A
Proposal for
Corporate Sponsorship
Of
Rainbow Children Home Nepal
For sustainability of the organization
Prepared by: Rainbow Children Home Nepal
November 2019
Executive Summary
The next six months are crucial for our survival as an institution, since our income has reduced to
one of the lowest in all of our 13 years. It’s unfortunate for us that most of our sponsors and
fundraisers from the USA, Norway, Australia and a few other countries, who we have had the
support of for more than a decade, currently have situations requiring more of their time for their
own needs, as they deserve to. The repercussion of this situation however, means many of our
friends have not been able to collect funds for our NGO as they used to and they have already
notified that unfortunately their financial support will be even less or nothing the next year.
Rainbow Children Home Nepal has always been dedicated to changing lives and helping people
get out of poverty. By initially taking in 13 children into our residential care, we started our journey
13 years ago. We have become really moved witnessing our beneficiaries being able to
demonstrate their independence and excel at their careers.
Now we are supporting a second generation of children here at Rainbow and these 13 years have
taught us all how to make lasting changes. However, financially it's been a rough ride all along.
Of course we have always managed somehow and there has always been a larger community of
sponsors, fundraisers, volunteers and other well-wishers, without the help of which this wouldn’t
have been possible to deliver such a great deal of service to so many communities.
First and foremost, child sponsorships have been our primary revenue model for the home but the
cost of managing an institution with more than 12 staff, 40 children and making sure another 40
children are getting opportunities towards their education, who, otherwise could not have gotten
the chance to go to school, indeed is a challenging job. Together with the support of sponsors,
volunteers and longtime friends we have been able to go on each month at a time.
Other models like volunteering and extra money from the sponsors is neither reliable nor do we
feel so great about it. Some sponsors sometimes feel they shouldn’t be requested for extra funds
once they agree for the child sponsorship agreement as it’s supposed to cover all basic expenses
of a child. We have to set the sponsorship rate with consideration to what other children homes in
Nepal are requesting, but unlike these organizations, we have no corporate or philanthropic
backing for expenses such as staff salaries, house rent and utilities. The minimum wage in Nepal
is the highest in South Asia and has been increasing steadily over the last few years. The
government has also been recommending that all institutions integrate the social security for their
staff, which indeed is becoming increasingly expensive each year.
Thus, it has been something we have to manage as an organization together with our community
who always help to promote us. As the first generation of children under our care have moved on,
so too has the support from some of their sponsors and friends for our NGO, as they have continued
helping these individual children in their education and their career, and these children do indeed
deserve to get better opportunities. This withdrawal of financial support from our international
friends has led to a situation where all our revenue streams have dried up, forcing us to take a
stance to come out of this crisis.
Thus, we have come out with a call for ongoing corporate sponsorships so that we can find
corporate partners who care about social problems and want to respond by partnering with our well
established organization, which has been giving shelter, education, development trainings to
children, responding quickly at the times to disasters such as the 2015 earthquake and landslides
each year. An organization whose primary goal is to serve the people below the $2 per day
threshold and help them come out of the sickness called poverty.
So what value could we add to the corporate sponsorships we may secure? The best we could
do is provide exposure for your business and help get your name out there as a socially conscious
business. To achieve this, we propose to have a banner of logos of sponsors at the entrance of our
home, the same banner design in our official website and blog and last but not the least, use the
same printed design in all of our programs and events and the programs and events we take part
in.
The sole purpose of this proposal is to find Corporate Sponsors for financial sustainability of
Rainbow Children Home Nepal as well as to organize a special, inter children home event for
children living in different children homes in Pokhara to celebrate the partnership.
The sponsorships are designed in different tiers in order to see what kind of interest we might get.
From a large corporation who want to be a key sponsor, to small enterprises who want to be a part
of the cause, we have equally considered our options and designed the costs so that many small
businesses can also join us in this worthy cause with a fair contribution.
We are located in the prime tourist area of Pokhara, Nepal, just 30 seconds from the main street
and 3 minutes from the picturesque Fewa Lake, where all of the tourism is concentrated. So during
the peak seasons we often see many groups of sponsors, volunteers and visitors make a visit to us
for different purposes. Although we couldn’t devise any solid financial model that was reliable, as
a community, we have grown together in thousands of people.
Similarly, our website has back up from our community so we have a very good ranking in google
which brings us many visitors each year. During the off season, it can be 30 new unique visitors
each month to more than 800 unique visitors during the peak season of September, October,
November, April and May. The numbers used to be double last year but this year the whole tourism
industry has seen the largest decline of tourists in years. The new international airport in Pokhara
and Visit Nepal Year 2020, a tourism year organized by the Government of Nepal, is expected to
increase the number of tourists who come to Pokhara by many folds in the next couple of years.
So we assume the stats will increase significantly. And last but not the least, our volunteers in IT
are now doing SEO work to ensure we are increasing our ranking in search engines with more
keywords.
To date we have had experience in helping children, many poor families and people in dangerous
medical conditions, helping communities with relief and support for rebuilding during natural
disasters. Almost all of the first generation of children we took into our care a decade ago are now
rehabilitated and so far their progress has always inspired us. We have repaired our building and
invested in altering the furniture of all the rooms last year, so that the children can have a more
calm and soothing experience. Last year with the help of some sponsors, Rainbow Children Home
Nepal finally bought a land of its own for agricultural purposes in Pame, Nepal.
We are getting many requests for adding new children who need the care and attention we've been
providing but amidst a crisis, we don’t know what will happen after six months. How can we run
an organization without enough funds to cover our basic expenses? The current child
sponsorship, volunteering and donations from visitors is not reliable at all. It's either we find a new
revenue stream or we have to plan on quick rehabilitation of the second generation of children
living with us.
Without corporate partnerships we can think of no other way to get out of this situation. We have
dedicated 13 years into social service and this is all we can use as our asset. With the goodwill we
have developed both nationally and internationally, the partnerships will definitely provide a wide
exposure for our prospective corporate sponsors.
Introduction
We are in our thirteenth year and what a challenging, as well as rewarding one it has been for us.
The rewarding job of tackling poverty at its heart and changing the lives of people, bringing them
out of the dark viscous poverty cycle which can last for generations.
Without a doubt, our sponsors, and our community have always been the lifeblood of our
organization. We are merely the organs functioning for a cause which is indeed why the sponsors
support us. Without them, none of it would have been possible.
However, with thirteen years of struggling financially, we are revisiting our corporate sponsorships
plan and trying to fundraise further running of the project amid a financial crisis. This proposal is
an in-depth examination of how we have been functioning and our vision for how we can overcome
this financial situation and secure more sustainable funding for our children home.
Statement of Need
We have always relied on child sponsorships, volunteering and occasional donations from visitors
as the main source of income for the functioning of the home. Albeit, somehow we've always been
able to deal with that situation every time, but things are getting more and more out of hands. As
apparent from our donations collected over the last five years, the net amount of donations is
decreasing year after year and we have thus landed in a financial crisis.

is divided into four quarters. We have just entered our second quarter.
According to our estimation, with the current state, we will be able to collect only Rs 5,695,000
till the end of fourth quarter this year.
Problems
The child sponsorship program is great because it is the main source of income. In return, the
children and the sponsors keep contact with each other and the sponsors help in the upbringing of
the home. However, comparing with the economy at the moment, the money is merely enough to
cover the expenses for food, clothing, school and programs we are obliged to conduct each year
like the festivals and picnics.
Volunteering surely provides extra hands in helping us manage the home. Perhaps, because of
many news and articles discouraging volunteering in the international media over last few years,
only few volunteers drop in these days. Mostly, volunteers increase our community so we have
always been keen on accepting volunteers, helping them find local experiences and stay in our
guest house for a reasonable price.
Sometimes visitors often visit and provide occasional donations. Also sponsors on their visit often
help with donations. It has been the main source of funds for what was needed at that instant, for
example the new rice cooker, or the new cupboard, new fridge etc. It is natural for occasional
visitors to be more inclined to buy something the children might want rather than do a cash
donation. We also have to plan out events, picnics and festivals and we have been managing that
from extra funds from different donations that sponsors occasionally send us. We really don’t feel
good to keep asking for money with the sponsors for every new program we have to do.
We often recall the days our Spanish friends brought a group of volunteers who worked alongside
us for half a year, helping us manage the home and other volunteers. Our German sponsors would
organize a joint picnic for the children and the ladies of the handicraft, our American friends came
with their RC helicopter followed by a bunch of kids from the streets bringing in sweets and gifts
for the children. Another time we worked with our Australian sponsors on making things better at
home. We really have had some golden moments, but little did we know things can fall apart. Of
course, the whole reason for why we exist is indeed the children. Unfortunately for us, most of our
sponsors cannot continue to spend as much time in fundraising as they once had and so we have
decreased funding from all sides. And as kids have grown, some sponsors now only support the
children directly and they deserve to, but it has affected us financially. We acknowledge it has
indeed been our weakness not finding more partners or a different revenue model which would
guarantee the sustainability of the home and not have landed us in this situation.
With such a crisis it is becoming more and more hard to manage the home. We are always short
of funding for salaries, house rent and utilities. The peak season of October has never been so dry,
more and more businesses seem to close down each week. It feels like a recession and we are in
total despair.
Solution
Funding is a critical part of any social initiative. The only thing we can think of right now is finding
Corporate Sponsorships. Across the world, major humanitarian actions are funded by corporations
wishing to give back to the society and environment.
In turn, we could provide exposure of corporate support to the society by giving space for the logo
of sponsors on our website, our blog, the board in front of the home as well as use printed banners
whenever we host or join in programs and events.
The funds thus collected would be used to cover the deficits we've been having in addition to
enhancing our training programs and events for the children. We would also conduct a special inter
children home event for children living in children homes across Pokhara.
Over the years, we have created our own brand value and goodwill which we believe can be
utilized at such times of crises.
Goals and Objectives
This year has been a very stressful year financially. We cannot be wrong in acknowledging over
the course of our 13 years, we have failed to secure a sustainable financial model for Rainbow
Children Home as an organization.
Therefore, the sole purpose of this proposal is to find corporate partners who would like to play a
key role in the financial sustainability of a project which is dedicated to changing the lives of
children and continuously helping people get out from the viscous cycle of poverty that can last
for generations.
Specific Objectives
a. To find Corporate Sponsors for the financial sustainability of Rainbow Children Home
Nepal.
b. To organize a special, inter children home event for children living in different children
homes in Pokhara.
Methods and Implementation Plan
Over the years we have developed a community which is inspiring, motivating and supportive.
Despite having a poor record in fundraising compared with other children homes, our beneficiary
children have come out very active in living independently and excelling at their careers as well
as engaging in community works.
We hope our community will help us in promoting the concept. Over the years what we have done
may have created "social capital" which is our network and goodwill in Pokhara. We are hopeful
of collaborating with some local institutions as well. We will encourage our community to promote
the corporate sponsorships and we will also market here in Nepal to find local partners.
We plan to introduce different tiers of sponsorships starting from title/major sponsor to co-
sponsors with 5 different levels of sponsorships. We will sign a one-year contract with each
sponsors. We will create a banner design with the size of their logo reflective of their level of
sponsorship. The same design will be used in the front page of our website, blog, printed banners
in all the programs and events we will do or be a part of for the year.
Sponsorship Breakdown Structure
Title Sponsor – $13000 USD
Title Sponsors will be our key partners and their logos will have the largest size. Our main target
are multinationals, corporations, global firms and other national and international companies and
INGOs with a vision of corporate social responsibility.
Co- Sponsor- $5000 USD
The logo will be second in size and will be displayed directly below or at the side of the Title
Sponsor’s logo. Medium firms, international organizations, domestic and international firms are
our main target.
Platinum Sponsor- $2000 USD
The logo will be third in size and will be displayed directly below or at the side of our Co-Sponsor’s
logo. Communities, Social Clubs, Medium firms, International organizations, domestic and
international firms are our main target.
Gold Sponsor – $500 USD
The logo will be displayed directly below or at the side of Platinum Sponsor's logo. Small
businesses, startups, communities, Social Clubs, Medium firms, International organizations,
domestic and international firms are our main target.
Silver- Sponsor- $250 USD
The logo will be displayed directly below or at the side of Platinum Sponsor's logo. Local
organizations, travel agencies, small businesses, startups, communities, Social Clubs, Medium
firms, International organizations, domestic and international firms are our main target.
What benefits could the sponsors get?
1. Backing the sustainability of community, sponsors get to work with a community which is
effectively and efficiently changing the lives of people bringing them out of poverty.
2. We rank in the first page of google (at least here in Nepal) for search terms like "volunteer
in Pokhara", "children homes in Nepal", "orphanage in Nepal". So the sponsors get a
considerable amount of exposure from travelers and people searching in the internet about
such terms.
3. The Rainbow Children Home community of sponsors, volunteers, well-wishers and
visitors are a diverse group of people numbering in thousands around the world, so the
corporate sponsors will get fast exposure to the group.
4. We are located in a prime location here in Pokhara. Because of this we are the children
home which probably has the largest occasional visitors who come to visit, learn about the
organization, research or even just come in after seeing the board outside of the children
home. The sponsors board at the front of the house will definitely provide a good exposure
to the travelers and researchers here in Pokhara.
5. Each year we organize more than 15 events and take part in more than 10 community
events. This will definitely provide a visibility to our sponsors as we will use sponsors
banners in each programs and events.
Technical analysis of the Website and Blog
(This is presented by our colleagues in IT who have been not just helping for all our IT needs at
Rainbow Children Home Nepal, but also mentoring the children all these years so they go away
with handy professional skills in graphics and print designing, developing websites, basically
getting the most out of the internet.)
1. Our official website www.orphancarenepal.org
Domain Originally Registered on: 2007-10-01
Domain Modified: 2019-10-02
This is a static website which has good ranking in google so we are using it as it is while
developing another website along with a blog which gives regular information about our
activities.
There was an external webmaster who we assigned for registration of the domain for us
in 2007. At the end of each year, he would be difficult to reach and didn’t renew our
domain promptly. This resulted in our website often being down for weeks. So in 2019
we acquired the domain by letting it expire and awaiting all night to secure our domain.
SEO Score: 4.5/5
Design Score: 3/5
Unique visitors per month on average: 30
Unique visitors in October: 850
Unique visitors per April/May : 540
After about a year, we shifted our focus from design and updates to improving SEO. A
decade ago we used to rank high on internet searches for various keywords like
‘volunteer in Nepal’, ‘orphanage in Nepal’ etc. However, a lot evolved in the years and
we slightly lost our track there. But for the last year we have delved deep into researching
what does it really take to get to the front page in google and we have overcome this
decline and feature back on the first google search page with just a few keywords.
From the beginning volunteers have played a critical role, all the way from the design of
the logo which was made by the first group of 8 volunteers together. Their role has been
key in writing good content.
Also with the internet, networking plays a big role, and because of the community who
have developed around the beautiful children we care for, we have a good linked profile
from many partners' websites, blogs and interviews. This has been the backbone of our
strength.
With some new tricks we learned in a few months, we were able to bring back the lost
glory of being in the first page of google.
2. Our Blog www.orphannepal.org
Domain Originally Registered on 2016-10-25
Domain Modified: 2018-10-26
We registered this domain back in 2016 as a backup website because our original domain
would expire and we couldn’t find the webmaster. In 2019, after we no longer needed the
domain while we were also in need to develop a blog to give regular information as the
community was growing and sending emails to everyone was becoming more and more
impracticable, we created our blog in the domain.
SEO Score: 2/5
Design Score: 4/5
While this is a recent development, we do intend to keep updating the blog with all the
events and happenings around the children home so as our community will hear about the
blog, they will definitely keep coming back to our blog for more information. We are
sure within a year we can create a good following over the blog.

Institutional Background
Rainbow Children Home Nepal is an NGO officially registering in 2007 with the Social
Welfare Council and various other government agencies. In the last 12 years, we have
changed the lives of more than 80 children by providing them residence, guaranteeing food,
medical attention and helping them build a solid foundation for their academic and
professional careers while also helping 40 more with educational opportunities and
responding with drastic measures during drastic times.
This year has been even more special as it was the year most of the first generation of
children we brought to the family 13 years ago were rehabilitated back with their families.
In the 13 years the total number of beneficiaries have been more than 150 children with
most of them not staying with us until high school due to such things as the improvement
of finances in their families or relatives being able to support them.
An absolute poverty is a dreadful disease that lasts through generations and we are
dedicated to helping the children within our responsibility to be independent as well as
come out from the sickness, once and for all.
It is also worth noting that Rainbow Children Home Nepal has played crucial roles in
helping humanity during catastrophic times. During the devastating earthquake that hit
Nepal in 2015, we made more than 15 visits to various villages near the epicenter areas. In
addition, we also reconstructed the Goganpani Health Centre in the Dhading district, which
was reduced to rubble with the first tremor. Similarly, many times we have made visits to
various parts of Nepal bringing relief such as tents, food and clothes to impoverished
people; stationary to children in rural areas; assistance to pregnant mothers and infants
during catastrophes; providing medicines as well as conducting health camps. Our visit to
Bara-Parsa is one such example of when amid a crisis, we just took charge to provided
what we could, helping right away.
Goma Dhakal, our director leads us with her lifetime of dedication to society. Before she
founded RCH-N, she had served leading different social organizations voluntarily for 26
years and had made a big impact locally and nationally. Fighting for justice of abused
women, arranging settlement of children in critical situations (eg child rescued or lost both
parents in accidents), opening up new advocacy groups, fighting against social crimes,
volunteering in different NGOs working with children, women, drug abuse, creating day
care centers etc.. Goma has had a high level of experience in delivering social service. Even
now she is a growing and inspiring social entrepreneur and a real impact making role model
and leader for the society here in Pokhara.
Concerning the sustainability of the organization, last year we were able to purchase 1 acre
of land in Pame for use in agriculture. The fund was separately received from our Italian
partners (Versanti and Caritas) for the purpose of buying land and no part of child sponsor
money was used for the purpose. We also reconstructed a new kitchen (just one floor, not
the whole building) on our ground floor for the children as well as repaired the girls’
building. But again we had received funds from the same organizations, so no part of child
sponsorship money was ever used for this purpose also.
Conclusion
In the last 13 years Rainbow Children Home Nepal has played a critical role in
safeguarding the basic rights of children by providing a nurturing and loving family and
community. As an organization, financial stability is crucial for the operation and
sustainability of the home which has always been our deepest trouble.
The present model of fundraising from sponsors, visitors and volunteers has decreased
extensively over the last few years. As the tourism market here in Pokhara is finding a hard
time to attract tourists, we are extremely in need of finding new avenues to continue our
operation and this proposal is just about that.
Major humanitarian actions around the world are funded by corporate sponsorships and we
are sure it will be a mutually benefitial relationship to tie up with corporations for providing
the financial backing to provide sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal.
We intend to give the best credits and publicity to our corporate sponsors by giving them
space for their logos in our website, blog as well as using the same design in print in front
of the home and using them in all the programs and events we do or be a part of.
We hope this is a new way for us to move forward with new partnerships and secure the
sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal, for there are many children who deserve
education, who deserve to get trained and be independent and live their life happily and to
their full potential.

Rch corporate-sponsorship-proposal

  • 1. A Proposal for Corporate Sponsorship Of Rainbow Children Home Nepal For sustainability of the organization Prepared by: Rainbow Children Home Nepal November 2019
  • 2. Executive Summary The next six months are crucial for our survival as an institution, since our income has reduced to one of the lowest in all of our 13 years. It’s unfortunate for us that most of our sponsors and fundraisers from the USA, Norway, Australia and a few other countries, who we have had the support of for more than a decade, currently have situations requiring more of their time for their own needs, as they deserve to. The repercussion of this situation however, means many of our friends have not been able to collect funds for our NGO as they used to and they have already notified that unfortunately their financial support will be even less or nothing the next year. Rainbow Children Home Nepal has always been dedicated to changing lives and helping people get out of poverty. By initially taking in 13 children into our residential care, we started our journey 13 years ago. We have become really moved witnessing our beneficiaries being able to demonstrate their independence and excel at their careers. Now we are supporting a second generation of children here at Rainbow and these 13 years have taught us all how to make lasting changes. However, financially it's been a rough ride all along. Of course we have always managed somehow and there has always been a larger community of sponsors, fundraisers, volunteers and other well-wishers, without the help of which this wouldn’t have been possible to deliver such a great deal of service to so many communities. First and foremost, child sponsorships have been our primary revenue model for the home but the cost of managing an institution with more than 12 staff, 40 children and making sure another 40 children are getting opportunities towards their education, who, otherwise could not have gotten the chance to go to school, indeed is a challenging job. Together with the support of sponsors, volunteers and longtime friends we have been able to go on each month at a time. Other models like volunteering and extra money from the sponsors is neither reliable nor do we feel so great about it. Some sponsors sometimes feel they shouldn’t be requested for extra funds once they agree for the child sponsorship agreement as it’s supposed to cover all basic expenses of a child. We have to set the sponsorship rate with consideration to what other children homes in Nepal are requesting, but unlike these organizations, we have no corporate or philanthropic backing for expenses such as staff salaries, house rent and utilities. The minimum wage in Nepal is the highest in South Asia and has been increasing steadily over the last few years. The government has also been recommending that all institutions integrate the social security for their staff, which indeed is becoming increasingly expensive each year. Thus, it has been something we have to manage as an organization together with our community who always help to promote us. As the first generation of children under our care have moved on, so too has the support from some of their sponsors and friends for our NGO, as they have continued helping these individual children in their education and their career, and these children do indeed deserve to get better opportunities. This withdrawal of financial support from our international friends has led to a situation where all our revenue streams have dried up, forcing us to take a stance to come out of this crisis.
  • 3. Thus, we have come out with a call for ongoing corporate sponsorships so that we can find corporate partners who care about social problems and want to respond by partnering with our well established organization, which has been giving shelter, education, development trainings to children, responding quickly at the times to disasters such as the 2015 earthquake and landslides each year. An organization whose primary goal is to serve the people below the $2 per day threshold and help them come out of the sickness called poverty. So what value could we add to the corporate sponsorships we may secure? The best we could do is provide exposure for your business and help get your name out there as a socially conscious business. To achieve this, we propose to have a banner of logos of sponsors at the entrance of our home, the same banner design in our official website and blog and last but not the least, use the same printed design in all of our programs and events and the programs and events we take part in. The sole purpose of this proposal is to find Corporate Sponsors for financial sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal as well as to organize a special, inter children home event for children living in different children homes in Pokhara to celebrate the partnership. The sponsorships are designed in different tiers in order to see what kind of interest we might get. From a large corporation who want to be a key sponsor, to small enterprises who want to be a part of the cause, we have equally considered our options and designed the costs so that many small businesses can also join us in this worthy cause with a fair contribution. We are located in the prime tourist area of Pokhara, Nepal, just 30 seconds from the main street and 3 minutes from the picturesque Fewa Lake, where all of the tourism is concentrated. So during the peak seasons we often see many groups of sponsors, volunteers and visitors make a visit to us for different purposes. Although we couldn’t devise any solid financial model that was reliable, as a community, we have grown together in thousands of people. Similarly, our website has back up from our community so we have a very good ranking in google which brings us many visitors each year. During the off season, it can be 30 new unique visitors each month to more than 800 unique visitors during the peak season of September, October, November, April and May. The numbers used to be double last year but this year the whole tourism industry has seen the largest decline of tourists in years. The new international airport in Pokhara and Visit Nepal Year 2020, a tourism year organized by the Government of Nepal, is expected to increase the number of tourists who come to Pokhara by many folds in the next couple of years. So we assume the stats will increase significantly. And last but not the least, our volunteers in IT are now doing SEO work to ensure we are increasing our ranking in search engines with more keywords. To date we have had experience in helping children, many poor families and people in dangerous medical conditions, helping communities with relief and support for rebuilding during natural disasters. Almost all of the first generation of children we took into our care a decade ago are now rehabilitated and so far their progress has always inspired us. We have repaired our building and invested in altering the furniture of all the rooms last year, so that the children can have a more
  • 4. calm and soothing experience. Last year with the help of some sponsors, Rainbow Children Home Nepal finally bought a land of its own for agricultural purposes in Pame, Nepal. We are getting many requests for adding new children who need the care and attention we've been providing but amidst a crisis, we don’t know what will happen after six months. How can we run an organization without enough funds to cover our basic expenses? The current child sponsorship, volunteering and donations from visitors is not reliable at all. It's either we find a new revenue stream or we have to plan on quick rehabilitation of the second generation of children living with us. Without corporate partnerships we can think of no other way to get out of this situation. We have dedicated 13 years into social service and this is all we can use as our asset. With the goodwill we have developed both nationally and internationally, the partnerships will definitely provide a wide exposure for our prospective corporate sponsors.
  • 5. Introduction We are in our thirteenth year and what a challenging, as well as rewarding one it has been for us. The rewarding job of tackling poverty at its heart and changing the lives of people, bringing them out of the dark viscous poverty cycle which can last for generations. Without a doubt, our sponsors, and our community have always been the lifeblood of our organization. We are merely the organs functioning for a cause which is indeed why the sponsors support us. Without them, none of it would have been possible. However, with thirteen years of struggling financially, we are revisiting our corporate sponsorships plan and trying to fundraise further running of the project amid a financial crisis. This proposal is an in-depth examination of how we have been functioning and our vision for how we can overcome this financial situation and secure more sustainable funding for our children home. Statement of Need We have always relied on child sponsorships, volunteering and occasional donations from visitors as the main source of income for the functioning of the home. Albeit, somehow we've always been able to deal with that situation every time, but things are getting more and more out of hands. As apparent from our donations collected over the last five years, the net amount of donations is decreasing year after year and we have thus landed in a financial crisis. 0 2000000 4000000 6000000 8000000 10000000 12000000 14000000 2070-2071 2072-2073 2073-2074 2074-2075 2075-2076 2076-77 Income Statement of from 2070-71 to 2075-76 (Estimated till the end of 2076-77)
  • 6. Fig- Income Statement of Last 5 years and 2076-77 (estimated till the end of the financial year) In figure: Year Income (in Nrs) 2076-77 5,695,000 (Estimated for this year) 2075-2076 9,501,499 2074-2075 9,851,084 2073-2074 11,280,937 2072-2073 12,374,119 2070-2071 11,786,915 The numbers are taken as they are in the audited financial reports. Nepalese calendar is 57 years ahead in numbers so the reports are for 2013/14-2018/19. Our financial year begins mid-July and is divided into four quarters. We have just entered our second quarter. According to our estimation, with the current state, we will be able to collect only Rs 5,695,000 till the end of fourth quarter this year. Problems The child sponsorship program is great because it is the main source of income. In return, the children and the sponsors keep contact with each other and the sponsors help in the upbringing of the home. However, comparing with the economy at the moment, the money is merely enough to cover the expenses for food, clothing, school and programs we are obliged to conduct each year like the festivals and picnics. Volunteering surely provides extra hands in helping us manage the home. Perhaps, because of many news and articles discouraging volunteering in the international media over last few years, only few volunteers drop in these days. Mostly, volunteers increase our community so we have always been keen on accepting volunteers, helping them find local experiences and stay in our guest house for a reasonable price. Sometimes visitors often visit and provide occasional donations. Also sponsors on their visit often help with donations. It has been the main source of funds for what was needed at that instant, for example the new rice cooker, or the new cupboard, new fridge etc. It is natural for occasional visitors to be more inclined to buy something the children might want rather than do a cash donation. We also have to plan out events, picnics and festivals and we have been managing that from extra funds from different donations that sponsors occasionally send us. We really don’t feel good to keep asking for money with the sponsors for every new program we have to do.
  • 7. We often recall the days our Spanish friends brought a group of volunteers who worked alongside us for half a year, helping us manage the home and other volunteers. Our German sponsors would organize a joint picnic for the children and the ladies of the handicraft, our American friends came with their RC helicopter followed by a bunch of kids from the streets bringing in sweets and gifts for the children. Another time we worked with our Australian sponsors on making things better at home. We really have had some golden moments, but little did we know things can fall apart. Of course, the whole reason for why we exist is indeed the children. Unfortunately for us, most of our sponsors cannot continue to spend as much time in fundraising as they once had and so we have decreased funding from all sides. And as kids have grown, some sponsors now only support the children directly and they deserve to, but it has affected us financially. We acknowledge it has indeed been our weakness not finding more partners or a different revenue model which would guarantee the sustainability of the home and not have landed us in this situation. With such a crisis it is becoming more and more hard to manage the home. We are always short of funding for salaries, house rent and utilities. The peak season of October has never been so dry, more and more businesses seem to close down each week. It feels like a recession and we are in total despair. Solution Funding is a critical part of any social initiative. The only thing we can think of right now is finding Corporate Sponsorships. Across the world, major humanitarian actions are funded by corporations wishing to give back to the society and environment. In turn, we could provide exposure of corporate support to the society by giving space for the logo of sponsors on our website, our blog, the board in front of the home as well as use printed banners whenever we host or join in programs and events. The funds thus collected would be used to cover the deficits we've been having in addition to enhancing our training programs and events for the children. We would also conduct a special inter children home event for children living in children homes across Pokhara. Over the years, we have created our own brand value and goodwill which we believe can be utilized at such times of crises. Goals and Objectives This year has been a very stressful year financially. We cannot be wrong in acknowledging over the course of our 13 years, we have failed to secure a sustainable financial model for Rainbow Children Home as an organization. Therefore, the sole purpose of this proposal is to find corporate partners who would like to play a key role in the financial sustainability of a project which is dedicated to changing the lives of
  • 8. children and continuously helping people get out from the viscous cycle of poverty that can last for generations. Specific Objectives a. To find Corporate Sponsors for the financial sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal. b. To organize a special, inter children home event for children living in different children homes in Pokhara. Methods and Implementation Plan Over the years we have developed a community which is inspiring, motivating and supportive. Despite having a poor record in fundraising compared with other children homes, our beneficiary children have come out very active in living independently and excelling at their careers as well as engaging in community works. We hope our community will help us in promoting the concept. Over the years what we have done may have created "social capital" which is our network and goodwill in Pokhara. We are hopeful of collaborating with some local institutions as well. We will encourage our community to promote the corporate sponsorships and we will also market here in Nepal to find local partners. We plan to introduce different tiers of sponsorships starting from title/major sponsor to co- sponsors with 5 different levels of sponsorships. We will sign a one-year contract with each sponsors. We will create a banner design with the size of their logo reflective of their level of sponsorship. The same design will be used in the front page of our website, blog, printed banners in all the programs and events we will do or be a part of for the year. Sponsorship Breakdown Structure Title Sponsor – $13000 USD Title Sponsors will be our key partners and their logos will have the largest size. Our main target are multinationals, corporations, global firms and other national and international companies and INGOs with a vision of corporate social responsibility. Co- Sponsor- $5000 USD The logo will be second in size and will be displayed directly below or at the side of the Title Sponsor’s logo. Medium firms, international organizations, domestic and international firms are our main target.
  • 9. Platinum Sponsor- $2000 USD The logo will be third in size and will be displayed directly below or at the side of our Co-Sponsor’s logo. Communities, Social Clubs, Medium firms, International organizations, domestic and international firms are our main target. Gold Sponsor – $500 USD The logo will be displayed directly below or at the side of Platinum Sponsor's logo. Small businesses, startups, communities, Social Clubs, Medium firms, International organizations, domestic and international firms are our main target. Silver- Sponsor- $250 USD The logo will be displayed directly below or at the side of Platinum Sponsor's logo. Local organizations, travel agencies, small businesses, startups, communities, Social Clubs, Medium firms, International organizations, domestic and international firms are our main target. What benefits could the sponsors get? 1. Backing the sustainability of community, sponsors get to work with a community which is effectively and efficiently changing the lives of people bringing them out of poverty. 2. We rank in the first page of google (at least here in Nepal) for search terms like "volunteer in Pokhara", "children homes in Nepal", "orphanage in Nepal". So the sponsors get a considerable amount of exposure from travelers and people searching in the internet about such terms. 3. The Rainbow Children Home community of sponsors, volunteers, well-wishers and visitors are a diverse group of people numbering in thousands around the world, so the corporate sponsors will get fast exposure to the group. 4. We are located in a prime location here in Pokhara. Because of this we are the children home which probably has the largest occasional visitors who come to visit, learn about the organization, research or even just come in after seeing the board outside of the children home. The sponsors board at the front of the house will definitely provide a good exposure to the travelers and researchers here in Pokhara. 5. Each year we organize more than 15 events and take part in more than 10 community events. This will definitely provide a visibility to our sponsors as we will use sponsors banners in each programs and events.
  • 10. Technical analysis of the Website and Blog (This is presented by our colleagues in IT who have been not just helping for all our IT needs at Rainbow Children Home Nepal, but also mentoring the children all these years so they go away with handy professional skills in graphics and print designing, developing websites, basically getting the most out of the internet.) 1. Our official website www.orphancarenepal.org Domain Originally Registered on: 2007-10-01 Domain Modified: 2019-10-02 This is a static website which has good ranking in google so we are using it as it is while developing another website along with a blog which gives regular information about our activities. There was an external webmaster who we assigned for registration of the domain for us in 2007. At the end of each year, he would be difficult to reach and didn’t renew our domain promptly. This resulted in our website often being down for weeks. So in 2019 we acquired the domain by letting it expire and awaiting all night to secure our domain. SEO Score: 4.5/5 Design Score: 3/5 Unique visitors per month on average: 30 Unique visitors in October: 850 Unique visitors per April/May : 540 After about a year, we shifted our focus from design and updates to improving SEO. A decade ago we used to rank high on internet searches for various keywords like ‘volunteer in Nepal’, ‘orphanage in Nepal’ etc. However, a lot evolved in the years and we slightly lost our track there. But for the last year we have delved deep into researching what does it really take to get to the front page in google and we have overcome this decline and feature back on the first google search page with just a few keywords.
  • 11. From the beginning volunteers have played a critical role, all the way from the design of the logo which was made by the first group of 8 volunteers together. Their role has been key in writing good content. Also with the internet, networking plays a big role, and because of the community who have developed around the beautiful children we care for, we have a good linked profile from many partners' websites, blogs and interviews. This has been the backbone of our strength. With some new tricks we learned in a few months, we were able to bring back the lost glory of being in the first page of google. 2. Our Blog www.orphannepal.org Domain Originally Registered on 2016-10-25 Domain Modified: 2018-10-26 We registered this domain back in 2016 as a backup website because our original domain would expire and we couldn’t find the webmaster. In 2019, after we no longer needed the domain while we were also in need to develop a blog to give regular information as the community was growing and sending emails to everyone was becoming more and more impracticable, we created our blog in the domain. SEO Score: 2/5 Design Score: 4/5 While this is a recent development, we do intend to keep updating the blog with all the events and happenings around the children home so as our community will hear about the blog, they will definitely keep coming back to our blog for more information. We are sure within a year we can create a good following over the blog. • 12. Update Blog Update Website Prepare Special Event Conduct Special Event Institutional Background Rainbow Children Home Nepal is an NGO officially registering in 2007 with the Social Welfare Council and various other government agencies. In the last 12 years, we have changed the lives of more than 80 children by providing them residence, guaranteeing food, medical attention and helping them build a solid foundation for their academic and professional careers while also helping 40 more with educational opportunities and responding with drastic measures during drastic times. This year has been even more special as it was the year most of the first generation of children we brought to the family 13 years ago were rehabilitated back with their families. In the 13 years the total number of beneficiaries have been more than 150 children with most of them not staying with us until high school due to such things as the improvement of finances in their families or relatives being able to support them. An absolute poverty is a dreadful disease that lasts through generations and we are dedicated to helping the children within our responsibility to be independent as well as come out from the sickness, once and for all. It is also worth noting that Rainbow Children Home Nepal has played crucial roles in helping humanity during catastrophic times. During the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015, we made more than 15 visits to various villages near the epicenter areas. In addition, we also reconstructed the Goganpani Health Centre in the Dhading district, which was reduced to rubble with the first tremor. Similarly, many times we have made visits to various parts of Nepal bringing relief such as tents, food and clothes to impoverished people; stationary to children in rural areas; assistance to pregnant mothers and infants during catastrophes; providing medicines as well as conducting health camps. Our visit to Bara-Parsa is one such example of when amid a crisis, we just took charge to provided what we could, helping right away. Goma Dhakal, our director leads us with her lifetime of dedication to society. Before she founded RCH-N, she had served leading different social organizations voluntarily for 26 years and had made a big impact locally and nationally. Fighting for justice of abused women, arranging settlement of children in critical situations (eg child rescued or lost both parents in accidents), opening up new advocacy groups, fighting against social crimes, volunteering in different NGOs working with children, women, drug abuse, creating day care centers etc.. Goma has had a high level of experience in delivering social service. Even
  • 13. now she is a growing and inspiring social entrepreneur and a real impact making role model and leader for the society here in Pokhara. Concerning the sustainability of the organization, last year we were able to purchase 1 acre of land in Pame for use in agriculture. The fund was separately received from our Italian partners (Versanti and Caritas) for the purpose of buying land and no part of child sponsor money was used for the purpose. We also reconstructed a new kitchen (just one floor, not the whole building) on our ground floor for the children as well as repaired the girls’ building. But again we had received funds from the same organizations, so no part of child sponsorship money was ever used for this purpose also. Conclusion In the last 13 years Rainbow Children Home Nepal has played a critical role in safeguarding the basic rights of children by providing a nurturing and loving family and community. As an organization, financial stability is crucial for the operation and sustainability of the home which has always been our deepest trouble. The present model of fundraising from sponsors, visitors and volunteers has decreased extensively over the last few years. As the tourism market here in Pokhara is finding a hard time to attract tourists, we are extremely in need of finding new avenues to continue our operation and this proposal is just about that. Major humanitarian actions around the world are funded by corporate sponsorships and we are sure it will be a mutually benefitial relationship to tie up with corporations for providing the financial backing to provide sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal. We intend to give the best credits and publicity to our corporate sponsors by giving them space for their logos in our website, blog as well as using the same design in print in front of the home and using them in all the programs and events we do or be a part of. We hope this is a new way for us to move forward with new partnerships and secure the sustainability of Rainbow Children Home Nepal, for there are many children who deserve education, who deserve to get trained and be independent and live their life happily and to their full potential.
