When You’Re At A Family Gathering, Do You Sometimes Feel
When you're at a family gathering, do you sometimes feel like you are disconnected or
uncomfortable because you don't get along with your family? Think of a time in your life where you
had a good relaxing day with your family. If you couldn't think of anything, that is okay because you
are not alone. According to a poll of 2,000 parents conducted by Virgin Holidays and Universal
Orlando Resort, they found that "families spend about 36 minutes per weekday together" (Denee,
realtruth.org). In general, the term family means a group consisting of parents and children living
under a household, in which the idea of that can sound alarming to some people who aren't close
with their families. This is when they turn to their friends to find their ... Show more content on

According to Census 2010 figures, "31% (more than 41,000 same–sex couples) are raising
biological, step, or adopted children under age 18"(Gates, the Williams Institute at UCLA School of
Law). Even so, there has been a decrease in the amount of children going into foster care, but sadly
enough only a few are adopted. According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Human
and Health Services, around 800,000 children were served and only 50,000 were adopted in 2006,
yet in 2015, around 617,000 children were served, but only 53,000 were adopted. In some cases,
families have been devastatingly broken up from incarceration of a family member or the aftermath
of a divorce between two parents, which was how my biological family ended up.
Before my parents got divorced, everyone in my household was connected with each other but also
dealing with our clashes of personalities. We always ate dinner together and went to church every
Sunday (I was forced into Catholicism, and later confirmed but haven't looked back since). My
siblings and I got into plenty of arguments and fights, but at the end of the day we all loved each
other and would've done anything for each other; well except for my toddler self. During the
summer before 6th grade, my parents got divorced and that really took a toll on my well–being. My
dad moved out of the house and, nothing was the same since. Since my dad was our family's main

Major Luston Short Story
Major Luxon arrived, leading the Marines from the front; it was impressive to the Rowland family
to see the Marine Commander on the road with his men. Major Luxon met with Mr. and Mrs. Luxon
for about an hour. Mr. Rowland then asked the Major to follow him. Major Luxon shrugged and
thought, why not? The two men headed out to one of the many barns on the property. Mr. Rowland
swung open one of the doors, "You think this will help you?" Mr. Rowland asked Major Luxon. The
barn was filled from top to bottom with wheat and corn. "We had a bumper crop this year and it
seems to be all going to waste," Mr. Rowland told the Major. "I'm not the one to make the decision

they were Marines. Once we had the first couple of classes trained and we evaluated them, they took

Luxon pointed to the dust trail that had been getting closer and closer. "Yes sir I see that," Mr.
Rowland exclaimed. "That would be First Battalion Naval Special Weapons coming for a visit, and
tomorrow Second Battalion will be arriving." "Why so many?" "We've been ordered by Captain
O'Hara to expand our perimeters out; we need farm animals and horses for plowing," Major Luxon

A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi–Project Battalion by Leading Upward Leadership is a
integral part of project management; all together for any project to be effective, a person with great
management skills should be selected as the leader of the project. The significance of leadership in
project management can be found in this case study, "A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi–
Project Battalion by Leading Upward". The contextual investigation spins around the leadership
capabilities of Lieutenant Colonel Yaron and Lieutenant Colonel Daniel amid the separation and
departure of Israeli settlement in the heart of numerous Palestinian populaces close to the Gaza
Strip. They had an alternate sort of authority style which confronted numerous troubles and was
worthwhile for the circumstances. This paper will convey leadership styles of both Lieutenant
Colonels Yaron and Daniel amid the evacuations. Distinctive leadership styles amid the institution
of a project, regardless of the possibility that it is a battle ready one, impacts the movement of the
project and its leadership from numerous points of view. Lieutenant Colonel Yaron has an
exceptionally transformational authority style which is common all through most of the contextual
analysis. A transformational leadership style rely on upon elevated amounts of

Sergeant Major Greg Valliant: A Short Story
Sergeant Major Greg Valliant was the senior NCO for 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry
Regiment, and nicknamed 'Geronimo'. He had been a paratrooper his entire career which started
when he was seventeen years old. He'd been stationed all over the world and was a combat veteran
of Panama, Grenada, the first Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq (the second war). He was nearing
mandatory retirement soon and had no idea what he was going to do next. The Army was all he
knew, he had no family to speak of, and he was divorced with three grown kids, none of whom
talked to him anymore. It's not that he was a bad husband or father, he was an absentee father, and
he was never home. He was either in the field or overseas some place generally in a ... Show more

stated Cindy flatly. "Alright, let's not discuss any of this here lets go to my office." Greg and Cindy
walked back to his office with Cindy trailing a few steps behind. This was the first time since the
separation and subsequent divorce that Cindy had been to his office, heck since she's been on post.
He couldn't help and wonder what was so important that she had to make a personal appearance.
Once back inside the office he closed the door behind them and offered her a seat on the couch, she
sat, and he took one of the large chairs that faced her. "What brings you to my neck of the woods?"
asked Greg. "Your neck of the woods? I still live in Fayetteville and haven't moved or left the
planet." "What do you want Cindy? You pretty much got everything in the divorce to include half
my pension when I retire." "Have you talked to any of the kids lately?" she asked. Now she had his

Operation Enduring Freedom, which was part of the "war on terror". Following this successful tour,
he joined the staff of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth's Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program

Subjective Jail Classification System
Subjective classification: Subjective jail classification is a system that relies on the "gut" feeling of
the classification staff when making decisions, especially housing decisions. This approach relies on
a review of jail records (if inmate had been incarcerated before), current charge, criminal history
(prior incarcerations), social history, substance abuse history, mental health history, and the
impressions of the classification staff interviewer to make placements. Subjective jail classification
has been described as a "clinical, intuitive, seat–of–the–pants approach." This approach relies on
opinions and feelings instead of objective criteria. Objective classification: Objective jail

Classification is a key management tool that helps jail staff make educated decisions about inmate
housing arrangements, custody levels, staff precautions, work assignments, and program
involvement. The classification process begins with interviewing the inmate to determine the
security level that best suits the inmate. It determines the best and safest housing for the inmate.
Classification reassesses inmates after a brief time in incarceration to determine programs and
privileges for the inmate. There are many goals and benefits in classification. Classification protects
inmates from one another, weaker from stronger, mentally ill from heathier inmates. It also identifies
and addresses security risk like contraband traffickers, gang members, and escape risk. Inmate
classification also strengthens security, effectively uses resources, provides a platform for consistent
decision making, improve efficacy and effectiveness, and reduces liability for jail. Classification
procedures are basically the same the inmate is asked a series of questions about their lifestyle,
criminal history, current charges, and gang affiliation. The inmate is also observed for behavioral
and mental health problems during the classification. Based on the outcome of the interview the
inmate is temporary housed to the best needs for the facility, and the inmate. The inmate receives

There are four types of classification systems such as: offense–based systems, risked based systems,
need based systems, and objective classification. Offense based systems focus on the nature and
seriousness of the current offense like was violence involved, injury to the victim, domestic, sexual

offender is present for re–offending and to the public safety. The risked based systems look for the
following: nature of the current offense, criminal history, age of the offender, history of past
violations (parole or ), jail or past institutional conduct, STG (gang) affiliation. Needs based systems

Time Management Within The Military
Time management plays a vital role in each and every unit with the United States Army and it
affects how quickly they can respond to problems when they arise. Time management encompasses
just about everything in the Army. From Senior Non–Commissioned Officers (SNCO) making sure
their soldiers are in the right place at the right time by tracking all their soldiers appointments and
duties or the squad leaders and other Non–Commissioned Officers making sure that maintenance is
being completed on time so the aircraft are ready to fly, and making sure that soldiers are ready for
their flights for the day all the way down to the lower enlisted soldier making sure he or she is on
time and ready to complete their day. These are the just a few of the things that time management
encompasses within the military. So what is time management? Time management is a skill that
needs to learned or if need be taught to every soldier within the ranks. Imagine a unit that has no
time management skills. Soldiers are late for flights, they miss appointments and in turn receive
article fifteens, Senior Non–Commissioned Officers are being scolded by their First Sergeants for
not being able to properly track their soldiers which in turn falls downhill to the squad leaders.
Maintenance isn't completed and a majority of the fleet is down leaving only a few aircraft in an

training requirements and are

The Assessment Team Administrator Should Begin The Process...
The assessment team administrator should begin the process of soliciting assessment team members.
Many organizations solicit members through. Their corporate newsletter, electronic mail, or a
personal letter sent from the president/CEO inviting participation. Team members selections should
be considered from a group of employees who have expressed an interest in better understanding
homeland security and using the Baldrige Criteria as a template for improving their organization's
homeland security infrastructure. Once team members have been selected, it is recommended that an
assessment workshop be conducted by the assessment team administrator or team participants who
have an understanding of homeland security issues and the Baldrige Criteria. The workshop may
include using a case study for the team to practice identifying organizational strengths and
opportunities for improvement in at least one or two categories. During the workshop, the team will
discuss each category and determine "What does this mean for my organization?" The use of this
manual will help the team practice translating homeland security issues and Baldrige Criteria into
simple language for their own organization–wide assessment.Assessment team members should
represent a cross section of employees. All departments throughout the organization should be
represented on the teams. Diversity adds value and strength to each assessment team. In larger

Preparation
Firstly, to prepare for the first administration of the CAS, I read the examiner manual which
explained that in order for the results to be interpretable and avoid reducing of reliability and
validity, the assessment should be administered according to the procedures and recommended
testing conditions (Das & Naglieri, 1997). There were several key points to be familiar with which
are: the materials needed in each subtest (ie. Response book, red pencil, stopwatch), the starting
points according to age, the time limits per item, scoring of each item, and the discontinue rules. I
then reviewed the record forms, response booklets, and marked the starting points according to

As a result, I made changes with Sierra's assessment and decided to split it in two sessions with two
subtests each session in order to avoid fatigueness.
Building Rapport According to Das and Naglieri (1997), it is important to establish rapport with the
examinee but also be aware of providing praise and compliment that may influence the results. I
found it fairly easy to build rapport with Jhallen as I have conducted an interview for the first
assignment. As the setting was more relaxed, Jhallen often asked some questions in which I found it
difficult to not repeat the item or give guidance. In order to not compromise the standardization of
the test, I reminded Jhallen in every beginning of the task that I cannot give guidance. On the other
hand, my assessment with Sierra required more effort in building rapport as she appeared to be shy
and quiet in the beginning. In order to establish rapport I had a brief conversation about her day and
introduced the assessment, emphasising that some of the tasks may be easy or difficulty but to try
her best. To maintain rapport during the assessment, I made sure that she understood the instructions
of every task and be aware that I could not provide help or feedback.
Report Writing The CAS Examiner's Manual provided steps in scoring and interpreting the scores. I
found the instructions to score the CAS results to be straightforward. It was also very

Glue In Romeo And Juliet
Glue can be viewed as a sticky mess; however, it is the mold and foundation for the basis of many
things. Glue is a binder for many things including art projects and practical crafts. Much like how
literal glue sticks objects together, metaphoric glue keeps order. For instance, a father is the glue of a
family because he is a protector, a money–maker, and a lover. In the dramatic play Romeo and Juliet
by William Shakespeare, two families' feuds have to keep lovers apart until their deaths. Their
families start to fall apart as the mold holding them together does as well. Young Juliet ends her life
far too early because her father, Lord Capulet, has a wrath that is too much to put up a fight with.
Her father gives her orders that she refuses to take, but unfortunately he does not like to hear the
word "no." Nonetheless, chaos unfolds to what seems to be no end. Ultimately, Lord Capulet's
power and temper both weakens and strengthens the glue that holds together the Capulet name. ...

The Gogol Grotesque Characters
Grotesque Characters When talking about the grotesque uncertainty and confusion is often common
because when someone or something is grotesque it is out of the norm we don't usually see or hear
about it. In Gogol's "The Nose" the grotesque is present throughout the whole story and especially
with the two main characters Ivan Yakovlevich and Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov. A reader of this
story will notice the similarities and the differences that these two characters share. This response to
"The Nose" will compare and contrast the two main characters and show how they are grotesque.
The title of this story alone should tell the reader that this is most likely about a nose or something
pertaining to that particular body part which is different. The title alone can make the reader ask
questions before they even start to read the story. As one may read and find out that the story is
about a nose and how Collegiate Assessor Kovalyov (also referred to as major) loses his nose. As
Ivan Yakovlevich is sitting down to eat a roll he feels something in the roll. "He pokes two fingers in
and pulled out – a nose!" (Gogol 113). Ivan freaks out as any normal person would do and decides
to get rid of the evidence and drops it off a bridge. The major on the other hand wakes up one
morning to find he has lost his nose and has no idea where it is. He later finds his nose acting as a
person who has a rank that is three higher than his. The major even tries to talk his own nose and

going to explain in this essay is very important. I am going to separate them into two paragraphs.
The first paragraph will be about the importance of the rank structure and why the rank structure is
in place. The second paragraph will be about the importance of the chain of command and why the
chain of command is set into place. The rank structure goes back to the 1700's. The rank structure
was put into place so that the soldiers had someone that was there to give out orders; also the rank
structure was there to teach the newer enlisted respect. If the rank structure was not in place, there
would be no order or discipline in the army. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But there is one simple way to fix that problem that a lot of us lower enlisted seem to have. If the
person you are about to talk to is not your chief or one of the other chiefs in your platoon. Do not
talk to them unless they speak to you first. And all you really need to say to them is check, roger,
hooah. In the past year and three months, I have had a lot of trouble realizing this. I tend to do the
wrong thing and go talk to who I need to talk to without going about it the right way. If you want to
talk to your commander, you need to talk to you chief, then your platoon sergeant, then your first
sergeant, then you can talk to your commander. This may seem like a lot of work. But in all actuality
if the problem that you have is able to be fixed beforehand, then it was all worth the work. Yes there
are going to be situations when you know that it can only be fixed by talking to the highest person in
the chain of command, but the chain of command needs to know what is going on so that they can
try to help you and explain the situation to the next person up. Before I realized that the chain of
command is here for the soldier, I always thought that it was just so that your chief and your platoon
sergeant do not look bad to the person above them. In some cases this may be slightly true, but it is
not just about that. It is about helping you out as much as possible. Help yourself by going through
the chain of command. There is no reason for you to

Character Analysis Of Mercy
In A Mercy, readers are able to see several phases of changes each individual characters go through
throughout the book. Lina, she goes through the phase where her experience changes her thinking.
Jacob, he changes by community, the surrounding environment he is surrounded by. Florens, the
main character of this book especially go through this phase several times. Readers see how her
experiences, family, race, and class alter her which is similar to how American's identity is being
determined today. First, readers see, from the overall experiences Florens has throughout the book,
how her identity is determined which is similar to how American's identity is determined today. For
instance, on the very beginning of A Mercy, Morrison references something strange thing that is
somewhat out of her context. Florens says, "As a result, Lina says, my feet are useless..." (4). The
quote illustrates that how Florens knows her identity or her feature that she has about her that her
feet are useless. The quote also claims about how Floren's identity is or what Florens though about
her identity is which can be used to compare how Florens have changed throughout her experience.
Another examples is shown when in the end of the book Florens shows how she has changed
through her experience that refers back to the the experience she had with her mother, Minha Mae.
She says, "...Mae, you can have pleasure now because the soles of my feet are hard as cypress"
(189). What Florens says demonstrates

Reflective Essay On Civil Service
My agency, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, has Civil Service and, as such, there are certain
criteria that one must meet before I could promote. Anyone who passes a few tests and does well on
some Internal Review Boards is eligible for promotion. Therefore, since I guessed better than the
person sitting next to me did, I am making major decisions that affect dozens of people directly and
possibly hundreds indirectly. The only training I received in supervision were the classes I took to
impress the Internal Review Board. The perils of Civil Service, perhaps. Additionally, when I first
made sergeant in 2011 there was no training program for the new supervisors. Surprisingly, I rode
with another sergeant for three days and then was on my own. Expectations were that I could
perform the duties and responsibilities since I passed the test.
Then, in 2016, I made lieutenant and the only training I received was moving from the sergeant's
office across the hall to my new office.
Since then I, with another lieutenant, have put together a training program for all new sergeants.
However, on my own I learned a few things and have come up with a few of my own maxims that
many other supervisors have taken to quoting:

Theme Of Family In Water For Elephants
Believing in Creating Families
The novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen presents a dramatic and emotional plot about a boy,
Jacob, who joins the circus after losing everything. As readers join Jacob on his journey, the
question of what constitutes family is answered and the theme family can be created by those who
love a person is revealed. Like Jacob people may feel alone and lost but, there is a family out there
somewhere, even if they are a bit unconventional. Water for Elephants resonates with my beliefs
about family by expressing the theme, family does not always mean those one is born to but those
one has found to love and care for. My beliefs allowed me to better understand the theme, connect
with characters, as well as strengthen my beliefs by reading such an emotional novel with the theme
centered on creating a family.
I was instilled with the belief family does not mean people who share DNA, rather people who share
love and compassion for one another. This allowed me to better understand the theme about creating
families the author explains in the novel. By understanding the basics of the theme, I know families
created are just as or more strong and loving than those which are born. For instance, when Uncle Al
is unfair to Jacob, Camel reassures Jacob, "You're a good kid, and I ain't about to stand by and watch
you mope off 'cuz that fat old grouch don't got time." (Gruen 53) Jacob found a family in many
people from the circus and the strength of that family is

Personal Statement: My Role As A Senior Enlisted Leader
1. I humbly and respectfully request to be considered for a Command Master Chief position. My
distinguished record as a leader and operator make me qualified for this position of trust and
responsibility. My leadership philosophy is that an individual's leadership skills continually evolve;
however, there are elements that remain constant, such as respect, purpose, collaboration, heart,
trust, and spirit. Carefully managing team synergy, harmonizing its dynamics, and maximizing the
advantages of diversity in order to achieve collective success are challenges we should strive to
undertake. 2. As a Senior Enlisted Leader I aspire to develop a better comprehension of strategic
issues. Having in–depth knowledge of the complexities behind decisions, processes, and the totality
of circumstances is instrumental when addressing matters to Coast Guard field units. Furthermore,
this perspective is integral to a Senior Enlisted Leader's ability to provide timely, complete and
reliable counsel to operational and strategic leaders, particularly when making decisions that

This paper will provide my reflection about mission command, and how I will incorporate principles
of mission command such as build cohesive teams through mutual trust, create share understanding,
provide guidance of Commander's intent which will inspire self–discipline, produce mission order,
accept prudent risk, and exercise discipline initiative in my philosophy in future assignments as a
Sergeant Major.
Build Cohesive Team/s What better way to motivated troops, what better way to get cooperation,
mutual respect, and sense of pride than creating cohesive teams. As their Senior Enlisted Advisor, I
need to consider a key ingredient that it is essential to have a good cohesive team and that is trust.
Without trust, anything else related to mission command or look for cooperation to support the
commander's intent will be irrelevant. To earn the troops' trust I must realize that everybody is
human and it is ok to make mistakes, and that is how we grow and learn, I must give all the troops
the tools to succeed, and to understand that there will be challenges and blockages that might

Rank Group defies Brexit with impressive profit increase While Brexit has rocked a number of
major online gambling industry names, it seems that Rank Group has managed to remain strong. In
fact, it can even be argued that Rank Group has gone beyond what it was expected financially
speaking, as it posted a profit increase of 15% during the financial year. Coming about through a
fresh digital–focused strategy, it appears that Rank Group is defying doubters across the board. The
report, which details final results for the year to 30th June, shows that their profit before taxation
was a very healthy £85.5 million, which is a notable increase on the £74.5 million posted the year
prior. Revenue for Rank Group also increased by 2% to £753 million. The figures show that,
generally speaking, Rank Group had a great year, but there was a negative to note amidst the report,
as there was 2% dip in the group's operating profits, as it came in at £82.4 million before

The Construction Of Occupational Specialty Codes Essay
On September 29, 2016, the U. S. Navy announced that it would modernize the enlisted ratings of
the Navy. The plan includes the installation of occupational specialty codes. These codes are similar
to those used in the other services. The plan also called for sailors to be referred to by only their
rank, such as Petty Officer First Class. The modernization of the enlisted rating system has caused
morale issues in the fleet, makes job field detailing better, and aligns with the other branches. First,
there will be morale problems in the fleet with the modernization plan. The plan discarded a
tradition that goes back two hundred years to the beginning of the Navy. Rates such as Boatswain's
Mate, Gunner's Mate and Quartermaster have been in use since the start of the Navy (Broderick).
They were carried over from the British Navy which was the used to create the U. S. Navy.
Dickstein quoted a sailor saying about the plan that, "It seemed to come out of nowhere without
much notice, so a lot of people were surprised it happened" (Dickstein, 2016). Sailors are very
protective of their rates, and many have conveyed anger and confusion with the plan. According to
Church, a seaman stated that "When you're a Boatswain's Mate it comes with a lot of pride because
of what you do" (Church). On whitehouse.gov there is a petition requesting to have the old rating
reinstated. As of two October, the petition had almost 41,000 signatures. The positive about the

In a military we obtain position power that comes with the rank and the position you are presently
serving. The best way to acquire the position power is by performing your general and specific

duty is to be the higher skill technician that will be responsible of training and for his subordinates.
If your subordinates don't do their training by the first week of the month than the Staff Sergeant can
make them work the weekend to finish their training while working 12 hour shift. The Technical

Lance Corporal Dinsmore : An Aviation Mechanic
A large misconception about the military is that people think that everything is free for service
members and their families and that they are just living off the government. The reality is that even
people serving in our military have to pay taxes, have taxes deducted from their paychecks; as well
as their uniforms, food, and housing expenses are also taken out of their paychecks. According to
Lance Corporal Dinsmore, "While serving in the military, you are not living a lavished or exotic life
to be honest, it is the exact opposite. We are constantly living paycheck to paycheck trying to save
enough money to get by until the next pay day." The military is a very honorable occupation but, a

Hearing the emotions behind their tone really spoke to me and how they wish they could provide
more for their children and loved ones. Service members who are married and have children are
granted a housing allowance to help pay for a place for them to stay. While talking with these
families, I learned that the housing allowance is typically not enough to live in an typical middle
income house or apartment. By having this opportunity, I was touched while also gaining a large
amount of prospective onto what their lives are like. One of the key events about this visit was the
trip to the Commissary and the MCX. For some background, the Commissary is the grocery store
and the MCX is like the military version of Target. Most people who don't know any different might
be under the assumption that working for the government would mean that they provide the
necessities for daily life. But, that is hardly true. When walking into these stores, just like in civilian
world there are price tags on items that are for purchase. From food to clothing, there is real money
associated with everything, nothing is free. One positive about these places on base are that they are
tax exempt. This is a small relief for these military families with their tight budgets. So many
aspects of this trip were a surprise to me. When in the military, your boss

It is imperative that my actions are not only expressed as honorable or virtuous, but interpreted that
way as well. The people of America trust that the officer corps is a vested authority in which they
depend upon for the welfare and lives of their children. Without the support of every officer serving
as a role model for their subordinates, society will expect less from our military officers, weakening
the military as a whole. Transitioning from enlisted to officer is an achievement that results in an
increased awareness of responsibility. A few of these conceptions are: take care of Soldiers prior to
taking care of myself; plan my career accordingly in order to progress; and to develop people,
making the most of their talents. It is imperative to care for your Soldiers first in order for them to
be ready to take care of the mission. As an officer, I will be giving the orders, but the Soldiers need

The Relationship Between Punishment And Positions Of Power
Positions of Power
Rachel A. Wood
Columbia Southern University
Abstract
The proposed research assess if military individuals in a position of power who have committed a
sexual assault were held to a lesser standard than individuals who were not in a position of power. In
addition, this research examines the perception of the military's belief that a position has its
privileges. This paper defines at least 65 percent of sexual assaults occur at a military location, with
89 percent of women stating the offender was in the military, and 60 percent of service members
said the culprit was a higher rank, supervisor, or a unit leader (Morral, Gore, & Shell, 2014b, p.

Due to an individual's position in the military, could that position determine the reason individuals
have been able to get away with sexual assault and remain in the military? Does the current issue lie
with the military justice system's view on these types of positions? Could it be an issue with the men
in a position of power that make up the top ninety–one percent of the highest–ranking individuals in
the military (Chemaly, 2014)? Would this propose the reason why they were able to retire or receive
a lesser punishment than those of a lower ranking position? Do the current documented surveys,
methods of collecting data and empirical research show the relationship of outcomes consistently
mitigated, were of those cases involving high ranking individuals in positions of power?
Problem Statement
Has the exposure of sexual assault high profile cases involving positions of power who have

When You’Re At A Family Gathering, Do You Sometimes Feel

  • 1. When You’Re At A Family Gathering, Do You Sometimes Feel When you're at a family gathering, do you sometimes feel like you are disconnected or uncomfortable because you don't get along with your family? Think of a time in your life where you had a good relaxing day with your family. If you couldn't think of anything, that is okay because you are not alone. According to a poll of 2,000 parents conducted by Virgin Holidays and Universal Orlando Resort, they found that "families spend about 36 minutes per weekday together" (Denee, realtruth.org). In general, the term family means a group consisting of parents and children living under a household, in which the idea of that can sound alarming to some people who aren't close with their families. This is when they turn to their friends to find their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Census 2010 figures, "31% (more than 41,000 same–sex couples) are raising biological, step, or adopted children under age 18"(Gates, the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law). Even so, there has been a decrease in the amount of children going into foster care, but sadly enough only a few are adopted. According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services, around 800,000 children were served and only 50,000 were adopted in 2006, yet in 2015, around 617,000 children were served, but only 53,000 were adopted. In some cases, families have been devastatingly broken up from incarceration of a family member or the aftermath of a divorce between two parents, which was how my biological family ended up. Before my parents got divorced, everyone in my household was connected with each other but also dealing with our clashes of personalities. We always ate dinner together and went to church every Sunday (I was forced into Catholicism, and later confirmed but haven't looked back since). My siblings and I got into plenty of arguments and fights, but at the end of the day we all loved each other and would've done anything for each other; well except for my toddler self. During the summer before 6th grade, my parents got divorced and that really took a toll on my well–being. My dad moved out of the house and, nothing was the same since. • 3. Major Luston Short Story Major Luxon arrived, leading the Marines from the front; it was impressive to the Rowland family to see the Marine Commander on the road with his men. Major Luxon met with Mr. and Mrs. Luxon for about an hour. Mr. Rowland then asked the Major to follow him. Major Luxon shrugged and thought, why not? The two men headed out to one of the many barns on the property. Mr. Rowland swung open one of the doors, "You think this will help you?" Mr. Rowland asked Major Luxon. The barn was filled from top to bottom with wheat and corn. "We had a bumper crop this year and it seems to be all going to waste," Mr. Rowland told the Major. "I'm not the one to make the decision Mr. Rowland; you would need to speak to Captain O'Hara the base commander. I'm sure he' be more than happy to take it. With that said, why not ... In the meantime the NSWS will be taken on security for the area," Major Luxon responded. "What's the NSWS?" Mr. Rowland asked. "Naval Special Weapons Sailors. We Marines took a bunch of them and trained them up like they were Marines. Once we had the first couple of classes trained and we evaluated them, they took over the training. They've got two Battalions of them now; see that down the road there?" Major Luxon pointed to the dust trail that had been getting closer and closer. "Yes sir I see that," Mr. Rowland exclaimed. "That would be First Battalion Naval Special Weapons coming for a visit, and tomorrow Second Battalion will be arriving." "Why so many?" "We've been ordered by Captain O'Hara to expand our perimeters out; we need farm animals and horses for plowing," Major Luxon eyed Mr. Rowland hoping he would see where he was going with this conversation. "Doesn't Oceana have its own stables?" "Yes sir it does and we're using what we can now, but the horses are also being used for transportation by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi–Project Battalion by Leading Upward Anthony Bing Dr. Jimmie Flores October 23, 2016 Strayer University, Augusta Georgia A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi–Project Battalion by Leading Upward Leadership is a integral part of project management; all together for any project to be effective, a person with great management skills should be selected as the leader of the project. The significance of leadership in project management can be found in this case study, "A Peaceful Evacuation: Building a Multi– Project Battalion by Leading Upward". The contextual investigation spins around the leadership capabilities of Lieutenant Colonel Yaron and Lieutenant Colonel Daniel amid the separation and departure of Israeli settlement in the heart of numerous Palestinian populaces close to the Gaza Strip. They had an alternate sort of authority style which confronted numerous troubles and was worthwhile for the circumstances. Subjective Jail Classification System Subjective classification: Subjective jail classification is a system that relies on the "gut" feeling of the classification staff when making decisions, especially housing decisions. This approach relies on a review of jail records (if inmate had been incarcerated before), current charge, criminal history (prior incarcerations), social history, substance abuse history, mental health history, and the impressions of the classification staff interviewer to make placements. Classification is a key management tool that helps jail staff make educated decisions about inmate housing arrangements, custody levels, staff precautions, work assignments, and program involvement. The classification process begins with interviewing the inmate to determine the security level that best suits the inmate. It determines the best and safest housing for the inmate. Classification reassesses inmates after a brief time in incarceration to determine programs and privileges for the inmate. There are many goals and benefits in classification. Classification protects inmates from one another, weaker from stronger, mentally ill from heathier inmates. Time Management Within The Military Time management plays a vital role in each and every unit with the United States Army and it affects how quickly they can respond to problems when they arise. There were several key points to be familiar with which are: the materials needed in each subtest (ie. Response book, red pencil, stopwatch), the starting points according to age, the time limits per item, scoring of each item, and the discontinue rules. As a result, I made changes with Sierra's assessment and decided to split it in two sessions with two subtests each session in order to avoid fatigueness. Building Rapport According to Das and Naglieri (1997), it is important to establish rapport with the examinee but also be aware of providing praise and compliment that may influence the results. I found it fairly easy to build rapport with Jhallen as I have conducted an interview for the first assignment. As the setting was more relaxed, Jhallen often asked some questions in which I found it difficult to not repeat the item or give guidance. In order to not compromise the standardization of the test, I reminded Jhallen in every beginning of the task that I cannot give guidance. On the other hand, my assessment with Sierra required more effort in building rapport as she appeared to be shy and quiet in the beginning. In order to establish rapport I had a brief conversation about her day and introduced the assessment, emphasising that some of the tasks may be easy or difficulty but to try her best. To maintain rapport during the assessment, I made sure that she understood the instructions of every task and be aware that I could not provide help or feedback. Glue is a binder for many things including art projects and practical crafts. Much like how literal glue sticks objects together, metaphoric glue keeps order. For instance, a father is the glue of a family because he is a protector, a money–maker, and a lover. In the dramatic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two families' feuds have to keep lovers apart until their deaths. Their families start to fall apart as the mold holding them together does as well. Young Juliet ends her life far too early because her father, Lord Capulet, has a wrath that is too much to put up a fight with. Her father gives her orders that she refuses to take, but unfortunately he does not like to hear the word "no." Nonetheless, chaos unfolds to what seems to be no end. A reader of this story will notice the similarities and the differences that these two characters share. This response to "The Nose" will compare and contrast the two main characters and show how they are grotesque. The title of this story alone should tell the reader that this is most likely about a nose or something pertaining to that particular body part which is different. Every reason that I am going to explain in this essay is very important. I am going to separate them into two paragraphs. The first paragraph will be about the importance of the rank structure and why the rank structure is in place. The second paragraph will be about the importance of the chain of command and why the chain of command is set into place. The rank structure goes back to the 1700's. The rank structure was put into place so that the soldiers had someone that was there to give out orders; also the rank structure was there to teach the newer enlisted respect. Do not talk to them unless they speak to you first. And all you really need to say to them is check, roger, hooah. In the past year and three months, I have had a lot of trouble realizing this. I tend to do the wrong thing and go talk to who I need to talk to without going about it the right way. If you want to talk to your commander, you need to talk to you chief, then your platoon sergeant, then your first sergeant, then you can talk to your commander. This may seem like a lot of work. But in all actuality if the problem that you have is able to be fixed beforehand, then it was all worth the work. Yes there are going to be situations when you know that it can only be fixed by talking to the highest person in the chain of command, but the chain of command needs to know what is going on so that they can try to help you and explain the situation to the next person up. Before I realized that the chain of command is here for the soldier, I always thought that it was just so that your chief and your platoon sergeant do not look bad to the person above them. Theme Of Family In Water For Elephants Believing in Creating Families The novel Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen presents a dramatic and emotional plot about a boy, Jacob, who joins the circus after losing everything. As readers join Jacob on his journey, the question of what constitutes family is answered and the theme family can be created by those who love a person is revealed. Like Jacob people may feel alone and lost but, there is a family out there somewhere, even if they are a bit unconventional. Water for Elephants resonates with my beliefs about family by expressing the theme, family does not always mean those one is born to but those one has found to love and care for. My beliefs allowed me to better understand the theme, connect with characters, as well as strengthen my beliefs by reading such an emotional novel with the theme centered on creating a family. I was instilled with the belief family does not mean people who share DNA, rather people who share love and compassion for one another. This allowed me to better understand the theme about creating families the author explains in the novel. By understanding the basics of the theme, I know families created are just as or more strong and loving than those which are born. • 63. The Construction Of Occupational Specialty Codes Essay On September 29, 2016, the U. S. Navy announced that it would modernize the enlisted ratings of the Navy. The plan includes the installation of occupational specialty codes. These codes are similar to those used in the other services. The plan also called for sailors to be referred to by only their rank, such as Petty Officer First Class. The modernization of the enlisted rating system has caused morale issues in the fleet, makes job field detailing better, and aligns with the other branches. First, there will be morale problems in the fleet with the modernization plan. The plan discarded a tradition that goes back two hundred years to the beginning of the Navy. Rates such as Boatswain's Mate, Gunner's Mate and Quartermaster have been in use since the start of the Navy (Broderick). They were carried over from the British Navy which was the used to create the U. S. Navy. Dickstein quoted a sailor saying about the plan that, "It seemed to come out of nowhere without much notice, so a lot of people were surprised it happened" (Dickstein, 2016). Sailors are very protective of their rates, and many have conveyed anger and confusion with the plan. According to Church, a seaman stated that "When you're a Boatswain's Mate it comes with a lot of pride because of what you do" (Church). On whitehouse.gov there is a petition requesting to have the old rating reinstated. As of two October, the petition had almost 41,000 signatures. • 65. Gaining Position Power In The Military In a military we obtain position power that comes with the rank and the position you are presently serving. The best way to acquire the position power is by performing your general and specific responsibilities per your rank. For example, in the Air Force if you are a Staff Sergeant your primary duty is to be the higher skill technician that will be responsible of training and for his subordinates. If your subordinates don't do their training by the first week of the month than the Staff Sergeant can make them work the weekend to finish their training while working 12 hour shift. The Technical Sergeants are the technical expertise that will advise the Production super–intendent as well as the expediter when the subordinates cannot repair the ... • 69. Lance Corporal Dinsmore : An Aviation Mechanic A large misconception about the military is that people think that everything is free for service members and their families and that they are just living off the government. The reality is that even people serving in our military have to pay taxes, have taxes deducted from their paychecks; as well as their uniforms, food, and housing expenses are also taken out of their paychecks. According to Lance Corporal Dinsmore, "While serving in the military, you are not living a lavished or exotic life to be honest, it is the exact opposite. We are constantly living paycheck to paycheck trying to save enough money to get by until the next pay day." The military is a very honorable occupation but, a very difficult lifestyle. Lance Corporal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hearing the emotions behind their tone really spoke to me and how they wish they could provide more for their children and loved ones. Service members who are married and have children are granted a housing allowance to help pay for a place for them to stay. While talking with these families, I learned that the housing allowance is typically not enough to live in an typical middle income house or apartment. By having this opportunity, I was touched while also gaining a large amount of prospective onto what their lives are like. One of the key events about this visit was the trip to the Commissary and the MCX. For some background, the Commissary is the grocery store and the MCX is like the military version of Target. Most people who don't know any different might be under the assumption that working for the government would mean that they provide the necessities for daily life. But, that is hardly true. When walking into these stores, just like in civilian world there are price tags on items that are for purchase. From food to clothing, there is real money associated with everything, nothing is free. One positive about these places on base are that they are tax exempt. This is a small relief for these military families with their tight budgets. So many aspects of this trip were a surprise to me. When in the military, your boss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I planned to eliminate the Generals, Field Marshals and Lieutenant generals who used me, a Captain, and instead of their game it would be mine. General Mahoney, a man of size and stature, ate his lunch at the same restaurant, at the same time everyday so he made it pretty easy for me. I worked with some unfavourable larcenists who may be considered bad guys but I say that in war there are no good or bad guys, it's all a matter of perspective. The unexpected civilian bombing wasn't so unexpected to me, in fact it was totally expected for I was the person who coordinated it. My plan was to just kill one at a time but what I was unaware of was that General Mahoney had invited both the major and Lieutenant general. Three birds and one stone...just too easy. • 73. Ever since I understood what the military was as a child,... Ever since I understood what the military was as a child, I wanted to be a Soldier. I wanted to defend and disseminate our nation's ideals by assisting others in what my nation knew was right. As I grew in the Army as an enlisted member, I decided to become a military officer. Although as a young man I may have made a righteous, albeit impulsive, decision to enlist; the decision to become an officer was not made at all lightly. Witnessed through my experience in the Army, I realize that I am observed differently by society as an officer. With this, as much as I have endured, my responsibilities as a Soldier would inherently change from this point forward. As a Soldier, I want to be a defender of my country while helping other nations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is imperative that my actions are not only expressed as honorable or virtuous, but interpreted that way as well. The people of America trust that the officer corps is a vested authority in which they depend upon for the welfare and lives of their children. Without the support of every officer serving as a role model for their subordinates, society will expect less from our military officers, weakening the military as a whole. Transitioning from enlisted to officer is an achievement that results in an increased awareness of responsibility. A few of these conceptions are: take care of Soldiers prior to taking care of myself; plan my career accordingly in order to progress; and to develop people, making the most of their talents. It is imperative to care for your Soldiers first in order for them to be ready to take care of the mission. As an officer, I will be giving the orders, but the Soldiers need to be ready and able to accomplish the task. To ensure I progress in my career, I need to plan for it. • 75. The Relationship Between Punishment And Positions Of Power Positions of Power Rachel A. Wood Columbia Southern University Abstract The proposed research assess if military individuals in a position of power who have committed a sexual assault were held to a lesser standard than individuals who were not in a position of power. In addition, this research examines the perception of the military's belief that a position has its privileges. This paper defines at least 65 percent of sexual assaults occur at a military location, with 89 percent of women stating the offender was in the military, and 60 percent of service members said the culprit was a higher rank, supervisor, or a unit leader (Morral, Gore, & Shell, 2014b, p. 101). Due to an individual's position in the military, could that position determine the reason individuals have been able to get away with sexual assault and remain in the military? Does the current issue lie with the military justice system's view on these types of positions? Could it be an issue with the men in a position of power that make up the top ninety–one percent of the highest–ranking individuals in the military (Chemaly, 2014)? Would this propose the reason why they were able to retire or receive a lesser punishment than those of a lower ranking position? Do the current documented surveys, methods of collecting data and empirical research show the relationship of outcomes consistently mitigated, were of those cases involving high ranking individuals in positions of power?
