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The meetings really encourage everyone to show their creative side and since it is mostly freshman who attend the meeting it is a safe place so even the shiest people can participate. The first minerva meeting that I observed was how the minerva system works and realized that it was a pretty simple process of getting an idea approved. I have observed that minerva meetings are places where students are encouraged to take action on an event that they are thinking about everyone is given an equal chance. What has always stuck with me about the meetings is that all clubs and students are encouraged to work together when they come up with the same events and make it even better and not outdo each other. I have had a first hand experience of this because the club that I am involved in wanted to do a week long event on the Syrian Refugee Crisis and we had it planned and someone also said that the he/she wanted to to do a dinner and discussion on this event so we said that we have also thought about this and we were informed that the minerva aren t a place for competition and rather we should combine our ideas and maybe join together and this was a great learning experience for me and others. My friend and I decided to propose an event to the minerva council about an international talent night to the council so they suggested some ways to just as best time, performer groups and other ideas for this event and this really ... There are many points that they try to prove to say that we did not land on the moon such as the flag movement, no stars, and that the shadows were messed up. There are many ways to prove them wrong with the proof they have that we landed on the moon. Conspiracy theorists have pointed out that we did not land on the moon with many points such as the flag was moving. According to Josh Fox, one of several authors from Listverse, The moon landing hoax is the total lack of stars in any of the photographic/video evidence. There are no clouds on the moon, so stars are perpetually visible and significantly brighter than what we see through the filter of Earth s atmosphere (Moon landings could be a hoax). According to Erin Ruberry, Washington, D.C. based writer and editor specializing in digital media, The reason that the stars do not show up on the film is that the stars are so dim that the camera cannot gather enough of their light in a short exposure. Our eyes are a lot more sensitive to light than photographic film (Reason for no stars). Another reason from Brent Sibly, author from def logic.com/cached source, The moon is a very bright whitish object, which reflects the light from the sun as brightly as snow. Since the astronauts were constantly surrounded by the bright reflecting surface of the moon, they were always brightly lit (We went to the moon). The mythbusters proved that the astronauts and camera did not pick the stars by making similar dust to the moon and shined light on the dust and it reflected brightly and the brighter the moon is the harder it is to see the moon. However, these communities are divergent in their beliefs. The fundamental differences lie within the literary composition of each theology s sacred texts. The shape and structure of the Jewish and Christian canons are arranged to substantiate each community s religious beliefs. Jews and Christians arranged their canons differently to obtain a specific outcome in relation to their fundamental beliefs. First off, the Jews arranged their books in the Hebrew Bible to reflect their covenantal relationship with God. The 24 books are organized by genre of scripture and tell the history of God s relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These passages from the Book of Malachi emphasize the people s disobedience towards God and desperate need for redemption, or as the Christian community would interpret it, a savior. For Jews, this is a call to action and to return to God from devious ways. The Book of Malachi s place in the middle of the Hebrew Bible reflects its significance as a moral lesson and warning. In the Christian Bible, having this book placed last and the Gospels following it, there is a fulfillment of the prophecies. For Christian communities, continuity is established through the prophecies of Jesus Christ. In almost every case, the location of a biblical book relative to other canonical books, whether in terms of the grouping in which it is placed, or the book(s) that follow or precede it, has hermeneutical significance for the reader who seeks meaning in the text (Goswell, 688). For Christians and Jews, their understanding of scriptures purpose is derived from religious texts. The textual arrangement portrays and supports an entirely different meaning to each community. For the Jewish community, the canons reveal their belief in God and their role with the divine entity. The books of the Hebrew Bible take particular significance with the Jewish community in ... • 12. Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the... Effects of Overpopulation and Industrialization on the Environment Throughout history, the world s population has expanded in an extremely exponential fashion taking over three million years to achieve a one billion person benchmark, it then only took 130, 30, 15, 12, and 11 years to reach subsequent billions, respectively. (Southwick, 159) Such a massive and still increasing population, combined with the environmentally detrimental repercussions of industrialization (as a result of the need to sustain such a large population), namely pollution from fossil fuels, has begun to take a serious toll on our planet s ecosystem. Moreover, some scientists have calculated that an optimal human population on earth in terms of reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of whether or not pollution increases as population increases, (Edwin Dolin strongly refutes this principle that population increases lead to increases in pollution) the statistics nonetheless illustrate that increased population, and now what many consider overpopulation, has without a doubt led to continuingly deteriorating environmental conditions. Especially since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, new technologies have enabled cultures and communities, initially in the new territories traversed by the Europeans, to expand in populace: we are forever realizing that the Industrial Revolution has changed forever the relationship between humanity and nature. There is a real concern that by the middle or the end of the 21st century human activities will have changed the basic conditions that have allowed life to thrive on earth. (Internet 1) These basic conditions include the earth s natural climate and the depletion and manipulation of its natural resources. Such expansion (since the Industrial Revolution) and creation of new establishments began, on a small scale, to effect the environment in many ways. The first element of the environment that was immediately effected was forests. Massive deforestation occurred, and still does so today, as land was cleared to make way for new towns. Moreover, many construction projects also used wood from trees, not to mention other commercial uses, such as paper, and fuel. Deforestation may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. David Bosworth Faith And Resilience Summary In the article Faith and Resilience: King David s Reaction to the Death of Bathsheba s Firstborn, David Bosworth writes to prove that David s behavior in 2 Samuel 12:13 25 is because he is a resilient individual. I believe that Bosworth makes a well supported argument to explain how David s lack of mourning is because his faith makes him resilient in times of adversity (692). Bosworth breaks his argument down into sections discussing how David s actions tie in with supplication, the concept of resilience, and various pathways to resilience. Bosworth s goal is to clarify how the strange behavior of David in this episode presents him as a man whose faith makes him resilient in times of adversity. Bosworth first clarifies that David s behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author points out that regardless of any of the other possible explanations, the text only points at David s piety as the reason for his resilience. Although the servants are still confused by his actions they may not understand because David characterizes himself as someone who finds resilience through religion. Bosworth continues his argument by stating that the ability to find meaning in a loss is a core part of grieving and generally surviving adversity (Bosworth, 703). David knows that he deserves to die and his sin is the reason for his infant son s illness. He begs God to change his mind, but when he does not, David accepts this and moves on. Bosworth then adds personal guilt can bring a sense of control to an event that otherwise seems random, inexplicable, and beyond control (704). The death of David s infant son makes sense to him because he accepts that God has done this to punish him for his wrongdoing. The author also references some biblical texts to support the reasoning for David s belief that his son died for a moral reason. Closing his argument, Bosworth compares David s character in this particular passage to his character throughout the rest of the text. He finds that David continually acts with the same self reliance and reliance on God throughout all of his trials ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Hacking And The Social Learning Theory favorable or consequential outcomes that are observed. Imitation is more likely to be responsible for the onset of the behavior rather than a continuation of the behavior (Morris Higgins, 2010). Definitions refer to the influence of factors with one s having fdefine the appriateness f an act. This involves one s rationalization, neutralizations, justifications, and excuses toward engaging in a certain behavior. The more someone has learned and approves of definitions favorable to deviance, the more likely they will participate in that behavior (Morris Higgins, 2010). Hacking and the Social Learning Theory The social learning theory views hackers as individuals who are socialized into breaking rules through peer association. A majority of hackers are young and learn from their friends in a type of communal environment. Actually, it is more likely that he is a college student. Hundreds of thousands of college students around the country are in a financial predicament because of the government?s impersonal financial aid policies. The federal government?s current system has too many quirks which end up hurting the people that financial aid is supposed to help. The federal government should change its financial aid policies to take several more factors, such as the percentage of educational expenses paid by the student, into account. The federal government does not use this application for aid. The CSS Profile is a service provided by The College Board. It includes many more factors such as the age of the parents, house payments, and car payments. Mostly expensive private universities use the CSS Profile because their students have much more financial need. The current system does a fairly decent job of predicting the amount of aid needed assuming both the parents and the student are paying for the student?s education. The big problem with the system is that not all parents help pay for their child?s education. According to the current system, the student would have to cover the expected contribution from their parents as well as their own expected contribution should their parents decide not to help foot the bill. For example, if a student from a middle class family which is earning $70,000 a year. Assuming the student was earning $3,000, and that student wanted to attend Duke University, approximately $33,000 a year, the family would be expected to pay $13,641 of the bill for each year2. If the parents choose not to help the student pay, then it would be the student?s responsibility to pay every bit of the $13,641. How many students graduating high school can afford that? I think that this factor could quite possibly be the biggest reason that students think they cannot afford college. Whether it is a body of fresh water, or a body of salt water, many creatures lurk among the depths of seas, oceans, lakes, and rivers without gaining the attention of human beings. With this, a plethora of sea creatures that tend to remain hidden can harm human beings. People believe that sharks are the deadliest sea creature on the planet, however, this is a false statement. The blue ringed octopus can control its dermal cells, allowing it to camouflage itself in the rocks and reefs throughout their respective oceans. Also, the size of the octopus helps its case against box jellies, being that the blue ringed octopus is no bigger than a golf ball (Barnett). But this could hurt the octopus if it is looked at from another viewpoint; the size of the box jellyfish and its tentacles are the reason that it is above the blue ringed octopus in lethality. The length of the box jellyfish allows it to inflict more damage, and release more venom than a blue ringed octopus. By looking at box jellies from this perspective, they are clearly more deadly than their fellow dangerous sea creatures. Unlike game theory that studies and analyzes a rational behavior based on the actions of others, evolutionary game theory analysis is based on settings in which an individual is mainly not reasonable and even something cannot explicitly make decisions. An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out. John Maynard Smith and G. R. In the past, studies were done on individuals with brain injury, diseases, and psychological disorders. These studies helped determine what portions of the brain were responsible for which functions. Howard Gardner listed that a true intelligence will have its function identified in a specific location in the human brain (McKenzie). Also, unique individuals, like prodigies, show that, in rare instances, a human being can perform highly developed intelligences (McKenzie). In addition, there is an identifiable set of procedures and practices which are unique to each true intelligence (McKenzie). Just as humans have developmental stages in cognitive growth, a true intelligence must contain stages that individuals can climb that ultimately lead to an expert like level (McKenzie). A true intelligence must also have its roots in the evolution of humanity (McKenzie). In this snail experiment, I expect to find the snails changing, so they won t be eaten by the crabs. When changing variation, we were looking to see if the population would still evolve if all the shells started with the same thickness. In this we found that with no variation occurring, the shell thickness didn t change and still were eaten because they couldn t evolve to adapt to the new conditions. Next we experimented with inheritance. We made it to where the offspring would not be identical to the parent snail, growing at a random thickness. Here we saw a more variety in the population. After this we saw snails with thinner shells, becoming more of target and getting eaten more likely than others. Next we played with selection. She begins by describing Freud and his obsession with horror. She briefly mentions some of his case histories that entail themes of sexual abuse, hysteria, bestiality, phobias, and perversity, but primarily continues to inform us of his hatred of cinema. Considering Freud was born in 1856, he was just reaching his mid 50 s when early cinema really took off. Films and movies became the forefront of entertainment, the must see attraction by audiences across the country, and the newest daring art form. This was, however, an art form that Sir Sigmund Freud wanted nothing to do with. Despite having several films be inspired by his theories and writings, Freud refused to become involved with films and filmmaking, and even avoided being captured on camera in his daughter s home videos. The reason for this hatred however, is neglected and left questionable by Creed. The author points out that early cinema was known for stretching the boundaries on narrative filmmaking by incorporating elements of sex, desire, and eroticism, which were, of course, main focuses of Freud s countless writings. • 39. Psycho, By Alfred Hitchcock We all go a little mad sometimes, and that could possibly be exactly how many feel after watching Psycho, released in 1960, and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock took a different route in terms of plot and structure for the typical Hollywood style. Psycho, like a young child never stops asking questions, it leaves us in a state of doubt and unbelief. It is classic horror, with the numerous jump scares leaving us at the edge of our seat, as every moment passes. Yet in the beginning, it s seems to portray a rather classic form in a sense, a near Aristotelian story. A woman who appears to be the main character in love, who is then faced with a problem, not enough money to marry her love, who then steals money to help build a future ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s get this clear about the only certainty that was in Psycho, was the first couple seconds of the movie when it displayed the location and the date. Everything else known to be true later on ended in a twist. For example, take the cover of Psycho, at first glance many may assume that Marian Crane, the woman on the cover, is ultimately the main character, the protagonist, the hero. If the cover didn t help out the opening scene was revealed two characters a man (Sam) and a woman (Marian) who appear to be in love. We have identified the main character Marian and we have identified the problem or goal a protagonist must achieve in a movie, obtain money so Marian and Sam can get married. Then we see Marian at work, where a rude, self pleasing, arrogant, rich man enters bargaining about himself and his daughter s wedding. Marian is then presented with a task deliver the money to the bank. Hitchcock has successfully set the bait and hooked the audience into backing Marian in any decision. She s doing it for love right, and the jerk has plenty of money anyway. After watching the entire movie I began to realize the true brilliance of Alfred Hitchcock, because, of course everyone loves a hero good, let s kill her 40 minutes into the movie and this is where things became interesting the structure of the film. The logical construction of the secondary world is shown through the consistency of the magic s power.
