Technology As A Way Of Life And Express
The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital
age– growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of
youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have
already been labelled by sociologist as "'digital natives' (Prensky 2001a) and the 'net generation'
(Tapscott 1998)" (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not
something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the
idea, as they perceive "technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times"
(Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate
advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use
the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: "technology should be used with the
needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus" (Russo et
al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise
that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing
advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately
arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student's
lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay
attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of
information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk–West created for teacher to give
to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it "easily assimilates into their
everyday life world" (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration
skills within students. Erin Murphy (2010) conducted an experiment centering around educators use
of Audience Response Systems, commonly

The Rational Way Of Life
The Rational Way of Life
Epictetus' Stoic Recommendation of Freedom
Freedom is an arbitrary concept that has been and will always be limited. The notion of freedom is
possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist,
believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that
humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be
internally free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in
complete control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of
what they cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has
been lost through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus
defines is an internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic
recommendation offers a simple yet rational approach of living life freely.
Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion
provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. Arendt
states that the Founding Fathers of America equated law based on public opinion with tyranny; in
this sense, democracy was to them a new form of despotism. "Paradoxical as it may sound, it was in
fact under the impact of the Revolution that the revolutionary spirit in America

In Seymour, Basketball Is A Way Of Life
In Seymour, basketball for many people is a way of life. The Games are usually filled with a sea of
fans wearing red and white shirts jumping up and down screaming. Also now that Seymour had just
won the division 2 state championship 2002 and their 4th straight appearance at Madison. This was
only their fourth appearance and eventually made it to 8 straight Kohl center appearances. So many
people's problems are not pursuing in their dreams. If people followed in their dreams so many more
people would succeed. Seymour followed their dreams by making state 8 straight years in a row.
From the years 2003 to 2006 a lot of my surroundings were mostly basketball related. In those first
four years my life my obsession quickly began.
Then in 2011 when Seymour finally got back to state which was a familiar place for Seymour they
took on a pretty good Whitefish Bay team. There fans completely outnumbered our fans by maybe a
couple hundred fans. Whitefish Bay fans filled up over half the student section that they had. The
game had almost started and you could see the lights reflect off the shiny court. If you were for
either team's fans you could feel the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

far in my young life. Then in seventh grade we slipped a little bit and took fourth place. But this
year in 8th grade we hope to take back first place because this is our last year of tournament
basketball. This is our last chance to win middle school state. The main thing is don't let people tell
you what to do and go after your goal. If you achieve more and don't let people mess with your

Religion : A Way Of Life
Religion: A Way of Life Religion is something weird to the general public however that was not the
case during the fall of Rome and the rise of the Byzantine Empire. During that era religion was one
of the few things that tied people together. Without religion the only thing keeping the people of
Rome together was the government. Since Alexander the Great's empire leading to the Byzantine
Empire led to a mix of many culture and religions for the very first time. Greece and Rome believed
in a set of Gods but the lands they conquered did not. The Eastern Roman Empire showed how one
unique religion such as Christianity brought people of many different back grounds together. The
fall of the Western Roman Empire led the people to people depending on Christianity. The text
Arius, Letter to Alexander, Bishop of Alexandria and The Nicene Creed showed the public matter of
Christianity. On the other hand the excerpt Augustine of Hippo, Confessions and The Life of St.
Theodore of Sykeon addresses the personal effect of Christianity, the private affairs. The point is
that is that over the course of about 300 years Christianity has united the fallen people of Rome onto
the Byzantine Empire, the transition from the private life to the public use of Christianity.
Christianity when it first started to spread was debatable. People were capable of holding their own
opinion of Christianity enabling them to refute the church. This was a private aspect of Christianity

Looking at Life in Different Ways
"At the end of Look Both Ways, the film–maker convinces viewers that the characters are capable of
looking at their lives in different ways." Do you agree?
In the film Look Both Ways, director Sarah Watt explores the theme that perspective can determine
experience in life. The film demonstrates that life is an unscripted event where no one knows the
final outcome and we can often become overwhelmed by how seemingly little control we exert over
the navigation of our lives By using main characters Nick, Meryl and Andy, she suggests that
changing a person's outlook on life can enrich that person and help overcoming problems. Nick
learnt that cancer does not necessarily implicate death, Meryl freed herself from her fears by
realising risks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only upon her actual submission to the fact that "things just happen" can Meryl finally begin to
regain her happiness.
Conversely, Andy's view of death is quite different to that of Nick and Meryl. To him, it is an escape
route. His negative view on life has him belief that everything happens 'deliberately.' Andy is
disgruntled by his job, embittered by his previous marriage and feels threatened by Anna's
pregnancy and the prospect of 'paying the bills for the rest of his life' to another woman. This
moulds him into an egoistic person, refusing to take responsibility as he believes everyone has an
'agenda'. Angry and frustrated, the extent of Andy's distress is shown as he immaturely pops a bag of
chips at the store and tells the gospel choir to 'shut up'. However, his encounter with Nick at the train
track is cathartic in bringing a turnaround of his ideas. When he discovers Nicks diagnoses he steps
back from the railway and realises how his selfish attitude has kept him hostage to leading an
enjoyable life. Andy looks at his life from another angle, that this child may be his opportunity to
redeem himself. In the concluding photomontage we see him holding his baby, suggesting that he
was able to move on with his life and change his perspective on the past and future.
Julia's perspective changes throughout the film. The sudden death of her boyfriend has left

Learning as a Way of Life
What I Learned
"We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning
the answer itself." People go through their whole lives trying to figure out who they are, look for a
sense of purpose or belonging, or attempt to discover the right path for them–self. The lucky ones
have somehow found what ever it is they were looking for throughout their journey. They try to
teach the people who are still looking how to find their way but often fail because it is not up to
them where or how someone else should live their life. It is up to the individual himself to find
fulfillment.

How can we be confident in the things we do if we don't have a good relationship with ourselves? I
don't think anyone can survive today without having relatively good confidence in themselves
because everything will be second guess everything and they will never be satisfied with their
results. They will never know for example if the profession they are in is really right for them.
I've always been relatively confident on my career path. I know I want to do something which
involves marketing and management but I'm unclear as do a specific job title. The Strong
assessment states that my highest theme is Enterprising. The description has interests in business,
leadership, and entrepreneurship. The work activities include selling, managing, persuading,
marketing. When I look at the descriptions for enterprising I see my name written all over it. These
are the interests and work activities that I want to pursue. But when these results are compared to the
assessments in the book, there are dissimilarities.
For example, I have a strong interest in leadership according to the Strong Interest Inventory, but
after taking the chapter 7 assessments I have moderate to low leadership skills. I've always thought I
possessed great leadership skills but realize now that I hardly ever act on or try to develop those
skills. At certain times in life I step up to the plate and shine but I don't stay in the spot light for very
long. It is not that

Sports Are The Way Of Life
To many Americans sports have been the way of life. The people think that sports are one of the
main reasons why the different cultures and backgrounds have come together. Sports tend to make
people put all of their differences aside and make them communicate and possibly became friends
with people they would have never thought of. The effects of sports on people lives are good
because they teach good values and habits along with bringing people together as one. Sports are at
the center of our country and teaches a lot about good values. The U.S. citizens often tend to take
sports too far which was stated when President Clinton talks about how the country is insane about
sports and that they use sports as a way to how we act. Most Americans would say that the only
good thing about the country is the sports. They think sports is the only place for people to get the
same chances and where people work the hardest and it brings all the people together (Saunders).
Sports were probably the best thing that happened to the people in the United States because Sports
had become more of a way of life in American in which everyone tried to involve with complex
issues (Starr). Although it took a while for sports to change sports affected some changes in
American society in ways including an increase in ethnic interrogation, the rise of feminism, and the
growth of new media technologies. In the mid to late 19th century, most sports were played for
purposes of social networking and

Overcoming The Way Of My Life
Overcome. Some see the word as a way of defeating a difficult obstacle. I would agree to an extent
that this is true for some, maybe most. For me however, to overcome has a whole other meaning.
For me, it meant to face my demons and forgive those who had hurt me. It meant finding a way to
live my life the way that I wanted and to not allow my past to interfere. My life is not really what
one would call the life of a typical teenager. My mother was a prostitute who was addicted to
cocaine. My brother and I were taken away from here and given to our aunt when we were born. We
had a pretty decent life, except for the fact that our new "mother" was never home so we were
basically raised by her children. For my brother, it was pretty okay because he was spoiled rotten by
her daughter. For me, it was a living Hell. I was not looked after as well as my brother. I still to this
day still have no idea why. That was just how it was. My adoptive mother had three children of her
own. Two sons and a daughter. When I was around five years old, her son started taking a liking to
me. And I do not mean the kind that a brother or relative takes into a small child. At first, it started
with subtle caresses that I never really paid any attention to. Then it progressed to him watching me
get undressed in my room. Finally it got to where he had me preform oral on him. I never really
understood what was happening at the time. I mean, I was only five years old so I never fully
processed what was

A Better Way Of Life
A Better Way of Life Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world.
Everyday people die from alcoholism, families are split, children and wives are abused, jobs are lost
and good people seem more and more hopeless. According to Mayoclinic.org, an online medical
dictionary, alcoholism can be described as a pattern of heavy drinking which involves trouble of
controlling the intake of alcohol, still drinking after problems flourish that are caused by our
drinking, having to drink more and more every time to get to the same buzz and having alcohol
withdrawals when you stop or drink less. These are symptoms of a life threatening disease. Many
might say that alcoholism is mind state and could simply be dominated with a strong will power,
this is not the case. A true alcoholic cannot stop drinking on his own and live a happy and normal
life. Alcohol takes control of the mind , the body and the spirit, quitting seems nearly impossible.
According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, (NCADD), this year in the
United states it was calculated that around 17.6 Million people drink alcohol in an abusive way. It
also mentions that 88,000 deaths are due an excessive use of alcohol and 40% of patients in
hospitals are being treated for conditions caused by a heavy drinking lifestyle. It is clear and evident
that there is a huge problem, a problem that is ignored by many who do not see this disease as
dangerous as it really is.

Skepticism: The Ideal Way Of Life
Skepticism: The Ideal Way of Life
Sonya Quaife
Murray
PHL 110

Both stoicism and skepticism are very polarized philosophies that are not often lived out to their
fullest today as each go to the extreme to articulate a radical viewpoint on life. On the first hand,
stoicism focuses on only caring about internals which are things one can control and not on the
externals which are things that are out of one's control. According to Epictetus, if one can follow this
basic principle, a happy life should be attainable. On the contrary, skepticism focuses on adding
value or judgment to things in life even though there is truly no fact of the matter method to
determine a universal judgment agreed upon by society. In David Hume's "The ... Show more

Hume states that in Epictetus's The Handbook, most of the statements are based upon a mindset
where one is simply told to get over it. Hume states that Seneca also makes use of these invalid
arguments that do not add any strength to any point trying to be made. An example of this attack is
when Hume gives an example where "a man may as well pretend to cure himself of love by viewing
his mistress through the artificial medium of a microscope..." (Hume 349). This addresses the idea
that finding an artificial solution to a problem does not benefit anyone in the long run. Similarly,
artificial arguments that are made does not do anyone any good. The use of an artificial argument
completely invalidates the point that is trying to be made. Therefore, since stoicism is based upon
artificial arguments, it cannot serve to bring any individual happiness and success in the future.
Hume adds that simply being indifferent to all problems and issues in life as Epictetus instructs does
not mean that nothing bad ever happens. When one extinguishes the idea of pleasure and pain, he or
she also removes the point of living in life. Someone cannot just state whatever happens, happens
and be okay with it simply because they did not care about it from the

Religion Is A Spiritual Way Of Life
Religion is a spiritual way of life that tells you how to act in this life and ultimately affects life after
death. It is something that is completely faith–based because there is no way to prove whether or not
it is real. It doesn't matter what religion you choose to follow; it is imperative to have an
understanding of other religions of the world. The knowledge of other religions gives you the
understanding needed to not be afraid of the unknown. A great example of this is after 9–11, our
country was full of fear. Anyone who looked like they were Muslim was a target of this fear. Most
people were not educated about the Islamic religion but if they had been they would have known
that it did not condone violence. It was an extremely radical group who did not represent the
Muslims as a whole.
The knowledge of other religions is beneficial in your everyday interactions with people or when
you are traveling. I grew up all around the world and one thing I did learn was that when you are in
a foreign country, they appreciate when you try to learn and do their customs in their homes. While I
did not grow up in India, I did spend three years in a small borrow outside of London, England
where I met many Hindus. I was only eight–years–old when I met Pia. We became best friends
quickly but it was going to her house to play that I learned her family was different from mine. I had
to take off my shoes before entering her house, which was full of exotic fragrances. They had a little

A lot of articles these days tell us all about the problems with our housing market, but none of them
offer any solutions. It's about time the people of Australia knew what the government, real estate
experts, and fellow Aussies think about our housing market. It's about time we knew how to fix this
problem, instead of repeatedly being told how bad it's getting. Aussies are concerned about the
housing market, and rightfully so, as one in five struggle to keep up with housing payments. In fact,
surveys show 70% of people are concerned they'll never own a home in their lifetime and 80%
reckon prices will keep rising in the future. Despite this, 3 quarters of Aussies still believe owning a

Traditional middle–ring suburbs are the logical place to improve density, but governments have to
make sure they don't disrupt local communities. Mr Sukkar, who's portfolio includes housing
affordability, said this is because "people have quite rightly bought in a suburb, partly because of the
character of that suburb and they don't want it to change." This is why local government provides
resistance to density increase. The Victorian Government is facing stiff opposition over a $185
million plan to renew public housing estates. The Boroondara local council is an example of this,
fighting a plan to redevelop a site at Bills St, Hawthorn with four–hundred units and towers up to
twelve storeys high. Mr Sukkar concluded that the best approach is to increase density near train and
tram routes to take pressure off traditional suburbs. He also urged governments to unlock more
surplus land for housing. There is no simple solution to our housing affordability problem, but it's in
our government's hands to do something. I urge them to make some moves to make housing
affordable. If this is too much to ask for them, then we should bring in a government that's up to the

The As A Way Of Life
Urban areas have very unique social characteristics that have been identified and pondered for many
years. Why is it more socially acceptable to say hello to a complete stranger walking down the street
in Holland than it is in Manhattan? What makes people view the homeless differently in a small
town versus a large city? People have often wondered what makes cities so socially different than
any other area in society. Louis Wirth published his theories on ideas like this in his 1938 article
Urbanism as a Way of Life. Contrary to many other theologians, Wirth explains the scarcity of
interpersonal relations in urban areas through population density and specialization.
Wirth acknowledges that size cannot be the sole indicator for ... Show more content on

Bigger cities in a small area have more opportunity to hold different social groups in them because
of their bigger numbers in such a close proximity. For example, New York City is one of the largest
cities in the country. It is also known for housing many culturally diverse neighborhoods, such as
"Chinatown" and "Little Italy". In comparison, Holland, a small town with a population less than
one percent of that of New York City, has significantly less identifiable diversity. One of the factors
that contributes to New York City's higher amount of diversity is its significantly larger population
in such a small area. More people in a region living on top of each other gives way for more
opportunities for creating visible diversity.
Almost forty years later, Claude Fischer contributes his thoughts on urban affect in his article
Theories of Urbanism. In this article, Fischer describes three major theories of urbanism that work
to transform our behaviors in society and the psychological effects on each individual. The first, he
identifies the deterministic theory, which claims that urbanism increases the appearance of social
and personality disorders more than those found in rural places. Going with Wirth's theory on the
effect of increased stimuli in the city on individuals, Fischer believed that city dwellers respond by
withdrawing from any unnecessary

Abnormality: The American Way Of Life
An abnormality can simply be defined as something which is different from the norm. This
definition can easily be found out when looking in a dictionary or deciphering context clues in a
book. However, when it comes to applying this definition to real world examples, it becomes more
and more difficult to say what an abnormality is. For example, if someone from a foreign country
decides to come to the United States, he or she may find the way of life in America to be abnormal.
He or she may wonder why Americans drive on the right side of the road, or why the school system
works the way it does or even why Americans think the way they do. This person will consider the

For this reason, some marketing techniques addressed that depression was an illness. The idea of an
abnormality automatically being thought of as an illness can even be seen when analyzing how
Glaxosmith Kline tried to prove that Paxil was a helpful medication. An idea was floating around
that depression was caused by a lack of serotonin. Serotonin was a neurotransmitter that sent
messages to different brain cells. If this neurotransmitter was fewer in number than it should have
been, there could be a disruption in communication and the result of this disruption could be
depression. Although there was no strong scientific evidence to support this claim, Glaxosmith
Kline decided to use it for advertising purposes (Watters 529). The fact that Glaxosmith Kline used
this statement in order to advertise Paxil ties into the idea of abnormality shaping illness perfectly.
Since an imbalance of serotonin is not normal, it could easily be considered the cause of an

Restoring what was Lost
Much of what many of us consider the American way of life is embedded of a broad shared
economic growth, between 1900s and 1979. During that time period, every American from each
generation improved than the one from before their time. Even those who had to endure through the
Great Depression made up what was lost. By then, America went into an era that economists call the
Great Compression, where workers captured a share of the economy's growth. Nowadays, there
seems to be a lot of divergence about what really happened. In hopes of simply going back to where
we once were, I feel that people are not embracing the future, but running away to ... Show more

Schor describes what she calls "competitive consumption" and that the real reason for this economic
crisis is due to the desire for things we do not need. When it comes to the topic of financial crisis in
an American household, most of us will readily agree that national debt has affected millions of
people. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of where the money was
spent that cause this economic difficulty. I find Schor's belief of heavily indebted consumers to
splurge on luxury items inaccurate. On the other hand, Warren's theory of cost living in different
time periods is extremely useful because it sheds insight on the problems we are facing today, and
the financial stability for numerous middle–class Americans is all too fragile. Schor, a professor at
Boston College, argues that we are living in "the cycle of work and spent" which motivates the
people to "spend longer hours of work" in order to buy materialistic items based on their appearance
to the world. She states the "competitive consumption has shifted out to the vast majority of the
population" and "the media has a very pronounced bias towards showing upscaled or affluent
consumption" (Schor). Schor highlights the kinds of "socially visible items become increasingly
important as a part of a competitive consumer system." And because of that, "the growth of the
aspiration gap has led American

The healing ceremony, which is also called a "sing" is one of the most well–known. This is where
the sandpainting, like I talked about in the previous paragraph, is made by the medicine man. These
ceremonies are used to cope with the uncertainties and dangers that occur in the world as well. The
Navajo have a kinship system that follows the lineage of the woman. When a baby is born, he or she
belongs to the clan of the mother. Navajo children are "born to" the mother's clan and taker her clan
name, and are "born for" the father's clan. This way Navajos know who they are through
identification. When a man is ready to marry he is to marry someone outside of his clan. They
consider it incest if he was to marry someone in the same clan even though they are not blood
related. The clan name is passed from the mother to the child. The Navajo way a man is to introduce
himself to others by stating his maternal and paternal clans on both sides of his family. This is so
other Navajos know where you they came from. When two Navajos meet for the first time they refer
to each other as "brother" and 'sister." This for Americans would be cousins. Father's and mother's
cousins in the American way are thought of as aunts and uncles in the Navajo way. Grandparent's
brothers and sisters in the American way are thought of as grandma's and grandpa's in the Navajo

Food Is A Way Of Life
Food has essentially become a way of life in our world. People identify by what kind of food they
grew up eating. People from the south feel that barbecue food is a way of life, while people in Italy
can't live without pasta. We can learn a lot about where are ancestors are from when we look at what
kind of food we eat, but we can also see the change that the culture we live in has put upon us. Since
America is this beautiful melting pot of many different cultures we can see the blended in all of us,
but still know our heritage form the "secret" family recipes we have learned from our parents, and
grandparents. Food in essence is a part of our culture that shows us where we our ancestors are

Italian culture. One of the things they will not let go of is the prestigious Italian food they grew up

The Importance Of Islam A Way Of Life
Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life. According to Al–Shahri (2002), Islam means total
obedience or submission to the true and one Allah (Allah is the Arabic name for God). The source of
law in the Islamic legal system arising from Islam is the Qur'an and Sunnah. The Qur'an is the word
of Allah as revealed to Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon him [PBUH]) through the angel
Gabriel. Sunnah is the collection of words, actions, traditions, and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed
(PBUH). Islam is the way of life within the system of values that advocate forgiveness, peace,
repentance, and mercy. These values are not only central to Islamic philosophy, but are universally
held at the root of nursing care. Islamic Philosophy provides guidance on moral, spiritual, personal,
social, political, and economic affairs for all aspects of Muslim's life (Rashidi & Rajaram, 2001).
There are many concepts important to the underlying philosophy in Islam. The idea of tawheed is
central in Islam. Tawheed means unification and the Ones of God, which required maintaining God's
unity in all human activities: practically, intellectually, and spiritually (Rassool, 2000). Islam defines
human beings with specific paradigms, which include mind, soul and spirit, body, and heart. The
practice of the Muslim life reflects these paradigms in the individual's relationship with Allah.
According to Luna (1994), Tawheed implies that there is no separation of the spiritual dimension
from the body: in other words, there is body–mind unity. In the past, the rise of positivism resulted
in the conceptual separation of mind and body and this concept then found its way into modern
healthcare. According to Rashidi and Rajaram (2001), this separation of body and mind has had a
negative influence on the holistic approach to providing nursing care (Rashidi & Rajaram, 2001). In
the Islamic philosophy of nursing care, this idea of positivism has been rejected.
Muslims believe in predestination according to Allah's will. In the understanding of the spiritual life,
there is a belief in life after death and a Day of Judgment. At that time, it is believed that Allah
judge's people based on their deeds during earthly life. There are five

The Buddhist Way Of Life
1– For many, there is nothing more terrifying than facing the end of their life with few exceptions.
One of these exceptions would be the Buddhist way of life and their perspective of death. Buddhist
gained popularity in the U.S. as another pathway to inner peace and means of a healthy way to view
both life and death as one cannot exist without the other. Though this perspective may at first seems
optimistic, quite to the contrary Buddha proclaimed that life itself was all suffering in a long,
cyclical chain of death and rebirth. Compared to Western religions and philosophies, Buddhism is
on the opposite side of the scale with lacking the belief than every man and woman is born with the
original sin. Instead, every man, woman and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dukkha is experience in many ways from the pain of birth and the grief of death, to the agony of
sickness to separation from that which you like or enjoy. As one of the Noble Truths proclaimed by
Buddha, the middle path encounters the seven sorrowful experiences as a part of every life, but how
to accept and move past these pains are truly what matters. Unlike Judaic religions where the main
truth in their world is to repent for a sin that is proposed to exist even before you're born, Buddha
declares that it is in the everyday life that we must overcome the distress of craving that which we
do not own. To add to the distress given through life itself, we must also realize and accept that the
self or the core essence that we think we know of today, is in fact not true. Our self or as some say,
our soul is not a constant nor is it permanent. Again, Buddha claims that life is in fact substanceless
where what most would call a soul is not something that is permanent that we cannot have complete
control over. Since the self is not eternal, we must let go of such an idea and not base any way of life
based on the 'self' and focus more on a means of releasing that stagnant thoughts that we must find
our own sense of self. When we realize anatta, then we are always paving the pathway for annica, or
nothing is permanent or static. The Buddhist belief in annica proposes that all things are in a state of

Cloning: The Synthetic Way of Life
Cloning: The Synthetic Way of Life Cloning is an acceptable option for most people, but in all
reality, it is just a synthetic way of life. If we accept cloning as an acceptable option, an example
would be human cloning; it will devalue our human lives, lessen our way of adapting, and cause
undesirable traits from the clone. Life is a wonderful gift that is given to us. We live life to the
fullest to experience the natural way of life. Creating human clones will devalue our lives in
different ways. If you are a clone, then it is likely that you will be held in captivity for controlled
examinations. Not only will you be held in captivity, but you will be monitored at all times to see
what you might say, and what you will do. Being held in captivity and being monitored is not the
way of life, yet that is the life of a clone. It is taking away our god given rights of Life, Liberty, and
the Pursuit of Happiness. This will devalue our way of life because it is not the life that we are
meant to live; it is a life that has been planned and controlled since the very beginning. We, as
human beings, have a way to adapting to where we are, the things we see, and the people we meet.
But a human clone will not be able to adapt to a regular human life. After the clone has spent time
being monitored and controlled, it does not know how to handle different responsibilities of life,
how to correctly communicate with people, and most importantly, does not know how to control its

Transcendentalism Is Not A Beneficial Way Of Life
Transcendentalism is when one goes beyond the regular human experiences of the material world
and society to find true peace. Thoreau's "Walden" is about leaving the cities, abandoning one's
possessions and living out in nature to find one 's true self. Emerson's "Self– Reliance" is about
resisting society and living true to oneself and never following society's standards. A modern
Transcendentalist named Josh from the novel The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian
follows in the footsteps of Emerson and Thoreau and tries to live a Transcendentalist way of life.
When a person does follow the transcendentalist way of life, they will find that it will always lead
back to the material world and society and that they cannot escape it. The Transcendentalist way of
life is not a beneficial way of life. Transcendentalist Thoreau believed that one should follow his or
her own emotions. Thoreau thoughts are shown vividly when Thoreau in "Walden" says, "I did not
wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was
quite necessary." (Thoreau 26–27). Thoreau wanted to live freely and if he did not live this way he
was not living life. However when Josh uses his own emotions like Thoreau, things do not end well
for him. When Josh tries to follow his own emotions, he wants to tell Beth that he is actually Lary
however, Josh tells what the consequences of his emotions caused him when he says "I did
something worse. I kissed

The Ways Of Human Life
Life can be expressed in many different ways. It can be be expressed through song or word. But life
in general is all expressed by human beings the same way; by living, people express who they are
and what they stand for. People express their lives day by day without even knowing. People are all
born, people all live, and people all die. But the things in between are what make life yours. This is
how people live; this is how people exist. Thornton Wilder expresses the ways of human life and
existence in Our Town, and these perspectives can be linked into other poems, songs, or movies. In
"Lucinda Matlock," Masters says this line that seems to tie into the ways of human life: "And then I
found David." Life is just happening and along the way, you can meet people who change your life
completely. They can steal your heart and change your life and you as a person. It is very crazy of
how one single person can just come in and change your life like that, but it happens all the time. It
can happen anytime, anywhere. This can relate this back to "Our Town" by the scene where George
and Emily are in the ice cream parlor. They had been neighbors forever but had never seen each
other in any other way. But in that day, they went from just friends to being in love. After that, their
lives were entirely different. "I'm just an ordinary person. And that's OK." This is a quote from
"Hope Floats." This means that you have to love and accept yourself to be able to live life to the

Homosexuality Is A Way Of Living Life
Homosexuality is one the most controversial topics societies have faced and continue to face. The
beliefs of many people around the world about the nature of homosexuality, go into two patterns
called choice and gene. Is homosexuality a choice or a gene? Are we born the way we are? Or are
we shaped by the environmental factors while we grow up? The origin of homosexuality has been
discussed intensively around the world. Gay is a sexual orientation, but the fact of acting on it is a
choice. However, every person has their own views regarding this concept throughout time. Some
people believe that homosexuality is a way of living life that people choose. On the other hand,
some say that homosexuality is a gene or even worse a disease. The hypotheses that homosexuality
is a disease that can and need to be cured has been supported by multiple people around the world.
Throughout history, research, doctors and philosophers have spent time debating about the origin of
homosexuality. Edmund Bergler was one of them, an Austrian–born American psychoanalyst whose
book covered such topics as childhood development, mid–life crises and human behavior in general.
He was the most important theorist of homosexuality in the 1950s. In 1951, Bergler wrote"
Homosexuality: Disease or Way of life" to deeply explore the origin of homosexuality. In the book,
he argues that homosexuality is a disease and not a choice, an argument that I do not accept.
According to him, homosexuals are a small

My healthy weight is easy to maintain. I have an abundant amount of energy and no issues with high

In addition, I also think of water, exercise, and sleep as food groups. Water transports nutrients

LifeWay Research conducted a survey to find out how often "unchurched Americans" think about
faith, the meaning of life, and what are their general attitudes concerning religion.
The study was carried out on 2,000 unchurched Americans, and was sponsored by Billy Graham
Center for Evangelism at Wheaton College. Those people were considered 'unchurched' who had not
attended any religious service in the last six months except weddings or funerals, and holidays.
Of those interviewed, many said that they would listen when their friend talked about religion and
often think about the meaning of life, but do not care much regarding what happens after death.

said it was not important to them, and 12 percent said they were not sure.
As many as 43 percent of the Americans never think about the question "If I were to die today, do I
know for sure that I would go to heaven?" Some 20 percent said they were not sure the last time
they thought about this, and about 29 percent said that they think about this question at least once in
a month.
Scott McConnell, executive director of LifeWay Research said that asking these kind of questions
for evangelism, such as "If you died tonight, would you go to heaven" might not be an effective tool
to make people introspect, because this is not what they usually ponder about.
"If the only benefit of being a Christian is that you get to go to heaven, most unchurched people
don't care," McConnell said. "It can't be the only way of talking about faith."
He instead suggested Christians to talk about their relationship with Jesus and how it truly molds

Baseball Is The Same Way Of Life
Merrian Webster's definition of baseball is, "a ball game played between two teams of nine on a
field with a diamond–shaped circuit of four bases." In reality baseball is so much more than that.
The movies Bull Durham, The Natural, and Field of Dreams exemplify the metaphysical meaning of
sport. Baseball is a metaphor for the American way of life; it unites people. It can even bring back
the dead. The lessons learned in baseball illuminate the core tenants of American society. The
metaphysical meaning of baseball represents Americas pulse and has the ability to even bring back

Wirth's Urbanism: A Way Of Life
More and more people are moving into cities and the world is swiftly urbanizing. Giving rise to our
decisions to locate certain economic activities there, a post–office, a restaurant, a place of
employment and so on. New activities generate, even new streets are added, increasing our path
network. Life in a city is a mixture of opposites. People are constantly moving through the masses to
get on a subway and being squashed into light rails and that becomes part of everyday existence that
takes gradual toll on people's energy. Beautiful buildings exist side by side with smoky factories.
The city life is full of luxuries, entertainment, good education, employment opportunity, clean
environment and good health. City life provides commercialization, banking systems, and
entrepreneurial businesses. These areas provide better opportunities for the entrants besides
providing ample atmosphere for expansion and conduction of business since consumers are higher

cities has changed this semester due to its unequal environmental burdens and risks, and uneven
access to opportunity demands. In "Urbanism as A way of Life," author Wirth defines a city "as a

The Many Ways Of Dealing With Life
As an individual, I have always seen the world somewhat differently than the average person in a
community such as mine. Those around me, as devout orthodox Jews, tend to view those different
than them as strange and odd – often times even judging them negatively. Personally, I see this as a
large problem, since as much as we would like to separate ourselves from those different than us to
avoid negative influences, we do live in a society that includes a multitude of religions, cultures, and
ways of life. I believe wholeheartedly that each person can learn an immense amount from everyone
they come across, and by continuing our habit of blocking off most of society with negative words,
we are cutting ourselves off from a lifetime of growth and possibility. Yes, others may be different
than us. They may have different views, different beliefs, and different ways of dealing with life.
But like us, they are human – with hopes, dreams, heartbreaks, desires, and passions. They each
have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom – from the two–year–old boy to the ninety–seven year old
grandma. And in my humble opinion, I strongly believe that respect should be given to everyone, no
matter their race, religion, or station in life. I must credit my father ZTL and my mother, who both
raised me to see the good in others and respect every human being I come across. They taught me
that just because I had my beliefs, did not mean I had a right to judge others for believing
differently. The

A Way Of Life : Hinduism

A Way of Life
Hinduism is the third most practiced and one of the oldest religion in the world. It is mostly
practiced in south Asian countries like India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. India is also called "Hindustan"
because it has the majority of the people who practice the religion. It has been evolving over
thousands or years and will continue to. One of the things that are admired the most by Hindus is the
rivers and the most favorite of them all is the Ganges River. It is the symbol of purity and holds the
sacred power to purify.
The Ganges River is considered the holiest place for Hindus and is located in Varanasi, Uttar
Pradesh, India. It is consider as a Goddess. Many people believe that their sins could be washed
away in the river and they will be purified. Many of the pilgrims who come to visit bottle the water
from the river to give to the sick. The river also symbolizes the power of Vedas which is a book that
has the highest knowledge about the Hindu religion. It is written in Sanskrit which is the sacred
language of Hinduism. The power flows in the highest heavens as it flows in Ganges and cannot be
convey directly to the people. For it to be passed on, they would need to find a spiritual leader or a

Rodeo Is The Way Of Life
"We all ride for the same purpose, to win, but its those that ride with their heart and soul and leave
everything in the arena that truly win in the end, no matter the outcome of the final placing." Its not
the person on the horse's back, or the cowboy on a bodacious bull, that wins. It's the horse and the
bull themselves that are the champions. There are misconceptions when it comes to the sport of
rodeo. Despite what PETA and animal activists think, rodeo is the way of life for some people and
nothing can change that. We take pride in our animals, the livestock we use, and wouldn't dream on
attentionally mistreating these wonderful creatures. People who deliberately chose to plan their
recreation around the same animals they spend long hours working with developed rodeo. Rodeo
was designed with thorough knowledge and respect of the animal's capabilities and limitations. Who
would know a horses or bulls capability better than someone that works with them everyday? We
wouldn't use or ride an animal that couldn't perform the task needed to get the job done. These
animals were built for work. They were not put on this earth to stand in a field and become lawn
ornaments. Most rodeo contestants have a great deal of respect and love for these animals they work
with and it's a huge insult to those people who say they are recklessly endangering the lives of these
animals. PETA has been pretty lose with their accusations of physical abuse to rodeo animals and

The Xocoatl: The Aztecian Way Of Life
The Xocoatl Codices were the Aztecian way of documenting their way of life. In the pages of these
historical books, you will notice they didn't write with letters but pictures (called glyphs) to explain
and document information. Codice pages were usually made with cactus fibre or deerskin, this one
represented here is the latter. The codices dealt with divination, ceremonies, the ritual calendar, and
speculations about the gods and the universe. After the europeans made their "visit" many featured
the influences they had on them. Another common topic was a visual representation of their
religious sacrifices. Xocolatl, the name which we have chosen for this piece, is a word Aztecs used
to describe "bitter water". Dating back to as 300 A.D cocoa beans were a symbol of life, fertility,

Life Is The Way Life
Life is something that requires a lot of physical and mental exertion. Some are sufficiently lucky to
have everything arranged for them. For example, some are naturally introduced to cash; some run
over favorable luck yet most buckle down from the begin to get some place on the planet. It simply
all relies on upon how you were brought into this world. For a few individuals, life is brimming with
anxiety and hardships. That is the way life was for somebody dear to me Kimberly Domonique. She
had it troublesome from the beginning however, she picked not to give life a chance to get her
down. At the point when life gave her lemons, she made lemonade.
Kimberly is from the island of Haiti, she moved to the states at the age of ten years old. She lived in
Queens, New York with her step mother, she was enrolled in public school shortly after her arrival.
Going to school in America was difficult for her because she did not know how to speak nor
understand the English language. She told me that what was also hard for her was developing
friendships because there was no one like her that had her background. She moved out of Queens
because of the violence that was occurring between black Americans and foreigners. The problem
was that the foreigners used their methods of learning from their country and used it to their
advantage because education was not free for them like it is here in the states. So this allowed them

Technology as a Way of Life and Student Learning

  • 1. Technology As A Way Of Life And Express The new generation of students entering and already enrolled in university are members of a digital age– growing up surrounded by many forms of digital technology as they are the first generation of youth to have internet technology easily available at their disposal. This current generation have already been labelled by sociologist as "'digital natives' (Prensky 2001a) and the 'net generation' (Tapscott 1998)" (Prensky 2001a; Tapscott 1998 as cited in Murphy 2010). Technology is not something new to these students as its presence in their life have made them quite comfortable to the idea, as they perceive "technology as a way of life and express a need to feel connected at all times" (Russo et al. 2014). Although what is new are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As university professors are being presented with new types of students, there is a call to integrate advanced technology into their course design, and ultimately, educators must lead the way and use the technology in a fashion that positively aids their students: "technology should be used with the needs of the learners in mind and with the goal of improving student learning as the focus" (Russo et al. 2014). If this idea is implemented and acknowledged correctly, then many advantages can arise that enhance student learning in university classrooms. The first benefit of instructors introducing advanced technology into their teaching is that technology connects with students, which ultimately arouses their interest because technology as a whole is a relevant and important part of student's lives. When students are interested and engaged in the class material they become motivated to pay attention and focus on what they are being taught, which leads to an improved retention rate of information. This relates to the DVD that West, Pudsey and Dunk–West created for teacher to give to their students to work within their learning, and they found that it "easily assimilates into their everyday life world" (2010). Another advantage is that the use of technology supports collaboration skills within students. Erin Murphy (2010) conducted an experiment centering around educators use of Audience Response Systems, commonly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Themes Of Existentialism As A Way Of Life Existentialism – It is a philosophy which emphasizes individual existence, freedom, and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. This philosophy focuses on the question of human existence, and the feeling that there is no purpose or explanation at the core of existence. It holds that, as there is no God or any other transcendent force, the only way to counter this nothingness (and hence to find meaning in life) is by embracing existence. Contrary to Absurdism (though it is always connected to it), which seeks the inherent value and meaning of life and the human inability to find it, Existentialism is the means of finding a meaning in life and accepting it without question. Existentialism ideas came out of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Existentialism as a Way of Life Philosophy should not be thought of primarily either as an attempt to investigate and understand the self or the world, or as a special occupation that concerns only a few. Rather, philosophy must be thought of as fully integrated within life. The concept of philosophy as a way of life manifests itself in existentialist thought in a number of ways 1. Immanence Philosophy studies life from the inside. For Kierkegaard, for example, the fundamental truths of my existence are not representations, rather, the truths of existence are immediately lived, felt and acted. B. Anxiety and Authenticity Human existence is in some way 'on its own'; anxiety (or anguish) is the recognition of this fact. Many existentialists tended to stress the significance of emotions or feelings. Related to anxiety is the concept of authenticity, which says existentialist spin on the Greek notion of 'the good life'. Certainly, if authenticity involves 'being on one's own', then there would seem to be some kind of value in celebrating and sustaining one's difference and independence from others. C. ... • 5. The Rational Way Of Life The Rational Way of Life Epictetus' Stoic Recommendation of Freedom Freedom is an arbitrary concept that has been and will always be limited. The notion of freedom is possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist, believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be internally free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in complete control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of what they cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has been lost through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus defines is an internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic recommendation offers a simple yet rational approach of living life freely. Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. Arendt states that the Founding Fathers of America equated law based on public opinion with tyranny; in this sense, democracy was to them a new form of despotism. "Paradoxical as it may sound, it was in fact under the impact of the Revolution that the revolutionary spirit in America ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. In Seymour, Basketball Is A Way Of Life In Seymour, basketball for many people is a way of life. The Games are usually filled with a sea of fans wearing red and white shirts jumping up and down screaming. Also now that Seymour had just won the division 2 state championship 2002 and their 4th straight appearance at Madison. This was only their fourth appearance and eventually made it to 8 straight Kohl center appearances. So many people's problems are not pursuing in their dreams. If people followed in their dreams so many more people would succeed. Seymour followed their dreams by making state 8 straight years in a row. From the years 2003 to 2006 a lot of my surroundings were mostly basketball related. In those first four years my life my obsession quickly began. Then in 2011 when Seymour finally got back to state which was a familiar place for Seymour they took on a pretty good Whitefish Bay team. There fans completely outnumbered our fans by maybe a couple hundred fans. Whitefish Bay fans filled up over half the student section that they had. The game had almost started and you could see the lights reflect off the shiny court. If you were for either team's fans you could feel the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since I have started basketball I don't let nobody mess with my dreams or goals. I started my basketball career in second grade. My first state experience was in fifth grade. We ended taking second place. In sixth grade we won the state championship that was one of the greatest feelings so far in my young life. Then in seventh grade we slipped a little bit and took fourth place. But this year in 8th grade we hope to take back first place because this is our last year of tournament basketball. This is our last chance to win middle school state. The main thing is don't let people tell you what to do and go after your goal. • 9. Religion : A Way Of Life Religion: A Way of Life Religion is something weird to the general public however that was not the case during the fall of Rome and the rise of the Byzantine Empire. During that era religion was one of the few things that tied people together. Without religion the only thing keeping the people of Rome together was the government. Since Alexander the Great's empire leading to the Byzantine Empire led to a mix of many culture and religions for the very first time. Greece and Rome believed in a set of Gods but the lands they conquered did not. The Eastern Roman Empire showed how one unique religion such as Christianity brought people of many different back grounds together. The fall of the Western Roman Empire led the people to people depending on Christianity. The text Arius, Letter to Alexander, Bishop of Alexandria and The Nicene Creed showed the public matter of Christianity. On the other hand the excerpt Augustine of Hippo, Confessions and The Life of St. Theodore of Sykeon addresses the personal effect of Christianity, the private affairs. The point is that is that over the course of about 300 years Christianity has united the fallen people of Rome onto the Byzantine Empire, the transition from the private life to the public use of Christianity. Christianity when it first started to spread was debatable. People were capable of holding their own opinion of Christianity enabling them to refute the church. This was a private aspect of Christianity that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Looking at Life in Different Ways "At the end of Look Both Ways, the film–maker convinces viewers that the characters are capable of looking at their lives in different ways." Do you agree? In the film Look Both Ways, director Sarah Watt explores the theme that perspective can determine experience in life. The film demonstrates that life is an unscripted event where no one knows the final outcome and we can often become overwhelmed by how seemingly little control we exert over the navigation of our lives By using main characters Nick, Meryl and Andy, she suggests that changing a person's outlook on life can enrich that person and help overcoming problems. Nick learnt that cancer does not necessarily implicate death, Meryl freed herself from her fears by realising risks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only upon her actual submission to the fact that "things just happen" can Meryl finally begin to regain her happiness. Conversely, Andy's view of death is quite different to that of Nick and Meryl. To him, it is an escape route. His negative view on life has him belief that everything happens 'deliberately.' Andy is disgruntled by his job, embittered by his previous marriage and feels threatened by Anna's pregnancy and the prospect of 'paying the bills for the rest of his life' to another woman. This moulds him into an egoistic person, refusing to take responsibility as he believes everyone has an 'agenda'. Angry and frustrated, the extent of Andy's distress is shown as he immaturely pops a bag of chips at the store and tells the gospel choir to 'shut up'. However, his encounter with Nick at the train track is cathartic in bringing a turnaround of his ideas. When he discovers Nicks diagnoses he steps back from the railway and realises how his selfish attitude has kept him hostage to leading an enjoyable life. Andy looks at his life from another angle, that this child may be his opportunity to redeem himself. In the concluding photomontage we see him holding his baby, suggesting that he was able to move on with his life and change his perspective on the past and future. Julia's perspective changes throughout the film. The sudden death of her boyfriend has left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Learning as a Way of Life What I Learned "We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself." People go through their whole lives trying to figure out who they are, look for a sense of purpose or belonging, or attempt to discover the right path for them–self. The lucky ones have somehow found what ever it is they were looking for throughout their journey. They try to teach the people who are still looking how to find their way but often fail because it is not up to them where or how someone else should live their life. It is up to the individual himself to find fulfillment. I know I am one of many individuals traveling blindly through life wondering where my destination lies. It wasn't ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How can we be confident in the things we do if we don't have a good relationship with ourselves? I don't think anyone can survive today without having relatively good confidence in themselves because everything will be second guess everything and they will never be satisfied with their results. They will never know for example if the profession they are in is really right for them. I've always been relatively confident on my career path. I know I want to do something which involves marketing and management but I'm unclear as do a specific job title. The Strong assessment states that my highest theme is Enterprising. The description has interests in business, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The work activities include selling, managing, persuading, marketing. When I look at the descriptions for enterprising I see my name written all over it. These are the interests and work activities that I want to pursue. But when these results are compared to the assessments in the book, there are dissimilarities. For example, I have a strong interest in leadership according to the Strong Interest Inventory, but after taking the chapter 7 assessments I have moderate to low leadership skills. I've always thought I possessed great leadership skills but realize now that I hardly ever act on or try to develop those skills. At certain times in life I step up to the plate and shine but I don't stay in the spot light for very long. It is not that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Sports Are The Way Of Life To many Americans sports have been the way of life. The people think that sports are one of the main reasons why the different cultures and backgrounds have come together. Sports tend to make people put all of their differences aside and make them communicate and possibly became friends with people they would have never thought of. The effects of sports on people lives are good because they teach good values and habits along with bringing people together as one. Sports are at the center of our country and teaches a lot about good values. The U.S. citizens often tend to take sports too far which was stated when President Clinton talks about how the country is insane about sports and that they use sports as a way to how we act. Most Americans would say that the only good thing about the country is the sports. They think sports is the only place for people to get the same chances and where people work the hardest and it brings all the people together (Saunders). Sports were probably the best thing that happened to the people in the United States because Sports had become more of a way of life in American in which everyone tried to involve with complex issues (Starr). Although it took a while for sports to change sports affected some changes in American society in ways including an increase in ethnic interrogation, the rise of feminism, and the growth of new media technologies. • 17. Overcoming The Way Of My Life Overcome. Some see the word as a way of defeating a difficult obstacle. I would agree to an extent that this is true for some, maybe most. For me however, to overcome has a whole other meaning. For me, it meant to face my demons and forgive those who had hurt me. It meant finding a way to live my life the way that I wanted and to not allow my past to interfere. My life is not really what one would call the life of a typical teenager. My mother was a prostitute who was addicted to cocaine. My brother and I were taken away from here and given to our aunt when we were born. We had a pretty decent life, except for the fact that our new "mother" was never home so we were basically raised by her children. For my brother, it was pretty okay because he was spoiled rotten by her daughter. For me, it was a living Hell. I was not looked after as well as my brother. I still to this day still have no idea why. That was just how it was. My adoptive mother had three children of her own. Two sons and a daughter. When I was around five years old, her son started taking a liking to me. And I do not mean the kind that a brother or relative takes into a small child. At first, it started with subtle caresses that I never really paid any attention to. Then it progressed to him watching me get undressed in my room. Finally it got to where he had me preform oral on him. I never really understood what was happening at the time. I mean, I was only five years old so I never fully processed what was ... • 19. A Better Way Of Life A Better Way of Life Alcoholism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world. Everyday people die from alcoholism, families are split, children and wives are abused, jobs are lost and good people seem more and more hopeless. According to Mayoclinic.org, an online medical dictionary, alcoholism can be described as a pattern of heavy drinking which involves trouble of controlling the intake of alcohol, still drinking after problems flourish that are caused by our drinking, having to drink more and more every time to get to the same buzz and having alcohol withdrawals when you stop or drink less. These are symptoms of a life threatening disease. Many might say that alcoholism is mind state and could simply be dominated with a strong will power, this is not the case. A true alcoholic cannot stop drinking on his own and live a happy and normal life. Alcohol takes control of the mind , the body and the spirit, quitting seems nearly impossible. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, (NCADD), this year in the United states it was calculated that around 17.6 Million people drink alcohol in an abusive way. It also mentions that 88,000 deaths are due an excessive use of alcohol and 40% of patients in hospitals are being treated for conditions caused by a heavy drinking lifestyle. It is clear and evident that there is a huge problem, a problem that is ignored by many who do not see this disease as dangerous as it really is. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Skepticism: The Ideal Way Of Life Skepticism: The Ideal Way of Life Sonya Quaife Murray PHL 110 10 October, 2016 Both stoicism and skepticism are very polarized philosophies that are not often lived out to their fullest today as each go to the extreme to articulate a radical viewpoint on life. On the first hand, stoicism focuses on only caring about internals which are things one can control and not on the externals which are things that are out of one's control. According to Epictetus, if one can follow this basic principle, a happy life should be attainable. On the contrary, skepticism focuses on adding value or judgment to things in life even though there is truly no fact of the matter method to determine a universal judgment agreed upon by society. In David Hume's "The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hume states that in Epictetus's The Handbook, most of the statements are based upon a mindset where one is simply told to get over it. Hume states that Seneca also makes use of these invalid arguments that do not add any strength to any point trying to be made. An example of this attack is when Hume gives an example where "a man may as well pretend to cure himself of love by viewing his mistress through the artificial medium of a microscope..." (Hume 349). This addresses the idea that finding an artificial solution to a problem does not benefit anyone in the long run. Similarly, artificial arguments that are made does not do anyone any good. The use of an artificial argument completely invalidates the point that is trying to be made. Therefore, since stoicism is based upon artificial arguments, it cannot serve to bring any individual happiness and success in the future. Hume adds that simply being indifferent to all problems and issues in life as Epictetus instructs does not mean that nothing bad ever happens. When one extinguishes the idea of pleasure and pain, he or she also removes the point of living in life. Someone cannot just state whatever happens, happens and be okay with it simply because they did not care about it from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is something that is completely faith–based because there is no way to prove whether or not it is real. It doesn't matter what religion you choose to follow; it is imperative to have an understanding of other religions of the world. The knowledge of other religions gives you the understanding needed to not be afraid of the unknown. A great example of this is after 9–11, our country was full of fear. Anyone who looked like they were Muslim was a target of this fear. Most people were not educated about the Islamic religion but if they had been they would have known that it did not condone violence. It was an extremely radical group who did not represent the Muslims as a whole. The knowledge of other religions is beneficial in your everyday interactions with people or when you are traveling. I grew up all around the world and one thing I did learn was that when you are in a foreign country, they appreciate when you try to learn and do their customs in their homes. While I did not grow up in India, I did spend three years in a small borrow outside of London, England where I met many Hindus. I was only eight–years–old when I met Pia. We became best friends quickly but it was going to her house to play that I learned her family was different from mine. • 25. Australian Way Of Life Essay A lot of articles these days tell us all about the problems with our housing market, but none of them offer any solutions. It's about time the people of Australia knew what the government, real estate experts, and fellow Aussies think about our housing market. It's about time we knew how to fix this problem, instead of repeatedly being told how bad it's getting. Aussies are concerned about the housing market, and rightfully so, as one in five struggle to keep up with housing payments. In fact, surveys show 70% of people are concerned they'll never own a home in their lifetime and 80% reckon prices will keep rising in the future. Despite this, 3 quarters of Aussies still believe owning a home to be part of "The Australian Way Of Life." Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional middle–ring suburbs are the logical place to improve density, but governments have to make sure they don't disrupt local communities. Mr Sukkar, who's portfolio includes housing affordability, said this is because "people have quite rightly bought in a suburb, partly because of the character of that suburb and they don't want it to change." This is why local government provides resistance to density increase. The Victorian Government is facing stiff opposition over a $185 million plan to renew public housing estates. The Boroondara local council is an example of this, fighting a plan to redevelop a site at Bills St, Hawthorn with four–hundred units and towers up to twelve storeys high. Mr Sukkar concluded that the best approach is to increase density near train and tram routes to take pressure off traditional suburbs. He also urged governments to unlock more surplus land for housing. There is no simple solution to our housing affordability problem, but it's in our government's hands to do something. Why is it more socially acceptable to say hello to a complete stranger walking down the street in Holland than it is in Manhattan? What makes people view the homeless differently in a small town versus a large city? People have often wondered what makes cities so socially different than any other area in society. Louis Wirth published his theories on ideas like this in his 1938 article Urbanism as a Way of Life. Contrary to many other theologians, Wirth explains the scarcity of interpersonal relations in urban areas through population density and specialization. Wirth acknowledges that size cannot be the sole indicator for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bigger cities in a small area have more opportunity to hold different social groups in them because of their bigger numbers in such a close proximity. For example, New York City is one of the largest cities in the country. It is also known for housing many culturally diverse neighborhoods, such as "Chinatown" and "Little Italy". In comparison, Holland, a small town with a population less than one percent of that of New York City, has significantly less identifiable diversity. One of the factors that contributes to New York City's higher amount of diversity is its significantly larger population in such a small area. More people in a region living on top of each other gives way for more opportunities for creating visible diversity. Almost forty years later, Claude Fischer contributes his thoughts on urban affect in his article Theories of Urbanism. In this article, Fischer describes three major theories of urbanism that work to transform our behaviors in society and the psychological effects on each individual. The first, he identifies the deterministic theory, which claims that urbanism increases the appearance of social and personality disorders more than those found in rural places. Going with Wirth's theory on the effect of increased stimuli in the city on individuals, Fischer believed that city dwellers respond by withdrawing from any unnecessary ... This definition can easily be found out when looking in a dictionary or deciphering context clues in a book. However, when it comes to applying this definition to real world examples, it becomes more and more difficult to say what an abnormality is. For example, if someone from a foreign country decides to come to the United States, he or she may find the way of life in America to be abnormal. He or she may wonder why Americans drive on the right side of the road, or why the school system works the way it does or even why Americans think the way they do. If this neurotransmitter was fewer in number than it should have been, there could be a disruption in communication and the result of this disruption could be depression. Although there was no strong scientific evidence to support this claim, Glaxosmith Kline decided to use it for advertising purposes (Watters 529). During that time period, every American from each generation improved than the one from before their time. Even those who had to endure through the Great Depression made up what was lost. By then, America went into an era that economists call the Great Compression, where workers captured a share of the economy's growth. Schor describes what she calls "competitive consumption" and that the real reason for this economic crisis is due to the desire for things we do not need. When it comes to the topic of financial crisis in an American household, most of us will readily agree that national debt has affected millions of people. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of where the money was spent that cause this economic difficulty. I find Schor's belief of heavily indebted consumers to splurge on luxury items inaccurate. On the other hand, Warren's theory of cost living in different time periods is extremely useful because it sheds insight on the problems we are facing today, and the financial stability for numerous middle–class Americans is all too fragile. Schor, a professor at Boston College, argues that we are living in "the cycle of work and spent" which motivates the people to "spend longer hours of work" in order to buy materialistic items based on their appearance to the world. She states the "competitive consumption has shifted out to the vast majority of the population" and "the media has a very pronounced bias towards showing upscaled or affluent consumption" (Schor). Schor highlights the kinds of "socially visible items become increasingly important as a part of a competitive consumer system." Since America is this beautiful melting pot of many different cultures we can see the blended in all of us, but still know our heritage form the "secret" family recipes we have learned from our parents, and grandparents. They wanted to pass on their love of Italian dishes onto their children, who would then pass it down to their grandchildren. • 39. The Importance Of Islam A Way Of Life Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life. According to Al–Shahri (2002), Islam means total obedience or submission to the true and one Allah (Allah is the Arabic name for God). The source of law in the Islamic legal system arising from Islam is the Qur'an and Sunnah. The Qur'an is the word of Allah as revealed to Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon him [PBUH]) through the angel Gabriel. Sunnah is the collection of words, actions, traditions, and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). Islam is the way of life within the system of values that advocate forgiveness, peace, repentance, and mercy. These values are not only central to Islamic philosophy, but are universally held at the root of nursing care. Islamic Philosophy provides guidance on moral, spiritual, personal, social, political, and economic affairs for all aspects of Muslim's life (Rashidi & Rajaram, 2001). There are many concepts important to the underlying philosophy in Islam. The idea of tawheed is central in Islam. Tawheed means unification and the Ones of God, which required maintaining God's unity in all human activities: practically, intellectually, and spiritually (Rassool, 2000). Islam defines human beings with specific paradigms, which include mind, soul and spirit, body, and heart. The practice of the Muslim life reflects these paradigms in the individual's relationship with Allah. According to Luna (1994), Tawheed implies that there is no separation of the spiritual dimension from the body: in other words, there is body–mind unity. In the past, the rise of positivism resulted in the conceptual separation of mind and body and this concept then found its way into modern healthcare. According to Rashidi and Rajaram (2001), this separation of body and mind has had a negative influence on the holistic approach to providing nursing care (Rashidi & Rajaram, 2001). In the Islamic philosophy of nursing care, this idea of positivism has been rejected. Muslims believe in predestination according to Allah's will. In the understanding of the spiritual life, there is a belief in life after death and a Day of Judgment. At that time, it is believed that Allah judge's people based on their deeds during earthly life. There are five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of these exceptions would be the Buddhist way of life and their perspective of death. Buddhist gained popularity in the U.S. as another pathway to inner peace and means of a healthy way to view both life and death as one cannot exist without the other. Though this perspective may at first seems optimistic, quite to the contrary Buddha proclaimed that life itself was all suffering in a long, cyclical chain of death and rebirth. As one of the Noble Truths proclaimed by Buddha, the middle path encounters the seven sorrowful experiences as a part of every life, but how to accept and move past these pains are truly what matters. Unlike Judaic religions where the main truth in their world is to repent for a sin that is proposed to exist even before you're born, Buddha declares that it is in the everyday life that we must overcome the distress of craving that which we do not own. To add to the distress given through life itself, we must also realize and accept that the self or the core essence that we think we know of today, is in fact not true. Our self or as some say, our soul is not a constant nor is it permanent. Again, Buddha claims that life is in fact substanceless where what most would call a soul is not something that is permanent that we cannot have complete control over. Since the self is not eternal, we must let go of such an idea and not base any way of life based on the 'self' and focus more on a means of releasing that stagnant thoughts that we must find our own sense of self. Life is a wonderful gift that is given to us. We live life to the fullest to experience the natural way of life. Creating human clones will devalue our lives in different ways. If you are a clone, then it is likely that you will be held in captivity for controlled examinations. Not only will you be held in captivity, but you will be monitored at all times to see what you might say, and what you will do. Thoreau's "Walden" is about leaving the cities, abandoning one's possessions and living out in nature to find one 's true self. Emerson's "Self– Reliance" is about resisting society and living true to oneself and never following society's standards. A modern Transcendentalist named Josh from the novel The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian follows in the footsteps of Emerson and Thoreau and tries to live a Transcendentalist way of life. When a person does follow the transcendentalist way of life, they will find that it will always lead back to the material world and society and that they cannot escape it. The Transcendentalist way of life is not a beneficial way of life. Transcendentalist Thoreau believed that one should follow his or her own emotions. Thoreau thoughts are shown vividly when Thoreau in "Walden" says, "I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary." (Thoreau 26–27). Thoreau wanted to live freely and if he did not live this way he was not living life. However when Josh uses his own emotions like Thoreau, things do not end well for him. But life in general is all expressed by human beings the same way; by living, people express who they are and what they stand for. People express their lives day by day without even knowing. People are all born, people all live, and people all die. But the things in between are what make life yours. This is how people live; this is how people exist. Thornton Wilder expresses the ways of human life and existence in Our Town, and these perspectives can be linked into other poems, songs, or movies. In "Lucinda Matlock," Masters says this line that seems to tie into the ways of human life: "And then I found David." Life is just happening and along the way, you can meet people who change your life completely. They can steal your heart and change your life and you as a person. It is very crazy of how one single person can just come in and change your life like that, but it happens all the time. It can happen anytime, anywhere. This can relate this back to "Our Town" by the scene where George and Emily are in the ice cream parlor. They had been neighbors forever but had never seen each other in any other way. But in that day, they went from just friends to being in love. After that, their lives were entirely different. "I'm just an ordinary person. And that's OK." This is a quote from "Hope Floats." The beliefs of many people around the world about the nature of homosexuality, go into two patterns called choice and gene. Is homosexuality a choice or a gene? Are we born the way we are? Or are we shaped by the environmental factors while we grow up? The origin of homosexuality has been discussed intensively around the world. Gay is a sexual orientation, but the fact of acting on it is a choice. However, every person has their own views regarding this concept throughout time. Some people believe that homosexuality is a way of living life that people choose. On the other hand, some say that homosexuality is a gene or even worse a disease. The hypotheses that homosexuality is a disease that can and need to be cured has been supported by multiple people around the world. Throughout history, research, doctors and philosophers have spent time debating about the origin of homosexuality. Edmund Bergler was one of them, an Austrian–born American psychoanalyst whose book covered such topics as childhood development, mid–life crises and human behavior in general. Therefore, the frequency of breaching of not only Cosmic or the Highest Moral Laws, but his own moral codes is not a surprise for devote Cosmic Analyst. (Quote from 'LOGIC' chapter # 39) Specifically, "in all situations where a Terrestrial Human Being gets angry, hateful or vindictive and makes war", within himself, in relation to the others, like torturing an animal or littering Nature, or 'splitting' the atom, "in all situations where he elbows his way forward at the expense of others, as well as in all situations where he lies, cheats, and steals" – either 'authorized' or 'non–authorized' way – "HIS CONSCIOUSNESS IS COMPLETELY IDENTICAL WITH THAT OF THE ANIMAL." • 61. In the mid to late 19th century, most sports were played for purposes of social networking and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Baseball Is The Same Way Of Life Merrian Webster's definition of baseball is, "a ball game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond–shaped circuit of four bases." In reality baseball is so much more than that. The movies Bull Durham, The Natural, and Field of Dreams exemplify the metaphysical meaning of sport. Baseball is a metaphor for the American way of life; it unites people. It can even bring back the dead. The lessons learned in baseball illuminate the core tenants of American society. The metaphysical meaning of baseball represents Americas pulse and has the ability to even bring back the dead. A defining factor of American Life has been how you handle failure. As Rocky Balboa once said, "It's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He even sets the minor league record for career home runs. After all of this he still fights with all his energy to make the majors, he is one of the team's leading hitters and mentors the team's star pitcher, Nuke. Again, despite his efforts the team decides to send him down. At first, he is heartbroken, but then he bounces back on his feet and decides to become a manager. Even though he does not get to achieve his dream of being a major leaguer he adapts and makes the most of his situation. By all measures he fails in almost every aspect of becoming a major leaguer, but in the end he is happy and is doing what he loves. This is a key to the American lifestyle. Nowadays more than ever, people have to change their careers to pursue new found interests. Look at Hank Nichols for example, he wanted to play baseball, but ultimately became a world renowned basketball official. As he said when he talked to us, he did not put his head down and pout rather he learned from his failure and used it to help him in the future. This is analogous to what Crash ultimately decides to do. This ability to adapt is also exemplified by Roy Hobbs. He is a small town boy who has to strike out The Whammer on three pitches to even get a chance at the big leagues. After mounting the pressure he is shot by a conniving mistress wearing a black veil and is hospitalized for multiple years. While most would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Wirth's Urbanism: A Way Of Life More and more people are moving into cities and the world is swiftly urbanizing. Giving rise to our decisions to locate certain economic activities there, a post–office, a restaurant, a place of employment and so on. New activities generate, even new streets are added, increasing our path network. Life in a city is a mixture of opposites. People are constantly moving through the masses to get on a subway and being squashed into light rails and that becomes part of everyday existence that takes gradual toll on people's energy. Beautiful buildings exist side by side with smoky factories. The city life is full of luxuries, entertainment, good education, employment opportunity, clean environment and good health. City life provides commercialization, banking systems, and entrepreneurial businesses. These areas provide better opportunities for the entrants besides providing ample atmosphere for expansion and conduction of business since consumers are higher in numbers. The city constitutes of the people who reside in it. It is only a city, as long as it's residence will give the name and credibility in the social and physical hierarchy. My conception of cities has changed this semester due to its unequal environmental burdens and risks, and uneven access to opportunity demands. In "Urbanism as A way of Life," author Wirth defines a city "as a relatively large, dense, and permanent settlement of socially heterogeneous individuals" (Wirth 90). A city is the organized ... • 69. The Many Ways Of Dealing With Life As an individual, I have always seen the world somewhat differently than the average person in a community such as mine. Those around me, as devout orthodox Jews, tend to view those different than them as strange and odd – often times even judging them negatively. Personally, I see this as a large problem, since as much as we would like to separate ourselves from those different than us to avoid negative influences, we do live in a society that includes a multitude of religions, cultures, and ways of life. I believe wholeheartedly that each person can learn an immense amount from everyone they come across, and by continuing our habit of blocking off most of society with negative words, we are cutting ourselves off from a lifetime of growth and possibility. Yes, others may be different than us. They may have different views, different beliefs, and different ways of dealing with life. But like us, they are human – with hopes, dreams, heartbreaks, desires, and passions. They each have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom – from the two–year–old boy to the ninety–seven year old grandma. And in my humble opinion, I strongly believe that respect should be given to everyone, no matter their race, religion, or station in life. I must credit my father ZTL and my mother, who both raised me to see the good in others and respect every human being I come across. They taught me that just because I had my beliefs, did not mean I had a right to judge others for believing differently. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Way Of Life : Hinduism Sobiya Azmath Professor Howard Philosophy (PHIL) 1304 September 25, 2015 A Way of Life Hinduism is the third most practiced and one of the oldest religion in the world. It is mostly practiced in south Asian countries like India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. India is also called "Hindustan" because it has the majority of the people who practice the religion. It has been evolving over thousands or years and will continue to. One of the things that are admired the most by Hindus is the rivers and the most favorite of them all is the Ganges River. It is the symbol of purity and holds the sacred power to purify. The Ganges River is considered the holiest place for Hindus and is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is consider as a Goddess. Many people believe that their sins could be washed away in the river and they will be purified. Many of the pilgrims who come to visit bottle the water from the river to give to the sick. The river also symbolizes the power of Vedas which is a book that has the highest knowledge about the Hindu religion. It is written in Sanskrit which is the sacred language of Hinduism. The power flows in the highest heavens as it flows in Ganges and cannot be convey directly to the people. For it to be passed on, they would need to find a spiritual leader or a "guru" or a priest. We can find them along the side of the river. "Many priests set up temporary workplaces on the Ghats, small platforms under large umbrellas where they help devotees perform ... • 73. Rodeo Is The Way Of Life "We all ride for the same purpose, to win, but its those that ride with their heart and soul and leave everything in the arena that truly win in the end, no matter the outcome of the final placing." Its not the person on the horse's back, or the cowboy on a bodacious bull, that wins. It's the horse and the bull themselves that are the champions. There are misconceptions when it comes to the sport of rodeo. Despite what PETA and animal activists think, rodeo is the way of life for some people and nothing can change that. We take pride in our animals, the livestock we use, and wouldn't dream on attentionally mistreating these wonderful creatures. People who deliberately chose to plan their recreation around the same animals they spend long hours working with developed rodeo. Rodeo was designed with thorough knowledge and respect of the animal's capabilities and limitations. Who would know a horses or bulls capability better than someone that works with them everyday? We wouldn't use or ride an animal that couldn't perform the task needed to get the job done. These animals were built for work. They were not put on this earth to stand in a field and become lawn ornaments. Most rodeo contestants have a great deal of respect and love for these animals they work with and it's a huge insult to those people who say they are recklessly endangering the lives of these animals. PETA has been pretty lose with their accusations of physical abuse to rodeo animals and cite very rare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. The Xocoatl: The Aztecian Way Of Life The Xocoatl Codices were the Aztecian way of documenting their way of life. In the pages of these historical books, you will notice they didn't write with letters but pictures (called glyphs) to explain and document information. Codice pages were usually made with cactus fibre or deerskin, this one represented here is the latter. The codices dealt with divination, ceremonies, the ritual calendar, and speculations about the gods and the universe. After the europeans made their "visit" many featured the influences they had on them. Another common topic was a visual representation of their religious sacrifices. Xocolatl, the name which we have chosen for this piece, is a word Aztecs used to describe "bitter water". Dating back to as 300 A.D cocoa beans were a symbol of life, fertility, and wealth. Cocoa beans were a form of currency; so in conclusion if one were to drink bitter water it was viewed as extravagant, quite literally having enough money to eat your wealth. ... • 77. Life Is The Way Life Life is something that requires a lot of physical and mental exertion. Some are sufficiently lucky to have everything arranged for them. For example, some are naturally introduced to cash; some run over favorable luck yet most buckle down from the begin to get some place on the planet. It simply all relies on upon how you were brought into this world. For a few individuals, life is brimming with anxiety and hardships. That is the way life was for somebody dear to me Kimberly Domonique. She had it troublesome from the beginning however, she picked not to give life a chance to get her down. At the point when life gave her lemons, she made lemonade. Kimberly is from the island of Haiti, she moved to the states at the age of ten years old. She lived in Queens, New York with her step mother, she was enrolled in public school shortly after her arrival. Going to school in America was difficult for her because she did not know how to speak nor understand the English language. She told me that what was also hard for her was developing friendships because there was no one like her that had her background. She moved out of Queens because of the violence that was occurring between black Americans and foreigners. The problem was that the foreigners used their methods of learning from their country and used it to their advantage because education was not free for them like it is here in the states. So this allowed them to get good grades and advance well, which made the black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
