Claude Mckay was an African American poet originally from Jamaica, and an important figure in the
Harlem Renaissance, writing about his experience with racism and the bigoted society in America.
America, written by the poet Claude Mckay, was published in the year 1921. The 1920 s, also known
as the Roaring Twenties, were a time of great wealth and jubilee before the fall of the economy during
the Great Depression at the end of the decade. But underneath this surface of contentment, there was a
dark side that Americans did not care to address in society. The Jim Crow laws were in full force and
took away many rights of African Americans, ostracizing and belittling them. Claude Mckay was a
voice of retaliation against this hatred, and America is all about the duality of Mckay s feelings
towards America. Since Mckay is from Jamaica, he has a unique perspective as an immigrant to a
country that is supposed to be welcoming. It s a constant push and pull between love and hatred of
what this country has to offer. The title of this poem, America, blatantly shows what this poem is
going to be about. America is a sonnet comprised of three quatrains and a couplet, which results in 14
lines total. He also uses the iambic pentameter which consists of a short syllable followed by a
stressed syllable, which gives the poem a sort of rhythm. A quatrain is a stanza with alternating
rhymes, and this is demonstrated with the last words of the first and third, second and fourth, lines of

Studies have found that social class is measured by the indicators of material wealth, occupational
prestige or educational achievement. Due to this signaling process, an individual may develop
subjective perceptions of his or her rank in the social hierarchy. Additionally, research suggests lower
class individuals life outcome is often times more dependent on external forces in the social context
than upper class individuals. Furthermore, research noted empathic accuracy tends to increase with
more interdependence and may be an important predictor of relationship results and social adjustment.
The author asserts that research studies supporting these theoretic arguments are suggestive but
limited as they have not addressed how class based perceptual tendencies may have pronounced
effects on emotional processes. The current study was conducted in three different experiments. First,
participants were tested on whether or not lower social class is related to an elevated empathic
accuracy. In the second experiment, researchers tested whether or not social class predicts accuracy in
judging emotions during interaction. In addition, researchers examined whether or not a more
pronounced focus on the context explains the relationship between social class and empathic accuracy.

The first pathway, intimacy deficits, is formed by insecure attachment and an inability of the offenders

syndications in the country, and his own bravado would bring him to his knees.

This journal evaluates the nature of Indian water rights in their reservations. It also evaluates the use
of tribal sovereignty to protect water rights in Indian country. Indian country in the United States uses
their land for many hazardous practices to help their economic output. Their concern is to maintain a

Indian country have an ideal of placing the socio economic issues a priority compared to regulating
environmental problems. While researching mining and oil gas practices in the United States, I have

presence of school shootings became a great cause for concern for parents, students, and school staff.
To respond to this significantly increasing problem within schools, local police departments partnered

The research question How does the presence of security enforcement in schools affect students
involvement in crime and violence within schools will determine the overall effect school resource
officers have within schools. It will determine how their presence and increase security measures

Reflection On The Root Cellar
Since the beginning of September, I have been attending the Root Cellar in Portland Maine. My work
has varied time to time, but, mostly includes watching and hanging out with kids from age 5 18. I also
helped with projects around the organization and preparing meals for kids. Throughout my time at the
root cellar, I have noticed multiple scenarios where concepts we learn in the classroom are evident
with my experiences at this organization.
The first concept or chapter I am going to focus on is education. They provide multiple services for
the students attending to perform well in school and get extra help on homework or any other school
work. They provide private tutors for free in which they will help students with specific subjects. Two
times specifically stand out to me when thinking about the concept of education. The first was when I
was walking by and witnessed an older gentleman helping a student for about an hour with his english
homework. Next was when a little boy in the 4th grade came up to me and asked for some help with
his math homework. He was learning how to multiply numbers and I taught him the multiplying nines
trick on his hands. He was so amazed by this and was very thankful which made my whole experience
at The Root Cellar worth it.
The second concept I experienced was economic inequality. This is very apparent with people who
come into the root cellar as they are seeking assistance. My last time volunteering I noticed this as I
was picking up

Consciousness Arguments Against Turing s Test
The consciousness argument is the strongest objection against the Turing s test. Machines act by
interpreting symbols based on given rules. If they follow rules and interprets symbols, then the
programmers influence their actions, not their own thoughts and feelings. Since their own thoughts
and feelings do not influence their actions, they are not truly aware of how these actions can affect
their emotions and the surroundings. If machines are not aware of their behaviors, they are not
conscious. Without consciousness, machines cannot have minds. Therefore, the Turing s test is not
