This was presented at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Sotland, on 29th November 2007. The main focus is Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) but at the end I introduce Second Life and talk about my work with students in SL. Firstly I talked about what IBL is and then moved on to describe the work of the Centre for Inquiry Based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences (CILASS) which is based at Sheffield University. I mentioned the level 1 module "Inquiry in Infrmation Management" (new last year), where I am part of the teaching team, and in particular I talked about the activity in Second Life with my first year "Information Literacy" class.

Presentation given at the CILASS (Centre for Inquiry Based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences) IBL cafe, on 11 December 2007, at the University of Sheffield, UK. It begins by briefly introducing the virtual world, Second Life (SL), and indicating its value for professional and staff development. It goes on to define Inqury Based Learning (IBL) and links a SL initiative to IBL strategy. There is a brief description of this initiative, in which 1st year BSc Information Management students are inquiring into SL residents' information behaviour.

This presentation was given at the ESCalate conference in April 2008, held at Stirling University, Scotland. It describes Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) approaches in two undergraduate BSc Information Management classes. The intervention in one of the modules, Inf104 Information Literacy, involved use of Second Life (SL) to carry out research interviews. The 2nd module, Inquiry in Information Management, focused on small scale research projects.

This presentation was given at the CILASS Staff-Student Symposium, held on 2nd May 2008 in the Information Commons, Sheffield University. In it I describe use of Second Life, and the island funded by CILASS, for both undergraduate and Masters students. I include some reflections from those involved. It does not include an explanation of IBL (since thsi was an IBL conference), and a very brief introduction to SL, but has more detail and reflection on the interventions than some of the previous presentations.
