Social Observation Essay
We live in a society that is filled with many different people from so many backgrounds, but there
is a limited number of social classes. There are stereotypes about the people in each of the and
some meet those stereotypes, but can you tell just from observing people what class they belong to.
After observing two different people, I assumed what class there are a part of based on appearance
and actions.
The first person I observed I assumed to be a part of the middle class. This person was a woman
dining with a man, that I assume to be her husband. Both her and the man were white, and looked
like they both were in their fifties. Though I would put both of in that age range, I believe that he
was a few years older than her. She of average height and on the thinner side when it came to
weight. Her hair was cut short, a longer pixie cut, had golden blonde highlights through her
copper hair, and was styled nicely. From experience, I would say that her hair does not take too
much time, but she would have to take some time to style every day. Which means, that she
would own a fair amount of hair products whether a straightener or spray/gel products. Even with
the assumption of her owning hair products, it did not appear to be the same with makeup; she
either had a very small amount on or none at all. Continuing with what is on her face, the woman
wore dark, smaller glasses. The frames had a small design on the sides, so I believe that they are a
bit pricey for glasses. Her eyes

Cultural Observation Essay
Observation: October 7th, 2011 – oak court Mall – 2:45pm to 4:15pm I walked into the Oak Court
Mall from the second level entrance to observe the young people of today. As I entered the mall,
my first thought was that watching young people surely could not generate an entire three to five
page report. You see, I have never taken an interest in watching people that I did not have any
direct contact with. I took the escalator down to the first level and I ordered some Chinese food
and a lemonade drink. I found an empty table and proceeded to let the observation begin. Much to
my surprise, I began to pay close attention to a group of very young white kids at a table about three
rows up from where I was sitting. The first thing...show more content...
Response: It is a very rainy night tonight and I am immediately aware that the rain has not stopped
the flow of people within the mall. There are people continually walking in with raincoats and
umbrellas dripping. As I look around, I realize that the three groups I observed last week are
probably not here tonight. I honestly think I would recognize them due to how much they stood
out to me on my last visit. It did not take long before I was hit with that same sense of sadness I
experienced last Saturday. All of the young kids and some of the adults gave me the impression
of a desire for attention. Everyone wanted to be noticed in some way which was obvious by the
clothes and accessories they all wore. I even saw a few mothers whose clothing was not any
different from their teenage daughters. The girls I see here this evening are young teens who are
wearing too much makeup trying to be seen by the young boys who are wearing expensive
sneakers and saggy pants down around their buttocks. A few of the girls I see are young mothers
pushing baby strollers and conversing about the latest fashion. One young girl I see is pushing a
newborn in a stroller while yelling at another toddler about two–years–old. She is trying hard to act
as though it is not bothering her to have two young kids all alone but it is apparent that she is has
gotten into something much more than what she bargained for. By the way, did I mention there was

Kindergarten Observation Essay examples
The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The
reason I chose the school, was because I remember seeing him happy every time he came home
from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to
show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy's*
(not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and inviting. My visitation was in the morning,
right when the children began school at 8:00am. When I walked inside, the class room was baby
blue with all kinds of art projects on the walls. Miss Suzy welcomed me very kindly, and discussed
with me, her srtudents and what they have been learning. You can not help but...show more content...
I learned the day before my visit, Miss Suzy threw a pizza party for the children. The day of my
visit they were going to make their own individual pizzas (I did not get to view that part of the
day). I noticed that during circle time, two children seemed uninterested had wandered off. Miss
Suzy did not do anything about it, she just let them be. I thought that was wrong of her because the
two children were not being involved. The children could of already known what they were
speaking about. If that was the case she should of given them some work to do. When circle time
was over, Miss Suzy asked each child which part of the room they wanted to play in. Students
chose dramatic play, arts and crafts, reading, and playing on the computer. Miss Suzy walked
around each group asking them questions, expanding their imaginations. Morrison states "that
teachers work with gingival children, small groups" (2003, p.232). Watching Miss Suzy, you can
see she really enjoys what she does. She never once ignored a student who went up to her. She
seemed genuily interested when the children shared stories with her. She always welcomed them
with a hug when walking into the room in the morning to begin their day, and the children would
come in running to hug her. Section C When the children walked into the classroom, they all
seemed excited and eager to start their day. Miss Suzy greeted each student with respect and a smile
on her face. Every child seemed to know where

Last spring I was interviewed and chosen to represent my school at Utah Girls State. This program,
sponsored and directed by the American Legion Auxiliary, provides the opportunity for girls all
across Utah to understand in much greater detail how our government is run. Graduating has many
requirements, such as: participating as a citizen, voting in all elections, one public speech, holding a
government position, upholding moral standards, completing a workbook, and writing three essays
on various topics. In essence, I spent a week at Weber State creating a society and government with
my peers, while learning and performing the functions thereof. Attending Girls State was a form of

Observation Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to examine an aspect of one child's development based on a series
of observations you have made. In addition to informing your own understanding of development
and learning, you can also consider how your findings can help you to identify ways of supporting
the child's development.
Abstract
This report will look at Observations within a Haringey Early Years setting and on one Child. I will
make five various observations over a period of time. I will examine the observations through
elements of her development and learning's and how my findings can support this learning. I will
also discuss and analysis the observation techniques focusing on theoretical theories and I will focus
on the six areas of...show more content...

When considering observations, they should be skilful and well planned; though it suggests
'That practitioners should document children's progress and performance in writing, photographs
and/or on video/audio tape.' (Siraj–Blatchford, 2002)
Children are observed in a number of situations to gain a holistic view of their development.
Observations can be planned or spontaneous. There are two types of observation types, participant
and non–participant.
Participant observation are carried out while you are playing and working with a child, spontaneous
are where you would notice something happening which shows an interest, and some will be planned
(non–participant) with there are no interaction and practitioners will stand back and observe.
Within the non–participant observations this includes narrative, check list tracking, target child and
time–sampling. Narrative observations are common observation techniques used within early year
settings. Narrative observations were chosen based on the detailed information that can be taken
through a timescales. This type of observation is common within the setting as a written record of an
event. As this method records everything from a child's emotion, dialogue
