Hypothesis Synthesis Essay
In order for alien eyes to see what humans can t see the structure and the amount of their
photoreceptor cells, have to differ.
Humans have three cone cells that are extremely sensitive to Red, (620 700nm), Green (490 570nm)
and Blue (450 495nm) wavelengths of light. Although these three cones are most sensitive to these
wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400 700nm.
When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and Green cones
capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. In this case the Red and Green cones
absorb light but the Green cones are less sensitive. Also, the Blue cones don t absorb much light and
are not sensitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if they were put in a similar situation where 600nm of light were to be observed, then their
yellow cones would signal an observation to their brain different than that of humans. In this
wavelength (600nm) only the yellow cone cells are activated and absorb light, therefore domestic dogs
would observe yellow light and humans would observe orange light.
If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would not be
able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar manner
that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light. It is only possible for the
human brain to view lights that are absorbed by their photoreceptor cells.
Furthermore, there are aquatic organisms such as the mantis shrimp that has an estimated 12 16
photoreceptor cells. In the presence of the 750 nm wavelength of light that humans cone cells aren t
sensitive enough to signal an observation, the mantis shrimps red cone cells are sensitive to this
wavelength of light and can absorb the wavelengths to send a response to their brain. In the presence
of UV B (290 320 nm) wavelengths, humans blue cone cells aren t sensitive enough or able to absorb
enough of the light to signal a response to their brain. Whereas the Mantis Shrimp has various photo
receptors that are sensitive to these

Scopes Trial Of 1925 Essay
The Scopes Trial of 1925 was one of the quandary case ever witnessed by the American government
and public. It was a conflict between science and theology, faith and reason. Lasting eight days this
was one of the first media extensive coverage of that time resulted in thousands of print, interviews,
and commentary sent from Dayton which helped to shape the public perception of what occurred in
the nation. In addition, the trial was a maze run itself where many thought that it was challenging the
constitutionality of the bill, to publicly advocate for the legitimacy of Darwin s theory of evolution,
many other thought it was a publicity stunt for the town of Dayton, Tennessee. In simple words, it was

Internet Crimes And The Internet
Introduction
The purpose of this research is to discuss about cybercrimes also known as internet crimes. The
researcher has taken help from a number of online sources and a few books as well. Firstly, the
researcher will discuss about cybercrime, how and when it came in existence. The researcher then will
categorize cybercrimes into 2 parts, cyber abuse and cyber attacks. This in turn has a few subtopics to
follow. And lastly, the researcher will discuss prevention from these kind of attacks.
Technology has been increasing so rapidly in the past fifteen years that it has increased the use of
computers in our daily lives and in the business sector. To keep pace with the rapid increase in
technology, industries such as banking, health, education etc. are very dependent on Internet for all its
activities.
However, what is Internet? Internet is the largest wide area network (WAN) that connects millions of
computers worldwide and it is easily accessible at any corner of the world.
Since the evolution of the Internet almost 20 years back, it has gradually changed and in turn changed
our lives as well and has left a great impact on our lives.
In the earlier times, Internet was only used to search for information but now it not only contains a
library of information but has also become a means of interacting and communicating with one
another and to be able to get new ideas. In simple words, it has become a necessity in our daily lives.
We are very much dependent on Internet for

College Assistance Migrant Program Case Study
SUMMARY
St. Edward s University proposes to provide access to, retention in and completion of college for 22
business education majors through our College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). CAMP supports
students who are migrant or seasonal farmworkers or children of such workers, enroll in their first
year of undergraduate studies by providing financial and university support services.
Services include supplemental financial assistance for books, supplies, housing, transportation, health
insurance and a portion of tuition, counseling, academic assistance, and other university resources. St.
Edward s CAMP has demonstrated the increase of under represented Hispanic graduates with our
average six year graduation rate at 60% for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the significant amount of impoverished individuals, most farmworkers do not receive any
governmental aid. In 2011 2012, only 15% of farmworkers received food stamps, 16% received WIC
(a supplemental nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children) and 34% received Medicaid.
Additionally, they do not receive commonplace benefits like sick leave, paid vacation or health
insurance because many agricultural employers are exempt from unemployment taxes and numerous
farmworkers are not eligible for unemployment benefits even though they perform jobs that are
seasonal and intermittent.
Migrant or seasonal farm workers are U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, illegal immigrants or
seasonal laborers on special guest worker visas (H 2A workers). Migrant workers mean that they have
traveled at least 75 miles during a 12 month period to obtain a farm job. Seasonal workers mean that a
large majority does not work year round even if they work for more than one farm in a single year. On
average, 84% of seasonal farmworkers work over 60 days a year; 77% work over 90 days; and only
60% work over 180 days. Migrant children, defined as those who relocate because of involvement
with agriculture related industries or other seasonal work.
In general, migrant or seasonal farm workers have limited education and literacy skills. According

Argumentative Essay On Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery has become a worldwide epidemic in today s world. The number of plastic surgeries
continues to increase since 2010. In today s day and age, plastic surgery is one of the most popular and
requested procedures. Females are opting to have plastic surgery because they dislike their body
image. Society has impacted many people by brain washing them to believe that a person s body has
to be perfect. In order for one to be considered beautiful, television and media influence people s
perceptions of beauty.
The definition of plastic surgery can be resumed as the process of rearing parts of the body. This
process is typically recognized by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for
cosmetic reasons. When idealizing plastic surgery, majority of the people think of it only as a change
of personal appearance. For example, breast augmentation or liposuction. Plastic surgery aides people
who have gotten burned, by replacing the burned skin with other tissue from another part of the body.
Usually, plastic surgery can be associated with individuals that tend to be self conscious or have low
self esteem. Acquiring cosmetic surgeries can significantly boost a person s confidence and self image.
Normally, beautifying procedures are seen to improve psychological damage. Plastic surgery can be
beneficial for mental health. Although this may be true, plastic surgery has become an addiction. The
perception of beauty should not be held at the hands of surgery.
The motives behind surgery can vary; it can go from the removal of birthmarks and unattractive
looking scars, to the riddance of breasts deformities. Recently, a study showed, how Reconstructive
breast augmentation is generally performed to correct asymmetry caused by congenital errors, trauma
or disease, Poland s Syndrome and tuberous breast deformity (Singh, 58). Normally, woman with
breast deformities, such as, large breasts or cysts, deal with many problems like pain in the back,
shoulders, and loin. In this types of situations, breast reduction helps reduce the pain while helping
them fix their posture, and allowing them to live a normal, fulfilling life.
Furthermore, another research shows that one of the of

Harold Urey Essay
Harold Urey Contributions Harold C. Urey is known extensively in numerous fields, some of which
include chemistry, biology, and astronomy. His accomplishments number in the hundreds, the most
notably of which would certainly be his discovery of deuterium, a heavy hydrogen isotope with one
proton and one neutron in its nucleus. Although the theory of isotopes was already in place by 1913,
and numerous other scientists had discovered various isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, and numerous
others, Urey claimed that only discoveries surrounding hydrogen could be more significant (Rice,
2007). Urey had a systematic chart of countless isotopes, including both known and predicted
isotopes, and used this in his research. This system included two isotopes of hydrogen, one with
double the atomic mass of a standard hydrogen atom, and the other with three times the mass. Both of
these isotopes were undiscovered, having only been predicted. Urey became interested in the supposed
isotopes of hydrogen after finding out about a letter sent from a pair of physicists to the July 1, 1931
issue of a scientific journal called the Physical Review. This letter discussed evidence ... Show more

became impossibly complex and inefficient. Urey s barrier was not chosen for the diffusion plant built

of the project, Urey soon has second thoughts and tried in vain to convince President Harry S. Truman
not to use the atomic weapons on Japan. After the war, Urey appealed more to the civilian control of
nuclear weapons, proposing an international ban on the utilization and stockpiling of nuclear

Essay on Finding Meaning in For Color Girls
...And this is for colored girls who have considered suicide but are moving to the end of their own

by Ntozake Shange in 1977. It was then called for colored girls who have considered suicide when the
rainbow was enuf . Tyler Perry adapted and transformed it into a movie in 2010. For colored girls is
centered on nine women as they encounter their fair share of neglect, abuse, pain and harassment both
physically and emotionally. They slowly but surely recover from such abuse and discover joy in
themselves. The movie begins with the characters as strangers but at the end, they become good
friends. I watched this movie because it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one first watches the movie, one may quickly judge that the characters are in direct contrast to
the colors they represent. In the movie, Tangie (orange) which means vitality with endurance plays the
part of a promiscuous girl whose hatred for her mother drives her to do what she does. On further look
at her character, I realize she is a true reflection of the color orange. She endures sexual abuse from
her grandfather and faces abortion at a tender age but is still strong enough to overcome it and bring
out her true beauty. The text also employ poems and songs to show the intensity of pain and
emphasize the strength of each character and women in general. Characterization is how the characters
in the text are viewed and developed as the text expands. For this, I will consider the character, Nyla
(purple). Nyla is an innocent girl with dull eyes and voice. Her innocence is revealed as tells of her
first time sex encounter and also in her lack of understanding of her mum and sister s relationship. Her
confession of sex to an older man is like that of a young misled child. She is ignorant of the world and
its dangers. She just completed high school and is very excited, happy to lose her virginity to
childhood sweetheart. Reality drowns on her when she finds out she is pregnant and needed to abort.

The Idea Of A National Health Insurance System Essay
The idea of a national health insurance system can be traced back to President Teddy Roosevelt s
presidency in 1912 (A Brief History of Medicare in America). While he was campaigning to become
president his platform included health care reform, more specifically health care insurance (A Brief
History of Medicare in America). His idea never truly took off, but it remained on the agendas for the
presidents that would come after him. When President Truman s presidency took place, he proposed
the creation of a national health insurance fund that would be available to all Americans (A Brief
History of Medicare in America). He wanted this to be a program where individuals could receive
health coverage that would pay for a various amount of health services. Truman s efforts to push for
this healthcare reform was unsuccessful. The bill for this health coverage did not pass. President John
F. Kennedy s efforts for the creation of a health care program for seniors was just as unsuccessful as
Truman s attempt at individual health care coverage. It wasn t until President Lyndon B. Johnson s
presidency in 1965 that Medicare became law (A Brief History of Medicare in America). Medicare is
the largest health program in the country. This program is government operated and provides health
care coverage for over fifty five million Americans that are over the age of 65 (A Brief History of
Medicare in America). It also provides coverage to over eight million Americans with disabilities

Paget s Disease Of Bone
Paget s disease of bone (PDB), also known as osteitis deformans, is named after Sir James Paget, an
English surgeon, who first described the disease in 1877. Since then, research has determined that
15% to 40% of cases are inherited and the balance is thought to be caused by exposure to a slow
viruses like human respiratory syncytial virus or canine distemper virus, however, symptoms may not
appear for many years afterward. In about half of cases that are hereditary, a mutated gene has been
isolated that is known to cause osteoclasts to become rogue and un regulated. PDB causes long bones
to grow unnaturally long causing pain and osteoarthritis, hearing loss and nervous systems disorders

Then, characteristic x ray signatures and elevated total alkaline phos phatase (ALP) levels confirm the
disease and bone scans and individual bone x rays determine the extent of damaged areas. However,
total ALP levels remain within reference levels as long as the disease is monostotic, that is, involving
a single bone. Total ALP is not a marker until remodeling has gone far astray in several bones that are
grossly misshapen. And, because it is widely recognized that prevalence and severity of PDB is
decreasing in the world population, total ALP levels remain within reference ranges far longer, making
anecdotal discovery rare. Although there is no cure for PDB, early detection is vital for
commencement of diet, exercise, and drug regimens that significantly mitigate debilitating symptoms
and disease progression. Per Magnusson, Michael Davie and Christopher Sharp compared total ALP
and three isoforms of ALP (B/I, B1, B2) of 37 patients with various stages of PDB and a control group
of 66 healthy patients. Their findings revealed that the B2 isoform of ALP is increased in
asymptomatic PDB patients with a validity of 80% on a characteristic comparison curve of true
postive to false positive ratios. High bone B2 isoform ALP levels may be of use in early discovery,
however, only total ALP levels are routinely

Examples Of Identity In The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead and The American Identity
AMC s The Walking Dead is a popular show on tv for the past 8 seasons. It is all about an apocalypse
coming into the world and infecting almost everyone. The goal is to stay alive, which, in order to do
that you have to make allies and groups. You have to trust in a better life, by trusting everyone else.
Some obstacles may occur, but that is only apart of the journey.
The episode I picked is season 3, episode 1. After months of searching for a safe area, food, water,

I believe people come to America because they want freedom. They want a better life, they want to
live happily and not in fear of what would be going on back home. I think this ties in with The
Walking Dead great because they all want a better life. They know things won t change in their world,
but they have to make it the best they can. So by doing that, they make a new family, a new group they
trust. They gain trust with a group, so they can all feel more safe when they are out scavenging, or
finding a new shelter, the only people they have is each other. An example is the scene where they are
sitting around the fire together. They know the world is going to an end, but they are still fighting, still
determined to make this easier for their family, but in this scene, they forget what s happening outside
the gates. They focus on each other, because they are feeling safe. They also keep fighting because
they can do anything when they re in trouble, they don t give up. Just like when people come to
America. America is known for safety, freedom, and the possibility to do

Its primary Christian theme revolves around the concept that Christ died upon the cross to pay for the
sins of all humanity (Albl 363). The Christian doctrine of atonement is an attempt to understand the
earliest teaching of the Church that Christ died for our sins (1 Cor 15:3). God came to us in human
form (Incarnation) through Jesus Christ and made it possible for us to attain the Kingdom of heaven
through his sacrifice. He died for us in accordance to the scriptures and prophecy. During the last
supper he symbolized this sacrifice by saying This is my body which is given for you (Luke 22:19).
The Lamb of God truly took away the sins of the world. Jesus accomplished the substitution of the
Suffering Servant by making himself an offering for sin (Albl, 306). Logically speaking, God does not
owe a debt to himself, it is humans who must repay this perceived debt. Jesus himself claimed to have
existed in heaven even before the creation of the universe (John 6:62, 8:58, 17:5, 24). God
materialized in human form through the Immaculate Conception, in order for us to have an avenue to
repay this assumed debt and for us attain the kingdom of heaven. Atonement is the human drive to
atone and offer recompense which can be manipulated. (Albl, 308). Only Christ s sinless and divine
life was representative of a worthy sacrifice to atone for all the sins of the world. No

On a late spring morning, within the bamboo forest there s a lake with crystal clear water. Today I

thoughts until a high pitched squeaky voice startled me, Are you a hybrid of polar bear and a black

the owner of the squeaky voice. Upon closer look I recognize the ugly creature as a petite mandarin

Panda, are you a hybrid of polar bear and a black bear? No, I m not. I responded with a monotone
voice. The duckling keeps staring at me for what seems like eternity. The silence combine with the
staring is too much for me to handle, so I walk away from it.
Few seconds later... SNAP! I stop walking, I slowly turn around and I almost jumped when I discover
that the duckling was following me along. I kindly asked the duckling Can you please stop following
me? I turn around and continue walking but the duckling is still behind my trail. This time I walk the
opposite direction, I m heading towards the lake, I peek around behind and the duckling is still tailing
me like I m some sort of celebrity.

Trajan In Dacia Research Paper
The elaborate triumph following Trajan s conquering of Dacia took place over the course of two days.
In the early morning, the procession started with musicians leading the way through the porta
triumphalis, located at the porta carmentalis (Coarelli), singing ballads of Trajan s victory. This
excited the crowd and readied them for the procession, as well these ballads played a role in
commemorating this triumph for years to come.
After the musicians, the procession continued with the display of the captured Dacian treasure. This
procession included wagons of gold and silver taken from Decebalus s treasure, hidden in the river
Sargetia. As well, there were wagons and platforms carrying other trophies found in Dacia, like the

In their tattered uniforms, they were a pathetic looking crowd. Trajan did ensure although that these
captives continue through the procession unchained. Trajan wanted them to be unchained to show that
their defeat to him was so consuming, that they did not need chains on to stop them from attempting to
escape, just the thought of Trajan scared them into obeying.
As the army walked to the forum, the generals of the Dacian army, were brought forward and executed
in front of the crowd. These generals were chased down by the jackals, brought from Dacia, which
brought the Roman citizens immense satisfaction.
After the army passed, the Dacian elite and family of the ruler, Decebalus, shuffled by. There were
forced out of their regal wear into clothes fit for slaves. This was done to show the complete lack of
power left to the Dacian Citizens. To further the dehumanization of the Dacians, the personal robes of
Decebalus were carried on a platform behind his family, along with his severed head decked with a
diadem. This was put in the triumph to mock the cowardice and memory of Decebalus.
Following the captives came trumpeters and oxen heavily ordained in jewels and garland like no
sacrifice had ever been before. In addition to the oxen, there was a beautiful lynx taken from Dacia

Restaurant Business Report
Business report Executive summary As the world gets intricate and complex courtesy of new trends
and social waves, no sector of life seems to be left behind. The hospitality industry is faced with one
of the greatest challenges ever and all attention and focus is certainly geared toward addressing
customer satisfaction. However, without efficient information systems and proper technological
applications, the whole efforts are always insufficient or wasted. The need to upgrade systems and
improve operations is the main strategic objective of most restaurant executives. This report is
therefore an analysis of the need to apply the modern information systems in the industry and embrace
the growing usage of the point of sale system (POS) that has become the industry norm across the
world. In a way, most hoteliers and restaurant owners are confronted with unrelenting demand to
radically transform operations or to exit the market. To avoid the latter, implementation is inevitable.
Introduction In an increasingly competitive global environment, where the search for opportunities
dominates all other undertakings, where resources are less than those who seek them, it becomes
important to find ways and means of sailing through. Businesses across the world are increasingly
responding to these challenges by applying information systems to enhance performance and

How Did Martin Luther King Jr And The American Dream
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Civil War was definitely not America s finest hour. From other places
in the world, we might have looked foolish, fighting against each other. In our perspective, it was not
foolish. We fought brother against brother, friend against friend, Father against son. War was the only
topic on our minds. But for what? The right to keep our laziness, against the right of freedom, already
established years and years ago? Thousands upon thousands of lives lost, because we were too good to
do our own housework? We fought as a union for the millions of lives lost before us, who were
captured, put in chains, and forced to be treated like animals. Racism was wild among the states, even
after the most awful war in American history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King s story is one that America will never forget. His speeches were powerful. Enough so that he
moved a whole country. Forget mountains, this man was so amazing that he was able to move millions
of people s hearts. That is an incredible feat, and one that will go down in history as the day America
realized that all men ARE created equal. He united thousands upon thousands of people by showing
that he wasn t going to give up his freedom. He taught them peace and how to work together to
accomplish great things. We all have a role of living out the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,
whether in our home, school, or community. As Dr. King once said, Love is the only force capable of
transforming an enemy into friend. (wikipedia.com) Dr. King knew that if we only showed kindness
and love to everyone, there will be no hate and injustice. We may not know it, but we can play a big
part in fulfilling his dream. If you look around today, you can see that racism is not completely dead.
Although it has sufficiently died down, I don t think racism will be completely gone for a long time
and I am sure many others do too. But we can do our part, by simply not judging others on how they
look, their wealth, or their heritage, but by who they really are on the inside. Dr. King also taught that
we should not be putting people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their
heritage. We should not be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will
say. No one has the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their
actions. And if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? Sadly, Dr. King has not
lived to see his dream become reality. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
He was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39, by James Earl Ray.
Dr. King was on his way to dinner when a bullet struck him in the cheek. Instantly,

The Greenhouse Effect On Earth
When you hear about global warming many things come to mind. The greenhouse effect, pollution,
carbon dioxide and of course, the earths temperatures rising. When people hear of the greenhouse
effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the energy reflected
back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest is shared between
the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the atmosphere but is
trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes earth a liveable planet. Without these
greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees instead of a nice
liveable 15 degrees Celsius.
So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible.
However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it needs.
When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat becomes
trapped causing earths temperature to rise.
The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths
temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish
chemist named Svante Arrhenius. He predicted that with the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in
the atmosphere. Between 1880 and 1940 the temperature rose but then dropped between 1940 and
1970. Because of the drop there looked to be no

How Does Act 1 of Antony and Cleopatra Prepare the Reader...
How does Act 1 of Antony and Cleopatra prepare the audience for tragedy?
In this essay i will discuss how act of Antony and Cleopatra prepare the audience for tragedy. Firstly
the character of Antony is one of three who rule Rome after the assassination of Julius Caedar. But
Antony s popularity is shortlived, as Shakespeare s audience discovers when Act I opens in
Alexandria, Egypt, where Antony languishes under the spell of Cleopatra s incomparable beauty and
charm. She spends her every wile and witchery on binding his heart to hers and the world and Rome
be damned.Cleaopatra is the queen of Eqypt. The first three scenes of Act One all take place in Queen

Cleopatra has not yet captured the whole of his soul, and Antony returning back to Rome shows that
there is going to be a big twist in the story which will create a tragedy.
Antony is a seasoned leader a leader with charisma, experience and resolve he enjoys the admiration
of his soldiers and the Roman citizens, as we find out from the conversation between Lepidus and
Caesar the other two leaders of Rome. They show the reader how Antony was before he met Cleopatra
Thou didst drink the stale of horses and the gilded puddle this suggests that Antony used to drink
horses urine and filthy water to keep him going in his battle which shows his dedication to the country.
However, as Caesar suggests that Antony has changed This is the news: he fishes, drinks, and wastes
the lamp of night in revel which suggests that Antony is corrupt and he wastes his nights wheras he
should be supporting his country and being more responsible. This might prepare the audience for
tragedy as Antony s behaviour may cause conflict between Caesar and Antony as Caesar praises
Antony for how he used to be and makes him angry seeing Antony being irresponsible now and as
readers it makes us think that the attitude of Caesar towards Antony may cause conflict in the
upcoming or rather there could be conflict between Antony and Caesar involving Cleopatra.
To conclude there are many event in Act 1 which prepares the reader for a tragedy but it cannot be
made clear as to what the tragedy may be.

A Visit From The Goonsquad
In recent years, Pulitzer Prize winning fiction novels clearly differ in theme and style. The 2011
winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused on
the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction novel on
North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and deal with
diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize winning novels,
secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the sensation of hope onto
them. This occurs in Egan s novel, as Lulu comes to represent the promise of a new generation. The
same phenomenon occurs with Sun Moon in The Orphan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed,
smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds
positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing femininity.
Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course, other children
are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high school clan but Lulu is
the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth. Even Kitty, a symbol of
youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery lines and being ragged (193).
It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s deification. As an adult, Lulu s
deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair,
making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices a white cloud forming around Lulu s face,
an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in religious iconography. Not only does Lulu
become other worldly in her physical attributes, but in her actions. During the final chapter of the
novel, Alex and Bennie attempt to force Scotty to play music. They are physical unable to contain

The Northern Hemisphere
Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death
In 1816, sections of the northern hemisphere experienced a year without a summer. The average
summer temperatures across the northeastern United States, Canadian Maritime Provinces and much
of Europe were colder than any other year in the previous 600 years, with the exception of the summer
of 1601. The estimated mean surface temperature anomaly for the northern hemisphere in 1816 is 0.51
K. In Europe, temperatures averaged 1 2 C cooler than was typical of the surrounding years, and there
was also an increase in precipitation. The most common explanation for this climate anomaly is that it
was caused by the 1815 eruption in Indonesia of Tambora, the largest known eruption in history. The
summer of 1816 also occurred during a period of reduced solar activity, known as the Dalton
Minimum, which may have contributed as well.

A Democratic Government
The strongest democracies flourish from frequent and lively debate, but they endure when people of
every background and belief find a way to set aside smaller differences in service of a greater purpose
(Obama, 2009). Fellow survivors, I ask you to imagine a year from now and envisage the society you
want to be a part of.
It has been three weeks since the disaster. Fear and confusion are rampant within the fragments of our
society, productivity is at an all time low and our community lacks structure. We now must decide on
a political system to lead us and give our society hope and direction. A deliberative democracy will
provide us with the greatest opportunity for a successful future.
Before we can wholeheartedly submit to a democratic government, it is important for us to first
recognise and consider the central complications, which have arisen from this crisis. Our first priority
is to help all those who are traumatised and so are unable to think rationally. Without intervention, the
otherwise inevitable repercussions, which follow from a traumatic incident, will no doubt lead to cases
of suicide, self harm and substance abuse. The forthcoming shortage of vital resources within our
community centre, and the wasting of such resources by those who are acting irrationally, is another
issue of equal importance with which we are going to need to provide guidance if we can hope to live
within a sustainable society.
At the moment we are divided, alienated and wasting

The Damning Prophecies in Oedipus, Antigone, and Agamemnon
Oracles, seers, and prophets are used in Greek tragedy to provide foreshadowing for the audience and

confer forecasts to principal characters that affect the characters future. Although not always believed,
and often endeavored to be foiled, seers, oracles, and prophets in Greek tragedies foretell events that

The Oracle at Delphi in Oedipus predicts the downfall and destruction of Oedipus, despite Oedipus
avoidance of the prophecy. Oedipus recalls the Oracle as stating: that I [Oedipus] was fated to defile
my mother s bed, that I should show unto men a brood which they could not endure to behold, and
that I should be the slayer of the sire who begot me. When Oedipus learns of the calamitous oracle his
immediate intentions are to thwart it. He leaves Polybus of Corinth, whom Oedipus believes to be his
father, and travels to Thebes to avoid fulfilling the ruinous prophecy. When he arrives at Thebes
Oedipus is falsely assured of his intellect when he solves the riddle of the Sphinx and is appointed
king. Oedipus then believes that he has successfully avoided the Oracle.
Oedipus hubris, impulsiveness, and carelessness compel him to murder the man unbeknown by him to
be his father over a traffic dispute, in total disregard of the prophecy. After he arrives in Thebes and
solves the riddle of the Sphinx, Oedipus unbeknownst to him marries his mother. Despite his
attempted evasion of the Oracle by leaving Corinth, the oracle inevitably comes true. Oedipus only

Relationship Between Eros And Thanatos In Macbeth
Freudian theory dictates the complex physiological analysis of the unconscious and conscious mind.
Through analysis of the play Macbeth , it is possible to determine the reasons for the actions
undertaken by as a result of the human id, more specifically the Eros and Thanatos. Macbeth s
uncontrolled ambition eventually leads to his downfall and is primarily a result of greed. However,
greed is in favour of the death instinct. In order to have a complete understanding of Eros and
Thanatos, one must have a complete review of psychoanalysis and the human id. An analysis of the
themes and characters of the play will prove that Macbeth undertakes his actions due to both sides of
the human id but is also subconsciously influenced by other aspects such as lady Macbeth.
The human id is a physiological idea conceived by revolutionary Sigmund Freud. His 1920 paper

it could destroy him clearly shows that Macbeth has a considerable amount of energy created by the
death drive at the subconscious level. In his 1920 essay, Freud states, the goal of all life is death and
that what negates this is the drive towards life. (Freud.7) Relating back to Macbeth, it is argued that

As was mentioned in the previous topic of crumple zones inertia plays a great part in car crashes.
When a car comes to an abrupt stop the driver continues to move in the car s direction, this is because
of inertia the resistance to a change in speed or direction of travel. Newton s first law states an object
at rest will stay at rest also unless acted upon by an external force conversely an object that is moving
will keep moving in the same direction and speed unless acted upon by a external force the external

The seventh grade probability carnival was one of the highlights of my fall term. Throughout the

Since my game cost only one ticket to play, and the lowest possible amount of tickets that you could

winners in each category of my game was not very spread out, neither were the experimental
probabilities. In total, the experimental probabilities of winning two, three, five and nine tickets were

Evidence Based Practice Examples
In order for Evidenced based practice (EBP) to be successfully adopted and maintained, nurses and
other healthcare professionals realize that it has to be adopted by individual providers, microsystems
and system leaders, as well as policy makers. Federal, state, local, and other regulatory bodies are
necessary for EBP adoption. An example of this is the mark of excellence in nursing used by the
Magnet Recognition Program (Stevens, 2013). The development of evidenced based practice is fueled
by the increasing public and professional demand for accountability in safety and quality improvement
in healthcare (Stevens, 2013). An example of federal program that has emerged because of EBP is
Congress funding the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) with the following
mission: The PCORI helps people make informed healthcare decisions, and improves healthcare

Catherine s Development In Northanger Abbey
The novel Northanger Abbey was one of the first novels ever written by Jane Austen. The coming of
age story centers on Catherine Morland, as she accompanies her family friends to Bath, England. As
the novel unfolds we watch Catherine transform from a young naïve women to a mature adult. Austen
alludes to the lessons Catherine must experience for herself in order to reach maturity: She never
could learn or understand anything before she was taught (Austen 3). Austen utilizes Catharine s
maturation to a young woman to develop her theme of education and experience. Austen stresses two
elements of Catherine s Development her friendships and the gothic novel to indicate that experience
is the source knowledge.
The reader is first introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She imagines Northanger Abbey to be full of the horrors she has read about in her Gothic novels. Her
imagination gets the best of her and she believes that General Tilney had murdered his wife. After
exploring the Abbey, Catherine finds it to be an ordinary family home: The Abbey in itself was no
more to her now than any other house (Austen 198). She realizes that she has been gravely mistaken
and is ashamed about her feelings: Astonishment and doubt first seized them; and a shortly succeeding
ray of common sense added some bitter emotions of shame (169). She recognizes that her gothic
novels are not reality (Mathison 142). Catherine s disillusionment of Northanger Abbey is a pivotal
moment for her ascent into

The Cask Of Amontillado, By Edgar Allen Poe And Young...
Literature about Evil
The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the short stories The Cask of
Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe and Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Specifically it
will discuss the phenomenon of evil in the human heart as it appears in these two works. Evil lives in
everyone, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. These two chilling tales show two different
sides of evil, but they both illustrate how evil can corrupt a person right down to their very heart and
soul.
The narrator, Montresor, in The Cask of Amontillado is so evil in his heart that he must gain revenge
over his adversary at all costs. His family motto is Nemo me impune lacessit [No one assails me with
impunity], and he feels his friend Fortunato has somehow insulted this honor, and so he seeks the
ultimate revenge. He walls his friend up inside a cellar and leaves him there to die. Clearly, the
narrator is insane, and that is a commonality between these two stories. Both the protagonists are
insane or mad, for whatever reason. Goodman Brown goes mad in the forest when he believes he has
encountered the devil, and the reader never knows what sets Montresor off, except it is some kind of
insult. The authors are very skillful in making both these men quite unsympathetic characters, and that
heightens the sense of evil surrounding them both.
Montresor may seem to be the more evil in nature, but Goodman Brown has his own issues of evil to

The Education Reform Movement
Education Reform Movement
Ever since I was a young girl, I dreamed of having a career that helped people. Growing up I had two
younger siblings and I would help my mother take care of them as much as I could. I really enjoyed it
and decided I wanted to become a nurse that worked with infants. I told my mother about my dream, I
was nine years old at the time and she just gave me a heartbroken look and said, That may never be
able to come true because that job requires schooling and any type of education is far out of our family
s budget. I was upset to be informed that. That night I heard my mother and father saying that they
believe at least grade school should be open to the public. The next day me and my family went on a
stroll through the town, we stopped off at a local store. While we were in ... Show more content on

He wanted each school year to last 6 months and wanted the lessons to be filled with excellent
curriculum. His idea was to make school free to all of the public and to do that he came up with the
idea that people will pay taxes to pay for the school. He also wanted to help the teachers out by
creating special schools for them to be trained at and increase their salary. My mother looked at me
with joy and we both had some hope for my future now. If Mann s reform movement works, then
children will be able to be more successful in life. Mann traveled to different schools to study how
they worked and seen where the schools needed improvement. He wrote many reports and took them
to show the Board of Education. The only problem with Mann s plan was they didn t know if people
would want to pay taxes to keep the schools running. So they had citizens vote on paying taxes and a
majority voted yes they would pay taxes to support public

  • 2. Hypothesis Synthesis Essay In order for alien eyes to see what humans can t see the structure and the amount of their photoreceptor cells, have to differ. Humans have three cone cells that are extremely sensitive to Red, (620 700nm), Green (490 570nm) and Blue (450 495nm) wavelengths of light. Although these three cones are most sensitive to these wavelengths, they are still sensitive to the remaining wavelengths of visible light between 400 700nm. When a light with a wavelength of 600nm is transmitted through the retina, the Red and Green cones capture, sense and signal the brain that orange light is observed. In this case the Red and Green cones absorb light but the Green cones are less sensitive. Also, the Blue cones don t absorb much light and are not sensitive ... However, if they were put in a similar situation where 600nm of light were to be observed, then their yellow cones would signal an observation to their brain different than that of humans. In this wavelength (600nm) only the yellow cone cells are activated and absorb light, therefore domestic dogs would observe yellow light and humans would observe orange light. If an Infrared Light with a wavelength of 750 nm were to be observed by humans, they would not be able to because none of their cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light, in a similar manner that the blue cone cells weren t sensitive to the 600 nm wavelength of light. It is only possible for the human brain to view lights that are absorbed by their photoreceptor cells. Furthermore, there are aquatic organisms such as the mantis shrimp that has an estimated 12 16 photoreceptor cells. In the presence of the 750 nm wavelength of light that humans cone cells aren t sensitive enough to signal an observation, the mantis shrimps red cone cells are sensitive to this wavelength of light and can absorb the wavelengths to send a response to their brain. In the presence of UV B (290 320 nm) wavelengths, humans blue cone cells aren t sensitive enough or able to absorb enough of the light to signal a response to their brain. Whereas the Mantis Shrimp has various photo receptors that are sensitive to these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Argumentative Essay On Plastic Surgery Plastic Surgery Plastic Surgery has become a worldwide epidemic in today s world. The number of plastic surgeries continues to increase since 2010. In today s day and age, plastic surgery is one of the most popular and requested procedures. Females are opting to have plastic surgery because they dislike their body image. Society has impacted many people by brain washing them to believe that a person s body has to be perfect. In order for one to be considered beautiful, television and media influence people s perceptions of beauty. The definition of plastic surgery can be resumed as the process of rearing parts of the body. This process is typically recognized by the transfer of tissue, either in the treatment of injury or for cosmetic reasons. When idealizing plastic surgery, majority of the people think of it only as a change of personal appearance. For example, breast augmentation or liposuction. Plastic surgery aides people who have gotten burned, by replacing the burned skin with other tissue from another part of the body. Usually, plastic surgery can be associated with individuals that tend to be self conscious or have low self esteem. Acquiring cosmetic surgeries can significantly boost a person s confidence and self image. Normally, beautifying procedures are seen to improve psychological damage. Plastic surgery can be beneficial for mental health. Although this may be true, plastic surgery has become an addiction. The perception of beauty should not be held at the hands of surgery. The motives behind surgery can vary; it can go from the removal of birthmarks and unattractive looking scars, to the riddance of breasts deformities. Recently, a study showed, how Reconstructive breast augmentation is generally performed to correct asymmetry caused by congenital errors, trauma or disease, Poland s Syndrome and tuberous breast deformity (Singh, 58). Normally, woman with breast deformities, such as, large breasts or cysts, deal with many problems like pain in the back, shoulders, and loin. In this types of situations, breast reduction helps reduce the pain while helping them fix their posture, and allowing them to live a normal, fulfilling life. His accomplishments number in the hundreds, the most notably of which would certainly be his discovery of deuterium, a heavy hydrogen isotope with one proton and one neutron in its nucleus. Although the theory of isotopes was already in place by 1913, and numerous other scientists had discovered various isotopes of carbon, nitrogen, and numerous others, Urey claimed that only discoveries surrounding hydrogen could be more significant (Rice, 2007). Urey had a systematic chart of countless isotopes, including both known and predicted isotopes, and used this in his research. This system included two isotopes of hydrogen, one with double the atomic mass of a standard hydrogen atom, and the other with three times the mass. Both of these isotopes were undiscovered, having only been predicted. Urey became interested in the supposed isotopes of hydrogen after finding out about a letter sent from a pair of physicists to the July 1, 1931 issue of a scientific journal called the Physical Review. On further look at her character, I realize she is a true reflection of the color orange. • 9. The Idea Of A National Health Insurance System Essay The idea of a national health insurance system can be traced back to President Teddy Roosevelt s presidency in 1912 (A Brief History of Medicare in America). While he was campaigning to become president his platform included health care reform, more specifically health care insurance (A Brief History of Medicare in America). His idea never truly took off, but it remained on the agendas for the presidents that would come after him. When President Truman s presidency took place, he proposed the creation of a national health insurance fund that would be available to all Americans (A Brief History of Medicare in America). He wanted this to be a program where individuals could receive health coverage that would pay for a various amount of health services. Truman s efforts to push for this healthcare reform was unsuccessful. The bill for this health coverage did not pass. President John F. Kennedy s efforts for the creation of a health care program for seniors was just as unsuccessful as Truman s attempt at individual health care coverage. It wasn t until President Lyndon B. Johnson s presidency in 1965 that Medicare became law (A Brief History of Medicare in America). Medicare is the largest health program in the country. Total ALP is not a marker until remodeling has gone far astray in several bones that are grossly misshapen. Its primary Christian theme revolves around the concept that Christ died upon the cross to pay for the sins of all humanity (Albl 363). The Christian doctrine of atonement is an attempt to understand the earliest teaching of the Church that Christ died for our sins (1 Cor 15:3). God came to us in human form (Incarnation) through Jesus Christ and made it possible for us to attain the Kingdom of heaven through his sacrifice. He died for us in accordance to the scriptures and prophecy. During the last supper he symbolized this sacrifice by saying This is my body which is given for you (Luke 22:19). The Lamb of God truly took away the sins of the world. Jesus accomplished the substitution of the Suffering Servant by making himself an offering for sin (Albl, 306). Logically speaking, God does not owe a debt to himself, it is humans who must repay this perceived debt. Jesus himself claimed to have existed in heaven even before the creation of the universe (John 6:62, 8:58, 17:5, 24). God materialized in human form through the Immaculate Conception, in order for us to have an avenue to repay this assumed debt and for us attain the kingdom of heaven. From other places in the world, we might have looked foolish, fighting against each other. In our perspective, it was not foolish. We fought brother against brother, friend against friend, Father against son. War was the only topic on our minds. But for what? The right to keep our laziness, against the right of freedom, already established years and years ago? Thousands upon thousands of lives lost, because we were too good to do our own housework? We fought as a union for the millions of lives lost before us, who were captured, put in chains, and forced to be treated like animals. He united thousands upon thousands of people by showing that he wasn t going to give up his freedom. He taught them peace and how to work together to accomplish great things. We all have a role of living out the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whether in our home, school, or community. As Dr. King once said, Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend. (wikipedia.com) Dr. King knew that if we only showed kindness and love to everyone, there will be no hate and injustice. We may not know it, but we can play a big part in fulfilling his dream. If you look around today, you can see that racism is not completely dead. Although it has sufficiently died down, I don t think racism will be completely gone for a long time and I am sure many others do too. But we can do our part, by simply not judging others on how they look, their wealth, or their heritage, but by who they really are on the inside. Dr. King also taught that we should not be putting people in groups, again because of how they look, their wealth, or their heritage. We should not be the one to decide what they will do, where they will go, and what they will say. No one has the power to completely take control over someone s thoughts, their words, or their actions. And if you can t completely control them, what s the point in trying? When people hear of the greenhouse effect do they actually know what it is. The suns UV rays hit the earth and 30% of the energy reflected back into space, 47% gets absorbed by gasses and turns into heat energy. The rest is shared between the water cycle, photosynthesis Some of the heat tries to escape back into the atmosphere but is trapped by the greenhouse gasses. This in turn makes earth a liveable planet. Without these greenhouse gasses the earth would have an average temperature of 18 degrees instead of a nice liveable 15 degrees Celsius. So the greenhouse effect is supposed to be a good thing. It makes life on planet earth possible. However, with the increase of greenhouse gasses the earth is absorbing a lot more heat than it needs. When there are too many greenhouse gasses floating around the atmosphere and excess heat becomes trapped causing earths temperature to rise. The enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming. Simply put, global warming is earths temperatures increasing due to pollution. The first person to predict global warming was a Swedish chemist named Svante Arrhenius. He predicted that with the increasing amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Between 1880 and 1940 the temperature rose but then dropped between 1940 and 1970. But Antony s popularity is shortlived, as Shakespeare s audience discovers when Act I opens in Alexandria, Egypt, where Antony languishes under the spell of Cleopatra s incomparable beauty and charm. Cleopatra has not yet captured the whole of his soul, and Antony returning back to Rome shows that there is going to be a big twist in the story which will create a tragedy. Antony is a seasoned leader a leader with charisma, experience and resolve he enjoys the admiration of his soldiers and the Roman citizens, as we find out from the conversation between Lepidus and Caesar the other two leaders of Rome. They show the reader how Antony was before he met Cleopatra Thou didst drink the stale of horses and the gilded puddle this suggests that Antony used to drink horses urine and filthy water to keep him going in his battle which shows his dedication to the country. However, as Caesar suggests that Antony has changed This is the news: he fishes, drinks, and wastes the lamp of night in revel which suggests that Antony is corrupt and he wastes his nights wheras he should be supporting his country and being more responsible. This might prepare the audience for tragedy as Antony s behaviour may cause conflict between Caesar and Antony as Caesar praises Antony for how he used to be and makes him angry seeing Antony being irresponsible now and as readers it makes us think that the attitude of Caesar towards Antony may cause conflict in the upcoming or rather there could be conflict between Antony and Caesar involving Cleopatra. To conclude there are many event in Act 1 which prepares the reader for a tragedy but it cannot be made clear as to what the tragedy may be. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 2011 winner, Jennifer Egan s A Visit from the Goonsquad, is a multi faceted, complex narrative focused on the music industry. In 2013, Adam Johnson s The Orphan Master s Son, a historical fiction novel on North Korea, took the prize. Though these novels take place in different countries and deal with diverging topics, they do have one thing in common: in each of these Pulitzer Prize winning novels, secondary female characters become deified, allowing the reader to attach the sensation of hope onto them. Dolly describes her daughter as the rod around which the wires were wrapped, regal, and flushed, smelling of perfume or freshly baked brownies. (190) Lulu is associated with diction that holds positive connotations. She holds subtle wisdom for her young age, and all encompassing femininity. Lulu is the antithesis to other characters in the novel whom we see grow up. Of course, other children are characterized throughout Sasha s kids, Lou s children, Bennie and his high school clan but Lulu is the only character we see transition into an adult, without losing her youth. Even Kitty, a symbol of youth and sensuality, is presented in a vulnerable light as having spidery lines and being ragged (193). It seems as if this continuous mention of youth is central to Lulu s deification. As an adult, Lulu s deification is intensified. When Alex meets her, he remarks, The slanted winter sun ignited Lulu s hair, making a nimbus around her face (341). Here, Alex notices a white cloud forming around Lulu s face, an image reminiscent of a Saint s aureole depicted in religious iconography. The average summer temperatures across the northeastern United States, Canadian Maritime Provinces and much of Europe were colder than any other year in the previous 600 years, with the exception of the summer of 1601. The estimated mean surface temperature anomaly for the northern hemisphere in 1816 is 0.51 K. In Europe, temperatures averaged 1 2 C cooler than was typical of the surrounding years, and there was also an increase in precipitation. The most common explanation for this climate anomaly is that it was caused by the 1815 eruption in Indonesia of Tambora, the largest known eruption in history. The summer of 1816 also occurred during a period of reduced solar activity, known as the Dalton Minimum, which may have contributed as well. Fig. 1. A Democratic Government The strongest democracies flourish from frequent and lively debate, but they endure when people of every background and belief find a way to set aside smaller differences in service of a greater purpose (Obama, 2009). Fellow survivors, I ask you to imagine a year from now and envisage the society you want to be a part of. It has been three weeks since the disaster. Fear and confusion are rampant within the fragments of our society, productivity is at an all time low and our community lacks structure. We now must decide on a political system to lead us and give our society hope and direction. A deliberative democracy will provide us with the greatest opportunity for a successful future. Before we can wholeheartedly submit to a democratic government, it is important for us to first recognise and consider the central complications, which have arisen from this crisis. Our first priority is to help all those who are traumatised and so are unable to think rationally. Without intervention, the otherwise inevitable repercussions, which follow from a traumatic incident, will no doubt lead to cases of suicide, self harm and substance abuse. The forthcoming shortage of vital resources within our community centre, and the wasting of such resources by those who are acting irrationally, is another issue of equal importance with which we are going to need to provide guidance if we can hope to live within a sustainable society. Literature about Evil The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the short stories The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe and Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Specifically it will discuss the phenomenon of evil in the human heart as it appears in these two works. Evil lives in everyone, whether they want to acknowledge it or not. These two chilling tales show two different sides of evil, but they both illustrate how evil can corrupt a person right down to their very heart and soul. The narrator, Montresor, in The Cask of Amontillado is so evil in his heart that he must gain revenge over his adversary at all costs. His family motto is Nemo me impune lacessit [No one assails me with impunity], and he feels his friend Fortunato has somehow insulted this honor, and so he seeks the ultimate revenge. He walls his friend up inside a cellar and leaves him there to die. Clearly, the narrator is insane, and that is a commonality between these two stories. Both the protagonists are insane or mad, for whatever reason. Goodman Brown goes mad in the forest when he believes he has encountered the devil, and the reader never knows what sets Montresor off, except it is some kind of insult. The authors are very skillful in making both these men quite unsympathetic characters, and that heightens the sense of evil surrounding them both.
