Essay on Immortality and Myth in The Age of Innocence
Immortality and Myth in The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton s books are considered, by some,
merely popular fiction of her time. But we must be careful not to equate popularity with the value of
the fiction; i.e., we must not assume that if her books are popular, they are also primitive. Compared to
the works of her contemporary and friend, Henry James, whose books may seem complex and
sometimes bewildering; Wharton s The Age of Innocence appears to be a simplistic, gossipy
commentary of New York society during the last decade of the 19th century*. Instead, it is one man s
struggle with the questions of mortality and immortality. Wharton s characters, settings and the
minutiae of social rituals, manners, speech habits, dress and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Urns and wall paintings tell us about the mythical characters predilection for a sensual life; this
compares to Wharton s characters penchant for their own hedonistic life of carousing, sexual cavorting
and dizzy social calendars of parties and operas. The Greeks, mythical and real, were masters of
architecture and decoration, which to this day, attest to their immortality. Wharton pays great attention
to the mansions and embellishments of the New York houses. Her society attempts to be immortal in
its own buildings; and by amassing ornate bits and bobbles from ages past and paintings and
decorations, the society feels it will live on forever: Then the house had been boldly planned with a
ball room, so that, instead of squeezing through a narrow passage to get to it (as at the Chiverses ) one
marched solemnly down a vista of enfiladed drawing rooms (the sea green, the crimson and the botron
d or), seeing from afar the many candled lustres reflected in the polished parquetry, and beyond that
the depths of a conservatory where camellias and tree ferns arched their costly foliage over seats of
black and gold Bamboo.
Wharton s characters, albeit mortal beings, are made immortal and some can even be compared with
mythical characters. We ll begin with the lesser characters. Newland Archer s sister, Janey who: was

Pollution Prevention ( P2 )
Introduction
Pollution is the contamination of air, soil, or water by the release of harmful substances. Pollution
prevention (P2) is to diminish or eradicate the pollutant at the source, for source reduction, (e.g. the
dry cleaning and hydraulic fracturing industries). P2 happens when raw materials, water, energy and
other resources are utilized more efficiently, when less harmful substances are substituted for
hazardous ones, and when toxic substances are eliminated from the production process (Ashby, 2013).
Dry Cleaning Points
According to Sinshelmer, Grout, Namkoong, Gottlieb, Latif (2007), states that 85% of all dry cleaners
operating within the United States uses Perchloroethylene (PCE) as the foremost cleaning agent in the

Sinshelmer, Grout, Namkoong, Gottlieb, Latif (2007), states that the Professional Wet Cleaning

Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Developed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, Cognitive Therapy (CT), or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), is a
form of psychotherapy in which the therapist and the client work together as a team to identify and
solve problems. Therapists help clients to overcome their difficulties by changing their thinking,
behavior, and emotional responses.
A System of Psychotherapy
Cognitive therapy is a comprehensive system of psychotherapy, and treatment is based on an
elaborated and empirically supported theory of psychopathology and personality. It has been found to
be effective in more than 400 outcome studies for a myriad of psychiatric disorders, including
depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse, ... Show more content on

The Goal of Cognitive Therapy
The goals of cognitive therapy are to help individuals achieve a remission of their disorder and to
prevent relapse. Much of the work in sessions involves aiding individuals in solving their real life
problems and teaching them to modify their distorted thinking, dysfunctional behavior, and distressing
affect. Therapists plan treatment on the basis of a cognitive formulation of patients disorders and an
ongoing individualized cognitive conceptualization of patients and their difficulties. A developmental
framework is used to understand how life events and experiences led to the development of core
beliefs, underlying assumptions, and coping strategies, particularly in patients with personality
disorders.
A strong therapeutic alliance is a key feature of cognitive therapy. Therapists are collaborative and
function as a team with patients. They provide rationales and seek patients agreement when
undertaking interventions. They make mutual decisions about how time will be spent in a session,
which problems will be discussed, and which homework assignments patients believe will be helpful.
They engage patients in a process of collaborative empiricism to investigate the validity of the patient
s thoughts and beliefs.
Cognitive therapy is educative, and patients are taught cognitive, behavioral, and emotional regulation
skills so they can, in essence, become their own therapists. This allows

Air Pollution And Its Effects On Health
Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. All aerobic biological
system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis
et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More
specifically, air pollution has been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and
abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulate matter, chemical
substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye.
Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious
health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute
and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological
studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of
this paper is to discuss particulate matter and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate
matter is particle air pollution that consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012).
This particle pollution, also known as PM, is constructed of inhalable coarse particles as well as fine
course particles. These particles consist of various sizes, which are unequivocally connected to
causations of health ailments. The inhalable course particles (PM10) have

The Taming Of The Shrew Analysis
Performing Marriage with a Difference: Wooing, Wedding, and Bedding in The Taming of the Shrew
Amy L. Smith Even before the recent burgeoning of performance theory, The Taming of the Shrew
was of great interest to critics interested in role playing , identity, and theatricality. And because Kate s
taming and her performative speech both take place in a play within a play, Taming fostered a critical
interest in the intersection between performance and gender long before the phrase gender trouble
became commonplace. The recent debates about performance, culture, and theater sparked in part by
Judith Butler suggest, however, that it is time to revisit our analysis of gender and performance in this
play. Although there are a number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ramer, they dramatize a marriage that leaves Kate and Petruchio negotiating not only gender
hierarchies but also love, sexuality, and parental demands. The Turning s particular reiteration of
marriage enacts a series of negotiations for power, none of which results in a marriage based on
simple domination and submission or perfect egalitarianism. By exaggerating husbandly dominance,
for example, Petruchio s performance draws our attention not to the power inherent in such dominance
but rather to its inefficacy. Thereby a conception of marriage that expects hierarchy and mutuality to
coincide effortlessly is questioned. Kate emphasizes the room marriage leaves for maneuverability by
enacting one that incorporates her wit and sexuality into her very performances of submission. Thus by
thinking of marriage (andthefemalesubjectionitrequires) as performative, we can read Kate s agency
through her reiteration of the role of wife a reiteration that stresses her reshaping of Petruchio and
their marriage. By using performance theory to contend that gendered institutions such as marriage
can and do change, I suggest that the very institutions which some critics suggest Kate is forced either
to accept or to escape are instead critiqued and perhaps even shaped by her.4 Indeed, one of the
reasons that the field of performance studies is so prevalent today and has so much to offer our
readings of this play is

Dr Pio Research Paper
Padre Pio was born in Italy on May 25, 1887. His family was very poor but taught him great values of
life. At a young age, Padre Pio proved he was devoted to God. At the age of five, he dedicated his life
to God. From early in his childhood, he showed a tremendous recollection of spirit and a love for
religious life around him. He was once described as a young boy who loved to go to church and to
pray. He was able to see and communicate with his guardian angel, Jesus, and the Virgin Mary. In his
simplicity, Francesco assumed everyone had the same experiences. When he was fifteen years old, he
was admitted to the novitiate of the Capuchin Order of the Friars Minor in Morcone, Italy. On August
10, 1910, at the age of twenty three, Padre Pio was ordained to the priesthood. Due to the long pauses

sinners and for the souls in Purgatory. This desire has been growing continually in my heart so that it

Pio died on September 23, 1968. He died with his Rosary in his hands. His last words were Gesú,
Maria. He had often proclaimed, After my death I will do more. My real mission will begin after my
death. The influence he had been among the church would be enough for most, but Padre Pio thought
he could do more. His prayer life was maybe the greatest of all saints. His day began at 2:30 a.m.
when he would begin his prayers and prepare for Mass. Between Mass and confessions, his workday

Analysis Of The Poem The World Is Too Much With Us
The poem, The World Is Too Much with Us by William Wordsworth argues that people s disregard for
nature s importance makes them lose their humanity. Wordsworth sees materialism as a waste of our
powers (359). Our powers of being able to keep in touch with a fundamental part of themselves. To
preserve and see the beauty of nature. Instead of building upon it. The start of the Industrialization in
Britain brought factories, buildings, and a newly built world. This shifted the focus from living from
nature to living away from it. Wordsworth explains it as, getting and spending, we lay waste our
powers: little we see in nature that is ours (359). Nature has become a separate existence from the one
that had been created by industrialization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which quickly spread and became all consuming. The social changes that were taking place brought a
new attitude. Gone was the slow moving life of rural living replaced by urban living. Urbanization
gave an urgency to the people. An attitude of greed for more growth, production, and spending. It
made many jobs, but it also left many unemployed. This was due to hiring unskilled workers for cheap
and leaving skilled workers still searching for jobs. Leaving many lower class people unsatisfied and
living in an increasingly dismal conditions. These negative changes left Wordsworth dispirited. He
understood the importance of enjoying the outside world away from these dismal conditions. To enjoy
views such as the sea that bares her bosom to the moon or the winds that will be howling at all hours .
Views that give peace and comfort. Away from the growing materialistic attitude of Britain society.
This newly embraced capitalist mode of production, which flourished under a rhetoric of improvement
(27), gave more trouble than improvement. Starting from the factories, the attitude of instant
gratification spread to the citizens. Needs and wants were met easily when the money was there. The
joys of going outside were to purchase a new item or to see how much the city had

Symbols In Macbeth Essay
The final act of Shakespeare s Macbeth is the culmination of the entire play, and Shakespeare uses
heavy symbolism to portray the final ideas of this tragedy. In the first scene, it is revealed that Lady
Macbeth has been sleepwalking, an expression of her anxiety. However, the Doctor asks How came
she by that light (i. 23) and why she rubs // her hands (i. 28 29). Throughout the play, Lady Macbeth
has been wrought with guilt because of Duncan s death. Now, she has an ever burning candle always
at her side. This candle represents her state of mind, with the lit wick her guilt that constantly eats
away at her. Additionally, she rubs her hands because, in her state of dream, she is washing them to
wash the blood off. These images were used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...Come sir, dispatch. ... again. Pull t off it, I say. (iii. 60 66). Each line break is a break of the poetry
and symbolic of the unraveling of Macbeth. Additionally, while Macbeth unravels, he asks his servant
Seyton, an allusion in his own rite, to put on and take off his armor multiple times, a verbal indication
of this disorder. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the division of the scenes
is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into scenes, the constant
change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer scenes from the rest of
the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of Macbeth is the ultimate symbol
within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the night (except for Young Siward)
and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the time of the final battle, the sun, a
symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat. This moment culminates the conflicts
of evil and good, night and day, Macbeth and Scotland, and restores the order to the chain of being.
Though this dynamic symbolism, Macbeth brings an end to Macbeth and his regime, restoring peace

Perseverance In Touching Spirit Bear
Perseverance Perseverance is a hard task to master, but it will help you in the long run. When it comes
to this you must continue to believe in yourself no matter what happens; you can t give up. In Ben
Michaelsen s novel Touching Spirit Bear, as Cole lies near death, he creates goals that he will have to
work toward. In part one of the novel Cole Matthews robs a hardware store, later on he figures out that
Peter Driscal, someone who goes to his school, told the police of Cole s actions. You re a dead man, he

there was no control, no anger, no one to blame, no choices, no nothing. To be alive was to have
choice. The power to choose was real power, not fake power of making others afraid (Mikaelsen 83).
After the attack, when Cole gets banished to the island for the second time, Cole doesn t laze around
after Garvey and Edwin leave. Cole drove himself hard after Edwin and Garvey left, staying busy
every waking minute of each day. If he had to spend a whole year on this island, he had no intention of
living like an animal. Each morning, he soaked in the pond and carried the ancestor rock. Afternoons,
he worked improving camp (Mikaelsen 177). This demonstrates that he pushes himself so he can get
off the island and probably try to change his reputation from a mean and scary boy to a changed boy.
At the end of the novel it s easy to tell that Cole has changed a lot and this is an example that he has

A Summary Of Trauma
Devastating effects, harboring memories, mental and emotional distress lingered with a victim long
after the traumatic experience. Children can lose the ability to control their behaviors and emotions
due to traumatic triggers. Children who have experience trauma develop implicit memories. Robin
Grill (2003) described these memories as, What we don t remember with our minds, we remember
with our bodies, with or hearts and our guts with lasting implications for our thinking, feeling, and
behavior (p. 1). Many of these subconscious memories and feelings are difficult to put into words. It is
imperative for social workers and teachers to use nonverbal methods to communicate with children
and students of trauma. Many children do not have the appropriate vocabulary to articulate feelings or

Teachers must become aware and address fulfilling a child s physiological and safety needs. The next
step is to use methods and techniques that allow children to open up, communicate, and express
themselves and their traumatic experiences. Past psychologists and therapists have used art to explore
the trauma of children, helped children discuss and deal with emotional distress, and build rapport and
empathy with patients (Kuban, 2015). Today, art is used as a tool for assessing children s emotional,
behavioral, and social development, as well as therapy to analyze and communicate traumatic
experiences. Through the creative process, children are able to make sense of their world. Art is one of
the first ways a child expresses themselves, they are familiar and comfortable with the methods of art

Summary Of How To Touch A Bleeding Dog
Love can often cause people to adjust their lifestyle to another person s. How to Touch a Bleeding
Dog shows how a guy who once had a wife that he loved took care of one of her most precious
possessions. It s safe to say the average human being doesn t have to have mutual friendship (a
human) with the dog in order to like him/her. In this case however the main character from this short
story says that the dog is not his, but is his responsibility. This responsibility seemed to fall to him due
to the passing of his wife. One could even say he seems disconnected from the world from the
relationship that is seen between him and his dog. The dogs passing could be seen as a metaphor for
the Beth leaving her husband on his own to provide for himself, to take care of any possessions she
may have had, and to fight his depression alone. The main character is now having feelings of
loneliness and depression. The first paragraph states that inside is warm , and outside is cold , This
could be tied as symbolism of the fact that he is secluding himself from the world. When the dog
passed away the main character said that it s not my dog, but it s my responsibility , this can make the
reader think of all of the other responsibilities that the main character was left with. There are
definitely some parallels between the dog and Beth. They both end up being burdens on the main
character and leaving behind more for him to deal with. After the dog passes away the main character
says the blood on the carpet of the car is out of sight, and I will pretend it isn t there. And then there s
the touch. The touch can be seen as how the dog emotionally affected him by passing away. The dog
did bring sadness to the main characters life due to the memories the main character seemed to have
when he interacted with the dog. I watched my hand volunteer itself and run its finger through the nap
of his head . The way this sentence is put together makes it sound as if his caring for the dog was an
involuntary action. One would think that if the pet had a close connection to a person, and that person
has passed away that someone who misses the person that has passed may use the pet to help with the
loss. The main character s

being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual revolution. Ten days and nights of freight trains
and hitchhiking bring him to the great white North (Into the Wild 163). In order to get around, he
walked or hitchhiked for rides with strangers. He even changed his name to Alex to escape his past.
Alex was not fully prepared for what experiences laid ahead and did not think too thoroughly about
this journey he was taking. A hundred miles out of Fairbanks the highway begins to climb into the
foothills of the Alaska Range. As the truck lurched over a bridge across the Nenana River, Alex looked
down at the swift current and remarked that he was afraid of the water (Krakauer, Into the Wild 5).
Alex did not think thoroughly about this because he was scared of water and Alaska is surrounded by
water. It gave him an added challenged. During this journey he faced problems of food. He began
eating plants. One of them was poisonous and could ultimately kill him. In the final moments of his
life he was miserable because he was suffering, and had nothing left but the realization of what he had

and his people. With the loss of the invasion for America, came the solidification of power for Castro.
Castro became a hero to his people, as the emergence of America as a foreign threat rallied the Cuban
people behind Castro.
After the invasion Castro and his army captured roughly 1100 men of the American protected Brigade
2506. In the late spring of 1961 Castro wanted to make a deal with the US, exchanging the prisoners
for a ransom. Initially Castro requested agricultural equipment and 500 caterpillar type tractors , that
were essentially bulldozers at a value of $28 million. The American government offered Castro much
cheaper tractors valued at $17 million, which Castro found insulting. He told the Americans there
would be no deal. Nearly a year later at the end of March, 1962 Castro put the men of Brigade 2506

Comparing Becoming Disabled And The Disremembered
In the two articles, Becoming Disabled by Rosemarie Garland Thompson and The Disremembered by
Charles Leadbeater, both authors write about the differently abled throughout society. Garland
Thompson and Leadbeater both want the differently abled community to be treated more appropriately
in society by delivering evidence through depicting a specific audience and providing details of their
own personal lives to better the differently abled community. Both Garland Thompson and Leadbeater
are writing to describe how to communicate to an audience that is unfamiliar with the subject of
differently abled people. Garland Thompson talks about how people with disability should be
identified (4). For decades, people haven t acknowledged what to call ... Show more content on

Garland Thompson herself is disabled so she understands the struggles people are going through when
she articulates, Because I was born with six fingers altogether and one quite short arm, I learned to get
through the world with the body I had from the beginning (Garland Thompson 3). Garland Thompson
is someone who is an example of being physically disabled. She cannot do everything that the
physically able can do and she embraces that. If one allows disability to stop them from achieving
their dreams, then that disability has conquered them. Leadbeater has dealt with a similar life not as
someone with a disability, but instead someone who has witnessed someone close go through it.
Leadbeater s mother in law, who has dementia, has affected his understanding of how crippling
dementia can be when he pronounces, My mother in law s narrative of herself has narrowed (9).
Leadbeater s mother in law can no longer fully remember her life, but only certain parts that have
come to define her. People like this need to be treated with a patient attitude. A lot of the time, people
affected by dementia will just recite certain things about their lives and forget the rest. This requires
the caretaker of that person to be understanding and realize that the person they once knew hasn t
changed, but rather his/her mind is forgetting memories but not losing them. Leadbeater does a good
job when doing his own research about the topic of dementia. He talks about that when studying
Baldwin van Gorp s opinions on dementia that Gorp has a good point when talking about that people
should do daily mental and physical exercises so that one s mind can stay fit because down the road,
that could make dementia more tolerable (Leadbeater 3). Leadbeater s research on the subject of

A Research Study On Bottlenose Dolphins
Bottlenose dolphins are among the most familiar cetaceans, just as whales. The Bottlenose dolphin is a
primitive member of the subfamily Delphinine. Bottlenose dolphins are grey, varying from dark grey
at the top near the dorsal fin to very light grey and almost white at the underside. There are two
ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins the coastal and the offshore. The Coastal dolphin has a small body and
large flippers to increase agility and heat dissipation. They have a limited movement into offshore
waters and like shallow warm water near the shore. Coastal dolphins for the most part remain in their
region. The Offshore dolphin has a large body to help conserve heat and defend itself against
predators. They are less restricted in range and movement and like deep, cold waters. Offshore
dolphins in the North Atlantic have migratory patterns that follow prey distribution. Bottlenose
dolphins live in groups typically of 10 30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single
individuals up to more than 1,000. In a case study performed by Randall Wells who is the leader of the
longest study of dolphin population since 1970, it was discovered that there are three main factors that
influence migration: Seasonal changes in prey location, predation pressure and reproductive
requirements. (Wells, 1980). In the fall dolphins follow mullet fish when they migrate from the bays
into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. Dolphins experience the most predation pressure during the
summer when

ABC and the Australian Multimedia Industry
As the ABC is an organisation heavily involved within the Australian Multimedia Industry, the tools
and equipment used are integral to the quality of the content produced. For different areas of
production, the tools and equipment used will differ, for example, when working in television,
equipment would include a set, cameras, tripods, microphones, props, lighting, video monitors and
teleprompter. To edit and deliver good quality television content, the department would use various
editing tools and software s during post production focusing on almost all areas of audience
experience such as visuals and audio. Some of these tools include Photoshop, Adobe After Effects,
Flash and Computer generated imagery (CGI). When working with radio, the equipment needed to
produce a podcast or broadcast includes a sound proof room or studio, sound boards, microphones and
switchboards and the tools used for editing would be solely based around sounds to enhance the
audience s aural experience, so this would include sound editing software such as audacity.
ABC Television works with independent producers to ensure that the content being delivered to the
public is diverse and unique. Strict processes are followed by both parties to ensure that the content is
of high quality and serves a purpose to the audience.
THE PROCESS FOR PRODUCING AN INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION WITH THE ABC IS AS

Persuasive Essay On Dental Clinic
Dental clinics are normally the places you visit when you have some issues with your teeth. You will
find many dental clinics, but make sure that the dental doctors in these clinics have respectable
experience in handling numerous kinds of dental circumstances. If you are eyeing for the best oral
care then you should take into contemplation the amenities that these clinics offer. The issue is that
there are many clinics that have admirable facilities but the dental specialists there might not be
categorically qualified, while there are other clinics where you have superb dentists, but the services

Political Style Of George Orwell
George Orwell is well known for his writing focusing on political events throughout Europe. His most
popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in literature.
However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both the political
movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric Arthur Blair,
better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political climate during
his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever changing, politically
charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information must be included because
one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of his early development. His father,
who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service, which would
later influence his opinion on British imperialism in Burma. His family was lower middle class, even
though they had high social status. They returned to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on
a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy during his time at school since his family made much less
money than the other boys there. After Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial
constabulary. He discovered that he was hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British
imperialism, which made him hate the work itself (viii).
His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the
beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to Down
and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh criticisms of
the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which included nearly losing
his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political opponents, was detailed in
Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism. This experience could have
been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more conservative side (Baker vii).
Nevertheless, his journalistic writing just a few years later combined patriotic sentiment with the

President Franklin D. Roosevelt s The Saturday Evening Post
Freedom from Want is my favorite of all the ads I came across during research. The history of this
painting dates back to World War II and former President Franklin D. Roosevelt s speech. During
Roosevelt s annual State of the Union address on January 6, 1941, he spoke about four freedoms. The
four fundamental freedoms are freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and
freedom from fear. Norman Rockwell was inspired by this speech and made painting that depict each
of the fundamental freedoms. Two years later, on March 6, 1943, The Saturday Evening Post
published the set of paintings by Norman Rockwell. The paintings later became the centerpiece for
war bonds advertisement and raised $130,000,000 in war bond sales. Among all ... Show more content

Other country s economy especially countries in Europe had been damaged due to the war. The

help. The turkey is the most noticeable piece in the painting. The turkey seems to be well made and
cooked to perfection. The turkey s beautiful appearance along with its enormous size show plenitude
and abundance. However, a large percentage of the world population in 1943 were living in hunger
and poverty. At least 3 million people died from starvation and malnutrition during a famine in the
Indian province of Bengal (Lazzaro). Therefore the huge turkey in this image serves as a motive. The
huge turkey represents freedom from want. It creates the assumption that the turkey (freedom from
want) is worth fight for. Freedom from want is also a display of patriotism. Rockwell chose to make
illustrations of Roosevelt s proposed freedoms instead of painting any random image. Freedom from
Want affirms traditional American values, depicting Americans as prosperous and free, and effectively
communicates the warmth, security and hope of an idealized vision of American family life. Freedom

Race And Social Race
Race, to many people is one thing and one thing only; the color of one s skin. But race is more than
just the color of one s skin, but it s their biological makeup and social makeup. Biological race is the
skin color we are born with along with the other genetic traits that come with certain ethnic
backgrounds. Social race, however, is how society depicts your skin color and biological traits, and
decides from there what social class you may be placed in, how you ll be treated, and how you ll live
your life, socially. All people are biologically born the same race as their parents, or a mix, if the
parents are different. But what determines the social race? Social race can be explained using the
blacks in Southern America during the times of segregation. Blacks were forced to eat, drink, and sit
in different places just because of their skin color. During this time blacks were seen as scum of the
Earth, dirty, and vile, just because of their skin color. Many people thought that blacks carried diseases
and lacked intelligence in early America. Later you had pictures and drawings of human skulls and
black skulls that were always seen as less desirable and less beautiful, just because their skulls tended
to be more oval in shape and not round like the whites. Though there can be strictly biological racism
and strictly social racism, they both go hand in hand in many cases. Ota Benga, from Congo, was
captured for his looks and abnormalities. He was black, stood four feet

Congenital Heart Disease ( Chd )
Congenital Heart disease (CHD)
Congenital heart disease is also known as Congenital heart defect or congenital cardiovascular
malformations. The word congenital means existing at birth. Congenital heart defects change the
normal flow of blood to the heart. CHD is the most common type of birth defect, this disease affects 8
out of every 1,000 newborns. More than 35,000 babies each year in the United States are born with a
congenital heart defect.
If you have a congenital heart defect it means your heart has a problem with its structure when you
were born. Defects may involve the inferior walls of the heart, the valves inside the heart, the arteries
and veins that carry the blood to the heart or the body. You may also be born with a small hole in your
heart or it could be more severe. In these cases there may be very serious conditions, but many of
which can be treated with surgery.
Congenital heart disease include many different types of defects. Some of these defects are simple,
such as a hole in the septum. Others, are more complex and severe that include combinations of
simple defects, problems with the location of blood vessels leading to and from the heart and other
serious problems with the development of the heart. The different types of defects ranging from
simple to complex are holes in the heart (septal defects or atrial septal defects ASD), Patent Ductus

The Helicopter Flight Controls Of Fly By Wire System
ABSTRACT
Helicopter is known for being extremely challenging to fly. The helicopter flight controls enables the
pilot to attain a controlled flight. The flight controls differ drastically when compared to the fixed
wing aircraft. The advancement in flight controls namely fly by wire system has resulted in reducing
the complexity of the system. The state of the art fly by wire system has resulted in increasing the
performance and at the same time reduces the workload of a pilot. The four main controls include
collective pitch control, cyclic pitch control, throttle control and anti torque pedals. The employment
of fly by wire has thus paved way for reduction in weight whilst providing more space for comfort and
effortless handling. The commercial helicopter are beginning to utilize the fly by wire technology after
being tried and tested by fixed wing aircraft and military helicopter. The goal of this technical essay is
to provide an overview of the evolution helicopter flight controls from the earlier complex analog
phase to the present simplified digital phase.
Introduction
In the early 1920s, designing the rotors to attain an efficient flight was the utmost priority. The next
decade was followed by, perfection of control systems and its mechanism for a real world flight
capability. The flight control system is an element of the aircraft control loop which is essential for the
pilot. When evaluating the aspects of an ideal helicopter the first facet to be considered is

Pierre Bourdieu And Coleman Essay
Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman are the two sociologist who studied social capital. It was
Bourdieu who is credited with developing the term in sociology, and Coleman who introduced it for
widespread use. Bourdieu classified his theory into fields of theory, which are capital and how they
relate to class reproduction. For Pierre the relationship between social and economic capital was the
key, while Coleman thought that ties to the community is what made social capital happen. While both
felt that social capital went hand in hand with social structure, they theorized it in different manners.
Bourdieu and Coleman emphasized other forms of social capital as it deals with the intangible aspects
of social capital. Economic capital can be found in peoples bank accounts, whilst human capital
resides in peoples heads. Social capital, however, inheres in the structure of their relationships. Thus to
possess social capital, a person must be related to others and it is those others, not himself, who are the
actual source of advantage (Portes, 1998). In order to understand Bourdieu and Coleman, I will first

these are systems of trust and obligations, networks disseminating information, norms accompanied
by sanctioning systems, centralized authority structures arising through transfers of control, and
appropriable social organization that may be used for purposes distinct from those that led to
establishing it (Marsden, 2005). Bourdieu has a different definition of social capital, the aggregate of
the actual or potential resources which are linked to possession of a durable network of more or less
institutionalized relationships of mutual acquaintance or recognition. (Bourdieu,

The United States Armed Forces Essay
There are currently 2,204,836 people serving in the United States Armed Forces. Females currently
make up 16.2% of those currently serving equating to 358,156 this number includes both enlisted,
reserve, and the officer corps. While the Armed Forces has downsized, the percentage of females
serving has increased with females now making up 17.8% of all active duty personnel and roughly
thirty nine thousand serving as active duty officers. With the increasing diversity of the military,
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter officially opened all positions to females on 03 JAN 2016, in a move
to better strengthen the Armed Forces. (Demographics, 2013)
In 1981, the Supreme Court of the United States(SCOTUS) ruled on Rostker v. Goldberg that stated,
women would not be required to register for the Selective Service System(SSS) because they are not
able to serve in direct combat roles in any branch of the Armed Forces.(Rostker v. Goldberg) While
females have gone to war and been on the front lines, they have always been there indirectly. Until the
announcement by Secretary Carter on 03 DEC 2015 females were not allowed to directly serve in

there is precedence set by Rostker v. Goldberg in the case of females having to register for the SSS.

Why Is Hannibal Lecter Considered A Villain
In every great novel or film there is an antagonist, and in some cases what people would consider a
villain. Every villain has different motives for what they do and different character traits. The one
thing in common with most villains is being an opposing force to a hero. In many cases, the best
villains are the most complex. One example of a complex villain from both a series of films and
novels is the character Hannibal Lecter. In the books you can see that Hannibal Lecter is a villain with
many positive traits that are perceived negative because of the way he uses them. Some people may
even say that towards the end of the series, Hannibal is more of an anti hero than villain. Hannibal

Hannibal is an extremely intelligent character. It s mentioned in the books and throughout the
films/TV series that Hannibal could go through tests that show intelligence scores with no struggle at
all and scored perfectly. Hannibal uses his intelligence to get himself out of situations where he would
be arrested, and uses his intelligence to manipulate people. In The Red Dragon, the author states this,
Lecter is so lucid, so perceptive; he s trained in psychiatry... and he s a mass murderer. Despite being
to intelligent and perceptive, having degrees in thing he is a mass murderer. Hannibal is a cannibalistic
serial killer, and how he manages it is because of his intelligence. Hannibal s level of intelligence
makes him interesting, but makes his own character disinterested in others. Hannibal has used his
intelligence to escape from prison, manipulate people in authority, and lead a life of cannibalism
behind closed doors for years with no one noticing. He managed to live his life as a psychiatrist while
secretly killing people and feeding them to his associates for a good amount of time before being
apprehended by Will Graham. Hannibal is capable of reading people very easily, pin pointing their
weaknesses and anything important to know about them within one short glance. Overall, Hannibal is

Is Beowulf The Ideal Hero Essay
Beowulf is an Old English poem in which a hero gains fame and riches through defeating
monsters.Beowulf the hero, is form a clan known as the geats. In the poem he is said to be one of the
bravest and strongest men on earth. Beowulf begins his journey by slaying a monster known as
Grendel, that has been terrorizing the Danes. Once Grendel is killed he boasts about his brute strength
and earns kinship from King Hrothgar. Beowulf then proceeded to fight in two more battles with the
third one ending in a deadly defeat for Beowulf. So why is Beowulf considered the perfect hero by his
society?
Part of it had to do with the fact that in Beowulf s time period and society, they had certain
actions, traits, and values that Anglo Saxons deemed heroic. There are a couple distinct traits that make
up the Anglo Saxon hero. The first one is Loyalty. Anglo Saxons were immensely loyal. In the poem
the author writes, Beowulf arose, with his men around him, ordering a few to remain with their
weapons (47 ). This quote signifies that Beowulf had men that were loyal to him. They considered
Beowulf worthy enough to follow his orders. The next trait would be strength. A hero is always related
to strength whether it be mental or physical. In this case Beowulf had tremendous physical strength.
The poem shows Beowulf s brute strength in a quote that states, Grasped at a strong hearted wakeful
sleeper and was instantly seized himself, claws Bent back as Beowulf leaned up on one arm. That

  • 2. Essay on Immortality and Myth in The Age of Innocence Immortality and Myth in The Age of Innocence Edith Wharton s books are considered, by some, merely popular fiction of her time. But we must be careful not to equate popularity with the value of the fiction; i.e., we must not assume that if her books are popular, they are also primitive. Compared to the works of her contemporary and friend, Henry James, whose books may seem complex and sometimes bewildering; Wharton s The Age of Innocence appears to be a simplistic, gossipy commentary of New York society during the last decade of the 19th century*. Instead, it is one man s struggle with the questions of mortality and immortality. Wharton s characters, settings and the minutiae of social rituals, manners, speech habits, dress and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Urns and wall paintings tell us about the mythical characters predilection for a sensual life; this compares to Wharton s characters penchant for their own hedonistic life of carousing, sexual cavorting and dizzy social calendars of parties and operas. The Greeks, mythical and real, were masters of architecture and decoration, which to this day, attest to their immortality. Wharton pays great attention to the mansions and embellishments of the New York houses. Her society attempts to be immortal in its own buildings; and by amassing ornate bits and bobbles from ages past and paintings and decorations, the society feels it will live on forever: Then the house had been boldly planned with a ball room, so that, instead of squeezing through a narrow passage to get to it (as at the Chiverses ) one marched solemnly down a vista of enfiladed drawing rooms (the sea green, the crimson and the botron d or), seeing from afar the many candled lustres reflected in the polished parquetry, and beyond that the depths of a conservatory where camellias and tree ferns arched their costly foliage over seats of black and gold Bamboo. Wharton s characters, albeit mortal beings, are made immortal and some can even be compared with mythical characters. We ll begin with the lesser characters. • 3. Pollution Prevention ( P2 ) Introduction Pollution is the contamination of air, soil, or water by the release of harmful substances. Pollution prevention (P2) is to diminish or eradicate the pollutant at the source, for source reduction, (e.g. the dry cleaning and hydraulic fracturing industries). P2 happens when raw materials, water, energy and other resources are utilized more efficiently, when less harmful substances are substituted for hazardous ones, and when toxic substances are eliminated from the production process (Ashby, 2013). Dry Cleaning Points According to Sinshelmer, Grout, Namkoong, Gottlieb, Latif (2007), states that 85% of all dry cleaners operating within the United States uses Perchloroethylene (PCE) as the foremost cleaning agent in the ... Ecologically, professional wet cleaning verified to be an energy proficient, nontoxic, zero emission technology that eradicates harmful air emissions, menacing waste production, and the possibility for soil and groundwater contamination. It has shown that those cleaners who had switched to professional wet cleaning were able to continue the same service while maintaining their customer base, in addition to lowering operating costs. These dry cleaners were capable to convert to professional wet cleaning without an enormous of strain or effort and conveyed great approval as professional wet cleaner. Granted, the effects point towards that professional wet cleaning is a feasible alternative for dry cleaning, it is imperative to think through the circumstances, which the dry cleaners assessed converted to professional wet cleaning (Sinshelmer, Grout, Namkoong, Gottlieb, Latif, 2007). Sinshelmer, Grout, Namkoong, Gottlieb, Latif (2007), states that the Professional Wet Cleaning Demonstration Project was created to aid in the start of this nontoxic technology in the Los Angeles region. Beck, Cognitive Therapy (CT), or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), is a form of psychotherapy in which the therapist and the client work together as a team to identify and solve problems. Therapists help clients to overcome their difficulties by changing their thinking, behavior, and emotional responses. A System of Psychotherapy Cognitive therapy is a comprehensive system of psychotherapy, and treatment is based on an elaborated and empirically supported theory of psychopathology and personality. It has been found to be effective in more than 400 outcome studies for a myriad of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Goal of Cognitive Therapy The goals of cognitive therapy are to help individuals achieve a remission of their disorder and to prevent relapse. Much of the work in sessions involves aiding individuals in solving their real life problems and teaching them to modify their distorted thinking, dysfunctional behavior, and distressing affect. Therapists plan treatment on the basis of a cognitive formulation of patients disorders and an ongoing individualized cognitive conceptualization of patients and their difficulties. A developmental framework is used to understand how life events and experiences led to the development of core beliefs, underlying assumptions, and coping strategies, particularly in patients with personality disorders. A strong therapeutic alliance is a key feature of cognitive therapy. Therapists are collaborative and function as a team with patients. They provide rationales and seek patients agreement when undertaking interventions. They make mutual decisions about how time will be spent in a session, which problems will be discussed, and which homework assignments patients believe will be helpful. They engage patients in a process of collaborative empiricism to investigate the validity of the patient s thoughts and beliefs. Cognitive therapy is educative, and patients are taught cognitive, behavioral, and emotional regulation skills so they can, in essence, become their own therapists. This allows ... • 5. Air Pollution And Its Effects On Health Air pollution is considered the presence of a harmful substance in the air. All aerobic biological system use oxygen as an essential part of their physiological cellular metabolic processes (Valavanidis et. al 2013). With the inclusion of oxygen within our biological systems come complications. More specifically, air pollution has been deemed hazardous to human health. Air pollution is a complex and abundant mixture of pollutants. The combination of matter includes particulate matter, chemical substance, biological materials as well as particles that are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. Regardless the type of particles it consists of, particulate matter is associated with triggering serious health complications. There is an upsurge in awareness of adverse effects on health due to both acute and chronic exposure to particulate matter. Furthermore, epidemiological as well as toxicological studies continue to discover a correlation between particle pollution and mortality. The objective of this paper is to discuss particulate matter and address the health problems it can manifest. Particulate matter is particle air pollution that consists of both organic and inorganic molecules (Blomberg 2012). This particle pollution, also known as PM, is constructed of inhalable coarse particles as well as fine course particles. These particles consist of various sizes, which are unequivocally connected to causations of health ailments. The inhalable course particles (PM10) have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Taming Of The Shrew Analysis Performing Marriage with a Difference: Wooing, Wedding, and Bedding in The Taming of the Shrew Amy L. Smith Even before the recent burgeoning of performance theory, The Taming of the Shrew was of great interest to critics interested in role playing , identity, and theatricality. And because Kate s taming and her performative speech both take place in a play within a play, Taming fostered a critical interest in the intersection between performance and gender long before the phrase gender trouble became commonplace. The recent debates about performance, culture, and theater sparked in part by Judith Butler suggest, however, that it is time to revisit our analysis of gender and performance in this play. Although there are a number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ramer, they dramatize a marriage that leaves Kate and Petruchio negotiating not only gender hierarchies but also love, sexuality, and parental demands. The Turning s particular reiteration of marriage enacts a series of negotiations for power, none of which results in a marriage based on simple domination and submission or perfect egalitarianism. By exaggerating husbandly dominance, for example, Petruchio s performance draws our attention not to the power inherent in such dominance but rather to its inefficacy. Thereby a conception of marriage that expects hierarchy and mutuality to coincide effortlessly is questioned. Kate emphasizes the room marriage leaves for maneuverability by enacting one that incorporates her wit and sexuality into her very performances of submission. Thus by thinking of marriage (andthefemalesubjectionitrequires) as performative, we can read Kate s agency through her reiteration of the role of wife a reiteration that stresses her reshaping of Petruchio and their marriage. By using performance theory to contend that gendered institutions such as marriage can and do change, I suggest that the very institutions which some critics suggest Kate is forced either to accept or to escape are instead critiqued and perhaps even shaped by her.4 Indeed, one of the reasons that the field of performance studies is so prevalent today and has so much to offer our readings of this play is ... • 7. Dr Pio Research Paper Padre Pio was born in Italy on May 25, 1887. His family was very poor but taught him great values of life. At a young age, Padre Pio proved he was devoted to God. At the age of five, he dedicated his life to God. From early in his childhood, he showed a tremendous recollection of spirit and a love for religious life around him. He was once described as a young boy who loved to go to church and to pray. He was able to see and communicate with his guardian angel, Jesus, and the Virgin Mary. In his simplicity, Francesco assumed everyone had the same experiences. When he was fifteen years old, he was admitted to the novitiate of the Capuchin Order of the Friars Minor in Morcone, Italy. On August 10, 1910, at the age of twenty three, Padre Pio was ordained to the priesthood. He wrote, For a long time I have felt in myself a need to offer myself to the Lord as a victim for poor sinners and for the souls in Purgatory. This desire has been growing continually in my heart so that it has now become what I would call a strong passion. It seems to me that Jesus wants this. Saint Padre Pio died on September 23, 1968. He died with his Rosary in his hands. His last words were Gesú, Maria. He had often proclaimed, After my death I will do more. My real mission will begin after my death. The influence he had been among the church would be enough for most, but Padre Pio thought he could do more. His prayer life was maybe the greatest of all saints. His day began at 2:30 a.m. when he would begin his prayers and prepare for Mass. Between Mass and confessions, his workday lasted 19 hours. He mostly stayed in monastery and never missed one day of his schedule in 51 years of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Analysis Of The Poem The World Is Too Much With Us The poem, The World Is Too Much with Us by William Wordsworth argues that people s disregard for nature s importance makes them lose their humanity. Wordsworth sees materialism as a waste of our powers (359). Our powers of being able to keep in touch with a fundamental part of themselves. To preserve and see the beauty of nature. Instead of building upon it. The start of the Industrialization in Britain brought factories, buildings, and a newly built world. The social changes that were taking place brought a new attitude. Gone was the slow moving life of rural living replaced by urban living. Urbanization gave an urgency to the people. This was due to hiring unskilled workers for cheap and leaving skilled workers still searching for jobs. Leaving many lower class people unsatisfied and living in an increasingly dismal conditions. • 9. Symbols In Macbeth Essay The final act of Shakespeare s Macbeth is the culmination of the entire play, and Shakespeare uses heavy symbolism to portray the final ideas of this tragedy. In the first scene, it is revealed that Lady Macbeth has been sleepwalking, an expression of her anxiety. However, the Doctor asks How came she by that light (i. 23) and why she rubs // her hands (i. 28 29). Throughout the play, Lady Macbeth has been wrought with guilt because of Duncan s death. Now, she has an ever burning candle always at her side. This candle represents her state of mind, with the lit wick her guilt that constantly eats away at her. Additionally, while Macbeth unravels, he asks his servant Seyton, an allusion in his own rite, to put on and take off his armor multiple times, a verbal indication of this disorder. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the division of the scenes is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into scenes, the constant change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer scenes from the rest of the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of Macbeth is the ultimate symbol within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the night (except for Young Siward) and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the time of the final battle, the sun, a symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat. This moment culminates the conflicts of evil and good, night and day, Macbeth and Scotland, and restores the order to the chain of being. • 14. Summary Of How To Touch A Bleeding Dog Love can often cause people to adjust their lifestyle to another person s. How to Touch a Bleeding Dog shows how a guy who once had a wife that he loved took care of one of her most precious possessions. It s safe to say the average human being doesn t have to have mutual friendship (a human) with the dog in order to like him/her. In this case however the main character from this short story says that the dog is not his, but is his responsibility. This responsibility seemed to fall to him due to the passing of his wife. One could even say he seems disconnected from the world from the relationship that is seen between him and his dog. The dogs passing could be seen as a metaphor for the Beth leaving her husband on his own to provide for himself, to take care of any possessions she may have had, and to fight his depression alone. The main character is now having feelings of loneliness and depression. The first paragraph states that inside is warm , and outside is cold , This could be tied as symbolism of the fact that he is secluding himself from the world. When the dog passed away the main character said that it s not my dog, but it s my responsibility , this can make the reader think of all of the other responsibilities that the main character was left with. There are definitely some parallels between the dog and Beth. They both end up being burdens on the main character and leaving behind more for him to deal with. After the dog passes away the main character says the blood on the carpet of the car is out of sight, and I will pretend it isn t there. And then there s the touch. The touch can be seen as how the dog emotionally affected him by passing away. The dog did bring sadness to the main characters life due to the memories the main character seemed to have when he interacted with the dog. I watched my hand volunteer itself and run its finger through the nap of his head . The way this sentence is put together makes it sound as if his caring for the dog was an involuntary action. Bottlenose dolphins are grey, varying from dark grey at the top near the dorsal fin to very light grey and almost white at the underside. There are two ecotypes of bottlenose dolphins the coastal and the offshore. The Coastal dolphin has a small body and large flippers to increase agility and heat dissipation. They have a limited movement into offshore waters and like shallow warm water near the shore. Coastal dolphins for the most part remain in their region. The Offshore dolphin has a large body to help conserve heat and defend itself against predators. They are less restricted in range and movement and like deep, cold waters. Offshore dolphins in the North Atlantic have migratory patterns that follow prey distribution. Bottlenose dolphins live in groups typically of 10 30 members, called pods, but group size varies from single individuals up to more than 1,000. In a case study performed by Randall Wells who is the leader of the longest study of dolphin population since 1970, it was discovered that there are three main factors that influence migration: Seasonal changes in prey location, predation pressure and reproductive requirements. • 23. Political Style Of George Orwell George Orwell is well known for his writing focusing on political events throughout Europe. His most popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in literature. However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both the political movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric Arthur Blair, better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political climate during his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever changing, politically charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information must be included because one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of his early development. His father, who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service, which would later influence his opinion on British imperialism in Burma. His family was lower middle class, even though they had high social status. They returned to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy during his time at school since his family made much less money than the other boys there. After Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial constabulary. He discovered that he was hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British imperialism, which made him hate the work itself (viii). His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh criticisms of the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which included nearly losing his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political opponents, was detailed in Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism. This experience could have been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more conservative side (Baker vii). But race is more than just the color of one s skin, but it s their biological makeup and social makeup. Biological race is the skin color we are born with along with the other genetic traits that come with certain ethnic backgrounds. Social race, however, is how society depicts your skin color and biological traits, and decides from there what social class you may be placed in, how you ll be treated, and how you ll live your life, socially. All people are biologically born the same race as their parents, or a mix, if the parents are different. But what determines the social race? Social race can be explained using the blacks in Southern America during the times of segregation. Blacks were forced to eat, drink, and sit in different places just because of their skin color. During this time blacks were seen as scum of the Earth, dirty, and vile, just because of their skin color. Many people thought that blacks carried diseases and lacked intelligence in early America. Later you had pictures and drawings of human skulls and black skulls that were always seen as less desirable and less beautiful, just because their skulls tended to be more oval in shape and not round like the whites. • 29. Pierre Bourdieu And Coleman Essay Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman are the two sociologist who studied social capital. It was Bourdieu who is credited with developing the term in sociology, and Coleman who introduced it for widespread use. Bourdieu classified his theory into fields of theory, which are capital and how they relate to class reproduction. For Pierre the relationship between social and economic capital was the key, while Coleman thought that ties to the community is what made social capital happen. While both felt that social capital went hand in hand with social structure, they theorized it in different manners. Bourdieu and Coleman emphasized other forms of social capital as it deals with the intangible aspects of social capital. Economic capital can be found in peoples bank accounts, whilst human capital resides in peoples heads. Social capital, however, inheres in the structure of their relationships. Thus to possess social capital, a person must be related to others and it is those others, not himself, who are the actual source of advantage (Portes, 1998).
