Anne Frank Book Analysis
Anne Frank, The Diary of a young girl, this book is about the ups and the downs of hiding in a secret
annex. The book has quite a bit that people today can relate to, even though they are not in hiding.
One of the main things in this book had difficult times. Each character had his or her own struggles.
Anne and her mom do not get along and she does not get along with Dussel (her roommate) Anne s
father, Otto Frank, is relaxed when things are calm but stressed when the place becomes tense. Mr.
and Mrs. Van Daan are the people who have to have things their way, but when something goes wrong
they panic. Living in secret seems very limited and stressful. They have different rules for each day
and night, and when there are people are downstairs working because the workers do not know about
the secret annex. Being locked up each person has different household jobs for each day and each
family gets a limited number of food rations or food coupons. Some of the rules included; they get up
at a quarter to seven and clean everything they slept on because the beds took up all of their days to
day living space (Wednesday, 4 August, 1943), at half past twelve each person goes off to do his or her
own thing because of the warehouse workers have left (Thursday, 5 August, 1943). Nowadays, people
go insane because they are used to being able to communicate in many ways. Although the older
would be fine because they grew up without the many ways of communicating that we as the younger

Harrington s Article Analysis
In Harrington s article, she mentioned a few key elements in resilience, and stated that having a vision
gives a sense of purpose and direction to one s life (Harrington, 2012, p.2). As I reflect upon that
statement, I thought about my own life. I thought about when I was a little girl, how I just knew I
wanted to be a police officer. As I grew older, I had many obstacles thrown my way and questioned
myself on many occasions if I still wanted to follow my dream or was it just a phase because I was so
fascinated with officers. I have had so many visions and accomplished many of my goals because I
had a purpose in life and I knew where I wanted to go. Once I had my mind set and focused on many
of my visions in life, I felt my purpose in life.

Becoming Members Of Society Analysis
In Becoming Members of Society Devor discusses how our childhood, our toys, and everything
around us has developed into a cognitive schema that establishes certain gender roles. He states that
from a young age, children start to develop their identities and gender roles. He later goes on to
explain how because of these gender roles that have been formed, the hierarchical pyramid is more
prominent in society. Women are seen as weak compared to men, forcing stereotypes on women as the
inferior while men are superior. In lieu of Living in Color, Michael Omi states that popular culture
leads to the racial beliefs that have been created and continued throughout history. Minority groups are
portrayed in various media such as television shows, films, and magazines as insignificant and
through this constant portrayal, the racial tensions between minority groups and majority groups have
magnified. Aaron H. Devor and Michael Omi are both exposing the society they lived in and we still
currently live in. Omi claims that we have assumed beliefs about racial minorities in concordance to
their worth, stemming from stereotypes that have surpassed generations. While on the other hand,
Devor analyzed stereotypes of gender, both looked at the unfair distribution of minority groups in
society. Overall, both attacked historical issues of inequality still present in society today and reached
the same conclusion through the use of various types of evidence as well as different types of modes

Some of the things that will be discussed are how photosynthesis and respiration are linked in order to

biological catalysts to increase or accelerate the rate of reactions. Energy, Metabolism, and Cells

2004). When energy is extracted from carbohydrates by organisms while there is no oxygen present is
Fermentation, according to (www.sci.uidaho.edu. 2008). Fermentation is generally used in many
ways.
2. In the absence of oxygen some cells and organisms can use glycolysis coupled to fermentation to
produce energy from the sugar created by photosynthesis. A. A number of organisms in the
nonexistence of oxygen from time to time go through a course of action described as fermentation.
Fermentation permits these organisms to create energy under anaerobic conditions according to
(www.sci.uidaho.edu. 2008).
B. In a biological system energy comes into as light or photons. Through cellular methods including
photosynthesis and respiration it is converted into chemical energy. Carbohydrates are developed
throughout the infusion of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Subsequently energy is stored in ATP
(adenosine triphosphate).
3. Cells use enzymes as biological catalysts to increase or accelerate the rate of reactions, such as
those in photosynthesis or glycolysis. This allows reactions to occur under conditions that sustain life.
A. Enzymes boost reaction rates by lessening the quality of energy necessary to form a compound of
reactants. Enzymes expedite the chemical reaction in living things. Without them, it would take a long
time for food to be digested and our bones and muscles would not work as well. The most preferred

Descriptive Essay On The Sea World
A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself
strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom,
my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there
multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her
being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that
dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge
mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding
these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying:
No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t
want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno,
sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she
bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at
my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once
in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag
will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on the legendary snack food
in what seems like decades.

The Holy Quran, Containing the Written Word of the...
The holy Quran is the highest authority in Islam. It contains the exact words of god written by his
prophet mohammed. Muslims rely on the Sunnah, the saying and actions, of a prophet. This sunnah is
an idea, in the words of God written by Muhammad s deeds. They were recorded in what are called
ahadith, which are news and, reports. Here is an english translation on what Muhammad reportedly
said to his companions, in his teachings. Numbers 1 20 are from Volumes 1 2, and have been quoted
from Riyadh Us Saleheen. Volumes 3 4 were recorded by An Nawawi s Forty Hadith. The basic
message of Islam can be summed up in the arabic expression La ilaha illa Allah , which translates to
No god but Allah: Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. The word Islam means submission, a muslim is
someone who submits to God. In submitting to god, muslims must accept the 5 pillars, also known as
the five pillars of Islam. The first pillar is muslims have to proclaim their belief in one god. Further,
they accept that God has revealed his message to Mohammed. Muslims honor many prophets
including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. To the Muslims, Mohammed is their most important prophet,
even though they honor Muhammad, they do not worship him as a God. The second pillar is prayer.
Muslims are expected to pray 5 times a day and face toward the holy mecca. The third pillar of Islam
is charity to the poor and to the aged. The Zakat is the third pillar of Islam. This basically means that

The Implantable Medical Device Industry
In the implantable medical devices industry, substitute products exist for some types but not all.
According to Michael Porter s Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and
Competitors , in order for a product to be a viable substitute, it must achieve similar function as the
product that it is replacing by a different means. Porter considers four categories for analyzing a
substitute: performance, cost of change, buyer inclination to substitute and price performance trade off
(Porter, 1998). When comparing medical therapies for coronary artery disease, musculoskeletal
disorders, degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors and fractures, the present day implantable medical
devices are a minimally invasive form of treatment than former ones. They are the new products and
services and there are not many direct substitutes besides generic products. In fact, many doctors
argue that medical therapy should be viewed as complementary rather than as an opposing strategy
(Blumenthal et al., 2000). In many cases, substitute products can be drugs prescribed to a patient in
lieu of an operation to implant a medical device. For example, with coronary artery disease, two
therapies are commonly used: stents (implantable devices) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
surgery. Differences between outcomes with stenting and with CABG are a point of controversy
(Hannan et al., 2008; Ryan et al., 2006). However, a recent study comparing the treatment outcomes of

Muda Saffir s The Monster Men
Everyone wants to be happy. Morals dictate on how one achieve their happiness and what that
happiness means to them. Some people give the priority of their happiness over the well being of
others and feel no remorse to the actions they have taken to become happy. By hurting others for one s
own gain, they become monsters rather than being men. One doesn t need to be evil to humans to be
considered a monster. The treatment that the monsters receive in Edgar Rice Burroughs The Monster
Men , perpetuates the theme that in this story men are the real monsters. There are times that men
make it obvious that they are monsters and will do terrible things no matter who is hurt. In the

It is a classic trope in all kinds of medias to portray the humans, or in this case von Horn, as the savior
and the hero of the story. In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the antagonist of the
story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans Are the Real Monster
). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster who only wanted to steal the
treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to go with him. In some cases the
antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and believe that they are in the right. In
The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that both von Horn and Number 13
wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle which is quite true in itself that in the
big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always
more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily,
and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than
the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort
to large scale falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls
for this big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing,
so when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and
his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story but
against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and eventually end
up being with her as a happy married couple. There are times that those who

The Decline Of Civility Within The Workplace
The question was asked, Do manners matter? The Golden Rule states: do to others what you would
want them to do to you. The decline of civility in the workplace has been on the rise. Morals are still
at the conclusion that this isn t at any value of importance (Martin). Society assumes that one is born
with etiquettes and not taught. Judith Martin states that the Original Innocence is the idea that people
are born naturally good but corrupted by civilization (Martin). According to the Merriam Webster
dictionary, the definition of civility is polite, reasonable, and respectful behavior. Incivility is an issue
for many. Researcher Jeannie Trudel of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion says that Seventy five
percent to eighty percent of people have experienced incivility (Mattice). Employees, bosses, and even
family members are affected by one s reaction to incivility. The lack of discipline and the absences of
manners is slowly creating a problem in today s work society due to need of communication (Martin).
Today s work society has targeted hate for one another. It is typically causing many to regret their
choice of profession; constantly, dreading the idea to perform to the expected. If we are going to
eliminate the cause of rude behavior and the effect of rude behavior in the workplace, each company
should evaluate their policy s, discuss proper expectations, and provide trainings. The cause of uncivil
actions can take a dramatic toll on any workplace.

Determination And Self Determination
Self Determination
Motivation plays a big role in a person s life. It allows you to set goals and build confidence.
However, a person is not born motivated, it is something you must find within yourself to achieve the
things you want to achieve. My subject is a twenty one year old female college soccer player. She has
played soccer since she was five years old. She grew up with many challenges on and off the field and
has still found a way to keep herself moving forward. I interviewed her about what motivates her and
dealing with obstacles that pop up.
The subject has a strong sense of autonomy and competence, but due to low relatedness, her sense of

Being an athlete, nutrition plays a major role in this person s program. When it comes to her body
weight, she regularly motivates herself to lose weight so she can be quicker and stronger to play her
position. This is where her autonomous motives help her see the value in her actions.
The interviewee s overall outcome is for her to reward herself by improving so she can earn more
playing time. Although her ultimate reward is starting in a game, she is happy just knowing she always
puts in great effort and gives it her all.
One obstacle the subject sometime faces is her confidence. When she is not motivated at a training
session, it frustrates her and she begins to temporarily lack motivation. This causes her to have
thoughts of making excuses to stop training. However, when the thought of making excuses appears,
she ignores them, finds the strength to push forward, and completes her tasks. Finishing tasks in
difficult circumstances reveals a strong intrinsic motivation on her part.
When it comes to feedback after a task, the interviewee is motivated in a different manner. She
completely disregards positive feedback, choosing to focus on critical comments for her mistakes. The
negative feedback pushes

Literary Elements In Rebecca Daphne Du Maurier
A resoundingly recurring theme found in contemporary Gothic literature is its overwhelming concern
and fascination with the idea of haunting its readers through frightening settings and macabre
characters. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, labeled as a modern Gothic novel, embodies and plays
homage to the motifs of Gothic horror found in its thematic predecessors by placing the themes of
death and duplicity at the forefront of its narrative structure. However, the central notion of who
haunts , and in particular how the novel handles this, becomes a pressing point of concern.
Conventionality would suggest the titular character, Rebecca, to explicitly haunt the other characters
over the course of the novel; yet never is the reader given a glimpse of her body living or deceased.
Rather, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as a Gothic novel would be incomplete without placing Manderley, the expansive estate of Maxim De
Winter, at the forefront of the novel s proceedings. Du Maurier uses her descriptions of Manderley as

Essay on he Meiji Restoration in Japan
In 1868, The Meiji Restoration in Japan begins as the Emperor Meiji oversees an era of rapid
modernization, creates a conscript army, and abolishes the samurai class ranking which has defined
order in Japan since the 1600 s. Education is reformed, a constitution is created; a parliament

Now realizing that Japan must play an international role in the world, they were united in looking
towards the West. They hoped to adapt western ideas while retaining the values of the East.
Government stability was crucial to this objective. In 1873 a new tax system provided a secure
revenue base and abolished the feudal land system. In 1877 the conscript army defeated a major
samurai revolt led by Saigo Takamori, a leading figure in the imperial restoration. Inflation reduced
the value of government revenues, and between 1881 and 1885 a rigorous deflation policy initiated by
Matsasukata Masayoshi stabilized the currency. The incredible speed of adaptation shown by the
change in systems allowed the Restoration to go smoother and faster, it gave the people incentives to
work towards a greater Japan, especially when all classes were equal.
The young Meiji government worked hard to balance production for domestic use as well as for
export. Protection for native industries was a prime consideration, but the new internationalists
understood the necessity for an accelerated industrial revolution in Japan. They were quick to adopt
western methods in heavy industries and in the processing of textiles. The foundations for some of the
great fortunes of Japan were laid in the early Meiji period, when the government, after nationalising
and developing such industries as shipbuilding, mining, railroads, electricity and silk

Notes on Nationalism- A2 Government and Politics
Nationalism
The nature of the nation and the differences between nations and states.
A nation can be defined as a group of people who consider themselves to have common circumstances
at birth. These common circumstances are strong enough for them to adopt collective goals based on
their national identity. Nationalism is therefore an emotional phenomenon felt by the people.
There are a number of typical circumstances of birth that may give rise to nationhood including
having a single common ancestor, a common historical experience, common culture, ethnic identity,
geographical proximity, religion, attachment to territory.
A state is a political reality. It either exists or it doesn t. In contrast to the concept of nation, it ... Show

Civic nationalism is much more inclusive as it s the citizenship which joins people, and citizenship
can be achieved by anyone. * Ethnic nationalism: nationhood is defined by language, religion,
customs and traditions. According to ethnic nationalists, it is not the state that creates the nation but
the nation, which creates the state. The glue that holds people together is not shared political rights,
but pre existing ethnic characteristics. Ethnic nationalism is more exclusive as it believes that not
everyone can become a part of a particular nation state.
The nation state and its alleged benefits
Maintains law and order within the territory
Secures the state against external threats
Develops and maintains useful relations with other states
Regulates the currency, the operation of markets and the economy in general.
Maintains the welfare of its people
Promotes economic and social progress
Protects and improves the physical environment of the country.
Relationship between nationalism and liberalism * Liberal nationalists demand that every recognisable
nation has the right to freedom from subjection to the rule of other nations and states. * Liberalism
demanded that every individual should be free, thus so should be every individual state. * The

line of the targets recur alternately at the end of other targets, and they are repeated at the close of the
ending quatrain. In this poem, Roethke uses a leaf as the speaker. There can raise various questions on
why the author came up with a conclusion of using a leaf to speak in the poem. It can be because the
leaf is a universal thing, simple and observes many things that happen in life. The poem is about
intelligence at the self level, and the author has used various mediums to bring out a message in each
stanza differently (Gale page 12). To start with, the first stanza, the author keeps it clear that in life one
has to acquire knowledge and be shaped by the experience. In reality, every person falls asleep at
some time of the day and wakes up. Furthermore, it is a fact that everyone was born and the end of
existing in the world will be dead. In this case, the act of birth and life can be referred as the waking,
and death shows the sleep. Theodore Roethke puts it clearly that it is a must for one to change in a

Effects Of Capital Punishment In The Hanging
An eye for an eye, a leg for a leg, and a life for a life? This form of punishment has been traditional
for centuries and still to this day. A life for a life is now sugarcoated with the name Capital
Punishment . Capital punishment is a legal punishment by death for committing a crime. It was
created in hopes that people would fear to commit a crime. Besides its intention, having capital
punishment has actually done the opposite. Statistics show that is not exactly the case. States with the
death penalty have higher murder rates than those who don t therefore, their system is flawed. Not
only that but, capital punishment actually costs more money than caring for prisoners. According to
Death Penalty Information Center Cases without the death penalty cost $740,000, while cases where
the death penalty is sought cost $1.26 million. Maintaining each death row prisoner costs taxpayers
$90,000 more per year than a prisoner in general population. More money is being wasted killing
people than sending them to jail for life. Then there s the psychological effect it leaves. The short story
The Hanging displays the detrimental effects of capital punishment. Capital punishment is inhumane.
The death penalty is a cruel and barbaric form of punishment that takes away the compassion and
mercy from humans. This is shown throughout the story. In The Hanging is said We were waiting

45% percent of the population living in this city is struggling to make ends meet (Durkin, 2017). This
problem has plunged the city into a dilemma as the nation struggles to wipe out poverty. Since the
recession in 2008, most of the adults in New York City are working on a full time basis to meet basic
needs. The city has been strained with increasing price of rent, high standards of living, and low
wages. Even though employment has been rising, the number of individuals living in poverty is
startling. Income inequality has contributed to the poverty situation in New York City. Poverty has
transformed many neighborhoods into crime and drug dens. This problem has become an uphill task

Birth Order and the Effect on Your Personality
Birth order and the effect it has on your personality
Some parents often wonder, what, if any, effect birth order will have on their children s personalities.
Genetic factors and other influences play a significannot role, but the birth order within the family
plays a larger role in determining the personality of children. Countless academic studies say your
place in the family is such a strong factor in developing your personality that it can have a major
influence on the rest of your life. Alfred Adler, an Austrian psychiatrist and former disciple of Freud,

parents as factors in the development of personality. But it was birth order ... Show more content on

It can cause a lot of stress on the child. Some of the solutions that Wallace suggested was to be alert to
the child s reaction when a new baby is brought home. Address the feelings that the child has about
the birth of the new sibling right then to prevent hostility, anger and resentment later on. Parents
should treat the kids equally, neither will feel resentment for the other nor be able to claim that one is
getting special treatment (Payton). Middle children are often left feeling like the odd one out, not
having the attachment to their parents that their older sibling has but also not being the baby of the
family, who gets the attention heaped on them. This often provokes attention seeking behavior and can
lead to depression or even paranoia in later life (Udall). Many middle children feel overshadowed by
their older and younger siblings. Their efforts to compensate often affect their personality
development ( Parenting Children ). With parents less available to them than to first born, middle
children seem to be more laid back in achievement and more relaxed. Sometimes they need to be
manipulative to satisfy their needs and are good diplomats and quite friendly ( Birth order and your
child ). The middle child tends to be a mediator and negotiator (Payton). The intensity of their struggle
for identity as a middle child will depend on the sex of the child. If

Essay On Dielectric Materials At C-Nanowires
Flexible nanodielectric materials with a high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss have immense
potential applications in the modern electronic and electric industry. The use of high aspect ratio fillers
is a promising route for achieving high dielectric constant and low loss materials at a low filler volume
fraction. However, the poor filler/matrix interfacial adhesion always imposes difficulties in
suppressing the dielectric loss of the composites, thus significantly limiting the potential of high
aspect ratio fillers in enhancing the dielectric constant of polymer composites. In this study, cable like
structured Ag@C nanowires with high aspect ratio ( 600) were prepared by a facile and
environmentally friendly approach. Because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to conventional ceramic based dielectric materials, polymer composites have many
advantages such as good flexibility, easy processability, lightweight, and low cost to meet demands for
miniaturization of microelectronics that has become a mainstream trend in microelectronic industry in
recent years. Thus, flexible polymer composites with a high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss
are highly desired and essential for practical application. In recent years, polymer composites with
dielectric constant have been prepared by two routes. The more traditional route is introducing high
dielectric constant ceramic fillers, such as BaTiO3, Pb(Zr,Ti)O3, and CaCu3Ti4O12 into the polymer
matrix. However, the high loading (usually over 50 vol%) of ceramic fillers required for enhancing
dielectric constant inevitably raises the issues of inhomogeneity and aggregation of the ceramic fillers
in the polymer matrix, deteriorating the characteristics resulting in poor mechanical properties such as
high dielectric loss. Furthermore, the dielectric enhancement is usually low. Another route focuses on
dispersing conductive fillers such as graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), conductive fibers, and metal
particles into the polymer matrix to achieve percolative systems. As the volume fraction of the
conductive fillers increases in the vicinity of the percolation threshold, where the conductive fillers
connect with each other to form a continuous conducting path, the

World Hunger Rough Draft
World hunger is a very serious issue in today s world, that is very stunning in a world full of resources

Chronic hunger derives from poverty, armed conflict, being poor, and environ mental overload. World
hunger has many causes, these causes eventually lead to chronic hunger. Far more people die from
causes related to chronic hunger than to famine. Chronically hungry people are exceptionally
vulnerable when famine strikes . This relates to the ancient Egyptian myth, The Seven Years Famine.

Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick Essay
Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick
One might think it a difficult task to find a tragic hero hidden in the pages of Moby Dick. Yet, there is
certainly potential for viewing Ahab as heroic despite unfavorable responses to him by the reader.
In the original formula coming from the Greeks, the tragic hero had to be a high born individual of
elevated status possessed of a fatal flaw which resulted in their downfall. With Othello Shakespeare
redefined elevated status to include position alone rather than being linked to societal or birth status.
In this way it was possible for Othello as the military leader to be the tragic hero despite being an
outsider in the composition of the society. Melville follows this example in Moby Dick. ... Show more

The flaw itself [is] a pride that challenges the very nature of things . . . (Millhauser 76). Ahab, deluded
by the prophecies of Fedallah, comes to view himself as immortal, able to overcome anything. Within
the dramatic tradition, the heroic idea of being above everything else is a recurring theme. Ahab s
flaw, akin to madness . . . involves equally Ahab s imposing spiritual stature and his inexorable fate
(Millhauser 76). Ahab is blinded by his pride which prevents him from seeing any other path of action
or alternative meanings for events that occur other than the one he chooses to fit with his
monomaniacal pursuit of Moby Dick.
These two areas of elevated position and a fatal character flaw as outlined by Millhauser and Melville,
within the novel itself, distinctly set Ahab off as a potentially heroic character. Ahab is driven to a
confrontation with his adversary by a force never clearly spelled out for the reader. However, much is
made of the loomings of fate in the lives of men. Further reference is made to the prophecy of
Fedallah. Because we pick up the story near the end (from Ahab s perspective), it is difficult to
ascertain his full motivations. Along with this fact, it becomes difficult to determine whether Ahab is
shaping or controlling his own destiny or not. Moby Dick is Ahab s nemesis. Again Melville is never
clear in spelling out how the white whale is to be interpreted.

Invasion or external compression can cause an SVC blockage. One way external compression can
occur is by the involvement of lymph nodes. When cancer is present in the body, there is a chance that
it can spread to surrounding lymph nodes. If this occurs, the lymph nodes can enlarge and compress
the SVC and cause an obstruction. Other ways external compression can occur are by the right lung,
other mediastinal structures, or by thrombosis of blood within the vein itself. As blood flow becomes
blocked, the blood from the upper body is unable to drain back into the heart correctly. These
collaterals provide an alternate pathway so the blood can ultimately reach the right atrium. Collateral
veins can originate from the azygos vein, lateral thoracic, inter mammary, and esophageal venous
systems. Over a time period of several weeks, the alternate pathways begin to dilate which results in
venous pressure in the upper body to elevate. By the venous pressure remaining elevated, signs and
symptoms will become noticeable. How quickly the signs and symptoms manifest is dependent upon
how fast the SVC becomes congested in relation to the formation of venous collaterals. Research
states that Patients with malignant disease may develop symptoms of SVC syndrome within weeks to
months because rapid tumor growth does not allow adequate time to develop collateral flow. (Drews

humanitarian rights and health of the people of Cuba. The embargo today places a ban on subsidiary
trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992, the Cuban
Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba. This ban restricted Cuba s ability to
import medicines and medical supplies from third country sources. There have also been corporate
buy outs and mergers between U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies thus adding to the
number of companies permitted to do business with Cuba. Under the Cuban Democracy Act, The U.S.
Treasury and Commerce Departments are allowed to license individual sales of medicines and
medical supplies, supposedly for humanitarian reasons to make up for the embargo s impact on health
care delivery. According to the U.S. corporate executives, the licensing provisions are so tough as to
have had the opposite effect. With this statement, it is assumed that there are fewer licenses given out
for humanitarian reason therefore favoring the embargo and aiding in the downfall of health in Cuba.

Deepwater Horizon Was An Offshore Drilling Rig
Deepwater Horizon was an offshore drilling rig built in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy
Industries. In September 2009, the rig drilled the deepest oil well in history with a vertical depth of
35,050 feet.
An unplanned flow of well fluids into the wellbore can be dangerous as it could cause a blowout
which would then cause a fire. In order to prevent this, driller s pump a drilling mud into the well,
creating a barrier between the undersea oil and gas and the rig. The safety of the drilling crew relies on
a piece of equipment placed on the top of the sea floor called the blowout preventer. This is essential
for controlling the well and in an emergency situation preventing a disaster on the platform high above
on the sea surface. The blowout preventer is connected to the rig by a large diameter pipe called a
riser. If a blowout occurs the blowout preventer is designed to prevent flammable oil and gas
travelling up the drilling rig.
At 8:45pm on April 20th 2010 a blowout occurred in the well. Oil and gas entered the wellbore
undetected, eventually passing above the blowout preventer. Quickly it made its way up the riser
towards the Deepwater Horizon and the 126 people on board. Just after 9:40 pm, drilling mud forced
upwards by the rising oil and gas suddenly blew out on the rig. Crew members responded by closing
the upper annular preventer. This did not work. They then tried to close a pipe ram. This successfully
closed the annular space and sealed the well but this

What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Human Greed
Human greed s and Weaknesses
Human Activities
1) Natural Defences
Plants and geologic features make up an ever present natural defines against flooding. Grasses, shrubs
and trees help keep healthy topsoil in place to absorb excess rainfall, and extensive root systems can
absorb some excess water before it overwhelms a region. Naturally occurring waterways, flood plains
and wetlands all serve as safety valves for floods, drawing high waters away and dispersing them
safely. Unfortunately, human activities can disrupt both of these systems, increasing the likelihood and
severity of floods.
2) Agriculture and Deforestation
Large scale agricultural operations can deplete topsoil, reducing the amount of nutrients present and
degrading its quality. This can lead to a weakening of the surrounding plant life, reducing its ability to
protect against floods. Similarly, deforestation can remove the anchors keeping rich soil in place,
allowing it to wash away and leaving dry, dusty soil in its place ill suited to absorbing heavy rainfall.
This increases the amount of water that washes into rivers and streams, adding to the volume that
passes through the water system and causing floods.
3) Human Development

solve the root causes of flooding which are humans and their activities. We need to put more emphasis

  • 2. Anne Frank Book Analysis Anne Frank, The Diary of a young girl, this book is about the ups and the downs of hiding in a secret annex. The book has quite a bit that people today can relate to, even though they are not in hiding. One of the main things in this book had difficult times. Each character had his or her own struggles. Anne and her mom do not get along and she does not get along with Dussel (her roommate) Anne s father, Otto Frank, is relaxed when things are calm but stressed when the place becomes tense. Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan are the people who have to have things their way, but when something goes wrong they panic. Living in secret seems very limited and stressful. They have different rules for each day and night, and when there are people are downstairs working because the workers do not know about the secret annex. Being locked up each person has different household jobs for each day and each family gets a limited number of food rations or food coupons. Some of the rules included; they get up at a quarter to seven and clean everything they slept on because the beds took up all of their days to day living space (Wednesday, 4 August, 1943), at half past twelve each person goes off to do his or her own thing because of the warehouse workers have left (Thursday, 5 August, 1943). Nowadays, people go insane because they are used to being able to communicate in many ways. Although the older would be fine because they grew up without the many ways of communicating that we as the younger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Harrington s Article Analysis In Harrington s article, she mentioned a few key elements in resilience, and stated that having a vision gives a sense of purpose and direction to one s life (Harrington, 2012, p.2). As I reflect upon that statement, I thought about my own life. I thought about when I was a little girl, how I just knew I wanted to be a police officer. As I grew older, I had many obstacles thrown my way and questioned myself on many occasions if I still wanted to follow my dream or was it just a phase because I was so fascinated with officers. I have had so many visions and accomplished many of my goals because I had a purpose in life and I knew where I wanted to go. Once I had my mind set and focused on many of my visions in life, I felt my purpose in life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Becoming Members Of Society Analysis In Becoming Members of Society Devor discusses how our childhood, our toys, and everything around us has developed into a cognitive schema that establishes certain gender roles. He states that from a young age, children start to develop their identities and gender roles. He later goes on to explain how because of these gender roles that have been formed, the hierarchical pyramid is more prominent in society. Women are seen as weak compared to men, forcing stereotypes on women as the inferior while men are superior. In lieu of Living in Color, Michael Omi states that popular culture leads to the racial beliefs that have been created and continued throughout history. Minority groups are portrayed in various media such as television shows, films, and magazines as insignificant and through this constant portrayal, the racial tensions between minority groups and majority groups have magnified. Aaron H. Devor and Michael Omi are both exposing the society they lived in and we still currently live in. Omi claims that we have assumed beliefs about racial minorities in concordance to their worth, stemming from stereotypes that have surpassed generations. While on the other hand, Devor analyzed stereotypes of gender, both looked at the unfair distribution of minority groups in society. Overall, both attacked historical issues of inequality still present in society today and reached the same conclusion through the use of various types of evidence as well as different types of modes ... Fermentation is generally used in many ways. 2. In the absence of oxygen some cells and organisms can use glycolysis coupled to fermentation to produce energy from the sugar created by photosynthesis. A. A number of organisms in the nonexistence of oxygen from time to time go through a course of action described as fermentation. Fermentation permits these organisms to create energy under anaerobic conditions according to (www.sci.uidaho.edu. 2008). B. In a biological system energy comes into as light or photons. Through cellular methods including photosynthesis and respiration it is converted into chemical energy. Carbohydrates are developed throughout the infusion of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Subsequently energy is stored in ATP (adenosine triphosphate). 3. Cells use enzymes as biological catalysts to increase or accelerate the rate of reactions, such as those in photosynthesis or glycolysis. This allows reactions to occur under conditions that sustain life. A. Enzymes boost reaction rates by lessening the quality of energy necessary to form a compound of reactants. • 7. Descriptive Essay On The Sea World A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom, my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying: No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t want the only teenager to be riding Big Bird s Ferris Wheel any more. It came out like this: Yeahno, sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she bribed me with Hot Cheetos. I love Hot Cheetos more than anything. Sadly, finding any snack food at my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. Muslims rely on the Sunnah, the saying and actions, of a prophet. This sunnah is an idea, in the words of God written by Muhammad s deeds. They were recorded in what are called ahadith, which are news and, reports. Here is an english translation on what Muhammad reportedly said to his companions, in his teachings. Numbers 1 20 are from Volumes 1 2, and have been quoted from Riyadh Us Saleheen. Volumes 3 4 were recorded by An Nawawi s Forty Hadith. The basic message of Islam can be summed up in the arabic expression La ilaha illa Allah , which translates to No god but Allah: Muhammad is the prophet of Allah. The word Islam means submission, a muslim is someone who submits to God. In submitting to god, muslims must accept the 5 pillars, also known as the five pillars of Islam. The first pillar is muslims have to proclaim their belief in one god. Further, they accept that God has revealed his message to Mohammed. Muslims honor many prophets including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. To the Muslims, Mohammed is their most important prophet, even though they honor Muhammad, they do not worship him as a God. The second pillar is prayer. Muslims are expected to pray 5 times a day and face toward the holy mecca. • 9. The Implantable Medical Device Industry In the implantable medical devices industry, substitute products exist for some types but not all. According to Michael Porter s Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors , in order for a product to be a viable substitute, it must achieve similar function as the product that it is replacing by a different means. Porter considers four categories for analyzing a substitute: performance, cost of change, buyer inclination to substitute and price performance trade off (Porter, 1998). When comparing medical therapies for coronary artery disease, musculoskeletal disorders, degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors and fractures, the present day implantable medical devices are a minimally invasive form of treatment than former ones. They are the new products and services and there are not many direct substitutes besides generic products. In fact, many doctors argue that medical therapy should be viewed as complementary rather than as an opposing strategy (Blumenthal et al., 2000). In many cases, substitute products can be drugs prescribed to a patient in lieu of an operation to implant a medical device. For example, with coronary artery disease, two therapies are commonly used: stents (implantable devices) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Differences between outcomes with stenting and with CABG are a point of controversy (Hannan et al., 2008; Ryan et al., 2006). However, a recent study comparing the treatment outcomes of all ... In the end of the story it is made clear that man is really the antagonist of the story and the force he is fighting, or Number 13, is the one suffering. ( Humans Are the Real Monster ). Despite Carl von Horn s previous actions, he was actually a monster who only wanted to steal the treasure and have Virginia to himself, even if she did not want to go with him. In some cases the antagonist does not realise that they are in fact the bad guy and believe that they are in the right. In The Monster Men, von Horn tells a lie to Number 13 that both von Horn and Number 13 wholeheartedly believed. All this was inspired by the principle which is quite true in itself that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they are more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large scale falsehoods. ( Adolf Hitler s words in German with English translation ). Number 13 falls for this big lie that von Horn tells because he doesn t particularly know about immoralities like lieing, so when von Horn tells him that Virginia, who has not met him at this point, is disgusted by him and his very existence he believes it. This big lie pulls at Number 13 s conscious throughout the story but against his better judgement he is able to ignore it and pursue his love for Virginia and eventually end up being with her as a happy married couple. The decline of civility in the workplace has been on the rise. Morals are still at the conclusion that this isn t at any value of importance (Martin). Society assumes that one is born with etiquettes and not taught. Judith Martin states that the Original Innocence is the idea that people are born naturally good but corrupted by civilization (Martin). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of civility is polite, reasonable, and respectful behavior. Incivility is an issue for many. Researcher Jeannie Trudel of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion says that Seventy five percent to eighty percent of people have experienced incivility (Mattice). Employees, bosses, and even family members are affected by one s reaction to incivility. The lack of discipline and the absences of manners is slowly creating a problem in today s work society due to need of communication (Martin). Today s work society has targeted hate for one another. It is typically causing many to regret their choice of profession; constantly, dreading the idea to perform to the expected. Literary Elements In Rebecca Daphne Du Maurier A resoundingly recurring theme found in contemporary Gothic literature is its overwhelming concern and fascination with the idea of haunting its readers through frightening settings and macabre characters. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, labeled as a modern Gothic novel, embodies and plays homage to the motifs of Gothic horror found in its thematic predecessors by placing the themes of death and duplicity at the forefront of its narrative structure. However, the central notion of who haunts , and in particular how the novel handles this, becomes a pressing point of concern. In 1877 the conscript army defeated a major samurai revolt led by Saigo Takamori, a leading figure in the imperial restoration. Inflation reduced the value of government revenues, and between 1881 and 1885 a rigorous deflation policy initiated by Matsasukata Masayoshi stabilized the currency. However, the high loading (usually over 50 vol%) of ceramic fillers required for enhancing dielectric constant inevitably raises the issues of inhomogeneity and aggregation of the ceramic fillers in the polymer matrix, deteriorating the characteristics resulting in poor mechanical properties such as high dielectric loss. Furthermore, the dielectric enhancement is usually low. Another route focuses on dispersing conductive fillers such as graphene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), conductive fibers, and metal particles into the polymer matrix to achieve percolative systems. As the volume fraction of the conductive fillers increases in the vicinity of the percolation threshold, where the conductive fillers connect with each other to form a continuous conducting path, the ... • 30. Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick Essay Ahab as the Hero of Moby Dick One might think it a difficult task to find a tragic hero hidden in the pages of Moby Dick. Yet, there is certainly potential for viewing Ahab as heroic despite unfavorable responses to him by the reader. In the original formula coming from the Greeks, the tragic hero had to be a high born individual of elevated status possessed of a fatal flaw which resulted in their downfall. With Othello Shakespeare redefined elevated status to include position alone rather than being linked to societal or birth status. In this way it was possible for Othello as the military leader to be the tragic hero despite being an outsider in the composition of the society. Melville follows this example in Moby Dick. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flaw itself [is] a pride that challenges the very nature of things . . . (Millhauser 76). Ahab, deluded by the prophecies of Fedallah, comes to view himself as immortal, able to overcome anything. Within the dramatic tradition, the heroic idea of being above everything else is a recurring theme. Ahab s flaw, akin to madness . . . involves equally Ahab s imposing spiritual stature and his inexorable fate (Millhauser 76). Ahab is blinded by his pride which prevents him from seeing any other path of action or alternative meanings for events that occur other than the one he chooses to fit with his monomaniacal pursuit of Moby Dick. These two areas of elevated position and a fatal character flaw as outlined by Millhauser and Melville, within the novel itself, distinctly set Ahab off as a potentially heroic character. Ahab is driven to a confrontation with his adversary by a force never clearly spelled out for the reader. However, much is made of the loomings of fate in the lives of men. Further reference is made to the prophecy of Fedallah. Because we pick up the story near the end (from Ahab s perspective), it is difficult to ascertain his full motivations. Along with this fact, it becomes difficult to determine whether Ahab is shaping or controlling his own destiny or not. Moby Dick is Ahab s nemesis. Again Melville is never clear in spelling out how the white whale is to be interpreted. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One way external compression can occur is by the involvement of lymph nodes. When cancer is present in the body, there is a chance that it can spread to surrounding lymph nodes. If this occurs, the lymph nodes can enlarge and compress the SVC and cause an obstruction. Other ways external compression can occur are by the right lung, other mediastinal structures, or by thrombosis of blood within the vein itself. As blood flow becomes blocked, the blood from the upper body is unable to drain back into the heart correctly. These collaterals provide an alternate pathway so the blood can ultimately reach the right atrium. Collateral veins can originate from the azygos vein, lateral thoracic, inter mammary, and esophageal venous systems. Over a time period of several weeks, the alternate pathways begin to dilate which results in venous pressure in the upper body to elevate. By the venous pressure remaining elevated, signs and symptoms will become noticeable. How quickly the signs and symptoms manifest is dependent upon how fast the SVC becomes congested in relation to the formation of venous collaterals. Research states that Patients with malignant disease may develop symptoms of SVC syndrome within weeks to months because rapid tumor growth does not allow adequate time to develop collateral flow. The embargo today places a ban on subsidiary trade, Licensing, shipping and humanitarian aid. (Close Up Foundation) In 1992, the Cuban Democracy act imposed a ban on subsidiary trade with Cuba. This ban restricted Cuba s ability to import medicines and medical supplies from third country sources. There have also been corporate buy outs and mergers between U.S. and European pharmaceutical companies thus adding to the number of companies permitted to do business with Cuba. Under the Cuban Democracy Act, The U.S. Treasury and Commerce Departments are allowed to license individual sales of medicines and medical supplies, supposedly for humanitarian reasons to make up for the embargo s impact on health care delivery. According to the U.S. corporate executives, the licensing provisions are so tough as to have had the opposite effect. With this statement, it is assumed that there are fewer licenses given out for humanitarian reason therefore favoring the embargo and aiding in the downfall of health in Cuba. • 40. Deepwater Horizon Was An Offshore Drilling Rig Deepwater Horizon was an offshore drilling rig built in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries. In September 2009, the rig drilled the deepest oil well in history with a vertical depth of 35,050 feet. An unplanned flow of well fluids into the wellbore can be dangerous as it could cause a blowout which would then cause a fire. In order to prevent this, driller s pump a drilling mud into the well, creating a barrier between the undersea oil and gas and the rig. The safety of the drilling crew relies on a piece of equipment placed on the top of the sea floor called the blowout preventer. This is essential for controlling the well and in an emergency situation preventing a disaster on the platform high above on the sea surface. The blowout preventer is connected to the rig by a large diameter pipe called a riser. If a blowout occurs the blowout preventer is designed to prevent flammable oil and gas travelling up the drilling rig. At 8:45pm on April 20th 2010 a blowout occurred in the well. Oil and gas entered the wellbore undetected, eventually passing above the blowout preventer. Quickly it made its way up the riser towards the Deepwater Horizon and the 126 people on board. Just after 9:40 pm, drilling mud forced upwards by the rising oil and gas suddenly blew out on the rig. Crew members responded by closing the upper annular preventer. This did not work. They then tried to close a pipe ram. This successfully closed the annular space and sealed the well but this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. What Are The Strengths And Weaknesses Of Human Greed Human greed s and Weaknesses Human Activities 1) Natural Defences Plants and geologic features make up an ever present natural defines against flooding. Grasses, shrubs and trees help keep healthy topsoil in place to absorb excess rainfall, and extensive root systems can absorb some excess water before it overwhelms a region. Naturally occurring waterways, flood plains and wetlands all serve as safety valves for floods, drawing high waters away and dispersing them safely. Unfortunately, human activities can disrupt both of these systems, increasing the likelihood and severity of floods. 2) Agriculture and Deforestation Large scale agricultural operations can deplete topsoil, reducing the amount of nutrients present and degrading its quality. This can lead to a weakening of the surrounding plant life, reducing its ability to protect against floods. Similarly, deforestation can remove the anchors keeping rich soil in place, allowing it to wash away and leaving dry, dusty soil in its place ill suited to absorbing heavy rainfall. This increases the amount of water that washes into rivers and streams, adding to the volume that passes through the water system and causing floods. 3) Human Development Rural and urban ...
