Relationship Between Police And Police

Police Relations in Black America
Numerous unjust losses covered by the media over recent years that involved African Americans and
police officers are continuously dwelling in the minds of many today. All of these incidents involved
excessive force by officers and many involved racial profiling as well. Following these incidents,
many American s have vocalized their loss of trust with law enforcement officials through protest
marches and riots. Everyone is demanding a solution for healing these poor relations between police
officers and African American communities.
Mass criminalization of victimless offenses are part of though the problem, as well as police weapons,
though healing relations between police and the people goes much deeper than that. First one would
have to ask why there is generally a culture of distrust and trepidation between police and African
Americans.
From runaway slave catchers in the 19th century, to Jim Crow enforcers in the 1960 s, to the drug war
pillaging our communities, African Americans and police officers have never had a good relationship.
The drug war of course is the bane on humanity period and isn t exclusive to African Americans, but
in America it was formally introduced by the state into African American communities. Longstanding
research conducted by the University of Florida indicated that race plays a primary factor in attitudes
towards the police, with blacks more likely than white to express levels of dissatisfaction (Rice and
Piquero 1). For the peace and safety of everyone, it is important Americans make an effort to mend
these strained relationships.
It s very true that most Americans tend not to look forward to having interactions with police officers.
This isn t all surprising, of course. When something bad happens and a police officer responds, one is
more than likely grateful for their service just as you would be with any other first responder, such as
AAA or paramedics. This leads to a positive relationship between people and their civil servants.
When one is meeting with an officer in a way that puts them in a position that in no way if for their
protection, but rather contributes to

Autism Cause And Effect Essay
Autism: Cause and Effects
Autism is a disorder characterized by severe difficulties in social interaction and communication and
with unusual behaviors. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). This disorder is assumed to be caused by genetics,
environmental toxins and/or prenatal care. (Harvard Medical School 2013). Social
behaviors/interactions affected by Autism is the ability to process learning, communication and
family/peer relationships. Autism is a disorder in which its cause makes it impossible to prevent and it
takes a toll on its victim s everyday life tasks.
Autism is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by severe and sustained impairment in social
interaction, deviance in communication, and patterns of behavior and interests that are restricted, ...

Independent of the genome screens, evidence suggests that the region on chromosome 15q11 13
contains a gene or genes relevant to Autism. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Basically, there are suggestions
that the chromosome 15q11 13 is somehow mutated, deleted, or duplicated, causing this disorder to
transpire. In addition to genetics, environmental factors can influence Autism; though they are not
greatly supported ideas, they can t be entirely ruled out. In the UK there have been reports of the
measles vaccine having a part in causing this disorder. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Newer studies have
even shown that prenatal care before a woman even conceives reduces the risk extensively. Woman
who did not take a daily multivitamin in the three months before conception and during the first month
of pregnancy were almost twice as likely to give birth to a child with ASD as a woman who had taken
a daily multivitamin. (The Harvard Mental Health Letter 2011). Multivitamins contain a lot of helpful
vitamins to maintain a healthy pregnancy, but researchers suggest that the folic acid is the most
significant influence that reduces the risk of a child born with ASD. (The Harvard Mental Health

Prisons and the UK Criminal Justice System
The ongoing role of prison within the UK Criminal Justice System is becoming increasingly unclear.
On the one hand in the 21st century, it is considered to be a state strategy for crime control, a deterrent
for those contemplating crime and punitive response for those who have broken laws McAvinchey
(2011 pg.10). On the other hand, it is also supposed to have a rehabilitative purpose, the intended role
of a prison is to rehabilitate the offender so that when they have completed their prison sentence, they
can be successfully rehabilitated back into the community and live a crime free fulfilled life. Yet,
when examining the vital statistics that underline an increase in prisoner population, it is clearly
apparent that the system neither ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Høidal , a prison officer in Halden prison Norway 2012 explains
Everyone who is imprisoned inside Norwegian prisons will be released and will go back to society.
We look at what kind of neighbour you want to have when they come out. If you stay in a box for a
few years, then you are not a good person when you come out. If you treat them hard... well, we don t
think that treating them hard will make them a better man. We don t think about revenge in the
Norwegian prison system. We have much more focus on rehabilitation , Guardian newspaper (2012).
This focus on rehabilitation as opposed to punishment appears to have had positive effects, as
reoffending rates were less than 30% in 2013 in Norway, Guardian newspaper (2012). This was the
lowest reoffending rate in Europe in that year; it is currently half of the reoffending rates within the
UK. It could be said that this therapeutic type of prison is controversial, as one may argue that they are
not punishing offenders for the crimes that they have committed, with the belief that prison life should
not be enjoyable. Osbourne from the New York Times argues that prisons should not be a place of
enjoyment if things are made... pleasant for convicts.. the result

Seismic Activities In The United States
Fracking: Main Cause of Seismic Activity in the Central Parts of the United States and Solutions for
the Problems it Created Over the years there has been a multitude of earthquakes, which has been felt
across the Great Plains Region in the United States and many other surrounding states. These states
that do not normally have seismic activities are experiencing an increase of quakes near oil and natural
gas sites. Many of the states that have not felt the seismic activities are now experiencing earthquakes.
As a result there has been new research that has been devoted to the effects of hydraulic fracking.
Hydraulic fracking is a technique that uses pressurized water to to break apart the shale and extract oil
and gas. The fossil fuels that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many experts in this field say that the large number of seismic events in Kansas is directly linked to
fracking. Although hydraulic fracking is an old process, it is more widely used today. (Petit, 2015, p.
14) The process that is being used for hydraulic fracking is by using pressurized water to break apart
the layer of shale. After the water is removed it is filled with salt and many other minerals which are in
the rocks. Once that is done, then the companies will transport it to a waste site. The disposal site can
be several hundred or thousands of miles away, depending on where they must dispose wastewater.
When the water is being disposed of the wastewater is being put underground in one of the disposal
sites. When this is done there are certain regulations that must be followed. There are many scientists
that have done research on the link between fracking and earthquakes. Wastewater disposal, at least in
the U.S. has been the primary cause of earthquakes. as stated by Arthur McGarr. (BOB, n.d., para. 10)
There are several people have differing opinions about hydraulic fracking. The likelihood that induced
seismic events will occur in properly, permitted and operated [disposal wells] is very small, as stated
by Edward Cross. (Wayne, 2015, para. 6) The experts in this field still have to determine when
hydraulic fracking is the main cause of earthquakes or if the main cause of seismic activity is due to
the disposal of wastewater. (BOB, n.d., para. 11) There are many people in the United States that think
the same thing when it comes to fracking. When Americans were asked to explain the surge of the
earthquakes many of them said that the cause was fracking. (Petit, 2015, p. 15) The industries that are
using hydraulic fracking are trying to take the necessary precautions when it comes to facking and the
disposal of the wastewater. Furthermore,

The modern era, which encompasses the period between the climax of the nineteenth century and the
beginning of the twenty first century, has been a prosperous time for the fields of innovation, which

comprehensive understanding of the field of astrophysics, advancements in the understanding of
atomic theory, and innovations in the field of aeronautics. However, these advances are not the

Though his influence is not known by the general public as extensively as that of other modern
thinkers, Nikola Tesla is the most likely candidate for a lasting influence upon the general public, due
to the fact that his inventions and discoveries are visible in the lives of nearly all people.
Despite the fact that Nikola Tesla is not the subject of the admiration of many, the inventions
attributed to him have affected the lives of countless people throughout the world. Tesla, the Croatian
born inventor, is responsible, in part, for the modern electrical system, which may be seen in nearly all
residences, places of business, and places of debauchery. Tesla s contribution to the electrical system
provided greater efficiency, due to the fact that his use of alternating current allowed for a requirement
of fewer power stations within a given area, thus improving upon Edison s original vision ( Nikola
Tesla ). Tesla s foray into the field of electricity was not limited to the electric system, thus Tesla is
attributed with the creation of the induction motor, which may be seen in electric cars, fans used for
the circulation of air, devices used within the hard drives of computers, and numerous other devices,
thus Tesla is responsible for devices without which more advanced devices in the

Model Driven Architectures ( Soa )
Model Driven Architectures Introduction Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) is a design pattern
which involves using web services in order to perform various business operations. This type of
architecture enables applications to be more flexible and adaptable to changing business and consumer
requirements. A Software Product Line (SPL) is a set of software systems that share certain common
features in terms of their specifications, the market segment they are built for and the principles they
are built by. Service Oriented Architectures and Software Product Lines are two concepts that led to
the emergence of Model Driven Architectures. Model Driven Architectures (MDA) is a concept that
was developed by the Object Management Group (OMG) in 2001. [1] The concept of Model Driven
Architectures was developed in order to tackle the challenges presented by complexity and change.
Rapidly changing requirements and technologies introduce various changes in software. These
changes, in turn, result in the introduction of complexity in software or a family of software. Model
Driven Architectures attempt to connect platform specific and platform independent implementations
in a software product line. [4] MDA Concepts The standard architecture for Model Driven
Architecture involves certain concepts which are briefly explained in this section. A software system
consists of a set of components and/or applications that communicate with each other. A model of such

Research Paper On False Memories
Introduction
False memories are memories which have never really occurred but the person who holds them is
convinced of the opposite. Therefore, as Kenneth S. Pope specifies in his research, false memory
syndrome is a condition in which a person s identity and interpersonal relationships are centered
around a memory of a traumatic experience which is objectively false but which the person strongly
believes. Truth be told, everyone may have memories which might not be true but the syndrome is
confirmed only if the anamnesis affects and determines the person s whole personality and behavior.
(Pope, n.d.)
Research questions
Serious false memories like child abuse are often mistaken as repressed ones which were recalled
through therapy sessions with the help of a professional. This, however, brings around the controversy
about whether repressed memories truly exist and if they do, whether they are accurate enough to be
taken into consideration.
Still, how can someone be certain that false memories are real occurrences since no one can travel
back in time to verify them? Also if we accept them as an existing issue ... Show more content on

Scheflin, repressed memory falls under the umbrella of dissociative amnesia which is characterized by
an inability to recall important personal information usually of a traumatic or stressful nature, that is
too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness (Scheflin, 1999). In order to support his view,
Scheflin, cites numerous researches that had been contacted in order to prove that memories of
dreadful events can be forgotten and recalled after a certain amount of time. For example, he refers to
a survey in the early 90s that verified repressed memories when Father James Porter was convicted of
sexual harassment of many young boys and girls after the testimony of his victims. However this
study was questioned due to the selection of the subjects and the prejudice of the ones who conducted
the experiment. (Scheflin,

Sexism In The Work Force Essay
Sexism is the social justice issue that involves discrimination in society based on gender. Both men
and women can experience the effects of sexism today but women seem to endure this injustice more.
This can be seen in the work force today as women do not receive equal rights as men in this
particular department. Women are often paid less than men and there is a glass ceiling which is the
term used for the barriers that women face in being promoted to higher level jobs. Although our world
has made significant progress lately in creating equal rights for all women, in the U.S. today, men still
dominate the most important positions of power. Another area where both women and men are

Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is
The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has
also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for
striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He
develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view
in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but
uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other.
Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The
Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder
of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal
thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. For example,
the story says, So I opened it you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily until, at length a simple dim
ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye. In this
quotation, Poe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Tell Tale Heart, Poe uses repetition and metaphors. Poe uses repetition to help characterize the
narrator as mad. For example, the story says ...hark! louder! louder! louder! louder! The repetition also
creates suspense. Poe uses metaphors to foreshadow what will happen. For example, the story says He
had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Vultures are scavenging birds who circle
around and eat dead organisms. This connection to death foreshadows that death will happen in the

The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Analysis
Many people judge and assume others just by appearances. In the article, The Necklace by Guy de
Maupassant, we learn that sometimes appearances are not always what they seem. Below, that will be
explained through plot elements. To begin, Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace
uses one of the plot elements through the rising action to show the theme. The first way is when
Mathilde borrows the necklace from her friend. The article states, Go and see Madame Forestier and
ask her to lend you some jewels. You know her quite well for that. That shows that she can ask her
friends for a necklace to make herself look good. Another quote is, Suddenly she discovers, in a black
satin case, a superb diamond necklace . . . could you lend this to me, just this alone? Yes of course.
That quote shows that Mathilde really wants to look nice, even though she cannot afford it. In
conclusion, Mathilde wants to look nice even though she isn t that wealthy which supports the theme,
many people judge and assume others just by appearances. Another way Guy de Maupassant, the
author of the article The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is through the falling action to show
the theme. The one way is when Mathilde and her husband wear their everyday clothes after leaving
the party around 4 o clock. The article states, She left about four o clock in the morning. Since
midnight, her husband had been dozing in a deserted little room, in company with three other men
whose wives were having a good time. He threw over her shoulders the garments he had brought for
them to go home in, modest everyday clothes, whose poverty clashed with the beauty of the ball dress.
She was conscious of this and was anxious to hurry away, so that she should not be noticed by the
other women putting on their costly furs. That shows that Mathilde was embarrassed and wanted to
leave the party as soon as possible. To sum up, Mathilde was embarrassed when wearing casual
clothes and that supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. The
last way Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is
through the resolution to show the theme. That one way is at

The Policy Behind the Welfare Reform Act
The Welfare Reform Act of 1996 was enacted in order to change the current welfare policy at the time.
This welfare policy that existed was originally meant to provide financial assistance as well as decent
healthcare coverage during times of economic hardship (Kaestner, 2004). This policy was
implemented as a way to help hundreds of thousands of families overcome financial hurdles.
However, the idea behind the reforming of welfare was to avoid the stereotypical individuals that lived
off of welfare to continue doing so. Evidence existed that concluded that people who lived off of
government welfare assistance were actually allowing this system to destroy their desire to work and
sustain themselves (Rector Marshall, 2013). Welfare was seen as a detrimental part of the government
and it was viewed as feeding into a lazy and poorly disciplined class of individuals. Welfare s initial
intention was to aid widows who had children to support, but in a matter of decades the entire welfare
system converted from being a safety net for individuals in dire times of need, to a support system for
able bodied men who lacked motivation to find employment and sustain themselves and their families
(Rector Marshall, 2013). The Welfare Reform Act came as a way to remedy these problems.
Stipulations were put on those applying to receive welfare benefits. Limits were enacted that would
reduce the amount of time that people could receive the benefits in order to speed up their

Little Miss Sunshine Analysis
Little Miss Sunshine Essay
Maia Falkner
Little Miss Sunshine , is a film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. This film is about a girl
named Olive (played by Abigail Breslin) and her family, on their physical and emotional journey to a
beauty pageant in California. In the film Little Miss Sunshine the important settings that helped me
understand an idea was, backstage the beauty pageant, onstage the beauty pageant and a contrasting
scene on the wharf. These three scenes helped me understand the idea of society s unrealistic false
standards and the intense judgement of those that fall beneath these standards. The settings backstage
and on stage the beauty pageant portray the idea that in order to obtain beauty , extreme lengths must
be taken. In this setting young girls are stripped of their identity and objectified. The falseness of the
makeup and spray tan automatically creates an air of self doubt and pressure to reach this unreachable
perception of beauty . The setting on the wharf contrasts with the falseness of the pageant and exposes
the idea that judgement is all throughout life and somewhat inescapable, that essentially life is one big
beauty contest.
The first setting that portrays the idea of society s unrealistic standards is backstage at the Little Miss
Sunshine beauty pageant. This setting portrays this idea by showing us an environment in which the
falseness is almost overbearing. The hotel in which the pageant takes place is filled with young girls
being pampered by their mothers, spray tan, absurd amounts of makeup and over the top costumes.
These all represent this terribly false perception of beauty and objectify these young girls. A
downward, mid shot of a girl getting her legs spray tanned by her mother describes the distorted
reality of this situation. The girl s face is out of the shot which is objectifying her and taking away her
the identity. This is followed by a wide shot of Olive and Sheryl walking through the room showing
products and clothes. In this shot, we see a huge contrast between the materialistic setting and the
naturalness of Sheryl and Olive with their ordinary clothes, natural hair, and pale skin. The mise en
scene of the hotel lobby reinforces the

Frederick Douglass Vs. Harriet Jacobs
Frederick Douglass v. Harriet Jacobs We are not Americans; we are Africans who happen to be in
America. We were kidnapped and brought here against out will from Africa. We did not land on
Plymouth rock that rock landed on us ( Malcolm X ). Slavery began when Americans brought Africans
to Virginia in 1619 to complete any field work that plantation owners did not want to do themselves
(History.com Staff). Slavery lasted in America for 246 years and even after, African Americans were
still treated with disrespect from the white community. One of the many darkest and depressing events
in the history of the United States was the practice of slavery. Two of the most famous slave narrative
writers during the last three decades of legal slavery were Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs.
Douglass was an American abolitionist, author and orator. He was born into slavery for roughly 20
years until he gained the courage to escape to the north and gain freedom (History.com Staff). Upon
gaining his freedom, he created a friendship with an abolitionist known as William Lloyd Garrison.
After getting to know how strong and intelligent Douglass was after all the years he spent as a slave,
William persuaded Douglass into writing one of the most eloquent slave narratives, Narrative of the
Life of Frederick Douglass, that told the story about his experience good and bad as a slave
(History.com Staff). Harriet Jacobs was born into slavery in 1813 for 23 years when she went into

There is a lot of misconception about drug legalization. Uncertainty towards this concept is usually
because of stigma surrounding drug use or confusing legalization with decriminalization.
Decriminalising an illegal drug means taking away penalties for possessing that drug but leaving its
distribution in the hands of criminals who can continue to contaminate the drug any way they see fit.
Legalization by contrast brings narcotics entirely under government control. That means that when a
drug is legalized, the government is the one in charge of regulating the sales, content, and distribution
of the drug. The most universally effective example of a government deciding to legalize a dangerous
substance, which in its unregulated state was killing over a thousand people a year, happened when the
United States decided to legalize alcohol. Before it was legalized, alcohol in the Prohibition era was
laced with poison and the alcohol content of a drink varied dramatically (Ostroff). Back then the
selling of alcohol, like the drug market today, was a criminally operated free for all. Unregulated and
tainted liquor killed over 10,000 americans during the thirteen years of prohibition (Hanson), that s
two alcohol caused fatalities a day. Today, alcohol is strictly regulated by the government and there are
rules for what manufacturers can put in their product before it is allowed to go to market. For this

Relationship Status Based On Social Sites
Kayla Vallin Mr. Blair English 121 22 October, 2015 Relationship Status based on Social Sites(1027)
We live in the era of technology and many people say that in a sense social networking has become
their life line to the world. Social networking is a way for people from anywhere in the world to be
involved in someone s life even from a distance. Social networking has redefined the way people
interact with one another (Guo 617). Many of the social networking sites allow people to
communicate what s going on in their life through pictures and from there other people can comment
on the post. In today s world someone can be connected with the touch of a button. While social
networking has affected and strained some relationships it has also had a positive impact on many
other relationships. Expanding one s dating pool and meeting other people outside their community is
one benefit social networking has to offer its users. Before social networking sites came along
millions of adults in the united states were single, of theses adults they were limited to the amount of
possible partners they could interact with due to location (Thomas and Rosenfeld 523). Since the
introduction of social networking sites many relationships have flourished because people are no
longer limited to who they can meet. Now that the dating pool has expanded when couples meet on
opposite sides of the world they are still able to interact with one another through social networking
sites. They are able

such as black and white or blue and yellow. The small sample size studied could have also lead to
random variation in the results.

The Magnocellular pathway carries information from the M ganglion cells at rapid speed along the
dorsal stream to the parietal lobe to help us understand motion, spatial relationships and contrast. The
Parvocellular pathway carries information from the P ganglion cells at slower speed along the ventral
stream to the temporal lobe to help us process fine details of such as color and form of an object. It is
thought that the Parvocellular pathway is our primary source for recognition and identification, but
there are speculations that its allocentric frame of reference can also be used in a more egocentric
approach (i.e., the Parvocellular pathway is able to elicit an autonomic response like the
Magnocellular pathway). This research expands on these theories by studying the role of color vision
in autonomic attention responses. The experiment attempts to study the relationship between the
Magnocellular pathway and Parvocellular pathway through color cues and its effects in capturing
attention and control visual behavior (e.g., moving the eyes to locate the

Poverty Is A Serious World Problem Essay
If you were asked to donate some of your own items or money to help fight poverty, would you do it?
A substantial amount of the world s population suffers from some sort of poverty, whether it be
monetary poverty, or food poverty. Poverty has become such a prevalent issue throughout history, that
it isn t put into consideration as much as it should be. Poverty is a serious world problem, and truly
needs to be stopped. With the help of citizens of the world, and different groups, and charities, the
percentage of poverty stricken people around the world could be greatly shrunk.
Above all, poverty has countless effects on people, society, governments, etc. One of the multitude of
effects, mainly caused by food poverty, is malnutrition. Some families who suffer from poverty can t
afford to buy food, or buy healthy foods. The figures on food poverty are closer to reality than the
monetary poverty statistics, says Ivan Hidalgo. Hidalgo stated that the food poverty statistics are more
at large than the monetary poverty. Malnutrition can also lead to health issues such as diseases, while
most families cannot afford hospital care. Poverty also causes problem in education and societies. A
manifold of people struggling with poverty are not able to attend school, which will affect them for
the rest of their lives. The lack of education also greatly harms the economy of several countries.
Those who do not have any schooling often are not able to be employed anywhere, so they

The Creation Of Adam s Ceiling Essay
According to arthistory.about.com The Creation of Adam is a fresco painting by Michelangelo, which
is on the Sistine Chapel s ceiling. The Sistine Chapel forms part of the large Papal Chapel built within
the Vatican by Pope Sixtus IV. Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel s ceiling
in 1508. Michelangelo painted the ceiling from July 1508 to October 1512. The creation of Adam was
painted in 1511. In fact, The Creation of Adam took less than three weeks to complete. In the Sistine
Chapel s this painting is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the panel at the center of the
room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar. The ceiling measures about 141
feet by 43 feet. Michelangelo painted over 5,000 square feet of frescoes. (arthistory.about.com)
According to www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting fresco painting is a method of painting water
based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. The colors are made by grinding
dry powder pigments in pure water. Then, the paint dries and sets with the plaster to become a
permanent part of the wall. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself to a
monumental style, is durable, and has a matte surface. This contributed to why Michelangelo chose to
paint using this style. (www.britannica.com/art/fresco painting)

Milestones Of Normative Development
Normative development is viewed as events within a children s development that correlate towards the
matching ages, ability or skills known as the milestones approach (Cherry, K (2017)). Within a child s
average development these skills are categorised under four main subtopics 1) Physical Development
that includes the large motor skills used for tasks such sitting, walking, and crawling. As well as the
fine motor skills that are precise movements such as grasping and picking up smaller objects. 2)
Cognitive Milestones that are based around the idea of problem solving; such as being able to learn
and understand the alphabet as well as learning how to react to different situations including the
correlation that may be linked to changing facial expression. 3) Social and Emotional development is
centred on the basis of being able to gain a better understanding of personal emotions and those of
others. Social milestones also help to explain a child s interactions with others such as learning to play.
Finally, 4) Communication milestones that involve non verbal and verbal communication skills
(Cherry, K (2017)) Within regards to the following essay, the basic understanding of the four crucial
milestones will help to gain a better insight when comparing normative development to a child who
fits outside of the expected average in regards to their Biological, Psychological and Social
Development. Biological perspectives on development are defined as, the progressive changes

Bo Jackson Character Traits
Anyone who knows Vincent Edwards Bo Jackson knows him as a phenomenal football player and
baseball player that took up sports as a hobby. Growing up in the lower class Bo found himself doing
crazy stunts like throwing stones at Bores which is where he gets his nickname Bo from. Even as a
young kid Bo had this larger than life idea surrounding him. He was able to jump over 40 feet ditches
to get away which is why even as a kid Bo had a larger than life vibe to him. Bo came from a rough
background but was still able to possess heroic characteristics through his great strength and courage,
being a great warrior and his humility.
Throughout the documentary Bo Jackson proves his strength and courage. He was naturally gifted
with strength and accuracy. It is as if Bo knew precisely hard to throw stones at pigs so that they can
die. During his baseball season, Bo swung at the ball and hit it on the scoreboard which had not been
done in several years. Bo Jackson had the courage to do things that no man would ever dare face. Bo
was so athletic that coaches and himself were not able to contain it at times. One of the scenes in the
documentary shows Bo sprinting down the field attempting to get a touchdown. Most people s

Anti-War In Ambrose Beirce s Chickamauga
Chickamauga by Ambrose Beirce is a story based on the theme of anti war. The author also adds a
sense of reality vs. fantasy in the story. The story is told from the point of view of a young child whose
character is associated with a race of people born to war and dominance as a heritage. As a result, the
child creates a wooden sword and pretends to fight off invisible enemies just like his ancestors did.
Unfortunately, the child is too young to understand the realities of war and he only associates war with
bravery. The perception of the young child throughout the novel isn t very reliable. Often times the
narrator would intervene and draw a contrast between the child s perspectives vs. an adult s
perspective. For instance, when the child

Comparing Pascal s Wager In Catholicism And The Christian God
Pascal s Wager is often considered one of philosophies weakest religious arguments to date. Pascal
invents a wager to persuade the one who questions God into attending church, following the Ten
Commandments, and following any other traditions in the Catholic Church. The wager is, if a person
is a believer and after departing from this earth they find that they are correct, then their rewards are
infinite. They will receive eternal life and a relationship with God in heaven. On the other hand if a
person is a non believer and after death they find that they are incorrect, then their loss is infinite.
Meaning they have the possibility of eternal damnation and separation from God. There are another
two possibilities, in which God does not exist and the believer is incorrect and the non believer is
correct. Both of these scenarios have finite rewards or finite losses. Depending on matter of opinion,
one could say that a life doing good works and being part of a community is a reward in itself whether
or not God actually exists but to someone else it could be a restriction or a loss of freedom. None the
less, if God turns out to not exist the atheist and the theist would only have finite consequences. Pascal
s Wager is rooted in Catholicism and the Christian God. Making the wager apply to much broader
terms would take away the many Gods criticism and make the argument stronger. Restructuring the
Wager and offering the possibility of evidence, which is what Pascal should have

Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
Overview
In Malcolm Gladwell s novel Blink, the author conveys a message on the significance and power of
our snap judgements and split second decisions. He explains the influential strength of our
subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These
daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, thin slicing .
Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation,
only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, If he [researcher John Gottman]
analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that
couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success
rate is around 90 percent. From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on how to exploit these
instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to think without thinking .
However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by
fatal police shootings conducted by officers who ve misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo s
case. Additionally, thin slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. Overall,
Gladwell provides his readers with a wholesome perspective on thin slicing before stating his opinion
on the benefits and successes of utilizing our natural human intuitions to live more

Woody Guthrie s Song This Land Is Your Land
In 1940, Woody Guthrie wrote the song This Land is Your Land. He wrote it to explain that America is
everyone s, not just the people who can pay for it. He traveled across the U.S.A singing hundreds of
song that he wrote. He also made quotes that are still famous today. This song and these quotes are
similar to each other, but they also are different from each other. In these ways, This Land is Your
Land is similar to Woody s quotes. First of all, they are similar because they both say Woody will
never give up singing until his very last second on Earth. He states it in the quotes, where he says I
will fight those songs to my very last breath of air and my last drop of blood. In the song, he says
nobody living can ever stop me. Another similarity is they are saying that everyone is worth it,
everyone has a place. That is what Woody believed in. Finally, they are similar because they both
came from Woody, they both told what he felt in his heart. It is easy to tell when your hear the music
or read the quotes. They have deep passion in them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Parthenon Marbles
Located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, the Parthenon is the most famous and most important
piece of architecture in Greece. Standing in ruins as a former temple dedicated to the Greek Goddess
of wisdom, Athena, the Parthenon has held the most important sculptures made by the Greeks. During
the 1800s, when Greece was under the control of the Ottomans, sculptures from the Parthenon were
sent to Britain by Lord Elgin for safe protection. The Parthenon Marbles have since then never been
returned to the Greeks. The sculptures, currently housed in the British Museum in London, should be
returned to their homeland because they are part of Greece s culture, they have a safe home ready for
them in the Acropolis Museum, they are not being cared for as they should, it would most likely boost
the economy, and the English did not have the right to take them in the first place.

called The Townley Venus, and has been in the British Museum collection for more than 200 years. If
people who are employed by the museum are treating statues like this one so carelessly, the Parthenon
Marbles should not be housed in the museum for protection. The argument that people of the British
Museum say is that it was their right to have the sculptures be housed in the museum and they saved
them from further damage. Lord Elgin most likely saved the sculptures from further damage in
Greece, but they are not any more safe being held in the British Museum where there are many

The Influence of Media Technology and Information and Communication Technology
Today it is not sufficient to have knowledge and experience, it is indispensable to be able to share

Media and technology can be one type of channel ortoolbox to enhance the learning environment, but
I believe that they are not the only solution for achieving our educational goals. McLuhan (1964)
proposed the idea that medium is the message and the four tiered questions to evaluate new
technology when we think about applying it: what does it extend? ; what does it make obsolete? ; what
is retrieved? and what does the technology revert into if it is over extended? . I believe that if we
seriously rethink those questions before we determine what kind of technology we will use to
improveour teaching, it will lead us to a more neutral decision.

for the opportunity to strike and make his presence known, but he is just being outspent and is getting

not want to spend money on a perceived lost cause. Especially, with Trump dominating the election
and media cycles enhancing his first place lead. With that being said, Kasich and his campaign
managers are being exceptionally frugal and cost efficient with their limited funds (Levinson 2016).
Their budgeting skills and ability to save money for ads in New Hampshire and in the Super Tuesday

would not receive money on the level of Clinton or Cruz until Super Tuesday at the earliest. So, they
have done an exceptional job keeping Kasich in fourth place on a twelfth place budget.

  • 2. Relationship Between Police And Police Alannis J. Bremer Dr. Robyn McGee English 102 2 November 2017 Police Relations in Black America Numerous unjust losses covered by the media over recent years that involved African Americans and police officers are continuously dwelling in the minds of many today. All of these incidents involved excessive force by officers and many involved racial profiling as well. Following these incidents, many American s have vocalized their loss of trust with law enforcement officials through protest marches and riots. Everyone is demanding a solution for healing these poor relations between police officers and African American communities. Mass criminalization of victimless offenses are part of though the problem, as well as police weapons, though healing relations between police and the people goes much deeper than that. First one would have to ask why there is generally a culture of distrust and trepidation between police and African Americans. From runaway slave catchers in the 19th century, to Jim Crow enforcers in the 1960 s, to the drug war pillaging our communities, African Americans and police officers have never had a good relationship. The drug war of course is the bane on humanity period and isn t exclusive to African Americans, but in America it was formally introduced by the state into African American communities. Longstanding research conducted by the University of Florida indicated that race plays a primary factor in attitudes towards the police, with blacks more likely than white to express levels of dissatisfaction (Rice and Piquero 1). For the peace and safety of everyone, it is important Americans make an effort to mend these strained relationships. It s very true that most Americans tend not to look forward to having interactions with police officers. This isn t all surprising, of course. When something bad happens and a police officer responds, one is more than likely grateful for their service just as you would be with any other first responder, such as AAA or paramedics. This leads to a positive relationship between people and their civil servants. When one is meeting with an officer in a way that puts them in a position that in no way if for their protection, but rather contributes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Autism Cause And Effect Essay Autism: Cause and Effects Autism is a disorder characterized by severe difficulties in social interaction and communication and with unusual behaviors. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). This disorder is assumed to be caused by genetics, environmental toxins and/or prenatal care. (Harvard Medical School 2013). Social behaviors/interactions affected by Autism is the ability to process learning, communication and family/peer relationships. Autism is a disorder in which its cause makes it impossible to prevent and it takes a toll on its victim s everyday life tasks. Autism is a neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by severe and sustained impairment in social interaction, deviance in communication, and patterns of behavior and interests that are restricted, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Independent of the genome screens, evidence suggests that the region on chromosome 15q11 13 contains a gene or genes relevant to Autism. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Basically, there are suggestions that the chromosome 15q11 13 is somehow mutated, deleted, or duplicated, causing this disorder to transpire. In addition to genetics, environmental factors can influence Autism; though they are not greatly supported ideas, they can t be entirely ruled out. In the UK there have been reports of the measles vaccine having a part in causing this disorder. (Dr. David Pauls 2003). Newer studies have even shown that prenatal care before a woman even conceives reduces the risk extensively. Woman who did not take a daily multivitamin in the three months before conception and during the first month of pregnancy were almost twice as likely to give birth to a child with ASD as a woman who had taken a daily multivitamin. (The Harvard Mental Health Letter 2011). Multivitamins contain a lot of helpful vitamins to maintain a healthy pregnancy, but researchers suggest that the folic acid is the most significant influence that reduces the risk of a child born with ASD. • 4. Prisons and the UK Criminal Justice System The ongoing role of prison within the UK Criminal Justice System is becoming increasingly unclear. On the one hand in the 21st century, it is considered to be a state strategy for crime control, a deterrent for those contemplating crime and punitive response for those who have broken laws McAvinchey (2011 pg.10). On the other hand, it is also supposed to have a rehabilitative purpose, the intended role of a prison is to rehabilitate the offender so that when they have completed their prison sentence, they can be successfully rehabilitated back into the community and live a crime free fulfilled life. Yet, when examining the vital statistics that underline an increase in prisoner population, it is clearly apparent that the system neither ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Høidal , a prison officer in Halden prison Norway 2012 explains Everyone who is imprisoned inside Norwegian prisons will be released and will go back to society. We look at what kind of neighbour you want to have when they come out. If you stay in a box for a few years, then you are not a good person when you come out. If you treat them hard... well, we don t think that treating them hard will make them a better man. We don t think about revenge in the Norwegian prison system. We have much more focus on rehabilitation , Guardian newspaper (2012). This focus on rehabilitation as opposed to punishment appears to have had positive effects, as reoffending rates were less than 30% in 2013 in Norway, Guardian newspaper (2012). This was the lowest reoffending rate in Europe in that year; it is currently half of the reoffending rates within the UK. It could be said that this therapeutic type of prison is controversial, as one may argue that they are not punishing offenders for the crimes that they have committed, with the belief that prison life should not be enjoyable. Osbourne from the New York Times argues that prisons should not be a place of enjoyment if things are made... pleasant for convicts.. the result ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Seismic Activities In The United States Fracking: Main Cause of Seismic Activity in the Central Parts of the United States and Solutions for the Problems it Created Over the years there has been a multitude of earthquakes, which has been felt across the Great Plains Region in the United States and many other surrounding states. These states that do not normally have seismic activities are experiencing an increase of quakes near oil and natural gas sites. Many of the states that have not felt the seismic activities are now experiencing earthquakes. As a result there has been new research that has been devoted to the effects of hydraulic fracking. Hydraulic fracking is a technique that uses pressurized water to to break apart the shale and extract oil and gas. The fossil fuels that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many experts in this field say that the large number of seismic events in Kansas is directly linked to fracking. Although hydraulic fracking is an old process, it is more widely used today. (Petit, 2015, p. 14) The process that is being used for hydraulic fracking is by using pressurized water to break apart the layer of shale. After the water is removed it is filled with salt and many other minerals which are in the rocks. Once that is done, then the companies will transport it to a waste site. The disposal site can be several hundred or thousands of miles away, depending on where they must dispose wastewater. When the water is being disposed of the wastewater is being put underground in one of the disposal sites. When this is done there are certain regulations that must be followed. There are many scientists that have done research on the link between fracking and earthquakes. Wastewater disposal, at least in the U.S. has been the primary cause of earthquakes. as stated by Arthur McGarr. (BOB, n.d., para. 10) There are several people have differing opinions about hydraulic fracking. The likelihood that induced seismic events will occur in properly, permitted and operated [disposal wells] is very small, as stated by Edward Cross. (Wayne, 2015, para. 6) The experts in this field still have to determine when hydraulic fracking is the main cause of earthquakes or if the main cause of seismic activity is due to the disposal of wastewater. (BOB, n.d., para. 11) There are many people in the United States that think the same thing when it comes to fracking. When Americans were asked to explain the surge of the earthquakes many of them said that the cause was fracking. (Petit, 2015, p. 15) The industries that are using hydraulic fracking are trying to take the necessary precautions when it comes to facking and the disposal of the wastewater. Furthermore, ... The modern era, which encompasses the period between the climax of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twenty first century, has been a prosperous time for the fields of innovation, which may be composed of advances in technology and intangible knowledge. This period of time has included innovations such as the electrical system upon which nearly all homes operate, more comprehensive understanding of the field of astrophysics, advancements in the understanding of atomic theory, and innovations in the field of aeronautics. However, these advances are not the product of ordinary men; rather, they are the product of extraordinary thinkers, who, in all probability, will provide an influence on the world. In order for a person to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though his influence is not known by the general public as extensively as that of other modern thinkers, Nikola Tesla is the most likely candidate for a lasting influence upon the general public, due to the fact that his inventions and discoveries are visible in the lives of nearly all people. Despite the fact that Nikola Tesla is not the subject of the admiration of many, the inventions attributed to him have affected the lives of countless people throughout the world. Tesla, the Croatian born inventor, is responsible, in part, for the modern electrical system, which may be seen in nearly all residences, places of business, and places of debauchery. Tesla s contribution to the electrical system provided greater efficiency, due to the fact that his use of alternating current allowed for a requirement of fewer power stations within a given area, thus improving upon Edison s original vision ( Nikola Tesla ). Tesla s foray into the field of electricity was not limited to the electric system, thus Tesla is attributed with the creation of the induction motor, which may be seen in electric cars, fans used for the circulation of air, devices used within the hard drives of computers, and numerous other devices, thus Tesla is responsible for devices without which more advanced devices in the ... Service Oriented Architectures and Software Product Lines are two concepts that led to the emergence of Model Driven Architectures. Model Driven Architectures (MDA) is a concept that was developed by the Object Management Group (OMG) in 2001. [1] The concept of Model Driven Architectures was developed in order to tackle the challenges presented by complexity and change. Rapidly changing requirements and technologies introduce various changes in software. These changes, in turn, result in the introduction of complexity in software or a family of software. Model Driven Architectures attempt to connect platform specific and platform independent implementations in a software product line. [4] MDA Concepts The standard architecture for Model Driven Architecture involves certain concepts which are briefly explained in this section. A software system consists of a set of components and/or applications that communicate with each other. A model of such a system is its description ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Research Paper On False Memories Introduction False memories are memories which have never really occurred but the person who holds them is convinced of the opposite. Therefore, as Kenneth S. Pope specifies in his research, false memory syndrome is a condition in which a person s identity and interpersonal relationships are centered around a memory of a traumatic experience which is objectively false but which the person strongly believes. Truth be told, everyone may have memories which might not be true but the syndrome is confirmed only if the anamnesis affects and determines the person s whole personality and behavior. (Pope, n.d.) Research questions Serious false memories like child abuse are often mistaken as repressed ones which were recalled through therapy sessions with the help of a professional. This, however, brings around the controversy about whether repressed memories truly exist and if they do, whether they are accurate enough to be taken into consideration. Still, how can someone be certain that false memories are real occurrences since no one can travel back in time to verify them? Also if we accept them as an existing issue ... In order to support his view, Scheflin, cites numerous researches that had been contacted in order to prove that memories of dreadful events can be forgotten and recalled after a certain amount of time. For example, he refers to a survey in the early 90s that verified repressed memories when Father James Porter was convicted of sexual harassment of many young boys and girls after the testimony of his victims. Both men and women can experience the effects of sexism today but women seem to endure this injustice more. Women are often paid less than men and there is a glass ceiling which is the term used for the barriers that women face in being promoted to higher level jobs. • 11. Use Of Syntax And Imagery In Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart Edgar Allan Poe, an American writer, wrote many short stories in his lifetime. One of those stories is The Tell Tale Heart. In The Tell Tale Heart, a person murders an old man because of his eye. Poe has also written Hop Frog, where a king s jester murders the king and his seven ministers as revenge for striking his friend. In both stories, Poe uses narrative elements to develop a narrative point of view. He develops a third person objective point of view in Hop Frog, and develops a first person point of view in The Tell Tale Heart. Poe uses syntax and imagery to develop a point of view in both stories, but uses repetition and metaphors for one story and allusions and sarcasm for the other. Syntax and imagery help develop a point of view in both The Tell Tale Heart and Hop Frog. In The Tell Tale Heart, the story is mostly in a first person point of view. A narrator is recounting his murder of an old man. Since the story is in a first person point of view, readers can see the narrator s personal thoughts and opinions. Syntax helps characterize the narrator and show his personality. • 12. The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant Analysis Many people judge and assume others just by appearances. In the article, The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, we learn that sometimes appearances are not always what they seem. Below, that will be explained through plot elements. To begin, Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article, The Necklace uses one of the plot elements through the rising action to show the theme. The first way is when Mathilde borrows the necklace from her friend. The article states, Go and see Madame Forestier and ask her to lend you some jewels. You know her quite well for that. That shows that she can ask her friends for a necklace to make herself look good. Another quote is, Suddenly she discovers, in a black satin case, a superb diamond necklace . . . could you lend this to me, just this alone? Yes of course. That quote shows that Mathilde really wants to look nice, even though she cannot afford it. In conclusion, Mathilde wants to look nice even though she isn t that wealthy which supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. Another way Guy de Maupassant, the author of the article The Necklace uses one of the plot elements is through the falling action to show the theme. The one way is when Mathilde and her husband wear their everyday clothes after leaving the party around 4 o clock. The article states, She left about four o clock in the morning. Since midnight, her husband had been dozing in a deserted little room, in company with three other men whose wives were having a good time. He threw over her shoulders the garments he had brought for them to go home in, modest everyday clothes, whose poverty clashed with the beauty of the ball dress. She was conscious of this and was anxious to hurry away, so that she should not be noticed by the other women putting on their costly furs. That shows that Mathilde was embarrassed and wanted to leave the party as soon as possible. To sum up, Mathilde was embarrassed when wearing casual clothes and that supports the theme, many people judge and assume others just by appearances. • 14. The Policy Behind the Welfare Reform Act The Welfare Reform Act of 1996 was enacted in order to change the current welfare policy at the time. This welfare policy that existed was originally meant to provide financial assistance as well as decent healthcare coverage during times of economic hardship (Kaestner, 2004). This policy was implemented as a way to help hundreds of thousands of families overcome financial hurdles. However, the idea behind the reforming of welfare was to avoid the stereotypical individuals that lived off of welfare to continue doing so. Evidence existed that concluded that people who lived off of government welfare assistance were actually allowing this system to destroy their desire to work and sustain themselves (Rector Marshall, 2013). Welfare was seen as a detrimental part of the government and it was viewed as feeding into a lazy and poorly disciplined class of individuals. Welfare s initial intention was to aid widows who had children to support, but in a matter of decades the entire welfare system converted from being a safety net for individuals in dire times of need, to a support system for able bodied men who lacked motivation to find employment and sustain themselves and their families (Rector Marshall, 2013). The Welfare Reform Act came as a way to remedy these problems. Stipulations were put on those applying to receive welfare benefits. • 15. Little Miss Sunshine Analysis Little Miss Sunshine Essay Maia Falkner Little Miss Sunshine , is a film directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. This film is about a girl named Olive (played by Abigail Breslin) and her family, on their physical and emotional journey to a beauty pageant in California. In the film Little Miss Sunshine the important settings that helped me understand an idea was, backstage the beauty pageant, onstage the beauty pageant and a contrasting scene on the wharf. These three scenes helped me understand the idea of society s unrealistic false standards and the intense judgement of those that fall beneath these standards. The settings backstage and on stage the beauty pageant portray the idea that in order to obtain beauty , extreme lengths must be taken. In this setting young girls are stripped of their identity and objectified. The falseness of the makeup and spray tan automatically creates an air of self doubt and pressure to reach this unreachable perception of beauty . The setting on the wharf contrasts with the falseness of the pageant and exposes the idea that judgement is all throughout life and somewhat inescapable, that essentially life is one big beauty contest. The first setting that portrays the idea of society s unrealistic standards is backstage at the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant. This setting portrays this idea by showing us an environment in which the falseness is almost overbearing. The hotel in which the pageant takes place is filled with young girls being pampered by their mothers, spray tan, absurd amounts of makeup and over the top costumes. These all represent this terribly false perception of beauty and objectify these young girls. A downward, mid shot of a girl getting her legs spray tanned by her mother describes the distorted reality of this situation. The girl s face is out of the shot which is objectifying her and taking away her the identity. This is followed by a wide shot of Olive and Sheryl walking through the room showing products and clothes. In this shot, we see a huge contrast between the materialistic setting and the naturalness of Sheryl and Olive with their ordinary clothes, natural hair, and pale skin. The mise en scene of the hotel lobby reinforces the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slavery began when Americans brought Africans to Virginia in 1619 to complete any field work that plantation owners did not want to do themselves (History.com Staff). Slavery lasted in America for 246 years and even after, African Americans were still treated with disrespect from the white community. One of the many darkest and depressing events in the history of the United States was the practice of slavery. Two of the most famous slave narrative writers during the last three decades of legal slavery were Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs. Douglass was an American abolitionist, author and orator. He was born into slavery for roughly 20 years until he gained the courage to escape to the north and gain freedom (History.com Staff). Upon gaining his freedom, he created a friendship with an abolitionist known as William Lloyd Garrison. Uncertainty towards this concept is usually because of stigma surrounding drug use or confusing legalization with decriminalization. Decriminalising an illegal drug means taking away penalties for possessing that drug but leaving its distribution in the hands of criminals who can continue to contaminate the drug any way they see fit. Legalization by contrast brings narcotics entirely under government control. That means that when a drug is legalized, the government is the one in charge of regulating the sales, content, and distribution of the drug. The most universally effective example of a government deciding to legalize a dangerous substance, which in its unregulated state was killing over a thousand people a year, happened when the United States decided to legalize alcohol. Before it was legalized, alcohol in the Prohibition era was laced with poison and the alcohol content of a drink varied dramatically (Ostroff). Relationship Status Based On Social Sites Kayla Vallin Mr. Blair English 121 22 October, 2015 Relationship Status based on Social Sites(1027) We live in the era of technology and many people say that in a sense social networking has become their life line to the world. Social networking is a way for people from anywhere in the world to be involved in someone s life even from a distance. Social networking has redefined the way people interact with one another (Guo 617). Many of the social networking sites allow people to communicate what s going on in their life through pictures and from there other people can comment on the post. In today s world someone can be connected with the touch of a button. While social networking has affected and strained some relationships it has also had a positive impact on many other relationships. Expanding one s dating pool and meeting other people outside their community is one benefit social networking has to offer its users. Before social networking sites came along millions of adults in the united states were single, of theses adults they were limited to the amount of possible partners they could interact with due to location (Thomas and Rosenfeld 523). Since the introduction of social networking sites many relationships have flourished because people are no longer limited to who they can meet. • 27. Comparing Pascal s Wager In Catholicism And The Christian God Pascal s Wager is often considered one of philosophies weakest religious arguments to date. Pascal invents a wager to persuade the one who questions God into attending church, following the Ten Commandments, and following any other traditions in the Catholic Church. The wager is, if a person is a believer and after departing from this earth they find that they are correct, then their rewards are infinite. They will receive eternal life and a relationship with God in heaven. On the other hand if a person is a non believer and after death they find that they are incorrect, then their loss is infinite. Meaning they have the possibility of eternal damnation and separation from God. There are another two possibilities, in which God does not exist and the believer is incorrect and the non believer is correct. Both of these scenarios have finite rewards or finite losses. Depending on matter of opinion, one could say that a life doing good works and being part of a community is a reward in itself whether or not God actually exists but to someone else it could be a restriction or a loss of freedom. None the less, if God turns out to not exist the atheist and the theist would only have finite consequences. Pascal s Wager is rooted in Catholicism and the Christian God. It seems like we had been running for days and my feet had never felt pain this agonizing until now. We slid through the woods like a snake slithering towards its prey until we began to hear voices. They echoed through the trees and would not stop. Ducking behind opaque bushes, we waited for the signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steal away to Jesus! Steal away, steal away home! • 30. Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink Overview In Malcolm Gladwell s novel Blink, the author conveys a message on the significance and power of our snap judgements and split second decisions. He explains the influential strength of our subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, thin slicing . Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, If he [researcher John Gottman] analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success rate is around 90 percent. From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on how to exploit these instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to think without thinking . However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by fatal police shootings conducted by officers who ve misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo s case. Additionally, thin slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. Overall, Gladwell provides his readers with a wholesome perspective on thin slicing before stating his opinion on the benefits and successes of utilizing our natural human intuitions to live more ... He also made quotes that are still famous today. This song and these quotes are similar to each other, but they also are different from each other. In these ways, This Land is Your Land is similar to Woody s quotes. First of all, they are similar because they both say Woody will never give up singing until his very last second on Earth. He states it in the quotes, where he says I will fight those songs to my very last breath of air and my last drop of blood. In the song, he says nobody living can ever stop me. Another similarity is they are saying that everyone is worth it, everyone has a place. That is what Woody believed in. • 34. The Parthenon Marbles Located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece, the Parthenon is the most famous and most important piece of architecture in Greece. Standing in ruins as a former temple dedicated to the Greek Goddess of wisdom, Athena, the Parthenon has held the most important sculptures made by the Greeks. During the 1800s, when Greece was under the control of the Ottomans, sculptures from the Parthenon were sent to Britain by Lord Elgin for safe protection. The Parthenon Marbles have since then never been returned to the Greeks. The sculptures, currently housed in the British Museum in London, should be returned to their homeland because they are part of Greece s culture, they have a safe home ready for them in the Acropolis Museum, they are not being cared for as they should, it would most likely boost the economy, and the English did not have the right to take them in the first place. The statue that was damaged was an Ancient Roman statue, called The Townley Venus, and has been in the British Museum collection for more than 200 years. If people who are employed by the museum are treating statues like this one so carelessly, the Parthenon Marbles should not be housed in the museum for protection. The argument that people of the British Museum say is that it was their right to have the sculptures be housed in the museum and they saved them from further damage. Media and technology can be one type of channel ortoolbox to enhance the learning environment, but I believe that they are not the only solution for achieving our educational goals. McLuhan (1964) proposed the idea that medium is the message and the four tiered questions to evaluate new technology when we think about applying it: what does it extend? ; what does it make obsolete? ; what is retrieved? and what does the technology revert into if it is over extended? . I believe that if we seriously rethink those questions before we determine what kind of technology we will use to improveour teaching, it will lead us to a more neutral decision. Not everyone, especially potential donators, share Kasich s optimism and do not want to spend money on a perceived lost cause. Especially, with Trump dominating the election and media cycles enhancing his first place lead. With that being said, Kasich and his campaign managers are being exceptionally frugal and cost efficient with their limited funds (Levinson 2016). Their budgeting skills and ability to save money for ads in New Hampshire and in the Super Tuesday states may be a source of Kasich s optimism. They were acutely aware from the beginning that they would not receive money on the level of Clinton or Cruz until Super Tuesday at the earliest.
