King Pellinore In The Once And Future King
Only a Pellinore can catch it that is, of course, or his next of kin. Train all the Pellinores with that idea
in mind. Limited eddication, rather. Fewmets, and all that (White 23). King Pellinore is a minor
character with some major roles in T.H. White s The Once and Future King. King Pellinore shows
many different personality traits in the novel. King Pellinore is comical, virtuous, and dedicated. To
begin with, King Pellinore is comical in The Once and Future King. King Pellinore s comical side is
displayed widely throughout the novel. King Pellinore s appearance is shown as a comical one. When
Pellinore lifted up his visor, it revealed, two enormous eyes frosted like ice (White 22). These eyes
turned out to be spectacles that were, fogged by being inside the helmet (White 22). King Pellinore s
appearance was further established as comical when his helmet s visor continuously kept closing.
King Pellinore is also shown as comical through his clumsiness. When Wart first meets Pellinore,
Pellinore nearly falls off his horse. He also dropped his lance and his spectacles. As he bends over to
get his items, his visor continues to shut. This adds to King Pellinore s comical characteristic.
Additionally, King Pellinore is virtuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King Pellinore is most dedicated to his expedition. He has been dedicated to hunting the Questing
Beast for a long period of time. Funny thing that. Now I have been lost for seventeen years (White

dedication to his expedition when he has the chance to kill the Questing Beast. Instead of ending his
lifelong quest, he allows it to continue by caring for the Questing Beast when it is unwell. This shows
that Pellinore is dedicated to what he does best, hunting the Questing

Overcrowding In Corrections
First, funding in corrections should be a main priority, but it is not and this causes a lot of issues
within institutions. Prison overcrowding has been a major issue in our country since President Nixon
declared the War on drugs in 1970, but funding plays a key role with overcrowding just like the War
on drugs. Prisons are being filled to capacity and this is forcing prisons to transfer inmates to other
prisons in different states. According to insidetime.org, between the years of 2009 and 2010, 1500
inmates were transferred every week. Transferring inmates from prison to prison interrupts
rehabilitation programs and training and it can affect families. For example, Eli Coates, who is
incarcerated in Arizona for armed robbery was serving one

2.3 DISADVANTAGES OF MAX WEBER AND THE CONCEPT OF BUREAUCRACY
Despite the clear advantages of bureaucracy, one would wonder if they are really efficient. Nearly all
governmental organizations adopt this form of organization to some extent and weber claimed they
were capable of achieving the highest efficiency. Below are draw backs of bureaucracy concepts: (a)
Impersonality can ensure a common level of treatment but may also lead to stereotyping behavior and
lack of responsiveness to individual incidents. Relationships are inhibited, meaning that social and ego
needs are unsatisfied. (b) Human beings and individual circumstances vary pretty much infinitely and
trying to apply rigid rules can mean inefficiency, even injustice, in ... Show more content on

The illumination and interviewing studies, on the other hand, involved whole departments of workers.
From these experiments, the final core conclusions that the researchers reached were that the
experimental variables such as incentive payment had little effect, while that the unmeasured quality
of human relations of workers to management and peer group was responsible for most output
improvement (Gale, 2004).
3.1 ADVANTAGES OF THE HAWTHORNE EXPERIMENTS
In the past, managers considered workers as machinery that could be bought and sold easily. To
increase production, workers were subjected to long hours, miserable wages and undesirable working
conditions. The welfare of workers and their need were disregarded. The Hawthorne studies helped in
shaping transformations in many areas of human relations and brought about radical changes in
organizational behavior.
The traditional popular belief that increasing output of an organization was directly related to
increasing workers wages was disproved. Experiments conducted by Mayo proved that there were
more than economic factors that improved efficiency. Consequently, human relations were a key
component to improve organizational output as evidenced from tests conducted.
The Hawthorne experiments evolved the rest pauses as cardinal for well being and effectiveness of
workers and efficient

Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass
Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal
growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as
Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age
theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union,
and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to
cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s
work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is
unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square
series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work
is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal
interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality.
As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to
Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. She self
named the process as Kiln Transformed Glass. Culler s daring in functionality directly affected the
process she now embraces. This process enables her to combine three forms of glass art; Kiln Formed

Summary Of Till We Have Faces
Grant Petersen Honors English 10 10/1/17 Block 1 Book Report #1 Till We Have Faces (C.S. Lewis)
One of the nation s most recognized novels is the renowned classic Till We Have Faces. Written by
C.S. Lewis, this classic is a one for one first person journalized memoir from the perspective of a since
exiled elderly ruler Orual, who has yet to meet her goals of castigating the gods of her time.
Throughout the novel, Lewis includes an interesting plot that encompasses a strange but vivid course
of elements. Moreover, Lewis manages to symbolically capture some of the most fascinating aspects
of human culture from past to modern day living. As for the story s plot, a series of settings, ideas, and
events construct this rather dire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This process is completed by compelling the reader to include themselves in all manner of physical
senses. This will inevitably emulate an evocative inner world to the extent where the reader can have
an approximate understanding of the actual emotions and struggles dealt with by the novel. On the
second hand, with much trial and tribulation does much learning and upskill come. As the title of the
book suggests, Orual asks How can they (The gods) meet us face to face till we have faces? (294). In a
great deal of the book, Orual hides her ugliness behind a veil which consequently causes her to be
contextually blind from the aftermath of her actions. Thus, the question implies the idea that one
should come to a fuller understanding of themselves to shave away their afflictions and illusions. This
will allow others (Or the gods), to have the ability to open up and express necessary material. Orual
comes to this conclusion at the end of the book during her judgment. A long tough ridden journey of
trial and tribulation has eventually paid off as greater knowledge and a wider perspective. To succor,
many of the novel s symbols assist in understanding the characters and plot. Like many other stories
despite the novel s appalling plot, some of the most prominent characters represent a somewhat Christ
like exemplary figure in some given manner. A prime example, for instance, is Psyche s appearance to

The First Ten Days Of College Essay
The first ten days of college are some other experience. When I arrived on campus for the Eagle
Incentive Program it was in the high nighties with some humidity. Moving in wasn t that bad, it was
just extremely hot. I was breaking a sweat walking up and down the Southern Pines stairs. The next
day was time to say goodbye to my family. After giving my mom a big warm hug and a kiss goodbye,
seeing them leave was a weird feeling. As I walked up the stairs to head back in my room the feeling
really crossed my mind that I wasn t going to see her again for another five weeks. It was an emotional
few seconds saying goodbye, but I knew my mom was proud of my accomplishments that I achieved.
Motived to work hard and make her even more of a proud mother; my sad emotions soon turned into
happy thoughts.
Well, it was not long before my mom was disappointed in me. My first week here I actually got
myself in debt and my parents were furious at me. They told me in a serious tone that if that ever
happens again, I will have to make myself money. Money management has already gotten me by the
tail. Back at home, I could spend money here and there because I had a job and was getting paid
weekly. Unemployed now because of moving to Statesboro, I only get 35$ put on my debit card a
week. My spending that week was on three meals from Zaxbys and my money was gone. Thirty five
dollars may seem like a lot, but it flies by in college. In an article on usnews.com it states Talking to

Jelly Fish Research Paper
Scientists have only explored around 5% of the oceans. To put that into perspective Scientists have
better maps of venus and mars then scientists do the oceans. With that little explored space there are
many species of fish that have had to adapt to harsh living conditions. A way fish evolve to to live in
these areas is to have more defense, Some fish have venom like the box jellyfish. The Box Jellyfish is
one of the most dangerous species of jellies. Their venom can kill a fully grown human in as little as
three minutes! The first person to ever survive a box jellyfish sting was a 10 year old girl named
Rachael Shardlow.

existed in the same for over 100 million years. Jellyfish have also existed in essentially the same for
around 500 million years. Deep sea creatures have evolved in some pretty weird ways. Like the
Anglerfish. When Anglerfish mate they morph together and are like that forever. Some deep sea
marine fish have both male and female sex organs and many can change sex as well. Some of the
creatures have evolved to live off of chemical energy instead of sun light. In conclusion marine life is
very diverse and strange. They have stunning beauty and amazing defensive mechanisms. They have
been around for millions of years but haven t looked like they do since about 1 million years ago.

Policy Of Appeasement
There were many causes that led to the outbreak of the war. Many blame the Treaty of Versailles,
others the League of Nations, and others blame the Policy of Appeasement. The Treaty of Versailles
put restrictions on Germany, blamed the cause of WW1 on it, and also made Germany pay for war
reparations. The League of Nations was made to keep world peace by preventing wars and such by
solving any disputes in a peaceful manner. The Policy of Appeasement was a policy between Hitler
and Chamberlain which gave a piece of Czechoslovakia to Germany in order to keep Hitler from
starting a war with them and to keep peace. Although all of these reasons play a major role in the
cause of World War 2 I believe the main cause was the League of Nations.

Compare And Contrast Nero And Tiberius
Nero and Tiberius both started off as great leaders of Rome. Throughout their leadership many events
occurred that caused the general publics view to change on both of them. Comparing Nero, the
careless leader to Tiberius, the leader with great accomplishments I found that they are complete
opposites. Analyzing the accomplishments, treatment of people, and the overall personality of Nero
and Tiberius it can be concluded that Tiberius is a better leader than Nero.
Nero and Tiberius were two leaders who were liked by the public. Both starting their reigns young,
Nero and Tiberius accomplished many things. Gaining the public s eye, Nero gave Claudius a lavish
funeral and personally delivered the oration in person. He founded a colony at Antium consisting of
praetorian veterans, he gave the public an immense variety of entertainments, and even introduced his
own style of architecture. These accomplishments all played a role in how the public adored him.
Giving the public positive ideas will gain their trust, but unfortunately, he does not keep their trust. As
Nero became older, his accomplishments became less and less, he began turning into someone who
was in it for the money. His turning point was when he bankrupted Rome, once this happened Nero
was neither trusted or liked.
First beginning his reign, Tiberius gradually showed his people that he was in charge. He would only
intervene when things were not done properly. Tiberius began to decrease the expenses of public

Persepolis Analysis
In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, the protagonist, Marji, faces hardships and conflict as a
woman in Iran. When discussing conflict that Marji faces, politics is one topic that stands out the
most. Growing up in a war torn and corrupt country, Marji is exposed to violence at a young age and
is forced to mature quickly. As she grows older she experiments during a period of rebellion and
temporarily leaves her home country in an effort to find herself. However, much later, she circles back
to Iran and comes home to the same crumbling and oppressive system she has always resented. Even
though Marji may change as she travels to new places, grows older, and experiments with her self
expression, her constant strife with the Islamic Regime s political ideology remains.
Although Marji begins as an outspoken and confident young girl, she quickly has to adjust to the harsh
rules of society. Marji s first conflict arises when she is forced to wear a veil in school. One frame
shows her and all of her classmates playing different kinds of childish games with the veils they were
forced to wear. In one corner, a girl is jump roping with a veil, and in another corner, two girls are
faking an execution (Satrapi, 3, fr. 5). This is because Marji and her classmates do not understand why
they have veils and undermine the authoritative power by playing with them. Although a small event
in the novel, this mini revolt sets a precedent for Marji s actions in response to the regime s rules as
she grows older. Later in the story, she is inspired to join the revolution and make a change after
seeing her parents protesting. On one night, an audacious Marji storms into her parents room and
exclaims, I want to come with you tomorrow! To demonstrate on the street. I am sick and tired of
doing it in the garden. For a revolution to succeed, the entire population must support it (Satrapi, 16
17). Marji s eloquent words are that of someone who is willing to sacrifice his/herself to make change
in a corrupt system. In return for dealing with such heavy political issues, Marji is passionate about
protesting and expressing her disdain for the Iranian government. Though Marji eventually decides to
leave Iran for a short period of

Reflection About Fun Home
Fun Home is a Modern musical based on the graphic novel of the same name. Until this class I was
not familiar with this show. I had heard about it in passing but had never heard any of the music, did
not know the plot line, and I did not know the origins. When I heard that it had won a Tony, I knew it
had to be good but I was still a little skeptical since I did not know much about it. However, once I
saw it I can say that I was not disappointed. It had some great lessons that most of us can take away
even if we do not agree with the context of the lessons. For the most part, the actors did a phenomenal
job, and there were some insane vocals. The lighting and stage design were great. All of this was
topped off with some great music. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She nailed that role. One of the parts that hit me hardest was when she was telling college age Alison
to not come back home again because she did not want her to waist her life like she had. What made it
so powerful for me was how the actress took that pause right after she said don t come back. It made
me think that the mother was mad at Alison because of her being lesbian, but then she finished the
thought and the true message came through. It was just incredible how much weight can be put into
one pause. The only person I was not a huge fan of was the actor who played Roy. To start with he
came on as four different characters over the course of the show. While I know that is difficult to do it
is by no means impossible, and he seemed to struggle with it. I think the biggest issue that he was
having was that all his characters seemed very immature and almost childish. He did not seem to be
able to switch very easily from being an adult to being a high schooler so all his characters seemed to
sit somewhere in the middle. This just made the show feel off at some points which made me as an
audience member feel kind of strange and almost uncomfortable. Other than that, I thought the
performance was very well done. Another aspect of the show that I really liked was the music. Not all
music is created equally, and just because this show is a musical does not mean that the music is that
great. However, this show delivered on that front with flying colors. Every

Freud s Views on Forgetting a Proper Name and Dream Analysis
In several of his books, including Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis and On Dreams, Freud
combines the topics of forgetting a proper name and dream analysis, formulating a thesis that helps to
clarify his theories on both. He describes in psychoanalytic terms the mechanisms behind forgetting of
a proper name and how they relate to the methods used in dream analysis. By looking at the two topics
from a joint perspective, we can gain a greater understanding of them and how they relate to other
areas of psychoanalysis. The tendency toward forgetting of a proper name is an important theme in

Or again: there are cases in which the parapraxes multiply, form chains, and replace one another
#8230; (ILp 35 36) It is in this line that understanding the preconscious becomes important.
Preconscious describes a division of the mind that falls in between repression (unconscious) and
recognition (conscious). Freud described thoughts in the preconscious as having crossed the threshold
from the unconscious mind, but not yet having caught the eye of consciousness (IL p366). The
preconscious is an important element in the dynamic between an individual s conscious intention and
their counter will, because it falls somewhere in the middle and may be the most manifested part of
the phenomenon. For instance, when a proper name is forgotten, this is a function of repression. The
individual unconsciously wants to forget one thing, but the counter will resists by forgetting another. It
is when a name is on the tip of the tongue but still unclear that countless other irrelevant names will
come to mind; these irrelevant names are the inhabitants of the preconscious. The case detailed in The
Psychopathology of Everyday Life, in which Freud discusses his own experience with the forgetting
of a proper name, is a good example of a clear analysis of the mechanism Freud saw behind this
phenomenon. He explains the situation, and will later go on to fully analyze its significance:
The name that

Why Is Occipital Lobe Important

The occipital lobe is very much important to able to correctly understand what your eyes are seeing.
These lobes have to be fast to process the information that our eyes are sending. Similar to how the

Juvenile Delinquent Crimes
What is considered a juvenile delinquent? Criminal courts would say that a juvenile delinquent is a
child that is between the ages of 7 to 14 years of age. Nowadays, 14 year old children can be charged
with certain crimes that may be handled like adults. Today, many states determine that a child is
considered to be a juvenile until the age of 18; however, in some states they set limits at 16 and 17
years of age. Under the age of 18, many offenses are considered juvenile delinquency. We see that
crimes that are committed by juveniles have increased with violent crimes, drug crimes, gangs, and
many more. With this in mind, some may argue to charge the juvenile as an adult based on the
seriousness of the crime. These delinquent acts are considered to be crimes that may be committed by

Desire In The Symposium
In Plato s The Symposium, a group of well versed men consider philosophical arguments, specifically
regarding the role desire plays in a virtuous life. As academics and philosophers who hold high rank in
the social system of ancient Greece, these men are praised for their wisdom and eloquence. One such
philosopher, Pausanias, gives a speech early in the text that addresses desire as a multifaceted concept,
setting the tone for the novel. The Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Indian text that is much revered in
modern Hindu culture, considers the same concepts of desire and virtue, but is written as a dialogue
between the warrior prince Arjuna and his charioteer, the deity Krishna. Within the text, Krishna
addresses Arjuna s concerns regarding his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, for Pausanias, desire of such worldly and mortal objects is a manifestation of an inferior
type of love. Of the man who succumbs to this love, Pausanias says, He is not constant, because he
loves something that is not constant: as soon as the bloom of the body fades, which is what attracted
him, he flies away and is gone , bringing disgrace on all he said and promised, (Plato 16). The fickle
nature of worldly desire is illuminated by the flower metaphor Pausanias uses; the beauty of a flower,
the bloom, is akin to the superficiality of earthly desire, and neither is the foundation of lasting love.
Physical desire and the resulting attachment to the material world cause disgrace for the soul who
delights in such cravings. While Pausanias warns against over attachment to physical objects in The
Symposium, the deity Krishna completely condemns the material world in The Bhagavad Gita. For
Krishna, desire of sensuous objects is the root of evil, trapping the soul and bringing it
harm.Concerned only with these sensuous object, Arjuna is rebuked on the battlefield by Krishna, who
says, Contacts with matter make us feel heat and cold, pleasure and pain. Arjuna, you must learn to
endure fleeting things they come and go! (Miller 33). Krishna extends Pausanias s warning to all
physicality, saying that desire of any physicality is dangerous to the soul. In a

The Analytical Method Of Marx And Engels
Firestone uses the analytical method of Marx and Engels to create a theoretical frame which includes
issues of oppression based on sex. I found her distinction between what Marx and Engels specifically
say about women and the family model and her theory of a greater understanding of how gender
works dialectically and materially very helpful. I also connected with her assertion that issues of
gender seem to pervade every part of social life and that many women give up in despair... because of
how deep the issues go (Firestone 90). I think this statement is often true because accepting that
patriarchy exists in such a multifaceted way can be overwhelming and disheartening. Moreover, I also
appreciated the idea that [b]efore we can act to change a situation, however, we must know how it has
arisen and evolved, and through what institutions it now operates (Firestone 90). This seems like an
important way to bridge the gap between theory and activism. I think it is important for activists to
consider the assumptions they are working under before they take action. Although I think a lack of
action is a legitimate criticism of modern feminism, we still need to know what we are fighting for.
I also found Firestone s point that ...so profound a change cannot be easily fit into traditional
categories of thought to be both profound and indicative of her own assumptions as a theorist
(Firestone 91). Just as Marx provided a limited but beautiful piece of theoretical work, so does

To initiate the discussion about this possibility, the perspectives of multiple science, technology,
educational and societal interests will be included. The possibilities for disenfranchised communities
to engage in this practice to get them out of poverty in remote locations with the appropriate access to
technological education makes of this problem an interesting and compelling one. The PI presents a
list of initial questions that for sure could be further refined through the online meetings with the
initial team he has assembled. Some of them are: How should Micro Manufacture operations be
organized? How do we prepare workers to have the flexible range of skills and knowledge to function
in Micro Manufacture concerns? How do we design products and processes suited to efficient Micro
Manufacture? What are the units of modularity to support the range of products that may be produced?
How do we evolve supply chains to handle the highly fragmented supply graphs that may be endemic
of distributed Micro Manufacturing? The online engagement is certainly needed, as the questions need
to be narrowed down, and perhaps make of this the first of a couple of workshops. One building on the
second. The first one to engage social scientists, particularly economist, and supply chain experts as
well as education researchers in a discussion of the impact of micro manufacturing in the economy at

How Does Robin Hood Show Courage
In the English story of Robin Hood, the peasant turned bandit is well known for stealing money from
the rich and giving it to the poor. In the Chinese myth, Mulan, the warrior protagonist is famous for
taking her father s place in the army. In the story of Robin Hood, the peasant works out of kindness
and humanity to give money to those who actually need it. In the story of Mulan, she acts on behalf of
caring for her family. Robin and Mulan are both warriors who fight for what they feel is right. In
Robin Hood s case, there is justification that can be found in today s society. For Mulan, however, it is
more of filial piety that motivates her to act. She cannot let her old weak father fight in the war,
because it would mean certain death. Whereas Robin Hood s fight is ... Show more content on

Robin shows his bandit personality by being quick on his feet, stealing from people, and being very
cunning when it comes to working with the rich. Over the course of 700 years, the outlaw from
Nottinghamshire who robs from the rich to give to the poor has emerged as one of the most enduring
folk heroes in popular culture and one of the most versatile. He also has associated himself with other
bandits, which allows him to team up with them to work on certain tasks that he wants done. The way
the Western World looks at the ideal people, is why Robin Hood is considered a hero. One way is that
he did not allow the the upper class to push him around, instead in stole from them. Next, we see him
as a common person but that did not stop him from accomplishing the goals that he had for himself
and others. Looking at society, Robin was not very fond of where things were lying and were trying to
change them. This goes with our way of thought because we constantly seek conflict and that is what
he did. One last thing is that Robin was always trying to help the community out and that is what we
as a society look at in a successful

Terrorism And Terrorism In America
No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion
... People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love... ...For love
comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. (Linton) This is a quote inspired/taken
from Mandela, and then tweeted in a series by former President Barrack Obama following a terrorism
rally in Charlottesville that took place August 2017. Terrorism in America is seen as foreigners coming
into the country and causing an uproar that includes countless deaths and injuries; however, terrorism
is already here. Terrorism and terrorist acts happen because of actual citizens in the United States of
America, yet people are not seeing them as acts of terrorism. The Collin s English Dictionary states
the definition of terrorism is, the act of terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate,
and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy (Collins English Dictionary). By this
definition, school shootings, riots that cause destruction, and attacks by American citizens on other
innocent citizens is an act of terrorism. Terrorism is meant to make a statement. While some terrorism
is done out of spite by a mentally disturbed person with erotic thoughts, some attacks are done to
cause an uproar and to scare a population, and others are thought out due to the desire of wanted
change in society (typically due to ideals derived from teachings

I Had Someone Who We Are All A Product Of Our Environment
Recently I had someone say to me, we don t know who we are because we are all a product of our
environment. That said, the question remains: Are we defined by our environment and merely a
product of it, or we posses the ability to make decisions despite it? The age old question of who am I
kept stirring in my mind. It got me thinking about how I define myself and how the environment that I
grew up in has shaped me. My first thought was Wait a minute I know who I am, I think? So I made a
list of the obvious; wife, mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, etc. Looking at that list I
realized that those labels were just words used to define my relationships to other people.
I have never really thought about the labels that define my relationships they are just words. I seldom
thought about how the culture or environment I grew up in affected me or my relationships to others. I
took these things for granted. Can we control the environment we re born into? Are we supposed to
somehow see beyond the culture we were raised in; The culture that compels us to act, live and think
in certain ways?

Brave New World Theme Analysis Essay
God isn t compatible with machinery and scientific medicine and universal happiness. So says
Mustapha Mond, the World Controller for Western Europe in Aldous Huxley s novel Brave New
World. In doing so, he highlights a major theme in this story of a Utopian society. Although the people
in this modernized world enjoy no disease, effects of old age, war, poverty, social unrest, or any other
infirmities or discomforts, Huxley asks is the price they pay really worth the benefits? This novel
shows that when you must give up religion, high art, true science, and other foundations of modern
life in place of a sort of unending happiness, it is not worth the sacrifice.
True, the citizens of this brave new world do enjoy many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One might be led to believe that this society is a perfect place to live, since all the inhabitants are
eternally happy. There are no wars, pain, or suffering, all definite pluses, yet readers must not judge
too quickly.
Everything comes at a price, and the price that is paid for the new order is sadly high, costing the
Utopians the benefits of high art, true religion, real science, and family life, which all have been
removed to promote stability. Othello s better than those feelies. Of course it is But that s the price
we have to pay for stability. You ve got to choose between happiness and what people used to call high
art. We ve sacrificed the high art. We have the feelies and the scent organ instead. But they don t mean
anything, (Huxley 226) This conversation shows one of the tradeoffs made. Stories like Othello are
inspired by strong emotions, and Utopia has done away with them. Now, there is nothing to write
about, and if something was written along the lines of Othello it might cause people to think, causing
instability. The movies people see are idiotic and plotless, based solely on sensations. Religion as we
know it has been done away with also, as Mustapha Mond showed by his comments quoted at the
beginning of this paper. Religion usually involves self denial, and that is contrary to everything the
new society is based on. With instant gratification

The Effect Of Magic In Doctor Faustus And The Tempest
Christopher Marlowe s Doctor Faustus and William Shakespeare s The Tempest both examine the
effect of magic on one s morality. The protagonists of the plays, Faustus and Prospero respectively,
seek the power of knowledge and find it in magic, which is a superhuman source of power. Despite
the losses Faustus and Prospero suffer, they think magic is right on the grounds that it gets them what
they want. Magic is a means of achieving one s ends without effort and transcending the limitations of
the human condition (Paris 264). But when Faustus and Prospero renounce magic at the end of events,
they abjure the means that gave them power and knowledge. This is a change from their attitude
towards magic in the opening of Doctor Faustus and The Tempest, and it indicates a moral journey for
both characters. When they ultimately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Civil Rights Movement In The 1960 s
How did our country become not segregated and fair to African Americans? The answer to that is the
Civil Rights Movement that took place in the 1960s. This movement ignited when many African
Americans rebelled against unfair laws. One of those events was when Rosa Parks wouldn t give up
her seat on a public bus to a white person. What we forgot was Rosa wasn t the first to rebel against
bus segregation; 9 months before, Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat in the same city,
Montgomery, Alabama. Civil rights were a huge problem back in the 60s. African Americans were
separated from whites because whites consider them as dirty. According to Mack Lewis, author of The
Girl who got Arrested , on public buses, African Americans were required to give their seat to a white

having separate movie theaters, soda machines, water fountains, and even bathrooms. (Ellen Levine)

Renaissance Humanism Essay
Many diverse ideas flourished during the European Renaissance which had a lasting impact on the
world. Humanism is a worldview and a moral philosophy that considers humans to be of primary
importance. The aspect of humanism first thrived in 14th century Italy, and later spread north in the
15th century. Initially humanistic ideas about education were quickly adopted by the Italian upper
class. The Italian ideas and attitudes towards life and learning impacted nobility in other parts of

Humanism allowed people to realize that everyone s mind and thoughts were endless; the only
constraint being the imagination. During the Renaissance the aspect of a human s education was
equally important in the creation of well rounded individuals.
The philosophy of humanism exerted a new viewpoint on the educational system. The idea that true
happiness is the result of eternal salvation was introduced by humanist teachers. The Italian poet
Petrarch, delighted in studying the works of Cicero, explained that when we come to think or speak of
religion, that it, of supreme truth and true happiness, and of eternal salvation, then I am certainly not a
Ciceronian... but a Christian (doc.5). Education was important in the creation of well rounded
individuals, but humanists believed that religion is the key to true happiness. In addition to their
beliefs about the effects of religion on society, humanists promoted the study of language and
literature to develop strong social skills. This ultimately broadened every aspect of Renaissance
society. Establishing social skills can reward a person with ... the personal satisfaction he will take in

Is Emma A Dynamic Character
Can someone who seems selfish change for the better? Jane Austen says they can. In her novel Emma,
she describes the social and romantic ventures of the titular heroine. Full of entertaining
misunderstandings, the story can be passed off as a simple romantic comedy, and yet a complex and
dynamic character can be found in the main protagonist, Emma Woodhouse. Over the course of the
book, Emma changes significantly, eventually developing into a more responsible and mature young
woman. These changes can be seen in the beginning of the book, when Emma is portrayed as spoiled
and self deluded; towards the middle, when she starts to become more aware of herself and the people

Emma also says, I have been but half a friend to [Harriet] (Austen 92). Clearly, Emma is ashamed of
her errors, and realizes that she needs to make a change. Yet another quote to illustrate Emma s
journey to maturity is when Austen writes, How to understand it all! How to understand the deceptions

Elizabeth Brewster s Jamie uses imagery to convey the protagonist s isolation and his longing for
human connection. When Jamie turned sixteen, misfortune struck, making him deaf. He was
completely morose and walked about stunned by the terrible silence unable to comprehend what had
happened to him. People moved mouths without a sound escaping , this quote helps to understand the
disorientation and the panic Jamie must be feeling not being able to hear anything. He shuddered at
the straining of their throats , symbolizes Jamie s insecurity which causes him to think that people are
speaking about him and criticizing him. Consequently, he chooses a life of isolation away from
judgmental eyes, working at odd jobs which don t require much human interaction. Jamie is compared
to a stone as he becomes cold, hard and solitary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

aloud suggests that Jamie is nearing a borderline maniacal state due to his self segregation from the
rest of humanity. Jamie comes back to the woods and dreams of shining cowboy heaven as the guns
crashed through his deafness . He dreams of a place where he is not deaf anymore and is in his own

Environmental Sociology Essay
Development processes is connected with environmental degradation and use of natural resources.
Rudel et al. (2011) assumes the present of two distinct waves of development power which control
environment. The first wave of political economy deals with the power of capitalism as the main agent
for environmental degradation, while the second wave concern with the social power (community) to
control the use of natural resources.
In this first wave scenario, the idea is that capitalism is a significant power for shaping the
performance of environment. IPAT/STIRPAT Theory proposes that capitalism is the cause for

(2011) provides examples of this theory by pointing the heavy industrial production in East Asia and
former socialist countries after World War II. Principally, Treadmill Production Theory do not consider
population and affluent as significant factor for environmental degradation, and put more emphasis on
the issue of technology as the main contributor for the decrease of environmental quality. Both the
IPAT/STIRPAT and Treadmill Production theories overlook the condition behind the scene , why the
technology exists in the process of development. In other words, these theories do not consider the
social actors which are responsible for the present of this technology.
Indeed, the coercion of capital to exploit natural resources is possible only because it is supported by
the conglomeration of powerful social actors behind it. According to Growth Machine Theories,
syndication of vested interests (government, land owners, developers, real estate companies), which
often claim themselves as pro growth coalition, encourages local development through real estate
business activities, while excluding the interest local population who previously occupy the sites for

What are the advantages and disadvantages of telling stories using moving images?
The overall objective and purpose of telling a story is to engage with the audience to convey the
meaning of a plot and create a human connection on an emotional level (Batty p292). Stories can be
told in a variety of ways, and the method by which a story/narrative is told determines the way in
which we connect and interact with it emotionally. Each mode of story telling is capable of presenting
the same story in different ways. Humans are capable of both understanding and interpreting the
different content and style associated with different modes of story telling.
For the purpose of this essay I contend that a moving image is one that is viewed upon a ... Show more

Without the presence of any dialogue a feeling can be created by the way the camera moves and
reveals what is on screen. Whether this be a pan across the screen, a slow or fast zoom in or out, a
certain perspective shot or a point of view. The way the camera moves, allows the audience to feel a
sense of involvement as if they are part of the action because of the accompanying movement of the
eye following what is happening on screen (Ganz p228).
As Bubb states technology now offers speed and fluidity (p370). In story telling this relates to the pace
at which the information is understood and also the structure in which the information is presented.
When using moving images to tell a story the control over space and time that the storyteller has is
very different to that when telling a story using the written or spoken word. The film Pulp Fiction by
Quentin Tarantino demonstrates the notion of being able to control and manipulate the relation
between space and time very well. It is a film with a complex narrative that has a non linear structure,
where a combination of interlinked stories are told out of order, yet the flow of the narrative still runs
smoothly and keeps the audience in suspense. The irregular pattern in the film where it fluctuates and
jumps from scene to scene shows a combination of images that are discontinuous moments, rendered
continuous (Ganz 2010 p 229). We have the knowledge that these moments clearly can not

Breaking Stereotypes
Stereotypes are prevailing and oversimplified ideas of particular groups of people or certain things,
and they have been around for a long time. Stereotypes are immensely detrimental to a myriad of
people because they abject and discriminate them, as well as cause division and separation amongst
certain communities. Breaking stereotypes is important due to the social climate that we are currently
in today. Racism and discrimination are ubiquitous because people of colour are painted in a negative
light due to the stereotypes they are given.
Stereotypes are harmful for many reasons; one being that gender stereotypes, specifically, objectify
and are demeaning to women (or anyone who identifies as a female). In my Stereotype Student
Interview Protocol, Student #2 told me, ...people think that women are weak...are great at
cleaning...and it is their job to take care of the children. Another student also told me an anecdote on
how teachers always chose the males to help them with certain tasks, as though it was a man s job and
that women are unable to do such a task. Comments and actions like ... Show more content on

They ignore and disregard the humainess, potential, and uniqueness of people; along with causing
division and separation in certain communities. In Grappling With Gentrification As A Middle Class
Black American, Kashana Cauley explains, The traditional understanding of gentrification hinges on
black racial stereotypes, which presumes blacks to be poor and whites to be wealthy. This
authenticates the fact that people of colour are perceived to be subordinate to whites, which
substantially diminishes them as people. Additionally, according to How a Self Fulfilling Stereotype
Can Drag Down Performance, ...reminding African Americans and Latinos about their race...can hurt
their performance. This ratifies that people s confidence and performance is deteriorated once they are
reminded about racial

Substance Abuse In Little Rock Arkansas Essay
Addiction Treatment Centers in Little Rock, Arkansas
Addiction treatment centers in Little Rock, Arkansas have the reputation and renowned quality service
that you want in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities. Prospective patients, and sometimes their
families, come from all over the U.S. to enter into treatment at the outpatient care centers or the
addiction treatment centers in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Substance abuse is a tragedy that touches many lives. Abuse begins with a single use event that, with
continued use and overindulgence, transforms into a battle. The abuser most always loses that battle.
Personal relationships, social ties, and employment suffers. Irresponsible and erratic behavior becomes
the norm, and though the abuser is aware on some level of the reckless and thoughtless acts that they
commit, they continue to use and abuse their drug of choice. What starts as experimentation often ends
in addiction. The best hope for a person in the grips of substance abuse is immediate, ... Show more

Addiction claims the user through physiological dependence that creates a need for the drug of choice
on a very basic level. Through repeated substance abuse, the user gains tolerance for the drug, needing
it in larger amounts, and on a more frequent basis, until the body cannot function normally without the
drug. Withdrawal symptoms now also occur upon attempting to halt use. This is how substance abuse
becomes the disease of addiction.
The physical, emotional, and psychological effects of addiction have the potential to make the addict
vulnerable to a great many symptoms and disorders including paranoia, depression, anxiety, PTSD
and other co existing mental disorders, cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, heart attack, organ
failure, hepatitis B C, memory lapses, incontinence, poor oral health and gum disease, skin lesions and
disease, and many more.

  • 2. King Pellinore In The Once And Future King Only a Pellinore can catch it that is, of course, or his next of kin. Train all the Pellinores with that idea in mind. Limited eddication, rather. Fewmets, and all that (White 23). King Pellinore is a minor character with some major roles in T.H. White s The Once and Future King. King Pellinore shows many different personality traits in the novel. King Pellinore is comical, virtuous, and dedicated. To begin with, King Pellinore is comical in The Once and Future King. King Pellinore s comical side is displayed widely throughout the novel. King Pellinore s appearance is shown as a comical one. Prison overcrowding has been a major issue in our country since President Nixon declared the War on drugs in 1970, but funding plays a key role with overcrowding just like the War on drugs. Prisons are being filled to capacity and this is forcing prisons to transfer inmates to other prisons in different states. According to insidetime.org, between the years of 2009 and 2010, 1500 inmates were transferred every week. From these experiments, the final core conclusions that the researchers reached were that the experimental variables such as incentive payment had little effect, while that the unmeasured quality of human relations of workers to management and peer group was responsible for most output improvement (Gale, 2004). 3.1 ADVANTAGES OF THE HAWTHORNE EXPERIMENTS In the past, managers considered workers as machinery that could be bought and sold easily. To increase production, workers were subjected to long hours, miserable wages and undesirable working conditions. The welfare of workers and their need were disregarded. The Hawthorne studies helped in shaping transformations in many areas of human relations and brought about radical changes in organizational behavior. The traditional popular belief that increasing output of an organization was directly related to increasing workers wages was disproved. Analysis Of Rene Culler s The Glass Rene Culler s career in glass which spans nearly 30 years consistently shows themes of both personal growth and an increasing insight into mysticism throughout her work. Mysticism is defined as Mystical, mysterious, and filled with wonder, mysticism is easily associated with crystals, New Age theories, or the occult (the supernatural). The truth is the emphasis on spiritual connection and union, and the mysteries of religion over dogma or rigid rules. Outside of religion, mysticism is applied to cryptic, obscure, or irrational thought leaning toward mystery and wonder, rather than logic. Culler s work shows her fascination with mysticism and her journey in an concentrated combination of what is unexpected in the context of personal experiences in her Head and Heart, Grail, and Magic Square series to name an few. Perhaps one of the most intriguing and thought provoking aspects of her work is that Culler presents items that could have a purpose and then transforms them into an surreal interpretation of practicality shrouded in experienced reality. As a method of constantly challenging a perceived functionality process became very important to Culler, so much so that she developed her own technical process to create her sculptures. Throughout their leadership many events occurred that caused the general publics view to change on both of them. Comparing Nero, the careless leader to Tiberius, the leader with great accomplishments I found that they are complete opposites. Analyzing the accomplishments, treatment of people, and the overall personality of Nero and Tiberius it can be concluded that Tiberius is a better leader than Nero. Nero and Tiberius were two leaders who were liked by the public. Both starting their reigns young, Nero and Tiberius accomplished many things. Gaining the public s eye, Nero gave Claudius a lavish funeral and personally delivered the oration in person. He founded a colony at Antium consisting of praetorian veterans, he gave the public an immense variety of entertainments, and even introduced his own style of architecture. These accomplishments all played a role in how the public adored him. Giving the public positive ideas will gain their trust, but unfortunately, he does not keep their trust. As Nero became older, his accomplishments became less and less, he began turning into someone who was in it for the money. His turning point was when he bankrupted Rome, once this happened Nero was neither trusted or liked. First beginning his reign, Tiberius gradually showed his people that he was in charge. • 12. Persepolis Analysis In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, the protagonist, Marji, faces hardships and conflict as a woman in Iran. When discussing conflict that Marji faces, politics is one topic that stands out the most. Growing up in a war torn and corrupt country, Marji is exposed to violence at a young age and is forced to mature quickly. As she grows older she experiments during a period of rebellion and temporarily leaves her home country in an effort to find herself. However, much later, she circles back to Iran and comes home to the same crumbling and oppressive system she has always resented. Even though Marji may change as she travels to new places, grows older, and experiments with her self expression, her constant strife with the Islamic Regime s political ideology remains. Although Marji begins as an outspoken and confident young girl, she quickly has to adjust to the harsh rules of society. Marji s first conflict arises when she is forced to wear a veil in school. One frame shows her and all of her classmates playing different kinds of childish games with the veils they were forced to wear. In one corner, a girl is jump roping with a veil, and in another corner, two girls are faking an execution (Satrapi, 3, fr. 5). This is because Marji and her classmates do not understand why they have veils and undermine the authoritative power by playing with them. Although a small event in the novel, this mini revolt sets a precedent for Marji s actions in response to the regime s rules as she grows older. Later in the story, she is inspired to join the revolution and make a change after seeing her parents protesting. On one night, an audacious Marji storms into her parents room and exclaims, I want to come with you tomorrow! To demonstrate on the street. I am sick and tired of doing it in the garden. For a revolution to succeed, the entire population must support it (Satrapi, 16 17). Marji s eloquent words are that of someone who is willing to sacrifice his/herself to make change in a corrupt system. In return for dealing with such heavy political issues, Marji is passionate about protesting and expressing her disdain for the Iranian government. Or again: there are cases in which the parapraxes multiply, form chains, and replace one another #8230; (ILp 35 36) It is in this line that understanding the preconscious becomes important. Preconscious describes a division of the mind that falls in between repression (unconscious) and recognition (conscious). Freud described thoughts in the preconscious as having crossed the threshold from the unconscious mind, but not yet having caught the eye of consciousness (IL p366). The preconscious is an important element in the dynamic between an individual s conscious intention and their counter will, because it falls somewhere in the middle and may be the most manifested part of the phenomenon. For instance, when a proper name is forgotten, this is a function of repression. The individual unconsciously wants to forget one thing, but the counter will resists by forgetting another. It is when a name is on the tip of the tongue but still unclear that countless other irrelevant names will come to mind; these irrelevant names are the inhabitants of the preconscious. The case detailed in The Psychopathology of Everyday Life, in which Freud discusses his own experience with the forgetting of a proper name, is a good example of a clear analysis of the mechanism Freud saw behind this phenomenon. He explains the situation, and will later go on to fully analyze its significance: The name that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I found her distinction between what Marx and Engels specifically say about women and the family model and her theory of a greater understanding of how gender works dialectically and materially very helpful. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love... ...For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite. (Linton) This is a quote inspired/taken from Mandela, and then tweeted in a series by former President Barrack Obama following a terrorism rally in Charlottesville that took place August 2017. Terrorism in America is seen as foreigners coming into the country and causing an uproar that includes countless deaths and injuries; however, terrorism is already here. Terrorism and terrorist acts happen because of actual citizens in the United States of America, yet people are not seeing them as acts of terrorism. The Collin s English Dictionary states the definition of terrorism is, the act of terrorizing; use of force or threats to demoralize, intimidate, and subjugate, esp. such use as a political weapon or policy (Collins English Dictionary). By this definition, school shootings, riots that cause destruction, and attacks by American citizens on other innocent citizens is an act of terrorism. Terrorism is meant to make a statement. While some terrorism is done out of spite by a mentally disturbed person with erotic thoughts, some attacks are done to cause an uproar and to scare a population, and others are thought out due to the desire of wanted change in society (typically due to ideals derived from teachings ... That said, the question remains: Are we defined by our environment and merely a product of it, or we posses the ability to make decisions despite it? The age old question of who am I kept stirring in my mind. It got me thinking about how I define myself and how the environment that I grew up in has shaped me. My first thought was Wait a minute I know who I am, I think? So I made a list of the obvious; wife, mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, niece, etc. Looking at that list I realized that those labels were just words used to define my relationships to other people. I have never really thought about the labels that define my relationships they are just words. I seldom thought about how the culture or environment I grew up in affected me or my relationships to others. I took these things for granted. Can we control the environment we re born into? Are we supposed to somehow see beyond the culture we were raised in; The culture that compels us to act, live and think in certain ways? As a young girl living in the 1960 s era women lived and defined themselves by their marriage or birth to a man. As a woman you could not open a bank account without your husband s co signature. So says Mustapha Mond, the World Controller for Western Europe in Aldous Huxley s novel Brave New World. In doing so, he highlights a major theme in this story of a Utopian society. Although the people in this modernized world enjoy no disease, effects of old age, war, poverty, social unrest, or any other infirmities or discomforts, Huxley asks is the price they pay really worth the benefits? One might be led to believe that this society is a perfect place to live, since all the inhabitants are eternally happy. There are no wars, pain, or suffering, all definite pluses, yet readers must not judge too quickly. Othello s better than those feelies. Of course it is But that s the price we have to pay for stability. You ve got to choose between happiness and what people used to call high art. We ve sacrificed the high art. We have the feelies and the scent organ instead. But they don t mean anything, (Huxley 226) This conversation shows one of the tradeoffs made. Stories like Othello are inspired by strong emotions, and Utopia has done away with them. Now, there is nothing to write about, and if something was written along the lines of Othello it might cause people to think, causing instability. The movies people see are idiotic and plotless, based solely on sensations. When using moving images to tell a story the control over space and time that the storyteller has is very different to that when telling a story using the written or spoken word. The film Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino demonstrates the notion of being able to control and manipulate the relation between space and time very well.
