White Blood Cells Lab Report
In activity three, a total count for white blood cells was conducted using a sample slide with a blood
smear. The slide was observed under microscope with the above data as the result. The normal
percentages for each blood count are as follows (zukur):
Normal Results (Sheep) Our Results
· Neutrophils: 10 to 50% Neutrophils: 46%
· Lymphocytes: 40 to 75% Lymphocytes: 20%
· Monocytes: 0 to 6% Monocytes: 23%
· Eosinophils: 0 to 10% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in lymphocyte can be a cause of some types of cancer such as lymphoma, lymphocytic
leukemia, and other chronic illness.
The monocytes fight certain infections and help other white blood cells remove dead or damaged
tissues, destroy cancer cells, and regulate immunity against foreign substances. An increased number
of monocytes in the blood (monocytosis) occurs in response to chronic infections, in autoimmune
disorders, in blood disorders, and in certain cancers. An increase in the number of macrophages in
parts of the body other than in the blood (such as the lungs, skin, and other organs) can occur in
response to infections, sarcoidosis, and Langerhans cell histiocytosis. (Merckmanuals)
Basophils appear in many specific kinds of inflammatory reactions, particularly those that cause
allergic symptoms. Basophils contain anticoagulant heparin, which prevents blood from clotting too
quickly. They also contain the vasodilator histamine, which promotes blood flow to tissues. An
increase in basophil count can confirm that there is an infection or some type of

Pros And Cons Of Single Transferable Voting System
Every three years the Australian Senate is reelected using the single transferable voting system. In this
system, voters rank the list of candidates by order of preference to fill spots in a multi member district.
Then a quota is set based on the number of votes cast and the number of Senate seats to fill. If any
candidate receives more votes than the quota, they receive a seat. Any surplus votes are then
transferred to second choice candidates to see if they reach the quota, and so on until all Senate seats
are filled. In reality, single transferable voting is not a perfect election system. Because it does not
follow the independence of irrelevant alternatives criteria of Arrow s theorem, there is always a
chance that the system could result

Causes Of The War Of 1812 Essay
The immediate causes of the War of 1812 were a series of economic downs taken by the British and
French against the US as part of the Napoleonic Wars and American outrage at the British practice of
impressment. In response to the 1806 British Orders in Council, which crippled American trade. In
1812, with President Madison in office, Congress declared war against the British. There were many
causes of the war including British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy s impressment of
American seamen and America s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered from many
costly defeats from the hands of the British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of
the War of 1812. Some of which were the capture and burning of the nation s capital, Washington,
D.C., in August 1814. Many in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Britain moved for an agreement after the failure of the assault on Baltimore. During the negotiations,
the United States gave up its demands to end impressment, while Britain promised to leave Canada s
borders unchanged and abandon efforts to create an Indian state in the Northwest. Once the Treaty of
Ghent was signed British forces were unaware that peach had been finalized and British forces
planned a major attack on New Orleans. They were then met with defeat at the hands of future U.S.
president Andrew Jackson s army. News of the battle boosted the morale of the United States and left
Americans with a taste of victory. Some people remember the war as a relatively minor conflict in the
United States and Britain. It seems a lot larger for Canadians and for Native Americans, they see it as
a decisive turning point in their losing struggle to govern themselves. Most importantly, the war s
outcome boosted national self confidence and encouraged the growing spirit of American
expansionism that would shape the better part of the 19th

Genetic Counseling Personal Statement
The perfect combination of research, personal connection, and health care. Genetic Counseling is the
practice of informing and advising patients who may have a potential risk of genetic disorders
concerning appropriate testing methods, medical treatment, and many other critical decisions
concerning their health. I have chosen to pursue the career of genetic counseling because it fulfills the
dream I have had that I will one day be able to do research concerning genetics and interact with the
patients that the research would affect. My decision to become a genetic counselor has been
influenced by many factors; including my high school biology class, which played a part in

Some counselors choose to focus their work on the regular practice of comforting and guiding families
through the often traumatic process of discovering their genetic predisposition to a multitude of
diseases. Other counselors can choose to gear their focus on the side of research. This type of
counselor usually catalogs family medical history and information about pregnancy. The noting of this
vital information becomes necessary as it leads to an increase in the study and understating of how
patients will someday be able to carry out a normal life while simultaneously living with a genetic
disease. ( Who Are Genetic Counselors? nsgc.org ) These are only a few examples amongst many
others that give way to the wide variety of unique attributes I will be able to provide as a genetic

Permanent Life Insurance Essay
How to Choose Permanent Life Insurance
Which Life Insurance Plan is Better For My Family:
You may require one or more types of life insurance to meet your financial needs and goals. Two
major categories of life insurance are term and permanent. Permanent life insurance has options
including whole life, variable life, universal life, and single premium life.
Term life
Term life insurance provides a fixed amount of coverage, at a fixed premium, over a specific period of
time or term (10, 15, 20 or 30 years). Because its premiums are generally lower, term life insurance is
often the choice made by young families. If you die before the end of the term, your beneficiaries
receive a lump sum equal to the amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What else should I consider about term life?
Term life only lasts for the term you set or until you stop paying the premium. It accrues no cash value
paid out at the end of the term, if you re still living.
Permanent life
What is permanent life insurance?
Permanent life insurance covers you from date of issue until the day you die, as long as you continue
to pay your premiums. Permanent life can earn cash value as your premiums are invested. This helps
you build wealth while also protecting it. And of course, it transfers and distributes your wealth
efficiently to your heirs.
Why would I need it?
Because it never expires, permanent life can be used as the foundation of your overall life insurance
plan for a variety of life stages and financial needs.
What else should I consider about permanent life?
Permanent life policies tend to have higher premiums than term policies, and may offer less flexibility
than term life for pricing and options.
Types of permanent life insurance :
Whole, universal, variable and single premium are all types of permanent life insurance. Each may be
used for wealth accumulation, protection, distribution and transfer depending on your needs.
Features of a Permanent Life Policy
Basically, this type of life insurance provides lifetime coverage. It is typically comprised of two parts:
a savings, or investment, portion and an insurance portion.Due to the presence of the savings element,
the premiums are quite high.

Minnesota Twin Essay
The Minnesota twin study, Bouchard et al. (1990) was a longitudinal and cross cultural study to check
the effect of heredity and environment on intelligence. This study was conducted on monozygotic and
dizygotic twins separated from each other in infancy and reared apart. Approximately 50 hours of
interviews and testing was done on each twin. For measuring intelligence, the WAIS test and the
Raven test was used. The correlated IQ rates of the monozygotic twins reared apart were then
compared to those that were reared together and dizygotic twins raised together to understand the
result of heredity and environment on intelligence. This was useful as they shared similar genetic
makeup but were exposed to different environmental conditions. Monozygotic ... Show more content

Also the study was cross cultural and included people from all over the world and was relatively large
so the results were more generalisable. One question about the reliability of the study is that the twins
have a common prenatal environment and if this time period is the most vital in deciding how the
childs brain is wired then it is the environment having an effect on them. This explains similar iqs in
fraternal twins as compared to siblings. Also the twins usually spent the first few months together in
the same environment before being separated this may be the reason for similar traits and so it would
be the environment influencing intelligence. Many of the twins in the study spent a few years together
after being reunited before the study was conducted and this too could have influenced the results. The
study relied on media coverage for recruitment of participants. Also most of the twins did not grow up
in relatively uncorrelated environments for example socially disadvantaged and so it could have
influenced results. the study was not able to gain complete concrete evidence.the basis of it is

Relationship Between Britain And The Colonies
Though both are independent nations, the United Kingdom and the United States now share a close
bond, and have even been allies during WWI and WWII in the 20th century. But when the colonies of
the United States were under British rule, the relations between the Colonies and Britain were not so
friendly. The views on government and taxation between the two became radically different and
created a large disagreement between the American Patriots and those loyal to Britain. Cracks began
to form in the relationship between Britain and the Colonies, and the differences between the two
would inevitably result in the American Revolution. Between 1754 and 1763, Britain and French were
involved in the French and Indian War, which was a territorial dispute between Britain and France.
With the help of the British American colonists, Britain was able to maintain and increase its borders
in America, but the funds needed to support the war caused Britain to go into debt ( French and Indian
War/Seven Years War 1754 1763 1). Not willing to tax its own citizens any further, Britain decided to
tax the American colonies more in order to generate revenue. Before the war, American colonists were
paying a fraction of the taxes than those living in Britain, and even after the imposed taxes, the
average American would pay less taxes than the average Englishman ( British Acts on Colonial
America 1).
Even though Americans were paying far less taxes than the British, the sudden enforcement of

Throughout his speech he calls Caesar ambitious repeatedly. Calling Caesar ambitious makes it seem
that Caesar only thought of himself.
Marc Antony s speech was more personal and sarcastic.

Pros And Cons Of Vaccines
Vaccines are biological preparations, produced from living organisms to enhance immunity against
disease(1).
Vaccine preventable diseases cause important health, societal, and economic burdens worldwide.
Morbidity and mortality from vaccine preventable diseases occur primarily in poor countries. It has
been estimated that out of the approximately 162 million disability adjusted life years (DALYs) that
have been lost around the world from vaccine preventable diseases, over 90% occurred in low income
countries(2). Additionally, it was estimated that 87% of the 2.5 million deaths of children under 5
years of age worldwide have occurred in poor areas of the world(2).
Immunization against vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) is no doubt one of the most successful and
cost effective public health interventions in the history of medicine and biomedical research for
preventing death in children 5 years old(3).It is considered the cornerstone of public health programs,
protects those who are healthy, as well as those who are at high risk of exposure to disease or of
transmitting disease to others,(4) Immunization is a proven tool for controlling and eliminating life
threatening infectious diseases(4).
The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined immunization as: the process whereby a person is
made immune or resistant to an infectious disease, typically by the administration of a vaccine. These
vaccines help to stimulate the body s own immune system to protect the person

Creationism vs. Evolutionism in Public Schools
Debate: Creationism vs. Evolution in Schools: 1st Affirmative Constructive Speech
Creationism and Evolutionism by definition are very different topics. Currently, evolutionary
naturalism is the most widely taught view of origins in America. In schools in the modern day, only
evolutionism is taught and condoned. But before the 1920s, only creationism was taught, and
evolution was forbidden. Then, on February 20, 2008, the Florida State Board of Education voted to
revise the public school guidelines to require teachers to teach only Evolutionism. The law was passed
with a very narrow 4 to 3 vote in favor of the law. Our resolution (affirmative side) is to teach both the
theories of evolution and creationism side by side. This would ... Show more content on

An additional chink in the system is that the theory of evolution has many gaps that need to be filled
by something like the theory of creation. While evolution may be the dominating theory in Florida
school boards, it does not provide some answers to several areas that Creationism may actually
answer, such as how the first organism, Earth, or the entire Universe came to be. On the other hand,
Creationism has equally as many holes that can be filled by the Evolutionary Theory such as how all
the species of the earth became what they are now. Creationism and Evolutionism are not that
different. In 1969, when American astronauts first stood on the moon, they read from the bible. Men
of science and technology, reading from the Book of Genesis. This is an example of how an individual
can believe in evolution and other scientific theories and still have faith.
Our plan to resolve these harms is this: the state of Florida should teach Creationism and Evolution
side by side. Each theory would be taught sequentially and would have its own chapter of discussion.
Teaching both, side by side, in the same class would provide a fair and equal opportunity of religion,
education and choice. It would give the youth an opportunity to learn and expand their

Management of Human Service Programs
Management of human service programs 1.Develop at least one process evaluation measure and at
least on outcome evaluation measure that you suggest for the Consultation and Education (C E)
Department at Greenby Community Mental Health Center (Greenby) to display the program s
effetiveness and efficiency. The department is facing the problem of losing funds for their operation.
Accessing the needs for the human service programs is significant in evaluating the success of the
program. It involves determining the problems to be addressed by the program thereby identifying the
ability of the programmers in meeting the needs. The programmers can only consider the program as
effective just after determining the compatibility of the program to the community problems.
Accessing the needs will help the programmers in analyzing and diagnosing any social needs that
relate to the program. The programmers would have to state the actual problem, analyze the scope of
the problem and define the nature of the community needs with the proper target intervention. The
steps followed in needs assessment include the following: performing gap analysis, prioritizing the
activities according to their importance, identification of the causes of opportunities and performance
and the ultimate identification of solution and growth opportunities (Unrau et al, 2007). Determining
the role of the outcome in the evaluation will help in identifying the effectiveness and the efficiency of
the program in the

Hobbes Social Contract Essay
The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political
philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas
Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was
how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712
1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state
produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other
words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted.
Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper
will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more
feasible hypothesis.
In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters;
no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man,
solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as
they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly threatened since
we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that incline men to peace
are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to

Thank You For Being Expandable Essay
Do you think it s right for people who have PTSD to not be treated immediately? I think especially for
veterans, yes because making them wait hours and hours or even weeks and weeks just to see the
doctor is just too much. More should be done to improve current treatment for sufferers of PTSD. We
should be grateful for what the veterans have done for us. It s sad that veterans can t just walk into a
hospital and get treated.
To start off if a veteran calls the V.A. it s because that person is in bad condition. So therefore, when
they call to make an appointment or to come in to see the doctor they should get treated quickly. In the
story Thank You for Being Expandable a man had returned for the Iraq war and he started to have
thoughts of killing himself and so he tried to call the V.A. to get him some help. But all they did was
put him on hold. So he said, In my experience, the wait for an appointment was typically eight to ten
weeks, but sometimes as long as three to four months. Either way he tried he couldn t win because
whether he came in person or not he still had to wait a long time. But he also had to make sure that
when he did get to talk to the doctor he was really precise with what he said. So if for example the
doctor asked him how much pain he was in on a scale of 1 10 he would have to say at least a 10, so

The Current Practices Of The Textbook Industry Drive Up...
Textbooks are getting more expensive as the years go by, publishers add extra materials to raise prices,
and new editions are published frequently, often with little to no real content change. These problems
are even worse today, as the cost of books keeps rising to the point where some students will decline
to take a class due to the cost of the material. A 2004 study by the California Student Public Interest
Research Group (CALPIRG) along with the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group
(OSPIRG), called Ripoff 101: How the current practices of the textbook industry drive up the cost of
college textbooks, confirmed this problem. A survey polling the most widely assigned textbooks at 10
public universities in California and Oregon, and interviews were done with 156 faculty members and
521 students on the cost of textbooks and purchasing habits. (Fairchild 4). Despite the rising costs of
printing and shipping due to inflation, publishers are artificially causing the cost of textbooks to rise to
line their own pockets with profit and it will harm lower to middle income students education.
Textbook prices have been on the rise since the late 1970s. A book that would have cost 25 dollars in
1978 had risen in cost to 208 dollars in 2013, an increase of 812 percent (Follett 1), and with an 82
percent increase between the years of 2002 and 2013 (Sennack 6). This is a higher increase in the
price percentage wise than medical care, housing, and even the consumer

William Blake Allusions
In William Blake s Poem The Chimney Sweeper , Blake uses allusions, symbols, and metaphor to
convey his theme of Innocence, Death, and Youth. With this Blake also goes in depth about the
speakers childhood. Finally Blake ends with a dream and how innocence is a major part of the poem.
Blake s foundation of this poem relies on biblical allusions which provide the poem with a theme of
innocence and, without them, Blake may have just had an ordinary poem with no deeper meaning in
it. Linkin states that The Angel s reported promise provides the first linguistic surprise in the poem...
the Angel told Tom if he d be a good boy, / He d have God for his father never want joy (32 33). Youth
takes over here as the little boy instead of being told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom Dacre is very crucial to the poem and in an Overview of The Chimney Sweeper it mentions In
the second stanza, the child identifies another young sweeper, Tom Dacre, who cried when his head
was shaven (his curls are compared to the wool of a lamb s back) (1 2). This scene adds onto the
theme of youth and innocence which is what most of the poem revolves around. So it is very clear that
this is where the most noticeable metaphor in the poem is so far with Blake relating crying Tom Dacre
to a lamb. As Blake does allusions he also connects it to metaphors because when he writes locked up
in coffins of black (12), this can also be taken as a metaphor for the soot that the children are covered
in after they clean chimneys. Then in further thought the coffins, which is relation to the theme of
death and how the youthful chimney sweepers are trapped in cases before they are released as Blake
cleverly writes an Angel who had a bright key, And he opened the coffins set them all free (13 14).
The angel sets them free and they can finally get free and cleanse their souls, at least that is what
Blake is going for when he writes And wash in a river and shine in the Sun. Then naked white, all
their bags left behind, They rise upon clouds, and sport in the wind. (16 18) These lines contain two
metaphors which are that they are cleansing their

The Princess Bride Film Analysis
It is remarkably difficult to narrow down a favorite movie because I have a few, however the one film
that I have already watched numerous times and still plan on watching many more would have to be
The Princess Bride. It is a story based on the book by S. Morgenstern s classic tale of true love and
high adventure abridged with the good parts version by William Goldman who later translated it to
screenplay. The book was actually written as a nonexistent political satire, however this story is also
infused with excerpts from Goldman s fictional life. The film preserves this unique structure to tell a
story within a story by using the actors Peter Faulk and Fred Savage as grandfather and sick grandson,
respectively. The Princess Bride uses a variety of techniques from acting technique, cinematography,
narrative structure, the potential for societal impact, style, genre, and sound to reveal a satire of the
common fairy tale, while simultaneously becoming one of the most cherished movies for over thirty
years.
The illusion of movement is introduced fairly early in the film as the story opens with Buttercup riding

Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures
Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the people
living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is easy to see
how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general influence on the
perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature offers one of the most
important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in their writing, and through
other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to day realities experienced by
colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so profoundly influential. What are post

This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by
European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new cross
cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this is
constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the period
of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the literatures
of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta,
New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all post colonial
literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category. Perhaps because of its
current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post colonial nature has not
been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre as it evolved over the last
two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures everywhere. What each of these
literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive regional characteristics is that they
emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization and asserted themselves by
foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their differences from the
assumptions of the imperial centre. It is this

ATONEMENT
Joe Wright s 2002 feature film Atonement , based on Ian McEwan s 2002 critically acclaimed novel of
the same name, masterfully adapted for the screen by Christopher Hampton, is at its heart about
language and its power; about the way a lie told by a child inspired by a letter not intended for her

to restore the indolent simplicity of that summer afternoon through the innocent sound of clicking

Biography Of Cecilia Beaux
Cecilia Beaux was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the youngest daughter to Jean Adolphe
Beaux and Cecilia Kent Leavitt. After her mom died and their dad left for France, Cecilia and her
sister, Elta, were raised by their grandparents and aunts (NMWA, 1). Beaux s interest in art started at a
young age when she was encouraged at home and in school to take up art. Her and her uncle would
visit the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she had her first major exposure to art (Carter,
25). When she attended school, Beaux was unable to afford the art fee, so she began art lessons with
her relative, Catherine Ann Drinker. Drinker was an accomplished artist at this time and became
Beaux s role model throughout the time they studied together. After having lessons with Drinker,
Beaux studied with Francis Adolf Van der Wielen and then eventually took over his post and was
appointed as a drawing teacher (Carter, 37). She was mainly doing lithographs at this time for Thomas
Sinclair, a Philadelphia printer. Under the influence of Thomas Eakins, in 1876 she started attending
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (carter, 54). After leaving PAFA, Beaux continued to study
with more people and eventually moved to France to expand her horizons even though she was doing
so well in Philadelphia. This is when Beaux decided to devote herself to portraiture. She eventually
moved back to Philadelphia and painted many prominent members of society, such as writers,
politicians, and other artists (NMWA, 1). At the peak of her portrait career is when she painted Seated
Girl in a Long Black Dress. She painted this piece in 1885 which was the same year that she won the
Mary Smith Prize at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts exhibitions (NMWA, 1). Beaux was
so well known for her portraits and was commissioned by many well known people. She was one of
the most successful portrait artists of her time and received numerous awards, had her own exhibit,
and published her autobiography (NMWA, 1). Beaux received the Chi Omega fraternity s gold medal,
for the American woman who had the made the greatest contribution to the culture of the world from
First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt (NMWA, 1). Cecilia Beaux was considered to best

A Murder In Safrax
The Maid
Everything stood still in the kingdom, and peace was easy to find. Safrax was a magical place and
everyone had a purpose within the city walls. The castle had about one hundred and fifty personnel
and the city consisted of about eight thousand people. The city streets were always packed and the
markets full of food. You could probably say though, that a good portion of the men didn t eat
anything because their bellies were always full of mead. This is what the kingdom was known for,
their strong noble men and the wonderful mead that washes worries away. It did just that until today.
The day that a maid was murdered.
William Henry used to folly in detective business but resided to blacksmithing a few years back. It s
something his father taught him. His old apprentice Walter Hayes is the handyman at the forge. They

and ask him how to solve it. By now the town crier was running the streets screaming, Deceased maid
in the castle! Cause unknown! This was unheard of. A murder in Safrax cannot be possible. Or is it?
William took no time to gather his things. He didn t stop detective business because he didn t care for
it anymore, but there were no cases to solve. William and Walter were running through the streets
pushing through the river of consumers. While running up to the castle it seemed as though everyone

Trinity Essay
When you think of God do you think of one divine entity or do you take into account the age old idea
of the Trinity? For all of time we have understood the three individual person s in God, the Trinity, to
be one in the same. The teaching of the Christian church tells us that God is three unique and separate
people s, but they are at the same time all one person in God. Now people have many different ways to
picture or represent the idea of three people as one. The trial of history has come up with many
different ideas and images to try and represent the Trinity. Like many things that have to do with the
unknown nature of religion we put our mental limitations on our ideas. This is only natural because it
is the only way we can comprehend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally the three coins are used because the coins are all cast from the same pot of substance to make
them. This can be cut down even further to say it has to be three coins made out of the same coin.
These are all different ways to try and explain an idea of what the Trinity is representative of. So to
start explaining the meaning of the Trinity we believe in God the Father Almighty. God begot his son
Jesus and sent forth the Holy Spirit, This is saying that these other two people came directly from the
being of God. This makes them directly a part of God. They are all of the same person however and
have their own individual identities. Many may get confused when they look at the Christian religion
and see that we believe in one God yet there are three distinct people. The Creator, the Savior, and the
Teacher are the distinct person s one would see yet the Trinity is how we understand them all to be one
God. So the meaning of the Trinity is to strengthen our belief in one God by explaining how he is
three person s in one. Next we must understand what the function of the Trinity is. The best way to
explain the function of the Trinity is to use the analogy of the chain. The Trinity work together and are
linked directly to one another to make one strong bond and to complete different tasks. First off God is
the all powerful creator. He made all that exists in the universe. He is the watcher of everything that

Calpurnia Julius Caesar
At the end of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Antony refers to Brutus by saying, This was the
noblest Roman of them all . I do not think that Brutus was the noblest character in the play. Quite
frankly, I would think that Calpurnia Caesar, the 3rd and Last wife of Julius would be. She is a caring
and loving and humble wife that has been there for Caesar up to his time of death. You really can not
get more noble than that. Calpurnia is always by his side with him even when she is not physically

The Recurring Theme of Revenge in Shakespeare s Hamlet
Whether or not the readers enjoy reading or are fond of the play, Hamlet, it s obviously true that
Hamlet s procrastination on taking revenge for his father s death is a constantly recurring theme
throughout the play. To begin with, after the ghost reveals the truth of Claudius killing King Hamlet Sr
to Hamlet and demands Hamlet to seek revenge, Hamlet is somewhat convinced but mostly unsure
about what he heard from the ghost, The spirit that I have seen may be a devil, and the devil hath
power t assume a pleasing shape, yea, and perhaps, out of my weakness and melancholy, as he is very
potent with such spirits, abuse me to damn me..catch the conscience of the king (2.2.587 594). The
sudden appearance of the ghost triggers Hamlet s suspicion of the ghost s real identity, in which
Hamlet s carefulness not only leads to showing a performance, which corresponds to his father s death
to test the conscience of Claudius, but also delays his vengeance.
Besides, Hamlet fails to take revenge because of the perfectionism although he has a proper
opportunity. When Hamlet encounters Claudius praying, Hamlet confirms what the ghost tells him but
he does not carry out his revenge immediately. Now might I do it pat, now he is a praying. And now I
ll do t. And so he goes to heaven; and so am I revenged. That would be scanned: a villain kills my
father, and for that I, his sole son, do this same villain to heavenî (3.3.76 82). Hamlet himself wants

Although a seemingly odd combination, I am double majoring in Chemistry and French at IUPUI.
This is a complimentary pair for me in terms of my future endeavors, however. I aspire to attend

some choose medicine for the paycheck, prestige, or to simply carry on the family business, I wish to

opportunity for me to serve as a source of care and comfort for my patients and their families, as I was

The Kiss Marble Sculpture by Rachel Manson Essay
This was created by Rachel Manson. In historic period, carving is the technique of changing shape of
a material which the artist subtracts or cuts away from a solid material to reach the desired form by
use of tools such as knives, chisels tipped power cutters, and chainsaws. This kind of Art work, can be
time consuming and painstaking method because of the hard and heavy materials, such as stones or
other marble that are often used. However, artists also carve from softer substances such as wood and

Throughout ancient period, there have been plenty of pieces of art that are appalling, shocking, and
created quite an abstract reaction, yet they are great works of Art. In addition, there are pieces of Art
sculpture with quality in which immediate impression you have upon seeing, hearing, and touching
will reflect emotional response within you. This takes place before your instinct recognizes the content
of the work and starts to work out meanings and messages. I believe sculpture has to include some of
the elements and principles of the language of Art in order to be recognized. The sculptor needs the
structure they present to be successfully communicating the idea and present the beauty and harmony
of the work. I have used the example as modeling technique, the sculptor manipulate soft materials to
create a three dimensional form. Unlike carving, it requires soft substances that can be easily and
rapidly shaped by the sculptor s hands. Most frequents material used for modeling is clay; however,
plaster, papier mache, and wax are also common material. In my humble opinion, my conscience, tells

The Madonn An Ultimate Symbol Of Power
The Madonna: An Ultimate Symbol of Power In Rogier van der Weyden s the Madonna, Mary is
portrayed as a powerful but matronly figure. Mary was hand picked by God to carry the savior, Jesus.
By doing this, God shows his trust in Mary s power to overcome the worldly views of conception
before marriage. Not only was Mary powerful enough to give birth to Jesus, she was brave enough to
take on the daunting task. Mary set an example of the power and internal strength women possess, and
Rogier van der Wyden captured that perfectly in his painting the Madonna.
In the Madonna, Mary is standing tall and proud while breastfeeding the baby Jesus. Her face shows
the glow of a proud mother and confident woman. Mary not only shows power by bringing life into
this world, but also by continuing to feed and nurture Jesus. A woman has the gift to bring new life
into the world, and to keep that being healthy by feeding them from her own body. This work of art
perfectly exemplifies all of the different aspects of what a woman contributes to the human life.
Rogier van der Weyden used key details to show the importance of the two figures in this painting. He
covered Mary with in a long royal colored sheet that those of great prominence would wear. On top of
the royal color clothing, Mary has a crown on her head. He made her long tamed curls a rich and
vibrant color that gives the painting life and excitement. As for the baby Jesus, Rogier painted him
wrapped in a white cloth as a symbol of his

A.In the past, African American families suffered a lot when they were slaves in the society. The
people in the family were separated because of the sale of family members as slaves. However, they
still maintained the bond with the family. The slaves, who got their freedom, started working hard to
save money to free their family members from the clutches of slavery. The people who unfortunately
lost their blood relations made up with the fictive kin like cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
However, none of these were blood relations. This practice is taken from ancient African traditions
where non blood relatives were accorded status of family members. It was considered to be an honor.

Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death. Every year, about 421,000 people are injured
in crashes that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way, (Hopkins). Even though this is
true, people who use a cell phone while driving are not punished as harshly as drunk drivers. A DUI,
driving while intoxicated, is a misdemeanor and could result in a few months in jail, as well as a fine.
The punishments for a DUI get more severe each time someone is charged. While, the punishment for
texting and driving are only monetary fines. So, why is texting and driving considered a less
punishable offense? A major reason is because of the length of time both have been a problem. The
first law against drinking and driving was in 1910 and cell phones weren t popular until 80 years after
in the 1990s. Because of the long time period of drunk driving being a problem, there is more
attention towards the crime. There also wasn t a long enough time to get the same tangible statistics to
compare using a phone to drinking and driving. However, now, cell phones have been around for years
and the awareness of using them while driving is high but the awareness of the actual danger is low.
People who text while driving should face harsher punishments because texting while driving is just as
dangerous as driving intoxicated; this is evident through the number of car crashes and fatalities
caused by this issue every year, emotional effects texting has on a driver, and the

Essay on Paleo Diet for Autoimmune Disorders
Paleo Diet for Autoimmune Disorders Our body s immune system protects us from infections and
diseases. When the immune system begin attacking healthy cells and tissues in the body, this can
trigger autoimmune diseases. This disorder tend to run in families and women particularly Hispanic
American, Native American, and African American have the higher risk. Treatment involves attempts
in controlling the process of the disease as well as reducing the symptoms. Medications and
supplements can be effective, while some chooses to rely in the changes of nutritional intake. Paleo is

Paleo diet for Autoimmune Disorders Making nutritional changes can help in treating autoimmune
disorders. One of the most celebrated diets that has been found effective is the Paleo or primal diet.
Paleo diet is based upon eating the same diet consumed by our ancestors during the Paleolithic period.
These includes fish, grass fed meats, eggs, vegetables, roots, and nuts. Eating natural, unprocessed
foods is the basic idea in paleo diet. By making a few changes in the paleo diet, a new diet plan
emerges and this focuses on treating autoimmune disorders. This diet plan is called Paleo
Autoimmune protocol. This plan can be confusing due to numerous information and ideas coming
from different people. However, the main idea with this is to follow the dietary restrictions as well as
the recommendations strictly. For other people following the paleo diet, they may be able to enjoy
eating non paleo food occasional but for those suffering with autoimmune diseases, the set diet plan
should be strictly adhered. Here are a few guidelines on paleo food choices for those with autoimmune
diseases: Foods to be eaten Vegetables artichoke, arugula, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cucumber,
kale, leek, lettuce, mushroom, spinach, and watercress Root crops beet, carrot, onion, parsnip, turnip,
radish, shallot, and yam Fats animal fat (grass fed animals), coconut oil, lard, olive oil, and palm oil

How The Current Copyright Laws Are Not Be Reformed For...
Due to how abusable current copyright laws are, they must be reformed to prevent copyright trolling.
According to Matthew Sag, The essence of trolling is that the plaintiff is more focused on the business
of litigation than on selling a product or service or licensing their IP to third parties to sell a product or
a service ( Copyright Trolling, An Empirical Study page 4). Copyright trolls seek to acquire their
income from suing others on copyright violations, rather than continually creating new works and
using copyright to protect them. Copyright, whether one agrees with the concept or not, was not
designed for this purpose. People should not be allowed to make a business off of suing others. This is
not only unjust, but wastes the court s time with actual crimes. The United States must reform its
current laws to prevent this type of behavior from happening. According to Parker Higgins, Like email
spammers, copyright trolls depend on the ability to cheaply cast a very wide net, sending out hundreds
or thousands of accusations at once and getting settlement payments back from some percentage (
Copyright trolls suffer big loss par. 3). Many trolls do not target specific groups or people; rather, they
spread it in such a way that any company or organization can accidentally misuse it. This creates an
environment in which it is impossible for many groups to tell if they can use another party s content
without invoking a ludicrous copyright lawsuit. This is not a

Chloe Moore s The Sound Of Music
Thinking she would be assigned the role of a nun freshmen Chloe Moore found herself shocked as a
freshman to get the lead role of Mariah in the spring play The Sound of Music. Moore was in show
choir the morning the roles were posted. When she walked out a guy she had never seen before told
her to go look at the casting for the musical, and that she would be happy with it. While Moore was
checking the list over and over she called her dad to share the news. I saw my name and I was like
wait what, I kept doing this thing where I ran my finger over my name, Moore said. My dad and I
cried a little. While in her state of excitement, other upperclassmen jealousy started to bubble. There

She also loved the behind the scenes moments. She loved trying on costumes and just talking behind
stage. This really helped her meet new people and develop new friendships. It s quite interesting
seeing so many people, I ve become more open minded to what everyone has to bring to the table,
Moore said. Also trying on costumes is fun because most of the time they re too big. While Moore
worked on the musical she had some regrets. She wishes she would ve done more memorization at the
beginning so she could have focused on the character more, but she got it all caught up.Moore was
satisfied with her work and would not change anything else. They have started including tech and
costumes to the rehearsals. Just like Moore Gibson had been involved in musicals and show choir
since middle school. They both were in a production of Alice in Wonderland, but at different times.
For the musicals the process of how it came to be started with auditions, and then the roles are casted.
Gibson described meeting everyone who got a role as a way to meet new people. After roles were
assigned they worked on memorization while the set was being

Second World War Alliances
Though the Second World War consisted of many participating countries all linked via a variety of
alliances, pacts and treaties. Theses alliances are not the type of you would think of in the common
sense. Though these alliances were presumably and originally initiated with goal of both parties
mutually benefitting from winning or preventing a war, this would slowly change has the war
progress. Countries that had made alliances with each other would lead to not complete mutual
support but using the each other for their own agendas. This would be true for both the Allied Powers
and the Axis Powers. Though there are many facets that led to the beginning of the Second World War,
one can argue that a major factor would include relations between Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union
Poland, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship between Nazi Germany and Italy was also like this. Italy, under the ambition of
Benito Mussolini, initiated a campaign on June 10th 1940 in North Africa in hopes of building an
empire reminisce of the Roman Empire back in the first century. Italy begins its campaign in North
Africa with an attempt to take Egypt from the British Empire. After a few encounters with Britain in
Libya and becoming low on resources, Mussolini appeals to Hitler for a bailout. In response Germany
commences Operation Sonnenblume or Operation Sunflower, sending the Deustsche Afrikakorps
(DAK) commanded by Lt. Gen. Erwin Rommel to aid the Italians as a blocking force against the
British. Though the inclusion of Rommel and the DAK lead the Italians from defensive to offensive,
the outcome unfortunately leads to Italy s unsuccessful attempt at North Africa subjugating Italy under
Nazi Germany and its agenda. It can be said that the nature of the German Italian alliance in North
African campaign was one of only self interest and opportunity not of anticipating mutual

Essay On Spirometry
I am going to presume that if you are reading this article on Jane s website, you have COPD [or other
lung disease]. I am also going to take a big leap and presume that you have all done a breathing test
called spirometry? I ask this because statistics show that a surprising number of people have been
diagnosed with COPD, but have never had spirometry done. That is like diagnosing a patient with
diabetes without ever testing their blood sugar level. Spirometry is done using a piece of equipment
called a spirometer. The term spiro comes from the Latin language and means to breathe, and meter
(derived from either Old English, French or Greek...take your pick) means to measure. The spirometer
is not a new invention. In 1846 an Englishman named John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These patients cannot easily exhale all of their air, leaving some air in the lungs at the end of
exhalation. We refer to this as air trapping. Patients with the Little Lung Syndrome can t get air in
because something is restricting the flow of gas into their lungs. Imagine someone putting a wide,
very tight belt around your rib cage...what would happen when you tried to take in a deep breath? You
couldn t! With restrictive disease; pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, asbestosis, etc...your
lungs are very stiff, and they do not inflate easily, so it is hard to take in a deep breath. If after doing a
spirometry test, the therapist determines that your lungs are not functioning normally, we give the
results to your doctor and he/she will order more specific tests in a pulmonary function lab to see what
exactly the problem is. You have no doubt heard or read the National Lung Health Education Program
(NLHEP) slogan; Test your lungs, know your numbers . Spirometry gives you the numbers. If you
have high cholesterol, you know your numbers...I know, because I do. I also know that I do not have
diabetes because I know my

Syria Crisis Essay
Under the request of National Security Adviser Flynn, the following is a summary on the current
situation in Syria and a recommendation for the best course of action to undertake. In it you will find a
set of possible policy options to address the situation.
SITUATION
In 2011 the civil war in Syria began after protesters clashed against Syrian security forces leaving
many protestors dead. What began as protests against the government of Syrian President Bashar Al
Assad calling for him to step aside because of political disagreement and the deaths of protestors, has
evolved into a multi dimensional war that has seen various groups join the fight against one another.
The United States became involved in the conflict after the use of ... Show more content on

2. Although President Bashar Al Assad has committed atrocities against the people of Syria, he
remains the only force in the region that can keep radical terrorists groups, such as the
Islamic State, from advancing. Therefore it is critically important that he remain in power. 3. In order
to successfully defeat the Islamic State it is imperative that the United State and Russia cooperate
together in a concerted effort to eliminate the Islamic State. 4. There must be an establishment of a no
fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from
the war.
What these goals mean is that we will ultimately have to select an option that allows us to achieve
these tasks, but that will inevitably lead to disagreement between the United States and our allies. The
United States must face the reality that certain allies will not agree with our decision. The national
security of the United States must be our ultimate goal.
THE DILEMMA WE FACE
The problem that we have is that in agreeing to allow President Assad to remain in power, we will run
into much backlash from allies. Saudi Arabia will not be in agreement as they want to see President
Assad toppled, and want a group that is more aligned to their interests in power. Israel will not be
satisfied if Assad remains because of historic conflict between the two states, as well as President
Assad s long support for the terrorist group Hezbollah. Our ally, Turkey, also is not in

  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Single Transferable Voting System Every three years the Australian Senate is reelected using the single transferable voting system. In this system, voters rank the list of candidates by order of preference to fill spots in a multi member district. Then a quota is set based on the number of votes cast and the number of Senate seats to fill. If any candidate receives more votes than the quota, they receive a seat. Any surplus votes are then transferred to second choice candidates to see if they reach the quota, and so on until all Senate seats are filled. In reality, single transferable voting is not a perfect election system. Because it does not follow the independence of irrelevant alternatives criteria of Arrow s theorem, there is always a chance that the system could result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Causes Of The War Of 1812 Essay The immediate causes of the War of 1812 were a series of economic downs taken by the British and French against the US as part of the Napoleonic Wars and American outrage at the British practice of impressment. In response to the 1806 British Orders in Council, which crippled American trade. In 1812, with President Madison in office, Congress declared war against the British. There were many causes of the war including British attempts to restrict U.S. trade, the Royal Navy s impressment of American seamen and America s desire to expand its territory. The United States suffered from many costly defeats from the hands of the British, Canadian and Native American troops over the course of the War of 1812. Some of which were the capture and burning of the nation s capital, Washington, D.C., in August 1814. Many in the United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Britain moved for an agreement after the failure of the assault on Baltimore. During the negotiations, the United States gave up its demands to end impressment, while Britain promised to leave Canada s borders unchanged and abandon efforts to create an Indian state in the Northwest. Once the Treaty of Ghent was signed British forces were unaware that peach had been finalized and British forces planned a major attack on New Orleans. They were then met with defeat at the hands of future U.S. president Andrew Jackson s army. News of the battle boosted the morale of the United States and left Americans with a taste of victory. Some people remember the war as a relatively minor conflict in the United States and Britain. It seems a lot larger for Canadians and for Native Americans, they see it as a decisive turning point in their losing struggle to govern themselves. Most importantly, the war s outcome boosted national self confidence and encouraged the growing spirit of American expansionism that would shape the better part of the 19th ... Permanent Life Insurance Essay How to Choose Permanent Life Insurance Which Life Insurance Plan is Better For My Family: You may require one or more types of life insurance to meet your financial needs and goals. Two major categories of life insurance are term and permanent. Permanent life insurance has options including whole life, variable life, universal life, and single premium life. Term life Term life insurance provides a fixed amount of coverage, at a fixed premium, over a specific period of time or term (10, 15, 20 or 30 years). Permanent life What is permanent life insurance? Permanent life insurance covers you from date of issue until the day you die, as long as you continue to pay your premiums. Permanent life can earn cash value as your premiums are invested. This helps you build wealth while also protecting it. And of course, it transfers and distributes your wealth efficiently to your heirs. Why would I need it? Because it never expires, permanent life can be used as the foundation of your overall life insurance plan for a variety of life stages and financial needs. What else should I consider about permanent life? Permanent life policies tend to have higher premiums than term policies, and may offer less flexibility than term life for pricing and options. Types of permanent life insurance : Whole, universal, variable and single premium are all types of permanent life insurance. Each may be used for wealth accumulation, protection, distribution and transfer depending on your needs. • 9. Minnesota Twin Essay The Minnesota twin study, Bouchard et al. (1990) was a longitudinal and cross cultural study to check the effect of heredity and environment on intelligence. This study was conducted on monozygotic and dizygotic twins separated from each other in infancy and reared apart. Approximately 50 hours of interviews and testing was done on each twin. For measuring intelligence, the WAIS test and the Raven test was used. The correlated IQ rates of the monozygotic twins reared apart were then compared to those that were reared together and dizygotic twins raised together to understand the result of heredity and environment on intelligence. This was useful as they shared similar genetic makeup but were exposed to different environmental conditions. Monozygotic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the study was cross cultural and included people from all over the world and was relatively large so the results were more generalisable. One question about the reliability of the study is that the twins have a common prenatal environment and if this time period is the most vital in deciding how the childs brain is wired then it is the environment having an effect on them. This explains similar iqs in fraternal twins as compared to siblings. Also the twins usually spent the first few months together in the same environment before being separated this may be the reason for similar traits and so it would be the environment influencing intelligence. Many of the twins in the study spent a few years together after being reunited before the study was conducted and this too could have influenced the results. The study relied on media coverage for recruitment of participants. Also most of the twins did not grow up in relatively uncorrelated environments for example socially disadvantaged and so it could have influenced results. the study was not able to gain complete concrete evidence.the basis of it is understandable to the complex ... • 10. Relationship Between Britain And The Colonies Though both are independent nations, the United Kingdom and the United States now share a close bond, and have even been allies during WWI and WWII in the 20th century. But when the colonies of the United States were under British rule, the relations between the Colonies and Britain were not so friendly. The views on government and taxation between the two became radically different and created a large disagreement between the American Patriots and those loyal to Britain. Cracks began to form in the relationship between Britain and the Colonies, and the differences between the two would inevitably result in the American Revolution. Between 1754 and 1763, Britain and French were involved in the French and Indian War, which was a territorial dispute between Britain and France. With the help of the British American colonists, Britain was able to maintain and increase its borders in America, but the funds needed to support the war caused Britain to go into debt ( French and Indian War/Seven Years War 1754 1763 1). Not willing to tax its own citizens any further, Britain decided to tax the American colonies more in order to generate revenue. Before the war, American colonists were paying a fraction of the taxes than those living in Britain, and even after the imposed taxes, the average American would pay less taxes than the average Englishman ( British Acts on Colonial America 1). • 14. Creationism vs. Evolutionism in Public Schools Debate: Creationism vs. Evolution in Schools: 1st Affirmative Constructive Speech Creationism and Evolutionism by definition are very different topics. Currently, evolutionary naturalism is the most widely taught view of origins in America. In schools in the modern day, only evolutionism is taught and condoned. But before the 1920s, only creationism was taught, and evolution was forbidden. Then, on February 20, 2008, the Florida State Board of Education voted to revise the public school guidelines to require teachers to teach only Evolutionism. The law was passed with a very narrow 4 to 3 vote in favor of the law. Our resolution (affirmative side) is to teach both the theories of evolution and creationism side by side. This would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An additional chink in the system is that the theory of evolution has many gaps that need to be filled by something like the theory of creation. While evolution may be the dominating theory in Florida school boards, it does not provide some answers to several areas that Creationism may actually answer, such as how the first organism, Earth, or the entire Universe came to be. On the other hand, Creationism has equally as many holes that can be filled by the Evolutionary Theory such as how all the species of the earth became what they are now. Creationism and Evolutionism are not that different. In 1969, when American astronauts first stood on the moon, they read from the bible. Men of science and technology, reading from the Book of Genesis. This is an example of how an individual can believe in evolution and other scientific theories and still have faith. Our plan to resolve these harms is this: the state of Florida should teach Creationism and Evolution side by side. Each theory would be taught sequentially and would have its own chapter of discussion. Teaching both, side by side, in the same class would provide a fair and equal opportunity of religion, education and choice. It would give the youth an opportunity to learn and expand their ... The department is facing the problem of losing funds for their operation. Accessing the needs for the human service programs is significant in evaluating the success of the program. It involves determining the problems to be addressed by the program thereby identifying the ability of the programmers in meeting the needs. The programmers can only consider the program as effective just after determining the compatibility of the program to the community problems. Accessing the needs will help the programmers in analyzing and diagnosing any social needs that relate to the program. The programmers would have to state the actual problem, analyze the scope of the problem and define the nature of the community needs with the proper target intervention. The steps followed in needs assessment include the following: performing gap analysis, prioritizing the activities according to their importance, identification of the causes of opportunities and performance and the ultimate identification of solution and growth opportunities (Unrau et al, 2007). Determining the role of the outcome in the evaluation will help in identifying the effectiveness and the efficiency of the program in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Hobbes Social Contract Essay The natural state of man has been a reoccurring theme when reviewing the history of political philosophy and theory. This study has helped societies develop laws and common goals. Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) theory is still strikingly relevant in today s law and order. His main concern was how people lived: how to avoid war since people lived in defensive fear. Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778) challenged Hobbes s philosophy. He says, The passage from the state of nature to the civil state produces a very remarkable change in man, by substituting justice for instinct in his conduct. In other words, he thought that men were good by nature and when exposed to society they are corrupted. Although both philosophers study the course of society, they have very divergent views. This paper will examine both theories of the social contract. Thus, I will later conclude why Hobbes has a more feasible hypothesis. In Leviathan chapter 12, Hobbes describes society and the state of nature as such; No arts; no letters; no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of violent death: and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short. People are encouraged to act freely, but with precautions as they may pose a threat to others survival. As stated above, humankind is constantly threatened since we naturally have a built in defensive mechanism. He says, ...the passions that incline men to peace are: fear of death; desire of such things as are necessary to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Thank You For Being Expandable Essay Do you think it s right for people who have PTSD to not be treated immediately? I think especially for veterans, yes because making them wait hours and hours or even weeks and weeks just to see the doctor is just too much. More should be done to improve current treatment for sufferers of PTSD. We should be grateful for what the veterans have done for us. It s sad that veterans can t just walk into a hospital and get treated. To start off if a veteran calls the V.A. it s because that person is in bad condition. So therefore, when they call to make an appointment or to come in to see the doctor they should get treated quickly. In the story Thank You for Being Expandable a man had returned for the Iraq war and he started to have thoughts of killing himself and so he tried to call the V.A. to get him some help. But all they did was put him on hold. So he said, In my experience, the wait for an appointment was typically eight to ten weeks, but sometimes as long as three to four months. Either way he tried he couldn t win because whether he came in person or not he still had to wait a long time. But he also had to make sure that when he did get to talk to the doctor he was really precise with what he said. • 18. The Current Practices Of The Textbook Industry Drive Up... Textbooks are getting more expensive as the years go by, publishers add extra materials to raise prices, and new editions are published frequently, often with little to no real content change. These problems are even worse today, as the cost of books keeps rising to the point where some students will decline to take a class due to the cost of the material. A 2004 study by the California Student Public Interest Research Group (CALPIRG) along with the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group (OSPIRG), called Ripoff 101: How the current practices of the textbook industry drive up the cost of college textbooks, confirmed this problem. A survey polling the most widely assigned textbooks at 10 public universities in California and Oregon, and interviews were done with 156 faculty members and 521 students on the cost of textbooks and purchasing habits. (Fairchild 4). Despite the rising costs of printing and shipping due to inflation, publishers are artificially causing the cost of textbooks to rise to line their own pockets with profit and it will harm lower to middle income students education. Textbook prices have been on the rise since the late 1970s. A book that would have cost 25 dollars in 1978 had risen in cost to 208 dollars in 2013, an increase of 812 percent (Follett 1), and with an 82 percent increase between the years of 2002 and 2013 (Sennack 6). • 20. William Blake Allusions In William Blake s Poem The Chimney Sweeper , Blake uses allusions, symbols, and metaphor to convey his theme of Innocence, Death, and Youth. With this Blake also goes in depth about the speakers childhood. Finally Blake ends with a dream and how innocence is a major part of the poem. Blake s foundation of this poem relies on biblical allusions which provide the poem with a theme of innocence and, without them, Blake may have just had an ordinary poem with no deeper meaning in it. Linkin states that The Angel s reported promise provides the first linguistic surprise in the poem... the Angel told Tom if he d be a good boy, / He d have God for his father never want joy (32 33). Tom Dacre is very crucial to the poem and in an Overview of The Chimney Sweeper it mentions In the second stanza, the child identifies another young sweeper, Tom Dacre, who cried when his head was shaven (his curls are compared to the wool of a lamb s back) (1 2). This scene adds onto the theme of youth and innocence which is what most of the poem revolves around. So it is very clear that this is where the most noticeable metaphor in the poem is so far with Blake relating crying Tom Dacre to a lamb. As Blake does allusions he also connects it to metaphors because when he writes locked up in coffins of black (12), this can also be taken as a metaphor for the soot that the children are covered in after they clean chimneys. Then in further thought the coffins, which is relation to the theme of death and how the youthful chimney sweepers are trapped in cases before they are released as Blake cleverly writes an Angel who had a bright key, And he opened the coffins set them all free (13 14). The angel sets them free and they can finally get free and cleanse their souls, at least that is what Blake is going for when he writes And wash in a river and shine in the Sun. Then naked white, all their bags left behind, They rise upon clouds, and sport in the wind. (16 18) These lines contain two metaphors which are that they are cleansing their ... • 21. The Princess Bride Film Analysis It is remarkably difficult to narrow down a favorite movie because I have a few, however the one film that I have already watched numerous times and still plan on watching many more would have to be The Princess Bride. It is a story based on the book by S. Morgenstern s classic tale of true love and high adventure abridged with the good parts version by William Goldman who later translated it to screenplay. The book was actually written as a nonexistent political satire, however this story is also infused with excerpts from Goldman s fictional life. The film preserves this unique structure to tell a story within a story by using the actors Peter Faulk and Fred Savage as grandfather and sick grandson, respectively. The Princess Bride uses a variety of techniques from acting technique, cinematography, narrative structure, the potential for societal impact, style, genre, and sound to reveal a satire of the common fairy tale, while simultaneously becoming one of the most cherished movies for over thirty years. The illusion of movement is introduced fairly early in the film as the story opens with Buttercup riding her horse across the field in order to torment the farm boy, Westley, working on her farm. • 22. Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the people living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is easy to see how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general influence on the perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature offers one of the most important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in their writing, and through other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to day realities experienced by colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so profoundly influential. What are post colonial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new cross cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this is constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the period of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all post colonial literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category. Perhaps because of its current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post colonial nature has not been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre as it evolved over the last two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures everywhere. What each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre. • 25. Biography Of Cecilia Beaux Cecilia Beaux was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the youngest daughter to Jean Adolphe Beaux and Cecilia Kent Leavitt. After her mom died and their dad left for France, Cecilia and her sister, Elta, were raised by their grandparents and aunts (NMWA, 1). Beaux s interest in art started at a young age when she was encouraged at home and in school to take up art. Her and her uncle would visit the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she had her first major exposure to art (Carter, 25). When she attended school, Beaux was unable to afford the art fee, so she began art lessons with her relative, Catherine Ann Drinker. Drinker was an accomplished artist at this time and became Beaux s role model throughout the time they studied together. After having lessons with Drinker, Beaux studied with Francis Adolf Van der Wielen and then eventually took over his post and was appointed as a drawing teacher (Carter, 37). She was mainly doing lithographs at this time for Thomas Sinclair, a Philadelphia printer. Under the influence of Thomas Eakins, in 1876 she started attending the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (carter, 54). After leaving PAFA, Beaux continued to study with more people and eventually moved to France to expand her horizons even though she was doing so well in Philadelphia. This is when Beaux decided to devote herself to portraiture. She eventually moved back to Philadelphia and painted many prominent members of society, such as writers, politicians, and other artists (NMWA, 1). At the peak of her portrait career is when she painted Seated Girl in a Long Black Dress. She painted this piece in 1885 which was the same year that she won the Mary Smith Prize at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts exhibitions (NMWA, 1). Beaux was so well known for her portraits and was commissioned by many well known people. She was one of the most successful portrait artists of her time and received numerous awards, had her own exhibit, and published her autobiography (NMWA, 1). For all of time we have understood the three individual person s in God, the Trinity, to be one in the same. The teaching of the Christian church tells us that God is three unique and separate people s, but they are at the same time all one person in God. Now people have many different ways to picture or represent the idea of three people as one. The trial of history has come up with many different ideas and images to try and represent the Trinity. Like many things that have to do with the unknown nature of religion we put our mental limitations on our ideas. This is only natural because it is the only way we can comprehend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally the three coins are used because the coins are all cast from the same pot of substance to make them. This can be cut down even further to say it has to be three coins made out of the same coin. These are all different ways to try and explain an idea of what the Trinity is representative of. So to start explaining the meaning of the Trinity we believe in God the Father Almighty. God begot his son Jesus and sent forth the Holy Spirit, This is saying that these other two people came directly from the being of God. This makes them directly a part of God. They are all of the same person however and have their own individual identities. Many may get confused when they look at the Christian religion and see that we believe in one God yet there are three distinct people. The Creator, the Savior, and the Teacher are the distinct person s one would see yet the Trinity is how we understand them all to be one God. So the meaning of the Trinity is to strengthen our belief in one God by explaining how he is three person s in one. Next we must understand what the function of the Trinity is. The best way to explain the function of the Trinity is to use the analogy of the chain. The Trinity work together and are linked directly to one another to make one strong bond and to complete different tasks. First off God is the all powerful creator. Mary was hand picked by God to carry the savior, Jesus. By doing this, God shows his trust in Mary s power to overcome the worldly views of conception before marriage. Not only was Mary powerful enough to give birth to Jesus, she was brave enough to take on the daunting task. Mary set an example of the power and internal strength women possess, and Rogier van der Wyden captured that perfectly in his painting the Madonna. In the Madonna, Mary is standing tall and proud while breastfeeding the baby Jesus. Her face shows the glow of a proud mother and confident woman. Mary not only shows power by bringing life into this world, but also by continuing to feed and nurture Jesus. A woman has the gift to bring new life into the world, and to keep that being healthy by feeding them from her own body. This work of art perfectly exemplifies all of the different aspects of what a woman contributes to the human life. Majority of the people who are fleeing are traveling to Europe in hopes of sanction. • 42. Distracted Driving Is One Of The Leading Cause Of Death Essay Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of death. Every year, about 421,000 people are injured in crashes that have involved a driver who was distracted in some way, (Hopkins). Even though this is true, people who use a cell phone while driving are not punished as harshly as drunk drivers. A DUI, driving while intoxicated, is a misdemeanor and could result in a few months in jail, as well as a fine. The punishments for a DUI get more severe each time someone is charged. While, the punishment for texting and driving are only monetary fines. So, why is texting and driving considered a less punishable offense? A major reason is because of the length of time both have been a problem. The first law against drinking and driving was in 1910 and cell phones weren t popular until 80 years after in the 1990s. Because of the long time period of drunk driving being a problem, there is more attention towards the crime. There also wasn t a long enough time to get the same tangible statistics to compare using a phone to drinking and driving. However, now, cell phones have been around for years and the awareness of using them while driving is high but the awareness of the actual danger is low. People who text while driving should face harsher punishments because texting while driving is just as dangerous as driving intoxicated; this is evident through the number of car crashes and fatalities caused by this issue every year, emotional effects texting has on a driver, and the ... One of the most celebrated diets that has been found effective is the Paleo or primal diet. Paleo diet is based upon eating the same diet consumed by our ancestors during the Paleolithic period. These includes fish, grass fed meats, eggs, vegetables, roots, and nuts. Eating natural, unprocessed foods is the basic idea in paleo diet. By making a few changes in the paleo diet, a new diet plan emerges and this focuses on treating autoimmune disorders. This diet plan is called Paleo Autoimmune protocol. This plan can be confusing due to numerous information and ideas coming from different people. • 46. How The Current Copyright Laws Are Not Be Reformed For... Due to how abusable current copyright laws are, they must be reformed to prevent copyright trolling. According to Matthew Sag, The essence of trolling is that the plaintiff is more focused on the business of litigation than on selling a product or service or licensing their IP to third parties to sell a product or a service ( Copyright Trolling, An Empirical Study page 4). Copyright trolls seek to acquire their income from suing others on copyright violations, rather than continually creating new works and using copyright to protect them. Copyright, whether one agrees with the concept or not, was not designed for this purpose. People should not be allowed to make a business off of suing others. This is not only unjust, but wastes the court s time with actual crimes. The United States must reform its current laws to prevent this type of behavior from happening. According to Parker Higgins, Like email spammers, copyright trolls depend on the ability to cheaply cast a very wide net, sending out hundreds or thousands of accusations at once and getting settlement payments back from some percentage ( Copyright trolls suffer big loss par. 3). Many trolls do not target specific groups or people; rather, they spread it in such a way that any company or organization can accidentally misuse it. This creates an environment in which it is impossible for many groups to tell if they can use another party s content without invoking a ludicrous copyright lawsuit. This is not a ... Theses alliances are not the type of you would think of in the common sense. Though these alliances were presumably and originally initiated with goal of both parties mutually benefitting from winning or preventing a war, this would slowly change has the war progress. Countries that had made alliances with each other would lead to not complete mutual support but using the each other for their own agendas. This would be true for both the Allied Powers and the Axis Powers. Though there are many facets that led to the beginning of the Second World War, one can argue that a major factor would include relations between Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union Poland, ... Italy begins its campaign in North Africa with an attempt to take Egypt from the British Empire. After a few encounters with Britain in Libya and becoming low on resources, Mussolini appeals to Hitler for a bailout. In response Germany commences Operation Sonnenblume or Operation Sunflower, sending the Deustsche Afrikakorps (DAK) commanded by Lt. Gen. Erwin Rommel to aid the Italians as a blocking force against the British. Though the inclusion of Rommel and the DAK lead the Italians from defensive to offensive, the outcome unfortunately leads to Italy s unsuccessful attempt at North Africa subjugating Italy under Nazi Germany and its agenda. I am also going to take a big leap and presume that you have all done a breathing test called spirometry? I ask this because statistics show that a surprising number of people have been diagnosed with COPD, but have never had spirometry done. That is like diagnosing a patient with diabetes without ever testing their blood sugar level. Spirometry is done using a piece of equipment called a spirometer. Although President Bashar Al Assad has committed atrocities against the people of Syria, he remains the only force in the region that can keep radical terrorists groups, such as the Islamic State, from advancing. Therefore it is critically important that he remain in power. 3. In order to successfully defeat the Islamic State it is imperative that the United State and Russia cooperate together in a concerted effort to eliminate the Islamic State. 4. There must be an establishment of a no fly/humanitarian zone where civilians can receive aid and assistance without the fear of violence from the war. What these goals mean is that we will ultimately have to select an option that allows us to achieve these tasks, but that will inevitably lead to disagreement between the United States and our allies. The United States must face the reality that certain allies will not agree with our decision. The national security of the United States must be our ultimate goal. THE DILEMMA WE FACE The problem that we have is that in agreeing to allow President Assad to remain in power, we will run into much backlash from allies. Saudi Arabia will not be in agreement as they want to see President Assad toppled, and want a group that is more aligned to their interests in power.
