Malt-O-Meal Factory Business Analysis
Our trip to Malt–O–Meal factory (Campbell factory) was very interesting. I learned a lot about mass
production food factories. In addition, learning about quality control and safety measures helped me
gain a greater appreciation for the safe packaged food I consume on a regular basis. I learned that
malt–o–meal originally started as MOM brands in Owatonna. The branch in Northfield opened in
1961 and is called the Campbell factory. The factory employs 690 workers. The average time at the
company is 15 years. I don't know food industry so I would like context for if this is a relatively
high or low retention rate. This plant alone makes over 1 million pounds of cereal per year.
Additionally they have the ability to make many types of cereals. ... Show more content on

This is done through the ATP test. ATP is a source of energy for all living organisms. Thus by testing
for it we can get an estimate for the number of organisms living on a surface. She demonstrated this
principle with Finely and I. We both had our hands swabbed before His (2,400) Mine (680). Then
we were aloud to wash our hands His (210) Mine was down to (68). Both of us would have passed
as "clean equiptment." I enjoyed listening to the job description as a food scientist/ engineer. It
sounds like a cross between a lot of administrative meetings (making sure regulations and laws are
met) and being an engineer (constantly working on projects for the most efficient outcome). I am
curious to know if St. Olaf sends many alumni into the food science masters programs or has anyone
currently employed in a similar job. The conclusion of the presentation was great. We learned that
workers at malt o meal can take 3 bags of cereal a day. I wonder how much each bag actually costs
to produce? It must not be anywhere close to the $6 per bag it is sold for in the store. I really
appreciated the Honey Nut Scooters I got at the end of the day. This cereal is going to be the perfect

Brief History Of Beer Is The Most Popular Alcoholic...
Brief History of Beer
Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third–most popular drink overall
after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of "38 six–packs of beer, a dozen
bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka" a year,
according to the New York Times.
Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several
thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption
of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and
often spiritual role beer played in traditional ceremonies and feasts contributed to the development
of ritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of several
raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential in the
brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the water used in
brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium or acidic content
for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to that standard. Barley,
which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to germinate. This process is called
malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an industry in itself, called the malting
industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed to germinate with heated water in a vat for
a process known as "mashing". Then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally
germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. This beginning of germination is
called the malting. During the malting process the grain is first steeped for approximately three
days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by
drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The germination process creates a number of enzymes,
notably alfa–amylase and beta–amylase, which will be used to convert the starch in the grain into
sugar. Depending on the amount of roasting, the malt will take on dark colour and strongly

How Beer Has Changed Our Side, Time
Beer has been around longer than a few countries today. It has a lot more history to it than one might
believe, for example, Raley states that "Historians speculate that prehistoric nomads may have made
beer from grain & water before learning to make bread." (Raley 1998) Despite that speculation no
person can deny the time and effort has been put to perfecting a fine brew. Brewing beer can be very
rewarding however it does requires time, the right ingredients, and most importantly the complex
steps to create the perfect beer. Unfortunately for brew masters one of the most important pieces to
crafting the perfect beverage is not on our side, time. As John Palmer explains in his instructional
book How to Brew "The primary phase for ales is often 2 – 5 days, but 1 – 3 weeks is normal for a
lager." (Palmer, 2006) what he is referring to is the time from the boiling process to turn your
ingredients (which we will talk about shortly) to the long fermentation stages, and finally racking
and bottling. There are unofficial sources claiming to have some ales done in less than a week while
some lagers were said to take over a year. The most crucial and potentially most dangerous stages all
involve the uncertainty of time. A task such as bottling your brew too early can cause an eruption of
the bottle which could be dangerous for all involved. While not all incidents involving time are
physically dangerous it is extremely off–putting to think rushing that beer during the racking phase

Research Paper On Whiskey
Whiskey is a unique spirit, with a unique taste. Period. While it would be wrong to say whiskey is
unique in its own right since other spirits have some traits in common with whiskey. Vodka, for the
most part is also made of grain. Brandy is kept to mature in barrels. Rum has a similar range of
unaged and aged expressions, as does the Mexican favorite tequila. Those last three often benefit
from aging in used whiskey barrels. Gin may not seem to be related, but its grain spirit, and its
ancestral cousin, genever, is barrel–aged in the Netherlands to make a surprisingly whiskey–like
spirit. But no other spirit inspires as much passion as whiskey! There are countless more vodkas
than there are whiskeys, with indigenous "designer" brands popping up in every country but are
there books that examine the differences among them? Do people collect them? Tequila inspires
brand loyalty, but can you name the master distiller of your favorite brand? Do Gin bottles sell for

The creation of beer can be dated back to over 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia. Located in
the South of Mesopotamia , the cultivation of cereals also around the time of the creation of the first
forms of writing, the Sumerians were practicing the art of brewing beer. Artifacts excavated from
the ruins of ancient cities prove that brewing beer was already an established custom. Around 4,000
years ago, there was also evidence of Chinese brewing their own beer from rice, honey, grapes, and
hawthorn fruits. However the Sumerians made their beer from twice baked barley bread. Beer
allowed a more abundant sharing of an ingredient not very easy to cultivate at the beginning. In fact,
it was easier to do a lot of beer with a bit of grain that much bread with the same amount of grain.
Many beers are made by soaking breads fermented, cooked in water and leaving ferment the
mixture.
The beer is the oldest drink that the human being has produced and consumed even taking into
account the very significant modifications that it has suffered throughout the times. Its appearance
and influence in the life of man and their integration in the most diverse of cultures has taken
various versions that fix their origin in different stages of the history of humanity, and even in
different geographical and cultural scenarios.
Despite the countless opinions dating back to the emergence of the beer, recent

Alcoholic Beverages –an introduction
Alcoholic beverages have been around for thousands of years, some Stone Age beer jugs show that
fermented beverages were being produced as early as 10,000 B.C.[Hanson, David J. 1997]. In the
past beer was used as a substitute to drinking water, it was considered safer due to the unsanitary
ways that water was delivered, as the process boiled off any bacteria [Cahill, Mero M. There are
many different types of alcoholic beverages on the market, these are classified into the following
groups beer, wine and spirits (Alcoholic Beverages).
Beer – According to [Motarjemi, Yasmine Moy, Gerald Todd, Ewen. 2014] beers 'are alcoholic
beverages brewed from germinated barley (malt), hops, yeast and water.' It is also stated that beer
can be dated back to 9500BC, making it one of the worlds oldest prepared beverages.

industry, it seems that MCB is experiencing problem with place and determining its target market.
The case provides many examples of the company's difficulties in gaining more retail locations,
maintaining sufficient inventory level, and, the most important, improper positioning of its product,
which impeded the MCB to reach its potential customers.
Key Facts:

According to the case, the beer market was dominated by four largest brewing companies:
Anheuser–Busch, Miller Brewing, Adolph Coors, and Stroh. These four companies collectively

(Madcap 22) and, based on this fact, belonged to premium–priced beers. Therefore, for the MCB to
move towards the mainstream drinkers, it has to reduce prices, which will cause several negative
outcomes.

Beer Classification Paper
The history of beer dates back hundreds of years prior to written history. Besides water and tea, beer
is one of the most–frequently consumed beverages in the world. Contrary to popular belief, that all
beers are typically the same, there are many variances in color, flavor, strength, production method,
ingredients and origin. Beer can be divided into 2 broad sub–categories: ale and lager. Ales were the
first type of beer ever created before brewers knew the role yeast played during the beer making
process. Ale yeasts flocculate at the top of the fermentation tank and are brewed from malted barley
using a warm fermentation. The yeast ferments the beer quickly, which gives it a full bodied and
fruity taste. They also contain hops, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something else that adds to the taste of a beer, are additional ingredients. The last major difference
between ales and lagers are there supplementary ingredients. Ales typically have more of a malty
taste, due to an elevated amount of hops, malts, and roasted malts that are added during production.
Ale brewers, typically have more leeway with how they produce their beer, and tend to add a several
different ingredients during brewing, like the ones mentioned above. These extra ingredients are
referred to as, adjuncts. Brewers of lagers only have a few, simple ingredients: malted grain, hops,
yeast, and water. The production method of lagers is somewhat due to the stringent Reinheitsgebot
Law, also known as the "German beer purity law". This law prohibits any adjuncts during the
brewing process of lagers, only permitting water, barely, and hops as ingredients. Tea and water
maybe two of the most consumed beverages in the world, but beer is right behind in a close third.
Beer is gradually becoming more and more popular. This is evident through the new trends of beer
companies that have begun to accommodate for the new low calorie beer trend. Corona, Heineken,
and Anheuser–Busch have led the pack by producing "Corona Lite", "Heineken Lite", and
"Budweiser Select". With more and more companies attending to these trends, beer has broadened
their target market. Overall, these companies are innovating the deeply historic

Analysis of A.E. Housman’s Terence, this is stupid stuff...
A.E. Housman's "Terence, this is stupid stuff" is a poem that starts out as a friend of Terence talking
to him, but it then shifts to Terence talking to his friends. Then shifts from a humorous tone to a
more serious tone. It also shifts in setting, time, place, and idea. This poem demonstrates figurative
language which is language employing figures of speech; language that cannot be taken literally or
only literally. This poem also has several different poetic devices, which is a device that contributes
to content and poetic structure that does not involve meaning in term of language. This poem in
certain lines is very hard to follow without knowing the background.
The first verse of this poem Terence friend is speaking to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Terence uses humor in this verse to get across his point. Terence says, "And malt does more than
Milton can To justify God's ways to man". When Terence uses malt he is using it as a synecdoche,
which is a figure of speech in which a part is used for the whole. Malt is only half the beer you
could never just drink the malt. Milton is a famous poet and he was the first to say to justify God's
way of man. It is a famous line from his story "Paradise Lost".
The third verse moves to a serious tone. Terence is saying how the world is full of evil that there is
less good than evil. For instance he says, "Much good, but much less good than ill . . .Luck's a
chance, but trouble's sure . . .". This is the theme of the poem. He is describing his view of the
world, which is his poetry. He goes on to say that "And I will friend you, if I may . . .In the dark and
cloudy day". He is saying that through his poetry that he will befriend you.
The forth verse changes setting, time, place, tone, and idea. Terence changes from discussing his
poetry to giving an example of interpretive fiction, which provides valid insights into the nature of
human life or behavior. He begins telling a story of a king that everyone is trying to poison, but they
don't know that everyday he takes a little poison so he is immune to there attempts. Housman says,
"I tell the tale that I heard told . . .Mithridates, he died old". This is an example of alliteration, which

Crazy Horse Lur. Dorris's Crazy Horse Malt Liquor
The Hopi tribe is neglected of the recognition of their peaceful lifestyle due to stereotypical ideals
that suggest Native Americans are savages. "The Hopi tribe are peace–loving people who have kept
their culture intact due to the large part of living in isolated areas of Northeastern Arizona"
(Warpaths). What kept the Hopi tribe alive was living in isolation, this means that the Hopi Tribe
wanted to be left alone, this also suggests that the Hopi tribe did not want to be involved in conflict.
In fact, the Hopi strived towards being in a state of total reverence and respect for all things, to be at
peace with these things, and to live in accordance with the instructions of Maasaw, the Creator or
Caretaker of Earth. The Hopi observed their traditional ceremonies for the benefit of the entire
world. Some people who oppose the fact that Native Americans are not savages and are human
beings suggest that they are savage hunters who hunt and kill people impulsively, which is untrue
because they preferred being isolated to avoid conflict with other tribes or military who wanted to
hurt their people. In "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor" Dorris brings to light the issue of the bottle having a
native beside a Pony soldier, the enemy of the natives that massacred their people. This disrespect of
culture is uncivilized because the manufacturers of the Crazy Horse Malt Liquor bottle neglect the
natives' suffering. "It will place a dense and civilized population in large tracts of the country

The Process of Making Beer Essay
The Process of Making Beer
Malting Preparation
The dried grain kernels need to absorb moisture in the softening House so that the barley can
germinate. This process takes 50 hours. Throughout this time the barley is aired and washed using
pumps. Through the water separator, the barely "dives" – as the brewers like to say – into the
softening vat.
(Here place a picture Fig. No x)
Round softening vats and water separation prepare the grain during the even and slow insertion of
the barley. (Picture 2/3).
How the Malt is prepared
In every beer, the most important ingredient is malt. Bottom fermenting beers uses barley malt,
while top fermenting beers allow the use of other malts. For example, in addition to barley malt,

Moisture, Temperature and the length of the drying process determine if light or dark malt (and with
it the ingredients for lighter and darker beer styles) will be made and give malt its typical malt
aroma.
Finished Malt for the Brewery
The finished brewing malt contains only 3 or 4% moisture and is now ready to be stored. It is
cleaned and separated from the germinating malt, dusted and polished and then stored in silos that
are well ventilated and protected from dust development. The germination sets biological changes
within the kernel into action: Enzymes are activated or newly created. These developments are only
interrupted by the kiln–drying. During the mash (the mixing of the ground malt with water) the
enzymes – as desired – become active again.
The malt is now ready for the brewing process. Production methods will differ from brewery to
brewery, as well as according to brewery equipment and beer types. Athenian Brewery S.A uses its
own production methods; however the main processes will be similar. The description below applies
to the production of a typical lager beer in a brewery with a lauter tun installed.
Brewing Area
The first stage in the brewing process is the preparation of the wort. After the malt is crushed to grist
of suitable fineness, and preliminary treatment of the adjuncts takes place to facilitate extraction, the
malt and adjuncts are mixed with brewing water to form a mash.

Stereotypes In Crazy Horse Malt Liquors In America
Latinos are all illegal immigrants or dangerous thugs who sleep around, do drugs, and break the law,
universal generalizations seen in the twenty–first century. Stereotypes have become a method of
systematic suppression in America, a way to judge Latino immigrants and their children, to trap
them in an endless cycle of misery and discrimination. Michael Dorris perfectly explains negative
stereotypes influencing a minority in "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor," thus sparking my interest in
stereotyping. Dorris describes the stereotypical views of Native Americans, and how they have a
pattern of being negative, similar to how stereotypes about Latinos tend to be negative. The people
of America have a tendency to form opinions about Latinos based on stereotypes, stereotypes that
aren't necessarily true. Stereotypes have become part of a system; Hollywood exploits them and then
used as a form of judgment, which harms both the physical and mental health of both Latino
immigrants and Latino citizens. Thus, my question was formed; how do stereotypes influence the
safety of Latino immigrants in America? I first wanted to look at how stereotypes about Latino
immigrants influenced children, particularly in school systems. The article "Double Disadvantage or
Signs of Resilience? The Elementary School Contexts of Children From Mexican Immigrant
Families," by Robert Crosnoe, examines the effect negative stereotyping has had on children of
Latino immigrants, specifically in the education

Stereotypes In Michael Dorris's Crazy Horse Malt Liquor
Currently, there is a problem with American's. That problem is allowing themselves to be influenced
by stereotypes. Stereotypes allow people to organize the world, but sometimes the stereotypes are
negative. How do stereotypes affect the decisions of Americans about other people in their everyday
lives? In Michael Dorris's essay "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor", he is trying to raise awareness of
Native Americans stereotypes. The article begins by stating that Americans honor Indians in odd
ways, and continues by saying Native Americans have become popular in culture. Dorris then
continues by explaining how the Hornell Brewing Company use the imagery of Crazy Horse, a
native leader, to sell their brand of liquor. Next Dorris speaks about the modern day social illness
that the Native American population suffers. Dorris talks about how the U.S. government took the
land of the Native then speaks about how people play warrior and still continue these stereotypes. A

food insecurity in America. The documentary starts off by showing different people in America not

documentary shows Barbie taking part of a program called witness to hunger raising awareness for

A History Of The World
In A History of the World in Six Glasses, Standage discusses how beer and wine are made in terms
of the ingredients and how each beverage is related to each social class. The ingredients are what
differentiate one beverage from another beverage. An Ingredient is the main component that makes
the beverage unique and gives it an identity. An ingredient is what makes people to choose a
beverage from wide range of options. An ingredient gives the color, the texture and the taste to a
beverage which makes it unique from other beverages. When it comes to the social classes, beer and
wine played a huge role to set up the structure of the social classes. Both beer and wine made each
stage of social class devote to a certain beverage that would represent their social class. This essay, I
will describe how Tom Standage's text, A History of the World in Six Glasses, discusses the
relationship and the differences between ingredients of the beer and wine and the social classes with
regard to beer and wine. This synthesis will explain how the beer and wine were viewed in the in
terms of ingredients and how each social class was devoted to a certain beverage. To start off,
ingredients differ from each beverage and they give a specialty to each drink. Wine and Beer have a
lot of common qualities in terms of their ingredients and how they are made. For example, Standage
states, "Beer on the other hand, could be made from cereal crops, which were abundant and could be

The Methodology Behind Beer Production And Beer Analysis
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to mimic and understand the methodology behind beer
production and beer analysis. The type of beer produced was based on being a Paulener Weissbier
clone. Furthermore, this type of homemade beer followed the extract brewing methodology for beer
production. The analysis of beer consists of measuring various key factors that the beer industries
use to assert the quality of beer. These characterizations of a product are alcohol percentage, SRM
Colour, International bitter units and specific gravity.
It is important to address that for this specific lab alcohol percentage was replaced with total
carbohydrates. This was done since alcohol percentage was extremely hard to quantify with the

When the temperature of the water in the source pan reached 150 F the grain bag was introduced

raging between 155 to 165F, occasionally being squished by a wooden spoon with the intention to

placed in a strainer above the pan.
When the water in the kettle reached the boiling point the strainer (with the grain bag in it) was put

Essay on Speaking Out About Malt
Speaking Out about Malt Case 8.3 Page 404–405, Moral Issues in Business The case of Whitewater
Brewing and Mary Davis touches upon several views and moral issues that are not specifically black
or white. Case 8.3 specifically deals with a business called Whitewater Brewing Co. Whitewater
Brewing, as its name sounds, is a manufacturer of alcoholic refreshments, selling its brands to
various consumers. The article in particular focuses upon a specific Whitewater product, Rafter.
Rafter is being targeted to match other similar products that are bottled in a 40 ounce size. The
unfortunate part is that these 40 ounce size refreshments are not only popular with inner–city
teenagers but in the area where Whitewater sells these 40 ounce ... Show more content on

Ralph Jenkins, CEO of Whitewater, writes to Mary Davis to express the company's views on her
behavior and to ask her to first clear all further comments (regarding her personal views on liquor
production) with the business. Mary feels this to be an invasion of her right to free speech.
Additionally Mary informs Ralph Jenkins that she seeks to pursue her article further and even speak
at an engagement about her views (personal ones). Mr. Jenkins remains adamant that Mary adhere to
his requests further escalating things to state she can either comply or resign. So does Davis have a
moral right to free speech in the workplace, or can Whitewater determine the extent to her 'free'
speech? Also what would Davis's best path ethical path be? The second is the easiest to answer so I
will do that now. Davis could simply put resign, enabling her to champion her beliefs and become a
martyr for her cause, as it were. As for the first question the answer is not a simple clear cut one, and
ultimately will be an individual one. Currently there is already legal precedent that allows
companies to require employees not to "act or speak disloyally". Take the following case: In Korb v.

receiving complaints of his public involvement in an anti–nuclear proliferation nonprofit known as

Carlsberg Essay
Introduction
Carlsberg! Probably the best beer in the world!!! Right?
The Carlsberg family was from beginning was fueled by their desire to make beer of the highest
quality. The head of the family JC Jacobson founded the company in 1847 and named the beer after
his 1st son Carl. Brewing beer was extremely difficult but the family never gave up on their goal and

discovery showed that their beer was always the highest of quality and revolutionized the way beer
was made. The unique Carlsberg taste became famous. And as early as 1868 began its first exports.

The Drug Prevention Paper : Beer
Ellen Torman Drug Prevention Paper: Beer
Considered to be one of the biggest staples of high school and college parties and arguably the
ultimate source of peer pressure for teens all around the United States, beer has almost always had a
place in almost any celebratory setting for teenagers and adults alike. One of the most commonly
used legal "drugs" in the world, while beer can be seemingly harmless if consumed in small
amounts and in great moderation, it's impacts on the human body and also society can be
detrimental if consumed irresponsibly. In this paper, I will be discussing beer's effects on the body,

The origins of beer and it's history have been dated back to around 7000 BC in China where the
Chinese would produce fermented drinks that were made of rice and fruit. Additionally, research has
found that at around 3500–3100 BC, fermented drinks that could closely resemble beer were brewed
in Western Iran. Through it's thousands of years of production and utilization within societies, beer
has been playing an important role in many different cultures throughout history. In fact, according
to CBS news, "The brewing of alcohol seems to have been a very early development linked with
initial domestication, seen during Neolithic times in China, the Sudan, the first pottery in Greece and
possibly with the first use of maize." (CBS NEWS) Thus, it would be safe to argue that beer played
a notable part in the development of early civilizations around the globe. Continuing on with it's vast
history, at around 3000 BC, beer and the practices of it's brewing and production began to spread out
from the Middle East to European civilizations through tribes of Germanic and Celtic origins.
Jumping forward to the years of the industrial revolution in the 19th century, beer was finally ridded
of it's domestically–produced roots and moved on to be a widely popular, income–drawing business
through means of industrial production. As of today, the production and distribution of beer has

segments of the industry, and in particular across the different markets you have identified?

Malt liquor is a strong lager or ale in which sugar, corn or other aides are added to the malted barley

beer drinkers' preferences. Mr. Prangel's response to this problem is introducing a "light beer" form
of the popular Lager. In the past six years, the "light beer" industry as increased at an annual rate of

BREAK EVEN AND BREAK EVEN IN MARKET SHARE IN 2 YEARSBy keeping the same
price for light as the lager, breakeven in dollar amount is almost $10,000,000 which then translates
into 100,473 barrels. Within two years, Mountain Man Light will have to produce almost
$10,000,000 in sales and sale 20% of what Mountain Man Lager has worked almost a century to
sale. As for the market share, Mountain Man Light will need to gain a 26% of the market share in 2
years to break even. This seems very unrealistic since the leading brand light beer now consumers
32.9% and the second leading brand holds 17.8% of the market. Mountain Man Light will have to
become the second leading brand in the market within only 2 years (assuming that the sales of "light
beer" continue to grow annually by 4%). CANNIBALIZATION RATEBecause Mountain Man
Lager produces so many units and produces such high sales already, the difference in
cannibalization of 5% to 20% is pretty significant (almost 1,000,000). Two year contribution with a
5% cannibalization rate is $32,895,226.42 compared to $31,988,859.59 with a 20% cannibalization
rate. This is a major loss in sales of the Mountain Man Lager. If cannibalization is inevitable, the
lower percentage of cannibalization is the best option, it yields a higher contribution. Anything
above 20% is unnecessary and definitely not worth introducing the Mountain Man

Crazy Horse Malt Liquor
People have a natural tendency to stereotype, given to them the minute they can form ideas. These
stereotypes are seen as wrong by the twenty–first century society of America, something humanity
should fight within. They are seen as immoral, a human instinct to be fought. Stereotyping is
generally viewed as a negative thing: many people even claim it's evil, a way to oppress those
different from others. It is commonly thought to have a major influence on the way people perceive
others, often influencing their perceptions negatively, thus being seen as having a bad effect on the
way people view other cultures or ideas. However, other people claim that stereotyping can have a
positive influence over the lives of others, and is not innately bad. Thus begging the question; is
stereotyping inherently bad, or has it done some good for the world too?
In his article "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor," renowned author Michael Dorris speaks of stereotyping
against a culture. Being of Native American descent himself, he refers to many common ways the
American people stereotype against Native Americans, often unintentionally offending them for
seemingly innocuous actions. He speaks of streets and football teams named in honor of fallen
tribes, cartoon images, media generalizations that portray Native Americans a specific way, one that
creates distance between the Indians and the rest of the world. Dorris also explains that because of
stereotyping against Native Americans, the twenty–first

surfaces provide a physical barrier to infection and contain approximately 75% of the body's total
lymphocytes and large numbers of commensal microbes. The mucosae prevent pathogen entry,
however these thin, permeable surfaces remain particularly vulnerable to infection. (1) The mucosa–
associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is the organized and compartmentalized tissue that makes up
our mucosal immunity. MALT, which is almost fully independent from our systemic immunity, is
further divided into the gut–associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) and the nasopharyngeal–associated
lymphoid tissues (NALT). Within these tissues are B–cell zones, T–cell zones, and subepithelial
regions where APCs initiate adaptive immune responses both locally and distally in mesenteric
lymph nodes. The B–cell regions contain high concentrations of secretory IgA antibodies, which
largely regulate the humoral immune response in MALT. The MALT also houses microfold cells (M
cells) that sample antigens from the nasal and intestinal mucosa and transport them to APCs where
they are processed within a Peyer's patch or mesenteric lymph node. (1) ... Show more content on

One of the more common vaccinations in use today is an intranasal spray against influenza, called
FluMist. FluMist is a live influenza vaccine containing a temperature–sensitive attenuated virus
designed to work within the relatively cool temperatures of the nasal mucosal surfaces.

Mackenzie Blyth
Purpose–
In this assignment I have chosen to investigate how Glenmorangie single malt scotch whisky
distillery use the marketing mix to be competitive with other distilleries.
Background Information–
Glenmorangie has been distilling its single malt whisky since it was established in 1843. The
distillery lies on the banks of the beautiful Dornoch Firth, surround by barley fields, just on the
border of the Royal Burgh of Tain. Whilst on your tour around the distillery, you will see the process
all the way from masking and fermentation to distillation and maturation. During this you will see
all the casks, and gain a wide range of knowledge on Glenmorangie, its ... Show more content on

This is backed up by the reviews from tripadvisor as they are in many different languages, different
countries, all year round, with different types of people and groups going, from tourists to locals,
going by yourself or going as a group Glenmorangie invite all to come and visit their distillery. It is
appealing to all segments of the market, glenmorangie reach an even wider market due to their use
of different types of advertising; TV adverts, brochures, selling in shops, at the distillery, at airports
and online. However they do not reach as wide an audience as they could, they have a very weak
and nearly non–existent social media presences meaning they are not reaching as wide an audience
as they could, whether that be in buying their malt whisky or visiting their beautiful distillery. They
have lovely staff, and people often want to go back, creating repeat customers. Overall
Glenmorangie effectively use the marketing mix to be the best distillery, as they are 4th in the

Malt-O-Meal Factory Business Analysis

  • 1. Malt-O-Meal Factory Business Analysis Our trip to Malt–O–Meal factory (Campbell factory) was very interesting. I learned a lot about mass production food factories. In addition, learning about quality control and safety measures helped me gain a greater appreciation for the safe packaged food I consume on a regular basis. I learned that malt–o–meal originally started as MOM brands in Owatonna. The branch in Northfield opened in 1961 and is called the Campbell factory. The factory employs 690 workers. The average time at the company is 15 years. I don't know food industry so I would like context for if this is a relatively high or low retention rate. This is done through the ATP test. ATP is a source of energy for all living organisms. Thus by testing for it we can get an estimate for the number of organisms living on a surface. Both of us would have passed as "clean equiptment." I enjoyed listening to the job description as a food scientist/ engineer. It sounds like a cross between a lot of administrative meetings (making sure regulations and laws are met) and being an engineer (constantly working on projects for the most efficient outcome). I am curious to know if St. Olaf sends many alumni into the food science masters programs or has anyone currently employed in a similar job. The conclusion of the presentation was great. We learned that workers at malt o meal can take 3 bags of cereal a day. I wonder how much each bag actually costs to produce? It must not be anywhere close to the $6 per bag it is sold for in the store. I really appreciated the Honey Nut Scooters I got at the end of the day. • 3. Brief History Of Beer Is The Most Popular Alcoholic... Brief History of Beer Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage worldwide, and the third–most popular drink overall after water and tea. The average American drinks the equivalent of "38 six–packs of beer, a dozen bottles of wine and two quarts of distilled spirits like gin, rum, single malt Scotch, or vodka" a year, according to the New York Times. Research has shown that people have been brewing this famous beverage as early as several thousand years before the Common Era. Recent studies claim that the production and consumption of beer was a major factor in the development of civilized society, arguing that the important and often spiritual role beer played in traditional ceremonies and feasts contributed to the development of ritual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Production Understanding how beer is fermented is important to recognize the importance of several raw ingredients required in the process. Pure water, quality malts and hops are essential in the brewing process. A source of pure water is necessary to brew good beer. As such, the water used in brewing is purified to rigidly set standards. If it does not have the proper calcium or acidic content for maximum activity of the enzymes in the mash, it must be brought up to that standard. Barley, which is the main raw material in beer, must first be left to begin to germinate. This process is called malting. This prerequisite stage of production of beer forms an industry in itself, called the malting industry. During the malting process, the grain is allowed to germinate with heated water in a vat for a process known as "mashing". Then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. This beginning of germination is called the malting. During the malting process the grain is first steeped for approximately three days, then it is spread out in layers for a week to germinate and finally germination is halted by drying in a kiln or by a kilning process. The germination process creates a number of enzymes, notably alfa–amylase and beta–amylase, which will be used to convert the starch in the grain into sugar. Depending on the amount of roasting, the malt will take on dark colour and strongly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. How Beer Has Changed Our Side, Time Beer has been around longer than a few countries today. It has a lot more history to it than one might believe, for example, Raley states that "Historians speculate that prehistoric nomads may have made beer from grain & water before learning to make bread." (Raley 1998) Despite that speculation no person can deny the time and effort has been put to perfecting a fine brew. Brewing beer can be very rewarding however it does requires time, the right ingredients, and most importantly the complex steps to create the perfect beer. Unfortunately for brew masters one of the most important pieces to crafting the perfect beverage is not on our side, time. As John Palmer explains in his instructional book How to Brew "The primary phase for ales is often 2 – 5 days, but 1 – 3 weeks is normal for a lager." (Palmer, 2006) what he is referring to is the time from the boiling process to turn your ingredients (which we will talk about shortly) to the long fermentation stages, and finally racking and bottling. There are unofficial sources claiming to have some ales done in less than a week while some lagers were said to take over a year. The most crucial and potentially most dangerous stages all involve the uncertainty of time. A task such as bottling your brew too early can cause an eruption of the bottle which could be dangerous for all involved. While not all incidents involving time are physically dangerous it is extremely off–putting to think rushing that beer during the racking phase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Research Paper On Whiskey Whiskey is a unique spirit, with a unique taste. Period. While it would be wrong to say whiskey is unique in its own right since other spirits have some traits in common with whiskey. Vodka, for the most part is also made of grain. Brandy is kept to mature in barrels. Rum has a similar range of unaged and aged expressions, as does the Mexican favorite tequila. Those last three often benefit from aging in used whiskey barrels. Gin may not seem to be related, but its grain spirit, and its ancestral cousin, genever, is barrel–aged in the Netherlands to make a surprisingly whiskey–like spirit. But no other spirit inspires as much passion as whiskey! There are countless more vodkas than there are whiskeys, with indigenous "designer" brands popping up in every country but are there books that examine the differences among them? Do people collect them? Tequila inspires brand loyalty, but can you name the master distiller of your favorite brand? Do Gin bottles sell for over $100,000 at auctions? Cognac may reach those dizzying heights but does it command the huge sales that Whiskey does? Whiskey overtook brandy in terms of popularity and consumer preference over a century back and has never looked back... Whiskey is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. The Creation Of Beer : An Overview Essay Estefania Zavala Professor J. Dartley BIO–130–602WC October 23,2016 The creation of beer can be dated back to over 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia. Located in the South of Mesopotamia , the cultivation of cereals also around the time of the creation of the first forms of writing, the Sumerians were practicing the art of brewing beer. Artifacts excavated from the ruins of ancient cities prove that brewing beer was already an established custom. Around 4,000 years ago, there was also evidence of Chinese brewing their own beer from rice, honey, grapes, and hawthorn fruits. However the Sumerians made their beer from twice baked barley bread. Beer allowed a more abundant sharing of an ingredient not very easy to cultivate at the beginning. In fact, it was easier to do a lot of beer with a bit of grain that much bread with the same amount of grain. Many beers are made by soaking breads fermented, cooked in water and leaving ferment the mixture. The beer is the oldest drink that the human being has produced and consumed even taking into account the very significant modifications that it has suffered throughout the times. Its appearance and influence in the life of man and their integration in the most diverse of cultures has taken various versions that fix their origin in different stages of the history of humanity, and even in different geographical and cultural scenarios. • 24. Beer Classification Paper The history of beer dates back hundreds of years prior to written history. Besides water and tea, beer is one of the most–frequently consumed beverages in the world. Contrary to popular belief, that all beers are typically the same, there are many variances in color, flavor, strength, production method, ingredients and origin. Beer can be divided into 2 broad sub–categories: ale and lager. Ales were the first type of beer ever created before brewers knew the role yeast played during the beer making process. Ale yeasts flocculate at the top of the fermentation tank and are brewed from malted barley using a warm fermentation. The yeast ferments the beer quickly, which gives it a full bodied and fruity taste. They also contain hops, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Something else that adds to the taste of a beer, are additional ingredients. The last major difference between ales and lagers are there supplementary ingredients. Ales typically have more of a malty taste, due to an elevated amount of hops, malts, and roasted malts that are added during production. Ale brewers, typically have more leeway with how they produce their beer, and tend to add a several different ingredients during brewing, like the ones mentioned above. These extra ingredients are referred to as, adjuncts. Brewers of lagers only have a few, simple ingredients: malted grain, hops, yeast, and water. The production method of lagers is somewhat due to the stringent Reinheitsgebot Law, also known as the "German beer purity law". This law prohibits any adjuncts during the brewing process of lagers, only permitting water, barely, and hops as ingredients. Tea and water maybe two of the most consumed beverages in the world, but beer is right behind in a close third. Beer is gradually becoming more and more popular. This is evident through the new trends of beer companies that have begun to accommodate for the new low calorie beer trend. Corona, Heineken, and Anheuser–Busch have led the pack by producing "Corona Lite", "Heineken Lite", and "Budweiser Select". Housman's "Terence, this is stupid stuff" is a poem that starts out as a friend of Terence talking to him, but it then shifts to Terence talking to his friends. Then shifts from a humorous tone to a more serious tone. It also shifts in setting, time, place, and idea. This poem demonstrates figurative language which is language employing figures of speech; language that cannot be taken literally or only literally. This poem also has several different poetic devices, which is a device that contributes to content and poetic structure that does not involve meaning in term of language. Terence uses humor in this verse to get across his point. Terence says, "And malt does more than Milton can To justify God's ways to man". When Terence uses malt he is using it as a synecdoche, which is a figure of speech in which a part is used for the whole. Malt is only half the beer you could never just drink the malt. Milton is a famous poet and he was the first to say to justify God's way of man. It is a famous line from his story "Paradise Lost". The third verse moves to a serious tone. Terence is saying how the world is full of evil that there is less good than evil. For instance he says, "Much good, but much less good than ill . . .Luck's a chance, but trouble's sure . . .". This is the theme of the poem. He is describing his view of the world, which is his poetry. He goes on to say that "And I will friend you, if I may . . .In the dark and cloudy day". He is saying that through his poetry that he will befriend you. The forth verse changes setting, time, place, tone, and idea. Terence changes from discussing his poetry to giving an example of interpretive fiction, which provides valid insights into the nature of human life or behavior. He begins telling a story of a king that everyone is trying to poison, but they don't know that everyday he takes a little poison so he is immune to there attempts. Dorris's Crazy Horse Malt Liquor The Hopi tribe is neglected of the recognition of their peaceful lifestyle due to stereotypical ideals that suggest Native Americans are savages. "The Hopi tribe are peace–loving people who have kept their culture intact due to the large part of living in isolated areas of Northeastern Arizona" (Warpaths). What kept the Hopi tribe alive was living in isolation, this means that the Hopi Tribe wanted to be left alone, this also suggests that the Hopi tribe did not want to be involved in conflict. In fact, the Hopi strived towards being in a state of total reverence and respect for all things, to be at peace with these things, and to live in accordance with the instructions of Maasaw, the Creator or Caretaker of Earth. The Hopi observed their traditional ceremonies for the benefit of the entire world. Some people who oppose the fact that Native Americans are not savages and are human beings suggest that they are savage hunters who hunt and kill people impulsively, which is untrue because they preferred being isolated to avoid conflict with other tribes or military who wanted to hurt their people. In "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor" Dorris brings to light the issue of the bottle having a native beside a Pony soldier, the enemy of the natives that massacred their people. Moisture, Temperature and the length of the drying process determine if light or dark malt (and with it the ingredients for lighter and darker beer styles) will be made and give malt its typical malt aroma. Finished Malt for the Brewery The finished brewing malt contains only 3 or 4% moisture and is now ready to be stored. It is cleaned and separated from the germinating malt, dusted and polished and then stored in silos that are well ventilated and protected from dust development. The germination sets biological changes within the kernel into action: Enzymes are activated or newly created. These developments are only interrupted by the kiln–drying. During the mash (the mixing of the ground malt with water) the enzymes – as desired – become active again. The malt is now ready for the brewing process. Production methods will differ from brewery to brewery, as well as according to brewery equipment and beer types. Athenian Brewery S.A uses its own production methods; however the main processes will be similar. • 39. Stereotypes In Crazy Horse Malt Liquors In America Latinos are all illegal immigrants or dangerous thugs who sleep around, do drugs, and break the law, universal generalizations seen in the twenty–first century. Stereotypes have become a method of systematic suppression in America, a way to judge Latino immigrants and their children, to trap them in an endless cycle of misery and discrimination. Michael Dorris perfectly explains negative stereotypes influencing a minority in "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor," thus sparking my interest in stereotyping. Dorris describes the stereotypical views of Native Americans, and how they have a pattern of being negative, similar to how stereotypes about Latinos tend to be negative. The people of America have a tendency to form opinions about Latinos based on stereotypes, stereotypes that aren't necessarily true. Stereotypes have become part of a system; Hollywood exploits them and then used as a form of judgment, which harms both the physical and mental health of both Latino immigrants and Latino citizens. Thus, my question was formed; how do stereotypes influence the safety of Latino immigrants in America? I first wanted to look at how stereotypes about Latino immigrants influenced children, particularly in school systems. The article "Double Disadvantage or Signs of Resilience? The Elementary School Contexts of Children From Mexican Immigrant Families," by Robert Crosnoe, examines the effect negative stereotyping has had on children of Latino immigrants, specifically in the education ... Additionally Mary informs Ralph Jenkins that she seeks to pursue her article further and even speak at an engagement about her views (personal ones). Mountain Man Brewing Company Mountain Man Brewing Company | To: | Chris Prangel | From: | 001706975 | CC: | David Nasser | Date: | 3/4/2013 | Re: | Bringing the Brand to Light | Comments: | For the first time in the company's history, Mountain Man Brewing Company is experiencing declining sales in response to changes in beer drinkers' preferences. Mr. Prangel's response to this problem is introducing a "light beer" form of the popular Lager. In the past six years, the "light beer" industry as increased at an annual rate of 4% while sales of traditional beer has been declining annually by 4%. Although this seems like a probable solution, there are two major problems Mr. Prangel is facing: 1.) Mountain Man's current target market will not approve of this new ... BREAK EVEN AND BREAK EVEN IN MARKET SHARE IN 2 YEARSBy keeping the same price for light as the lager, breakeven in dollar amount is almost $10,000,000 which then translates into 100,473 barrels. Within two years, Mountain Man Light will have to produce almost $10,000,000 in sales and sale 20% of what Mountain Man Lager has worked almost a century to sale. As for the market share, Mountain Man Light will need to gain a 26% of the market share in 2 years to break even. This seems very unrealistic since the leading brand light beer now consumers 32.9% and the second leading brand holds 17.8% of the market. Mountain Man Light will have to become the second leading brand in the market within only 2 years (assuming that the sales of "light beer" continue to grow annually by 4%). CANNIBALIZATION RATEBecause Mountain Man Lager produces so many units and produces such high sales already, the difference in cannibalization of 5% to 20% is pretty significant (almost 1,000,000). Two year contribution with a 5% cannibalization rate is $32,895,226.42 compared to $31,988,859.59 with a 20% cannibalization rate. This is a major loss in sales of the Mountain Man Lager. If cannibalization is inevitable, the lower percentage of cannibalization is the best option, it yields a higher contribution. Shinjiro Torii invested his family fortune to pursue his dream of building the first Japanese whisky distillery. The Yamazaki Distillery, Japan's first whisky distillery, began construction in Yamazaki on the outskirts of Kyoto in 1923. Japan's first whisky, Suntory Shirofuda (white label) launched. It was poorly received by the market and failed due to it imitating Scottish whiskies. • 76. Crazy Horse Malt Liquor People have a natural tendency to stereotype, given to them the minute they can form ideas. These stereotypes are seen as wrong by the twenty–first century society of America, something humanity should fight within. They are seen as immoral, a human instinct to be fought. Stereotyping is generally viewed as a negative thing: many people even claim it's evil, a way to oppress those different from others. It is commonly thought to have a major influence on the way people perceive others, often influencing their perceptions negatively, thus being seen as having a bad effect on the way people view other cultures or ideas. However, other people claim that stereotyping can have a positive influence over the lives of others, and is not innately bad. Thus begging the question; is stereotyping inherently bad, or has it done some good for the world too? In his article "Crazy Horse Malt Liquor," renowned author Michael Dorris speaks of stereotyping against a culture. Being of Native American descent himself, he refers to many common ways the American people stereotype against Native Americans, often unintentionally offending them for seemingly innocuous actions. He speaks of streets and football teams named in honor of fallen tribes, cartoon images, media generalizations that portray Native Americans a specific way, one that creates distance between the Indians and the rest of the world. Why (MALT) Is The Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue The mucosal surfaces that line the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts are sites of information and material exchange between the environment and the body. These mucus–covered surfaces provide a physical barrier to infection and contain approximately 75% of the body's total lymphocytes and large numbers of commensal microbes. The mucosae prevent pathogen entry, however these thin, permeable surfaces remain particularly vulnerable to infection. (1) The mucosa– associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is the organized and compartmentalized tissue that makes up our mucosal immunity. MALT, which is almost fully independent from our systemic immunity, is further divided into the gut–associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) and the nasopharyngeal–associated lymphoid tissues (NALT). Within these tissues are B–cell zones, T–cell zones, and subepithelial regions where APCs initiate adaptive immune responses both locally and distally in mesenteric lymph nodes. The B–cell regions contain high concentrations of secretory IgA antibodies, which largely regulate the humoral immune response in MALT. The MALT also houses microfold cells (M cells) that sample antigens from the nasal and intestinal mucosa and transport them to APCs where they are processed within a Peyer's patch or mesenteric lymph node.
