Gabon ressources
Gabon is a country whose economy is essentially based on the exploitation of
natural resources such as:
● The oil
● The wood
● Mines (manganese)
The Oil Sector:
➔ With over 30 production fields, Gabon is actually among the 10th oil producer
in Africa. The sector is focused primarily on operations oil company like Total,
Shell, Eni…, natural gas (Perenco) and some refining (Sogara).
➔ The two largest producers which are Total and Shell realize 50% of the
production.
➔ The oil sector accounts for 50% of GDP, 60% of budgetary revenue and 80%
of export earnings of Gabon.
The Mining Sector:
➔ Gabon is full of various resources mining: manganese, iron, gold, phosphate
...) no exploited, with the exception of manganese.
➔ The Manganese is exploited in Gabon since 1960, in Haut-Ogooué, by
COMILOG. and other operators: the Australian BHP Billiton and the Chinese
CITIC.
➔ Second largest producer in the world, Gabon 25% of international trade in
manganese.
➔ The exploitation of manganese represents 10% of GDP and 6% of the
country's exports.

➔ The exploitation of manganese could make of Gabon the first world exporter
of manganese.
The forestry sector:
➔ The Gabonese forest accounts for almost 85% of national territory;records
more than 400 species including 60 species exploited (Okoumé, Ozigo,
Padouk, etc.).
➔ The country's commercial potential is estimated at 400 million m3
including
130 million Okoumé. Okoumé and Ozigo represent 90% of the sector wood.
